#its so weird. i feel like march 5th went on for more than a day somehow. i guess that's just bc we were awake for just abt all of it#my dad wanted to start doing things immediately so he was calling and scheduling all day. we went to the funeral home we went to the store#and it was weird bc as we were moving around it was like wow we r a 4 person family now. this is it. and theres so much to do after a person#dies. or at least there is when they were loved so much and jesus christ my mom was one of the best ppl a LOT of ppl knew. she did so much#for so so many ppl. and with her childhood she had every reason to b a fuck up but no she was kind and selfless and amazing. her mother is#trying to bask in the attention of her death when its like: truely go fuck urself. her being such a good person has nothing to do with u. u#treated her appallingly. fuck off. and fucking everyone knows it. god. she is a product of her grandparents kindness. and it sounds like her#dad was amazing like her. but he tragically died in a car wreck when she was 3. she was in the car. no one in my mums family believes in a#god now. too many bad things happened to the shining gems in a collection of wild alcoholics. but its not all bad. my family's staying close#my dad is taking it hard bc this means hes alone now and my mum took care of so many things bc she was so smart and he feels so dumb. he#feels he didnt deserve her. hes working on giving more hugs now. and hes using us to anxiously talk things out the way he did with mom#which is good. i cant imagine if this happened when we werent 3 adults and he was windowed with 3 kids to raise himself. and its funny. were#saying things we never would have told her. we looked thru pictures of her and she was so so beautiful. a total smoke show. my parents were#a cute couple who produced cute kids. and my mom had trouble communicating and being affectionate tho we knew she loved us there was#distance. theres a pic of my dad pulling her close and shes being tippef towarf her while standing away and thats indicitive of their#relationship. they were 2 partners who lived together independently and that worked but its sad bc my mum couldnt b vulnerable in her#expression. ppl r being so kind tho. ill be in ohio now for like 2.5 more weeks as the funeral stuff shakes out. we have to have 2 bc she#grew up away from her and so many ppl loved her in both locations. she was a popular lady. its so weird to b here on pause. but i feel clear#in my head. i think this will change a lot of my outlook on life. its nice to focus on the person she was and not the horrible 12hrs where i#saw her half dead. i cant imagine how awful it was for my sisters and dad to see her downslide into death. she didnt expect this to b The#Fever that killed her but it did and now she'll never finish a million things. and the house is full of pill bottles and all her junk and#unopened amazon packages and a truck with the fuel left on empty. bc she was an absent minded goofball. ay. well miss her so much#unrelated

'jiang cheng would like a strong woman' have you considered she would probably not like him
#if a woman who demands to be treated by respect/maturity/communication meets jc it would be over before it begins#if she has a low tolerance for being yelled at mocked etc. etc. well you can see how short it'll be. even personalized gifts he failed at#he has so much to work on. the only exception is if she likes hot messes I guess and she doesn't mind being yelled at#OR if she wanted to study him like a bug. if she truly sweeps in take control of LP and starts issuing orders#AND likes jc for whatever reason. maybe THAT could work. but it HAS to be a good reason it cannot be 🥺🥺🥺 he had a sad life#or thinks his inability to communicate is sexy or whatever. man idk. I feel like any woman with the independence to choose#would see the red flags immediately and gtfo. as a sect leader he has so much authority. his wife wld possibly bein a rly dangerous positio#actually we have canonical evidence. hi wq. in a lifetime of being legendary your refusal to marry this guy#even tho it meant you'd die a starving enemy of the state is up there as one of the best <3 rest in peace#and yes living a short happy life with wn and granny and a-yuan and wwx and her family#WAS more gratifying and better for her than a long and probably miserable life being jc's obligation wife while he awkwardly does his best#to be a good husband. and fails. because I mean. he needs help and a wife is not gonna fix him. also her family and wwx are dead :/#however our girl made her choice and was spared that fate love and light rest in peace#not that she made it for herself like we know she did it for her family. but I imagine she was like WHEW dodged a bullet there#cql txp

its lowkey sad living in a bad neighborhood. as you grow up the neighborhood gets worse, and well you realize how bad it always was. you witness the spark of the community slowly fading away as you grow up because everyone's just struggling. you cant pass by your previous peers and classmates at least once after years, even the ones who lived close by, because theyve all moved away to the (slightly) better parts of the neighborhood or out of the neighborhood. most of the fun times you get is not in even the neighborhood but only hours away from it, because of the lack of community and events going on here. theres a point that you feel so stuck because youre used to an environment that doesnt have much opportunities as other ones but its hard moving on because you can see or remember the remains of the love and community that was once there. occasionally theres attempts at trying to bring back the community but sometimes you think is it even worth it and will it be like years ago? most likely not. Its complicated and sad and over the years i just feel so angsty about it this

Why Are Senior Care Communities Important?
