soft jarty. just
barty being the only one who can get james to sleep in bc james can’t say no to cuddles
lots of forehead & nose kisses
barty wearing james’s jumpers, especially during quidditch matches
going on double dates w/ lily and evan (i love them and they need more attention)
doing piercings for each other
on that note, tattooing each other as well
james is taller than barty!! i will die on this hill
being completely able to fill each others' needs if yk what i mean...
holding hands when studying together, even if they're not talking
(james is right-handed and barty is ambidextrous which means they can hold hands when they're doing homework too :))
playing seeker's games together
making blanket forts in the gryffindor/slytherin common rooms
they're both loud, obnoxious people, but when they're together they're pretty quiet. they can just rest w each other
barty and marlene are a terrifying duo but james is so lovesick he somehow doesn't realize (all his friends are losing it)
something about james having a crystal collection and leaving barty crystals for good luck
barty insisting on james giving him piggyback rides all over the castle
resting their chins on each others' shoulders whenever they're close enough to do so
barty doesn't like falling asleep anywhere but his dorm room, but he can always take a nap on james
james, barty, evan, and lily getting together to do makeovers (this is when barty gets his hair dyed)
(maybe genderqueer james exploring himself/themself more during these)
probably some form of a t4t couple
(combination of trans & genderqueer, i just know these two aren't cis4cis)
sleepovers almost every night, their roommates are used to it atp
insecure barty + body worshiper james
james's parents love barty
they like making silly little crafts for each other... they both have like 30 different bracelets with things like "i love you" and "you're cute" written on them in beads
they like to draw on each other. not a day goes by without james having "property of barty crouch jr" written somewhere on him (barty has "property of jfp" written on him somewhere too, but it's not somewhere most people can see)
(they eventually get the phrases tattooed in each others' handwriting)
i'm going to end it here but SOFT JARTY

Hii! I love your metas. Would you like to share your thoughts/ headcanons on jily as a couple?
Hello! Thanks for this question about Jily!
I have a bit of a specific take on these two. It's all just my headcanon.
I don't think they were ENEMIES. Lily wanted to see him as an enemy early on, but James only saw Snape that way. At first they might have made fun of Lily too, but James grew out of that childish stage by third year when finally got a morning wood, and making fun of girls became loser behaviour for him.
Lily liked James from fourth year. That's when all the chemistry kicked off, you know? When he pisses you off, but you like him, but he pisses you off. James grew up, his grin got cheekier and even more cocky, and girls started noticing him… I'm not a fan of the trope where James is an insecure boy who's clueless with girls. I mean he was clueless with girls, but at the same time he was very confident. Not a single thought that someone might not like him... So, I think he was already flirting then, but not with any romantic intentions, just that kind of behaviour. You know, winked when he caught her eye, said 'looking good, Evans' when he spotted her in Potions class in the morning. That irritating behaviour of a self-absorbed jock. Nothing serious, but Lily reacted to it like a kid, because fourth-fifth year… she was a late bloomer. It proper embarrassed her. But really, James kick-started her awakening as a girl who could fancy boys and be fancied by them.
When James realised he really liked Lily (year 5), he tried to "unlove" her first because "love’s for wimps'". Real boys don't fall in love.
My HC is that Lily's beautiful. And the boys started paying attention to her. In James’s eyes, they were all suckers (no, they weren't, and he knew that too, but couldn't think any different).
Lily and Sirius’s relationship got better before Lily and James’s relationship did.
Lily LOVES quidditch! She's a proper fan. She genuinely fell for this sport and watches every game. James reckoned for a bit that it was about him (arrogant prat).
James’s attempts to court her in fifth year were a fiasco. By sixth year, he'd matured a bit and realised it wasn't just a casual "liking" for Lily, but that he genuinely wanted something serious with her. He sincerely changed the vector of behaviour, but Lily was adamant, still remembering the last year and feeling a bit down. At one point, she said something very serious, to which James replied, 'Do you really think so?' Out of pride, Lily said, 'Yes,' and James just said, 'Alright then, sorry for bothering you all this time. All the best, Evans'
And he backed off from her. He didn't treat her like a friend, but he didn't act like a mortally offended drama king. She just became another classmate to him, with a neutral attitude. Zero interest.
Lily had some time to think. And Lily got a boyfriend –a great boyfriend, swear down! She tried her hardest to love him. But it didn't work out.
At the end of sixth year, Lily made the first move herself. They talked. She invited James to Hogsmeade. James, being anti-drama, said it was all good, he thought nothing bad of her, and said she could join them on Saturday at the Three Broomsticks, the Marauders would be chuffed. Especially since she got on well with all of them. More the merrier, right? Lily was like, WTF??? And James was like, what's the problem? Lily - no, no problem, everything's fine! Of course, I'd love to hang out with you lot! See you on Saturday!
Anyway, things got a bit twisted... loads more happened. And they started dating. By the way, they hooked up first, and then that same evening they confessed their love for each other and started dating. They were each other's first.
James realised how happy he was now and just walked around like the happiest person alive. He felt like he'd hit the jackpot. Same for Lily. They regretted wasting so much time and called themselves a pair of idiots.
NSFW!!! 18+
In their first year together, they fucked endlessly like rabbits. Everywhere. Jily for me is just endless shagging, sorry not sorry :D At first, they were figuring out their desires, abilities and needs. Right from day one, they weren't shy with each other and just went for it. They lucked out – their sex drives matched up.
James adores Lily's body. He loves every inch of it! He's ready to cover it in kisses endlessly, stroke it, nibble it, and lick it. Like someone said before, he's a pro muncher. And Lily loves James's cock. She pretty quickly mastered deepthroating, and she's got a thing for giving head in places where "you can't". So, she's up for dropping to her knees in some unexpected spots. She likes it when he cum on her breasts. Or on her face. She likes looking up at him, nearly choking, while he's gripping her hair.
Overall, they weren't shy about showing their affections in public. And they were always finding ways for spontaneous sex. Sometimes, James would finger Lily to orgasm during classes. Thank goodness for robes that hide everything lol Lily would take him into a dark corner of Hogwarts during patrols and suck him off. He could slip his hand under her robes and tease her nipples while they were sitting in the library. I mean they were really into sex with each other.
The rest of my headcanon about their sex life can stay in my head :D

Hi Suuuuze!! Has been like 2 months since I send you my last review and I am SO sorry!!
I’m kind of cheating myself in this because I’m reading CT in two fronts: this one in my private phone and another in my workplace phone. There I’m already on chapter 46!!!! 😅
I wil try very hard to the synchronise the two again since I want to give my first reaction to chapter 52 in here
Sooooo Chapter 5: Ties That Bind
The way Doe is invested in find Mary a rebound is everything to me!! And she is treating it like something very professional hahahaha
Remus made a face. “Smooth sailing for you, maybe.” - Poor Remus!!
You know, I kind of miss fic’s with the boys being boys, theirs times together. This part made me want more of this…
Sirius is that kind of kid that was raised by his parents to own the world (pureblood, first born, the heir of the family and handsome), to rule the world. He thinks a little like this, like he is better than everyone, but at the same time he was abused by them and he learned a lot with his friends and his own mistakes. I can see this in your writing, so I should thank you for this!
But he had, overall, a rather tepid opinion of Lily Evans, having assumed the role of the cynical, protective friend. - We know darling, and you are forgiven.
I don’t know why maybe because of Dex but in my mind Doc was a Hufflepuff… 😬
Speaking of Doc, there’s a reason why the boys don’t like him?? It’s because of all the drama involving MM and MB?? Or there is another reason?
Poor Sirius too… He is kind of hyperactive isn’t he?
Her friend gave her a look as if to say she wasn’t fooling anyone. It’s for things like this that I love your Mary, she knows how to read the in between’s. Never change Mary my dear.
“My sort? I don’t think I’m a nice boy, really. I can be quite a prick sometimes — though I’m working on it.” - Yeah Dorcas, don’t push him to Mary, he’s YOUR type!
iv. All Your Loving - About this hole section I have 1 thing to ask: WHY IS ALWAYS JAMES??? Why can’t it be Snape at least once?? I would love to see him suffering, not my good boy James (and me in extension)
He’s — he and I are in a strange phase of pre-friendship and I don’t think either of us is handling it well. - Turns out I have another question: Dex knew of the rumours about Jily?
Thank you for this part where the boys simply support each other, even with a sad Sirius I like this part pretty much! It’s the beginning…
The last bit of Mary and Doe it’s just heartwarming, I loved every part of it!!!
And that’s all!! Thanks again!! 😘
HELLO! omg you are rereading TWICE that's so crazy 😭😭😭😭
and thank you for the note about sirius! there's plenty of characters in this fic who put on a facade to hide their insecurities but sirius does it in a very specific, very mercurial way i find so fun to write. sometimes he lets people take knocks at him, other times he just will not have it—and that spark of pride/defiance feels very much like a residue of his life at his parents' house.
hahah doc, a hufflepuff? never!
and thank you—i love that doe and mary are both quite emotionally intelligent, but in such different ways. they play off each other so well because of it.
they just don't like him because doc's a bit of a snob, tbh! he's not wildly friendly, nor is he sporty so he and james have never had that in common. it's not that they hate him or anything, it's just that james and doc have run in similar social circles for a long time and they've never actively been friends—unlike say frank who james has always seen as a good sort
dex knew what everyone in school knew: that james had asked lily out very publicly at the end of fifth year. everyone comes to their own conclusions about that!

