02. BHARANI NAKSHATRA (13°20' ARIES - 26°40' ARIES)
Tumblr media
Bharani nakshatra is the second nakshatra in Vedic astrology. It is completely located in the sign of Aries, representing creation and beginnings. Bharani nakshatra is being ruled by the planet Venus, which represents fertility, creativity and giving birth to new idea. The combination of Venus and Mars here makes this nakshatra about letting go of the past and starting something new. If you have Sun, Moon, Ascendant, chart ruler or Atmakaraka in this nakshatra, then we can say you have prominent Bharani nakshatra in your chart.
Bharani means She who bears and the main symbol of this nakshatra is a female organ vulva, representing pains, menstruation, giving the childbirth etc. This nakshatra relates to suffering, depression and struggling. Giving birth to new ideas is associated with Bharani nakshatra because giving the childbirth involves a lot of pain. There is also a sense of creativity and sexual energy here. This nakshatra is the Star of Restraint and the restraint is basically the synonym of limitations, control, moderation, formality etc. People with prominent Bharani nakshatra in their natal chart usually struggle in life, work very hard and they don't do any short cuts. Otherwise, they'll be punished. And here we are at the point of punishment!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The deity of Bharani nakshatra is Yama, the Hindu god of death, punishment and law. He values justice and social morality, judges the departed people/souls and takes them into the underworld. The another symbol of this nakshatra is a boat, representing the transition or transportation between life and death or even between past and future. Bharani nakshatra is related to endings, letting go of something it doesn't serve us anymore and moving into calmer waters, easier life. At the 20° of Aries in this nakshatra, there's a debilitation point of Saturn. Bharani nakshatra is about death, endings, but also about starting a new life, while Saturn relates only to death, darkness and endings. People who have prominent Bharani nakshatra work successfully as psychologists, doctors and lawyers since Yama, the deity of this nakshatra, is a god of law.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The yoni/animal of Bharani nakshatra is a male elephant, representing sexual energy, longevity and ancestral memory. Bharani nakshatra is about the ancestors too. The planet Sun is exalted in Aries and the Sun represents lineage. A lot of kids with this nakshatra in their chart usually follow the steps of their own ancestors, especially of their own father's steps. For example, you have the Sun in Bharani nakshatra, your father is a soccer player and you also become the soccer player in near future. The power of this nakshatra is the Power to renew, associating with starting over a new life.
Tumblr media
Padas of Bharani nakshatra:
Pada 1 (13°20' - 16°40' Aries) - Leo
Pada 2 (16°40' - 20°00' Aries) - Virgo
Pada 3 (20°00' - 23°20' Aries) - Libra
Pada 4 (23°20' - 26°40' Aries) - Scorpio
For example, if you have the Moon in the 2nd pada of Bharani nakshatra in your birth chart (D1), you have the Moon in Virgo in your Navamsa (D9) chart. If you have Mars in the 3rd pada of Bharani nakshatra in your birth chart (D1), you have Mars in Libra in your Navamsa (D9) chart etc.

Mary Werbelow biography part 1 (part 2)
Early years and relationship with Jim Morrison
Mary Werbelow was born in July 1944 and she came from a very strict Catholic family.
Tumblr media
[Mary when she was 12 years old. Ebay]
In Summer 1962 she was just finishing her junior year at Clearwater High, when Mary and best friend Mary Wilkin spread their beach blanket near Pier 60, she was 17, and met Jim Morrison, who had been sent here by his father, then a Navy captain, after he blew off his high school graduation ceremony in Virginia. He had just finished the year at St. Petersburg Junior College and lived with his grandparents.
Mary was on the high school homecoming court. Her friends did cotillion dances at the Jack Tar Harrison Hotel, hit Brown Brothers dairy store for burgers and malts, and shopped Mertz's records for Ben E. King, Del Shannon and Elvis Presley.
Jim read his poetry at the avant-garde Beaux Arts coffeehouse in Pinellas Park and visited St. Pete's only live burlesque show, at the Sun Art Theater on Ninth Street.
Friends who thought they knew Mary couldn't fathom why she would want to hang out with Jim Morrison. What they didn't know was how out of place Mary felt in her social circle. Jim talked like no one she had met. "We connected on a level where speaking was almost unnecessary. We'd look at each other and know what we were thinking." He recited long poems from memory.
Tumblr media
[L-R: Andy - Jim's younger brother - Mary and Jim pictured in Summer 1962. The Doors by The Doors & Ben Fong Torres]
She liked her alone time, in her bedroom, dancing and drawing. Jim liked his alone time, in his bedroom, reading. They skipped dances and football games and hung out, at her house or at his grandparents' house.
When Jim drove, Mary kept a notebook at the ready. "Write this!" he'd say, dictating an observation. Or he'd pull over and scribble himself. "He was a genius," Mary says. "He was incredible."
Mary says he rarely drank in her presence. "It was out of respect for me. We were in love, and he didn't want to do things that I didn't like."
At fall, Jim transferred to Florida State. Most weekends, rain or shine, he hitchhiked back to Clearwater, 230 miles down U.S. 19. Most days in between, letters postmarked Tallahassee arrived at the Werbelow mailbox on Nursery Road.
Mary's father intercepted one, read the page about sex and never got to the part that made clear Jim was writing about a class. Furious at her father's snooping, she burned all Jim's letters, a move she came to regret, deeply.
At Jim's direction, she wrote once a week and included the number of a public telephone in Clearwater and a time he should call. On his end, Jim would put in a dime for the first two minutes. They would talk for hours. On her end, Mary would loiter by the phone at the appointed hour.

On March 30, 1963 the Jaycees called to recruit Mary for the Miss Clearwater competition, Mary's mother answered the phone."Oh, yeah," she said, as Mary recalled "she'll be happy to do it." although Mary herself would have declined.
The third and final night of competition, more than 1,000 people packed Clearwater Municipal Auditorium. Five finalists matched "beauty, personality and poise." Mary was looking good, not that Jim was thrilled. If she won, it was on to Miss Florida. Mary performed body twirls. She did the bossa nova. Time for her big question: "If your husband grew a beard, what would you do?" she answered: "I'd let him grow it. Whether he would kiss me or not would be another matter."
