DAY 4425
Jalsa, Mumbai                       Apr 18,  2020                   Sat 10:29 PM
Birthday Ef - Beejal Bhatt .. Arth Vaishnav .. Sunday, April 19 .. happiness on your birthday .. Beejal turns 51 , auspicious year .. keep safe and in precaution ..
Methinks the technologically devised devices, are feeling the silence of lockdowns all over the World .. in their presence of importance known through all factors, they , knowing their importance, have decided to lackadaisical their presence .. at a given point of their time they simply are refusing to function .. and in protest , a sis well known among computer users, that rotund rainbow coloured circuambulating globe keeps doing the rounds as you wait patiently for it to either stop or do what has been asked of it to do .. open something, italic something, delete another, bring up the window desired .. NOTHING .. its not performing its norms at all .. I checked all the routers and frowters or whatever the heck they are called that emanate radio active destructive waves, and noen of them glow with the purple ring - an indicator as advised that it is not working , so to unplug the wire and put It back again for it to function again .. BUT no nothing of the sort has happened  and yet it DOES NOT FUNCTION !
SO .. I shall disappear for a while .. get some morsels in the centrum .. and be back with you ..
.. back as promised .. and the device plays well .. it thinks less, operates more, gives attention greatly .. the earlier complaints seem to have worked ..
its the little things in life that bring joy and satisfaction and pleasant countenance .. a small piece of nothing really lying about the hand reached distance on the desk, removed suddenly gives a sense of immense achievement .. a few pen drives that should have been dispatched into a box to be digitised , removed and the mind space created suddenly, gives such relief ..
Motto .. when the think prevails .. do .. wait and it shall be overcome by the million other encumbrances that in today’s time prevail in the blink of a window opening on the ‘top’ .. the lap top .. the screen of the ‘h’ .. the hand phone .. the ‘h’ being the abbreviation when the mobile was just finding its important presence .. the ‘hand’ phone ... the ‘r’ was the residence .. the land line in todays terminology .. which now has achieved almost immediate extinction .. and habits die hard .. look into my contact list .. errr , no you wont get to do that .. look into it and you shall find the ‘h’ and the ‘r’ in regular use .. even though we are familiarise or are familiarised that the 10 digit one is the ‘h’ and nothing else .. now of course due to the immediate commute from one continent to another .. the +91 for us .. the +20 for the Pyramids .. the +44 for the land of the Queen .. the +1 for Donald .. +7 per Ruski .. and on ..
.. but really there is not a thought, an idea, a facility, that remains in the dark .. as far as normal essentials are concerned ..  question arise, seek the the Googs .. and the next goes on .. Googs incidentally, I get the impression from the conversations conducted with the higher echelons, is deeply working on the track of every possible thought word deed in the Universe .. in its possession .. they want every information on everything in the World to be with them or available from them .. from they them needs notice .. and the buzz word is DATA ..
‘Data’ shall rule the World .. if it is not already .. who we are , where we came from, where did we go who we met what did we buy how much time we spent at home at work in the gym .. it just goes on .. BECAUSE ..
.. that shall be the source of all future business decisions if it is not already ..
.. and when every 6.45th person in the world is an Indian , we are the privileged ones on whom shall rest a great amount of the decision tables ..
.. 6.45th .. 7.8 billion the Earth human populace .. 1.35 billion in the Mother Land India Indians .. so 7.8 minus 1.35 = 6.45 ..
Tumblr media
.. still doing the maths .. err .. math .. as the modern generation now calls it .. in the way taught in Std., 2 .. !! 🤣
... we are every where .. China very close and bigger too .. they 1.39 billion approx., some years back .. now could be different , but approx., .. so between them and us , the share shall rest ..
an interesting scenario exists after the math .. or rather after the aftermath of the ‘19′ .. very interesting .. many theories flood the idle discussion each hour .. and they all subsist on theories and postulated speculation, bordering very close to the improbable to the sublime .. of large benefits .. of large disaster ..
.. nothing in between .. its either आर या पार  !! and both could be either welcoming or extremely disastrous !!
Fear setting in  .. naah .. never let that overcome thee ..
“.. que sera sera .. what ever will be will be .. the futures not ours to see .. que sera sera “
remember that famous 50′s song ..
look it up .. Googs would have it .. told you its the age of ‘look it up’ ..
I did .. its there ..

Okay so if this blog is moving forward still as a two-Master blog (which I think it still is, I just need to keep digesting stuff...) then I need to make a list of differences between Simm and  Dhawan, since they already have so many similarities. Some of these are facts observed in canon, others headcanons. ALIGNMENT Both Simm and Dhawan are Neutral Evil masquerading as Chaotic. “A little chaos can be a wonderful thing,” Dhawan tells Barton, and “a little” is key there.  When gloating over a victory, when essentially preening for the Doctor, both engage in erratic acts of sadistic play (Simm gassing the whole British Cabinet as Saxon, while wearing a gas mask and giving his victims a thumbs-up; Simm clapping joyously after the Toclafane kill the fictitious American President; Simm shouting “DINNER TIME!” as he eats people’s life forces in End of Time; Simm taunting Cyberman Bill Potts; Dhawan exclaiming he’s had fun on Barton’s jet; Dhawan in a tophat shrink-killing people at a science fair in Victorian London; and so on). But for all those cases of giddy play, both primarily engage in long-cons that use ALL TOOLS at their disposal (be it Toclafane, transphobic and sexist slurs they don’t really ascribe to,  mysterious alien gateways, a ship colony living under a black hole, or N*zis) with an impartial and cold indifference, entirely Machiavellian, uncaring about the fate of any collateral in the way, to reach their own personal goal. Neutral Evil.
EMOTIONAL RANGE
Simm is more steadily manic, threatening, accusatory and snide.  He is always loud, outrageous, obnoxious, sanguine and optimistic, flirtatious and lusty and passionate, dynamic and charismatic.  His humors are terrifying, and his furies burn “like a whole screaming world on fire” (Missy’s apt words), but they are also fairly constant, even when he plays at/pretends “insanity.”  Dhawan is another story entirely, and this to me is their biggest difference aside apparent motive (below):  Dhawan acts like someone with an exceptionally developed intellect, but an exceptionally under-developed emotional range. He seems capable of only three very pure emotions, which almost exist like primary colors: yellow giddiness/mania, red fury, and blue reticence/melancholy.  They switch on a dime, for little apparent reason.  This is what makes him more frightening than Simm, in many ways.  Mid-sentence he will break from breezy small talk into screaming, roaring, snarling tirade.  He is also far more physically violent than Simm: not that Simm isn’t capable of this, but more than once in a rage, Dhawan grabs, shoves, and tries to strangle the Doctor, and in those moments he seems helpless to that rage, controlled BY it (a bitter irony given his moniker).  He seems to be of two minds: an almost rueful, gentle intellect, and a beast.
APPARENT MOTIVE Simm’s entire apparent motive is to be autonomous of all other beings, and free to do his own bidding.  This, even at the expense of friendship, even with the Doctor, if the Doctor poses the ultimatum “change to be the type of good person I prescribe, or else.” This is the reason why he found Missy’s time in the Vault so disturbing: not that she was physically mistreated or truly trapped, but rather, that she was willing to conform to the Doctor’s highly absolutist notions of ethics, and suppress her own personality for his sake.  To him, this was a profound act of self-deprivation and self-betrayal.  He still struggles to find the balance between loving the Doctor and abiding by his own honor code. The fandom easily misinterprets this philosophy as “unevolved” and “selfish,” and indeed, sometimes Simm does deplorable, disgusting, unnecessarily vicious things to ensure his independence.  But it is actually, on another level, a profound act of self-respect.
Dhawan on the other hand seems to have entirely disposed of the idea of autonomy.  He admits and even revels in the idea that he’s doing all the horrible things he does to catch the Doctor’s attention, to preen before his lifelong  best friend and crush, to obtain an equal footing with her in infamy/notoriety, because “notoriety isn’t as good as fame, but it’s heaps better than obscurity” (Neil Gaiman) and after all their canonical history of explosive romance, rapport and strife, there’s no point in feigning pride. he might as well flirt with her in the open, ask her to say his name sexually in the open, he might as well KNEEL WITH HER ON HER LEVEL  in the open.  There’s no need to fake not needing her anymore.  Even though he strives to kill her, his life is empty without her.  He remembers being Simm, and he remembers “get out of the way.” He doesn’t regret “get out of the way” or rushing into that Timelock.
In a way, Dhawan’s motive is the externalization of Simm’s unconscious motive.  Every Master does what they do for the Doctor’s attention, to prove themselves worthy of the Doctor’s regard. Every Master, and Missy, is a farce on their own claim to “controlling everything,” because they can’t control their own hearts. Because their locus of control is truly external, and pivots around the Doctor’s good opinion. And that’s why they are always furious.  Because they don’t understand how to get the Doctor to approve of them, without  betraying themselves. Dhawan is the natural next step of Simm and Missy in that he embodies the conflict Simm and Missy had with each other in the Doctor Falls, but within ONE body.
It’s desperately sad, tbh.  TREATMENT OF THE DOCTOR’S COMPANIONS Simm, more shrewdly, seems to believe that hurting the Doctor’s friends is the most efficient way to hurt the Doctor.  He enjoys watching the fruits of his labors slowly unfold. Dhawan on the other hand is so impatient to get to his goal (after, in fairness, working on it many years at a time) that he would rather separate the Docto from their companions as quickly as possible. this ties in closely to the above issue of motives: Simm, though he secretly desperately misses his best friend, is more comfortable being alone, and Dhawan clings to the Doctor and wants his plans to succeed specifically to catch the Doctor’s attention. The quicker the pesky companions are eliminated, the better.  The upside of this is he’s not as likely to play with his food before eating it, as Simm is.  Look at the Joneses, and Bill Potts.
VULNERABILITY FACTOR Dhawan’s emotional duality also makes his vulnerability more readily apparent, more obvious, than Simm’s, but that doesn’t mean he is actually more vulnerable.  Both of these Masters are particularly pariah-esque, both of them feel misunderstood by homeland and former friends.  Both are exceptionally emotionally volatile. Simm, however, is far better at guising his hurt as snideness and as anger.  He may be hemorrhaging inside, but he knows how to deflect that with apparent cruelty.  Dhawan gives up far more quickly. He cries openly, more than once an episode; indeed he’s an “angry crier.”  He sulks and broods and romantically dons the air of a jilted lover.  He doesn’t care if the Doctor sees him looking pathetic. He even uses it to his advantage.  Simm, contrariwise, and frequently to his own detriment, would rather die than be seen desperate ( “I’d rather die than beg you” is an actual line he speaks to the Doctor).  He is far prouder.
SOCIAL SKILLS Simm’s neurodivergency is more obvious when he socializes (unless he has actively donned a disguise, like Harold Saxon or Razor, and is skillfully playing a role).  Even when he is being charismatic and charming, he has difficulty turning off his eruptive energy.  Dhawan is capable of completely masking his personality for impressive periods of time, and seeming entirely innocuous, even placated and serene.
WEAPONRY AND TARDIS  Simm still uses his laser screwdriver.  Dhawan uses his old tissue-compression weaponry.  Both Masters have a Type 45 TARDIS with intense red interior lights.  Simm’s TARDIS is immaculately kept, with a greenhouse full of orchids he’s grown, and a bathroom that’s also a pristine lagoon with a waterfall for showers. It also contains countless workshops and a massive Victorian-Era library.  Dhawan’s TARDIS maintains its wooden house in the Victoria Desert appearance; it’s a pig sty of surprisingly mundane table lamps, messy paper stacks, desks and tables, a modest kitchen, and a transparent holo-computer inverted pyramid Console.  For sentimental reasons, he hasn’t been able to change it from the appearance it held when the Doctor visited it.
SEXUAL ORIENTATION/POSITIONS
Simm is a panromantic demisexual who prefers the Power Bottom role in the bedroom.  Dhawan is a panromantic bisexual who prefers to Top.  Both are nonbinary, but Simm is more comfortable embracing genderfluidity (so far) than Dhawan.
APPEARANCE
Although one chooses to appear like a mid-thirties-forties blond white man, and the other like an early-thirties dark-haired brown man, both Simm and Dhawan utilize the trope of apparent innocence, boyishness, to their strategic advantage.  Simm looks like a chubby-cheeked puckish little boy, and Dhawan looks like a big brown eyed puppy.  Both can cover remarkable ground, and literally get away with murder, because of looking so innocuous.

