#in the show they took Stephen out of this scene idk why

This scene in the book is so funny because Thomas isn't saying a word and just sitting there while Stephen and Anne are arguing back and forth about him.
Stephen very much carries the "no one is allowed to harass my husband except me" vibes. Because I'm just envisioning Anne and Stephen going at each other and Thomas is just quietly standing behind Stephen in the background lmao.
#also anne and Stephen are so similar#i do believe henry and Thomas could've just gotten up and left and Stephen and anne would've still been arguing#Henry looking at thomas like ādamn are wives hate each other šš¤ā#like the have the queens of arguing in the room and throughout this whole dialogue#when anne pretends stephen isn't there he makes his presence known and it's just a battle of the petties ft a staring henry and thomas#in the show they took Stephen out of this scene idk why#but thomas was quiet af š#Thomas knows he has a good defense with Stephen which is why he's probably not saying anything#but this is what I mean when i say he's Stephen's purse Chihuahua#also ignoring the fact that Thomas kinda throws Stephen to the wolves after this and doesn't defend him back lol#i know Stephen felt really dumb šš¤·šæāāļø

1, 4 + 5 boooooook
1: What's something you read recently and enjoyed?
The Langoliers by Stephen King! it's about a group of passengers who wake up mid-flight to discover the rest of the passengers and crew have completely vanished, and upon landing at an airport they discover it wasn't just the plane - there's no one on the ground either. something has gone very wrong with the world around them... and there's a worrying rumbling noise coming from the east, and it sounds like it's getting closer.
it's not his most popular book, probably partly due to the fucking garbage tv mini-series that was made shortly after it published, but this book was excellent! it filled me with dread from start to finish, and i actually felt like i had to read it faster so that the characters wouldn't run out of time haha.
absolutely loved it, strongly recommend!
4: What are your top 3 comfort reads?
you probably could have guessed this but the Skulduggery Pleasant books, specifically 4 and 5 in conjunction. they really do transition 4 to 5 so seamlessly man, it's a perfect pairing and i fucking LOVE the plot of 5.
i think Catch-22 deserves a spot because it was a big part of my reading during Covid 2020. it took a long time for me to *get* it, but when the penny finally dropped and i understood it, i suddenly understood this was a new favourite for me and devoured the rest in record time. man, i really wanna read it again, i'll do that after i move lol
also Enid Blyton's Faraway Tree books, they were really comforting when as an early teenager i was at a friend's place and he showed me 1000 Ways to Die and a few Final Destination scenes on YouTube. i know it's not much (especially because i'm a big fan of violence in media now) but at the time it was really confronting because i hadn't seen anything like it and it made me realise how fragile life can be. laugh at me all you want for being disturbed by that at 14 but i knew they'd help because i remembered they were the least violent books i'd ever read. and it worked, they kept my mind off it and i came out feeling a lot better.
so i guess the top 3 list is:
ā¢ Skulduggery Pleasant: Dark Days & Mortal Coil
ā¢ Catch-22
ā¢ The Faraway Tree books
5: What is your favourite non-fiction book?
man i don't even remember the last non-fiction book i read... if essay books count as non-fiction then the last one i read was The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck in 2016 or 17, and it was just ok. i think trying to read the sequel, Everything is Fucked, taught me that i don't give a shit about books of essays.
other than that i remember one of my favourite books as a kid was Why? Why? Why? which was a book full of fun facts about various topics from history to science and other stuff like that. it had heaps of illustrations and on one of the pages was a step-by-step graphic on how stars die, and when i was like 9 i swapped stages 3 and 4 with a pen because i liked the way 3 looked better and wanted that to be how it ended haha.
idk i don't really read non-fiction, it's never really appealed to me. i think those shitty textbooks we had in high school kinda soured me on it... but i know it'll be important to read nf to be a better writer so i'll get to it eventually lol
anyway them's the answers, here's the questions!

My thoughts on RWRB, in no particular order because my brain doesn't work like that:
SPOILERS AHEAD
These are my opinions/thoughts after the first watch through (of course I'm gonna re-watch several times) but don't be mad at me please I'm sensitive
Things I loved
I spent the first full hour smiling and laughing. It put the Com in Romcom. And then the lake scene plunged me into a pit of despair, but in a good way.
Alex was Alex and Henry and was Henry. Like Nick and Taylor really got their characters and did them so much justice and the chemistry was chemistry-ing
Miguel! He was fun and flirty. I wasn't expecting him at all but I think his addition really worked for two reasons: it saved Alex time in figuring out his sexuality so we get ahead into him + Henry, and it gave an explanation for the leaking of the emails without being as politically charged as in the book, because some people, especially if they're not American, don't care about that part as much
Amy is so fucking funny
Zahra is even more funny
Casting! Pez was perfect! Philip was amazing! Papa Diaz delivered the dad vibes for sure. I wish Bea had more screen time. Shaan was good (and very handsome) And don't get me started on UMA FUCKING THERMAN!!
I know we'd have preferred to have both June and Nora but I think that for the purpose she served to the plot just Nora was fine. Movie!Nora was a combination of book!Nora and June. It worked.
GET LOW GET LOW GET LOW
Henry pretending to look for a book when Amy comes into the red room absolutely killeddddd me
Ellen talking about getting Alex on Truvada. Real AF.
Henry doing karaoke!
"I thought Alexander Gabriel Claremont-Diaz was a mouthful." "He is."
"Shut up stop talking" and "You're late", followed by him trying to close the door
The texting/messaging and emails. They included enough for you to get the idea and to show the passage of time and they did in a cool way that didn't take too much of the screen time. Also Henry being "in the room" when they're on the phone was so cute!
Alex being nervous and awkward about having sex with Henry was perfect! It felt very real
Criticisms:
Henry going to fidget with his ring,realizing Alex is wearing it, and that little smile at each other. Fucking beautiful
Alex reading OLS
I wanted Henry singing God save the King
We didn't get to see Catherine? But at least she didn't get Juned.
No powerpoint??? Even though Ellen giving him the talk was plenty funny.
Fucking eyelashes! Miguel mentioned them, but I don't think Herny did? Why notttt??
Random but I would have rather had the conversation in the tack room than the whole polo mantage. We get it, he's hot.
Leo?!? I knew June wasn't there but his parents still being together was so random to me? Not necessarily bad just random.
I really wanted to see Alex standing in the rain...also the dialog there kinda threw me off? Like I know it was heartfelt and emotional or whatever but the "and I'll bother you no longer" part didn't feel like that version of Alex. Kinda took me out of the moment.
Maybe I just wanted more Stephen Fry, but that resolution was a little too easy/cheesy
Idk if it was my ADHD or Taylor's pronunciation but I had to turn on the subtitles because I kept not understanding him?
Questions:
Did they have to change Henry's name? Like bc of the actual royal family?
Can the presidents spouse still have a seat in Congress? Is that allowed?

Five children's stories or animated shows that if adapted to live action with a more adult theme would make the best horror movies?
Well, unfortunately for you lovers of bimbo listification this is gonna be more of an essay than a cohesive list because fuck you i do what i want
Children's stories is pretty vague, i mean we all know and have seen horror adaptations of some of that shit. Hansel and Gretel comes to mind, Little Red Riding Hood if you took it a similar arthouse A24 direction, there's The Three Billy Goats Gruff, which inspired both Stephen King's It and Mike Flanagan's first film, Absentia. Then there's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, which definitely CAN be made very dark and surreal horror, but it still comes across as incredibly Edgy as American McGee discovered to his edgelord cost
If you're talking about like kids' books, i'm not super familiar, i mean obviously there's a ton of young adult books with horrifying shit in them a la The Keys to the Kingdom. Oh, Darren Shan's Demonata, which just were straight-up horror i haven't the faintest idea why they thought that shit was okay to market to kids.
The thing is, i'm generally pretty against the grimdarkification of children's media, particularly animation. It tends to be boring and it carries this unnecessary baggage of having been children's media first so any attempt to make it adult is already a fool's errand.Ā And i know we all have this weird ingrained idea like live-action movies or shows for adults are the highest form of media, but there's shit that just doesn't work in that medium just like anything else.
That SAAAAID I have a few ideas of things that maybe could have been horror movies instead of kidsā shows aaaaand idk i'll do my best, because i'm a good sport.
I mean, the other problem is that i can remember EPISODES of kids' shows that would make good horror movies. Samurai Jack XXXV: "Jack and the Haunted House" springs to mind since i just watched it. There was also the Teen Titans Episode "Fear Itself," which set itself up basically like a horror movie. But then, of course, we're adapting a show adapting comic books, so we're really adapting comic books, so idk if that even counts
But the point is, neither of those shows have horror or even spookiness as the principal underlying theme.
Shows like that, i can only think of three. Scooby-Doo, hear me through, don't interrupt. It would have to be a horror-comedy, and not an edgy one. Like...Tucker and Dale vs Evil. The shit happening is horrifying, but Tucker and Dale are very wholesome dudes trying their best. That kind of thing. You can't fuck with Mystery Inc.'s characterization but as Zombie Island and that one scene from the live action movie that scared the shit out of me as a kid proved, you CAN make the world they live in scary. Assuming you don't absolutely shit the creature design looking at u Scoby-Doo 2 Monsters Unleashed
Then there's Martin Mystery, which i remember fondly as having genuinely unsettling monsters of the week that were pretty unique twists on classic fairy tale and mythological monsters but unfortunately, i tried to watch it again recently due to said fond memories and turns out it's a bit crap. BUT y'know the whole Paranormal X-Files theme is as good as any you're gonna get from a kid's show.
And finally, Courage the Cowardly Dog, which you could change VERY little about and have it translate to horror. Hell, if anything, making it live action but just keeping certain characters animated in weird ways would make it more surreal and unnerving. Freaky Fred haunts my nightmares
I hope that was enough half-assed answers to satisfy you, i wasn't keeping count but you did ask me a loaded question and i'm not watchmojo

