Am I the only one who's noticed that Supergirl designs have been booty cheeks up until recently?

Here, just lemme show you.

Her Debut Suit:

This cover was recreated by somebody for those who can't tell. But it's the same cover and this is what I could pull up quickly. So this first suit is fine. Gets the job done. Doesn't feel gratitutious. It's a little safe, little unrefined. But that's what a first suit is for. The idea's out in the world. The cool part about comics is the fact that there's a revolving door of people with ideas to bounce off of yours. Let's have this be our baseline. 5/10

There's an interlude of suits here, but I can't find them all.

Crisis on Infinite Earths Costume

Apparently, Screenrant isn't fond of this suit, but I also trust Screenrant as much as I trust my local politician these days. So screw 'em. I think this design kind of rocks. I like how they clearly tried to evolve her look in a way that's different from Clark's while still having the baseline stay the same. I like how the cape goes into the crest. I'm even kind of a sucker for the stupid headband. My only complaint is the skirt feels a little too high which can cause a lesser artist to sexualize her, but, modern day comics have proven that you can prevent this problem by either making the skirt a litle longer, changing the skirt into those half skirt-half shorts thingies, or having Kara wear spandex beneath it. Overall, an admirable attempt at evolution. 7/10

Post Crisis Supergirl (and all adjacent designs)

I have these designs in order of "hate the most" to "hate the least". I absolutely DESPISE Kara's comic post-crisis look on literally every level. I hate how it feels like a cheerleader outfit. I hate how BLUE it all is. I hate how the outfit feels DESIGNED to be sexualized. It's just a bad look. Not just for her, but for feminist representation in comics as a whole. I have the same complaint for the other two. But Kara's first DCAU suit feels more homemade, which I'm fine with. Her second one has a fine enough color scheme. The skirt isn't frickin BLUE. But overall, it doesn't feel like a superhero design. It feels like the worst person you know in high school wanted to dress slutty to the Halloween party (which there's nothing wrong with that if you dressed up slutty in high school, nobody should've been perving on you anyways) and threw together a slapdash Supergirl outfit. 3/10. Uncreative for people literally PAID to be creative.

New 52 Supergirl:

A step in the right direction, but, not my personal favorite. I get that this suit is supposed to line up with the New 52 super costumes. HOWEVER, I just don't like the New 52 super designs. I just think it's too complicated. I admit this is a personal preference thing, but, I like my superhero designs simple. I believe that you've designed a superhero right when a child can draw one in class with relative ease. This costume is fine, I don't disparage its fans. It's just not for me. 5/10. Objectively not bad, just not for me.

Rebirth Suit:

A much BETTER step in the right direction. It takes all the notes I've given and streamlines it the best it can. It still feels like a CW suit, which is fine, but it's just a note. Can't really change or disparage it for that. I give it the "real solid" award. 7/10.

Woman of Tomorrow MK I:

Perfect. Perfection. No notes. I love the golden trimmings. I don't know if it's Bilquis Everly's design philosophy, but I love how her top is kinda baggy, I love the cape, I love everything about this suit. I love how her belt is kind of like a corset. It's helps to round out the colors well. Just absolutely perfect. 10/10. No notes. Do this.

Woman of Tomorrow MK II:

If you need to "modernize" the costume, then this gets the job done just fine. I'm not ecstatic about it, but I think y'all can tell that's just my preference when it comes to DC designs. I like them simple. I like my Superman to have trunks and look dorky. I like my Supergirl to follow suit. I am really fond of the cape collar. They did something like that in Superman Up in the Sky and I liked it there, too. Overall, solid, but not for me. 8.5/10.

Current Suit:

The epitome of fine. I'm still a believer that jackets are to the 2010's as pouches were to the 90's, but still fine. It's just missing something. Dan Mora typically has the sauce here (and he cooks with her design in World's Finest), but something here isn't clicking for me. 6/10.

Overall, Supergirl's designs didn't really begin to get good until recently. And that makes me sad.

Favorite Movies 2024

I do one of these every year, even though I see less and less of the current releases every year. But, I've been doing it on tumblr since 2012, so it's a tradition and everyone else does it so, why not?

There's a lot of movies I haven't gotten to see yet. Like, as far as I can tell Queer isn't available anywhere even though it's one of those movies I'm sure I'd love. Everyone seems to like The Brutalist, but I don't want to watch a bad cam recording. I don't usually see most non-American movies until the next year. Really excited to see that movie Viet and Nam.

That said, some honorable mentions:

Past Lives was a really beautiful film about a family immigrating to the USA from South Korea and how that affects their daughter and her friend's relationship, not to mention her identity. It's 5/5 for me but it's technically 2023 and it feels more fun to highlight the films I chose.

Perfect Days is a Japanese movie about a guy that works for a toilet cleaning company and it's really a beautiful movie. Like the previous mention the only problem is it's from 2023 and I think it'd be fun to highlight the films I chose.

Conclave is fun! Who would have thought picking the pope was exactly like high school cafeteria drama!

I'm sure no one cares for Speak No Evil, considering this one is an American remake. But, personally I had a lot of fun, James McAvoy is hot and honestly the family deserved it for diving a Tesla.

Drive Away Dolls is a really funny gay comedy. It's not good enough to make a "best of" list, but that doesn't mean it's not worth a watch. In that same respect, Bottoms was really funny. But again, not best of the year worthy, and it's from 2023.

Anyways! The list!

10 - Heretic

Heretic is one of those edgy pseudo intellectual movies that thinks it's so much smarter than it actually is. And I love it. Do not go into this expecting a horror movie, expect it to be some dude trolling some Mormon girls. Don't take it seriously and just enjoy the ride. It's funnier than it is scary. When the guy compares the Book of Mormon to Monopoly, or compares Jesus Christ to Jar Jar Binks? Hysterical.

9 - Alien: Romulus

I don't really have anything to add on to the letterboxd review. As a Alien lover, a Xenomorph fucker, and a die hard fan of the series, I really loved the atmosphere in this one. The world building was great. I'm happy we finally got a decent installment, finally.

8 - Challengers

Again, said most of what I need to up there. Challengers is not the movie you expect it to be. Funny as hell, interesting as hell, melodramatic as fuck.

7 - Will & Harper

Will & Harper is a breath of fresh air in today's transphobic climate. I didn't expect Will fucking Ferrel to be the trans ally of the year, but damn, he tried his hardest to keep Harper happy even in the darker moments. Will Ferrell's best movie (lol).

6 - Love Lies Bleeding

This fucking movie is insane. If you want to see a real lesbian crime thriller, this is it y'all. Music is excellent, acting is astounding, and they throw in some fucking curveballs to fuck with you. Underrated cinema.

5 - Monkey Man

Do you need another reason?

An amazing action flick in a similar vein to John Wick. Brutal, violent, but has so much heart. And we get amazing trans representation. This film looked beautiful, I'd argue only one other film had a visual aesthetic nearly as cool as this in 2024 (it'll come up later). Dev Patel wrote, directed, and starred in this, that's insane. He clearly had so much love for this project and it shows through.