James POV
Everyone saw the breakup.
It was like a broom accident during a Quidditch match, ugly and horrible but you couldn't find it in yourself to look away.
Seeing Marlene McKinnon disrespect Lily Evans like that, seeing the proud look on Dorcas's face who was supposed to be a good friend of Lily's….Lily, who is kind to everyone who never says a bad thing to anyone, even when she was trying to be mean to me to soothe Marlene's insecurities, she still looked apologetic and secretly left me a box of red chuck Taylor's, a muggle shoe I love. My favorite shoes I wear everyday. How could anyone treat someone that sweet like that?
I couldn't look away, Remus was fuming, he's so close to Lily and he ran over to Marlene fuming. I never liked Marlene, partially because of my crush on Lily but also because I know her well as my teammate.  She's a seeker and the youngest captain to ever be on Gryffindor. She's good, so fucking good. Like lightning, so fast you'd think you imagined seeing her, that's why we call her Bolt. It makes her cocky, she gets any girl she wants, likes to play the field, not just Quidditch. She's strong and has a masculine beauty, and treated Lily like she was replaceable.
Now they're over. I don't know where Lily went that night but she was gone for a long time, didn't come back until 3, and strangely didn't alert anyone she missed curfew. Lily has her secrets and I understand that better than anyone, her talents surpass her just making high marks.
I stayed up until she made it safe, and when she returned she wasn't crying anymore.
The next day was weird.
Regulus Black was acting so strange in the bathroom.
He snapped at me, stared at me, and made a comment about my lip gloss.
I think he found me attractive and didn't like it.
I'm aware of how handsome I am. Tall and lean with svelte muscles, ideal for being a chaser, like a cheetah almost. I tried out for seeker but Marlene just happened to be better.
My olive skin tans beautifully, I'm grateful for my mother's Persian heritage. I have high cheekbones and lips attractively full for it that naturally come in a red raspberry color, which compliments my hooded amber-cognac colored eyes. Girls envy my lashes and my shoulder length black ringlets that are cut in a wolf cut.
It didn't surprise me that my best friend's little brother checked me out, but it did surprise me that I liked it….a lot.
When did he get so hot?
I swore off Slytherins, not only because most of them are junior death eaters, but also because I intimately understand what happens when you get too close to one.
I wish I didn't lose my virginity to Severus, I wish it was my choice to lose it. But he seemed so shy at first, I fell for the backstory, his life isn't the easiest. But that was no excuse…I took a deep breath, I won't waste any tears on that slimy little bastard, not anymore.
But Regulus, he is so…Merlin, I want to get down on my knees and suck him off in the stall.
But he's Sirius's little brother, and Sirius warned me about him. I know how unsympathetic Slytherins are, how they prioritize duty and expectation over what's right. Besides he seemed very upset that he found me attractive anyway, Snape probably told him all about how I was whore for him.
Well if he believes that he can go fuck himself.
I finished up fixing my makeup, I love this lip gloss from Rusalka Budapest Cosmetics, it's cherry red and called Dragoness, and the enchanted lip gloss never smudge or come off unless you utter a cleaning charming, and it tastes like cherries jubilee and amaretto. I fluffed my curls and sprayed on my perfume called Enchantress before getting up from my vanity table. "Padfoot I know you stole my other lip gloss."
He was hitching his skirt higher, he got away with wearing the Hogwarts uniform skirt by calling it a kilt claiming his Scottish heritage from his gross father's side, and yes he did say gross to McGonagall.  Well one Scot to another, he got the approval. "Which one?" He asked as he bent over our shared vanity to fluffy his mid back long, dark hair. He smells good, like he stole Mary's gardenia perfume good. Sirius Black is a major clepto, but I love the slag. Even though he is prettier than me.
Someone else seems to love him too, more than brotherly bond. I watched Remus from the bed, reading his thriller novel, jaw clenching as he watched our friend parade around in school girl skirts. I smirked, they're so into each other, when will they both admit it?
I plopped down next to Remus and sighed playfully, faking looking properly annoyed. "What are you reading, Mooney?"
"Have a look, you nosy little tosser." He smiled and handed me a muggle Novel called A Clockwork Orange. I prefer muggle writers, not having the genuine knowledge of the magical world makes you more imaginative. "Can I read it when you're done? What's it about?"
"No abso-fookin- no, and don't give me those doe eyes, you always steal my books and n'er give them back, where is 1984?"
I looked down with a suspicious smile and Remus snatched his book with the screaming mouth and fire back. "Exactly, no Prongs I'm dead serious, every time you're gaggin' for one o' me books- one of my books…no!"
Remus is from Manchester, he's got a strong Mancunian accent that he tries to get rid of to sound proper for you know who, but when he gets comfortable and upset he slips in.
"But Mooney!"
"Touch it and I'll give you a right hook in the newtons!"
"Bitch, what does that even mean?" I laughed.
He tossed a pillow at me with his face turning red. "Are you going to eat tonight, Pads?" Remus asked, trying to sound casual, but his dark eyes filled with concern. If Sirius thinks he can get anything pass that boy he's dreaming.
"I do eat mum." Sirius bit back as he added his tenth coat of mascara .
"Hekate, I do hope I'm not Walburga, I swear I shaved this morning." Remus teased.
I saw Sirius's red lipped smile in the mirror. "I had salad and soup."
"S'not enough. You need protein, you love the smoked honey chicken rotisserie. You love the hot cross rolls and the Yorkie pudding and–"
"All things that make me look like a right cow."
I frowned, I noticed Sirius had been eating less but I didn't realize how far it's gotten. Before I could respond to the madness, Remus cut in. "Dammit, Sirius-"
"Let's drop it, yeah? Don't worry Moonman, pumpkin soup has plenty of carbs." He didn't let any of us respond, just walked out just like that.
Peter then entered and looked around at us as he read the tension. "What did I miss?"
With a growl of frustration I never seen on my mature friend, he got up and shoved past Peter so hard he fell to the ground, his white-blue eyes widened in fright at Remus' lethal snarl that is usually reserved just for one night a month. "Everything as usual, you're never here when it matters!" He raged before leaving the dorms with a thunderous slamming of the door.
I rushed over to help Peter up. "He didn't mean it sweetheart, he's just worried about Padfoot that's all."
Peter glared at the door. "He's always worried JUST about Padfoot, like they're bloody married or something, I expect rough behavior from his kind though." He muttered Darkly.
My blood froze, I couldn't believe what one of my closest friends just said. "Peter, what did you say that for what exactly did you mean by his kind?" I asked weakly.
My friend looked worried before composing himself. "Just he's, just an unfunny joke. I'm sorry Prongs I didn't mean it." He clung to my tie and gently stroked it looking into my eyes. "I didn't mean it, honest." He said softly and breathy.
Of course he didn't, he's little Wormy, so I hugged him close. "It's okay Wormy, I know you're just hurt, it's okay. Now, let's go eat. I'm starving!" We headed down together.
On our way to the Great Hall, Peter excused himself to use the loo, I waited outside of it. I'm the kind of friend that accompanies you on all bathroom trips, it's an absolute must. To pass time, I looked at the map, and it looked like Xenophilius and Pandora had been in that broom closet far too long.
Suddenly I saw none other than the footsteps of Regulus Arcturus Black approaching. I folded the map away quickly and tucked it into the pocket of my robe. I spun around to look unsurprised at the walking talking personification of sex. I wanted to lick his jawline and find out what that big bulge in his pants really looks like. And those curls… I leaned against the wall and bit my lip, fluttering my lashes.  "Working your corner, Potter?"
I laughed humorlessly before smiling flirtatiously and played with his silver and emerald tie. "Why, interested in the price?"
His nostrils flared and pupils dilated, I smirked as he looked down at my red painted nails. "You can't have me like you've HAD everyone else Potter! You can't have everybody!"
I flinched, I thought I saw a twinge of regret in his eyes but I probably imagined it.
Oh no, no, no…he knows, Snape told him! That evil little snake, that cruel pathetic little imp! I tried my best to push back those tears but it was so hard. "No, I– I'm– what did he tell you?" I was shaking.
His cruel snarl disappeared, his silver-green eyes widened. "James? James, calm down, breathe, who told me what?" He gently moved closer.
"Snape! I swear it wasn't like how he said I swear!"
His eyebrows furrowed and he gently took my hands to bring me back. "James focus right now" his voice was stern but tender and soft. "James, I need you to focus, this is very important, okay?"
I sniffled and looked at him with hesitancy, I felt so small even though I was taller.
The way Regulus looked at me right now made me want to cry. He gently stroked my hand and I could breathe a bit. He smells nice and snuggly like snow, wintergreen, and hot chocolate, he smells like Christmas and the warm flames from a fireplace. His long fingers stroked my chin and I looked down into his eyes. "James, did Severus make you…did he force you–" he choked the last part out.
I didn't want to remember, I didn't want to think of how helpless I was. I wanted to forget, he said it was all my fault for being so handsome and cocky, I needed to be put into my place.
I crumpled into his arms and his arms were around me. He was surprisingly strong and he pulled me under an alcove.  I buried my face in his chest, if he wasn't wearing a jumper I'd soak his shirt. He didn't make fun of me, just stroked my hair and eventually rubbed the nape of my neck, a weak spot I wasn't even aware I had.
I was embarrassed by the pathetic little noise I made but all I could do was nuzzle more. "You're like a puppy Potter." He remarked softly, he rubbed behind my ear and I moaned.
"What, no dirty retort?"
I know he was joking but I still couldn't help but whimper with tears. "Fuck, James I didn't mean it." He lifted my face from his jumper and gingerly wiped away the tears. He stared down into my eyes with such a soft look I didn't even know I needed so badly.  "You are not dirty, Snape is…fuck, there's been too much tears this week." He stroked more tears away and I leaned into his touch, I watched his  eyes lowered to my lips and his Adam's apple bobbed.
I leaned forward and kissed him, his hand lowered to my back before pulling away and I felt cold without his lips on mine. "I'm not going to take advantage of you."
"You aren't, you're making it better."
He pressed his forehead against mine and sighed. "Let's go to the hall, you need to eat." With that he had us stand up and when we walked in together, no one could look away, especially Lily Evans.

Characters:
James Fleamont Potter :sun on legs, people pleaser, golden retriever, a hopeless romantic, has adhd, head boy of Gryffindor (so really good at school), extremely kind, stag animagus, only child, so a bit used to getting what he wants, super joyful and optimistic, prankster, extrovert, hispanic or desi, Sirius’s best friend
Sirius Orion Black: rockstar, extremely painfully gay, has a motorcycle, mommy issues, ran away from home when he was 16, rebel, doesn’t care about gender norms so he sometimes wears skirts or makeup, has a leather jacket and doc martens, black dog animagus, a bit egocentric but not in a really bad way, can sometimes be condescending, deep inside he’s a kind soul though, acts cool and confident but he’s super insecure, fears he’ll become his mother, prankster, extrovert, speaks French,James’ best friend, a drama queen
Remus: sarcasm is his first language, he acts condescending but not in an annoying way more in a slay way, makes sure Sirius and James don’t kill themselves or anyone else with their pranks, deeply insecure, a werewolf, introvert, super respectful of teachers, a David Bowie fan, has an old grandpa soul, reads a lot, wears grandpa sweaters, has imposter syndrome, some people head cannon him as welsh
Peter: introvert, social anxiety, feels left out, insect and dinosaur kind of kid, old man’s soul but more because he feels more comfortable with older people than people his own age so he hangs out with them, James’ childhood best friend before he got replaced by Sirius, extremely quiet and awkward, wears goofy socks, plant dad, kinda sarcastic too, rat animagus
Peter+Remus+James+Sirius=The Marauders
Family:
Remus: really close to his mom (Hope), his dad (Lyall) left when he became a werewolf (when Remus was around 5), poor
James: extremely loving family, pureblood but they are not really recognized as such because they are not blood supremacists, his mom(Euphemia) is a literal angel, she’s the nicest person you could possibly meet, his dad (Fleamont) too although he’s more reserved, they are rich because his dad created a hair potion, his family took Sirius in and treated him like a son
Peter:we don’t really know anything about his family
Sirius: comes from The most ancient and noble house of Black, extreme blood supremacists, there is a lot of incest to stay pureblood, his mother (Walburga) uses crucio on him (a torture curse that is seen as an unforgivable in the wizarding world), she is cruel both psychologically and physically, his dad (Orion) doesn’t do anything, he doesn’t even care, they still do arranged marriages in his family (again for the whole pureblood thing), Sirius has a brother named Regulus, Regulus has been mad at Sirius since he ran away because he didn’t take him with him, Regulus and Sirius are very close but they have a very very complicated relationship
Additional Info:
-Remus is very close to the nurse that takes care of him after the full moon (Poppy), he almost considers her like a mom
-Sirius is extremely close to one of their professors (Minerva McGonagall), he totally considers her like his mother and she kind of does too (he calls her ‘’Minnie’’)
-Minerva and Poppy are a couple
-James and Sirius bully Snape
-the Marauders are friends with Marlene Mckinnon, Lily Evans, Mary Macdonald and Emmeline Vance and in certain fanfics with the Slytherin Skittles
-Remus and Sirius are a couple in the fandom (their couple is called Wolfstar)
In canon:
-James and Lily are married and have a son(Harry)
-Sirius goes to prison (Azkaban) for 12 years for the murder of James,Lily and Peter(he’s innocent), he escapes
-Peter betrays the rest of the Marauders, he tells Voldemort where James and Lily are, Voldemort kills them, then Peter cuts one of his fingers off so it seems like he died and resumes his life in the form of his animagus
-Remus gets married to Nymphadora Thonks and has a child named Teddy
-Sirius dies a little after coming back from Azkaban
-Remus and Nymphadora die fighting in the war
Recommendations:
- I know you’ve probably been recommended to read All the Young Dudes by mskingbean89 but I’d recommend you don’t actually, I believe it doesn’t capture the dynamic between the Marauders well, I also feel like the descriptions of the characters in it are not good but if you don’t mind that, it’s still really well written
I’d recommend this instead:
-Crimson Rivers by bizarrestars
-Just lovers (like we were supposed to be) by bizarrestars
- Cadence of the Part Time Poets by motswolo
- All in or all out by TheBiButterfly
- Only the Brave by solmussa
-Like Real People Do by third_crow
- Blinding Lights by introvertedhufflepuff
⭐️to really get their dynamic, I’d say Just Lovers is the best one
So yeah, that’s about it, good luck
EDUCATE ME ON THE MARAUDERS