ITSM: The new mantra for IT Companies
IT agility and operational excellence may be challenging goals to reach, but they are essential to support the long-term business growth of a company. The disparity between today's business wants, and internal IT abilities constitute a significant business risk.
Today's fast-changing and the demanding business world presents many demanding for IT managers. The endeavour is to try to more value from the present IT infrastructure and respond to changing business needs without compromising service levels.
IT has to be achieved while reducing the overall Total Cost of Ownership and often increasing the complexity, frequency and the volume of change—the capacity of the IT departments to manage IT service.
Reducing IT costs and improving services quality
In effect, the effectiveness, flexibility, reliability and of IT services are the serious success factors behind business initiatives. Business managers and even top management declare that without a flexible, reliable IT infrastructure, innovation would be stifled, resulting in decreased lost market share and revenue.
IT agility and operational excellence may be challenging goals for IT departments to reach, but they are essential to support the long-term business growth of a company. The disparity between today's business requirements and internal IT abilities constitutes a significant business risk.
Over some time and since the massive wave of IT investments right through the nineties, IT executive had to realign themselves to the needs of businesses demanding high-quality solutions and support delivery.
IT executives with a different business orientation have grasped the essential of focusing on service management rather than just technology management and thereby highlight the transforming value of IT. They are reassessing the core capabilities and competencies of the IT departments and changing them to allow the delivery of new services to the extended enterprise. This brings in the renovation of IT functions from a pure technology maintainer to a proactive provider of state.
IT Service Management Defining the requirements

ITIL provides best practice architectures and guideline to make sure that IT processes are closely aligned to the business procedure and that IT delivers the correct business solution.
ITIL is not a standard, nor it is regulations or rules, and therefore neither tools, processes or people can be deemed "ITIL Co.
The key objectives are to increase IT effectiveness and efficiency while improving the overall quality of services to the business within the imposed cost limit.
Service delivery covers the procedure require for planning and delivery of IT services and looks at the long term procedure associated with improving the quality of service. It contains capacity management, service level management, financial management, IT service continuity accessibility management.
On the other hand, service support explains processes associated with day-to-day maintenance and support activities for the provision of IT service. It encompasses processes such as service desk function, problem management, change management, configuration management and incident management.
Transforming IT into a service providers
 1. The broad useful spectrum of ITSM are:
 2. Constant improvement in the delivery of quality IT service.
 3. Reduction in the overall management and support costs leading to a reduced TCO.
 4. Improved service performance and availability leading to increased business profits.
 5. Improved communication and better working relationship between Business and IT.
 6. The capacity to absorb a higher rate of change with an improv.
IT Service Management is a severe building block in the overall dynamic computing pyramid. Part technology and part process, ITSM Solutions provide configuration, real-time capacity and asset management tools along with dependency mapping, root cause analysis, integrated workflow automation and service-level reporting.
It is pertinent to note that effective IT Service Management Solution is built to integrating people, processes, and technology and as an approach is applicable across.

Health Tips For Healthy Eating
Tumblr media
The body requires around 40 different nutrients to keep good health. There's not any single food that can offer the body with these nutrients. Consequently, you will need to consume a vast array of foods such as fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, poultry, protein-rich food, dairy products and whole products.
Follow decent health tips and a food guide pyramid that will help you plan your diet. Always examine the nutrition facts mentioned on food labels to know what you're eating. Vegetables, fruits, vegetables and whole grains foods are vitally essential for a healthy body.
You have to have about six to eleven servings of bread, pasta, cereals and pastas with three of them being whole grains. In addition, you need to consume around three servings of fruits and about four servings of veggies. Even though you may not feel like swallowing them initially, you will need to find innovative health tip recipes to make them tasty and fun.
Keep your weight at a safe level. Your height, age, gender and heredity factors would determine your ideal weight. In case you have excess fat on your body, your odds of high blood pressure, stroke, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and certain kinds of cancer would go up.
Being too thin would also give rise to its own share of problems such as osteoporosis for the older and menstrual irregularities in women, among other health difficulties. Consult with a registered dietitian for health recommendations to develop good eating habits and learn how to manage your weight. Remember to exercise at exactly the exact same time to control your weight.
Have a healthy eating habit. Learn how to keep your portion sizes reasonably small and limited. You would wind up eating and putting on more weight rather than losing it. You can eat light snacks between meals to reduce your intake during meals.
But you should avoid eating a lot of snacks as that would compensate for the reduced consumption of meals. Never create abrupt changes to your diet or diet customs. You body in addition to your mind would require some time to follow these health tips. Changing too quickly can prove counterproductive.
Make modest modifications and increase them gradually but steadily until you accomplish your desired goal. These are fairly simple health tips to follow. It just requires a little practice and some common sense to eat and stay healthy. A good diet along with exercise can help keep you in good health and great shape.
Eating For Blood Sugar Control - The Best Health Tip Ever
If you consume in a manner that causes you to have a high blood-insulin level through the day, you place yourself at risk for many of what many doctors call the"deadly diseases of civilization". Insulin resistance, higher blood pressure, high cholesterol, type two diabetes, cardiovascular disease and several of the worst forms or cancer are DIRECTLY LINKED in reference to having always elevated insulin levels, which can be DIRECTLY LINKED to having elevated blood glucose.
Eating in a way that keeps your blood sugar in a normal, healthy range makes attaining a healthy body weight and getting vibrantly healthy much simpler. Eating Or Snacking On High Sugar, High Carbohydrate Foods Repeatedly Throughout Your Day Will Destroy Your Health And Here Is How Any food or beverage high in carbohydrates or sugar causes a sharp increase in your blood sugar level.
To prevent rapidly rising blood glucose, your pancreas secretes the hormone insulin, which prevents the sugar build up in the blood and brings the sugar level back down into a normal, healthy selection. Your pancreas making insulin to reduce increasing blood glucose is normal and healthy, but if you eat in a manner that keeps your glucose level raised throughout the day...
1) your pancreas has to make insulin throughout the day, so;
2) your blood-insulin level stays high during the day, and because of this;
3) over time you build a resistance to the blood-sugar-lowering impact of insulin, so your pancreas has to work harder and pump even more of the powerful hormone in your blood to reduce your blood sugar... and this is where the problems really start.
Insulin lowers blood sugar by converting the sugar in your blood into fat, so rather than having high blood sugar, you have high blood glucose. To eliminate the fat, the insulin causes your body to stop burning stored body fat for energy and makes you begin burning new fat which started out a couple of minutes before as a soft drink, candy or chips, a bit of bread, or anything high in sugar or carbs.
Your body makes considerably more fat from any food or beverage high in carbohydrates or sugar than you could possibly burn sitting in a desk or puttering around the house. And the fat not instantly burned for energy, is pushed into your fat cells, which grow, and expand, and get bigger and bigger, so you gain weight.
Apart from being the ROOT CAUSE of almost ALL weight reduction, elevated insulin due to not eating for blood glucose control, is the DIRECT and PRIMARY cause of the majority of high blood pressure, most high cholesterol, practically all type-two diabetes, etc.
Maybe the best health suggestion and the best weight loss tip ever is to understand how to consume blood glucose control... because when you do so, you naturally burn stored body fat for energy, you don't make and keep new fat, and, in all likelihood, your blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides and other significant health indicators will stay in a normal healthy selection, with no special effort on your part.
On one level, being healthy, vital and powerful requires only two easy steps;
1) Do things that help your body produce health and energy, like eating for blood glucose control, and;
2) Avoid things that interfere with your body's ability to function at it's natural, healthiest best, like eating anything that spikes your blood glucose throughout the day, such as soft drinks, candy, bread, rice. Potatoes, pasta, chips, etc. Please discuss this information with your friends and family members. The information in this movie, (see below), is extremely powerful and accurate. Put it to work on your own life and I promise you will benefit.

