You know, I still want an AU where Mebuki and Kizashi become the team parents for team 7. I have only found one so far and that's Rays of Spring Sunshine by sparklyfaerie over on AO3.

So let's add some more to the internet, lets make a childhood friends au for team 7. For shits and giggles we could also potentially add Sand Cousins to this AU later, also Merchant Haruno clan. (For those wondering what those are here's a link or two or three)

Okay, so here's what I'm thinking. We have merchant Kizashi Haruno who moved to Konoha to help expand business. Mebuki, who was originally from Suna, was a chunin level ninja during the war but retired after and moved with her husband. After the move to Konoha they have Sakura.

Mebuki has gotten a job in the village as a social worker or the equivalent to that. Because of her previously being a shinobi, a lot of her cases are children whose ninja parents died on missions. Most of them being clan kids, it was easy to find new living situations for them with other clan members and then do check ins. A lot of clans already had procedures put in place for this, too. Then, one day, she got her newest cases with a muttered good luck. Mebuki looked them over, Sasuke Uchiha and Naruto Uzumaki. The only survivor of the recently massacred Uchiha clan and the vessel for the nine tailed fox.

Oh dear god, what the hell?! The mom in Mebuki was ready to fist fight someone. What moron deemed it okay to let two little boys who are obviously traumatized live on their own? Nope not on Mebuki's watch.

As the new case worker for each boy, Mebuki does have to go make house calls. She takes Sakura with her, so not only will Mebuki stay calm, with several little eyes watching her, but sometimes having another child there will relax the other, and having them play together gives Mebuki more insight.

"Sakura, be nice to these boys," Mebuki tells her daughter. "Life has not been kind to them, so we must."

The little girl nodded as she followed her mother to the first apartment.

Mebuki almost fainted at the state of the apartment she entered. Does no help this boy clean? Or at least show him how?!

"Are you my new social worker?" Naruto asked, recognizing the symbol on the file in Mebuki's hands.

Mebuki nodded, getting down on the boy's eye level while she talked to him. "Yes, I'm Mebuki Haruno, and this is my daughter Sakura. May we come in?"

The boy was on edge which Mebuki didn't blame him for he has gone through almost as many social workers as he had years on this earth. But after a gentle nudge to her daughter Sakura got him to relax a little. The way he bombarded her daughter proved Meuki's suspicions true, the boy was starved for attention. It was partly why Mebuki brought her along, and her daughter's empathy was sometimes needed to help gaining other children's trust.

Sakura spending time with Naruto also gave Mebuki an insight that this boy was indeed left to fend for himself. Well, she'll have to change that. One of these days later this week, she'll have to come back with Sakura to start teaching Naruto basic life skills. She'll be damned if this boy is only surviving off ramen.

The next stop was Sasuke Uchiha's apartment. This one Mebuki was more hesitant on bringing Sakura to. Trauma and the reaction to it is unpredictable, especially in ones so young. Mental health is also often ignored among shinobi and ninja clans. Mebuki highly doubts Sasuke has received anything in healing besides his physical body.

Unsurprisingly, the boy is angry and demands they go away. Unfortunately, Mebuki is just as if not more stubborn. She's a former shinobi. Does he really think a locked door is gonna stop her?

She makes a deal with Sasuke, if she can get in then he'll work with her since he'll be seeing a lot of her in the next few years. Sasuke snorts but takes the deal thinking she won't get in, after all this women is just a civilian.

30 seconds later, Mebuki Haruno is standing inside his doorway file ready in hand.

Mebuki is right that this visit was completely different from the one she had with Naruto. Sasuke kept his focus on her with maybe one or two glances at her daughter after introductions. Sasuke seemed more interested in getting them out as soon as possible and isolating himself. Well, that won't do either. Mebuki makes a mental note to make frequent visits to Sasuke's place. According to his file, the last social worker didn't even try to help this boy with his isolation issues. Guess Mebuki will have to go the exposure therapy route. Even if it's in small bursts with her or with her and Sakura, the boy needs some sort of human interaction.

Maybe she can get him and Naruto to hang out one day? Though they may need Sakura there to buffer out the two as a middle man.

So Mebuki got to work. The Academy was currently on a break for two weeks, and Kizashi was currently away on business, so all of her visits she did have to bring Sakura. Naruto liked having her around. Sasuke seemed to tolerate it. Naruto eagerly took to learning from her, whether it's because he was learning with Sakura or Mebuki actually took the time to patiently explain things to him, she wasn't sure. She still had to break into Sasuke's apartment every time, but she actually got that boy to go out into the world even if it was just errands. And he's acknowledgumg Sakura more on the visits even sorta speaking to her. So that's a win in her book.

