Oooh! A great Gavin Finney (Good Omens Director of Photography) interview with Helen Parkinson for the British Cinematographer! :)
HEAVEN SENT
Gifted a vast creative landscape from two of fantasyâs foremost authors to play with, Gavin Finney BSC reveals how he crafted the otherworldly visuals for Good Omens 2. Â
It started with a letter from beyond the grave. Following fantasy maestro Sir Terry Pratchettâs untimely death in 2015, Neil Gaiman decided he wouldnât adapt their co-authored 1990 novel, Good Omens, without his collaborator. That was, until he was presented with a posthumous missive from Pratchett asking him to do just that. Â
For Gaiman, it was a request that proved impossible to decline: he brought Good Omens season one to the screen in 2019, a careful homage to its source material. His writing, complemented by some inspired casting â David Tennant plays the irrepressible demon Crowley, alongside Michael Sheen as angel-slash-bookseller Aziraphale â and award-nominated visuals from Gavin Finney BSC, proved a potent combination for Prime Video viewers. Â
Aziraphaleâs bookshop was a set design triumph.
Season two departs from the faithful literary adaptation of its predecessor, instead imagining what comes next for Crowley and Aziraphale. Its storyline is built off a conversation that Pratchett and Gaiman shared during a jetlagged stay in Seattle for the 1989 World Fantasy Convention. Gaiman remembers: âThe idea was always that we would tell the story that Terry and I came up with in 1989 in Seattle, but that we would do that in our own time and in our own way. So, once Good Omens (S1) was done, all I knew was that I really, really wanted to tell the rest of the story.âÂ
Telling that story visually may sound daunting, but cinematographer Finney is no stranger to the wonderfully idiosyncratic world of Pratchett and co. As well as lensing Good Omensâ first outing, heâs also shot three other Pratchett stories â TV mini series  Hogfather  (2006), and TV mini-series The Colour of Magic (2008) and Going Postal (2010).Â
He relishes how the authors provide a vast creative landscape for him to riff off. âThe great thing about Pratchett and Gaiman is that thereâs no limit to what you can do creatively â everything is up for grabs,â he muses. âWhen we did the first Pratchett films and the first Good Omens, you couldnât start by saying, âOkay, what should this look like?â, because nothing looks like Pratchettâs world. So, youâre starting from scratch, with no references, and that starting point can be anything you want it to be.â Â
Season two saw the introduction of inside-outside sets for key locations including Aziraphaleâs bookshop.Â
From start to finishÂ
The sole DP on the six-episode season, Finney was pleased to team up again with returning director Douglas Mackinnon for the âimmensely complicatedâ shoot, and the pair began eight weeks of prep in summer 2021. A big change was the production shifting the main soho set from Bovington airfield, near London, up to Edinburghâs Pyramids Studio. Much of the action in Good Omens takes place on the Soho street thatâs home to Aziraphaleâs bookshop, which was built as an exterior set on the former airfield for season one. Season two, however, saw the introduction of inside-outside sets for key locations including the bookshop, record store and pub, to minimise reliance on green screen. Â
Finney brought over many elements of his season one lensing, especially Mackinnonâs emphasis on keeping the camera moving, which involved lots of prep and testing. âWe had a full-time Scorpio 45â for the whole shoot (run by key grip Tim Critchell and his team), two Steadicam operators (A camera â Ed Clark and B camera Martin Newstead) all the way through, and in any one day weâd often go from Steadicam, to crane, to dolly and back again,â he says. âThe camera is moving all the time, but itâs always driven by the story.âÂ
One key difference for season two, however, was the move to large-format visuals. Finney tested three large-format cameras and the winner was the Alexa LF (assisted by the Mini LF where conditions required), thanks to its look and flexibility. Â
The minisodes were shot on Cooke anamorphics, giving Finney the ideal balance of anamorphic-style glares and characteristics without too much veiling flare.
A more complex decision was finding the right lenses for the job. âYou hear about all these whizzy new lenses that are re-barrelled ancient Russian glass, but I needed at least two full sets for the main unit, then another set for the second unit, then maybe another set again for the VFX unit,â Finney explains. âIf you only have one set of this exotic glass, itâs no good for the show.âÂ
He tested a vast array of lenses before settling on Zeiss Supremes, supplied by rental house Media Dog. These ticked all the boxes for the project: âThey had a really nice look â theyâre a modern design but not over sharp, which can look a bit electronic and a bit much, especially with faces. When youâre dealing with a lot of wigs and prosthetics, we didnât want to go that sharp. The Supremes had a very nice colour palette and nice roll-off. Theyâre also much smaller than a lot of large-format glass, so that made it easy for Steadicam and remote cranes. They also provided additional metadata, which was very useful for the VFX department (VFX services were provided by Milk VFX).âÂ
The Supremes were paired with a selection of filters to characterise the showâs varied locations and characters. For example, Tiffen Bronze Glimmerglass were paired with bookshop scenes; Black Pro-Mist was used for Hell; and Black Diffusion FX for Crowleyâs present-day storyline. Â
Finney worked closely with the showâs DIT, Donald MacSween, and colourist, Gareth Spensley, to develop the look for the minisode.
Maximising minisodesÂ
Episodes two, three and four of season two each contain a âminisodeâ â an extended flashback set in Biblical times, 1820s Edinburgh and wartime London respectively. âDouglas wanted the minisodes to have very strong identities and look as different from the present day as possible, so weâd instantly know we were in a minisode and not the present day,â Finney explains. Â
One way to shape their distinctive look was through using Cooke anamorphic lenses. As Finney notes: âThe Cookes had the right balance of controllable, anamorphic-style flares and characteristics without having so much veiling flare that they would be hard to use on green screens. They just struck the right balance of aesthetics, VFX requirements and availability.â The show adopted the anamorphic aspect ratio (2:39.1), an unusual move for a comedy, but one which offered them more interesting framing opportunities.Â
Good Omens 2 was shot on the Alexa LF, paired with Zeiss Supremes for the present-day scenes.
The minisodes were also given various levels of film grain to set them apart from the present-day scenes. Finney first experimented with this with the showâs DIT Donald MacSween using the DaVinci Resolve plugin FilmConvert. Taking that as a starting point, the showâs colourist, Company 3âs Gareth Spensley, then crafted his own film emulation inspired by two-strip Technicolor. âThere was a lot of testing in the grade to find the look for these minisodes, with different amounts of grain and different types of either Technicolor three-strip or two-strip,â Finney recalls. âThen weâd add grain and film weave on that, then on top we added film flares. In the Biblical scenes we added more dust and motes in the air.â Â
Establishing the showâs lighting was a key part of Finneyâs testing process, working closely with gaffer Scott Napier and drawing upon PKE Lightingâs inventory. Good Omensâ new Scottish location posed an initial challenge: as the studio was in an old warehouse rather than being purpose-built for filming, its ceilings werenât as high as one would normally expect. This meant Finney and Napier had to work out a low-profile way of putting in a lot of fixtures.Â
Inside Crowleyâs treasured Bentley.
Their first task was to test various textiles, LED wash lights and different weight loadings, to establish what they were working with for the street exteriors. âWe worked out that what was needed were 12 SkyPanels per 20âx20â silk, so each one was a block of 20âx20â, then we scaled that up,â Finney recalls. âI wanted a very seamless sky, so I used full grid cloth which made it very, very smooth. That was important because weâve got lots of cars constantly driving around the set and the sloped windscreens reflect the ceiling. So we had to have seamless textiles â PKE had to source around 12,000 feet of textiles so that we could put them together, so the reflections in the windscreens of the cars just showed white gridcloth rather than lots of stage lights. We then drove the car around the set to test it from different angles.â Â
On the floor, they mostly worked with LEDs, providing huge energy and cost savings for the production. Asteraâs Titan Tubes came in handy for a fun flashback scene with John Hammâs character Gabriel. The DP remembers: â[Gabriel] was travelling down a 30-foot feather tunnel. We built a feather tunnel on the stage and wrapped it in a ring of Astera tubes, which were then programmed by dimmer op Jon Towler to animate, pulse and change different colours. Each part of Gabrielâs journey through his consciousness has a different colour to it.âÂ
Among the rigs built was a 20-strong Creamsource Vortex setup for the graveyard scene in the âBody Snatchersâ minisode, shot in Stirling. âWe took all the yokes off each light then put them on a custom-made aluminium rig so we could have them very close. We put them up on a big telehandler on a hill that gave me a soft mood light, which was very adjustable, windproof and rainproof.âÂ
Shooting on the VP stage for the birth of the universe scenes in episode one.
Skyâs the limitÂ
A lot of weather effects were done in camera â including lightning effects pulsed in that allowed both direct fork lightning and sheet lightning to spread down the streets. In the grade, colourist Spensley was also able to work his creative magic on the showâs skies. âGareth is a very artistic colourist â heâs a genius at changing skies,â Finney says. âOften in the UK you get these very boring, flat skies, but heâs got a library of dramatic skies that you can drop in. That would usually be done by VFX, but heâs got the ability to do it in Baselight, so a flat sky suddenly becomes a glorious sunset.âÂ
Finney emphasises that the grade is a very involved process for a series like Good Omens, especially with its VFX-heavy nature. âThis means VFX sequences often need extra work when it comes back into the timeline,â says the DP. âSo, we often add camera movement or camera shake to crank the image up a bit. Having a colourist like Gareth is central to a big show like Good Omens, to bring all the different visual elements together and to make it seamless. Itâs quite a long grade process but itâs worth its weight in gold.âÂ
Shooting in the VR cube for the blitz scenes .
Finney took advantage of virtual production (VP) technology for the driving scenes in Crowleyâs classic Bentley. The volume was built on their Scottish set: a 4x7m cube with a roof that could go up and down on motorised winches as needed. âWe pulled the cars in and out on skates â they went up on little jacks, which you could then rotate and move the car around within the volume,â he explains. âWe had two floating screens that we could move around to fill in and use as additional source lighting. Then we had generated plates â either CGI or real location plates âprojected 360Âş around the car. Sometimes we used the volume in-camera but if we needed to do more work downstream; weâd use a green screen frustum.â Universal Pixels collaborated with Finney to supply in-camera VFX expertise, crew and technical equipment for the in-vehicle driving sequences and rear projection for the crucial car shots.Â
John Hamm was suspended in the middle of this lighting rig and superimposed into the feather tunnel.
Interestingly, while shooting at a VP stage in Leith, the team also used the volume as a huge, animated light source in its own right â a new technique for Finney. âWe had the camera pointing away from [the volume] so the screen provided this massive, IMAX-sized light effect for the actors. We had a simple animation of the expanding universe projected onto the screen so the actors could actually see it, and it gave me the animated light back on the actors.â Â
Bringing such esteemed authorsâ imaginations to the screen is no small task, but Finney was proud to helped bring Crowley and Aziraphaleâs adventures to life once again. He adds: âWhatâs nice about Good Omens, especially when thereâs so much bad news in the world, is that itâs a good news show. Itâs a very funny show. Itâs also about good and evil, love and doing the right thing, people getting together irrespective of backgrounds. Itâs a hopeful message, and I think that thatâs what we all need.âÂ
Finney is no stranger to the idiosyncratic world of Sir Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman.

i was talking about how i like to have s1 trent get his brains kissed out (bc he deserves it) and also how if it's ted like. the earlier in the season it is the funnier it becomes. when you're not taking it too seriously. ANYWAY. and now i'm thinking about like. okay, so, ted charms trent pretty early. obviously. he wins him over in episode three, with the interview, but i think he was already at least a little bit reluctantly charmed by his second press conference in episode two. now, i've done plenty of scenarios where they meet pre-canon/ep1 for whatever reason, and i've done plenty where they end up kissing/become closer than in canon during s1. usually during or after episode three. however i am now thinking of what would happen if they somehow met, in a relatively in private, non-professional, one-on-one (or with only their kids, no other adults?) context, etc, between episode one and two, when trent's opinion of him is at the lowest it ever gets (and honestly, probably vice versa, too). and i am just... spinning that.
because, i mean. you know ted's gonna charm him. even if he isn't trying quite as hard without the interview giving him a direct reason, he's gonna charm him. just by being his kind, goofy self, he's gonna charm him, and without the interview to give context and reason to be talking professionally--assuming they are still talking and not avoiding each other, for whatever contrived reason--it's gonna put poor trent in such a snit. liking ted personally, so much, and not knowing how to handle it because as far as he's concerned, this is still someone who is putting the team and everyone who cares about it in a bad situation, but also, even after talking to the man for a few hours, it's already hard to believe he would do that. trent catching on to the fact ted lasso is smarter than he pretends, catching on to the fact that nice and kind and positive attitude is at least mostly if not completely and utterly sincere, and all that--just a little bit earlier. not enough to really make a difference in canon but. idk man. a) assuming this is a barely canon divergent thing it's just kind of fun to imagine that happening b) however back on my s1 trent gets kissed agenda i have literally no idea what circumstances could possibly arise to make that happen however i am CACKLING at the thought.
ANYWAY, back to the point: i just think there's something kind of compelling about that. between episodes one and two, when both of them have the lowest opinion of the other they will ever have, meeting in some innocuous way and being helplessly, unwillingly charmed. ted sees That One Reporter outside the press room only he's affectionately wrestling a frog hat onto a small child, grinning at her when she boops his nose, and can't help a smile at the reminder that even the coldest, rudest people are people, capable of kindness and goofiness, and he hadn't forgotten but it's still nice to see. trent, confronted with the full blast beam of The Lasso Effect right to the face and up close and outside of the press room, away from where he feels most confident, off duty and balance, sans notebook and pen, stumbling just a little into awkwardness, the edge of rudeness that comes from dislike that's tempered by some standard of british politeness and a hint of confusion and then quickly melted away entirely into utter bewilderment and oddly endeared charm, because what. trent crimm has no idea what to think of him. ted finds he actually likes trent, quite a bit--their conversation, however odd, had been entertaining, and despite their, uh, eventful, less-than-ideal first impression, ted may or may not have a favorite journo suddenly. because that sharp-cutting no-holds-barred journo from the press room is also strangely warm, and perpetually bewildered at the smallest kindnesses, and a good dad, nevermind that ted's heart is aching interacting with little kids like that.
idk man i'm just going in circles here i'm rotating and spinning because something something each seeing a better side to the other just a teensy bit earlier and it doesn't really change that much in the long run, unless it does; something something ted has only seen trent once, at his worst, being outright hurtful, and now here they are outside of that context, and trent has only reasons to think ted's incompetent, careless, greedy, an asshole, or some combination of the four, and yet here they are, and just. idk man! something
#also again if somehow we can wrestle this into them kissing that would be SUPER funny.#that would NOT happen in canonverse but like consider: it'd be funny#also pretend they're both already divorced in that scenario#ANYWAY#tedependent#gertspeak#ted x trent#tedtrent#ted/trent#i feel like i ahve more to add but im not sure what so maybe later

s2 episode 16 thoughts
damn. this was another episode i had to stretch out over TWO DAYS because a storm RUDELY interrupted me, but to say i was at the edge of my seat was an understatement. i was entirely invested. every beat was excellent. and most of my notes were asking the question: what is going on? so join me as i walk you through every single time i was confused (but in a good way)
so i read the synopsis and saw there was a mulder's sister mention........ interesting....
it opens with mulder monologuing about his quest in life to find the truth, and i'm into it, and then we see a helicopter... but it's HIM in the helicopter being medevaced?? so this monologue must be taking place at a later date? or is a sort of cosmic narration of his coma thoughts??
he is beat to hell and back and they are putting him in a TUB
scully bursts onto the scene and they try to be like "who are you" and she is NOT playing around, she's all "there's no time for this, a man is dying" queen.......
so he's still going on- either cosmically or in a sort of post-event narration- about "what happened on the ice" justifying his every belief. and also that he thinks that aliens are HERE and they are COLONIZING? which i feel is a bit of a jump. like aliens being a thing, okay, possible. colonizing earth? i mean, also possible, but like... don't they have better things to do?
they have him in the tub to prevent hypothermia but scully is yelling that THE COLD IS KEEPING HIM ALIVE and i'm wondering if she knows that because 1. it's obvious medical knowledge and she is simply out-doctoring these other doctors or 2. they're doing what you would normally do for a patient in these circumstances, but she knows there has been some sort of alien fuckery that needs to be addressed in a different manner
then, right as we hear that HIS HEART STOPPED, we get the little spooky song and the intro. my notes consisted of: HUH?? WHAT IS GOING ON??????
okay. jump back in time. two weeks earlier. yeah let's figure out what led up to this.