4 - Look Back

I don't usually put anime movies on this list, but I don't know if I'll do an anime list this year so it has to be included.

From the creator of Chainsaw Man, we get a beautiful movie about friendship and loss. It's genuinely a beautiful piece of art.

3 - Femme

I'm not adding my letterboxd, it has spoilers in it and I don't want to ruin the ride. Technically a 2023 movie, but it's on John Waters favorite movie list of the year so it fucking counts.

A brutal look at internalized homophobia and the ways we hurt each other in our own communities. I can't recommend it enough, but trigger warnings for homophobia, assault, and abuse. It's really hard to get into the meat and potatoes of this movie without spoiling it. But, it's fucked up and well made.

I loved this movie. It looks so beautiful, the actors inhabit their characters so well it feels like it's all real, a gay horror movie if I've ever seen one.

2 - The People's Joker

Also technically not 2024, but this is the year everyone got to see it. But, The People's Joker is such a triumph of trans DIY bullshit. Making a movie about a trans woman Joker without the permission of DC sounds so stupid, but it comes together as one of the most interesting pieces of art to come out in the 2020s.

My first experience with this movie was unforgettable. I had no idea it existed, but my girlfriend who worked at a movie theater was like "this movie exists let's go see it!" And I was like, ok that's chill. I was hitting the weed vape so hard before going into this and killed me.

Live action, CGI, animation, this movie is a bizarre amalgamation of styles, built as this weird, indie love letter to Batman. Inside this shell of mixed artforms you find a very basic story about a trans woman finding herself and fighting for the respect of the people around her. And beyond that you can find comedy revolving around Batman lore or comedy revolving around inter community bullshit.

Outstanding movie. Would happily watch it 800 more times.

1 - I Saw The TV Glow

It couldn't be anything else.

Similar to previous, my movie theater girlfriend got a huge group of people together to go see this. I had seen trailers but I figured it was going to be a normal horror movie in the style of Candle Cove type shenanigans. I was very, very, very, very high when I saw this. Of the 15 or so people (all trans) that saw this, the majority were crying, a few were shell shocked and just left, and I'm there laughing about Phoebe Bridgers in the middle.

I don't think there's anything I can say about this movie that isn't already super well known. A transgender horror story with the message "it's never too late." As frightening, as sad as it is, it's also just the beginning of the story that'll have a happy end.

It's beautiful. Looks beautiful. Great soundtrack that fits the vibe. One of the best movies ever made, honestly.

Just a quick update.... Oncologist has confirmed that I'm one of the most stubborn people she's ever run across.... Almost 2 weeks ago I had my 41st infusion of FOLFIRINOX (chemo cocktail for stage 4 colon cancer with Mets to liver, lungs and lymph nodes)... I'm told that most people have to stop taking it at infusion number 12 or 15, and the most she(my oncologist) has ever had a patient handle was 38.. until me. I've NOT allowed them to reduce my chemo for "their" fear of MY side effects ... Hell, half the questions from them are "is this side effects getting worse?" Whether it's nausea, neuropathy, energy, bloodwork levels, etc, and always seemingly with an eye towards "we should cut back on this drug so you FEEL better... FUUUUUUCK THAT! I want this fucking cancer GONE... Not just reduced and I feel great until it kills me... I'll HAPPILY go thru the neuropathy that makes it hard to think, hard to work, hard to even type on a keyboard or work with a mouse, yes, that's coming from an IT person, I'll HAPPILY feel unsteady, feel like shit all day, up 5 to 10 times a night to run to the bathroom, and half of those times to actually have to clean up grrrrrrrrrrrrr, I'll happily take the vitamins, the injections, the pain pills and patches, the sore burning ass, the weakness and the frustration of it all, AS LONG AS I'M DOING EVERYTHING I CAN TO BEAT THE FUCK OUT OF THIS SHIT. And that means DO. NOT. DECREASE. MY. CHEMO. SO. THAT. I. FEEL. BETTER. TODAY. AND. TOMORROW..... YOU KILL THOSE GODDAMN CANCER CELLS, I got it, I can deal with the rest, I'm my own Huckleberry!!!

It's not as effective anymore though.. and the Mets in my liver are growing fairly quickly in some concerning spots...

I pushed my oncologist for alternatives.. even 2nd or 3rd opinions and experimental treatment... And she wrote a letter to the Mayo Clinic. I'm told the Mayo will not even consider giving an appointment unless they feel there is something they can do for you that is better than what you're getting. I had a phone interview, they got all my records, had a care team review my case in detail and a week and a half later, they called to set up an appointment.

I'll be doing some packing today (Sunday July 14) to leave Monday morning and be in Rochester MN at the Mayo Clinic facilities for appointments there on Monday, I'll stay overnight (quite probably in my car since things are fairly tight lately) and more appointments on Tuesday.

So, we will see what they say and what kind of treatment plan they come up with.

(yes, things are tight... Cancer treatment is NOT cheap y'all. Each and every one of my infusions gets billed to the tune of $42,000 per... Not including the testing, the Dr appointments, the hospital visits, the drugs to combat the side effects, the drugs given in combination with the chemo to combat the "essentially" allergic reactions to the chemo... {Yes, I had to ring the bell beside my chair once and had every nurse in the facility converge on me and work to reverse what was going on}... So, so far, me and my insurance company have been billed somewhere upwards of 2.2 million dollars since November of 2022. My insurance happens to be pretty good, so my portion is somewhere around half a million at this point, and as stubborn as I am, when they ask for payments, I stick to my guns and pay an affordable amount each month, to show that yes I'm making payments, and fuck you if you want more. I'm lucky!)

I would like to add... IF you are in a position to be charitable, please do one of the following:

go to one of your local oncology clinics, ASK them what their patients might need (I know there are many of you that found fulfillment in making masks during COVID, put that same effort into making hats for patients losing their hair, donate button down or zip down Henley style shirts (most of us have a port installed in the upper right side of our chest and easy access to that for blood draws, infusion and other treatments without having to fully remove your shirt is NICE), donate homemade afghans or blankets

And if you're really squirrelly, pick a local patient and befriend them, take them to appointments, make sure the snow is cleared from their driveway (chemo takes your strength and endurance away and it makes it HARD sometimes to do the simple things around the house). Rake the leaves, mow the grass, vacuum, Help them out with whatever they need (MORE THAN JUST ONCE). find out what they CAN eat and take it to them several times a week, you cannot imagine just how much that one small thing you do for them can make a HUGE difference in their actual survival!!!

Find an organization close to you that you can donate money towards local cancer patients medical bills.