It was during this time that Mebuki learned the boys were actually in the same class as Sakura in the academy. She knew they all went to the academy but not the same class. This info from Sakura and the information on how they're treated helps Mebuki adjust on what she needs to do with the boys.

"Mama, Naruto, and Sasuke are lonely," Sakura stated to her after one of the visits.

Mebuki nodded. Her daughter was sharp minded. It did not surprise Mebuki Sakura picked up on the boys' loneliness.

"I want to help them."

"Continue being kind to them Sakura," Mebuki instructed. "They both need it, and maybe a friend."

When the academy started again, Mebuki wasn't surprised to hear the kids didn't interact much. The classroom and children themselves have their own social rules they tend to follow. Sakura was also friends with Ino Yamanaka, one of the most popular girls in class. So by proxy, Sakura was in the middle of the social circle, too. Sasuke wouldn't dare get close to it, and Naruto wouldn't have the chance.

What did give Mebuki some surprises was her first time checking in on the boys without Sakura. Kizashi had recently returned home and was gone again with Sakura on a daddy daughter weekend trip. Naruto, being disappointed that his new friend was away, didn't surprise Mebuki much. But it did hurt to think he thought it was because Mebuki or Kizashi didn't want her around him. Surprisingly the boy let Mebuki comfort him saying no they weren't forbidding it, this was just a planned trip before Naruto became Sakura's friend.

"Where's Sakura?"

Sasuke's question would have thrown Mebuki off had it not been for her ninja background. But she had seen the boy slowly warming up to her daughter.

"She's with her father right now."

"Hn."

This gives Mebuki an idea. On Friday afternoon, while children were in school, Mebuki had placed a sealing jutsu on the boys' apartments, one that locks them out. She also left a note saying they are to come over for dinner. After she sends Sakura to go get Naruto while she goes get Sasuke, and Kizashi starts on dinner.

Sasuke was glaring at her when she got to his apartment. "How did you do this?"

Mebuki smiled, with that pout he was trying to hide Sasuke almost looked his age. "Just because I retired being a ninja doesn't mean I still don't know how to use jutsu Sasuke. Now come on we have some things to pick up before dinner."

And that's how Friday dinners started, leading to weekend sleepovers after Mebuki and Kizashi insist that it was too late for the boys to be wondering in the dark. Kizashi's jokester nature warmed Naruto up to him fast and she swore she saw Sasuke smirk once or twice at one Kizashi's awful jokes. After a while Mebuki could stop putting the sealing jutsu on the apartments when the boys just started following Sakura home on Fridays but she kinda wants to see who figures out how to break the jutsu first.

They still don't interact unless they have to in the academy but Mebuki is starting to suspect that's more on the boys wanting this friendship to be private. Sasuke is naturally a private person and Mebuki suspects that Naruto is afraid of the public either turning one of his friends away from him or that they'll be ostracized like he was.

Mebuki knows this is technically crossing some professional boundaries but honestly she does not give a damn. And technically they're over at her house as Sakura's friends. Good luck trying to deny these boys one of their only two friends.

Mebuki can do without the pranks though. Naruto may be the only one the village blames for them but she knows better. That is not Naruto's handwriting and Naruto was never that detailed before.

It was around the time of graduation that Mebuki was starting to become a little worried. She was excited for the kids don't get her wrong but the politics of the whole thing was a pain in the ass. Newly graduated genin in Konoha were pretty much considered emancipated minors. Genin who were wards of the state like Naruto and Sasuke would be aged out of their social workers care. They would then be put on teams based on skillset. Mebuki was worried how well that was gonna work out for the children. The only ones she can see them working well with is one another but likely hood of all of them ending up on the same team was not very high.

Well she might as well start preparing. She'll have three jonin showing up soon. One to talk to the parent of Sakura and two to talk to her as the social worker to Naruto and Sasuke.

Mebuki couldn't help the laugh when she learned that all three meetings would be with Kakashi Hatake. Oh is he gonna have his hands full, she hopes her little brats gives him hell.

I'm imagining after the war team 7 stumbles into the Haruno's house at some point because Mebuki put that same damn sealing jutsu on all of their apartments. Mebuki starts chastising Sasuke like "Where. Have. You. Been?!" like he's a teenager who missed curfew and not a wanted missing ninja for the last three years. Later on when Sasuke and Sakura start traveling together Mebuki and Kizashi have a bet on how many grandchildren they'll have by the time they return and what the genders will be.

Also, just the news. Mans will put on a 24 hour news station and will keep it on for like, 5 days.

He watches Harrison Porter, so give him the joy that is Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.

Boruto Shipping Opinions

I’m gonna put a brief aside here to say two quick things to keep in mind before reading:

I am not going to go into great detail or analysis here because I’m holding off on that until the manga wraps up.

