“My name is Nour Saqer, for the name remains when all is lost. I turned 22 years old last November. Yes. My youthful time was wasted on horrible days. Yes. Those days still continue.
My name is Nour Saqer. And I am 22 years old. I am a fifth-year dental student at Al-Azhar University of Gaza. I am an aspiring student. I am eager and passionate about my studies. Until the last minute, I was allowed to stay at my house on Oct. 7th. 2023 I was still working on a scientific research proposal that was supposed to be published by me and my teammates of young researchers late in November, that year.
Tumblr media
This picture of me was taken late 2022 during an international dental conference held in campus.
During my college years alone. Me and my family have had to forcefully evacuate, and run out of our house four times. In 2019, 2021, 2022, and finally in 2023. Each time was in fear of the same threat; meeting our deaths under rubble. My name is Nour Saqer. And I have always been a Gazan. Each of those past times. If we were fortunate enough, we would discover that our home was in repairable damage. There would be a roof over our heads still. We were still fortunate. We still had luck.
But ever since October 7th. I haven't returned home. We were among the first families to evacuate Al-Rimal neighborhood from the very first day of this genocide, we had to turn our backs to it and expect no return. Two floors of my family house, along with my father's store, and only source of income, have been severely destructed due to neighboring missiles. And my university buildings were heavily exploded. All forms of life have been reaped from my city. My hometown.
Tumblr media
This is what's left of our campus. I was supposed to have my graduation ceremony here.
My name is Nour Saqer. And I had an enthusiastic heart. And an energetic body. I played sports and walked down every street until I couldn't. I loved my family and friends dearly. I wrote poems about them. I spent time loving them and cherishing their presence. I loved life with all its little things. With all its unattainable things. I loved the grass and the tall buildings. And I loved all people. I loved my people. All their faces. All their talents. All their hidden lives. All we shared. Until we didn't. Everything I have ever loved I lost.
Tumblr media
This picture of me was taken during a happy moment on the roof of our house.
This is all that is left of that picture now.
I am currently sheltered in Rafah with my family of 7. Sharing a place with 30 other homeless people. By the end of Ramadan, me and my family would have to evacuate and seek shelter for yet the 8th time due to housing problems. I am so tired of not having any sense of stability. Nothing to guarantee. Nothing to call my own. Every passing minute the situation in Rafah gets worse. Every passing minute I am losing loved ones and relatives. Every passing minute costs me my sanity. Costs me health. Costs me my basic rights to simply live.
I have nothing left to lose or pay the price with except for my life.
I don’t know how to retell my life story in limited words, how to make the most ordinary moments sound precious. How do I equate my value to someone deserving a life of safety? How do I shape myself as someone worth saving?
I have been interviewing myself for days. All my stories are choking me. All my grief is piling up and muting me. I keep trying to find a way to present the best of myself. To make myself someone you'd want to look at. Listen to. And even more,
Help.
I am finally placing both hope and faith in your helpful hands. I am asking you. Please put an end to this continuing tragedy. And help me get to safety. Before it's too late.
It should be in your knowledge that:
It costs $5,000 per person to get out of Rafah through the Boarder Crossing to Egypt. The rest of the donations will be to secure my tution money for the fifth and final year of dental school.
Thank you.”

The worst mass shooting of the year, and it’s barely a blip in the national news coverage. Americans have become so desensitized to this kind of tragedy that the loss of 18 lives - 13 more injured, 8 still fighting for their lives in intensive care - doesn’t even make national noise anymore. This man is still out there - considered armed and dangerous, going on day 3 of this manhunt - and still, just another Friday in America to most people. There are people who aren’t even aware this happened!
This is my community. We are grieving. This has affected us across the state - cities and towns in lockdown, schools are closed, businesses are closed. It’s a beautiful warm fall day, the weekend before Halloween, and my state is a ghost town. Other than tourists, everyone is home. All events, sports and celebrations and parties, have been cancelled.