Sorry, turned out to be not so short of an update and there's some rant in here too, sorry not sorry.. lmao!

but I'm sure hoping for the Mayo to pull something phenomenal out of their hat... I don't even care if it ruins my health or quality of life for awhile, I don't care about short term, I can deal with the shit of it, but I DO care about sticking around until people can honestly say... "Thank GOD that fucker is finally dead, let's PARTY!" Yes I still plan to live until I'm a total pain in the ass for even those few that love me, and then when I've died at 103 yrs old, they can spread my ashes on the Appalachian Trail across TN NC and VA and if they wish to visit they can go into the mountains and woods and I'll come to them as the breeze and whisper of the beauty of nature to them

Oh shit, there are the bugs! Shit, am I actually cheering on the bugs from Starship Troopers? What is going on here, I’m so confused. Whelp, they’re eating Houma-BBQ-Bitch’s brother, good for them.

Back to Granny Wookiee’s Pot Palace, where Toaster Strudel and Julio throw back her questionable moonshine and smile at each other. If they end up with Wookiee girlfriends, it will be weird, but I will be happy for them. 

And Little Orphan Blondie and Chewbacca Junior are talking to the trees, again. Just watching this episode makes me wanna go back to Electric Forest. Except I don’t think Oceana County has wookiees, but it does have crazy people in the woods I guess.

Walker Series Finale Review

This one's going to be a little different than my normal reviews. I'm not going to give a full recap and I'll focus more on my reactions, my hopes, and my (very minor) disappointments.

I have a lot of love for this show and it's very hard for me to see it end, but I think the ending we got was very good and I want to focus on those feelings and hopefully spark further conversation with y'all.

So, let's dive into it.

One of the things I want to talk about first is that, while it didn't feel like a Series finale, it was very satisfying. I think Anna and the team made the right choice choosing not to film an alternate "final" ending. I think if we'd gotten a "proper" finale, it would've been an hour of unearned character moments and rushed dynamics. Everything about this episode felt so natural and while I wish we were getting more, I can appreciate the endings we got.

One thing I really appreciated about the ending was how light it was. I feel like everyone got a happy ending (or close enough to one at least) and after this season, that's what we all needed. Abby and Bonham figuring out their retirement goals, Stella looking forward to a more relaxing college experience, Sadie sticking around the Walker-Broussard family..... All of it was perfect. While I don't have much to say on those plots specifically since there wasn't much to them this episode, I think they ended well.

Now, I want to go over the Big Endings we got and do a little gushing.

First, I want to cover Ben and Liam's conclusion. We've seen them take small steps this season with Ben becoming more integrated into the Walker family and Liam letting his guard down more for him. It was a small part of the season (and one where most of the progression happened off screen) but one I enjoyed nonetheless. We finally get to see them take that finale step toward a complete future together with Liam asking Ben to move in together and start looking at houses. It was a very small, quick moment but one that I loved, especially the actual conversation XD I love Liam and his inability to be normal about things and I'm sure "I want you to use normal words" is a phrase we will hear often in the future Walker-Perez household.

Before I dive too deep into the big emotions of the episode, I want to talk about August's character development. The reveal that August had applied for colleges behind everyone's backs and decided against going to the military was a relief for me. And just the statement of "I guess I'm just that disciplined" shows me that he learned he doesn't have to do that to be worthy of love. While I wish we knew more about his exact plans for the future (and how the hell he got the money for the application fee to Harvard without anyone noticing), I'm happy to hear he's not so self-depricating anymore.

Next, I want to talk about Cassie. I've been feeling a lot of feelings about her for the past few episodes since Anna killed Luna off for no reason (by her own admission too -_-). While I'm not a big fan of her becoming James' lieutenant, I had a feeling that's where the story was going and since she can't have a happy personal life, I appreciate that she got to have at least that dream come true. I also really loved how the show portrayed and handled her grief over Luna. She's struggling, especially with her relationship with Cordell, but she has a lot of support around her and she's glad for it. That scene with Cassie and Kelly and Geri on the couch will be living rent free in my heart <3.

One big thing that I appreciated about her arc this episode is that she's not completely 1000% back on her feet. She's still grieving Luna. She's still wondering if she made the right choice to stay in Austin. She's still conflicted over Cordell. But she wants to get better and move on to a brighter future. So, she forgives Cordell. She gracefully takes the promotion. She opens herself up to her close friends. It felt very natural and comforting and it's more than I could've hoped for for the finale. I wish we could've gotten to see her settle into her role and learn to manage all her new expectations and guidelines dynamics, but there's always fanfic <3

Of course, I can't review this episode without talking about Cordell and his journey. We've seen him hit his lowest point this season and his time in the finale was dedicated to trying to fix some of his messes. His conversations with Stella and August really hit a cord with me and I'm so glad we got to have them before the show ended. That and the constant repetition that he really just need to be there for them. He didn't have to be perfect or set aside all his other ambitions; he just couldn't forget about them.

This translates well to his contentions with Geri. He wants to be the kind of man Geri needs, the kind who's there when she needs him and doesn't leave her feeling neglected. But he needed to learn that that also means letting her be there for him. It means that when he starts to spiral down a dark road, he still leaves a trail for her to follow. No more lying and pretending things are Fine just for the sake of it. And he's willing to make those changes, starting by taking a leave of absence and taking the whole family on a well-deserved vacation. It's the start of a new chapter in his life and I wish him the best.

This episode made me emotional in the best way. While I'm sad we won't have any more adventures with the Walker family, I'm satisfied with where their stories are headed. And, with an open ending like that, who knows what we might get in the future?

3. Least favorite canon thing about this character?

Already this isn't fair, because you know me, you know my blog title, you know my beliefs. ...The entire episode of "Hanky Panky" though. I hate that he cheated on Peg (while still recognizing the significance of it to his character arc, and the archetype he fulfills). It was a hard fall when I got to that episode for the first time. I was rooting for him, we were all rooting for him. And the fact the date the episode released on is so close to my birthday- it felt like a targeted attack.

There are maybe other things..... won't share them here though, y'all stay safe.

20. Which other character is the ideal best friend for this character, the amount of screentime they share doesn't matter?

Assuming I'm meant to answer other than Hawkeye since they're canonically best friends, I really would have liked to see his and Klinger's friendship expand more. I love the banter they have, they seem to get along great, and even if Klinger isn't a dad in the show I feel like he has dad energy and I feel like they'd be really stoked to show each other pictures of their kids in the future and be excited for one another and the milestones their kids reach. I'll stop myself before I go too far off on the deep end with headcanons, but I think their dynamic is often fun and sweet and would love to see it explored more.

22. If you're a fic reader, what's something you like in fics when it comes to this character? Something you don't like?

To be so real with you, I've not read enough fics to have a good answer for this- like down to details. I guess my thing is knowing that BJ is a very complex characters with multiple layers- I feel like I'd get annoyed if I read a fic that took a very fanon approach to BJ and made him like a malicious liar type, which I don't think he is at all. Or if he was boiled down to jealousy or anger issues. That said, I love reading a fic where someone can nail his sense of humor or puns.

