Listening to a book that made me cry was a good way to get out some feelings today. I'm still pretty cut off from the distress about today but at least we could release some tears

In the backstory chapters of Nona, there's a strong thread of racism running through what goes down and why, but it's all under the surface. Unacknowledged. John frames the injustice done to him in squarely economic terms, or about being fair, or he doesn't explain himself at all, and so there's always something in his story that rings false. A disconnect between the events and John's reaction to them. John clearly knows what it is, but he's still unwilling to overtly name the accomplice even after everyone else involved is dead. Why is that?
Well. Probably because of racism. One of its little tricks is how no one likes to hear about it, especially if it implicates their own communities. Talk about an instant way to lose a crowd. Or a scholarship. John was an indigenous student without a safety net. He spent his whole life making himself palatable to first Pākehā and then British institutions, in the hopes that by chasing success in education, he could lift himself out of poverty and make a difference in the world. That's what everyone tells you, right? Get yourself an education, and that's your ticket out. Survive the abuse, and you can make something of yourself.
John played that game perfectly. He worked his way up, he endured, he got his degrees, and in doing so he learned to frame things in the way people wanted to hear them. And how to avoid mentioning things that might be used against him.
None of it protected him, of course, that's the true bitch of it all. He was still put in his place as soon as he tried to use his investor's money to help people like him, and there was nothing he could do about it. The harder he fought to blow the whistle on them the worse things got, until he was stood in front of the government with all his evidence, and instead of considering a word he said, they threatened him with racialised violence. We were going to put you fellas in jail, weren’t we?
Ten thousand years later, he's still not ready to confront any of that. I got mad, he tells Harrow, as if that could possibly adequately explain what had happened. As if he'd even know where to begin explaining why.

Caerdroia
Synopsis
Self-exiled to a new universe, separated from the TARDIS, opposed and manipulated by the Divergence and their agent the Kro'ka, the Eighth Doctor has been struggling to work out the nature of the cosmic game in which he's an unwilling pawn. Now, at last, he has a chance to find the answer — and regain the TARDIS!
Threatened and desperate, the Kro'ka abandons his behind-the-scenes machinations to confront the Doctor directly. But will both of them lose their way in the maze of the strange world in which they find themselves? A world in which a clock may have a cuckoo but no hands, a labyrinth imprisoning a paradox, and a Garden of Curiosities reveals something the Doctor has never seen before.
As the Doctor faces these challenges, Charley and C'rizz provide valuable help. But with the TARDIS itself at stake, the Doctor reaches deep inside himself to find some surprising new allies.

haven't made a jammer post which is unacceptable because i delight in him so here's a jammer post
him leaving gowpenny because they took away his autonomy is so visceral to me. immediately became a crucial part of his character in my mind. he is such a chill dude but at the same time the personal laws and values he has are so strong that as soon as something crosses a line he's out of there
actually on that note i wonder if there's going to be any resentment for k for volunteering him when it inevitably lasts way longer than a few days. but personal loyalty and forgiveness are also core values for him!!! but we haven't seen jammer snap, I don't think. and lou wilson has this incredible power of having his characters snap at just the right moment for maximum gut punch so. lots of possibilities there!!!
jammer working with kids and being good with them is so not a surprise that it loops back around to being delightful. does that make sense? like, of course he does! and that feeling is again so indicative of how lou wilson builds his characters that im mad about how good he is. also idk from the way he was played in that scene he knows all the kids names, all the ways to deal with each one individually, he's got a bunch of little tricks up his sleeve to deal with them. everything is just so jammer
finally the divide between jammer being so committed to his team and community back home but not really close to anyone in particular vs jammer apathetic to the larger magical world but still so devoted to his friends.. there is a key internal conflict and im so nervous because lou pcs always stomp on my heart and then make me want to thank him for it

For the curious I have three strong opinions about Mudclaw;
Mudclaw is a fascinating character but "Mudclaw would have been a great leader" truthers don't actually like the real Mudclaw. That guy is an absolute voltorb of a cat in 95% of onscreen appearances
Tallstar's greatest mistake wasn't that he changed his deputy-- it's that he ever chose him for that position in the first place. It emboldened him to try and take the power he felt was owed.
"He just Loved His Clan--" L + Ratio + Denied Bluestar her sacred rite as a leader to access the Moonstone + Attacked Leafpaw knowing she was a medcat apprentice + was big mad Onewhisker was friendly with ThunderClan and then promised to make Hawkfrost his deputy if he helped him do murder.
Do you guys remember that time that Mothwing kicked his ass to save Leafpaw? I do. There should be more fanart of that time she beat his head like a bongo drum and called his friends stinky and didn't even mess up her hair. Incredible moment in Moonrise.

i want inhos backstory so fucking bad. why was he renting that tiny ass room. why did he keep his card in that little box. were the coffins his idea? why did he stop paying rent at the beginning of season 1? when did his wife and child die, was that during his game or after? what happened to all of his money? when did he become the frontman? does he orchestrate the games or is someone paying him to do it? what does he want from gihun, beyond wanting to change his mind/prove his point? what happened to him in/after the games to make him the frontman? who was the frontman before him?

dunk and egg being about how there is no magic left and we must create any ounce of goodness we wish to see in ourselves and the world is dying following the apocalyptic demise of the biggest source of magic in the ruling family. and then implying bit by bit that the fabled supernatural targaryen dragon madness is actually probably just schizoaffective severe mental illness passed around the family because at the end of the day they are still just people dealing with very human pain often through self-mythologization. yeah