Maine has never faced a tragedy like this before. And because of that, I think we feel this hurt so much deeper and personally than the rest of the nation. You may have seen Maine described as “a small big state” and it’s so true. We’re spread out geographically but the sense of community and loyalty we have for our neighbors - 3 mins, 30 mins, 3 hours away - is unmatched. This is hitting our community so hard because we haven’t been desensitized to this sort of violence here.
I don’t want the victims to be just another number lost in the conversation. These were my neighbors, people in my direct social circles - friends and family of the people in my life. Right now, we only know a few of the names. But these people deserve to be remembered, their loss is being felt across the state.
Joey Walker was the manager of the bar that was hit. He grabbed a butchers knife to try to stop the shooter. He died trying to save lives. On Wednesday night, his father, city councilor Leroy Walker, told the local news he knew in his heart his son had been murdered that night. He asks that people keep sharing Joey’s story, “to keep him alive”.
Bob Violette led a youth bowling league at Just-in-Time. He died protecting the children he taught, standing between them and the shooter.
Payton Brewer-Roses loved Superman; he had an extensive Man of Steel tattoo. We would’ve been friends. He was a father to a beautiful two-year-old, who now has to grow up without her loving, funny, caring father.
Trisha Asselin loved bowling and golf and worked at both Just-In-Time and the local golf course. She raised thousands for breast cancer research in her lifetime. She died trying to call 911.
Joshua Seal was a comforting face to so many during the worst of the pandemic. He worked as a sign language interpreter, and made it his life’s mission to end the solitude and isolation of many in the Deaf community. He was there for a Deaf cornhole league - where know at least one other Deaf victim, Bryan MacFarlane, was also attending. Reports say they didn’t know what was happening because they couldn’t hear the shoots.
Aaron and Bill Young, a high school freshman and his father. Aaron loved bowling, had recently received recognition in the youth league.
These aren’t even half of the victims who were murdered on Wednesday night. Over and over again, you hear stories of how the victims put themselves in harms way to save others, because that’s the kind of community we have in Maine. We look out for each other, even if we don’t know you.
They should be alive right now.
Please don’t let them get lost in the news cycle. We can’t pretend this is normal or acceptable. Enough is enough. If the FBI can call Maine “the safest state in America” on Monday, and two days later the worst mass shooting of the year happens, it’s not a matter of IF it will happen to you and your loved ones, but WHEN.
We cannot continue to live like this.
Eighteen lives lost, and countless lives shattered by this night.
If you can, please donate to the GoFundMe for the victims and their families in Lewiston.

Hey, i love your stories about anime here with the male characters with an s/o. May I request one from Psycho pass? I like to hear about how the male cast would propose and marry life with s/o. So with Kogami, Ginoza, Teppei,Sho,Arata, Kagari, and Kazumichi(friend want to also know how would they be virgin s/o because they read Sugo one but feel free disregard it since this will long request).
Psycho Pass Boys + Marriage Headcanons
Kogami
Proposal – Nonchalant. Buys a ring and all but just keeps it around until one day he just…gives it to them. Doesn’t ask ‘do you want to get married?’ asks more along the lines of ‘let’s get married’. Buys something that is minimalist so that it won’t get in the way at work. Would actually be on board for tattoo wedding bands.
Married life – he’s a good husband. Or at least he tries to be. His focus will always be on work. Which leads him to get hyper focused and sometimes neglectful of other things, like his partner. He always tries to make up for it but it can be taxing on a relationship. Feels it’s important to share responsibilities of the house and chores.
Ginoza
Proposal – Goal is to be very traditional with it, but his plans often go awry. He has his mother’s ring from when she was still alive and would like to use that, if he can get it. It was a Nobuchika family tradition to use the previous matriarch’s ring, but many of his old family belongings were donated or destroyed when he became an Enforcer. He was only entitled to a limited selection of his personal belongings. If the ring isn’t available, he would buy a clean, elegant type of ring.
