Another Rhys Video on Cameo! This one in particular had a lot of folks clowning today. You can watch the video on cameo-- it's the newest one 3:51 seconds long with him in the hat and the red shirt. I tried to download it and upload it, and tumblr literally lost all my drafts because of it, I have no idea what happened so I'm not doing that again lol. Instead, here's the short video of what triggered the clowning.
"Thank you so much for all your support on Our Flag Means Death, they'll be more stuff happening in the future, keep listening and watching, and uh, yeah, peace out, Rhys Out, Don't let that Octopus out! BuhByeeee!"
Thank you @Jodegg for sharing this video with us!!!

== UK Fan Efforts ==
Fans are reaching out to radio stations in the UK! Very cool guide put together by @TeeHeeSeason3 on Twitter for contacting BBC radio stations in the UK regarding what to place to help support the OFMD Renewal.
== Focus Groups ==
Remember the focus group/surveys we mentioned yesterday on yougov.com? Well some folks have been trying to sign up and been having some issues finding OFMD, so our lovely, sweet, amazing @libbyroseitm was kind enough to make a tutorial for everyone! Twitter Thread. YouGov rating tutorial! Make an account first, then follow these steps. If you'd like to see what kinds of questions it asks for you to sign up, visit here. Step 1: On your Account page, scroll down until you see a link for "View All Ratings", and click that
Step 2: You'll be taken to a screen that says "Rate Everything", click on the link for "Not What you're looking for?" and it will pop up a model that gives you a button to click that says "Previous Version" Click that.
Step 3: Once in the new version, type the name of the show (or actor, writer, etc) you'd like to rate
Step 4: Select your show when it pops up, and then rate it and add an opinion if you'd like!
Special Notes:
People probably aught to be careful to keep personal information to themselves.
You can search for actors and other films and tv shows related to OFMD, not just the show itself.
Vote on things other than OFMD so they don't get suspicious.
= STATS STATS STATS =
As always, special thanks to our dear friend @meowzawowza_ over on twitter for their constant stats updates
== Schadenfreude ==
Awww, looks like WB Discovery Inc is still trending downwards. How sad. Thank you @btweenhisteeth for keeping us up to date on these sad sad times for WB!
== More Clowning ==
So today I learned of this "Honk Weather Control Center" account on twitter (@HonkForecast) and I have to say it's pretty great. So far for several days they've had "clown" forecasts for how much we should be clowning. Love it.
== Morale ==
Definitely head on over to Rhys' New Cameo video if you haven't already because as always his sunshine is a big ol dose of Vitamin Darby right to the soul and there's nothing that can replace that feeling!
== Love Notes ==
Done with your Rhys love? Great! But now you have to endure my unconditional love as well! *Maniacal laughter*
Are you aware that you are so very loved, my dear?
But also, did you know you're worthy of love?
All the love--- Like every kind you want (platonic, romantic, parental, agape, etc)
You are not difficult to love. Not at all.
You are not too much, or too little,
you're exactly the right amount,
and you are worthy of love just the way you are.
I've probably said it before, but I want you to know just how imperfectly perfect you all are, and every moment of every day you deserve love and happiness and everything you want in life.
The world is such a better place with you in it and all of your crewmates want you to know that. We care for you deeply my friends.
You matter, don't ever forget that.
= Daily Darby / Tonight's Taika =
So I just got done watching a bunch of Radiradirah on youtube (which is goofy AF btw, like New Zealand Monty Python style fun) and I can't get over Space Waltz, so tonight that's the theme. Look at these two stinking goofballs and their faces.
Night lovelies <3
PS: I never say it but thank you for all the lovely comments in the tags! They always make me smile, yall are the best!

