I was flipping through my journal and came across a conversation with Loki from 10/14, and some of their words feel extremely poignant post-election. The conversation was about a personal matter, but their words are very easily applied in this post-election context. I've editted this a little in order to remove my words and change minor details to recontextualize things, with Loki's permission, of course. These were their words:
Independence is a funny virtue. Celebrating one's individuality is an important and beautiful thing. But independence, separation from community, is not. Independence isn't a virtue. It is quite possibly a death sentence, particularly in your current society. It's bullshit... Remember that you are stronger together than you are apart. Even if you need your own space, you still need each other. You still need support as all humans do. We are never truly independent. That's something all of you need to accept... Show everybody that (that cultural framework) needs to change. Show them there is a better way to do things. Live a life true to yourself and your values, and find your community that will support you how you need it... If I could stop the world from spinning, if it would help you, I would. But I can't, unfortunately. You know you have to deal with certain things yourself. No one truly heals your wounds but you*. Others, like myself, just help fill some gaps or provide tools or that last little push you need to get you there. Try approaching (things) from a new perspective and see what will start clicking into place. I just might be what's missing - that final puzzle piece waiting to be connected.
Fortify your relationships with each other, shield your communities, and remember that Loki is here.
I'm not sure what else to say, but do with that what you will.
*"You" as in humanity

"Happy 17th of May!! ✨🇳🇴"
To all my mutuals who enjoy my culture and norwegian friends out there, happy birthday from the Loki fam who are all celebrating Norway's independence day!!
For context on why exactly we do celebrate: Norway declared independence as it's own kingdom, seperate from danmark and Sweden with the constitution that was signed on 17th of May in 1814.
The constitution was an attempt to avoid being ceased by Sweden after the defeat of Denmark-Norway in the Napoleonic Wars.
Hip hip hurra! 🎉🎊🍾 (≧∇≦)/

Wait I thought Loki season 2 is getting good reviews everywhere, could you cite some examples?
I really can’t stand what they did with Loki in season 1 and it still feels the same..
Here are a couple of examples that I found. Basically, the general complaints are that the show isn’t focused around Loki, it’s filled with way too much exposition about the multiverse and timelines, and Loki is boring and completely unrecognizable from his previous appearances… which, again… did y’all watch S1??? This isn’t new. Also a decent number of reviewers are clowning on the show for basically becoming a McDonald’s commercial (and rightfully so)

Media Obsessions 2023!
Tedependent
What is it that finally convinced me to get a Tumblr? The soccer show! And what a ride we went on. Trent confirmed gay! Trent’s little “It’s going to work!!!” That time James Lance told us Trent absolutely had a crush on Ted!
Tumblr media
Good Omens
I was looking through all my posts about the trailers and marketing before season 2 came out. Such innocent excitement. I had no idea of the pain that would follow. It was a pleasure to be in pain with you. Looking forward to season 3!

Our Flag Means Death
What a delightful season! The fandom ended up a little contentious but I enjoyed the show throughly.

Loki
How dare the MCU get me this obsessed with a show in 2023? My most popular post this year was about how I was absolutely not planning to care about this ship and yet here I am. Mobius risked his SKIN for Loki. They went on a PIE DATE. They rode a TANDEM BIKE. Don kept telling Loki he’s a SINGLE DAD. Loki BECAME A TREE FOR THE LOVE OF HIS LIFE AAAAAA

Looking forward to more hyperfixations in 2024!

i told my partner recently that i don’t like alien movies very much and this jackass has the gall to tell me all my favorite movies are alien movies
cue us devolving into a fight about the differences between alien movies and space operas
this is what ten years together looks like. it’s fucken great
(if you were curious imo an alien movie is a movie that focuses on aliens bein aliens. a space opera is a movie or other form of media that focuses on people who just happen to be aliens/in space. also i am right and will not be taking criticism on this)

Loki: Listen, I know he is stubborn, responsible for multiple atrocities, and a danger to himself and our larger society. But have you ever considered that Thor is tiny, sad, and I love him? Have you considered that he deserves to indulge in hobbies and playtime? Have you considered he deserves naps and cuddles?