hi. if you would like. infodump. about literally anything. games, books, hc's, etc. ramble to your hearts content. if you don't want to, have these funky guys as an offering of peace
I read the worry worm and it made me so happy. Kind of having an anxiety moment(tm) so sorry if this is wild
Time to info dump on my blog about IT. I love everything about IT but IT. I think the concept of a monster that attacks people using their imagination and can therefore also only be defeated by imagination is ingenious. The idea that it feeds off of hate because hate creates fear and the way someone could use this to explore the fear minorities faced during certain time periods and how we should be working together to make everyone feel safer otherwise we are the real monsters? Peak horror
The idea that Pennywise is more of an allegory for the monsters that is bigotry and hate????? Using the outcasts as one of the ones to defeat the monster???? yes please!!
Sadly, Stephen fucking King wrote the book and no movie adaption has been able to do the concept justice. Stephen King is my enemy must I explain why his delivery is terrible??? The movies only feed on this more by not explaining the monster and not delving into the themes. Also, ironically, the bigotry of everyone gets in the way of fully exploring the story and it's themes.
Not to mention a million things that could have been cut. Using Native American culture as a plot device???? No thanks ! The kids winning by... bullying... the monster????? Delete from my mind.
The scary moments are also awfullllll. Mostly discussing 2017/2019 because I am more familiar with them. Eddie's nightmare????? Delete delete delete. I need something new. Fresh. Not this weird zombie rip off?????? What???? Also, if we are going with the being gay in the 80s angle along with also having a fear of being sick, there are so many ways we could go !! Oh, and Richie ! I love him but he also needed a better fear. They actually went with the clown thing which is hilarious. The fear of death could have been a good way to go too but they barely delve into that. Oh, also, I think in the movies they should have explored more of his fear of losing his sight. That could be good. And all these fears can be tied into the marginalization of the characters in a way to tie by to the themes
Also Mike, Mike my main man is the only one with a scary fear scene. Only complaint is there wasn't more of them !! Also they took Mikes thing away from him and gave it to Ben only to give it back to him in chapter 2????? Weird but go off I guess. I think the movie could also delve more into his trauma and more so to tie back to the.... āØthemeāØ
Ben does not have a scary scene until chapter 2. This is also a good scary scene. 10/10. Just I needed more ! Also, Ben should not become... "super hot" Ben deserving of love if he is conventually attractive or not
Bill... Work yourself out Bill. Love Bill. Don't know what's wrong with him but love him. Play more into his guilt. Stop showing the fucking clown. Oooo, a good idea could be that maybe Bill hears Georgie's voice sometimes. The idea that Georgie is still out there and he is doing nothing constantly haunts him as he feels as if he continues to fail his brother.
Bev... Bev my beloved. She's perfect. The movie did the best with her trauma (best for the movie that is) by adding the hair cutting. Still don't know why Stephen Kings only plot for women is periods. He should get that checked out or smth idk. I would just explore more her pain of getting bullied. It can't be easy on her to have the constant weight of society's views of her.
Also, cut the weird copaganda shit out of the movie. No, I will not sympathize with Henry but I also don't think the movie should want me to cheer on cops beating the shit out of him??? Jesus.
I could go on my I shall not. End of story, someone hire me to direct IT pls pls pls. I swear I will let the gays kiss. I swear it
#ask#moots#quinnick answers#IT#IT chapter 2#it stephen king#I talk a lot in the Richie and Eddie section but that is because I understand their storyline the most#and can speak on it

Would love to see you go off about Zukka mah guy š (and then idk Zukaang š)
Oh, you want me to go off on tumblr, comrade? ON TUMBLR!?
Okay.
First, let me start by saying to my followers that I'm a very mellow kind of guy. If I dislike something you like or even love, there's nothing wrong with that. Live and let live, whatever floats your boat. So long as no one goes out of their way to be a dick to people, no one should be getting hate or harassment for what they enjoy. Just because I'm not in your lane doesn't mean I'm going to throw a molotov cocktail over to see if someone crashes. My parents raised me better than that. Plus, if I find posts I don't like, I block them. If I find people who annoy me, I block them. These are good pieces of advice, my friends.
That all being said, I'm not going to hold back when I decide to speak my mind, and zukka is fucking terrible. If it was a rarepair with only a small audience, I wouldn't care. It wouldn't rustle any of my jimmies, it wouldn't grind more than a single nerve if at all. But because it's so fucking popular I have to see that shit so frequently. I see talented fanartists use their talents on that ship and I frown cus that energy should be spent on better outlets.
Zuko and Sokka ain't got nothing to build a romance on from canon. The deepest their conversation goes is, "I love my girlfriend." "My girlfriend is awesome too." "Sucks that yours turned into the moon, my dude." Zukka is only as popular as it is because they're both almost 18 and they're conventionally attractive and masculine. The funny (and infuriating) thing on that last part is that a lot of zukka shippers want to feminize the ship by putting them in soft colors, softening their features, and/or putting them more in touch with their emotions and feminine side. This is bad because they will flat out ignore their canon personalities/aesthetics and also badmouth Aang, a man who is canonically in touch with his feelings and feminine side and is super confident in his softer side. This boy will wear a flower crown with a smile. Your fave will canonically never.
(I don't have time to get into why fandoms will feminize masculine men instead of thoughtfully engaging with men who are canonically in touch with their fem side, but the point is there. I will also say that a lot of zukka content is clearly not created by actual MLM. No disrespect to real MLM zukkas, but your club is full of straight girls and also your ship is terrible)
Zukka content, from what I've seen and heard of, is full of bad characterizations that ignore the show and flat out make shit up, and shippers will also make shit up to badmouth other characters. Zukka is so bad that it harms both of them and everyone around them. Just for an example on the two boys themselves:
.Zuko is not an uwu soft boi, this man used to terrorize villages on a weekly basis. If you ignore or try to minimize the parts of a redemption arc where the character was a fucking villain/antagonist, you are doing the character a disservice.
.Sokka is intelligent and it's great that he put in the work to unlearn sexism, but he's not Stephen Hawking and he was pretty sexist. He GREW over the course of the series, but stans and zukka shippers (which is a venn diagram with a huge middle) try to pretend that he was actually perfect from the very beginning. Also, if you honestly think that scenes of Sokka being the butt of a joke (which are 9/10 hilarious) are abusive on the writer or the other characters' part, do yourself a favor: never hang out with Irish people. Google may describe slagging each other as abusive, but it's really not. Slagging is a treasured past time of our people between family and friends.
If every cringey incorrect quotes post was a ship, it would be zukka. Zukka is overflowing with jaded klance shippers who took their bullshit from Voltron and fired it upon ATLA en masse like Persian archers at Thermopylae. Zukka is a notp. I will never write for it, I will never willingly seek out content of it, and if any pissbabies want to start shit over this 100% accurate argument, I will laugh at anything you send me.
As for zukaang, that ship do go deep. "If he's your love interest, why is he my narrative foil?" Protagonist/deuteragonist is top tier shipping, as is enemies to lovers. Their relationship, both on a micro scale as individual people and on a macro scale as the avatar and fire prince, is the cornerstone of the plots of some of the best episodes in the series, including The Storm, The Blue Spirit, The Avatar and the Fire Lord, and the Firebending Masters.
I sadly haven't read much of it, and I raise my eyebrow at just how much abo there is of such a relatively small ship, but I think zukaang is a great ship.
I hate that I spent so much time trashing a bad ship and so little praising a good one, but that's how it be sometimes.

Something that I haven't seen discussed much is how MoM makes Wong a really, really incompetent Sorcerer Supreme. He's less powerful than Stephen and relies on Stephen's sorcery/leadership on almost every fight. He's not a good leader, either. Sara just sacrificed herself, let's negate that by selling out the multiverse for four people and oh let's do a 180 and then choose to sacrifice America why not nothing matters in this movie anyway. TAO is rolling in her grave. DSitMoM is so š©
I absolutely love Wong guys. Like this man is everything I hope to be. Heās reliable, sensible, no nonsense, and competent as fuck. I wanna be like Wong š But MoM took all the great stuff I loved about him and flipped it. He just comes across as a very poor leader. That whole scene where Wandaās attacking Kamar Taj was frustrating. Like look at all these fucking sorcerers and no one got creative with their magic? They just used shields and canons? What is this? That could have been a great time for Wong really show why heās the Sorcerer Supreme. Have him really stand toe to toe with Wanda. But nope. He just yells unhelpful commands then gives up.
Thatās another thing. Wong gives up too easily in MoM. He gives up easily when Wanda blasted through KT. He gives up the multiverse when Wandaās torturing those 4 near-dead sorcerers. And he gives up when he tells Stephen to take Americaās powers. Idk man it just really, really bugged me. In the other films he comes across as so prepared and competent and here itās like he got a job he was unqualified for. I wonder if that was intentional just to make Stephen look like a better fit for Supreme? If that was the case, gross. Thereās no need to degrade one character to make the other look better. But unfortunately that seems to be a favorite technique the writing in MoM uses.