Hawkeye Pierce

1. Why do you like or dislike this character?

Why DO I like him, honestly??? I'm rewatching the show from the beginning rn and god.... I landed on this guy??? Echoing your answer when I asked you, he's definitely very complex and I am always learning new things about him/ coming to a different understanding in my interpretation of him. I really appreciate his character arc and what Alan Alda did with his character; I appreciate his views on him as well. I'm also drawn to characters where just about everything happens to them, and god Hawkeye might have pioneered that trope /hj

I'd also argue that I like Hawkeye so much because he's so much unlike the majority of my favorite characters previously. Traditionally, I've been more drawn to serious, academic characters, or charming and romantic, or softer and gentler, or even clean-cut types, and Hawkeye is.... different, to say the least. Not to say he's not capable of some of those qualities... sometimes, but he's... just vastly different than say Aramis, Enjolras, Riza Hawkeye, Peggy Carter, Philippe (mitim), and so on, and so on...

2. Favorite canon thing about this character?

Hah.... This is also hard.

I like how imperfect he is. I would personally think of him as a good person (I say while wincing a bit), but I think more accurately he is a person who is trying to do his job to the best of his ability in one of the worst possible circumstances. And he tries to help people who are being mistreated along with it, and while standing up against idiocy and injustice, and being firm in his pacifism.

Despite that, he's sleazy, disrespectful, sometimes outright mean, and overall probably not someone I would want to be close friends with in real life. (At least, not at where he is in my current re-watching of the show.) He's not a 'saint in surgical garb'; he's a person. A very flawed person. And I like that. I like him. 6. What's something you have in common with this character?

I don't think I can answer this without getting too deep with it. Let's just say I like to think I'm funny sometimes.

12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?

I know none of these are new to you Shan, but you'll hear them again!!!

-I think one of Hawkeye's favorite ice cream flavors is Rum Raisin. I think he also likes splitting a banana split with someone else (as a kid- with either of his parents, does it on dates sometimes, etc)

-I'm purposefully twisting a line given in the show about him having a 'pet' stuffed owl, and saying he had a stuffed owl toy as a kid named Hooty.

-I think his favorite color is red.

-I have a very important headcanon to myself that after his mom passed away, he was given a lot of extra care and love by the moms of a few of his friends in Crabapple Cove. One would send along an extra packed lunch with their kid to make sure Hawkeye had something to eat at school. Another stopping him to fix where his hair looked a mess and straighten his shirt for him. And so, so many hugs and endearments. None of this was done because they thought that Daniel Pierce was neglectful or couldn't take care of Hawkeye, but because Daniel was grieving as well and they wanted to help where they could and ease some of the load off Daniel's shoulders with not only him becoming Hawkeye's sole guardian, but also while still being the towns doctor as well- while he's trying to pick up the pieces and get back on his feet.

I like to think even as an adult when Hawkeye sees one of his friends mom's who had helped taken care of him, he still runs up to them and gives them a big hug. :,)

24. What other character from another fandom of yours that reminds you of them?

Hehe, there's the rub because I don't know if I have one. Mayyyybe Grantaire since I have Les Mis on the mind today, but not reallyyyyy. No offense to Grantaire but Hawkeye is a lot more competent and cares a lot more about things. But drunk, comical, not straight, in love with a blond- that checks out.

I've always wanted to like horror. I always try to get into it? I've had friends all through life that love horror, especially movies. But i end up loving the time i spend watching it with friends more than I've ever enjoyed the content itself. And like i feel like I'm somehow failing to see it the way large parts of the population like yourself do? But i don't know how to enjoy the medium?

The hurtles I've identified so far are that when there's ableism involved i tend to check out fully. That's been a dead end. And when there's painfully illogical choices by the main characters (the ones that the audience are encouraged to connect with). I get it's a useful tool for plot and moving the story along, but any emotional connection that was built there is like nullified? Idk. Not sure how to see what other people see cuz it looks like fun for y'all

Got any advice?

First I'd say - maybe horror just isn't your thing? I love it, I don't expect everyone to love. I barely expect anyone that likes horror to like anything at all similar to what I like. It's a damn slog for me to find new horror I enjoy, even among the horror fandom, because so many of them want it all to be Insidious or Saw or whatever - which is fine but not interesting to me.

Ableism is a deep dive I need to spend time on, but short answer is - I haven't got a good answer here other than maybe steer clear of the "slasher" sub-genre where it seems most rampant.

I think the main item I want to dig into is whether or not horror in general is uniquely poor with ableism, or is it consistent with other media and singled out for other reasons. I have a suspicion that it's the latter, purely on the basis that it's common in generalizations like "horror has an ableism problem" where the reality is "society at large has an ableism problem" that the problem of the former is a reflection of the latter, rather than innate to the former.

But I don't know, Jason is a horror icon and earliest versions ain't too pretty from that perspective. Hard to equate the latter versions with ableism on accounta he is essentially a supernatural entity after a certain point and whatever, you get the idea. It's all complicated and takes time to unravel. However, all that to the side, it may help to consider if those movies in some way reflect something uniquely bad, or if it's instead more upsetting due to horror characters generally existing in upsetting or disturbing situations. Both can be true on a case by case basis - like the infamous "black guy dies first" problem, which STILL HAPPENS somehow even though it's a problem so widely known that it's cliche even as satire. I have some thoughts about that I'll write up sometime as well.

I'm thinking a way to approach it may be via Franklin, the wheelchair using character of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, who I believe is meant to illustrate the poor way disability is treated, confronting the audience with their own biases. That's a whole other long essay that needs a good deal more work. But I notice it, oh boy do I, especially in the beloved "80s movies," yikes. I enjoy much about them, but there was some... stuff.

Now, characters making stupid decisions I mean... that's just movies. That is literally all movies, characters make stupid decisions. I can't say that makes it better, but I can promise you the average bad character decision per horror, science fiction, Disney(tm), drama, romance, etc etc movie is going to average the same. On the other hand, if this happens in almost all the movies your friends watch, they might just have bad taste in horror.

The takeaway here is getting into horror is something you're probably gonna have to work at if you really want to make it happen. Check out reviews, trusted sources, see if you can find some novels or shows or movies that handle those specific issues well. You may find some trusted artists you can go to more consistently but it's probably going to require some screening. And then also - again - if you don't like horror, that's not a failing or bad or anything to stress over. Some people just don't like certain stuff. No big, live and learn, other fish in the sea, different strokes, all that jazz.

182 Days of TPN - Day 165

Chapter 165: "You Can Fly!"

(I've finally reached that point where those old chapter reviews of mine became consistent, so if there's some deja vu moments with stuff I say from here onwards then I apologize. Might not happen since those were done blindly while I have a perfectly good idea of what happens in the story now, but I'll look back at those posts just in case so I don't become a broken record.)

I find it so adorable that even after so many years, Isabella still thinks of Leslie.

The hatred I feel for Sarah has grown immensely over the past couple months, so of course now I can't help but feel a bit giddy over her being shipped out. Peter eventually comes in with a comment stating that the farm made the decision based on who, between Isabella or Sarah, would be more beneficial to the farms, and with the impressive results Isabella has made during her time as caretaker, she was chosen as the obvious choice to keep around. And rightfully so. Thank heavens.

