"Not all of us are talented at, well, whatever you were just mocking me for. I wasn't really listening"
James squinted, the rage building up inside him because of his bored tone and waving hand, his eyes looking as much as uninterested as his face.
"Excuse me?" he spitted incensed.
“You heard me” Lance said crossing his arms and smiling at him smugly, as if his reaction was the one he wanted from him, “Oh, are you angry?”
He stepped back, his fist tightening by his sides in an attempt to not punch that stupid smile out of his face.
He felt the eyes of all his MFE teammates over him, and every single little smile from the Voltron team at him. He felt ridiculous. Since when McClain went from a presumptuous bastard to a presumptuous asshole?
“You were the one who messed up the coordination” he attacked not even worrying in show some of his rage in his voice, “You are the reason we had to stop the training!”
Lance’s blue eyes rolled back, exasperated, and he looked down for a bit.
“I didn’t messed up anything, Griffin” he explained, “You’re just trying to make me look incompetent in your strategic formations”
James frowned. What?
“You’ve been an asshole since we started working together, and you only focus your comments and nagging to me” he pointed out, tilting his head while staring at him, “You don’t even know that it was Pidge who flew in the opposite direction just to see if you would scold her or scold me.”
James glanced at Holt, looking her smile at him openly.
“What?” he voiced out without thinking, and Lance’s smile went away, leaving an annoyed expression.
“What do you have against me, Griffin?”
He didn’t know. Or that’s what he thought. Because he briefly glanced over to Keith, standing apart from the discussion. He wans’t smiling, nor looking angry. He was staring at them surprised, just a brush of pink lighting up his cheeks.
Shit.
He didn’t answer to that, not even managing to wonder what was wrong.
But everything clicked into place that evening, when he accidentally walked into Keith and Lance talking in the emptiness of the lockers, and actually dared to look just when they shared a kiss, Lance’s blue eyes finding him in the door and smiling at him smugly, hiding his face in Keith’s dark hair while he hugged his thinner body.
“I didn’t thought you were right...” he heard Keith mutter, a shy tone in his voice that he never thought he would hear, “Griffin... James is...”
“He’s jealous, baby” Lance interrupted hugging his waist without looking away from James in the doorway, “He’s jealous of me because I have you.”
Keith’s laugh sounded breathy, and he snuggled closer to Lance, still smiling at James.
“He can’t have you, and that angers him”.
He, indeed, was angry.
But also heartbroken.

another fiery night, you feed my hunger for your love
Veronica, James thinks as he watches Lance destroy a hospital room, did nothing to prepare them for her brother.
In which the war ends, and the MFE pilots try to visit the paladins in the medical wing. Emphasis on try.
implied plance, jeith/jaith, sheith
Ending the Galran invasion doesn’t miraculously grant the MFE pilots free time. The world needs rebuilding, and, unlike Voltron, James and his team aren’t going to fly off into the sunset or fight in the cosmos. It’s up to them to transition from defending to protecting without the Voltron forces’ support. Drills continue, outreach expands, sleep schedules don’t shift to peacetime hours.
But it doesn’t take any cajoling on James’ part for the team to unanimously agree to use their unscheduled time to visit the paladins in the hospital wing. Parents and civilian allies have long been sent home. The MFE’s sterling reputation for never truly disobeying orders or requesting special privileges can afford the dent of ignoring visiting hours.
Foolishly, they begin by visiting Allura. James respects her, both as a dignitary and a fighter, but he underestimated her willingness to answer all of Leifsdottir’s questions of Altea, especially once Coran and Romelle return from finding dinner, flagrantly ignoring the rules of when they can be in the medical wing. Rizavi only encourages them all, hitting James’ chair the first time he gently reminds Leifsdottir they can visit again. It takes multiple frustrated nurses and Kinkade lifting Leifsdottir off the ground for them to escape, silencing Allura’s attempts to explain the Altean alphabet to Leifsdottir. Coran’s voice echoes through the closed door.
Leifsdottir’s repeating the symbols’ sounds to herself as they walk down the hall. Kinkade nods along. One day, an Altean or an unknown alien are going to accidentally reveal secrets to Kinkade, assuming his silence means ignorance. This nursery tune will come to haunt them all if Kinkade finds it worth mentioning.
“It’ll be a super quick visit, we promise! They deserve it, don’t they? Cooped up like this can’t be fun,” Rizavi chirps to a nurse on duty as they near Lance’s door. Sometimes you just need to sicc her on someone to save the rest of the team. James’ acknowledgement of this is why he’s team leader.
