—0.5 flipped ; james potter
sum: you’ve been obsessed with James since you met him, but he doesn’t feel nearly the same. then, he’s flipped.
warnings: James throwing his breakfast in the trash
notes: this was inspired by the movie ‘flipped’. delulu girls win!!! sorry for being a bit too long, this is different from my usual works !
These are all the things people know about James Potter; he’s a skilled quidditch player, one of the smartest students in your grade, a lightweight, and he can manage his time well between practice, classes, and parties.
But those things, they’re just surface stuff. These are what you know about James Potter; he has the most beautiful brown curls, hazel eyes that change between brown and green depending on the sunlight, a delirious laughter, and the most flirty drunk you’ve ever known.
Sirius introduced you to James during your second year. And since the moment you saw him, robes askew, chocolate smeared all over his cheeks, and glasses slanted on his face— you’ve been in love with him since.
Maybe it was love at first sight, the plausible explanation. Or perhaps it was obsession. Either way, you haven’t paid attention to anyone other than James Potter himself.
“Hey, Siri. Hi, Remus. Have either of you seen James? I thought you lot finished practice minutes ago.”
Sirius nodded, chewing down the rest of his waffles before replying. “Mhm. Doing extra rounds, Prongs looks a bit stressed on the field today.”
“Perfect!” You clapped your hands together, “I’ll just bring some breakfast down for him.”
“Actually, Y/n! I don’t think you should—“ Remus interferes.
“Don’t worry, Remus. I’ll be sure to get two waffles. I know he gets hungry after practice.”
Remus tried to protest again, but Sirius waved him off with a look that said ‘what can we even do to prevent it?’
…
In the middle of December, snow covers the Hogwarts ground. You’re careful as you hold onto the napkin that holds James’ breakfast. The quidditch field isn’t far off the castle grounds, so you make haste of your movements and quickly head to the entrance of the Gryffindor locker rooms.
“James?” You shout, stepping inside until you see the one and only locker door open and the curly headed boy lying on the wooden bench in the middle of the room.
He immediately stands up, the voice all too familiar for him to not flinch. “Y/n?”
You appear in front of him with a wide smile, grinning happily as you set the breakfast in front of him on the bench. “Hi! You didn’t come for breakfast so I asked Siri where you where and he mentioned you’re practicing extra by yourself. So I figure you’d be—“
“Y/n!” James shouts louder.
“.. So I figured you’d be hungry.” You finished, your voice lower this time like you’d been caught red handed at something.
“Thanks. But no thanks.” He smiles forcefully. He grabs at the napkins holding the waffles and two pieces of strawberry, crumpling it in his hands and aiming it for the big black bin at the corner of the room.
Of course it lands perfectly inside, and he huffs an angry breath as he takes in your flushed, ashamed look.
“Look, just like you noticed, I wasn’t at breakfast. Because I don’t want breakfast. I’m not in the mood, yeah, Y/l/n? And I don’t need you trailing after me like a lost fucking puppy you want to feed breakfast. I’m not your anything, understand?”
Harsh. His words struck you in the gut. Maybe you should’ve listened to Remus earlier. James had never been practicing late unless he was ordered to. And you should’ve remembered it was winter as well. No one would willingly practice more quidditch than required in the harsh December winds.
“I— I’m sorry.” Your face flushed. You had to admit, you’d never been so embarrassed quite like this moment before. “I thought it’d be a nice thing.”
James stood up, picking up his towel, a spare shirt, and his knit beanie and stuck it in his locker before banging it roughly.
“If I haven’t made myself clear all these years, Y/n, let me make it clearer. I’m not interested.” He scoffed. “And I won’t be fucking interested because you bought me breakfast.”
You were left standing in embarrassment. Your eye making contact just a second with James, then to the bin where the breakfast you had bought for him was thrown in.
“Just back off, Y/n. I mean in.”
…
James had been feeling pretty guilty for the whole week. Yes, he was annoyed by you at the moment and yes, he’s always been annoyed by you. But all the times he’s ever been annoyed with you, none of those times has he said something like that. And after careful realisation, he’s understood that his words may have hurt you a tad bit.
He wants to apologize, but he doesn’t know how. Especially not to you. So he doesn’t. James doesn’t apologize for weeks, and then a month, and then he finally comes to terms with the fact that his brain somehow misses your annoying face, your annoying voice, and your annoying personality always annoying him.
“I have a question.” James interrupted his friends who were mountain deep in their homework.
“Hm.” Sirius shot lowly while he closed his subject book, “Go on. Think I’m done for the day.”
Remus shot his eyes at the interaction between his friends, leaning back on his seat to pay attention to James.
“So, you lot know about the incident a month ago, yeah?”
Sirius scoffed, “Mate, the bin waffle? Course we know!”
“Not really something to brag about, Prongs.” Remus chimed in.
“Look, I know. I’ve done some thinking and—“
“You wanna apologize to her?”
James stayed silent, “Well, I—“
Remus shot his friend a look of pity, “Honestly, you should’ve done it months ago. We know you may not like her, but she’s still mine and Pads’ close friend. And yes, she’s done so many things to annoy you but ..”
Sirius continued, “But it was a really shit thing to say. And you were fucking rude! I mean honestly, Prongs! Throwing out the waffles? Not necessary!”
“I know, I know. I’ve been feeling pretty bad about it recently and I want to apologize, really. But I dunno— things are just confusing.”
“How is it confusing? You just need to walk over to her and apologize.” Remus shrugs.
“That’s not it, Moony. It’s more confusing, like— I don’t even know how to explain it, y’know. Like, I used to be so fucking annoyed and pissed when she’s around. But now, it’s like somethings missing. Something like .. her.”
Sirius scoffs, “Shut the fuck up!”
James looks confused, “What—?”
“Shut up!”
“Literally not saying a word.”
Sirius stands up, “James Potter!” his hands banging on the table until the librarian is ordering him to calm down.
Remus looks up at him and pulls Sirius’ hand to sit back down at his chair. “Maybe you should tell him quietly.”
“I love how much you don’t notice, mate. You’ve got a crush on her, Prongs!”
James scoffed, his arms immediately crossing. “No I don’t.”
“Yes, you very much do.” Remus replied.
Sirius smiles, “You may not have liked her when she was bothering you, but you sure are thinking of her when she’s gone.”
“That’s nothing. It’s just cause I feel bad.”
“No you don’t!”
“I actually do, Pads. That’s why I’m bringing this up.”
Sirius scoffs with a wide smile, “No you’re bringing this up because you need to talk about it.”
“Well— yes. Because I need advice on how to apologize.”
“No, mate. Prongs, you’ve totally got a crush on her!”
“I don’t!”
“You’re so stubborn, mate. You know that saying ‘you lose them and then you know’? Thats you!”
Remus interjects, “Actually, the saying is ‘you don’t realize what you’ve got till it’s gone’. But yes, I do think it resembles this situation.”
“It doesn’t resemble anything. Besides, if she is here right now I’m positive I’d be annoyed just the same. I just feel bad for the .. waffle incident.”
“Wrong. Don’t believe it.”
Sirius looks across the table where James is and gives him a dumbfounded look. “Alright, fine. If you really think that, then what d’you say to a bet, huh? We prove that you’ve got feelings for her and if we succeed you pay for all your drinks whenever we go out for a whole month.”
James rolls his eyes, “And how would you prove that? She’s not even talking to me.”
Remus shoots Sirius a coy smile, the gears in his head turning as he makes up a plan in his head. “Well we’d just apologize to her for you and ask her to hang out with us. Then we’ll see your reactions and … other things.”
“Perfect plan!” Sirius chimes excitedly.
“I don’t agree to all of this.”
“That’s cause you’re scared to show us you actually do have a crush on Y/n.”
“One, I don’t. And second, fine. I’ll agree. But if this doesn’t prove anything and I’m right all along that I do not have a crush on her, you both will be doing my Arithmancy for a month.”
“Really? Why’d you even take that elective?” Sirius scoffs.
James smirks and extends his hand for a shake, “Deal?”
Remus shakes James’ hand quickly as his boyfriend beside him makes a sound of protest. “Moony! It’s Arithmancy, I thought we’d just have a counter agreement.”
“Come on, Pads, I’ll be doing all the work anyways.”
…
You clutched your books tightly, the familiar weight providing little comfort as you walked the corridors of the castle. Resentment and annoyance simmered within you since the incident with James.
As Sirius and Remus approached you after class, your expression soured. "What do you two want now?"
Sirius cleared his throat, putting on a cheery facade. "Hey, Y/n! Prongs wanted us to extend his apologies again for the breakfast thing. He's really sorry, you know?"
Your eyes narrowed at Sirius. "Sorry? James is sorry for tossing away the breakfast I brought for him without a second thought?"
"Yeah, he's been beating himself up about it. Really wants to make it right," Remus chimed in, attempting to sound convincing.
Your frustration reached its peak. "Is he? It's easy to be sorry now, isn't it? But where was his remorse when he threw the waffles in the bin like it was nothing? Tell James I don't need his apologies.”
Sirius and Remus exchanged a quick glance. Remus spoke softly, "Y/n, we understand how you feel, but Prongs is really trying to make amends. It might help if you could give him a chance to apologize properly."
"Yeah," Sirius added, his tone earnest, "We all miss hanging out together, and Prongs, he genuinely wants to make things right. Look, we’re all hanging in the commons just after classes are done.”
You hesitated, torn between your anger and their earnest plea. After a moment of contemplation, you sighed. "Fine, I'll be there. But not because of James. I'm doing this because both of you are my friends. And I’ve missed hanging."
As you walked away, Sirius and Remus exchanged relieved smiles, hoping that this hangout might just make them win the bet.
…
i - reconciliation
You sat in one corner of the Gryffindor common room, a book in hand, although your mind was elsewhere. Sirius and Remus hovered nearby, trying to create a relaxed atmosphere, but the tension lingered like a thick fog in the room.
When James entered, your heart skipped a beat. His eyes fleetingly met yours before darting away, a visible unease surrounding him.
"Hey, Y/n!" Sirius exclaimed cheerfully, attempting to break the heavy atmosphere. "We’ve been thinking of names for Moony’s new owl!"
"Yeah .. definitely that," Remus added, striving to mask the tension in his voice.
James cautiously approached, his gaze finally meeting yours. "Y/n, can we talk?" His voice was quiet, carrying an earnest plea.
You hesitated momentarily, then nodded, reluctantly setting aside your book and following James to a quieter corner of the room.
"I'm sorry, Y/n," James began, his voice laced with genuine regret. "I was thoughtless and I hurt you. I don't expect forgiveness, but I want you to know I'm really sorry."
As James spoke, his eyes held a raw sincerity that tugged at your heartstrings. The hurt remained, but you found yourself softening, unable to resist the depth of emotion in his gaze. Your own feelings for him, buried deep within, began to stir, making forgiveness a more feasible option.
"You did hurt me, James," you admitted, your voice barely above a whisper. "But..." You hesitated, your resolve faltering as emotions swirled within you. His eyes, filled with remorse, seemed to tug your emotions. "I appreciate the apology. And I... I forgive you."
Meanwhile, Sirius and Remus tried to lighten the mood by engaging everyone in different activities. Yet, in the corner where you and James stood, the emotions were palpable, the unspoken tension slowly dissolving with your admission.
Conversations flowed more easily throughout the evening, punctuated by shared smiles and lingering gazes between you and James.
Beneath the surface, an unspoken understanding seemed to grow between you and James, sparking a flicker of hope for reconciliation.
Remus and Sirius settled into a quiet couple, minding their own business. You took the moment to excuse yourself to avoid anymore awkwardness. You’ve never been in the situation without being so all up in James’ business. James watched you leave, a mix of relief and gratitude evident in his eyes.
…
ii - jealousy
“What do you guys think of Cassius Flintwood?” James broke the silence at his table. His friends looked up from their work, giving James a puzzled expression.
“Nothing. Other than he’s probably the saving grace of Ravenclaw’s abomination quidditch team.” Sirius shrugged.
“Yeah, that. And he tutors Marlene, oh and Y/n— wait, are you asking cause you’re seeing him tutoring Y/n?”