I know this poor woman just wanted to be free from all this hell and while I certainly don't wish to see Isabella suffer under the farm's rules and restrictions anymore, I love her too much to just see her get killed off, so you gotta stick around for a couple more years to help out the kids honey. It'll be worth it.

As much as I despise the man, I do like the intense shadow Peter gets across him during this panel. It really makes the sinister aura believable with how terrified Isabella looks, and for a woman who's been around death for so long and perfected a strong facade over the years to actually show some kind of fear, that's quite impressive he managed to make her feel that way.

After all this time and now I'm just getting the feeling that Isabella was crying a bit sometime during that panel of her looking at her number and chip implant in the mirror back at GF. Anyways, I know it was intentional for her to look completely scared upon making this deal with Peter here, but I love that it's all just an act as we later find out in ch170. (also, not important but this is my post so it was gonna get mentioned anyway: absolutely thankful that the second season decided to keep Isabella's hair down during this scene. She may have made the deal with one of the GF demons instead of Peter, but I can forgive the anime for that because Isabella just looked so perfect.)

Duh, everything this woman does is impressive. Sure, it's real bummer for those kids who had to be shipped out, but at least we learned during 181.7 that she did lower the frequency of the shipments so a fewer number of children were shipped out all together. It was a whole quality over quantity idea that worked out well so good for her. The less lives lost the better.

I'm certainly repeating myself from somewhere, but the way Isabella was able to successfully rally all the other moms and sisters together in less than a day is just fantastic. Such a power move. I still geek out over it.

Motherly instincts kicking back in (pfft, silly me, as if they ever left. that's genuine concern on her face). It's certainly a painful way to fix a finger but at least she helped!

The switch from "mom" to "caretaker" happens so quick it could give someone whiplash. Honey, I know this is all part of a grand performance but I don't like when you openly treat your precious children as food!

Still wondering how y'all managed to cross the giant cliff in order to sneak into headquarters but whatever works I guess. I'm certain they didn't just cross the bridge since security probably would've been alerted much sooner and I'm not gonna believe they arrived via random hot air balloons like the second season did. Regardless, it was quite a surprise to see Norman armed with a gun but very welcomed. Seeing him in the shelter jacket and pants is a good look for him too.

Hi I’ve got a few questions regarding schoolfeeding. How does the purple blood schooling work, is it similar to earth where they have to complete a curriculum to move on to the next grade/level? What grades/levels do purple bloods have in the fleet? Lastly if a troll wants to become a school feeder how can they achieve that?

I'm about to say some shit in an authoritative tone but I don't have time to go double-check myself so if I contradict any of the things I've said in the fic somebody please let me know haha.

EDIT: this is also going under a readmore, y'all are asking very fun questions but boy are the answers long lol

RE: structure, I don't think it's age-based, partially because as a class purplebloods live so long--you get some basic husktop courses when you're on-planet, overall education and basic prep courses, then when you get to the fleet you get sorted out to different ships and split into smaller classes where the schoolfeeders can fast-track the overachievers, scold and hound the underachievers, and if necessary cull the dropouts and the ones who don't improve fast enough.

I definitely made mention of exams, which is would say are just like, all-around reviews of the skills you were taught, every few perigees/half a sweep. Pass and you get to move up to missions and more advanced classes, and officially get counted as an acrobatterer, laughsassin, what have you. Fail and you are definitely harshly judged and have to do it all over again--and if you fail enough times and you don't show enough improvement, you get culled or turfed out into unimportant non-church missions until you shape up in the field or die.

It is definitely textually in the fic that there aren't really ranks, but there are probably very general social strata, beyond that point. A nebulous and heavily reputation-dependent mess that vaguely goes: pre-pupation newbies -> pupated+graduated young soldier -> established, respected Clown Senpai -> titled champion/schoolfeeder -> ship captain/Fleet Cardinal (Scarredinal?? Eh, I'll work on it lol) -> Grand Highblood.

Actually becoming a schoolfeeder, like a lot of the processes as I write them, is kind of an informal matter of reputation and social pressures. If someone is very notable in a field, enough to become known for their expertise, they (or more likely their peers) could bring it up to their captain, who would real quick check with Kurloz and then could go "yeah sure teach those little motherfuckers some shit" and let them at it. If they're notable in a field that already has a schoolfeeder, they could move to another ship and set up there, or they could presumably challenge the incumbent schoolfeeder to prove they know their shit better and the loser has to sulk off somewhere else.

Karkat very much did it a new and unusual way, which is to say he was so intrusive and fearlessly aggressive and was seen directly talking to the Grand Highblood on church business so often that the new little 9-sweep clowns decided probably he was an authority/schoolfeeder, and then multiple high-ranking people in the church were like "oh fuck that's hilarious, uh, YEAH, sure, Feeder Vantas, you got it lololol >:oD"

Unfortunately for them when Karkat was faced with baby clowns asking him for lessons, he whipped out a romance novel and started Educating and it is rapidly becoming much too late to stop him lmao. But that's very much not the normal way, and he's definitely much much younger and uhhh less purple than all the other schoolfeeders on the fleet.

March 2023 Update!

The weather continues to get warmer and my scales are thankful for it. I've had a massive case of cabin fever lately and been itching to go out flying in weather that won't freeze me into a dragon popsicle. Here's the update on what's been going on around the castle this past month.

Firstly, I had a death in the family about halfway through the month that knocked me off-balance in terms of getting things done. Add to that finishing up an intensive project at work and it might not be a surprise that I didn't get much done creatively this month. I'm trying to be patient with myself as I move through the grieving process, but being creative is a big part of how I like to spend my free time. So the last half of March has been a blur and I'm hoping that next month I'll be able to pull myself out of the funk and start making things again.

If you live in the United States, there are a ton of anti-trans bills that are being pushed through right now and we need to call our senators and house members to let them know that won't fly. There's also the matter of the Tiktok ban bill, also termed the RESTRICT Act, that is much more than a proposed ban on Tiktok. It has a lot of wide reaching applications that could make privacy on the internet much more difficult in the future. I would recommend reading up on the bill and then calling your reps to let them know how you feel. It's a rough time for LGBTQ+ folks, especially trans people, and we gotta stick together through it.

