I think the reason why the Utena finale always kills me is because that sweet, helpful, selfless little girl who gave her life for her brother without hesitation, even if she didn’t understand what that actually would mean for her for the rest of eternity, had been in that coffin the whole time.
Anthy insists that she’s soiled and ruined because of her abuse at Akio’s hands, and she genuinely believes it. She sees herself as a wreckage of that past innocent self, who lived when things were Better and died when they stopped being Better, and now what’s left is unsalvageable junk. A “fallen woman,” only capable of acting selfishly and cynically in the service of a man who no longer loves her, who deserves to be hurt again and again for her impurity and her foolishness in clinging to him, who cannot survive in the world outside.
And yet, upon waking up, the very first thing her “true,” unguarded self does is scream at Utena to run, to save herself, to leave her behind.
That selfless little girl never left, not even when she grew up into a jaded, tired young adult. She was always there. All the swords in the world couldn’t kill her. Akio couldn’t kill her. Not even Anthy herself could kill her, not with all the denial and repression and magic in the world.
And in the end, that little girl finally experienced the unconditional love she’d always been hoping for, the kind she’d always deserved but never received from the one she’d sacrificed herself for. And that tiniest glimpse of real love and real happiness was enough to help her escape from the prison she’d been trapped in her whole life, join hands with that tired and jaded old witch who’d spent what felt like eternity trying to bury her, and walk free.
All girls are like the Rose Bride, sure. Some boys are, too. Touga shared enough of Anthy’s trauma at Akio’s hands that he eventually got a sword pulled from his own chest, even if he was forbidden from wearing the bridal outfit because a boy wearing a suitable gown for the role would be against the Ohtori Academy dress code. However, the flipside of that is that if there’s hope for even the most hated little girl in the whole world, there’s also hope for the rest of us.

I like Zaheer as a villain but he is so overrated tbh. Not only because he's not as smart as neither him or people think he is —if he were, he wouldn't have prevented facing Korra in a fair fight only for at the end being like "Oh, Korra, we're poisoning you so we can force the Avatar State and kill you in it; I'm sure that straight up telling you that and therefore giving you a heads up instead of taking you by surprise —like Azula did with Aang— will not matter at all because you totally won't be able to defend yourself after we trigger a literal defense mechanism that gives you the power of a God. Yeah the chains will totally stop that from happening because they're platinum so you totally won't break free even though the Avatar State also enhances your already impressive physical strength." Definitely that was not his smartest move.
It's because they put him as one of the top Airbenders in the franchise and like. That's not true lmao. Zaheer was a good Airbender compared to most of the New Air Nation but tbh you can't compare a guy who was already a skilled martial artist and who was adapting his skills to Airbending to a random guy from Ba Sing Se named Wang who's 38 years old who just got Airbending and hasn't done any martial arts before in his life. Most of Zaheer's advantage in fights comes from 1) him being already a skilled figher 2) people being taken by surprise because they didn't know he was an Airbender 3) people not being used to fighting Airbenders 4) him not holding back unlike most Airbenders. You think he's impressive for suffocating the Earth Queen? All Airbenders with a bit of training probably have the ability to do that (Gyatso literally did that against a whole battalion of Comet Firebenders), they simply choose not to because it goes against their ideals.
Airbending Zaheer could deal with average and a bit above average-good benders/fighters (like White Lotus members or Kya; Kya was a healer, not actually a fighter, and the White Lotus are talented and all but you can't compare those guys in Korra to the main crew lmao) due to his martial arts skills that adapt well with Airbending. He was talented, okay. He defeated Tonraq on top of a mountain while Tonraq had a limited access to water, cool. Now, him being one of Top Best Benders of the franchise? No lmao, most actual Top Benders TM like Iroh, Jianzhu or Amon could probably deal with him pretty easily. The rest of his Red Lotus pals could beat him. He is not even one of the best Airbenders, so don't put him in that top; he just got Airbending, he's talented but there is no comparison. You really think this guy is anywhere close to Gyatso? Kelsang? Aang?! Zaheer wasn't even at Book 1 Aang level. Zaheer needed to gang up with the rest of the Red Lotus against Tenzin because he was kicking his ass and Tenzin wasn't even breaking a sweat while doing so lmao. You put him against an actual Master and he gets bodied. Book 3 Korra would mope the floor with him with Waterbending and she could probably deal with him with just Airbending. Post Book 4 Korra could probably mope the floor with him with just Airbending. The only thing Zaheer does that makes him stand out against any other Airbender with more experience than Random Guy Wang or literal children is that he doesn't hold back like most Airbenders and that he learnt how to fly. And the flying thing, as impressive as it was, was less of a talent thing and more about that he could do it because he didn't have any earthly attachments anymore.
Zaheer was a great antagonist. I really liked him as a character, he was very interesting, his philosophy was interesting, to me he was the best antagonist in all of TLOK along with Amon and just behind Azula and Yun as my fave antagonist in the franchise. And he was talented and skilled, and a threat. But he is just not as powerful as some people make him out to be imo and that's it. Actual Top Tier Benders could eat him for breakfast.

I read the Saw (2004) script today, out of pure boredom and realised that they changed a lot of things. I don’t wanna list everything they changed, but one that stood out to me was Amanda.