Besides, Veronica has tracked in over a dozen family members to see Lance, all loud exuberance and youthful love. The staff know half of the MFE don’t speak above a normal sound level most of the time. It’s fine.
Rivazi knocks and nudges Lance’s door open once he calls out. She immediately falls back against the door, shoe having slid against two bouncy balls. Numerous others litter the room’s floor. James isn’t going to be the one to ask.
Lance is cheerful, in good spirits. He dutifully answers all of Leifsdottir’s questions, ones gotten from Veronica, as if she hadn’t had breakfast in his room or darted over to see him in-between afternoon meetings.
He requests information on how Earth is recovering, gets excited watching the newest vids on the datapad James brought with their appropriate security clearance. It’s a good meeting, if brief.
“Hey, guys, before you go, can you help refill this for me?” Lance asks, reaching across his bedside table for a large circular container and gesturing to the balls on the floor. “Normally the balls bounce back but they spilled all over when my family visited. Veronica refused to help me,” Lance says the last part forlornly, like Veronica is a great source of sorrow.
James knows better after spending a war with her. “Why wouldn’t she help you?” This has to be a trap. From the corner of his eye, he notices Kinkade and Leifsdottir methodically fill the container with over a dozen balls the size of a fist.
Lance smiles back, and, if his throat wasn’t so sore, would likely try whistling and staring at the ceiling in a parody of innocence. “No idea. Guess she’s not used to indulging my every whim anymore. Oh thanks!” He says to Kinkade as he takes the container. Settling it on his lap, Lance grabs a green ball and tosses it lightly in the air. Cradling it against his palm, Lance pulls his arm back and throws the ball against the opposing wall. It is shockingly loud.
“Holy hell!” Rizavi screeches. Kinkade and Leifsdottir stare at the ball, watching it bounce back to Lance’s bed. Lunging over the side, he catches the ball, only to throw it again, the thump louder.
Veronica, James thinks as his team watches, did nothing to prepare them for her brother.
After three more tosses, the ball fails to come back, rolling under the bed. Kinkade lets it. He does not offer to pick it up.
The loss does nothing to stop Lance, who ferrets through the container for a blue ball, slightly larger than the last. Satisfied, he uses it to batter the other wall twice more.
“Why?” Rizavi finally breaks the ice to ask. James really wishes she didn’t. It’s a member of Team Voltron. It’s easier just to accept this sort of shit and focus elsewhere.
“You’ll see,” Lance replies brightly. “Hey, did anyone keep track of how many times I hit the wall?”
“Seven,” Leifsdottir offers. Considering they don’t have visual contact face to face during most of their exercises, they’ve all ignored James’ attempts to teach them morse code. Still, he blinks no in her direction.
“It was seven,” she repeats. That’s not the no he meant, if she actually knew what he was signaling.
“Huh. Wow. Okay. Better up my game,” Lance says, mainly to himself. James reaches for the container, thinking of Veronica and everything she doesn’t put him through.
He’s too slow.
Lance continuously clutches balls, only to toss them at the wall again and again.
“Why?” James tries. Kinkade subtly tries to peer at the medical documents at the foot of the bed. James prays it lists a concussion and that the defender of the universe’s fate isn’t like this all the time.
“You’re supposed to have seen.” Lance sounds confused, borderline mildly distraught. James thinks of excusing himself to call Veronica about her brother when the door swings open with a wild, harsh bang!
Katie Holt, clad in an oversized shirt and shorts, pushes past Kinkade, single-minded focus on Lance. One hand clutches a pillow. The other holds what appears to be a video game, but James doesn’t get more than a glance as she shoves them into Leifsdottir’s hands.
“I! Was! Trying! To! Sleep!” Each word is punctuated with a beat of her pillow against Lance’s prone form, and his muted, low groans. Finally, she rears back and hits him across the face, stunning him into silence and leaving the pillow on the bed.
“Excuse me. Sorry about this,” Katie says to Leifsdottir, seizing first the wires and connecting them to the television in the corner and then what is proven to be a game system, which she plugs into the wall.
While she’s been working on her electronic set up, Lance has moved on the bed, leaving her plenty of space and placing her pillow next to his hip. A second blanket has materialized out of nowhere. Katie climbs up, making herself comfortable in the bed. Stretching out, she hands Lance a controller, keeping the other for herself. When the game boots up, she wiggles a bit more, elevating the pillow and her head by resting it against Lance’s stomach.