X-Men Abridged: 1975
The X-Men, those super dramatic mutants that have sworn to protect a world that hates and fears them, are a cultural juggernaut with a long, tangled history. Want to unravel this tapestry? Then read the Abridged X-Men!
(X-Men 94 - 96) - by Chris Claremont, Len Wein and Dave Cockrum
You think I wonāt automatically be able to include a powerful Storm-moment in every instalment? Watch me. Claremont is a much bigger Storm-fan than I am. (X-Men 96)
So, originally, the plan for the All-New X-Men wouldāve been very different: the series would have remained Giant-Sized and it wouldāve come out four times per year. This format would have allowed enough room to split focus between thirteen team-members. However, when the Krakoa-issue turned out to be crazily uncannily astonishingly popular, the series became a bi-monthly series. This necessitated some changes, especially in the roster.
Also, thereās this new writer? Chris Claremont? idk man, he seems a little dramatic
The first thing this new kid on the block does, is clean house: he jettisons almost all of the original X-Men, except for Cyclops. In a tear-filled goodbye, we finally get our first on-panel kiss between Jean and Scott. Fucking finally, only took you twelve years, but also: aw.
Cāmon Scott, you can try long distance! Consider the benefits, like not having to look at your girlfriend dressing like a Hart-of-Dixie villain. (And donāt think youāre off the hook, Lorna. You look like a Christmas ornament) (X-Men 94)
Sunfire, surprising no-one, also leaves. (For real this time.) Iāve always wondered what the original plan for him would have been, but considering there are two other grumpy and angry rebels on the team (Thunderbird and Wolverine), I understand why Shiro would be a little redundant. It is a shame that itās a POC that gets discarded, especially considering what happens later.
No time for absent souls, letās get into the plot! Thunderbird desperately wants to prove himself, while Scott wants him to show some restraint. They butt heads and T-bird gets hurt during training. Despite his injury, he insisting he joins the team on their next mission! Because itās the Avenging Ex-X-Man Beast who calls for aid.
I love that Beast brushes aside this almost entirely new team of X-Men just as easily as my aunt brushed aside the new boyfriend I brought home for Christmas. (X-Men 94)
As an aside, Iām assuming yāall know what happened to the Beast: in the Avengers, he experimented on himself and turned himself furry and blue. One of his most iconic moments! (And it didnāt even happen in an X-Men comic.)
Count Nefaria has once again allied himself with a team of silly super-villains and invaded the NORAD (North-American Air Command) in order to ransom the entire world with nuclear weapons. When the X-Men approach, Count Nefaria shoots them from the sky and we get one of the hallmarks of Claremontās writing: the sometimes unnecessarily DRAMATIC CLIFFHANGER! Because the issue ends as the X-Men plummet to their FOR SURE INEVITABLE deathsā¦
Except, you know, Colossus doesnāt really do falling damage and Storm and Banshee can fly.
Look, realistically, all of them wouldāve hit the ground somewhere around Kurtās second sentence. (X-Men 95)
When everyone is safely down, Nightcrawler teleports inside the base and lets the rest of the X-Men in. Colossus gets to shine by protecting the rest of them from bullets, while Storm washes the hypnotized soldiers away with a quick flood. They fight the Ani-Men but the two X-Men who havenāt had the time to shineā¦ are promptly knocked out.
āGort wanted to take out that mutant, so Gort just threw the first thing Gort could find.ā
āWhich was?ā
āAnother mutant.ā (X-Men 95)
Banshee and Thunderbird perform pretty poorly, while the other X-Men try and stop the Doomsday Clock that Nefaria started.
Itās a little confusing how the clock is stopped - somehow, all the fighting and ruckus in the base stopped the clock from going to zero, preventing the launching of the nukes? Seems like a design flaw, US government! Anyway, the Doomsday Clock is not the focus of this story, not really: this is a story about John Proudstar and his desperate need to prove himself. In order to stop Count Nefaria from escaping, the heretofore useless John jumps on his plane and begins tearing at it.
Itās a foolish plan. The plane ascends and begins to smoke while John keeps pulling off bits and pieces. Banshee gives chase, screaming at Thunderbird to get the fuck off that thing (laddie). Butā¦
Just like John, Charles doesnāt recognize a hopeless situation when heās right in the middle of it and is just as unwilling to let go. (X-Men 95)
Now, John Proudstar is not entirely unproblematic as a character. With Storm, they get things mostly right, especially considering what decade this was and how white Marvel was. Thunderbird, on the other hand, veers dangerously close to becoming a nasty indigenous stereotype, especially considering his outfit and attitude. Claremont will redeem himself in the future by writing much better characters that are Cheyenne and Apache - Forge, Mirage, Warpath - but as it stands now? John is barely a flat character and itās a shame that, after writing out Sunfire, the first character to die is also a POC.
And yet, despite the fact that this storyline is Claremontās first X-Men attempt, and despite the fact that itās uneven, over-dramatic and has a silly villain, it still takes balls to kill a member of a barely established team. (Especially considering the time and age.) And, while the plotting is a bit thin, the moment where Xavier feels Thunderbird die is pretty effective.
The next story is a lot more typically Claremont, and a lot better. Back in Westchester, Emo!Scott, in all his failure-as-a-leader, someone-died-on-my-watch anguish, damages a cairn when he lets loose. Randomly, this is a capstone to some demonic dimension and Scotty accidentally unleashes a demon.
CanĀ“t you imagine this scene being a lot funnier if the yellow panels are just Claremont shouting at Cyclops? Canāt you?! Canāt you?! (X-Men 96)
Meanwhile, Stephen Lang, an anti-mutant army-man, wants to kick off Project Armageddon, which builds on themes established by the Trasks. Michael Rossi, a colonel who gets imported from the Ms. Marvel-lines Claremont was working on before, wants to hear none of this, so Stephen has a little accident arranged.
Back in the mansion, a surprise new addition to the cast arrives!
Maybe housekeeper was one of the identities Moira X had tried out in a previous life, before quickly realizing that being a scientist would better suit her purposes. (X-Men 96)
Her welcome is rudely interrupted by the arrival of the demon!
More like Unholy Hannah, amirite? (X-Men 96)
Both Wolverine and Storm get their chance to shine, before Storm manages to restore the cairn and lock out the demon invasion. And this is where Claremont actually shines. Heās great at building concurrently running storylines, teasing future plots instead of making it a mishmash of X-Men being attacked by random villains. Furthermore, he actually uses action scenes to further the plot or give depth to his characters. Deftly, he introduces Wolverineās berserker side and teases at Stormās claustrophobia. Check it out:
Hey, James, I think your barbarian just unlocked the berserker rage feat. (X-Men 96)
Sure, Claremont sometimes makes the X-Men little more than a superhero soap opera, but he does it so well. Weāre truly in a new era now. I canāt wait.
For Whom the Death Tolls: Thunderbird. One of the few X-Men for whom death is actually a sort of permanent state. Has he been spotted on Krakoa yet?
What could have been: Imagine X-Men if Sunfire or Thunderbird had taken the place of āangry lonerā on the team, instead of Wolverine. Also, I wonder why Claremont never bothered to connect the demons under the cairn to Limbo - the NāGarai are an entirely separate dimension. Maybe Westchester is just a hotbed of demonic activity.
What to read: None of it is truly pivotal, but X-Men 94 and 95 are hallmarks for the death of Thunderbird. X-Men 96 should be on your reading list if youāre a fan of Wolverine and Storm.

