if kamala harris wins and she continues to send money to israel, will liberals soothe and satisfy themselves with the belief that trump would’ve sent more, and therefore it’s okay that they did not push for better?

You know typically in posts that put the lives of USian citizens above the lives of Palestinians y’all at least pay lip service to the people you’re willing to let Kamala genocide because you’re shaking in your boots about Project 2025. Interesting strategy here to instead completely ignore all of Kamala’s Bush-esque policy promises and act like it’s so #girlboss to vote in the self-described Top Cop and there’s zero nuance whatsoever. What exactly does Kamala offer Palestinian-Americans, and for that matter Arab-Americans as a whole, that they should vote for her?
due to systemic oppression, usamerican leftists don't currently have the political power to instate a leftist president. we do, however, have enough power to make one of two candidates lose the election. we could use this power to make the white supremacist lose to the black woman, or we could use it to make the black woman lose to the white supremacist. the obvious choice for leftists would be to prioritize making the white supremacist lose, but tumblr users have devised a loop hole, where they agitate primarily for making the black woman lose, but omit the detail about who she would be losing to. this makes their stance more palatable to people who correctly believe that having a white supremacist president would be the worst possible outcome.

For the love of Goddd it is not 🤙🏻owning the libs😎 to be all ✨both sides✨ about the Democratic and Republican parties, it’s uhhh denying reality lmao.
If you’ve paid the most minute amount of attention to the US election outside of viral soundbytes you categorically cannot claim that both sides are even remotely the same: completely different views on the working person. Completely different views on reproductive rights. Very different views on gun control. I could go on and on and on.
And yes, they do in fact have different views on Israel. One side is eye-rollingly centrist about the issue but acknowledges the suffering of both Palestinians and Israelis alike and is open to providing aid to Gaza and possibly a ceasefire. The other side openly wants Palestine bombed off the map. If you can’t see that those are verrry different views and that one, although not ideal, is significantly preferable to the other, then sorry but you’re living in a fantasy world of pure naïveté where, in the US and the entire world in their current states, you think you’re going to find a frontrunning politician who isn’t some level of apathetic or straight up hungry towards war. And if you can somehow find one, you’re gonna have to show massive support for them for many years OUTSIDE of election season, not just kick your feet up and only remind people of their existence when two candidates you don’t like are frontrunning against each other. That’s just not how third party support works.
It’s fine to criticise the Democratic party. It’s GOOD to criticise them. They could always be doing more for the most vulnerable and that deserves criticism. Kamala Harris proudly stating she is going to ensure the US has the most lethal military in the world is nothing short of horrifying and not something that should be endorsed by literally anyone; her centrist-level takes on Israel are also very much worthy of criticism.
But this singular issue voting, “both sides are just as bad” mindset a lot of (usually around my age) voters seem to have is seriously concerning to me because you CANNOT base your voting and/or political activism around idealism. Real change just simply does not happen that quickly. You have to work for it and sometimes that means holding your nose and voting for someone whom you’d absolutely end up in a heated argument with over a holiday dinner — because they are a baby step towards someone you’d instead happily shake hands with.
Plus the whole, you know, Donald Trump wants the rich to stay rich, anyone whom he doesn’t perceive to be a white American to never remain in “his” country and for LGBTQ people to be erased in both the historical and literal sense, plus many, many more. A vote that isn’t for Harris/Walz is a vote for Trump/Vance. Remember that.
Vote Blue — and then, HOLD THEM TO ACCOUNT.

Long venting post:
I accidentally ended up visiting my parents tonight. Basically I was bringing back the dog after taking her during the day and my mom was just getting home and she was like, “are you gonna stay and talk or…”
And I felt like I should but I knew I shouldn’t, especially because my mom was on the phone with her sister and so I’d be waiting around for her to get off the phone first, so I was like, “No, I was just dropping off Lucy,” and I went home.
But then a few minutes later my mom texted me a picture of mail for me from the doctor’s office, which must have been sent before I updated my address with them. I eventually went to get it, and now my dad was home and my sister was there.
My dad was in the middle of ordering food and asked if I wanted anything. I said no at first, but it was from a place I’d been wanting to try and so I changed my mind. So then I’m waiting for the food and start talking, eat, and keep talking, and I end up there until like 11 PM.
And mostly it was good but then it was so bad. There was some stuff that was nice, like my mom and my sister were talking about makeup and I didn’t chime in because even though they know I’m trans I don’t think they’ve come to terms with the idea that I wear makeup and haven’t seen me in it, and also my dad was still awake in the other room.
Then later they’re talking about their hair and how long it is and stretching to see how far down it goes. I’m pretty dysphoric about my hair but I mostly just felt included in it so it was fine. Then my mom made a comment “I know you’re jealous” about the long hair, and I thought it was a nice inclusive thing to recognize that I’m jealous of them having long hair, but in hindsight, she might have meant it as a hair loss joke.
And then it took a turn for the worse when my sister said she’s planning on voting for Trump now. The thing that she said convinced her was him saying he’d make IVF free, which would be a big deal for her, but it’s also clearly a lie based on his past actions and obviously that ignores everything else.
But then it got worse because she started talking about the same conspiracy theory stuff my grandmother had gotten down that made it impossible to talk to her, and from her explanations it’s clear that she’s started getting conservative conspiracy theory TikToks and fallen for them.
But what makes it so hard to argue with them is that they both (my mom included) believe that the only thing politics really effects is how much they pay in taxes and stuff that effects other people far away that they don’t care about, and despite my sister sometimes claiming otherwise, they both have extremely xenophobic beliefs deeply ingrained, but they do things like say something awful and then say they were joking, or act like it’s the group they’re offending that just can’t take a joke, and how the real victims are the white people being called racist, and stuff like that.
So I’m like trying to make them see the they’re being brainwashed by all this conservative propaganda that they’re suddenly believing all this stuff, and meanwhile they’re acting like I’m being so unreasonable for being offended that they’re voting to take away not just my rights but all of our rights so they can maybe save money on taxes. Because in their view it’s ridiculous to get this worked up over politics.
And when I bring up a specific issue it’s met with one of the following responses:
Baseless speculation that maybe Kamala Harris also will do the same thing anyway or something worse because who knows
Dismiss it as not important
Glance around awkwardly because the elephant in the room is that they don’t actually want trans rights or feminism.
And the inherent hypocrisy in so many of their arguments. That gender affirming care for trans people shouldn’t be free “because it’s a choice I’m making” vs her PCOS treatments should be because that’s an actual medical thing. They’re literally both gender affirming care. The only difference is despite claiming to not be transphobic she doesn’t see me as a “real woman”. Or to have my mom and my sister sit there and tell me how the last thing we need is a woman as president.
They both hated Trump a few months ago. And now they defend his crimes and horrible behavior/personality while condemning Kamala Harris not based on even knowing anything about her, but just because they heard her talk and thought she seemed kinda fake.
So eventually I went home and I forgot the mail I went there for and now the night’s over and I’m so fucking tired.

Nm, I’m gonna make a new intro but make it more blunt instead of over explaining everything.
Basic info: My name is Riah and it’s pronounced like Maya not Mia. I’m 22, non-binary (they/them), asexual, have autism, adhd, generalized anxiety, and likely SAD. Based in the northeastern USA. I’m in a lot of fandoms mainly Genshin, Zelda, animation and Disney, GOTG/Marvel, Mega Man, Sonic, and whatever I like at the time. I also like music, dancing, K-pop, and all that. I like alt rock and pop music like Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Radiohead, Bjork, Billie, Florence, etc etc and I like pop and K-pop, Dua, Olivia, Chappell, and K-pop girlies Blackpink, Gidle, Itzy, Mamamoo, Aespa, IVE, etc etc. Dreamcatcher is my fav group they are dark concept queens. I’m also slightly obsessed with Lee Taemin, he is the god of pop and K-pop. I have a lot of trauma from bad friends and my ex so a long DNI, sorry.
DNI:
Basic DNI, bigotry, ableism, PDF files, etc.
Toxic stans/petty drama/those who make themselves the victims always
People who hate on harmless interests
If you tell me who/what to boycott. I don’t have an issue with the cause but it is the tone used. Basically the “I am morally superior to you because I don’t support xyz” bs. Like informing is fine. Saying “here’s what this company donates to” but saying “you’re a terrible person and don’t care about xyz because you bought x” is not helpful and is triggering for me.
By this same logic, crazy vegans, environmentalists of any people who guilt trip and cannot understand nuance of our capitalist hellscape.
If you support Trump or say he’s better than Kamala or that you won’t vote for Kamala because of stupid reason xyz even tho she’s by far the better option.
Any form of bigotry and queerphobia that includes apathy
Transmedicalists or whatever tf you call yourselves these days.
Cis men who hate Korra as a character are on thin ice
If you make bad faith arguments about fiction in general/taking it way too serious or not serious at all when it does pertain to real issues.
If you think bad things can’t be talked about in fiction. As long as it’s handled well and shown bad thing is bad, I like to explore darkness as I’m a writer.
If you agree/defend Lily Orchard’s bad takes and then say she’s only hated cuz she’s trans
If you saying liking SU means you wanna forgive not sees or other brain dead cartoon takes
“All (insert ship here) are toxic”
“There’s no need for fanfic, canon is fine” or just disrespecting harmless headcanons and creativity in general. If you don’t like fanfic, don’t read it.
