Some things about Allan:

He’s the only one who reacts to the narrator

He’s the only doll (besides the Weird House) who isn’t swayed in some way by Ken’s takeover

He also declares himself as “Ken's buddy" (making canon his official box description) which makes his inability to be swayed more interesting

He has bendable legs (probably the only reason he tries to jump the fence instead of going around like everyone else)

He easily decked a half-dozen construction Kens and could probably singlehandedly win the Ken fight

He seems to know more about the real world than most Barbies

He knows what NSYNC is 

He knows about other Allan copies living in the real world (I’m trying to figure out if he made this up to convince the humans he can live in the real world, but even if he did, how does he know what NSYNC is???)

There are no other Allan models

I picked 1-2 things from all the authors/directors I could think of, but let me know if I've forgotten something interesting. I was thinking about this topic because this year's bestseller Fourth Wing was apparently written by an ex-Mormon who now loves coffee and smut, which I think is pretty funny.

The entire series we've been told, over and over, that Galbatorix is stronger than Eragon. It has been really, exhaustively stablished that Galbatorix's power is god-like at this point, and Eragon doesn't stand a spitting chance in hell of overpowering him.

We've also been told he doesn't need to. The key won't be to overpower him, but to outthink him. Eragon has to find something he didn't account for. He has to attack the one way Galbatorix didn't predict.

And it was just, empathy. The one thing Eragon had that Galbatorix didn't. The only way he's better and stronger. Eragon cares about the people who got hurt, and Galbatorix doesn't, so he never thinks to protect himself from their grief.

It was the power of fucking love.

I have a question for the Zelda fandoms, is Ganondorf a potterer? Does he like to do pottery? Would this explain the "hero's" drive to smash pottery? (this is where the true grudge comes from lol) As someone who is a potterer. I could totally understand that Gannon would start cursing the kingdom of Hyrule out of pettiness. (idk maybe the pottery is cursed or something.) Imagine Demise and all the Ganons in a therapeutic pottery session. Taking pride and joy in their craft only to then dread the eventual comically large stampede of links. The eternal cycle of pettiness. heheheh may- shattered recreation.

Hello hello! Since you watch all kinds of asian dramas, what are your top ones that feature casual intimacy?

Hey anon! I do in fact watch all kinds. :))

I am going to partially cheat on this one and point you to a previous post I wrote in July: The Ride or Die Drama Couples List. This is a list of dramas with couples in established relationships, as well as a bunch of friends to lovers dramas where the couple is basically together the whole time but doesn't realize it yet. Since the Venn diagram of my list for best casual intimacy and this post is basically a circle, I figured it was a good place to start.

That said, I have watched many more dramas since then and there are a few that don't fit that list's bill, so here are some additions in no particular order:

Sing My Crush

Just look at this gif. Im Hantae can't keep his hands off Han Baram regardless of their relationship status, and it's some of the sweetest casual affection I've ever seen depicted on my screen.

Choco Milk Shake

This Korean bl is about a very sad boy's dead pets taking human form to return to him. I know it sounds weird but trust me it is cute as all hell and weirdly touching and chock-a-block with casual intimacy in the form of pets seeking their owner's attention.

A Boss and A Babe

Gun and Cher are one of the best couples in Thai bl this year for casual affection. This show has some wonkiness in the plot but the couple has a really lovely, easy chemistry and a lot of cute moments.

Are you interested in casual intimacy of the platonic nature alongside your romance moments? Because this show is just full of it, with a tight knit group of neighborhood besties that are all up in each other's space. And once the romance kicks in, you get lots of cute stuff there, too.

The Eighth Sense

These two are all over each other both before and after they get together, with tons of small moments of skinship in every scene. Jae Won in particular really struggles to keep his hands to himself.

King the Land

One of my favorite romances of the year, with so many cute couple moments, both casual and Big Swoony, that I lost count.

Kiseki: Dear to Me

Do you consider touch on the rougher end of the spectrum—say, grabbing your bf by the scruff of his neck or throwing him over your shoulder—casual intimacy? If so, have I got a couple for you.

Taikan Yoho

The relationship dynamics in this Japanese bl are not for everyone, but if you're into something a little confusing and twisted with under-negotiated kink dynamics, you will be handsomely rewarded with more casual intimacy than you know what to do with.

Last Twilight

This one is still airing but I think it already won the casual intimacy Olympics for 2024. There is so much loving touch in this show, and it's also hugely important to the story, as one of our leads is losing his vision and needs the touch to feel grounded.

Some Allan doll history:

He was named after Barbara Handler’s husband (Allan Segal)

Him and Midge were designed as “best friends” to Barbie and Ken and went on double dates

He married Midge (this was a decade before the pregnant Midge doll was released)

So besides being one of the oldest Barbie dolls and possibly the only one to have ever married, he also has a long friendship with Barbie and Ken. It doesn’t seem like the Barbie movie stuck to this backstory (none of the Barbies seem to have any canon relationship backstory beyond “Barbie and Ken” in Barbie Land) but it’s interesting to learn about.