(i do get hooked when we jump right into the heart of the matter though. as a plot device i will be Sat for this convention sorry)
but my notes were still lingering on what i had just seen. first, that his face was broken as hell, and that makeup must have been unpleasant, and i can't imagine that being filmed being placed in a tub was much fun either
BUT, on the other hand, i think it's good that we're evening out the scales of each character almost dying. while he did get kidnapped in the s1 finale and almost die in the s2 premiere, scully's coma arc was a lot more dramatic, so it is good that it was his turn. we need to see them worried about each other in equal measure.
okay okay. back to the start of the episode. for real. two weeks before this whole ice bathing event, a ufo sort of thing crashed above a ship in the arctic. and the news is saying that a russian agent was rescued from a ship crash. because you can't just say it was a ufo.
cutscene to a women's health center in scranton. and my first thought was, please do not say we are gonna see some character come in with an alien pregnancy. and thankfully that is not where that went. because s2 is too early for that. work up to it a little bit, you know?
the doctor at the health center is watching the news, and he clearly recognizes the man they are shown being lifted from the crash. and he goes to run out the room.
oh? as soon as he escapes from the room.... he is being BEATEN by the dude he just saw on the tv. OH??? BIG NEEDLES???? foaming with green liquid??? the place is set on fire after that?? we have seen these needles with liquid used on aliens before....
dude, what's going on, i wrote in my notes... the girls are scared
okay, so here's what we have so far: three doctors who perform abortions have had their clinics set on fire, and their obituaries forwarded to mulder
(at this point, we see the credits which i'm used to ignoring, but this one has more names on it.... because DAVID wrote the story with MR. CARTER???? okayyyyy putting that yale degree to WORK!!!!!)
wait. we get visuals on the three newly deceased doctors. and they. all have the same face??? and no records on them at all.
they go to visit a suspect, who had a "have you seen this man" ad in his pocket for a local newspaper, so they go to that city and try to investigate
she thinks it's a setup because they have been given weirdly little information, and he thinks there are more doctors out there with the same face that need rescuing... lowkey agreeing with her but i know how these plot devices play out. so.
she's calling the number they gave her and serving looks on the phone, work, but a tip has been made that the next guy is in syracuse, so they're off on a new york road trip
an fbi agent is sent off to the scene, and we see the next same-faced doctor in syracuse, where he is talking with someone about "sharing the planet"... but. well. here's what my notes had to say:
"NOOOO MORE GOO... THE DOCTOR DISSOLVED AND THE BULLETS AREN'T DOING ANYTHING TO THE KILLER? BUT THE GAS IS KILLING THE AGENT... LIKE WE SAW IN THAT EPISODE WITH THE GUY WHO COULD GO UNDERWATER!!"
so we see the fbi agent is very dead, but then he comes right back on screen, and we are dealing with a shapeshifter!!!!! the dead guy has been placed in the trunk of a car with some funky markings on his face. using the likeness of the dead fbi agent, he tells our duo that there was nothing to see at the address they located. and the killer shapeshifts again, leaving me thinking about how cool being a shapeshifter would be.
cut to skinner cam, who has become something like a strange cousin to me. he is PISSED that mulder went on a side quest without his permission because an agent DIED but mulder is very confused because he talked to the agent and he was very much alive? (but it was actually the shapeshifter, of course) and for once mulder is too stunned to speak
scully is at hooooome checking her compuuuuter and she is wearing a flannel!!!!! yes casual wear let's hear it for comfortably scully!!! make some noise!!!
despite looking very comfortable she is not pleased because someone sent her a disturbing email, and she wants to know if mulder got one, too- it's another of the same faced doctors, and this one is in washington. right in their area!
on his way over to her apartment, we run into.... A NEW CHARACTER???? his name is ambrose chapel, and he is allegedly from the CIA... do we trust him? what was he doing outside her place.
they go into scully's apartment and i'm like, dude, we couldn't have done this in a place that wasn't her apartment? but well. why not welcome a strange man in there?
he's going on about the soviet union and the genetic anomalies from twins being studied and turned into clones, who will be used to sabotage the medical system. and all the clones- who are called gregors- are being systematically eliminated in exchange for the knowledge that created them.
pause. no i actually don't want to analyze the alleged soviet gregors who will somehow poison the medical system. i'm looking at scully's apartment. she must have moved back into DC after being reassigned from the academy. so is this the same apartment as her first one? i can't tell. this gregor stuff is complicated and i'm admiring the art on her walls- it looks like little watercolors or postcards of beach scenes. that's so sweet.
so it turns out that this ambrose chapel is the one that placed the ad they had called earlier, and he says the gregors are trying to reach mulder, and they need to work together to protect them, i guess. weird cross department alliance. i don't buy it.
scully is sitting on her couch looked confused as hell. me too girl i'm just trying to figure out if this is the same apartment from s1. sorry to the gregors.
we next see someone in a room full of green liquid that looks like those big tanks of lemonade at the mall. it appears to be a gregor. i imagine that this is NOT lemonade and is instead sustaining some sort of alien creature....
but now we're back with our agents and ambrose chapel visiting a new gregor in a hotel. when gregor opens the door, he is really scared of ambrose. and there's also another lady in the room with him who is hiding. things were going real rapid fire at this point. my notes were just a series of questions, or statements followed by question marks to express disbelief:
"gregor JUMPS OUT of the window but somehow GETS BACK UP? and now he's running away??? so we get a chase scene. WHO IS THIS AMBROSE FELLOW??? and why is there a lady in the room hiding behind a curtain???"
mulder is going after gregor on foot when he gets HIT BY A CAR????
but he says he's fine and tells scully to keep going. ambrose is stalking this gregor like a cat, and gregor has no choice but to climb something to escape.
but noooo!!! the shapeshifter is back!!! the shapeshifter WAS ambrose?? the gregors must be able to sense who the shapeshifter is.
"ambrose chapel" tells scully that the gregor got away, but she steps in some familiar green goo that indicates things are not looking great for our gregor, and he is likely gone. too soon.
"how are you feeling?", scully asks mulder. "like i should have taken the crosswalk", he says LMAOOOOOO
scully is pointing out the obvious: this ambrose fellow is sus as hell. "what happened to trust no one?" "oh, i changed it to trust everyone, i didn't tell you?" LMAOOOO this man cannot stop running his damn mouth
he's all, i ran a background check on ambrose, and he is totally clear, he's been working at the CIA for 17 years! and she asks so WHY, if he has been working here for 17 years, does he need OUR HELP? and also the gregor was CLEARLY running from him, and not us!
he accuses her of being paranoid which 1. kettle calling pot black and 2. rude as hell??? she is speaking total sense here
OHHHH THE GIRLS ARE FIGHTING!!! and again she is NOT wrong.
"you'll pursue a case at the expense of everything, to the point of insanity, and expect me to follow you. there has to be somewhere to draw the line" and is she wrong??? she does not get paid enough to deal with all of this, and he's endangering them... and he seems to just assume that she will do anything he asks of her.........
"if the pursuit of this case seems like insanity to you, feel free to step away from it" he says, in a way that is very judgemental and accusatory and not at all understanding of how wild this whole thing sounds. and i'm taken back to his opening monologue, how he was going on about the pursuit of the truth interfering with his relationships... exhibit a!!
she points out that SOMEONE DIED and he deflects by saying "those are the risks you take! you either accept them or you don't"
(now, when signing up for the fbi, i do not actually think "murder by alien" was on the risk of disclaimers signed so.)
((ugh he's pissing me off here. i get it, the bloodhound need to sniff out the truth without regard for anything else, let alone something as simple as safety. but could we maybe LISTEN to our partner???? just once????? GRRRR))
(also they keep calling ambrose chapel by his last name and its making me think of chappell roan, my beloved above all else. this is not very h-o-t t-o g-o of mulder to be ignoring scully's concerns)
despite the high levels of tension and voices being raised, she pulls out her shoe that had stepped in the alien gunk and shows him how it has been burned through. his eyes light up in fascination and he says we need to go get this tested now and also can you prepare an autopsy bay? we can't figure out how the agent in the syracuse situation died. and then HER EYES expand with childlike wonder and everything is momentarily right with the world again.
he comes down to the autopsy- perhaps as a form of apology for his earlier rudeness- and watches while she goes over the stuff. and everything looks normal except his blood was clotted somehow??
"skinner's gonna wanna know why you didn't file your report... what are you gonna say?" "just the truth. i got hit by a car!" LMAOOOO okay honesty king
(it was at this point i lost power and had to spend the rest of the night wondering what the hell was going to happen next until i could finish it the next day.... i truly deserve compensation for this happening twice in one week. what sick and twisted force is out there trying to keep me from running this blog, huh?!?!?)
okay we're back. mulder is going into skinner's office.
he must have came up with a report real fast, because he goes to give it to skinner, and he says he didn't call him to talk about that:
"your father has been trying to reach you. there's been a family emergency"
(proving once again that skinner is serving the same functions as a high school prinicpal)
he calls his dad, and his mom picks up... and he asks why she was at "dad's place".... MULDER CHILD OF DIVORCE CONFIRMED?!?!?
scully stops by his office with an address she found to go on, and he says you go there, and walks out. she asks where he's going and he said "home" and did not elaborate. and said nothing else.
(this pissed me off because RIGHT before scully was kidnapped, he had similarly made an abrupt exit on here and i thought that he would stop doing that and start saying a proper goodbye but no. he has not learned. ALWAYS say goodbye and tell your friends you love them when you leave- it is NOT negotiable!!!!!!)
she drives to the address and it is... very creepy... it's the room full of tanks that aren't lemonade but they look like it!!!!! and ambrose chapel (NOT to be confused with chappell roan!) is pushing the tanks over and stepping on the chunks of stuff that comes out of them... very gross...
scully calls mulder and asks him to please call back because she thinks she is in danger, and someone is following her, sitting outside her apartment, BUT HE IS BUSY!!! WITH FAMILY EMERGENCY!!! which she does not KNOW ABOUT because he DID NOT TELL HER!!!!
he arrives at his dad's place and i am not shocked that man is either from or has spent a significant amount of time in massachusetts, specifically martha's vineyard. like yeah. this isn't shocking to me. it just makes sense.
(although if that were the case, he'd be MUCH more obnoxious about the patriots and the red sox, and before he mentioned going to dodger's stadium and having a shirt from the new york knicks.... so what's the truth?!)
his dad is on the porch and is being kinda weird- do BOTH our agents have a strained relationship with their fathers? and his dad shakes his hand and it's Weird. but he sees his mom is talking to someone inside.
SISTER REVEAL??? it was the girl who was inside the house when the agents and ambrose showed up to find the gregor! AND i think it's the same girl that gave them the map back in binghamton... but i could be wrong?
in the morning he gives his mom a kiss and tucks her into bed. aww.
then he walks outside and it looks like he is either gonna start hyperventilating or crying, but his "sister" is on the porch and he goes over to talk to her- what do you say after 22 years?
she says she was returned around age 8 or 9, and placed with a family, and that she couldn't remember anything until doing some hypnotherapy a few years back, and the memories of her family and all of the horrific testing returned.
(and sorry i'm not buying it. idk it just doesn't seem to add up!!!!!)
but he's hugging her so it's probably best he can't hear me say that. my guess is someone is trying to distract him from the truth.
but, she already knows what is going on... she says a bounty hunter is after her "father" (which confuses mulder because... same dad?) but she corrects herself and says the man who adopted her is one of the gregors- and he is an alien- and they'll be after her soon, i guess for maybe knowing the truth?
at this point in the episode we begin a series of phone calls in which both parties repeatedly miss each other's calls and i was like whyyyyy. whyyyyy.
anyway scully is leaving. she's in a jacket and she's taking the bus and i love her so bad. she says where she is going on the phone but i assumed she was lying because it was in public.
and mulder's "sister" is saying that the hit man can disguise himself as anyone. so he's trying to reach scully, who is back at the site of the lemonade-looking alien tanks.
she pulls a lock picker out of her fanny pack because that is my baby.
and when she goes in all the alien stuff is smashed. she's looking at the alien meat on the floor. and she picks something up and. OH FUCK, i yelled at my screen. i hit pause SO FAST. she was holding a PULSATING ALIEN EMBRYO. but some guy is in the back!!!!!
she tries to get him to stop whatever it is he's doing but he says "you cannot hurt us" and then all of the remaining gregors with the same face are in the room!!!!!!
so she puts them in maximum security but the windows on the cars weren't blacked out and i feel that they should have been. and just as i make note of this we see the shapeshifter hit man... NO!!!
scully ACTUALLY goes to the motel she said she would, and they miss calls 2 MORE TIMES... i will start biting!!!!!
and back where the gregors are being watched, the guards switch, and a new fellow walks in... and i guessed it was the shapeshifter, and yes indeed it was, he busts out his needle that turns the gregors to acid....
there's a knock at scully's door at like 11:30 at night and she goes and gets it and it's mulder!!! where were you, she asks, when her phone starts ringing...
and who is on the other end but... mulder.........
no.... shapeshifter......
TO BE CONTINUED?????
ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
this is so unfair because had the power NOT been knocked off i could have seen this episode yesterday and then part 2 tonight. but now i shall be forced to wait until TOMORROW to see what happens. soooooo evil.
i should have known we were gonna get another two-parter when we were halfway through the episode and still no mention was made of any ice. you know, the ice we began with?
anyway. i really really liked this episode. the pacing was great, as much as i complained about their argument i thought it was excellent conflict, we learn more about mulder, but i do not believe that is really his sister. sorry. and if it IS her i'll be forced to issue a formal apology but until then i remain doubtful. has anyone considered doing a blood test. this predates 23 and me.
aughhh i need to know how he ends up an ice cube!!!!!! and i will have to wait until tomorrow. and while i technically COULD watch part 2 tonight i want to have a real good bit of time dedicated to breaking it down
(i saw the episode after the next one is about zoo animals and i was like hell yeah this is what i love about this show. we get some heartbreaking alien infiltration content and then some possessed elephants)
((WAIT. ARE THEY REALLY GONNA GET TO GO TO THE ZOO??? LIKE I'VE ALWAYS DREAMED OF?? but it's a zoo of ANGRY animals so it's not even going to be relaxing??? this is SOOOOO unfair...))
#lowkey put him on for writing some more episodes... let the man cook#much to think about#scully in her flannel at her apartment with the beach scenes on the wall...#you can see why mulder yelling at her would make me so angry!!!#man this write up took me extra long because i had SO MUCH to say!!! that's what a good episode will do to ya#i worry sometimes i go a bit TOO play-by-play on these things. but i guess i make the rules here huh.#anyway. we are having fun. i am having fun. and today there were no storms so this was an improvement!!!#juni's x files liveblog#2x16#the x files#txf

@fullysowerewolf ooh thank you for inquiring I've been waiting to talk about this! imo the show's decline post s2 comes down to three main points:
the uber-graphic violence and sex has been reduced to shock value while also becoming the show's *only* selling point. look I'm not a prudish person by any means, especially when it comes to fiction. I love horror stuff, I see why people are sometimes uncomfortable with sex scenes but I don't generally have an issue with them, I usually tend to veer towards shows that aren't held back by FFC standards because I find that creators being able to do and show whatever they want results in generally better and more realistic storytelling. that being said, there's a pretty fine line between "this has a purpose and a reason for being in the story" and "ooh look how shocking we are!" s1 of the boys was a rare bird in that it was chock full of said graphic scenes, and yet every single one of them served a purpose. transluscent's death? robin getting killed? popclaw's landlord fiasco? it was a staple of the show but it was never unnecessary, and the way the writers in s1 were able to blend it into the show was so so cool and unique, because it's hard to pull of that level of gruesomeness without seeming like it just exists for shock value, let alone so frequently. but then in season 3, we start getting these scenes cranked up, and none of them have any real reason for being there other than shock value. why did I have to sit through 15 minutes of ant-man's dicksplosion in the premiere? what was the point of dedicating an entire episode (in an 8 episode season that already had too much going on as it was) to a supe orgy gone wrong? why'd we need a full-on view of jensen ackles bashing a guy's head in? it's like they couldn't figure out a way of incorporating their specific brand of bizzare superhero violence into the actual plot so they just... threw it in there anyways while everything else floundered. and of course they have to do that because they've made it the show's selling point. they took the fact that the over-the-top gore in s1 stood out to audiences and ran with it. every single ad I see for the boys now is something along the lines of "oops we can't tell you what this is about because its so graphic! our bloodiest season yet! we can't even show you a promo!" there's no focus on the plot, there's apparently the perception that nobody wants to watch the show for anything but the violence, and it's disappointing because this was one of the major things they initially improved upon in adapting the comics.
The actual plot is going nowhere. to be fair I think this could've been predicted in season 2, but it really hits hard in season 3 because you start to see the pattern every season presents us with: the boys are given an opportunity to go after homelander and take down vought. they carry out a number of side missions and when they're finally about to make some leeway in their ultimate goal, they get overpowered (but not killed! because that would require committing to a storyline that might result in some actual plot development) and sent back to square 1. rinse and repeat. there aren't really any consequences, there are no plot points that lead to irreversible change for any of the characters, and any that do initially seem irreversible are (surprise!) eventually reversed. season 3 this is most apparent because so far it's been the season with the most potential gone wrong. imagine the season we would've gotten if the boys had had to grapple with taking V as a permanent fixture rather than something conveniently temporary. imagine the fallout of both maeve and a-train dying. imagine how fucking cool it would've been to watch homelander lose his powers and the grapple with being human for the first time while also trying to conceal it to the public. imagine the parallels to that arc we could've gotten if kimiko's loss of her powers had been permanent. not only were all of those things potentially there, they were explicitly set up and then just.... not realized because we needed to circle back around to square 1. that's not even mentioning the fact that a series that is so hell-bent on advertising itself as The Most Gory Show On TV Today only actually kills off characters whose absence from the show will have the least amount of fallout, which wouldn't necessarily be an issue if it wasn't constantly setting up other, more major characters to die and then backing out at the last second because, again, we can't significantly alter the plot in any way. why is the deep still here? why is a-train magically revived in the hospital when his death was such a perfect conclusion to his arc? why do a weird fakeout with stormfront's death only to bring her back and then kill her off camera? why bother with maeve's sacrifice when she literally shows up fine a scene later?
The subtlety from seasons past is just. gone. there's a reason conservative homelander fanboy nutjobs only started now realizing that the show is making fun of them and it's not because they suddenly got smarter. the rest of us get that homelander is a stand in for trump. we get that he represents extreme american nationalism. we get it, we don't need a thinly veiled MAGA rally or a whole scene with homelander going on a "build the wall" tirade on fox news lite to spell it out for us. obviously the show has always taken on current issues, but it used to do it within the context of the show and characters. so much of season 3 felt lazy â subplots ripped from the headlines and repackaged with a few name changes so viewers could know exactly what real-world equivalent we're talking about. it's tiring, I feel like I'm watching a rehashing of the news, and it feels like they're treating the audience as if they've suddenly lost the ability to think for themselves or read between the lines.
and then yeah, like I mentioned in the original post, there's so much irony just in the fact that the boys is distributed by the irl equivalent of vought and that it's franchising itself when one of the initial selling points of the show was that it was the anti-marvel.
and the whole thing is such a shame too bc the boys used to be one of my favorite shows! I'll still probably watch season 4 just to see if it really does go more downhill, but so far I'm not loving the chances.
the way the boys started as a sharp, darkly funny show criticizing the shiny plastic soullessness of modern marvel era superhero movies and our tendency to elevate celebrities to godlike status and has now turned into a multimedia franchise churning out spinoffs while the original show devolves into a one-dimensional gorefest where the main selling point in every single advertisement seems to be "it's so graphic we can't even tell you what it's about đ¤Ş" leaving the actual story to run around in circles while plot threads are dropped left and right, no real meaningful narrative development is achieved, and it shrugs off every ounce of nuance it ever had is so like. deeply ironic.

Bucky Barnes Imagines - Some Sunny Day Part 1
AN: My Marvel obsession has been lying dormant since Endgame finished but Wandavision and Falcon and Winter Soldier have brought it back to life.... This is going to be a series based off the show. Kind of like my âOh Dearâ fic, itâs the series with an added characters and story lines.Â
Summary: Before the Blip, you and Bucky were close. After you both returning and Tonyâs funeral, you decided to go back to your home town to spend time with your family. When duty calls, you return. Â
In this chapter: You reunite with Sam and Bucky (Based on S1 EP2)
Pairing(s): Bucky Barnes x Fem!Reader, Sam Wilson x Platonic!Reader
Word Count: 6,883
Warnings: Spoilers for episode 2, strong language, violence.Â
You and Bucky had always been close.Â
You were close with Steve before Bucky joined the avengers and you fought on Steveâs side during the small civil war between the avengers.Â
Steve was your best friend and Sam always knew how to make you smile but there was something about Bucky that was different to the rest of the avengers.Â
You had spent some time in Wakanda with Bucky at Steveâs request and you two had always fought side by side and it crushed Steve when you both taken during the blip and he wasn't.Â
When you returned, you were thrust back into battle almost immediately. The final fight against Thanos which resulted in you losing Tony and then Steve.Â
Nothing seemed to matter except the fact you had been gone for 5 whole years. You had missed 5 whole years with your friends and family. They had changed whilst you were gone and you came back the same as you left.
