INSTANT. james dean and marlon brando levels of ARE YOU TWO FUCKING?? but they literally just met. and marc has been a fan of vale's forever but not just the comedies also his earlier dramatic stuff (apocalyptic little gay crush) and they have similar taste in movies and vale is sooooo funny and it is OFF to the races. like. i cannot emphasize this enough they are fucking the WHOLE time. every scene in this movie its just leaping off the screen... they go in to film and its like that BTS clip of the americans where the director was having matthew rhys and keri russell do a sex scene and theyre suspiciously comfortable pretending to 69 and he turns to his assistant and just goes. oh yeah these guys have fucked. they are wayyyy to comfy hitching the other's pussy into their face lmao. just fucking going for it. the director is like hey guys. can you tone it down a little. marc biggggg smile okayyyyyy :3

Context: Every year throughout the month of November we have our Marine Corps Birthday Ball. There's a ceremony and fancy dinner and of course a lot of alcohol and tabaco. Enlisted wear our Marine Corps Blues uniform and get to show off all our fancy awards and medals. The officers wear their sick uniform as well. Guests wear a formal suit or dress!! We get drunk, have cake, and dance. Its fun and one of the many traditions we have in this service. This year it was the 248th Birthday!! Let me give you the run down for todays event <3

Okay, you have your date or friend group that you're going with. You as the guest are in your formal attire. Lets get this party started! (Every year and in every venue its the same setup, same ceremony, and same food)

1845-1900

You show up to the venue with your date. The ball room is set. There are about a dozen round tables draped with a beautiful white table cloth. There is a round red and gold table cloth in the center of the table. On it sits two pitchers one with water and the other with iced sweet tea. In front of each seat is a set of silverware for each course, a wine glass, a water/tea glass, a pamphlet with tonight's events, and a neatly folded napkin. Each section is sat with each other. A chair left empty next to your Marine for you of course.

Usually the Commanding Officer or Executive Officer will put money down for everyone to get one free drink. The venue offers two bars. Both the lines are a bit long but you can just chat while you wait. There plenty of people to be introduced too and everyone is saying "Happy Birthday" to each other. If you're stationed in an allied country like Japan there are guests from their military as well.

The bar has a wide variety. Wine, shots, mixed drinks, and juice if you arent drinking. They even sell cigars. You and your date get your drinks and socialize. You get to meet their peers and squad members. This is also the time to take pictures! You walk towards the entrance of the venue with your date. There is always a professional Photographer waiting. The American flag and Marine Corps flag are proudly displayed in front of a royal red backdrop. The backdrop has accents of gold.

The photographer asks if you want their pictures or just on your phone. You both pose and smile. The pictures came out amazing. Your Marine will take some photos with their shop and then you'll head back into the venue. Another drink?

2005

Man that hour went by fast! The five minute warning has just been called. You and your Marine go to your seats and wait for the ceremony to begin.

2010

The ceremony starts. Everyone is seated and quiet. There's always one rushing back to their seat from the bathroom. (You can watch a full ceremony from last year here but im going to summarize it. Im speaking from my experience overseas but the video is stateside Marine Corps)

The band does their introduction segment commencing the start of the ceremony. The march forward turn and march back. Next comes the sword detail. There are 4 pairs that walk through. There are both Enlisted Marines and Officers in the sword detail. They march in pairs to their position and once are all in place the Commanding Officer, Sergeant Major, and XO march past the sword detail to the front of the stage. Everyone stands when they walk by to show respect. Next comes the color guard with the American Flag and Marine Corps flag and two rifles march onto stage. Everyone stays standing to honor the colors are they pass. The National Anthem is played followed by Anchors Away and then the Marine Corps Hymn. Which every Marine sings!!

The cake is then marched onto stage while the band plays. A traditional speech is made. Then the CO cuts the cake with the NCO sword giving a slice to the guest speaker. The another slice to the oldest Marine. The oldest Marine takes a fork full and passes it to the youngest Marine for a fork full. This symbolizes the passing of traditions!

After that the color guard marches off stage followed by the cake detail and oldest and youngest Marine. The CO, XO, and SgtMaj exit the stage. Then the sword detail. The guest speaker will then give their speech and then the birthday message will play. I have it linked below. It was fire this year!!

2110

The ceremony ends and the bars open. Half the Marines there rush to the bathroom and the other half to the bar. The venue staff start to bring out a shrimp cocktail appetizer. After 15 minutes they bring out a salad. Then after about another 15 minutes they bring out the main course. There are four options chicken, steak, fish, and vegetarian.

