I watched the 3 new eps of Your friendly neighborhood Spider-man, so here are some of my thoughts:

First, I didn't expect for them to drop 3 whole eps on the second date of release. Like, usually they drop 2/3 eps for the premiere of the show and then it's one ep per week. Which, idk if I like this. It's not a big deal, but I still find it weird. It feels like they are in a rush to release the eps. Maybe it's this one time to make up for the lack of marketing before the show started and because of, well, some controversies that this show has/had even before it started... idk, it's just speculation, and I've seen other people think the same. Anyway, moving on.

Somehow, I feel like Norman is being a better "mentor" to Peter than Tony was in the MCU. Though, this might be because the MCU was kinda limited in their movies and didn't show many scenes between them. This is why I put mentor in quotations, and also because in some ways Norman is still being fishy. Like, he turned out as being more good and genuine than I expected at first, but, ya know, because of Spider-man and Peter Parker luck, shit can hit the fan in this relationship rather quickly.

Norman seems to be a fan of superheroes (emphasis on the seems, and @poke-maniac made some good points in the comments of this post about how Norman seems to not trust or like heroes and only does so with Spider-man because he has the chance to keep Peter under his thumb. And like poke-maniac also put it, Norman looks like he likes to keep things and people (like his son and Peter) under his control. Which ya, can make his "turn into villainy" more expected). And I like how the show actually talks about the Sokovia Accords and their aftermath. Like, for now, it's not much, but I'll take anything about that, considering the MCU didn't really do anything with it besides more than half of the Avengers/heroes not being present when Thanos invaded in Infinity War. Norman seems to be somewhat obsessed with helping/(probably) creating the next big hero that is gonna be the saviour of New York, more in the sense of him being the one responsable for and in control of said big hero of New York.

Norman is being an ass by ignoring some of Peter's desires for Spider-man, like the man didn't even take a look at Peter's designs. Which also, I love that we see Peter design and holding on to his red and blue suit. Can't wait until he makes his own suit. Oh, and also, Norman was also being an ass by offering Peter costumes that had nothing to do with his spider powers and Spider-man persona. Like, Norman, the kid calls himself Spider-man for a reason, you idiot. Though, I found the experimenting the suits scenes hilarious.

I love that Peter refused Norman's offer at first and the poor boy was so nervous when he had to meet Norman in the aftermath of his identity reveal. I also like that Peter took his time to think and to be convinced to accept the offer and that it took Peter thinking of May's money struggles and Norman proving to be helpfull/that Peter needed some help. And, btw, Norman was also fishy by how he hacked Peter's equipment through the satellite. I mean ya, he helped Peter, but still...

Harry found out too. Ups... Peter needs to learn to be more carefull with his secret identity. Though, that is also Norman's fault for not warning Peter beforehand that his son was there, but I also think that it's made obvious that Norman did want his son to know as to be there to help Peter as his "guy in the chair" (lol, they be channeling Ned from the MCU with that one). For now, Peter and Harry's relationship seems to be pretty wholesome. (Though, probably, at some point shit will hit the fan with this relationship too. Maybe because of jealousy and daddy issues, but idk, I might be wrong and this time things will go right between Peter and the Osborns - which I still doubt they will. We'll see...) Oh, and well, Norman not warning Peter about Harry and/or talking to him about telling/showing Harry the truth beforehand is also a red flag. (Norman, that wasn't your secret to tell!)

Though, despite trusting Norman, Peter still seems to not be at ease with him, like he even said he is intimidating, lol. Which makes sense as he is the first person to find out Peter's secret and, despite wanting to help Peter/Spider-man, Norman isn't really listening to Peter and what he wants/needs, as of now. Let's see how that goes moving forward. (And again, Norman's controlling tendencies...)

I liked Tombstone's origin and how they made it contrast to Peter's current situation. Also, that the show, generally, is focusing more on street level crime and gang wars than the MCU ever did.

Uncle Ben is still being talked about, yay :) - though, I still don't get why the show is hidding him. Like, why not show at least a photo of him or something. Why does it feel like the show is making Uncle Ben kind of a mistery (I guess)? Idk how to explain, but it's kinda weird, imo. They even had the chance of showing him when Peter was looking through the pictures on Ben's camera. Also, on another note, it was heartbreaking to see May have to sell Ben's things in order to pay the bills.

Doctor Octopus is here. I like this version of him so far. But we still haven't seen much of him, so ya.

Peter is still coming off as a bad friend to Nico because of his Spider-man stuff. Also, was, like, the show teasing Nico's powers when she touched that necklace, idk, maybe. Sorry, I didn't read her comics...