something I'd like to point out about One Piece fans (mostly on Twitter) who think they are more righteous for only (in large amounts might i add, just gushing over their faves in the anime by reblogging gifs, posts, fanarts many times per day every day) reblogging content from the One Piece animanga & boycotting/no longer posting about the One Piece LA just cuz of Taz's """neutrality""" & choice of wording it as "conflict" instead of "genocide" (which conflict is classified under):
They 100% ignore how their "anime that supports absolute freedom + human rights & is anti-genocide, anti-colonialist, etc"... is a product of mostly overworked, underpaid animators under slave-like conditions ie the opposite of freedom, as discussed in this highly viewed video (easy to understand for non-anime people here) : https://youtu.be/BDEIPa9b3OU?feature=shared
I fully believe that even with Netflix being shit, the Live Action staff, script writers, set designers, camerapeople, scene choreographers, actors etc. are way better compensated for their passion & hard work than anime animators forced to take multiple projects just to barely afford their rent & meals while sleeping under 5 hours every day.
Toei animation inc is part of the problem where they obstruct the Toei animators' unionization attempts, & historically is part of the reason why Japanese animators trend to be basically underpaid, worked 20+- hours a day slaves under contract (cuz they followed the Tezuka model of one new episode every week for multiple anime even until it's unfeasible in more complicated-looking modern anime).
The recent anime studio that tried to do good (Kyoto Animation) by setting humane work conditions + donating to a shooting spree tragedy's victims... ran out of money & folded, while many studios that are formerly passion-driven got turned into hellish sweatshops former employees have been rallying against (eg Mappa, which currently produce many extremely popular ongoing anime like Jujutsu Kaisen & Chainsaw Man, which mamy Twitter users reblog too). Most studios keep their animators shut with NDAs & only the ones who get fired/kicked themselves out could speak out, with many studios having dirt.
Holy shit. I had no freaking clue it was that bad! I feel so sorry for those animators, especially the ones tryna support a family on trash pay.
But even with this knowledge you'll still have people that will argue "I'm not talking about what goes on bts, only the storyline and the character Taz plays blah blah blah!" Even though I've had multiple anons point out all the moral complexities that have come up in the anime/manga.
I ventured over to Twitter for a hot second just to see what was going on, and I actually saw a few more positive Taz posts as opposed to constant negative so that's a plus!

Project Spotlight #2: Hello? Are you there?
In this spotlight, we're visiting a radio tower at the end of the world to speak with Tommy of the post-apocalyptic Hello? Are you there?!
Tell us a bit about yourself and your teammates!
@starcourtmallcollective: Hi! I’m Tommy, a osdd1-b system who loves writing! I’m the writer of the podcast (big surprise hehe) and I cannot wait to show what we’ve got in store! I’ve never done anything like this before but I do love listening to podcasts such as Hello From The Hallowoods and The Magnus Archives!
Hi, I’m Monte D. Monteleagre. I’m a writer, musician, photographer and apparent artist living in New York City. I’m a member of Wolf Mountain Workshop and help write and produce inc: The Podcast as well as stories on Tales From Wolf Mountain. For this project, I will be designing the cover art.
@wav-file: Hi I'm Jay, I'm the editor for this project! It's my first time making a podcast and I'm super excited about it!
@im-the-punk-who: Milo here! A writer, actor, artist, and general ex-theatre-kid, I am the VA for this project! Recent projects include the last three rounds of Hubris, in the episodes 'The Dreamscape Highway,' 'Whiskering City,' and 'Let Me Tell You A Story.'
What's your podcast about?
Our podcast is about a person in a post apocalyptic world! A man-made one, so the economy crashed, we all blew ourselves up, etc. the main character, Aiden, finds an old radio tower and uses it to tell stories of old! And some stories of personal people he’s met that he never got to keep for long. It heavily centers around themes of abandonment and being lonely!
What are you most excited about in this event?
I’m most excited about the voice behind Aiden, our VA is absolutely AMAZING and I can’t to hear Aiden come to life!
Any advice for other participants, or those on the fence about joining?
Umm, I’d have to say that while it sounds scary, it’s so much fun! It’s like ripping a bandaid off and you’ll have a whole team to help out as well. If you have an idea or if you think you’d want to dip your toes into something, then do it! Believe in yourself!
This team is not accepting new members at this time, but if you're interested in learning more about the Podcast Jam event, check out this post for more information.

