What is it with like white women and using indigenous designs as their own and the obsession with turquoise? Like genuinely so curious you’re just whitewashing it.

“America has no culture” is an inherently racist statement. Especially when talking about California, which has enormous populations (yes, plural) of Hispanic and Asian immigrants.
It’s such a self report that you see the American hegemony, the American monolith, as a singularly white entity that’s worthy of scorn. I want that person to look at the Black American NYC Miku design and tell me with their full chest that that isn’t culture. Especially when modern pop culture owes so much to Black American culture — hip hop, language, streetwear and fashion, pop music, jazz — as is actively erasing their roots, saying all of America has no culture is a dumbass statement.
Also, “all the US Mikus are dressed in generic casual street style for coolish weather.” The original Brazilian Miku is wearing sunglasses, a crop top, short shorts, a bikini, and flip flops you absolute dunce. If you’re gonna be rude at least be consistent.
#not even to mention indigenous folks#personal#delete later#obligatory I don’t like the us I’m not a patriot#but saying this is like saying us doesn’t have it’s own food#TELL ME you’ve never had soul food without telling me you’ve never had soul food#‘we’re not talking about poc Americans though white Americans have no culture’ does my Miku design look white to you.#I think that account got dusted overnight but if they’re still here I’m not surprised if they make a#qualifying backtracking ‘what I meant was’ statement#hey maybe next time if you have a point to make don’t come out the gate swinging like an asshole and yell big generalizing claims

waking up from surgery🩸
the memory i have of it is so vivid & i'll never forget it as long as i live - i remember slowly coming into being, huffing in and out rapidly, feeling fire on my chest and crying all at once. it felt literally like i was finally newly born, like my life before was just in gestation.
happy pride month!

Tipua: the wrath of Ngārara...
...has just hours to go and is around $1000 NZ/$600 USD from its funding goal!
Support indigenous TTRPG design and get access to a cool spin on the Fate system in the process. The game and its setting are steeped in tikanga and te ao Māori: Tipua is set on the distant planet of Karito—a vast, labyrinthine world where tangled rivers wind through swampy wetlands, shadowy forests, ancient pā (fortification sites), and the mysterious portals known as Ngā Pūmotomoto. For those of you who have experienced the wonders of Aotearoa and Te Wai Pounamu, you will see some obvious similarities.
It's so affordable too. $20 NZ (about 12 USD) nabs you the digital rulebook and printable custom Fate tokens, as well as a social media shout out and access to the backers discord.
If nothing else: please have a read of the Kickstarter and share this post around! Not long to go and it would amazing if this awesome Māori-led team could reach their funding goal.

When it comes to textured hair there’s many styles, here some I’ve seen at powwows. Braided locs have to be my favorite style so far 💖
(Edit)- i didn’t communicate this very well but this is a merging of cultures. Culturally/traditionally no we didn’t have cornrows/locs these are black hairstyles, and then mixed with our hairstyles because of the influence of Afro indigenous people (the two braids)💖 having two braids for some regalia is very important and so these are hairstyles I’ve seen Afro natives wear for powwows. Not saying two pigtails are just a native thing but cultural context is important
Reminder braids are not a universal hairstyle between tribes! I’m coming from the perspective of Great Plains tribes. I just thought I might share what braided hair means to my community and people. I see people trying to make ocs or redesigns of characters who are native but don’t actually represent us too good. Reminder to always research a tribe before making a character learn their protocols and at least try to learn something new! 🌸💖🍇
I just wanna say I love our hair! It means so much to us please take care of it🥺💖

☕🐇 Go ahead and take a sip!! (Magnet available)
This design was a concept that I've been working on for a while now!! It's gone through a few different phases and drafts, but I think I'm pretty happy with how it turned out!! I'd like to do similar designs with other drinks too, like tea!

Character + pet (I guess former pet) assignment for school
Reclusive Museum archivist scarifies dead dog to a dead god as a lest resort, dead god is so delighted by this that he decides to use the dog as a vessel and torment the poor guy for offerings. So he ends up having to go on some wacky adventure through the underworld to get his dog back.

Re-design of my tribes flag, thoughts?
Did this just for fun, and also because I thought our original flag is kind of ugly. I like the seal, but a flag shouldn’t be a seal slapped onto a rectangle, especially with just our name at the top in bold white.
CGP grey taught me better than that.
So here we are.
Explanation for everything:
The large eagle in the middle is there because eagles are very important to my tribe, messengers of prayer. We also own an eagle sanctuary for injured birds and distribute their sacred feathers.
The fire has two meanings, one for our name and role, Fire Keepers/People of the Place of the Fire, and the fire has seven points for the seven fires prophecy. (A very important part of our tribals history migrating across turtle island)
The eagle has a three pointed crest on their chest, one for each tribe in the three fires council that makes up the Nishnabe
The crest is in a circle, not just as a reference to the original seal but also for our dancing circles at powwows.
And finally the boarder is a medicine wheel for the four directions, seasons and sacred medicines.
Thank you for reading!!