My notes, comments, ramblings, etc on Infinity War and End Game. Read if interested. I just wanna let some things out.
(Mostly humor not like serious nitpicking)
(***Spoilers***)
Thor deserves so much better. Marvel has done SO MUCH to him and taken SO MUCH away.
At least he got to see his mother again, that was nice.
Also, WHY HEIMDALL?? WHY??? I loved him š£
And of course Loki š I hope they bring him back some how. Like I know they have another Loki for the series, but that Loki doesn't know about anything from the other movies. That wont be the Loki we all fell in love with. Surely I will love the Loki series Loki, but it's not quite the same.
It's like starting over with Gamora. Like, I'm glad they had a way of bringing her back, but now they have to start all over again. She doesn't have any memory of her with the others, it sucks.
I also wish Loki had been there the whole time. Like him fighting side by side with the Avengers????
I didn't really care for the route they took with Thor. They rapidly changed his character. And obviously he had trauma and ptsd but they dealt with it in a more joking way, they could have done better with that.
Also I don't really like how they had Clint deal with losing his family. Like his anger took over and it sort of made sense, but at the same time I didn't care for it. He had such strong morals and kindness and they through those out the window.
I'm kind of sad Lupita Nyong'o wasn't in either of the movies.
I'm glad they got rid of Doctor Strangers yellow gloves. Those were horrible lmao.
Also, why didn't Nat or Vision get a funeral? I get Tony was Iron Man, but they could have done something? Like? SMOETHING.
Squidward face psychic guy was creepy
I wish Fury and Carol had a proper scene together.
How did everyone at the End Game battle have ear pieces? (not counting the ones who were dusted in Wakanda) Like Wasp talked to Cap through one. Carol can hear Steve when she suddenly shows up. Did she already have one? Does someone on the team always have a handful of earpieces in their pockets to give out to those who showed up for the first time?
Peter (Starlord) frustrated me SO MUCH during this movie. Like I still love him but GOD DAMN dude shut up sometimes lmao. (Don't hate me for this please, they just cranked up his attitude x5 in this movie).
I'm glad they gave Nebula more of a character; I also liked the relationship she built with Tony.
I'm sad we didn't get more T'Challa, especially since we've lost Chadwick. š£
I'm glad we got quite a bit of Okoye though, I love her so much.
Oh yeah, RED SKULL? I had seen a lot of spoilers over the last few years, but I never saw that lmao, so when I saw his face I was like HOLD ON A SECOND.
Also, Nat. š That scene was so good and so horrible at the same time.
Smart Hulk. I just...don't know how I feel about that. I liked him a bit, but i wish it was temporary.
Like, I kind of agree with Valkyrie. I liked you either of the ways you were before.
Bruce was FINALLY able to be with Natasha and have time with her, and instead he decided to do THAT with his time? Like dude what?
Also, how did Steve staying back in time not fuck everything up? Like, Stephen would be furious right? Like, what are you doing?
That being said, I'm glad he got to have the life he wanted and was able to be happy.
AND, I want to see what Steve had to do to put all the stones back at the moments they took them. Did he meet the Ancient One like Bruce did?
WHAT DID HE DO WHEN HE SAW RED SKULL WHEN HE RETURNED THE SOUL STONE???? WHAT DID RED SKULL DO WHEN HE SAW STEVE???
TELL ME??? IF HE WENT BACK IN TIME AND RETURNED THE SOUL STONE TO BEFORE NAT SACRIFICING HERSELF. WOULDNT THAT BRING HER BACK???
No it was permanent right? Because she wasn't from THAT timeline? technically? Or something?? idk. I'm just sad about that.
Also, How did the other Asguardians survive?
Were they not on the ship with Thor and the others? It takes place right at the end of Ragnarok doesn't it? There on the ship that was completely destroyed? Did I miss something?
So how did they live and how did they make it to Earth? Did they have some form of escape pod some of them were able to get away on before Thanos got to them? Like, you never see Valkyrie until End Game, so how did she live and surive with the others lie Meik and Korg?
I think that's it.
I'll reblog with more thoughts if I have them.
xx

Hey, you still up for the fandom meme thing xD? How about A, P, and Z? P.S. I love your stories and works ššš
Ssksjsks thank you! I am so glad you like
---
A: Oh-ho current OTPs... well thereās my Ironstrange boys, of course. I love the dynamic between them, the way their proclivities match each otherās vulnerabilities. I love the situations canon presents for them (the fourteen million futures; meetings around and through canon stories; the scientist drawn to magic and the scientist who makes his own--and the fact that that phrase can mean both of them interchangeably!) and I love to ignore those situations, on occasion. I enjoy the way insult and attitude expose the nuance of emotion between them, ranging from adoration to desolation. I just really love them okay.
I also Ship-with-a-capital-S Castiel and Dean (Spn). Thereās a reason that pairingās so popular! The intense power of Castielās inhumanness gives him strength, but also sort of innocence when it comes to the ways of Earth and emotion. I really like how that matches up with Deanās raw humanity--even as the show (somewhat awkwardly, but we all know you canāt trust canon) explores questions of what it means to be human and what it takes to be good.Ā
Last one I promise--I adore Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian from their representations in MDZS and the Untamed. This was the first international fandom I really got into, and the pairing comes from a canon love story in the book the story comes from. Of course, itās undermined on screen because of Chinaās censorship laws, but that almost makes it more appealing--because thereās so much subtext! I love the pairing of the lonely, broken prince drawn to a true, deep love for the wild hero of war and morality, the hero who turns to darkness, away from his world and the prince. Until the two are drawn back together for a new quest--and a second chance they didnāt know theyād get. Itās great.Ā

P: INVENT A RANDOM AU! ALRIGHTY THEN. How about an AU where the magic of a society is sort of worked into glass. And the people who use magic weave it into blown-glass figures called golems, which can then move around. To make any old figure into a golem you have to connect it to one of your five senses, and that connects you with it as well. Eg. a golem you're connected to via sight allows you to see through its eyes (if you create it with a pair).Ā
But, if the golem is destroyed, you lose the corresponding sense. It stops working. So there's strategy involved; if you create a golem to simply be a soldier or defender, you may want to connect it to your sense of smell or taste instead of hearing or sight. But there's more! Because it's never enough with me apparently! The different properties of glass determine different characteristics of a golem.
Ā > Reflective-ness gives the golem soul and self-awareness almost, making it more alive. However, the more reflective, the harder it is for you to get it to do what you want.Ā
> Color gives the golem more energy and keeps it active longer, but much more easily controlled by other glassblowers/people who create golems. More on control later.
> Transparency gives a longer reach between glassblower and golem that the golem will still respond to changing orders. But transparency is incompatible with reflectivity, and the two cancel each other out if you try to build them into one figure.Ā
So! When you create a golem you give it one of your senses and you give it a Purpose or an Order, which is then its sole point in life. When it completes that order, it dissolves with no affect to its creator. If you locate a golem using the sense it is connected to, you can control it and "use" its creatorās sense. So like, if you SAW a SIGHT golem, you would be able to SEE through its creatorās eyes.Ā
SO YEAH, AU where the magicās super weird and aesthetic because thatās how I roll.Ā

Z: Uhm... idk what to do for this one so Iāll just drabble something Ironstrangey.Ā
āHow did you know?ā
Stephen jerked his head up, spinning in his chair toward the source of the voice. One Tony Stark glared back at him, aura sparking with furious ruby colors, though Stephen didnāt think they were directed at him, this time.Ā
Monday morning had come early, and Stephen had been drifting towards slumber all day: at breakfast, on the subway, against his internshipās doorway, and again now. But the anxious anger of Tonyās aura left no room for drowsiness.Ā
The young man looked tired, too, at least physically, which was likely Stephenās fault. His aura was duller, and he sported drifting shadows beneath his eyes and what looked like a bruise along his jawbone. Had he started Saturday night hacking into the hospitalās records, or had he waited until Sunday?Ā
āDid you find them?ā Stephen asked, pivoting to fully face Stark.
āFind what?ā Tony demanded. āThat there was another car? Which killed my parents and left the scene before it could be identified, leaving unknown or accidental motive? You mean that? That you somehow know?ā His hands gesticulated wildly, his eyes wide with somewhat desperate confusion.Ā
āI wasnāt driving the other car or anything, if thatās what you mean,ā Stephen said, forcibly staring Tony down.
The other man didnāt budge. āWhy should I believe you? How did you know? Why would you tell me?ā he snarled, leaning closer, his hands braced against the blacktop table. The proximity of his aura prickled against Stephenās skin, bringing involuntary unease up his throat, but Stephen refused to shrink away.Ā
āBecause I want to help you find who was in that car,ā he snarled back.Ā
Wait.
Tony pulled back.Ā
What?
āWhat?ā demanded Stark, his face a mix between suspicious and perplexed. It was all Stephen could do not to mimic the expression.Ā
Tonyās face dropped to flatness after a flash, however, and so did his voice; āno you donāt.ā
Youāre right. No I donāt!
But going back on the story now would only make the man more suspicious. āI do. And I think you need help, too.ā
Although going along with the story would tie him into something long and intricate and not at all what he could afford to be doingā
āHow can you help me?ā Tony demanded, his aura flashing with what could have been disbelief.
Well, at least he hadnāt dismissed Stephen outright.Ā
No, wrong; damn, he hadnāt dismissed Stephen outright.Ā
Desperately trying to decide if that was a good or bad thing, Stephen vaguely recalled that Tony had asked him a question. āYouād be surprised,ā he said. He forced himself to focus on Tonyās face and not his shifting cobalt aura.Ā
And to his utter shock, the face crumpled. Just slightly, but it was accentuated by the sudden pang of sepiaāwhich Stephen took to mean brokenness in this instanceāin the colors around the man. āIāve had enough surprises,ā Tony murmured, slumping into his seat and turning his gaze away. His spine curved enough that Stephen could see the sharp edges of his vertebrae.Ā
Stephen swallowed and spun towards the desk himself. Unconsciously, he matched Tonyās posture, still watching him out of the corner of his eye. The man likely wouldnāt pursue conversation again.
Say something.
Good; maybe heād forget Stephenās instinctual offer. Maybe he wouldnāt realize that Stephen had never answered the āhow do you know?ā
Say something.Ā
Maybe now Stephen could finally be left alone. Perhaps his little slip hadnāt been as catastrophic as heād thought.Ā
āDoes Peter know?ā
What the hell, Stephen Strange.Ā
Tony glanced at him sharply. āYou fucking told the kidāyeah, real great move there, just drop that on the nine-year-old and haul ass. Very brave.ā
Stephen didnāt flinch. āI didnāt tell him what happened. I thought it was better that way.ā
A sigh. āWhatever.ā

There we go! Hope that was fun--it was fun for me. Thanks for asking!!!