When Steve returned the infinity stones, he hadnât given you warning that he wasnât coming back the same age he was going in but he had warned Bucky. They had spoken about it before apparently and after everything, you felt kind of betrayed.Â
You knew youâd never understand Steveâs choice but it was his choice. You were just upset Bucky didnât warn you.Â
You returned to your home town after that day.Â
You returned to find some people had changed and some hadnât but you knew you wanted to be around and spend time with them.Â
After all the years fighting for the avengers and only calling every once in a blue moon. It seemed to finally dawn on you that you should spend time with them whilst you still could.Â
However, that only lasted around 6 months before you found yourself answering a phone call from Sam.Â
You were at a birthday party for one of your old school friendâs daughters when you felt your phone go off.Â
You put down one of the little girls who had be asking you a hundred questions about being apart of the avengers and excused yourself from the party.Â
âTell me why I got an awful feeling when I saw your caller ID come up on my phone.â You answered, folding your free hand under your arm as you leant against the wall.Â
âItâs cause your subconscious is reminding you about that one time you said no when I asked you out on a date and you regret that now.â  Samâs voice instantly made you crack a smile.Â
âOr maybe itâs because every time I get a call from you itâs to do with the world ending or something worse.â You shot back.Â
âItâs good to hear your voice too.â Sam chuckled at your comment before he had responded.Â
âSo whatâs going on? I havenât heard much from you in months.â You asked.Â
âThatâs around the time you up and left us for the old way of living.â Sam reminded you that you were the one that decided to go cold agent and return home.Â
âThere isnât anything wrong with a little quiet.â You told him as you looked back through the window to the children that were the opposite of quiet.Â
âNo there isn't.â Sam agreed, âHowever, I got a situation here at the moment that I could really use your help with.â
âI guess itâs a bit bigger than the usual military op or you wouldnât be calling?â You frowned. You were in the loop enough to know Sam had been apart of the airforce these past 6 months and had been taking part in frequent missions but nothing that concerned you.Â
âIâm sending you over the details now. Iâd appreciate it if you could come.â Sam sent you through a file and you pulled your phone away from your ear to open it.Â
âYou donât need to convince me, Sam. Iâll be there since I know you wouldnât ask unless it was serious.â You answered honestly.Â
âGuess Iâll be seeing you soon then.â You could practically hear Samâs smirk through the phone.
âDepends how quick I can get a bag together and your jet can get me to you.â You told him as you picked up your jacket from the coat rack.Â
âWell itâs no Red Wing but itâs pretty fast.â Sam stated. âOh and (Y/n)... You havenât seen the news in the past hour or so, have you?â
âNo? Why?â You frowned at the hesitation in Samâs voice.Â
âJust... take a look.â Sam told you before you ended the call.Â
You opened up the news on your phone and what you saw made your mouth go dry and your stomach drop.Â
âJOHN WALKER; NEW CAPTAIN AMERICAâ
You felt an anger rise up in you as you watched the wannabe waltz onto screen with Steveâs shield in his paws.Â
When Sam gave up the shield, you didnât know how to feel at first but now... now you werenât surprised Sam didnât elaborate on what he wanted you to see.
You said your apologies and your goodbyes pretty swiftly and you had already stashed an emergency bag ready to go under your bed so you were soon on your way.
It didnât take terribly long to get to the air base where Sam was waiting for you.Â
âWho the hell is this guy and why is he calling himself the new Captain America?âÂ
âNice to see you too.â Sam wasnât surprised at the attitude once you stepped off the plane.
âSam, first you call me up to help deal with this wannabe terrorist group and now I just find out that Steveâs shield, which you gave up, is being held by some wannabe superhero.â You dumped your bag on the floor as you closed the gap between you and Sam.
âTrust me, Iâm not happy about it either and I knew nothin about it but we have bigger fish to fry right now so can we cut the dramatic and get to actually saying hello?â Sam stared down at you with his hands on his hips.Â
You sighed and gave in.
You wrapped your arms around the man and hugged him warmly.
âIâm sorry. I justâââ
ââI know.â Sam didnât need your apology. He understood how you were feeling. You both loved Steve so much.Â
âMiss (Y/N)(Y/L/N), itâs a pleasure to meet you.â A voice brought your attention away from Sam to a man approaching you both.Â
â(Y/n), Torres. Torres, (Y/n).â Sam introduced you to the uniformed man and you shook his hand politely.Â
âNice to meet you.â You werenât sure if you had gotten used to the way most civilians looked at you after you became apart of the avengers. When you joined you didnât realise becoming famous would be apart of the gig.
âIâm sorry to interrupt but Miss (Y/L/N) has to come with me to get logged into the clearance system and sort out a couple things.â Torres pointed over his shoulder as he explained.Â
âAnd by that he means sign an autograph for his kid sister.â Sam teased the man.Â
âWhat?â Torresâ cheeks tinged pink. âNo!â
âItâs alright. Lead the way.â You picked up your bag and sent a quick smile to Sam before turning back to Torres. âOh and you can call me (Y/n) by the way.âÂ
It didnât take too long for Torres to fill you in on Samâs plan for the mission as he logged in a few details so you could have clearance around the airbase.Â
You did end up signing an autograph after a little tiptoeing around the question and then by the time you walked back out into the open you spotted someone you hadnât expected to see.Â
It was Bucky.Â
âLooking good for a senior citizen.â You spoke up as you approached Sam and Bucky.Â
Bucky had his back to you but the sound of your voice soon paused his conversation with Sam and he spun around.Â
âHey Buck.â You smiled but you couldnât help but feel slightly nervous. âLong time no see.âÂ
â(Y/n).â Bucky stepped forward and wrapped his arms around you.Â
You chuckled at his tight embrace but hugged him back just as tight all the same.Â
âYou, uh, you look good.â Bucky cleared his throat as he pulled away from you.Â
âIf youâll excuse us, Casanova, we got places to be.â Sam tried to pull you away from Bucky but Bucky only followed.Â
âIâm coming with you.â Bucky announced.Â
âNo, youâre not!â Sam argued.Â
You hadnât missed the menâs bickering...
In spite of Samâs protest, Bucky ended up on the flight anyway.Â
âSo howâs it been away from the Avengers?â Bucky asked you as you both prepared for the mission.
Sam was up with Torres in the cockpit so you and Bucky were alone for the first time since you saw each other.
âItâs been okay. Spending time at home. Doing non-hero regular folk stuff.â You chuckled weakly as you pulled off your sweater. Buckyâs eyes fell to your chest as you had only wore a vest underneath. You felt your cheeks burn as you pretended not to notice.
âUh, same.â Bucky cleared his throat before he spoke.. âBeen strange without you around.â
âBuck, you know I needed time away from everything. From Sam, from you... After Steve, I...â You let your words drop away.Â
There was a short silence before Bucky decided to change the subject.
âIâve been seeing a therapist. Court mandated. Sheâs got me doing this whole redemption thing. Contacting people in my past. Making things right.âÂ
âAnd howâs that going for you?â You couldnât help but smirk slightly at the idea of Bucky forcing himself to face his past at the request of a therapist.Â
âWell I have three rules Iâm meant to stick to and letâs say Iâm not exactly following them closely.â Bucky admitted as he folded his hoodie.
âDoes your therapist know that?â You cocked an eyebrow at the man with a light amused expression.
âWhat do you think.â Bucky smirked back at you.
âBe careful. I might tell on you.â You sighed playfully.Â
âYouâre actually on the list.â Bucky suddenly confessed. âI wanted to make things right after...â Bucky paused for a moment. â...After Steve. I should have warned you. Should have told you the truth.âÂ
âBucky.â You stopped him. âItâs okay. Steve made a choice and he chose to talk to you about it. Youâre his best friend and the only other person on the team who couldâve really understood why he did what he did. Iâm not holding it against you.âÂ
âIâm still sorry.â Bucky looked you in the eyes as he spoke, âYou were with him for so long when I wasnât around. You shouldâve got a real warning.âÂ
âThanks Buck.â You pressed your lips into a brief sad smile before looking down at your boots.Â
âIâve really missed you, (Y/n).â Bucky uttered.Â
âI really missed you too.â You stopped tying your lace to look up at the man.Â
His short hair had really revealed his face and you couldnât help but notice every part of it. The lines by his eyes when he smiled, the curve of his lips, the shadow that was just coming on.
You straightened up and stepped towards the man.Â
âI like the new haircut by the way.â You reached up and let your fingers brush the top of his forehead. âMakes you look almost like a civilian.âÂ
Bucky couldnât help but feel his body tense under your touch.Â
âYou look tired though.â You let your hand drop down to his cheek. âNot been sleeping well?â
Bucky forced himself to move away from your touch.
âBad dreams.â Bucky murmured.Â
âI figured therapy might have been helping you with those.â You frowned, âI remember sharing wake up duty with Steve like it was yesterday.â
âEvery time it was your turn youâd make hot coco.â Bucky reminded you. It brought back images of you and Bucky sat in a small kitchen drinking hot chocolate that you had made despite Buckyâs insisting that he didnât want any.Â
âSeems like a lifetime ago.â You smiled but the memories only made you feel dismal. It seemed those were simpler times. Steve was still around, at least.Â
Bucky handed you your jacket in the silence and you took it gratefully.
âIâm not interrupting something, am I?â Sam said rather loudly as he climbed down the ladder.Â
âNo, we were just getting ready which is what you should be doing.â You picked up Samâs bag and tossed it to him which he caught effortlessly. âIâm going to check a few things with Torres. Try not to kill each other whilst Iâm gone.âÂ
Bucky watched you climb the ladder up to the cockpit and Sam watched Bucky.Â
âIâll never understand why you wonât just shoot your shot with the girl.â Sam shook his head as he opened his duffle.Â
âShoot my what?â Bucky glared over at the man with confusion clear in his eyes.Â
âYour shot, man. (Y/n) has clearly been in love with you since Steve dragged your ass onto the team. What she sees in you compared to this, Iâll never understand but she clearly sees something.â Sam had gestured to himself when he spoke but Bucky just rolled his eyes.Â
âMaybe instead of talking about (Y/n), you should actually tell me what the plan is?â Bucky suggested as he zipped up his jacket securely.Â
âHow about you stop avoiding your feelings?â Sam retorted which made Bucky shut up and sit down.Â
âIâm not avoiding my feelings.â Bucky grumbled as he glared at the man.Â
âYeah right.â Sam scoffed, shaking his head as he started to change.Â
You didnât return to the boys until you were approaching the drop off.Â
â(Y/n), youâll be out first.â Torres explained as you put in your ear piece, trying your hardest to ignore Bucky and Sam starring daggers at each other behind you.Â
âGreat. See you on the ground, fellas.â You jumped from the aircraft just as you heard Bucky ask what the plan was in your earpiece.Â
You had to jump earlier then the men since you were approaching the building from another angle but that didnât mean you couldnât hear them bicker still on the aircraft.Â
When you reached the warehouse, you remained hidden in the trees. You watched several people start to load two trucks with large boxes.Â
âYouâre doing the staring thing again. Theyâre in there.â You heard Samâs voice in your earpiece. He must have been talking to Bucky inside the warehouse.Â
âWhereâs the guy?â Bucky asked.Â
âIÂ donât know. I think theyâre smuggling weapons, though.â Sam responded before you could.Â
âWell, I think you could be right.â Bucky agreed with a passive aggressive tone. âBut thereâs only one way to find out. I see a clear path. I say we take it.â
âWeâre not assassins.â Sam argued with Bucky.
âIâll see you inside or not.â Bucky must've walked away from what you could hear.Â
âHey, come on, man. Iâm just messing with you! Come back.â You could practically see Samâs smile in your head.
âIf you guys are done, I have a visual on the targets. Theyâre loading up two red trucks.â
âWeâre moving up now.â Bucky replied to you.Â
âLook at you. All stealthy.â Sam was teasing him. âA little time in Wakanda and you come out White Panther.â
âItâs actually White Wolf.â Bucky corrected him and Samâs reaction almost made you laugh out loud.Â
You tried to move closer to the trucks to see exactly what was going inside but it was risky with the group constantly checking around them.Â
âAll right, Iâm inside. Therefore, way ahead of you. Itâs not great, but very doable.â Buckyâs voice came up again. âHello. How are you?â Bucky sounded irritated. Sam must've snuck up on him.Â
âGood. What did I miss? Nothing.â Sam whispered back.Â
âAll right, letâs go.â Bucky commanded but Sam stopped him.Â
âNo, wait.â
âI got a vibranium arm. I can take them.â Bucky held up his arm as he fought against Samâs halt.
âAnd I can fly. Who gives a shit?â Sam muttered. âWait. I want to see where theyâre going.â
âGuys I may not be in the same location as you but I can hear everything youâre saying so quick the arguingâ You whispered lowly as you kept your eyes trained on the trucks.Â
You tried to zone out the boys bickering as you crept forward. A crashing noise from inside the warehouse made you jump back and hide as the flash smasher members all stopped and looked.Â
âBe careful.â You hissed at the both of them.
âIt wasnât my fault.â Bucky tried to defend himself but frankly you didn't care. The trucks were staring to close up and their engines switched on.Â
You watched the people pile into the trucks and you dived over, taking hold of the backdoors and clinging on.Â
âThey have a hostage.â Sam told you as the trucks drove off with you attached.Â
âThen get moving.â You commanded. You pulled open the door you were hanging to and opened it.Â
âNo sight of a hostage in here.â You informed Sam as you looked around. âJust boxes of vaccines.âÂ
âI found her.â Bucky must've gotten inside the other truck. âHi. You okay?â Buckyâs voice was then followed by a crashing sound.Â
However, you had your own problems...Â
You heard a loud bang behind you and you turned to see two men at the end of the truck. They both had masks on.Â
âCute masks.â You taunted them before they charged at you.Â
You threw three knives at them, two managed to hit one of the men in the thigh and chest but the second man had knocked the third one away.Â
You went to attack the uninjured one first as he drew closer, you punched him but he was strong. He didnât even flinch.Â
You felt a small panic in your chest as you started to fight. He was taking moves that would usually floor someone like he was being attacked by a pillow.Â
You managed to get him to the ground by wrapping your thighs around his neck and flipping him over you before you threw another knife at the injured soldier. He seemed to retreat, climbing out of the truck and onto the roof.Â
âCould use some back up, Sam!â You called out as you followed.Â
You climbed up onto the roof and the first soldier chased after you. The injured one grabbed hold of Bucky along with a third guy and so you were left with the big one.Â
You heard Redwing shooting at the roof before you saw it but a redheaded female smashed it in half like it was but a plastic toy.Â
With that, Sam finally swooped in and started throwing punches.Â
He was thrown to the other roof as you continued to fight your own battle. You were getting tired and his punches seemed to only be getting stronger and more painful each time.
You pulled out another knife but he grabbed your wrist and squeezed. You couldnât help but cry out at the pressure, you dropped it before he could break your wrist.Â
Then suddenly a helicopter appeared from what seemed like nowhere. Capâs shield bounced off one of Samâs attackers as two new bodies joined the fight.Â
The distraction allowed you to kick your attacker off the truck and start to help Bucky.Â
âSam, John Walker; Captain America.âÂ
âLemar Hoskins.â
âLooks like you guys could use some help.â Walker and his sidekick introduced themselves.Â
A surge of rage from the introduction of âCaptain Americaâ helped you regain some adrenaline. You turned and started to fight once again.Â
You let yourself become distracted as Bucky fell from the side of the truck which allowed one of the guys to send you off the truck too.
Sam was quick to fall back with his suit and grab you before you hit the concrete road. However, the impact of him grabbing you did leave you winded.Â
âBucky.â You wheezed as the man settled you on the side of the road.Â
Sam flew up and chased after the trucks.Â
You took a moment, wincing at your aching body before you rose to your feet and took off in their direction.Â
You couldnât catch up to the trucks but it didnât take long to find Bucky and Sam once you spotted they were both coming out of a field.Â
âIf someone told me Iâd be fighting a whole bunch of super soldiers today I wouldâve wore my nice pants.â You stated as you approached the two men.
âWe knew they were strong but not like this.â Sam defended himself from your anger.Â
âOne of those guys took a knife to the chest and could still walk away.â You threw your arms up as you informed him. This was so much worse than the documents had described.Â
âItâs going to take a lot more than just a knife to stop these guys.â Buckyâs eyes seemed to carry a storm as he thought.Â
âHow can this be possible? I thought the super soldier serum was gone. What happened in Siberia was supposed to have put an end to it all.â You remembered the failed super soldiers as clear as day.Â
âWe know about as much as you, (Y/n). Unless you tried to, you know, your weird seeing thing?â Sam asked.
âNo. It takes it out of me and I canât do it whilst Iâm trying to fight for my life so.â You shook your head as you walked beside the men. Whilst you werenât as powerful as some of the Avengers, you were a great assassin like Natasha Romanoff. Your talent was your knife throwing but under all the training and all the knowledge, there was a gift. A gift youâd had since birth.
If you touched someone, you could see their entire past, everything they had experienced up until that moment. It really drained you of your energy and over the years you trained yourself so that you could switch it on and off so it didnât happen every time you touched someone but when you did use it, it usually required a lie down afterwards.Â
âSorry about Redwing.â Bucky spoke up after a moment of silence.Â
âNo, youâre not.â Sam rolled his eyes at the fake apology before asking:Â âWhatâs going on in that big cyborg brain of yours?â
âItâs computing.â Bucky grumbled.Â
âYou know what? I can actually see it. I can see the gears turning. Oh, theyâre malfunctioning, shutting down. Yep, theyâre on fire.â Sam couldnât help but make fun of Bucky which only made you walk ahead of the men. You werenât in the mood for this.
âWe gotta figure out where the serumâs coming from.â You said to stop their silliness.Â
âYeah. And how in the hell after 80 years are there eight Super Soldiers runninâ loose?â Sam agreed with you just as a transport vehicle began to pull up along side him.Â
âSo that didnât go as planned, huh?â John Walkerâs voice penetrated the space like a foul smelling fart.Â
He opened the truckâs door to allow you all to hop in but you all ignored him.Â
âAlright. Letâs keep going.â He told the driver before directing his attention back to you. âLook, at least we know what weâre up against now, huh? And weâre pretty sure itâs one of the Big Three, soâŚâ
"Aliens, androids, or wizards?â Sam spoke up just to prove to Bucky that others knew of the âBig Three.â
âPretty sure.â Walker nodded.
âThereâs no such thing as wizards.â Bucky exclaimed which made you cock an eyebrow at the man. You clearly missed a conversation here.Â
âThen itâs aliens, or androids.â Walker shrugged as if it were obvious.
âââOr Super Soldiers.â Sam added.Â
âShit. Super Soldiers, for real?â Walkerâs colleague responded with the reaction you just about expected.Â
âYeah.â Sam confirmed.Â
âWow. All right, well, then we gotta work together.â Walkerâs eyebrows rose as he spoke.Â
âThatâs not happening.â Bucky declared.
