i finally watched the Zane Lowe interview with Harry for Harry’s House from 2022 — and it was really lovely.
I hadn’t really watched any interviews of solo Harry yet -outside of a few 30 second clips of an interview from 2017-, so it was a definite change from watching him having about 5 seconds to answer a question during all the 1D era interviews and then being interrupted after 20 seconds of talking, to actually getting to hear him explain something in a calm and proper long-winded way; making a few detours here and there, as one Harold does 😌
although to be honest, these kinds of interviews are hard for me personally to concentrate on (got bad adhd), i’ve wanted to make the effort, because it’s Harry and a) it’s really not often he, you know, really talks in interviews (the ‘bold of you to assume he’s ever said anything about anything’-meme is so REAL) and b) because it really interested me what he had to say; to see where his mind was at two years ago, especially since i haven’t been around on a fan-level in six years.
i feel like he still held a LOT close to his chest; was often very vague when something led towards his personal life (except that story about driving through Europe in Robin’s car.. that was so personal and moving) and that’s completely okay, of course! but I personally sometimes have trouble following a story when it’s all kept so very vague, because I can’t really grasp what he’s trying to say when he’s talking around certain words; being descriptive rather than factual (if that makes sense). i find it hard to grasp a point that’s not being flat out said. that’s a me-problem with me poor comprehension skills, though.
i really appreciate the thoughts that he shared, the amount of vulnerability that he did give (because he does not owe that to us at all) and i found myself smiling without even noticing many times, because listening to his voice and little anecdotes is a special kind of comfort.
and I found it so curious to look at him at 28 in that interview, while mentally getting constant flashes of little moments of when he was 18.. and to see the stark contrasts (that in moments, in a way made it hard to grasp that that was still the same person), but also some mannerisms and micro expressions on his face that are still the same. time is such a wild concept and 10 years can hold almost entire lifetime’s worth of experiences. at only 28, in that interview, to me Harry feels like he’s in his 2nd or 3rd life era already.
but i’m rambling again.
i’m grateful that this interview exists and it was a beautiful experience getting a little glimpse into Harry’s mind when, how and why he made Harry’s House. (I haven’t yet listened to any of it myself, I still have Fine Line on my catch-up menu before that.)
Harry’s aura holds such softness and gentleness, all that was missing from my watch was a blanket and a warm cup of tea and I would’ve felt like in a happy cocoon.
I love Harry so much. Only human, certainly with flaws like we all have, but such a special person through and through. He deserves everything good in this world. Louis would certainly agree :’)

▴ THRALLS OF POWER ▾
Episode 1: Time (Teaser Scene)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is with some modicum of pride (and mild terror!!!!) that I present you this very first extract of my The Legend of Zelda animatic project called Thralls of Power, a project I have started about a year ago and I've been working on ever since (except when my computer explodes and then I can't make progress and I'm totally normal about that btw)
The story is set during the Child Timeline (aka: Majora's Mask & Twilight Princess), starting from Ocarina of Time and progressing from there.
Thralls of Power tells the story of a failed coup, of a desperate uprising, of figures of legend reckoning with their own agency in a world haunted by the remnants of the Goddesses who forged it.
While it is first and foremost a sincere homage to this series I adore and accompanied me my entire life, I must warn that this is probably aimed at a slightly more mature audience than the original games, and veers into more complicated moral grayness and realistic portrayals of war and politics than the series generally tends to do, making it closer to dark fantasy than the original games.
The first episode is about 75% complete, and I will be forced to admit defeat and only attempt to promise its release for the first quarter of 2025. The second one is fully storyboarded but quite ambitious, so I'm not even going to hazard a guess!
The full thing is outlined, but I'm not promising I'll actually do the whole story because it's quite ambitious and would probably take me a full decade, and I don't know if I have it in me. But you'll get a good couple of episodes at the very least!
It unfortunately will not feature voice acting, because coordinating voice actors would make this solo project very complicated and also I'm not a native english speaker and every voice actor I know that would be interested would speak English with a French accent if at all and also I do not trust that I can't find a decent Ganondorf and SO MUCH would hinge on a good Ganondorf performance that I think it would be unreasonable to even risk it