OKAY I AM BACK FROM DEAR EVAN HANSEN
IT WAS INCREDIBLE!! STEPHEN CHRISTOPHER ANTHONY WAS ON TODAY (JULY 11 MATINEE) AND HE WAS SO GOOD OMG. THE ENTIRE CAST WAS SUPER AWESOME, I ESPECIALLY LOVED ZOE (MAGGIE MCKENNA) AND HER VOICE, IT WAS SO PRETTY. I WROTE DOWN EVERYTHING I COULD REMEMBER:
Act 1
In Sincerely Me it looked kinda like Jared was trying to find like any excuse to touch Evan, it was adorable, like he was draping his arm around Evanās shoulders whenever he could and pushing his shoulders into Evanās while he squatted down to write some emails, and then when he jumped into the dancing at the end he was slightly behind Evan and Connor onstage like he was trying to shove himself in and failing, and I also loved that Evan was mimicking Connorās movements to show that he was really āConnorā
Before Anybody Have A Map:
Heidi: *growly-enthusiastic* Seize the day!
Evan: *same tone* I guess!
Before For Forever:
Evan: we went to the...apples. The apple place
Cynthia: ...the orchard?
In Disappear it was like Jared was trying to hide how enthusiastic he was to join the Connor Project and his āsarcasticā āwell, shit!ā when Alana said āyou can be secretary or treasurer, sorry, co-president is takenā was like he actually was a little disappointed, and also before that he was like āsoon this whole thing with Connor will be done with when thereās some third-degree tsunami we have to raise money for!ā like heās excited for when everything goes back to normal and he can be Evanās only friend
Before Requiem Cynthia told Zoe āweāre all grieving in our own way, I know you truly miss him deep downā and Zoe opened her mouth angrily like she was gonna deny it then just shook her head and looked away and rolled her eyes
Zoe is no way straight with the way she was sitting on that couch in Requiem
During the climax of You Will Be Found with the projections of Evanās speech all over, Heidi was wandering around the stage looking up at the videos confusedly, while Evan went up to Cynthia and hugged her for the longest time
Before Sincerely Me Jared was talking about how the secret email account and not talking to each other in school was the formula for gay lovers and I was like āyouād know about that huhā
I really loved the staging in Waving Through a Window where Evanās classmates line up in a row and then every time he steps in front of them trying to get their attention, they flip and look away, by the end Evan is looking almost desperate
In Sincerely Me during the chorus Connor punched Evanās shoulders on each side like really hard, then later Evan punched Connor back trying to like awkwardly mimic him but it was super weak like Connor barely even reacted
Before If I Could Tell Her the part where the music was already playing in the soundtrack passed by without anything from the band so I got scared they like, forgot to play or something but I guess they start the music later than they do in the recording
Zoe was like a ton more cynical than I thought sheād be, I really love it though it works well
When Jared Alana and Evan propose the Connor Project to the Murphys, after Evan invites Zoe and the jazz band to do something for the presentation and Cynthia says āoh Evan this is wonderfulā while Zoe watches and Evan looks nervous under her gaze, Jared says pointedly, āno sweat! right, Evan?ā and Evan stutters out an affirmative
There was so much startled laughter when Alana said āyou broke your arm? oh my grandma broke her hip. the doctors said that was the beginning of the end. she diedā
Evan takes Jaredās advice to nod and confirm super literally, during the scene before For Forever he nods super forced and fake-enthusiastically and says āmhmā or āyeahā again, super forced
Before Requiem (or maybe For Forever idk):
Cynthia: why was Connor embarrassed of you?
Evan: well, I mean, I think he didnāt want people to know he was friends with aā
Zoe: Nerd?
Evan: I was gonna say āloserā but that works tooābetter than works actuallyā
In If I Could Tell Her Zoeās āno, nevermind, I donāt really careā was a lot more trying to sound aloof than in the recording, sheās pretending sheās just like āwhateverā and pulls it off a lot better than Laura Dreyfussās Zoe
And then after If I Could Tell Her when Evan tells Jared about trying to kiss her on her brotherās bed, Jaredās like āoh sheāll hate you forever might as well just give up on her nowā in a way that really came off to me as āyes now that sheās out of the picture maybe I have a chance?ā
Act 2:
At one pointāI think it was a bit before Good For You?āwith projections of Evanās letters all over the stage, there were bolded words āmaybe better disappearedā
I CRIED DURING SO BIG/SO SMALL AND HEIDI AND EVAN ARGUING BEFORE GOOD FOR YOU AND LOOK I DIDNāT EXPECT THEIR SCENES TO HIT ME SO HARD BUT THEY DID
EVAN WAS LITERALLY SOBBING THE FIRST LYRICS OF WORDS FAIL AND I AM NOT OKAY, HIS ENTIRE WORDS FAIL PERFORMANCE WAS SO RAW AND PAINFUL HELP
Before Words Fail Cynthia was like brokenly āno, no, noā when Evan said Connor didnāt write the letters
Before Only Us Zoe said āletās have a keggerā and Evan repeated it in a sillier voice and then they went back and forth a couple more times then they started doing this little leg-bouncy dance that holy shit kinda echoed the Sincerely Me leg bouncing
Zoe was perched on the arm of the couch really weirdly during the scene where the Murphys and Hansens meet and drink wine, again, totally not straight
Zoe went to hold Evanās hands during Only Us, Evan really quickly wiped his hand on his jeans before holding her hands back
The part where Evan and Jared fought was really painful, when Jared said āfuck you, Evan! Asshole!ā and ran off, and Iām also still not over how he was the only one to talk about āsomeoneā hurting āwhoeverā in the third person during Good For You
Alana!!! Deserved!!! Better!!! She was practically crying during Good For You and those scenes where she tells Evan that the emails donāt line up, she didnāt even get a proper resolution, not even in the book (at least in the book Jared did)
When recording a video for the Connor Project, Alana was speaking clearly and well while Evan was just rambling really fast, sometimes heād just echo what Alana said but quicker and quieter, for the closing sentence they started to say it together, Alana and Evan visiblyāpainfullyātrying to match each otherās speed and tone, before Alana finally gave up and took over
As the play went on Evan started dressing like Connor, he was wearing Connorās sweater by the end until he changed back for the finale
Jared looked so hurt when Zoe came up and kissed Evan on the cheek while Jared was talking about how much of a ~better life~ Evan was having now that Connor was dead, Jared was like āyeah. youāre really helping the Murphysā like he was trying hard not to sound like he cared *cough* KLEINSEN ALL THE WAY
In Only Us when Evan was saying āI love youā the first part was still facing the audience, then for the rest of the āI love youās he turned to Zoe and got closer and closer to her, directing them at her instead of just saying āConnor didnāt know how to say thisā
The Sincerely Me reprise was great, so like Jared and Connor were dancing together and Connor was saying āletās have the Insanely Cool Jared Kleinman join this rad friendship!ā and then just record scratch, freeze frame, Evan snaps āyou canāt just make stuff upā and Jared looks into the camera like in the Office, and then when Jared like, what was it, invited Evan to his house or something idk, Evan was like āI canāt, Iām busy I have important things to doā, Jaredās visibly hurt when he says āoh yeah Connorās the only important thing nowā
During So Big/So Small, halfway through Evan just latches onto his mom and cries while she sings, I am not okay
Before Only Us Zoeās like ācan we talkā and Evan goes panicky āplease donāt break up with me!ā and then Zoe half-laughs āIām not breaking up with youā, Evan awkwardly really slowly leans forward to touch Zoeās hands and sighs in relief, āthank youā, Zoe mimicks him, āyouāre welcomeā, Evan looks kinda mortified
The You Will Be Found reprise literally felt like a panic attack/sensory overload it was intense and I loved it, also there was a loud whooshing sound before it cut to the Murphyās living room and I literally jumped lmao
Evan was pretty much sobbing during the part where Connor said ādid you fall? Or did you let go?ā, I was almost in tears too
When Evan spit out āhe didnāt write it!ā even though I knew what was gonna happen I still gasped inside, and then afterward Zoe whispered āhow could you do this?ā in a total 180 from her earlier tougher cynical attitude
When Alana shares the āsuicide noteā, sheās beside Evan on the other side of the stage, the note pops up all over the projections and recordings start reposting and sharing it, Evan is literally brokenly begging ādonāt show anyone, take it down, pleaseā