James and his team watch in silence, glancing at each other for mutual confirmation that they’re the normal ones in terms of team dynamics.
“If you move on me during a boss fight again, I’ll choke you with the wires.” She’s not even looking at Lance, watching the pixels on the screen load.
“That was one time!” He complains, loudly.
“One time,” Rizavi mouths. They’re spectators now. James tilts his head toward the door, but it goes noticed by Lance.
“Veronica says Pidge is a nice girl and should be allowed to rest without me distracting her,” Lance tells them, answering a question James forgot he asked. “Veronica doesn’t know the truth.” He winces as an elbow gets him in a sensitive spot.
“Hi guys. Sorry for interrupting. How are you feeling? Shiro told me none of you were injured but it’s nice to know for sure,” Katie Holt says, truly noting their presence in the room for the first time. James’ hand raises in a half wave, almost against his will.
“Everyone came out fine, thanks for asking,” James responds. “It’s nice to see you up. Do you need anything? We can talk to the staff on our way out.”
“A change of room,” she announces, brightly. Lance’s knee twitches in response, jolting her left arm up for a moment. She presses it back down as Lance sticks his tongue out at her.
“Technically, you’re no longer in your room,” Leifsdottir points out.
“Unfortunately,” Katie agrees, but it’s clear she’s content curled up here, Lance’s hand occasionally patting her hair.
Despite the regulations she’s breaking and the adamancy of the doctors to keep the paladins calm and medicated, James doesn’t think for a moment of reporting either of them. Katie stares him down all the same, her mother’s daughter, as if she doesn’t trust him not to walk out and rat them out to the first doctor he sees. Lance is busy making jovial remarks to Rizavi and Kinkade, but James knows the battlefield, knows the synergy of two people bonded. Lance is primed to respond in anger if Katie does, even if he doesn’t look it, seemingly distracted and happy.
He thinks of telling off Hunk, of the tension with Keith no one was prepared for. James understands this is a team of long memories.
“It was really kind of you guys to visit,” Lance says as Katie stops sizing him up, shifting to talk technology with Rizavi and Leifsdottir. It’s a silent tag team, and terrifying in its effectiveness.
“We should let you rest,” James decides. All but Rizavi, finally getting a chance to geek out, look ready to move on.
Kinkade agrees. “We still need to greet Hunk and Keith.”
“Oh, uh, I don’t think you’ll be able to tonight? Hunk had a long day and is asleep,” Katie tells them. Rizavi despairs.
“Wait, what? He couldn’t last for a little while longer?” Lance interjects.
“Hunk had Shay bring him two large sticks, so he and Keith have been using them to prop open their doors and shout across the halls at each other, so Hunk is exhausted between seeing his family and telling Keith all of their stories.”
“Did it put Keith to sleep?” James forces himself to feel nonchalance at her answer. This was a courtesy visit, and Keith the most injured of all the paladins by far. While the team has been awake for nearly a week, he’s only on his second day.
“No, but Shiro’s with him, and I know they haven’t gotten a chance to talk yet since he woke up,” Katie says, seemingly blase, but James catches her glance at him and then quickly look away to stare at the television.
“Captain’s here?” Kinkade asks.
Of course he is, James does not think.
“We all got a chance to see him. You might ask him about how Hunk’s doing during you meetings” Lance offers.
James takes the solution for the dismissal it is.
this will probably get added to a larger story I’m writing about James before, during, and after the war, but in case I cut it, I thought to at least share it with people who might like it.

Ok ...so why is everyone so convinced Kaxca is end game? Like this isn't to shit on the ship or anything. But like for people who don't like the ship they seem convinced the writers are trying to make them endgame. And maybe they are right maybe it is endgame but ...what convinced you of that?
Like....from what I can tell its because of the he looks at her here
And her showing up again at the end
Which ok....
But he looks at Hunk like this
And James like this
Hell he even hugs Hunk
But like no one is convinced or paranoid Jaith /Jeith or Heith is end game.
My theory was Axca might secretly be related because in that end scene where she shows up Keith and Krolia are at Keith father's grave. It's not like the Hunk and Shay scene where its anyone who cares comes to visit. It's this very personal family moment the family that could have been, all together again.
And then theres Axca who looks on from the distance a part of that scene but still disconnected from it.
