Danny is glad he actually made a plan for once. Jazz had been on his back about telling their parents he was Phantom, and he had managed to convince her he had a plan. The only thing that would extend how long it took was the frequency of ghost attacks.
He generally didn’t have much free time, so luckily Clockwork was willing to put him in a time bubble so he could get stuff done, like get enough sleep. But mostly he was training. Sometimes with Wulf to make portals, but other ghosts had come by too.
The power that was giving him the most trouble, and that he needed most for his plan was duplication. It took forever and he still couldn’t have more than 3 versions of himself at one time. How Vlad managed so many he had no idea.
Anyway back to his plan. He got all his stuff that he couldn’t afford to lose hidden away, got copies of all his parents blueprints and files, replaced items that he didn’t feel comfortable letting them keep if worse case scenario came, and a few more miscellaneous things.
He decided not to tell Sam and Tucker what he was doing. Though he did give them a mysterious file that they weren’t able to open yet. It would lead them to him later. But he needed their reactions to be legitimate, even if he hated having to potentially distress them for a bit.
He then sent his duplicate in his place back home while he went to the Ghost Zone to keep learning and keep an eye on things. Hopefully things went well, but he planned to spend a full living realm month here just in case his parents faked taking it well.
————————————————————————
It did not go well. About two weeks after his duplicate told his parents they knocked him out and buried him in a ghost proof coffin. Was he glad he wouldn’t have to experience his worse fears as a lab experiment? Yes. Was he still going to have nightmares of being trapped underground unable to escape? Also yes.
He was glad it was his duplicate though. It was easy for him to undo from a distance and since they had been connected he still had all the memories. He typed in the code for the file he gave his friends before he left. Time to go to Gotham, the one place he was able to wheedle out of Clockwork would be best for him.

i had a payneland idea inspired by @thefutureandonceking’s post about dps and dead boy detectives and the second i read that i had an idea
what if edwin started the dead poets society and was the first member? what if when charles went to st. hilarions he was a pledge and then became a member?
what kind of ghost stories could come out of that and how would they be described in terms of the societies history, i mean it’s founding member died under mysterious circumstances right? he would be a legend, not just because of his infamy of never bringing in a piece that wasn’t his own, pieces that should have been published for the world itself, but for also dying mysteriously and possibly violently like all the great poets.
charles was already a surprising member having poetry be something he wouldn’t seem interested in, however be the most inthralled with poetry out of anyone at the time. maybe not writing the best poetry out of anyone but being able to find and read poetry with the emotional weight of a naval ship. a member who would have made the founders proud. now of course he dies and joins the ranks of those others in the club who had not just lived but experienced life.
imagine charles confusion as he hides from his once friends and he figures he’s hallucinating the face of the founder of his club whom’s face he’s memorized just like all the others in the societies past. he probably figured he was dying already and wanted a face he could not only recognize but relate to. now of course imagine his confusion as he realized he’s not having death visions he’s actually seeing the ghost of edwin payne, the myth and legend, who created that little club.

this morning crossed wires w “i’m bald” poll answer to indicate unlisted option with nuance/none of the above and boba “slapping his bald head” fett in the book of boba fett (2021) and imagined a star wars where, by some quirk of linguistic development, clone troopers in the GAR begin replying to yes/no or multiple style-choice questions with “i’m boba fett” to indicate a hitherto unmentioned nuanced option or none of the above