I Love You || James Potter
Pairing: James Potter x Fem!Reader
Words: 2096 words
Warning: Fluff, Insecurity, Emotional talk, Panic attack
___________________________________________________________
Y/N was the talk of Hogwarts. Intelligent, Sarcastic, Funny, Athletic but most of all, beautiful inside and out. The kindest soul to walk the grounds of Hogwarts. Kind to the Slytherins that bullied her, kind to the children who adored her.
It was no secret that James Potter was absolutely head over heels in love with his amazing girlfriend. Both of them were the ideal couple. Quidditch players, smart students, attractive looks. Girls envied Y/N whereas boys envied James and he liked showing you off as well.
But despite being loved by boys and girls alike, Y/N always had trouble fitting in. The day she transferred from Durmstrang to Hogwarts, she was terrified of how she'll fit in. She was on the verge of a panic attack when a red-head girl had so kindly offered her a hand to show around the castle, thus starting the friendship between Lily Evans and Y/N Y/L/N.
Now, with her friends, Y/N, Lily, Marlene and Dorcas entered the Potions classroom, tired because of laughing so hard from all the way from the Gryffindor dormitory to the Dungeons.
"Welcome ladies. So very kind of you to grace us with your presence", Professor Slughorn's voice seized their noise of laughter. Slughorn had a very sour expression on his face whereas two rows away, James Potter was looking at his girlfriend in awe.
The way her deep blue eyes were glistening in the light and shiny from laughing so hard, the way her lips formed the most beautiful smile James had ever seen in his life, the way her Y/H/C hair framed her perfectly carved face. He was so in love with her.
His thoughts were interrupted by a paper plane hitting the back of his head and falling on the table. He lifted the paper to open it.
Whipped. -Signed Moony, Padfoot and Wormtail.
He turned back to see the three boys trying to muffle the sound of their laughter by putting their hands on their mouths. James rolled his eyes and mouthed "Fuck off".
"We're sorry Professor. It won't happen again", her beautiful voice spoke. James looked around the class to see the boys looking at her with such admiration, It made him want to hex them all into the next century. Only he could see his Y/N with those eyes.
At the same time, James looked back at her just to see she was looking back at him with a smile so warm, it almost melted him.
"It shouldn't happen again. Now get inside. We already lost a lot of time", Slughorn rushed the girls into the class. All of them took their places next to their respective partners, Y/N being paired with Lucius Malfoy whereas James was stuck with Snape who, once in a while looked at him, rolled his eyes and went back to doing what he previously was.
James glanced over Y/N's direction to see Lucius Malfoy laughing silently on something Y/N said, a smile on her face as well. She was too good to people, even if they were undeserving of her kindness.
As time went by, James started getting more aware of the laughing noises coming from where his girlfriend was sitting. There were many thoughts running through his mind.
What if she thinks I'm not good enough.
What if she's not happy with me.
They both look so happy.
She has the ability to see the goodness in even the darkest of souls.
What if I'm not enough for her.
Consumed by his thoughts, he was at the verge of a panic attack when Professor Slughorn announced that the class was dismissed. James quickly picked up his books in one hand, slung his bag over his shoulder and bolted out of the classroom, not even sparing a glance towards Y/N, who was looking at James with concerned eyes.
Y/N sensed something was wrong so she very politely excused herself from Lucius, packed her stuff and ran off to the direction James did.
They had been together for nearly a year now but neither of them had told the other that they were completely and utterly in love with them. Y/N decided to tell him today. Now.
She had been building up her confidence to say this to him for a while now and that's what she was discussing with the girls earlier in the day until Marlene had changed the topic into something too hilarious.
She climbed the stairs that led to the Gryffindor Common Room, hoping she would find James there. She entered the Common Room to hear the sound of heavy breathing alongside muffled sobs coming from the boys' dormitory.
A lump formed in her throat as she slowly made her way towards the source of the sound. She opened the Marauders' room to find James sitting in a corner of the room with his knees scrunched up to his stomach, elbows on his knees and hands in his hair. He was shaking violently from the pressure of his sobs.
Y/N stood there trying to absorb the situation. Her strong, smart, funny boyfriend was sitting in a secluded corner of a room crying because of God knows what.
She slowly took steps towards him and fell on her knees in front of him. He somehow felt her presence as he stopped shaking and tried wiping away his tears but Y/N stopped his hand from reaching his face.
"You should be in class Y/N", he said, his voice raspy from crying so badly. Y/N's heart broke at the sight in front of her. He didn't lift up his head as he talked to her.
"And you should be dropping me to class", she spoke in a calming voice, trying to soothe him. Whenever she talked in this manner, James' nerves always calmed down but somehow this time, they only grew. His breathing started getting heavy again but he refused to look in her direction.
He knew he was over-thinking. He also talked to girls but Y/N never reacted in this way whereas when Y/N talked to any guy, he would start feeling this indescribable feeling to break that guy's face.
Y/N detected his heavy breathing and placed her hand on his bicep. James felt her soothing touch and his breathing returned to normal. Y/N then placed her hand on his already messy hair and started massaging his head, something she knew James liked.
He looked up to see her eyes full of concern and tears at the brims of them. As soon as Y/N looked into his eyes, a tear escaped her eye. His hazel eyes didn't have that mischievous glint in them; they had a broken look in them, like he lost something very dear to him.
James' hand was quick to wipe away the tear that left Y/N's eye. She looked so concerned for him. Just for him.
"James what's wrong?" she asked, her voice so calm, so enchanting.
"Is everything ok? Are Mia and Monty ok? Did something happened to Sirius? Are you hurt?" she bombarded him with concerning questions.
He shook his head as an indication that nothing of that sort happened. Her eyebrows furrowed as she spoke in a low voice:
"Did I do something wrong? I messed up. Didn't I?"
James quickly stood up on his feet, ears ringing from anger. How could she think that she did something to sadden him. She's perfect in every way. A perfect friend, a perfect girlfriend, a perfect daughter.
Y/N also stood up quickly, her hand falling from James' head.
"HOW COULD YOU THINK THAT?" he practically screamed at her.
"HOW COULD YOU THINK THAT YOU DID SOMETHING THAT COULD EVER SADDEN ME?"
By now he had lost all his senses. Nothing mattered more to him that his Y/N. His.
"You're the reason I smile everyday. You are the reason I wake up everyday. Just to look at you. You bring joy in my life, happiness that I never knew existed. Everything you do is so bloody perfect. You are so perfect", he spoke in a hushed voice but loud enough for Y/N to hear.
"And I can't even begin to thank you for all that you've done to me, for me. But me? What did I do to you besides showing you public affection? I never talked to you in class. I didn't buy gifts for you. I didn't stand up for you in class. I don't deserve you", he spoke, his eyes no longer connected to Y/N's.
She looked at the boy standing in front of him. That confident, arrogant toe-rag who looked so vulnerable right now.
"I see how the other boys look at you. With such admiration in their eyes. Whenever I find them staring at you, it just makes me feel as if I'm not good enough for you. I'll never be able to-"
He was cut off by Y/N throwing a pillow at his face. He finally looked up to see her face stained with tears, similar as his. Her eyes weren't glistening with happiness, they were glistening with sadness. Sadness that he could think he's not good enough for her.
"WHY WOULD YOU THINK THAT?" It was her turn to scream now.
"WHY WOULD YOU THINK THAT YOU ARE NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME", she shouted, tears falling from her eyes.
James was staring at Y/N with wide eyes. She was such a calm-spoken person and hearing her shout was new. But some part of him calmed down hearing her defend him.
"James, none of those boys were there for me when I needed help, none of them comforted me after my nightmares, none of them helped me catch up to my studies, none of them defended me from bullies. It was you. It was you all along", she said in a calm voice yet tears were still silently flowing from her eyes.
"You're the best thing that's ever happened to me James Potter. I don't care how those boys look at me. I care about how YOU look at me. You make me strong Potter. You make me happy", she said with a smile. I teary smile made its way to James' face as well.
"And I have absolutely no idea why you're so insecure about yourself because-", she stopped and took a deep breath.
"Because I love you James Potter. And even if I have to remind you that, I'll do it every single day, I will. Because I'll go any lengths just to be with you", she ended with a sniff.
James stood frozen, staring at her. Looking into her eyes.
Love.
He saw love in her eyes. Love for him. Not Lucius, not anybody. Him.
Before he knew it, he was taking fast steps towards her and slammed his lips to hers. This felt right. It felt as though they were home. In each other's arms. A comfortable warmth spread through their bodies as they held each other close with an intention of never letting go. Y/N was his drug and he gladly surrendered to her.
They broke apart with a smile etched on both of their faces.
"I love you Y/N. I love you more than myself", he said, sincerity in his voice.
"I know. I'm just too irresistible", she said, flipping her hair off her shoulder and looking at James with a smile that he wished he he could see everyday.
James pulled her into a comfortable embrace. Her hands rested on his neck and his on her waist, pulling her close. He dug his face into the crook of her neck.
"I'm never letting you go Mrs. Potter", his voice came out muffled. She let out a small chuckle which made blood rise to James' cheeks.
Suddenly, she pulled apart and looked at him with a glint in her eyes that meant trouble.
"Did you get jealous because I was talking to Lucius earlier?", she asked with a raised eyebrow. James didn't reply, just looked down, his face getting redder. she let out a laugh.
"Oh my god. I absolutely have to tell Pads and Moony you got jealous of Lucius", she shouted as she darted towards the exit, looking at James one more time before winking at him and left.
Too surprised to do anything, he let out a laugh of his own. A laugh of happiness, a laugh of love.

The Days Past
Chapter 2 Of Wooing Sirius Black! On AO3
Happy Prongsfoot Wednesday!
***
Although James and Sirius have a great date discussing days past, Sirius still feels a bit insecure about their new dating situation. Meanwhile, James seeks out advice from a friend that leads him on his mission.
***
August 6th, 1983
Despite the uncertainty of letting Spencer and Evan watch Harry, James is having the time of his life on their date.  Sirius’ planned date was even more romantic than James had initially believed it would be.
It was cozy and intimate, wrapping his arms around Sirius’ waist as they zoomed through the countryside.  The odd privacy of their hike and becoming one with nature.  The picnic beside the waterfall.  It felt like it was just the two of them against the world.
      It was perfect.
Plus, there was just something special about the freedom of exploring the world in this little adventure that reminded James of days past.  The days of running around the forest, planning pranks, sneaking around Hogwarts.  The days of just the two of them against the world.
Being happy, carefree and totally irresponsible.  Just enjoying life.
He misses it.
He loves it and he loves that he could have that experience again, even if just for a few hours.
“You look happy,” Sirius grins at him as they sit beside the nearest waterfall.
James squeezes his hand.  “I am happy, Si.  It’s been an adventure day reminding me of the days past.”
      Sirius chuckles, “The days past?”
“Yeah, you know.  The great days.  The happy days.  The adventurous days.  The two of us running around Hogwarts like kings of the castle,” James smiles.
Sirius chuckles, clearly happy, “No one could beat Padfoot and Prongs best mate duo of the world.”
James bumps him.  “We were the best.  I could never meet anyone that got me the way you did – even Lily, she was great and amazing and all that, but she never really understood our love for adventuring in the dead of night to the depths of Hogwarts just to see what’s there.  She loved a good joke, but she never loved our jokes and pranks the way we did.”
Sirius nods, “Yeah – yeah, we definitely had a lot of fun.”
“She also really never got the nature thing – just not her cup of tea,” James continues.
He had been a bit disappointed that Lily didn’t love nature the way he did, especially after he told her about Prongs.  She was amazed by his achievement, but quite disappointed by the stories of adventures through the forest.
“Hmm-mm,” Sirius hums.  “I know, Jay – you know, if you wanted – Padfoot and Prongs could go for a run right now?”
“Nah,” James shakes his head.  He’s not really a fan of Prongs ever since that Halloween.  If he hadn’t had Prongs to turn into, then Remus wouldn’t have asked for his full moon support, and James would’ve been home where he should’ve been that night.  It’s not really Remus’ fault, but James has come to blame his Animagus form as the reason for his being gone that night.  “It’s probably better that we don’t – how’d we explain a stag and a dog hanging out together by the waterfall?”
“We wouldn’t – we would just run off and they’ll always wonder,” Sirius jokes.  “Just like the good old days, right?”
It would be exactly like the good old days.  None of them had been particularly careful.  They always laughed off everything that happened those nights – the innocent things (like confusing one of the Hogsmeade villagers) and the not so innocent things (like the near-misses).  It was all just a laugh.
“You mean, all those times that the people of Hogsmeade had spotted us and that we had to run fast and escape them?” James questions with a frown.  “All those times that something bad could’ve happened?”
He used to think of those near-misses as fun adventures, and he does still love Prongs, but it just brings back the memory of being with Remus that night instead of with Lily and he can’t look at those things the same way.  (Of course, it didn’t help that Lily discovering their secret had led to a huge argument about their recklessness).  It was surprising that she’d even been supportive that night or that she had come around as long as there were better precautions.
“You okay?” Sirius questions, obviously picking up on James’ uncertainty.
“Yeah, I just don’t feel like being Prongs, that’s all.”
Sirius nods and checks his watch.  “Well, we wouldn’t have time for a run anyway.  I told Spencer we’d be back before Harry’s bedtime.”
Worried that he might’ve upset Sirius, James gives him a kiss.  “Still, it was a great date, yes?”
“Yes.”
“Good.”
***
Sirius couldn’t help being lost in thought as he moves back to the sitting room after putting Harry to bed.  Their date had gone rather well, but he was disappointed by the mention of Hogwarts and the good old days.  It reminds him that James didn’t choose him back then, coupled with James not wanting to run as Prongs and Padfoot and being compared to Lily, it left the date off on a rather iffy note.
It worries him, if he’s honest.
He loves James, has wanted this for so long, and yet, he can’t help wondering if he was just – easy.
He already knows James and Harry, he already loves both of them, he already lives with them, and he would be an easy lay given that they find each other attractive.  James wouldn’t have to worry about dating and finding a potential stepparent, worrying if they’d like Harry or Harry would like them.  He wouldn’t have to worry about the same difficulties as a normal widower trying to date again if he chose Sirius instead of getting back out there.
Plus, he wouldn't have to worry about the magic secret or lying about what really happened to whichever muggle woman he decides to date.  He wouldn’t have to worry about teaching Harry not to use his magic or covering up his accidental magic.  He wouldn’t have to struggle with making sure he doesn’t let slip about things like Hogwarts and quidditch (like the do with their friends).
It would be difficult to date a muggle over dating Sirius.
He doesn’t have to worry about any of that, not with Sirius, which does make him rather easy.  He just can’t help wondering if James was choosing the easy choice (him) or if he actually wants him (and he’s just lucky that Sirius is easy).
He knows what he wants the answer to be, but he worries that it could be the opposite.
He pulls out his crossword and begins doing it to distract himself, not at all surprised when it doesn’t work.  He just can’t stop thinking about the sudden comments comparing him to Lily and their relationship to James and Lily’s relationship.  He can’t stop thinking about the way James seems to expect sex from him despite only having two dates, and he can’t stop thinking about the way James had gone from offering to take him out and plan a great date – treat him the same way he’d done for Lily – to not actually planning either date or mentioning any possible dates that they could do.
It’s like snogging Sirius (and getting sex) was his goal and nothing else would change.  At least not much.
The worst part is that Sirius had thought things would be different.  James wasn’t supposed to be like the other men Sirius had been with.  He wasn’t supposed to be after an easy lay (and a replacement for Lily), he was supposed to be interested in Sirius as a boyfriend, and eventual husband.
It was just not what he always wanted.  Not what he always imagined their dating life would be like.  He always imagined awesome dates, James’ sole focus on wooing him, spoiling him, and making him realize that he deserves the world.
Instead, he feels like an easy lay, not worth the same effort that Lily had been worth, and it hurt.
But that isn’t fair to James to expect the same treatment, right?  Maybe all he really wants is to have a friends with benefits / coparenting situation.  Maybe he just figured it’d be easy to slip sexual relationship into their friendship and assumed Sirius felt the same way?  Should he say something?  Ask if that’s what he wants?  Sirius doesn’t know.
But then, what would he do if James says yes?  What would he do if James doesn’t really love him or at least potentially love him?  How would he take that?  How would he be able to live with James knowing that’s all he wants?
He couldn’t.
Thus, Sirius could never ask that, he wouldn’t be able to deal with it.  So, he wouldn’t ever be able to know.  Not for sure, anyway.
He frowns, but then why would he announce to everyone that Sirius is his boyfriend?  Maybe he just confused the two things?
So lost in thought, he doesn’t notice James saunter in in just his underwear, again, until he leans into him and plants a kiss on his cheek.
“Why the long face?  Didn’t you enjoy our date?”
“Oh, of course.  It’s just - er - I’m just a bit tired is all,” Sirius lies.  “Think I’ll go to bed early.”
Sirius gets up causing James to fall a bit into the couch.
James frowns, “Already?  I was hoping that we could enjoy some alone time.  Snogging or something else?”
Sirius shakes his head, further disappointed.  “Not tonight.”
He kisses James’ cheek and walks away.  He doesn’t want to deal with it anymore tonight.