I am caught up with the manga, I am not caught up with the anime. I have watched up until the arc the new team 7 infiltrate a prison, the second chunin exams, and whatever clips/moments I’ve stumbled upon being discussed. I am not an avid fan, I do not know all the ins and outs of character dynamics, and I don’t even keep up with that part of the fandom. I have no horse in this race.

I don’t like this ship, and I don’t know if that’s an unpopular opinion. I’ll try to avoid saying “they have sibling vibes” or “they’re just friends” because, coming from someone who has used that excuse in the past, it is very difficult to explain/defend argument. So much so that now it just comes across as cheap to me.

I will, however, say that I don’t like it for the same reason I don’t like NejiTen. It comes across as “he was a boy, she was a girl. Can I make it anymore obvious?” It feels like it stems from the idea that boys and girls can’t just be friends. If the dynamic was introduced with an edge of romance (like how Naruto and Sakura’s dynamic was introduced with Naruto having a crush on her), maybe it would be a different story. But as of right now, it feels like the fandom reading into something that doesn‘t need to be read into.

I hate to say this, but I’m guessing this ship stemmed from SasuSaku fans reading them as “next gen SasuSaku”. Look, everyone can ship whatever they want or choose to refrain from shipping, but I’m sick of the fandom projecting old ships on new dynamics. I have seen BoruSara compared to SNS, NaruSaku, and SasuSaku (for some reason). I have seen BoruSumi compared to NaruHina. I have seen MitsuSara compared to SasuSaku and SuiKarin. I have seen KawaSara compared to SasuSaku. Every single time I thought to myself, “The manga starts with Boruto asserting that he’s not his dad and this isn’t his dad’s story.” I get that comparisons will naturally arise since it’s a sequel series, but these kids are not carbon copies of their parents and they don’t have the same dynamics their parents did.

Now that my rant is out of the way, I think a hypothetical child between them having black hair with pink highlights would be cute and that’s about it.

MitsuSara

I wish these two had more of a dynamic. Both characters have interactions with Boruto and clear dynamics with him, but they don’t really have much going on with each other. They both have recognizable personalities, but they mellow each other out whenever they interact and it makes them boring (I’m guessing Ikemoto isn’t interested in them together). They also only tend to talk to each other about Boruto (at least in the manga). Say what you want about them, but at least Sasuke and Sakura had a dynamic.

Anyways, funny ha ha, Orochimaru gets an Uchiha in the way they least expected.

Gayer than any of the Naruto dynamics and that is saying something. However, I struggle to like the ship because I’m just so confused.

First, why does Boruto have so many lancer/foil/rival characters. Kawaki, Sarada, and Mitsuki all act as lancers. I get that writing doesn’t have to be formulaic, but they aren’t even all lancers to each other, having dynamics that bounce off of each other, they’re just lancers to Boruto. At least for me, it’s already gotten really boring and ends in the three’s dynamics with each other falling flat.

Second, the sun and moon symbolism makes no sense to me as a writing decision. The obvious problem is that it’s redundant; it’s already been used for multiple Naruto dynamics. The less obvious problem is that it contradicts Mitsuki’s manga introduction. Mitsuki was introduced as the middle between Boruto and Sarada’s two extremes, taking up a role similar to Sakura’s in the og team 7. If he’s supposed to be the moon to Boruto’s sun, why is he introduced to us as the earth? The admittedly more minor problem that distracts me is that Orochimaru was the one that Mitsuki down this road. Why? Orochimaru wasn’t redeemed by Naruto and has never shown interest in him or this philosophy before now. My best guess is that they’re fascinated by Naruto’s affect on Sasuke, but that still leaves me with questions.

It makes me think that the writer didn’t have any ideas when they introduced these two.

I don’t like how the fandom is making another love square, but I doubt there’s anything I can do to stop them.

This ship is boring because Sumire is boring. That one anime arc made her interesting, but it’s referenced and relevant so rarely that she goes back to being boring. I’d like this more if the story let Sumire be morally gray or treated her like a redeemed villain more. As of right now, I think the only leg the ship has to stand on is writing tropes and I do not care.

KawaSumi

This ship feels like the product of the same people who ship SasuHina/SasuIno/SasuKarin/KibaHina out of spite. My last post/reblog went into why this happens but the short of it is that it’s easier to ship something in peace if the biggest “threats” to it are paired together. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I have a feeling most KawaSumi shippers also ship BoruSara.

This is the section for all the ships I have little/no opinions on. I think MitsuCho is too boring for how popular it is, I think ChoSara should be more popular, I’m disturbed by all of the Eida x next gen ships because she looks and acts like an adult (at least how adults are portrayed in Boruto), and I’m surprised Code x Eida isn’t more popular, but I also think that Code has gotten the Kabuto treatment and isn’t very popular in the fandom.