If you ship: Azula and Zuko (ewwww), Anna/Elsa (it’s an actual thing on AO3), any other bio siblings close bio relatives, immediate yeet, dark themes should be explored but shipping is condoning imo. Okay, let’s see: Catradora, Kaeluc, Thorki, Alluthor, any other adopted/pseudo adopted incest. Idc if it’s canon. You can ship what you want privately but please don’t discuss it with me and if you comment about it it’ll block you and I’ll also block if I see it on my feed. Also shit like Reylo would only be abusive if it happened before Ben turned good (I don’t ship it anymore) but ACTUAL abuse (Dottoscara or don’t even get me started on Collei), please DNI.
Also like this goes without saying but PDF file ships.
Lolisha content or discourse about whether it should be allowed (no, it shouldn’t)
I’m on thin ice with age gaps because of my ex, just be mindful about that.
Have whatever religion you want but do not force it down my throat , I probably don’t share your religion so it doesn’t apply to me.
Making judgments about my life/telling me to go to therapy (I’m in therapy). Any sort of unsolicited advice is a big no/no. If I offend you please just block me or give it to me straight but don’t assume shit you don’t know.
Just don’t be an ass in general.
TW/CW:
Please warn me if you’re going to talk to me about these topics:
Medical stuff, hospitals, cancer, etc.
Sewer slide and SH
Politics. Especially anti queer legislation and stuff. If I block you it doesn’t mean I disagree, it’s just causing me stress.
Religion/religious trauma
Mommy issues
SA and grooming
Death
I’m probably forgetting some but idk.
Anyway thanks. If this offends you literally just DNI or block me. I’m allowed to set my own boundaries on my page. Thanks.
Also all of my stuff https://linktr.ee/Riahlexuko

You guys gotta take the good with the bad and push for meaningful things man. What is the point of bringing that up? He’s come out and admitted his mishandling of that which is leaps and bounds more than a fuck ton of politicians do. This is the time to realize that they (the democratic party) are, to everyone’s surprise and relief, fucking listening to their base of voters for once.
They realized Joe Biden was a walking carcass incapable of coalescing anyone over policy without us falling asleep and shitting on him for going above and beyond to blow up Palestinian children and their families for 10 months, they saw this and said okay fine let’s do something with this incumbent advantage and run kamala out instead.
They saw Josh Shapiro and his outspokenness on his desire to jail peaceful anti-genocide students and sick rabid pig dogs on them, and instead they gave us the guy who did not say those things (while also being even better than kamala at positively messaging progressive policy to voters).
Right now is the time to hold your vote hostage to these fucks. The DNC is next week for fucks sake we need to be loudly demanding real things from them while they are still trying to appease us in any way.
A genocide (and apartheid state) sustained by a steady flow of our taxes and weapons could be ended and a ceasefire passed with a single call to isr*el and telling them ceasefire now or no more weapons. It would be over tomorrow and some children in Gaza and their parents wouldn’t have to die tomorrow. An arms embargo is what we all need to be organizing and calling all of our representatives to be pushing kamala to support. Everyone was crying about how it was too close to the dnc to replace Joe Biden as the nominee to give us a chance against cheeto hitler 2.0 who wants to put 20 million people in concentration camps. More people are gonna cry that they’ll never agree to support an arms embargo and normally they’d be right except the democratic party is for once in my life acting like they want to win and at least posturing like they care about us, and we absolutely can force their hand on adopting an arms embargo that presidents like Reagan have used before to control isr*el in moments of their unrestrained genocidal rampage.
We all fucking hate Biden bc he’s a rabid zi*nist and as someone running for to retain the highest office in the world, saying you want a ceasefire doesn’t mean a thing when you have the power to stop supplying the genocidal regime.
You’re gonna sit there and tell me you wouldn’t vote for this Harris/Walz ticket if they came out in full throated support of employing an arms embargo to force isr*el to stop the genocide?
tldr; I don’t think any of us would trade peace for Palestinians, for a democratic ticket without Walz. We all need to recognize the momentum we as voters currently have and use it to organize and influence the democratic party (kamala) to support an arms embargo against the genocidal apartheid state in order to force a ceasefire.

answering questions I’ve been asked on TikTok✨
Tumblr media
.
.
.
QUESTION: how did you get into reading?
So, when I was in middle school (many moons ago) we had this thing called AR Testing. Basically, you read a book and take a test on it—the questions were things that happened in the book, it was really simple. If you got a good grade, you got points. The more points you earned, the more eligible you were for the reading party at the end of each semester. Me, being the nerd I am, got top of my class because I went through 8th grade level books like it was nothing. The librarian at my school brought me books from the high school to read since everything was easy for me, and alas, my addiction began. And now that I have adult money, it’s a true addiction. Also, telling my father “I’m bored” and his response being, “go read a book or something” so thanks dad.
QUESTION: what’s one book you ALWAYS recommend to people?
This one is tough because I’ve read THOUSANDS of books, but if I had to choose one, it would probably be Confess by Colleen Hoover. I fell in love with her work in high school when I first read Ugly Love, but Confess is the type of book that pulls at your heart strings, y’all. It has everything people love: humor, sexual tension, drama, love. GO BUY THE DAMN BOOK. Or honestly any book by Colleen Hoover—she’s a fucking amazing author.
QUESTION: outside of making TikToks, what do you do for a living?
I currently work at a restaurant and hate every second of it. If anyone tells you to become a server, DONT. It’s not worth the hassle, I promise you. Sure, you can make decent money but the amount of rude customers and shitty tips you receive each shift is very disheartening. If you really need a job, do anything BUT work in the food industry.
QUESTION: what’s your wattpad story about?
First question: which one? I have about 30 drafts sitting there waiting to be posted. But, I’m going to assume you’re talking about the Harry Styles fan fiction I’ve been working on for the past 4 years and haven’t had the courage to post. I’ll tell you a little about it: Elaine Aldridge is forced into a betrothal to a man she’s never met & loathes. She goes to his court and realizes things aren’t what they truly seem. And the guard her future husband sticks on her??? None other than Mr. Harry Styles. Add in some magic & deaths and you’ve got my story— The First Prince. (Honestly, that’s an extremely shitty description so if you wanna check it out go to my wattpad account)
QUESTION: how old are you?
Ahem. . . twenty-one.
QUESTION: what is your dream career?
Being a published author and having people rave about my books. That’s all. Or, an editor for a publishing company. Imagine reading all day and being paid for it🤩
QUESTION: what was your least favorite read of 2020?
I already KNOW I’m gonna get shit for this but....... the wicked king. YALL I LITERALLY COULDNT GET THROUGH IT IM SO SORRY, I STILL HAVENT FINISHED IT
QUESTION: current favorite author?
Sarah. J. Maas. I don’t know what it is about her writing style, but it’s addicting. Throne of Glass is hands down the best series I’ve ever read. A Court of Thorns and Roses is the first book I’ve EVER reread. Her stories truly suck you in and hold onto you—you get lost so easily in her writing and it’s like once you’re done with a series, nothing will compare. Or, at least that’s how I felt after finishing Kingdom of Ash. Honorable mentions: Jennifer L. Armentrout, Penelope Douglas, L.J Shen, Elle Kennedy and Kennedy Fox.
QUESTION: any recommendations/tips to give to a new reader?
I’ve always given this advice to people who want to get into reading: find what you like and start with that. If you like romance, I’ve got a list for you to choose from. Mystery? Another list. Sci-fi? I GOT YOU. Fantasy? Yes! Sports fiction? It might take me a second but I’ll find you a book. Nonfiction? I’m zero help in that category, honestly. The point of the matter is that you’re never going to enjoy a book if you aren’t interested in the underlying topics.
QUESTION: do you ever find yourself comparing your life to fictional life?
Yes. All the time. I daydream about being apart of the Inner Circle and living in Terrasen with Aelin and Rowan. I think about what it would be like to have real powers and a mate. It drives my boyfriend crazy—but he loves me anyway.
QUESTION: what are your most anticipated books of 2021?
Here’s a list:
A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas
The Crown of Gilded Bones by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Gods and Monsters by Shelby Mahurin
Crescent City 2 (Untitled) by Sarah J. Maas
A Vow So Bold and Deadly by Brigid Kemmerer (I just ordered this one & it arrives tomorrow)
Blessed Monsters by Emily A. Duncan
QUESTION: why did you start a Tumblr?
Honestly, I used to love tumblr when I was in grade school (way too young to be on here then but what else is new). I like having an extra space to get my questions and comments out without having to compress it into a 60 second video for TikTok to see. Tumblr is a good place to blog & post things like this.
QUESTION: what’s your favorite song right now?
I’ve listened to Carry You by Novo Amor every day for the past two months and I cry each time.
QUESTION: why write Harry Styles fan fiction?