She got first runner-up.
As Mary's father banned Jim from the Werbelow house, she followed him to Tallahassee for a semester, although her parents objected. in 1964, When he started film school at UCLA and Mary announced she was following him to Los Angeles, her parents were devastated.
Mary says Jim asked her to wear "something floaty" when she arrived in Los Angeles. "He wanted me to look like an angel coming off the plane." Instead, she drove out a week early and surprised him.
Together again, in an exciting, intimidating city, they kept separate apartments. By November 1964 Mary got her first real job, in the office of a hospital X-ray department. Later, she donned a fringe skirt and boots as a go-go dancer at Gazzari's on the Sunset Strip although Jim didn't like the idea. Later that month, she went to Celebrate Thanksgiving with Jim and his parents.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Mary as a go-go dancer at Gazzari's on the Sunset Strip, 1964. Ebay]
Jim studied film. At the end of the year, a handful from among hundreds of student films were selected for public showing. Jim's was not among them. Shortly after, Mary says, he told her he was humiliated, considered his formal education over and needed to forget everything. He built a fire in his back yard and incinerated many of his precious Florida notebooks.
Mary says he started doubting her commitment. "You're going to leave me," he would tell her. "No, I'm not. How can you say that? I'm in love with you."
After one fight, Jim went out with another woman. He wasn't home the next morning. Mary went to the woman's house, but she said Jim wasn't there. Mary called: "Come out wherever you are!" Jim slinked forward, a hand towel around him. Mary bolted and, in a blur, hit the woman's fence as she sped off. "That was the beginning of the end."
He was drinking hard and taking psychedelic drugs. The darkness she had always seen seemed to be overtaking him, and she didn't want to watch him explore his self-destructive bent. And she felt he had swallowed her identity. Whatever he liked, she liked. "I had to go out and see what parts of that were me. I just knew I had to be away from him. I needed to be by myself, to find my own identity."
She enrolled in art school. The day Jim helped her move to a new apartment, she told him she needed a break. "He clammed up after that. I really hurt him. It hurts me to say that. I really hurt him."
They split up in the summer of 1965.
A few months later, Jim got together with a film school buddy, Ray Manzarek, who says he wanted to combine his keyboards with Jim's poetry. They started the band that became the Doors. "He didn't sit around and sing," Mary says, laughing. "Jim, no, he was a poet. He wrote poetry."
By phone from his home in Northern California, Manzarek says all the guys in film school were in love with Mary. She was gorgeous, and sweet on top of that. "She was Jim's first love. She held a deep place in his soul."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Ray, Mary and Jim in a film from 1964/early 1965 when Ray & Jim were students at UCLA, from thedoorsareopened tiktok]
The Doors' 11-minute ballad The End, Manzarek says, originally was "a short goodbye love song to Mary." Doors drummer John Densmore stated: "Jim wrote The Crystal Ship for Mary Werbelow, a girlfriend with whom he was breaking up. . . . The song was a goodbye love song."
Jim Morrison took up with other women, notably with longtime companion Pam, but Mary says she and Jim kept up with each other. She says she was his anchor to the times before things got crazy. "I'd see him when he really needed to talk to someone."
She thought they were too young. She worried they might grow apart. She needed more time to explore her own identity, so by late 1968 to early-mid 1969, Mary moved to India to study meditation, while there, she wrote several letters to her parents. She never saw Jim again.

TWD: Daryl Dixon “Paris sera toujours Paris” Review
Tumblr media
☕️Beware of Spoilers☕️
Last week we finally learned how Laurent was brought into the world and we now reach the third leg of the journey for Daryl Dixon and the location this time is Paris. Before Isabelle and Daryl reach the city they come across the town of Angers to one of Isabelle’s allies who has a radio, or so she leads Daryl to believe. Sylvie and Laurent stay behind armed and ready. I’m not sure if this was the brightest move on their part leaving them out in the open but Daryl and Isabelle venture into the theater to her contact and he’s one strange musician.
Tumblr media
Of course, we reach the never-ending saga of French radios that do not work, which is becoming way too predictable at this point. Daryl remains more than irritated that the radio has been used for nothing more than to feed this man’s musical obsession. Instead of trying to help, the man leads them to his stage of zombies in an orchestra. The bodyless head playing the strings was a nice touch but this was undoubtedly one of the strangest scenes in The Walking Dead and one giant waste of time as the crazed man was no help at all. And just as predicted the kids got in over their heads with walkers coming their way. Daryl must save the day and he has had enough of Isabelle’s leadership. It’s time to do things his way now. Though I’m not sure if that’s a good or bad thing given his track record so far in France.
Tumblr media
Soon the group reaches Paris and it’s a homecoming for Isabelle. From afar Laurent admires the Eiffel Tower for the first time, much like Daryl did upon his arrival. But Paris brings back a lot of memories Isabelle would rather not relive. It’s the very reason why she spent the last decade avoiding it.
Tumblr media
As they march on Isabelle shows Laurent some of her mother’s old stomping grounds. It’s not quite clear if Laurent knows Isabelle is his aunt. She has been lying about so much already so that wouldn’t be surprising. She then tells Daryl about the “pourvoir” movement. During the outbreak in desperate times, people think to order..”Yeah or God.” Daryl remarks back. That line makes it evident that Daryl doesn’t believe in either side of the fight in France. It makes it really hard to fight for something you don’t believe in.
The group stumbles upon the grave of American Rock star Jim Morrison after Laurent tells another story that nobody asked for about the fortitude of a weary woodsman. How death came for him and he had a change of heart. It is nice to know Laurent has so much “useful information” but I’m not sure that it adds any value to the story. Laurent assures Daryl that he will not face the same Morrison fate and die in France. Unclear if he thinks he’s a psychic or trying to ease Daryl’s fear but I think we all know Daryl Dixon is untouchable and not going to perish anytime soon.