Sirius gasps, immediately turning around to see where James’ eyes are making intense eye contact to. “Prongs, you’re jealous. Christ, this is perfect! Might as well just go get drinks right now, cause we’ve won!”
James rolls his eyes, head making contact with the wooden table as he lays his head down. “Shut up, Pads. I’m not jealous, jus’ asking.”
“Mhm. Definitely.” Remus chuckles.
“I’m so confused with everything. I apologized to her, we’re good. Why’s she .. I dunno, distancing herself still?”
“You dimwit.” Sirius says with a hint of shock, his hand slapping the top of James’ head. “You have a big ego James Potter. D’you honestly think she’d just go back to obsessing over you?”
James lifts his head up and rolls his eyes “No, that’s not what I meant. Just—“
“Look, mate,” Remus interferes, “If you’re that bothered by her and Cassius just go over there and study with them. Sure he won’t mind.”
“What? I can’t do that.”
Sirius narrows his eyes, “So you’re admitting that it does bother you?”
“No! She’s just having a tutoring session.” A tutoring session that involves Cassius touching her arm and making her laugh. She’s probably not learning anything right now. James’ annoying head thinks.
“Then stop looking at them.” Sirius warns.
“Y’know what, I’m tired. Might just fit a nap in before my late classes.” He begins to stand and collect his things. Just before putting everything inside his satchel, an idea pops into mind.
James glances at the thick Potions book beside him along with other books stacked below it. He lays his hand flat on the wooden surface and gives it a small shove, making the stack of books clattering on the floor and making a loud echo throughout the library.
Sirius just scoffs at his friends’ action, meanwhile a smile plays at Remus’ lips, clearly understanding the dumb little trick that James has just performed.
In a second, your eyes landed on James for almost the tenth time. When you see him finally collecting all the books from the floor, you make eye contact. His face is red, a hint of embarrassment showing on his cheeks. A small smile twitches on your lips, trying not to let it show to James.
James kept a steady hand in the table and lifted himself up, quickly putting his books inside his satchel and making haste of his exit from the library.
“Think we’ve got this bet in the bag, Pads.” Remus says.
…
iii - realisation
The Quidditch pitch resonated with the energy of practice, but James's mind was elsewhere as he maneuvered through the air on his broom. Sirius watched from the sidelines, unable to ignore James's distracted flying.
"Oi, Prongs, you’re flying like you’ve got a Bludger lodged in your head. What’s going on?” Sirius remarked, concern etched into his tone.
James landed his broom, "Just not in the zone today, I guess," he muttered, trying to downplay his disarray.
Sirius crossed his arms, gaze unwavering. "It's about Y/n, isn't it?"
James faltered, caught off guard by Sirius' directness. "Maybe," he admitted, a tinge of regret lacing his words.
Sirius arched an eyebrow, probing gently. "You miss her, don't you?"
James sighed, the weight of his unresolved feelings palpable. "It's more than that, Sirius. I've been a complete prat to her all these years," he confessed, his voice tinged with remorse.
Sirius's expression softened, understanding dawning in his eyes. "You mean treating her like a pest?"
James nodded, guilt weighing heavily on him. "Exactly. I never gave her a chance and, Christ, I feel awful for it. She's been nothing but a good friend, maybe a tad obsessive but .. I've been too blind to see it."
“It’s fine, mate. Least you’ve figured it out now. Who knew the waffle incident would’ve caused this, huh?”
"I dunno though,” James admitted, a mix of regret and uncertainty clouding his thoughts. "It's like realizing something you should have known all along."
Sirius gave his friend a coy smile, "Give yourself time, mate. Just remember, she's not going anywhere. Maybe it's a good thing to figure it out now, yeah?"
James nodded, a mix of emotions swirling within him. With Sirius's encouragement, James readied himself to get back on his broom.
…
iv - confession
The first thing James saw when he entered the common room was you. Sat there in your too big sweater and a book huddled in your lap. His heart beats nervously as he walks closer to try and calm himself down.
“Y/n!" James greeted, trying to hide the hint of nerves in his voice.
You glanced up from your book, smiling warmly at his approach. "Hey.”
Taking a seat beside you, James fiddled with the sleeve of his robe, trying to find the right words. "I've been doing a lot of thinking lately. Reflecting, you know?" he started, eyes darting to meet yours.
You raised an eyebrow, curious about where this was going. "Reflecting about what?"
James let out a small chuckle, trying to lighten the mood. "Well, you see, I've had this knack for making a right mess of things. Especially when it comes to... certain people."
Your lips curved into a small smile, sensing the playful tone in his words. "Certain people?”
"Right, so I've been a bit dim, maybe blind even. Overlooked something that's been there all along."
"James Potter, are you about to confess your undying love for someone?"
James laughed, a touch of color rising to his cheeks. That laugh that you could get high on no matter the situation. Well, it's not quite as dramatic as that, but..." James took a breath, looking straight into your eyes. "Maybe I've been a bit of a fool. Y/n, you uh … , are more than just a friend to me. You're, uh, rather important."
Your smile widened, realizing the sincerity behind his playful demeanor. "Oh really? Important, am I?" You teased lightly.
He nodded, his smile widening. "Yeah, you are. I guess what I'm trying to say is... I rather like having you around, you know?"
Your smile softened, this was the moment you’ve dreamt for probably millions of times. Truthfully it wasn’t as dramatic as you’d expect. But having to see James in his awkwardness, words falling clumsily from his mouth and making eye contact with you, it was a moment you’d dream of. That was how much you were in love with the boy.
"As long as you mean it, Potter."

Jealousy
Master List <3 Request List <3 Marauders Master List
Remus Lupin x Reader
A/n: this started strong but I started to loose it towards the end tbh
Summary: You and Remus hate each other, but what happens when he sees you with someone else?
Warnings: fake dating, swearing, jealousy obi, kinda ooc, Slytherin reader, reader wears a dress
Word Count: 3244
( NOT MY GIF )
"You need to add rosemary and oak bark professor." Remus answered Slughorn with a smug smirk on his face as the teacher praised him.
It was an obvious answer he just happened to put his hand up quicker.
"Okay last question, this one's a little tougher. What are the main ingredients in a wit sharpening potion?" Slughorn asked causing both me and Remus to shoot our hands into the air.
He looked between the two of us for a second before nodding toward me.
"Scarab beetles, ginger roots, armadillo bile and newt spines sir." I say with a smile, watching Remus roll his eyes as I smile at him.
"Well done Miss L/n, ten points to Slytherin."
A mix of groans and cheers echoed the room as the class was dismissed.
I gathered my books up into my arms and wandered out of the classroom.
I was looking down at my notes as I felt myself bump into a sweater covered chest, my notes and books falling to the floor.
"Crap." I dropped down onto my knees to try and gather the books and loose parchment without looking at who I bumped into.
"Look where your going Jesus,"
I rolled my eyes at his comment, of course it's Remus I walked into. He helped me gather the rest of the stuff before giving me another cocky smile.
"Haven't you got anything to say to me?" He said with a smirk, leaning against the stone wall.
"No? What are you talking about?"
"A thank you maybe? Considering after you rudely ran into me I still stopped to help you."
I scoffed slightly and just looked at him dumbfounded.
"Cmon then, I'm waiting."
I rolled my eyes again.
"My knight in shining armour, thank you so much for taking a minute to pull your head out of your own arse to help me. Appreciate it." I scrunched my nose at him whilst plastering an obviously fake smile across my face.
He chuckled slightly and stood up straight again.
"Your welcome sweetheart."
He laughed again and stopped for a second as if he was going to ask me something before just walking past me, causing me to inhale angrily before walking in the other direction angrily.
Me and Remus had always bumped heads during our time in Hogwarts, him being the smartest in Gryffindor and me the brightest in Slytherin theres always been some competition between the two of us.
His fake shyness paired with his cocky personality made my blood boil and I wasn't exactly the easiest person to get along with, I was aware I was a stubborn smart arse.
I made my way to the library, wanting to get ahead of the homework Slughorn just set.
I find my way to my usual table in the back corner of the room, sprawling my parchment and books over the table as I began work on my essay.
After a long hour of uninterrupted working I jumped as someone pulled out the chair next to me, snapping me out of my focus.
I look up to see James Potters smiling face looking at me, causing me to laugh slightly.
Me and James got along surprisingly well despite his hatred towards Slytherins and us both being captains to opposing Quidditch teams.
"To what do I owe the pleasure?" I ask with a laugh, putting my quill down as I turned my attention to the curly haired boy.
"I have a favour to ask." He said with an awkward laugh, fiddling with his glasses.
"Should I be scared?"
"A little bit, it's a strange one."
I quirked an eyebrow at him, gesturing him to continue.
"Will you pretend to be my date for the ball?"
I laughed and shook my head slightly "Why on earth would you want me to do that?"
"I overheard Lily say she wanted to go alone so I wanted to take someone else. Y'know, try and show her what she's missing." He awkwardly fiddled with his fingers whilst speaking, despite his normal confidence he always got awkward talking about Lily.
"I don't get how that would change her mind on you, surely you should just speak to her."
"You think I haven't tried a million times? She doesn't want to hear it, I just need one shot to show her what she's missing, and that I'm not always going to be waiting around for her."
I gave the defeated boy a small smile and sighed slightly as I braced myself for what I was about to say.
"Okay maybe. What's in it for me? I was supposed to be going with Reg as friends but I don't think he was too keen on going anyway."
His face lit up as he sat up in his chair happily "Really? I'll give you my word that you can have the Friday morning training slot for the rest of the year. Promise."
I smiled at that, enthusiastically nodding.
The Gryffindor and Slytherin team have been constantly fighting over who gets that practice spot all year, it's the best time to practice and James' friendship with the coach got him an unfair advantage.
"Deal."
"Thank you so much, I promise to be the perfect gentleman."
I laughed softly at him, rolling my eyes at his sarcasm.
"Does that mean I have to spend all night with your friends?" I asked with a small groan, causing him to chuckle lightly.
It's not that I hated the so called marauders, or most of them anyway. But my friendship with Regulus stops me and Sirius from ever being very close and spending any time with Remus made my blood boil.
Peter was a sweetheart though.
"Unfortunately for you yes, I'll tell Remus to be on his best behaviour though, promise."
"I'm shocked he's onboard with this, seems like such a stupid plan he'd talk you out of it." I say with a small laugh, picking up with quill again to twirl between my fingers.
"Oh he doesn't know. No one can know or it won't work. I love them but those idiots would give it away in seconds."
I nodded slightly, makes sense the three of them weren't exactly the most inconspicuous people.
"Okay well you've got yourself a deal. I'll see you on Saturday."
He smirked at me as he stood from his chair, hugging me for a second from behind my chair.
"Seriously I can't thank you enough. I'll see you at the great hall at eight."
I smiled up at him with a small nod.
~~~~
I play with my hair in the mirror, feeling like I couldn't get it to sit just right no matter what I did.
"I don't get why you care so much about how you look, it's not like you actually like the guy." Regulus said from the other side of the dorm where he sat on the edge of my bed.
"It's not about James, I just want to look nice it's a ball." I smoothed down my long green dress again before turning to fix my lipstick.
"Hmmm sure, or is there another certain Gryffindor that your trying to impress?" Regulus said with a snort.
"I have no idea what your implying."
"Yes you do. Lupin this, Lupin that, your smitten with the boy." He said with a laugh.
I scoffed, turning my attention away from my reflection to the dark haired boy.
"I have no idea what you mean, I hate Remus with every inch of me. He vexes me."
"Yeah sure, you can't deny that you like him a little. He's all you talk about."
I rolled my eyes at him again before going back to finishing how I looked.
"Talking about him and complaining about him are two completely different things so zip it. Okay I think I'm ready to go."
I couldn't lie a part of me understood where he's coming from, which was obvious to Reg as he laughed at the obvious blush that had covered my face.
It's not like I'd say I was in love with the boy, but I can't deny that every time we argue, debate or on the rare occasion engage in academic discussions, my heart always skips a beat.
And a very very very small part of me sort of hoped that it's not just Lily that got jealous tonight.
Regulus jumped up from the bed and offered his arm out to me.