Simple: I love Harry Styles. I’ve been a fan of him and One Direction since they were on X FACTOR. Read that again. X. Factor. I used to watch their performances on YouTube before WMYB even came out. Of course, I love all of the 1D boys but I was always a Harry gal. And I look up to him in a way—I’ve read things about people wishing they knew him personally and honestly? I would never want to meet him. I like the version of him I’ve cooked up in my brain over the past 10 years. I like the symbiotic relationship I have with his music. Fine Line is a ✨masterpiece✨. HS1 is a ✨work of art✨.
now, some topics I’ve been asked way too many times and want to finally get to:
QUESTION: political views?
the saying “anyone but trump” has been in my brain for the past four years. No, I’m not a republican. No, I’m not a democrat. I like to think of myself as a progressive (ahem, liberal) Did I vote for a democratic candidate? Yes, and I’d do it again and again until the US isn’t one of the worst countries—I’m sorry, businesses— to be apart of. I wanted Bernie but got Biden, and I’m alright with that. And my girl Kamala🥳
QUESTION: how did you feel about the BLM protests?
I went to multiple BLM protests and donated a lot of funds to BLM & other organizations. It’s 2021, people... stop being fucking RACIST. And don’t be afraid to call racist people out! Black Lives Matter, even if no one is posting about it anymore.
QUESTION: thoughts on abortion?
your body your choice, queen! not my uterus, not my problem.
QUESTION: there was a comment on an old video of yours talking about r*pe, why did you delete the comment?
I made a video when I first started my account on TikTok about reading in public and feeling “turned on” by it. Go watch it if you don’t know what I’m talking about. BUT, some ignorant male decided to comment and say “this is how girls get r*ped”. Whew. So. I deleted the comment because ....
I am a victim of sexual assault. Along with a lot of other women. 1 in 5 women have been victims of sexual assault. Talking about being r*ped isn’t funny.
No one else needed to see his comment. I reported it immediately and his account was shut down.
I never got justice for what happened to me, and the fact that some random male—who had never even met me or seen me before my video showed up on his FYP—had the nerve to comment that? Unacceptable.
this question isn’t as controversial but
QUESTION: what’s the best way to get out of a toxic relationship?
okay, let me just start off by saying that the people around you who love and support you are going to be your backbone. Leaving a toxic situation is hard, and every situation is different, but my best piece of advice to offer you is don’t be afraid to ask for help. Your loved ones are going to be there for you when you need them, even if you don’t believe they will. If you explain what’s happening, someone you know and love will drop whatever it is their doing to make sure you get out safely. good luck my babes.
now, back to our regularly scheduled program:
QUESTION: any tips on making tiktoks?
Literally none. I post what I think is funny and relatable and if anyone agrees, I’m satisfied. Even if it’s one view, it’s good enough for me. So I guess my one tip is to not base your life off of an app and followers.
QUESTION: favorite Harry Styles fanfic?
DONT MAKE ME CHOOSE. Duplicity is up there, along with Stall 1&2, and Kiwi. After? Absolutely not.
QUESTION: favorite WEBTOON?
y’all already KNOW. LORE OLYMPUS BY USEDBANDAID. Rachel is a genius and I have reread the series a million times. Hades is my soulmate and Apollo can rot in the fiery pits of the Underworld. also, if we’re talking about other webcomics, reading Walk on Water on mangadex...🤫
Tumblr media
QUESTION: favorite movie?
Howls Moving Castle. I will be getting my “a heart is a heavy burden” tattoo very very soon.
Tumblr media
QUESTION: I read your Elain theory on tumblr, can you explain a little more?
I thought I was pretty straightforward but I’ll say it again: she is always the “good” one and it’s too suspicious. SJM has already given one Archeron sister a happy ending, Nesta’s is obviously inevitable, but Elain? She has too many options for a happy ending. Lucien, who is her “mate”. Azriel, who is intrigued by her slightly. Her human guy—I don’t remember his name—who is disgusted that she’s not human anymore. Or, alone, planting flowers all day. BUT! My point is that she’s not truly happy. She was forced into the Cauldron just like Nesta. She was ripped away from the life she loved so dearly and didn’t want to give up. The man she was going to marry now hates her guts because she’s a High Fae. She has the perfect set up for a villain plot line and I’m all here for it.
well, that’s all I feel like doing tonight. hope you enjoyed my little q&a! be kind, and talk to you later! byeeee!

I’m saying this as a cisgender queer white guy. I can understand the idea of people being unhappy with Biden as the democratic pick, and Harris as his vice president. There’s still a lot I don’t understand which is my fault because I’m dense. People are allowed to be unhappy about it.
But speaking bluntly, NONE OF US have the luxury to be picky now and to gripe about the presidential nominations against Trump as of this moment are not going to help. Trump is a monster.
TRUMP. IS. A. MONSTER.
I can’t believe I have to fucking spell that out at this point, after 4 years of him and another potential 4 years, OR MORE, looming on the horizon. He is a monster. He is literally the worst humanity has to offer. How many people have died in the past 4 years because of him, and how many wish they were dead after the state they’ve been left in? Not just him, but his administration and the Republicans who keep championing his gross abuse of civil and human rights.
And not just the Republicans, but the Democrats who believe their votes don’t matter or the voters who will vote for a third party candidate out of spite to Trump AND Biden. THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED 4 YEARS AGO AND LOOK WHERE IT GOT US. BECAUSE PEOPLE THOUGHT TRUMP WAS BAD BUT THEY WEREN’T WILLING TO VOTE FOR HILLARY CLINTON.
Our economy is in shambles.
Children are trapped in cages and sprayed with poison.
Those who didn’t get killed by COVID will probably suffer from permanent health issues that will most likely kill them eventually.
Our country is either despised, pitied, or laughed at by the rest of the world.
Yes, I know democracy is flawed. Yes, I know Biden and Harris may not be great candidates. BUT VOTING FOR  JOE BIDEN AND KAMALA HARRIS IS JUST ABOUT THE ONLY OPTION ANY OF US HAS TO STOP TRUMP FROM FULLY TURNING THIS COUNTRY INTO A REDUX OF NAZI GERMANY.
YOU HAVE HEARD HIM.
HE’S TALKING MORE THAN FOUR YEARS IF HE’S REELECTED AND HE’LL DO IT. YOU’VE SEEN WHAT HE’S CAPABLE OF. BENEATH THE SPRAY TAN AND THE NONSENSE HE IS A GODDAMN SOCIOPATH WHO HAS RAPED THIS COUNTRY AND MANY OF YOU WOULD RATHER LET HIM KEEP DOING THAT THAN VOTE FOR THE ONLY PEOPLE IN A TRUE POSITION TO FIX THE DAMAGE.
YOU WANT TO COMPLAIN ABOUT BIDEN AND HARRIS? FINE. YOU WANT TO BE ANGRY ABOUT WHAT THEY’VE DONE? THAT’S YOUR RIGHT. BUT FIRST LET’S GET THEM INTO OFFICE AND GET TRUMP OUT, AND THEN YOU CAN FIGHT TO HAVE JUSTICE BROUGHT AGAINST THE WRONGS THEY’VE COMMITTED.
BECAUSE THIS ISN’T JUST ABOUT YOU, AND IT’S NOT ABOUT ME. IT’S ABOUT ALL OF US. THIS IS ABOUT THE PEOPLE DYING FROM COVID BECAUSE TRUMP ENABLED A PANDEMIC. THIS IS ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO LOST THEIR JOBS AND THEIR HOMES BECAUSE OF TRUMP. THIS IS ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO WERE HERDED UP AND TRAPPED IN CAGES BY ICE THANKS TO TRUMP’S ADMINISTRATION. THIS IS ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE DIED BECAUSE OF TRUMP AND THE REPUBLICANS.
SO FORGIVE ME FOR SAYING THIS, BUT IF YOU’RE NOT WILLING TO VOTE FOR THE ONLY CANDIDATES MOST LIKELY TO GET TRUMP OUT OF THE WHITE HOUSE AND MAKE AN EFFORT TO FIX HIS DAMAGE, OR IF YOU THINK YOUR VOTE DOESN’T MATTER OR YOU’RE GONNA VOTE FOR A THIRD PARTY CANDIDATE, THEN YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM AND YOU NEED TO SHUT THE FUCK UP.

I dunno maybe all those liberal voters who care about ending the genocide CAN FUCKING VOTE FOR A CANDIDATE THAT WANTS TO END THE GENOCIDE??? If the majority of Americans able to vote are not in favor of ending the genocide than we’re in much worse shit than anything Project 2025 proposes.
You say it makes your blood boil, but what are you ACTUALLY going to do about it? Prioritize your own safety apparently. Because that’s what liberals always do. It’s never the “right time” for progress, because seeing Justice done might cost YOU too much.
How much time do you think the Palestinian people have? How long must they wait till you’re willing to help make it stop? Even the bombs and bullets aside, food is scarce and the water is laced with polio. They might not have 4 months much less 4 years.
Jasmine Sherman is on the ballot in 48 out of 50 states. That is massive for a 3rd party candidate, this is our best shot at not just ending the genocide but at breaking the stranglehold Republicans and Democrats have on the US. But of course, that would require enough liberals be willing to take a chance on a 3rd party even if it risks splitting the vote and getting Trump elected. It’s the Prisoner’s Dilemma. The only way to win is to not make the selfish choice and trust everyone else to do that same. But you won’t of course. Trump and Project 2025 is just too scary for YOU. So you’ll write the Palestinians off as damned either way, no matter how much it makes your heart ache which I’m sure is a great consolation to them.