One of the things that also bothers me about the “you must experience *insert trauma* in order to write darkfic about” narrative it is that it requires disclosure (which not all people want to do) and sometimes even veers into the territory of having to provide proof. When people like survivors of assault often have compounded trauma of not having evidence, having people doubt them or try to ruin their credibility. They don’t need to also face that from people because they read/wrote a FANFIC.
It also fosters this culture where people think it’s normal/acceptable to share really explicit trauma with strangers with little warning. And then even use it as a trump card. Like Person A might say, “Really loved *insert fic with an age gap relationship*”, and a total STRANGER feels entitled to say, “Wow, well I *insert graphic description of grooming/assault/etc*, so—” When 1) you don’t know what Person A has been through (again, gets at forced disclosure), and 2) you’re potentially triggering people by making them unexpectedly have to read something that they might not be in the right headspace to see.
Idk. I feel like I’m not saying this in a way that makes sense but I have a lot of feelings about it.
unnecesarily rambling answer inc. first of all: i completely agree with you. that’s the point of my tag #a psa on forced disclosure (see also the last reblog). i’ve seen writers get wildly dogpiled on and ‘forced’ into disclosing why they made the writing choices that they did, and it’s awful. fuck that. bad enough when the person whose identity/legitimacy under attack is a mainstream trad pub author (or professional actor) who has an entire professional team to manage this for them — but fanfic authors??? regular people? whose fic was maybe only intended to be read by like five people and who are just hoping their efforts in this silly little hobby will make their lives a little more bearable, a little more fun even? no real people are getting hurt, except maybe people who have wandered into a space they weren’t meant to be in, that wasn’t meant for them. yeah no patience for that here — and all the sympathy for these poor authors. you did not deserve that. you do not need to justify yourselves. also: the only things you are obligated to warn for on AO3 are the four major archive warnings. CNTW is a perfectly valid option too. ANYTHING else is courtesy.
as a very happy enjoyer of darkfic, if i have any trauma at all, it is entirely my business to decide who i want to tell, how, what, when, etc! my choice to not disclose anything publicly here—including age and pronouns—is 100% intentional i promise. i could be a minor. i’m on multiple 18+ discord servers. i’m not a minor 😂 i could be a swamp thing. if the possibility of that makes you uncomfortable genuinely please leave, i do not want to make anyone uncomfortable here!
ON a very different note — that said, there are benefits to disclosing! very different from Trauma (or is it?) but i personally found it extremely helpful that a lot of these fics were tagged or otherwise mentioned in the a/ns to be written by disabled authors. same too with POC characters, and gender/sexual minorities — it makes me a) more likely to seek these fics out, and b) read them with a slightly different eye than i might otherwise. so. i reiterate, not an obligation, AT ALL, but i’m very thankful for any authors who feel safe enough to share these things about themselves!
i also do wonder if choosing to disclose and talk about it might be empowering, in a way — but to be clear: this is a completely separate discussion from forced disclosure. i hardly imagine forced disclosure is empowering for anybody lol.
#also i do have to say that i’ve never encountered this level of egregious oversharing hahaha#maybe bc of well modded discord servers or bc of selective memory/i Do Not See (i don’t doubt that it could happen!!)#i am very cozy here in my happy little fandom bubble of very filtered tumblr dash and excited discord screaming!#took a while to curate/find people but HELL YEAH IS IT WORTH IT#leftsidedown tag#answered asks#a psa on forced disclosure