âI think we stand a much better chance if we all justâââ
âââJust âcause you carry that shield, it doesnât mean youâre Captain America.â Bucky cut Walker short and you were grateful for it. The man was making your head ache.Â
âLook, Iâve done the work, okay?â Walker sighed.Â
âYou ever jump on top of a grenade?â Bucky shot back but he wasn't met with the answer he wanted.Â
âYeah. Actually, I have. Four times. Itâs a thing I do with my helmet. Itâs a reinforced helmet. Itâs a long story, but, any⌠Look, itâs 20 miles to the airport. You guys need a ride.â Walker got his driver to stop. âGet in.âÂ
You looked back at Sam and Bucky. You hadnât said anything yet which Sam thought was a record of yours. You chose to give in and climbed into the truck with Bucky and Sam since your body was already aching from the previous fight.Â
âOkay, so weâve got eight Super Soldiers on a bulk supply run. Why?â Walker asked, his eye on you as you sat in between Bucky and Sam.Â
âThey say their mission is to get things back to the way it was during the Blip. Maybe theyâre just trying to help.â Sam told Walker what he knew.Â
âThey had a funny way of showing it.â Bucky grimaced as a bruise on his face started to form.Â
âThat serum doesnât exactly have a great track record. No offence.â Walker looked over at Bucky as he hinted at the winter soldier.Â
âWe need to figure out where theyâre going.â You wanted to shift the attention away from Bucky.Â
âShe speaks? I have to admit I was starting to wonder.â Walker smiled at you which only made you want to punch him even more than you already did. Â
âHowâd you track âem here? The Flag Smashers?â Sam could tell you were a second away from decking the new Captain America and hopping ship so carried on the conversation.Â
âUh, no, we didnât track them, we tracked you, uh, through Redwing.â Hoskins notified Sam.Â
âYou hacked my tech?â Sam was beyond irritated at this point.Â
âSorry. Itâs not exactly hacking. Itâs government property. Kind of the government.â Walker laughed as he gestured to himself. âDoes he always just stare like that?â He stopped laughing under Buckyâs stare.Â
âYou get used to it.â Sam muttered.Â
âOkay, look, you know, things have gotten kind of, uhâââ
âââChaotic.âHoskins helped Walker find the word.Â
âYeah.â Walker cleared his throat. âThe GRC, theyâre doing the best they can to get things up and running smoothly, post Blip.â
âReactivating citizenship, social security, healthcare. Basically just managing resources for the refugees who were displaced by the return.â Hoskins tried filling you in as if you hadn't heard about it before. The GRC propaganda was plastered across all the cities in America.Â
âThe Global Repatriation Council does all that. We understand but why exactly are you two here?â You questioned, cocking your head towards Walker.Â
âWell, they provide the resources and we keep things stable.â Hoskins replied first.
âYeah, violent revolutionaries arenât usually good for anyoneâs cause.â Walker added on.Â
âUsually said by the people with the resources.â Sam smirked at the men.Â
âWell, we got a lot of resources. If you guys, if you joined up with us, we couldâââ
âââNo.â Bucky shut Walker down immediately.Â
âI got mad respect for both of yâall. But you were getting your asses kicked till we showed up.â Hoskins wasnât helping the situation.Â
âWho are you?â Bucky asked genuinely.Â
âLemar Hoskins.â Hoskins introduced himself once again.Â
âLook, I see a guy hanging out of a helicopter in tactical gear, I need a lot more than Lemar Hoskins.â Sam backed Bucky up on that one. A name was nothing in this situation.
âIâm Battlestar. Johnâs partner.â Hoskins nodded towards Walker and you couldn't stop the smile that spread across your lips when Bucky responded.Â
âBattlestar? Stop the car!â Bucky called up ahead.Â
The car slowed as it pulled into a bus stop. Bucky pushed open the door and you followed. You couldn't stand sitting in front of that man in that uniform another second longer.Â
"Look, I⌠I get it, okay? I get the attitude, I do. You didnât think that the shield was gonna end up here. I get it, Bucky. And Iâm⌠â Walker turned back to Sam. âIâm not trying to be Steve. Iâm not trying to replace Steve. Iâm just trying to be the best Captain America I can be. Thatâs it. Itâd be a whole lot easier if I had Capâs wingmen on my side.âÂ
Sam scoffed at Walkerâs choice of words. Wingmen? He really had the audacity.Â
âItâs always that last line.â Sam jumped out of the vehicle and followed you and Bucky.Â
Once back on the aircraft you stripped of your weapons and jacket.Â
Sam and Bucky did the same.Â
You sat down on your seat and rested your head back against the wall. You needed an ice bath. Your muscles were screaming at you.Â
âYou alright?â Sam asked Bucky as he sat, his eyes locked on the floor.Â
You opened your eyes to look over at the men.Â
âLetâs take the shield, Sam. Letâs take the shield and do this ourselves.â Bucky sounded pretty decided.Â
âWe canât just run up on the man, beat him up, and take it. Do you remember what happened the last time we stole it?â Sam sat up slowly as he furrowed his brow at the idea.
âMaybe.â Bucky grumbled.Â
âIâll help you in case you forgot.â Sam proclaimed, âSharon was branded enemy of the state, and Steve and I were on the run for two years. I donât know about you, but I donât wanna live the rest of my life la vida loca. We just got our ass handed to us by Super Soldiers, and we got nothing.âÂ
Even though you did spend some time in Wakanda under protection from their government, there was a period where you were on the run with Steve and Sam and it wasnât fun. Being pardoned after the fight against Thanos was one of the best things that happened to you; itâs what allowed you to go home.Â
âNot entirely true.â Bucky pushed himself onto his feet. âThere is someone that you should meet.âÂ
Buckyâs eyes met yours and you knew who he was talking about.Â
You had seen Bucky's past. Everyone of Buckyâs memories. You had seen all the death and the pain and the fighting. You had seen the Winter Soldier and pre-world war Bucky and you had suffered for it for some time. Nightmares used to plague you but you had managed to block most stuff from your mind over the years. Especially the Winter Soldier memories because that wasnât really Bucky; that was a weapon made by Hydra.Â
You had been forced by the team to check his memories to see if he really had bombed the UN but you couldn't choose how far you looked back, you gift made you see everything from the earliest childhood memory up to that moment.Â
You stood and approached Bucky.
âAre you sure about this?â You whispered, taking hold of Buckyâs forearm as you pulled him to one side.
âHe should know.â Buckyâs eyes seemed so sure. You dropped your hand down from his arm to his hand and gave it a squeeze.Â
âAlright then.â You pressed your lips into a thin line as you accepted his choice.Â
Soon enough the route was changed and the plane turned.Â
âWill you come?â Bucky asked as the door to the plane opened.Â
âIâll wait here but call me if you need me.â You didnât feel like seeing Isaiah. Some of the time if something from Buckyâs past showed up it could trigger his memories in your own head which you didnât particularly enjoy.Â
âAlright.â Bucky sighed but left without you.Â
Only a short while later you had received a phone call from Sam.Â
âHello?â You answered.Â
âItâs Bucky. Heâs been arrested. There was a warrant out for his arrest.â Sam informed you.Â
âWhy?â You were confused. Bucky had been pardoned like the rest of you for his crimes and his warrant wiped.Â
âHe missed his therapy session or something. Iâm heading back to your, we gotta go get him out.â Sam hung up pretty quickly.Â
âWhy didnât you tell anyone about the super solider?â Sam asked you as you made your way to the station.Â
âI only knew because Iâve been inside Buckyâs head but if I listed off every single person Bucky has fought or killed or wronged it would take me a while.â You hated admitting that but the Winter Soldier had done a lot of damage.Â
âBut this was a black super soldier who rotted behind bars for years! Being experimented on like a lab rat whilst Steve sat in the ice and Bucky ran around playing secret assassin!â Sam was angry and you understood why.Â
âI didnât know he was in prison. I only knew of him as the guy Bucky fought in Goyang and lost. I figured if Bucky wanted him found then he would say. Itâs not my place, theyâre not my memories.â You tried to defend yourself but you knew Sam would never understand your logic.Â
âHow can I trust you if youâre sitting on information like that?â Sam catechised you.Â
âBecause youâve trusted me for years. I say what needs to be said and if it isn't useful to us at the time then I donât bring it up. I have so much inside of here from people that arenât even around more. When I go inside someoneâs head the memories donât just go away. Sometimes itâs hard to tell whoâs memories Iâm thinking of when I look back on things. I block what I can and deal with what I canât.â You stopped Sam in the hallway as you snapped. You couldnât believe he was questioning whether he could trust you or not after everything.Â
âI know it can be hard for you. I canât imagine what its like but there are some things more important than others and Isaiah. Isaiah is one of them.â Samâs words just made you turn and head to the desk.Â
You tried to get as much information about Bucky but all they instructed you to do was sit and wait.Â
âSam?â A woman approached you and Sam. You lifted your head up at the sound of her voice. âIâve heard a lot about you. Iâm Dr. Raynor. Iâm Jamesâs therapist.âÂ
You shook hands with the woman and introduced yourself.Â
âIâve heard some about you too.â Dr. Raynor smiled as she greeted you.Â
âThank you for getting him out.â Sam thanked her as he shook her hand but she only furrowed her brow.Â
âThat was not me.â She told you both.Â
âChristina!â You didnât need super hearing to recognise that voice. âGood to see you again!â Walker was signing autographs as he entered the station.Â
âYou gotta be kidding me. You know him?â Sam only said what you were thinking.Â
âYeah, we did some field ops back in the day.â Dr Raynor looked between Sam and Walker.Â
âI heard you were working with Bucky, so I thought Iâd step in.â Walker approached her which made you stepped back. âBuckyâs not gonna be following a strict schedule any longer.â
âWe havenât finished our work. Who authorized this?â Dr Raynor protested.Â
âUmâŚâ Walker pointed to himself. You felt a fire flare inside of you. âHeâs too valuable of an asset to have tied up. Just do whatever you got to do with him, then send him off to me. Got some unfinished business, him and I.â
Walker then pointed to you and Sam.Â
âYou too, Wilson. (Y/l/n). Iâll be outside.â Walker backed away, sending a wink in your direction.Â
You felt Sam take hold of your wrist quickly before you could even take the chance to lunge forward.Â
âBreathe.â Sam told you. âWeâll deal with that asshole later.âÂ
Bucky was allowed through and Dr Raynor approached him immediately.
âJames, condition of your release, session now. You too, Sam.â She insisted as she headed back towards the cells from which Bucky had just come from.Â
âThatâs okay. Iâll be out here with (Y/n).â Sam brushed off the offer except it wasnât an offer.Â
âThat wasnât a request.â Dr Rayor warned him.Â
You pushed the man forward.Â
âQuicker youâre in, quicker youâre out.â You told him.Â
âWhy doesnât she want you?â Sam pouted.Â
âGet moving before I get bored and decide to use John Walker out there as my new punching bag. Get myself in trouble.â You tried to make the man laugh but failed. He only groaned and dragged himself inside.Â
It didnât take long for Sam to storm out of there who was swiftly followed by Bucky.Â
âHey, you okay?â You asked Sam as he returned to you.Â
âPeachy.â He sneered.
You sighed and followed both men outside.Â
âWell, I feel better.â Sam announced once you were all finally outside.Â
âI feel awful.â Bucky muttered which made you want to take his hand but you refrained as a siren drew your attention over to Walker and his buddy.Â
âGentlemen. Lady. Good to see you again.â Walker had a smile on that you wanted to wipe clean off. â Look, if we divide ourselves, we donât stand a chance, you guys know that.âÂ
âWell do you have anything thatâs actually useful?â You folded your arms across your chest as you closed in on the men. Â
"Well, the leaderâs nameâs Karli Morgenthau. Weâve been targeting civilians whoâve been helping Karli move from place to place.â Walker started.Â
âThey geotagged a location, then scrambled the signal. But our satellites have found their symbol popping up in various displaced communities all across Central and Eastern Europe.â Hoskins continued.Â
âWe think sheâs taking the medicine she just stole to one of these camps.â Walker finished.Â
âWell, there are hundreds of those all over the planet since the Blip. So I guess youâll have to look real hard.â Buckyâs glowered at the man as he leant on the cop car.Â
âGood thing I have 20/20 vision, huh?â Walker smirked as he snapped back.Â
âWhere is she now, Walker? Do you know?â Bucky rose his voice.Â
âNo, we donât know, Bucky. Itâs only a matter of time before we find out.â Walker rose his voice also.Â
âThings are really intense for you, arenât they, Walker?â Bucky was being cocky. You had to stop yourself from finding it amusing.Â
âTake it easy. Look, Walkerâs right. It is imperative that we find them and stop them. But you guys have rules of engagement and all kind of authorizations you have to get. Weâre free agents. Weâre more flexible. So it wouldnât make sense for us to work with you.â Sam interrupted and seemed to clear the air a little. You took his last words as a chance to leave but Walker wasnât done.
âA word of advice, then.â Walker stopped you all. âStay the hell out of my way.â
You watched the two men walk away. Your jaw clenching together to stop you from saying something youâd regret.Â
âCome on.â Sam urged you on and you forced yourself to walk away.Â
Once you were far enough from the station Sam asked you both what you were thinking.Â
âWell, I know what we have to do. When Isaiah said âmy peopleâ...â Bucky was the one of out you both to speak first.Â
âOh, donât take that to heart. Thatâs not what he meant.â Sam began.Â
âNo, he meant HYDRA. HYDRA used to be my people.â Bucky corrected him.Â
âNot a chance.â You shook your head, putting your foot down.Â
âWalker doesnât have any leads.â Bucky claimed.Â
âBucky, I know where youâre going with this and Iâm saying no.â You couldnât believe he was even suggesting it.Â
âHe knows all of HYDRAâs secrets.â Bucky tried to reason with you.Â
âDonât you remember Siberia?â Sam also knew exactly what Bucky meant.Â
Bucky nodded.Â
âSo youâre just gonna go sit in a room with this guy?â Sam stared at Bucky with a mixture of shock and concern.Â
âYes.â Bucky was hesitant to answer which only made you hate this idea even more.Â
âOkay, then.â Sam sighed. âWeâre gonna go see Zemo.âÂ
âNo! No, we arenât not going to see Zemo!â You demanded causing both the boys to stop.Â
â(Y/n), itâs different now.â Bucky declared.Â
âItâs the only lead we got.â Sam was actually on Buckyâs side.Â
âWhat? And you think heâs just gonna help us like that?â You scoffed out of disbelief.Â
âWe have to try.â Bucky started to walk again.Â
âI trust this guy about as far as I can throw him, Buck!â You exasperated.Â
âThatâs more than me.â Sam murmured but you chose to ignore it.Â
â(Y/n). Weâre going.â Bucky wasn't arguing anymore. It was going to happen.Â

My incoherent ramblings about why it would make sense for Carlos to have a sibling be introduced that we previously havenât known about-
Like thereâs the they keep a lot of balls in the air and after s1 things did take a slight turn into the why give backstory when we can blow things up and light things on fire territory
BUT CONSIDER THIS.
First thing- how different TK and Carlos are as people.
Like TK- this boy has no chill. Like nothing even resembling chill. He wears his heart on his sleeve, to the point of how did this man hide his addiction- he really doesnât like keeping things to himself. (Like can you imagine when Gwyn out there how soon TK wanted her to meet Carlos? Like as soon as Gwyn walked in the door TK was FaceTiming Carlos like âBABE! My mom just got to town you have to meet her!â And Carlos would be like âI want to but the covid times⌠doesnât she need to quarantine first?â And then TK would call back like ten minutes later like âokay I figured it out, youâre gonna come to the window and will be close enough to hear but still far enough awayâŚâ and while TK is explaining his new plan to Carlos, in the background Gwyn is poking Owen in the ribs and whispering heâs been living with you way too long, you did this)
But Carlos isnât like that. Heâs a much more private person- he would rather wait and wait until he actually canât hold back and just wants to talk about it (one of my favorite Carlos moments is the âhey carlos? Seeing anybody? Interesting- isnât friendship funâ moment with Michelle in season 1. Also I miss Michelle- Carlos needs a non-126 buddy). But Carlos is much more of a compartmentalizing person than TK is- Carlos can keep his life with TK separate from the Carlos who is his parents dutiful son. And nothing weâve seen of Carlosâs parents so far would imply they donât have another kid- I mean they had a whole ranch! Do they still have a ranch? Did they give up the ranch because none of their kids wanted to run said ranch? Carlos said his dad didnât want him to be a cop; did he want Carlos to run the ranch because there is an older Reyes child who also did not want to run the ranch??
Also - if it is revealed that Carlos has a sibling it doesnât even mean that itâs news, it could be something he told TK about and nobody else. Weâve seen multiple 126 hangs where everyone is talking over each other and Carlos is sitting being polite, being the pleasure to have in class who sits up straight he always is.
Like I can think of shows where they show multiple flashbacks to the characters childhood and see their parents and then itâs like âoh they have a sibling coming who weâve never mentioned and after these three episodes we will never show againâ and itâs like⌠I feel like this shouldnât count? And is cheap storytelling?
But so far from what weâve learned about Carlos it could go either way- he could be the only child in his family or we could learn he has a sibling, or multiple siblings and it wouldnât feel too out of place.
Basically season 4 just needs to fucking start. I canNOT take much more of this December.

Billy Is Going To Find The Byers
IMPORTANT: If you havenât read my post âThe Demogorgon Is Billyâs Dark Reflection,â please check it out, as it goes hand in hand with this one. Thanks :D
A few months ago, we all got our first look at some of the new characters for S4. I checked them out with great interest.Â
âLt. Colonel Sullivan... military dude in Hawkins... cool, makes sense. Victor Creel... ooooooh, played by Robert Englund, betcha heâs gonna be one of Elâs predecessors. Eddie Munson... damn, heâs super sus. Argyle... Jonathanâs new bff, who delivers pizza for--â
I stopped.
And freaked. OUT.
Argyle delivers pizza for Surfer Boy Pizza.
Surfer Boy Pizza.
SURFER BOY PIZZA.
A whole constellation of dots connected, and I knew IMMEDIATELY where this is heading. Letâs walk through it step by step... starting with the inception of Stranger Things itself.
The Duffers love the movie Jaws, to the point that they give it pride of place in their list of inspirations. Hell, Stranger Things probably wouldnât have existed without it. Initially, as a homage to the movie, the show was set in a Long Island beach town called Montauk. The setting didnât change until the Duffers began pre-production:
They began by scouting locations on the northern tip of Long Island, but the community - so integral to the script - didnât look as they had imagined, and its distance from New York City made the idea of anchoring the production there unfeasible. A new approach was required. (Worlds Turned Upside Down, p 25)
After that, they rewrote the script to take place in Indiana, and âHawkins was born.âÂ
Still, you can tell their love for Jaws lingered. Hopperâs truck looks like Martin Brodyâs:
Meanwhile, the Demogorgon was inspired by the shark, and the show isnât shy about that fact. In S1, when Nancy explains her theory for what the Demogorgon is, she likens its bloodlust to that of a shark:
In the final episode, when Nancy, Jonathan, and Steve are hiding from the Demogorgon in Willâs room, the Jaws poster hangs prominently in the left side of the frame:
Furthermore, the Demogorgonâs behavior emulates that of the shark. Like Nancy points out, it hunts alone, emerging from the Upside Down (*COUGHTHEOCEANCOUGH*) to pick people off one by one. And though we donât see its full form until the end, its presence haunts us throughout, infusing the story with dread.
Okay! So the Duffers originally set Stranger Things in a beach town, and the Demogorgon was inspired by the Jaws shark. Cool. What does this mean for us?
Everything.
Think about it. The Byers have moved to a new town. We arenât sure where they went, but in S2 Bob suggested Maine. Maine is on the East Coast, not far from Long Island.
And as you can see, it has hundreds of miles of beaches.
If the Duffers have any sense, they wouldnât drop the Byers in another town like Hawkins. That would be redundant and hella boring. Instead, they would seize the opportunity to explore a new setting with a different feel. Not an inland town surrounded by woods and farmland, but... oh, idk... a beach town.
On top of that, the Byersâ move gives the Duffers the perfect opportunity to return to the showâs roots. Finally, they can bring Montauk to life.
If thatâs what theyâve done, and the Byers have moved to a beach town, weâre headed for prime Billy territory.
Billy OWNS the beach. In the context of the show, we get our first glimpse of a beach in his mind, for Godâs sake. And heâs deeply connected to water as an element. Heâs a surfer, lifeguard, swim instructor... need I say more?