1: Magic is a Metaphor > 2: Morgana is a Lesbian > 3: Merlin is Gay > 4: Arthur is Bi
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Obviously, magic is a metaphor for being gay. It is something that you're born with, that you can't change, but that you have to hide because the society around you won't accept you. Both Merlin and Morgana are always saying that they've been made to feel like a monster, an outsider, and they just want to be accepted for who they really are. And it's no coincidence that they are the most queer coded characters in the whole show.
But building off of that subtext, I think that you can read the different way that Merlin and Morgana go about trying to achieve equal rights as being an allegory for queer identity politics, where Merlin embodies this homonationalist assimilation strategy. He believes that if he stays closeted and conforms to the status quo, then eventually he will prove that sorcerers are good, moral, normal people and therefore worthy of rights. But over time, he internalises all of this shame and self-hatred and becomes increasingly obsessed with Arthur and dependent on his validation until he becomes complicit in his own oppression.
Meanwhile, Morgana represents a radical rebellion ideology. Even though she comes from a place of privilege, she quickly realises that she can't achieve meaningful change through constitutional methods and therefore resorts to violent protest. But her downfall is that she's more motivated by personal vengeance than a genuine desire for equality. So she creates a lot of infighting within the community by shunning anyone whose ideas aren't as extreme as her own, and she inadvertently confirms all of the negative stereotypes about 'angry witches' that she has been trying to fight against.
Obviously I don't think that all of this political commentary is intentional, but the basic idea of magic being gay is definitely intentional. As evidenced by this quote from the executive producer of the show, where he says very sarcastically, "some people say that (magic) is a metaphor for his sexuality, but that's just read in by them, isn't it? On no level is magic metaphorical in this show." And then Katie McGrath says, "it's funny because I don't actually think you're being sincere." And then she says directly to the audience, "Julian is lying right now."

yes I posted a Mouthwashing rant 30 minutes ago. I am posting another one. More Mouthwashing spoilers
I think the horror in Mouthwashing works so well is because you’re expecting Curly to be the main monster of the game. He’s this scary guy that acts like the mascot of Mouthwashing, and with the surge of mascot horror as of recent years you expect this dude to be the one hunting you down. Plus in the beginning you’re lead to believe curly crashed the ship, so you have this negative image of him. So just to find out that he’s just a victim of Jimmy’s actions is horrible.
Let’s talk about Jimmy for a second. For more than half the game you play as him. I think most people agree with the fact that he is the main character, you play as him, he pushes the story forward, and he is the reason why everything is happening. Having your main character being this unlikeable, evil, asshole works so well in Mouthwashing favor. Because nobody wants Jimmy to succeed. But to play the game you have to go along with his fucked up plans.
Both of these things subvert the expectations of people playing the game. Not to mention how they directly feed into each-other. For example the beginning scene. Your lead the believe curly went crazy and crashed the ship, why wouldn’t he go crazy and start attacking the crew. But obviously the truth is Jimmy crashed the ship.
We thought curly crashed the ship but instead it was Jimmy.
We thought curly was the villain but instead it was Jimmy
can you tell I’m so normal about Mouthwashing
ALSO PSA. PSA. I DONT THINK CURLY IS A GOOD GUY, HES BAD, JUST NOT IN THE WAY YOU EXPECT‼️‼️

hey y’all the relationship between warden and vega fucking fascinates me
cause honestly i have absolutely no idea on how to characterize it
like yes he calls them ‘darling’ yada yada but he almost takes a paternal(?) role when it comes to nurturing them????
he rescues them, he feeds them, he tries to reconnect them with the demonic habits they were shamed out of expressing, he teaches them and tries to subtly influence their behavior towards a possible corruption arc and just
this isn’t me trying to make their relationship weird or smth i’m just saying i have absolutely no idea how vega and wardens relationship actually works between them… not every listener and character are destined to end in a romantic relationship so that’s why i’m thinking that the relationship between warden and vega won’t become romantic and more of that weird friendship you have with your 50 year old coworker who smokes 2 packs a day.