long rant (+question) about jonathan from stranger things
disclaimer : NO ZIONISM OR ZIONIST-APOLOGIZING HERE. this show has been in my life since it came out and carried me through middle school and high school. i still love it to this day, especially s1 and s2 (i don't have that same attachment to s3 and s4 idk why. i didn't love them, didn't cry, nothing). i have been watching reactions to s1 lately and i love seeing people speculate about the demogorgon and the plot (you know by now how much i love watching reactions to my favorite shows). I was reminded of a few feelings i've had for a while now. i DON'T encourage you to watch it on netflix- no money for schnappers- and tbh i've never watched it on netflix because i never really had a subscription. despite everything, it's full of nostalgia for me and holds a special place in my heart, and you have to admit it is an amazing show (s1 and s2 only. s3 and s4 are fan-service and the scope is too big and the characters lost a lot of their charm)
ok! disclaimer over!
i have a genuine question
i know that jonathan taking pictures of that gathering at steve's back in season 1 was a plot device to get evidence for the demogorgon, and so that nancy sees it, but other than that : what the hell is his justification?
he didn't go into the woods with the INTENTION to stalk on steve, nancy, barb, etc. he went there to.......take pictures of the ground? looking for some kind of hint or footprints??
like what???
the pictures displayed on screen aren't pictures of anything. you'd think he'd go with a flashlight or something to FIND SOMETHING and have his camera ready IF he did -- but he just went there with his camera and started clicking away. to me that doesn't make sense.
also, after he heard the scream and realized it was just carol, why did he take pictures? in that short time he can't have thought "i am capturing the essence of being a teenager having fun cause that's like artistic" or something. he can't have thought "i am keeping these cause i'm so unpopular and i wish i was there and i'm gonna take dozen of pictures of these people that don't like me just so i can fantasize about being a normal teenager"
dude you were in the woods at night alone, taking some kind of risk to be honest, searching for your missing kid brother. that can't be on your mind. it would've made so much more sense if he dismissed it after he realized what the scream was, and maybe came back after he heard a strange noise coming from the pool area, when barb was sitting on the thing.
and he's TAKING PICTURES because it's unusual
and barb and the group HAPPEN to be on the pictures-- so it still seems strange to nicole (?), and she still snitches to steve inc.
steve still breaks the camera, nancy picks up the ripped photos, etc etc.
that way! jonathan is not just a creep!
what do you think? do you know what the duffers were doing?
long ranty sidenote : i think jonathan is very underrated in s1, and the writers dismiss him completely in later seasons - until they just completely write him off to focus on his goofy comic relief friend.
charlie heaton is a great actor and i think about the funeral-related fight he had with joyce a lot.
jonathan has a cool passion (photography) that is USEFUL to monster/paranormal/scary plot. so he is a great plot device in that regard. he also acts as a mentor and a great big brother figure for will, who needs an understanding and caring male figure in his life to fill his father's void. so he's also very plot-relevant in that way when will is the center of the story.
but otherwise - there's a few things i want to say about his character that i feel are important and often underappreciated details about him
he's a relatable loser who's bullied at school. maybe that's not interesting on it's own, but he is unique in the set of characters because unlike mike, lucas, dustin and will, who are bullied losers that DO have each other, he is a true loner. and that aspect of him is not handled in a "boohoo pick me" way.
his dad fucking sucks ("you're getting stronger", he struggles with his tie at the funeral, he looked in THE TRUNK OF HIS DAD'S CAR FOR WILL! i don't see enough people pointing that out. the fact that it's a possibility blows my mind)
he's forced to take on the "man of the house" role for his family, forcing him to take night shifts, drive his brother around, take care of his brother's funeral alone, take care of his mother, etc. it's a heavy responsibility and it drives him further away from "normal teenagehood" cause he doesn't have much time to think about himself, and he doesn't have anyone to reassure him, to take care of him like he takes care of his mom or brother. no nancy doesn't. count. argyle doesn't count either they had nothing in common and he was just there for comic relief
he is dealing with a 22 year old charlie heaton's receding hairline! i feel bad for him! and then the writers decided to cover it up with A BOWLCUT for s3 and s4 i was so so :( like cover it up with anything else. get a toupet and stick with the season 2 hair.
i wish the duffer brothers didn't throw a blunt at him in season 4 and run with that. they could've talked about hsi relationship to drugs in a different, more meaningful way.
also sidenote if i was attracted to charlie heaton i would 100% be attracted to jonathan. except for that hairline. maybe we could get him a trip to turkey or something and then i could read fanfics about him.

I wouldn’t read a self-help book to save my life. They’re all written by charlatans.
Books on creativity belong in the same category but there are some exceptions.
Will Gompertz’ book “Think Like an Artist” deals with the process and therefore doesn’t oversell its objective.
Gompertz works for BBC Arts and has met many major artists - writers, directors, actors etc. - during his career.
He simply describes the common traits he detected in them, nothing more.
His short book is worth a read but is not a must. The one book about creativity you should read is “Creativity Inc.” by Ed Catmull, the cofounder and president of Pixar.