Heâs also likened to the Demogorgon - the monster inspired by the shark in Jaws.
Iâve already discussed the similarities between Billy and the Demogorgon. Those were fresh on my mind when I read Runaway Max for the first time. So, when I read this paragraph where Max describes the Camaro, I freaked out (I do that a lot):
Once, for two weeks back in April, I thought that Camaro was the coolest thing Iâd ever seen. It had a long, hungry body like a shark, all sleek painted panels and sharp angles. It was the kind of car you could rob a bank in. (pp 12-13)
Itâs a motherf***ing equation, yâall. Billy (by way of his Camaro) = the Demogorgon = the shark in Jaws.
And the Byers have just moved to a town where the local pizza place is called Surfer Boy Pizza.
A name like that doesnât make sense unless they really are in a beach town.
Hence why I completely lost my shit when I read about Argyle. When you take all the evidence together, it looks like the Duffers have set up a situation where, figuratively, our heroes will think they see a shark in the water (aka the Demogorgon).Â
But theyâll find out itâs not a shark. Itâs a surfer boy coming back to shore.
Hints and leaks have confirmed this idea so far. The Stranger Things social media accounts teased the following exchange last year:
âWhat if itâs the Demogorgon?â âItâs not the Demogorgon.â
Just a couple weeks ago, we got our first photo of the Surfer Boy Pizza delivery truck (credit: strangerinsidebr on IG). And the writing on the side is telling.
The writing in the center doesnât say, âSurfer Boy Pizza delivered hot to your door.â It says, âSurfer Boy delivered hot to your door.â The âpizzaâ is way off to the side.
Theyâre making a joke, guys. A fuckin joke.
âSurfer boy delivered HOT to your door ;)â
Jokes aside, the potential for Billyâs intro scene is so CLEAR and VIVID that I took a stab at sketching out how it could happen. Obviously I donât think it has to happen this way; the writers have plenty of wiggle room. But it illustrates the kind of scene I have in mind:
Episode 3: âThe Survivorâ
All this time, hints have been building that Billy is still alive. Creepy things keep happening that remind us of Will trying to communicate from the Upside Down in S1 (flickering lights, people feeling "haunted" by his "ghost," etc). At the end of the episode, a thunderstorm rolls into the Byers' beach town. Will and El are together at home, probably alone. As it's raining and thundering, strange things begin to happen that frighten them. They get a creepy phone call; the power goes out, but only at their house; etc. Remembering that horrific night three years ago, Will races to the window to look out. El follows him. Through the rain, they see a form swaying toward the house. Terrified, Will wants to leave, but El stops him. "But El, what if it's the Demogorgon?" "It's not the Demogorgon." They back away from the door and wait. To their shock, the chain unlocks by itself. The door opens, and their visitor walks in, looking like a drowned cat with a nosebleed. Billy.
God, Iâm freaking out again just writing all this out lololol. I need to go lie down.Â
BILLYâS COMING BACK, BITCHES.Â
Peace. âď¸

Inspired by this post
I adore corruption arcs, so I graded how well the non-archivist characters would have damned humanity if they had been the archivist.
Sasha James 11/10, would be an ideal archivist, this plus her height is probably why the stranger monster targeted her before she could peak
I have a soft spot for any au that knows Sasha has never seen a brain cell in her life and that any unhinged!Sasha au is really just a regular Sasha au. Picture it with me. Sasha and Jon have parallel archivist tracks, until Sasha (my beloved show off) decides: you know what would make me more efficient at snooping? Becoming a Human Google. And things accelerate. The Web doesn't even need to bother with subtly magic lighters, it slaps all 14 marks on her at once by pulling up next to Sasha in a windowless van with "free secrets đ" written on the side.
After the Unknowing, Sasha takes over the institute from Elias instead of Martin and Peter. With Tim dead, Jon in a coma, Martin lonely-snatched, Melanie compulsively homicidal, Daisy in the coffin, and Basira on autopilot, she quickly bonds with Rosie, the ultimate nosiness enabler. Sasha is a fully marked archivist for a good long while, but doesn't start the apocalypse right away because she's eager to read ALL the ominous notes Elias left, so the watcher's crown statement is in her to-be-read pile. When the apocalypse starts (Rosie: "Hey, Sasha, I just read something extra fucked up that Elias wrote, wanna see?" Sasha: "God yes."), she books it to become the pupil with Rosie as her anchor. Mayhapse an anchor-archivist polycule with Archivist Jon and Martin? Mayhapse Jon is just a normal eye avatar here and deeply invested in all of Sasha's eyepocalypse statements, so it's Sasha and her plus-three? Mayhapse it's a race across the eyepocalypse wasteland between Archivist Sasha and Archivist Jon to usurp Jonah and become the pupil?
Tim Stoker 2/10 dude's here for a good time, not a long time
The only way I see this working is if Elias disguises not-stranger clues as circus related so Tim is motivated to investigate. Otherwise, his archival assistants are way more curious than him and disobey his direct orders to đšchillđ. Jon, Sasha, and Martin inadvertently bring marks home to him like cats bring home dead birds. He asserts his agency when he decides the best course of action? Actually? Just blow up the archives. This unfortunately puts him in a false sense of security, and Elias makes him read the watcher's crown statement by cat fishing him on grindr and sending the ritual as a dm mid conversation.
Daisy Tonner - 9/10 archivist, would have started doomsday before she was at the archivist job long enough to use her PTO
Daisy already had a lot of experience hunting down fear-entity-related people in sectioned cases, which means she possibly canonically already has all the marks from just hunting avatars who use their powers in self defense. The reason she lost one point is because she's too much of a jock to read, only nerds are culpable to watcher crown statements, so this would be the only delay but oh what a delay it will be.
Melanie King - 7/10 archivist, points awarded for achieving her breakthroughs by smashing her head against a wall until she literally breaks through, points deducted for doing so in full clown makeup.
If Jon got a handful of marks by just asking anoying questions in the same room as an avatar, imagine how much faster Melanie would get marks by bringing her trademark Chaotic Brat personality on fear entity investigations. The apocalypse would have started in like two seasons: one season to hire her off the streets and establish shakey, complex relationships with her new assistants (Jon and Sasha put in the time with the institute but were passed over on this promotion for some random YouTuber (plus they're tighter with Tim and Martin, so proletarian solidarity against the boss)).
Then a second season to stab every mark and get stabbed in return. Melanie would blitz through all 14 marks because what precious little impulse control she starts with is slowly replaced with slaughter juice. One fun moral ambiguity to explore could be if Melanie tries to use her new, dangerous Eye/Slaughter powers to revive her reputation and platform in the supernatural community now that she can, ya know, identify supernatural things for the first time ever. Does she acknowledge her entire career up to her hospital episode apparently only investigated fake sightings? A better question to ask is whether Basira, Tim, and Jon ever let her live down how Ghost Hunt UK's professional dignity was contingent on the legitimacy of her sCiEnTiFiC gHoSt eQuIpMeNt in those episodes, so the temperature spikes set to dramatic music were well and truly just temperature spikes and dramatic music. Sasha found a clip of that music playing as Melanie narrates "it's a message... from the other side..." and made it as her text tone.
Also, it would be hilarious if Melanie tried to kill Jonah on sight in the panopticon, once again botched assassination attempt number 1,963,538, and then Jon quietly snuck in to finish the job on his first try just like in canon.
Jon: "What, like it's hard?"
Basira Hussain 3/10 archivist, her eye alignment manifests as office gossip, like a normal person
Basira has the most formidable super power of all: the power to nope tf out of any conversation or plan she wants. She therefore would probably take 10x longer to start the apocalypse than any other archivist because her fatal flaw is refusal to directly engage with a lot of personally difficult things (like the slaughter bullet surgery she organized, Daisy In General, etc). The marks will be slow going if she resists putting her safety on the line or invests time in making good plans (which is smart, but unhelpful for dooming humanity). She would for sure still get marked and end the world because once she's convinced of a plan (aka Elias convinces her of a plan), she's ruthlessly efficient. So I'd stay out of her way that last year or two, she marks the entities right back at them.
Martin Blackwood 2/10 archivist, considering a prerequisite for creepy eye avatar staring is the ability to make eye contact.
S1 Archivist Martin would probably dote too much on the employees under him to be hugely susceptible to Elias' isolation-dependant manipulation. Any progress Martin inadvertently achieves toward the watcher's crown goal would have to be contingent on it helping his loved ones, which is perfect fuel for a "corrupted by good intentions" arc. This would be key because Martin has superb bullshit and manipulation detection, making the marks are tricky but not impossible to orchistrate considering Jon can't stay put in a safe corner for 10 minutes and Martin's mother would refuse to stay with him where she's safe from avatar threats.
Imagine the petty drama when Jon and Sasha learn he got the promotion they wanted because he lied on his CV.
Other than that, Martin would be even worse about pit stops on the apocalypse road trip than Jon because his Kill Bill mode would have no off switch. Does Archivist!Martin and his anchor Jon ever reach the panopticon? Eventually, but not until after they lose points for significantly reducing the apocalypse fear quantity. Would Annabelle survive to deliver her cryptic MaCHiNAtIoNs and achieve the Web's goal? Hard No, additional point reduction for neutralizing the multiverse invasion. Points potentially earned back if Martin's Web connection is strong enough to come up with the multiverse invasion plan on his own, though.
Georgie Barker 4/10, as a fearless coward, all the fear she feeds to the entities would be khaki flavored. They'd get their apocalypse, but they probably wouldn't enjoy the meal.
Similar to Basira, Georgie has the super power to Fuck This Shit I'm Out. She would overall be a subpar humanity damning archivist; a major archivist success factor of Jon's is that he has enough affective empathy to be afraid with every statement giver he reads, so when Jon archives a statement, he unintentionally contributes to the fear soup seasoning. Combined with how Georgie doesn't want anything to do with entity drama, so any corruption specific to the watcher's crown would stagnate. Even her casual exposition conversations would go like
Georgie: "I've connected no dots."
Melanie: "you've connected a lot of dots??"
Georgie: "I've connected shit all dots."
The reason she gets one more point than Basira is because Georgie's fatal flaw is the passive observer quality the Eye tried to stoke in Jon. Her level of engagement oscillates between two extremes, impulsive over commitment and judging from a distance. This would probably lead her to geting involved just long enough for her involvement to become irreversible, at which point she would try to cut that shit out of her life after it's trapped her. She'd linger, barricading herself on the margins of this problem as the marks that are targeted at her slowly tally up until boom. Apocalypse is on and she only half understands what's happening.
Georgie would wander around an apocalypse hellscape confused, but vibes and physical health fully intact. Anchor!Melanie would have quite the emotional journey starting with Georgie on that pedestal Melanie placed her, and ending with a slaughter avatar stabbing the person who convinced her to work on her slaughter inclination.

They are destroying Rebeccaâs character this season and this Sam bullshit is the final nail in the coffin for her. What the f*** are they doing to their female lead ??
Well, I suppose this is the danger of offering resolution early in the piece and why so few television writers do it, particularly when it comes to romantic relationships. Because then there is the looming question of What Happens Next. So many writers prove that, while they may have the imaginative juice to create, they don't have what it takes to re-invent.
Whether you understand her as the protagonist or the antagonist of the first season of Ted Lasso, Rebecca's big revenge plot drove s1, gave it a clear narrative arc. This inaugural season likewise gave her character a clear and compelling arc. You could posit that, while Rebecca's pain drove season 1, Ted's pain is meant to be driving season 2...? But whatever Ted is going through does not have as clear-cut an objective so it is not giving the same sense of cohesion or direction. Within her s1 arc, we got to see Rebecca feel angry, frustrated, victorious, smug, thwarted, conflicted, heart-broken and vulnerable. Last season gave Hannah Waddingham so many opportunities to show the range of her skills as an actor and I still hope she wins an Emmy for this performance. But I doubt she will be winning any awards for her performance this season.
Most situation comedies stick to the same situation, snapping their characters back to where they were at the beginning of each episode. Certainly, this formula can become repetitive and dull after years. Ted Lasso received a great deal of praise when it broke this formula by offering resolution at the end of its first season no less. It broke the no-hugging-no-learning mantra of so many sitcoms when it allowed Rebecca to learn from her trauma, come clean and literally embrace Ted as a valuable part of her life. Since her character went on the biggest journey of the season, the question of What Happens Next was always going to be more significant for her than it was for any other character on the show.
Season 1 of Ted Lasso made me fall in love with Hannah Waddingham and the character of Rebecca Welton. But as much as it pains me to say it, in s2 she is nothing like the problematic powerhouse we met in s1. Her friendships with Keeley and Higgins continue on nicely enough. She's had some good moments with characters she had little interaction with in s1, like Roy and Nate. And it was great to meet her mother and god-daughter. But this fleshing out of the character is mostly work around her rather than work that propels her forward in any meaningful way. I understand that some people may be content just to watch Rebecca living her best life after the intensity of last season. But, for me, the pursuit of heterosexual romantic love by a woman to the exclusion of all else is a problematic aim since women have been told for centuries that securing a man is the single most important thing they can achieve in their lives.
Rebecca wants love and doesn't want to be alone. She's stated that, that's canon and that's fine. But romance seems to be Rebecca's ONLY aim, her single focus. We haven't seen her do anything in her role as club owner except make a phone call and look sharp, which I admit she does well. The woman looks INCREDIBLE. But if you are in your right mind (at least in my opinion), you are not expecting this amazing woman to end up with a pretentious windbag, a hot booty call or a wildly inappropriate youngster. So it all seems a bit aimless, purposeless. All of this dithering about with wrong dudes is just a waste of time when we have limited time with these beloved characters. We know we are only getting three short seasons of this show and I don't want to spend a full season watching a previously complex female character stare at her phone, only ever prompted into (questionable) action by her cute best friend. And I DEFINITELY don't want to watch...whatever the fuck they think this thing is with Sam.
Frankly, I am still flabbergasted that they have chosen this path. They genuinely seem to think that their audience will enjoy this as some hot romantic adventure...? And hey, a small but vocal minority are. Some diehard fans are trying to hold onto their faith with white knuckles. And the rest of us are just over here in compete and utter shock at the suddenness of the decline in this show's quality and ethics. The latest justification some fans are rather desperately grasping at seems to be that Rebecca's actions stem from her trauma. Now...okay. Trauma can be responsible for many things. But not this. Trauma can make you act in v strange ways but I don't see the connection here. I can clearly see how Rebecca's trauma from her first marriage dictated her actions towards Ted in s1. That is a very clear line to draw. I can see how, after her disastrous marriage, her judgement may be off and she may go for someone like John Wingsnight: someone safe, solid and appropriate. Again, a clear line to draw. I can also see why she would indulge in fun, shallow sexual relationships with the waiter in Liverpool and her booty call from bantr. All normal, understandable behaviour for a woman in her situation. And a v clear narrative line for the writers to draw. No problems there. Her actions in each of these cases can be traced back to Rupert and his abuse. But I cannot for the life of me draw a line between Rupert and Sam. As a traumatic reaction, that does not make a shred of sense to me.
It's true that sometimes those who have been abused become abusers, not that I'm saying Rebecca is abusing Sam in this scenario. What I am saying is that most trauma survivors will go out of their way to avoid becoming anything like their abusers. Most survivors try their damnedest to break the cycle of abuse, not perpetuate it. Most victim-survivors will act, sometimes even to their own detriment, to spare others from being impacted by their pain and trauma. Trauma and abuse does not break your moral compass. If anything, it makes it stronger. Trauma and abuse heightens your sensitivity to what is right, just and honest. Having seen Rebecca ultimately unable to follow through in her trauma-inspired revenge plot on Ted, it does not make sense to me that she is blindly (without any of the nuanced inner conflict of s1 Rebecca) allowing her trauma and abuse to lead her into a situation that not only emulates her ex-husband's hurtful, unethical behaviour, but endangers what is now supposed to be so valuable to her.
All the press for s2 as spruiked Rebecca as a dating disaster but enthusiastically committed to her club. There is a huge difference, however, between charmingly, comedically 'messy' and inept to the point of self-destructive stupidity. I just don't buy her as this dumb. Yet here she is, after all her dealings with the savage British press last season, endangering the reputation of herself, her club and one of its most vulnerable players. Oddly enough, the Rebecca we saw in s1, with her many layers and nuances, seems to me to be a far more moral (not to mention interesting) rendering of this character. This Rebecca was motivated by injustice, she had an acute understanding of what was and wasn't right. It's why she conceived of her revenge plot and also why she ultimately dropped it. It is one thing for writers to propose that there are multiple steps on the way to healing. It is one thing for them to lead a character into a dark forest full of conflict and complication. But, from what I can tell, some people don't know the difference between a dark forest and straight-up bad writing. And it really fucking shows.

2021 Retrospective
Thought that 2021 was as bad as 2020, if not more so? Don't worry, things WILL continue to get worse. Predicting 2028 will be peak Clown World Decade, starting out seemingly okay but going max bonkers past half-time. Precedent's been set, after all.
Now that the doom and gloom's out of the way: without repeating anything I said in previous yearly retrospectives, 2021 wasn't that eventful for me. Probably the biggest blunder might've been not using the Huion Kamvas that I got last year, even though I got it working properly in January. Not a single drawing was done with it, so a waste of money; and I had no excuse, I was locked in the house for the first half of the year, I had plenty of time. Also, my movie list being empty for the first time in over ten years was quite the bummer.
Instead of more demoralizing drivel, figured I'd just recommend some of the cartoon shows that I've (re)watched in recent years which I find to be worth a damn. Maybe if more people watch decent shows from yesteryear, they'll realize why all the horseshit 'content' that's been coming out is fucking atrocious. Not all of them are good, and they're not properly ranked in terms of quality or preference, but here they are:
.Spectacular Spider-Man - One of the best iterations of this IP, and a wonderful example of writing doing proper set-ups. Yes, I'm sad it didn't get its full run. No, I don't want it to continue, even if everyone involved were to come back;
.Futurama - Latter seasons are a bit poopy and less imaginative, but everything pre-movies is top notch comedy and sci-fi storytelling;
.The Batman - The first three seasons are fantastic in establishing Bats and how he handles the job and the Rogues Gallery. Has a weird thing where either character designs or their personalities don't work too well, and the quality drops hard in the last two seasons.
.Johnny Bravo S2 & 3 - Still fucking hilarious, every single episode. S4 was dogshit, so don't watch it, but S1 might be okay, I didn't bother;
.Wakfu - Watch the french dub. Transitions between each season is a bit lacking, I bet they tried to tie the show to the game. Characters are loveable, animation is great, story beats a bit 'ehn' when it comes to powers and reveals;
.Samurai Jack S1-4 - A lot of leniency has to be given to style, but most episodes work really well. One of those shows where it felt like it told every story it could, but hadn't outstayed its welcome (pre-S5);
.Ben 10 (2005) - Fuck everything besides the original series. Has a great blend of all things paranormal, and a kid hero who's properly characterized as a little shit with a heart of gold, learning and training to be a hero;
.Kim Possible - Surprised how decent the characters are, for teen caricatures. Not all episodes work, and some villain confrontations become slightly repetitive;
.Codename: Kids Next Door - Very absurd, especially watching it now, but the world is consistent for the most part. Worst episode is unquestionably the mini-golf one;
.Megas XLR - Pure satire of mech/kaiju/sentai media through an all-american lense. A good enough serving of what we get;
.The Mummy Animated Series - Alternate reality version of 'The Mummy Returns'. Less funny than the film, but the first season's pretty decent;
.Jackie Chan Adventures - Outside of its finale, S4 is the best, S2 is horrible. The show itself is not good, but entertaining. Shame its namesake is no longer with us, RIP;
What I DON'T recommend at ALL: The Mask Animated Series... it's so fucking bad. Not just from the writing, but also from the horrendous pacing and low quality animation in a lot of instances. Don't suffer like I did, just stick with the Jim Carrey movie, because the show isn't worth it. And Freakazoid, to its credit, gets better as it goes on, but not enough to recommend. Sucks that both of these toon-type hero shows don't work out.