But hey, why don’t you ask some Palestinians how they feel about the slower, smaller backhoe killing them and their families instead of the bigger one. Cause see, the things about differences is that they’re all relative. A peregrine falcon is a lot faster than a wolf, but if I’m a little bunny with a broken foot it doesn’t fucking matter which one is hunting me. My odds are zero either way. Similarly, when things reach a certain level of bad it’s hard for it to be meaningfully worse. It’s impossible for Trump or Kamala or whomever gets elected to make the Palestinian Genocide meaningfully worse. It is already a genocide. Every other day there’s the reveal of a new crime against humanity, another cruelty or injustice gleeful inflicted on starving children. This hole isn’t getting any deeper, and all Trump or Kamala are gonna do is maintain this course.
Look. Whatever happens you and I will be fine enough. Even under another Trump presidency we can probably get by ok. It won’t be nice, it’ll be a lot of hard work, but we can do it. We have before. Palestinians are being genocided right now, a genocide aided and abetted by our president. Everything they are is at risk. Every song, every painting, every recipe, every man, woman, and child. Nothing we might go through compares to that. Nothing. We need to be brave and do what’s right, even if it costs us our privilege and comfort. THIS IS NOT ABOUT US.
Congress gave Netanyahu a standing ovation this week. Democrats and Republicans both. Neither party is going to fix things because they financially benefit more from them being broken. A 3rd party president is the most direct and PEACEFUL resolution we have a genuine shot at, and can go a long way to nipping a lot of other serious problems in the bud. The world is a pressure cooker right now, and it’s fit to blow any second. Climate Collapse is ongoing, looming over us like the Sword of Damocles and in some parts of the world it’s already dropped. People are dying because of us. Humanity cannot afford another president who’s only interested in maintaining the American Empire and pleasing corporate interests no matter the human cost. You need to have solidarity with your fellow humans, both at home and abroad, it’s the only way any of us are getting out of this alive.
under harris and trump my cousin will continue to be preyed on by police. under harris and trump he will not be able to stay in his home state. under harris and trump the man i befriended at the airport after a six hour flight will continue to have to travel from the northern us border over the southern on a laundry worker's salary to see his family. under harris and trump palestinians will continue to have their slaughter go unquestioned by its sponsors. under harris and trump my other cousin will continue to hate being black.
i really don't care that us white queers will suffer more under trump. i think voting to save ourselves is enacting violence on our loved ones. i care to have a world where they can go about their lives with ease. i care to tell my government that their continued actions against that will never have my support. i don't care to save my own skin when it pushes that future away from my family and the virtual strangers i hold in my heart.
don't vote harris. for the love of god or the love of your friends. please. voting for sherman, or de la cruz if their standing is too risky, or abstaining entirely is a greater step toward progress than voting blue no matter who.
if no one ever took a step toward progress that risked their own wellbeing then we wouldn't have progress in the first place. why should we be the only ones not to suffer. why should i save my skin while cementing my friends further into danger.

Note
I agree with you that the whole political system in the US is rotten to its core. I don't know what it is, but it's not a democracy. And yes, Biden won't bring the structural change that's needed. However, don't you think it'll be easier to get any change at all if after the election we get a blue house, senate and president? (Not to mention the supreme court seats won't fall into Republican's hands.) I mean, at least this way there's a chance progressives can get some of their causes through.
okay, so this is like the only ask i’m going to answer about this because i do NOT want this page to turn into this, this blog is the only part of the entire internet for me that isn’t entirely devoted to politics, organizing, radical education, theory, community-building, mutual aid, agitation, etc. i do that on literally every other social media platform and i do not want to do it here. that said i will answer this ask, i guess, though not exactly in the way you asked it i’m just gonna dump my thoughts on electoralism & this election here and i apologize in advance for how long this is going to be
to your general ask: yes, some people believe that. that is a reason many people are participating in this election (i go into that further down). my objection is not to the idea of participating in this election, the idea of voting, or the idea of voting for joe biden. it’s the entire framing of the situation & it’s the complete disregard for any people who have decided not to participate in this election, or who have decided to participate in this election & not vote for joe biden (i am NOT talking about republicans or trump supporters, that is a party of fascists & white supremacists & i am NOT talking about them, i’m talking about young people and the disaffected left). i’ll explain (under the cut so it doesn’t clutter y’alls feeds & so hopefully i won’t get as much hate because if there’s one thing i know it’s that no one on the internet reads)
what i object to is the framing of joe biden as anything less than an active enemy of the left & progressives. (the left & progressives are not the same thing, but they are both to the left of the dem party so i am putting them together for the sake of this argument but progressives are not leftists, though some leftists do describe themselves as progressives & vice versa, just want to put that out there to start.)
what i object to is the framing of joe biden as an ally. this kind of “at least he is willing to be pushed” “at least he’s already been pushed to the left by progressives” “at least he’s willing to listen & maybe with enough pressure we can get him where he needs to be!” “at least maybe a biden administration will support the policies we want them to!” because he’s not willing to learn, he’s not willing to help, he’s not willing to listen, he’s not willing to support progressive policies to tackle the healthcare/climate/war/imperialism crises or do any of that stuff. his policy goals, his entire campaign is basically to figure out what is the absolute bare MINIMUM thing he needs to do in order to say that he’s “moving the country in the right direction” so he can get elected & so he can get political cover from well-meaning but ultimately extremely sheltered dem figureheads while at the same time actively standing in the way of any real reform, progress, change, abolition, justice, etc. that’s his goal, he’s been very clear about that fact, i do not need to go into all the ways he’s already said & proved that! it’s obvious in his speeches, in the entire dnc (i watched every night of the dnc hoping for someone to lay out a good reason for me to vote for biden & i came up with 0 thanks democratic party), the people he has running his campaign, the donors he has, the lobbyists he hires to write his policy platform, the way he cozies up to billionaires, racists, segregationists, war criminals, and the way he always has in order to ‘maintain the order of politics’ & it’s gross & we don’t really need to go into it. he’s a capitalist, he’s a corporatist, he takes $$ from pharmaceutical companies and oil lobbyists and he is not a good person. BUT! many progressives know this and believe this, & still are voting for him. that is fine.
but we have to remember that joe biden is not our friend, he is not our ally, he is an enemy of the left, he is an active obstacle stopping us from achieving what we want to achieve (liberation, equality, justice, the dismantling of capitalism). so let’s not get it fucking twisted, like we need to be clear about that from the jump. we shouldn’t talk about him like he wants those things, like he’ll help us achieve those things, because he doesn’t, and he won’t, so we do not need to talk about him like he does. it is damaging to the progressive left of the democratic party to talk about biden like he’ll help us achieve any of our goals, because he won’t. we will need to fight just as hard if not HARDER under a biden administration to get the things we want, because we’ll be fighting with the people supposedly in our own party too, and they (along with the political machine they worship & kill themselves to support) are going to do everything they can to demonize and push out the young progressive diverse left, to break their spirits & destroy the political potential of the few politicians they actually do like, because that’s what they’ve always done, because the progressive left represents a threat to institutional capitalist white supremacist power. so our job would not be EASIER under a biden administration. it will just be different. we have to be very clear about that when we talk about what might happen in november.
now, that’s NOT TO SAY that there are not good reasons people have for voting for joe biden. i’m not telling people not to vote for joe biden and i am not telling people not to vote. that’s not what i’m saying. you just have to understand what this country is, what these politicians are, what they want, and what they are going to do to achieve what they want. just don’t lie about it. and only when you understand all of that can you make a truly informed decision about this upcoming election.
you can support joe biden for a lot of reasons. there are a lot of people whose politics don’t align with mine who want me to vote for joe biden, and there are people whose politics do align with mine who are making the choice to vote for joe biden. and the things that the latter group says, stuff that i find persuasive, is stuff like “joe biden is an enemy. donald trump is also an enemy. putting joe biden into office is better for the cause of liberation/leftists/revolution because he is a weaker enemy. he is a weaker opponent. we might be able to do things with him in office to help us tinker with the way our system is structured that will ultimately be for the benefit of the true left wing of this country, which will help future political actors survive in our rigged electoral system and maybe actually gain & maintain political power.” (stuff like abolishing the filibuster, getting rid of the electoral college, packing the courts, systemic changes that we need to make if we want to wrest control of this broken political system from the hands of fascists and white supremacists - many of whom sit inside the democratic party too, so let’s not get that twisted. all of these proposed changes, by the way, it’s important to note (unless i’m incorrect which i don’t think i am) joe biden doesn’t openly support or advocate for ANY of them, so let’s not get THAT twisted either.)
here’s the argument i think you’re making anon, from the mouth of comrade Angela Davis (libs love to weaponize angela davis’ words on biden without comprehending any of her politics or supporting her abolitionist policy positions, also there are other abolitionists who do not agree with davis here but i digress):
“In our electoral system as it exists, neither party represents the future that we need in this country. Both parties remain connected to corporate capitalism. But the election will not be so much about who gets to lead the country to a better future, but rather how we can support ourselves and our ability to continue to organize and place pressure on those in power. And I don’t think there’s a question about which candidate would allow that process to unfold… if we want to continue this work, we certainly need a person in office who will be more amenable to our mass pressure. And to me, that is the only thing that someone like Joe Biden represents.”
i don’t know if i fully agree with that argument per se! but i understand it, and i think it’s valid and valuable, and i understand arguments like that, and they are persuasive to me in many ways. because the republican party maintaining power is the way we slow-march into fascism, but also the democratic party getting/maintaining power is the way that we continue to slow-march to neoliberal destruction of the planet. so they’re both bad, obviously. but there are people who think (maybe they’re right! i’m swayed by this argument) that the biden administration would be easier to manipulate, easier to transform, than a trump administration.