In the original script, she’s named Amanda “Mandy” Denlon, with the last name later being reused in Saw 3 for Lynn Denlon. Here she’s a 27 year old nurse, who actually works in the same hospital as Lawrence Gordon, who faintly recognises her but doesn’t remember her name. It’s mentioned likely to allude to the fact Gordon is rather apathetic to both his patients and coworkers. He doesn’t refer to the patients by their names and he doesn’t care for his coworkers, hardly remembering Zep’s name. Because of this I’m assuming her being another one of Gordon’s coworkers that he didn’t remember the name of was intentional.
The reason she is being tested is NOT because she’s an addict, but because she attends therapy and Jigsaw feels like she complains too much. Which like… dude. Tbf, Jigsaw in the first movie was always an asshole and in the original script he’s even worse and arguably more evil than nuanced. It’s likely this was her original reason for being tested because of the original Saw short film her trap is based on. In that movie David was only being tested because he said “Living is overrated.” Amanda’s reason is stupid just like all the other ones: “You skipped work”, “You take anti-depressants”, “You cheated on your wife.”
Anyway. They actually reveal in the script that the same thing her cellmate was injected with that made him paralysed so Amanda could kill him, was the same thing Jigsaw used on himself during the course of the bathroom trap. Speaking of, at the end when he gets up he injects himself with something to regain control of his body.
The final change is that Amanda actually goes to either jail or a hospital afterwards. They have this kinda nasty dialogue where instead of Amanda saying that Jigsaw saved her, she says “I’m alive.” They then say to her “Where you’re going I’d rather be dead.” Which like, Jesus dude.
Honestly I’m glad it was changed. The direction they went with Amanda’s character is so much better and without those changes we’d have never gotten her back for another movie. I doubt Mandy Denlon would’ve been revealed to be a Jigsaw apprentice, especially if she was in jail or a mental hospital. Again, it is interesting how she was originally going to tie into the overarching narrative surrounding Lawrence Gordon, but her being some random nobody makes it more impactful than her being Gordon’s coworker IMO. It really shows that Jigsaw is willing to do this to anybody he deems necessary, whilst the original felt more like she was only tested because Jigsaw was planning to test Gordon later.

respectfully where do you like. start with touhou
gonna copy and paste what I said to my friend sara when she asked for suggestions:
you can either start with the manga or start with the games. the games are generally short, light on plot (but they still have solid characterization imo), and really fun. BUT they're almost all bullet hell games so that's definitely gotta be your Thing
most of the games have a difficulty selection and you can just play on easy if you want. it's fine. some of the really old ones won't let you play the final stage on easy but those ones are largely overrated anyway
if you want a starter game I'd recommend
TH7, Perfect Cherry Blossom: first of the touhou games to really have, like, characters and ideas in a way that matters. pretty simple, very Iconic. it's a little flat in my opinion tho
TH10, Mountain of Faith: this is where the games really hit their stride, and it's the start of like. one of the two multi-game arcs in the series. it's not too difficult, it has some fan favorite characters, and I like the music a lot
TH14, Double Dealing Character: my personal favorite. it's tricky to get used to, especially because there's a gimmick that works best once you've played the game several times and are starting to memorize the stage layouts through repetition. that said it has My Blorbos in it and I think it has some of the best patterns and characters in the series
TH17, Wily Beast and Weakest Creature: it's for furries and it's one of the easiest games in the series. it's basically the start of the second multi-game arc
you can find all the games at moriyashrine.org. to get them translated to a language other than Japanese, look up thcrap on github.
IF you end up not liking how the games play but you want to read the story & dialog, that's all available on https://en.touhouwiki.net/ The wiki's original writing isn't always the most reliable, but it has the official character profiles & all paths from all main games (plus some fangames?) fully translated into english, so that's always reliable. it also has text from some of the written works.
as for manga: forbidden scrollery and wild and horned hermit are typically the recommended entry points, and I'm inclined to agree.

controversial: Antonelli is overrated and nowhere near as good as Max is. everyone keeps sayin "yo, he's Verstappen re-born"... guys. this boy was held by hand by Toto Wolff since karting and his way to Formulas was cleaned from any stick or stone so he wouldn't God forbid stumble. Max had to fight it hard way, plus his dad obviously didn't make it any easier (not saying I hate Jos for that, I just don't agree with his parenting style). if Antonelli comes the next year to Merc because TW is so desperate to show everyone that he no longer cares he lost Max cause he made his own, the performance expectations from Antonelli will be so high that him being freshly eighteen, growing up in the pressure of social media... it will destroy him. this is the example of not rushing things otherwise you can damage them before they could show their full potential.
Well. WELL.
He is obviously nowhere near the level Max is now, but when Max entered F1? Idk, probably not, but also, you don’t have to drive like Max to be a phenom. Max was 1 in a million and maybe this kid isn’t as immediately polished, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have the stuff to be an incredible driver.
I don’t know about Kimi’s karting record but by all accounts is extraordinary. No, he’s not setting the world alight in f2 but having watched some f2 this year I’m not about to base all my opinions on that.