I haven't seen IT 2 but I'm enjoying that wild discourse too (it is funny but some comments like "lol they made penniwise homophobic because they saw the memes and didnāt want people to think heās gay" makes me wonder how much they are serious or joking... "They were really hoping he's change after dating Babadook huh?" and if people really have difficulties to separate canon from memes or if they're joking too). But mostly I wonder: why people have a hard time getting it's a HORROR movie? (1/?)
(2/?) Like, it is because this movie somehow become more mainstream? Is it because there is one actor from stranger things, they thought it would similar, with "light horror" and positive representations? Is it the clean picture and cinematography that makes it looks like less a horror movie because it hasn't a "dirty" quality of image some horror movie has? Are they just discovering what a horror movie can be ('cause it is one of the few mainstream one)?Ā (3/3) Like I don't watch a lot of horror movies but obviously not everyone of them have the good guys winnings, or have a final girl, or have happy gay/black/oppressed people/... in it, especially if the movie wants to show the dark side of humanities. Or... is it somehow weird to them to have completely evil entities in a fiction? Like they always complain when one is grey and not b&w but when there's a literal demon/force of evil/chaos... no they can't comprehend it?
wellĀ never mind that the discourse is killing me and I hope it dies because last yearās was way more than enoughĀ is2g that I still have fucking nightmares over the pennywise discourse, Iāll say that:
number one: I have a feeling a lotĀ of people watched the first because finn w/olfhard was in it andĀ they were expecting it to be stranger things and the first movie was kid-based enough that they could hang on to that hope until the second, but like........... sorry to say thatās nowhere near how it works
number two: none of these people actually read a king book or theyād know exactly what theyād be getting into ie extremely fucked up horrorĀ like guys king never was the #1 choice for comfortable reading I donāt get how you go watch anything thatās not shawshank redemption and expect a comfortable viewing experienceĀ
number three: horror movies are by nature supposed to be uncomfortableĀ - like, the entire point of good horror is that a) you have to put yourself in front of things that Are Not Comfortable To Look At and b) Achieve Some Kind Of Catharsis By The End orĀ b2) Get Out Of The Movie Feeling Fucking Unsettled And Thinking About It, and I think IT is in category b), but like... going into horror movies assuming that itās fake blood and everyone is happy at the end is ridiculous because the point is that people die during horrorsĀ and actually IT has a higher survival rate than average andĀ the average stephen king book which says all
number four: the fact that people took a memeĀ seriously just kills me because honestly, there is no single thing in the first movie that makes you assume pennywise is anythingĀ positive. none. and if anyone was expecting pennywise to go to pride marches even just having seen the first one... guys. itās a killer clown. who eats children. and other people. heās notĀ going to pride marches. alsoĀ the whole debate about the first scene is pointless because it was in the book andĀ it was based on a real murder that happened in bangor when king was plotting the book, and the entire point was showing you that a) people are evil, b) pennywise is evil, c) the return of the ancient evil that is 100% bad comes with killing a gay person which automatically makes the killing monstrous/evil, and itās been there since 1986, and itās in the first thirty pages of the book so... just... read a wikipedia summary? read the first chapter? idk but people complaining about pennywise not being pro-lgbt is just out of this world ridiculous to me at least
number five: idk re your last question because I honestly donāt know anymore but it feels like todayās fandom has this thing where they make grey characters absolutely evil without a chance of repentingĀ when theyāre set up to change and then they actually end up with True Evil That Is Just Interested In That and they suddenly canāt recognize it and want to turn it into cute and cuddly or not threatening and honestly I donāt get it whatsoever. also as someone who reads horror/watches horror notĀ to get scared (bc I donāt easily) but for how as a genre is reallyĀ good for character development/having settings where people have to face their fears whether they want it or not (which is a thing I find interesting in fiction okay)/a few different kinds of cathartic viewing/reading (not counting the part where I watch bad slasher movies because I think theyāre hilarious orĀ where I find actually entertaining a lot of trashy horror ie the nightmare on elm street sequels) I reallyĀ donāt know how to feel about people going into *horror* movies expecting the cute ship or stranger things 2.0 or not getting that the ancient evil creature thatās 100% evil and nothing else is a trope as old as the genre? I mean I honestly Do Not Get It, could be that lately horror movies havenāt been very mainstream andĀ good and this one is an exception but still... itās horror. based on a book by a guy whoās known for fucked up horror. research things maybe, but from what Iām seeing people donāt :/
tldr: I think your points are all good and tbqh most horror movies donātĀ do the happy ending (actually it in comparison to a lot has.. a.. relatively less bad ending than most ACTUALLY the movieās ending has fixed one of the things that irked me most about the bookās ending so GOOD) and people are assuming that most entertainment these days is harmless, but... idk man. I just want the pennywise discourse to dieĀ because last year was enough XDD

Shadow of Night reread
A few days ago I re-read Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness. It took me very little time to do it (which was surprising, considering the fact that i re-read the first book for almost 2 months). I will be doing my reactions about episodes as well (as soon as I re-watch them) and comparing the show to the first book.
My reactions, notes and everything under the cut. There are some trivia I forgot about, things i hope to see in season 2 of A Discovery of Witches, some stuff referencing the next & previous books and what not.
BEWARE OF SPOILERS FOR THE BOOKS. IF YOU HAVENāT READ THE BOOKS, DONāT READ THIS POST. Enjoy!
[ a discovery of witches | shadow of night | the book of life | timeās convert ]
the book takes place in 1590 & 1591 (matthew & diana scenes) and 2009 & 2010 (present day scenes) in the span of 7 months
diana's hair change colors when she timewalked into 1590 - they're long, red and curly, and they change - not exactly back - when they return to the present - they're straight, silky strands that were brighter redish gold - just like my mother's hair. it does't say anything about the length though (probably in the next book);
2 of my favorite quotes describing Matthew in this book: The man was as tall as a giraffe. | Bloodred stockings would do more than capture a wandering eye, given that the man who proposed to wear them was a six-foot-three vampire, and most of his height was leg..
āSurely youāll let me kill him now, de Clermont. Iāve wanted to do so for ages,ā Hancock said, cracking his knucklesā. āNo. You canāt kill him.ā Matthew rubbed a hand over his tired face. āThere would be too many questions, and I donāt have the patience to come up with convincing answers at present. - Hancock never liked Kit,Ā I also love Matthew's reasoning lolĀ
- AT THE SIGHT OF PHILIPPE'S LETTER MATTHEW CRIED VAMPIRE TEARS ESPECIALLY THAT THE LAST TIME MATTHEW SAW PHILIPPE HE COULD BARELY HOLD A PEN IN HIS HANDS AND PHILIPPE LOVED WRITING I AM NOT OKAYĀ
āThen who . . . ?ā I trailed off. āYsabeau? Baldwin? Surely not Marcus!ā I couldnāt believe that Matthewās mother, his brother, or his son could be involved [in the Congregation] without someone letting it slip. - oh, diana... Question: did Deb knew it was Baldwin when she was writing it? In A Discovery of Witches Matthew acted like he didn't know who was on the Congregation "And Marcus? Find out who besides Peter Knox and Domenico Michele are members of the Congregation."
- Until I have made peace with the past, I will not set foot in France. - we know Gallowglass showed up in Sept-Tours in 1945 when Philippe was dying. Did he go there before too?Ā
āExplain yourself.ā The words were quiet, but they didn't conceal Philippe's fury. - he is nor just mad because Matthew has a wife now. He is furious because he can sense that BOTH Diana and Matthew are from the future - this is what Philippe wants Matthew to explain.
Also, interestingly, reading A Discovery of Witches I've noticed that Baldwin called Philippe "dad" while Matthew calls him "father". Coincidence? But then in the Book of Life Baldwin calls Philippe āfatherā so... Idk anymore. That being said, verin calls him āAttaā;
āThe twelfth century was not good for you, and we allowed you to read entirely too much poetry." - I need to know more now! What exactly did Matthew read in 12th century?
"It is regrettable that you are not going to Florence, then. But it will be a long time before you will be welcomed back to that city, after your latest escapades there." - Matthew, what the heck did you do there? Please tell me you were NOT behind the siege of Florence, i beg you... But then again, Ysabeau did say that Matthew caused wars in Italy when he was bored...
Tamen mea lingua graeca est peior.ā āThen we shall not converse in that language either,ā murmured Philippe in a pained tone. - HE JUST WANTS TO SPEAK IN GREEK, THAT'S HIS NATIVE LANGUAGE, WHY DOES NOBODY BUT YSABEAU SPEAK IT. BUT that explains why he made sure greeg was still taught in schools later - he wasnāt only looking for Diana, he wanted people to speak his native language too
āPhilippe doesnāt seem to think so.ā āThen bed him. - lol, if only
"He is my son. I will not fail him.ā Philippeās mouth tightened." PHILIPPE I LOVE YOU NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE SAYS
āFor someone wedded to a witch you are quick to judge the passions of others, Matthaios. Louis is your brother.ā Goddess bless us, another brother. - Diana is not happy having huge family lol
I had been wrong. Philippe had not been trying to break Matthew, but only his guilt. Philippe had not failed his son after all. - MY FEELS
āI forgive you,ā his father repeated, throwing his arms around his son in a fierce embrace. āI forgive you.ā - IT KILLS ME EVERY TIME, THEY BETTER KEEP THIS IN THE SHOW
i love how Philippe just makes Diana his blood daughter without a second thought lol
āThinkāand stay alive.ā Philippe clapped his hands. - one of my favorite quotesĀ
Alcides Leontothymos beseeches you to hold this child Diana in your hand. -Ā i am right to Ā think Philippe is in fact Heracles, right?
Philippe trying his hand at engineering and failing every time will always make me laugh. You may be thousands years old vampire, but some things you will never learnĀ
Philippe, Diana and Matthew's goodbye always kills me SEASON 2 BETTER DO IT JUSTICE
āAnomalies,ā Ysabeau murmured. āPhilippe was always looking for anomalies in the world. It is why I still read all the newspapers. It became our habit to look through them each morning.ā - Phiippe knew he would not be alive by the time Matthew and Diana were together, but he was always hoping he could see her again. he hoped that Diana would be at least born while he was still alive and he always knew that when Diana and Matthew came back to their times, there would be anomalies throughout history. That's why he told Gallowglass and Verin to search for them too, to keep Diana safe.;
āThatās what Philippe says about Granny,ā Gallowglass muttered under his breath. āJust before all hell breaks loose.ā Give me more Ysabeau and Philippe you cowards;Ā
āMatthew knows the book, for his brother gave it to me.- So Mary Sydney knows Godfrey too. Does she know the rest of his siblings?;
[Marcus] made a muffled oath. āTell your intuition to take a break, for Godās sake.ā I need to see Marcus and Ysabeau interacting in season 2, their banter will be amazing
Every time I read Marcus seeing miniatures for the first time and missing Matthew so much kills me too - the show did them dirty, i need more of them together too;Ā
I forgot how much I ship Marcus & Phoebe;
I wish we could see the requests for magic Diana has received in season 2 and her not being able to do anything about that, i need this conflict SO MUCH. Does she help? What is she doesnāt and her neighbors will out her as a witch? This could be SO GOOD please show, deliver;
Dianaās symbol is rowan tree;
āBaldwinās never lost a million of anything in his life.ā - just throwing this out there because I love Baldwin with all my heart;Ā
917 is the Knight's of Lazarus telephone number. it belonged to Philippe, then to Matthew and now to Marcus. Philippe chose it to honor Ysabeu's birthday (September 17th). What i wanna know - is it her birthday or re-birth. ALTHOUGH it should be 179 - In Europe (and Philippe was Greek after all) we, unlike Americans, write the day first and the month later;
When Gallowglass learned that Baldwin had been called to Sept-Tours at Ysabeauās behest for some unspecified emergency involving Matthew, the Gael knew it was only a matter of time before the historical anomalies appeared. i think it was when Diana was kidnapped by Satu, right? Just want to be sure;
Gallowglass is smoking, i completely forgot about it;
Rudolph is flirting with Diana so much (ughhhh) because his source in Congregation told him that Matthew only married her to save her life a.k.a. charges of witchcraft;
Matthew helping Jack with his nightmares is the sweetest thing he's done so far;
One of Philippe's names is Ariel, what are the others?;
Ā Abraham (Jewish weaver in Prague) comes from CheÅm. Is this why Benjamin moved there?;
I need to KNOW the story about Baldwin and Dracula, Deb. Come on.;
āHe did. I swear it. Baldwin ordered him to leave or face the same fate as the Impaler. You should have seen Baldwinās face. The devil himself wouldnāt have disobeyed your brother.ā i want to see it too lol;
apparently, Gerbert told Ysabeau about the prophecy about a witch with the blood of the lion and the wolf. I wonder if this was one more reason she was anti-Diana at the beginning or did she dismiss it as somethingĀ not important;
And speaking of colleagues: How, after years of buying you Harvard bibs and mittens, did I end up with a daughter who teaches at Yale?ā good question lol I WANNA KNOW TOO;
Bennu, Stephen's familiar, is a bird.;
#saveEm2k19;
Matthew nearly had a heart attack when he discovered that his beloved Range Rover was not waiting for him in the underground garage. Instead we found a navy sports car with a soft top. hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha it always cracks me up;Ā
Edward Kelley sent the first page to Rabbi Loew, the second to Hubbard. Who gt the third and who sent it to Dianaās parents?;Ā
Annie stayed with Shakespeare after Matthew and Diana left and Jack was with Hubbard.;
Also, Matthew made Diana a diplomatic passport for easier traveling;
Overall, I loved this book. There were some boring moment that didnāt move the plot forward at all (like most of Prague, especially the hunting or the play, making the philosopherās stone with Mary Sydney) that I hope the show will cut it out completely or shorten it. Hopefully, they give us at least 2 episodes of Philippe at Sept-Tours - now that they got 10 episodes, they have a chance to do it properly. I also love the magic lessons from Goody Alsop and other witches, though I suspect, season 2 will only give us 1 witch (but I hope we will see Sophieās ancestor too. My favorite characters are Philippe, Pierre and Jack and I hope we will get plenty of them (please include Pierre, show!)