(the counter-argument would maybe be that there are a lot of fucking liberals paying attention & even showing up in the streets right now because donald trump is the president, and if donald trump is no longer the president they’re gonna go home and be quiet and go back to brunch and close their eyes and plug their ears like they did with obama, just like they did during standing rock and ferguson and occupy, and be like “oh kamala harris wore CHUCKS on an AIRPLANE look at how COOL she is don’t you remember when there was a COOL war criminal in the white house?” there are people who are going to do that if biden/harris win, and that’s risky to me! like that is a risk we need to be talking about. i see that as dangerous. now, that’s not to say that’s more or less dangerous than what we currently have, it’s just a different kind of danger we need to be cognizant & wary of. and it’s people who post statuses like “fuck you all if you don’t vote for biden you privileged snowflake how dare you look at everything biden’s ever said done or promised he will do and decide that you don’t like that and you don’t want a part of it how dare you you fucking cuck you fucking idiot you support fucking fascists you fucking idiot” who make me lose my mind because like shut up! you don’t know what you’re talking about. there are people who know what they’re talking about who have decided they’re going to vote for joe biden and there’s people who know what they’re talking about who have decided they are not going to vote for joe biden, and you know what they don’t do? they don’t fucking fight each other, they don’t attack each other, they understand & support the reasons their comrades have for taking the action they are taking. and that is just what this is about. stop yelling at people that you don’t know who are making choices you don’t understand just because you don’t understand their choices.)
(this is even assuming biden will win, which is unlikely, or that trump will relinquish power, which is unlikely, or that there will be a peaceful transference of power and not a full-scale right-wing armed militia explosion of violence on american streets after november 3rd, so let’s all really be prepared for what might be coming in the next couple months!!!! all of these arguments mean next to nothing when we don’t even know what kind of violence awaits us in november)
it’s just psycho to think that joe biden is anything but an enemy. he is an enemy. and you can vote for an enemy and you can have your reasons for voting for an enemy, but don’t sell me shit and tell me it’s gourmet.
that’s mostly what i object to. the framing of this. and i’m not telling people not to vote for joe biden i’m not telling people not to vote. i think people should vote, because for those of us who are able & haven’t had that right stripped away from us or stolen from us by our own government, voting is easy, it’s literally the easiest thing that you can do because it’s also the LEAST politically effective thing that you can do. it’s like step fucking 1 because its impact is so low. that’s not a reason not to do it! that is not a reason not to do it. voting is important because any functioning society needs to have an engaged citizenry and an engaged electorate. now we don’t have that here, but you know what i’m saying. electoralism is a conditionally useful tool of enacting change and what we choose to do with that tool is an individual choice and there are people who are making different calculations than you, and they’re coming to different answers. and those people are often radicals, they’re often poor, they’re often black, or indigenous, or undocumented, or incarcerated. they’re often the most marginalized people in this society who are making these kinds of non-voting decisions, and it’s racist and misogynistic to assume that it’s all privileged white kids who are making that choice, because it isn’t, okay? it fucking isn’t.
and it’s so crazy because it’s always white cis libs who are talking about how important it is to get out and vote and to vote for people who aren’t like you and to vote for someone who isn’t you and it’s like, the black radicals i know are not voting for biden! they just aren’t. they do not see the electoral system or the fucking presidency as the thing that’s going to help & protect their communities. so instead they’re organizing on the ground, they’re distributing food & funds & housing comrades & fighting the police & helping elders shop and pick up medicine & making sure kids have internet access so they can go to school and that is what people are doing on the ground. they aren’t all up on instagram or tumblr sharing voting memes & telling people to hold their nose & “just vote for biden he’s the best choice we have” because they understand that for their communities, that’s not what liberation looks like. that’s y’all doing that goofy social media shit.
political power lies with the people always. the people collectively will prove whether or not the biden electoral strategy (of appealing to older, conservative/moderate, white voters in the midwest instead of young voters, poor voters, and voters of color all over the country, but i digress) is successful. whether or not his strategy is successful, the responsibility for the outcome of this election lies SOLELY with the biden campaign, capitalism, voter suppression, white supremacy, and our undemocratic election system — NOT the individual voters. know your enemy & know which system you need to fight. hint: it’s not apathetic or disengaged voters.
vote for whoever you want to vote for. don’t vote for trump, obviously, he’s a fascist do not vote for him. but for people who are not fascists or white supremacists, just try to understand what you’re doing and your position in the world & in this political system & act accordingly. not voting is not an excuse to do nothing; if you are choosing not to engage in electoral politics the expectation is you should be working twice as hard to make sustained impacts and improvements in your community. and if you ARE choosing to engage in electoral politics, the expectation is you should be working twice as hard to make sustained impacts and improvements in your community.
if what you think the liberation fight is is making sure you turn out at the ballot box on november 3rd, if that’s how you think you are being the most helpful, it isn’t and you’re not. you’re doing something, sure, and it’s not bad. like i did this, this was my job for a year, my job was to register voters and get young people to vote. i don’t have that job any more because i don’t believe that’s the solution. i just don’t believe it’s the solution. i don’t believe we should be talking about this upcoming election like it’s a solution, because it’s really just another problem we’re going to have to face and tackle, and we can’t talk about this election like anything is going to be solved if joe biden is president instead of trump because it’s not, and it won’t be, and these people are all our enemies, and we have to treat them like they are. that’s not to say don’t vote for them, if you understand all that & that is the decision you come to! just know what you’re voting for, and know what it means.
whatever, i’m not gonna keep going on this, rant over forever just had to spit that out somewhere and if i put that shit on my Facebook i would get unfriended by every white lib i went to high school with so fucking quick…

The arguments over whether or not voting is good/useful on my dash are so pointless like. This isn’t a new debate lmafo.
Like the way I see it... both the choice to vote and to not vote are justified. Some marginalized people don’t wanna vote Kamala/Joe (or for almost anyone for that matter) because they know voting (D) will not change anything for them; they know the liberal panic over Trump will end while things actually stay almost the same. It won’t give back their land or sovereignty, or end deportations and ICE camps, or end drone strikes, or end police shootings, or provide healthcare, or much of anything else. They’re done playing “blue no matter who” games with people who don’t deserve their vote.
Then some other marginalized people want to vote blue because even though they know the status quo will stay pretty much the same, at least having a democrat will possibly make a difference on one or two issues... a difference that in the grand scheme of things is almost nothing, but the impact on their individual lives could be huge. Just a tiny budge to the left on one issue could be life or death for some people. JUST saving DACA, or Obamacare, or other supreme court issues could mean a lot for some people.
But I guess the way I see it, whether people vote or not, if democrats do poorly this election they are 100% to blame for their own failure and you can NOT continue to blame leftist critics of the democratic establishment or critics of voting. Blaming individuals for their choice to not vote, or to vote third party/write in, will not get you anywhere and in fact just alienates these non-voters even more.
Liberals can’t continue to fight harder to screw over Bernie Sanders and other progressive candidates than they fight against republicans, they can’t continue insulting the intelligence and judgement of almost any voters left of Bush, they can’t go on TV saying they want to LOCK UP anarchists or telling critics “fine don’t vote for me then,” they can’t keep nominating crusty unlikable moderates with poor records and a past of scandals and/or abuse accusations, they can’t keep screaming BLUE NO MATTER WHAT, YOU VOTE FOR THESE SHITHEADS NOW OR ELSE YOU’RE A TERRIBLE PERSON... and expect it not to backfire and create an incredibly hopeless, offended and alienated voter base.
The extremely weak platform consisting of nothing but “idk not Trump tho” that Democrats have been running since 2016 is their own fucking downfall, and crying on tumblr and twitter because some people are fed up and not gonna vote for murderers and rapists is never going to change a god damn thing.

So I know there’s a flaw with this analogy! But let’s be real, it’s a flaw with the analogy, not sentiment.
One might say “Well they both going away from where I want to go! I’d rather not get on either!” The problem is the country as a whole is getting on one of these busses. Whether you vote on one or the other, you end up on the bus that wins the vote. So, if you’re in Nebraska hoping to go Oregon, vote for the bus that’s heading to Iowa intead of the bus that’s headed to Florida.
Would a bus at least headed to Wyoming or Nevada be better? Obviously, but right now there’s only busses to Iowa and Florida. Does that suck? Abso-fucking-lutely! But unless you can work with people to create some other option, not voting is the equivalent of saying “I’m fine with either of those.” Not voting is the equivalent of saying “I have no preference between these destinations.” Giving up your vote will not be felt as a protest by anyone.
