Covid-19.

The year is 2020 and it is currently 5:07 AM on the 13th day in December. The year has been extremely chaotic with Covid-19. People were needing to isolate themselves for14 days, states, countries even having national lockdowns. The world we live in today is not one that I ever imagined to see or worse... live in. Although the world right now is pretty bananas, we are alive in the now and therefore, we make the best of it.

The Coronavirus was first introduced at the end of 2019. Over a year later, a year of safely caring for my son, 1 year old, Alexander, he tested positive for Coronavirus AND Influenza A. He was diagnosed with Covid-19 on December, 9, 2020. It was literally the scariest call I have received from a doctors office. Nobody wants to hear your child have Coronavirus. But Alexander did. This was no longer a fight of prevention. It was a battle of survival. I am a first time mother, and I had no idea what was to come. I quite literally was freaking the fuck out.

It was a very long day. Alex’s father and aunt both tested positive as well, and my family was negative, although I believe was mother was a false negative, because she is really really sick. My father in New York got the virus as well. Cancer survivor and all, he beat this thing. The scariest part for me was that Alex was only 1. He was no longer in newborn diapers, but he was still a baby. My sweet, precious baby.

The first two days, the 9th - 10th, I about almost lost my patience. It was hard. Alex had this insane fever, and you could just tell he was miserable and sad. I felt every ounce of sorrow in him. I wanted to make him feel better, but with some viruses, we are almost entirely helpless. He was prescribed two medications, and was taking Tylenol for fever, as he is allergic to Motrin... I believe. I can almost put money on it, therefore, I cannot risk it until it is accurately tested, which he must wait until he is 2 to do. 

Fast forward to what is technically yesterday now, the 12th, and Alex had developed a SERIOUSLY crazy diaper rash, but not the usual. It turns out that one of the medications Tamiflu (Oseltamivir Phosphate), was giving him a severe bad diaper rash, like extremely severe. I felt so bad as a mother you can only do so much. I tried all sorts of creams and it just seemed to be getting worse. I made a telemedicine doctor’s appt with his doctor, and it turns out that he is experiencing a bad side effect reaction to this medication and I was advised to stop giving it to him and that it will take approximately 3-4 days for it to leave his system... I hope as soon as possible.

So... it seems to me like this little boy is going to give me a run for my money growing up. I am such a worrywart and this just gives me anxiety thinking about it. I just want to be the best mom I can be for him. I have been stabbed a few times with words regarding myself as a mother, and I know they aren’t true but now every action, every step I make, I wonder and think how others are judging me. This is one of the issues that I need to work on as an individual and it is not allowing others and how they view me cloud my own judgement of myself and how I see me. Self-love is so important for me right now. I only hope to love myself one day again. I want to be super mom for my son.. he deserves the world. I brought him into this world. I chose to have him. He deserves nothing but happiness and joy in his life.

Today is now Day 4 of quarantine for 14 days... Luckily that ends December 23rd!... I hope. I feel like I have been here for years in my house. LMFAO. I guess because i have never truly spent so much time at home. i have gotten a lot of things done and I even accomplished getting Alex’s room organized. That is the one thing I am extremely proud of. It was something I was not able to do since Alex’s father left, however, I did it. I FINALLY DID IT! 

I know that means that my heart is healing and day by day I am moving one step closer to being the woman I want to be and love and share with my beautiful baby boy.

This time last year was terrifying; Brix was in quarantine at CHOC’s oncology ward, with RSV and Influenza A induced seizures, unable to properly breathe and overall struggling. We felt to scared and so helpless for our little guy.