Which to me implies that shes connected to that family yet still distant from it.
Which hey I could be wrong but like it's not like this clearly unambiguous end game ship everyone seems to be making it out to be.
And this is especially weird to me since the other ship people think is a unambiguous end game ship( whether they like or are afraid of the idea ) is Allurance.
Which you can argue that they shouldn't have had Allura realize her feelings so quickly after Lotor, or there should have been more ovbious indications of her feelings, because otherwise it makes Lance look like a rebound. You can say that you always just saw them as platonic .
Fine but what you can't deny is whether you see it as platonic or romantic this relationship has has been explored
They had moments together
Their relationship progressed
They became very close whether you see that as romantic or platonic.
This is the other relationship many are convinced is endgame now.
Maybe Keith and Axca will have a boat load of moments next season and end up together I dont know. But as of now given how you have seem one potential example of how voltron handles romantic relationships I just dont get why people are so convinced that Keith and Axca destined to be together from this season alone.
Like I said nothing against the ship if you do think it's going to be a thing or want it to be a thing . I'm not saying you are wrong. I'm just saying it's far from gaurenteed that you are right based just on what shipping fuel you got.
Similarly I'm not saying that allurance has no chance of not being canon. I'm just saying its unlikely they won't be canon with how much build up it got.
#my post#my posts#mine#allurance#kaxca#keith#axca#anti kaxca?#i guess#im just tired of people whining about straight Keith#he looked at a girl for 2 secs#chill#Lance#allura#looking at the opposite sex doesn't make you straight

I tried really hard to keep an open mind about Jeith/Jaith but I’m a little bothered by the pushiness of some of the shippers claiming that James and Keith WILL 100% be endgame even though James hasn’t been around for a long time or even shoehorning him into sweet moments that actually happened between Keith and Shiro. I tried but it put me off so badly :( I guess at least they aren’t sending harassment and death threats like the Klance nuts.
Anytime you ever see another group of shippers claiming that it’s going to be canon in this fandom, they are probably just:
A. Having a good time and wondering about the possibilities in their ship.
or B. Pushing back against the assholes that have been harassing them and telling them they can’t ship [whatever ship].
Honestly, for Jeith’s sake, I haven’t really seen anyone that’s actually convinced it’ll truly be canon. We joke about the looks that James and Keith exchange, because how could we not? Those looks are loaded. And the history implied between them makes us wonder.
But no, don’t take the ship too seriously. Mostly it’s just us having fun.
Hope this helps a little!

“Feelings I didn’t know I had” (James and Keith week 2018)
And they were ROOMATES real (his feelings, I mean)
Written for @jamesandkeith week.
Each day is part of the same story! I recommend to read from the first part, but you can read which ever you want!!!
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 (You are here) | Part 6 | Part 7 | Day 8
Day 5: Kosmo/Shiro/Other | James/Keith | 1.1k words | M | On AO3
When he got back to himself, he was already pacing from one side of his room to another, his heartbeat loud and fast enough to make him wonder if he ran all the way from the hangar to the dorms. But it didn’t slow down, just hitting his ribcage so painfully he gripped the front of his shirt, a horrible sensation swirling his stomach in a nauseous mess.
There was something else there with the confusion, something very similar to rage, but twisting his guts so tightly he had problems trying to breathe.
Was he jealous?
Fucking seriously?
He groaned, falling down to his bed in a rough bounce, and he smacked his hands to his face, trying to lower down the pain from his chest with another physical pain.
He didn’t understand the reason. Or maybe he did, but denied so firmly that he didn’t think about it thoroughly until a memory flashed behind his eyes, Keith smiling shyly at Shiro and making his blood boil in anger.
Takashi Shirogane.
Captain Takashi Shirogane.
Of fucking course.
If Keith would ever smile at someone, that someone will be Shiro. After all, it was because of his recommendation and tutorship that Keith entered the Garrison in the first place. He was who held his hand to help him and offered him a future. He was his only friend, and later James knew that his only family, too. He was his hero and someone to follow in his days in the academy. His absence was the reason behind his emotional and mental breakdown, the reason of his restrained anger issues exploited in rage, and the reason because of his expulsion from the academy.
James still remembers how his eyes went void-black when the startling news spread like fire in gunpowder, how his traits lost all the hope and kindness that he had every time Shiro was by his side or was just mentioned, how all his future that he worried to keep by controlling his temperament and emotions broke down in too many pieces to be recoverable. Everything when Kerberos was declared a failure, a pilot error.