2200 - 0130

The dance floor opens. You are free to leave at this time if you want. The venue service starts clearing off the tables and the DJ starts playing music. Marines go outside to smoke cigars others hit the bar for the 4-5th time. The dance floor gets crazy. The CO will even bust some moves on the dance floor. Medals come off so no one looses them (Plus they are so freaking expensive) and everyone has fun till the venue closes.

And you could always make a side account for proship stuff if you want to be able to take a break from the intense pro vs anti stuff if and when it gets too much, whilst still having a place to enjoy that stuff.

Honestly I think a lot of the issue is people seem to take the word "ship" as their ideal relationship. Less so than a dynamic they enjoy in fiction. But I don't know, I can't pretend to understand the mind of antis.

Proshippers and multishippers getting clumped together is probably linked to the idea that a ship is a pairing you want to see canon and shows actually pandering to ship wars lately. Or maybe people are just weird!

just finished a short stay in hell by steven l peck (basically fanfiction of borges's the library of babel - a hell where you have to find a book of your life in a library containing every combination of characters possible, so, more books than there are electrons in the universe) and while i did like it and had a very good time reading it AND white it was skillfully written and very good at conveying the despair it wishes to convey, im left kind of meh... about it. there's a certain lack of creativity to it i guess?

even with the parameters set (population homogeneity: everyone is a white american, about 25, and from around the same modern century) i can imagine very many ways to find meaning, pleasure, knowledge and fun with people through the billions and billions eons. specially with the kiosks that can give you any food you want. i can imagine cultures building around the pleasures of food and arguably its equally infinite possibility of combinations. the nightly resets of the injured and the dead -- through the millennia you could go the cenobite way and find the delicacy in all forms of pain and torture. the lack of diversity seems to be part of the torture and is remarked upon over and over to the point of fetishization of the other. BUT i think even in the very small subsection of people, the knowledge accumulated + differences of experiences are still infinitely varied... specially if you develop a deep love for humanity. you could interview people and eventually come to a consensus on whether you all see the same red.

thinking about that bit in the s10 episode i just watched where dean (and sam but i think mostly dean) recounts john taking them to new york and how there was SO MUCH in it. everything made me feel so vindicated i love love looove when spn suddenly lines up with something ive been thinking about. so much there.

dean being 'really underage' so i was thinking like 15 (not that id even describe 15 as REALLY underage, but these are americans) and sneaking out to a sick rock venue... <33. coolest kid around i love him. i like the establishment that dean did do things like that - it both makes me feel happier for him and slightly vindicates me against the people who claim dean was more sam's parent than his brother. thats not true. sure, he raised him, but he also snuck out to go to bars and dumped sam at random places and acted like an idiot older brother. and im glad dean got to do that.

15 year old dean (or some other young dean) being intentionally gotten drunk and implied to be roofied or drugged or whatever by a bunch of girls who were immediately all over him... hello... thats AWFUL..... god he must've been such a looker and i like it when canon acknowledges that. i have this idea in my head of like. 'funny looking' kid dean who's about twelve when he suddenly graduates from funny-looking to like relentlessly beautiful by just growing perfectly into his features. dean is always so aware of the way hes percieved physically in any given situation and always uses it in this specific way, from flirting with every girl around to responding to male aggression by way of cops etc by also like fake flirting or pretending they're sexually interested in him..... i dont always know where i land on 'precanon dean did sex work' hcs but this is something that does intrigue me about it. plus the weird and very sweet protectiveness he always has about sex workers - also just watched that ep where hes like trying to talk the soul-wanting sex worker out of it. ANYWAY. and the extremely casual way dean recounts this like its just?? something that happens to him??? hello???

then dean telling john he'd embarrassed him and he hated him...... doesn't really stack with everything else we've ever heard of child/teenage dean, but it's kind of interesting to consider. i guess he was incredibly drunk/potentially drugged. also this is from dean's perspective, a dean who was intensely gone and probably barely remembers.

and then we get a classic early-seasons style moment where dean recounts something about john winchester and goes Ha! Classic dad! What a great guy! and sam's like Dude wtf?????? except sam isn't snarky anymore so he just does a Look. i mean come on dean. ten minutes ago you said 'john winchester isn't winning any parenting awards' and now you're saying 'he raised us right!'. Dude. You KNOW that is not true. sam also knows you know.