Overall, I'm enjoying the show and I want to see what happens next. I like it more than I expected to like it at first, especially as it's more of an alternative universe for the MCU than for the comics/other Spider-man cartoons. And they handled the whole "Norman as Peter's mentor" thing better than I expected. Though, this is just the begining of it, but as of now this is how I feel (lol).

It's like seeing a version of the MCU where they used more concepts of Peter Parker's Spider-man characters and ideas. Ya, still mixed, and actually more mixed, with other stuff from other comics, but I still like it and it makes the show feel more "Peter Parker-esque" to me (I guess that's a way to put it. At least, when comparing it to the MCU, lol).

I think it's a fun reimagining.

Author Interview

How did you come up with this WIP?  What inspired you to start working on it? 

It was actually an accident - I sent tumblr user worstloki a picture of something human!Tesseract might wear, and worstloki said it looked like something they'd wear in Panem's Capitol as they laughed at all the poor kids dying in the arena, and the concept was born. Human!Tesseract is a Capitol citizen, Thanos is the president, and the Avengers are stuck in the arena fighting for entertainment. Will a revolution happen before they die? Maybe! Right now there are 6 possible outcomes, and I won't know which one makes the most sense until I get there. Embarrassingly, this might actually be the most words I've ever written for anything.

How do you feel about the original media that your fic is for? 

Absolutely terrible. That's specifically for the MCU. The Hunger Games is great, I have all the respect for Suzanne Collins for maintaining her privacy, and for making great commentary at a YA level about bread and circuses. A lot of it did go over my head when I was in middle school, but I can more fully appreciate it now. I used to love the MCU - I was a diehard fan in the 2012 they-all-lived-in-the-tower days, went to the midnight premier of Age of Ultron, saw every movie... but now everything is focus-grouped and tailored to avoid saying anything significant or offending any bigots, all in the name of a megacorporation making more money. Endgame was supposed to be the end of it, but then they kept going, and never manage to leave the military propaganda side of things. I'm done giving money to them, but I think this fic was intended as... an homage to the time I spent playing in that sandbox as a kid. All of my MCU fics seem to be an attempt to reclaim the stories and the joy from the soulless megacorp and make my own thing from them.

What parts of this WIP are you most excited to write?  (Non-spoilery answers only, please!)

I got REALLY excited to figure out what each of the Avengers would look like as a teenaged Panem citizen and tribute, and that's what I'm working on right now. As for future parts, I'm a little excited to write the human versions of the Infinity Stones, and a lot excited to figure out and then write the "audition" scenes where the Tributes show off their skills and get scores.

Disney+ Series ‘The Mandalorian,’ ‘WandaVision’ and ‘Loki’ Coming to Blu-ray and 4K UHD Later This Year

The formerly streaming-only titles are now physical

Some of your favorite Disney+ streaming series from Lucasfilm and Marvel Studios are getting the physical media treatment later this year with new Blu-ray and 4K UHD releases of the first two seasons of Lucasfilm’s live-action “Star Wars” series “The Mandalorian” as well as Marvel Studios’ “WandaVision” and the first season of “Loki.”

“Loki” will be available on Sept. 26, “WandaVision” will be available on Nov. 28, and the first two seasons of “The Mandalorian” will be available on Dec. 12. The titles will be available on Collector’s Edition 4K UHD and Blu-ray, “featuring Steelbook packaging, concept art cards and some never-before-seen bonus features.” The Steelbook edition will feature brand-new box art designed by artist Attila Szarka and collectible concept art cards. (People love their Steelbooks!)

The special features for the “Loki” release include “Designing the TVA” which features production designer Kasra Farahani and Tom Hiddleston (and contains a look at the upcoming season 2); the Miss Minutes TVA orientation video; deleted scenes (including a moment that introduces Frog Thor); a gag reel; and the “Assembled” documentary (another former Disney+ exclusive). Special features for the other releases will be shared at a later date.

“The Mandalorian” debuted with the rest of Disney+ on November 12, 2019. It quickly became the flagship series for the company’s direct-to-consumer streaming platform and inspired a whole host of spin-offs, including “The Book of Boba Fett” and “Ahsoka” (premiering this Tuesday on Disney+).

“WandaVision” was the first Marvel Studios Disney+ series, which debuted on the platform on January 15, 2021. “Loki” debuted several months later on June 9, 2021, resurrecting the Tom Hiddelston character that died at the beginning of “Avengers: Infinity War” and introducing the idea of the Multiverse. It is also the first Marvel Studios Disney+ to warrant a second season, which will start streaming in October.

Other Marvel Studios Disney+ series that followed “WandaVision” include “Moon Knight,” “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” and “Secret Invasion,” which recently wrapped.

All four of these Disney+ titles will be available to pre-order beginning on August 28.