Married life – They would have to move into Ginoza’s place. Due to his anxiety and PTSD, he does not handle change well. Moving into his space would be the easiest, but he would make all the accommodations possible for his partner to be comfortable. Would not even consider marrying someone that Dime did not also love.
Teppei
Proposal – Very traditional. Gets down on one knee. Asks their father if that’s an option in their life. The works. Teppei plans to only do this once, so he wants it to be perfect this one & only time. Would buy a ring that it best suited for them but also something big. Not that he’s into flashy things, but he’s heard it needs to be a fair portion of a man’s salary to be appropriate.
Married life – Best husband honestly. Teppei is kind, compassionate, understanding, and supportive. He also believes in a fair work load structure for the house, but also picks up the load where he can. Deep down desperately wants children.
Sho
Proposal – Honestly it would be a miracle if he could even get around to it. Would likely try a bunch of times but just stammer over the words, or just straight up chicken out. Eventually would just create a cute hologram to just propose for him. Likes rings with unique stones in them. Not just diamonds. He feels that diamonds are cold and lifeless. He would prefer a ring with a little color.
Married life – Tries but he’s super bad at it. Not bad bad, but he has a lot of learning to do. Adjusting to another person and things outside of a digital world is hard for him. He makes the effort but is definitely not the easiest husband option.
Arata
Proposal – Wants to propose immediately once he gets the idea in his head, but Kei talks him out of it. Kei has to explain to him that marriage is a life long commitment and that he can’t just ‘take it back’ if he changes his mind. Arata insists that he knows & doesn’t want that, so Kei just lets him go. Maiko helps him pick out a ring because both he and Kei are useless at it.
Married life – He really does want to be a good husband and works really hard on it. He always tries to be happy and positive for his partner. Making sure that his work burdens don’t weigh on their relationship. He’s fine with doing housework but mostly sticks to vacuuming and washing dishes. His favorite part about being married is the cuddles. He really likes those.
Kagari
Proposal –Out of all the boys, Kagari is the one that least believes in the term ‘marriage’. He wants a long term, if not lifelong, partner. He just doesn’t believe that ‘marriage’ is the only way to have that. If it’s what they want he’ll go with it and propose. Also believes in colorful rings with a personality. Would honestly propose with a Ring Pop if it wouldn’t go bad.
Married life – Definitely can handle the cooking in the relationship, but little else. Kagari is a good listener though. So any problems that his partner has he’s always there to lend an ear. Keeps the place pretty tidy overall but it takes him a few reminders to put his clothes in the hamper or dishes in the sink. Buys them ‘couples games’ to play in the evening as an activity.

National Ice Cream Day
On National Ice Cream Day, which takes place on December 13, you probably won’t hear the ice cream truck, with its delightful tune, roll through your neighborhood. (There’s another National Ice Cream Day in July for that.) Your favorite ice cream shop may even be closed for the season! But it’s still a perfectly good reason to get a pint or three (who’s counting) of the good stuff to share with your friends and family.
National Ice Cream Day timeline
500 BC
Invention of Ice Cream
People of the Persian Empire started making ice cream. by pouring concentrate of grape juice over snow.
1846
Ice Cream Maker Patented
Nancy Johnson invents and patents the first hand-cranked ice cream maker.
1978
Ben & Jerry's
Ben took a $5 course on ice-cream making and opened the first Ben & Jerry's in a converted Burlington gas station.
2001
Dairy Dream
8.9% of the milk produced in the U.S. was used to make frozen dairy products.
National Ice Cream Day Activities
Try a new flavor: There are hundreds of flavors of ice cream beyond just chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. If you’re feeling zesty, find a parlor that offers lemon meringue, or even horseradish ice cream. Or, if seafood is more your thing, find one of the joints on the east coast that serve up lobster ice cream. If you don’t like it, at least you can say you tried.