"Let me escort you to your date, make sure he's treating you right."
I snorted at him and threaded my arm through his as we walked out of the dormitory's and up to the great hall.
My hands were a little shaky as I took a few deep breaths.
I understood that this stunt James wants to pull is going to draw a lot of attention, it's the last thing people would expect not to mention that gossip spreads around here and the awareness of all the attention that was about to be on me was spiking some anxiety.
Regulus leaned into my ear as we approached the hall,
"Don't worry, you look beautiful. Everyone's going to be jealous."
I smile at him and stop to give him a brief hug before looking over my shoulder to where James stood at the entrance of the hall.
I took another deep breath before nodding goodbye the Regulus and walking over to James.
He offered out his hand as I approached, pulling me closer to him.
"Don't worry, we've got this. You ready?"
His confidence caused a smile to creep onto my face as I nodded.
"Ready as I'll ever be."
As we walked into the great hall I could feel eyes on the back of my head, the two of us was a completely shocking thing I guess, James has always been so outwardly smitten with Lily nobody would ever expect him to show up with anyone else.
James led us towards the back of the great hall where I could see the other marauders stood around a table chatting, they smiled and waved as they saw James approaching, their expressions all changing slighting as they saw me on his arm.
Peter smiled wildly as I waved at him "Y/n hey! You look amazing."
I smiled back at him with a little laugh "Thanks Peter, you look wonderful as well."
I saw Sirius quirk an eyebrow from the corner of my eye before he cleared his throat to get our attention.
"James this is your surprise date?"
James nodded, giving Sirius a 'behave yourself' look.
"Yes, this is Y/n L/n, I don't think you two have properly met."
I smiled awkwardly at Sirius, hoping he wouldn't freak out on me because of my friendship with Regulus but the boy just smiled sweetly at me, pulling me into a short hug.
"It's nice to finally meet you, I hear your friends with that brother of mine."
I nodded slightly "Me and Reggie are close yes."
He clenched his jaw slightly and nodded back at me "It's nice to know there's someone looking out for him."
I notice Remus leaning against the wall next to Sirius being uncharacteristically quiet for him, he was stood with his arms crossed looking at me with an unreadable expression I hadn't seen on him before.
I hate to admit it but over the past few years of knowing him I've picked up on smaller habits of his. For example when he genuinely smiles his lips sit lopsided to the left, and when he's laughing he always throws his head back a little. When he was stressed he'd pull his hair, and when he was angry or frustrated he'd normally grip a pen in his fist and clench his jaw so hard it sometimes looked as if he was physically biting his tongue to stop himself from speaking out.
But this expression was something I hadn't seen from him before, he was intensely looking straight at me almost as if he was shocked but also with a small smile on his face which I'd never seen directed toward me.
I smiled at him as I looked over, causing him to look away and go back to the usual monotone expression I was used to from him.
If it wasn't the fact I was talking about Remus Lupin I'd say he almost looked in awe.
"Remus you didn't end up bringing a date?" James asked from behind me, causing his friends head to snap up from the spot on the floor he'd turned to.
"Hm? No I didn't ask her after all, decided it wasn't going to work out anyway."
James gave him a sympathetic smile and Sirius snickered from next to him, causing Remus to nudge him hard with his elbow.
"What about you Sirius? Flying solo?" I asked, trying to make myself included within the friend group.
Sirius laughed and shook his head "I always do these kinda things as a bachelor Y/n, it would break everyone's heart if I tied myself down to one person."
James laughed slightly and shook his head at his friend "On that note, care to dance Y/n?"
I nodded back at him and took a deep breath "Might as well put on a bit of a show since everyone's looking anyway."
He laughed at me and took my hand, leading me onto the dance floor.
We swayed back and forth together to the waltz music with some laughs as neither of us could take it seriously.
I could see Remus from over James's shoulder, he was looking directly at us with a cold expression.
It mirrored his usual habits he showed when he was angry but there was something else about it as well, I had no idea what was wrong with him but it was puzzling me that I couldn't read him as easily as I normally could.
As James spun me around I caught a glimpse of Lily stood on the other side of the room, her expression mirroring Remus's.
As the song neared to an end James bent down to my ear "I think it's working, she looks jealous. Would you mind if I kissed you? Just to put the nail in the coffin."
I looked at him for a second before nodded slightly.
He smiled at me before leaning down to plant a soft kiss on my lips.
It wasn't bad, he was gentle and soft but neither of us really wanted it and the awkwardness was obvious.
He pulled away suddenly and as I opened my eyes I saw Remus pulling James away by the sleeve of his jacket.
"Outside, now." Remus said as he pulled James out of the room, leaving me stood there alone with half the room staring at me.
I looked around awkwardly not knowing what to do before I felt someone touch my shoulders.
"Care to dance?" Sirius asked with a charming smile, taking my hands.
I took a deep breath and gave him a thankful smile. "Thank you so much."
He nodded and swayed to the side with me "I wouldn't let a beautiful woman stand alone unlike my idiot friends."
~ Remus's pov ~
"What's wrong?" James asked as I pulled him over to a quiet corner or the hallway.
"What the hell is wrong with you?!"
"What are you talking about?"
"What are you doing with Y/n? What happened to Lily? Since when did you even like Y/n?" I huffed at him, angrily balling my hands up.
I was supposed to take her, I was going to ask her but every time I tried I just couldn't get the words out, going for a cheap jab at her instead.
I've had a crush on her for the last year, our arguments after class was becoming one of the driving forces for the effort I was putting in and our little interactions somehow always managed to make my day.
I was stunned when I saw her in the Hall, she looked gorgeous and I went to compliment her. I finally gathered the courage to say something and then James put his arm around her.
It's always been Lily for him, just like it's always been Y/n for me. So what the hell was he doing.
"She agreed to come with me to make Lily jealous, I gave her the Quittich field on Fridays if she came with me. Why are you so bothered?" He furrowed his eyebrows at me, placing his hands on my shoulders to slow the pacing I didn't even realise I was doing.
"Oh." Shit I've made it so obvious "I was just worried you were making a mistake that's all."
He looked at me for another second before he connected the dots, his confused expression turning to shock.
"Merlin it's Y/n you were going to bring? You like her! Why didn't you tell us we couldn't helped you!"
"Shh your shouting, she might hear you."
He grinned excitedly at me.
"Remus you like her, that's so out of character for you. Why didn't you ask her?"
I shrugged at him "She hates me, she would've said no anyway."
He shook his head at me with a chuckle "God your both so stupid, she was staring at you all night. Just tell her how you feel, you might be shocked."
"What tell her how I feel so she can laugh at me? We might not be friends but I don't want to ruin the little interactions we do have. If she shot me down it would change everything, I don't want to loose her."
"You like me?"
The timid voice coming from next to us caused me and James to both spin around quickly, seeing Y/n and Sirius stood a few feet from us.
Y/n looking insanely confused and Sirius trying to keep his laughter as quiet as possible.
"This is such a shit show." He said with a laugh, causing Y/n to back hand his shoulder, still looking at me with an unreadable expression.
James rolled his eyes "Sirius maybe we should give them some privacy and go find Peter Hm?"
I looked at him with a silent thank you as he dragged a still laughing Sirius back into the Great Hall.
"You like me?" She repeated, walking to stand where James previously was.
I awkwardly tugged at my sleeves with a sigh, not knowing how to respond.
"I know it's stupid okay, I understand that you hate me and this is probably hilarious but yeah I think I do. I don't mean to be so mean to you I just don't know how to talk to you and I was going to ask you to be my date tonight but I whimped out and you probably don't care anyways but I think your the most brilliant, intelligent, beautiful and funny person I've ever met and-"
My rambling was cut off when I felt her hand touch the side of my face, the tips of her fingers going into my hair as I lent into her touch.
"Are you want to just kiss me or keep talking?" She asked with a giggle causing me to laugh a little bit as well.
"I think I'm gonna go with kiss."
She nodded with another laugh "Right as always Remus."
I admired her face for another second with a smile before finally leaning down.
Canon Sirius through quotes
Part 2. Intelligence and recklessness. Sirius Black (and James Potter, with a bit of Remus and Peter too)
Or who is the smartest of the Marauders?
Sirius and James are described multiple times as exceptionally intelligent. They didn’t need help from Remus or Lily to pass their exams. James didn’t envy Sirius for being ahead academically, and Sirius didn’t ask Remus for help. They could handle everything on their own.
For example, McGonagall rarely gives praise without good reason. Here are her words about James (often unfairly depicted as less intelligent than Sirius or Remus) and Sirius:
‘Precisely,’ said Professor McGonagall. ‘Black and Potter. Ringleaders of their little gang. Both very bright, of course – exceptionally bright, in fact – but I don’t think we’ve ever had such a pair of troublemakers –’
Being "exceptionally bright" is an extremely high praise for intellectual ability from McGonagall.
As for Peter, she speaks rather average of him:
‘Pettigrew... that fat little boy who was always tagging around after them at Hogwarts?’ said Madam Rosmerta. ‘Hero-worshipped Black and Potter,’ said Professor McGonagall. ‘Never quite in their league, talent-wise. I was often rather sharp with him. You can imagine how I – how I regret that now...’ She sounded as though she had a sudden head cold.
Moreover, Peter "was always hopeless at duelling," according to McGonagall. This means that over 7 years, Peter failed to impress McGonagall with his academic achievements. As the head of his house, she was aware of all his grades. Perhaps he was just an average student, but then it's unclear why McGonagall was "often rather sharp with him." She doesn't seem like the type to be sharp over trivial matters.
Slughorn:
‘Well, anyway, he (Sirius) was a big pal of your father’s at school. The whole Black family had been in my house, but Sirius ended up in Gryffindor! Shame – he was a talented boy. I got his brother Regulus when he came along, but I’d have liked the set.’
While Lupin’s words might be biased, he often speaks quite judiciously about people around him, thus:
"Look, Harry, what you’ve got to understand is that your father and Sirius were the best in the school at whatever they did – everyone thought they were the height of cool – if they sometimes got a bit carried away –"
He confirms that Sirius and James were the best at everything in school. Meaning academically first of all, because school is primarily about studying.
"It took them the best part of three years to work out how to do it. Your father and Sirius here were the cleverest students in the school, and lucky they were, because the Animagus transformation can go horribly wrong – one reason the Ministry keeps a close watch on those attempting to do it."
And a bit more praise from Lupin towards Sirius and James' giftedness. They were both gifted – Sirius and James.
Even Dumbledore acknowledges:
‘Sirius told me all about how they became Animagi last night,’ said Dumbledore, smiling. ‘An extraordinary achievement – not least, keeping it quiet from me.’
So, not only did they become Animagi (Peter wasn’t much help, according to Lupin), created the Marauder's Map, which contained very unusual magic (they, of course, all created the Map together, but based on the description above, I can assume that the main magical component of the map was the responsibility of James and Sirius), excelled in their studies, created a magical FaceTime – an artefact for communication among themselves, they also managed to keep a lot from the school's headmaster and other teachers. Intelligence plus cunning.
Sirius and James' reaction to others' "stupidity":
‘How thick are you, Wormtail?’ said James impatiently. ‘You run round with a werewolf once a month –’
‘Keep your voice down,’ implored Lupin.
‘Well, I thought that paper was a piece of cake,’ he heard Sirius say. ‘I’ll be surprised if I don’t get “Outstanding” on it at least.’
‘Me too,’ said James.
Here, I don’t want to dwell on their rudeness, but rather on the reaction itself. Often Lupin is seen studying more than anyone (I too like to see him buried in books), but perhaps Lupin simply needed to study more to pass his exams. He buried himself in textbooks not because he was the smartest, but because it was necessary for him. Remus is clearly not dumb; he became a professor at Hogwarts, he’s also described as intelligent in the canon, but things came much easier to James and Sirius, and they were well aware of how smart they were. Hence their reaction. When a teenager is confident in their superiority, and their intellect is often validated by external factors (grades, teachers' praise), such a reaction from James and Sirius, considering their personalities, is quite expected for their still maturing characters.
‘We’ve still got Transfiguration, if you’re bored you could test me. Here...’ and he (Lupin) held out his book.
