there is something so very sad about watching a piece of media that has such obvious thought behind it, interesting concepts, solid writing, a passionate team that cares about the art they're making, and yet has to work within a time limit that completely strangles the story they're trying to tell.
#watching infinity train s1 with friends#i am so mad these episodes should be 20 minutes long#who decided this. who had to nerf this show like this. for fucks sake let these scenes BREATHE#these are not 11 minute episode stories

Over the Garden Wall had ten episodes, three of which are 11 minutes long and seven are 12 minutes. The series is 117 minutes, which is 1 hour, 57 minutes long, yet it had slower pacing than Hazbin Hotel's first season, which had eight 30-minute episodes, averaging out to 240 minutes, or 4 hours.
Even Infinity Train's first season, which has ten eleven-minute episodes, did better with its pacing than Hazbin Hotel, despite only having 110 minutes, a.k.a., 1 hour, 50 minutes. Both OTGW and Infinity Train had half the time Vivziepop had, but had slower pacing and better development than Hazbin Hotel.
Helluva Boss, a show she has control over, has poor pacing, character, and world development because she doesn't have the patience to explore her story slowly. Vivziepop is the issue with the pacing in her writing, not the length of her shows.
Exactly. Other shows have done so much more with a tenth of the resources and opportunities she's been given.

Infinity Train book 1 episode 7 "The Chrome Car" is such a good episode by itself.
Lake is presented as the episode antagonist's at first: they're just a selfish reflection who wants to get out no matter what, even if that means leaving Tulip behind. We as the audience are rooting for Tulip because she's our main character, leaving thus Lake as just an episodic bit or, at most, a memorable antagonist.
However, as Tulip is in the mirror world, we are quickly presented with some of Lake's problems: they can't leave the car by themself, there are mirror cops (the flecks) that not only don't care about anyone, they are brutal and systemic in their ways. Tulip sees this and is shocked, trying to help Lake (although struggling to earn their trust at first). However, both of them work together: Tulip can leave the car and Lake is finally free, getting to enjoy their new freedom.
In just 11 minutes, book 2's main character and conflict are presented. There are also some hints of its ending even, with Lake tricking the train so that they can get out and One-one (albeit its mirror self) being an antagonistic force. There's also some brief snippets about the identity themes! I'm so glad they could explore it with a whole season, but god even their first introduction is amazing. Lake I love you you're one of the characters of all time.
#infinity train spoilers#infinity train#infinity train book 1#lake infinity train#tulip olsen#I don't know how I'm going to survive book 2 because I already got so emotional over THIS#anyways infinity train was so good they had go cancel it because hbo execs hate trans people. goodnight