Lance was waiting on his porch the following morning. Keith couldn’t help but think that he lit up when he heard the motorcycle come up his driveway.
“Good morning!” He crowed. “Did you eat and everything?”
“Uh, yeah,” Keith assured. Lance gave him a lopsided grin.
“Mama’s been trying to get you to come inside all last week so she could feed you and tell you that you’re too skinny.” He admitted. “The only one she leaves alone is Hunk, and even then she makes sure he’s drinking whole milk and not skim.” Keith chuckled.
“She’d probably die at our place, then. Me and Shiro are lactose intolerant.” Lance chuckled.
“She’d ask you how you expect to milk a soybean.” They laughed at that, and Lance put on Shiro’s helmet.
“So did you and Shiro, er, Mr. Shirogane?” He stuttered. Keith laughed again.
“You can call him Shiro when we’re not at school.” Lance nodded gratefully.
“You guys have a good time Saturday? We hang out at the Starlite all the time, and if you guys want, you can always be invited,” Lance babbled. “Coran’s always on the lookout for more people to strangle with his old stories, and Allura was probably grateful for the break from our idiocy,”
“We did,” Keith broke in, starting his bike. “If you’d have us again, we’d love to come.” Lance was glad Keith stopped him from making a complete ass of himself.
“Great! Yeah, we usually go every Saturday, but sometimes after the one club meeting we’ll stop by.” Keith nodded.
“What club is it? Shiro’s been bugging me to join clubs,” They pulled out of the driveway.
“Oh, nothing good! It’s uh, a young leadership thing. Super boring, but Mama wants it on my resume, you know,” Lance babbled. Keith frowned.
“That sounds like exactly the thing that Shiro would want me to join,” He sighed. He tried to tell Shiro that he didn’t have a leadership bone in his body, but Shiro had insisted.
“You know what club is really fun,” Lance began. He was essentially yelling in the general direction of Keith’s right ear. “Is drama club. Boy, I love drama club,”
“So you stalled him.” Hunk said from the stove. Lance sighed and leaned on Pidge’s workbench. They squawked and batted him away before turning back to the robot-in-process.
“Sure, but for how long? And besides, I feel like this is just cruel,” Lance replied.
“Can I get a hand?” Pidge broke on. Lance rolled his eyes and reached out for the wires Pidge was holding. He closed his eyes and tried to calm his mind. Pidge would get pissed if he accidentally fried Rover while thinking about a certain mullet. “A little more juice,” Lance upped the amps flowing through his body until Pidge called for a halt.
           “You got it?” Lance asked.
“Yep. This should actually be it,” Pidge put their palms on the creation and their eyes flashed lime green. “Yeah. That’s it. You folks ready?”
“Yeah, go ahead.” Hunk said, eagerly watching the robot. Pidge whistled.
“Rover! Here boy,” The pyramidal robot shook to life and picked itself up off the workbench. “Good boy,” Pidge cooed. The newly-dubbed Rover hovered behind them. “It’s an assistant bot! Rover here has similar hacking magic that I do. Even though it’s limited, he can open doors, get data from servers, bring down internet connectivity, and even run a few basic scripts!” Lance stared at the thing blankly. “Oh, and he’s got WiFi.”
“What the password?” Lance tugged his phone out.
“You’re already connected,” Pidge said smugly.
“This is why I love you, Pidgeon,” Lance said, smiling. One thing made him pause. “How do you do that, anyway?”
“Oh, I can get into your phones with my head like I do mine.” Lance paled and gasped. “You should really clear your cache more often.”
“You can’t go looking through a guy’s search history like that! It’s-it’s-it’s illegal, and immoral, and rude!” Hunk chuckled.
“What are you so scared of, Lance? Nervous Pidge will find all the searches for mullets?” Pidge cackled.
“Not just any mullets, motorcycle mullets,” Pidge taunted. Lance, outraged, pounced on Pidge and clamped a hand over their mouth. In retaliation, Pidge licked his palm, but Lance laughed darkly.
“You forget: I’m the oldest of five. I’m not afraid of you, Pidgeon.” Pidge stilled for a moment, and Lance shrieked in pain. “What the hell is wrong with you?!”
“Be afraid.” Lance held up his hand.
“The little gremlin bit me!” Hunk laughed.
“Need some ointment?” He offered. He finished stirring the mixture in the pot thirty-three times, clockwise, and opened up a drawer.
“Got anything that’ll make sure I don’t get rabies?” Lance growled, making his way over to Hunk’s workstation. “I juice up Rover and this is the thanks I get,”
“Lance, I know that you think keeping Keith in the dark is terrible and all, and I agree. I like him. Maybe not as much as you,” Lance glared. “Okay, definitely not as much as you, but I like him a lot. I want him to be our friend. But he can’t know about this. It keeps us safe, and it’ll keep him safe too, in the long run.” Hunk said, smoothing some balm on Lance’s hand. The teeth marks went away immediately and Lance was met with a pleasant cooling sensation.
“But what if he asks us to hang out?” Lance said, flopping down on one of the bar stools near Hunk.
“Can you heat this?” Hunk murmured, handing Lance an Erlenmeyer flask. “About 300 degrees.” Lance placed a palm on the bottom of the flask and continued to swirl it around as it bubbled. “Then you tell him what we always do: we’re busy, want to hang tomorrow?”
“Hunk, we’ve never had to tell anybody that,” Pidge said, inspecting Rover’s exterior.
“Everybody we’ve ever been friends with is in here.” Lance gestured with his free hand. “Keith is… Different. And besides,” Lance said, face darkening. “We’ve gone and ruined him. I’d say that for his sake, we should let him go. Make him go be friends with somebody else. But everybody’s already seen him with us.”
“Nobody wants to be friends with the circus freaks,” Pidge grumbled.
“Hey.” Hunk said sternly. “No using the f-word.”
“Fucking. Freaks.” Lance sighed. Hunk bristled but continued mincing a root that smelled like Lance’s mom’s cooking to his nose, but Hunk’s grandma’s incense to his. “We’re going to have to do something soon. He’s definitely on to us.”
“He’s hiding something,” Keith said into Shiro’s carpet.
“You know I haven’t vacuumed up here since we moved in,” Shiro said mildly. There was a long pause, where Keith made it clear that he wouldn’t comment on that statement, and Shiro sighed. “Why do you think he’s hiding something?”
“He won’t tell me what club he, Hunk, and Pidge are in. He keeps being so secretive about the club and what they do there, and when I told him I’m supposed to join clubs, he tried to tell me I didn’t want to join their club.” Keith frowned. “What could they be doing that they don’t want me around?”
“Well, when do they meet?” Shiro shuffled a few papers around on his desk. “I’ve got the full list of clubs here, and we could figure out what club it is, see if he’s just embarrassed about a hobby.” Keith peeled himself off the floor and flopped down on the corner of Shiro’s bed closest to his desk.
“What hobby would he be embarrassed about?” Keith snorted.
“You never know. What if he’s in like, horse riding club?” Shiro said, shrugging. “When do they meet?”
“He said they meet Monday, Wednesday, and Friday after school.” Shiro scanned the pages and frowned, flipping back and forth.
“None of the clubs meet during all three of those days. You sure it wasn’t two different ones?” Keith crossed his arms.
“He kept talking about it like it was just the one, and then when I asked him, he said it was a youth leadership club. Singular.” Shiro leaned back in his chair and mirrored Keith, gripping his bicep. Both boys had the same expression on, one that they’d jokingly label their dad’s ‘Serious Expression Number One’ had they not been deep in considerations.
“Why would he lie about being in a club in the first place, if it wasn’t even a club?” Shiro wondered aloud. “And you’re sure he’s doing stuff at this time, and not just trying to cover for needing to be home?”
“I’m not sure. He doesn’t get a ride home from me those days.” Keith offered. “And he seemed really jazzed about riding to and from school with me, for some reason,” Shiro grinned.
“Oh, I could think of a few reasons,” Keith turned red and mashed his face with his palms. “I’m just saying, I used to take prospective dates out on rides around the lake, just them, me, the bike,”
“Focus, Shiro.” Keith snapped. “Maybe I’ll invite him over Wednesday, then see what he says.”