I GOT TO SEE THE FNAF MOVIE ON THE DAY IT RELEASED IN AUS AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH im so happy i did. I kinda need to talk about. EVERYTHING that happened. As this is what i just do now when i get all hyperfixated on stuff. but maybe a lil review for people that don't want spoilers (if anyone actually sees this), any spoilers will be under the cut. you have been warned. (i also go off about thinking about theories i apologise)

NO SPOILERS So I liked it. I think it was a good, FUN movie. i say fun because. IT WAS VERY MUCH FUN. It didn't take itself deadly seriously, and while part o f me was interested how it would go if it did, i'm also EXTREMELY happy it didn't as i feel that would've made it's. bad moments bad in a less. than funny way. I wish Matthew Lillard was in it a lil more and I don't think it's like. perfect. i had a few gripes with some of the scenes (which i'll get into under the cut) BUT.

overall? loved it. 10/10 100% recommend you watch it. Also people y'all should never trust the critic reviews for movies like these because they don't CARE about the plot. they don't KNOW fnaf, nor are in t he fanbase. ofc a fucking 40 year old that knows nothing about fnaf isn't gonna like it. I SURE HOPE NOT!! CAUSE THEY ARE BORING OLD MEN!!

ONTO THE SPOILERS.

firstly, getting this out the way because i had a fucking STROKE when i saw matpat. WHAT A FUCKING LIAR. WHAT A LITTLE SHIT(lovingly)!!! HE GOT ME WITH HIS CROC TEARS! i thought he was so deadass when he was all teary eyed saying he wished he was in the movie. i was so upset! i was gonna have a fucking go at scott! I'm so happy he's in the movie it was. such a cute little scene. though how dare he were a nametag that says ness.

secondly vanessa being afton's daughter wasn't that surprising. When i realised that michael wasn't willy's son (like bio or anything) my first thought was "oh well he has to have some type of child" because. scott does that, like in his books. things get changed up sometimes but most things stay the same. aka him having at least one child, just means he didn't get two deadones as well. So when vanessa showed up (i forgot she was in it lmao) i was like. OH YEAH THAT'D. WORK I GUESS. and just assumed immediately thats what they were doing.

ESPECIALLY WHEN SHE WAS GETTING ALL PISSY AT MIKE? like that was a lil obvious she was trying to hide that her father committed the murders cause she didn't want any backlash.

I cannot judge children for their acting because they are children. But i will say one of the children (cough eric) was looking at the camera before. you can see his eyes focusing on the guy behind it. NOT A BIG DEAL I WAS JUST OBSERVING AND FOUND THAT DISTRACTING. also abby's actor was cute i just think a few scenes are a lil iffy with her (she is a child im not blaming her).

vanessa's and mike's romance. what a. thing huh. kinda crazy considering in an alternate reality (the canon universe) mike is william's son and Vanessa isn't. feels kinda weird. but laso like if me MYSELF was vanessa and saw mike? that pathetic man? that absolute sopping WET cat of a man? yeah. fair. i'd be down bad.

listen. i stand by that the whole. abby befriending the fazgang was. 'bad' in the sense of. bro that's so cringe but i am LAUGHING keep on GOING. but also because. hey. consider this. those anamatronics are children. and stuck like that. THEY ARE STUCK AT THAT MENTAL AGE. I THINK IT'D BE SO FAIR THEY'D BE EXCITED TO BEFRIEND A NORMAL FUCKING KID THAT'S NOT DEAD!! this is why im happy the movie didn't go super serious because.

while YEAH it would've been emotional to see this played more seriously, them upset they're dead and still befriending abby, it's just the fact that it probably would've. not landed well, or at least completely, so it would've still had a 'bad' vibe to it. just THIS way we can all laugh at it. I had my head in my hands a few times because i was just "oh gOD" looking @ you. pillow fort. bonnie fucking laying his ass down.

i also understand why scott didn't do the fnaf games lore, or book lore, because he can have more fun with it this way, and also work with blumhouse to make original ideas instead of just. copy pasting from the games/books and hoping they do it well enough it lands.

Lore wise im interested if william has more bio children and how many other children he's killed. what animatronic eric is, if they're going by the logic that everyone bro kills turns into one (imagine he's bb). my friend charlotte said he might be the puppet but. that role i would expect from Henry's daughter. if henry still exists? please tell me henry still exists-

I'm also interested how they're gonna make mike keep on coming back/being involved? we can't go back to fnaf 2 since that was a prequel, i mean i quess you could but also that just doesn't feel correct to do in a movie. so im expecting scott is going to have to (SURPRISE SURPRISE) completely clear up what games go where. so rn it's fnaf 1, we know fnaf 2 was before since bb is there so we're not gonna get a fast one pulled on us on that end. fnaf 3 might be next? but i could also like. see scott skipping that one. BUT i could also see him not skipping it because he wants to 'redeem' it and show that. yeah he fucked up the game but he can make up with it via movie.

oh something obvious to say. vanessa is more than likely a robot. im not gonna get into a fight with the whole robot people are stupid when it's fucking in the books JFHEDSKNJA SO. IM JUST NOT. but like. considering she's afton's daughter i would not be surprised if she actually died when she was younger and got turned into a robot. it's just how it is.

can't wait for fnaf 2 probably coming out in fucking 2031 and fnaf 3 the final coming out in 2045 <3 i might not make it to those movies HFNKEJSD jokes aside im. happy with the movie, excited to see more, especially the lore for it, and though i think fnaf's lore is a garbage fire it's also fun to look at when you take a step back and just. decide to enjoy it with 0 thinking skills for a second.

Breaking it up because Part 1 is basically the Q&A and Part 2 is more of a report on the state of the league.

Sonia Bompastor gives a review of Olympique Lyonnais Feminin: "It remains a successful season"

After a last work week with her staff in order to prepare for next season, Sonia Bompastor, the Lyon coach, gives a review of this 2022-2023 season filled with emotions. And discusses what needs to be worked on for next season, the change of directors with the arrival of Michele Kang, the summer transfer window and the difficulties Lyon faces to draw the experienced players, or people to games. With all the honesty we know her for.

What analysis can you make of this season?

From a sporting aspect, it was good, with three trophies won out of four. We showed once more that we are superior on the national scene. There is obviously a bit of disappointment regarding the Champions League, with especially some regrets with the first leg against Chelsea here in Lyon and a lot of frustration on the return game, since I think we played the correct game and how the players performed on the field. It was a cruel elimination. We deserved our place, but the competition is getting harder. Despite that, it was still a successful season.

Successful but not excellent?

When you're the coach of Olympique Lyonnais Feminin, you have to win everything: have that expectation for yourself and for the club. The players have to have it at their level. It's part of the responsibilities you have to assume. But those are good responsibilities. I'm very competitive and this type of challenge is something I like, even if it requires a lot of energy and investment, and it is becoming harder and harder. Barcelona is dominating on the Spanish and international scene. England as well with talented teams, like we saw with Chelsea and I guess Arsenal. To attract players today, it's more complicated.

Lyon no longer represents the club where all the players dream of playing for?

Lyon remains an attractive club. The problem, it's the league and especially the structure around women's football in France. Players sometimes decide to sign with Barcelona because the stadium is sold-out: when you're a top level player, you want to win tiles and experience those emotions by sharing them with the public. It's what makes the difference in England, it's the quality and attractiveness of the league. The atmosphere and the competitiveness, it's two things which need to progress in France if we don't want the lag to become permanent.

There is the feeling that women's football is beginning to take off everywhere except in France. What do you think?

