Carry On Countdown, Day 1: Creature
Tumblr media
(Quotes from "Wayward Son" and "Any Way the Wind Blows" by @rainbowrowell)
My first ever @carryon-countdown! I immediately saw this image in my mind when I read the prompt for day 1.

JESUS CHRIST IT'S THE PEANUT GALLERY
Heroes have a rogues gallery
But Wade sees the fourth wall, so he has a PEANUT GALLERY
We don't talk to him so he went and found himself one who talks back
We the gallery are who the universe revolves around because without us Wade's world ends. We're the anchor beings! Logan came from the peanut gallery, HE'S US.
He's god, the author of his universe.
The Worst god, because he didn't help his world, wouldn't tell anyone he cared, and a lot of kids didn't get to grow up because of his revenge spree for an attack on those he claimed were his people. His, but not enough that he'd help them, not enough he'd talk to them, not enough to stop him from doing the same thing that was done to him.
God absolutely deserves to be thrown out. He's a failure who ruined his own world.
But just like all of us, he could choose to change. To recognize he did wrong. It's the least he could do. Because it's necessary in order to change.
God wouldn't and then couldn't save his own world, because it was better off without him after what he did.
It was a hell of his own making.
But he's us. That hell is our world.
We're Wade looking for help in all the wrong places. Waiting for Jesus to fix it for us when it's up to us.
Are you there, god? It's me, Margaret. Papa can you hear me?--
--Conversations with people who aren't there. Him to us. Like a prayer.
Prayers go unanswered. We can't talk to him. We set the narrative and we won't save him.
He replies: Bye bye bye, I'm gonna do it myself, and if any version of you actually loved me like you say then you would be here with me. You wouldn't have done it in the first place.
Wade only has one world, and even if he doesn't matter to it he's still going to save it. Who matters when they just watch? When they're not there? When the Omega herself created the problem? That's the stuff of legend, but not in a good way. Some things are just beyond forgiveness until the next life.
But this world--our world--doesn't regenerate.
Who still thinks this movie was just a silly little fan service sex joke?
I mean, it IS... gay sex saved the world. Logan's abstinence let his world down. It would have destroyed Wade's too.
....
We're the peanut gallery that the world revolves around. Abstinence would destroy ours, too. Only by giving a fuck can we save each other. It takes someone who's hung with big balls to build a snowman that feels like home.
To see god in each other. To gain forever by fucking god, together. To finally find a god who'll answer your prayers.
Hey Ryan, are you there? i just wanna TALK--

Went back into the ATLA tags after a long while and my god do I regret it.
Why do people think that the Gaang would happily pal around with Azula? Or, worse, be romantically involved with her? She tried to kill them!
I saw one person suggest that Jet and Azula would be besties and that is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Jet’s whole thing is that he hates the Fire Nation for everything they did to the Earth Kingdom. Azula is a Fire Nation princess who fully supported- and aided in- the imperialist invasion, colonising and attempted genocide of the Earth Kingdom. Why would Jet ever want to be friends with her?
Ugh. Cutesy things of Azula being besties and/or being romantically involved with the people she tried to kill, or whose people she terrorised, are disgusting. Fuck that.
(Don’t get me started on those who think she and Zuko should be close. That is especially awful.)

will always be obsessed with Josuke healing Okuyasu, yes this is the very first time that anyone probably showed any amount of kindness to Okuyasu, but its more then that!! the way that josuke says it, as if being kind to people and simply not wanting them to die is such an obvios fact, as if leaving no room for disscution!! as if even the quastion is unvalid because of course!! no one needs to die here! framing it in a way that Okuyasu cannot concive of a way to argue against it!! i just love how it works to change Okuyasu's prespective on everything. he is serounded by people who call him dumb for even asking quastions, but with Josuke, he not only takes the time to explain it to him (in his own angry but still gentle way), but doesn't call him dumb for asking!
then it gets better with Josuke revealing that he cannot heal his own wounds, yet he still stoped to make sure that Okuyasu is healed, and its sooo fucking powerful to him, earth shattering, the first little crack in "everyone hated me and i am terrible and the world is eviul so i gotta do what my brother says" world view that kept him living in this loop of terrible most of his life. i love it

Sigh. If your conception of the Sphere is that he's God or a god you've also massively missed one of the main takeaways from the novel.
Awestruck at the sight of the mysteries of the earth, thus unveiled before my unworthy eye, I said to my Companion, "Behold, I am become as a God. For the wise men in our country say that to see all things, or as they express it, OMNIVIDENCE, is the attribute of God alone."
There was something of scorn in the voice of my Teacher as he made answer: "Is it so indeed? Then the very pick-pockets and cut-throats of my country are to be worshipped by your wise men as being Gods: for there is not one of them that does not see as much as you see now. But trust me, your wise men are wrong."
I. Then is omnividence the attribute of others besides Gods?
SPHERE. I do not know. But, if a pick-pocket or a cut-throat of our country can see everything that is in your country, surely that is no reason why the pick-pocket or cut-throat should be accepted by you as a God. This omnividence, as you call it—it is not a common word in Spaceland—does it make you more just, more merciful, less selfish, more loving? Not in the least. Then how does it make you more divine?
I. "More merciful, more loving!" But these are the qualities of women! And we know that a Circle is a higher Being than a Straight Line, in so far as knowledge and wisdom are more to be esteemed than mere affection.
SPHERE. It is not for me to classify human faculties according to merit. Yet many of the best and wisest in Spaceland think more of the affections than of the understanding, more of your despised Straight Lines than of your belauded Circles. But enough of this. Look yonder. Do you know that building?
____
He is explicitly not a god and scoffs at the idea that Spacelanders are gods or should be treated as such just because they're one dimension higher than Flatlanders. They're just regular people, just lik the narrator is just a regular person who found himself in Lineland. The only difference is that it seems the Sphere made a conscious, informed decision to visit Flatland, while the narrator visited Lineland by accident and had no idea what was going on.
you could also just make up your own original Spacelander if you want a 3D character who acts like they're a God to Flatlanders.
edit:
here's the translation into 2024 English if it's hard to understand the original:
Awestruck by the idea that the secrets of the earth itself were being revealed to me, a simple Square, I said to my Companion, “I have become a God! The wise men in my country have always said that to see all things, which they call Omnividence, is a power only a God can have!”
There was something like scorn in my Teacher’s voice as he answered me with, “Oh, is that so? Then the most criminal thieves and murderers from my country should be worshiped by your ‘wise men’ as Gods, because each of them can see as much as you do right now. But trust me, your ‘wise men’ are wrong.”
Me: Then, is Omnividence a power also given to those who aren’t Gods?
Sphere: I don’t know, but if a thief or a murder from my country can see everything in your country, obviously that’s not a good enough reason to accept them as a God. This ‘Omnividence’, as you call it, does it make you more upstanding, more merciful, less selfish, more loving? It doesn’t. So how does it make you more divine?”
Me: More merciful and loving?! These are the traits of Women! And we know that a Circle is a better Being than a Straight Line, we know that knowledge and wisdom are more important than ‘love’.
Sphere: It’s not my job to to tell you one type of person is better than another. But many of the best and brightest in Spaceland think that kindness and love are more important than knowledge. They are more like the Straight Lines you despise than the Circles you worship. But enough of this, look over there. Do you recognize that building?
