Juneteenth (officially Juneteenth National Independence Day) is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. Deriving its name from combining June and nineteenth, it is celebrated on the anniversary of the order by Major General Gordon Granger proclaiming freedom for enslaved people in Texas on June 19, 1865 (two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued). Originating in Galveston, Juneteenth has since been observed annually in various parts of the United States, often broadly celebrating African-American culture. The day was first recognized as a federal holiday in 2021, when President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act into law after the efforts of Lula Briggs Galloway, Opal Lee, and others.
The punch nazi post reminded me of how badly things have been forgotten.
I grew up going fishing with an SS soldier as a child. He would take us to the beach and sit and drink. When he got drunk he would start to angrily mutter in German. He knew I was a Jew. But his grandkids liked me. I went fishing with this man until I was like 8-10 where I dropped a fish, he was very drunk at this point and he yelled you stupid kike you're good for nothing" then continued to rant in german as elder two of his grandchildren told me it was just an accident. I didn't know what "kike" meant. I always thought I heard it wrong. But after that fishing trip I never saw him again. I did not find out he was a SS soldier until after he died. I didn't know "kike" was a slur for Jews until highschool...
If you think the Jews deserve it, does a young child deserve to be yelled at and called slurs?
The leftists would have never actually punched a nazi anyways, lets be real, they act real tough behind a keyboard but probably couldn't throw a punch let alone handle a good right hook.
They keep saying "my rights! My rights!" While they support a terrorist government that gives its citizens no rights, no freedoms.
I saw a comment "if they didn't have to deal with a war they would be protesting"
. . .
False, they cannot protest, they cannot go against the government.
Queer people for Palestine is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. All the openly gay Palestinians either live in Israel or are dead.
One college is mad the campus is using drones for facial recognition to find the people responsible for over 60k in damage to the school and property. They are just mad that they are going to get caught and be known now. Pathetic.
I hate this country.
"we remain unbiased" bullscat! You give in to any demands on the pro Palestine/ terrorists yet ignore the fear in the Jewish community, and the community itself.
The local university agreed to some very uncomfortable things...
So I've been thinking. It's funny how enjoying meta is somewhat embedded with trust.
Like, if you're "friends" and have followed a person for a long time, you have more a sense of their values, and it's easier to read their difficult meta because you trust more that they're being charitable/nuanced.
If you don't know them, it's harder to trust that they're not funneling difficult topics into rationalization of liking/supporting gross shit.
Maybe this is just a White People(tm) thing-- and none of you better come at me because a) I am a White People and b) even if I weren't, it's a fucking valid criticism--
Why is it that Gen X and older are so fucking hard to get assistance from? Like, "hey I've been super ill and am struggling to do basic self-care on top of my job can you be an extra pair of hands for 2-4hrs tops to help me throw stuff into boxes" is apparently a tall enough ask that every older adult in my life has tiptoed around just outright saying "no." But the second I ask my brother, who is an older Millennial, he's like "oh yeah sure, do you have a plan? You do? Great, I'll see when I can come over. ... Is Wednesday good? Awesome, I'll be there." EIGHT MONTHS of asking people and I should've just gone to my brother in the first place.
The fuck is up with that???? Like, I'm not even sorting stuff, or asking people to haul large furniture. I just cannot logistically do this alone and a second pair of hands for ONE SATURDAY tossing shit at random into boxes is all I ask. And I just wonder-- is this a generational thing or is this a White People/Generational thing? FFS.
EDIT: I ask if it's a White People Thing because I am well aware of many WASP and WASP-adjacent American cultural habits and that not everyone else does them. And I don't want to sit here and blame All Gen Xers and Boomers either. It is just... absolutely wild to me. Dealing with Millennials on the whole is so much easier than dealing with the general populace of older white folk and the older I get the less patience I have for all their stupid bullshit.
Notice how they never said they wanted the government to hand them things. But they just wanted to CREATE their OWN life the way they wanted to.
That’s the prob Ken with people who support communism and socialism is that they think money is the issue and it’s not and what you give up is your independence!
Donald Trump was so furious at Jimmy Kimmel’s mockery of him, he wanted to censor the late night show host after just one year into his presidency, according to a report.
The former president directed his White House staff to call one of Disney’s top executives to pressure Kimmel to dial back on anti-Tump humour in 2018, two former Trump administration officials told the Rolling Stones.
The “severity of Mr. Trump’s fury” was conveyed in at least two separate phone calls to executives of Disney, owner of ABC which airs Jimmy Kimmel Live!, it said.
A former Trump official said Mr. Trump felt the talk show host had been “very dishonest and doing things that [Trump] would have once sued over” in his jokes about him.
“I do not know to who[m], but it happened. Nobody thought it was going to change anything but DJT was focused on it so we had to do something…It was doing something, mostly, to say to [Trump], ‘Hey, we did this,’” another official said.
The Trump White House staff reached out to former Disney top lobbyist Richard Bates, who passed away in December 2020.
Mr. Trump who was impeached for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress has announced his campaign for a second presidential term in 2024. Despite his impeachment, a string of lawsuits and investigations, Mr. Trump has said “he is entitled to a revenge tour” if he wins but he would not do that.
It was not the first time it has emerged that Mr. Trump ordered a crackdown on those criticising him. In 2018, Ajit Pai, former chair of the Federal Communications Commission, said the agency was investigating a joke made about Mr. Trump and Vladimir Putin’s relations by Late Show host Stephen Colbert. The FCC eventually declined to move forward with the case.
The thing that gets me about having to live at home for the foreseeable future—Section 8 waiting lists are closed indefinitely—is that no matter whether I’m with my mom or my dad, nothing is walkable/within powerchair distance. I can’t go anywhere on a whim by myself, for free, like I could on campus. I have to a) pay $20-40 for an Uber both ways, and that’s if the distances within places are short enough to go without my chair; b) ask a family member to drive me; or c) use paratransit, which requires advance scheduling.
It’s the isolation of being both a wheelchair user and unable to drive in America’s able-bodied, car-centric infrastructure which has me in despair.
As much as I hate current Disney and what they are doing, I don't like it when people try to do revisionist history or misinterpretations of the classic movies just for the sake of sticking it at Disney. Those movies were made by people with a passion for storytelling and art. I won't allow people to slander them just because they hate what Disney is doing nowadays. Keep them out of this mess.
the byIer fandom really is a hivemind bc every time i think i came up with a cool fic idea i'll eventually see posts or fics from other writers spring up showing tht we all had the same exact idea down to even the same exact nitty-gritty details and headcanons for them without ever interacting with each other at all. like... bro. 💀 We're Connected..