The league has progressed, the investment of certain club presidents is moving forward, staffs are becoming more and more competent and prepared to compete more with clubs like ours... But beyond that, on a cultural level, it's hard to move the needle. We find ourselves asking how to make things evolve. I saw it last Saturday at home, for our last home game of the season against Reims: the club took the initiative to organize our game as a preview of the men's game, and even if the stadium started to fill up more in the second half, there is still a huge difference between a sold-out stadium for the men and half full for the women. Questions need to be asked.

In England, fans seem to prioritize the club as a whole, and support the men's team as much as the women's team.

It's more so than fans travel to support the national team in England, who was European Champions just last summer. A real momentum was created at that moment. But in the Champions League, we saw it for certain games, for instance ours against Chelsea or Arsenal, it was difficult [for them] to bring people in. They don't sell out every game either but it's true that in terms of timing, for the important events like the final of the FA Cup at Wembley, they bring people together. There was more than 70,000 fans that day. It's true that in terms of identity, it's different here for us. Saturday at the Groupama Stadium, when we were doing our victory lap, we passed in front of the Bad Bones [fan group]. They congratulated us on our performances and our exceptional mentality. It was nice but we would have liked it if they were there more often throughout the season to support us. For me, you go to the stadium because you want to see your team win, but also because you want to see good football, good performances. And that, those are notions that exist with my team's football and should be something that people become passionate about.

Is there a game this season you were entirely satisfied with?

It's maybe paradoxical but I will give two examples: the return game against Chelsea, away and in front of big adversity, to do pull off the game that was needed. And the Coupe de France game against PSG: I don't think people can imagine what we went through in terms of emotions, with the timing of the announcement of Jean-Michel Aulas leaving. We really had to protect the group. And it was really difficult, on an individual level and collectively as well.

To that extent?

Yes, there was a lot of affection. The announcement was violent, it was a slap in the face. We were expecting changes this summer, but there, at a few weeks before the end of the season, it was brutal. We had to distance ourselves, because there were still sporting aspects to play for at that moment, and we had to conserve our energy.

Was it only affection or were you afraid for the the future of Olympique Lyonnais Feminin?

Affection, first of all, because it was a real punch to the gut. And it still is. But you know how it is to function as a human being: every time there is change, different feelings come into the mix. Some see opportunity. For others, it [change] brings an element of fear because we are in the unknown, which brings a lot of questions.

Should we expect a lot of transfer activity this summer?

We have a roster with a lot of players whose contracts are expiring. Some are leaving. We have made offers to Eugenie Le Sommer and Dzsenifer Marozsan, we're waiting on their responses. Some of the Academy players with a lot of potential will integrate the pro group but that won't be enough, especially with Delphine Cascarino's injury. We will need to bring in several players, especially in the offensive sector. There is a real need. We were very clear with Michele Kang and Vincent Ponsot over what we wanted in terms of the group. The players we want have been identified, but they are sought after and we will need to beat the competition from other clubs.

Are you thinking of the English competition?

English football has a certain financial power. Barcelona is attractive as well. In terms of scouting young players, we still have a head start. In terms of experienced players, everyone knows them and several clubs are interested. A few years ago, Lyon was one of the only clubs who could attract those types of players but that is no longer the case.

Pernille Harder's name, whose contract is expiring with Chelsea, is a name that is often associated with Lyon...

It's something we looked at. Pernille Harder, that also means bringing in Magdalena Eriksson, who plays a defender. So it's a pair, and we have to consider all the elements. Some things we don't negotiate on. And also in terms of defense, we're pretty well stacked with Wendie Renard who is continuing, Vanessa Gilles who extended and the return of Gridge MBock, which I hope is soon. Without forgetting Alice Sombath who is giving us a lot of satisfaction. When you are too stacked, there is a risk of frustration amongst the players. You have to find the right balance. When you have five or six top level players for two spots, it's hard to keep everyone happy.

Will Lindsey Horan also extend?

As long as it hasn't been signed, we can't commit but both parties are in agreement and it's on a good track.

Is there a risk of seeing Ada Hegerberg leave?

As I already said, Ada [Hegerberg] is under contract and hasn't expressed the desire to leave. And we're delighted to keep her. There is nothing to talk about. There was real interest from Barcelona after the final of the Champions League last year, where they inquired, but I will repeat it, it's not news.

The story with Catarina Macario ended a little bit on a sour note. Did you discuss things with her?

We talked. What was said will stay between us. Catarina [Macario] remains a great player, there is no doubt. I would have liked for it to end differently. I told her what I thought. It has nothing to do with the choice to leave Lyon. She was obviously free to sign elsewhere since her contract was expiring. In terms of how she went about it, I would have rather things were done differently.

What does the ideal roster look like?

It's a group of 22 players, which is a minimum, with up to 25, excluding goalkeepers. This is necessary. But if I just have international players, the locker room explodes. But once again, you have to find the right balance, with young, talented players, experienced players, and profiles which fit in between.

Are you going to dip into the pool of the Academy?

Several academy players will be integrating the pro group. I am thinking especially of Liana Joseph and Maeline Mendy. They are ready on the athletic level and have done some really good things on the football level, and they proved in the final of Euro U-17s, which they won the final with 100 percent of the goals coming from Lyon players.

Chapter 170 Expert Review

Garou said he liked a woman. People died.

Not me though lmao y'all take it easy!! I wanted to die earlier this week though because I got a haircut and they fucked my shit up severely but I'll get through it ok. I won't get any bitches but it'll be okay, I just gotta stay strong. (<- typed with tears in my eyes)

My schedule in doing these reviews has gone to shit because a lot of the time I just have absolutely zero opinions on new chapters... or entirely negative ones. And I don't wanna make a post that's just 100% negativity, y'know? Gotta balance it out. Gotta have the vanilla and the chocolate.

With that being said,

Nice cover. The perspective bothers me a bit, especially since Genos' feet are exactly the same size when one is below the other but it's FINE, okay. (<- also typed with tears in my eyes) (for legal reasons this is a joke i genuinely like this cover and i think it's swag)

But I'm being dramatic. The MA (Monster Association) arc wasn't all bad. There were little pockets of joy in between the seemingly pointless fighting chapters and that kinda solidified my opinion as this being the most "meh" arc in this manga thus far, and I'll elaborate on that. If you don't wanna read my neckbeard rant on the MA arc, you can go ahead and scroll down to my next bullet point. It's nothing I haven't said already. Just wanna preface it with the fact that these are my opinions and you're entitled to your own feelings. Hell, if you love the MA arc, I'll suck you dry right here right now! Just don't suibait me for disliking it hehe thnx &lt;3

I think the manga is at its best when it's character-centric, as I'm sure that's why so many people love it to begin with. Those little chapters with Badd and King slingshotting themselves to the fight and the tanktoppers and other heroes running out of the hospital were honestly some of my favorites!! Everything else was just... kinda muddled together. A giant fight filled with smaller fights in an arc that takes up over half of the manga's current 170-chapter run yet takes place all in one night. So much happened, but it also feels like nothing happened. And in a way--nothing did, because ONE is allergic to committing to whatever hole he's dug himself into.