that being said. i like seeing a moment of john winchester just being... a human guy. taking his kids to new york bc they kept begging him to and seeing all the fun sights. scaring the hell out of a bunch of terrifying punk teenagers who got his teenage son drunk. its more interesting to me to think that john is, like, a decent guy, aside from the child abuse, and probably would've been a much better dad if it wasn't for the trauma and the hunting and mary's death (though. i have to say. The way he deals with it is still his character!!! Putting it all on your very young son and venting to him is still like. Not something that a hell of a lot of people would do, even if they got just as revenge-driven. i reckon that specific type of parentification/spousification would've still have happened to dean. mary would've probably done it too.). the young john we see seems like a cool guy and he has strong as hell opinions about his future self's parenting (admittedly while not knowing it's his future self, lol). i reckon, on one level, john and dean did actually really get on. that makes the awfulness of it all so much more interesting to me <3

i saw peter pan goes wrong and it was one of the best nights of my life and here is everything that is different from the bbc recording/some stuff i want to remember/make note of

the preshow bits were so fun. i couldn’t see it all bc i was in the mezzanine but:

jonathan was going around chatting with people. chris came up and took him backstage, but he kept popping back out to talk

at one point both trevor and jonathan were climbing over the front rows. unclear why

trevor was drinking a beer

you could see max and dennis and sandra poking their heads around from the stage. max kept waving

robert was onstage trying to get the lights to work. they were doing something with a cable—they had the audience involved in feeding the cable back through the audience. again, couldn’t really see due to being in the mezzanine

one of the backstage people (actor, not for real) (im pretty sure she played annie in one of the broadway runs of the play that goes wrong!) was going around asking people if they had found a hammer. she made me check under my seat :) eventually she found it and lifted it up onstage to show everyone. everyone cheered for her :) then she pretended like she was going to throw it into the audience. good bit queen

at one point neil patrick harris was visible on the stage behind jonathan and jonathan seemed to think the cheers and applause were for him. good bit. in general i think the show is perfectly cast but greg tannahill is really a revelation. so perfectly charming yet smug

chris was even more sopping wet and pathetic than in the bbc version. he slipped on a puddle of “medicine.” he stabbed himself in the leg with scissors. he strangled himself with his own tie. he drank hand sanitizer

a couple people in the front row came in late and chris stopped what he was doing to stare at them disapprovingly for a full ten seconds

later, when we booed him, chris called out the people in the front row, saying “don’t boo me, latecomers!”

instead of “pantomime”, the running joke was “family show”, and we just booed captain hook instead of “oh no it isn’t”/ “oh yes it is.” we did do “he’s behind you” though. and somebody did “do you need a hand.” i kind of do wish americans had the cultural context of pantomimes so we could do more of a call and response. also i think chris bean saying “oh yes it is” with increasing frustration is very funny. YES IT IS. OF COURSE IT IS. anyway it was still really fun to boo him

robert was the one who said it was a family show. “look how many children there are in the audience! child. child. ugly child”

chris bean, later, during the poison scene: “don’t boo me! robert was right, you are an ugly child!”

there was a whole undersea scene in the lagoon involving black lights and fluorescent fish and mermaids and such! typical goes wrong jokes (mermaid loses its head, jellyfish legs get tangled, fish fuse together to look like a dick and balls)

speaking of mermaids: max and dennis came out in mermaid costumes involving roller blades. matthew cavendish appears to be a pretty talented roller blader

i liked matthew cavendish’s performance as max! different then dave hearn but not in a bad way! there were no “snap snaps” but i actually prefer that, because it feels like a dave hearn thing. this guy was doing his own max, who was a little less of a ham and more a guy who is just having a silly time. i think dave’s max is a little smarter than matthew’s. dave’s max knows he’s fucking with chris—matthew’s max does not. i like them both.

when jonathan fell, a giant banner of “jack and the bean” (starring robert) also fell down, and chris yelled “intermission”

later, during the stage revolve bit, we see a banner of “rapunzel” featuring sandra’s ill-timed haircut

Keiki and Chami are what i like to call one-sided rivals to best friends- since they share a "similar" ultimate, from the start Chami feels a little bit thrown into a competition. See, the thing with Chami is that she tries REALLY hard to cater to other people and her perfectionism makes her push herself a little too hard to the point its overwhelming to others and in turn makes her insecure. this is the total opposite of Keiki who is an effortless people magnet- even the grumpiest in the group like her. this makes Chami really jealous so in her head Keiki becomes her rival and she avoids her altogether. Keiki doesn't hold any negative feelings for Chami although she can tell Chami dislikes her- so accordingly, she is not a fan either.