It depends what you mean by Max didn’t have it easy. He didn’t have barriers to entry to the sport, he didn’t have parents who wanted anything different for him, he didn’t have parents who weren’t committed enough to drive him around Europe. He had a team of people around him from day 1 who grafted like hell for him and made sure he was not a victim of snake oil salesmen and people who wanted to make money off him or would have pushed him around. So no I’m not saying he had it easy from a personal development side but he did get to make racing his whole life from a very young age, and he had people around him who only had his best interests at heart. Not everyone has that. I can only hope Kimi has the same strong unit around him.
From what I understand, Max advanced as quickly as he did because however much he needed to do to win, Jos was pushing him ten steps further. Max learnt to ignore the noise because Jos was making most of it. It seems that Kimi has grown up differently. But let’s not forget that Kimi’s dad is also a racer, it’s not like he’s just been catapulted into the sport straight from Toto’s laboratory.
I don’t think having had Toto’s support and not having been forged in hellfire means his success or talent isn’t valid.
That being said, I do hope he has a good support network and they insulate him from the media chatter as much as possible. Because yes that will ruin him very quickly.
I think more than anything what will ruin him is not going to F1 too early, but going to the wrong team. I think those with talent will swim, because at the end of the day with enough testing you can learn how to drive the car and if you’re talented and you’re fast you’ll be fine. But what you don’t want is an 18 year old kid being pushed and pulled from pillar to post by a TP who expects a well rounded driver from day 1, and who will allow the kid to be brow beat by overzealous stewards and bullied by other drivers in track. Imo Toto will not stand up for a young driver in the way he will need to and that is what will damage a kid’s confidence and career prospects. So yeah, there’s an argument for leaving him in F2 until he’s had long enough to not make the mistakes that come with being an inexperienced driver. But I’m not sure if any amount of F2 can really prepare you, look at Logan (I could go on because my beef with f2 is REAL).
All this to say, I don’t know if he’s overrated. I think the comparison to Max is not helping him but it also doesn’t invalidate his potential. Max has really fucked the curve for young drivers I think. But I do think that the worry about ruining him is a bit uncharitable the way it’s often presented, especially in a climate where the fear around young drivers is really causing a bottleneck getting into F1. I think the right team wouldn’t ruin a real talent. I don’t think Merc is the right team but that’s just me.

That line about katherine being a myth and a legend sounded ooc coming from kai katherine already is a overrated villain and we are supposed to believe he would have this respect for her over bonnie who killed the devil when all katherine did was use her whims to manipulate cade they had kai there why not just make him the villain over katherine
No clue why they decided to juggle Kai and Katherine at the same time as villains 😭 .They were a weird mashup imo
Though I think maybe they paired Kai and Katherine up on purpose to try and divert attention away from Kai x Bonnie, sort of like a "hey everyone look what about these two instead" -and certain people definitely ate that pairing up.
Kai and Katherine have pretty big personalities, Katherine's kind of a narcissist and Kai's...well, Kai. Even though they're both antagonists who are at odds with the MFG, doesn't mean they would get along and be this perfect pair, though it seemed that maybe that's what the writers wanted us to think about those two.
In fact, I think Kai's dynamic with Katherine would be a bit like his dynamic with Damon (not when they made Damon and Kai buddy buddy for no reason but like their initial dynamic through season 6) -like on paper Damon and Kai kinda seem similar in that they have a "devil may care" attitude, they can be tricky and they've got murderous tendencies. But they did not get along/ like each other.
Damon and Kai both like the sound of their own voice too much, they both like to be the one to be in control of a situation, -so it makes much more sense they'd likely be annoyed by eachother /dislike each other -so their season 6 dynamic made much more sense than when the writers switched it up to make them besties.
(In season 6 Kai and Damon seemed to best case scenario- only tolerate eachother or be sort of indifferent to eachother, there were also times they were outright annoyed/ hostile to eachother, also seemed like Kai said certain things on purpose in order to provoke a reaction from Damon and get him riled up- and it always seemed to work too lmaooo, I think Kai definitely knew how to push Damons buttons, it was light work for him lol -tho let's be honest Damon isn't know for his restraint)
--- I think Kai's dynamic with Katherine would also be sort of similar to this.
Also find it funny they tried to make Kai have some sort of relationship to other characters in season 8 -and imo they did not make sense for his character/ progression. Just seemed like they were avoiding having him interact with Bonnie as much as they possibly could.

Yoda and Mace have been my favorite characters since childhood, and I never quite forgave him for killing the latter and choking Padme. Granted, I was 12 and had zero romantic understanding or media literacy but I thought it was fucked up how he killed kids and a Queen married him?? Anger issues with a bad haircut??? With 'kind and compassionate' Padme??? Like his actor is attractive but Anakin gives off school shooter vibes imo. I like Obi wan too, but kinda like you like the really ugly old cat who gets into the trash but is genuinely sweet and pettable.
Anyway, my reasons for hating him are probably really petty and not as coherent from yours, but I really do appreciate the quality analysis.
I don't think those are petty reasons at all (well, the bad haircut thing might be a little petty lol).
In all seriousness, you don't NEED essays to explain why you don't like a character. I'm someone who kind-of ENJOYS overthinking my media and writing down my thoughts, it helps me sometimes to be able to really figure out why I feel the way I do about storylines and characters. Sometimes it leads me to love a thing even more, sometimes it doesn't. But nobody NEEDS long coherent essays detailing why they simply don't like a character. Not every character is going to appeal to everyone and that's just how it works.
