Alpha-methylphenethylamine

Also know as amphetamine or the street name speed. It is a white powder you can consume in many ways for example swallowing it orally or snorting which is the common way to consume it. I believe that amphetamine was first introduced in Germany. It was mainly used in both of the world wars. The state gave amphetamine to the soldiers in order to make them stay aware of their surroundings in the battle field and also to make them stay awake for a longer period of time. So in short, it was used to enhance the soldiers performance in the wars.

What it does:

to human mind:

Speed does what the name says. It gives you that speed plus energy and makes you more focused. It is a stimulant and an upper, just like MDMA (ecstasy), however the difference between them two is that it has a lot less of that lovey dovey feeling. The reason behind that is because speed doesn't release as much serotonin as ecstasy does. But you can still get euphoric feelings from speed, because it releases a large amount of dopamine. Also you become way more aware of your surroundings, like I disscused before. Some experience becoming significantly more impulsive and usually act or express their first thought right away. On amphetamine you tend to be substantially more talkative, so any subject that is being discussed feels way more interesting and intriguing than normal and it is easier to open up to others and get to know others. In other words you become way more social.

to human body:

Amphetamine increases dopamine and so on...which lead to an heightened libido (sexdrive), so you might feel a little extra freaky. Most people that are under the influence of speed also have a hard time finding the desire for food and eating is difficult. Pupil enlargment is guaranteed for this stimulant (like for most stimulants) and the heart tend to beat a lot faster without having to make any physical effort. This is probably because your body has an excess amount of adrenaline. When amphetamine is consumed in large amounts you also experience brightness alterations depending on what environment you are in you perceive light in different ways. Which can make you see darker or lighter. Another thing that is common, is that you see traces when an object or body part move. Like if you waved your hand infront of you...you would see like a transparent shadow of you hand. You can experience traces with other substances as well. Speed could also make you grind your teeth however it isn't as intense as MDMA. I personally never experienced grinding my teeth from amphetamine.

What it is/was used for:

Nowadays doctors usually prescribe this drug to people with the mental disorder ADHD, because it enhances focus. With the help of this substance it gives them the opportunity to stay productive and not distracted. However just because doctors prescribe this drug as a solution to "treat" ADHD does not mean it is going to work for everybody. In the 1930-40s amphetamine was used as a cure for alcohol hangover and as a way to lose weight if you were obese, because of its appetite suppression. Also as I mentioned in the beginning of this thread...amphetamine "was used to enhance the soldiers performance in the wars."

The risks:

There are always risks to every drug you consume. The danger of amphetamine/speed is that this is a drug that has a high abuse potential. It is very easy to just re-dose once the first high wears down. Making you repeat a constant cycle of re-doses that never ends unless you run out of the drug. Amphetamine insufflated by the nose is gonna make the peak last about 1-2 hours, and then comes the offset which lasts 1.5-3 hours. So when that peak start to wear off you crave that feeling again. It is a pattern many get pulled in and is hard to break. So it just ends with that you made yourself addicted to a drug that only give you a temporary feeling, just like every other drug. Not only can you become addicted to it but you also risk having health issues, such as high blood pressure, increased probability for a stoke, irregular heartbeat and other cardiovascular issues.

If you snort amphetamine often the substance may burn the nose hairs away. We need the small hairs in our noses to block bacterias and other viruses from getting into our body. So when our nose don't have that function anymore we can become sick way easier and more regular. Because amphetamine is a corrosive substance it could disintegrate the cartilage inside the nose making a hole on the inside of your nose. And if you consume amphetamine orally you risk chemically burn the stomach and induce toxic effects on the liver.

Downsides:

If that wasn't enough, the after effects of amphetamine last about 3-5 hours depending on how it's been consumed and that is the most intense part of the comedown. You experience a comedown some time after consuming a substance and after its peak has vanished fully. In a comedown you can feel, anxiety, easily irritated also you have lower energy levels resulting in a dull mood and some become even sad and feel like crying. These feelings can even carry on into the whole next day. It is very unpleasant, however this is the result you get after consuming amphetamine and other drugs. What comes up must go down as we say, up meaning the come up/peak and down meaning the after effects/comedown.

However the comedown on amphetamine may not be as intense as a comedown off MDMA. In the sense that ecstasy affects the brain way more than amphetamine does, because amphetamine affects the body more than ecstasy. Therefore the comedown on speed is easier to handle for some. Nonetheless, it does not mean it could be easier for you, everyone reacts differently!

The reason you feel like this afterwards is because the brain has low amounts of dopamine and other neurotransmitters because the brain has used up all the "happy hormones" during the peak of the trip. Causing you to feel like everything is meaningless. Not only do you feel like this but you also fry your brain, in other word you lose brain cells and your IQ probably drops some precent depending on how often you consume it of-course.

