summary -;- after a one night stand with a woman you met at the last drop last night, you wake up in the morning in her bed. what more could happen?

it was a long, long night. you had met her at the last drop. it was your first time fully enveloping yourself in zauns pleasurable businesses. the streets were littered with children, older men and women, spokespeople, clerics, etc.

you make your way into the bar, a bit nervous from the bustle and quick tempo of the atmosphere. you wander your way up to the bar to the barkeep. i glance up at the menu then back at the bartender.

"first time here 'ey?" a tall and built man asked you. a small whisper of a yes comes out of your mouth.

"no need to be afraid 'ere. names vander, i own this place. whatdya want?" he asks you, a smile never leaving his face.

you order a drink and you take a seat on the edge of the bar, protecting your drink as you people watch.

a little girl with blue hair runs by with a older girl with pink hair closelt behind. people of all sorts, animal people, zaunites, fighters, sellers, the lonely. you name it, they were here. until a certain someone caught your eye.

she was beautiful. grey eyes that shone in the light, a perfect bob with a mini bun in the back. you watched her closely as she shuffled her poker cards. she flicked her gaze up at you and you quickly focused back in on your drink.

'fuck. please don't notice me.' you think to yourself as a faint hue of pink rise on your cheeks in embarassment.

the night passes on, you stole a few more glances from her every now and then.

you decided to get back home before you get too intoxicated. you sit up and briskly walk to the bathroom, turning the corner to fix your makeup in the mirror. the door opens behind you so you shuffle out of the way for whomever to get by. until you heard the strangers voice.

"saw you starin'" she husks out, catching your gaze in the mirror as your blush comes back. you trip over your words for a second before your form a coherant sentence.

"i-im really sorry i am. im new here and i was just looking around- i wasnt staring at-" you turn around and suddenly realize just how close she is. "you.." you whisper out.

"names sevika. what about yours doll?" she whispers to you as she pushes you against the wall.

...

beep. beep. beep.

you shift around in your bed into you roll over to turn the alarm off, except you're stuck in something. you move to push whatever off of you into you realize it was an arm.

a small yelp escapes your lips until you look up, realizing who it was. your cheeks tint pink. sevika raises her arms to rub her eyes as she groggily looks up at you. "hey dollface.." she mumbles to you.

you look at her with confusion, no recognition at all. you nervously chuckle.

"shit- you mustve been real drunk." she laughs awkwardly as she sits up, pulling you into her lap almost. "s'okay. we kinda fucked then went to bed. y'know?" she states to you, as if that was normal.

she could tell from your expression that that was not your usual end to a night. a small laugh escapes her mouth as she leaves a few kisses on your forehead as an apology. "look, i gotta do some errands today for some people. so c'mon." she tells you as she gets out of bed, the shests slipping down and revealing she's still bare-naked.

a gasp escapes your mouth as you close your eyes shut tight. sevika laughs and walks over to you, moving your hands as she put a oversized shirt on. she hikes you up with ease, you laugh softly as you wrap your arms around her neck. her laege hands gripping your thighs around her hips as she waltzes into the kitchen.

she grabs some cereal from the cabinet, along with milk, a spoon and a bowl. she nudges then towards you as you sit down at her bartop. you smile at her as a gesture of appreciation.

"sorry for... yknow.. last night" you tell her as you fill your mouth with cereal.

"you're fine dollface. it was one of the better fucks ive had in a while. might just keep you around" she mumbles to you as she wraps her lips around the base of your neck, shivers running down your spine as she wraps her arms aroujd your waist and pulls you in closer.

this was gonna be a good day.

Im just gonna say it: the exact same argument about series 11 having a woman playing the Doctor but w/ inconsistent politic & fake activism applies to series 14 & a lil of RTD2 in general but in Black. Respectability politics & flimsy anti racism all over the shop

It thinks futuristic racism corrects racism "being a thing of the past" but then actively erases said racism of Britain's past. Twice. Not only that but it glorifies the 60s & regency period. Does "powerful" white supremacy commentary then slaps a regency wig on 15's head 😭

It should go without saying that 1960s & 1800s Britain wasnt some post racial utopia. The show would rather make these periods more progressive than they really were instead of telling the stories of the POC living there or hell, show us history outside of 'the West'

It treats the dehumanisation of Black people as an inevitable part of future society. Fifteen has to be a perfect non violent victim of racism but can fridge the goblin king & the chuldur easy. Racism can/must exist but fighting back or having any reaction to ur oppressor can't.

The gag is RTD understands racial oppression when it affects *him* tho. The oppression of the Welsh is acknowledged in present day Earth bc it's a real part of history. Its addressed again in 2046 bc it's still relevent in the future. & did Ruby save Roger? No she got him gone!

It sanitises its own history. The Doctor has called out racial supremacy, human or not since day. And no they didn't always save *everyone*. Against the establishment to begging it & partying with it too apparently. Rosa has issues but at least it was hopeful...

It treats Fifteen as a white character made Black which has weird implications for a non human being from a "post racial" society. Thirteen wasn't a "human woman" but she still had the agency to call out every misogynist she met. Lawd forbid she cried over Jack Robertson 😭

Despite having a Black Doctor they're written for a white audience. 'It's not about Black people, its about white people' sealed the deal. It treats their Blackness as circumstantial & not something they'll have to deal with regardless of time period playing it safe & palatable

This 1 should be self explanatory. If Donna's seen the Doctor's mind then she knows Fugitive Doctor exists so yes the Doctor comes in a range of different colours 🤪🤪 And again if he's not a human Black man but an alien then why is it a surprise that he can change race? Ugh...