“I know this is revolutionary,” Shiro began. “But why don’t you just ask him? Outright, no crazy plots or plans.”
“But he might not answer me,” Keith frowned.
“And that’s well within his rights, Keith. The two of you don’t owe each other anything. If he wants to have secrets, he’s allowed. Just let him know that he doesn’t have to lie to you about it because that’s the part you’re pissed about, isn’t it?” Shiro said gently. Keith sighed and flopped back onto the bed.
“Yeah. I don’t care what he’s doing,” Keith waved a hand in the air. “He could be sitting at his house in his underwear watching TV after school three days a week, I don’t care. I just want him to be honest about it.” Keith took a few deep breaths, and Shiro let him have his moment. “Why are you in my brain?” Shiro laughed.
“Because that’s my job, little bro. Text your friend. I need to finish grading these papers.” Keith sat up and slid down from the bed. He paused on his way past Shiro, hooking him into a hug from behind.
“Thanks,” Keith said quietly. “You’re the best.”
Mysterious Motorcycle Mullet Man: hey, do you have a minute?
lance: Yeah! What’s up?
lance: You okay?
lance: Keith?
Mysterious Motorcycle Mullet Man: i was just wondering, i guess. i know that the thing you go to after school isn’t a club, which is totally fine. we just met and i don’t want to give you the wrong idea but like, you don’t have to lie to me. you’ve got a thing with hunk and pidge mondays, wednesdays, and fridays, and that’s cool. i respect your privacy. but like, it kinda messed with me that you said it was a club and it wasn’t, you know?
“We have to tell him,” Lance said, looking from his phone to Hunk, to Pidge. “I didn’t think he’d be upset about it.” Hunk frowned deeply, reading the text again.
“Lance’s right.” Pidge finally said. “What would we think if the situation was reversed?”
“I’d think you didn’t like me,” Lance said quietly. “That you were only friends with me because I’m the new kid.”
“That’s not true, and you know that.” Hunk said. “He fits with us so well. He fights with you, messes up Pidge’s hair, is nice to my parents.” Hunk sighed. “But what if he tells someone? We don’t know if we can trust him.”
“Who’s going to believe him if he does tell?” Pidge replied. “He’s a new kid, and while everybody thinks we’re weird, I don’t think they immediately jump to ‘witches’.”
“What do I say?” Lance said, thumbs hovering over the keyboard. Hunk drummed his hands on the steering wheel.
“Ask him if he wants us to come over.” Hunk finally said. Lance replied, and his phone lit up again almost instantaneously.
“He said sure. Shiro’s home.” Lance reported. “Should we tell him, too?”
“He’s going to know the second we leave anyway,” Pidge said wryly. “Matt already knows you like Keith.” Lance didn’t even object as Hunk turned the car around.
“Call your parents, then call mine.” Hunk sighed.
“Uh, Shiro?” Keith knocked on the doorframe. Shiro turned around in his chair.
“Did you ask?” Keith nodded. “What did he say?” Keith passed the phone over and Shiro read through the messages. “You worded that really well. I’m proud of you.” Shiro murmured. “They’re coming over now?”
“I guess,” Keith mumbled. “Is that okay?”
“Yeah, I guess, but how suspicious can you get?” Shiro replied, frowning and handing back the phone. “Do you mind if I grade papers at the table?”
“No, absolutely,” Keith agreed. He helped Shiro schlepp his teetering stack of lab reports and discussion questions to the kitchen table, and tried to make it look like he’d been there awhile. Keith started tea, forgot about tea, and tried to make a new cup before Shiro pointed out his old cup cooling on the counter.
“Hey. They’re not going to do anything crazy.” Shiro reassured him. “They’re a bunch of high school students. How bad can it be?”
A knock at the front door had Keith running through the scenarios in his head. What if they’re drug lords? What if they’re assassins? What if they’re drug lord assassin spies for the government?
“Are you gonna get it or am I?” Shiro asked flatly. Keith’s legs carried him, of their own will, to the front door.
“Hey,” He gasped. “Do you guys want some tea?” Hunk and Lance shared a look as Pidge flopped down on the couch.
“Sure,” Hunk said, forcibly light. “What kind do you have?”
“Uh, some green, some herbal,” Keith said. “I’m partial to a lavender chamomile,”
“Oh, wow, can I have some of that? It’s good for, uh. For nerves.” Hunk tugged on his shirt.
“Nerds,” Pidge hissed, grinning. It relieved some of the tension.
“Hi, guys,” Shiro greeted from the table. “How’s Monday treating you?”
“As good as Mondays can, I guess,” Lance said, chuckling and rubbing the back of his neck. “What about you?”
“I guess I learned the first rule of being a high school teacher,” Shiro said as Keith glared the tea kettle into submission. “Weekend homework means Monday grading.” Hunk and Pidge groaned.
“You’re telling me,” Pidge whined. Shiro laughed, and Keith juggled four mugs of tea, depositing one in front of each person, before going back to clutch his like a lifeline. He perched on the couch with Lance, and the four looked at each other with varying degrees of mild panic.
“Well, this is delightful,” Pidge snarked.
“Pidgeon,” Lance snapped, before taking a deep breath. “Look at us. We’re idiots,” He breathed, chuckling. “Alright, so… We’ve never done this before, so, I guess it’s just going to be awkward.” Shiro could hear Keith grinding his teeth from the kitchen. “We’ve been secretive, but we think it’s with good reason. What we’re going to show you—“ Hunk hissed, “Show?” and Lance waved a hand at him. “What we’re going to show you will probably freak you out, and we don’t want to lose a friend over it, so just… Keep an open mind, alright?”
“Lance,” Keith sighed, and in his driest voice, he continued. “I once sat outside with a flashlight and a tape recorder, trying to catch Bigfoot mating calls on tape. If my mind got any more open, the damn thing would fall out.” Shiro snorted into his tea.
“You might want to come over for this, too, Shiro,” Pidge said seriously.
“I’ll go first,” Lance said, setting his tea back down on the coffee table. Shiro drifted into the living room and leant against the wall, watching Lance curiously. “Here goes nothing.” He put his hand out, palm up, and shut his eyes. For a moment, Keith wondered what in the hell he was supposed to be watching, until a small flame flickered to life in the centre of Lance’s palm. It danced for a heartbeat before Lance took a deep breath and it grew. It engulfed his whole hand, then his arm, and began to turn blue. Keith could feel the heat radiating off of him. As quickly as it came, it vanished, and Lance shifted. He held his hands about a foot apart in front of him, and in moments, a spark of electricity jumped between them. Keith jumped, and finally, Lance took a deep, deep breath and exhaled onto the fingertips of his hand. Ice crystals formed around his fingers and icicles dangled down his wrist. He opened his eyes, and the worry there made Keith’s heart clench.
           “Oh,” Keith said. “What…?”
“I can do wind, too, but… Not in the house.” Lance said sheepishly.
“I appreciate it,” Shiro said levelly. Keith looked over at him, and his eyes were blown wide.
“You guys too?” Keith asked, voice cracking.
“Uh, kinda.” Hunk supplied. “Mine’s not really, uh, demonstrative. I do potions?” He said. It sounded like a question. “If you ever got a headache, give me a buzz,”
“And I’m a techromancer.” Pidge supplied with a grin.
“No, no, no. Lame,” Lance cut in. “You can’t just say ‘techromancer’, you sound like a bad eighties sci-fi flick,”
“What if that’s the plan?” Pidge scoffed. “Even a bad eighties sci-fi flick is better than a good new sci-fi flick,”
           “Name one!” Lance exclaimed.
“Uh, Blade Runner,” Keith said, automatically. “Please, it’s a masterpiece,”
“Thank you,” Pidge said, waving a hand at Keith.
“The Terminator? Back to the Future?” Keith continued.
“We’re forgetting the most important one,” Shiro said, raising his hand. “Flash Gordon.”
“Just because you have a hard-on for Flash,” Keith scoffed.
“Who doesn’t have a hard-on for Flash?” Lance asked incredulously.
“Okay, I really, really, don’t want to talk about any hard-on, ever.” Hunk said, looking violently green. There was a moment where everyone in the room tried to process the past ten minutes, and Keith broke the silence with a wheezing laugh. Lance soon joined in, and even Hunk managed to chuckle.
“Are we okay?” Lance finally asked. The same worried look from before came back, and Keith nodded once.
           “We’re okay.”