August 13
th
, 1983
“I don’t get it,” James complains to Jackie, who’s sitting next to him at the park.  He’s watching Sirius with Harry and Jackie’s son, Nathan, from the bench.  The other kids from the ‘Mummy and me’ class are there as well, but Sirius had volunteered to watch over them, allowing the other mums to mingle amongst themselves while he watched the kids.
      “Don’t get what?” Jackie questions.
“Why doesn’t he want to have sex with me?” James questions, wincing at the slight whine in his voice.
“It could have something to do with the fact that you have only been dating for a month,” Jackie suggests.  “After all, he did say that he wanted to take things slow.”
“Yes, but he’s never been this slow with anyone else,” James counters.  “He’s barely had any relationships last this long – most of them were one-night stands.  Waiting and sex don’t usually go with the words ‘Sirius Black’ in the same sentence.”
Jackie shakes her head, “James, he plainly told you that you’re different – he’s been into you forever and those other men didn’t mean anything to him – not like you do.  Do you think maybe he cares a little bit about making sure that the relationship doesn’t get screwed up?”
“Since when does sex with your partner screw things up?”
“I don’t know – ask Jodi or Christine – they’re always complaining that they are unhappy with their husbands.”
“That’s not due to sex – it’s due to lack of sex,” James counters.  “Jodi hasn’t had sex since she had the twins over a year ago and Christine claims that she just hasn’t been in the ‘mood’.”
Jackie gives him a look.  “Christine’s issues are more complicated than that, she just doesn’t trust a man to side with her over it.”
      “Oh?  And why’s that?”
“Because men tend to only focus on their needs during sex and you’re going to say –”
“That’s not true.  I’m sure Brian cares about her needs during sex…”
Jackie gives him a look.  “Have you met Brian?  The man never made any attempt to continue wooing her and paying attention to her needs after the first few dates.”
“Why would she continue to date him or have a kid with him, then?” James asks, completely confused.
“She was young – still a teenager.  She fell in love with a jerk to everyone else but great to her – convinced that she saw someone else and everyone else was wrong.  That she could change him all those times he wasn’t the best.  Claimed she had the best sex ever – then she got pregnant…”
“And they got married and had little Stella over there and she’s barely twenty and a stay-at-home mother when that’s not what she wanted?” James guesses.  “No wonder she always looks unhappy – I should befriend her.”
“And talk about how you can’t get your husbands to put out?” Jackie teases.
“He’s not my husband,” James retorts.  Lily’s still his wife, even gone, so he feels weird with the idea of Sirius as his husband.  Although that’s definitely something for the future.  “And I was thinking we could talk about how to get them to ‘put out’ rather than bemoan not getting any.”
Jackie laughs, “You could give it a try, but I’d like to point out that she hasn’t been getting any in three years and you can’t handle a month.”
“Technically it’s been twenty-one and half months.  My wife and I had sex on Halloween afternoon while Harry was napping.”
Jackie gives him a look that clearly states that she didn’t need to know that.  “Yes, but you’ve only been dating for a month – you can’t expect him to put out when you’re not even dating.”
“Fair point.  Still, it doesn’t change the fact that we’ve known each other forever and have been living together sharing a bed for almost two years – surely that leads to the sex early on in the relationship.”
Like on the day of them getting together.  Maybe that was unfair, but James had been thinking about it for a while.  He assumed with Sirius’ confession about how long he’d been thinking about it that he’d easily jump into the sexual component of their relationship.
      Except clearly, Sirius felt differently.
“Let’s try a different take – how long did you date your wife before you had sex?”
James frowns.  He and Lily had gotten together in December of their seventh year, but although she had begun fancying him towards the end of sixth year, she was still uncertain about their potential longevity when they finally got together.  He had grown up quite a bit, but it wasn’t exactly enough.  Thus, he had to go through a lot of effort to woo her before getting to the sex stage of the relationship.  Their first time had been six months after they got together as a celebration for finishing Hogwarts.
James coughs, “About six months.  I spent a long time wooing her – specifically trying to prove to her that I was boyfriend material.  I don’t have to worry about that with Sirius though.”
“You mean that you don’t have try with him?  One kiss and you can get whatever you want with him without bothering to woo him?” Jackie asks, unbelievingly.  “Don’t you think a man as great as Sirius deserves better than that?”
“I – I … no, that’s not what I meant,” James offers, frowning.  “You think I’m not trying with him?”
Jackie shrugs, “You’ve only been on two dates – dates you didn’t even plan despite initially telling him you’d take him and treat him properly –, and it’s only been a few weeks, yet, you expect something from him that you didn’t expect from your wife.”
Did he expect something different from Sirius?  He supposes that it’s possible.  That he’s assuming Sirius should just give him what he wants, but that’s not really fair for either of them.
“Yeah, I – I guess,” James mumbles, feeling a bit down and confused.  Clearly, Jackie thinks he should try a bit harder with Sirius and she’s probably right.  After all, Sirius deserves the world for how great he’s been to James over the years.
Jackie smiles, a gives him a slight pat of condolence.  “It’s been a while since you had to date and woo someone – I think you should try that.”
“Yeah, I think I will,” James smiles.  “In fact, I think I have an idea.”
***
James had gotten Jackie to watch Harry for the evening and planned to take Sirius out on a murder mystery dinner date.  James knows that Sirius enjoys solving mysteries and it would be a more interesting dinner date than a regular dinner date.
It’s particularly great because the location of the date was only a twenty-minute walk from their home, and it means they can take a slow walk hand-in-hand there.
“So, what sparked this random date?” Sirius asks, once they begin walking.
“Hmm-mm, I just thought you’d be interested in attending one of these,” James grins.  “Do you not like the idea?”
“Of course I do, I’m just surprised.  You went from not wanting Harry out of your sight for over a year to suddenly leaving him with a babysitter for a few hours multiple times in a few weeks.”
Sirius is right, of course, but James trusts Jackie with Harry and Harry loves spending time with Nathan, so it appears to be the perfect solution.
“Harry loves Nathan and Jackie offered.”
“Hmm-mm, and why did she offer?” Sirius asks, suspicious.
“I don’t know – I just mentioned wanting to take you out and she knows how iffy I am about people taking care of Harry, so it fits for her to offer,” James offers, uncertain about Sirius’ suspicions.  Isn’t this what he wants?
Sirius doesn’t look like he quite believes him, but smiles, nonetheless.  “Alright then, it is nice to go out on a beautiful night like this.”
James grins, relieved, “Exactly, so don’t complain.”
      “I’m not – I’m not, I swear.  Just surprised.”
      “Why?”
Sirius shrugs, “I just didn’t realize that you even knew that I like murder mysteries.”
“Well, you were an auror and … I did see that you’ve started reading murder mystery novels.”
One of their friends had given Sirius a murder mystery novel after he told her that he used to work in detective work, and Sirius had been sneaking others into their shopping bags whenever they go pick up supplies and reading them whenever James otherwise occupied.
“And I’ve been meaning to ask – why have you been hiding them when we go shopping?”
Sirius flushes, “I don’t know – thought you might take the mickey or something because I never really showed an interest before.”
James squeezes his hand, “You should feel comfortable telling me what you like.”
      “Oh, I – I do.  It’s just different, something I hadn’t imagined I would like.”
“When I spotted one of them, I snuck a peak – I thought it was perfect for you,” James smiles.
“Thanks, love – er – Jay.”
James feels flutters in his stomach at being called ‘love’ by Sirius.  He hadn’t felt that in so long that he’s forgotten how good it feels.  He pulls him to a stop and kisses him deeply.  Mere inches from Sirius’ lips, he breathes, “I like that.”
“Kissing?” Sirius teases.  “I had no idea with how much time we’ve spent kissing since the fifteenth.”
James chuckles.  “Well, I do enjoy all of our snogging, but no, I meant – calling me ‘love’.”
      “Oh?” Sirius questions.
“Yeah,” James grins, giving him another kiss.  “It’s different and good compared to ‘honey’ and ‘sweetie’, I like it.”
He had always felt a little awkward like some sort of child whenever Lily called him ‘sweetie’ but hadn’t wanted to stop her from anything that she wanted because he always felt like being with her was a dream – one wrong thing and she’d wake up and decide not to be with him.  He couldn’t risk it.
Luckily, he doesn’t feel that way with Sirius, he can be himself with Sirius and the nickname love brought the best feelings to him.
“Alright, then,” Sirius says.  “Then, we’ve got a date to get to, Love.  So, we should keep walking.”
James surges forward and gives him a kiss.  “You’re right, Si.  We don’t want to miss it.”
      “Exactly.”

Jily Fanfic Rec
I said I wanted to make a rec list, but as I read a lot of fanfic Hinny, a lot, I need more time, but in the meantime, here's an Jily Rec, because I love them..
so as not to get an excessively long list, I'll just put the ones shots that are in my bookmarks and that I love very much
Maybe I'll do another one, with Multi-Chapter, or more One Shot :)
ONE-SHOT (AU and Canon Compliant)
color theory - @clare-with-no-i
''Lily Evans learns about love: its hues, its tints, its shades. Some disappoint. Some dazzle.''
one of the last fanfics I've read, and it's beautiful, it's just adorable ho Lily learns what love is, and I love fanfics where Lily dates before James, I think those are the most real ones and the ones I like the most.
Reunion - @writtenbyfreckles
"Get your robes off." Lily started. Stared. "What?" Instead of responding, hands started to pull at her clothing. She batted them away. ''Oi. Hey! Are you in a time warp? This isn't high school. We don't do that anymore."
I don't usually read fanfic where James and Lily aren't together, but since I love whatever Freckles writes, I readed, and my god, it's just ... Damn.
It's so cute, to say the least, James's concern, Lily's insecurity... I don't know much to say, it's very good, I love it
Wildflowers - @YouBlitheringIdiot
“Hold still for a minute!” James is lying on his back, hands behind his head, the warm afternoon sunshine on his closed eyelids, a stupid grin on his face. He half opens an eye and blinks up at her. “Evans, what are you doing?” his voice heavy with Summer stupor. “Oxeye daisy,” she replies. Her hands thread through his hair, small fingers nimbly moving, wordless magic twisting the stem into place.
This fanfic broke my heart, with such cuteness, and with the end of it.
Read, that's all I can say.
Summer heat - @startanewdream
James is late and the summer heat always brings out Lily's emotions.
Okay, me again putting Mah on my lists.
I just wanted to choose one, but I recommend all of hers, but this one in particular has a place in my heart. I love how she writes Jily so well
And it was - @midnightelite
Lily is in love with her best friend who also happens to be her soulmate. It sucks that James isn't interested in her, but she is determined to get through this trip. She will figure out how to continue cohabitating together when they're back home.
I don't have a very good memory to remember just from the synopsis of the stories, but this one, when I read soumates and saw what I had written in the bookmark, I knew what it was.
I also don't read a lot of Soulmate fanfic - even if ironically I'm writing one - but this is one of my favorites, without a doubt
Nah, She Didn't - @jilythot
the seven times Sirius Black said "Nah, she didn't" about James and Lily.
This fanfic is on Sirius' POV, and I was trying not to post several fanfics here so it wouldn't get too big, but I can't let this one go, I think it was one of the first ones I read, along with another one that I will link to too, and I love this story
it's another story that I just read the name and already knew exactly what it was
The Most Brilliant Baby in the World - @magic-girl-in-a-muggle-world
“...and you’ll be a brilliant Quidditch player, even better than I was!”
If I'm not mistaken, this was one of the first Jily fanfic I read, and it was a fanfic that made me cry, and made me write for the first time about Jily.
This fanfic is beautiful, I was separating the links and I knew that this could not be missing, I remember talking to my friend about this story, and being totally emotional.
If I didn't convince you to read this story, I don't know what will.
james potter's #1 rule for primary school pick up - @goingmywaydoll
James has one rule for picking up Harry from school and he really doesn’t think it’s that hard to follow.
another great story, I love it when Jily lives and we can see them doing normal parenting things, and having dilemmas like this ahahahha
a great fanfic