Lastly, there's one more thing. One that I probably would consider one the best shows of the previous decade, in spite of its flaws. However, out of principle and spite (30/70 split), I'll never mention or acknowledge which show it is.
1And that's about it for my once-a-year vent session. See you in 2022, only 200 years for the roulette to pay off.

Do you have any hopes for the season finale? I saw in another ask, you described the dynamic between rick and morty this season as "very weak, distant, and downright frankly boring" and I completely agree with you! I hope that, because this is most we'll see rick and morty interacting this season, it'll have at least a few moments of what makes their dynamic so interesting to watch.
(Ok i started airing my grievances with this season, which ended up being... long, so skip this paragraph (starting at / / /) to get to my thoughts on the finale)
Oh gosh I remember that ask (I think-). And yeah, maybe I'm being a bit overly critical. I'll probably look back on this season with retrospect, and a kinder, fonder view. Ik androgynousblackbox (think thats right) made a great point about it being the season FOR rickorty shippers. And sure, I agree on some bits, like Rick acting all pissy and partying the way you would if your ex got with someone new in the planetina ep. Overall though, i think my problem lies in that I was enjoying more individual moments than episodes themselves, especially the middle three. For example- Amortycan Grickfitti. Like, I really liked the idea of the Ship getting on a crazy adventure with Summer and Morty (and Chutback). I like the idea of a Beth-Jerry-Rick adventure. But put together, it's just kinda... meh? You know? I liked the first half of the Thanksgiving special... but it kinda dragged on after that. I get that they want to give other characters (particularly female ones) more attention, which is completely understandable and i encourage it(!) but I can't help but find it underwhelming. Like, Summer in the voltron ep was like- girl how are you STILL vying for Rick's attention! He's the worst! Haven't we done this already? (I will say though I ADORE how far Beth has come, props to her for continuing to seeing through her dad's BS. I was worried the character would relapse into a more typical s1/s2 Beth, and I'm glad she didn't). Some of these plots, funnily enough, seem more fitting of the comics (they actually had a voltron parody already). Fun and entertaining for two or three-something issues, not so much a 22 minute episode. i think most of my complaints come from the dynamic between our titular characters- ok, I know I'm very biased (I mean you can see it), but I came to the show primarily for their relationship. It doesn't even feel drama-fueled, just that they kinda... can't be arsed. I'm torn because on the one hand, they're unhealthily codependent and this separation is probably a good thing, but on the other... it doesn't feel natural? I'm not sure if that's the right word- it's like, season 4 had them practically joint at the hip, but all that's suddenly flung out the window. It just kinda feels like this "i got better things to do" vibe from both of them and its strange. The only time they both got a solo adventure (I'm classifying "solo" as an adventure where they spent a significantly large portion of time together, without the other family members) was in the sperm ep and Thanksgiving ep. And, well, in the Thanksgiving ep Morty felt like a side character in his own show, and the sperm ep... um. Yeah. I don't think it's AS bad as people were saying, but I was cringing the whole time (the second hand embarrassment for Morty was so strong I had to turn off the episode multiple times and return to it. It's just like- godammit MORTY). And I think there's good reason those two seemed to be the most disliked episodes overall. They're the ones RaM spend the most time together and it's... meh. Meh? Meh. I don't mean to say the season overall is bad (it has loads of good points, and its amazing for Smith family as a whole) just that if we're talking specifically about the dynamic between these two? Yeah, I wouldn't recommend a single episode from this season so far to use as an example of their relationship.
/ / /
There's one thing this season has been pretty good at, though. And it's showing us what happens when Rick is alone.
And that brings me to the finale.
"Who is Rick without Morty?"
Well... we already know the answer to that. Pathetic. Sad. Lonely.
This season has been phenomenal in humbling Rick. (And trust me I'm happy for it- every time someone beats the crap outta this shitty old man I'm like YES!!! IT'S WHAT HE DESERVES!). Ep 1 had his "nemesis" clearly besting him, ep 2 had Beth making constant digs (love her) and overall pointing out his extreme callousness and cruelty towards even himself(ves). Ep 3- when Morty shows interest in a girl and ditches him (like seriously it's not like he's moving out, chill) he immediately goes on a bender and develops a deep attachment to the first person he can (wearing yellow, funnily enough). Ep 4, he devotes himself to becoming an "honest man" for his new child, only for it to instantly be taken away from him. Ep 5 highlights how RICK is the asshole for making fun of and taking advantage of someone well-meaning and honest, if "simple", and how literally not cool that is. Ep 6 has his crazy rivalry with the president, and they both get smacked down a couple pegs for that. Ep 7 shows what happens when he allows himself to get carried away, and that he can end up driving everyone else away in the process (lucky they still wanted to save his ass when he needed them). And episode 8? Hooooo boy. Episode. 8. We see a direct parallel in Birdperson with Morty, and the whole "Rick and [insert] 100 years!" Rick has few people he cares about, arguably only one or two that he truly devotes himself to, but when he does, boy does he go HARD. We see younger Rick, optimistic, energetic, friendly and hopeful. And we see all of that crushed in minutes. Rick is desperate for a companion, someone to see the stars with. He needs someone there, someone he can trust and rely on to stay. Someone like Morty. So without Morty, who is Rick?
No one.
And the thing is, Morty doesn't need Rick anymore. Not like Rick needs him. In season 1, Morty was this bright-eyed kid who was new to the cosmos and the multiverse, who needed his grandpa there with him as they explored all these places together. But that's not him anymore. That's not them.
The promo has Morty using the portal gun to go somewhere w/o Rick's permission (i like to think it's boob world lol). It doesn't matter to me as much where he's going, as much as he's doing it alone. He doesn't just not need Rick there, he doesn't want him.
(Also correct me if im wrong but I've missed that sweet portal gun so much. I think the last ep was like- the first time this season we saw it).
Morty's response to Rick? "Replace me!". And wow. Wow. WOW. Morty doesn't give a FUCK! I think Rick thinks that because he's so smart, that he can offer so much, that Morty will come crawling back, and I don't think he will.
Hopes for the finale! Hmm. I mean, I definitely hope "evil" Morty makes a reappearance, haha. I think we all do tbh ;). I want to see some Morty development too, this season has been very Rick-centric (not that there's anything wrong with that!) so I wanna see what's in store for Our Boy. I really hope we get to see the Citadel again, and see the state it's in, but I doubt it. We know something super big is in store, it's just a question of what? Other hopes I have is some Summer + Beth action (please let them team up Im BEGGING) and Jerry too ahaha. I'd love if some other side characters made an appearance as well. Oh- I'm definitely expecting a dramatic cliffhanger at the end of the first half leading to the second half, with the kind of angsty music that leads into the credits (pls that shit is so good (OH WAIT imagine if it was like, for the damaged coda, but like- the chopin version or smth so it could be more subtle maybe bruhhhh)). Ok haha, maybe that's asking too much, the writers made it clear in the story train ep that they weren't gonna do that big dramatic showdown (... unless đ). Oh, I'd also love some Premium Angst too, like someone getting kidnapped/nearly dying (like ACTUALLY nearly dying). These stakes better be so damn high I could spear a man on them! OH, also I remember androgynousblackbox (is that right? I hope it is) mentioned something along the lines that they could be driving Rick and Morty apart this season in order to have them come back together stronger than ever in an explosive finale, which, I'm strongly hoping for myself.
Thanks if you made it this far! If you have any thoughts on or hopes of your own for the finale please feel free to share! :D

trailer thoughts đ
Letâs keep in mind it's just a trailer so I'm not gonna be too judgy. The s1 trailer included mostly clips from episode 1-3 and then some from 5 and 6. This one probably also mostly includes scenes from the first two to four eps. The first season also had a pretty fast pace and a lot happened in the episodes, which might be the case this season too. Something I noticed was that the necklaces are nowhere to be seen in the trailer. They will appear later but tbh I'm starting to believe that maybe they only were a coincidence, but we'll see! Ana's health isn't mentioned either. Anaâs mom is there which is exciting, I really enjoyed the grandmas! Tere makes an appearance only in the teaser, and she's talking to JC and not Mariana, maybe they're on bad terms still. FerrĂĄn is also introduced. Ana's and Mariana's relationship seems rocky, but then again it's only the trailer and they probably want to throw us off by showing them being interested in FerrĂĄn.
Let's just start with FerrĂĄn and get it over with lol. Seems like there's gonna be some sort of a love triangle between the three of them because he's flirting with both of them? I'm not sure how all that's gonna go down since they're all working together. There's one part in the script, at the dinner where he also is invited together with Mariana, and then another part where Pablo asks Mariana how her weekend with FerrĂĄn went, and so does all this happen unbeknownst to Ana, while she also has a thing with him? Or are they going for polyamory? Like that one time Paulina commented that a polyamorous relationship could be a good idea under a pic of Ana and Mariana, and also mentioned it in on of the clips that recently came out. I mean can you imagine? "Madre SĂłlo Hay Dos....... + FerrĂĄn". I just donât see it. Idk what part of the audience that plot would please. I might be biased since I am very for Ana and Mariana only, but putting that aside, Idk how that would fit in this story in particular. I'm thinking there's a plot twist at the end regarding FerrĂĄn. And a side note, Paulina barely posted anything about the s2 so I donât think sheâd randomly give a potential spoiler like that. I hope sheâs trolling xd.
Regarding Juan Carlos, apparently him and Ana and are still going to therapy which ughhh I'm so over JC, I don't care about the man at all. Iâm pretty sure they officially are separating and I get that it takes time but I'm over hiiiim. It's such a waste of time since they did it in s1 when they were on better terms and couldn't figure things out. It's a short season and I'd just like to see something other than JC :<.
A lot of the scenes in the trailer also feel like they're in the first episode. The scene where Ana, Romelia and the kids are eating and they ask about Mariana and JC could be the opening scene, which also could lead the kids inviting Mariana over and then Mariana does come over (before the trailer came out I was thinking Mariana was sleeping over at Ana's because I thought she was wearing pajamas, turns out she's not lolll). That could be Ana's and Mariana's first encounter. Ana sees Mariana in her house, gets angry and maybe they'll even have some intense conversations ;)... They're really milkning Mariana being confused so idk how far they'll take that. Ana will probably be in full denial-self defense mode for a while, which isn't surprising.
She'll possibly go back to her 1x01 characteristics and personality for a while, especially with Mariana. Ana's probably really going to get on Mariana's nerves, especially knowing Mariana is patient, causing things to build up until it eventually bursts for Mariana which probably happens when she walks out on Ana after they argue. That argument seems to be a little more serious than their normal bickering since even Ana seems affected by Marianaâs response. I think all of this will happen in maybe the first 2-4 eps, which makes my wonder what'll happen in the other half of the seasonâŚ
I was thinking Ceci's grad might be at the end of the season but it probably isn't. And speaking of Ceci, I hope they develop her and Ana's relationship way more this season, I really do. They didn't get too much time last time so I hope they'll have some sweet moments together, regarding everything... I really like Ceci! Ceci probably wants Mariana at her graduation and so Ana maybe cools down a bit and realizes some things, hence the bathroom scene (which btw I'm totally assuming the bathrooms scene happens at the graduation, it could very well be another occasion). After that maybe they'll at least be friendly again, have a "let's forget what happened" bs moment etc., although they probably still will keep annoying each other, like in the office when Mariana calls Ana a control freak and Ana calls Mariana a confused hippie lol. But it maybe is on and off since there's also a scene where they're with the babies and seem civil and where Ana is talking about how FerrĂĄn was flirting with her, so they probably leave whatever happened in the past... until they realize that they're more than partners... whenever that happens. That one sentence is my lifeline at this point like no joke whenever an obstacle appears, remember that last sentence in ep. 8. I'm gonna be let down so badly if that part ends up being nothing lmaooo but I've decided to trust the show at this point.
While I'm putting my trust in their hands Iâm also trying to keep my hopes low just in case. I'm also very bad at predicting plots so idk. I usually expect the telenovela plots since I'm pretty scarred by them lol but I was expecting a telenovela-ish plot when I first watched the show but then got really surprised afterwards. I feel like this show has a telenovela vibe but without all the parts and plots I usually hate, which is great! The love triangle drama seems like a very telenovela-y plot so I hope they'll eventually remove FerrĂĄn from the both of them. Again, I'm really trusting them here, might be a terrible choice but here we areeee. Our protagonists have also mentioned an alleged third season, so it's okay if MarYAna won't be endgame just yet, maybe they're saving that for the third one! :)

You know I canât resist sending a prompt or two (or threeâŚ.). Some ideas for fics or meta - how much communication do you think Ian and Mickey had between Ian leaving prison and Mickey leaving prison in s10 and/or how would you write it differently? (e.g. I would have loved if Ian had been there to meet Mickey when he got out) - what thoughts (if any) do you think S1 Mickey had about Ian before they hooked up? - how do they celebrate their second wedding anniversary?
Okay so, you got me hooked with the Ian waiting for Mickey when he got out of prison.
I, personally, considered it a lost opportunity when it came to that specific plotline, and I remember reading a sort of fix-it fic where Ian ends up meeting Mickey right when he got out, and freaking loving it. First off, the conceptâif it had come to lifeâwould've presented an amazing parallel to s2ep2 when Ian greets Mickey with Mandy when he comes out of juvie.
We have Mickey who, years ago, had shrugged off Ian's arm off his shoulder, had acted super nonchalant about Ian's over-all presence (despite the fact we know they're becoming closer, and Ian's visited Mickey on multiple occasions), and was simply denying himself of all the emotions he had surrounding Ian, who he was finally able to see without glass separating them. So imagine, in season 10, Mickey getting out and finally indulging himself.
He allows himself to look forward to seeing Ian. Imagine the anticipation that had followed when he told Ian over the brief phone call they had that he was getting out soon; that even though they didn't see it coming, he was finally coming home. Mickey made sure to let Ian know the exact time of his release (Ian, who was so unbelievably excited and happy). He spent the remaining days in prison day-dreaming about finally reuniting with the only person he loves unconditionally in this world (the same person he was itching to get away from weeks before, but whatever), and finally getting out of the god-forsaken place for good.
When the time finally comes, I imagine it being sort of similar like it was with Lip and Ian, yet not similar at all.
Mickey waits for the gate to buzz open. He sees Ian waiting for him patiently, a wide grin on his face (again, Ian, who had arrived twenty minutes early, just because).
Mickey feels his palms getting sweaty because Ian Gallagher is annoyingly handsome, and he is Mickey's boyfriend, the love of his fucking life, standing there, waiting for him to finally get out and be free in the outside world.
The first thing Ian does is pull Mickey into a hug. He's missed him so much. He feels like the world is finally able to continue rotating on its axis now that Mickey's back in his arms. He breathes him in, makes sure to inhale deeply because, fuck, he's missed Mickey's fucking scent. Mickey lets it happen. Lets Ian grip him tight like he's going off to war, and wraps his own arms around Ian's wide back because he's missed him just the same.
Now, don't get me wrongâthe episode six kiss was fucking perfect, no matter how short. But imagine how amazing it would have been if we saw Ian pulling Mickey into a deep kiss, right in front of that goddamn prison. Just kissing the life out of him because he can. Pressing their lips together with such force that Mickey ends up being tipped back, and Ian has to stop him from toppling over onto his back by wrapping his arms lower around his torso.
Neither of them care or mind.
Mickey's out of prison and Ian is finally allowed to breathe again. His life is back with him. He doesn't have to worry about feeling uncared for, or misunderstood (or forgotten). And Mickey's finally out of prison, ready to start his life, away from incarceration. He's not on the run; he's not in Mexico or some other foreign country.
He's with Ian, just like he's always wanted to be.
And they go from thereâI would have loved if some things in season 10 would have been done differently, but fuck it, the ending was all worth it.
---------
My dear Calli, here's something short for the other two prompts because you were so sweet to send them and I'd hate to disappoint â¤ď¸:
I think Mickey had seen Ian around before they hooked up. Nothing much, honestly. Nothing to really peak his interest besides huh, ginger alien motherfucker. But Ian definitely spikes his attention after the whole fiasco with Mandy, and maybe Mickey might be a little more attracted to the ginger fucker than he initially thought ;)
Oh, second anniversary? All I'm going to say is gallavich week day three. (hehe)

The Rewatch Academy: Episode 3 of Season 1
âExtra Ordinaryâ
I am in no way a good analyst so my little analysis and speculations probably sound a bit goofy or pretty wild and probably mean nothing at all. Everything I put into this post about each episode is purely what I noticed or thought, whether it's funny or serious. I will be making jokes, so please just leave it at that (in no way am I trying to make fun of an actor and or character!) I am also in no way saying I noticed this stuff first. This is just what I noticed while rewatching these episodes
â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â âÂ
1x01Â |Â 1x02Â | 1x03 | 1x04 |
â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â
â First off Iâd like to say that this is one of my favorite episodes of this season. Itâs just soooo good
â The second comic book in the window features the Televator from the actual comics, so that has to be canon in the show! Also at the time that that second comic came out, Five had already left since we donât see him on the cover
â Itâd be cool if they actually printed Vanyaâs book for fans to read
â Well Diego isnât wrong when he called Hazel and Cha Cha animals because of their masks
â Honestly I feel Vanyaâs struggle with chair placement. Iâve fortunately had the luck of playing in all three clarinet chair placements, but 1st chair is challenging. I personally found each placement very fun to play, especially 3rd, and I hope Vanya does too! (why am I talking like sheâs real)
â Hazel talks about people living ordinary lives, but didnât he live like that too at one point? How does The Commission recruit people? If they get ordinary people, do they wipe their memories of their previous lives?