Rewatched 'Crushed Out' (Ep 6B) and just wanted to talk about how it plays into my headcannons!
SOOOOO this is the episode where Dylan falls in love with Portia. It plays some impact in how I view Portia's character, but I also see it as a good look at Dante to (H'es my favourite character, can you tell?).
Dante is shown to be almost gleeful at helping Dylan be 'more goth.' by making him destroy the things he loves.
However I always found this a bit... odd. Dante seems like a good kid, who knows when things go too far regarding his siblings feelings, at least when he's mentally well (Read not 'Dante's Inferno' ep.) Yet he's causing Dylan so much emotional pain here. However the more I thought about, the more I realized that's not really what Dante's happy about. I'm willing to bet that whenever Dante hangs out with his family or even just Dylan and Dante 1 on 1, they usually do what anyone BUT Dante wants to do. Not because they don't care about him but because his interests aren't as universal as other activities. This is Dylan doing stuff Dante is into. Nihilism. Goth culture. Dante is happy Dylan is doing what Dante wants to do!
Another reason I think this is true is because what happens when Dylan finally breaks? What happens when Dylan doesn't care anymore (Or is better acting like it)?
Dante doesn't look happy about it.
I mean, he's not worried either, but he's not excited or even just smiling a little, or looking smug/pleased. He's just... this. He doesn't even change expression until the next scene. What I think is going on with Dante is that he's... mildly concerned. Maybe wondering if this is actually good for Dylan or what Dylan really wants. However I think he chooses to listen to what Dylan and Fergus are saying over what he's seeing. The last time we see Dante this episode is when Dylan shows up to dinner. Its hard to make out his expression but maybe he is just silently supporting Dylan's new look.
WHICH launches me into my next talking point. Character ages.
Its often stated in promo material and the show bible that Dylan and Dolly are 'tweens.' AKA 11-13. I never really believed that. They're in charge of how many kids? Day and night? Along with taking them out to places? Plus with the amount of dating Dylan and Dolly do, I always found it a bit odd for that age range. I do have some theories for this though. That age group may have been used just for pitching. Animation companies hate using protagonists over 14 for their main characters. (Glances at Amphibia and the Owl House respectively. Then Glares at Infinity Train.) So they just say their characters are this age and have them act older. Or this detail was left on the cutting room floor along with other stuff. I actually see Dylan and Dolly closer to young adult. 17 or a little older? Still irresponsible in places but responsible in others.
Why do I bring this up here? Well because after the dinner scene, Fergus and Dylan go to the Cat's Canal gig. You know, the goth rock event.
So the big question here is... WHY DIDN'T DANTE GO?! Its just Fergus and Dylan that went! Despite this being Dante's thing!
One theory could be that Dylan didn't want to watch him AND try to catch Portia's attention. However I think its more that Dante isn't actually old enough for and event like this. I head cannon Dante at 14 in the show. Gigs like this can have drinking, drugs and other things that Disney won't show you XD. Dylan, around 17 or 18, would be able to go and likely have safe judgment. Dante would not.
COURSE this is all just headcannons of me looking too closely at a children's cartoon! What do you guys think about this? Love to hear your ideas!

OK. I remember a few weeks that Dana said “Owl House” would’ve been totally different on CN due to different episode lengths and it got me thinking
And she is correct, she probably could have had more freedom in showing LGBT+ couples or other darker things since CN is more open minded but not always ("cough" Steven Universe "cough") and the length of the episodes would have been 11 minutes.
That's not say she wouldn't have been able to write something good- i mean look at series like Craig of the Creek, Infinity Train, OK KO or Summer Camp Island- they were able to do some very impressive stuff with their episodes having only 11 minutes of runtime.
However... the budget of The Owl House would have been smaller, it would have got less advertisement, very poor haitus and episode airing (yes, they are still doing that). And i'm not even sure if the series would have made it past a second season. I explained this to a mutual some days ago that CN has been treating most of its animated series like shit in the last few years. A lot has to do with the merging that but still, they haven't been treating their series well outside of that.
Have you guys have heard about Elliot from Earth? That series had all its Season 1 episodes airing two weeks, ending in a cliffhanger and was never seen what happened of it again. Some even believe that there are a few episodes missing fron the season too. (Last episode has "Part 1") in it. The creator of the show later left CN after this.
So yeah, all factors considered The Owl House ending at Disney was the safest option out of the two since it got 22 minute episodes, a bigger budget and proper airing of episodes and a actual ending that i highly doubt it would have had if it had been on CN

The excuse that the show simply needed more episodes is getting really tiresome. Like no, Infinity Train's running time was 10- 11 minutes long and they only had 10 episodes per season and they fleshed out all the characters well. Hazbin Hotel had 8 episodes, which had a running time of 20 minutes. It's just bad planning, that's what it is. Hazbin Hotel would have had 16 episodes had they gone the 10 minutes long route, but nope. And instead, they wasted 8 episodes on things that were pretty pointless leading up to the climax. Vivienne is just a bad planner, even on her independent series Helluva Boss.
Yep, the big problem is that Vivziepop doesn't know how to properly organize her story. She doesn't want to realize she couldn't build everything in season one and badly build up to the finale. I mean people complained about how meandering Zoophobia was and how it got focus off on the og main lead before just stopping completely. She lacks that focus that is present in her projects and it's annoying.