Why do I think Lily Evans (Potter) was not a good friend?
Until recently, the general opinion of the fandom was that Lily Potter was a good girl, deified and the representation of purity and goodness. But, doing a more exhaustive study of the character, we can get to see how Lily evans maybe was not so holy and made mistakes due to her education and, possibly, depending on the stage of her life where she found herself when she made those mistakes.
In relation to Severus Snape, I think she was not a good friend. Regardless of his age, which we all understand that we do not see friendship in childhood, adolescence or adulthood, she also had defects that compared to other characters in the saga, they were not a role model.
Starting from the little we know about her through the worst memory and Snape's memories, we are going to take some situations into account to assess her defects:
She blamed Snape for the letter Petunia sent to Dumbledore.
She got mad at Snape for dropping a branch on Petunia, even though he did so unconsciously and Petunia was rude to him.
The discussion with Snape about what happened with Remus (werewolf accident), his distrust of who was her friend and believing others before, not caring about Snape.
The lake scene, where she never addressed Snape once, as if he didn't know him and was just another boy to help.
The same lake scene, where she taunted Snape after he called her "Mudblood".
Now, let's talk about the problems at different levels (social, emotional, mental, physical and cultural):
Social: Snape comes from a lower social class than Lily and, although at first the girl Lily did not see the difference, I suppose that as time passed she realized that it did not look good for Snape to wear second hand clothes (surely ), he had serious problems in the family sphere, Snape's own unsociable nature that did not allow him to have a larger group of friends. In childhood we do not usually take into account the social variable when making friends with other children (pre-Hogwarts), but as she became related to the peer group at Hogwarts, she surely could not help feeling somewhat ashamed of the friendship with Snape . Let me explain, in Snape's adulthood it seems that no one knew about Lily and Snape's friendship, so it would be a secret friendship (and we all know that shame towards the other is what leads to secret friendships and relationships).
Emotional: Lily quickly connected with Snape because there was something she needed from him, and it was the knowledge and the desire to be accepted in a place like Hogwarts. Hogwarts was a new world that she did not know and Snape could offer her the security of knowing that world ... But, when she knew what she had to know, Snape had nothing more to offer her, but a clandestine and unrewarding friendship for her. It is not a mistake to think this, but it does show that she deliberately used Snape and that their friendship deteriorated over time. I think she might have felt friendship for Snape in a pure way, but when she began to be friends with the marauders, her emotional level turned towards these guys and she began to move away from Snape. I think the dark arts were an excuse to end the friendship, wanting to get away from him in an interested way ... it's easy to think that, when you really feel empathy for someone, you try to make the effort to understand that person, to know why him he likes the dark arts. However, she Lily was not able to understand him, understand his fears, his insecurities and the need to flee from the hell where he was stuck.Referring to the lake scene, I think Lily had a complete dissociation from Snape by now, she didn't defend being his friend, she didn't speak to him directly even once, and when he made a mistake due to the situation, she scoffed of him and "flirted" with James.
Mental: I think Lily never understood the true meaning of friendship, not at least as she later taught us Harry by understanding Ron and Hermione and accepting his flaws, even when this child was only 11 years old. I think that Lily, as soon as she could, got rid of Snape because she no longer wanted to have an uncomfortable friend, a friend who surely helped her for years in her studies at Hogwarts (I mean surely potions). Snape was like a teacher for Lily in her access to the magical world, he helped her in the study and knowledge of the magical world and I think that Lily stopped seeing usefulness when she already found in Gryffindor and the marauders the way to go her way . I mean, I think she coldly weighed whether or not she was interested in staying friends with Snape and she conveniently cut off the friendship when she got the chance. Lily showed herself to be a cold person who did not understand what Snape was in her whole and who did not appreciate all that he had done for her.I know that calling her "Mudbloods" was not right, but instead of trying to understand the shame and harassment that Snape felt at that time, she broke off the friendship and remained friends with the stalker, the one who emotionally blackmailed her and who continued to be a bully. No one can convince me otherwise.
Physical: here we will talk about the implications of a person who is not really physically attractive. There are studies that determine that people who do not fit the standards of beauty tend to have fewer opportunities in social relationships, love relationships or even find a job. With all this I mean that, when we are children, we do not care about anyone's physical appearance, but when we reach adolescence, our group of equals teach us the canons of beauty, which is considered handsome or what not. In this case, I think Lily was superficial. That is to say, Snape was not physically attractive, surely he did not look comfortable being with him because she was a popular, pretty girl, and he was attracted to a boy who was much more attractive than Snape (even though James was, in my opinion, uglier emotionally and disrespectful to others, adding being a bully). Lily preferred to go for the handsome boy rather than choose a loyal friend who was unattractive.
Cultural: At this level many factors enter, but here I will choose to talk about the differences of ideologies and different culture between Slytherin and Gryffindor. As we know, both houses were enemies, they were the contrast between good and evil in the Harry Potter saga. Slytherin represented everything bad and Gryffindor everything good. Here we also talk about the peer group (that is, a group of people that we consider our equals and from whom we learn cultural, social, emotional and behavioral factors), where Lily in the end ended up choosing to choose Gryffindor and be immersed in ideas prefabs that already existed about Slytherin even though, surely, many ideas were not true. Some of these ideas were hatred towards the "dirty bloods", defending the purity of blood, ambition as a negative element and cunning as if it were something bad that always leads to cheating.Where I see these preconceptions most clearly is in the scene where Lily argues with Snape for defending Mulciber, etc ... in this scene it seems that Lily puts the marauders before (she is supposed to talk about them) because they are from her house and believes that what Mulciber does is worse because he is in Slytherin. Being in Gryffindor, she is believed to have the moral superiority and the right to claim Snape to choose a position, when obviously Snape, like Lily, will choose their peer group. The point here is that Lily prefers to believe the marauders and put Snape in the guilty position, without even asking if his friend is okay or asking him what he saw ... Lily is not interested in knowing what happened because surely he was content with James's version and would always doubt any version Snape could give it.
Up to here, I did my study. It is a bit lazy, I wrote it on the fly and remembering some of the knowledge I acquired when I was studying Pedagogy. But, in essence, I hope you have understood. In the end, Lily opted for what she considered to be okay based on ideas and beliefs that she ended up having with her peer group. She put her friendship with the marauders first and decided to coldly and selfishly eliminate her friendship with Snape. In the end, we have all had friends from whom we have moved away because they no longer shared things with us (although I can presume that I never alienated anyone for thinking differently or liking things that I did not like), but also friends that we have from all our lives, with those of us who do not like things about them, but accept them and try to understand them, where the company of that person is valued more and we do not care what they tell us. It is true that the "peer group" exerts a lot of influence on us, despising those who consider strange people or have unusual habits for the majority of the population. But Snape and Lily met in childhood, this factor should not have been decisive for their estrangement and, I am afraid, that in the almost of Lily, he ended up accepting the conditions of his peer group to the detriment of maintaining a friendship that so much contributed. I don't hate Lily, I have no problem with her, for me she really is a flat character, too overrated and that only has a few three lines in the entire Harry Potter saga. It is impossible to empathize with her as we would with other characters and she hardly has any development of her. The most remarkable thing about her is that she gave her life for her son, otherwise she showed us a girl who had a strange friendship with Snape and who married the popular boy of her time.