I think the thing that’s most compelling for me about the live action iteration of Luffy is that they’ve stripped away all the expectations of the Shonen Protagonist.
Right away they let him have some character growth and vulnerability that we didn’t get from the manga until several dozen or hundred chapter in! He’s allowed to be indecisive and to make the wrong call and to NOT know what to do and to get comfort and reassurance and advice from his friends!!!
Everything goes to shit - Zoro is mortally wounded by Mihawk - and after they drag Zoro’s bleeding body into the galley, Usopp is running around looking for the first aid kit and Nami is trying to staunch the bleeding and Luffy completely detaches himself from the moment because it’s more than he can process! He never for a moment thought Zoro would lose and here are the consequences. Nami has to call his name several times before he can even answer her! And even when he runs into the Baratie’s kitchen, he’s so flustered and upset that he’s nearly incoherent and the pathetic way he says “My friend is dying” is absolutely heartbreaking!
It’s such an interesting take to see so early on, because the few instances in the manga where Luffy has lost a fight or not know what to do or royally fucked up have been because he didn’t understand the situation or he wasn’t properly motivated, etc. His authority as captain and the whole “playing at pirates” thing isn’t even something that gets called into question until WATER 7, and it’s Zoro who calls him out because he’s so ready to forgive Usopp.
To do it NOW? During the East Blue arc???
To have it be Nami who tells him he’s shit at his job and that he Needs to take it more seriously because Zoro is DYING??
I’m frothing at the mouth about it tbh because Luffy takes that shit to heart - because it’s after this confrontation that Nami LEAVES. Luffy says it himself when he’s talking to Zoro while he’s unconscious. HE lost the grand line map, HE lost Nami, and HE feels responsible bc he might lose Zoro too!
All those failures - all that guilt - bothers the hell out of him and we get to SEE that!
Part of Manga Luffy’s charm apart from his emotional intuition is that he’s a lil fuckin bulldozer and he’s so arrogant and selfish and that head is empty zero thoughts 98 percent of the time - to soften those harder (arguably less palatable) traits and make live action Luffy just so fucking earnest and thoughtful and intelligent is such an incredible take I’m just obsessed with it! I’m eating it up!!! Bc he’s still LUFFY at his core!
He’s goofy and smiley and charming and fun and happy and easygoing and he’s dumb as hell and he’s constantly hungry and he loves to fight and he’s KIND and he sticks up for other people and he believes in himself!
He believes in other people’s dreams!
He doesn’t think you should let anything or anyone stand in your way!
He cares so much about his friends and he LOVES them and he’d die for them in a heartbeat!
But he’s also allowed to have a fucking panic attack when his friend is literally bleeding to death and oh boy do I love to see it!

no ok because forevers solo mission into the nether and all the vague ‘if I don’t return’ and ‘I’m sorry’ messages he’s left behind is made all the more heart wrenching because he wasn’t meant to be the martyr.
bad has been setting himself up for tragedy. it’s in the self destructive choices he makes, his hyper paranoia, his self isolation, the way he’s literally turning blue and can’t seem to notice it himself. and from a meta perspective, it’s obvious - he talks about lasting consequences, he makes very clear framing and music decisions, the story arc has been setting up for something big. he’s got a book that says it’s for forever’s eyes only and hinted at him needing his help. he’s said to tina that he’s 100% sure of one person ending up dead at the end of all this. he’s made it clear he’d do anything he thinks would get the kids back - self sacrifice included.
it’s been an anxious build up as bad gets worse and worse. as his friends pick up clues and notice. bagi says she knows that bad lies and can cause havoc, but she’s not going to leave his side because he is too sad to be left alone. foolish takes note of his color blindness before anyone else. forever demands his time and reassures bad daily that he is there for him. gives him a flower every day. makes an entire party just showing how much bad is cared for and loved. keeps talking and visiting even when he’s ripping out his hair with annoyance because bad just won’t quit being a nuisance, or argumentative, or a probable kidnapper.
it feels like love and doomed endings. it feels like a build up to something tragic. it feels like trying to save a drowning man who won’t let anyone pull him up. because bad is ready to work for the feds, torture people, burn down anything in his way, sacrifice himself in his desperation and grief.
but now its forever who’s gone and decided any danger to himself is worth it for his son. who’s left behind vague goodbyes and see you soons, unsure if he’ll survive but set on the kids surviving at the very least. he’s already decided his death is worth it.
and while it’s not a surprise, it’s enough of a script flip to punch us all in the gut. because we expected tragedy, we expected uneasy goodbyes and self destructive choices and that effect felt across the island - but we didn’t expect it to be forever.
and neither did bad - who relied on that flower every day