this changes after the second trial though- when Keiki successfully protects Chami from unjust accusations. Chami is like "WAIT so you actually don't hate me and don't want to steal all my friends from me???" and Keiki is like "girl NO? where did that come from, i was hoping for us to be friends!" and Chami is like "oh. oh 🥺" and they have a very heart-warming "conflict" resolving moment that is interrupted by Jun going "umm ladies i think we're in the middle of murder investigation?" to which they go "RIGHT. im so sorry"

they become best friends after that! inseparable too. turns out they work amazingly well together and like u guessed, they throw the best tea parties ever!

they're hinted to have feelings for each other too- after Paris (who went to american school before) suggest they organise a prom night, Keiki and Chami work hard for it to be perfect. and when the prom night comes they also realize they were so busy they forgot to get a partner!! which, you know, isnt that tragic because turns out they both planned to ask each other <3

me when i go on 34324 pages essay on Keiki and Chami ANYWAYS. one last fun fact i wanted Keiki's hair to resemble cinnamon rolls and for Chami's hair to resemble croissants with the ribbons being like "chocolate toppings"! not sure if it shows through so i thought ill throw it out there :3

from other's distinctive relationships we have Paris and Yami- theyre complex as they are kind of working against each other all the time, but Paris wants to prove herself innocent to Yami and by proximity pretends to want to befriend her. Yami is very weak for kindness shown her way but shes also very smart so this is very hard for her- she's basically having to battle between rationality and feelings. if the game was from her perspective it would be "danganronpa: yami's struggle between wanting justice and crushing easily". Although Paris quite literally gaslights her all the way, she does eventually put so much work into befriending her that the feelings overtime just become a little bit real

i think im gonna wrap it up so no one falls asleep on my post (although if you're curious about anyone else im super happy to answer! :D) BUT i also wanted to mention Kei here since i noticed a lot of people like him- Kei is bros with Kenichi, friends with Akane and also the only person Yami has to a real friend too, he's super sweet to her! Kei is "autistic - loves to talk" and Yami is "autistic - loves to listen" so theyre very wholesome together :'3

alright so! im not gonna bother with a very organized post i wouldnt be me if i did but here are my collision thoughts!

i liked the theme song, which sets it apart from dynamite and rampage in that it isnt dogshit. i also liked the set and the presentation, although i wouldve loved if it was more distinct from dynamite (also i miss the tunnels) but overall they made a great job of adhering to the companys aesthetic while making a new distinct looking product. i also was hoping since its live on tnt that they would have different editors, this clearly isnt the case, editing was shit. not a collision issue aew just needs better editors.

i agree with everyone on this, commentary was a little rough. i didnt really know nigel before (i never have time for roh) so i didn't know what to expect and he and kevin obviously need time to figure out how theyre gonna work together, and kevin also clearly struggled with the american format (ad breaks, promos between matches etc). overall it is still better than dynamite commentary and i have high hopes for them! not even Hoarse Corpse Jr at the main could take them down to his level.

i'll admit i didn't fully watch punk's promo at the start, im a notorious promo skipper but i watched most of it, and it seemed alright to me. there was a bit of dissonance between how they seem to be bringing him back as a heel but being in chicago didnt get the response to his speech that he wouldve gotten elsewhere.

the main was good! sadly i dont give a shit about ftr and juice so it was kind of a struggle but they are good (well ftr are) i just dont like em. anyway punk looked good he was moving well and i thought it was well paced and everyone got their due time in the spotlight (being in the ring w punk)

overall this was a very solid start to this show, obviously we know aew can put on a good show but its the question of whether they are able to keep this momentum going. good wrestlers and a nice new look doesnt make the show good immediately, so im a little hesitant to say anything more about its impact right now but i had fun

wish i worked more than one day a week at our new job. 🌻 doesnt think we can handle it and maybe he's right but getting out of the house regularly for once has been so good for my mental health and i need more. i hate being stuck doing nothing all day and i hate feeling like a financial burden to my boyfriend. i want independance so bad. i want to be equals.