Part 2
Tumblr media
There were ants in your bones, there must’ve been. Either that or someone was trying to feather dust their way out of them. Your entire body itched with the urge to move, to run, to scream and jump in the middle of the street. You couldn’t quite put your finger on what drove this overwhelming desire, perhaps it was some sort of primal reason coded into your DNA, alternatively maybe it was the sitting at your computer all day. One could only attend so many online classes before they went insane, and a decent way into your second semester and still no sign of going back in person anytime before the next school year. You were like a purebred who desperately needed exercise. It would’ve been a simple enough fix if it wasn’t already 10:17, the sun having set four or so hours ago, even though you lived in a pretty nice area you didn’t feel comfortable going out. Men were disgusting, and going out this late alone meant risking life and limb because too many men thought it was okay to touch what wasn’t theirs. Fucking toddlers. So instead you were forced to open your windows in attempts to replicate the natural breeze and try to find another outlet for your energy. You tried. You really did. Jumping jacks, planks, the few yoga poses you could recall off the top of your head, dancing around your house to your favorite songs, but the music didn’t feel like it usually did, even it couldn’t soothe the itching in your bones. You were fucked, simply and truly. Too energetic without the proper outlet. After none of those things worked you sat down to attempt to get some of your weekend homework done, but somewhere between ionization energy and confidence intervals you found yourself picking at your nail polish instead of paying attention to your work. Groaning you threw your head down onto your desk, wincing as the pain from the impact spread through your skull. Closing your eyes you tried to imagine it, the cool night air in your face, blowing through your mangled tresses, the thud of your feet against the pavement of the sidewalk, the feeling of the grass at the park tickling your exposed skin as you stared up at the cloudy sky, looking for stars. You swore you could almost feel it all, almost pulled into bliss when you were yanked from your reprieve by the buzzing of your phone. Groaning, you pulled your head up, it wobbled on your neck, as though it was loose and needed to be tightened. Had you wanted to you couldn’t have stopped the smile that broke across your phone when you saw the notification on your lock screen, a text from James. Can I call you? Sure. You typed out waiting anxiously for your ringtone to blare through your room. Instead you were met with another brief buzz. One second, Sirius is being an idiot. Another smile, smaller than the last, bloomed across your face, Sirius was often an idiot. Picking up your phone you pressed it to your ear just in time to hear James greet you. “Hey baby.” Loving James was potentially one of the easiest things you’d ever done, if asked you would've said it would be easier to stop breathing before you stopped loving him. There was just so much to love and as his voice tickled your ear you remembered one of the things you so loved about him, the sound of his voice. With two simple words he was able to soothe you, if only a little bit. But still the ache to be outside lessened a little. “Hi Jamsie.” You crooned into the phone as you shut down your laptop coming to the conclusion you were going to get jack shit done tonight. You distantly heard Sirius in the background but couldn’t make out any words, “Pads says hi.” James conveyed. “Hi Siri!” You yelled into the phone, you waited until the bickering and laughing on their side of the phone quieted before continuing, “Whatcha callin’ about bub?” “Missed you is all, was wondering what you were doing?” “Nothing much, tried to get some homework done.” James chuckled knowing how distracted you could get if someone wasn’t there to help you stay on track, “How’d that go?” “Not well,” You grumbled, “S’not my fault either, can’t focus. I just need some fresh air, I need to go on a walk but I can’t.” Flinging your body onto your bed and landing on your back you pulled the phone from your ear, turning it onto speaker and setting it on your belly, liking the vibrations against your body as James spoke. It was almost like he was there with you. “I’m sorry darling,” James knew exactly what you were talking about. Unlike a lot of men he wasn’t afraid to broach topics like these, he would sit and kiss your head if some guy at the grocery store had been a prick and couldn't keep his eyes or his hands off of your ass, or if one of the boys in your class had made an objectifying comment. He’d listen to you lament and apologize, on behalf of all men, for the disgusting things you were forced to deal with. He had learned a lot since you started dating, he’d always been a feminist but before you hadn’t really understood what that meant. His mother and father always made sure he was aware of gender biases and he’d heard stories of women being assaulted, harassed, discriminated against and perhaps it made him a bad person but when it happened to you, when you told him about these things it was different, it was worse, he couldn’t control the rage that bubbled up inside of him. You were (Y/N) (L/N), you were his, you deserved to be treated like royalty. No one got to disrespect you. He felt the pang in his heart when he pictured you holed up in your house, like a caged animal, desperate to get out. “I know, and I love you.” You responded, knowing he hated how you had to be afraid and cautious all the time. “I love you too.” “What were you doing before you called?” You asked after a beat. “Watching a movie with mom and Sirius.” A twinge of guilt twisted in your stomach, “Oh, you should go back to them Jamsie, I don’t want to keep you from your family.” James stopped himself before he could tell you that they’d already finished the movie as an idea hit him like most of his ideas hit him, suddenly and fleetingly. Remus once compared them to a freight train. “Okay angel, talk to you later.” “Bye, Jamsie.” He hung up immediately as the last syllable left your lips causing a frown to tug downwards at those aforementioned lips. Sure, you felt a bit guilty that he’d bailed on his mom and Sirius for you but you couldn’t help feeling a little sad that he was so ready to get rid of you the second he had a chance. Feeling all too familiar insecurity simmer from under your sternum questions popped into your head one after another. Did he really want to be with you? Was this all because he just pitied you? Were you just a substitute for Lily? Did his heart still belong to her? What did he even see in you? You couldn’t help but feel like nothing compared to her, she’s Lily Evans. And you’re, well you’re just not. Time had slipped away from you, you hadn’t realised how much until you felt your phone buzz against your stomach and saw that almost 15 minutes had passed since James had hung up on you. You only briefly noted the time before your eyes flashed down to the banner displayed across your screen, another text. Look out your window. Lifting your torso, propping yourself up on your forearms and twisted your head to see James’ smiling face plastered against your window, a huge, beautiful grin, stretching across his face. You could feel a matching one fan out across your face as you skipped to the window, pulling it open relishing in the cool breeze that let itself into your room. “Hey there handsome.” You joked. “Hey beautiful.” “What are you doing outside my window?” You were befuddled, wasn’t he supposed to be watching some Quentin Tarantino or equally violent movies that he and Siri liked? “I was thinking we could go on a walk,” He explained unabashedly. “A walk?” You asked, a blush blossoming on your face, creeping its way down your neck. “You wanted to go on one, yeah?” “I love you.” Was all you said in response, he caught you as you threw yourself into his arms, the middle of your thighs biting into the sill of your window, but you didn’t care. How could you? All you could focus on was the way his arms wrapped around your body, pulling you close to him so he could bury his nose into your hair. “Love you too darling.” There was a part of you, an admittedly large part, that wanted to stay standing there forever but the cool evening air reminded you about how much you wanted that walk. Peeling yourself away from him you placed your chin on his pectoral, not considerably comfortable for either of you, but you were close to each other, and that’s all that mattered. “Come in.” “I was waiting for you to ask.” He winked, slinging one leg over the windowsill giving him room to maneuver his rather large body through the small opening, but James had experience fitting his body into tiny things (namely your cunt). “Are your parents home?” “No, everyone’s gone for the night.” “Why didn’t you tell me baby, I would’ve come over and kept you company.” You felt heat creep back up your neck to your face, embarrassed by the answer. Though your insecurities could swallow you whole when you were alone, they seemed trivial when James was actually there, staring down at you with so much love in his eyes. “Don’t want to be clingy.” The confession bringing even more heat to your cheeks. “Never, (Y/N), absolutely never. If anyone here is clingy it's me not you.” You corrected him, “You’re wonderful.” “So are you bub.” Reassuring you he brushed a piece of hair out of your face. “Now come on! Let’s get some shoes on you and we can go out.”
James was filling up an old water bottle he found in one of the cupboards in case either of you got thirsty when you entered the kitchen, shoes and socks in hand. Your boy smiled at you, twisting the cap of the water bottle on all of the way before setting it on the countertop and moving towards you. “Want me to put your shoes on for you?” “Yes please.” You nodded, grinning cheekily. His large hands found your waist, lifting you up and setting your bum onto the cool counter. Slipping the socks from your hand he knelt down to roll them over your feet, leaving a kiss on the inside of each of your ankles. “You wanna walk to anywhere in particular?” “The park?” You offered, handing him one of your tennis shoes which were a little beat up, but still a long way from needing to be replaced. “The one with the fountain?” “Do you know of any other parks within walking distance?” You snarked, swinging your legs, feeling the need to be outside return, faster and more powerful than before. “Guess not,” He grumbled, looking up at you with a playful smile so you would know he didn’t really take your sarcasm to heart. “Hey watch it!” He chuckled when you accidentally swung your leg a little too hard and knocked his left shoulder with your socked foot. “Sorry.” You apologized looking about as sorry as Sirius usually did when he was apologizing, which honestly wasn’t much. “There you go Cinderella.” He said, as he pat your thigh once he finished tying your laces, rising from his kneeling position. “You think you’re funny do you Potter?” “In fact I do (L/N).” He grinned, sliding you off the counter, onto your feet. “Shall we?” You offered your hand to him which he accepted like a true gentleman. “We shall.”
You were right, but then again, when were you ever wrong? Fresh air was exactly what you needed, the feeling of the wind in your hair, the twigs snapping beneath your weight, the solidness of the ground. You couldn’t remember the last time you had felt this alive. That was probably stupid but it was liberating to be out of your house, and on top of it it was nighttime too. You weren’t often able to be out this late because you usually didn’t have someone to go out with. You had almost forgotten how beautiful it was when there was no glass separating you from the moon and the stars. Despite the fact that his legs were far longer than yours James still had to speed walk to keep up with you. His heart swelled seeing you so happy and carefree as you strode unapologetically down the sidewalk. “Stop walking so fast.” He complained, finally matching your stride as he loosely looped his left arm around your waist, pulling you as close to him as possible while still keeping the two of you moving forward. “Not my fault you’re a slowpoke.” You retaliated but nevertheless still resting your head on his broad shoulder. “It’s nice out isn’t it?” He pondered aloud. “It’s wonderful,” You agreed, closing your eyes and turning your face up towards the sky, trusting James to guide you safely down the sidewalk, “I’m sorry you had to ditch your mom and Siri to come be with me.” You apologized as another wave of guilt from earlier hit you. “I didn’t bubba, we’d already finished the movie when I called you.” “Really?” Your head perked up. “Mhm.” James hummed. “Why didn’t you tell me that?’ “Wanted to surprise you.” He explained and your heart soared, he really was indescribably sweet. “Well I was surprised.” “Good.” “What movie did you watch?” Wondering if your suspicions had been correct. “Forrest Gump.” He responded by popping his “p”. You laughed squeezing two of James’ fingers on the hand splayed across your stomach. “What?” “Nothin’, just thought you and Pads would’ve made your mom watch Reservoir Dogs or something.” “Come on, you know me and Padfoot (Y/N), nothin’ but a couple of softies the two of us.” “Yes, yes you are.” You responded completely seriously. “You were supposed to disagree, he whispered into your ear. “I cannot tell a lie.” “Hey!” He exclaimed in mock offense. “Come on I found the two fo you cuddling when I came over Wednesday, he was literally spooning you Jamsie. It was rather cute really.” James let you have the last word and the two of you were silent for a minute as you passed a house with a line of cars in front of it, stupid fucking people and their stupid fucking parties. You thought, thinking they’re more important than the rest of us, that it’s okay to throw a party during the middle of a pandemic. “There’s a pandemic going on people,” James muttered as you crossed in front of the driveway, as though he was reading your thoughts. You just nestled into him more. Once you cleared the super spreader house it was only a few feet before you turned the corner and your desired destination came into view causing a ginormous smile to practically crack your face in half. “Come on Jamie!” You giggled, grabbing his hand and pulling him down the street towards the park, not even looking both ways as you bolted across the street to the park. You’d always thought that parks and playgrounds and such looked a bit creepy after dark and while today was no exception you still didn’t think twice before bounding up the steps of the play structure. Laughing, you turned your face back up towards the sky as you reached down to slip your shoes and socks off, tossing them off the play structure onto the wood chips scattered across the ground. “You look beautiful up there.” You hadn’t noticed James approach you, but he was now standing at the foot of the play structure, looking up at you. “Come up here with me Jamie, please?” You pleaded, tugging on his arm. “How could I deny you anything?” “Simple,” You responded, “You can’t.” Pushing himself up onto the structure he tried to envelop you in his arms but you squirmed away, giggling. As you ran toward the slide at the opposite end of the playground he broke out into a run after you, purposefully keeping his strides short to give you the upper hand. Breaking out into a sprint as soon as your feet touched the ground you raced towards the open field, James hot on your heels. He chased you around the perimeter of the grassy clearing, the two of you yelling at each other and laughing until your lungs hurt when he finally caught you in his arms, trying to get you as close to him as possible. He loved the feeling of your body against his more than he loved life itself. Or even Sirius. “What should I do with you now that I’ve captured you?” He mused tauntingly, tightening his grip on you. “Well I know one thing you could do to me.” You murmured. “(Y/N) (M/N) (L/N), get your mind out of the gutter Miss,” “Make me.” You teased, wiggling in his grasp. “I know what’ll fix your attitude.” James declared, adjusting his so his arms were around your waist instead of one there and one wrapped around your shoulders. “And what’s that?” “A nice February swim!” He roared jovially, hefting you over his shoulder as he bounded towards the fountain located on the east side of the park. “Jamie!” You shrieked as you bounced against him, “Slow down.” “Sorry Princess,” He huffed once you reached the fountain, he carefully lifted you off his shoulder and sat you down on the ledge of the water feature as he kneeled before you, hands pressing against your thighs. “Come on baby, go swimming with me?” “Course.” You smiled as you reached for the hem of your shirt and pulled it over your head, throwing it somewhere over Jamie’s shoulder. You didn’t bother watching where it landed, too enraptured with the gorgeous boy on his knees in front of you. “You look gorgeous (Y/N).” He murmured, taking it the sight of your bare stomach and chest clad in a lacy lavender bra. “I let you see mine, now get your shirt off Potter!” You commanded impatiently, you loved James all the time, but you especially loved James shirtless. “Okay, okay woman, calm down, I'm moving.” He playfully chastised shrugging off his jacket which you just now realised was his varsity jacket, his last name emblazoned across the back of it. When he caught you staring at him he teasingly played with the hem of his shirt, rolling it in the tips of his fingers until you lightly kicked his bent knee. He then discarded his pants, throwing them and his shirt somewhere to his right, carefully laying his jacket on a bench a few feet away he was left only in his boxers and you took this time to appreciate how his skin shown in the moonlight, his darker complexion brilliant in the darkness of the park. “You wanna keep your shorts on? He lilted, moving towards where you sat on the bench encircling the fountain. You nodded in response, not wanting to be so vulnerable in such a public space. “Okay baby sounds good.” James leaned in towards you pressing his lips to yours before he scooped you into his arms before stepping into the fountain, even though it was warm ish outside the water of the fountain hadn’t had enough time to truly heat up because the water that lapped at his midcalf almost had him feeling bad for what he did next. Which was dropping you into the freezing cold water, keeping you upright by his hold on your shoulders before you were able to ground yourself on the floor of the fountain. With water sprouting up from the top and cascading down 4 smaller tiers reminiscent of bird baths, getting larger and larger in radius as they went down, cold water nipped at your skin. “Agh!” You shrieked, “It’s freezing!” “Calm down drama queen!” James snorted, “Little cold water never hurt anybody.” “Speak for yourself!” Screaming as James bent down to splash you with water you tried to run away resulting in you falling backwards onto your bum. “You okay baby?” James asked nervously bending down next to you, surveying your near naked body for any cuts or bruises. Your response came as you looped your arms around his neck and pulled him down, submerging the entirety of his body in the chilly water. He quickly pulled you down with him so that your head was submerged, your hair billowing out around you in the water. When you pulled back up to the surface your wet hair was plastered to your face. And though you were cold, wet, and maybe a little banged up your heart was aflame, this had been exactly what you needed, to run around like a little kid and lose yourself, if only for a little while. Glancing back down your jaw dropped, the light coming from the fountain walls made the shadows of the water reflect on James’ dark skin making him look even more beautiful, like something out of a book. He took your temporary lapse as an opportunity to flip you around so that he was on top of you, he thought you were always stunning but something about you beneath him made you shine like nothing else he’d ever seen. Taking good care to make sure your head didn’t bump against the fountain, and that your head was above water, he trailed kisses from your temple to your jaw. When he reached your chin the second freight train of the night hit him head on and he stuck out his tongue licking from the point of your chin, up your lips, the bridge of your nose, and up your forehead until he reached your hair line where he left one more gentle kiss. “James Potter!” You shrieked, a giggling mess, “What the hell?” He lifted himself off you so he could once again scoop you into his arms, “Come on my little water nymph, let’s get you dry, don’t need you getting sick on me.” “Think you should’ve thought about that before you dunked me into the fountain in nothing but my bra and shorts.” You retaliated to which he only rolled his eyes, before shaking his head like a wet dog. “I swear to God Potter, you’re a Golden Retriever.” “Hmh?” He asked, stepping out of the fountain. “Playful, loyal, energetic, smart.” You explained, planting a kiss on his nose. “Shaking off to dry like a fucking dog.” “You love me.” He grinned, like the thought was just now hitting him, like you hadn’t said it already multiple times that night. “That I do Potter.” You agreed as he set you down on the bench where he had laid his jacket, taking care to slip your arms into it one at a time he pulled it close to your body to keep you warm before coming up behind you, tipping your head back so he could wring the excess water out of it, taking this as an opportunity to kiss the hollow of your throat to which you hummed. Upon slipping on his previously discarded pants and shirt, an endeavor you watched very closely, not wanting to miss a second of how his muscles shifted underneath his smooth, taut skin, he sat down next to you. “It’s a beautiful night.” “That it is.” You agreed. The two of you sat there for a moment before James carefully stood up, “Where are you going Jamie? Too tired now, m’done playing.” “I know angel, come on, not gonna play, just get more comfortable.” He soothed, taking you by the hand and walking you over to a set of fairly new monkey bars. Picking you up from the bottom of your thighs he pushed you up and above his shoulders to sit on top of the monkey bars and you were reminded why it sometimes came in handy to be dating the captain of the football team. Swinging up next to you on the monkey bars he slid his arm around your shoulders, both of your legs meeting the edge of the cold metal at the bend of your knees, your bodies there down hanging off leaving the both of you on your backs staring up at the unusually starry night sky. “There’s Orion.” You lifted your arm to point out the constellation, “ Surprised we can see so many.” You marvelled. “It is rather pretty.” “‘Rather pretty’?” You gasped exasperated with the boy next to you, “It’s not just ‘rather pretty’, it's gorgeous!” You corrected with a huff, turning your visage back up towards the heavens. “Eh,” He shrugged, “I’ve seen better.” “I swear to God, James Fleamont Potter if you say ‘You’re prettier than any constellation’ I’m going to push you off these monkey bars.” A chuckle pushed its way past his lips as he brushed his lips along the part of your hair, “You know me too well don’t you (L/N).” “Yeah, I’ve got your number Mister.” James pulled out his phone to check the time, “Hey baby, it’s midnight.” He whispered in your ear, turning his phone screen so you could read the time. “Happy Saturday my darling boy.” “Happy Saturday Princess, let’s get you home.”
Note: I know in my initial ask on @/randomoutsiders you guys went home and more fluff ensued. Maybe a part two?