I love Obi-Wan and there's a LOT of people out there who hate him for one reason or another or who just are more neutral on him and find him overrated, and that's fine. I happen to really like Trace and Rafa Martez and apparently that's a minority opinion. I think that Cikatro Vizago is one of the better characters in Rebels, and certainly the one with the best redemption arc on that show, and I KNOW I'm likely the only one who thinks that way.
And of course, if you've been around this blog long enough, you know there's tons of characters that I DISLIKE that a lot of people really adore. They just aren't for me. Sometimes I do feel like the characters are badly written and I have no qualms with explaining why I think so, but that was never required. The characters don't have to be badly written for me to dislike them, and I never owe anyone an explanation for why a character doesn't work for me. Neither do you.

I have two of them
1: Steven x Peter isn't that bad honestly. Imo at least. It doesn't deserve the amount of hating it gets. 'But Steven ruined Peter's life by sending him to become a phone guy' the games go out of their way to show and even directly tell you that phone guys are slaved people who are brought back from the dead and forced to do as their programming says. Steven isn't an expert or anything he's just as slaved as the others were. And while he does say 'I hope u can forgive me for this' which kinda means that he knew it was bad? But honestly I still don't blame it on him fully. From my understanding phone guys are only capable of going 'against' (for lack of better word) their programming only if they have some humanity or memories when they were alive, which I dont think Steven does, in both dsaf1 & 3 hes fully convinced that he's Scott Cawthon and only remembers that he isnt after literally being forced to. 'they hate eachother' I've replayed all the dsaf games and I can't find anything confirming that. Steven obviously regrets what he did and wants to make it right to not just Peter, but everyone else as well. Peter and Steven don't interact much, but Peter hasn't said anything mean about Steven once. The only thing that implies this is Peter's line of Jack saving even those who don't deserve it. But honestly he never said it was about Steven. For all we know he could had been referring to Dave or hell even himself. 'Its boss x employee which would be toxic by realistic standards' ok I see your point but why compere realistic standards to fucking dsaf? You know what else would be incredible toxic by realistic standards too? Davesport. But the fandoms not ready for that talk.
Speaking of davesport
2: Davesport is hellaaaaaaa overrated. I get why people ship it. It has much potential. But honestly it's the only thing the fandom talks about and Im getting tired of it. Where's my Steven contact? Where's my Peter or Dee contact? Where's the phone guys, Henry, Jacktrap or hell even Davetrap contact? Where's the angst connect on the Kennedy siblings? The only endings this fandom talks about are like the Gnarly Endings even tho I think the good ending and pure evil endings in dsaf2 are much better better than the gnarly end. Contact of the legacy routes are almost non existent ESPECIALLY on the legacy route of 2 and when there's is. It's davesport angst. How about we make angst about how Jack literally kills his motherfucking sister that he literally died for in an even more curler dsaf3 legacy route. I also hate how much the fandom mischaracterizes it. No they aren't uwu gay boys, no they don't have a perfect relationship. Their relationship is fucking unhealthy, flawed and bittersweet. (No Im not saying davesport is a pr*ship don't accuse me of that, although it's an unhealthy relationship it's not an ab**ive one). Dave literally stalks Jack, he has cameras on his house for the real Fredbear's sake. Yes I know they're treated like jokes, yes I know that Jack doesn't seem to mind, yes I know that Dave & Jack ARE capable of being in a somewhat normal relationship, with Flipside Dave at least. But still that's not healthy. They are literally willing to kill eachother if they're opposite! Those are two dead courses that have been stripped almost completely out of all their humanity thanks to that pink fuck Henry. Obviously they won't be sweet and caring to eachother or anyone really. If you like Davesport at the very least actually protey it correctly.
This is coming from someone who doesn't even ship Steveter (that's what I'll call the ship) and loves Davesport btw

Ranking every Riverdale Season (from worst to best)
Reminder: this is just MY opinion. Feel free to share your own!
7. Season 5
Tumblr media
With the exception of the first 3 episodes (which I just consider to be part of 4), this season was just a huge nothingburger disappointment. The idea of a time jump was cool, and it even started out okay. Then it quickly went off the rails and not only fell back into repeat territory but the jump itself was just executed so poorly… I was beyond done with Hiram villain stuff atp. The Mothmen were fine, just nowhere near as good as the Gargoyle King or Black Hood for me. Too many characters are written TOO awfully (especially the queer characters) and sometimes it feels like they tried to cram way too much into it. It just leaves the season feeling bloated and incoherent. Best parts by far were Toni getting a big role and the introduction of Tabitha.
Still, those weren’t enough to save the season imo. Overall S5 felt the least like Riverdale to me & it was lowkey boring a lot, so it gets last place. Boo. 🍅
6. Season 4
Tumblr media
I’m actually so serious when I say I really love this season. S5 is probably the only one I dislike, the rest of these can change at the drop of a hat lol.
