Anyway, people with brain damage I love you. People who have had strokes I love you, especially if you're told you were "too young" to have one. People who acquired your brain damage by less common means such as infection, lack of oxygen at birth or degenerative disease, I love you. People with moderate and severe brain damage, I love you. People who lost their sight or hearing or ability to speak because of their brain damage, I love you. People who have paralysis from their brain damage, I love you. People with amnesia and severe cognitive issues from their brain damage, I love you. People with rare and unusual symptoms from their brain damage, I love you.
You are not a punchline, you haven't lost your humanity, your thoughts and opinions are as valuable as anyone else's. We deserve respect.

give love to people with traumatic brain injury, acquired brain injury, stroke, neurological condition, worsening mental health, trauma, PTSD and all other brain based conditions that make you feel conflicted about your identity. About whether or not you’re the ‘same person’ you were before your injury or illness. People constant evolve and change but can be more difficult when changes more sudden, pronounced, and noticed by others. I hope you are doing well and are able to find some peace, support and love.

As someone who is somewhat of a “veteran” of the online ND community, I’m disappointed in the lack of positivity and love for lesser known diverse cognitive conditions, and the opposing abundance of posts about “cures” or outdated criteria or treatments for those conditions. So, without further ado, I want to say hello to anyone with any of the disorders I’m listing, and give them the love and support that hardly anyone else in our community has… Shoutout to:
People with Down syndrome
People with Fragile X
People with William’s syndrome
People with dyslexia
People with dyspraxia
People with dyscalculia
People with dysgraphia
People with Prader-Willi syndrome
People with PANS or PANDAS
People with aphasia
People with a TBI (traumatic brain injury)
People with chronic/early onset mental illnesses
People with cerebral palsy
People with FASD or were otherwise disabled via other substances in utero
And many, many more I may have forgotten to list (but still support and love, I will add more to my list)
You are all beautiful and wonderful, and you all deserve so more love, appreciation, acceptance and support. You are just as neurodiverse as the rest of us, and your voices deserve to be heard and amplified.
I love you all ❤️

People forget that recovering from an injury takes so much energy. It’s not just pain, but a constant exhaustion as your body dedicates all of its resources to repairing itself. This can last weeks or months.
The same is true in the aftermath of a severe illness. You’re not necessarily “well” after the infection passes. Your body has to recover from the damage done by the infection. It leaves a person weak and lethargic well after they’ve “recovered” from their illness.
So, imagine a Whumpee being forced to work again immediately after an illness or injury.

Thinking about the possibility of Fiddleford noticing various random injuries & unexplained bruises that Ford would’ve received from when he was possessed.
Thinking about how he’d be concerned for his friend, only for Ford to shut him out, not wanting to reveal the existence of his “muse”.
Thinking about, despite his best efforts, Fiddleford would be forced to watch Ford suffer in silence, unwilling to tell him the truth.

Catching Whumpee...:
Bandaging themselves, hisses of pain as they treat their wounds and hide evidence of their injury
Sneaking away from the crowd, looking pale and unwell
Sitting down when the rest of the team isn't looking
Struggling to catch their breath
Needing to slow down or stop "for just a moment"
Taking an uncharacteristic nap (either completely exhausted or something is Very Wrong)
"I'll catch up with you guys in a sec!"
Staring at an item that has significant (or traumatic) meaning to them
When they can't hold back their tears any longer
"Sorry- I didn't know you were there..."
"Get out!"
Looking lost
Gazing at their old scars and faded bruises
Taking medication for a problem the other character never knew they had
Showing a symptom they denied having
In much more pain than they originally let on
When they're having an off day and a small thing causes them to lash out/break down/panic
"(Please) Don't tell anyone about this."
Sleeping later than usual
Still awake (or not sleeping at all)
Grimaces and pain noises when they think no one can hear or see them, trying to get into a more comfortable position
When they're finally left alone and all the energy they put into acting normal/well vanishes
With that distant look in their eyes
Literally catching whumpee as they start to lose consciousness

Reader who's shuffling towards their winter break, exhausted, malaised. The beginnings of a flu are catching in your throat, nose blocked up and head-heavy. Too overtired to notice the way things have been moving around your apartment
—scratches around the locks, food gone from the fridge, an extra cup sitting in the drying rack—
It's only when you finally reach Friday night, with the time and the promise of a lie-in on Saturday, that you start to feel a prickling on your neck. Shaking it off, you take a hot shower, steam furling and opening up your congested nose. Hot water spraying over your aching muscles—
—except
The shampoo is almost used up. The bathroom was already slightly damp when you got in.
When you reach for the towel, it's already wet. Hastily folded over the rack, and smelling like you but more—
The lights go out as you're staring at your stunned face in the steam-hazed mirror.

Whumpee being left with a Negligent Caretaker (NC) after their real Caretaker leaves for an extended period of time. Maybe Caretaker has to travel to get a doctor or some medicine and trusts NC to care for Whumpee while they’re gone.
Maybe NC fails to give Whumpee pain killers, leaving them to suffer the full extent of their illness/injuries for hours on end. Maybe Whumpee is left dehydrated from all the sweating/puking/blood loss. Maybe Whumpee is starving as their body is deprived of the vital nutrients it needs to heal. Maybe Whumpee gets desperate and crawls out of bed to reach the bathroom, or to retrieve something they need. In doing so, they pass out or bust a stitch.
If NC is enough of an asshole, they might even scold Whumpee for giving them more work. NC is disgusted by Whumpee, making them feel ashamed of their condition, and for having normal bodily processes.
When the real Caretaker gets back, they beat the shit out of NC.