stuff i read october 2019
Georgette Heyer, Arabella (1949) Maybe I just wasnāt in the mood for a bubbly Regency? Idk I felt like this one didnāt sparkle the way I expect Heyers to. There werenāt any urchins underfoot for either of the romantic leads to step in and surrogate-parent; there wasnāt even a B-couple (that I recall? I breezed thru this ngl). The whole conceit of the Big Lie that Arabella tells, that launches the plot, is just not quite enough to keep said plot humming. She tells the lie out of pride, is the thing; and her lil bro digs himself into debt out of pride; and while they are brought face to face with the consequences of that pride the hero, who is the rudest most arrogant sonovabitch you ever saw, somehow never is??? thereās this whole pivotal sequence that occurs offstage, when the hero leaves town for a few days, and itās just not as good as the analogous sequence in Black Sheep when the hero leaves town and sets certain wheels in motion. I will not be rereading this one.
Patrick OāBrian, Master and Commander (1970) (Aubreyad #1) āDr. Maturin, please take your friend away ā¦ Tell him his ship is on fire ā tell him anything. Only get him away ā he will do himself such damage.ā Lmfao i love how Stephen has known Jack for like, a month at this point? And people take one look at the situation and go yup, you must be the man in charge of this fool. I mean ofc I ship it. Thatās why I read the damn book, bc everyone and their grandma ships it. OāBrian can certainly write; the trouble is that the ratio of scenes that delighted/wrecked me to scenes that bored me was not as high as I would have liked (40/60 if I had to estimate). On the plus side I acquired (a) a much deeper appreciation for Will Laurenceās conflict between duty and honor (Temeraire is an Age of Sail fandom, just like Jane Austen!! so you see i had no choice i had to read the damn Aubreyad) and (b) a great deal of useful nautical knowledge which came in handy when I went on to binge all 4 seasons of Black Sails.
Brandon Sanderson, The Way of Kings (2010) (Stormlight Archive #1) This book took me 9 months to finish because of the three main POV characters I only gave a fuck about one of them. Also bc itās 450k words, which is not as long as A Storm of Swords (480k) but longer than p much every other book in existence. The pov i cared about was Kaladin, who def has the clearest, most powerful arc in this book, and a very Gladiator arc it is too: The surgeon who became a soldier. The soldier who became a slave. The slave who became a bridgeman (ie. cannon fodder). The bridgeman who became ā¦ a demigod?? Basically. Like, I slog through this whole book and in the home stretch Brandon Sanderson comes out like GANGBUSTERS iām telling you when Dalinar gave up that Shardblade my soul actually ascended.
Vernor Vinge, A Deepness in the Sky (2000) (Zones of Thought #2) Itās all pedal to the metal hard scifi until he slaps you in the face with poetry, isnāt it. The passage that the title of the book is taken from is like that. This is a classic space opera, the clash of 3 civilizations at different levels of technological development, two humanoid and one arachnid. What blows my mind is that the natural orientation of Spiderkind is downward ā their sun goes supernova every couple of decades and they all gotta hunker down and hibernate in the deepest fastnesses they can fashion and wait it out. For Spiders, astronomy is a marginal field and its practitioners carry little prestige. Then a whole clutch of ALIENS show up in the neighborhood. The denouement of this novel is a great example of manipulating the audience in a way that doesnāt make them cry foul Ć la GoT S8. Yes, Vinge withholds knowledge from the reader, but if you go back to that pivotal debate scene and you reread the rest of the book, everything slots into place in a way that makes sense. And nobody is better than Vernor Vinge at depicting a gaslighting abuser from the inside (I donāt remember much from the previous Book 1 but I do remember that). The technology at the center of this book is Focus, which is a kind of enslavement of the mind: āWith Focus you got the capabilities of the subject without the humanity.ā And the people who inflict this abhorrent technology on their own populace are the same people who repeatedly mind-rape one of the main characters. It made me see that the cardinal violation committed by the rapist is of the victimās autonomy; it just so happens that we are corporal creatures, and that assault assumes a physical dimension. For me at least Tomasās mental violation overshadows his physical violation of Qiwi. 5/5 will def reread

my friends chris and mj @cabesmeadow !! i saw it a lot on tumblr and asked mj abt it and they were likeĀ āyeah itās super fucking radā and then my friend chris started listening to it over the summer so, mid-november, on a night that i had actually finished my homework early, i was like,Ā āhey, fuck it, why notā

i probably would have made something w/ jewerly, maybe a ring or earrings? or idk yet, i canāt think of anything cool, but ngl i think it would def having something similar to the animus bell. not That exactly, but something necrotic that, like, probably takes life energy to heal whoever is wielding it or takes life energy to feed their own

UHHHHH āTHE WORDLESS ONEā REVEAL HOLY FUCKING SHIT
9) Which āseven birdā would you have been? Or what would your role have been on the Starblaster?

10) Would you have been able to make it through Wonderland?
oh definitely not. im ngl a bitā¦ not selfish, but territorial of my things, idk what i wouldāve been able to give up for the wheel, and i def wouldnāt have given up years of my life, and going for my looks would be a Hard Bargain and, even if i was in a world where i had magic, i donāt think i wouldāve been strong enough to survive the challenges
11) What are some of the parts that made you the most emotional (whether it be crying, laughing, etc.)?