and its just like, i hate it when people say we're just freeloading or are lazy and taking advantage of him. thats so fucking mean. we love him. we want to help and support him. we are doing literally everything we can to try and help even to our detriment. every year we use our birthday and christmas money to get him presents and food he wants and send him money for rent and utilities instead of getting ourselves things, and thats our only income (outside this new job, which is giving us one short shift a week that cant even pay for the ubers there and back). and we do it because we want to and love him so if he sees this, babe please dont take that in a bad way, and i only want to do more. i want to learn to drive so i can take him places and pick up his friends so he can see them more often. but to get a car i need to be able to make steady payments and make car insurance. 🌻 is trying to get us in disability, which might let me do that at least, but i dont even want to be on disability i just want to be fucking normal and have a full time job and be able to function like a normal person in society. i want to pay rent and utilities i want to pay for the storage unit he wants and get us a better place to live. i want to get my ged and go to college or trades school so maybe i can even land something that pays well and get us both the surgeries we want and need. i want to make enough to be able to treat him to a date night every now and then. god. fuck. and then people just assume im being a burden for fun? assuming i dont have any dreams or aspirations just because im disabled? assuming im just pretending to be as disabled as i am to get out of doing real work, because im just livin the high life over here in a dirty apartment i cant manage to clean often enough, stuck in bed until even laying down hurts, eating barely one meal a day if we eat at all because it takes too much energy to cook and we cant afford takeout, no hobbies because it takes too much brainpower i dont have to spend. the american fucking dream. why would anyone want to work when you could have this life right?

fuck. i work one day a week and the day after i sleep all day because im so tired and in so much pain and i just need to recover. sometimes it takes multiple days. and then i still have like, household responsibilities to take care of through the week. and if we want us or our boyfriend to eat, we have to be the one to cook (no shame to him though, he works harder than us and deserves the break), and doing household tasks plus making dinner takes like all our energy for the day. if we worked more than one day a week, i doubt we could do anything for the house and it would be even worse than it is now. and we couldnt work more than one day in a row, itd have to be like every other day and that still might be too much for us. 🌻 is probably right. but i still want it. i want to be useful. i want to have a fulfilling life worth living that ive worked for myself. its not fair. its not fair.

vladimir, julia may jonas - chose this because of natalie portmans bookclub, and i could literally envision her envisioning herself in this type of role if this were a movie, especially after her may december performance. i did enjoy this but the moralist ending really wasn't...warranted? and im being vague here for risk of spoilers but the fire seemed like a very cheap cop out? if anyones read this id like your thoughts? also from the vague synopsis id read it made it seem like the prof was an older man obsessing over a younger woman so i was really intrigued by the role reversal here and i really did want to like this.

tender is the flesh, agustina bazterrica - okayy. prefacing this by saying ive been vegetarian for 4 years now and that that greatly affects my take on this, i feel like book is heavily reliant on shock value and the grotesqueness of the real world and the author knows that the reader knows this is a real practice irl and is only forcing them to care because its being done to humans now instead of animals. which is so disturbing? maybe its just me but i think its horrific and cheap to pretend like youre making a statement and pretend like youre urging people to give a fuck about a real world problem but people dont see our irl food industry as a problem, if they did there would be more people with plant based diets. i hate to sound preachy in a 'review' where im condemning the author for being fake preachy but any positive reviews of this honestly are from people that will pretend to make a change in their diet for like a week and then revert to eating meat. and then the 'twist' where it also a commentary on surrogacy at the end, i was honestly appalled. modern day surrogacy as glorified by kardashians where its just rich women who dont feel like gaining weight or are only slightly inconvenienced by pregnancy so they turn to surrogacy is obviously disgusting but the main characters wife in this is obviously infertile and i dont see anything wrong with surrogacy in that instance -- (obviously not like its done here with the cattle-woman, hello??) but oh my god this book was really not....it. for me. and i think cannibalism in media had its fun but we need to move on already its tired. this book had nothing even interesting to say on it, whatever, im annoyed, at least it was short.

sirens & muses, antonia angress - very cute i liked this a lot! it reminded me a lot of this book i read in 2022 called cleopatra and frankenstein, which i also liked a lot. this just reads really well all the way through and i loved all the characters, i was a little upset about what happened with preston but only because i really liked him and i do realize that it was interesting to show flashes of his father in him it made him more complex sighhhh! this could be a good mini series tbh i saw karina so clearly in my head as sophie thatcher ooooof