ik it’s been forever in internet time but i’m gonna die mad abt the way the live action atla show got a good amount of backlash and criticism from the fanbase meanwhile the pjo show was THAT horrendous and the fanbase treats critics like they’re out to kill their mother. as someone in both fandoms am i crazy bc i keep fucking seeing people say yes 💀 like!! these shows, whose original series were both about a 12 year old boy born with godlike powers going on quests with his friends to save the world, released in the 2000s, and had a shitty movie adaptation, now reboots released within weeks of each other, both committed nearly identical crimes of character assassination, exposition dumping, dumbing down their source material, sanitizing “problematic” elements (that the characters originally had to overcome), and wasting actor potential (also at least live action atla had good action scenes CANNOT say the same for the pjo show)—and i’m seeing like mainstream(ish) social media coverage of new atla show critique by people with millions of followers all across different sites, but nothing even close to that for the pjo show?? if that coverage exists for the pjo show somebody fucken send it to me bc like!! the pjo series is Not an unpopular series, i get it’s a book series and not a tv series so i didn’t expect the popularity to be exactly the same, but Damn! i feel like i need an hours long video essay comparing the two audience reactions to these series’ first season releases bc they were WIDLY different

i love the scene where steve hits billy with his car for a lot of reasons, but one of it is for the monster hunting trio of it all.
so, jonathan’s in the car, trying to get away, nancy’s standing guard, shooting at billy, and steve is the one that swoops in at the last second, sacrificing himself for them (obviously he didn’t die, but could’ve so it still counts)
anyway! first of all, you get the parallels to season 1, with jonathan repeatedly dragging the both of them away from the demogorgon and to safety, nancy shooting the demogorgon to try to save them, and steve running in, to dive in front of the demogorgon.
just, like, at their core, these characters aren’t totally different. they’re changed by what they’ve witnessed, but their instincts are still the same, even nearly two years later, they’re still trying to save each other.
just, in both seasons, they’re protecting, but in different ways. jonathan is trying to save them by getting away, nancy is trying to save them by killing the thing that’s threatening them, and steve is trying to save them by diving in front of them all, and doing whatever he can to protect them.

Dead Poets Society
I’ve just watched Dead Poets Society, at last.
And my god, what a film.
The only way I know how to review a movie is by telling what I felt watching it, and what I felt was raw. I felt hope, as if I could be what I want to be, as if my want to write is good.
I felt my heart beat!! And also this weird grief, because I’ll never get a boyhood like this.
So many aspects of this film are great, i don’t know.
Neil’s character is rooted with passion, it’s so interesting to see him realize what he wants to do, and then cling to it like an anchor.
The way he died for it.
The feelings in this movie ring so true.
Mr.Keating’s thoughts on education and poetry are like this, door to the Beat Generation movement, right? That’s what they were all about, I think.
I actually can’t form coherent thoughts, everything is jumbled.
Perhaps I need to watch it a thousand more times before I can write about it.
I’m not making any sense at all, my apologies.

Tachihara losing his brother and not understanding what he was feeling or how to deal with it since he was so young (5). And as he gets older, he starts to wonder if he really missed his brother or he missed the idea of having a brother.
He assumes that because he’s grown since then and it feels so distant that he could handle it if it were to happen now. Maybe that’s because he’s killed people of his own. But he never really wants to dwell on it.
Turns out. It’s not. It hurts just as much, but now he blames himself as well. Why wasn’t he there? Why didn’t he stop Fukuchi when he had the chance? If he’d just asked for help, this all could’ve been avoided.
He’s always been a loner to some extent, never good at processing feelings, always wanting to belong but feeling like he was an outsider.
It’s not until they’re all gone that he realizes how much emptier he feels without them.
Shunzen may have been his brother by blood, but as much as he doesn’t wanna face it. Tachihara barely remembers him.
He remembers them. He spent the last 6 years being raised by them. They always encouraged him, supported him, even when the government and fate itself were trying to control them. And yet.
He wasn’t there.