I also agree that Seb wouldn't bring up the Broadway thing if he didn't already know if Chris' would/wouldn't want to do it.

In my opinion I think the problem here is their timing. Seb mentioned last year (I think) in that video that he wanted to do a play with someone with whom he already worked but didn't say who. I kinda think he didn't say it because he didn't want to bring attention to it just yet because he knew that in the next months to a year, A different man and The Apprentice would probably be out, and those are movies that I feel he really wanted to promote because of the work that they have behind. (He probably was also shooting Thunderbolts around that time and maybe 2024 too, I don't really know as I don't really follow marvel news anymore).

The thing is, now that he actually said that he wanted to do a play with Chris and brought attention to it, it's maybe because he expects his 2025 or early 2026 to have some free months where he could squeeze in Broadway. BUT sadly I think that late 2025 will be a busy time for Chris because they just wrapped up in Greece a few weeks ago, there's also the movie with Dakota and Pedro... and maybe those will be released by the end of next year.

So maybe Chris is "not responding" because he's not sure of what his schedule will look like.

Personally, I feel like they both have talked about it before and now is more of a team-actor negotiation because you just can't say 'yeah let's do this' have the internet talk about it and hype it up but then turn out that you have a contract to promote a movie that you can't just ditch to do another thing (Infinity War was probably an exception because, you know, they had another 20 actors to do press). So maybe Chris and his team are waiting to know the approximate release/premieres/movie festivals dates before publicly say either yes or no.

Anyway I really hope they get the opportunity to do this. Maybe I'm biased ;) but they actually have an exploitable chemistry that could work very well in a play or a movie. Plus, daily content of the two of them of course.

This all makes a LOT of sense to me, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on this! I feel like you're most likely right, and I'm right there with you hoping and praying they can make the timings work somehow, if they do both want to do this thing together! It would be such a waste of their incredible chemistry if they never did anything else together, and an absolute dream come true for me and you and lots of other people if they did! Fingers & toes crossed 🙏🏻❤️

Just thinking in big nerd of comics Gareth who LOVES Marvel and went to every movie premier when the MCU started.

He used his fame as CC drummer to get tickets every time and it get a regular meme how people waited for his photos instead of the main cast, because he was photographed before and after every movie, Is kinda funny how some fans score the movie with that, if he's crying then the movie will be amazing, if he's not the movie perhaps is funny but not spectacular, If he's just smiling awkwardly then that's the lame movie even witnessed (it only happened with Iron Man 3 tho).

The first photography after Avengers wasnt Robert Downey Jr or Chris Evans or Scarlette Johansson, it was Gareth Emerson crying in Will Byers arms because he was overwhelmed for seeing his favorite heros in screen for the first time.

He eventually open his social media accounts and people though it was fake because he immediately started discussing about the MCU and the comics, his social meddia accounts are divided between Corroded Coffin news, embarrasing stories about Eddie, Will Byers n. 1 fanpage and Marvel.

He's always the most excited with new material, and when Infinity War came, Gareth had to take some days out internet before and after the movie to avoid spoilers and then because he was absolutely devastated crying in bed, Will had to post a photo where you could see him in bed cuddling his Spider Man plushie with a caption saying: "worst time to be Marvel fan but he'll survive."

Will also shares in ig stories how he's taking care of him and Eddie films himself going to the Byers-Emerson house with what it looks like buckets of ice cream saying to Steve: "dont wait for me tonight, my best friend is probably dying" and post it in tiktok.

Corroded Coffin also had the chance to record a song for the MCU and Gareth still believes is his biggest achievement, the next one is marrying with Will (and Will doesn't feel offended because he says his biggest achievement was meeting "The Clash" and then his marriage)

Once again: Lizzie has not said she is done with Marvel. Her personal taste is smaller, more arthouse, indie films. We know this and have for a long time. If you actually watch her NPR interview, or even just listen to it, she never explicitly said anything about being done with Wanda. She loves working for Marvel, but it is not the art she consumes. She just said she had finished filming a movie and was moving immediately into her FX pilot. Which might not even get picked up! I hope it does, it sounds really interesting! Now, London. She never said anything about not being in London ever. Hell, she has spoken in the past about wanting to move to London.

Doomsday and Secret Wars are most likely going to be shot back-to-back, like Infinity War and Endgame. That's gonna be at least a year. They will probably have recently finished Secret Wars, or doing reshoots, when Doomsday premieres. Especially if rumors are true and SW is going to be the grand finale of the current iteration of the MCU.

Don't listen to clickbait headlines. Read. Listen to the words coming out of actors' mouths. I don't understand this illogical insistence that every Marvel actor has to be some ascended fan or something. These are actors. This is a job for, I assure you, 100% of them. Even RDJ. Even the ones who love their characters. Come on, people.