The main reason I’m putting S4 here is that it was very hit or miss with my enjoyment of the storylines. Jughead’s stuff at Stonewall was okay. Cheryl got another unhinged story when she should’ve been getting therapy, Archie’s story was mind-numbing, The Auteur was creepy and great until it was revealed to be Jellybean (wah-wah-wah). Maybe it has to do with COVID throwing things off, but the whole season was just a little lackluster and disjointed. Also, TICKLE-PORN?????
The tribute to Luke Perry was beautiful tho. Miss him. 💔
5. Season 1
Tumblr media
ALRIGHT. Before you pull out those pitchforks, just hear me out. It’s an incredible season, it’s the most well-written, the tone was amazing, and it set everything up perfectly.
But I do think that because it’s only the first season, and because it’s so short, a lot of the dynamics I personally love just don’t exist. Toni isn’t on the show yet. And I feel like part of what made Riverdale stand out, WAS the craziness and the willingness to do literally anything remotely cuckoo, which S1 just didn’t have. I’m just personally very attracted to wackiness of the other seasons. It’s a little overrated.
But again, this still season is INCREDIBLE and I’m still obsessed with its’ vibes.
4. Season 7
Tumblr media
Don’t hurt me. 😭
But buckle up, because I have a lot to say here.
I REALLY had such a good time with this season… I mean, the Choni of it all is really want gets me obsessively thinking about this season on a daily basis. The way they were treated in the first half is everything I wished for them back in the earlier seasons. If this were a ranking based on Choni throughout the seasons, S7 would be #1. Kevin also got a ton of great stuff. S7 was so kind to the queer characters… Other than them, I just love how they got to have FUN. They took us back in time and basically just put the characters into an old-timey Archie Comic. Ridiculous but entertaining side plots that actually kept me interested and put the characters in a totally new environment. And despite the fact that people seem to want to ignore this, they ARE still the characters we’ve known and loved since S1, they just didn’t remember. But the memories are still there, and still inform all of their decisions and relationships.
Unfortunately, my biggest gripe with S7 is the way it feels disconnected to the rest of the show overall. They really let the comet story flop hard. Even if we decided to stay in the 50s in the end, we should’ve had way more time with our characters with their memories. They should’ve had conversations that were long overdue, that circle back and bring things to a close, the way final seasons should. I would’ve preferred they go back to the present, but in an altered timeline due to all the changes made to their lives. Tabitha was WASTED and thrown away and it makes me so mad tbh. They chickened out with the Varchie vs Barchie thing and instead we got that dumbass polycule and everyone dating everyone only for literally no one to end up with anyone (except Choni & Clevin uwu). The later half is especially a letdown, because that’s when we should’ve been ramping up to the end with their memories and certain people coming back together. Instead, we just got a lot of randomness. Which, while fun, doesn’t make for a good final season imo.
I think this season would’ve been ranked in my top 3 had it NOT been the final one…
It’s such a polarizing season for me and that’s why it’s smack dab in the middle!
3. Season 2
Tumblr media
What a lot of people consider the glory days lol.
Everything that was well-established in S1 was built on and just made even better. The dynamics between the core four and each one of their storylines was spot on and interesting. Black Hood is probably the most interesting mystery villain we ever had on the show and delving deeper into the Cooper family was great. The slasher horror movie vibes with Black Hood’s story & his victims were just elite.
The season was darker and full of lots of twists and turns, which I always appreciate to keep my on my toes. We got introduced to Toni and Choni was born!
It did have some meh stuff tho, the Archie vs Hiram wasn’t all that interesting to me in this season, even though I DO like Hiram a lot. He’s always been an intriguing character to me, I just think he was severely overused. I also don’t like Bughead lol. The Chic stuff is hit or miss. It was bordering on crazy, but not quite at that sweet spot yet.
Overall this season was more exciting and deeper than even the likes of S1. And this is, of course, where we started getting into the Southside Serpents and the gang wars, which I think is such an iconic aspect of the show. Just a fun, deeper, more interesting season for me!
2. Season 6
Tumblr media
I’m a sucker for witches and magic and time travel shenanigans, so this season was RIGHT up my alley. Rivervale, Sabrina, the spookiness, Cheryl’s witch arc, Percival was great, Tabitha getting to shine, I loved SO much of this season. Having one villain, that they all focus on I think did wonders for the cohesiveness of the season. Almost everyone got involved in it, there weren’t as many tangential storylines, and the buildup to the comet was so much fun. It was the perfect blend of camp and wackadoodleness and serious life/death stuff.
The worst part for me, is the ships. Tangs being a plague on society and them making Toni’s whole storyline about being a mother (a bad, awful one ugh). Fangs was never a standout to me, but they just made him insufferable this season. The custody battle was insanely stupid and a waste of time. “Baby Anthony” sucked (Dale FTW). Barchie has always bored me. Cheryl/Heather just felt like besties lol. The ships suffered hard in this season lol.
Still, we got Choni confirmed soulmates and Thabigail + Jughead/Tabitha were cute. So that aspect wasn’t ALL bad.