Brand Secrets for Standing Out in a Crowded World
These days, we live in a world of infinite supply…
In just a few clicks, anyone can start a business. Anyone can create products, build an online store, publish ads, and reach an audience online. This means that every market is becoming flooded with businesses offering similar products, features, and solutions.
So to stand out you need to have a brand that your customers connect with, and care about deeply.
In this post, we’ll be sharing some tips and strategies to help you to build your brand. These insights all come from our new podcast series — it’s called Breaking Brand and it’s out there for you to listen to right now.
Tumblr media
What exactly is a brand?
Before we jump into some strategies and tactics for creating a brand your customers will truly care about, let’s first look at what exactly a brand is.
The word “brand” is used a lot in marketing today. But what exactly does brand mean? That question that might sound simple… but is actually pretty complex, and there isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer.
David Ogilvy describes a brand as “the intangible sum of a product’s attributes.”
Marty Neumeier, an author and speaker who writes about branding and innovation, says “a brand is a person’s gut feeling about a product, service, or organization.”
And Camille Baldwin, one of the Pattern Brands founding team, and star of Breaking Brand, says “brand to me is identity. It’s all of the things that make up identity, your values, your principles, who you are, your characteristics and your intention.”
Brand to me is identity. It’s all of the things that make up identity, your values, your principles, who you are, your characteristics and your intention.
Camille Baldwin, VP of Brand, Pattern Brands
So to summarize… Your brand is the identity of your business, and how it makes people feel.
Now, let’s dive into some takeaways from Breaking Brand to help you build a buzzworthy brand that stands out against your competitors.
4 Ways to build a memorable brand
1. Know what your consumers care about
Most people are really good at explaining the “what” and the “how” of their business. For example, say you’re an accountancy company, describing the what and the how is pretty simple…
What you do is you help individuals and businesses to ensure their finances are in shape.
How you do it might vary, but it tends to involve some form of account management where you assist with invoicing or balance the books every month or quarter.
And the thing that will help one accountancy company stand out from its competitors is moving from the what and the how to the why.
The “why” is what will make a potential customer choose your business over another. The “why” is your differentiator.
In general, consumers aren’t too fussed about how you do your work — the tools you use, your internally processes, and things like that. What consumers care about is “why does this business matter in my life?”
And to go back to the accountancy example — we already explained the what and the how — but the “why” might not be so obvious. For example, if an accountancy company mostly serves small businesses, the “why” might freeing up time for the business owner to spend with family and friends.
So how do you find your why?
Customer research is a great place to start.
At Buffer we often do research interviews with customers to learn how our product helps them, and to better understand how they describe the benefits of Buffer. We’ve even had teammates spend the day with customers at their offices to see first-hand how Buffer fits into their routines and workflows.
And in Breaking Brand, Emmet Shine, co-founder of Pattern Brands, talks about the importance of knowing the customer when it comes to building a brand consumers will care about.
Before starting Pattern Brands, Emmett helped over 50 businesses launch to market, and one of those businesses was Sweetgreen, a restaurant chain selling healthy salads and grain bowls.
When working on the Sweetgreen brand and trying to understand its customers, Emmett and his team spent countless hours at Sweetgreen restaurants. They would watch how the staff would prepare salads, listen to how customers would place orders and immerse themselves in how the company works.
Essentially, they were trying to understand every tiny detail about what made Sweetgreen unique and special.
This enabled the team to craft a brand that really emphasised what customers were looking for from Sweetgreen and helped them to find their “why”.
Tumblr media
Now Sweetgreen has over 75 restaurants and reportedly generated in excess of £100 million in 2018. So they clearly have a brand that fits what consumers are looking for.
2. Find the technical, functional, and emotional benefits of your business
Once you’ve done your customer research, you can begin to think about the various types of benefits your business offers consumers.
In episode one of Breaking Brand, Pattern’s VP of Brand, Camille Baldwin shares how the brand pyramid framework can help you to define those benefits.
Brand pyramids have been around since the late nineties, but still play a key role in brand strategy. Pyramids help you to answer fundamental questions about your business and its place in the market. Here’s an example brand pyramid from Insead Knowledge:
Tumblr media
Three of the key elements of any brand pyramid are the technical, functional and emotional benefits your business offers consumers.
Technical benefits
At the bottom of your pyramid, you’re thinking about the technical benefits of your brand (labeled ‘Features and attributes’ in the above image). Essentially this will help you to define what you do as a company. At this stage you’ll want to ask questions like: How is this business benefiting the consumers? How will it make money? What are we offering?
For example, at Buffer we might say the technical benefit of our product is to manage all of your social media content and profiles in one place.
Functional benefits
Then, with the technical benefits of your brand defined, it’s time to look at the functional benefits you can offer consumers. Functional benefits are essentially what your customers get when they buy your product or service.
Functional benefits tend to focus on things like how a product can improve your life, help you stay connected to others or help you to make forward progress.
At Buffer, a functional benefit might be not having to hit publish manually every-time you want to share to social media. Or in the case of a car: a big, spacious family car will offer the functional benefit of space for your whole family to travel in comfort.
Emotional benefits
Next up, are emotional benefits. And these are really what makes one brand stand out from another.
Emotional benefits are how your brand makes someone feel based on the stories you tell consumers.
One emotional benefit of Nike, for example, is that its equipment will make you feel like a professional athlete. And at Buffer we might say the emotional benefit of our product is peace of mind knowing that your content will be posted to social media platforms at exactly the right time every time.
As you go through everything you’ve learned during your customer research phase, start looking out for emotion-based words your customers, or potential customers, use to describe your company or the problem you’re solving.
Whenever someone says “I feel” or “it made me.. happy, relaxed, proud, or healthy”, for example, this helps you to identify the emotional benefits your company delivers.
 3. Craft a simple tagline and message
Just Do It, Think Different, I’m Lovin’ It…
Those are all examples of great brand taglines. By saying just two or three words, I bet you knew exactly which businesses I was talking about. And that’s the power of being able to boil your message down to something simple, and memorable.
In episode three of Breaking Brand, Emmett Shine, co-founder of Pattern Brands explains: “The thing about branding and marketing, is you can do years worth of research. But if you can’t boil it down to this thin sliced tagline it doesn’t matter.”
The thing about branding and marketing, is you can do years worth of research. But if you can’t boil it down to this thin sliced tagline it doesn’t matter.
Emmett Shine, Executive Creative Director, Pattern Brands
But this isn’t easy to do.
It took the Patten Brands team months of ideating and back-and-forth to land on their tagline “Enjoy Daily Life”.
But now that simple statement acts as a guiding light for everything they do. From the content they post on social media to the products they sell.
Boiling your whole business down to one sentence, or even just a couple of words can be very tough. And you can’t force it. One of the best ways to craft the perfect tagline is to facilitate brainstorms and create space for idea sharing. Another thing the Pattern Brands team has done was to journal about their business and riff on ideas in private too.
And sometimes the best ideas will come to you outside of the office. So don’t be afraid to think outside the box, and away from your desk.
Communicating a clear message in just a few words is very difficult. One way we’ve found to come up with taglines at Buffer is to start long and edit down.
So to begin with, write exactly what your business delivers for customers in as many words as it take — this could be a paragraph or two, maybe even longer. And remember to think about the emotional benefits here too, not just the technical and functional benefits you offer.
Next, you’ll want to take what you’ve just written and edit it down to just one or two sentences. Repeat that process to make it one sentence, or just a few words. Then take that final piece of copy and play with a number of different versions: Rewrite it, change out words, and experiment with different lengths. This process will help you to distill all of the thoughts you wanted to share about your business into a short, memorable tagline.
Now you might be wondering: “Why is a tagline so important?”
From personal experience, I know I’ve never bought a Mac because their tagline is “think different.” But having that tagline in places means that Apple has a clear mission, and everything it does — from the adverts it makes, to its keynote launches — is guided by that vision.
4. Ensure your business lives and breaths your brand
To be successful, and for consumers to trust your message, you have to live your brand.
For example, Nike says its mission is to “bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete in the world.” And the company sees every single person as an athlete, not just the pros.
But Nike doesn’t just say that, it lives by it.
That’s why the company focuses on creating the most innovative clothing and footwear, and why its advertising revolves around inspirational messages and stories.
Nike’s brand is reflected in every piece of content it puts out on social media. Just before writing this, I jumped over to Nike’s main Instagram account, here are just a few posts I spotted:
An IGTV video with Saquon Barkley sharing where his NFL dreams started.
A photo of women’s marathon world record holder Brigid Kosgei with former record holder Paula Radcliffe.
A photo of Rafael Nadal sharing his ambitions as a child.
Tumblr media
Of course, not all businesses will have the resources of Nike, or the access to global superstars for that matter. But it still serves of a great example of ensuring the essense of your brand shines through on every platform.
To go back to the accountancy example I mentioned earlier. If your “why” or emotional benefit is giving small business owners more free time to spend away from work, you could ensure all of your messaging and content supports this mission. This could mean Instagram posts with clients enjoying themselves away from the office or blog posts about disconnecting from work. It could even mean you rethink the imagery and copy you use on your website.
As I mentioned right at the start of this post, your brand is the identity of your business and how it makes people feel. So every single touchpoint where someone can interact with your business should represent what you want your brand to be, and how you want people to feel.

