PSA for Fandom Folk

Sorry to get super serious out of nowhere, but I found out today that my abusive ex (Pixeled on A/O/3, aka Pix or PixeledPalace, midgardsomrnights on insta, pixrexpen on tiktok, etc.) is back to engaging in fandom communities, participating in fandom events, and generally just tooling about in circles increasingly close to my own.

This is a friendly reminder that he is, in fact, abusive, with a link to the post where I finally went public to prove it, and a warning that he uses fandom as a gateway to find new victims. When I went public, a frankly excessive number of people I knew or knew of in my fandom came out of the woodwork to relate their own experiences with him, some more harrowing than others, some even as severe as my own.

I know people can change, but his pattern of behavior stretches back years, without so much as an attempt to take responsibility for any of it; in response to my admission of victimization, he asserted that I had abused and manipulated him (without even a modicum of evidence, much less proof), that I forced him into a romantic relationship when he never wanted one with me (even though he was with someone else at the time, openly pursued me, and I told him outright that I would not be party to cheating), and that I'd taken every single screenshot shared (and there are more than the ones in that post) out of context.

I still don't know what context would make it okay to tell your fiancee, "You're actually lucky, I don't do or say things I've said and done to people in the past with you. I could be a lot nastier." A couple people accepted his word, blocked me and told everyone I'm abusive anyway.

If this person is in your community, your friends are in danger. Please take care of one another, please be safe.

The manga industry, especially JUMP, needs to hurry up and do away with weekly scheduling for mangaka. There needs to better regulations put into place for their health and safety because this is pitiful. Two weeks - monthly updates should’ve already been the standard for the manga industry at this point. These money grabbers will only continue to put the lives of these artists at stake for the sake of capitalism unless some serious changes are implemented.

I just saw someone say, "I'm a convert, so I'm technically Jewish," and it made me want to scream and cry.

Converts - adoptees (the term my rabbi uses and I prefer) - you are exactly, precisely, as Jewish as any other Jew. It is halachically forbidden to distinguish between converts and any other Jews. Your soul is a Jewish soul. Period. You're not even supposed to ask if someone's a convert or not. It doesn't matter. You're Jewish.

And if you won't stop minimizing your Jewishness for your own sake, do it for every other convert who deserves not to have their Jewishness minimized or qualified.

watching a star trek TOS episode where a starship captain has a psychosis that makes him aggressive and manipulative. he kidnaps kirk and spock, tortures his doctor, kills another mental patient, and threatens the safety of the Enterprise crew.

despite this, kirk continues to show him dignity and respect. instead of villainizing him, kirk reminds him his mental illness is not his fault and the awful things it has caused him to do are not who he truly is.

when spock finally shoots the man you think "well that's the end of that guy." but then we learn spock intentionally only stunned him, and the man is last seen getting mental health treatment. he is unaware of what has passed or who he is, and is confused to be referred to as "Captain" but he returns the respect he receives

Mental illness was treated better in a '60s scifi show than it is now.

one thing abt thalia and percy's dynamic that is often overlooked is that percy was punished for the same things thalia was rewarded for. there's a prophecy abt one of the big three kids? percy is treated like a liar and thief and ppl refuse to talk to him. thalia? everyone respects her (including gods!) and assumes she'll do a great job saving the world. thalia is accepted immediately at camp and threatens the place percy spent two years proving he deserves. percy wants to go on a quest to save his friend? he's an attention seeker and glory stealer. thalia? well, she's the obvious choice. thalia comes up w a plan to win capture the flag that's basically "leave everything to me" and percy comes up with a plan that's basically "if you see a good opportunity, go for it," but percy is viewed as the control freak.

what i'm saying is percy had every reason to resent thalia and he didn't. he chose not to. and thalia had every reason to look down on percy and didn't.

even when they were fighting, i never saw it as a power struggle. they were being pit against each other, and instead of doing what everyone expected them to (kronos was fully expecting thalia to kill percy), they chose to love and respect each other. because they're not their parents. they're just two kids who started cracking under the pressure but refused to break.

I'm not even exaggerating when I say these two have been going against industry standards since the very beggining, when they took the piss out of fanservice so hard that they became known for capsizing their own ship, and now they'll further deviate from the BL fixed pair norm and reverse roles as a way to tackle certain queer topics. Just last year @poetry-protest-pornography and I were talking about YinWar having both the willingness and the range to pull off something like this since they weren't held back by any company, and of course these men will deliver given that they have the luxury of doing whatever the hell they want as independent artists and producers of their own series. Dreams do come true!