Tumblr media
Another ally comes along just in time, Fallou. He has heard the story of Laurent but not seen it with his own eyes and he is mesmerized by the child as are all his people. They’d been waiting a long time to meet the miracle boy. It is a small community of 64 members and Sylvie quickly catches the eyes of a young man.
And on come the homing pigeons. They are used for messaging because they always find their way back home. Daryl thinks this idea is crazy and to get a message to America, it would just take too long. What came next was the most interesting part of the show. Carol is alluded to throughout this episode but this was the moment that screamed her name. While the trainer is holding one of the pigeons to be released he looks at the small creature and says “Maybe he has a girlfriend..we all have a person who waits for us somewhere.” And as Daryl listens he drops his head in both sadness and guilt. He’s dying to get to a radio to send word back and the further they keep going the more walls he is running into. I do however think the girlfriend line is very interesting. They didn’t have to throw that line in if they were trying to stick to the platonic soulmate trope.
Tumblr media
Another fun fact is when pigeons mate they mate for life. Which is how Norman Reedus always saw the character of Daryl. No matter where they go they can always find their way back home to their mate.
At this point, Daryl is over the games. These people are no use to him if they aren’t living up to their end of the deal. Daryl knows that Fallou can get them to The Nest the rest of the way and if there is no radio then she can’t help him. Fallou lets him know there are people in Paris that trade for all kinds of things but he will need currency. He’s ready to steal so he can make a trade to get back home but Isabelle said she will get what he needs. After all, it is the least she could do after the amount of times Daryl has saved them.
Now here lies two major problems in this spinoff:
1. The lying to Laurent, these are supposed to be people of God and Laurent's life is nothing but one big lie. I felt for the kid last week in “Aloutte” when he told children all the lies he’d been told about his past. They only knew him for 5 seconds and knew it was fabricated. They are putting a lot of hope and pressure on Laurent when he doesn’t even know he’s the face of humanity in France. Daryl thinks they should be honest with him. Laurent has strong empathic abilities to read people but I don’t think he’s a miracle child by any means. Everyone is given a gift.
2. Isabelle believes Daryl was sent to her by God to deliver Laurent to revive humanity. However, she seems pretty capable of handling bad people on her own. She’s been out there a long time growing the Union of Hope. The “killer nuns” know how to defend themselves so I don’t see why they needed to use Daryl as a man who can escort them. It seems very outdated. On the other hand, Isabelle does a horrendous job at fighting walkers even if she can kill humans like it’s nobody’s business. At this stage of the game she should be experienced in that area.
Codron is still after Daryl and he’s not going to rest until revenge is served. He comes to Genet with information and Genet hires him to find the American. Strange experiments are going on with walkers/burners and I get the vibe these are not being done to free the world of tyranny. I believe there is a dark purpose behind it all. If you look back on the burner walkers that is not something that just naturally happens.
Now we have reached the infamous Demimonde underground nightclub club which Quinn of all people owns. There are acrobats, a drag queen, and performers of all kinds. A lounge-type singer named Anna has a miraculous voice and seems to be somewhat of an item to Quinn.
Eventually, they get to Isabelle’s to gather some things to trade. There is a line from Isabelle that just clarifies how much Isabelle doesn’t know Daryl..” you seem like someone who’s always thinking” She is glad the two of them crossed paths she tells him but he refuses to share the same sentiment. He isn’t happy to be there but in the same turn, he doesn’t hate her for it. She’s not the reason he ended up here. He must play nice for now to garner a ticket back home.
Tumblr media
Isabelle is admiring some artwork on the wall. A piece by Monet called “The Water Lilies.” She tells Daryl she used to go visit the museum every weekend and admire it. It was like a port in the storm for her. “It kind of reminds me of home,” Daryl replied to her. Upon those words, Isabelle looks like him with a hint of remorse for even pointing it out to him. There’s a tinge of jealousy every time Daryl talks about going home. But there are two very interesting things regarding this scene that are written subtly in the script. “A port in the storm.” We know that Daryl and Carol are each other’s safe harbor. Carol has always anchored Daryl. “The Water Lilies” also reflects home making him think back to Carol and the Cherokee roses by the water. She is his home and just as Isabelle walks away to speak to Quinn Daryl takes one last look back at the painting missing the happiness he was so close to having.
Tumblr media
Quinn lets Daryl know it’s not impossible to get to America. He’s heard things and they travel to his office to talk about it in a deeper capacity. He offers champagne to which they decline. Quinn starts to lay into Isabelle that she should have told him about Lily and the baby. Isabelle is not sure why she would because he didn’t even want to help Lily back in the day. Then it is revealed that Quinn is the father of Laurent leaving Isabelle in an alarmingly shocked state. It was Quinn who saved Isabelle’s life before when she tried to take it and Quinn never lets her forget it. Daryl doesn’t like the way this is heading and tells her he doesn’t need a boat from them this badly. He can find another way. She is irritated with Daryl at this point because she’d come all this way to help him to help him keep his promise. “That’s all you care about isn’t it?” She asks him and Daryl doesn’t deny it. Well of course not his plans are not going to be changed over a group of strangers he just met. Isabelle’s constant annoyance with Daryl wanting to get back to his family and fulfill a promise is very peculiar. What else would she expect? “Oh since you said so I must be a messenger of god and I’ll stay with you forever and do everything you ask?” Come on now.
On a side note I don’t think it’s a huge deal Daryl was not prepared to have Isabelle go through pain to get a boat. Daryl has always been a good judge of character. There’s nothing shippy about him not wanting to be a jerk to get what he wants. Isabelle doesn’t exactly exude the same energy though.
Just as Daryl is about to leave for the second time this episode he tells Isabelle she should stop lying to Laurent. Quinn being his father will just be added to the mountain of lies. I love seeing the old Daryl shine in this episode especially when he tells her Laurent deserves to know who he is. Maybe that’s something she needs to believe, that he’s a gift from God. He can still be a miracle and not be the messiah he tells hers just as hell broke loose. Laurent overhears them and gets furious with them both while Codron has tracked him down regardless of the deal Genet and Quinn had to steer clear of each other's territory. Daryl goes on the run and it becomes another glorious beta vs. Daryl battle before he falls through the floor in a cliffhanger. My favorite part of this scene was Daryl dropping his knife that resembles Carol’s. The camera really panned in on it which purposeful symbolism.