couple quick unrelated thoughts, gender reassignment surgery is better understood not as a treatment for “gender dysphoria” but instead as a treatment for autism, the correlation between being transgender and high functioning autism is so strong that its more honest to view it that way, and once you do you see it for what it is, a cruel trick and imposition against the most vulnerable of us. if you understood autism it makes perfect sense, they lack social instincts that cause us all to behave a million ways without us realizing it, these basic interactions have to be verbalized and taught to them. The universal societal need for strick gender roles is a very complicated thing to figure out, but there is a very clear logical reason for them, most people just dont know it, they dont need it, they just follow instinct, autists dont have that luxery so they have to first learn all this shit and then justify it to themselves somehow, gender roles are the only thing that fucking works its a fundemental building block for any even partially functioning society, but most people dont know that, most people dont understand these things evolved in us over hundreds of thousands of years and the reason every surviving distinct race of man all independantly arranged the gender roles basically the same way, because it works and the peoples who tried alternatives were outcompeted and they died, most autists arent gonna know this without being prompted meanwhile jews have put it into there head that the discomfort they feel in their own skin is because they are lacking a sweet set of silicone titties, i mean slapping a rocking pair of tits on yourself might be fun for a week or two and for an autistic man its gonna give you a pronounced social leg up lol, but the long term consequences for this kind of flesh meddling are horrors beyond the wildest nightmares of 99.9 percent of all people who ever lived and passed away. ask yourself if this is a good way to treat autism.

 the other thing i wanted to say is its very common for artists to make art that is ACCIDENTALLY based and excellent, the sopranos is the greatest example of this and the phenomenon explains why many saints of newark was a failure. David Chase hates tony soprano and he was desperate to make america hate him too, and this desperation is very apparent by the final season where tony turns into some fat demon somewhat out of the blue, it was built up somewhat but, without spoiling anything it was clear david chase was trying to slap tonys dick out americas collective mouth unsuccesfully. im not saying the success of david chases original run was complete accident, hes a very talented writer and director, but he made tony soprano to be a foil for white america, hes an effigy to be burned, he espouses views that would resonate with anyone still clung to western tradition and then does objectively morally heinous acts, this is jewery 101, make a work of fiction portraying someone with a belief you want to snuff out and then portray that character committing murder or rape, or even worse, a heckin racism. the problem though is that americans have become so starved for characters with views that resonate with their own amidst all the jewish faggotry that they were more than willing to overlook the most dastardly sins just to get a hit of that sweet resonation, and it makes david chase furious. i never saw the many saints of neward movie that came out, fucking no one did, but the few that did hated it, its basically universally reviled, and there is a reason i wasnt excited for it despite being a diehard sopranos fan. i knew the years werent gonna do david chase any favors, as time goes on in jewish america the enemy must be portrayed increasingly unfairly, and even though tony was a childishly blunt mockery of white american values, david chase couldnt help but at least try to be a little subtle at times, or to pretend to give tonys point of view a fair shake, you cant even do that now, and david chase wouldnt even if it were allowed because thats how much he resents the fact that you love his character, because the character was born from his resentment of the “other”. long story short he fucking hates goys, and the success of his show was a result of both his talent as a writer and director, but just as important was the fact that his audience missed or ignored his main point.

lets not have a mid off between these two fuckass countries who love exploiting their working class. im not suggesting the US has good labour laws my post was simply relaying what ive seen chinese ppl in china say and comment in the past week and i dont think they genuinely believe americans workers have it much better than they do either because theyre not stupid. And whether or not american workers get christmas off is not the point the video couldve just as easily been about british workers or swedish workers its just a comedic way to express their frustration at this new policy but more importantly their frustration at not being able to resist this policy in any way that the law even pretends to protect (protests, striking, etc). They envy that western workers can push back against infringements on important cultural holidays in ways that chinese workers objectively cannot (including something as simple as going online and telling their president to go die for taking their day off. Which i think should be a human right). and why shouldnt chinese workers look at western countries, esp european ones, who live comfortably in the spoils of colonialism and materially have better worker protection and want that for themselves?? Why shouldnt chinese 996 white collar workers be upset when they see a german worker with the same job get paid 50x more for less hours. And why shouldnt chinese blue collar workers want a working OSHA equivalent and strict construction policies with mandated insurance and liens to protect their safety and pay. And in terms of this specific policy of removing chinese new years eve as a holiday the govt DOESNT mandate holiday pay and just "encourages" companies to give holiday pay which chinese ppl know is an invitation for their bosses to exploit them for that extra day. which is a main point of anger. And also Christmas is a bank holiday in most western countries white collar workers definitely get the day off. maybe not service workers but neither do chinese service workers during Chinese new years or their labour day. I dont think ppl should overly vilify the chinese govt but dont swing too hard the other way either the chinese govt doesnt care any more or less about their working class than the US govt cares about the american working class. and i think it could be dangerous to believe that chinese workers are better protected than they actually are the whole point of this is worker solidarity and realizing we're not that different its not an oppression olympic.