As our loved ones age, ensuring their well-being and happiness becomes a priority for families. Senior care communities play a vital role in providing not only a safe living environment but also a supportive and enriching community. Here are several reasons why these communities are essential:
1. Safety and Security
Senior care communities offer a secure environment tailored to the needs of older adults. With features such as emergency response systems, secure entry points, and staff trained to handle medical emergencies, residents can feel safe in their surroundings. This peace of mind allows families to worry less about potential hazards at home, such as falls or isolation.
2. Personalized Care
Each individual has unique needs and preferences, which is why personalized care is a cornerstone of senior communities. Trained staff can provide assistance with daily activities, medication management, and specialized care for those with memory-related conditions. This level of attention ensures that residents receive the care they need while maintaining their dignity and independence.
3. Social Interaction
Isolation can be a significant issue for seniors, leading to feelings of loneliness and depression. Senior care communities foster social engagement by organizing activities, outings, and events that encourage interaction among residents. These opportunities help build friendships and support networks, promoting emotional well-being.
4. Access to Resources
Many senior care communities provide access to various resources, including physical therapy, wellness programs, and healthcare services. This integrated approach to health ensures that residents have everything they need for a healthy lifestyle within reach. Regular check-ups and wellness activities also contribute to the prevention and management of chronic illnesses.
5. Engaging Activities and Programs
Senior care communities offer a variety of activities designed to stimulate the mind and body. From arts and crafts to fitness classes and educational workshops, these programs cater to diverse interests, allowing residents to pursue hobbies and learn new skills. Such engagement is crucial for maintaining cognitive health and overall happiness.
6. Support for Families
Choosing a senior care community can also relieve some of the burdens on family caregivers. These communities provide not just care for the residents but also support and resources for families navigating the complexities of senior care. Knowing that their loved ones are in a nurturing environment allows families to maintain healthier relationships without the stress of constant caregiving.
Conclusion
In summary, senior care communities are essential for enhancing the quality of life for older adults. By providing a safe, supportive, and engaging environment, they address the unique needs of seniors and promote their overall well-being. As the aging population continues to grow, the importance of these communities will only increase, serving as vital resources for families and their loved ones.

FISHERS, Ind.- AHEPA Senior Living held elections for board of directors’ officers and announced grant distributions totaling $500,000 at its annual meeting, July 10 and 11, 2024, in Nashville, Tenn.
The AHEPA Senior Living Board of Directors unanimously reelected Attorney Ike Gulas, Birmingham, Ala., to a three year term as chairman. Gulas has served on ASL’s board for more than 25 years.
“The confidence bestowed on me by my fellow board members is humbling. I consider myself fortunate to work with AHEPA Senior Living as it furthers its mission of providing dignified affordable senior housing and quality aging services to those who need it.” Gulas said. “Our board looks forward to working with President and CEO Steve Beck, and the executive team, to meet our mission and overcome any challenges that come our way.”
“Ike’s contributions as a board member for decades have been critical to our position in the affordable multifamily housing markets,” Beck said. “We look forward to working with Ike and the board of directors, who continue to show a high level of commitment energy, and passion for our mission.”
$500,000 in Grant Awards: Supporting Our Communities
The Board of Directors also was pleased to announce the distribution of $500,000 in grants to nonprofit charitable and service organizations.
“Congratulations to this year’s round of grantees,” Board Chairman Gulas said. “We are proud to support these worthy mission-driven organizations. It’s a privilege to be able to partake in charitable giving, both at the national and local level. In doing so, we enhance vital services and programs that support and strengthen our local communities and the greater society.”