Tumblr media
My takeaways:
Too much inconsistency with Daryl. He’s a hero one minute then seems incompetent on his own at other times. The amount of times he says “I’m better off on my own” and it’s proven otherwise is countless.
Isabelle is often the same, she comes across as a strong and capable woman but then acts as if she needs a man to get her from point A to point B. I don’t think she needs Daryl at all so it does beg the question as to why is she trying to hold onto him and control him? However, I do understand the script had to be written a certain way to prolong Daryl’s stay in France to give Carol time to arrive. It would be devastating if he left when Carol arrived.
There is no chemistry between Isabelle and Daryl. I know that’s what some of you are worried about. With any Daryl/Norman Reedus ship they are going to try and point fans in that direction for drama and attention but I just don’t see it. Especially not with Carol returning. This is not Daryl’s happy ending…a happy ending is not something that you have to be forced or guilted into. A happy ending is not an obligation because you get stuck in a place you don’t belong. I think deep down it feels good for Daryl to help people but he wants to carry on paying it forward. He’s not looking for a place to hang up his hat just yet. Though we all do wish he would hang up that scarf.
We have not seen the last of Quinn. He still has feelings for Isabelle. Isabelle has shut that part of herself off. But I do think it’s a little hypocritical of her to judge Quinn’s lifestyle when she used to be the same. She was the one who wanted to give Daryl the benefit of the doubt and compassion even if he didn’t believe in God. It is pretty clear she’s a master manipulator and does exactly what she needs to get her way. Whether that is towards Daryl to get him to babysit them all across France or to her ex, Quinn to get what’s needed to secure a boat. For me, it all looks like a game to Isabelle. I’m not sure how much she wants to get a boat for Daryl but as a Christian, it is her duty to be a woman of her word.
Tumblr media
Now call me crazy but I thought Nuns were supposed to be as honest as possible. Isabelle lies to Daryl from the start to manipulate him into helping them get to The Nest(and you will see how in a later episode.)She has not only lied to Laurent about who he is and where he came from but also created stories about a pseudo-father. Laurent doesn’t know she’s his aunt or that he is going to revive all of the humanity of France. All she tells him is that he’s special. Meanwhile, everyone they cross looks at Laurent like the angels are singing when he walks.
Fallou did say the radio hasn’t worked in a long time. That had to be information Isabelle was privy to. Much like how she led Daryl on at the Abbey about their radio only to tell him it doesn’t work. I don’t think Isabelle is a villain but she does too many selfish acts for me to like her. It doesn’t matter if she’s a nun now it’s like this selfish manipulative side was something engrained in her from before that’s never gone away, not even with the cloth.
The best takeaway from this episode is Daryl’s heart and his willingness to get word back home. He can only imagine what is going through Carol’s mind right now. Daryl always checks in with her and he does seem frantic about getting to a radio. Every hurdle he jumps over to get radio access comes to a screeching halt so now his best bet is to find a boat to travel back home. From there he can radio out to her.
“SAY HER NAME”
The Carol writing is all over the wall but it’s not definitive enough for my liking. Anybody who knows how to follow a narrative is going to know the safe harbor, home, the promise, and sadness that washes over him is because of Carol. And just as The Walking Dead usually does with the most popular ship of the show they don’t make it obvious enough. There is always that wiggle room. I do understand the poeticness of it but we need both Carol and Daryl to lay their hearts on the line once and for all. But I do however love all the symbolism. Famous french paintings that remind him of Carol, the pigeons, the girlfriend call back, and the knife.
I hope you enjoyed the Caryl hints in this episode. I know I did. There’s a scene coming up in Episode 4 that will completely warm your heart and I believe is another nod to Caryl and their future! Feel free to ask me questions to dive in deeper. Xoxo

The story of Oedipus Rex comes from a Greek myth.
Ultimately though, Jim Morrison said about the meaning of The End, "It could be almost anything you want it to be."
The Oedipus Complex was a controversial theory first proposed by Freud in 1899. Freud was an Austrian neurologist and the founder of psychoanalysis. He articulated and refined the concepts of the unconscious. Freud was known for his innovative treatment of human actions and dreams as invariably possessing implicit symbolic significance.
Freud is credited with developing psychoanalytic theory in the early 1890s, which is the psychological theory that suggests our past experiences and unconscious desires shape our present behavior and personality. He believed that unconscious thoughts or memories could cause clinical [psychosomatic] symptoms.
He also believed that the mind had three parts - the id, the ego, and the superego - which often conflicted with each other, and could lead to fixations in psychosexual development.
Freud, however, believed that all children went through an oedipus phase as a part of natural sexual development. [Oedipus complex is a stage of psychosexual development that occurs during childhood.] But he believed that if the fixation became persistent, the complex could affect people into adulthood.
The complex is named after Oedipus Rex, a character in Sophocles' play who unknowingly kills his father and marries his mother.
Freud believed that the Oedipus complex is repressed and unconscious, but still influences a child's development.
The complex is resolved when a child overcomes their feelings of incest and competition, and begins to view their same-sex parent as a role model.
The Oedipus complex is one of the most discussed and criticized issues in psychology. There are different opinions as to whether this complex even exists and to what degree.

Projected City - Monochromes in a Colourful Mind
Tumblr media
The waterfront light show,
a spectacle of wonder and awe,
On towering shipping containers,
that reach for the sky.
The city skyline aglow,
with a mesmerizing display,
Projected stories of our history,
unfold before our eyes.
Through veils of dry ice smoke,
the past comes alive,
A tapestry of memories,
that capture our attention.
Jim Morrison said it best,
we are riders on the storm,
And in this moment,
we are transported to another time.
The waterfront light show,
a celebration of our city's past,
A reminder of all that we've been,
and all that we can be.