The ships I haven’t mentioned I either have so little fucks to give or so little information on that I have ZERO thoughts about.

kakshi's status as a jinchūriki is a deep, hokage level secret. there are very few people who knows due to the potential destabilising effects of his survival. minato, kushina, jiraiya, sarutobi, and danzō (once sarutobi is back in office) know, but no one else does. as time went on, kakashi did inform gai and, later, tenzō, but those are it. when tsunade is sworn into office, she is informed of kakashi's status too.

related to the above bullet point, naruto isn't informed until he accesses the kyūbi's chakra for the first time, and then kakashi trains with naruto on accessing chakra along with jiraiya. sakura is informed about both kakashi and naruto's status during the timeskip. sasuke is not informed about kakashi's status while still in the village. he finds out later after he joins the akatsuki.

kakashi and isobu get along great because they don't really bother each other. they do snark at each other sometimes, but they've come to an understanding. kakashi rarely uses isobu's chakra, but he does know how to access it safely when he needs to.

kakashi and itachi do not know each other well. kakashi was only in root anbu for like a year and never joined the standard anbu corps. as such, he was never itachi's anbu captain and thus never trained itachi. however, they do know of each other because shisui was the one who watched over kakashi while his chakra control was still messed up and told him about the mangekyō sharingan.

during the time-skip, kakashi still ran a lot of solo s-rank missions, but he had more check-ins than usual due to the akatsuki slowly gaining strength and as they gathered more information to know that they were for sure gathering all of the jinchūriki, information about kakashi got locked down further and he had to check in more and more.

Maybe after a while of constant run ins with Obito and Kakashi (at which point he figures out they are definitely gods). Maybe he asks them for a favor? Like:

Kakashi:... I would be happy to.

Just Kakashi and Obito sometimes delivering letters for Gai, to let his family know he's not dead/ having a wonderful time finding himself. Or would they pawn that task off on someone like Naruto, who I think is the messenger god.

Kakashi would pawn off most messages to Naruto, but Kakashi also has eight hounds who will happily take those messages and who can carry his storms inside of them (enough for one storm but still)

So what i’m saying is…

Kakashi placing a small storm inside of Bull, who’s lightning and thunder is loud but playful, and sending him off to leave a letter from Gai to his family

Gai watching as this huge dog made of pure lightning arrives at Kakashi’s side and happily takes the letter into his mouth and gets really excited when Kakashi touches his back to place a storm inside of him.

Gai’s family will get the letter and a storm, and pretty soon a good playful storm becomes synonymous with Gai’s safety for them

- It's huge.. - It seems that someone was counting on an easy victory. In his style.

- Bo, well, it's also more interesting! About.. And they've already disappeared, that's it!

Menma tried to listen.. But it didn't do much.

- You need to capture the victims and immobilize them. Use the fact that the enemy is familiar to you. The victory is counted if completely! I wish you a good time, we fight in full force. - Haruno disappeared from sight as quickly as the "broken ones".

- Yes, it's difficult! Fi-ine, we need to gather our courage..

The black-haired man was quiet for a while, and then..

- Shadow cloning technique. - Puts a couple of fingers on top of each other, creating several clones. - Two of us quietly comb the area. The third distracts. The fourth and fifth watch from the trees.

- Hey, I actually wanted to participate! - One of the clones appears loudly.

- I recommend you to obey until a replacement is found for you. What are we standing for? Go ahead. Who will yell is subject to immediate replacement. - Menma arrogantly turned around, folding his arms. - Are you going to do something, or will you become a bait?

- You are the bait yourself! Anyway, listen..

..Meanwhile, on one of the trees.

Mitsuki took an observation position, straightening up on a branch. Sarada was sitting next to her, ready for the fact that these two would probably attack in a hurry and the sharingan would have to be activated very quickly.

- Well, well, that's where our guys hid. And I've been looking for you.

Daichi appeared on the branch so unexpectedly that he was almost bumped into right there.

- Whoa, whoa, calm down, I'm out of the game. So, the rest of the rules. You must not allow yourself to be touched by hunters in any known way. Self-defense can be in full force, but do not forget that even in the most perfect armor there is a gap.  That's it, I'm flying away. Have a good game!

He disappeared as quickly as he appeared. But they remembered the rules.

"The game will be very cruel if our hands are completely untied.. Daichi-sama is counting on this," Mitsuki quickly flashed.

- He's going to...

..Meanwhile, already at the house of Day and Mikoto-san.

- ..push them against each other. They must be prepared for the fact that no one will give mercy in a real battle.

Haruno busily sipped tea from a colorful porcelain mug.

- Of course, we are glad that you invited us to discuss the issue of Menma's training at the academy.. But. Such a child should already surpass academic techniques. The boy will die of boredom, especially in the middle of the school year, we will not be able to push him into the team, no matter how much we would like..