you should read the article--it's fairly short and talks about this practice but like--it's a super shady accounting trick where like--actor A isn't employed by Warner Brothers for movie B: instead WB creates a whole new corporation for movie B and that corporation employs actor A
then, Warner Brothers charges ''''fees''''' to Movie B Incorporated. These are justified in terms of things that--on their face--are legitimate: distribution, advertising, merchandise licensing, etc.
The shady part comes in where like--because they are selling things from one entity they totally control to another entity they totally control, they can have a sock on one hand say "hey Movie B Inc, wanna pay $75M for the use of Warner Bros' catering tent?" and then use a sock on the other hand to say "Sure, I'd love to! Looks like I won't make any money on this movie after i pay you, but that's the cost of the movie!"
In terms of year-end tax purposes, this doesn't hide anything: Warner Brothers still made the money, whether it was by them directly or a subsidiary corp; the relevance here is that if an actor or a writer or someone is compensated based on the profit of a movie, warner brothers can point at the subsidiary that they've taken all the money from in fees and say "But Movie B Inc didn't make any money! Guess there's nothing to share with writers and actors with a profit share agreement. Better luck next time, I suppose!"
Not saying that Hollywood studios are committing blatant financial fraud or anything, but the writer of the original Men in Black being told that after 3 sequels, a hit song, a WB cartoon series and a comic book being told “this franchise has never made money” is rather shady.
Didn’t Mark Hamill say they once sent him a letter every year claiming Star Wars never made any money?

Did you know that apparently the guy that plays Homelander is a dick just like the character. And the guy that play Oliver Queen in the green arrow tv show is also a dick.
that genuinely, genuinely does not surprise me and is exactly why I don't keep up w celebrities outside of, like, if they have a cute dog, what films/TV shows/etc they're doing. like, celebrity worship culture is so out of control rn and we SHOULD go back to the days where celebrities kept themselves quiet in the public eye as well as when we (the general public) only knew a handful of things about them; stan culture has created a toxic environment where the only outcome of it will ever be disappointment that someone who was in a film or whatever is a dick and you'll feel bad for liking them.
that said tho, I'm still gonna support the SAG-AFTRA strikes bc it's not about the cunts who act like they're hot shit - it's about the working actors & writers who, like many of us, are surviving from paycheck to paycheck and who (when there isn't a healthcare system in the country they live in) can't afford insurance to continue living. you add that with the fact that AI is being used to try and replace them, then you really do see that, y'know, REGARDLESS of if Antony Starr is a raging knobhead, REGARDLESS if a writer is a bit of a dick, so many people are going to lose their jobs if AI isn't regulated and kept well away from actors (inc. voice actors), writers, artists, and other creatives.
#idek who the green arrow guy is but yeah#I'm so glad I'm not into that celebrity worship culture bs#asks#anonymous

just out of curiosity, what are the canon omni and ply characters that you know? and are any of them labeled that in canon?
I have them listed on my omnisexual and polysexual timelines page, but I’ll share them here with sources! I note if they’re labeled in an interview, on social media, or in the piece of media.
(I’ll update this post as I find more omni/ply characters)
The omnisexual characters I know of:
Abby (Broken Things by Lauren Oliveri) — Line in book: “Abby is omnisexual.” (pg. 156)
Addison (Pursuit by Felice Picano) — Line in synopsis: “Handsome, intelligent, street-smart, ruthlessly ambitious, and omnisexual, young Addison Grimmins.”
Alex (The Scientist and the Supermodel by Tara Lain) — Line in book: “Alex is bisexual, or as she calls it, omnisexual.”
Ari (Dark Wine at Dusk by Jenna Barwin) — Line in book: “I consider myself ‘omnisexual.’” (pg. 41)
Benoit (Benoit by R.J. Scott and V.L. Locey) — Line in book: “I might not have been straight or even bi, I tended to think of myself as pan or omni, if picking categories was essential, which it’s not, but society gets hung up on labels.” (pg. 4)

He tries not to label.” [x] — Writer/producer on Twitter: “But @/BrandonVietti and @/kharypayton and I have long known that Kaldur’ahm is bi or poly, if not pan. To be clear, any indecisiveness about whether Kaldur is pansexual comes out of the fact that he’s still writing his own story.” [x] [x]
Red (Hearts and Heroes) — Creator on Tumblr: “Red - Trans Male - Polysexual - He/Him” [x]
(As indicated in the quotes, Kaldur’ahm has also been labeled bisexual and sort of pansexual.)