But Sirius snorted. ‘I don’t need to look at that rubbish, I know it all.’
Sirius' reaction is unequivocal. He doesn’t need to read anything like Lupin, memorising paragraphs. To him, it’s all "rubbish" that he already knows. Sirius likely had a very good long-term memory.
Sirius' memory and attention to detail even after 12 years in Azkaban are also quite remarkable.
"Congratulations on getting past the Horntail, whoever put your name in that Goblet shouldn’t be feeling too happy right now! I was going to suggest a Conjunctivitis curse, as a dragon’s eyes are its weakest point –"
‘That’s what Krum did!’ Hermione whispered.
Clearly, during his 12 years in Azkaban, he didn’t need this knowledge. It’s unlikely he ever used this knowledge in practice. But he remembered it, ready to mention it right away, not having peeked in any books. Even Hermione didn’t know.
‘My God,’ said Lupin softly, staring from Scabbers to the picture in the paper and back again.
‘His front paw...’
‘What about it?’ said Ron defiantly.
‘He’s got a toe missing,’ said Black.
And this is about his attentiveness. To notice that a rat is missing a toe from a small photograph while sitting in Azkaban… I wouldn’t have noticed even without Azkaban.
As for adult Sirius, the fourth book shows many of Sirius' reasonable assumptions that eventually are confirmed. What people mistake for stupidity is his recklessness, as well as his willingness to die for those he loves, to protect them at any cost. His recklessness is usually related to this.
‘The Ministry’s forced through another decree, which means we’re not allowed to have Quidditch teams –’
‘Or secret Defence Against the Dark Arts groups?’ said Sirius. There was a short pause.
‘How did you know about that?’ Harry demanded.
‘You want to choose your meeting places more carefully,’ said Sirius, grinning even more broadly.
‘The Hog’s Head, I ask you.’
‘Well, it was better than the Three Broomsticks!’ said Hermione defensively. ‘That’s always packed with people –’
‘Which means you’d have been harder to overhear,’ said Sirius. ‘You’ve got a lot to learn, Hermione.’
Hermione is very smart, but Sirius immediately explains their tactical mistake. But it still sounds somewhat condescending.
‘But, Sirius, this is taking an awful risk –’ Hermione began.
‘You sound like Molly,’ said Sirius. ‘This was the only way I could come up with answering Harry’s letter without resorting to a code – and codes are breakable.’
It might seem reckless, but he's right, codes can be cracked. And he really wanted to reply to his godson – it's more about his inability to refuse the only living person he loves now and his desire to protect him.
Sirius repeatedly makes correct deductions in the fourth book, here are a couple of examples, but generally, the fourth book is full of rational remarks, assumptions, and overall, he's ready to provide Harry with information, especially in the fifth book, when Harry is having the toughest time and most people simply refuse to tell him anything.
‘Yeah, and Dumbledore said it happened whenever Voldemort was feeling a powerful emotion,’ said Harry, ignoring, as usual, Ron and Hermione’s winces. ‘So maybe he was just, I dunno, really angry or something the night I had that detention.’
‘Well, now he’s back it’s bound to hurt more often,’ said Sirius.
‘So you don’t think it had anything to do with Umbridge touching me when I was in detention with her?’ Harry asked.
‘I doubt it,’ said Sirius. ‘I know her by reputation and I’m sure she’s no Death Eater –’
‘Now, I’ve been keeping an eye on the Daily Prophet, Harry –’
‘You and the rest of the world,’ said Harry bitterly.
‘– and, reading between the lines of that Skeeter woman’s article last month, Moody was attacked the night before he started at Hogwarts. Yes, I know she says it was another false alarm,’ Sirius said hastily, seeing Harry about to speak, ‘but I don’t think so, somehow. I think someone tried to stop him getting to Hogwarts. I think someone knew their job would be a lot more difficult with him around. And no one’s going to look into it too closely, Mad-Eye’s heard intruders a bit too often. But that doesn’t mean he can’t still spot the real thing. Moody was the best Auror the Ministry ever had.’
And much more.
For Harry in the fourth and fifth books, Sirius became the one who supported him and provided information, and all his attempts to break through to Harry, risking being caught – this is an expression of love and desire to help his godson. It's precisely in such moments that his recklessness is revealed – when he wants to help.
Moreover Sirius often gives Harry good advice, there is just one example:
‘Don’t lose your temper,’ said Sirius abruptly. ‘Be polite and stick to the facts.’
‘Good luck,’ said Lupin.
‘I’m sure it will be fine.’ ‘And if it’s not,’ said Sirius grimly, ‘I’ll see to Amelia Bones for you...’
Here's the interweaving of Sirius' rationality and recklessness. He knows the right way. But he himself is ready to throw himself into the line of fire. He never gave Harry impulsive advice. But when it comes to himself or when someone needs protecting, Sirius has a different standard of normalcy.
In conclusion, throughout the series, Sirius makes a number of insightful remarks, and his intelligence and giftedness are exceptionally highly regarded by Dumbledore, McGonagall, and Lupin. I wouldn’t attribute his pathological desire to help those he loves to stupidity. Furthermore, adult Sirius shows recklessness mainly when it concerns his own safety and life — he doesn't cherish his own life if it means the well-being of someone he loves, thus he readily throws himself into danger.
Sirius was a brave, clever and energetic man, and such men are not usually content to sit at home in hiding while they believe others to be in danger. (Dumbledore)
every time i see someone say that something is cannon when it isn't a piece of my soul dies so here are some things that are constantly stated as being cannon but aren't
Barty Crouch Jr being a Ravenclaw
No where in cannon is this stated. He did get 12 owls and was very smart but his Hogwarts House is never said. People say this is cannon because if you google what house Barty was from a wikipedia page comes up stating that he was in Ravenclaw. Again, it is never said on any cannon piece of text
Evan Rosier has a younger brother called Felix
Felix Rosier is a cannon character and appears in the Hogwarts Mystery game, but nowhere in the game does it say what his relation to Evan is. He could've been a cousin or nephew
Barty Crouch Jr was abused by his father
All we know about Barty Jr relationship with his father is that Barty didn't like him and according to Sirius that Barty Sr should've spent more time with his son. This is like neglect at the very very worst but even that is stretching it a little. In reality it's much more likely that the reason why Barty Jr hates his father so much is because his father is part of the justice system and works at the ministry and Barty Jr is a war criminal
The Order of the Phoenix was manipulated by Dumbledore into joining and full of children
The only cannon ages we have from the Order members are The Marauders and they were at least 19 when they joined. Young? yes but not children and not too young to not understand what joining a war entails. Also Dumbledore did not manipulate anyone into joining. Every member joined because they wanted to
Remus Lupin was the smartest Marauders
Remus was the best behaved and possibly most mature Marauder. Not the smartest. There's a difference.
Regulus Black was born in June
He doesn't have a cannon birthday. The website that appears when you google when his birthday was is a fan made one that also says he married Hestia Jones
Regulus Black figured out the Horcruxes all on his own
He didn't. He had Kreacher, who told him about the cave and the locket and what Voldemort made Kreacher do to hide the locket. Kreacher was also the one who helped Regulus get to the cave and get as far as he did. Give Kreacher the credit he deserves. All Regulus did was figure out what the locket really was and swapped them.
Evan Rosier was the one who took Mad Eye Moodys eye
This one is depending on what you consider to be cannon. In the books Evan is said to had taken part of Mad Eyes nose. In the films it's his eye.
that's all i can think of for now. i'll probably have more in a day or two
#also just noticed that a lot of these are about evan barty and regulus#and honestly that doesn't suprise me considering how their fans portray them#the marauders#harry potter#the marauders era#marauders#evan rosier#barty crouch jr#regulus black#remus lupin#albus dumbledore#rosekiller#felix rosier#mad eye moody
"how's my favourite girl doing?" sirius talks as he puts an arm over your shoulders, just as james takes the book out of your hands.
"sirius black and james potter talking to me when we're not at a pureblood party? what's happening?"
"don't be mean, you know we love you" james replies, putting the book behind his back, so you wouldn't be able to get it even if sirius let you go.
"we realised we rarely talk to you, which is sad because you're one of the only pureblood people we actually like" sirius then lets you go to play with your hair as he talks.
"so, we wanted to invite you to the party we're throwing tonight, at the gryffindor common room" james says, but he quickly looks behind you and his friend.
"you invite me to a party, so we can talk?" you ask, taking advantage of james' sudden distraction when regulus walks past to take your book back.
"yes, we want to get to know you" sirius is the one who talks now, unaware of the reason his friend suddenly stopped talking
"okay, i'll see you there" you tell them, walking away.
"what? really? was it that easy?" sirius asks, shocked.
"yes, i'll see you there, bye"
‧₊˚ 🌕⋅♡𓂃 ࣪ ִֶָ☾.
"they don't know that you always go to the parties?" lily asks as she puts on her earrings, looking on your mirror.
"i tend to hide from them" you tell them from your bed.
"why?" she questions, you shrug, unable to give her an answer.
‧₊˚ 🌕⋅♡𓂃 ࣪ ִֶָ☾.
"so, what's your type?" sirius finds you while you were choosing something to drink.
"what?" you ask him, accepting the drink he recommends you.
"what kind of person do you like, men, women, tall, short?"
"tall skinny men with messy mullets, when it looks like they'll break if you breathe too hard on them?" sirius' eyes seem to light up with your answer.
‧₊˚ 🌕⋅♡𓂃 ࣪ ִֶָ☾.
"she's just like you, she likes books and stuff, i swear you'll like her" sirius insists, following remus through the hall, heading to the library.
"books and stuff? that's all you know about me?"
"i'm telling you i found your soulmate and you care about that?"
"yes."
‧₊˚ 🌕⋅♡𓂃 ࣪ ִֶָ☾.
you were in the library, focused on your book when three people sat on your table. you look up to find sirius, james and who you know is called remus, maybe your eyes focus on the last one for a bit when sirius talks.
"we need help" he says, pulling out a book.
"what?" you ask, uninterested in anything they have to say.
"we need help, you're like the smartest person we know" this time james is the one who talks.
"and why would i help you?"
"because you're a good person?" you don't change your expression "and we'll buy you chocolate the next time we go to hogsmeade"
"help with what?" this time, the boy that caught your eye talks.
"we need to learn how to do this charm" he points to the book, and maybe you look at his hand before reading the words he's pointing to. you also notice how sirius and james smile when remus talks.
"why would you need to know how to turn someone's clothes pink, permanently?" you ask, they all look at each other before looking at you. you sigh "why would i know how to do this?"
"i'd quite fall in love with you if you did" sirius talks. "but you're smart, you'll be able to learn it" you start packing your things. "is that a yes?"
"what do i win?" you ask, already standing.
"chocolate" you start to walk away, leaving the book there. "we'll give you alcohol at the next pureblood party" you smile before grabbing the book.
"i'll tell you as soon as i get it"
they all hear you say goodbye to peter before he sits.
"why did she talk to you?" james asks.
"we're friends?" peter explains, getting started with his homework.
"soooo… do you like her?" sirius asks remus, who just rolls his eyes before getting up.
‧₊˚ 🌕⋅♡𓂃 ࣪ ִֶָ☾.
the next time he sees you, you're walking to him, who's reading at the library. you put the book with the charm before him, and quickly sit besides him.
"i know how to do the charm… " you wait for him to introduce himself.
"remus, remus lupin" he answers, putting his book aside.
"remus, right" you talk, like you didn't know his name before.
you explain how to do it, and after he gets the theory right, all there's left to do is practise it.
"i'll do one of his socks and you'll do the other one" you point at snape, who has glared at you since you've been here.
"i didn't expect you to be like this" remus says, smiling, before slowly pulling out his wand.
"what did you expect?"
"i don't know, sirius and james don't usually talk about you"
"i wonder why" you smile, before quietly charming one of snape's socks, turning it bright pink. "your turn"
remus copies your actions, successfully turning snape's left sock pink. you look at each other, quietly laughing, and quickly pack your things so you can walk out before he notices.
you walk next to him in the hallway, though neither of you know where you're going.