Do I like Joe Biden? No. Do I like Kamala Harris? Absolutely not. Do I think voting for them will at least delay this country’s descent into fascism? Absolutely, compared to how fast Trump is heading that way. Would I prefer other candidates? Yeah, Joe was down pretty far down the list, and Kamala only pulls that farther down. Do I have any reasonable way to get another candidate into office? No, I certainly don’t have the money or other means to make such a thing happen. So I’ll continue protesting, and I will continue pushing things how I can, but I’m also still gonna vote for Biden because that has the best chance of making sure I and my loved ones don’t end up dead before the election after this because I let the fascism train get chosen. For one, it really is that simple.

20 questions [12/20]
characters: peter/gamora, guardians-centric
fandom: avengers academy/marvel cinematic universe
summary: wasp has a new competition in store for the students of avengers academy, and there’s money involved. so obviously, peter and gamora have to pretend to be a couple in order to win. wait, what?
chapter preview: janet announces two new school-wide events, gamora tries to change her strategy when it comes to dealing with her feelings, and yondu is the captain of this ship, and no, I'm not talking about the eclector.
word count: 5301 | total word count: 118k
a/n: listen, yondu being alive and well in this au of mine might be one of my favourite parts about writing it.
ao3 | previously | next | masterpost
So maybe, just maybe, it was a little narcissistic for Peter to think this way, but it seemed as if the entirety of the Academy was breathing a little easier once he and Gamora had made up, and were successfully faking it again. They held hands wherever they walked (so long as the others weren’t with them - Rocket had taken to making kissing noises whenever they stood a little too close together), kissed whenever they had to part ways for classes, and told stories about their “dates” to anyone who would listen.
Except this time, unlike their “origin story”, as Peter had called it, the “dates” were nearly one hundred percent truth. They talked about the rude SHIELD agent, the date in Shakespeare Park, the musical, the museum - they even mentioned dancing in the hotel room, in which Gamora rolled her eyes in pretend fond annoyance, while Peter winked at their enraptured audience. “Can always count on a romantic song to set the mood,” he had said cheerfully. Hey, if they weren’t going to talk about how that night had ended in private, they could at least play it up in public.
On Friday afternoon, after classes were over and everyone had dispersed out onto the quad, Janet was once again poised to make announcements, this time sitting atop the bulletin board, megaphone in hand. “Attention, Academy students!” she hollered, as if she wasn’t already amplifying her voice enough. “Just a reminder that voting ends in two weeks, so get your ballots in. We need more volunteers for ballot counters, sign-ups are available at Avengers Hall. Also, we have two new super exciting events ready to share with you guys!”
“Now what,” Rocket groaned. “She ain’t gonna break out a confetti gun, is she?”
“Ten units it’ll be a fog machine instead,” Yondu said.
“Deal. Shake on it.”
“As a school of heroes, we’re always working towards saving the day. I mean, that’s our number one goal here, right?” The crowd cheered ecstatically. “But I think there’s one more thing that we can do to close out this school year as a way of giving back - a fundraiser festival!” Janet kicked her legs up and down in excitement. “There’s so much talent at this school that doesn’t always get celebrated the way that our hero-ing skills do. So, you can either sign up to present a talent, or, volunteer to run a booth! There will be a bake sale, a dunk tank, a temporary tattoo artist, and maybe we can get a kissing booth set up?” She winked, causing giggles to ripple through the crowd. Director Fury was shaking his head nearby, arms folded in defiance. This was what he got for running a superhero school full of teens and young adults.
“I am Groot?”
“Kissin’ you’s like kissin’ a baby, Groot. Don’t think anyone here’s running for president anytime soon, ‘cept maybe Cap.”
“I have also finally gotten Director Fury to agree to host a prom this year! Tickets are on sale now at the Avengers Hall, and ticket sales, plus all our fundraising money, will go towards various charities around the world and Damage Control right here in New York.” Janet beamed. “The theme for this year’s prom will be…”
“Ten units it’s Under the Sea.”
“I bet ten it’ll be A Night to Remember.”
“...Masquerade Madness!” Janet squealed. Yondu and Rocket muttered “damn!” under their breaths in sync. “Everyone will be wearing a mask - bonus points if it looks like your actual superhero mask. But don’t actually wear your superhero mask, that’s lazy and I’ll be mad.” The students exchanged dubious looks - they didn’t like Janet when she was angry. “Anyways, that’s all! Thank you, lovelies!”
As the crowd began to disperse, chattering excitedly to their friends about what they were going to do for the fundraiser or who they wanted to go to prom with, Peter stepped closer to Gamora, hands moving to settle on her waist. She shivered at the touch as he bent towards her ear, kissing the side of her head before whispering, “I have an idea. Follow my lead.”
“I would if I knew what your idea was,” she muttered back, though he ignored her in favour of walking around her so he was facing her front. Her eyes widened in alarm as he got down on one knee, arms spread wide.
“Gamora,” he said loudly, and what was that odd not-British accent he was doing? Out of the corner of her eye, she could already see other students forming a circle around them, whispering to each other as they watched their spectacle. Janet had flown over, phone in hand, eyes the size of saucers. Kamala was bouncing up and down nearby, tweeting with reckless abandon and trying not to squeal too loudly. “My incredible, beautiful, deadly, powerful, deadly powerful - ”
“Quill,” she huffed, though she tried and failed to hide her smile behind her hands.
“ - will you go to prom with me?” Peter finished, looking so wonderfully earnest she could feel her grin spreading even wider. It was as if he was really hoping she would say yes, but that there would be a chance she would say no, and really, why would she say no?
“I thought it was a given, considering you’re my boyfriend,” Gamora said, and wow, she did not say that word out loud enough, it felt too foreign on her tongue, “but yes, of course I will.”
A cheer went through the crowd, firmly solidifying Peter’s somewhat arrogant belief that his relationship with Gamora had become a beloved part of the school’s social environment. As he got to his feet, his usual cocky grin on his face, he wondered how else he could possibly play up the moment. Gamora seemed to have the same idea, launching herself in his arms with surprising force, burying her face in his neck. “Smart,” she murmured, breath hot against his ear. “Our classmates will definitely know we have made up by now.” She pulled away, but not before taking both of his hands in hers, squeezing gently.
“And we continue to be the cutest couple in school,” Peter replied softly, smiling. “Let’s go get our tickets.”
“Wait! I have a confetti gun I want to use on you guys! Come back!”
“HA! Pay up, blue boy.”
“Ain’t never betting on nothin’ with you again, rat.”
______
Dinner that night on the Milano was a much more raucous affair than that of the previous three nights, now that Peter was back with his team. Everyone’s spirits were lifted, relieved that their leaders were once again back in a good place. Peter even offered to help Mantis and Drax cook (“You have burned water, Quill, get out”), but instead was relegated to setting the table.
“Man, I missed you guys,” Peter sighed happily. “The whole ‘broody loner’ schtick really doesn’t work for me.”
“I don’t understand none of the crap that came outta your mouth just now,” Yondu said, slapping him on the back. “But we missed you too, boy. Twig got all weepy, it was awful.”
“I am Groot,” he protested, though he jumped up and down, arms outstretched, for Peter to scoop him up.
“I missed you the most,” Peter told him, resulting in a tiny wooden smile so cute that even Nebula, who was otherwise sulking in a corner, had to fight the urge to grin. “But hey, while I was away, I watched a couple movies with songs you might like. I’ll play ‘em for you sometime.” Groot nodded eagerly, patting his small hand against Peter’s cheek before jumping back down again onto the kitchen counter.
“You done cryin’ about your own problems yet?” Rocket entered the room, lugging what looked like a giant detonation device behind him. “Found this mysterious piece of crap dumped outside. Probably Stark’s. Has all the parts we need to get the Milano finally back up and runnin’. This your doing, Quill?”
“No, but he’s been sneaking stuff in for us, as far as I can tell,” Peter replied. “It’s a good thing, right? You don’t have to acknowledge he helped, and we can finally get my baby working again.”
“Your insistence on referring to the Milano as a child is disturbing.” Gamora had walked into the room and swatted Peter’s arm playfully in a surprising display of casual affection, a stoicism in her eyes that didn’t match the gentle smile on her face.
“Not a child, my child.”
“Do you people ever talk about anything of significance?” Nebula’s sigh was almost impressive as Director Fury’s. “Gamora and I have decided to kill the Black Order. We apparently require your assistance.”
“Oh, hell,” Yondu groaned, throwing himself down on the couch. “Can’t we focus on one thing at a time, girl? Got enough on our plate as it is.”
“Your failure to perform well at school has nothing to do with the rest of us,” Nebula shot back. “Try harder.”
“Nebula.” Gamora clicked her tongue at her sister disapprovingly. “Let’s not turn this into a fight for once, okay?”
“That’s hypocritical, considering you and Quill having a lover’s spat nearly made this whole team fall apart in a matter of days.”
“We had a misunderstanding, it’s fine,” Peter said defensively. “Mantis, Drax, is dinner ready yet?”
By the time everyone had finally sat down to eat, Peter was reminded of how exhausting it was to keep up with his ridiculous team of misfits, but damn if he wouldn’t trade them in for all the units in the world (alright, maybe Nebula, but she was slowly growing on him, too. She was important to Gamora, so by extension, she was important to him as well).
“I spoke with Janet earlier today, Mantis said after a few thankfully silent minutes of everyone stuffing their faces. “She said she didn’t want to give away the current voting results, but that you and Gamora seem to be in second place at the moment.”
“Second? Who’s in front of us?” Peter exclaimed, food nearly spilling out of his mouth as he spoke.