paloma, you mentioned that you were an actress so I ask you, is it possible that Joe is using the method? coincidentally this is all happening while he is working on f4 Jonny storm is a womanizer. So Joe is turning into it. Maybe when the movie is finished, he'll be back to his old self. i don't know. sorry i'm still in denial.
No, bb.
Method is a technique that asks you to mine your own personal memories and traumas to achieve an emotional connection to the character you are playing. Some folks stay 'in' character on set or during filming. Val Kilmer famously did this when he was portraying Jim Morrison on the set of the Doors.
It can be very draining and honestly going back to the well over and over dulls the memory.
In terms of him dating DC, it's not due to any acting technique, I'm sorry.
Let's look at a nice photo of Val, btw. That man (is) was FINE.

New photos of Van Morrison in Cambridge, MA 1968 emerge!
Every time I think there's no more discoveries related to Astral Weeks (the album and the book I wrote about it), something comes along to surprise me. This one is a doozy. Below you'll find four photos taken in 1968 featuring Van Morrison, bassist Tom Kielbania, and Janet Planet together, working on music on Green Street in Cambridge, MA. I cannot believe these exist. These were taken by and courtesy of Jim Bourne, the context of which I'll explain in a moment.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jim Bourne's girlfriend lived on Massachusetts Ave on the 5th floor, and he snapped all of these photos from her place looking down. The trash-strewn patch of grass where they are located was an empty lot across the street from their Green St. apartment. The last photo shows Tom Kielbania sitting on the stoop in front of their place, which is the same exact house three members of the Van Morrison Conspiracy pointed out to me back in 2018. [CORRECTION: SEE BELOW] There is footage of Van Morrison in the 00's on Green St. pointing to a house farther down the street that was shown to me once under circumstances I cannot elaborate on, but I don't think he's correct. It's photographer Jim Bourne's memory that they lived there in that house seen in the photo, too. He also adds, "I parked my car in front of it one night, and the next morning the car was gone. I had it stolen twice (and attempted a third time) while I lived in Cambridge." If you've spent any time in this neighborhood today, you're probably shocked about all of the free floating garbage seen in these photos along with the tales of rampant car theft. These were different times. (Oh and btw, I zoomed in on all that newspaper trash just hoping one of em would be an issue of Avatar; results inconclusive)
Next, let's just take a moment to marvel that this is a photo of Janet Planet doing exactly what she described to me during our interviews for the book.
Tumblr media
I think we're looking at a photo of this very process, even including the legendary binder full of songs! Now, maybe you're saying, "How do you even know that's Janet in these photos? You can't even see her face!" Well good news, I asked her today and she confirmed it. "It's definitely us - I remember the blouse I'm wearing very well. It belonged to my mom...this is a fabulous find...Those were the Astral Weeks songs we were working on. I'm gobsmacked over here!"
She continued, "I've always wondered if there were all sorts of people who photographed us here and there and just have the photos somewhere. There are so few from that time." She called the existence of these photos "absolutely miraculous." I agree.
The big takeaways here for me are:
These photos both help confirm the address of where they lived AND muddy the waters. 602-604 is what all the band members believed was the house when we visited in person in 2018, but this photo shows Tom sitting on the steps of 608-610 next door. They look similar, for sure. Sigh. So, we know it's one of these two houses, but this doesn't fully resolve the mystery as I thought it did at first. See below for a current photo of both houses, side by side.
This clearly demonstrates the accuracy of Janet Planet's comments to me about her involvement in the song writing process of Astral Weeks and the other songs he composed while he was living in Boston.
Van just busted out that sax whenever he felt like it.
Jim Bourne also noted, "Mel [Lyman] was very much a presence at WGBH, where I worked." You can contact Jim Bourne, the photographer, here.

My taste in music in 20 albums
On Instagram I was challenged by @piahinckle to choose 20 albums that greatly influenced my taste in music. One album per day, for 20 consecutive days. No explanations (mostly), no reviews, just cover images on my Instagram @rialdrummer.
Proceeding from the first posting on December 11.
Max Roach and the M’Boom ensemble “Re: Percussion” the album is sometimes called. I heard this in the early ‘80s at a time I was getting interested in the history of jazz and particularly jazz drummers. Had the good fortune to see Max’s quartet (Cecil Bridgewater, Odean Pope, Tyrone Brown) at the old Yoshi’s, around the time of the “Scott Free” album.  This M’Boom record planted a seed for my later musical explorations in the ‘90s and started an appreciation for me of Max Roach as bandleader and conceptualist. I’d already heard some of his work with Charlie Parker. A decade later my band was covering “Morning / Midday” and “Jamaican Sun” by this group and I was email pals with Omar Clay’s partner.
The Mamas and the Papas “A Gathering Of Flowers”.  On the turntable constantly during my late high school years. Released between the ’68 breakup and the ’71 reunion. Interviews on the record with Cass and John hint at the glories and disappointments felt in the group.
Van Morrison “Tupelo Honey”. Great songs, ace band. The title track is really a classic (Cassandra Wilson’s cover is further evidence). Gary Mallaber (vibes) and Ronnie Montrose (guitar) stand out to me.
Family “Fearless”. United Artists was a label that took chances on musical artistry and signing Family was a commercial risk.  I found this album in 1973 in a cutout bin and it had only been out for 18 months.  The album is in turns gritty and pretty. All songwriting, playing and singing contributions are excellent, with John Wetton playing a key role on guitar, bass and vocals.
Rory Gallagher “Irish Tour ‘74”. Songs burned into memory from my days as a record store clerk and DJ. Most of my friends in the day were Rory fans going back to his band Taste and a few of us saw him at UC Santa Barbara around 1974.  If I had to pick one Rory record…  Watch him on YouTube.
“The Drums”. Prez Records in Santa Rosa was a destination store for me in the ‘80s and I found this used 3-album set for cheap there.  Introduced me to Art Blakey (“Ala Mode” remains a favorite song of mine), Connie Kay playing with Milt Jackson, Dannie Richmond, Paul Motian and many more great tracks.