"what do you need the charm for?" you ask him.
"we're pranking someone" he explains.
"should i be scared?" you question and he chuckles.
"no, your clothes will be safe"
‧₊˚ 🌕⋅♡𓂃 ࣪ ִֶָ☾.
the next time you talk, he's the one who approaches you.
"can i sit here?" he points at the chair next to you "i want to study but they're being to loud" you nod, and you talk as he sits.
"why don't you do a silent charm on them?" he chuckles.
"they'll find a way to be even louder"
and that's how it starts, neither of you know why, but since then, we you enter the library, you immediately look for each other.
‧₊˚ 🌕⋅♡𓂃 ࣪ ִֶָ☾.
"you're the one who did that research on werewolves aren't you? teachers don't stop talking about how good it is" some guy asks you as he stands in front of you, the table in between you two.
"yes" he was one of those pureblood guys, who only cared about their status.
"you didn't talk about them being bad people" you stare at him, trying to find out why he's telling you that. "i just thought you'd like someone to tell you about your mistake"
"it's not a mistake, they aren't bad people" you tell him.
"well, then you're wrong, they're obviously bad" he rolls his eyes, like it's obvious that he's right.
"did you just come here to talk shit about werewolves?" you focus on your homework, mentally aiming in case you have to throw something at him.
"no, i came here to see if you were a respectable pureblood, but let me guess, you fight for elves' rights too?" he seems upset with you, but he doesn't leave, instead, he looks at you like a challenge.
"what, you want me to join your cause too and fight for arseholes' rights? maybe we should put your face on the banner so they know how one looks" you smile sarcastically at him.
"what is wrong with you? i just wanted to let you know that werewolves are bad and you're being a bitch" he seems actually upset, his superior grin gone now.
"oh, so you were looking out for me? what would I do without people minding my business? now just shut up and maybe look into your prejudices instead of my life" you stop looking at him.
"how can you think that they aren't bad? i thought you were smart" now he seems offended that you aren't like he imagined, but maybe he thinks that he can change you, because he smiles again.
"sorry to disappoint you. and, something can be dangerous but good at the same time, just because they have claws doesn't mean they'd stab you, but maybe a girl who’s been bothered by you will" you say, as his eyes go to the pen on your hands.
“did you just threaten me?” he has the audacity to look offended as he talks.
“i don’t know, did i? a bitch like me wouldn’t know” you smile, faking innocence.
"you’re fucking crazy” he mutters as he turns around.
when he leaves -not before insulting you again-, neither of you notice a certain tall guy, with scars on his face and a knitted sweater standing around a bookcase, listening to all the conversation.
‧₊˚ 🌕⋅♡𓂃 ࣪ ִֶָ☾.
you don’t know how, but james and sirius convinced you to hang out with the marauders, maybe the mention of some boy with honey eyes and a mullet, but still. you find yourself on the gryffindor common room, listening to them as they tell you about their best pranks.
and remus must’ve sensed that you’re cold, because the next thing you know is that hes handing you his sweater.
“what?” you ask him
"you're cold" he shrugs.
"but, what about you?" you question, not taking the sweater.
"i'm fine, just put in on love" you obey, thanking him before looking back at james and peter, acting as you're not noticing sirius' smile.
when you finally get up to go back to your room, while peter, james and sirius are too distracted talking to frank, you take of the sweater and hand it to remus.
"what?" he asks, frowning.
"it's yours"
"you can give it to me other day"
"but i won't need it"
"love, just let me have an excuse to talk to you" he tells you, and you stop for a moment before answering, not believing him.
"you don't need an excuse to talk to me" he smiles.
"keep it anyway"
"if you insist" he kisses your cheek goodbye, and that night you're only thinking about him.
‧₊˚ 🌕⋅♡𓂃 ࣪ ִֶָ☾.
"please just this once" james asks, and it looks like he's actually going to beg you to help them.
"i don't have time for pranks" you walk away, and the four marauders immediately follow you.
"you just need to distract him" sirius talks, walking to stand in front of you.
"and why would i do that?" you ask, going around him.
"because you appreciate our friendship?" this time is peter who talks, and you actually think about it for a second.
"i don't-" before you can finish, remus intervenes.
"love, just this once, okay? then we won't bother you" and you know it's not true, that they will bother you. but every doubt you had disappeared as soon as he talked. so you nod.
"where is he?"
and that's how you find yourself talking to binns, asking him about his class, solving questions you never had.
then you see remus walking towards you, looking so innocent, and you keep nodding at binns, like you're so interested in what he's saying.
when he turns around due to the sound of an explosion that you definitely had no idea about, remus walks next to you, grabbing your hand, and suddenly you're running down the hallway next to him.
“because, certain friends of ours are bothering me" he closes his eyes, his forehead on yours as he talks.
"what if they're not bothering me?" you joke, sarcasm in your tone.
"oh, so you're saying I dragged you into this cupboard?" he pulls away, his hand on his chest as he acts offended.
"yes, i didn't expect this behaviour from you, lupin" he rolls his eyes at the mention of his last name, as you laugh.
"then leave" he challenges, but his hand doesn't let go of yours.
"ok" you say, but you don't move.
when you walk out of the cupboard, both of you hear people talking.
"do you think they're dating?"
"hi" you say, not sure what to do when he puts his head on your chest and closes his eyes.
"hi love" he replies. and after a while he lifts his head, grabs your hand and puts it on his hair.
"what are you doing?" you question him.
"touch my hair" he demands, and you don't, just to mess with him.
"what if i don't want to?" you smile, and he groans.
then, when he notices that you're being serious, he puts his head up once again, this time to glare at you.
he repeats his actions and puts your hand on his hair, and closes his eyes again.
he doesn't answer, instead, he winces when you start cleaning his face.
"remus?" you insist, waiting for an answer
"yes?" he acts oblivious, though it doesn't last much, as you start cleaning his face again, you mutter a quiet sorry before talking again.
"why the fuck did you get into a fight?"
"they were talking sh-" you glare at him.
"lupin"
"last name basis?" he tries to smile at you, but you turn his face to the side so you can look at the bruise forming on his cheek.
"yes, answer" he sighs before talking.
"i told you, they were talking shit" you keep glaring at him until he talks again "they were talking shit about you"
you stop moving for a second, processing the information.
"you got into a fight because they were talking shit about me?"
"yes" he stares at you, waiting for a reaction.
"are you fucking stupid?"
"maybe that wasn't the reaction i expected" he mutters to himself.
"you are actually stupid" you don't talk again, you just focus on cleaning his face, which means he has a lot of time to talk.
"what did you want me to do? i just couldn't stand there as he was saying how you were a bitch and shit like that" he groans when you don't answer "i warned them, i said that if they didn't stop i'd punch them"
"oh, you warned them, how nice" you reply, sarcastically.
"don't be mad at me, please" he wraps his arms around your legs, and puts his head on your stomach.
"what do you want me to do?" you put your hand on his hair.
"i don't care, just don't be mad at me"
"oh, so i should just congratulate you? thank you so much remus for defending me, should i kiss you to show my gratitude?"
"you could kiss me, not because of that, but you could" you don't even acknowledge him as you walk to the bathroom to throw away everything you used to clean his face.
when you come back, he's in front of you, touching your cheek as he talks.
"you're not gonna say anything?" he asks, as you try your best to not look away from his eyes.
"about what?" he chuckles, but doesn't move his hand away from your face.
"about the fact that i said that you could kiss me" you fail your goal, because your eyes immediately go to his lips. and of course, he notices.
"what do you want me to say?" you ask, rolling your eyes at his smirk.
"i think the question is what i want you to do"
"you just got into a fight" you remind him.
"just because you're mad doesn't mean you can't kiss me"
"i know"
and you really know, so you kiss him. and it starts as a sweet kiss, slow, just to prove that it's real. but then one of his hands goes to the back of your neck and the other cups your jaw.
your hands go to the back of his neck, finding balance when he pulls you closer to him.
you pull away for a second, breathing heavily as you look at each other's eyes.
"we shouldn't do this" you remind him.
"i know" he says, slowly walking so you have to walk back.
"i'm still mad at you" you tell him, sitting in your bed, looking up at him.
"i got into a fight because of you and you say that?" he smirks, pushing you so you have no choice but to lie down.
one of his knees rests in between your legs, his hands on both sides of your head. your hands go to the back of his neck again.
"you wound me" he tells you, before kissing your neck.
you had plans today, it was friday and you had no classes after lunch, so you were gonna start getting ready and maybe drinking with the girls before going to the party the gryffindor were hosting.
but those plans got a bit ruined when you got a letter from your family during lunch, which usually meant bad news.
you don't really remember a lot from the letter, all you know is that you had two choices: marrying barty or getting disowned.
after reading the letter, all you can do is put it in your pocket and try to stop the tears coming from your eyes. you don't even look at your friends or at the food that remus put on your plate. instead, you think about the words you just read.
"i have to go" you suddenly get up, grab your things and walk away, not noticing the concerned looks on your friends faces, especially on remus'.
they all stare at you as you walk out the great hall.
you find an empty hall and sit in one of the windows, finally letting out the tears. you don't long how long you stay like that, but suddenly someone walks next to you.
"hey, hey, it's okay, it's okay" all you notice are the tears running down your face, and remus' arms around you. as he holds you and tells you that everything is fine.
once you calm down, he waits a bit to ask
"what happened? do you wanna talk about it?" he asks, and you don't even look at him, not wanting to see the worry in his eyes.
"no, it's okay" he seems disappointed with your answer, but doesn't stop rubbing your back "thank you"
"it's nothing" he tries to find something to say, something to comfort you, but before he can even think of anything, you get up.
"you're going to the party, right?" you look at him, drying your tears.
"are you gonna go?" he asks, frowning.
"yes" he seems a bit surprised, because now you're smiling.
"then yes" you smile even more at his answer.
"i'll see you there" you give him a quick peck on his cheek before walking away.
"hi" he says, standing next to you.
"hi remus" you smile at him, drinking from your now full cup.
"how many of those have you had?" he asks.
"i don't know, seven, maybe eight? who cares" you tell him, holding his hand and dragging him to the dance floor, but he quickly redirects you to one of the sofas.
"i do, you're gonna pass out if you keep drinking" he says as he tries to get the cup from your hand, but you quickly move your hand away and frown.
"i'll be okay"
"no you won't"
"i'm not even that drunk"
"you saw sirius and called him reggie" you smile, remembering the horrified look in sirius' eyes.
"they look alike" you shrug.
"you should stop drinking"
"i'll be okay" he tries to reply, tries to tell you that maybe you won't, but you get up, and before he can even stand up, you get lost among the people.
the next time he sees you, you're on the couch, head in your hands as you try to stop the tears from your eyes.
remus sits next to you. a hand on you back as he leans to see your face.
"are you drunk?" you nod "do you want to go to sleep" you nod, so he gets up and holds your hand, making your way through the crowd.
once you reach the hall, he doesn't let go of your hand. he notices that something's wrong, he notices that you haven't complained to sirius about being in a pureblood family, like you do each time you receive a letter from them. he notices that you're trying not to cry. he notices that you're barely holding his hand, maybe it's because you're drunk or you're too sad to.
and he wants to say something, he wants to help. but he decides to wait until you're in your room. he helps you get your makeup off and change into your pjs. he's folding your clothes while you're sitting on the side of your bed when he hears smalls sobs.
he immediately sits next to you, drying your tears.
"it's okay, everything will be alright" he hugs you, mentally cursing when you shake your head.
"you don't get it" you tell him, in between sobs.
"then explain it to me" he says, wondering if it's the same thing as what happened at lunch.
"i can't" you sigh, pulling away from him as you dry your tears.
"yes you can, i want to help you" his hands go to your face, holding you.
"you can't-" you insist, putting your hands over his.
"please let me help"
"i'll probably leave school as soon as i can" you admit, you don't even know why, you just don't want to disappear without explanations.
"what? no, you can't leave" he panics, he looks around trying to find someone laughing at him. he doesn't.
"are you even sorry? you don't seem to have tried to stay" you know he doesn't mean it, he knows he doesn't mean it. but it's better that way, it'll be easier if he's mad at you. so you don't answer. you just stare at him.