Hatake sat opposite with Umino, being invited guests.

- But he's still a kid first of all, Kakashi. And we knew such a thing.. - Iruka has already finished his sake, not wanting anything else.

- We can only agree on that. As soon as Menma woke up, he immediately began to chatter about what he would find and deal with.. Which will be stronger.. Nonsense is nonsense, but he is manic in achieving goals. And I can't leave him on Daichi-kun all the time, he needs freedom too.

Mikoto smiled lightly in her usual manner, and was doing her cooking from the bottom of her heart. There was always something on the stove as soon as the girl appeared at home..

- We will help you. - Kakashi suddenly agreed. - But let's be honest with us.. Uzumaki can lead by the nose as much as you want. But I know only one family who knew so many fire techniques that they can be jonin in this area. Your name is definitely not Kumiko. You are not used to it, and everyone calls you differently within the family..

Day paused in the background babbling. He sighed.

- And Menma, unlike Daichi, respects you. It's definitely not like him, right?

The girl stopped washing the plate to shine.

- I'm not his sister. Is that what you wanted to know? We are really related.

- The Uchiha clan was restricted to your family after the tragedy. And that means..

- So what?

- You own fire on the male line. Isn't that right, Madara?

- WHOOOO? WHEN THEY WERE GOING TO TELL ME ABOUT THIS DATTEBAN'O?!

Probably, Day experienced extreme shock from that.. That he was hitting on a man without knowing about it.

Of course I had nothing against it, but..

- Don't you dare yell at me!

Now Madara, still in a woman's body, with a careless movement dropped the plate exhausted with a stiff sponge, finally breaking it, and, perhaps, Day's hopes along with it.

- I keep all these morons so that they are fed, dressed, and even restored documents from scratch for a month! Can you be at least a little grateful and not bother me seven days a week after some fucking unsafe work with hell?!

- Madara, I... I'm sorry, I didn't know it would hurt you so much. You are usually very calm.

Now Kakashi was even ashamed.

"You're a leaky head, he obviously doesn't look like that out of fun now, he also pressed on a few days off.."

- Well. Yes, you're right. I'm a man. I was just cursed shortly before we found ourselves in Daichi's world. I'm thinking of contacting Sakura-chan. But there is one impressive problem, I could just wait for my sister..

Iruka exhaled, realizing that the situation had become much more tense after what his friend had done.

In addition, the present was pierced in the abdominal region, the removal of the curse is simply unsafe.

The kitchen was filled with suffocating silence.

Number one may be of shock but it was the first movie I remember loving as a kid, and even now, I can watch it in different languages and STILL understand what is going on purely from memory! Now I also didn't include My Hero Academia in this, although I have been obsessed with it lately, and that is purely because I actually have not read or watched it yet! I have gotten my knowledge and love for it through osmosis and fervent research!

Gundam Wing was the first anime that I fell in love with, and Endless Waltz was the first anime movie I watched and bought. Naruto/Shippuden was my first obsession, and the source material for my first fanon Yaoi ship.

The Hobbit was my first full-length novel. I read it in the 4th grade, and after taking a test on it, I got 17/20 questions right, which was a surprise for my teachers!

MDZS and TGCF are the first Danmei/Donghua I got into, and that was literally about 6 months ago!

There are plenty of other media I like. The Magic School Bus was my favorite cartoon growing up. Then there is Emergency (circa 1970's). I like the Alien franchise a lot. Mobile Suit Gundam SEED is another anime I love. I am also a big fan of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives from the Food Network. Card Captor Sakura is good to watch. There are countless others, the ones I listed are simply the most influential ones to the person I am now.

Okay so I am loving your ADJL fanfic and just wanted to ask what inspired this particular version? Was it the original plan for post- homecoming where Rose stays in nyc and dates Nigel?

The idea of this story actually came to me while the show was airing but I never got around to the details of it. I wasn’t sure how to start it. I wasn’t a confident writer at the time. Bits and pieces would come to my mind and I would write it down but I never could find a way to actually convert the idea into a decent story. Believe it or not, it wasn’t until I watched Naruto: Road to Ninja that helped me set the story in motion. I don’t know how but it helped me write the first chapter and from there on I was just typing away.

I always liked AU stories of a show or movie. I found it interesting how people could alter the reality of a show but also still manage to make them go through similar issues as the original universe and adding more depth to their character.

When I saw that in the original script that Rose was going to stay in New York after homecoming and end up dating Nigel, it helped me put together a few missing pieces I needed to complete this story. I didn’t want to characters to go through every single step they went through in the show so the scripts were able to help me add a little twist and give it a more ‘realistic’ appeal.