“Captain America and Agent Carter, of course,” Mantis replied with a shrug. “Even students who do not care much about love voted for them because it is a love that spans decades.”
“Gamora and I have literally seen each other almost die, like, ten times each. Isn’t that romantic?” Peter was flailing again, waving his fork around haphazardly. Gamora moved to gently push his hands down before he could knock over everyone’s cups in the process.
“The almost dying isn’t romantic, Quill, the ‘saving each other’s lives’ part? Maybe,” she said dryly, letting her hand linger for an extra moment before moving away.
“We could stage a - ”
“No, no, boy, you are not riskin’ your hide just to win sympathy points from those fools,” Yondu said fiercely, slamming a fist down on the table, causing the dishes to rattle. “You’ve had some stupid ideas in your life, but that might be one of your worst yet.”
Sulking, Peter slumped back in his chair, throwing down his fork in defeat. “We gotta give it one last boost. Two weeks, and voting is over. It doesn’t even matter what we do afterwards, but something’s gotta be done now.”
“What happened to the other categories? You are all acting as if this is the only one that matters,” Nebula said with a smirk. “Have we all become so invested in this lie that we’ve forgotten about winning ‘Best Team’?”
“You technically are not part of the team,” Drax reminded her. “Frankly, I’m unsure if it will ever happen for you.” Nebula sneered in response. Gamora stomped on Drax’s foot from the other side of the table, shooting him a warning glare. He let out a howl of pain.
Mantis’s hands shot out to clasp at both Gamora and Drax’s wrists, quick to subdue them before it could escalate. “Actually, Janet says we will probably win that one,” she said, brightening. “The Avengers fight too much, the Defenders are scary to a lot of the newer students, and the other teams are not as prominent in popularity. Peter is especially recognizable to the general public. There are many girls who like to post on social media about him.” Peter could see Gamora’s nose wrinkle in disapproval, so he reached to gently pat her on the leg under the table, hoping no one else could see.
“Awesome, so that’s fifty thousand units in the bag. No, Drax, there’s no physical bag,” Peter interrupted himself as Drax opened his mouth. “And as much as I want to win Most Attractive Team...because that’s apparently a thing, the Avengers look like freaking models. And we have a raccoon.”
“I’M NOT A - ”
“I am Groot.”
“Yeah, yeah, okay, that’s fair.”
“As always, I’ve gained nothing out of this.” Nebula stood to leave with her plate and cutlery, half of her food still left over. Her dramatic exit was ruined by getting stuck behind Drax’s chair on her way out. They all watched in awkward silence as Drax scraped his chair along the metal floor to allow Nebula to side-step with her back against the wall, an increasingly murderous scowl forming on her face.
“We should figure out a plan of attack against the Black Order or she might attempt to leave again,” Gamora muttered to Peter.
“You think we can wait until after the voting’s done?”
After dinner was over, Gamora went to go give Groot a bath (it was usually Drax’s chore, though he’d been protesting against it ever since Groot had been sick that one time and puked on him in the shower), Rocket disappeared to start taking apart the device Stark had “donated”, and Drax followed him to “help” (more like observe and criticize despite knowing nothing about engineering compared to Rocket), leaving Yondu and Peter to take care of the dishes.
“I think I finally figured Nebula out,” Peter said as he dumped a generous amount of dish soap into the sink. “She doesn’t make dramatic exits from dinner because she’s mad or irritated, she does it to get out of dish-washing duty.”
Yondu started opening all the cabinets in search for a clean washcloth. “And y’all say I’m irresponsible.”
“You literally haven’t done homework in like, three months, man,” Peter pointed out. “You’re smarter than this, Yondu.”
“Don’t lecture me about smarts,” Yondu grumbled, finally locating one behind a stack of suspiciously foggy-looking shot glasses. “I know what I’m good for, and it ain’t school.”
“Doesn’t mean you can’t try,” Peter said. He began scraping the food scraps off the plates into their composter. It seemed slightly clogged, but he couldn’t tell if it was because it was a terribly cheap machine or if Rocket had been messing with it for parts.
“I’m done talkin’ about this, but you know what I wanna know more ‘bout? You and Gamora,” Yondu said, straightening up with a smug grin. “What happened? Y’fought for like, five days straight. That’s a record for you two.”
“We both said stuff we regret, no need to share the details,” Peter mumbled. “She might’ve also made it pretty clear she doesn’t actually want to date me, and I guess it just made me kinda sad, but, y’know, I’ll get over it.”
“You asked?” Yondu’s eyes widened. That seemed like an unlikely turn of events. Peter was overconfident at times - well, most of the time - and might’ve overdone it, whatever it was he had done, but Gamora didn’t seem like she would turn him down. She was starting to look just as gooey-eyed around Peter as he did around her. Not that Yondu was paying attention, of course.
“No, but she’s weirdly trying to set me up with girls I barely know,” Peter huffed, throwing the plates into the sink a little more aggressively than he needed to. “You don’t do that with a guy you want to date, therefore, she doesn’t wanna date me.”
“You do if you think it’ll make ‘em happy,” Yondu said, frowning. “If you love someone, you do whatever it takes to make ‘em happy. Don’t you know anything about love?”
“Come on, Yondu,” Peter sighed. “We grew up together. You know that ‘love’ wasn’t ever really a part of my relationships, if you could call ‘em that. Gamora’s...the closest I’ve ever had.”
“Now, now, Quill. You put on a big show, make them girls think you’re smooth,” Yondu said, pacing around Peter. Oh no, Peter thought, it’s Yondu’s Dramatic Speech Time™. “You charm ‘em, kiss a fair bunch, sleep with a couple ‘cause you think it makes you happy. And it does, for a while. But then, you ditch the Ravagers, try to start over, fresh, at the Cosmic Conservatory, and you see a girl that spins you on your head.”
“The pacing really isn’t necessary,” Peter interrupted, but Yondu just continued as if he hadn’t heard him.
“It’s not just that she’s pretty - and she is - it’s that she’s clever, she’s resilient, she’s strong, she’s unlike all the girls you been after your whole life. You flirt with her, but it don’t work ‘cause she’s smarter than that. You don’t wanna give up because she’s somehow different. But then this whole orb business, and Ronan, and you go back and forth, saving each other’s lives, and next thing y’know, you’re runnin’ a team together, living on a ship together, goin’ to school together. She’s everywhere, and she’s almost too important, so you play house instead.”
“Yondu - ”
“You’ve gotten too comfortable in pretendin’, boy,” Yondu said, brandishing a wet spoon at him. Peter winced as it made an incredibly disgusting squelching sound. “You gonna let a good thing like that slip away ‘cause you think she don’t feel the same? Here’s an idea - ask her.” He stood even taller, a satisfied look crossing his face. “I’ll only believe ya if she actually says no.”
Peter blinked at him in disbelief. “Do you know how dramatic you look when you do that? No, don’t answer that, you definitely do.” He sighed, turning back to the sink so he could scrub at the last plate instead of looking at Yondu’s smug expression. “Look, I’ve only just sort of acknowledged that I have feelings for her, okay? And this isn’t the first time - for some stupid reason, I - you know what, I’m not telling you about that. But now, I know for sure, that I like her, a lot, and I’m not ruining a good thing by telling her.”
Yondu snorted. “That’s what all those idiots in those films a’yours say. What’re you waitin’ for, boy, some big, life-changing moment?”
“No,” Peter snapped. “I’m waiting for proof that she feels the same. You think I like getting hurt?”
“So all them girls you flirted with before, you knew it was a sure thing? Never thought you’d get turned down?” Yondu leaned against the counter. “I don’t believe that.”
“Getting turned down for a date or a casual hookup is one thing,” Peter said, setting the last dish down, staring at it intensely like it had personally offended him. “Being rejected when you tell someone how much you like them? When they’re one of the most important people in your life? A whole ‘nother ballgame.”
“So you’re sensitive,” Yondu shrugged. “Your strength and your weakness, if y’ask me. Love, compassion, that’s your real power, ain’t it? You care so much about people you don’t even know. I’m just sayin’, a girl like Gamora, she’s a toughie, but she’s got some baggage. Insecurities, like everyone else. She might need you to spell it out for her before she shows her hand at all.”
He walked away with a knowing smile and wink, leaving Peter feeling thoroughly chastised. Yondu was only older than Peter by a year or two, so why did he feel like just got lectured by a father he didn’t have? He shivered a little at the thought of what his actual father had been like - a “complete and utter jackass”, to quote Yondu’s apt description of him. The way he’d tried to get between Peter and the other Guardians, the way he’d taunted him about his mother. Peter winced when he remembered how Ego had compared his relationship with Gamora to be like his own relationship with Meredith. Never, Peter thought fiercely.
Left alone with his thoughts for a few minutes as he mindlessly rearranged the kitchen cupboards (who thought it was a good idea to put preserved eyeballs next to the jam? Why did they have preserved eyeballs, and who was eating jam?), a voice pulled him back to reality. “What’re you doing?” Peter jumped, turning to see Gamora standing there, leaning against the wall, wearing one of his hoodies, her hair slightly damp at the ends. He raised an eyebrow. “Groot was fussy and splashed me, don’t look at me like that,” she chuckled. “Why are you moving everything around? Do you not have homework?”