"i didn't, remus, it's not that easy" you tell him, begging him to understand.
"i never said i wanted things to be easy. especially not with you" he fights the urge to walk away, thinking that maybe there's a chance that you'll change your mind.
"i don't want to hurt you" you repeat, maybe more to remind you than to him.
"you're already hurting me"
"you have to understand"
"when you defended werewolves from that guy you already knew i was one didn't you? maybe he was right and you're a bitch after all, did you tell him that just to shag me?" he doesn't even blink as he talks, pretending he's not mad at himself right now, even more than with you.
he thinks it's unfair, remus thinks that it's unfair that you're talking to peter like nothing happened, that you're playing quidditch with james and sirius like you weren't crying in his arms just a few weeks ago. he thinks it's unfair that you haven't even glanced at him. he thinks it's unfair that you look like nothing ever happened, he hates that you're acting like everything it's okay, like you're not hurt by your family, by his words.
he also thinks he's being selfish, by slightly hoping that you're as hurt as him. that you think of him as much as he thinks of you. he hopes that you also have the urge to go to his room in the middle of the night. he hopes that you're as jealous as he is when someone starts flirting with you at the party james organised at his house.
but he also thinks that none of it it's possible, that you look way too happy to be thinking of him, that if you're planning on getting drunk, you definitely don't want his help.
he doesn't know if it was between staring at you as you flirted back with that guy, or when he was searching for you while you were nowhere to be found. but he gets drunk.
and suddenly, all the doubts he had about you disappear, because you're next to him, rubbing his back and asking him if he's drunk. and you wouldn't help him if you hated him would you?.
he just stares at you as you hold his hand and make your way through the crowd, not so kindly pushing people who didn't move. you help him through the barrier james magically applied on the stairs so no one but his friends could walk upstairs.
when you reach his room, you help him walk to his bed, which is kinda difficult seeing his stumbling tall figure. once he is in the safety of his mattress, you walk to the door, but his voice stops you.
"i can't sleep with my shirt on" when you turn around, he's smirking.
"then take it off" you turn your back to him again.
"i need help" when you turn around, not before rolling your eyes, he's giving you puppy eyes.
remus lupin. is. giving. you. puppy eyes.
"you aren't that drunk" you don't even move from the door.
"are you trying to blackmail me?" you frown, leaning your back onto his closed door.
"is it working?" he asks, hoping it does.
"no" he sighs, before leaning on his elbows to look at you.
"c'mon love, just help me take my shirt off" you don't answer, instead, you just get closer to him, and help him sit up, once he is, he doesn't move, he just looks up at you.
"you're not gonna put your arms up?" you groan, frustrated, when he just smiles at you.
after a few minutes of work, due to his boycott, you finally take his shirt off, throwing it aside before walking away.
or that's what you try, because before you can even turn around, his arms are around you. and you don't know how he's so strong, or why you didn't try to fight back more, maybe it was the alcohol. but before you notice it. you're on the bed next to him, and he's hugging you so tight that you have no choice but to fall asleep.
"if i forgave him, you can do it too" you say, especially looking at james. "so, i hope you apologise to him, because he deserves it"
when you get to remus' room, he's looking at himself in the mirror.
"i'm sorry" you sneak in front of him, hugging him as you put your head in his chest.
"why" he chuckles, hugging you back.
"what do you mean why, are you stupid?" you questions him.
"love, it's not your fault" he smiles as you narrow your eyes at him. "i deserved it"
"shut up" you immediately pull away from him, storming out of the bathroom.
he grabs your wrist before you can walk out of the room, and as soon as he gets it his arms are around you.
"don't be mad at me" he pleads, and when you don't answer, his lips go to your cheek. "please"
when you don't answer he just keeps kissing you.
"please"
this time is your other cheek.
"cmon love"
your forehead.
"just talk to me"
your nose.
"please"
your lips
"love"
your neck.
and you know that he'll start going lower if you don't stop him. and you know that if he does you won't be mad anymore. so you pull away from him.
"you're stupid, remus lupin" you glare at him "if you ever say that you deserve any hurt ever again i'll be the one punching you instead of james. and i'll also cry"
"why would you cry?" he genuinely asks, putting one of his hands on your cheek.
"because you don't deserve anything bad remus. you're literally an angel"
"don't say that" you frown at him, and he looks away.
"remus, i mean it"
"i know" he puts his forehead on yours "that's why i don't want you to say it"
"why?"
"because it's gonna make me love you even more"
before you can answer, he's kissing you again, this time for real, when he pulls away, he stares at you.
"i know everyone already says that we're dating, but can we make it official?" his hands are on your cheeks, and he thinks that he's never been more nervous in his life.
"i'd love to" this time, you're the one who kisses him, and you stay like that for a while, in each other's arms. before someone knocks on the door.
when you open, you find james on the other side, with regret in his eyes.
"can i talk to remus?" you narrow your eyes at him as remus appears behind you.
"it's alright love"
you go to the living room with everyone, and before you know it, james and remus are walking in, talking and laughing.
everyone stares at them as they get closer to the couch.
"what?" they ask, staring back at you.
"everything's… fine?" lily asks, and when they both smile and nod, everyone smiles and cheers, a bit exaggerated.
remus sits next to you, putting and arm around you and kissing you.
and if before they were dramatic, now it's like their favourite team won the quidditch world cup.
"what?" this time remus and you ask, staring at them.
"you just kissed?" mary says, not believing it.
"yeah?" you answer.
"why" marlene asks, narrowing her eyes.
"we're dating" remus says, and the night ends between cheers, screams and hugs.
sirius and james even cry a bit, hugging each other while saying "finally!" "we did it!"
Being Wolfstar's child would include:
-Having James Potter as your godfather (he'd definitely spoil you). When you went to Hogwarts, he either cried just as much as Sirius, or held Sirius whilst he sobbed.
-Going to the Potters' every Sunday for lunch. It's just a family tradition
-Being besties with Harry. Your dads and Godfather definitely arranged so many playdates for you two to become friends
-Having your own little Marauders nickname :,)
-Getting to cuddle with Padfoot when you're overwhelmed or just sad, but not okay with people at the time.
-Getting to ride Padfoot like a horse when you were younger.
-Having your own kid's leather jacket. You're the coolest kid in primary/elementary school, matching with your dad.
-Being raised on Queen and ABBA.
-Getting given your own record player when you go to Hogwarts.
-Having an overprotective uncle Regulus who secretly hopes you'll be in Slytherin.
-Getting majorly spoiled by said Uncle Regulus. He'd just be such a sweetheart to you <3
-He's really good with kids but no one, himself included, knows how.
-Having Mcgonagall as your unofficial Grandmother. If you ever get in trouble in Hogwarts, she would scold you, but with a fond smile on her face.
-She did the exact same thing with the Marauders.
-She definitely sent weekly letters to your dads about how you were doing in Hogwarts during 1st year.
-Being a sassy little shit. With Remus and Sirius as your parents, and Lily helping raise you too? You're the sassiest child the world has ever seen.
-Mastering Remus' eye roll at the age of four.
-If you play Quidditch, your entire family showing up to support you (and low key embarrassing you)
-Getting an excess amount of hugs, especially from Sirius. His baby just came back from shopping? Set down the bags and give your old man a hug. You've just gotten of the Hogwarts Express? Maybe he'll finish cuddling you by the time you have to leave again.
-Siriusly, So. Many. Hugs.
-Little forehead kisses from Remus.
-Just so much love in general.
-You growing up to be one of the smartest kids, but never once doubting how much you are loved by your dads, or by the rest of your family.
-And so much more!
"I want one." I'd said, without even thinking.
Harry had just started to crawl. Lily was hovering over him rather nervously, wand at the ready to fix any bumps or bruises whilst James (who was very frazzled, but also very chuffed for his son) tried to figure out how to work the 'bloody muggle photo-thingy'.
Inside the Potter's living room, filled with laughter and joy, and so so much love for each other (and Baby Harry) it was all too easy to forget about the war. It was easy to forget the identifying questions James had made us answer on arrival, or the incantation we'd had to perform just to be able to see James and Lily's home. It was easy to forget the missions Sirius and Remus were being sent on, stretching out over weeks and days, or the missing muggles, witches and wizards, the rising death toll, the insistent nagging from The Dark Lord to change allegiances and join him.
On a lazy Sunday, where Lily would make soup and crusty rolls for lunch, and a roast for tea, where James and Sirius would spend hours transforming between their anamagi to amuse Baby Harry and Remus would read aloud whilst Peter and I played chess, it was easy to forget everything wrong with the world. It was so easy to just exist.
Remus looked up over the cover of his book and then down at his nephew, who was now sitting atop Padfoot, his father laughing maniacally whilst Lily shooed them out of the kitchen. He smiled an odd sort of smile, like he hadn't expected the words to come out of my mouth at all. Ever. Honestly, neither had I. Having children had been the last thing on my mind, in that time. But seeing the joy that Harry had brought to our friends, the life that Lily and James were building for him - it inspired me.
"Well," Remus mused, sitting his book down on the coffee table - careful to mind the cups of scattered tea everywhere - "I'll distract Lily. You could take Prongs in a duel. Easy."
His smile was wicked, his voice dripping with sarcasm as he came from the single arm chair to the sofa I was stretched across. He lifted my legs, sat them back on his lap, arm stretched along the back of the sofa behind me. I rolled my eyes at him, pouting, "You know fine well that's not what I meant, Lupin."
Remus laughed. A rare laugh, these days. My heart melted. He looked so much like the boy I'd fallen in love with all those years ago - the quiet (not at all quiet), studious, mysterious Remus Lupin. Little had I known he was the true mastermind to all 'Marauder' pranks, while remaining studious and mysterious, but also being the biggest, most sarcastic loud mouth I'd ever met. I had been in way too deep ever since.
"I know, love, I know." He patted my shin gently, lovingly.
He was thinking, behind those big, hazel eyes. I knew Remus inside and out, the moral debate was eating him alive. The self doubt, the inner fear he held of himself, of the wolf.
"I guess I never much thought of us having children. Of you wanting to have them, really, with me..." Remus looked pitiful, lost in thought, I frowned.
"Why wouldn't I want to have children with you? They'd be the prettiest, smartest, funniest babies to ever walk the Earth." I said confidently.
This earned me another laugh. Then, a shrug, "I dunno," Remus scratched the back of his neck awkwardly, "The wolf, I guess. It's not really one hundred percent that the kid wouldn't be."
I knew the possibility. But I also knew the progress that was being made in the ways of Lycanthropy. I knew how hard it had been for Remus, growing up. I knew he was cast aside, an afterthought, that people held prejudice against 'his kind', but I'd only ever loved him more for the strong man it had turned him into.
Not everyone was like this, though.
"I know the risks. I know you'll have put a lot more thought into it than me. A conversation for another time, maybe, but I'd like you to know," My hands reached for his face, guiding him to meet my eyes, "It would never be the wolf that put me off having children with you, Remus."
Remus smiled, a genuine smile and leaned forward to place his lips on mine. I settled back into the sofa, watched as Remus picked up his book, settling over my shins to read it.
"Your massive head..." I blew a whistle, "Now that might put me off."
Sirius cackled from the kitchen. Remus blew a raspberry and Harry copied him.
Hello starry ✨
What are some worst fandom takes you have seen?
What kind of fic would you write to "shithead Regulus Black" fest?
Most importantantly, what is going on in the greyhart universe right now???
Hey bat!! Sorry for the late reply I’ve been so busy lately. I'm literally so embarrassed it’s been over a month never gonna ask for asks again byeeee
Anywaysssss, u always ask the me the most self indulgent asks tho so thank u so much 🫡🫡
Worst Fandom Takes I've Seen:
Damn this is difficult. there are so many shit takes floating around hmmmm let's start with the easy ones.
Twinkification of sirius black. ranted about this on my blog already so i'll keep it short. it sucks. also fun fact, i used to be a total marauders fanon fan until the butchering of sirius' character (+ the rise of jegulus). So really, it was just sirius’ character assassination that made question fanon marauders. Remus fanonization hasn’t bothered me till quite recently lol.