I also wanted to be able to shed some light to some of the background characters like Courtney (who was Rose’s best friend), Rose’s twin sister (seriously, where’d she go after homecoming?), Marnie, Danika, Kyle, and also characters we’ve since in the show. Even Nigel since we didn’t really learn much about him aside from the fact he’s a wizard in training.

The original characters were actually inspired by some of my friends and family members. They were able to help me give some of them more personalities than just fill-ins.

I'm sorry these took so long, I would've had them finished yesterday BUT I LOST ALL MY WRITING WHEN I WAS AT THE END and that took all my motivation honestly haha. Sorry if these aren't quite what you were looking for, thank you for asking though

This is both the angstiest, softest, and shortest smut I've ever written.

(These are headcanons but honestly they're more than long enough to make a fic so uh...oops)

Madara Uchiha, though he’d deny it, is the type that would fall first. But he’d equate his feelings to only lust in the beginning. He’d see her first, notice her first, and approach first but all with intention.

The era he comes from is heavy with political marriage. His marriage would most likely already be prearranged. But he'd still approach you, a fling between a man and a woman has nothing to do with someone he hasn't met.

He'd call out to you, "Oi," his gruff voice and rude way of speaking would immediately put you off. You would have no idea who he is, not really up to date on all the ins and outs of shinobi. With an annoyed look on your face, you'd ignore him.

But he wouldn't give up, a ninja is one who endures after all. He'd take every opportunity he could find to approach you again, more interested in the challenge you presented then what he had originally intended. Madara would begin to follow you, without him realizing at first, he'd do it in the name of seeking opportunity but eventually it'd just become a habit.

By that point, you'd know who he is, but the game you started was a bit too fun so you'd purposefully ignore him, a sly smile on your face. You liked infuriating a powerful man like him. His attentions would inflate your ego, if only a little. After all, who else could say they were being pursued by the Madara Uchiha?

The more he'd watch you, the more he'd learn about you. He'd smirk when you'd smile, roll his eyes at the lame jokes you'd tell your village's children. Watching your simple life became a bit of a comfort without his knowledge. Going from the bloody battlefield where any one of his comrades, or even himself, could lose their lives at any moment to watching you and your sleepy village made his heart ache.

But when a rogue shinobi clan invaded your home, he admired not only yours but the bravery of your people. Despite being weak, untrained, and lacking in experience he watched as you all faced your enemy head on. You especially, refused to back down. You'd spit in the face of your would be attacker, anger and spite swirling in your eyes like a storm.

Of course, he saw it as the perfect opportunity. At least, that's what he told himself, but his rage at your potential violation was clear as day as he easily tore into the man who had attempted to harm his property. The rest of that clan were like flies, buzzing around and destroying what was his. He took care of them all.

His anger only mounted when he saw the red irritation marks on your wrists and neck, like proof of his inability to protect you. He'd take your wrist in his own, the sheer difference in size and strength furthering his wrath. What kind of shinobi preyed on such weaklings? Where was their pride? Their sense of honor?

"Thank you," your quiet voice gave him pause. "For saving me."

His grip on your wrist would tighten, his chest uncomfortable. One look from your eyes was enough to placate him and he hated it. How could some helpless girl hold so much sway over him? He was getting too close, he had to fix it. Place some distance before he did something he'd regret.

Congrats on 1K!!! What an amazing feat!!

I wanted to request the 2nd option, a romantic fic with the maradures era. I go with she/her pronouns and would be liked to be matched up with a guy pls!

There are a lot of things I like.

A few years ago I used to be really timid and pessimistic, but with the help of my family and friends I got to grow out of my shell and improved a lot since then.

I can now stand up for myself when I feel like I've been wronged, I can also be okay with myself when I make a mistake and I am more into self care and treating myself than before. Now I have a optimistic view of the world, I like to view myself as a bit of a sunshine person now.

Of course everyone has their off days, their relapses and I'm no different, but I do think I'm getting better at handling those burst of negative emotions.

I love music, love to listen to all types of genres and I play the violin myself. I think of music as a universal language, where I can feel connected, expressive and warm.

I also love to read, I haven't picked up a book in a while but I'm reading a series right now and am beginning to fall in love again! The same thing goes with playing videogames, I've picked up a few and falled in love with it. I wish to keep up these hobbies.

Anime also does this to me, I have a deep connection with anime, as I've seen it with my family and hold great meaning to me. Especially Naruto since I watched the whole series with my brother. I get goosebumps watching an anime close to heart and smile my hardest when I hear the music.

I care deeply for my friends, hope the best in their lives. However, i do have a problem of comparing myself to them and their great feats and at times envy overcomes me. I know this projects my insecurities but I'm getting better at become more confident in myself and learning to be proud of myself.

Sports are my outlet, my main one being soccer and I've also wrestled and played rugby. I can forget about the stress of school and other personal stuff when I'm on the field and mat. For some reason I love contact sports, the exhaustion that comes with it and the reward that comes after is so satisfying.