Since 1996, AHEPA Senior Living has supported nonprofits to an amount that exceeds $10 million.
A Salute to Youth: Emerging Leaders Hosted
AHEPA Senior Living also hosted the Greek American community’s emerging leaders as two youth service organizations, Sons of Pericles and Maids of Athena, the Junior Orders of AHEPA, held their annual meetings. AHEPA Senior Living presented each organization with a $10,000 grant toward each of their missions. An “Evening at the Nashville Parthenon” served as the perfect backdrop for a kick-off celebration of Greek culture with music, dancing, and food that set the stage for an unforgettable weekend.
“These young men and women are our future leaders and for us to be afforded the opportunity to host them is a pleasure.” Gulas said. “We look forward to many of them joining us on our boards as they settle into their career paths.”
AHEPA Senior Living Podcast Launched
In addition, the company announced the launch of its video podcast, titled, “AHEPA Senior Living.”
According to Beck, the podcast will be a dynamic platform dedicated to highlighting the importance and impact of affordable independent senior living. They are: Vice Chairman John Zourzoukis, Columbia, S.C.; Secretary Demetrios “Jimmy” Makris, New Port Richey, Fla.; and Treasurer Michael Pihakis, Bridgeville, Pa. Gulas also appointed board member, Attorney Christ Coumanis, Daphne, Ala., as counsel to the board.
Executive Committee Members
Nine members comprise the Executive Committee. The Board of Directors is comprised of 38 members, each one representing one or more of the 87 affordable senior housing communities administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Section 202 Housing for the Elderly Program.
Meet Ike Gulas
Gulas is an attorney with Morgan & Morgan, America’s largest injury law firm. A 1989 graduate of Cumberland School of Law at Samford University, Gulas has been practicing law for 30 plus years. He is a member of the Birmingham Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Southern Trial Lawyer Association, the Alabama Trial Lawyers Association, the American Association for Justice, and the National Trial Lawyers Association where he has been selected as one of the top 100 lawyers in Alabama. In 1998, Gulas founded The Ike Gulas Law Firm, P.C., for which over its 20 years in existence he represented thousands of clients who suffered injuries caused by pharmaceuticals and defective medical devices. As a 40-plus-year member in AHEPA he distinguished himself by serving two terms as its National President representing its 500-plus chapters throughout the United States, Canada and Europe.
When asked about his service to AHEPA Senior Living, a non-profit corporation, Gulas cited one of his father’s memorable teachings about always giving back.
“I have been involved in AHEPA Senior Living’s mission since developing the 72-unit HUD Senior Apartment complex in Hoover, Alabama, 27 years ago. As I witnessed my own father’s aging and the issues faced by our seniors it made my resolve even greater to work to provide solutions to our seniors. I am honored to serve such a worthwhile cause.”

Because I'm feeling whimsical,
What the fuck do you mean that's a quilt??? Round 2
All quilts are contest winners from the quilt show Road to California, 2022. You can see these quilts and the other winners from that year here.
Tumblr media
Best of Show Quilt
Title: Harlequinade Maker: Rebecca Prior Quilter: Jackie Brown Design Basis: Maker's Original Design "Harlequinade" is a theatrical quilt filled with visual clues guiding viewers to discover a hidden story. Inspired by Venetian Carnival masks and commedia del'arte characters, the quilt features the antics of Harlequin, the trickster, who has his own ideas about freedom and fun!
Tumblr media
Director's Choice
Title: Welcome Home Maker: David Taylor Quilter: David Taylor Design Basis: Original image by Margo Clabo, used with permission I first saw this image from friend Margo Clabo more than a decade ago. It took years to convince her to let me adapt her photo into a quilt. The image it depicts is especially sentimental for her. The challenge for myself was to create a pieced pictorial background and recreate a traditionally pieced quilt by using my hand appliqué technique. The project size was overwhelming, but I'm thrilled with the finished quilt. So is Margo. Time to exhale.
Note: To be clear, that is not a photo with a quilt in it, that WHOLE THING is a quilt.