Tonally, it’s soooo different from the other seasons but I think they strike a better balance between mystery villainous plot and campiness than the other seasons. I ate up the supernatural and horror stuff, the plot is one of the most consistent in the whole show, there’s good character development and I just loved the craziness. They easily redeemed themselves after that abysmal S5. 🙏
1. Season 3
Tumblr media
Ahhh PEAK insanity. Wild, compelling, dark but also silly af sometimes. The show went off the rails in the best way and I have a blast every time I watch it. A true fever dream. They embraced the crazy and I think that’s what sets it apart from all the other seasons. Imo, there isn’t a single “bad” episode here. They were still in high school, giving us that teenage drama/those dynamics that made Riverdale what it is. My fav ships were together (not without their drama), there was an intriguing mystery with the Gargoyle King. The flashback episode with the parents was amazinggggg and I loved everything about the Gryphon’s and Gargoyle’s storyline and how it trickled down to affect so many people. The atmosphere of the season, the main cast that got focus and actually got to have screentime together, Heathers heing probably their strongest musical. I love it SO MUCH.
There are some weaker points tho. There is a lot that happens this season, like A LOT. But I enjoyed it so much that I lowkey give it a pass for being so convoluted. Dilton was wasted and killed off after not getting much in general. Bughead & Veggie suck. I wish the G&G and Cult stuff had been intertwined better.
An organ harvesting cult led by Chad Michael Murray? Archie fighting a bear? Mass seizures? Babies thrown into a fire and then levitating? Veronica opening a speakeasy as a teenager? Choni cat burglars? Archie in juvie? Bunker sex? Speakeasy sex? Fizzle rocks? Killer DnD? THE EPIC HIGHS AND LOWS OF HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL?
I-C-O-N-I-C. Riverdale is at its best for me when it doesn’t care about being a normal gritty teen show. Maybe this season was a little messier, but I think the sheer fun and craziness more than makes up for that. Everytime I rewatch this season, I enjoy the crap out of it and am reminded why I love these characters and this silly little show so much. ♥️
So to recap:
S3 > S6 > S2 > S7 > S1 > S4 > S5
P.S: if there’s a major typo or I put something in the wrong season, lemme know. I just regurgitated this all from memory when I woke up so my thoughts were hella jumbled…

After seeing your “Sympathic” Villain post, in your opinion, who would you prefer to have been essentially the main villain or antagonist throughout the series? Hori has actually made some interesting villains, but he focuses on, imo, the three most uninteresting, overrated villains (Dabi, Toga and Shigaraki). All the while pretty much every other villain outside of those three actually has ties to themes and problems the world of MHA actually face.
Oh the answer to this is easy.
The HPSC without a doubt.
It wouldn't be OFA because it's obvious he overstayed his welcome, so the HPSC would be the best pick in my opinion.
If things were written differently, I could see them becoming the antagonist to keep the status quo of things when the LOV begin exposing society and Izuku and many others rocking the boat too many times. So they would enlist the many heroes they have under their thumb to *ahem* make them disappear for good and say they died doing a good thing.
This of course won't stand as Class 1-A and the LOV team up to take down a common enemy and hopefully come to a compromise once the HPSC are taken down.
At least that's how I would have it.

🌸 = my roleplay petpeeve
// Bc this has been happening across several blogs, not just here:
Reblog karma: If you have no plans of sending something back, then the least you should do is reblog them, from the source or look elsewhere in the posts' notes to reblog from.
I'm constantly going back in my prompts tag to delete old reblogs. BUT THERE ARE STILL, complete strangers who dig through it and reblog it from me. Like?????????? That has the same effect as a 'fuck you' in my DMs. It's 10x funnier, if it is one of those blogs with a long ass pinned/rules page. And they still had no qualms in doing this shit. It's not quirky, let me tell you that much.
Notice, I'm not complaining about not receiving asks whenever I reblog something. That's not an issue for me (mutuals/rp partners should only send stuff, when they genuinely feel like doing so, without any obligations). All I'm asking is to not make me feel like, I'm just a RP memes archive type of blog, that's only there to provide writing prompts & nothing else. I may not be the most active RPer, but none of my blogs are abandoned.
This has been a long running peeve I've been having to deal with, for YEARS. And it made a resurface as of lately.
🌵 = a disliked canon character in my fandom
// Hades & his spectres/Judges are overrated as fuck IMO LOL I say as a clown, bc I'm a classic golds dweeb fan. Clearly, I'm not in a position to say what is or isn't overrated.
Jokes aside. It may have been a result of the way I tried watching the classic series (by binge watching the entire thing). BUT when I got to the Hades arc, I got SO mad when I realized they brought back those drawn out battles. Like those were my least enjoyed bits of the early parts of the anime and the Sanctuary arc, meanwhile the Poseidon arc didn't have any of that (which is why I rate the Poseidon arc as my favorite one of the anime adaptation. 15 episodes with NO filler??? HELL YEAH.).
You can say I was already pretty burned, and should have slowed down with the final part of the series. But even then, I don't think that would have changed a thing about my general disinterest towards Hades' servants. Visually speaking to me, they are the messiest and most boring looking characters from the classic series (they only ever wear 1 color and look way too much like a toy, than some form of proper armor).
Rhadama.nthys is the biggest bitch in the club, to me he was the most insufferable. "He is the strongest*tm of all judges." *= only when Hades is straight up cheating and the story feels like unnecessarily drag things out. Reminder that Kanon killed him without any cloth equipped, and he went out the way HE chose to. He literally didn't even have to TRY.