Demon Slayer S4 episodes prediction
First of all I want to discuss the number of episodes this season will have. I think is either 8 (as rumors said) or 11 (as we are used to). But as per the leaked images for ep. 4 I think this season will also have 11 episodes. My reasoning is that episode 4 is almost entirelly original content, which if we go with the route of 8 episodes, there should be 4 episodes left that should include the training with Mitsuri, Obanai, Sanemi and all the conflict with Genya, Gyomei and his backstory, Tomioka trying to be friends with Sanemi, the confrontation of Kagaya and Muzan, their backstory and the aftermath of that conversation (I believe the season will end with the characters falling in the infinite castle).
This said I will start with my episodes prediction for this season:
Ep.1: Intro (already aired)
Ep.2: Giyu's backstory (already aired)
Ep. 3: Training with Uzui (original content already aired)
Ep. 4: Training with Muichiro (based on the leaked images it seems this ep will be almost all original content)
Ep. 5: Training with Mitsuri (almost all original content)
Ep. 6: Training with Obanai (almost all original content)
Ep. 7: Training with Sanemi and the conflict between the brothers (canon content from manga and some original content)
Ep. 8: Training with Gyomei and his backstory (canon content from manga)
Ep. 9: Entirely original episode featuring Shinobu, Tamayo, Yushiro and even Kanao
Ep. 10: Giyu trying to be friends with Sanemi, them fighting each other, ends with Muzan arriving to the mansion (canon content from manga)
Ep. 11: Kagaya's and Muzan's conversation (extended), their backstory (extended), the explosion and ending with the characters falling into the infinity castle
What do you think of my prediction? Do you think we will get 8, 11, or a in-between number of episodes?

Is Ufotable seriously going to stretch out the Hashira Training arc to 11 episodes? Or are we getting Infinity Fortress as a surprise? I wouldn't be surprised if they made another movie just for the Sunrise Countdown arc
Your guess is as good as mine! I have not seen any announcement of how many episodes it will be (but also haven't looked that hard)

yeah my favorite character is probably this sort of clone character from a show that aired on cartoon network but had later works in the same franchise be made for hbo max. yeah yeah it's rated tv-pg and the episodes are 11 minutes each. yep it's two words. the first one is longer than the second which starts with a t and is one syllable. yeahhh the title is thirteen letters total. so the character. they would do anything to be their own person even if it means doing away with their non-clone counterpart. but they end up making amends with them in the end. and they chose a gender-neutral name for themself. yeah it's a noun. something that appears in nature yeah yeah. they're a teenager. and there's a scene where they have a meltdown. and they're all one solid color. and their name is four letters. and they have cool hair. you know who i'm talking about right
this post was brought to you by lake infinity train and fern adventure time
#adventure time#infinity train#i realized how similar they are bc i was thinking about lake and jesse watching adventure time and they get to the episode football and#jesse is like ''mmmm maybe we should skip this one'' (he has seen it before)#and then they get to season 8 and lake sees fern and says oh my god he just like me fr