That sirius and Remus are soulmates. Like they’re literally my otp,, but they’re not perfect for each other I’m sorry. They’re probably better with other people (Dni remadora stans tho). Buuuut, that’s part of the reason I like them so much!! Because they’re so shit for each other. People who say their soulmates often sugarcoat their relationship and get mad when ‘actual’ wolfstar depict them as ‘toxic’
Regulus was forced into being a death eater by friends and family. Bffr that boy had a Voldemort mood board. His parents were probably more concerned for him lmaoo
‘James Potter is the sun’. Babes that man was an arsehole 💅🏼💅🏼. If he’s the sun then that’s because he thinks so highly of himself not because he’s a sunshine loll
‘All the marauder’s characters must be white becoz poc didn’t exist in the seventies and our saviour jkr said so’ bffr 🙄🙄
‘Remus would bully james and sirius’ or ‘Remus was the smartest’ or ‘Remus was a roadman/skinhead’ or ‘Remus had abs’ or….
‘Blah blah *extreme terf rhetoric* blah blah
What kind of fic I would write for the ‘shit head regulus black fest’
Hmm idk. Can’t imagine writing about reggie. Well if this is specifically about reg being a shithead than maybe I’d write about all the awful things he’d said about sirius before sirius ran away or smth.
Greyhart shenanigans
Oh they’re going great. No lube no protection and all that. Mysteriously tho, every one of lockhart’s book seems to feature a hot buff werewolf character. Fans are starting to ship them and thus the omegaverse in the hp universe was born 😇
Here is the link to my masterlist.
Remus Lupin x Reader: I Could Never Hate You
Warnings: A little cliché but nothing more than that
“Do you have a thing for my sister?” James tilted his head to the side and studied one of his closest friends, Remus Lupin, for his reaction. Over the past couple of days, he noticed the way that Remus would look across the Great Hall to where his younger sister was sitting at the Slytherin table.
Of course Remus had a thing for James’ little sister. Who didn’t have a thing for her? Not only was she absolutely beautiful, but she was incredibly smart as well. He thought that beauty and brains were the perfect combination. Remus had overheard a couple of the professors talking and they said that (y/n) was one of the smartest students to ever come through Hogwarts.
Remus and (y/n) were easily the smartest students at Hogwarts. (y/n) was a year younger than the Marauders, however she was in a lot of the same classes as her brother and his friends because of how advanced she was.
The thing was, the two of them were not friends at all. (y/n) did her absolute best to avoid James and his friends. She couldn’t stand them. Especially Remus. She didn’t like that anyone could come close to as smart as she was. The two of them had created this rivalry between each other.
Remus mentioned the rivalry to (y/n), but she rolled her eyes and acted as if she had no idea what he was talking about. Remus noticed that she often did that whenever she found herself in the presence of him and his friends. He didn’t spend much time around (y/n) which probably had to do with the fact that she was in a different house than him. She only spoke to James when it was necessary. Most people didn’t even know that the two of them were related.
(y/n) came to love the look on his face whenever he found out that she had gotten a higher mark than him. Now that she was thinking about it, she had come to love all the looks on his face. It didn’t matter if he was confused, disappointed, or happy, she loved watching his facial expressions. But that was something she liked to keep to herself. That was something that nobody had the pleasure of saying they knew about her.
Occasionally Sirius liked to flirt with (y/n) and she didn’t mind flirting back, but he knew it wasn’t going anywhere. There was absolutely no way that (y/n) would even think about dating one of James’ friends.
“Fucking hell.” James rubbed his temples trying to look anywhere but at Remus. “I actually don’t want you to answer that question.” He already knew the answer to his own question before the words left his mouth. He wasn’t angry at Remus. In all honesty, he didn’t really care if Remus fancied his sister.
He felt bad for Remus. (y/n) would chew him up and spit him out without even thinking twice about it. She wasn’t a girl that liked to date just for the sake of it. If she put any amount of energy into someone, then she was in it for the long run. But the last thing you wanted to do was upset her.
“Look, I know this isn’t ideal, but I promise your sister has absolutely no interest in me. I’m pretty sure she hates me.” Remus sadly sighed.
“She doesn’t hate you mate. Sirius maybe, but not you.” James chuckled softly.
“I don’t think that’s true. Anytime that I even look in her direction, she rolls her eyes at me.”
“She does that to everyone. Have you ever actually tried to talk to her?”
“No but-” Remus started to say, but James held up a hand.
“I think you might be good for her. She might stop being so stuck up. Talk to her.” James couldn’t believe what he was saying. He was actually trying to push his friend on with his little sister.
Over the next couple of weeks, Remus did his absolute best to try to talk to (y/n), but anytime he got close, he chickened out. There was something intimidating about her as well. She reminded him of a fox. They were fascinating to look at and then you mix in the clever and cunning personality.
Late one afternoon, Remus finds himself taking a walk out by the lake. The common room was too loud and he wanted to find a place where he could be alone with his thoughts. During his walk, he found it hard to think about anything but (y/n). It was at times like these where he wished that he was able to come up with smooth pickup lines like his friends. He had never been the best at talking to girls.
Out of the corner of his eye, he notices James’ little sister sitting laying out under a tree reading a book. She was alone so he figured this was the perfect time to talk to her.
At least if he got rejected, there wouldn’t be any witnesses. As he’s admiring her while walking toward her, he tries to come up with something funny to say, but nothing comes to his mind. This is not something that he is good at.
“Hey Remus.” (y/n) softly says as he gets close to her. She gives him a little smile before looking back down at her book.
“Hey. What are you doing out here?” He asks before mentally facepalming himself. What a stupid question. He doesn’t even want to see the look on her face so he just sits down beside her before he can stop himself.
“I’m all caught up with my work and I figured this was a great way to pass some time.” She shrugs. “Do you know Grant Dumas? He’s in my year, but anyway, that guy won’t leave me alone back up in the common room. I came out here hoping to escape him for a little bit.”
“I don’t believe that I know Grant.” Remus said after a moment of thinking. He wasn’t too familiar with many Slytherin.
“He’s not someone that you want to know Remus. He-” (y/n) trailed off as he eyes fixed on something behind his head.
“He what?”
“He’s walking over here.” (y/n) groaned. “I keep telling him that I’m not interested, but he doesn’t take no for an answer.”
“Should I say something to him? Maybe I can tell James what is going on.” Remus offered. Then he turned around to get a look at Grant. He was more or less what Remus was expecting. Strutting toward them, he looked like someone who came from old money. Someone who never heard the word no.
“Absolutely not. The last thing I want is to get James involved. He already thinks I can’t handle things on my own. I have an even better idea.” She smirked a little. Remus had seen that look many times on James' face and now he was worried.
Before Remus even comprehended what was happening, (y/n) had grabbed his tie and pulled him close. She expected the kiss to be soft and gentle, but instead it was rough and passionate. It was as if the two of them had been wanting this for so long and here was their chance. They were making every moment worth it.
His lips were even softer than she thought they would be. And at that moment, (y/n) realized how badly she wanted Remus. She pulls away locking eyes with him before deciding she needs him again. She tries to lean in, but Remus gently cups her cheeks planting soft kisses around her lips. He isn’t sure that he’ll ever get this moment again, so he’s doing everything in his favor to savor it. (y/n) lets out an annoyed sigh which causes Remus to chuckle.
“What’s wrong?”
“I just want you to kiss me again.” She pouts and Remus knows he can’t so no to her. This time the kiss is slow and tender. (y/n) lets his tongue slip into her mouth while her hands make their way to his neck. She’s never been one for PDA, but maybe you just need the right person to bring that out of you.
When they finally pull apart, (y/n) finds a very angry Grant Dumas looking down at her.
“Really (y/n)?” He raises an eyebrow. “A Gryffindor?”
“I think you forget that my brother is a Gryffindor,” she shot back, her eyes narrowing at him. “Besides, I told you that we were never going to work.”
“Don’t come crawling back to me when he breaks your heart?” Grant huffed before heading toward the castle.
“So uh, this is new to me.” Remus admitted nervously scratching the back of his neck.
“What is new to you?” (y/n) asked.
“I don’t usually kiss girls before I go on a date with them.” He answered not sure what this meant for his relationship with (y/n). This was one of the last things he expected to happen with her. “Besides, I thought you hated me.”
“Well aren’t you the gentleman Remus Lupin. But nobody said anything about a date.” (y/n) smiled up at him.
“Well now I’m saying something about a date.” Remus’ confidence was growing. “I want you to go on a date with me (y/n).”
“You don’t have to ask me twice. Oh and Remus, I l never hated you.”
Regulus and Lily friendship headcanons!!
I think that they wouldn't really come across each other and become friends unless Regulus got closer to the Marauders (preferably in a jegulus or jegulily narrative)
That being said, I feel like they started spending time together sort of by accident or by extention of being with a mutual friend. Like Remus.
Since I see all three as studious and academics, it makes the most sense to me that their friendship started as studying meetings. Regulus first befriended Lupin and joined him in the library for quiet reading. Sometimes Lily sat with them as well.
Maybe one day Reg was reading a book for leisure that Evans had already read and she commented on it. They talked a little about the book over tea after he finished it and that's how they started talking to each other.
Enter James, who is an idiot and thus has a lot of stupid moments. And of course, Lily and Regulus being the witty and sometimes sarcastic little shits they are, have to comment and joke about the dumb shit he does. So their conversations branched from literature to Potter and eventually daily casualties.
Regulus never thought he'd like Lily. She seemed stuck-up in a way. Somewhat unapproachable. And of course, a muggleborn Gryffindor. But he realised she's very clever and sweet. One of the smartest people of her age. Just went to show how wrong blood supremacy was.
Evans never had an opinion in regards to the youngest Black. She gave everyone a chance (obviously, she used to be friends with Snape after all) and never had a negative encounter to base her opinions on. She was still surprised of just how well the two got along. Books and tea came a long way.
Thank you @thatonewerewolf for asking!!
hi! are there any headcanons for GC that you have that haven’t really made it into your chapters, but they’re kicking around in there when you’re writing?
Hey darling! I actually talked about this on The Interlude but yes, there are very many of these.
From small tiny things like the fact that Sirius likes to draw, but never shows his drawings to anyone, and that he plays the piano fantastically.
To the fact that Remus has a camera and loves taking pictures and that his handwriting isn’t that great unless he uses a charm to make it better. But that, if he is writing for you to copy his notes, he tries to make them extra neat.
I don’t know it it’s clear or not, but Vixen sucks at Transfiguration and Herbology. Unless she’s transfigurating herself lol
Sirius and Remus have kissed in the past (It was a dare).
Sirius does not show his drawings to anybody bc Walburga was a bitch to him when he was little and he's terrified people will react the same way.
Sirius and James are both brilliant.
Remus is too, but that's because he feels a burdensome pressure from Lyall to be perfect. If he is perfect, he cannot be made less for being a werewolf (according to Lyall).
Same thing happens to Lily, she feels the need to be perfect because she is a muggle-born and she wants to constantly prove herself that she is worthy (kinda like Hermione).
Also, Snape is a very sensible subject for her. She is the kind of girl to see the good in people, even when that good is very small. And even when that good has wronged her, which obviously clashes with a lot of her friends' opinions (mainly Marlne and Vixen who are stubborn as hell)
Lily had a crush on Remus in third year, but he said "thanks" when she admitted it since he thought she meant it platonically.
Also, that's when he started to figure out his sexual preferences
Remus introduced Sirius to muggle music but now Sirius is the one that introduces Remus to new bands.
Nina has a crush, you all know who she is
Lily is bi, male leaning
Peter isn't stupid, but he is kinda clumsy and bad at quizzes, which is why he constantly gets outshined by the rest of the Marauders.
He's good a transfiguration thought (mostly things).
Vixen's parents aren't evil, but their methods are more than questionable.
Her dad really, really wants that position in the ministry. Although he wants it for the greater good, the fact that he doesn't care how to achieve it is the questionable part.
Evan has an homophobic dad
Barty's father is absolutely neglectful (kinda like Vixen's) [But that's canon, isn't it?]
Also, Barty is insanely clever, like he might be the smartest person in the school.