My favorite part of the Hades arc was seeing Kanon wipe the floor, with everyone he crossed paths with. This feels 10x more satisfying, after reading the Destiny & Origins extra chapters.
💐 = my favorite part about the fandom
// I truly mean when I say, this is the chillest community I've been in a long time. Case in point: I haven't felt THIS artiscally inspired in YEARS. I've been doing so many works, I'm literally running an event in the main fandom. I've been brimming with inspiration to do so many things, that goes beyond the RPing aspect. And it has improved my general mental health SO much!
I'm forever thankful for getting into Sts LOL
🌿 = my least favorite part about the fandom
// If you exclusively speak English, you will suffer to find anything or anyone else from this fandom. Which isn't a problem for me at all but, I can see how frustrating or sad it must feel like, you can't get into a community due to a language barrier.
And the community itself isn't exactly the friendliest one towards gringos. Which I mean............ You can't blame us for feeling defensive, when literally every other fandom went down to shit, when things became very American-centered.
Not to start the whole Anti vs proship debate. BUT It is a fact that all antis (ppl who want to be cops/have no qualms with harrassing or policing others/etc.) I've come across are an American, who's way too enthralled in their lil bubble they call world. Then they have a breakdown bc as it turns out, the rest of the world isn't AT ALL like them. And there's genuine pushback/retaliation from the community, against these kinds of whiny bitchass mfers LOL.
Obviously, this doesn't mean the fandom is perfect nor it's an Utopia, where there isn't drama at all. BUT when compared to others, it feels a lot tamer in comparison. Unfortunately, it comes at the cost of coming off as a very closed off fandom, that's centered around overseas things for a change.

Ooh fanfic tropes. Alright gimme your thoughts on sex pollen, flower shop AUs, and whatever the trope that first pops into your head when I ask you to think of the most overrated fanfic trope is
(Hope you feel better soon!! 🫂)
sex pollen answered here goddamn we’re loving sex pollen today
flower shop aus! flower shop and coffee shop and bookshop and tattoo parlor aus are all girlfriends in my head. i’d put any of them at a B because i don’t spend my spare time daydreaming about them (characters being in charge of retail businesses always gives me secondhand anxiety 😩) but it’s never a turn-off to see in the tags of a fic. especially when it’s stede in charge and he’s doing something weird as hell with it. flower shop aus specifically are fun bc i think there’s a lot of space there for it to interact with ed and stede’s relationships to masculinity and gender expression. also one other thing i’m sure is out there but i don’t remember having encountered is misunderstandings based on flowers-as-gestures vs flowers-as-products (“what do you mean you didn’t know? i’ve been giving you long stemmed roses for months!” “you said those were freebies!” “you think i go around giving long stemmed freebies to every regular customer in the shop???”)
…..ok the FIRST trope that popped into my head for overrated tropes was “and there was only one bed” which imo isn’t quite fair bc i do think it is a Very Good Trope. but it’s a Very Good Trope in the way broccoli is a Very Good Vegetable—yes it’s popular for a reason and yes i eat it often but why is the hype so disproportionate compared to other vegetables….. spare a thought for the roasted brussels sprout…. the steamed cauliflower……. the humble pea….. B- i think. for both bed and broccoli. but bear in mind all these are the words of someone whose favorite vegetable is eggplant, so

I’ve seen one half of the fandom divided between those who love Yog Sothoth (to be fair he’s the vampire version of Francis and who doesn’t look the goth vampire look? Personally, I think vampires are overrated but they can be cool sometimes, especially when I first saw Yog. I was like, “damn. They made the milkman look hotter. I like him more now”) on the other spectrum, I’ve seen fans who hate Yog’s design because he looked too ‘emo teen who’s going through a phase’.
In my opinion, I personally love Yog’s design. Mainly because I’m a goth myself and I love his goth look but compared to the other nightmares residents, Yog seemed too ‘ordinary’ out of them. He looks less of a monster than the others which is why I can find some redesigns of him. But maybe that’s the point. I feel like Francis prides himself into to keeping things simple so that’s why Yog looks more ‘human’ among the monsters.
I actually came up with some redesign ideas myself. I just prefer not to post it here cuz I’m not comfortable posting my art on tumblr anymore. My version of Yog is that he has more of a trad goth look with black messy hair, longer and sharper incisors with a white ruffled top and black pants with blood dripping down his chin onto his shirt. He has bigger pointer ears but with more spiked studs and red irises.
Another idea I have is to give Yog more batlike qualities such as a bat’s nose, bat wings and bat ears (his bat ears perk up when he’s excited about something).
Another idea I have is to let Yog keep his human trad goth/vampire appearance when he’s not hunting. When he’s out for blood, he’ll transform into this monstrous bat like demon with the wings, sharp teeth, talons with lots of black fluff.
I'll be honest, anon. I'm one of the people who don't like his design. It just feels so out of place and I don't even think it fits him. I know he looks like that because of fanservice but IMO you can have fanservice AND still make his design fit the monster theme better. Look at how many people simp for Abducius. Also, I just don't think its hot. Not a huge fan of goth/emo style, at least for Francis. The only thing I like about his design is that it matches with Steven's nightmare form and my little Milkplane heart will take whatever that connects them together.