â âLetâs seeâem get out from behind their desks, get their hands dirty for once.â Well Hazel, Five does indeed do this even though he only had a desk job for a day. Still, he got to experience both worlds
â My mind is blanking on this, but how did Five get that cut on his arm? Was it from a bullet wound at Gimbelâs?Â
â Five must have a high pain tolerance to stitch his own wound but his bandaid probably wouldnât stick due to the wet blood he slapped it over. Five sweetie you need a cotton pad and gauze for that one
â Wait, youâre telling me that The Umbrella Academy boysâ top uniform consists of a tank top, a white dress shirt, a tie, a sweater vest, and then the blazer? Someone asked Reginald what he wanted for the uniforms and he just said âYes.â
â Five: *puts hands in pockets only to immediately take them out*
â Aidan almost sounds like he has an accent when he says âI'm done funding your drug habit.âÂ
â Fiveâs so soft talking to his wife
â No Leonard, your bread and butter is being a creep
â Also, he thinks wood carving is embarrassing? If someone came up to me and showed me something they carved out of wood I would be so jealous cause itâs such a neat form of art
â Leonard saying that he carved wood, and in that case wooden figures, when he was a kid is a slight foreshadow of all of his tampering with his Umbrella Academy figures. He can make wooden figures but heâs also destroyed a handful of the Hargreeves figuresÂ
â âNever really did like The Beatles.â Well sir youâve made me dislike you even more
â Vanya asking Allison if her siblings wanted her at the family meeting bugs me a bit. I absolutely get that she was literally left out of anything and everything that had to do with her siblings when she was younger, but Allison just asked her to come back home for a family meeting. Allison wouldn't have walked around looking for Vanya only to tell her that they were having a family meeting and that she wasnât actually invited. Allison is including her in on a family meeting but Vanya is just in a bit of disbelief that sheâs being included
â Ah yes, the only PTSD flashback for Five we see in the show! He looks so scared when he snaps out of it. I believe it was somehow triggered by the kids (I could be wrong) but do you think Five sometimes panics when he looks at himself in the mirror now since his body is the same age it was when he got stuck? Also itâs very subtle but when Luther opens the door, Five slightly jerks/flinches back. I wish we would see more of this in the show since itâs one of his major traumas
â âDoes it matter? Itâs Klaus.â Ouch! Well Five I hope you know that your siblings are somewhat thinking the same thing since they believe that youâve lost your mind and are practically an old man crying âApocalypse!âÂ
â Five does an ever so slight huff and smirk when Luther tells him that the meeting at the Academy is important. He finds it a little funny but so frustrating in his mind that Luther doesnât know whatâs truly important
â Also I love that Aidan has to turn to the side so that he can keep it together after Klaus talks about his chocolate pudding waxing. Either that or heâs portraying Five as being frustrated and in disbelief. Also this is the first time Iâve noticed that he says âAy, ay ay...âÂ
â âWeâre all you have. And you know it.â Oh Luther, youâre failing to see that thatâs why heâs acting like this right now. Heâs all frantic and crazed about trying to stop the apocalypse so that he can protect and save all that he has
â Five certainly is mad at Luther during his mini lecture. Heâs clenching his jaw tightly and when he first speaks he hisses out the words through gritted teeth. He even called Luther by his number. Heâs very impatient at this point and doesnât care for Lutherâs act of attempting to be a leader
â This is their first, and certainly not last, time watching Klaus go by in front of them doing something he shouldnât be doing
â âYou havenât been home in a long time, Vanya.â Sir you were also just on the moon for four years. Yeah Vanya was away for a long time but Grace easily could have changed too during the four years you were gone
â How sweet, even though Five hasnât really been home they want to include him in on the family vote :]
â Iâve noticed that in S1 that David really mumbles his lines. A lot
â I wish we got more flashbacks of the younger Umbrellas
â Diego my beloved mamaâs boy âĽď¸
â Itâs confusing as to which country TUA takes place in, but itâs really not supposed to be a specific one. Itâs portrayed as being in North America, but you can see behind Cha Cha when she gets out of the car at the Academy the flag of the RAF, which Canada would have at a monument since itâs a Commonwealth country. At the same time though Delores came from Gimbels, which was a department store chain across the U.S
â The light above Fiveâs portrait is slightly crooked, which probably means no one has really been paying attention to it
â It makes me nervous that Klaus wipes bubbles onto his face. It looks like he got some in his eyes
â Ugh I love the whole scene of Hazel and Cha Cha walking around the Academy with âWeâre Throughâ playing
â Diego: *has knives but instead chooses to punch and hit Hazel to try to make him let go of Allisonâ
â A rope-a-dope is a boxing tactic of pretending to be trapped against the ropes, goading an opponent to throw tiring ineffective punches. Diego sweetie Hazel wasnât even trying to get you off of him all he was doing was choking Allison. The only person who got tired was probably you
â Whatâs the point in Diego yelling âLuther, go!â if heâs already going đ
â Luther was there immediately when Hazel attacked Vanya. That means that Luther heard Vanya and was going to go get her to safety
â I will never stop signing my praise for the entirety of the âSinnermanâ fight scene(s). It gives me chills every single time. Easily one of the best scenes in all of the show
â Klaus must really have his music blasting if he canât hear the gun shots right next to him
â Iâve always wondered if Allison actually registered in her mind that âThe boyâ is Five when Cha Cha says thatâs who theyâre looking for. Either she does realize thatâs Five, is simply just angry that those two are looking for a boy, or registers in her mind that itâs Five through his superhero codename even though Cha Chaâs not referring to him in that way
â Diego is full on just standing in the background watching Allison get beat up by Cha Cha đ´
â I love Diegoâs little hand flap when he gets hit in the hand fighting Cha Cha
â Okay so I make everything about Five, but the whole Cha Cha fight scene with Allison and then Diego kind of scares me. Cha Cha and Hazel are both amazing assassins (theyâre both probably right below Five) and neither Allison nor Diego could stop her by themselves. Could you imagine Five fighting one of his siblings? Especially with his spatial jumps? We already got a glimpse of his true combat skills when he fights Lila in S2. What a scary little old man
â âVanya, get out of here!â Again, wanting to make sure that Vanya is safe and gets away. He even tried to go look for her
â Something I donât really get about the Hazel and Luther fight is why doesnât Luther just overpower him? Luther has super strength and on top of that he has giant muscles due to the gorilla DNA. Shouldnât he be able to beat Hazel to a pulp? Maybe we have to consider that Hazel might have been altered by The Commission to be stronger and more durable, but they havenât mentioned that in the show
â âAh, you gotta cut down on that fast food, soldier.â What are you talking about Diego he literally just got off the moon two days ago aflksjfdk
â So Luther was too injured to jump out of the way of the chandelier but was able to push it up off of himself? đ¤
â I personally think that Lutherâs body design adaptation for the show is really cool and that they gave him the perfect amount of bulk without making him look ridiculous
â This has been pointed out before, but cross-stitch foreshadowing, babyÂ
â Again, Diego my beloved mamaâs boy âĽď¸
â Well at least Diego thought about Vanya dying before thinking about his siblings dying because of her. The latter is ironic!
â The clock above Lutherâs mirror reads approximately 1:30 am. Hazel and Cha Cha didnât want to wait until morning
â I wonder how different it would be if Five was present at the Academy when Hazel and Cha Cha attacked. He probably would have surrendered himself to them, but it's fun to entertain the idea that he would go apeshit if he knew that they were harming his family in order to find him
âââââââ

Bucky Barnes imagines - Some Sunny Day Part 4
AN: What a crazy episode! I definitely think this episode was one of the best so far and I cannot wait to see what happens next after that insane ending!
Overall Summary: Before the Blip, you and Bucky were close. After you both returning and Tonyâs funeral, you decided to go back to your home town to spend time with your family. When duty calls, you return. Â
In this chapter: Now in Latvia, you and the boys must find Karli before the Dora take Zemo away (Based on S1 EP4)
(PART 1) (PART 2) (PART 3)
Pairing(s): Bucky Barnes x Fem!Reader, Sam Wilson x Platonic!Reader
Word Count: 6,123
Warnings: Spoilers for episode 4, violence, strong language.
Once inside Zemoâs apartment, you started to look through the cupboards.Â
Zemo had excused himself to take a bath but you felt starved.Â
Even with the limited stock you managed to whip something up for you and Sam.Â
âThank you.â Sam took the bowl from you gratefully. The food Zemo had given you on his private plane wasnât exactly edible and you were still feeling the affects of the Nagel fail in your body.Â
âWell, the Wakandans are here.â Bucky announced as he entered the apartment; having returned from his walk. âThey want Zemo. Bought us some more time.â
ââWere you followed?â Sam looked up at him.Â
âNo.â Bucky made his way over to you and Sam by the kitchen island.Â
âHow can you be so sure?â Zemo pondered.Â
âCause I know when Iâm being followed.â Bucky sent an unimpressed glance to the man in the bathrobe.Â
You pushed a bowl of pasta towards Bucky but he shook his head and pulled out his phone.
âIt was sweet of you to defend me at least.â Zemo stated.Â
âHey, you shut it.â Sam quipped. âNo oneâs defending you. You killed Nagel.âÂ
âYou gotta eat.â You whispered to Bucky.Â
âDo we really have to litigate what may or may not have happened?â Zemo rounded the island so he was closer to you all.
âIâll eat later.â Bucky mumbled back to you as he furrowed his brow at twitter.Â
âThereâs nothing to litigate. You straight shot the man.â Sam argued with Zemo.Â
âSam.â Bucky had found something.Â
âWhat?â Sam turned his attention to Bucky and away from Zemo.Â
âKarli bombed a GRC supply depot.â Bucky showed you his phone screen so you could read.
âWhat? Whatâs the damage?â Samâs concern grew quickly.Â
âEleven injured, three dead.â You said after skimming over the article.Â
âThey have a list of demands and are promising more attacks if those demands arenât met.â Bucky added as Sam sighed.Â
âSheâs getting worse.â Zemo spoke up. âI have the will to complete this mission. Do the three of you?â
âSheâs just a kid.â Sam was right. She was only young, she reminded you of you when you first joined the avengers. Desperate to fight for a cause.Â
âYouâre seeing something in her that isnât there.â Zemo disagreed. âYouâre clouded by it. Sheâs a supremacist. The very concept of a Super Soldier will always trouble people. Itâs that warped aspiration that led to Nazis, to Ultron, to the Avengers.â
âYouâre talking about our friends.â You felt the need to remind Zemo that you were actually apart of the Avengers as you placed your empty bowl in the sink.Â
âThe Avengers, not the Nazis.â Bucky felt the need to clarify.Â
âSo, Karli is radicalised, but there has to be a peaceful way to stop her.â Sam was determined there wasnât a need for a fight.Â
âThe desire to become a superhuman cannot be separated from supremacist ideals. Anyone with that serum is inherently on that path. She will not stop. She will escalate until you kill her.â Zemo explained as he reached for the bowl you had originally offered Bucky. âOr she kills you.âÂ
You swatted his hand away to which he frowned at.Â
âMaybe youâre wrong, Zemo. The serum never corrupted Steve.â Bucky argued his point.Â
âTouchĂŠ.â Zemo picked up a biscuit instead. Holding it on his finger as he spoke. âBut there has never been another Steve Rogers, has there?â
âWell, maybe we should give him to the Wakandans right now.â Bucky suggested to you and Sam as he moved over to the couch.Â
âAnd youâll give up your tour guide?â Zemo asked as he opened the cupboards to look for some food.Â
âYes.â Bucky didnât hesitate.Â
âFrom my understanding, Donya is like a pillar of the community, right?â Sam interrupted with a new thought. âSo, when I was a kid, my TT passed away.â
âYour TT?â Bucky asked, unsure of what Sam had meant.Â
âYeah, my TT, yeah.â Sam nodded.Â
âWho is your TT?â Bucky asked as you sat down beside him.Â
âFine. When I was a kid, my aunt passed away and the entire neighborhood got together for a ceremony. It was like a week long. Maybe theyâre doing the same thing for Donya.â Sam proposed. He could be right.Â
âWorth a shot.â You proclaimed.Â
âYour TT would be proud of you.â Zemo sounded more awkward at the use of the phrase before he pulled out a fancy looking tin. âTurkish delight? Irresistible.â
Sam caught the small sweet that Zemo had thrown.Â
âI say Zemo putâs some clothes on and we head over to the refugee camp that Donya was staying. See if anyone knows anything about a funeral or ceremony for her.â You ignored Zemo as he looked down at the sweets.Â
âSounds like a plan.â Sam stood from his seat at the island and looked over at Zemo.Â
Zemo nodded before disappearing into a bedroom to change.Â
It didn't take long to get to the camp from Zemoâs apartment.Â
âShame whatâs become of this place. When I was young, we used to come here for fabulous dinners and parties. I knew nothing of the politics of the time, of course, but I remember it being beautiful.â Zemo seemed saddened by the state of the buildings being used as the camp.Â
âIâm gonna take a look around upstairs. See what you can find out here. And keep an eye on him.â Sam told Bucky as he gestured to Zemo.Â
âIâll stay out of your way.â Zemo promised.Â
â(Y/n), you look around through there. See if you can... You know.â Sam pointed down through one of the ground floor doors. You nodded and left the men.
Most of the adults fled when you entered the building but you noticed a young girl who looked too busy with what she was doing to notice. She had looked maybe 16 or 17 years old and she was embroidering an old silk scarf.Â
âThatâs beautiful.â You knelt down beside her but as you spoke, her eyes shot up and widened with shock and fear.Â
âT-t-thank you.â She stuttered as her eyes flittered around the room for help.Â
âItâs okay. I was just wondering if I could have a look at it.â You smiled softly at the girl as you held your hand out.Â
She reluctantly gave it to you.Â
âThis truly is beautiful. You are very talented. May I buy it from you?â You placed your hand in your pocket and pulled out a note that you had previously stolen from Zemoâs jacket.
âYou c-c-can have it.â She whispered as she stood. You rose with her as you folded the scarf to place into your pocket.Â
âI insist.â You took her hand gently and cautiously and placed the money in her palm. She smiled but she still was nervous and full of worry. You figured she knew who you were.Â
You folded your hands over hers and thatâs when you unplugged the cork on your powers.Â
You closed your eyes and within seconds all the girls memories flooded into your head.Â
You tried not to react as it happened.Â
You tried your best to filter through the memories quickly. When you reached the time after the blip, you slowed down. You saw the horrors of them being rejected, being abandoned and then you saw Mama Donya and Karli.Â
You focused on Karli.Â
You watched Karli smile and laugh with all the children, sheâd play and look after them as Donya looked after Karli.Â
Closer memories brought what seemed like events that only just happened. Karli visiting with supplies.Â
You saw the mourning of Mama Donya from everyone and then you saw the arrangements for the funeral.Â
You opened your eyes and let go of the girls hand. She thanked you again and left. She would have never realised what you had seen as the memories are shown to you within a matter of seconds.Â
You leant against the table and inhaled deeply.Â
You felt weak again.Â
You pushed yourself off the table and headed back out to Bucky.Â
Zemo was surrounded by a bunch of small children.
âYou okay?âBucky asked. The second you reappeared he immediately noticed a change in you.Â
âIâm okay.â You lied. âI spoke to one of the teenagers inside. I looked inside her head. You were right, Sam. They are having a funeral but she only knew that she would be taken to it later this afternoon.â You explained as Sam joined you both.Â
âGood work.â Sam wrapped his arm around you and gave you a small squeeze of appreciation.Â
They both knew how hard it must've been for you to use your powers after the Nagel incident.Â
The toll of touching the dead had knocked you for six in the past and in a matter of forty eight hours you had touched the dead and looked into the memories of a live person.Â
Youâll need an energy boost before you can do this again.Â
Zemo turned back to you and you all returned to the apartment.Â
âWell, I got nothinâ. No oneâs talkinâ about Donya.â Bucky slouched down on the couch in defeat.Â
âYeah, itâs because Karli is the only one fighting for them.â Sam joined him on the couch. âAnd sheâs not wrong.â
âWhat do you mean?â Bucky asked.Â
âFor five years, people have been welcomed into countries that have kept them out using barbwire. There were houses and jobs. Folks were happy to have people around to help them rebuild. It wasnât just one community coming together, it was the entire world coming together. And then, boom. Just like that, it goes right back to the way it used to be. To them, at least Karliâs doinâ somethinâ.â Sam explained himself.Â
âYou really think her ends justify her means? Then, sheâs no different than him or anybody else weâve fought.â Bucky pointed over to Zemo.Â
âSheâs different. Sheâs not motivated by the same things.â Sam argued with Bucky.
âSamâs right.â You spoke up. âWhen I looked into that girls head I saw a lot of Karli. She means a lot to those people, she is their light, their Captain America. But sheâs just a kid. From what I saw she has a whole lot of love in her heart and I'm not saying that hurting and killing people is right but she sees it as the only way to help her people.âÂ
Zemo had walked over from the kitchen with a tray as you spoke.Â
âThat little girl. Whatâd she tell you?â Bucky questioned him.Â
âThe funeral is this afternoon.â Zemo only said what you already knew.Â
âWe know that. Now you know the Doraâs coming for you any minute. In fact, theyâre probably lurking outside right now. Keep talking.â Bucky demanded.Â
âLeaving you to turn on me once we get to Karli. Hmm. I prefer to keep my leverage.â Zemo sure knew how to push someoneâs buttons.Â
Bucky shot up and threw Zemoâs cup against the wall. The crashing of the glass made both you and Sam jump to your feet.Â
âYou wanna see what someone can do with leverage?â Bucky threatened Zemo.Â
âTake it easy. Donât engage him. Heâs just gonna extort you and do that stupid head tilt thing.â Sam tried to de-elevate the situation. âLet me make a call.â
âYou want some cherry blossom tea?â Zemo offered Bucky as Sam walked away.
âNo, you go ahead.â Bucky grumbled, scowling at the Baron.Â
âCome on.â You took Buckyâs hand and pulled him away from Zemo.Â
You headed into the bathroom and started to fill up the tub with some cold water.Â
âWill you get me some ice?â You asked Bucky to which he complied.Â
Once the tub was full of ice water, you stripped and climbed inside.Â
Bucky had taken a stool and faced the door to give you some privacy.Â
âYou shouldnât let him get to you.â You said as you settled into the water. Your body was screaming at you as the ice touched it but you knew itâd give you the wake up call you and your muscles needed.Â
âI donât.â Bucky grimaced.Â
âYou donât? Oh, so the shattered cup in the other room was just a scare tactic?â You mused.Â
âYep.â Bucky grumbled.Â
âOkay.â You sighed before going under.Â
The cold water hit your brain and you immediately sat back up.Â
âFeel better?â Bucky had heard the splashing of the water.Â
âYeah.â You admitted, running your hands over your face and hair. âCan I have my towel?â
Bucky kept his back to you as he passed you the towel.Â
You wrapped it around you and stepped out.Â
âYou can look.â You told him.
Bucky turned and his eyes went straight to the bruises that covered your legs and arms.Â
âIâm okay, Buck.â You assured him as you watched the cogs turning in his head.Â
âI forget you arenât...â Buckyâs words dropped off as he stepped closer and lightly took your arm, examining the damage.Â
âThat Iâm not a super soldier?â You smirked. âI may bruise but I can hold a lot more than most, Buck.âÂ
âDoesnât stop me worrying.â Bucky admitted as he lowered your arm.Â
âI know.â You whispered, looking up at the manâs deep blue eyes.
âYou better get dressed. You already know what Sam is thinking with us both being gone right now.â Bucky went to go towards the door when you stopped him.Â
âI had a dream about Wakanda on the plane ride here.â You confessed.Â
Bucky stopped and looked back at you.Â
âIt was the day you finally beat the Winter Soldier.â You told him.Â
*Flashback*
âThese are incredible, Shuri.â Â You smiled widely as you threw the new high tech Vibranium knives that Shuri had made for you.Â
âI know. I know.â Shuri was well aware of her awesome brain.Â
Shuri pressed the combat button on the wall which simulated attackers for intense weapon training.Â
You inhaled as you closed your eyes.Â
A footstep gave away your first attacker. You threw the knives to the holograms and the attackers were down. You ducked and dodged and jumped around the room as you practised with the knives.Â
Shuri cheered you when you finished. You smiled through your heavy breaths and Shuri jogged towards you to give you a fist bump.Â
âYou are something else, my friend.â Shuri praised you.Â
The doors opening behind you made both you and Shuri turn to see who had entered.Â
It was Bucky.Â
He rushed towards you with a bright smile. His lips seemed to quiver and his eyes were glassy. Something had happened.Â
It had happened.