I also love to make jokes, I cannot live a live without laughers and jokes to the point of crying. I love to tease my friends, be stupid and have fun. I believe that what life is for, enjoyment and laughter and bliss.

i think sirius would find your shyness endearing. he wouldn't mind moments when you were quiet, but he'd also be really proud of you in moments where you confidently carried yourself. he'd protect you if he needed to, but he'd be so much more proud to see you stand up for yourself. he'd love a girl with a little bit of bark, and he'd be very amused watching you put people in their place. but he'd also equally enjoy putting someone else in their place if he needed to. he'd never want you upset or uncomfortable, and would do whatever he could to make you feel good.

sirius knows better than anyone that there are some days where you wake up and can already tell its going to be a rough day. he'd really appreciate that youd be a support system for each other when one of you woke up feeling bad. and he'd also really love that you're an optimist. i think sirius has a really good heart, but he'd be more of a pessimist than an optimist. live has just made him that way. your optimism would give him hope.

sirius LOVES music. he'd be so excited that you're just as passionate about it as him. he'd really love that you're passionate about the things close to you, because he cares about music more than almost any hobby he has. he connects to it on a deep emotional level, and would really value you doing the same.

sirius cares about his friends more than he cares about himself. he'd do anything and everything for them, and would appreciate that you'd do the same. he'd notice when you felt a little insecure in the group, knowing you compared yourself to some of your friends. he'd make it a point to tell you that you were every bit as good as them, and that you were just as valued, if not more. he'd never want you to feel less than.

sirius could die a happy man knowing you liked sports. just like he and james put their all into quidditch and use it as an outlet, you'd do the same. seeing as you like sports, you'd of course go to every game that he was in. it would fill him with pride to see you in the stands, cheering him on.

jokes and pranks are one of sirius's favorite things in the world. humor is one of his little joys. being stupid with each other and enjoying each other's company would be his favorite. you'd tell jokes back and forth, laughing so hard until your stomachs hurt and tears were rolling down your faces.

in your downtime, sirius would have quidditch practice. he'd come back to the common room where you were reading while waiting for him, instantly easing as he sees you.

"did you have a good practice, love?" you'd ask, putting down your book.

he'd nod, humming. "yeah, it was good. i'm tired, though."

he'd dramatically flop onto the couch, laying his head in your lap. you'd smile down at him, taking his hand in yours.

"where's james?" you'd ask, making him grin.

"may or may not have hexed his broom to fly around the pitch. i expect he's still out there trying to catch it."

you playfully slapped his arm, although you couldn't stifle your chuckle. "sirius! that's not funny. what did he do to deserve that?"

"he nicked my stash of choclate frogs!'

you nodded, amused by his enthusiasm. "i see. so it was totally justifiable, then?"

he'd squeeze your hand, settling further into your lap. "now you're getting it, love."

Noragami Review

This month, as part of YAMA’s anime exchange, I was assigned Noragami. Its a series that I remember seeing a lot of back in middle school, probably because that’s when it came out. Hell, I bet a few people like me even remember that math teacher who put one of the anime’s characters in a math problem! Still, when I was told I’d be watching this series, I was hopeful. I didn’t know much, but I had a feeling I was going to like it. After watching all 12 episodes, though, I can say the result isn’t exactly what I’d hoped.

Noragami is a short anime following a highschool girl named Hiyori, who gains the ability to separate from her body after saving a minor god from getting hit by a truck. Their fates become entwined, as she tags along with the god on his various jobs, learning about the conflicts he faces and the monsters he fights. Along the way, they are joined by a third friend, Yukine, who acts as the god Yato’s living weapon. Together, the three help out wayward people and fight Phantoms, evil creatures that can influence humans in negative ways. 

What stands out the most about this series is the characters themselves, and the dynamic they share. Its a rare case of a main trio, who are all given equal screentime and storylines. We’ve certainly come a long way from shows like Naruto, as it seems that finally, girls are just as important as boys. Hiyori, the half-Phantom highschooler, is given a lot more respect than I expected going into this series. Most shonen anime rely on a virgin-whore dichotomy to characterize their women, dis-allowing them from being anything more than love interests or side characters. Here, though, there’s quite a lot of depth put into the female lead, as well as other female characters. Hiyori isn’t just a girly girl whose only personality traits are liking boys and being a push-over. She actually helps her friends a lot, and can hold her own in a fight. This is quite refreshing, and as a woman, I really appreciate seeing it.