Live Blog of Interstitial Infinity #11 - The People At Home:
power plays are already happening in the introductions, we love to hear it
oh god, we just got Al's body back, and now he's totally missing hhhhhhhh
I'm appreciating everyone getting a chance to ask, "hey, what about this person's reaction to them being missing?", that's fun
hearing all the different "tension-building-music" from everyone's shows is good, I love that
I've got a really messy and disconnected word cloud going on in my head that's just, like:
The Mirror Figure at the Truth Gate
Lake/MJ/Chrome Car denizens
Shadow The Hedgehog/being a clone of Shadow The Hedgehog/Metal Sonic
Interstitial's The Other playbook
Kingdom Hearts and Nobodies
Gender
Bath & Butler (^& Borges) Works
and now I'm laughing at the idea of seeing this entire word cloud on a T-shirt lmao
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure... man... those adventures certainly are bizarre, huh?
does Trish just go to regular high school??? excuse me??????
interior...Cannolo...Murolo...I drive a Chevrolet...movie......rococo? (that doesn't quite work, ah well, gonna be tumbling that JoJo name around in my head like a nice rock, very cellar door quality name)
part of this ep is dedicated to me learning things about JoJo lol 😄
thinking about if mob and ritsu universe swapped or role swapped with ed and al...the brother vibes are just sooo different in certain ways
I think Tome asked akinator where mob is
suddenly getting flashbacks to reading a cute ot3 fancomic with reigen/mob's parents a long, long time ago
GOOD FOR HER!!! (Rouge-style Mephiles 🖤)
if there was a character ask meme for developing your interstitial infinity character, I feel like "what made you want to get on the train?" is great
"aS a PoDcAsTeR"
Ed annoying Ling again by doing the brother hair antenna telepathy, like he did in the gluttony dimension
special delivery to Ling!!! congratulations! it's a diplomatic incident!!! :D
I'm laughing at the difference between FMA and most of the other universes where in FMA it's just like, basically EVERYONE knows Al is gone!!! but! shhh!!! we can't tell!!! or else his brother (infamous for fighting SCIENCE & GOD to bring his brother back) will. Lose. His. Shit. (and even worse!!! he'll be sooo Annoying until his brother is back)
this episode was such a treat aaaaa, this show y'all 💚💚💚
and now: we shift to Not Worrying about this arc's name 🙂🙂🙂

Everytime I see HH stans argue that all the writing flubs are due to the short episode amount, I wanna remind them that shows like Adventure Time, Steven Universe, and Infinity Train have made BANGERS with 10 minutes whereas Hazbin got 25 minutes. Infinity Train had 10 episodes, at 10 minutes each, for each season and each season was able to tell a well done story. A good writer would have done their best with what they had. Hazbin was run by amateurs. End of story.
Don't forget Over the Garden Wall! 10 episodes, 11 minutes each, didn't need a minute more to tell the perfect story. Bluey tells them in 7 minutes.