When it comes to horny art esp in FEH like. I'm always split between "I don't wanna be sex negative and prudish that's stupid" and "Okay but there IS a misogyny problem (specifically about how female characters are portrayed/treated)" and "I'm Sorry Women (I do like huge titties and stupid slutty outfits)" and "I'm a huge anatomy nerd and what's pissing me off the most are the shit proportions here actually"
^ This user is on the asexuality spectrum.
#i don't wanna start discourse about it LMFAOOO it's just. the motions i am constantly going through#i think there is a difference between official artwork that is essentially a product being sold to you#vs independent artists who regardless of it they're selling their art. somehow there's a difference there#like i think horny/fetish art is so fucking important and worth protecting/going to bat for#esp the joker voice Society. cannot fucking take myself seriously LMFAOO BUT#idk idk. head empty. there's probably something there though.#i'm just stuck on an endless loop about it whenever something like a loki incident happens LMFAOOOO#that said though if any feh artist gives sharena an extremely sexualized alt i WILL have to kill them in cold blood.#and then the loop keeps fucking going like. it needs to be tasteful. she can be attractive. but it needs to be tasteful#and then the loop KEEPS GOING. like ohhh are you adsigning morality to art?? I DON'T THINK SO?????#i'm just devastingly demisexual about everything like. i love loki's new alt bc all things considered#it suits her. you can argue about the merit of Creating A Chara like her. but like. grah another endless loop#but it would NOT suit sharena#she would be SO uncomfortable. she would probably be found in the bathroom crying about it.#and then there's more complicated situations like plumeria.#i think her ny alt suits her v well. she is the elegant type. i am going to kill whoever made her summer alt.#and that's coming from a guy who's FAVORITE ALTS. ARE THE SUMMER ALTS#idk idk. i am incomprehensible even to myself.

It has come to my attention there is a company selling statues of me in holiday garb. Though the entire outfit is not something I would wear, the thought of millions of Midgardians having statues of me is… enticing.

Burn it Down, Easy... Hope is Hard
The second season of the Marvel series Loki presents an interesting theological perspective. The Time Varience Authority (TVA) is a temporal institution that has the amazing responsibility of protecting the timeline of the universe. A redeemed villain turned hero, Loki, has the unique role of convincing his still villainous varient, Sylvie, to have hope.
Tumblr media
Like most institutions, the TVA has been corrupted. The question is, do we destroy the corrupted institution, burn it down as Sylvie proposes, or do we dare to hope that good people can reform it?
Institutions like our government or church can go through moments where individuals or groups twist the mission of the institution to serve their own purpose. These institutions can let us down, but do we burn it down or hope that it can be reformed. Loki, our redeemed villain, dares to hope.
Tumblr media
This chat brings up the way many Americans consider their relationship and role with our present government and political system. Some people are ready to burn it down. The spirit of insurrection continues to exist within a segment of our population as they push to support their candidate and hijack congress with an uncompromising minority. As a result, many have also expressed frustration and a loss of hope in the political system. These voices have no intention to vote because they do not believe in the system.
I do not believe the majority of us are ready to burn the system down or quit it altogether. I believe that many of us are willing to hope for its future. We just need to act on it and support those who have a vision for our future in the midst of the chaos. It is easy to voice Sylvie's position, it's easy to complain and destroy. But Loki (and the Christian faith) calls to do the difficult thing and dare to hope and reform the system itself so it can serve the fundamental good it was suppose to do.
Our systems are based on the notion of the social contract, an ethical system known as contractarianism.
In moral theory, we find theories of right conduct in which the idea of a social contract figures centrally in that right conduct is determined by principles of cooperation that all individuals, suitably motivated, could agree upon. (Timmons, pg. 242)
With this system in mind we may want to reevaluate poltical and religious systems to consider how the community that they serve may reorganize this relationship. Loki strikes me as one who is interested in having this discussion and those of us who are enaged moderates may need to again reappreciate this moral framework that helps us define these systems and make them relevant.
What Loki discovers, at the end, is that to reform these institutions we might have to sacrifice ourselves in the process. Terrorist and insurrectionist are willing to destroy systems and institutions for their own self-serving sense of power. Reformers and activists, on the other hand, must be willing to sacrifice much to change these institutions in order to serve the broader community. This is a perfect message for Veteren's day weekend. In protecting "Life, Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness" Loki learns that we must "mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor." This is something that terrorist and insurrectionist don't seem to understand.
Christian are a people of hope. Yes, trying to fix a broken system is hard. Negotiating a renewed social compact respecting individual liberty while promoting the common good of all is hard. Yet, that is what we are called to do. Let’s take Loki’s lesson to heart as we consider our role and responsibilities to the institutions we have.
