The bartender’s busy fulfilling orders and Buck’s growing impatient by each second that passes, fruitlessly sipping on what little there is left in his glass, which is mostly just a bit of water from the ice cubes that are slowly melting. In an impulsive move, he removes the straw and tips the glass back, finding relief as he swirls the ice cube in his mouth − that is until someone knocks into him, and Buck tries, and fails, to grab the bartop to keep himself from stumbling over, and next thing he knows the man standing next to him has his arm around Buck’s waist, keeping him steady. He’s looking at Buck, and his lips are moving, but Buck can’t hear what he says over the loud music. It doesn’t matter anyway; because standing in front of him is the prettiest man he has ever laid eyes on. 

“Hi,” Buck says − or tries to anyway, but he can’t quite form the word around the ice cube in his mouth. He grabs his empty glass again and spits it back out before he tries again. “Hi.”

The man smiles at him, and it feels like the clouds are parting and Buck can hear a choir of angels singing overhead. His eyes crinkle at the corners and his nose is scrunched up adorably. “You okay?”

Buck nods. He reaches out and puts his hand on the man’s shoulder. “Thanks,” he says. “For saving me. Wow, you’re…” he trails off, distracted by the feel of strong muscles underneath his palm, and he knows he’s getting carried away the way he’s running his hand over the guy’s very nicely defined bicep, probably a little inappropriately, but the guy doesn’t seem to mind. “...so strong.” Buck mutters under his breath, too quiet for the man to hear him. “What’s your name?” he asks in a louder voice. 

“Tommy.”

“Tommy.” Buck repeats as a smile grows on his face. “Hi, Tommy.”

“Hi…”

“Evan,” Buck hurries to say, suddenly remembering he’s still not introduced himself. 

“Okay, hi, Evan,” Tommy smiles at him again.

I've been musing on Mhin's curse and their relationship with monstrosity again now that we have a silhouette for their full monster form from their standee backing, and the differences between the Halloween artwork posted on RSS's twitter and Bluesky account, respectively.

Their monstrous form promises grotesque body horror: it's emotionally and physically painful, and it looks like Mhin retains a vaguely human silhouette. Their monster form is bipedal, and has what appears to be an arm that might be where their wings split from. Their spine is twisted into a tail-like appendage, and they drip gore behind them as they move.

In the Halloween art, we have two versions of Mhin: one, which is the Mhin we know. And two, with glitchy effects added, another version of Mhin, with the whites of their eyes blackened. I'm willing to bet that this isn't Mhin, but instead some emergence of their monstrous side.

It''s been accepted that monstrosity is painful and abhorrent for Mhin. They despise monsters and monstrosity, repress it in any way they can, and they especially hate monsters who indulge in their own nature.

However, I have two questions as a result of this new art. Firstly, to what extent is their monster form a part of them? For example, is it their id made manifest, their worst impulses and desires unrestrained? Or is it akin to possession, where the monstrosity is imposed forcibly upon Mhin, some outside source implanted in them? Either way, I believe that this monstrosity is now a part of Mhin in a way they refuse to accept.

Secondly, I wonder if any small part of Mhin wants to indulge in monstrosity. Is part of the reason they're so focused on restraint and control and a cure precisely because there's something freeing about the destruction they enact? If Mhin sees themself in Vere and Ais, does a part of them feel jealous of the latter two's lack of restraint and hedonism? And, in turn, does this jealousy only reinforce their own self-hatred for considering, even for a moment, what it would be like to let go?

YAYA ITS SO AWESOME GAHH IM SO INVESTED 😭!!!! i actually just caught up in the manga to where i am in the anime!! (on ep 81, and on chapter 134!!!) i've shed lots of tears, laughed, and had my heart touched many times since starting it- i'm totally in love!!! I even cried at the same places i did while watching it when reading manga, ahaha!!!

the characters, the world, the designs, the dreams and ambitions everyone has is SOOOSOSO fun and like, inspiring.. just so good-feeling, i'll even wake up and be like "man, can't wait to watch/read one piece today"

the friendships/bonds created between everyone feels like, so strong- its really beautiful! I love how much fun the fights are, and i really adore the small moments between everyone (like when sanji brings out foods/drinks and everyone kinda just, chills and eats?? the food component of things feels so important too, I love seeing what they eat, idk why haha!!!)

i feel like other shows i love don't have enough time to just see everyone hanging out... it makes me so happy, im really thankful for those moments

also i would take a bullet for any of the strawhats in miliseconds!!! an instant!!!! anything for them!!

pata hai last kuch din i was very busy with my project kyunki final dena tha and binding karni thi etc to wo karwayi then i went to the bookfair bekaar tha then parso submit karne jaa rahi to subah accident hogaya (bhai ki bike skid hogayi and we fell down) and now i have a big ass blue bruise on my upper thigh and my parents don't even know lmao and kal ek science conference thi to i had to sit in an auditorium for 6 hours listening to accomplished people speak. that's what you missed now your turn

Have you or a loved one ever known a character without a face, without an image? A character that just never showed up on screen, a character who might just be a bit too camera-shy? Well you, my friend, are in the right place!

This is the No Design Derby, a tournament for characters who don't have an official design! To a completely obscured design, to a form they can take but just never did on screen, you can submit them and maybe see them fight against another faceless friend!

To submit, you can either: Reblog, and put the character name and what media they're from in the tags. This way, every time someone submits, the tournament gets spread around for more and more to see! Submit via the form, which allows anonymously submitting characters if you're shy! I still would appreciate any reblogs to spread this around!

There is no deadline! Submissions close when I hit 32 characters!

Rules may change here and there as more people discuss how the derby should go (I've never done this before) but right now, here are the rules!

Rules:

No irredeemable media. If I view the character you submit to be from a piece of media that is problematic, I will ignore the submission.

I'd put no real life people here, but.. I think that literally wouldn't even be possible?

Character must have, if not all, most of their design obscured. We can kindly debate over whether or not a character may count, but basically, a character who only has their face obscured will be ignored.

Characters in an on-going series who have been mentioned and could appear eventually are allowed.

Podcast characters will be allowed, but will most likely be limited to one character per podcast.

If the character is super obscure, and I can't find any info on them from a google search, I may not include them. You can describe the character and their role in their media in the tags if they dont show up quickly on a google search.

Also regarding obscurity, don't be afraid to submit characters from less popular media! Characters without designs aren't too common anyway, so if we have to dive deep for a big bracket, that's fine!
