also on the topic of Wings of Fire, I don’t know if this is an unpopular opinion but (major wings of fire spoilers under the cut)
I will always hate that Jerboa III made it so nobody can use animus magic now
#It annoys me like these characters JUST had while arcs about it and. Poof#And there's an obvious work around too#It only took away magic from current animi if you look at the phrasing#Which means that if a dragonet is hatched with the animus gene presenting they'll just. Have magic#In my headcanon sphere floating a few miles above canon it just didn't happen#I'm sure it was written like that for a reason but I can't remeber what#I mean that describes my own writing too half the time so. Such is life#wof#reblog

You know, with how Fierceteeth and Starflight tend to sleep-talk in stressful situations (Starflight in The Dark Secret and Fierceteeth in The Brightest Night, unless she woke up and fell asleep immediately after yelling at Strongwings), wouldn't it be neat for Farsight to also talk in her sleep? It contributes very little to their characters, but I'd find it funny if they just happened to be a family of sleep-yammerers.
AAAAAAH I LOVE THIS SM THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. OBSESSED. HELL YES THEY'RE A FAMILY OF SLEEP YAMMERERS. I love thinking of them as a family of anything honestly. I just love thinking of them as family.
I actually have a scene in my fic where Farsight has a nightmare and talks in her sleep, but I did not even think of the fact that Starflight and Fierceteeth are also sleep talkers. Thank you for making that connection. Do you mind if I shout out your tumblr in the notes of that chapter?
Anyway thank you for the ask as always I love them soooo much ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY'RE AS FANTASTIC AS THIS ONE.

WoF Arc 4 Wishlist:
Since we’re getting arc 4 next year, I thought I would write out some things that I would like to see in there! I thought it could be fun to come back to this post and cross some of them off as the new books come out. ANYWAY.
MudWing POV ALREADY CONFIRMED! YAY!
This one definitely isn’t going to happen, but I would like less humans.
Peril and Sky interactions!!
Chameleon OR Mastermind development. What can I say, I love an evil dad.
Somebody is nice to Fatespeaker. Why are they all so fucking mean to her all the time. Someone be nice to her PLEASE.
Furthermore, a little more development for Fatespeaker or Riptide like we’ve gotten for Deathbringer and Peril. The Arc 1 love interests were pretty underdeveloped but Tui does an okay job of sprucing them up retroactively, so. Yeah.
NO SUNNY ROMANCE. PLEASE NO SUNNY ROMANCE PLS PLS PLS. DON’T DO THAT TO HER.
Canon nb dragon character (actually appears on page, not just mentioned like arc 3) pls!
I’d like to know Marsh, Pheasant, and Reed better! I think we’ll definitely be getting this one with the Umber POV.
Something good happens to Winter. Please he needs a win so bad.
Kinkajou does anything. I miss her.
Shout out to Umber for being gay in the WoF universe before arc 3 normalized it in the canon. Give him a boyfriend as a reward.
Older queen (Coral/Moorhen) representation & plot relevance pls!
NightWing independence
Realistically, I think… maybe 5 or 6 of these things will happen. What do you guys want from arc 4???
#in my HEART#a slightly older version of sunny is like. not a parent but a cool aunt to the theoretical children of the other dod#or to any other child that would be in her proximity#but the VERY SPECIFIC KIND of cool aunt that does not have a spouse nor children of her own#she can be the optimistic confident independent AND aromantic friend slash relative in my dreams#i just pray that the canon love intrest. is close to making sense to her character. and at least a likeable character in their own right#also based what we know about the upcoming book so far it does seem plausible that chameleon could totally show up#maybe even mastermind if hes not in prision#imagine if they're like. in the same location. or even acknowledge eachothers existence. or maybe even speak to eachother!?#if they even breathe in the same direction in this arc i will probably never shut up about it actually

Hi moot! I just read your comments on my fic The Scientists and I'm SO GLAD YOU LIKE IT!!! I know I'm not working with the most popular characacters, but I'm having a ton of fun writing them, so it makes me happy very happy that someone is having a lot of fun reading them! I'm hoping to get a new chapter up tomorrow :)
hell yeah!!!!!! Every time you write about some random obscure character know there is at least one rabid fan of said character (me or someone like me) who will absolutely rejoice the moment they see it
Super excited to see what's next in your story!!
#very excited to see how you approach what has yet to come!!#And how exactly you manage to make it even more soul crushing for her#the endless potential of an obscure character!#I physically reacted to some of the notes you left on my original yaps there. Good shit.

