No one ever tells Obi-Wan that he is his Master's padawan.

Of course, for most people who had known Qui-Gon Jinn, telling someone else they resembled the the man would in fact be a thinly veiled insult. But still, Obi-Wan feels the absence of comparisons almost as strongly as he feels the absence of his Master.

There is no one for Obi-Wan to push against now, no strong presence at his side, ready to grab him by scruff and pull him back from another reckless stunt. It's an odd feeling. He has been set loose against his wishes. There is no one to his left and Anakin at his heels, but Anakin had needed, still needs, a strong, gentle figure for his prickly but sensitive heart. For even their worst bickering could not hold a candle to the scathing remarks he and Qui-Gon had shot at each other and Obi-Wan knows he cannot push and needle Anakin in the same way.

When Qui-Gon had been alive they had been an amusing, mirrored pair, the maverick and his rule-following padawan. Opposites clashing against each other, yet working together to complete the most difficult missions. Few saw that Qui-Gon's impertinence had indeed rubbed off on his padawan, cultivated from that small, angry initiate, because the only way to rebel against the rule-breaker had been to parrot the Council fastidiously. No one would ever get to see that again. Obi-Wan is one half of a mirrored pair trying to complete a routine on his own. What once was an impish, teasing compliance is now a betrayal of all his Master's values.

"How could Qui-Gon raise such a model Jedi?" He hears them say, "It's admirable that Master Kenobi was appointed to the Council despite his Master's maverick ways."

Padawan Kenobi would have yelled and kicked and screamed. Master Kenobi is serene. It should feel like an achievement. It feels like a disappointment.

Sometimes, Obi-Wan looks at the shape of the man he has moulded himself into, and aches to be his Master's padawan.

speaking as a fatherless son here i think both telemachus and diomedes got fatherless son behavior but its in different ways. like diomedes is old enough to remember his fathers death he probably wandered his household and fields looking for him because he knew something was missing but telemachus. telemachus always had that missing yknow? there was never a time from his childhood where he remembers his fathers voice or embrace and so its both less noticable and more isolating if that makes sense. diomedes could remember tydeus as a larger-than-life, blurry figure faded in his memory but telemachus had to rely on stories and himself to cobble an imagined man out of scraps. he literally does this in book one. do you think he tried to find odysseus in his face? in himself? and always coming up short?

it's such a shame that we get so little explanation about the actual mechanics of destiny, which is the entire premise of the show, bc it's so juicy. like what power does destiny hold when you rip away milton's lies and centuries of assumptions and traditions. esp bc despite raven signing herself as the evil queen in the real storybook of legends, when the snow white fairytale actually happens in dragon games she's playing one of the seven dwarves and her mother has reprised her role. like how much of that was because of the characters' actions and how much was destiny pulling on old, familiar threads. keeps me up at night.

a lot of this is probably just like, plot holes and writer hot potato but i like making it that deep, that's half of the fun. my personal interpretation is that fate is a wild thing that desires repetition and they developed the system of fairytale legacy bloodlines to keep those repetitions predictable and contained, instead of wreaking havoc whenever and wherever they please. 

which lends itself to some really juicy exploration of how legacy is a duty as much as it is a privilege, and how to be a princess or a witch or a hero or a dragon is to be the same thing in the end: the lamb destiny slaughters on the altar to sate the ever-ravenous narrative. to keep the flock safe. keep the unknown that prowls beyond the beaten path at bay. because if a there is always a mother who will be cruel, or a maiden who will fall into a sleep like death, or a child who will become a bird, isn’t it better to know who, and how, and when? isn’t better if it’s you, who has known your whole life that you must be eaten, be poisoned, be stripped of your humanity, rather than anybody else, who wasn’t raised to see it as an honour instead of a great and terrible injustice?

Imagine a scenario where after childe getting knocked out somehow he is proved innocent(ik it wont be the case but its for the sake of fluff so let me be blind to canon) And then foul legacy gets all clingy when reader takes care of him since he got injured and weakened from overusing his powers and getting knocked out literally mid transformation.

you being the person who goes to pick Childe up from prison after his innocence is proven- immediately you can tell that he's sulking, sitting on the floor with his arms crossed, but he perks up and jogs over to you once you enter, lacing his fingers with your own. he waits impatiently as you fill out the appropriate paperwork before practically dragging you away to somewhere away from everyone else, where it's just you and him. the minute you're away from other people he transforms into Foul Legacy and practically collapses into your embrace, tired and irritable from the lack of fighting coupled with his recent mood swings. but with you it's a little bit better, his tumultuous heart soothed by your mere presence as you tend to his injuries

normally Childe hates sitting around, preferring to go out and fight a few monsters to pass the time, but with you he's more than happy to spend hours inside the little house you rented in Fontaine, head on your lap and purring drowsily from your careful scritches. he's only like this with you, though- if anyone else, stranger or not, enters the room he gets agitated and growls at them. it's bad enough that he was denied a proper battle and is in a weakened state, but now people have the AUDACITY to take you away while you're caring for him?? ridiculous. he wants at least one claw touching you at all times and he's not settling for any less, wrapping his talons around your wrist or setting your hand on his head whenever you have to walk around the house for anything