Since my page has grown, I wanted to say a huge thank you, but also set some ground rules for this blog. Please respect these: I'm being as polite as I can in asking again.
Please do not interact with works marked 18+ if you are a minor. I can't control what you do, I can't stop you from reading it, but adult content written by an adult shouldn't be interacted with by minors.
Please, please be respectful of me and others on this blog: human decency and mutual respect shouldn't be too much to ask. Any discrimination of any kind will be blocked (inc. homophobia, transphobia, racism, islamophobia, antisemitism, ableism, etc.).
Please don't bring hate here, towards anyone: not me, not celebrities, not characters: nothing.
Please do not disrespect me. And to be fair, this goes for all writers on this site. We don't get paid for the content we produce in out limited free time, so please be respectful of these facts also.
Please do not engage in political discourse on this page. I’m not a tory, but that doesn’t mean I want to discuss my views with you.
Working on that same basis, do not engage in discussions about a cancelled celebrity or similar on my page. Chances are I have no interest, and if they've done something really bad then I won’t support them.
Again, on that same basis, do not engage in fandom discourse on my blog. Yes JKR is a terf, yes fandoms can be very toxic, but that doesn’t mean I want to discuss any of that.
This obviously has exceptions. Would you like to chat about Marvel without slating and cancelling actors or characters? Go ahead, drop me an ask.
This blog is the way it is for a reason, with limited interaction and limited information about me, because I’m a private person working semi-anonymously, and don’t want certain details on the internet. Therefore, please don’t contact me demanding information about me and my opinions.
Elaborating on this, please remember that you aren’t entitled to new uploads. I write content and post it at my own pace, and you should separate the creator from the work. This goes for all creators on this site.
Another post of blog rules - Jan 2021
And some notes to bear in mind about my writing:
Please don’t come in my inbox criticising my writing. I'm happy to discuss fics I've written, though.
I write only for fem!reader at the moment, but I'm branching out into gender neutral!reader for fluff pieces.
Most of my writing is 2nd person, but I do write from 1st and 3rd person perspectives.
I write long fics generally but some are on the shorter side. Writing takes a very long time and lots of effort, so please be kind.
I'm only making this so that my blog can be a safe space. Thank you so much for all the support, I truly appreciate it.

the thing about the outrage over no emmy noms for any latinx nominees nor for the Black trans women from Pose is that the history of these award shows are a celebration of hollywood excellence. hollywood is a white supremacist & cultural imperialistic enterprise. the nominations reflect as such.
when #oscarssowhite happened in 2016 we saw an over correction by the industry to be inclusive in 2017. and the awards were far less inclusive in 2018. theyve learned to give us a couple tokens to keep us satisfied. they don’t care about diversity. they are responding to their bottom dollar being threatened.
those brutality honest oscar voter articles attest to all this. when it comes to “diverse films” that are nominated the voters inevitably reveal their disdain for “diversity” and how it’s nothing more than a hand out. they hate that they even have to play this charade.
any diversity initiative (🙄) in hollywood inc. these award shows is a red herring to distract from the still wide (and in some departments widening) gap of labor disparities vis race, gender, sexuality, etc. to distract from rampant labor exploitation. to encourage the creation of an approved kind of “diverse” story that perpetuates american ideology.
we celebrate when we get diverse gatekeepers in hollywood (be they in development, green lighting projects, or voters who nominate for awards). but something peculiar has happened. couple of weeks ago a bunch of latinx writers/creators on twitter shared how many times they were rejected from *gasp* lantinx gatekeepers. black filmmakers went through the same thing a year or two ago. the common reason for being rejected by the ppl who were hired to promote diversity was that the shows were “too ethnic”. if your film or tv show or character doesn’t put forth american ideology it probably won’t get made and certainly won’t get celebrated.
i get it it’s fun to cheer on your faves but like the history of these awards shows were started as a union busting effort. they gave green book awards for fucks sake. it’s not like these awards have value. and for a loooong time if you were black and won an award it was like the end of your career (Cuba & Halle come to mind)
but ppl *are*celebrating these actors and tv shows. there’s fan art and fan cams. tweets @-ing the creators to express how much their show means to them. a whole lotta shit. maybe we should emphasize stuff like this and invest in alternatives to these trophies who are voted on by old white men and the select tokens they’ve allowed in.
what’s the point of getting flowers from organizations that hate you? when those orgs very blatantly just award diversity to stave off accusations of racism?