I think Mastermind could fix Chameleon
#fastest reblog in the west#i was the first person to ever ship mastermind x chameleon as far as i know! so whenever they are mentioned together my attention is piqued#and yeah. mastermind would be scientifically invested in chameleon's face to the point of being enamoured and then chameleon#who is not used to be complemented for is physical appearance in his base form AT ALL#has a complete reevaluation of his beliefs regarding himself as a result#also funny post 👍 i simply could not resist the urge to yap under it#i literally have a bracelet based on these two that i wear almost all the time. i am uh. so normal about these two characters trust

If it's interpretations of Farsight that you would like to see, then I can certainly deliver! :D
Even from the little that we see of her in canon Farsight is definitely an interesting character by premise alone. She seems to be very nice, kind, and caring, while stuck on an island that very much is not and has drifted away from those values in its culture as a result. She's the mother of Fierceteeth, who has a polar opposite demeanour, and her other child was taken away as an egg from the prophecy.
From what we get of Secretkeeper's testimony, she's also very forgiving, to the point that SK doesn't worry about Farsight maintaining hurt feelings after she says something cruel (and secretly hypocritical) to her in the Moon Rising prologue. My interpretation of this is that she's a people pleaser, to some degree, even if it hurts her. It would make sense given her circumstances: everyone is suffering, so she came to the conclusion to try to minimise the suffering of others. The state of affairs has also brought out a cruelty in some, and so trying to be as polite and nice as possible is also a possible response to avoid that.
It's possible to infer a bit more about her from her relationship with Mastermind. Mastermind is an interesting character in his own right, but what's most relevant here is that he is (presumably) well meaning yet temperamental and has very poor social cues. What exactly made them fond of eachother is hard to know precisely, but I definitely have my list of headcanons.
For one, Farsight was definitely smart. Mastermind probably wouldn't have had the patience to get to know her if she wasn't an academic equal or near-equal. I also headcanon that this intelligence was something she undersold about herself to appear nonthreatening because of her people pleasing tendencies, but it came out around Mastermind regardless because he has limited fields of interest and so things that required her to demonstrate it would come up in conversation. We already know she was forgiving and presumably patient as an extension, which would've made her able to navigate his quirks more easily. She must've also seen some traits in Mastermind that drew her to him-- the altruistic nature of his work and inventions (as mentioned in your fic!) was very likely one. I also like to think she was endeared by him being a bit of a dork and thinking that was sweet. And, having someone who she could let down some social barriers around (since they were meaningless to him anyways) is probably something she would find pleasant. The version of her that I imagine is definitely a likable personality. Very sweet.
One interesting thing about Farsight is, despite being remarkably kind and gentle for her circumstances, is that she definitely wasn't a saint. Her relationship with Fierceteeth seems to have had some very real struggles to it-- she was preoccupied with Starflight's egg when Fierceteeth was young, which led to some disconnection, which according to Fierceteeth's section in Winglets was never really recovered from. Fierceteeth had some childish jealousy over the attention going to the new baby, a fairly routine scenario, but then everything was complicated by the prophecy and the egg being taken and so it was never resolved like it should've been. The interpretation this implies for me personally is that there was some kind of favouritism involved, presumably subconsciously. We know very, very little about Fierceteeth's father, other than the fact that he died before she ever hatched. It's possible that Farsight's relationship with her daughter was either tainted by his death, or her relationship with him entirely-- it's all too easy for someone with people pleasing tendencies like hers to end up in a bad relationship. Meanwhile, Starflight's egg was something she was very attached to, to the point of being (by my reading) in denial about it being taken. Like, if Morrowseer is able to know that this egg will hatch precisely on the brightest night, anyone should be able to tell. (It is a massive plot convenience in WoF that dragon eggs have down-to-the-day perfectly predictable gestation, by the way, but then again most of the biology is like that. Needing a little extra suspension of disbelief is part of the charm!)
Farsight is also very, very full of potential when it comes to the sheer angst of her character. She's stuck in a kind of ambiguous grief that very few dragons around her would be able to understand for, as far as we know, the rest of her life after Starflight's egg is taken-- she knows he's somewhere better than where she is, or at least presumably is, but she'll never know his exact status or location or well-being or anything about him. He's alive, and so she'd feel bad for feeling so strongly (an 'other people have it worse' mentality) on top of feeling bad because. Her child was kidnapped for the greater good. The other parents of the dragonets of destiny had their eggs kidnapped, which they had to deal with, but there's a sort of knife-twisty-ness in Farsight's specific case because she knew it was coming, knew she couldn't resist for the sake of all of the NightWings' survival, had to do it "voluntarily", and still didn't want any of it. Unless she was really, really going through it with the denial that her egg would be taken it's toatlly possible that Starflight was never supposed to intentinally been a prophecy egg, but ended up perfectly in the time frame by coincidence. Which is uh. A gut punch and a half.
I will never get over the Moon Rising prologue, by the way. Secretkeeper really told Farsight that her honest and earnest attempts to consolidate her were inconsiderate and ignorant because she had two perfecly healthy dragonets, one of which being raised on the mainland, as an excuse to get away to make the hatching of her perfectly healthy dragonet who she faked a miscarriage / the egg equivalent thereof to deliberately raise on the mainland. Like, Fierceteeth was stuck on the island and it was in jeopardy if Farsight would even live to see Starflight one day. Secretkeeper had knowledge of Moon's wearabouts and general life existence-- sure she had to sneak away to see her but this was an arrangement she more or less chose. Like, Secretkeeper!!!! Girl!!!! You better have given a damn good apology, especially since it would be impossible to undo even close to all that damage without revealing your secret (which honestly might've pushed even Farsight over the edge into crashing out at her). And, based on the vague and rushed and weird canon timeline (again suspension of disbelief adds ✨ flavour ✨) , Farsight literally died not long after this. Secretkeeper and Farsight's friendship is very interesting to me because of the sheer "oh my god what the hell" factor that scene has. I also have the VERY evil headcanon that they're uh. Exes. And part of why Farsight has maintained attachment despite everything is because she hasn't fully gotten over it. They can be just as compelling platonically too ofc!
ANYWAYS, now for a more mundane, less depressing headcanon: Farsight's occupation! Yayyyy!! My current headcanon (not a particularly strong or defined one mind you) for what her job was is that she was a lookout, mainly because. Her name. She was looking far away or something. (Her name could probably also symbolize thinking about her missing child who was living somewhere far away I suppose? Just thought of that now.) It also sets her up to get killed by SkyWings a bit more obviously but disregarding that for now! Your interpretation of her being on the council is super interesting too, and it makes a lot of sense for her character-- especially the way you write her! I've also seen a fic where she fixed clocks for a living which is cool. A bit of a random choice but a cool random choice. I've also had an idea that she could be like a scribe sort of, recording information or something. It would fit with the 'smart but pushed to the sidelines' sort of thing I have going on with my headcanons for her.
Hopefully that was coherent! I am incapable of brevity as you can see here, and this isn't even absolutely everything if you can believe it. I have a few outlines sitting around for Farsight-centric stories to better show off my interpretation, but none are polished enough to see the light of day as of now. Ideally I'll be able to write and put out something to share more Farsight appreciation with the world in the near future.
TL;DR: Farsight is super interesting to me on a conceptual level, and I have a few ideas for her personality--mainly that she was a people pleaser, among other things--based on what is available in the text. She has compelling appeal, compelling shortcomings, and compelling angst. Also SECRETKEEPER IN THE MOON RISING PROLOGUE AHHHHHHHH