Iain Matthews “Valley Hi”. Michael Nesmith cut a lot of great sides within and after The Monkees. To my ears almost nothing by him surpasses the achievement of helming this album.  I’ve followed Matthews’s career going back to his brief time in Fairport Convention up to the last decade and I know he’s not crazy about this record but to me it’s absolutely a gem.  Songs by Randy Newman, Jackson Browne, Steve Young (“Seven Bridges Road” before the Eagles recorded it) among others.
Gil Scott-Heron “Pieces Of A Man”. It had to be a long shot that an AM rock station would put “Lady Day and John Coltrane” on their playlist but that’s what KRLA in Pasadena did. And so I heard it and began an appreciation of Gil Scott-Heron that I continue to hold.
Marc Benno “Minnows”. This was another AM radio long shot in 1971 and KRLA won the day again for “Speak Your Mind”. A ballad that ebbs and flows in intensity.  Jim Keltner’s drumming first caught my ear on this song. This was around the time that Benno was playing rhythm guitar with The Doors on the L.A. Woman sessions, and after his collaborations with Leon Russell on the Asylum Choir albums. Many friends of mine also appreciate this album.
Weather Report “Sweetnighter”. Previously unaware of Wayne Shorter and Joe Zawinul, I saw Weather Report in July of 1973 and “Boogie Woogie Waltz” convinced me that I needed to dig more deeply into this music.
Fairport Convention “What We Did On Our Holidays”. Along with the records that Nick Drake would make a few months later, sums up for me some great years of British “folk rock”.
10cc “Sheet Music”. Between their first two albums this one comes out on top for me. It’s close. I was a fan from the release of “Rubber Bullets”.
Harry Belafonte “Calypso”. “Jamaica Farewell” was likely the first set of song lyrics I memorized. Mum had his playing often in our apartment in the late ‘50s.
Brinsley Schwarz “Nervous On The Road”.  I like this best of the band’s records (it may be because adding Ian Gomm to the band was so complimentary to the talents of Nick Lowe, Brinsley, Bob Andrews and Billy Rankin). For this pick I could have swapped out Dave Edmunds’s “Get It” or the Rockpile album “Seconds of Pleasure” but since the list is supposed to describe how my tastes were influenced it makes sense to refer to early period Brinsley.  Made me a Nick Lowe fan for life.
The Monkees “Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd.”.  My introduction to the group. I hadn’t seen the tv show at that time (November and December 1967) at least as far as I recall. Coming at them strictly through these tracks I was impressed by songwriting, production, vocals, guitars and humor.  Not bubblegum, at all.
“Pat Metheny Group” By September 1978 I was being introduced to ECM albums by a friend. I’d enjoyed previous ones but that month when I heard the first notes of “San Lorenzo” something resonated with me that hasn’t stopped.
Graham Parker and the Rumour “Stick To Me”.  This is a rough-and-ready collection produced by Nick Lowe. Drumming by Steve Goulding, guitar leads by Martin Belmont are highlights. The title song, “Soul On Ice”, “Clear Head” are standouts in a great set making this my favorite GP album for all time.
The Gary Burton Quartet with Eberhard Weber “Passengers”.  I think this was probably the beginning of my awareness of Gary Burton’s albums. A great introduction. As a vibes player myself there are major lessons and enjoyment for me throughout his catalog.
Love “Forever Changes”. Surrounded by Love fans in my 20s but not giving the group much time of day then, I locked into the band’s and Arthur Lee’s artistry in my 40s. Like so many people I now appreciate every song on this classic album. Was fortunate to catch the 2003 edition of the band at The Fillmore.
Gene Clark “No Other”. After leaving The Byrds, Clark wrote and recorded many excellent songs showcasing his poetic and melodic gifts. This album is the top of the mountain for me, and public appreciation for the songs and the production have grown greatly in the 50 years since its release. YouTube has video of a tribute tour for the album from a decade ago.
RUNNERS-UP
Elvis Costello and the Attractions “Imperial Bedroom” and “This Year’s Model”
XTC “English Settlement”
Beach Boys “Summer Days (and Summer Nights!)” and “Sunflower”
(Many) Iain Matthews records across the decades, along with titles by his Fairport mates Sandy Denny, Dave Mattacks, Richard Thompson, Ashley Hutchings, Judy Dyble. A nod too to drummer Martin Lamble who had a playing style so well suited to their early records.
Buffalo Springfield “Retrospective”
Carpenters “Ticket to Ride”
Rolling Stones “December’s Children”
The Move “Shazam”
Joni Mitchell “For the Roses”
Bruce Springsteen “The Wild The Innocent and the E Street Shuffle”
Beatles single “Rain” b/w “Paperback Writer”
Man (The Man Band from Wales) "Back Into the Future"

Curse of Twins
Papa Nihil x Oc (you)
Chapter I: Sisters
Summary: Death is close to knocking on Sister Imperator's door and she knows it, it is time to tell the truth.
Word count: 1711
Note: bad English, this is all from fans to fans. creative freedoms.
"Are you sure about this, Sister Imperator?" A sister of sin asked hurriedly as she walked next to Sister Imperator who, given her age, was walking faster than normal.
"Of course, sister. I wish to end this as soon as possible, it is only a formality for the Clergy." It wasn't like that, the Clergy didn't care that much about his life.
"But it's your private life Sister Imperator!" The young sister of sin begged her not to expose herself to everyone like that, perhaps by knowing her as the human person that she was, everyone would lose the respect or rather the fear that she instilled in everyone under her charge.
Sister Imperator's heels clicked in the cold and lonely hallway of the fourth floor, three floors below, a biographer was waiting that she had hired for this very important work. Every moment mattered because as time passed the memories in her mind began to become cloudy and she could not allow that in any way.
The Clergy had warned that they could not tell anything about them. Fuck them, she wouldn't talk about them, she'd talk about her, both of them. Of his life and he would let only a few people read it, because he was incapable of saying such things in the face of the people he had deceived all his life.
The young nun's mouth opened once more, trying to convince her of something she herself was ready to do, a last tribute.