I can however argue that 2gether would not have been successful if it wasn't for the fact that Bright and Win are gorgeous + the other side actors are very invested and active. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the show and very excited to get some more content for it. Though, the production was sloppy and the show had its flaws, it felt rushed and unfinished but it pulled through thanks to the characters and the fact that they managed to get some dynamic and pretty faces.
hiii anon!!! mmmmm yes. i mean, yes brightwin are v good looking, but also lets not forget here how win was practically forced to lose 10kg in 2 months to fit tine's character description. so yes, looks did play a part. but in terms of this toxic ""aestheticism"" culture we have (for the lack of a better word), in all shows now, looks of characters Do play a part in the whole appeal and selling of a show and a character, whether we like to admit it or not. bc we associate looks of characters very heavily with the character themselves. whether thats their hair colour, tattoo use, outfits, accessories and jewelry, makeup and styling, facial hair, weight and height etc, amongst so many other things.
but i think the timing of 2gether coming out was its biggest bonus/asset, along with how it skyrocketed on social media, again, bc of the time it got released, which meant international access to it was made v v v open and easy and simple. it could be marketed v v v easily to a global audience by social media bc there was no other way to market the show humanly due to lockdown. so it gained attraction at a much larger scale. thats ultimately why 2gether got popular on a global scale, if you're talking about solely viewership, international outreach and numbers.
talking about it from a storyline pov, as a drama, the story was just ... refreshing, in that, yeah, it was nothing new. it was simple. and it was light hearted and fun and a proper rom com. i think for me personally, it also just really neatly dispelled many toxic lgbt+ tropes too. it showed lgbt+ love in a completely normal, chilled out way, just how rom coms do. and the characters have their individualistic appeal to them. other things helped, like the music and the cinematography and the colours too - it was a warm colour palette show. it didnt take itself too seriously but still managed to show depth. yeah, every show has a couple of bad episodes, which show doesn't? but pining the whole show down on to just those 2 episodes and a goddamn cursed high-5 alone, and overlooking the rest of the entire show seems unjust tbh. like i keep saying, when the show was airing live, nobody was complaining then!
so yeah, whilst the success does partially lie with having a good looking, social media active cast, you sorta have to see why social media played such a HUGE role in 2gether's success, especially in the circumstances and time period that the show was airing. its the backbone of it. but i wouldnt say having a good looking cast = instantly successful show. the show had appeal to the masses bc of the things the show had in it, which weren't perfect 100% of the time, but being critical means looking at both the good and the bad, not just the bad only, before making a judgement on something. and most people i know take 2gether's bad with the good, and say they enjoyed the show! so its no surprise that still2gether is monopolising on the back of 2gether's success. people want more of these characters bc they love them and their storylines, the actors who play them show sincerity, love and respect to their characters and (lgbt+) audiences, p'aof as an lgbt+ writer, director and producer can authentically write stories for lgbt+ characters and audiences, and so ... why would an entertainment/production company not use that to their monetary advantage as well?
bc now, gmmtv's budget has skyrocketed, they'll invest even more money into still2gether, which is why people are saying that still2gether's budget has increased bc just by the trailer alone, ppl could immediately tell there's been a budget raise. so ya know, who knows, still2gether's (production) quality could be much much better and less sloppy than 2gether's was (which imho, wasnt even that bad tbh, aside from certain plot points during ep 12 and 13). so then, i wouldnt be surprised how much more still2gether will appeal to the audience, not just bc of the good looking actors, but bc of the whole show itself increasing in quality. and so of course countries like japan and taiwan and the philippines, and broadcasters like netflix, wetv etc have signed deals with gmmtv to broadcast 2gether as well as other gmmtv shows, i'm sure in the future too, in their countries/platforms, and big magazines like vogue and gq as well as domestic thai brands are jumping on brightwin's current success.
bc i can hand on heart say, that nobody, and i mean nobody, expected 2gether to ... well, reach the popularity it has. win was practically nobody before this. bright was literally on scraps getting side role after side role. i'd say apart from like frank, drake, gunsmile, guy, toptap and gun, maybe even mike too, the rest of the cast had unseasoned/not that well known actors (inc. khaotung, jj and pluem). and then, 2gether happened. so. yeah. a lot of factors come into play.
#faiza answers#idk this pov of 2gether was only a hit bc of brightwin's looks is ...v v shallow and downplays#what the actual show/storyline of the show is about. and its a lot more deeper than looks.