He embraced you tightly and you returned it. Your fingers gripped onto Buckyâs long hair as he buried his face in your neck.Â
You looked back at Ayo (who had followed Bucky) and Shuri and mouthed a âThank youâ.Â
Ayo bowed her head at you before leaving the hall.Â
Bucky had finally gotten over HYDRAâs programming after all these years of being held prisoner by a few words.Â
You and Bucky stayed like that for what felt like hours. The relief from Bucky washed over you and bound him to you until he was ready to part.Â
It was an incredible day.
*End of Flashback*
âMaybe you could sense that the Doraâs were close on our tails.â Bucky suggested.Â
âNo, we all knew that theyâd come for Zemo eventually.â You dismissed the idea. âI think it was after seeing Zemo treat you like him again.âÂ
Bucky remained silent.Â
âI donât think I ever told you how proud I was of you that day.â You folded your arms over your chest as you leant back on the tub.
âYou didn't need to.â Bucky assured you. âI already knew.âÂ
You watched Bucky leave the bathroom so you could change.Â
When you had returned to the main space again it was just about time to head out again.Â
You felt a little nervous as you didnât really want a fight with Karli since you werenât 100% but you figured you had felt a hell of a lot worse before.
As you left the apartment, a voice and face you didnât particularly wanna see called out.Â
âKarli Morgenthau is too dangerous for you guys to be pulling this shit.â John Walker and his little side kick were walking down some stairs towards you.Â
âAh! Howâd you find us now?â Bucky called back.Â
âCome on. You think three Avengers can walk around Latvia without drawing attention?â Lemar, Walkerâs partner, scoffed.Â
âNo more keeping us in the dark. You could start by telling us why you broke him out of prison.â Walker pointed out Zemo.Â
âHe did that himself, technically.â Bucky corrected Walker. Â
âThis better be an unbelievable explanaâââ
âââHey, take it easy before it gets weird.â Sam interrupted Walker before things could get heated in front of civilians.
âI know where Karli is.â Zemo kept walking as the others stopped.Â
âWell, where?â Walker asked, stopping Zemo by stepping in his way.Â
âAll we know is itâs a memorial. So, weâre gonna intercept her there.â Sam informed them.
âThat means civilians. High risk of casualties.â Lemar relaid to his partner as you continued to walk.
âAll right, good, weâll move in fast. Take her by surprise.â Walker started to talk through his plan when Sam stopped him.Â
âNo, I wanna talk to her alone.â
âIâm not losing her again.â Walker argued with Sam.Â
âLook, the person closest to her died, sheâs vulnerable. Now is the best time to reason with her.â Sam was trying to defend his reasoning but Walker wasnât having it.Â
âWhat? No. Wait, no! No! Stop. Hold on. Stop, okay?â Walker ran up ahead to stop everyone again. âI think weâre way past reasoning with her, unless you forgot that she blew up a building with people still in it.âÂ
âSam, you walk in there cold, she could kill you, man.âLemar tried backing up his partner.Â
âIf I go in hot and the op goes wrong, more people will die.â Sam handed over the other scenario.Â
âYouâll let him do this?â Walker looked between you and Bucky. âAre you gonna let your partner walk into a room with a Super Soldier alone?â
âHeâs dealt with worse.â Bucky told him flatly. âAnd heâs not my partner.â
âI used to counsel soldiers dealing with trauma, okay? This is in my wheelhouse.â Sam walked past you and Bucky to face Walker.
âI know. And I know those soldiers, which is why I know this is a bad idea.â Walker still wasn't on board.Â
âWait, John.â Lemar stopped Walker.  âIf he can talk her down, it might be worth a try.â Â
âThank god Battle-scar here has some sense.â You declared.Â
âItâs Battle Star actually.âLemar smiled at you but you ignored him.Â
âWeâll deal with you later.â Walker told Zemo as he caved in.
âIâm sure it will all come to an agreeable conclusion. My associate is just up ahead.â Zemo lead you towards the young girl he had spoken to earlier that day.Â
âHello, my friend. This is for your family. Can you show us the way?â Zemo handed her some money and the girl beckoned for you all to follow. Â
âWhat the hell?â Walker seemed a little confused by Zemoâs âassociateâ being 12.
The girl lead you to the building where the funeral was being held and you all waited for a signal.Â
âKarliâs in there.â Zemo announced as the girl ran off.Â
Sam went in whilst Walker cuffed Zemo.Â
âYou got 10 minutes. Then we are doing things my way.â Walker told Sam before he left.Â
âAggressive.â Zemo mumbled after being handcuffed. âBut I get it.â
You rolled your eyes subtly at both Walker and Zemo.Â
You took up a position by the door with Bucky.Â
You watched Walker sit down, his grip on the shield was tight as he slowly huffed in and out.Â
You frowned as you studied the man. Your eyes glanced over to Zemo who was also watching Walker.Â
You shared a look before you let your eyes fall back down to your feet. Â
âUh-uh. No, no, no. This is a bad idea.â Walker started to pace as he let his impatience get the best of him.Â
âIt hasnât been ten minutes, John. Just sit tight.â Bucky sighed unimpressed by the young solder.Â
âDonât do that. Donât patronise me.â Walker glared back at Bucky.Â
âSam knows what heâs doing.â You backed Bucky up.Â
You all watched Walker stop as he thought. His heavy breathes causing his chest to rise up and down quickly.Â
âIâm goinâ in.â Walker didnât want to listen anymore. He stormed towards the door but both you and Bucky stepped in his way.
âThis is all really easy for you, isnât it? All that serum runninâ through your veins.â Walker didnât even look at you as he squared up to Bucky.Â
That really bothered you.
You took hold of the manâs upper arm and yanked him to look at you.Â
âYou may be Captain America right now but we donât follow you. We said weâd give him 10 minutes. So, heâs getting 10 minutes.â You glowered at the man.Â
âYour partner needs backup in there. Do you really want his blood on your hands?â Walker leant towards you, trying to be intimidating but it wasnât working.Â
âJust wait.â You looked the man in the eye with a subtle threat in your stare. His jaw clenched as he tugged his arm away from you.Â
Walker went back to look at the clock again.Â
After a couple more minutes, he tried once more.Â
âTimeâs up! Our turn.â Walker didnât hesitate to push past you as he charged ahead.Â
Bucky kept his tongue in his cheek as he watched it happen.Â
You and Bucky stayed behind Walker and his partner as they marched ahead.
âKarli Morgenthau, youâre under arrest.â Walker announced as he entered the room.Â
âThis is what that was?â Betrayal flashed across Karliâs face as she looked at Sam.Â
âNo, waitâââ Sam didnât have a chance now that Walker had intervened.
âââTricking me until help came?â Karli started to back away.Â
âWe had enough time to talk.â Walker exclaimed as he headed straight for Karli.Â
âNazi! â Karli wasn't going the easy way. She hit Walker back and he went straight into a table.Â
Lemar tried to keep you and Bucky back but you had easily managed to get round him to chase after Karli.Â
Bucky being what he was managed to get ahead of you but you were close on their trail.Â
Sam had found his own way but ultimately you all lost Karli.Â
âI lost her.â Bucky sighed.
âThis place is a maze.â Sam looked around at the several doorways with a frown.Â
The sound of gunshots is what caught your attention next.Â
âCome on.â You rushed through the building trying to get to the source.Â
You didnât manage to get there before Walker did.Â
Zemo was unconscious on the floor and vials of the serum were smashed around the concrete floor.Â
âWhat happened?â You asked as you looked down at the mess.Â
âHe was shooting at Karli. I stopped him but she got away.â Walker lifted his shield a little to symbol how he had stopped Zemo.Â
âLetâs get him up.â Sam started down the stairs and you followed.Â
Zemo woke up after a little encouragement and some smelling salts. You had decided it was best if you split up on your way back to the apartment.Â
You and Sam were going to stay with Zemo and see if you can dig up anything on socials and the computer and Bucky was going to do a round and see if she had holed up anywhere familiar.Â
Sam sat at his computer, he was contacting Sharon whilst you stood with your phone searching Twitter to see if any Flag Smashers appearances or Karli were popping up in recent tweets.Â
Zemo laid down on the couch with a wet towel and a strong glass of scotch.Â
âYou got anything?â Sam asked you.Â
âNothing. IÂ donât think weâll find her this time if she doesnât want us too.â You put your phone down in defeat. It wasn't usual for people to give her Karliâs location anyway.Â
âI think youâre right.â Sam hated to agree but this was the first time you had come close to actually talking Karli down and it failed.Â
âAnd now with the serumâs gone. Who knows what her next move will be.â You knew that Karli didnât have the option to create more super soldiers now and that gives her a disadvantage. The idea of an army is gone now and she would only have her current foot soldiers to help her.Â
Zemo moved for the first time in ten minutes as he lifted his cold compress.Â
âWere you ever offered it?" He asked aloud.Â
âWhat?â Sam furrowed his brow at the man.Â
âThe serum.â Zemo replied.Â
âNo.â Sam smirked at the idea.Â
âIf you had been, hypothetically, that is, would you have taken it?â Zemo inquired.Â
âNo.â Sam answered instantly, his smile dropping.Â
âNo hesitation. Thatâs impressive.â Zemo nodded before removing his towel. âSam. (Y/n). You canât hold out hope for Karli. No matter what you saw in her, sheâs gone. And we cannot allow that she and her acolytes become yet another faction of gods amongst real people. Super Soldiers cannot be allowed to exist.â
âIsnât that how gods talk?â Sam queried. âAnd if thatâs how you feel, what about Bucky?â There was a silence from Zemo. âBlood isnât always the solution.âÂ
Before the conversation could continue, the door opened and Bucky strode inside.
âSomethingâs not right about Walker.â Bucky stated as he removed his jacket.Â
âYou donât say.â Sam huffed with amusement. It was clear as day that Walker was at his wits end with the pressure on him.
âWell, I know a crazy when I see one. Because I am crazy.â Bucky poured himself a glass of whiskey. You rolled your eyes at his statement.Â
âCanât argue with that.â Sam retorted.Â
âShouldnât have given him the shield.â Bucky was back on this topic again.Â
âI didnât give him the shield.â Sam rose to his feet to face Bucky.
âWell, Steve definitely didnât.â Bucky sipped on his drink just as the doors flew open.Â
All right. Thatâs it. Letâs go. Iâm now ordering you to turn him over.â Walker commanded, his face red and his ears steaming.Â
âHey, slow your roll. Shield or no shield, the only thing youâre runninâ in here is your mouth. Now, I had Karli and you overstepped. Heâs actually proven himself useful today. Weâll need all hands on deck for whateverâs cominâ next.â Sam approached Walker to try and pump his breaks.Â
âHow do you want the rest of this conversation to go, Sam, huh?â Walker chuckled softly as Sam remained silent. âYeah. Should I put down the shield? Make it fair?â
Sam scoffed, shaking his head at the manâs antics.Â
Walker put down the shield but the only thing flying next was a spear that struck the pillar by Walkerâs head.Â
It was the Dora Milaje.Â
They had come for Zemo.Â
From your time in Wakanda you understood the language as Ayo spoke to Bucky.Â
âEven if he is a means to an end. Your time is up.â Ayo reverted back to English. âRelease him to us now.âÂ
Walker introduced himself to Ayo, not that she cared for him.
âWell letâs, uh, put the pointy sticks down and we can talk this through, huh?â Walker suggested, only to be met, yet again, by silence from the Doraâs.
âHey, John, take it easy. You might wanna fight Bucky before you tangle with the Dora Milaje.â Sam tried to warn him but he wasnât backing down.Â
âThey donât have jurisdiction hereâââ
âââThe Dora Milaje have jurisdiction wherever the Dora Milaje find themselves to be.â Ayo cut Walker short.Â
âOkay.â John chuckled lightly. âLook, I think we got off on the wrong foot.â Walker made the mistake of putting his hand on Ayoâs shoulder.Â
Ayo responded with an attack.Â
The surrounding Doraâs fell into defence positions as Ayo and Walker fought. Lemar bounced into action, trying to help his partner out but it only warranted in more fighting. Or more asses getting kicked by the Dora Milaje.Â
âWe should do something.â Sam said as you, him and Bucky stood together watching.Â
âLooking strong, John.â Bucky called out.Â
âBucky!â You tried not to laugh as you scolded the man.Â
âGuys...â Sam nodded to Ayo about to strike John with her spear which made Bucky reluctantly intervene.Â
âAyo, letâs talk about this.â Bucky only landed himself directly in the mess.Â
You realised how serious this was as Ayo didnât hold back and went ahead to help Bucky. Sam went over to help Lemar but was met by more Dora's.
You grunted as one of the women attacked you. You had almost forgotten just how incredible they were at combat. Almost.Â
You were backed against a wall with the spear to your chest when the room fell silent.Â
You looked over at Bucky to see his arm was on the floor.Â
You wanted to move towards him but you were stuck until orders were given to release you.Â
âHe is gone. Leave it.â Ayo had opened the bathroom doors to reveal the manhole had been opened. Zemo had escaped.Â
You were trying to slow your breathing when finally the Doraâs fell back.Â
She retracted her spear and left with Ayo and the others.Â
âDid you know they could do that?â Sam asked Bucky as he pushed himself off the floor.Â
Bucky reattached his arm. He groaned as he swung it round to adjust it.Â
âNo.â He said but the shock on his face from before had already given away that answer.Â
You looked past Bucky to where Walker was still on the floor.Â
âYou all right, man?â Lemar offered his hand to help him up.Â
âThey werenât even Super Soldiers.â You heard Walker mutter.Â
âCome on.â Lemar tugged him to his feet.Â
âI canât believe he pulled an El Chapo.â Sam walked over to the bathroom and stared at the hole.Â
âI can.â Bucky wasnât really that surprised and neither were you truthfully.Â
âCome on.â You beckoned the boys out of the apartment so you could talk.Â
You got down to the streets and away from Walker before you spoke again.Â
âWalker isnât stable. Heâs on the brink of cracking.â You kept your voice low as you spoke to the boys.Â
âWhat do you mean?â Sam asked.Â
âWe may not like him but heâs not stupid. He knows that he canât be Steve, do the things Steve did and itâs killing him. He's so obviously trying to win this fight by himself and itâs going to drive him insane if he isnât the one to beat Karli.âÂ
âBut he canât beat Karli. You saw her kick him across the room like he was a cardboard box.â Sam reminded you of what happened earlier.Â
âWe have to get to Karli before he does because heâs either gonna stop her or kill himself trying.â You weren't worried for the man but worried about what would happen if he finally snapped.Â
Suddenly, Samâs phone started to ring. It was his sister.Â
âShe said what? Right. Hold on, hold on. I know, I know. Listen, pack an overnight bag and take the boys...â Sam sounded worried.Â
âWhat happened?â Bucky asked.Â
âKarli called Sarah. She threatened my nephews.â Sam told you both. âOkay. Go somewhere safe. Only pay cash. All right? Tell me when you arrive. I know. Look, I love you. Iâll never let anything happen to you and the boys. Okay. Bye.â He hung up and then immediately texted an unknown number.Â
âWhat does she want?â You knew Karli was desperate but threatening kids was a different story.
âKarli wants to meet. She left a contact number.â Samâs phone buzzed with a new text. âShe said come alone.â
âWeâre coming with you.â Bucky wasnât going to take no for an answer.Â
âAlright but keep your distance.â Sam didnât bother to fight you on it. âWe better suit up.âÂ
You suited up by adding a few more weapons to your body. You placed your favourite thigh holsters on that held your Vibranium knives out on display.Â
Sam got his wings and soon you were at the location.Â
âKarli!â Sam bellowed as you entered the building.Â
Karli leant over a balcony to make herself seen. You remained on the ground floor but looked up at the girl. Bucky followed Sam.Â
âYou called my sister? Thatâs how weâre gonna play this?â Sam was upset and understandably so.Â
âSam, I would never hurt her. I just wanted to understand you better.â Karli confessed.âI see you, um, didnât come alone.âKarli peered down at you then up at Bucky.Â
âYou have to end this now.â Sam told her.Â
âI donât wanna hurt you. Youâre a tool in the regimes Iâm looking to destroy. Youâre not hiding behind a shield. If I were to kill you, itâd be meaningless. I was gonna ask you to join me. Or do the world a favour and let me go.â Karli spoke pretty boldly for someone who seemed to be alone. Super Soldier or not.Â
âHey, Sam, new Cap is moving, looks like heâs found them, or maybe they found him.â Sharonâs voice came through on Samâs intercom.Â
âItâs Walker.â Sam looked down at you and then Bucky.Â
Karli jumped from the balcony at the realisation the jig was up but Bucky was quick to jump too.Â
Karli kicked Bucky back but you managed to weaken Karli as you flipped over and kicked her in the jaw.Â
Sam put her down momentarily as he flew down and kicked her also.Â
âIâll send you the location. Go!â Sam ordered both you and Bucky before he took off.Â
You knew Bucky would be fast enough to run there but you didnât have that luxury.Â
You crossed the street to a parked motorbike and opened up itâs wiring. Just as you managed to get it running, Samâs coordinates came through.Â
You docked your phone and set off.Â
You dodged through the narrow streets and traffic to arrive at another large building. Karli must have a favour for buildings you could get lost in.Â
You drove through the doors and skidded to a stop.Â
Bucky had gotten there before you. You could hear his grunts from a flight or two up.Â
You raced up them only to be met by a super soldier fighting Bucky.Â
You sent a knife forward, it embedded itself into the manâs soldier, he cried out which gave Bucky some time to throw him down the stairs.Â
You tucked up, over the tumbling body, holding onto the railing and the wall.Â
Bucky jumped over the rails and with one final blow knocked the soldier unconscious.Â
âStay there.â Bucky told him before climbing back up to you. He thanked you for the help, handing you back the knife that had been in the manâs shoulder.Â
You then both went ahead to find Sam and Walker.Â
They were fighting more super soldiers a floor up.Â
You didnât hesitate to go in for the attack.
You pulled a knife and threw it to Bucky for help; he caught it midair.Â
You screamed with frustration as the soldier you were fighting, pulled your arm behind you and slammed you into the pillar. You managed to swivel around, taking out the soldiers legs as you freed your arm.Â
You threw a knife into both his biceps. You only intended to injure, not kill, them anyway.Â
He groaned as he pulled them and tried to use them against you.Â
All at once, the fighting stopped when you all witnessed Karli kick Lemar into one of the concrete pillars.Â
Lemarâs body slumped down with blood painted across his lips.Â
John broke free from his attacker and slowly made his way over to Lemar.Â
From the sight of the body, you already knew he wasnât walking out of there.Â
Walker desperately tried to wake him up.Â
Thatâs when Karli took her chance to flee.Â
You and the boys took off after her but lost her again pretty quickly.Â
When you rounded the building, you saw a crowd gathering.Â
What you saw next made you feel psychically sick.Â
John Walker stood above Karliâs right hand man, blood splattered up Steveâs shield and across his uniform.Â
He had killed the man in front of all these civilians. He had killed a man as Captain America.Â