Isaac Newton wasn't that deep bc he's only there for the mavity gag but it opened a fuck ton of racism towards Nathaniel Curtis & antiblackness bc the racists camping the tag thought he was Black. 'Owning the right 🤪' at the expense of POC in the show & fandom. Great job there..

RTD made the point of the Toymaker being racist then keeps him anyway? Takes a jab about cultural appropriation in Pyramids of Mars then based the finale on it anyway w/ Sutekh? Not even entertaining the Black Guardian ting. Like what's the point of any of this? It feels so fake.

Carla's not as egregious as the previous but apart from RTD copying & posting her name from Clyde's mum in SJA, she doesn't get a lot to do outside supporting Ruby's storyline. S14 then ends with Ruby calling her bio mum her "real" mum so her serving role didn't mean much anyway

The Giggle was the 1st flag bc it conflated all political related anger as bad bc it's anger instead of love 😫✊🏻without *single* look at why the current political climate is the way that it is. Pandemic, genocides, climate change & govt corruption yh ppl will be angry Russell 🥴

Series 11 at least gets to gas itself up for having women write for the 1st female Doctor and having Black and South Asian writers for the first time in the show's history (which isn't a great achievement but ah well)

Series 14 doesn't have that to its credit.

Black woman who only exists to boost white characters stories, racism stories that don't give their Black characters full agency & 0 follow up of their experiences only this time w/ no Black writers. Same tings different font. What improvement was made exactly?

Tl;Dr - We have the 1st Black Doctor in the main lineup but this series handles race and racism poorly. There's barely any improvement from how race was handled in RTD1 and his handling of Black characters in Years & Years and It's a Sin hasn't been brought over. 🥴

look i am not a lando norris fan at all but for the lando fans pls have SOME decorum we're all stressed about the race coming up, we all have our favorite drivers that we want to win I get it, this is a crucial part of the race. the only reason people say that "mafuyu and tsukasa have nothing in common" when presented with mafukasa parallels is because they equate mafuyu and tsukasa being similar to "tsukasa has depression" because the fandom equates mafuyu's personality to being depressed and nothing else.

it doesn't help that people (primarily younger people in the fandom) who DO believe in mafukasa parallels end up making the mistake of portraying tsukasa as depressed because as of right now he is not (although it's possible he was in past because of his Very Unclear Middle School Backstory but that's irrelevant)

anyways, mafuyu and tsukasa are narrative foils because their core personalities are built off of the concept of wanting to make the people around them— especially their families— happy.

they both developed personalities at a young age based on someone they looked up to. for tsukasa, it was seiichi amami's performance that inspired him to be a star— a hero that could cheer anyone up. for mafuyu, it was her mother taking care of her that inspired her to be a nurse— and you can see the similarities from there.

for mafuyu, her identity would first come into conflict when her mother expressed her want for mafuyu to be a doctor— suddenly, "everyone's" happiness didn't match what she wanted to do, leaving her in a state of disorder and eventual depression.

for tsukasa, his identity was something he nearly forgot in its entirety at the start of the main story— becoming arrogant and fully absorbed in a hero persona, forgetting the kind person he truly is. furthermore, his current character arc seems to be foreshadowing that what "being a star" to him is going to be called into question— maybe it is something more than just being the main character that saves everyone.

their insecurities are incredibly similar.

in mafuyu's first mixed, mafuyu feels insecure towards ichika because unlike ichika, she feels as if her lyrics have no genuine meaning to be expressed to other people— despite them being her very real feelings. this is brought up again in her second mixed as well.

in tsukasa's third focus event, something similar happens. when watching seiichi's performance, he thinks that his acting is "real" and feels inferior towards him, which is ironic because tsukasa has been method acting this whole time. when tsukasa is acting out rio or bartlett or really anyone at this point in the story, it's not just those characters— it's a reflection of his traumas.

just like mafuyu, tsukasa undermines his passions he's poured his feelings into because someone else's work is more genuine in his eyes.

now, then, foils have many similarities and parallels (and i could honestly list a lot more), but how i define them is that they usually have some kind of major branching difference that MAKES them foils.

for mafuyu and tsukasa it's pretty straightforward.

mafuyu's people pleasing behavior comes from external expectations and pressures— her mother's demands.

tsukasa's people pleasing behavior comes internally, from himself— if he can't meet his own standards, if he can't be the perfect big brother or the perfect star, then he is nothing.

and even then, there's some overlap.

tsukasa's behavior was indirectly encouraged by his mother praising him for being a "good big brother" over the phone instead of asking him if he was okay while home alone.

mafuyu's terrified to be herself around other people because she doesn't want to worry or bother them— she doesn't want to be a burden— and projects her mother's expectations onto them, not realizing that they would prefer the real mafuyu if they knew the truth.

and the concept of mafukasa being foils is most perfectly and blatantly portrayed in these two cards.

mafuyu, the marionette, sitting limp on the floor— puppeteered by her mother's demands and donning a mask to hide her true self.

tsukasa, the jester, standing above everything else— puppeteering silenced plushies— his feelings. he's not being completely honest with himself, and he doesn't even realize it.

mafuyu has cut her strings and ripped her mask in half. she has acknowledged her true feelings and expressed them to her mother, even if she had to run away in the end.

tsukasa has not yet cut his.