Tumblr media
Best Machine Stationary Quilting
Title: Emerald labyrinth Maker: Kumiko Frydl Quilter: Kumiko Frydl Design Basis: Maker's Original Design As a starting point I used an image from the entrance to the EL Barkookeyeh Mosque in Cairo. Thinking of an elegant and intricate garden I added bursts of natural color and filled the area between the large elements of the design with finer ornament inspired by butterflies and plants. I set the circular image in a rectangular frame with a subdued complimentary design of rippled reflective pools.
Tumblr media
1st Place: Animal
Title: Woodland Wilds Maker: Ann Horton Quilter: Ann Horton Design Basis: Maker's Original Design My morning hikes in the woodland hills of our northern California home inspired this quilt. The rabbits are always alert for danger. This machine appliqued, thread painted and embroidered view through a window is surrounded by wild flowers on hand dyed silk and again surrounded by other wild birds and animals. I love my wilds things in the woods!
Tumblr media
1st Place: Human Image
Title: The Memories That Remain Maker: Lynn Czaban Quilter: Lynn Czaban Design Basis: Library of Congress Photos - LC-USF33-006183MI and LC-USF33-0061 I am fascinated by the human face and our ability to communicate without uttering a single word. The Portuguese word 'saudade' meaning a deep emotional state of nostalgic or profound melancholic longing for something or someone that one cares for and loves. Moreover, it often carries a repressed knowledge that the object of longing might never be had again.
Tumblr media
1st Place: Naturescape
Title: Desert In Spring Maker: Andrea Brokenshire Quilter: Andrea Brokenshire Design Basis: Maker's Original Design My Mom and I embarked on an epic travel trip we named our "Thelma and Louise Adventure" In Palm Springs, CA we visited the Living Desert Botanical Garden. This quilt is inspired by one of the photographs I took that spring day of a Prickly Pear Cactus in full bloom. I loved the leathery texture of the cactus leaves (paddles) and the almost translucent citron yellow blossoms.
Tumblr media
2nd Place: Animal
itle: Not Today Maker: Kestrel Michaud Quilter: Kestrel Michaud Design Basis: Maker's Original Design The chase is on! The Roadrunner is after his next meal, chasing a Common Collared Lizard through a steampunk junkyard. The desert is a favored dumping ground for the detritus of progress, even in a fantasy world. A steam-powered industrial revolution creates iron refuse and pieces of broken machinery have been left to decay in dry desert air. That doesn’t bother these critters. To them, this is home. Will that lizard wind up as dinner? Not today!
Tumblr media
2nd Place: Human Image
Title: Declaration of Independence - Voices of Freedom Maker: Nancy Prince Quilter: Terri Taylor Design Basis: Reproduction of John Trumbull's Painting The quilt is a reproduction of John Trumbull's painting which depicts the moment in history when the first draft of the Declaration of Independence was presented to the Second Continental Congress on June 28, 1776. The quilt front and back were created in Photoshop and custom printed on fabric. Four thousand hours over 4 years was necessary to create the quilt. The back captures the story of the Declaration and its signers.
Note: I'm not at all patriotic. But credit where credit is due. That's a fucking quilt.
Tumblr media
3rd Place: Animal
Title: Midnight Flight Maker: Joanne Baeth Quilter: Joanne Baeth Design Basis: Maker's Original Design Several years ago we had an injured Great Horned Owl roosting in our willow tree during the day. I took several pictures and was inspired to create him in fabric. The background features a painted sky, old buildings, melting snow and a rabbit on the run The foreground is the swooping owl which was constructed by painting and inking each feather and thread painting over fabrics and needle punched wool rovings
Tumblr media
3rd Place: Naturescape
Title: Day Into Night Maker: Deb Deaton Quilter: Deb Deaton Design Basis: Maker's Original Design Inspired from photo by Robert Murray with his permission. When the Arizona sun begins to set, the sky comes alive. I saw this photo and knew the splendor of this landscape needed to be captured with fiber! Sky is hand painted. Raw edge applique. Mixed media used: oil pastels, color pencils, inks to enhance the fabrics and create more dimension. Cheesecloth: painted to create spikes of cactus. Tulle used to capture the sunrays. Machine quilted.