I want to redesign him too. Nothing crazy, but I just want him to look like an actual vampire and not a literal eboy lmao.
If you want to share your redesign privately, can you dm me? I'd be interested to see but I understand if you don't want to.
I like the bat-like idea for him! That sounds so cute tbh.
OHHH YES I LOVE HIM TRANSFORMING INTO A BAT MONSTER THATS SO COOL

Random thought.
Yknow a question i think is a bit overrated? “Whats the meaning of life?”
Heres my answer. It doesnt really matter. Some of the smartest people studied all forms of life for decades trynna find that answer
Dont worry about lifes meaning. Life can do that itself. What you need to worry about isnt whats the meaning of life. Its about whats YOUR meaning of life? What do you find value in life?whether it be religion, friends, family, loved ones. What matters is those things matter to you (that and dont be a dick about any of those things be respectful aight?)
Life is beautiful. Theres so much beauty around us. Imo Worrying about what everything means not gonna do a damn thing but stress you out. Find meaning in life your way. Find your meaning of life. Theres alot to live and love for. Just thought id share that for anyone who might need it

Do you have any advice on making time for writing and avoiding burnout? I'm impressed by the amount of projects you have and how they're consistently high quality.
oh love. sunshine. you tiny fresh vanilla seed (precious & delightful // it is a luxury to interact with you). so first i’m gonna apologize because there’s a 99% chance this is not the advice you’re looking for and SURPRISE i wrote another novel. (so also jot this down… my being prolific is helped by the fact that i literally cannot shut the fuck up to save my life). anyway here are my rules for writing
1. don’t look at the man behind the curtain (in this case that’s me). I had 70% of window and probably 90% of sweatshirt girl drafted before i even started revising && posting individual chapters/ installments. it gives the illusion of me cranking out a new chapter every week but i do NOT do that. i just try to revise once a week. maybe write a half+ chapter of something new. it’s not an illusion i create on purpose. i just know i need TIME to rest my brain before I come back and revise or it’ll start all looking the same to me. so i def frontload my writing before i start posting.
i also do this because i need at least the ghost of an ending to keep writing
i also never originally intended to post window or sweatshirt girl - i was originally just writing for me. so they were mostly done before i even decided to post
i ALSO work at a school and while i do have hours over the summer, i am doing much less (imo) important things when there aren’t students around, sooooo i end up daydreaming and drafting a lot
my writing is also powered by depression (“write the world as i want it to be”) and frankly i don’t recommend that to anyone ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
so if i look like i’m producing a lot it’s just because of the way this year has unfolded, and once we get through the next few chapters of window i’m sure I’ll hit a lull because I’m still struggling to write those chapters (sorry in advance folksss)
2. i swear to god creativity (like everything in nature) happens in cycles. blah blah no flower blooms all year && no tree bears fruit every season. fallowness is IMPORTANT for growing gardens. if you are in a slow space - let yourself be slow. sink into the quiet season. speed&&quantity are SO overrated and if you overcultivate your soil there will be no nutrients left for your crops. let the snows come in && blanket you on occasion. they are their own kind of blank page (i swear to fuck sometimes i sound like some kind of ai generating bad proverbs but you knew what you were getting when you came to my asks i guess! i am unashamed)
tbh i have a modest art side-hustle and am working on painting a project that WILL take YEARS - and this whole summer, i have neglected that project in lieu of being a rocket fangirl because frankly my brain needed a break. guess what? my followers understand and it has not been a problem. because any fellow creative should know that the process takes time and is always in flux
(3) a lot of people will tell you - write a little every day. write even if it’s bad. you can always come back with fresh eyes later. I support these ideas in theory. i keep my writing && my sketchbooks where i can access them almost anytime, and even if it’s only for ten minutes, i do write something most days. but more than this - listen to your body and your brain and your heart. and for fanfiction especially - ONLY write when it’s fun. if you start writing from obligation instead of love, you will burn out faster, create less, and even resent this thing that should be an escape for you. (and your readers will feel it, even if they don’t know why). (also your readers - if they are good people - will understand this && support you) (and if they’re not good people, they don’t deserve your heart like that). if your body says take time off then TAKE TIME OFF. don’t let capitalism brainwash you into believing all your joys must entail consistent labor, that every good thing comes with a side of drudgery, or that you can’t stop something once you start it. they don’t. it doesn’t. you can. let yourself have a scrap of unfettered && unpressured happiness in this place. you deserve it, i fuckin swear that to you on my goddamn life.
(4) maybe im inadvertently repeating myself but please. be kind to yourself. let your community be kind to you too. we are supposed to take care of each other. give yourself grace && know we are on your side
okay wow i’m so sorry. fuck me that’s not what you were asking for but it is the best && most earnest && most true advice i can give you. “carve some time out every day” is nice and aspirational and maybe give it a try, but life is hard and don’t blame yourself if you can’t. let fanfiction be a force for joy in your days/nights, not a chore. nope im just saying the same shit over and over LOOK. i love you. you are good. life is short. have fun. that’s truly all & the most important things I have inside me, and I’m sorry for my limitations. for whatever that is worth
♡♡♡