21) In Wonderland, would you have been hesitant to āforsakeā your opponents, or would you have done what you had to to get out?
okay ngl not to sound Terrible but if i was going up against strangers,,,,,, yeah iād do what i had to do. itās called the fucking suffering game not the fucking best friend game omfg
would i be able to betray my friends/companions tho??? i donāt think so, nope
22) Of the puzzles throughout the arcs, which one was your favorite?
answered!!!!
23) Would you have liked to see the dark timeline where Magnus took the chalice, or Magnusās sidequest with Kravitz? Or are you happy with what actually ended up happening?
i love everything that happened in canon but i can admit that a magnus/kravitz sidequest wouldāve been fucking sick
24) If given the option, would you have joined the Bureau of Balance? Would you have been a seeker, regulator, reclaimer, or something else?
tbh i think i would if i had to and i think i would have been a seeker
25) What magical item would you have made at the Arcaneum (from the Stolen Century)?
a cool sword!!!!! but, like, a magic sword

i was so fucking confused but, like, in a good way, and so fucking shocked oh my god
30) What was your reaction when you found out who Lup was, and then to what happened to her?
answered!!!!
31) What was your reaction to Merle losing touch with Pan, and then to Panās return when the Planes were reconnected?
ngl it was pretty hard hitting and not for, like, any spiritual reason or anything, but just bc merle literally had Nothing at that point and i felt so bad for him and was so nervous but alsoĀ āiām not your pan, but youāll always be my merleā is probably, without a doubt, one of my favorite taz quotes

LUP AND LUCRETIA!!!!! @ GRIFFIN: LET THEM INTERACT MORE I DONāT GIVE A SHIT IF ITāS JUST AN HOUR OF YOU TALKING TO YOURSELF
33) Flaming Raging Poisoning Sword of Doom or the Umbrastaff?
the umbrastaff!!!!
34) Something you learned from Balance?
that very rarely are there ever easy decisions, and that you have to give yourself time to love and love without boundaries because, even with the years and years people have, so much time can be spent not loving the people you have
also it taught me the type of writer i want to be, and honestly taz has inspired me so much to keep pursuing writing, even when i feel like finally giving in
35) Who?

MCU Rewatch:Ā āAvengers: Infinity Warā (2018)
Ebony Maw is, like, the worst. Heās just such a sycophant to Thanos, and a real sucker for the ideology, a flatterer. Believe me his death was very satisfying.
I just hate how Thanos pretends to sympathize with his victims. Thanos is an a++ creeper
Thor is just suffering this entire film and it hurts to watch
Lokiās death: I think Loki knew he didnāt stand a chance with his butterknife. there had better be a good reason that this is how it went down because
āYou consider failure experience? I consider experience experience.ā This is totally Loki BSing but this is actually kind of a good perspective to have about lifeās little misfortunes.
Are the stones connected to Thanos himself? Through the gauntlet? Does that connection grow?Ā
Considering that Vision was feeling the Mind Stone acting up in his forehead I think the Infinity Stones are connected and the Gauntlet only amplifies the connection.Ā
The only good explanation for the Soul Stone giving itself to Thanos is that the Infinity Stones are Sentient and Evil. Itās a stretch to justify Thanos somehow sincerely having love for a daughter he spent years abusing. IMO itās plausible, but itās a stretch
If any of the Asgardians survived and escaped Thanosā assault, Marvel owed us footage of that
I think the reason that Gamoraās backstory was changed was because showing her parents being killed in front of her would have been more violent and more terrifying for the audience. It also would not have lent itself to demonstrating Gamora and Thanosā relationship. But it still could have been done a certain way to make it less disturbing and had the same effect.
Tony got at least the idea for Nanotech from Wakanda.Ā
āNo more surprises, I promise.ā *Doctor Strange shows up* To be fair, that surprise was unplanned
Tony Stark needs to be in control because he is scared. It was true in Age of Ultron and Civil War and it is true now.Ā
I donāt think Ned heard a word of what Peter said on the bus
Spider-man showing up out of nowhere during the fight against Maw and saving Tonyās butt is such a great entrance, Iām so grateful we have Tom Holland as Spider-man in the MCU
Doctor Strange in his own movie was pretty cool, but Doctor Strange at his full powers in Infinity War is MIND-BLOWINGLY AWESOME
Tony built the IronSpider suit because he just KNEW that something bad would happen and the suit that Peter was already using wouldnāt be enough.Ā
Bruceās struggle against the reluctant Hulk is sad but itās hilarious
The GOTG entrance is RAD, itās the raddest thing about the whole movie, the Guardians of the Galaxy are the grooviest thing since ever
Also their reaction to Thor is straight-up hilarious
Really, Thor, why didnāt you just stop to hang out? Do you really need a Thanos-killing weapon that badly?Ā
okay maybe he does
Rocket will regret leaving his friends so brusquely
Vision disguised as human in public is everything
If the WandaVision TV show isnāt as cool as their fight in Edinburgh I donāt want to watch it
Vision might be badly injured for most of the film but he is not a helpless damsel in distress and he wonāt go down without a fight, and that increases my respect for him so much more
but on the other hand, if they can get the Mind Stone out of Visionās forehead w/o killing him, they should. Thereās no reason for him to die. Cāmon, bro, donāt be a doormat. Youāre a person and you have value! How many times have you said that about other people? At least twice in my fanfiction.Ā
What other thoughts did Vision have about the Mind Stone? Iām intrigued. No, scratch that, Iām beyond intrigued.
Star-lord needed a better plan for confronting Thanos on Knowhere
āSwear to me on your mother.ā Gamora knows how much PeterQās mother meant to him, she knows how much heās never recovered from her death, she wouldnāt have made him take that oath unless it was serious
I remember the first time I saw IW, seeing the Red Skull as the guardian of the Soul Stone SHOOK me
Also he refers to theĀ āstonesā plural--Schmidt KNEW!
Peter Parker pays attention to popular film and culture in ways that matter--like, thatās where he gets ideas for how to do things. Heās good to have around
Stephen Strange should have called out Tony for wanting to run from the other Avengers for personal reasons, that was at least one factor on him deciding to go to Titan
Is it just me or is Tony Stark the first person to actually refer to Doctor Strange asĀ āDoctorā?
Nebula :ā( :ā( :ā(Ā
I have issues with the Stormbreaker arc but really though the scene with Rocket and Thor talking it out is so good
I think Thor, to an extent, is faking his anger, or at least using it to mask his sadness. he doesnāt need revenge he needs a hug and a blanket--I mean not that the universe isnāt at stake if Thanos isnāt stopped but yeah man. He was actually crying while he was talking to Rocket
Rocket probably thinks Thorās family is pretty messed up and heās absolutely right
You may have thought after the first GOTG movie that Rocketās thing with prosthetics was a joke, but no, itās pretty serious
Peter apologizing to Stark and Strange in advance in case he lays eggs in either of them was actually a pretty good thing to do. Itās something I would do.
How hard did the story development team have to work to find a part for Peter Dinklage?
Whas Okoye being sarcastic about the Starbucks comment? Is she really happy about the Avengers being there or Wakandaās new foreign policy period?Ā
Oh Bucky <3 <3 <3
Proxima Midnight is FIERCE #femalevillaingoals
āYou are in Wakanda now. Thanos will how nothing but dust and blood.ā How prophetic.Ā
Ieitri has known Thor for a while. Probably since Thor was a kid.Ā
Natās face when Thor shows up in Wakanda:Ā āWouldāve been nice if you showed up ten minutes ago.ā
I donāt think Wanda needed to be with Vision for his surgery. If she had stayed out in the battlefield the Avengers and the Wakandan army might have stood a better chance. But then Idk who would have protected Vision so...
The Titan teamās plan to snare Thanos was pretty good, but it would have actually worked if theyād given Quill a job for after they tied him up
Sam and Rhodey teamwork--Iām here for it. Wish weād gotten more of that instead of Civil War. Heck, I need a Sam and RHODEY tv show!
I love how Bruce Banner finds his moxie
Why did the one guard put Nebula back together? If he knew that Nebula was so bent on killing Thanos why did he do that? Would Thanos have ordered that?
Nebula must have gone to find Gamora and warn her that Thanos was ready to make his move sometime before Ragnarok happened.Ā
How much did Thanos know about Sutur and Ragnarok? Was he watching?Ā
Plot hole explanation: Loki took the throne and withdrew Asgardās troops from its territories, Thanos came to Nidavellir and ordered the gauntlet made. Youāre welcome.Ā
Wait, no, Loki withdrawing Asgardās troops also paved the way for Thanos to attack Xandar also--Loki was trying to protect himself but instead he gave Thanos free reign to collect the stones
(if theyāve had a couple of years since Ronan attacked, though, shouldnāt they have rebuilt some of their military by then?)
Seriously, Wanda, way to go sister.Ā
Even if Thanos canāt die without getting his head cut off he can still get hurt pretty badly with the right weapon and I donāt think thatās a fact to be ignored.Ā
Okoyeās face when Tāchalla turns into dust before her eyes. Then her watching the Decimation as it happens around her, sheās ready to CRY, she is TERRIFIED