Go old school: Before the commercial success of ice cream in America in the 1800s, ice cream was typically reserved as a special summertime treat. But now, thanks to simple and cheap at-home devices, you can make whatever flavor you want. All you need is eggs, milk, cream, sugar, and the flavorings of your choice. It may take longer than a quick trip to the grocery store, but it’s a fun way to enjoy this cold confection.
Volunteer in your community: Serving ice cream is a tried and true way to bring a community together. This may be at the ice cream parlor in a local assisted living center, or perhaps at a free ice cream giveaway at the park, funded by donations. However you do it, the community will be brought closer together by this longtime summer food favorite.
Why We Love National Ice Cream Day
It makes us happy: Now this may seem a bit too obvious, but ice cream makes us happy. If you need proof, just ask some of the neuroscientists over at the University of Sussex in England. In one study, the scientists found that vanilla ice cream activates a part of the brain called the orbitofrontal cortex. In simpler terms, when we eat ice cream, the pleasure center of our brain lights up. This is great news. Thanks science.
It’s social: Whether we’re scrambling down the street chasing the ice cream truck or meeting up with friends at the local dairy, ice cream is more than just a cool treat — it’s a social outing. You can’t beat a shared banana split. Need a place where three generations of a family can all find something they want? An ice cream parlor’s the place to be.
There are endless varieties: Almost as soon as ice cream was sold in America, people started adding new flavors and experimenting with the creation process. Now, more than 200 years later, it’s hard to imagine a flavor of ice cream that’s yet to be invented. Bacon, garlic, wasabi, and fish egg ice cream flavors are all out there at the moment, just to name a few.

My name is Ahmed Bakr, a Palestinian. I live in the Gaza Strip. My least wish is to save my wife and children (Neven, Khaled, Joan, Aida, and Musk) from certain death. I write these words and ask for your help. I do not know whether we will be able to survive. This is my last message to you as a human being and the story of my life and my family since the beginning of the war. My son (Khaled) is his age. (8) years old and suffers from enlarged liver diseases, infections, and anemia from contaminated food and water. We are unable to treat him, buy medicine for him, hold a baby no more than two months old, and I am unable to provide her with milk, pampers, or even supplies for small children. My children need food and treatment. We are deprived of the food we love. Our mental health is deteriorating and very destructive, and we need hygiene supplies in the tents. I was displaced from my home from the north to the south, to Khan Yunis, then to Rafah, and then to Nuseirat. I was injured by an occupation sniper while searching for a living for my children. I endured carrying water, searching for wood to light the fire, and bringing food for my children because there was no gas for long distances. Long, all day long, surrounded by devastation, bloody missiles and shattering shrapnel. We endured constant fear day and night for a whole year without any peace or comfort. I do not know where to take my children. Our lives are very painful and difficult, and every time we miraculously escape death, I want to help everyone who can help us, those with compassionate hearts. We live in the heat of tents and under the blazing sun. My house was completely demolished after years of effort and fatigue and building our house. Then, one night and one day, everything disappeared and my children’s room was completely burned and demolished. Even our car was not spared from the bombing, as we had all the wonderful means and tools. For the sake of a decent life, we started roasting our food over the fire despite the fatigue and heat. We are still standing despite the bombing, hunger, and severe shortages. We need your help. At this Save My Children event, we invite you to share our story with your friends and families with clarity and support. Your sensible words and prayers provide strength to endure these difficult circumstances... (Your donation) can make enough difference in our lives. We depend on your support and your standing by our side through this traditional ordeal, boxing, to restore hope and safety to Hayat and her family. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for considering my application. Your support and donation are very important to me and my family

That is why I am now asking you to lessen and minimize our burdens and loads of life through your contribution. You can help my family survive through donating whatever you can or reposting my messages.
Yours
Rewaa
Can’t donate, so I’ll share!