"Sister!" I called his attention rudely "The decision has been made, I would appreciate it if he would stop trying to change it and get out of here. It's an order." He stopped walking just to look at her face and give her those looks that chill anyone's blood.
"As you wish, Sister Imperator" the young woman said in a whisper and she left quickly until she disappeared around the corner of a hallway.
Sister Imperator sighed and continued on her way. 50 years ago she did not set foot in that place, everything seemed to have been preserved in time, she could breathe and feel back in her 20s, hear the laughter and footsteps of the children who were now grown men in the service of the Clergy. A nostalgic tear escaped her cheek as she continued walking with her eyes closed, imagining that she was returning to the good times, before everything was so complicated and twisted.
Her legs carried her to an old wooden door carved with the 9 rings of hell, she touched the tattered old wood, remembering times where was bright and firm. She grabbed the doorknob and turned it, the old and stored air filled her lungs accompanied by immense clouds of dust that covered her clothes and hair. As if that were nothing he took a step inside.
It was portal in time, to the beautiful 60s. The windows decorated with translucent curtains with psychedelic flowers that reflected their designs on the floor, the record player on the carpet in the center, the vinyl records of Nancy Sinatra, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin, the favorites of the moment, the beaded curtain on the bathroom door, the music festival posters hanging on the walls, the rugs at the foot of the beds with a pentragram, the nightstands full of books and cigarette butts, the overflowing closet of clothes, dressers with makeup spread and red lipstick kisses on the mirror, perfectly made beds, one of them with a goat doll that I used to remember calling Baphy…Those were the good '60s.
Time had taken its toll on the place as well as itself, nothing was like before and only shadows remained of what that room was, its memories were covered with dust until they were devoured by moths.
She approached the dresser, the white wood was unpainted and at the slightest touch it would fall to dust, on it there was a framed photograph, its glass was opaque and with several thick layers of dust. Sister Imperator could see herself, a tall, slender blonde girl in a black dress and platform heels, a malicious and knowing smile between her and her reflection in her mirror. However, her reflection had a sweet touch in her gaze.
She took the painting and clutched it to her chest, wishing she had more than a photo to hug, but it's all that was left.
They had such happy smiles, she could even remember the night of that photo, it was her first "mission" for the Clergy, they looked so happy and excited. If she had known the ending, she would have burned him and the place without thinking.
Tumblr media
The young woman in the chair was totally nervous, perhaps it was because of the huge painting of Lucifer behind the chair behind the desk, the atmosphere of the place or the person who had hired her.
Two weeks ago he had received a strange email from a woman who called herself Sister Imperator offering a fabulous amount of money for her services. At first she did not take it seriously, she was a recent graduate and the well-paying jobs that come from nothing were always obvious scams. After a few days that same woman had called her, she had been tempted to say no but something in her tone or perhaps in the way she said it made her accept.
A van that had all the earmarks of kidnapping children on Halloween had picked her up 2 hours ago, the driver had been very friendly, a boy with a kind smile. When he arrived he saw the facade of a huge religious institution.
She was left alone at the entrance, where a very kind and cheerful girl took her to the office where she was now.
I expected to see large crosses, suffering saints, Bible paintings and nuns with an extra habit covered, but that was clearly not the case. He found himself in a satanic ministry, although he knew that they were generally down-to-earth people, the more paranoid part of she feared that would end up as a human sacrifice in some kind of ritual.
She pressed her briefcase against her legs as she turned in the chair, she was beyond nervous and she could feel the sweat on her forehead. She had brought what was necessary, a recorder with a USB connector and your laptop, in addition to the classic notebook and several pens.
15 minutes had passed and the woman who had hired her still had not appeared at the door, nor had she been allowed to go to the bathroom as she had requested, not because she had any need, she wanted to wash her face and freshen up first but it was a denied request. She couldn't even go out to take a look at the hallway because she could see the shadow of feet behind the door and long blonde hair behind the opaque glass window of the door, so that wasn't an option either.
The office was decorated as you would expect, with the slight difference of satanic figurines and Luciferian painting. The shelves were full of books, there was a kind of small living room, with comfortable navy blue velvet sofas, a small table with some stains from coffee cups and a fireplace with some somewhat strange photos, perhaps the least strange was the of a young blonde kissing the cheek of a boy with face paint, they looked deeply in love, their white clothes were stained with what looked like blood. The window overlooked the center of the abbey, a fountain, some people passed by, nuns with revealing habits and even the boy with the pretty smile passed by that place.
The young biographer sighed, looking at her watch, while her nervous leg tapped the ground. The blonde hair behind the door moved and she could hear the murmur of voices outside. It opened and a small, gray-haired woman walked through the door, with a lively, mischievous smile. The young woman quickly stood up and extended her hand towards the woman.
"There's no need." she told him as she sat in her chair, behind the huge painting of Lucifer.
The young woman kept her hand and sat down again looking at the woman, the nervous play of her hands gave her away in front of Sister Imperator, who smiled, her nervous movements reminded him of her dear Cardinal Copy .
"I'm Sister Imperator," she said, moving her chair closer to the table. "Do you know why she's here, young lady?"
"He hired me to do her biography, lady" the girl responded quickly.
"That's right, I need you to put everything I'm going to tell you on paper. Can you do that?" Questioned, the young woman got nervous and just nodded her head several times. "But let's not forget the formalities" the woman took out a sheet of paper from one of her drawers and slid it to the young woman "It's a contract, read it."
The girl took the sheet of paper in her hands, feeling like she was dealing with the devil himself, she read it a couple of times, before putting it back on the desk.
"Have you read it yet?" Sister Imperator's tone was sweet, but in the young girl's heart it was like finding a razor in an apple.
"Yes"
"Everything that happens in this room is something that only you and I should know. I only want 6 copies, I will take care of the printing myself, you only have to give me the final copy. Will you sign?" Sister Imperator extended a red pen with cute gold carvings, it must be valuable.
The young woman reached out with her trembling hand and took the cold pen in her hands, she removed the cap and with Sister Imperator's gaze on her, she slid the pen across the paper, the red ink formed her signature and she felt an enormous shiver run through her ribcage along with a delicious feeling of peace.