When Daisy got out of bed on Friday she was feeling a lot better than she had been at the start of the week. Her Christmas presents had really cheered her up even if her friends hadn’t. Though she hadn’t seen the boys, Lily or Alice she had managed to spend an evening with Marlene whose new beau had decided to enrol in gobstones club much to her annoyance. They had spent the evening listening to Daisy’s new albums and talking about her friends' new romance. It was nice for Daisy. Another escape out of the feelings that had been overwhelming when alone.
‘Have we got an apparition lesson today?’ Daisy asked with a yawn as she slipped on her socks one at a time.  ‘Yeah after lunch,’ Lily said, ‘haven’t you been revising?’  ‘What’s to revise?’ Daisy said.  ‘It’s a very important skill,’ Lily chastised.  ‘You disappear in one place you reappear in another and try not to get cut in half in the meantime,’ Daisy said as she slipped on her shoes. As she bent down her ring slipped from her finger and onto the stone floor with a metallic tinkle. Lily looked up and watched as her sister picked up the gold band and forced it back onto her slim finger.  ‘You opened your presents,’ Lily said. It wasn’t accusatory but it wasn’t a statement either. The redhead watched as her sister's large green eyes, so like her own, landed on her freckled face.  ‘Yeah…’ Daisy said dropping her gaze, ‘I found them the other day..figured it was time for opening them.’ ‘Are you okay?’ Lily said, as Daisy looked at her sister once more she could see the fear in her twin’s eyes. Evidently, the fear that her sister was going to break down at any moment was still going strong in Lily. ‘Yeah,’ Daisy lied reiterating with more force as her sister's stare turned sceptical, ‘yes Lily I’m fine. Besides it wasnt as if it was a horrible thing to find, actually, it was kind of nice.’ ‘They’re lovely rings aren't they,’ Lily said her hand going to a chain around her neck, one that Daisy hadn’t noticed her sister had been wearing but now as she looked she could see a thin gold chain with her sister’s matching ring around it.  ‘Why didn’t you?’  ‘It fits,’ Lily said, ‘I just didn't want to upset you if-’ ‘I saw what mum and dad got us,’ Daisy finished. Lily shrugged, ‘I think that’s a good idea. Mine’s a little loose and it keeps slipping off I might put it on my chain.’ ‘Glad I could help,’ Lily said with a smile.
The pair continued to get dressed in comfortable silence. Alice was already down at breakfast with Frank and Marlene had said something about a gobstones meeting. It seemed Pierre was good-looking enough for her to feign interest. Once they were ready the pair made their way downstairs to find Remus and James in the common room chatting quietly though they stopped as soon the girls came towards them.
‘Morning Evanses,’ James said with a smile which overtook Remus’ polite ‘good morning’.  ‘Morning Prongs what’s got you so chipper?’ Daisy asked.  ‘It’s defence club day,’ James said. ‘And?’ Daisy said.  ‘Have you got some big cool spell you want to show off?’ Lily said rolling her eyes.  ‘Me? Show off?’ James scoffed, ‘How dare you, Lily!’ ‘Go on then, why are you all excited?’ Daisy asked. They were walking now, having just ducked out of the portrait hole on their way to breakfast.  ‘You’ll just have to wait and see,’ James winked. As they made their way to the great hall he broke into a tale about a jinx he had been learning for the club but had yet to perfect as it somehow kept causing his target (Peter) to end up with duck feet.
‘I’ve always thought he had sort of a waddle to his gait,’ Remus chuckled as the four sat down next to Alice and Frank who were going over Auror Exam practice questions but said hello nevertheless.  ‘No he’s definitely rat-like,’ Daisy said, ‘anyway where is the waddled one? Or Sirius for that matter?’  ‘Um,’ James said faltering as he looked at Remus and though it was only for a second Daisy caught it, ‘gobstones meeting.’ ‘And Sirius?’ Daisy said knowing that they weren’t technically lying but it would only be Peter who was there.  ‘He didn’t say,’ Remus shrugged as he poured milk into his cup of tea. Daisy nodded as if she wasn’t curious and started pouring herself some orange juice as her mind pondered where he was.
She had no idea what was going on between them he constantly blew hot and cold. That was why she liked Michael. Though he wasn't Sirius he was a very nice guy and he’d been upfront about liking her. He’d even asked if she wanted to go to Hogsmede together though she had declined. Secretly she was hoping Sirius might say something about her and Michael but he’d disappeared so quickly she doubted he’d even noticed them flirting. See, hot and cold.
Everyone seemed to be convinced they were meant to be but just when she thought he might like her, he’d change tact and she’d be more at a loss than ever. It didn’t help that whenever she did feel something it hurt so much she never wanted to feel anything again. That was one of the good things about Michael. She only felt good things around him. Happy things. And it was nice to be in the company of someone who didn’t constantly worry that she was going to crumble into a million pieces.
But happy feelings just weren't the same. They were nice but they weren't really, well, much of anything. When she thought of Sirius she thought of warmth. How she felt safe whenever he was near her. Comfortable in herself. Those feelings would appear whenever he looked at her but then her mind would wander to things that made her chest ache. Him leaving her, being with other girls or worse, losing him like she had her mum and dad. Once that happened it was hard to get back to the warm content feeling of before.
Maybe it was better that he was avoiding her. At least this way she didn't have to dwell on that aching feeling. As the other three at the table chattered away Daisy dutifully shovelled her breakfast in though she didn't really listen to what they were saying. When she was done she followed Lily to their first lesson of the day, double potions. Though the potion today was complex and drawn out Daisy didn’t have to do much of anything as they were required to work in pairs. Lily did all the heavy lifting with Daisy having to run to the store cupboard here and there. Though she was happy to take a back seat it did mean that her mind drifted and she thought about Sirius some more meaning that the ache in her chest refused to disappear well into mid-morning. Luckily her next two lessons were ones she had to put her mind to, defence against the dark arts and transfiguration. If anyone was going to let her slack off it wasn't going to be Professor McGonagall and so Daisy had to engage throughout all of her fourth lesson of the day. Finally, the bell rang and she was freed for Lunch. Or so she thought as she crammed her belongings into her book bag she heard Professor McGonagall’s nasal Scottish voice call her name. Bidding her friends goodbye she watched as they left the class whilst she turned and walked to the front of the room where her teacher was waiting.
‘Something wrong Professor?’ Daisy said as the last few stragglers left the class.  ‘No, well not exactly,’ Professor McGonagall said as she put a piece of parchment down on the desk in front of them both. Written on the top of the piece of parchment was an A- Acceptable. ‘Is that-’  ‘Last week’s homework assignment. And whilst this is an okay grade and still a pass this is not the level of work I’ve come to expect from you. You’re far more capable than this. Am I still to believe you want to go into healing?’  ‘Yes Professor,’ Daisy said though she wasnt sure what she wanted any longer.  ‘Then you’re going to need to improve your grades in this class as well as others. From what I’ve heard from other teachers your grades are slipping there as well and why I know why I can’t help but worry. You’re better than this.’ ‘I know professor it’s just been a bit hard is all,’ Daisy said.  ‘I understand.  But I just can't stand by and not mention it. You deserve to make yourself proud…your parents too,’ Professor McGonagall said. Daisy nodded feeling tears sting her eyes as they did all too often these days. After a brief smile, McGonagall dismissed her student who fled from the room as quick as her legs could carry her. She was down three flights of stairs before she even looked up from her feet the tears finally subsiding and her vision becoming clear.
And as she looked up she spotted a familiar sight at the end of the corridor. Sirius. He was standing leaning against the wall one foot resting against it his arms crossed across his chest. He was chuckling away, his eyes glinting in the sunlight that was just barely coming in through the hallway window. And in front of him. Penny Fulton. She stood laughing at something he had just said her hand resting on his folded arms as if propping herself up to stop herself from keeling over with laughter. Daisy’s aching feeling came back once more. He didn’t spot her and so she decided not to reveal herself and instead walked the long way round to the dining hall. Sirius never joined them for lunch.
Daisy was in a grim mood for the rest of the day so much so she debated whether or not to duck out of the defence club. But the barrage of questions she would get from Lily was not what she wanted so she had no choice. After dinner, Lily and Daisy congregated in the entrance hall where they met Alice and Frank. Just as the five turned to leave they heard a call from behind them and found James, Peter and Remus trying to catch up with them.
‘Hang on,’ James said, ‘wait for us!’  ‘Alright James,’ Frank said with a chuckle, ‘I thought you said going in small groups was more inconspicuous.’ ‘Well, what’s the damage now Dumbledore knows?’ James smiled. Daisy’s eyes scanned the group looking for that familiar set of hazel eyes but they weren't there. As they climbed up to the attic, they met Marlene and Pierre en route. All of them chattered in hushed whispers about how excited they were to resume the club. When they got to the landing outside the attic Sirius was already there as well as Penelope Fulton. Daisy’s stomach did a small flip flop.  ‘What’s Penny doing here?’ Marlene asked.  ‘She asked if she can join,’ Sirius said purposefully not looking at Daisy, ‘I said she could.’ ‘And if I like it I could bring my brother and friend along. If that’s okay of course,’ Penny said.  ‘Course it is,’ Frank said with a smile though Daisy didn’t miss the small dig in the ribs Alice gave him, blocked from view by Peter and Lily in front of them.  ‘Great,’ Penelope said.  ‘Yeah well, what are you doing outside?’ Lily said impatiently.  ‘Ah, well,’ Sirius said before James took over. He stood in front of the group which had just been joined by the other members though they were forced to linger on the steps as he spoke.  ‘Well, the thing is. After we cleared out the space the boy and I did some thinking. So, this week we decided to do a little…decorating,’ James said.  ‘Oh good god, what have you done?!’ Lily said panicked.  ‘Nothing bad,’ James said, ‘well, I hope it’s not bad.’ ‘I’d say it’s flipping brilliant!’ Remus said.  ‘Well, how about you don’t keep them waiting eh?’ Sirius said. James looked at his friend and then nodded before he walked forward and opened the attic door.
People filed into the room and immediately issued an array of ‘ooh’s’ and ‘ahs’. The room was transformed. The bulk of it was empty with the floor made up of soft crash mats and cushions stacked to one side. Where the tables had been was a couple of bookshelves and next to them trunks with various labels no doubt stowing away what they couldn't get rid of. And in the back of the room was what looked like a common room. There were a couple of desks with several chairs around and across from them three couches which formed sort of its own section. There was a record player in the corner currently playing some soft rock on low. And besides the couch was a table with jugs and plates of sandwiches arranged neatly. Posters littered the wall from diagrams of defensive spells to muggle bands. It was perfect.
‘Guys this is…’ Lily said trailing off before she could finish. ‘This is amazing!’ Alice squealed.  ‘Did you boys do all this?’ Terry Bones said.  ‘Well it was a team effort,’ James said.  ‘It’s cool,’ Marlene said.  ‘Thanks,’ the boys said as people looked around. Daisy stood still looking around when she felt a presence beside her it was Sirius. He smiled at her and she reciprocated.  ‘So,’ she said, ‘this is what you’ve been up to all week?’  ‘Yeah…James wanted to keep it a surprise so.’ Sirius started. ‘You lied to me,’ Daisy finished.  ‘Dais it wasnt a lie,’ Sirius said.  ‘No, you just avoided me instead,’ Daisy said. ‘We were up here day and night-’ ‘When you weren't dating Penny of course?’ Daisy asked quietly. Sirius tried to speak but her accusation had come out of the blue and he was tripping over his words and didn't manage to reply before Daisy said, ‘thought so.’
And with that, she disappeared into the throng of people. He couldn't speak to her after that. She kept at least three people away at all times and seeing as it was Penelope’s first meeting she needed more information than the rest. Lily asked Sirius to catch her up on the basics of why the group recapped over where they were up to and then about what they wanted to learn. Remus produced a list as long as his arm as did Lily. Alice and Frank asked for some Auror spells that he had to practice which sent a shiver of excitement around the room. Even Peter had a couple of suggestions.
They went over the suggestions and made a list of what they wanted to cover which was pinned up next to the posters. Then they recapped a couple of jinxes which Penny was allowed to join in on. Eventually, yawns started becoming more frequent around the room and everyone was stuffed on the cakes the elves had provided so they decided it was time to pack up. Alice and Frank left first followed by Marlene and Pierre.
‘Tonight’s been awesome,’ Rudy Scrimgeour said as he and his friends left. ‘I’m gonna see if some of the girls want to come if that’s okay?’ Eleanor Vane said. ‘Absolutely!’ Lily said.  ‘The more the merrier,’ James echoed. He and Lily were tidying away the books and rubbish that had been left by everyone. Remus and Daisy were chatting with Peter about his gobstones tournament whilst Sirius was talking to Penelope by the door. Once they had tidied up everyone got up and headed for the door. Penelope had left now and they met with Sirius who was still loitering there. Once out on the landing Daisy started quickly down the stairs hoping to avoid Sirius. Remus and Peter provided a buffer between them whilst Lily and James hung at the back. By the time they got to the common room, they realised that Lily and James were nowhere to be seen.
‘Where are they?’ Remus said turning around.  ‘I don’t know,’ Sirius said looking around, ‘I thought the sound of fawning had lessened.’ ‘Har har,’ Daisy said snarkily. Before Sirius could retort the pair appeared through the portrait hole. Lily looked beet red whilst James came and walked in a sort of daze seemingly on another planet.  ‘Where have you been?’ Peter said.  ‘Nowhere,’ Lily said, 'we were just talking. Night all.’   ‘Night,’ the boys called as Lily dashed up the stairs and out of sight at record speed. ‘What the hell have you done?’ Daisy asked looking at James who still seemed out of it.  ‘Nothing,’ James said before he winced as the back of Daisy’s hand hit his bicep, ‘honestly! We were just talking and well…I asked her out.’ ‘When don’t you?’ Sirius snorted. ‘Well, she sort of said yes,’ James said.  ‘What?!’ came the reply from all. ‘Wait you’re going out?’ Remus said, ‘when?’  ‘Next week. We’re allowed to Hogsmede for Burns Night remember,’ James said.  ‘Well, I can’t believe it. Well done mate,’ Peter said.  ‘Yeah, I’m happy for you,’ Sirius said.  ‘Me too,’ Remus agreed. Soon all eyes fell on Daisy. She wanted to congratulate them. She knew how long James had liked her sister and she knew that despite protests Lily liked him too.
‘Well, Dais? Do I get your blessing?’ James said. ‘Of course,’ she said though the happiness in her voice didn’t quite sound right, ‘anyway I’ve gotta get to bed.’ ‘Oh? I thought we could-’ James started but she didn’t wait.  ‘Night,’ she said and before anyone could say anything she raced up the stairs and into her dormitory. Alice and Marlene weren't back when she got inside and from what she could hear Lily was having a shower. Daisy stripped out of her clothes and donned her pyjamas and climbed into bed. As she lay there her mind raced about everything. Her feelings for Sirius hadn't changed but had now become more complicated now she could see Penny was in the picture longer than she had thought. Not only that now Lily was going to be shacked up she felt her loneliness creep in even further. What was she going to do?

Mr. Perfectly Fine
Tumblr media
SUMMARY: Y/n was in love with James, she would of stayed with him forever. However it wasn't meant to be and after they break up, Y/n is broken while James is perfectly fine.  (Based off Taylor Swift's song, Mr. Perfectly Fine.)
This is a part of @gcdric’s Taylor Swift writing challenge. Yes I wrote this in a day because I either have inspiration, or I don’t. I might have to ask to do another fic after this lol.
REQUEST: This was originally requested by @montsepliego, who wanted a fic based  off a single line, but I really wanted to adapt it to the whole song.
Then I saw gcdric was doing a writing challenge, so i thought I’d enter with this. I’ve actually never done a writing challenge before, but this was actually really fun! Thank you for letting me participate!

WARNINGS: angst...not a lot of dialogue if that matters.

James Potter.
He was gorgeous. Y/n had often wondered how she got so lucky to be dating someone so genuinely nice and caring, someone who would do anything for her and love her. That’s what he had told her at least, he told her he was there to stay, that he’d never leave.
He’d joked that he was lucky to not have to wait his whole life to meet her and on nights she was feeling insecure about their relationship, James had told her he’d be by her side forever. To everyone else, they seemed to be hopelessly in love, just two teenagers who looked to be the type of couple who in ten years at a school reunion, would still be together, talking about their happy suburban life.
But that was then, and this was now, and now it was far from that.
The two had broken up, and to say people were shocked was an understatement. James had been acting differently after the summer holidays, and Y/n and everyone who knew him noticed. Eventually, two weeks into seventh year, James had ended their relationship suddenly and without explanation.
He’d changed his mind about her and Y/n was bitterly reminded of all her past relationships. James had called her past partners stupid for letting her go, yet now, he had done exactly the same thing. How could she have been so stupid to think he’d be any different?
Y/n thought she’d be with him forever and then he’d changed his mind, decided she wasn’t what he wanted. How was she supposed to move on from that? How could he move on from that?
But he did move on from her, quickly to say the least. While she was being dragged out of bed by her roommates, he was back to his usual self, pulling pranks and flirting with one Miss Lily Evans.
To the rest of the school, it seemed the break up was mutual, because that's what James told them. Y/n had heard him be asked about her in the Great hall and somehow, he always managed to change the subject, turning everyone's attention to him. Explaining how he was perfectly fine. Had he forgotten about her?
Had he forgotten that they spent months together? Had he forgotten that he’d promised to never leave her and reassured her she was the ‘only girl’ for him? Had he also forgotten that he just broke up with her without explanation after all that? That he’d apologised lamely the next week when her friends mentioned how upset she was?
He didn’t have to watch her cry that night he broke it off, or watch her tear up every time something reminded her of him. But her friends did.
And her friends had to be the ones to tell her about the news of James’ new relationship barely weeks after they’d parted ways. Y/n couldn’t blame Lily, she could never blame Lily because Lily was kind and caring and Y/n understood why James and everyone else liked her.
Eventually, Y/n had to move on and she did, the sadness turned to anger and the anger turned into nothing. Because James Potter had moved on, so why shouldn’t she? He had forgotten her name, so why shouldn’t she forget his?
But she supposed it was a shame that he’d left her, because eventually Lily would realise that he wasn't what everyone thought, and something would shift in their relationship. By then, James might miss her, but he’d be too late because Y/n was once happy to stay with him, to maybe start a family with him. But now, she knew how he could be and didn’t want to be anywhere near that, yes, she was still healing from months of love and affection being ripped away from her, but she knew she’d be okay.
One day, she’d be perfectly fine as well.