Leaking one of my plot bunnies:
Obliviously magic Alex. Perhaps Yassen is a magic user and this is how he survived his death in Eagle Strike (alternatively, he just survived anyway). Someone (relatively neutral) in Scorpia figures out Yassen is alive and comes to him to complain. Their complaint: Alex Rider. He's been on so many missions now and survived against such extremely ridiculous odds that this person feels they have no choice but seek out and confront Yassen about knowing all along about the truth of the Rider family's ‘luck of the devil'. He's not human, wails the hapless Scorpia member, he can't be! Yassen is kind of amused. Somewhere in the world, Alex causes another explosion.
(Alex just thinks he's kind of lucky, but more than anything is done with all this ridiculous shit that keeps happening to him.)

So I deliver mail now
Though it's not really part of the job, I can and will block a street to momentarily move a turtle across. There's a lot of water in the area, so a lot of street turtles. Luckily, my temporary route is 90% back roads and neighborhoods, so I'm not actually obstructing traffic. It was a nice Saturday afternoon, so literally no one was out on the roads. I just thought this phrasing was funny.

i mean it when i say we've gotta bring back askblogs. bring back making character chat posts with poor choice text colors over random backgrounds. bring back blogs dedicated to what outfits you think characters would wear.
fandom is an ecosystem, not a numbers game. these types of blogs/posts/etc still exist in concept, because people still want to make them and they're a great way to get your thoughts of an idea out in a simple format, but most people make them on like tiktok or instagram reels and that's where the problem lies. Those videos don't go anywhere. The format doesn't allow for the discussion to spread through the community and they're less likely to be engaged with in general. And to make them most people have to either show their face or figure out editing software, so the barrier to entry is higher (editing) and/or they have to forfeit an amount of privacy.
those types of posts/blogs are the first rung of the ecosystem. they're the perfect environment for younger members of the fandom to begin safely interacting with the larger community and putting their own thoughts and ideas out there. roleplay is the other major spot for that and those communities are diminishing as well, honestly (if you know of an rp forum board site, cherish it. and if you can make one, make one). they allow younger fans to begin engaging with the source material on a different/deeper level, but still at a very low barrier to entry, and begin conversations with other fans, which also helps them build skills which in turn may encourage them to pursue other avenues within the fandom (fic writing, other formats of askblog - which itself usually leads to art, cosplay, also fic writing, etc). Without those places to build those skills, they might feel discouraged from trying to begin when surrounded by curated people who have built their skills up for years.
And those conversations they foster also in turn help the community, by offering ideas to artists or fic writers to extrapolate on or building community jokes. And that text/blog format specifically is extremely beneficial, because it allows younger members of the fandom to remain anonymous and keep their privacy without concerning themselves with having any platform or having anything attached to them (very important for young fans figuring themselves out and navigating online community spaces for the first time, since they can remove themselves from spaces easily if they decide they don't like it and they're protected, rather than PUTTING THEIR FACE ON THE INTERNET). And those posts they make will spread a lot more into the community since they're in a significantly easier format to be reposted (few people are gonna be reposting tons of random short-form videos versus spamming their instagrams with reposts of 10 random fandom images yoinked from tumblr, or reposting to pinterest or something). Like, don't repost art, at the VERY least don't repost without credit, but also I am not ignorant to the fact that my art is not just the first google image result for "pjo pride" and related searches, but also the 4th, the 6th, the 9th, the 10th, the 11th, etc etc., and pops up in the search results before the official ReadRiordan does simply because people reposted my work more (most with credit, thankfully).
For fandom to be a community, it needs to perpetuate itself. There needs to be engagement with one another and conversation. If that bottom rung is cut off, then new fans won't be able to grow into the other niches of the fandom, and the fandom will be solely reliant on the source material and die out extremely quickly, and there won't be a community. There's no conversation! There's no reason to stay beyond the original material! But if you don't have points of entry for new fans, they won't have any way to build the skills needed to move into those niches, or engage with the community in a healthy way.
tl;dr: Bring back askblogs and character-based text post blogs. They are vital to fandom ecosystem.