The deal was done here and in hell.
Hello! I mean I hope you like this little fic, there's something about the young Papa Nihil that just makes him irresistible in my eyes.

3. favourite book?
I have a couple, but I'll keep this answer to this set, Contrarywise and Trickster's Touch by Zohra Greenhalgh. They're fun little fantasy fiction books, very quick reads, but they are jam-packed with so many spiritual ideas that will embed themselves into your bones and blood that you'll re-read them and still discover new things. One of the main characters is Rimble, the Trickster.
14. if you got a tattoo, what would it be and where would you get it?
I currently have four tattoos, all on my wrists-forearms. The first on my left inner forearm is a rune sigil I designed from the Kenaz, Ansuz, and Thurisaz runes. Roughly, they represent inspiration/creativity, wisdom and counsel, and breaking down barriers like bigotry. They also represent Loki, Odin, and Thor, in that order by name. The other three - left inner wrist, a wolf paw with the Bisexual colors in the claws, and this is for Fenris/Fenrir. Right inner wrist - Jormungandr with the scales tipped in the genderfluid colors. Right inner forearm - a lizard with a crown, the Lizard King, for Jim Morrison. I do want more tattoos, and one will involve a teapot and teacups, another an octopus. Or I'll go the route of the octopus holding the teapot in one tentacle while pouring seven cups of tea. I have other Nordic/pseudo-Nordic symbols I want, I'd like a Sleipnir for sure, and I want at least one Shakespeare quote. I just haven't decided which one yet. Recently, I've also decided that I need a quote from a Mel Brooks movie, probably one from History of the World Pt. 1 because that was the first of his movies I saw. When I was 9. I also want this prayer as a tattoo:

36. what’s something you love about the world?
Its geological capacity to both endure and produce endless beauty in all its forms. That it can provide all the nourishment and shelter its inhabitants need, even if we're (collectively as a species) too stupid and stubborn to nourish it and care for it back. That it will evolve and grow and adapt no matter what selfish things humanity collectively continues to do, and that one day, it will go on while we are merely a memory in the Earth's consciousness.

1999 - Heidi Jo Hines (left) with mum Jo Jo Laine (right) holding Mark Snyder.
He remembers Jo Jo very fondly:
TBT---This is a photo from 1999 of Jo Jo Laine (right), a Danvers girl, who lived an amazing life. She died in 2006 in London. She was an American singer, model and actress who married Moody Blues founder Denny Laine while he was a member of Paul McCartney's group Wings. She was a self-confessed groupie who had affairs with Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix (when she was 16), and many other artists. She had a lengthy relationship with Rod Stewart just before meeting Laine. Stewart is said to have written the hit song "You Wear It Well" for her. She had two children with Laine, including her beautiful daughter Heidi-Jo Hines, who is also with me in this photo. They were great guests! Heidi Jo Hines had Rod Stewart as her babysitter and Sir Paul McCartney’s girls were her best friends! Rod Stewart sang her songs in the bath and Denny read her bedtime stories. Her playmates were Mary and Stella McCartney, daughters of Denny’s Wings band mate Sir Paul. She is married with two children, and is a performer herself at age 42. Nice memories

Good morning! I hope you slept well and feel rested? Currently sitting at my desk, in my study, attired only in my blue towelling robe, enjoying my first cuppa of the day. Welcome to Throwback Thursday!
Many thanks to everyone that contributed to WEDNESDAY WORDS. Thanks to those that read and leave a ‘like’ or ‘love’. As you can see, some contributions really resonate with people. Yesterday’s winner was top author Heather Blomquist with, "People are afraid of themselves, of their own reality; their feelings most of all. People talk about how great love is, but that’s bullshit. Love hurts. Feelings are disturbing. People are taught that pain is evil and dangerous. How can they deal with love if they’re afraid to feel? Pain is meant to wake us up. People try to hide their pain. But they’re wrong. Pain is something to carry, like a radio. You feel your strength in the experience of pain. It’s all in how you carry it. That’s what matters. Pain is a feeling. Your feelings are a part of you. Your own reality. If you feel ashamed of them, and hide them, you’re letting society destroy your reality. You should stand up for your right to feel your pain.” The amazing words of Jim Morrison of The Doors.
On this page, ‘Throwback Thursday’ is all about memories. So, what do you remember? If I was to say the word WALK what immediately comes to mind?
On May 12th, 2012, I did The Moonwalk. My beautiful friend Dolly wanted to do it and asked if I would do it with her. For those that don’t know, it’s a sponsored walk around London that begins around 10.00 p.m. and finishes at 6.00 a.m. As it’s in aid of breast cancer charities, all participants have to wear their bra on the outside, and everyone is encouraged to decorate their bra. Mine was covered in fluorescent pink feathers. 26.2 miles overnight? It nearly bloody killed me! I like my sleep, so doing NOTHING through the night is taxing enough, let alone walking 26.2 miles! Anyway, I raised a lot of money for charity and I felt very good about myself. In order to train for that walk, I began to walk to work. At the time, I was working at MTV in Camden Town. 6.1 miles, stopping at Costa Coffee in West Hampstead to have a Soya Cappuccino and use the toilet. And, after doing The Moonwalk, I loved the walk so much, I carried on doing it! It was convenient. Having a full-time job 6.1 miles away was convenient. Now, work is part-time and all over London, so it’s not as simple. My body is not happy. I wouldn’t say that walking is good exercise. Oh, no, it’s much more important than that! There are four common activities that utilise all parts of the body. Dancing, swimming and walking are three of them and you can guess the other! (Second word is ‘pumpy’!) If you don’t take regular exercise and work that body, your frame will literally shrink into itself, and you’ll become bent over and crooked! What do most people do most of the day (and night?) Sit in front of a screen. Not good. So, if you say the word ‘walk’ to me, it literally feels as vital as air and water.
So, on this Throwback Thursday, what kind of memories, thoughts or emotions does the word WALK conjure up for you?
Have a throbbing and thrusting Thursday (with hopefully a few thrills through your thoroughfare?) I love you all.