ONE purposefully backtracks on character-defining moments like the two fake-out deaths: Tanktop Master and Genos. Aside from it just being cheap, he treats death like a corner to write himself out of instead of an opportunity to shift the narrative and add a major risk factor, to which there was none. It was boring. Borderline infuriating, actually. Why even have so many fights just to show the good guy winning in a slightly different way every time?

It was especially jarring when Saitama time-traveled back and forgot all the shit that happened in the fight with Garou (which took 8 giant chapters, by the way). So why even do all that just for Genos' core and the Ominous Future to MAYBE crop up as a plot device later? Why elongate an already stupidly long arc with something that could've been achieved in a much shorter, simpler way?

There were over 20 redraws. Some of them were just Murata fixing some things he wanted to, which is fine, but then you have things like bringing back the mercenaries, bringing back Do-S, and retconning the Saitama sit-down arc, and it's just... confusing. It's confusing as a reader and I'm sure it was also confusing as a writer because it definitely gives the impression that ONE was in the office throwing darts at a board to see what happens next. It's like... does he even know what's going on? Why are we planting so many seeds for future plot points now, when the current plot is already plenty convoluted (yet, simultaneously lacking substance in favor of pretty pages)? CANT THIS FUCKING WAIT TILL LATER--

Whatever. It's over now. I hope it gets more ironed out in print. I'm just frustrated with this because OPM is supposed to be a satire of the shonen/seinen/whateverthefuck genre, yet ONE keeps allowing it to have the same narrative pitfalls as most others. (Also the same homophobic and racist tropes--can't just do like 80% of the same things as the genre you're claiming to satirize and say you're any different, ATP.)

Murata said he'd be taking a month-long break and good for him. Hope he parties hella hard.

TLDR: I think the MA arc is too long, the pacing sucks, too many fights, not enough substance. also drive knight is still a punk ass. also I think the time travel was stupid and I'm afraid ONE is gonna use it to weasel his way out of more consequences for his characters in the future but anyway,

In my rant about the MA arc, I completely forgot about the actual chapter I'm making this review about. I had to go back and re-read it. Anyways, fuck yeah character interactions! I love when people be talking to each other n shit! fuck yeah! woo! characters! love em! love guys!

this makes 0 sense but this is the most Garou that Garou has looked in years. I mean, over time Murata's art style has changed and that's just groovy, man! But I kinda missed his stupid little evil face. I wanna hit him with my car.

I was waiting and praying and creaming my pants to see him with short hair but that just... never happened. I'm not mad. We got to see him and Silverfang be the most dysfunctional pussy-eating uncle/bitchless nephew combo ever and that's just priceless, but it makes me curious how his whole redemption thing is gonna turn out, if it even happens. Because if this is it then... it's a bit underwhelming. I thought there'd be more introspection and humbling other than Garou just saying "Fuck y'all, I'm suicidal!" in front of everyone before leaping fifty feet into the air, meditating under a waterfall for an undetermined amount of time, and getting bonked over the head with a closed fist (which is illegal everywhere, btw. Silverfang prison arc when? /j)

What I mean is, Garou did a lot! A lot of bad stuff! Lots of bad things! And for that to be mended offscreen is... a weird choice. But I guess this is where Genos' core is gonna crop up later, my man's gonna make the callout post of the century: Garou Whooped My Ass In The Multiverse: Part 1 of 97, which is gonna send Garou spiraling and then he's gonna get humbled the only way he can be humbled! Working minimum wage. Because beating his ass to the point of him wanting to get laid out like carpet in the ruins of City Z just wasn't enough.

I like Garou. He's a cool character. I wanna kiss him on the lips.

I give ONE a lot of shit for his dubious writing decisions but he did well with Garou. That's it. That's all the praise I'm giving him.

This dude really tried to give Bang the ol' "you're not my dad!" Nice try, fuckhead. He's still got legal custody of you until you're 35 because you can't go 10 minutes unsupervised.

Anyways, it's nice to see Bang be a nice parental figure. I would call him a father figure but that ship sailed 50 years ago. My man is a grandfather figure. My man's an ancient figure. My man's an archaeological-find figure. My man's a 2-years-from-the-urn figure.

This dude beat so many of his own disciples' asses I was worried his first instinct upon finding Garou again would be to whoop him into silly putty, but I'm glad he's approaching it with kindness. This kinda goes in line with why Garou likes the girl he likes (whether it be as a crush or as a role model-esque kinda admiration, I don't fucking know nor do I care) because she's kind. I guess deep down, he knows it must take true strength to be kind in a world full of cruelty.

Also, I love how absolutely emotionally constipated he is to where he doesn't even know how to reply to Silverfang waxing poetic about being a parent. Motherfucker just yanked that shit right out before it sunk in and went "Ha! This is gay." I love you Garou. Never change-- actually, please change. On GOD we gonna get you therapy bro on my MOMMA you are gonna grow as a person !!!

Additional observations:

-Garou is so dorito-shaped here smh where's my slim-thicc king at, huh. Where's my wide hip representation?

-Adding on to what I said about Murata's art style evolving over time, one thing I'm kinda iffy on is how he's been drawing Garou a lot buffer on the top half lately. I also don't really like his shoulder muscles looking like padding lmfao. I mean, that could also be attributed to the extra training he got (and maybe Silverfang is actually feeding him 3 square dog kibble meals a day now since he wanna act a furry) so idk, take me back and shoot me between the eyes if I'm wrong.

-I know Silverfang is hunching over (probably from playing too much League of Legends, smh) but Garou is still so tall!!!

I know this fuckhead's immune system has gotta be benching 480 just from the monster arm he ate that one time, but how he is not worried about some kinda infection crawling up his bare asshole underneath that nasty ass river water just amazes me. Maybe that's why he's always clenching.

We know you've got her horoscope and birthday bouncing around in that tiny ass head, you fucker. We know you read all the nerd-equivalents to those Cosmo mags about what kinda people she admires.

I love that he's a nerd, but we already knew that. He absorbed his entire worldview from cartoons and got relentlessly bullied at school--what's nerdier than that? And it's certainly no secret that he's pretty juvenile. Garou's just a lonely little kid in a body too big for his brain.

And the people saying Garou "liking" a girl (which again, it isn't even made clear which way Garou likes her) makes him straight are 1. incorrect (bi, ace, aro, etc people exist) and 2. unaware of the fact that I will draw him kissin boys until that little fucker turns to dust okay. I do not give a shit. Every time someone complains about it, I imagine him kissin a boy 5 more times. Suck my ass.

In conclusion: Kiiro ("...or something?") is actually pretty cute haha mrow. trust me girl, whatever you got lined up aint nothing to me haha i can treat you RIGHT (after my hair grows out)