Thank Brand Secrets for Standing Out in a Crowded World for first publishing this post.

Pyramid Scheme scammer ends up paying in the end!
warning: very long story.
About 6 or 7 years ago, I was trying to enlist into the military. I ended up not joining but that's a story for another time. At this point, I was led to believe I was about 4 months away from leaving for Boot camp. I was running out of savings, and needing a part time job for some spending cash while I waited around.
So I did what any enterprising 20something would do, and searched craigslist for jobs. I normally hate sales jobs, especially those based on commissions, but figured it would be a great way to earn some extra cash short term. Found a few job listings that looked promising, and put out some applications. A few days later I received a call from David. He was opening up a new store and needed associates. He liked my resume and asked if I'd be available for an interview on Friday morning. I was very up front with him, and let him know that the distance was a bit more than I'd normally drive for a retail job, and asked what he was offering for an hourly rate, to see if it was worth the drive. He told me that they were planning on offering an hourly rate in the mid teens, along with commission. Seemed like an ok deal, so I agreed to be there Friday at 8am.
Friday arrives as a cold rainy day. I wear a nice shirt and tie, and drive in heavy traffic to the address David provided. I knew the area from a previous job, and eventually found the strip mall I was looking for. However, I'm not seeing any signage for the company name that was listed. There is however, one empty space with no signage and two people inside. Ok, maybe they havent gotten the store set up yet. No big deal. I had arrived early, knowing how bad traffic can be in that area. While in my car, I witnessed a young lady in business casual dress remove a sign from the window stating "Retail Space for Rent! Call 1800-Blah-blah". Ok, a little weird but maybe it's the first day in the space.
I walk in about 5 minutes early, and immediately my BS meter goes from Yellow to the highest level, "Black Watch Plaid". The tables are all simple plastic folding tables. The kind college kids would buy for beer pong while on a shopping trip to target. The walls are plastered with laminated charts featuring tons of dollar signs, smiling faces from stock photos, and an organizational chart showing an all to familiar shape.
A Pyramid. God damnit. Alright, might as well have fun for a while to wait out traffic going home.
The young lady in the dress approaches me, introducing herself as Cindy. She welcomed me to Company Name, and asked me to have a seat. She sat at her "desk" (another plastic table), and pretended to go through paper work. However she was really just shuffling papers around. We get to chatting, and I ask her how long she's worked for David. She says she's been his secretary for about 6 months and that I'm going to love it here. Eventually, a guy walks out of the back office. Early 30's, clean cut, wearing an ill fitting suit from JcPenny's. As he is walking over, all smiles, Cindy says "Oh, Dennis! Our newest recruit is here!"
The guy stops in his tracks and gives her a cold stare. "It's David, Cindy. We've been over this". He turns back to me and gives me his brightest "Hard to find good help these days" smile. David sits me down and welcomes me, saying they are going to start with a group interview and has me sit down in a circle of chairs. Eventually more people come in and sit down. David gets up and begins to thank us all for coming. He tells us about an exciting new opportunity from Cutco! He pulls out a set of knives, and explains how with his company we can make as much money as we want, all while setting our own hours. He even pulls out a text book, saying about how this companies "revolutionary tactics" have even been featured in college textbooks! He opened to a page, his hand covering parts of it, making sure we can all clearly see the words "CUTCO!" in large letters on the page.
Sad to say, a lot of the other interviewees were very impressed by this. One pregnant girl seemed very excited that she could work around her pregnancy and upcoming birth. David was going on and on about how much money he's made and how "hard workers will rise to the top quickly".
At this point, David said he needed to take a quick phone call, and gave us 5 minutes to have some coffee, chit chat, whatever. As he stepped away, he left his college textbook behind. Oops. So I pick it up, find the earmarked page, and read. As I thought, it was all about pyramid schemes and it had Cutco as one of the largest examples. It goes on to talk about how these are essentially scams, not economically viable, etc etc.
So I decide the share this all with the group. I explain how pyramid schemes work, and how he's just scamming us. They seemed incredulous, so I said when David gets back, to ask them about what we need to pay to get started. That finally got everyone to realize what was going on.
David walks in a few minutes later, and one of the girls in the group asked David what we need to get started. "Well, all you need is your first set of knives to demonstrate! You can sell that on directly or have them order one and keep that as your demo kit. Doesn't matter. Just have to pay the start up fees for it"
And that's when all hell broke loose. One kid started to get up and tell him to go fuck himself, saying he's wasting our time and he's an asshole for trying to pull this shit. The pregnant girl is crying because she thought she found a place that would allow her to work despite being pregnant. David is clearly confused and flustered, and asking who told them all this. When it becomes apparent I'm the wrench in the machine, David gets upset and starts telling me to leave. People are yelling at David, David is yelling at me, Cindy is trying to tell everyone she never met David before today and didn't know what this bullshit was. Eventually we all walk out leaving David behind.
As I'm walking to the door, I see, leaning against the wall, the sign that was in the window before "Retail Space for Rent! Call 1800-Blah-Blah". As I get into my car I dial the number. Eventually I get through to a person, and ask about the property for rent at the location of David's company. The nice lady on the phone apologized, saying they had just leased that property out. I asked if she knew how long the lease was for, as I was really interested in the property. She said she wasnt sure, they hadn't done the official paperwork yet. They were on there way to the space to sign everything with the lease holder in a few hours. I told her everything that had just happened to me, and about David using the space for a Pyramid scheme. She got extremely upset, saying that this stuff happens all the time in the industry. They will go to sign and last minute the lease holder will decide to opt out, after using it for some fly by night operation. She thanked me for the info, and I thought that was the end of that.
Or so I thought.
A few weeks later, I received an email from David. Telling me how I ruined his life. About how the property management found out what was going on, and weren't refunding his down payment on the space. Saying he violated a clause in the paperwork he signed to hold the property. How he knew I was the one who called because I'm a terrible human being, etc etc. Now he was out thousands for the space and supplies, how he only wanted to give us jobs and help us. It was a long, very angry email, with several things said about me and my mother.
So I called 1800-blah-blah again, spoke with the same lady I did before, and she was VERY interested in an email from David where he essentially admitted to what he was trying to do. Said it would help them all in the legal proceedings. And don't you know I was more than happy to send that email along to her. Her lawyer said it should be an open and shut case at that point.
I like to think I'm a helper.