Kiff Review
Kiff is a musical comedy animated series by Lucy Heavens and Nic Smal. They are known for their work in the animation industry, either script writing, storyboarding, or voice acting. This post will have spoilers.
Reprinted from Pop Culture Maniacs and Wayback Machine. This was the twenty-seventh article I wrote for Pop Culture Maniacs. This post was originally published on March 27, 2023.
The plot of Kiff focuses on a young flying squirrel named Kiff Chatterley (voiced by Kimiko Glenn), who is friends with a mellow bunny named Barry Buns (H. Michael Croner) in a magical land, within the mountains, known as Table Town. Both go on adventures in and around the town.
Like other Disney series airing this year, Kiff is aimed at kids and families. This is clear from the format, similar to many episodes of Amphibia, Milo Murphy's Law, and Phineas and Ferb. Each 22-minute episode is divided into two 11-minute segments. In typical Disney fashion, there is a musical number in almost every episode.
Apart from the animating powerhouse of Disney Television Animation, a well-known animation studio, Titmouse, is producing the series. The same studio is known for series such as Cleopatra in Space, Star Trek: Lower Decks, The Midnight Gospel, Q-Force, Inside Job, Pantheon, My Dad the Bounty Hunter, The Legend of Vox Machina, Fairfax, and Chicago Party Aunt.
Many of the voice actors in Kiff are well-experienced. Glenn previously voiced Paperstar in Carmen Sandiego, Katherine-Alice in Welcome to the Wayne, Tomiko in Elena of Avalor, and Nomi in Dogs in Space, to name a few roles. Deedee Magno Hall, who voices Deer Teacher in the series, is best known for voicing Pearl in Steven Universe. Furthermore, James Monroe Iglehart and Lauren Ash, who voice Kiff's parents, prominently voiced characters in series such as Tangled, Helluva Boss, Elena of Avalor, and She-Ra and the Princesses of Power.
Keen listeners might recognize Rachel House, voice of Barry's mother, or Nichole Sakura, voice of Barry's sister. Both had prominent voice roles in Moana and OK K.O.!: Let's Be Heroes. Personally, I was familiar with voice actors Katie Crown and Rhys Darby because they voiced characters in Cleopatra in Space. The former also voiced Ivy in Amphibia. Furthermore, Darby voiced a variety of characters in Milo Murphy's Law, We Bare Bears, Welcome to the Wayne, Star vs. the Forces of Evil, and Infinity Train. It was great to hear Vella Vowell, who voices Candle Fox, again. I remembered her impressive voice acting as Princess Mermista in She-Ra and the Princesses of Power and as the No Tattoo Barista (which later turned into a CBD Monster) in the lesser-known Magical Girl Friendship Squad.
Kiff snagged the well-regarded Eric Bauza and Tom Kenny. From my years of watching animated series, I was familiar with Bauza as Scoops in Ollie & Scoops, as well as Kenny for two roles: Ice King in Adventure Time and Yancy Fry in Futurama. In this series, Bauza voices Reggie and a scrupulous TV producer named Roy Fox, while Kenny voices multiple characters in the series. A stand-up comedian named Josh Johnson also voices Barry's brother, Harry.
youtube
The show's animation is expressive and colorful. However, it pales in comparison to Amphibia, The Owl House, or Adventure Time. In some ways, Phineas and Ferb is put together better, as is Milo Murphy's Law. All in all, the show is a bit funny, but not laugh-out-loud funny. Drama is more a strong suit for the series than comedy.
The first twelve episodes of the series are double-episodes. They introduce viewers to the characters, allowing you to get a feeling for their lives. More than anything, they make it clear that Kiff is not serialized like Steven Universe, Tangled, or Milo Murphy's Law (especially the second season). Instead, each episode seems in its own world, without being connected to another. If some rumors are correct about upcoming Hailey's On It! and Iwaju, it appears that Disney series are moving in this direction. This is evidenced by the fact that the recently aired Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur uses serialized storytelling.