Top 3 move onto main bracket
PROPAGANDA
Valentine:
Ninja nurse working for an even more evil scientist named Brain Drain. Partially responsible for turning Carol into the creature now known as Painwheel.
Zim:
Both a mad genius and a complete moron. Creates a time space object displacement device and accidentally replaces his own brain. Accidentally creates an explosion that explodes real slowly due to fusing with a time stasis field, and decides the best solution is to just speed up the explosion so it will explode and be gone forever (Thus blowing up the entire city).
Mojo Jojo:
Evil Monkey genius, Mojo is not only the most popular villain on the show, but one of the most popular villains and mad scientists in all of Cartoon Network
Rick Sanchez:
Nihilist, Drunkard, and smartest man in the universe. Literally made a tiny civilization in his ship, just so he doesn't have to worry about getting fuel. Also sometimes jumps universes and replaces alternate versions of himself in order to avoid the responsibilities of his actions.
Davros:
Dude literally genetically engineered the Daleks, the series main antagonists. He's basically an alien Dr. Mengele.
Victoria Van Gale:
She's a meteorologist who turned out to be a crazy insane mad scientist/inventor who used living baby clouds (or baby weather spirits) as a way to control the weather. Later on she created her own artificial Nisse to find a way to the Nowhere Space, a place restricted for Nisse, for girlboss reasons idk, and gaslit gatekept girlbossed three kids (two of which were present in the baby weather spirit incident and already had their trust broken by her, although to be fair David had a lot of suspicions she was up to no good here too) to find a way there. She then proceeded to enter the fairy realm (entirely by accident), and she made a deal with the Fairy Entity to stay there forever so she could proclaim herself as the new governor of the newly discovered "Vangalia". Also her name sounds kinda like a homage to THE mad scientist in fiction history (idk whether or not it was intentional but cool nonetheless)
Andonuts:
he abandons his little gay son to make stupid machines, although I suppose he does help save the world….
Mastermind:
Mastermind experimented on RainWings (a.k.a. a race of dragons) in order for his tribe to attack them (and genocide them) and take their home in order for his tribe to no longer live in a awful place where the air is coated with ash, there’s barely any food and is horrendously affecting his tribe’s health. So yeah, pretty fucked up. Also he loves science and literature ❤️