The Thoughts of Leonardo Da Vinci
Tumblr media
Throughout the centuries, every era has interpreted Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519), discovering him to be remarkably trendy. On the 500th anniversary of his dying (Might 2, 2019) we are able to think about Leonardo's that means in our period. Our elementary nature as human beings has not modified in 500 years, however our surroundings has remodeled at a rare fee, together with our views on his accomplishments--and our personal. THE NATURE OF GENIUS Leonardo is a genius and a potent image of the "universal man" due to the breadth of his pursuits within the arts, science and expertise, spanning disciplines from chemistry (he found acetone) to astronomy (he found the lumen cinereum of the moon) to math (he found the middle of gravity of a pyramid) to working with plastics. Genius takes many varieties, and in Leonardo's case we acknowledge his limitations. He was defensive about his lack of formal training; he known as himself "omo sanza lettere" (a person with out letters). He had bother with primary arithmetic operations, and his Latin abilities have been weak. He absolutely wouldn't have carried out properly in a contemporary faculty system, and his IQ might need been examined as low. (I don't imagine he can or ought to be recognized with any situation akin to autism spectrum dysfunction or attention-deficit/hyperactivity dysfunction.) Many individuals marvel if there may very well be a genius like Leonardo immediately, or what an individual of his disposition would do. Maybe there can't be one other like him as a result of immediately's world requires super specialization. Many people are in fields that demand interdisciplinary considering. However few scientists, physicians, poets or politicians immediately are known as geniuses. A UNIFIED VISION OF NATURE'S LAWS Leonardo's science was grounded within the Aristotelian world as formed by 18 centuries of interpreters. He developed a system of what he known as the 4 powers of nature: motion, weight, drive and percussion. Though he struggled to outline these ideas, and lots of the concepts are archaic, it's telling that he developed a coherent mannequin for all pure phenomena starting from the macrocosm (e.g., geological forces that result in the formation of rivers and oceans) to the microcosm (e.g., human anatomy). I imagine he was enthusiastic about his conception of the 4 powers and the way they knowledgeable his artwork and science. We're on the same form of path immediately, looking for the grand unification of the legal guidelines of physics as we research pure phenomena from subatomic particles to the historical past of the universe. Few of us prolong this try at unification to the humanities as properly. VISUALIZED KNOWLEDGE To Leonardo, imaginative and prescient is the noblest of the senses and of paramount significance, and his ardour for imaginative and prescient was excessive. "The eye is the window of the human body through which the soul views and enjoys the beauties of the world. Because of it, the soul is content in its human prison, and without it this human prison is its torment" he writes in his Paragone (comparability of the humanities). He emphasised methods to visualise information and he pioneered anatomical illustration. To Leonardo, portray was a science, and the inventive act of portray is beneficial to visualise the world. As an anatomist and physiologist he determined at one level that the sense of imaginative and prescient is so essential that it should be mediated by its personal mind area, the "imprensiva." Seeing additionally has the that means of paying consideration, and Leonardo did this with beautiful endurance. He would strike a dusty desk and describe the sample by which the mud settled once more. He carried out repeated dissections of the physique, and when his observations conflicted with these of his authorities, he was generally in a position to liberate himself and pioneer unique discoveries. FAITH IN EXPERIENCE Leonardo was most snug counting on his senses as the idea of significant expertise. He summarizes his angle in regards to the surety of science. "To me it seems that those sciences are vain and full of error which are not born of experience, mother of all certainty, firsthand experience which in its origins, or means, or end has passed through one of the five senses. And if we doubt the certainty of everything which passes through the senses, how much more ought we to doubt things contrary to these senses such as the existence of god or of the soul or similar things over which there is always dispute and contention," he writes in his Treatise on Portray. For Leonardo, this religion in expertise was largely visible. Within the 21st century we perceive we can not derive all information from sensory expertise, and lots of us finding out genomes or in any other case utilizing computer systems have encountered the bounds of empiricism. Confronted with immediately's world, little question Leonardo would have been sensible at visualizing info. INTERDISCIPLINARY SCIENCE Leonardo's considering was interdisciplinary. When he injected wax into the mind or into the guts to make casts of the inside workings of the physique, he was borrowing the "lost wax" approach acquainted to sculptors. When he studied friction and invented curler bearings and ball bearings he reasoned that frictional resistance differs in accordance with the character of the surfaces involved, and will increase in direct proportion to load, and he even estimated (for the primary time) a coefficient of friction. However he went additional to comprehend its relevance not simply to machines however to the actions of tendons over bones; to the creation of warmth by the guts; and to the manufacturing of voice by the friction of air on the vocal cords. CREATIVITY IN SCIENCE AND ART Creativity is productiveness marked by creativeness. Creativity is as primary to artwork as to science. We will be inventive as lecturers, as college students, as writers and readers. We are able to admire the numerous aspects of Leonardo's creativity, and it could actually encourage us immediately. Leonardo mixed science, artwork and engineering in a novel method. In his time "scientia" referred to information whereas"ars" referred to guide proficiency. The trendy distinction between the sciences and humanities, famously described by C.P. Snow, didn't exist because it does immediately. Leonardo was properly positioned as an artist to imagine the mission of a scientist. For Leonardo, the artist's inventive, noble goal is to depict the pure world. The artist should perceive all the world as a scientist would. FULFILLMENT OF HUMAN POTENTIAL At present we are able to admire all that Leonardo completed, in addition to his many failures, seeing somebody who fulfilled his potential in a novel method. He was appreciated as a rare artist in his personal lifetime, and his admirers had a way that his explorations of the worlds of science and engineering have been distinctive. He has impressed generations for 500 years, with our appreciation rising prior to now century as we have now been in a position to interpret his writings. As ever-increasing entry to info and expertise shapes immediately's world, we as a society could mirror on Leonardo's values of creativity, curiosity, expertise and realizing learn how to see. We admire his values, and we could marvel how they match into modern society. I'm not certain he would have thrived. We are able to additionally marvel how his values may assist every of us attempt to fulfill our personal potential; from this standpoint, tens of millions of us are impressed by his life's journey. Basic Needs
According to Abraham Maslow, humans have a hierarchy of needs. His pyramid of needs starts at the bottom and works its way to the top. In order to reach the next level a person must feel satisfied at the previous level. Maslow’s theory is used to better understand what drives and motivates human behavior.
Watch the video below to better understand Maslow’s theory.
youtube
Being a teacher, you probably understand that is important for student’s most basic needs to be met before we can motivate them to learn. The same goes for you! If you are not meeting your most basic needs, then you will not be able to perform at your greatest potential. Looking at the hierarchy of needs basic needs fall in the lowest level; physiological. By not taking care of the most basic needs, you will be less likely to be intrinsically motivated to move upward.
Below are easy to incorporate tricks and tips to be sure you are meeting your basic needs.
1. Nutrition
Tumblr media
Meal Prepping is a great habit to start! Before going to the grocery store map out the meals you would like to eat for the week. Mapping out your meals will allow you to think about the food choices you are making and provide the time you need to make healthier choices. You could also pack your lunches the night before or you could prep all your lunches for the week on Sunday. When you are rushed to pack your lunch in the morning, you are more likely to make poor food choices or potentially buy school lunch.
Easy and Healthy Meal Ideas:
Breakfast: Smoothies, Hard-boiled eggs, Fruits (bananas, berries, Grapefruit, or oranges), Greek Yogurt and Granola, or Oatmeal with fresh fruit.
Lunch: Salad, Lettuce Wraps, Turkey Taco Bowl, Hummus with Veggies (carrots, cucumber or tomatoes), or an Apple.
Dinner: Grilled Chicken Breast, Lemon Pepper Salmon, Shrimp Tacos, Zucchini Lasagna, or Turkey Chili. Sides: Grilled veggies (green beans, peas, carrots, butternut squash), Black or Pinto Beans, Potato, or Brown Rice or Quinoa.
Snacking is something most people feel they need to cut out, but it is okay to snack if you are making healthy choices. Typically, snacking is associated with foods high in sugar and fat. Here are some suggestions for snacking that won’t stick: Low-Sugar Granola Bars, Unsalted Nuts, Small Piece of Dark Chocolate, Brown Rice Cakes, or Natural Peanut Butter.
*Beware of faulty room treats. They will try to bring you down!
2. Sleep
Tumblr media
If your sleep schedule is anything like mine it is inconsistent, interrupted, and not long enough. Lack of sleep can cause a decrease in alertness, cognitive functioning, and impairs memory. All day long teachers are asked to stick to a strict schedule. Sleep should be no different. All you need to do if figure out how many hours of sleep your body needs to feel rested and be sure you schedule your bedtime accordingly!
Tips for Better Sleep:
Disconnect from work and personal duties:
Read a Book
Meditate
Stay Off Screens
Go to bed and wake up at the same time
Use up your energy throughout the day
Ensure a good sleeping environment
Sleep in a cool, dark, and quiet space
Drink herbal tea an hour and a half before bedtime

3. Exercise
Tumblr media
Exercise doesn’t mean you need to belong to a gym. You have many opportunities throughout the day to do exercise (whether you realize it or not). Many find the idea of making time to exercise daunting and tiring, but if you begin to incorporate a little exercise each day you will notice you feel less tired and much stronger!
A Little Goes a Long Way- Getting anywhere from 20-30 minutes of movement a day is better than none! Do not be discouraged by lack of time.
          1. Park further away from the entrance
          2. Walk laps on the playground while on recess duty
          3. Take the “long way” back to your classroom
          4. Break up the time- two or three ten minute walks
Exercise at Work
          1. Create a walking group with other teachers (before or after school)
          2. Exercise with Students- create an exercise club after school
          3. Take the steps instead of the elevator
          4. Use a standing work station instead of sitting at a desk
         5. Move with students during lessons- brain breaks or memory strategies for learning

          9. Dancing
         10. Paddle Boarding, Surfing, Water Skiing
So, why not start getting active today?!

Musée du Louvre, Paris
If you are an art lover, you don’t need any introduction to the Musée du Louvre, and if you are not, this is the museum where you find the famous Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo and more than 30,000 work of arts. We visited the Louvre after the Musée d'Orsay, which was not in the right order actually. The Louvre museum houses the art works from the ancient world to 1850 and the Orsay museum got stuff from 1850 onwards. So, yeah, make sure you follow the right order.
Tumblr media
The Louvre at night
We walked from our studio to the museum as it was a short walk. The closest metro stop is Palais Royal-Musée, and if you wanna see and enter through the pyramid (the picture above), exit the metro station and enter the museum via the pyramid.
Tumblr media
The entrance of the Louvre
We did not buy our advance tickets because as I wrote before, “Winter Rules.” We cleared the security check and bought our tickets for 17 euros/person from a friendly lady in no time. There is an audio guide available for additional 5 euros. We picked up the free map in English at the information desk. Buying tickets in advance in summer would be a good idea.
You can spend a week here at the Louvre and still might not get done. So, focus on its famous collections and give yourself a minimum of 2 hours. We started our tour with the Denon wing of the museum.
We started with the Gréce Préclassique section in Salle 1, where there were statues from 3000 B.C.
Tumblr media
Pre Classical Greek Statues
We found the statue of this unknown woman called"Lady of Auxerre" with her right hand near her chest. The Auxerre statuette was created in Crete in the seventh century, around 640–620 BC. It is a fine example of the Daedalic style. The woman face is U shaped and got dense curled hair. It is said she might be a Goddess while others think her hand gesture is her prayers to the God.