However, the recently aired Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur uses serialized storytelling as does the upcoming Hailey's On It! and Iwaju, if reports are correct.
Kiff has some elements reminding me of the Futurama episode openings, like fake adverts at the beginning of each episode. At the same time, the series is different than what has come before since the show creators, Heavens and Smal, who voice characters in the series, are from Cape Town, South Africa. As a result, their life-stories are undoubtedly integrated into the series itself. Furthermore, the show's directors include animators for Black Dynamite, 6Teen, and Amphibia, with this career experience enhancing the show even more.
The series emphasizes the importance of acceptance, friendship, self-worth, and notoriety. The latter is shown in the extreme by Roy Fox, who makes trashy reality shows in order to profit from people's misery. In a manner similar to the focus on education in many anime series, Kiff seems to imply that education is important to achieving your dreams and that school shouldn't be skipped, no matter what. This stands diametrically opposed to what is shown in Birdie Wing: Eve, one of the show's protagonists, is a terrible student, but remains at the premiere golf academy because she is a sports star.
There are many other themes focused in Kiff. For instance, the episode "Career Day", when Kiff and Barry get a part-time job at city hall, implies that mass records destruction is fine as long as you cut through the "red tape". This contrasts with commentary about overly technical bureaucracy in Hilda and Futurama, to name two series. Such a negative theme in "Career Day" is offset by episodes which accentuate family togetherness and honesty.
As a person who has reviewed media with libraries and librarians in pop culture since July 2020, and with a MLIS degree, it should be no surprise one of my favorite episodes of Kiff was "Club Book". In he episode, Kiff learns the value of quietness in the library after turning the library into a club scene. I thought it was interesting that the librarian, voiced by Aparna Nancherla, is made more relatable than most. Her character, Miss Moufflé, somewhat bucking stereotypes, while reinforcing them at the same time, as she shushes people but also likes souffles.
Similar to other series, the value of libraries as a place of knowledge and learning is affirmed in Kiff. In some ways, the episode reminded me of the "Quiet Riot" episode of The Replacements, in which the show's protagonist, Todd, causes the shushing librarian in charge of the school library replaced by a rockstar. However, he later regrets his decision, resulting in the original librarian returning to her job.
youtube
Currently, Kiff is almost half-way through its series order of 30 episodes. It is hard to know where the series will go from here. Even so. I am more optimistic about this series than Hamster & Gretel, which has fallen flat, despite the fact that Dan Povenmire is the show's creator. Instead, the series has episodes somewhat mimicking absurdity and, even hilarity (to an extent), which are present in Phineas and Ferb. The latter, in fact, was recently renewed for more two seasons.
Even so, Kiff will probably never measure-up to the strength of four-season animated magical comedy powerhouse of Phineas and Ferb, a series even mentioned in an episode of Better Things, a comedy-drama by Pamela Adlon, who voiced some characters in the series. Despite this, Kiff will chart its own path, perhaps different than what has come before. After all, both creators are said to be a "brilliant creative team".
Although Disney has recently removed release dates from the upcoming Tiana and Moana series, clearly Kiff is part of a trend by the company to feature more diverse series. This year is bound to bring series such as Iwáju and Hailey's On It!, while there are others in production such as Cookies & Milk and Primos.
It is further possible that Disney is producing Molly Ostertag's Neon Galaxy, a series reportedly about a trans princess. In any case, diverse series are on the horizon for Disney, especially more than HBO Max, a network which has been struggling to find its corporate identity since David Zaslav became CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate. It is said that the streaming service has Iyanu: Child of Wonder and Lumberjanes in production.
The first 12 episodes of Kiff are currently airing on Disney+ and all twelve episodes have aired on the Disney Channel. Four new episodes will air on the Disney Channel on April 1st and later be added on Disney+.

How I would animate the upcoming season if I were Ufotable
Spoilers below:
I'd wrap up the current Hashira Training Arc in about 5 to 6 episodes, and have Muzan get blown up by ep 6 or some number around there. (I watched the movie premiere and first ep with a lot of anime only content covered 2.5 chapters. HTC is 10 chapters long.) Since a usual season is about 11 eps, I'd animate the remaining 5 eps with Infinity Castle. I'd embellish the fuck out of Zenitsu's fight with UM 6, make it last a full episode.
And I'd show Shinobu vs Douma. The season ends with Shinobu's death. This will really show how strong the UMs are and leave some kind of impact like Rengoku's death did. Then I'll leave the rest of Infinity Castle for a full season in 2025/2026. Viewers will be hankering after the possibility of Kanao avenging her mentor.
(Most likely this isn't happening tbh; I am just thinking out loud.)