Hiyori’s story is one that I wish was spent more time on, though. When we first meet her, she’s an ordinary highschool student, one with a pair of friends and a passion for pro wrestling. After meeting Yato, though, Hiyori’s regular life is abandoned, barely shown despite her still living it. It would’ve been nice to see how her life has to change now that she is involved with gods and phantoms. Many times in the series, Hiyori feels like Yato’s groupie, just tagging along on his adventures and commentating on whatever she sees. Sure, having her as an audience stand-in is a great way to acclimate the audience to all the ins and outs of this world, but more often than not, Hiyori remains an outsider looking in, standing back as Yato and Yukine handle enemies. 

What holes in the story Hiyori leaves, Yato and Yukine pick up the slack for. Those two are wildly entertaining, to the point where I wish they were in a different, longer series. Yato, in particular, is hilarious. The perfect mix of confident and respectful, Yato is a perfect fit for the role of a minor god who nobody cares about. He refuses to be one-note, always revealing new things about himself in each episode. One second he’s an expert on cleaning tiles, the next he’s a sketch artist. His dramatic fantasies of fame and fortune are equally entertaining, giving audiences a view of how he sees himself while also emphasizing how un-cool he is now. He’s a character with clear goals, and isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty if it means getting one step closer to his shrine.

However, this series wasn’t exactly what I had hoped going into it. What struck me as odd immediately was how short it is. Only 12 episodes? After watching it all, its clear that time is the most glaring issue with this series. It quickly rushes past the moments of characters getting to know each other and discovering their world, and right to action. Hiyori, Yato, and Yukine become friends so quickly, that it feels jarring to see them all buddy-buddy when they’ve basically just met.

This goes double for character arcs, like Yukine’s. Yukine’s arc is all about him grappling with his own death, and having to live outside of human society as Yato’s assistant. However, this is basically only conveyed through his occasional bad behavior, such as stealing money that was supposed to be donated, or stealing a skateboard. The series tries to convey that he acts out because he feels alone, but it waits until it’s nearly over to explain this. His actions up until episode 10 could easily be explained as being teenage angst, but only when he smashes the windows of a highschool in a fit of rage does it become clear that it is something deeper. His inner turmoil is far more complicated than just being a ‘bad kid’, so it would’ve been nice to see it discussed more than just near the end. 

Overall, Noragami isn’t terrible. The animation is good, at times even really pretty. The characters are very entertaining, and enjoyable to watch interact. However, the show’s short length is made more detrimental by it’s lack of focus, choosing to introduce dozens of side characters instead of spend more quality time with the ones that are already there. The opening is fantastic, if you were curious. Its a nice anime, and I’m sure other people enjoy it a lot more than I did, but I just wish it was longer. Then, hopefully, the issues it has would’ve been solved.

i haven't seen an inability on the part of fan artists to draw fat people outside of this patently unrealistic uniform roundness in my primary fandom, thankfully. i'm also not sure i'd characterize all the fat serizawa fanart i see as fetishistic, either.

though i understand the discomfort around fattening up japanese characters for art's sake when japan's obesity rate is so low (~7.5% of the population), and often take issue with applying one's own cultural lens across the board? here, i cannot relate.

many of the reasons for that statistic are healthy ones, like:

cultural norms around not overeating (the 腹八分 or hara-hachi-bun principle—eating until 80% full—being one example);

the normalization of walking everywhere;

excellent public transit;

exercise breaks in schools and in workplaces, etc.

some of them are not:

the harsh shaming of children, especially girls, for gaining even small amounts of weight;

annual workplace weigh-ins and government-levied penalties on companies with too many overweight staff.

members of my weekly anime binge-watch group have expressed justified discomfort with how fat people are depicted sometimes in the shows we watch, if they appear at all. i've started to take notice more myself: for every neutrally stout or fat character (keiichi ikari, paranoia agent) in my own watching, there's a frickin' skinny female character distressed about the possibility of gaining a kilo or two (koyomi mizuhara and tomo takino, azumanga daioh; sakura haruno and ino yamanaka from naruto). or a fat otaku dude who is relentlessly bullied until he loses the weight, or a fat character whose size is played for laughs.

anime is not always an accurate reflection of japanese culture, but character beats like these are dropped in without comment... in much the same way american media treats 'engagement' as just part of the marriage process, or show characters going out of their way not to visit doctors for whatever reason. it's not worth commenting on precisely because it IS common.

so i can understand why americans in particular do this. fatness is not rare here, but savaging and disrespect of fat people is customary anyway, and our media still depicts them as outliers. i cannot blame american fan artists for pushing back against all this culturally-encouraged self-hate and showing fat as something wonderful and worthy of appreciation too; perhaps this reads like fetishization to non-americans.

fandom problem: this is a very small thing, but americans drawing anime characters fat because they feel like it’s “more realistic”…when said characters are japanese and japan has a much lower obesity rate than america. on top of that, the way fatness is talked about in fandom spaces feels almost creepy and fetishizing?