Some other statues in the Greece section...

We walked to Salle 16 and that’s where we found one of the star paintings of this museum: Venus de Milo or Aphrodite of Milos. It is one of the most famous ancient Greek sculptors. I am sure you must have guessed by now who she depicts. Yes, she is supposed to be the Aphrodite or the Venus in Roman, the Goddess of love and beauty. And the part Milo is due to the fact that she was discovered in 1820 on the Greek island of Melos. And no, she wasn’t made without arms. Her missing arms is a total mystery. Some say she was picking an apple with her arms, other say she was hugging a male statue. I say she was taking a selfie. Ha. Just kidding.
Tumblr media
Venus de Milo
Venus de Milo is full of swag. Look the way she is standing, resting her right foot while lifting her left leg, while drooping down her right shoulders.
Tumblr media
The back view. Sensuous.
We made our way to Salle 13 to 15 and those rooms are full of statues of both Gods and humans.
Tumblr media
Gallery of Greek statues
Tumblr media
Athena, the Goddess of wisdom
Making our way to room 6, we found the Fragment from the Ara Pacis (Altar of Peace). It is a classical Greek style made in the honor of Roman empire Augustus when he came back victorious from Spain.
Tumblr media
Parthenon Friezes
Near the Roman collections, you would find a stair and on that stair you would find a flying Goddess with no head (missing) and that is one of the most celebrated sculptures in the world. It is the Winged Victory of Samothrace created between 200-190 B.C and discovered on the island of Samothrace in Greece . It is said this statue was created to celebrate the victory of naval though there are others who disagree.
Tumblr media
Hey, look at her flat tummy. Winged Victory of Samothrace
It appears the Goddess is all ready to fly and if that was true, I would wish she takes me with her and drop me somewhere unknown.
We explored the Medieval World in Salle 3 where we saw a lot of paintings of Mary and Jesus implying this was the Age of Faith.
Tumblr media
Baby Jesus with her mother and angels.
Tumblr media
The painting by Leonardo da Vinci - The Virgin and Child with St. Anne
We found a long gallery displaying the paintings from the Italian Renaissance time and you must have guessed this is where we found the star painting...the Mona Lisa in Salle 6. We found the sign for this painting everywhere. There is no way you could miss this and you should not. Don’t tell me you are not going to Louvre for “my lady Lisa.”
Mona Lisa is well protected behind a pane of glass and it is understandable because everyone wanna see her. It is important to observe her first for few minutes before taking any picture. Try to figure out her mood from the way she is smiling and from her eyes.
Tumblr media
Hey Mona, why so mysterious?
Found this huge painting below opposite the painting of Mona Lisa. This depicts a big wedding party. It is called The Marriage at Cana by Paolo Veronese.
Tumblr media
Can I join this party by any chance?
It was time to see what French people could do for paintings and we entered Salle 76.
The first painting which intrigued us was the Coronation of Emperor Napoleon. This painting depicts the coronation of Napoleon as an empire of a New Rome, and the lady kneeling down in front of her is Josephine, Napoleon’s wife. Rather than getting the crown from the pope, Napoleon decides nobody is worth of coronating him but himself. Ha! What a man!
Tumblr media
Sacre de l’Empereur Napoléon, 1806-1807 by Jacques Louis David
Tumblr media
Liberty Leading the people by Eugene Delacroix
We went downstairs after the French painting room, and boom! A lot of nude male sculptures by the earth’s greatest sculptor, Michelangelo.
Tumblr media
Dying Slave by Michelangelo. He could easily be a model for Abercrombie & Fitch.
Tumblr media
Just wondering around, we came to the Egyptian antiquities and saw this Grand Sphinx. Sphinx is a beautiful creature with a lion’s body and a king’s head. It is one of the largest sphinxes outside Egypt and dates back as old as 2600 B.C.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hercule Combattant Achelous by Bosio
Tumblr media
Neptune by Antoine Coysevox
We did go to the Richelieu wing for the Eastern Antiquities but most of the famous arts like the Statue of Ebih-il by Superintendent of Mari was not there. We did visit the apartment of Napoleon III though and it was grand.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And we finally ended our tour. Louvre could be overwhelming there is so much to see. Well, we are glad we did not rush into anything and enjoyed the essential Louvre.

Fitness pyramid
What about Fitness pyramid ? Using the vegan food of Fitness pyramid ! Vegans are those who have chosen not to eat meat or animal by-products. If you are vegan or are planning to become a vegan, it is important to use the vegan food Fitness pyramid to make sure you are getting enough protein and other nutrients to stay healthy and maintain your energy level. When you look for the first time in the vegan food Fitness pyramid, it seems that you can be familiar with it. Breads and cereals form the base of the vegan Fitness pyramid, followed by fruits and vegetables of a higher level. However, if you look closely, you will discover that milk and milk products have been replaced by other foods rich in calcium, such as fortified soy milk. The meat has been replaced by legumes, including beans, nuts, peas, lentils and tofu. In some versions of the Fitness pyramid, legumes and foods fortified with calcium are grouped, in others, they are placed side by side in the same way that meat and dairy products appear in the classical food Fitness pyramid . In any case, they are important for the vegan diet because these foods contain most of the proteins that vegans consume. In the upper part of the food Fitness pyramid is the group of omega-3 fatty acids. Fatty acid may seem a frightening term for those accustomed to hearing that Americans need to reduce their fat intake, but these fats are an important part of the vegan diet. These fatty acids, which are found in nuts, seeds and other sources of the vegan diet, nourish the hair and nails. They also help maintain the immune system and also help a person maintain a healthy weight. In addition to foods in the vegan food Fitness pyramid, vegans are also recommended to use supplements to obtain vitamin B12 and vitamin D. Vitamin B12 is found mainly in meats. That is why it is necessary to supplement this vitamin if you stop eating. I a Vitamin B12 is important because vitamin deficiency can lead to problems such as anemia, fatigue, nerve damage and other conditions. Fitness pyramid Vitamin D is usually formed by the body during exposure to the sun. However, for vegans who do not get much direct sunlight or use sunscreen, it is also important to supplement this nutrient. Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium, essential for strong bones. Those who do not consume enough vitamin D may be more prone to rickets and other fragile bone diseases and Fitness pyramid. If you feel intimidated when you first look at the Fitness pyramid of vegan food, you are not alone. Many people wonder how they can eat all the recommended servings of food every day. However, there are foods in the Fitness pyramid that may belong to more than one group. For example, leafy greens fit well with vegetables, but many people do not know that they are also rich in calcium. Therefore, they can be grouped with "enriched soy milk and its substitutes", which are the calcium-based foods of the Fitness pyramid. There is one thing that I noticed in myself and in the people around me. As you say, it is unlikely that we will definitely change our eating habits if we do not have to. I know the food Fitness pyramid, but I was raised with "The Basic Four". To be honest, none of them fits perfectly with my own eating plans. If I had the choice and the ability, I would go back to the way I ate when I was a child. Cereals for breakfast, lunch depending on the day's activities and food that might contain meat for dinner and Fitness pyramid. I was starting to have a big garden as Fitness pyramid and I rarely buy products in the market, at least during the growing season. This diet was healthy and the work to get it was full of exercise. The Fitness pyramid This did not adapt very well to the Four Basics, since this way of seeing food tends to stick more to animal products than to vegetables. In fact, it is very suitable for the food pyramid, although it is considered the "old way of thinking". I think we should go back whenever possible. While Fitness pyramid working on weight loss, I began to study how and what people eat around me. Even people who know the food Fitness pyramid may not consider it in their food choices. This is not always caused by a lack of self-control and Fitness pyramid. In general, it is a combination of convenience and a job well done. Take a hamburger and eat it on your computer is a good example. I have a suggestion for all of us. The new year is approaching and it is time to start considering the resolutions. That would be good: take the time to find healthy food solutions instead of practical solutions and Fitness pyramid. I even have some tips to help make this resolution a resolution that will end throughout the year instead of being eliminated six weeks later. 1) Fitness pyramid  Read the labels: do not buy it just because you like it, find something you like. Although the sodium level is still too high, there are several brands of lean frozen dinners that you can eat at your desk. This takes into account the convenience and the need to continue working during lunch. 2) Fitness pyramid  Do it: if possible, cooking yourself will be the healthiest option. There are many websites that offer quick, easy and healthy recipes. Explore and find foods that look attractive. This option has an additional benefit: cooking can help reduce stress if you wish. 3) Fitness pyramid  Request assistance: it is not easy to do on your own. Talk to family, friends and even co-workers that are friendly. They can help you do it. Your family may want to do the same. Having someone come to this with you is a great comfort. 4) Fitness pyramid  Food Diary: I have been using a calorie counting site for years as a food diary, but you do not have to. Write what you eat, if it fits your new lifestyle and how much you like it or not. When you commit to paper (or the Internet), it is much harder to eat things that are not on your safe list of Fitness pyramid .