Of course it would be Shiro.
It’ll always be Shiro.
Keith went to the quarantine to take him out, he followed him to space, he became his right hand as Voltron and as team, he saved him uncountable times and he would save him more if he had to, because James just knew how stubborn Keith was.
And now he was jealous of Shiro being always the axis from where Keith’s life revolved.
But, does he wanted to be that axis? Wanted to be the center of all his decisions? Wanted to be the target and cause of all his smiles?
Yes, he fucking wished for that, as strong as he wished for Keith on his bed, panting his name.
His emotions evolved into something he didn’t want to think about. Something he was too afraid of. Something he knew he didn’t stand a chance against someone as great as Shiro, as intelligent as Shiro, as charming as Shiro.
He thought firmly that he would get over it. He was strong enough to get over Keith hating him in his years as cadets, he was strong enough to endure his judgmental silences and his deadpan stares. He was strong enough to get over Keith being expelled and not being able to see him again.
He would get over it. He had to. And he always did the things he had to do.
Oh, he was so naïve.
Everything went to hell since that night without sleep and rest. He couldn’t focus in the meetings anymore, his eyes fixated carefully in the floor. His concentration in the missions was efficient enough to accomplish what he needed to accomplish, but his effort of forgetting about Keith and getting over him was in vain.
The meeting he was in ended quite quickly for him, wandering over and over on how he would get rid of all those useless feelings, and he rolled back his eyes at the realization that the meeting went for three hours straight.
He was going for the door right after Kinkade, too tired to go and release tension at the gym, planning to go and take a nap that he really hoped didn’t go interrupted by pleasure.
But his feet stopped automatically at Keith’s voice, murmuring Shiro’s name softly while both stayed at the table, their bodies too close and familiar with the other that it only needed a touch or some kind of physical contact for them to be seen as a real couple.
Shiro turned to Keith, his strong jawline tilting down to meet his eyes, and the burn in his insides made eruption again with rage at the little smile that Keith gave, so easy to read and too difficult to hate.
And the image just lacked that sickly pink color at the edges and cloying sweet sparkles around that James couldn’t help ask himself if they really weren’t together. Or if they were together but chose to keep it like a secret.
He asked himself if Keith would’ve taken the first step because of his low patience. Or if it was Shiro with all the maturity and responsibility. Or if somehow one of both confessed accidentally, likely Shiro, and the other jumped to it without even thinking thoroughly about it, likely Keith. But he supposed Shiro would lose control, too.
He gasped quietly, asking himself if that loss of control was because of a caress that lingered too much, or a hug that was too tight, or kiss that was too innocent, or maybe a kiss that was no innocent at all.
A kiss...
Have they even kissed, in the first place?
Maybe they were too shy to kiss. Or maybe that is why Keith’s smile always had that tiny bashful curve at the edge when it was dedicated to Shiro.
He asked himself who kissed whom. He asked himself if it was unexpected, or deliberated. So chaste that surged from innocence or so passionate that grazed vulgarity. He asked himself if they already passed hours one above the other between gentle kisses, or maybe desperate ones, if they touched each other and took sighs and gasps from the other, or if they already passed beyond the sweet shy caresses and started with hard grasps and strokes, moaning each other’s name breathlessly before falling into the abysm.
He almost didn’t feel the pain he inflicted to his head by slamming it against the wall.
“James?!”
“I’m fine” he spat at Rizavi, passing her quickly to run for the door, feeling the pulsating hit in his forehead much more than the problem that was attempting to grow below his belt.
He didn’t need to look over his shoulder to know everybody in the room was staring at him, including the happy couple.
He would never be able to look at them in the eye. Ever. Not when he, through his heated thoughts, he inevitably imagined himself between Keith and Shiro.

Friend of Mine
read it on the AO3 at Friend of Mine
by amelia_vale_official
"James didn't really know when it started, but whenever he thought about it, he decided he must have fallen for Keith the moment he jumped out of the swing when they were just kids."
It started off slow and sweet, embarrassed to hold hands, smiling into shoulders during embrace, but gentle fire rose higher to scorch skin, and before he knew it, James was in love with the wild untamable cosmos that spun in Keith's eyes. Innocence and the pure beginnings of blossoming romance, they dreamt of their forever, but how cruel it is sometimes, to dream at all.