TOH rewatch semi-liveblog. Season 1 part 1a
episodes 1-3
Episode 1
- I didn't remember this, but pretty much the first thing Camila says is that she supports Luz's creativity, yet the fandom ignored it and demonized her with no restrain. And at the end of the episode when Luz places a photo of her with Camila - it is clear she loves her mom so much, and the photo is of them hugging openly - compared to the Blight's portrait for example - the show would've shown the true dynamic through the photo if that was necessary. And yet the fandom wanted Luz to abandon her mother, her father's grave and their culture to live with the 'more accepting' white 'mom' (which is, you know, actual colonial propaganda). I wasn't even in the fandom before season 2b, but the behavior around Camila was so gross even i knew about it.
- I would say the extra quick pacing of the first 2 episodes and meta humor 101 are much more tolerable when you are prepared for them. When i tried watching it the very first time i couldn't get past the first 10 minutes, then i tried again later, and it still felt like the first episode was way too fast, even compared to something like the Infinity Train which had 11 minutes episodes. But this time it didn't seem that bad. Luz's speech to the Conformatorium prisoners was maybe the only thing that felt too quick.
- Some humor is actually funny and some is very much dark humor 101 aimed at tweens that is probably hilarious and novel for the target audience, but seems like it was done 100 times before for anyone older. That's not a criticism, it is what it is. (when the show attempts humor aimed at older internet-based fandom, especially later on, that's what i find much more cringe-inducing tbh).
- Really like Eda's voice acting, and voice acting and music in general. Love most of the designs for non-humanoid demons. Pity that we don't see that much of them later.
- Oh, but all the things Eda does that would've made fandom hate Darius if he did the same. From pocking Hooty in the eye to joking about Warden Wrath tormenting 'some tiny creature', to only promising to bring Luz - who doesn't understand this world and doesn't know about the tyrany of the Emperor - home if Luz helps infiltrate the prison, to calling an 8 year her roomate, to not thinking about whether Luz would be able to do magic before promising to teach her... but i bet no one crawls into the notes of any random art of Eda with King to whine how "she should've been nicer from the start".
- What's with this thing:
it looks like the owl version of that cat-with-human-face gag from what we do in the shadows movie.
Episode 2
- I don't have a problem with it, considering the target audience is younger than the characters, but the kids (except King) really act younger than their ages.
- But i do have a problem when the fandom interprets it as Luz being 'less smart' than other characters and painting her as over the top reckless especially in the takes that aim to be more realistic than the show's stylized storytelling, when she is actually smart. Even in this episode Luz quickly starts to wonder whether it was the right choice to follow the quest, and only the confirmation of the magic makes her fully engage (and prior to it Eda and King just laughing at her like that surely is something that would've made any teenager more reckless)
- Puppets... kinda curious whether it was always meant to be a parallel to the finale, or the dream sequence in the final episode was added and connected to this episode after the shortening. Or maybe there would've been actual fighting with the puppets with full season 3? Who knows /desperatly hopes there was no puppets at all before the shortening.
- They've really fully intentionally murdered (and ate) the villain, lol
Episode 3
- This was actually the first episode i really liked when i first watched the series.
- Willow is so good! From the first scene they show how angry she is without painting that anger in a negative light. Could've been one of the best chracters in the show if they didn't mess up the pacing of her arc.
- King is so mouthy towards Eda sometimes. Yes, i find it funny that King and Eda are often mean towards each other - and sometimes, i admit, it crosses the line where i wish the writing was different - but supposedly the kids watching this can stomach it and understand their relationship, yet 20+ years old fandom adults can't deal with anything but the most obvious therapy talk when it comes to the precious woobie they twist Hunter into being [and by that i don't mean some awkward characterization but turning him into the same woobie type every fandom makes out of fan favorite white characters that very specifically relays on erasing or demonizing other characters, most often character of color or turning them, as others have called it, into comfort machines]
- I love that Eda is allowed to be mad at the school and how she was treated. There could've been a pretty interesting connection with Willow in this regard too, but alas.
- Luz is a fake weird animal-loving girl for not being interested in the dead slug /j
- Forgot that abominations can talk... kinda...
- Yeah, i think Amity is way too mean towards Willow in the first scene - making the abomination draw on her forehead - considering what actually happens with Amity's and Willow's arcs later, and where the focus of their relationship gets shifted. If they wanted Amity be this mean, it should've been either some unusual circumstances (like, after Willow gets the good grade over her) or there should have been more exploration about it later with more focus on Willow and with different things focused on in Amity's arc. If not, they should've toned it down to be more in line with how it is written later on.
- And Luz and Willow's chemistry is so, so great! It's such a shame how quickly it was abandoned😞
- I feel bad for the slug... interesting how all the more obvious one-off 'villains' in the first season are less humanoid demons or creatures.
- And yes, i really believe the old hexsquad as a friend group was something only added later, otherwise Eda never reacting to Gus (or even the Blight kids later on, but especially Gus considering how he gets less focus from early on) is surely a choice.