“I do, which is why I’m doing this instead,” he lied smoothly, shutting the cupboard door. “You staying here tonight?”
“Are you?” She stepped closer, blinking up at him. “It’s the last Friday before I finally get back to performing at Club Galaxy. I thought we could do something.” Peter was pretty sure his brain short-circuited when she bit her bottom lip, an impish grin forming on her face.
“You, uh, have something in mind?” Peter was very confused. He couldn’t be sure, considering he’d never seen her do it before, but was she flirting with him? He’d been surprised enough yesterday when Gamora had ended up sleeping in his bed, but now her tone suggested she wanted a continuation. Before his brain could take him to a different line of thinking, he weakly suggested, “Another movie, maybe?”
Which is how he found himself, once again, in his (other) bed with Gamora pressed against his side, showing her -
“Dirty Dancing?” she said. “You’re not even trying to pretend anymore, are you?”
“Why’re you wearing my jacket?” Peter blurted before he could stop himself. He wasn’t sure why the thought to ask had suddenly registered in his head, as if she hadn’t been wearing it for the past twenty minutes already. She looked so at home in his clothes that he could feel all those feelings bubbling up again in his stomach, both something oddly warm and comforting, and something that was urging him to do something he’d regret.
“Janet is having some girls’ tea party - I don’t even know why - and I thought that showing up wearing what is clearly my boyfriend’s jacket would help,” Gamora said. She didn’t even look convinced of her own words - as valid as her point may be, it explained nothing about why she was wearing it now. Still, he decided not to comment as he mulled over what Yondu said. She was, despite her warrior’s exterior, still a young woman with sensitivities. He’d seen it in the discomfort on her face when he’d confronted her about what she said about him, how words could hurt her more than any weapon ever would. It wouldn’t do him any favours to point out the flaws in her logic.
He hummed, laying his head down on the pillow, wondering vaguely if she was planning on staying in his bed tonight as well. Probably not, considering her room was just next door, but it was a nice thought. Unlike Gamora, Peter had shared a bed with people before. Not always for sexual reasons, but with his mom when he’d had a nightmare, or even with Yondu when the Eclector was particularly overcrowded (Yondu didn’t like to talk about it). There was something about waking up to see her next to him that made him feel safe. And maybe, for a moment, he could pretend it was a result of something real. He stole a glance at her, watching as her dark eyes fixated on the screen, taking in Baby and Johnny’s dance practice. “Maybe we should do the lift at prom,” Peter said, half-jokingly.
“I hope you’re not expecting that,” Gamora said, pointing as Jennifer Grey crawled across the floor. He momentarily got distracted by the mental image that her idea had provided him.
“That would be really difficult to do in a prom dress,” he chuckled. “Hey, so do you really want to go to prom?”
“It would be odd if we didn’t,” she replied.
“That’s not what I’m asking,” Peter said softly. “Not for the con. For you.”
“I like experiencing the things I missed out on,” Gamora said thoughtfully, finally turning back to look at him. “I guess it makes me feel like I've become a part of something meaningful, even if it is just a school dance.”
“Then I'm glad to be a part of it,” he declared. “Now, after this movie is over, you have to tell me whether you've had the time of your life…”
______
The weekend passed by with little issue, all things considered. After the turmoil the team had gone through in the past month, they were grateful for the mundane, monotonous crawl of a lazy weekend. Peter was still a little rattled by Yondu’s speech, but he knew it came from a place of caring, as much as Yondu would deny it.
Peter and Rocket even managed to fix the Milano and finally get her up and running once more. True to his word, Peter started off by doing his repairs in a T-shirt, stripped down to a muscle tank, and eventually decided to go shirtless for the last couple hours in the height of the afternoon sun, sweat dripping down his forehead. He was pretty sure there was some irony in being cat-called by Tigra and Black Cat as they passed by the loading bay.
“Is this display necessary?” Gamora sighed when she had dropped by after spending most of her day with Janet and the other girls. “It’s not that hot.” He noticed she was still wearing his hoodie, now fully unzipped over her usual “uniform” of a blank tank top and leather leggings. It was a good look on her.
“You might be used to wearing all-leather outfits in the peak of summer, but I’m not,” Peter replied with a smirk. “I thought you’d enjoy the view, honey.”
“Yes, I don’t know why you’re complaining, Gamora, unless you want to keep him all to yourself,” Felicia purred. “You could cut diamonds on his stomach. I should try that sometime.”
“Don’t talk about him like that, his ego is already the size of his ship,” Gamora said, frowning, though she moved closer so she could kiss him. If her hands lingered on Peter’s bare torso for a little while longer than they needed to, well, that was her business.
Sunday was when the Guardians caught up on homework, albeit separately. Yondu also took the opportunity to chase the others down and chastise them about slacking. “You are telling us not to slack?” Nebula said, eyes narrowed. “That is a first.”
“Not on homework, girl. Your sister and Quill,” Yondu said, causing her to groan.
“Still on about that, are we? You seem oddly invested,” Rocket commented slyly. “What’s going on there, Yondu?”
“You really wanna know?” Yondu snapped.
“Yeah, actually, I do.” Rocket stood to his full height (three feet tall, so hardly intimidating, but to his credit, he had one of his signature BFGs by his side). “I wanna know why you care so d’ast much.”
“Then I’ll tell you.” Yondu settled into the armchair, glancing around to make sure Peter and Gamora were nowhere nearby before starting. “I might not’ve been captain yet, but when I was a kid Ravager, we had a job to go pick up some skinny kid off Terra. Weren’t allowed to ask questions about why or what we were doin’ with him. I watched ‘em big boys haul in that snot-nosed kid, who wouldn’t stop cryin’ about his mama. I was one of the only kids on the Eclector, so they told me to shut him up by any means possible. I didn’t wanna hit him or nothing, he was probably 60 pounds soaking wet. So, I asked him if he knew why he was here, what happened to his mama. Next thing I know, kid’s rattlin’ off about his music, all the shit he’s got in his backpack that she bought him, stuff like that.”
Mantis leaned forward, eyes wide, enraptured. “And then what happened?”
“One of the men - not the cap’n, just one of them commanders - came in and yelled at me for makin’ it worse. I say, ‘kid’s scared, he thinks we’re gonna sell him into slavery. We ain’t doing that, are we?’. The guy decks me across the face - me, also just a kid.” Yondu sighed slowly. “Then Quill, ‘cause he’s a dumbass, starts hittin’ the guy - who’s prob’ly 300 pounds on an off day - kickin’ him in the shins, hollerin’, saying ‘leave my friend alone, he ain’t done nothing’. We been talking for an hour tops, and he already thinks we’re friends.”
“That sounds very much like Quill,” Drax said, smiling fondly. “A man of good intention and terrible execution.”
“The guy don’t leave ‘til Quill’s got another black eye and a couple bruised ribs, but he’s smilin’ like he won a million units, ‘cause he’s decided that I’m stuck with him,” Yondu continued. “All cheery-like, tells me his face hurts, like I can’t tell. Won’t shut up about nothing ever since. And we get older, we start talkin’ about girls we like. Go out on jobs, see pretty girls, we flirt with ‘em, it can’t hurt. And I’ll admit, Quill’s more successful ‘cause he’s got that something special, y’know, but then he ditches the Ravagers for the Cosmic Conservatory. When I finally see him again, he’s talking about some girl with a sword who kicked his ass. And yeah, he mentions how pretty she is, but it’s everythin’ else that makes me realise there’s more to her than that. In some ways, feels like the way he used to talk about his mama - with love, with respect. He got it bad.”
“You really trying to say Quill’s had a crush on her since the beginning?” Rocket said, skeptical. “I mean, yeah, now he’s pretty obvious about it, but what about before when we were fighting Ronan? He was all business once we got down to it.”
“Gotta have your priorities straight, boy,” Yondu said, wagging a finger at him. “No time for nookie-nookie when there’s a maniac on the loose. Anyways, I been listening to Quill yammer on about nothin’ for years, and all a’sudden, he’s reluctant to talk. Something’s changed - it’s for real this time. For the first time, he’s nervous about losing. So we gotta help him out, push ‘em both in the right direction.”
The group fell silent for a moment, considering. “I have been helping,” Mantis piped up. “They are both too stubborn to admit it, but I can tell they both want it to be real.”
“Admittedly, I’ve not really done my part,” Drax murmured, head bowed as if he were ashamed. “But neither of them listen to me as much as you or Yondu.”
“I am Groot?” He blinked up at them slowly, hopeful.  Rocket nodded approvingly.
“That’s actually not a bad idea, Groot,” he said. “Groot thinks he can use the ‘child’ angle to his advantage. Y’know, bring out the parenting instincts.”
“That’s good, twig,” Yondu said, smiling. “So, we all clear now? Get ‘em together so Quill can get back to normal. This weird, evasive crap? Ain’t like him.”
“If it will get you to shut up about it already,” Nebula muttered.
a/n: fluffy ridiculous OTT team dynamics are everything. hope y'all found this chapter to be a breather after the ridiculousness of the last one. next chapter's a fun one - the team finally take on a new job now that the milano's up and running, which may or may not make our lovely "couple" question whether they're doing this for the money anymore. also, black cat and tigra for those of you who don't know who was hitting on peter in that end bit there.