But after some time and rest you start to feel like your old self again. Regular things like brushing teeth or watering your plants does not feel as overwhelming anymore and small things in life, like for example seeing a kitty or a dog outside bring you joy again.

My Experience/es:

OBS: (this segment is optional it is only here in case you want to read and know about my personal experiences and or opinions on amphetamine.)

First time I consumed speed I was at a forest rave with a friend who also had no idea what it does to the human mind/body. She did not want to try it which I respected. So I snorted it by my self (felt like a nasty junkie lowkey). I waited for the first line to hit however I did not feel a difference so I did another line and then I did another. This is also a good reason/reminder to try a new substance with someone who knows how it works and is experienced. Because I started speculating that maybe I got scammed by my dealer, however I knew that it couldn't be true because we were/still are good friends and his girlfriend is my sister. So later I realized that I don't feel a difference because I was comparing the amphetamine to ecstasy which was the reason why "I did not feel anything". Like at that point the only stimulant I ever tried was MDMA and therefore I expected the amphetamine to hit me like an ecstasy pill, which was not the case here.

Later on I learned that amphetamine works completley different. On an ecstasy peak you feel like your floating on clouds, and you love everybody and you assume everybody loves you. At times it can even feel fake because you feel like you care about everyone and you overwhelm others with complements (maybe so you can get some back idk?). Sometimes constantly giving out complements to strangers would make them feel annoyed in some occasions, but you don't realize it because the self-awareness goes out the window during an ecstasy peak. On amphetamine what I've noticed with myself at least is that Im way more clearheaded and I can create coherent sentences way easier. I don't get that floaty and warm lovey dovey feeling like on MDMA. Which is also a big reason why I prefer amphetamine over ecstasy. Like first of all ecstasy can at times feel very fake and artificial (don't know how else to describe it) while amphetamine doesn't bring out that fabricated version of yourself. Im a lot more self-aware, which gives me the sense of control.

Hence why speed is my drug of choice besides also 2cb, not combied togheter though, Iv'e done that once and lets just say that I learned from my mistake (story bout that coming soon). But I just like speed...you know. It keeps me energized throughout the whole night and I can socialize with people without being seen as an annoying girl that needs to give out a ton of complements in order to make others like me. Conversations flow naturally and vibing to a live dj just feels so yummy. Everything is just a lil more enjoyable on speed in my humble opinion.

When you buy ecstasy usually in pill form it is almost always (I believe it's always) cut with other things like for example amphetamine which lessens the MDMA properties. And now I don't have to worry if my speed is cut with something because dealers usually use amphetamine to cut for example ecstasy pills. But I mean technically speed could be cut with things like bath salts or bicarbonate, but I don't need to worry because I know my dealer gives me speed the way it supposed to be. Obviously the dealers can cut every drug with bicarbonate or another substance to make it cheaper it's just up to you to test the drug and see if you got the real deal.

How did/do I experience my speed comedowns:

I remembered that my first amphetamine comedown was way worse than my esctasy comedown. I was super emotional and even on the verge of tears at some points, which was strange to me because I was told that an amphetamine comedown is easier to handle. But there was I with a comedown worse than a MDMA one in my opinion, and on top of that I couldn't eat, because my throat felt clogged and swallowing chunks of food felt impossible. Not only was my brain exhausted but also my body felt weak like jelly especially my knees, because I subconsciously tense my body and muscles during the whole night. So when I finally found time to lay down and relax my body just feels exhausted. Then idk if anyone else has this but my eyes hurt (I think its from straining them to much) and since speed is made to keep you awake I can't just close them and fall asleep, because the amphetamine still lingers in my system. So Im forced to stay awake.

Something I also experience is that when Im laying in bed under my covers, it get's too hot so I remove the comforter but then I get cold. Like my organism can't seem to regulate my body temperature as it normally does. So I get flu like symptoms, then depending on which nostril I was snorting from that night one of them are always clogged up with shit and when I try to wipe my nose my nostril gets clogged immediately again. The worst part is that sometimes the nostril I decided to fuck up during the whole night is blocked for daysss.

It may seem like to you that the comedowns I experience and experienced before aren't worth the highs I get. However in my opinion I believe that I got better at handling my comedowns, because I found things that worked for me plus I think that I just got used to how a comedown on speed feels. Im always prepared and know what's coming once the high wears off, like that's a good way to lessen the big difference of: Im having the best time in my life to Im miserable rn. It is a drastic change in a persons well being, and that is why you should always weigh all of your options and really think through if its worth it, before jumping onto a new substance.