I watched The Other Woman the other day and now my brain is making me sad with a modern AU James cheating on Regulus and Regulus finds out and blames himself a lot because James is James and adhkj. And Regulus realises his whole life is devoured by James, his friends are James' friends and he works at James' dad's company and he's raising Harry and Neville even tho he's always been afraid to have children and the only person he can talk to about all this is his husband's lover. he's afraid to tell Sirius because sirius picked james over him once already and regulus wouldn't be anle to bear it happening again
Lily is a cut-throat lawyer and when she finds out her boyfriend of two months is married she drops him like a hot potato because she's not a homewrecker. Regulus is already pretty wrecked tho and Lily recognises that he's in a difficult situation and offers the listening ear and a comforting shoulder
"Was he your first?" Lily asked. He shook his head. "I used to date my friend Barty at high school." Lily hid a vince in her wine. She couldn't imagine marrying a second boyfriend any more than she could imagine marrying the first. And high school was - so long ago! "It wasn't very good. He was… hurting me." The faint smile on his lips was the most heartbreaking thing. "But at least from him I saw it coming."
anyways regulus recconects with barty (who's still in jail because of the involvement with murdering of neville's parents, it's a whole thing) and evan (who's dying of cancer for some reason wtf brain? But he's also totally up to taking regulus live in if he decides to leave james and that's sweet of them)
neville notices papa is very sad all the time now and makes him a picture at school to cheer him up and that's what convinces Regulus he HAS to address the issue with James. He can't let it affect the children
As like in the movie Lily invites James to her office and she's there as an emotional support friend for Regulus as he lays out the options they came up with: marriage counseling, divorce, some variation of polyamory. Regulus is pretty much too sad and tired to care about himself he just wants what's best for the boys.
Idk why james cheated in the first place but unlike the dick in the movie he doesn't try to lie about it. He knows he fucked up and he's willing to do everything he can to fix that. They do the marriage counseling and on the counselor's reccomendation they both take separate therapy too. They consult a child physiatrist on how to best handle the situation regarding the boys, and have some very difficult conversations with them.
they find out harry is the baby Lily got from a drunk one night stand and gave up for adoption because she didn't want to be a mother and couldn't find the father
sirius finds out/is told and is super upset on Regulus' behalf probably punches james too and there's a lot of crying on everyone's part
regulus takes more time for himself to feel like his own person again. The first friend he'd made in years was his husband secret lover how pathetic is that? So he starts going out more like he joins craft classes n stuff to meet new people, his mental health gets loads better (he's been a right mess because all the old insecurities and trauma from his childhood reared their ugly heads)
idk if it ends with all three of them going separate romantic wasy or if it ends up with jegulus jily regulily or jegulily, and I think it should stay open ended

I have this multichap WIP in the works for ages and now thanks to @sunshine-marauders' prompt ("Insecure James") I finally got around posting the first day!
Read on AO3 or below:
____________
Not a bad day
Chapter 1 - Not a bad game day
The moment the portrait closed and all sounds of the party vanished, James let the smile slip out of his face and his hands grabbed his hair nervously, fighting back a will to just tear them away.
Ten points.
In his first match as Quidditch captain, Gryffindor won by ten points.
It had never happened before in all twelve matches James had played; James remembered easy winnings, even in that match last year that he had to play as Seeker when Godfrey had broken his arm the night before the match, but back then they had a decent captain. Or two, because the Prewett twins were co-captains and they knew how to be a captain.
He’d thought he had done everything right. He had trained with the other chasers, making sure they worked as a team; he’d instructed the keeper in how to detect and avoid any tricks, sharing with him even James' secret manoeuvres. He’d practised with the two beaters, spent afternoon days with them with himself as their target and James had been to the Hospital Wing with two broken ribs, but he was certain the beaters could hit any target. And James had spent even more hours with the new seeker, developing all skills that were already there and making sure she was confident enough.
And then everything had crumbled in the first ten minutes of the match.
James had called for two time-outs and had talked to his team, bestowed upon them his best confident charm, but nothing seemed to work; and despite his words, he was equally lost. He didn’t know if he should try to redirect his team or make sure they had enough goals to not matter if they lost. If he wasn’t the captain, he would be scoring as many as possible — but everyone was looking at him in search of an answer he didn't have and the narrator was gladly commenting about every mistake Gryffindor was making and…
And a miracle had happened when Vance had caught the snitch, but James knew it had been more an accident than actual talent.
He hadn’t said anything about it though. His team — his carefully chosen and well-trained players — knew the match had been horrible and James didn’t have the spirit to let them down even more. So he had done his captain duty: he had praised everyone for whatever he could (‘That pass was amazing, Jones. You almost hit that bludger perfectly, Merryweather. Spectacular diversion of that bludger, Vance), and he had congratulated them for the victory.
None of the Gryffindors seemed to think anything was amiss. The victory party was raging when the team arrived — loud music and bottles of butterbeer all around. Sirius was drinking something that definitely wasn’t butterbeer and James had been tempted to lose himself too, but he had passed.
He had expected to drink to celebrate, not to drown away his misery.
After a while, he had just risen and left the Common Room quietly. With luck, his friends would just think he had left to celebrate with someone or had fallen drunk behind some couch.
The halls were quiet and empty, which James considered a small blessing. He wasn’t in the mood to deal with any joke about his performance as captain or even worse, any compliment about it.
He just wanted to be left alone to brood, really, and to think how everything had gone so wrong.
He found an empty classroom to sit in, watching the sun shining over the surface of the lake. The good thing was that the game lasted only one hour — the bad side of it meant it was still early and the party would last until nightfall. He wondered if he could just hide there all day — probably not, James thought as his stomach rumbled. He just wanted that horrible miserable day to end.
James lasted another thirty minutes until he agreed that he needed something to eat. The only question was if he would rather risk going to the kitchen or back to the Common Room — if people started clapping his back again, James was sure he would just throw up. What he needed, really, was to go to Professor McGonagall and return the captain badge so she could pin it on anyone else — and then he would be free to do what he was good at, that was scoring goals without worries about what everyone else was doing.
The Common Room, James decided. From there he could just slip back to his bed and then pretend he was too drunk and just try to sleep. Anything to end that day, to pretend it had never happened at all.
He left the classroom absently, and he was closing the door when he heard a voice that made him jump.
‘Potter?’
His hand went to his hair, in a gesture that was more reflex than anything. There were a lot of reflexes that James couldn’t help whenever he heard her voice — such as that redness that came to his neck or the way his heart beat faster whenever Lily Evans was around.
Mostly the last one.
And especially when he turned around and his eyes found Lily Evans standing in the middle of the hall, watching him leaving the classroom. She was still dressed in Gryffindor colours: wearing the uniform lazily, the tie hanging undone around her neck over two open buttons of her shirt; her face was painted with two lines of red and gold in each cheek, and her red hair was combed in two braids that were lined with golden flecks. He felt he could stay there watching her forever.
Good Godric, she was beautiful.
James refrained from sighing.
‘Hi, Evans,' he said, and his voice did that melodious thing that always happened when he was near her.
James really wished he could talk to Lily Evans as if he was a normal human being, but his body was always full of reactions when it came to her, no matter how much he tried to control them.
He was trying to forget her after all. Evans had already made it clear that she wasn’t interested in him — which was becoming more evident now as she watched him with a sudden suspicious expression, her eyes narrowing.
‘What are you doing?’
‘Going back to the Common Room?’ he answered, feeling a little unsure. There was something about Evans that always made him feel guilty as if she could find the worst faults in him.
Even when he wasn’t doing anything wrong such as now.
‘You left the party,' mumbled Evans, still sounding accusing as if he had no right to leave in the first place.
‘So did you,' James smirked, which he knew wouldn’t work with Evans but he had to try anyway. ‘What are you doing, Evans?’
‘Patrolling,' she answered easily, pointing to the prefect badge pinned on her robe, in the same place James had his captain badge pinned. ‘Which is why I get to ask what you were doing alone in an empty room — oh.' Evans looked away from him, an annoyed expression crossing her face. ‘You weren’t alone.'
‘What?’
‘No one is supposed to enter classrooms without permission, you know that, Potter,’ reprimanded Evans, ignoring him. ‘I will have to report it to Professor McGonagall.'
‘Ah, come on,' James complained, the unfairness of it making him grimace. ‘I can’t even brood alone without getting detention? Really?’
Evans blinked.
‘Alone? I thought — you left the party, and Vance too and — brooding?’ She paused, watching him with concern now, which James realized was even worse. On top of all his failures, he also didn’t need Evans’ pity. ‘What happened, Potter?’
‘Nothing.'
‘You look like someone stole the last piece of chocolate tart that you always pick up first at dinner — really, what’s up? Shouldn’t you be celebrating your victory?’
‘Just let go, Evans,' he asked, turning away from her and walking down the hall. He could hear her rushed steps after him.
‘Potter —'
‘I am a crappy captain, is that what you wanted to hear?’ he cried, turning around to face Evans. He hadn’t noticed how close she was, but for once James didn’t let this thought distract him. ‘I had one job that was to keep the team working and I screwed it up.'
‘Butt —’ Evans looked really confused. ‘But Gryffindor won.'
‘By ten points. We needed a good margin of points to not depend on the result of other games and now we have to double our work —’
‘You still won,' she insisted, watching him closely and there was no pity or annoyance on her face now. ‘Winning by ten points is better than losing by ten and, be honest, even if you had won by a thousand points, would it have made a difference?’
‘What do you mean?’
‘A victory by a giant margin — would you have relaxed your efforts with the team? Would you stop working so hard with Matt and Lucy? Or stop all those night meetings with Emmeline?’
James blinked slowly, not understanding what Evans meant by that. Of course he would keep trying to improve his team.
‘No.'
‘And if Gryffindor could lose by three hundred points and still win the Quidditch Cup — would you want the team to play poorly?’
‘No, of course not!’
‘So, Potter.' Evans crossed her arms like she had done a thousand times before at him but James didn’t think she was exasperated this time. ‘This one match doesn’t change anything. You still have work to do with your team.'
James shifted the weight from one foot to another, thinking. Evans was still watching him, her green eyes giving him the impression that she could see every thought unfolding in his mind; she didn’t look surprised when he nodded.
‘I guess the game wasn’t so bad. I mean, there is room for improvement, but now I saw everyone’s weakest points and I can work with that.'
‘Exactly, captain,' Evans said, and James dared to think there was a teasing note in her voice, one that he’d heard her sharing with others but never with him.
He fought very hard his desire to grin.
‘Ready to go back to the party?' she asked.
'Yeah. And you?'
He tried not to sound too hopeful. Considering Evans didn't look repulsed by his question, James thought he had been successful.
'It was a little boring,' Evans said, shrugging. 'I don't know, I expected it to be more fun.'
'It's because I wasn't there,' James teased, but this seemed the wrong thing to say. Evans took a step back, frowning; panic flooded him and he added hurriedly: 'I mean, who left Sirius in charge of the music? He grew up with classical music.'
Her expression softened.
'Maybe you could tap the radio to Muggle stations? Like you did last year?'
James fought to keep a neutral face. She had noticed he was the one that did it, then? He'd thought Evans was too mad at him back then — during all that party, James had tried to draw her attention, certain that him leading Gryffindor to the victory would make Evans want to go out with him, but she had refused to even glance in his direction.
But she had noticed his charm.
'I could,' he replied slowly. 'It is much better to dance.'
'Yeah,' she agreed and then Evans smiled at him.
She smiled. At him. On purpose. That warm glorious smile that had first attracted him years ago, long before he knew what it meant.
His heart was doing full acrobatics dancing steps inside him now.
'Are you going back too?' he asked, desperately willing himself to look normal, though his hand wanted very much to comb his hair — or touch her braids, he wasn't sure.
Evans bit her lip, looking down the corridor that led to the Astronomy Tower.
'It's Saturday,' James added as charmingly as he could, his voice again melodious and nice. 'Do you really need to be patrolling today?'
'Actually… no, I wasn't scheduled. It's just —'
'The party was lame, I know.' She looked back at him; it was difficult to concentrate under her gaze, but James had to try. 'But still better than patrolling empty halls, I’d say.
He tried that puppy look he always saw Remus using when he wanted something; at least it should be more efficient than his confident gaze that Evans never seemed to find amusing. But she took one look at his face and she averted her eyes quickly, looking suddenly flustered.
'Well, it wasn't my schedule anyway,' she agreed, walking next to him in the direction of the Gryffindor Tower. 'And I could use a drink.'
'Sirius' version or the normal butterbeer?'
'What's in his version?' Evans asked, and James could hear the amusement in her voice as if she was already predicting his answer.
'Probably not butter, only beer — and worse.'
She let out a giggle. James pretended the sound did not fill his heart with hope and joy.
'I will stay out of his version then. I would like to remember this day tomorrow.'
James thought of sharing a smile and a decent conversation with Evans — she had noticed he always saved a chocolate tart for himself? Or that he had charmed the radio to play Muggle songs? And she was actually going back to the party because he had asked? — and decided he would like to remember that day too. It had not been that bad.