Tom Riddle, before the whole Avada thing, was attractive, even for a 50-year-old. I mean think Michael Fassbender's level of handsome.
You guys might hate me after chapter 45
Sneaking Out
@struttingstag April 9th Prompt: Sneaking out | 1552 words | Jegulus, Rosekiller CW: Recreational Drug Use
"And where do you think you are going?" Effie asked sternly with her arms crossed over her chest.
James thought he was being quiet but clearly, he wasn't quiet enough. James was supposed to meet up with Regulus in twenty minutes like he did every day after school. Usually, they would meet at the park and just hang out there but today he was meeting him at his house since his parents were out of town for the week.
"To see Reggie," James replied innocently like he didn't know why his mother was stopping him.
He knew. Of course, he knew and it was all Barty's fault. He was the one who gave James the joint. James just forgot that he had it on him when he walked into the house and his mum stopped him.
"I don't think so. You are grounded. If you really wanted to see Regulus, then you should have listened. Now get back to your room until I call you down for dinner."
"But mum? That's not fair. I always see him after school." James put on his best pouting face.
"Too bad. You know the rules, James. These are your consequences. If you're going to smoke, I better not find out about it. Now get to your room." Effie pointed to the stairs leading up to the second floor with a look on her face that said if he kept it up, he would be grounded longer.
He knew he wasn't going to win that argument even if he tried. James sighed before he dramatically threw his hands up in the air and hung his jacket back up on the hook.
"Fine," James said, aggravated before he stomped up the stairs.
He knew he was acting like a child but he didn't care. He wanted to go and see Regulus and he couldn't even call him to tell him that he couldn't come because his mum took his phone away.
James slammed the door to his room and plopped down on his bed dramatically, making a whole show of it even though nobody was watching. He had to find a way to sneak out and yes, he did realise that trying to leave through the front door was not the smartest idea. James was looking at the tree outside his bedroom window when he saw something fly up and back down. He thought nothing of it until it happened again. James walked over to the window and saw Barty underneath it, trying to throw a rock up to hit the window.
"What are you doing here?" James whisper-shouted after he opened the window.
"I'm guessing since you weren't answering your phone that you got it taken away again."
"No shit, Sherlock." James scoffed as he leaned on the windowsill. "That still doesn't explain why you're here."
"I'm here to break you out, obviously." Barty shrugged with a devilish grin.
"I already tried sneaking out. Mum caught me."
"Well, I just saw her leave with your father, so I'm guessing you have at least an hour before they are back. So, come on. We got our boys to go and meet. They're at the park already."
"I thought we were meeting at Reg's house."
"Change of plans." Barty shrugged with a smug look on his face. "Sirius has Remus over and Reggie said he didn't want to deal with them."
"Oh."
James looked between Barty and his bedroom door a few times before he grabbed his extra trainers and jacket and climbed out of the window. His door was locked so if his mum came to check on him later he could just pretend that he was still mad at her for grounding him.
James grabbed onto the tree and climbed down easily. Barty was laughing quietly and James wanted to smack him. They peeked around the corner of the house and sure enough, the car wasn't in the drive. James and Barty bolted across the garden before they made it three streets over to the park.
Regulus and Evan were already there waiting for them and James couldn't help the smile that spread across his face when he saw Regulus. It didn't matter that they just saw each other a couple of hours ago at lunch. Unfortunately, James had also gotten detention for pulling a prank on their maths teacher so he couldn't see Regulus at the end of the school day.
"Hey baby," James said easily when he pulled Regulus into a tight hug and kissed the top of his curls.
"You had to sneak out again, didn't you?" Regulus asked with a knowing smirk and James glared at Barty. Fucking traitor.
"No," James denied immediately.
"James."
"Fine, yeah I did but it's worth it. Mum isn't even home right now so as long as I'm back before she gets home, I should be fine," James admitted with a shrug.
Regulus shook his head but didn't say anything. It's not like he hadn't had to sneak out to meet up with James before. They walked over to the swings and talked for a few minutes before Barty and Evan joined them.
"So, how long are you grounded for, James?" Evan asked as he lit up the joint that he put between his lips.
"A week. It's Barty's fault though," James said before he stuck his tongue out at Barty who gasped and put his hand over his heart as if the accusation hurt him.
"How the fuck is it my fault? You're the dumbass that got caught."
"Yeah, because you put the damn joint in my pocket when the bobbies showed up. I forgot it was there and she could smell it. So, yes, it's your fault."
"Whatever, I broke you out too so I don't know why you're complaining." Barty shrugged before he took the joint from Evan and took a long drag on it, letting the smoke fill his lungs before he tried to blow smoke rings with it.
"I thought I told you to always check your pockets before you went home," Regulus scolded him lightly. It wasn't the first time it happened and probably wouldn't be the last either.
"Yeah, I know. I was thinking, love."
They hung out at the park for a while, passing the joint back and forth until they all felt good. James felt like he was floating and he could have sworn that he saw his parents' car drive by but he wasn't thinking clearly and didn't realise that that was a very bad thing. At least, not until Barty started smacking him in the chest.
"James! You gotta go. I'm pretty sure that was your mum and it looks like she's turning around."
"Fuck!" James exclaimed before he practically fell off of the swing in his hurry to hide.
James managed to hide behind a tree before the car slowed down near the entrance to the park. The other three were still on the swings, smoking and acting like nothing was wrong. As soon as the car pulled away, James looked around to make sure the coast was clear. Did they realise that he wasn't in his room? Or did they assume that he would try to sneak out again? James walked back over to Regulus and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek. He didn't want to go.
"James! Fucking go! I think they're turning around again," Barty screamed as he yanked on James' arm.
"Fuck, fuck, fuck, fucking shit. Fuck! I love you. I'll see you later.... maybe if they don't kill me for sneaking out again."
"Just go! Fuck!" Regulus shouted as he pointed in the direction of James' house.
"Fuck! Okay, bye. Love you."
James took off running before the car could turn the corner again. He was cutting across people's gardens to try and make it. When he made it back to his house, the car was still gone and he booked it around the back of the house to his bedroom window. He climbed the tree and fell through the window with a thud. His chest was heaving as he tried to catch his breath. James threw his trainers and jacket back into the closet before he grabbed his headphones, connected them to his stereo and lay on his bed. He also tried to get the smell of weed off his clothes. That would be a dead giveaway if his mum came to his room.
By the time James' breathing was back to normal from the adrenaline of running and panicking, there was a knock at his bedroom door that he ignored. He was pretending to be mad at his mum.
"James, dinner is ready," Effie called through the door.
"I'm not hungry," James called back, putting as much annoyance in his voice as he could.
Suddenly the door opened and James had to stop his jaw from dropping. His mother stood there with her arms crossed over her chest again and he knew he was fucked.
"I wasn't asking and the next time you decide to sneak out, you should probably make sure that the door is actually locked."
"Fuck," James said under his breath before he slowly got off his bed, taking his headphones off and following his mother down to the dining room for dinner.
moon boy
Summary: the one where sirius, james, and peter figure out remus is a werewolf
(click here to read on ao3)
Sirius Black couldn’t figure out the fourth boy that occupied the Gryffindor second year boys dormitory: Remus Lupin.
He had been trying to do it for the past year and a half that he had known Remus. Remus Lupin, Sirius noted, kept to himself, would smile when his three roommates would mess about and make terrible (but in a 12 year old’s mind hilarious) jokes, and hum along whenever there was music playing in the common room when he sat near his housemates. He made brilliant additions to their mischief. He was also smart, Sirius would argue he was one of the smartest people in their year though he knew that the twelve year old would vehemently disagree with this statement. If Sirius pushed so he could learn more about him though, the young boy would immediately shut down. He would drop the little smile that had been gracing his lips and bury his head back into whatever book he was more than likely holding in his hands.
Sirius knew there was something else to him. There had to be.
No one had cool scars like Remus and was boring.
“Maybe you just scare him,” James Potter, Sirius’s best friend, had said one night when it was just the other three second year Gryffindor boys in the dormitory. Remus was nowhere to be found, which was a common occurrence every few weeks or so. “You scared Pete almost all of first year.”
Peter Pettigrew, their other dorm mate, whipped his head up from the chessboard that he had been eyeing intensely. He was playing against James and taking the game a little too seriously.
“He did not,” the stout blonde boy shot back quickly, causing James to cast Sirius a look, grinning mischievously.
“See?” James asked, calling for a piece on his chessboard to move. “You’re not even doing anything Black and you’ve got him shaking like a-”
“Knight to E5,” Peter squeaked out, crossing his arms over his chest in a gesture of confidence.
James blinked in surprise as he looked back to the chessboard, cursing softly under his breath at the sight of Peter getting him with a checkmate.
Sirius barked out a laugh. “C’mon, Pete. You’re too good at the game! You gotta go easy on Potter now and again or you’ll completely destroy his ego worse than Evans does everytime she calls him insufferable.”
James’s face turned red and he opened his mouth to say something but nothing came out which was natural at the mention of Lily Evans.
Peter shook his head as he began to clean up the game. “Where’s the fun in that? It isn’t my fault that James is horrible at the game-”
“Now you both are just being mean,” James grumbled, moving off of Peter’s bed where the two had been playing chess and went to sit beside Sirius on the windowsill.
“-plus,” Peter continued, “he’s the only other person that I can play with whenever Remus isn’t here. Madame Pomfrey won’t let me visit him in the hospital wing so I can play against him.”
Sirius turned his head to look back out the window. It was a clear night out, with stars visible and the moon shining that Sirius couldn’t help but briefly admire. It was late but luckily for the boys they had no classes the next day.
“He’s sick again?” Sirius asked, breaking the few seconds of silence.
“I saw him leaving dinner early and he said he wasn’t feeling well or something,” James said with a nod, pushing his glasses up his nose. “He’s sick like every month. I worry about him. He looks so… worn after he gets back from the hospital wing.”
Sirius tore his gaze away from the window, considering James curiously. “Do you think he might be dying?” he asked, not giving the question a second thought.
James shot Sirius a look. “Well, I hope not.”
Sirius laughed, letting his hands up in exasperation. “I’m only asking! I mean you said it yourself, he comes in exhausted after a night in the hospital wing and like he came back from some war.”
“I didn’t mean that I thought he was dying though.”
“Maybe he’s turning into a werewolf,” Peter said, sitting himself in front of the two boys on the floor.
Sirius could only roll his eyes. “That’s not even a little funny, Pettgrew.”
Peter scoffed and rolled his own eyes in return. “At least mine has some merit.”
“No it doesn’t,” Sirius said, crossing his arms over his chest.
Sirius watched at the corner of his eye as James turned his head to look out the window before he said, “Well, it is the full moon.”
“See?” Peter said with a small laugh, relishing in the fact he did have something to back up his ridiculous claim.
Ridiculous as it was though, Sirius found his head turning to look back out the window, his eyes once again landing on the bright moon that was shining in the sky. He squinted at it suspiciously.
“Huh,” Sirius said after a moment, letting the thought actually sit in his head for longer than a second.
Silence fell between the three boys, their eyes trailing the moon that was in their line of sight from the Gryffindor tower. It was pretty that night and Sirius found his eyes falling from the moon to look over the Hogwarts grounds like he was going to spot something moving, something that maybe would explain…
“You know,” Sirius mumbled, “he is sick a lot.”
“At least once a month,” James offered.
“And he has scars,” Peter said.
Sirius grinned at that. “Bloody cool scars.”
Silence fell over the three boys again and they turned their heads to look between one another. It was right there.
“He did miss that astronomy class last month,” James said, a grin creeping up on his face. “Remember?”
“You mean,” Peter said, his eyes widening a bit and Sirius could swear he was also biting back a smile, “the one we did during the-”
“Full moon,” the three second years finished in unison.
They let themselves break into grins, the mischievous kind, the kind that said they knew something that everyone else did not.
“Lads,” Sirius said, clapping his hands together. “I think we cracked it.”
—-
Remus Lupin desperately needed a nap.
Madame Pomfrey offered for him to stay for the day and catch up on sleep in the hospital wing but Remus had politely declined her offer. He never felt comfortable in there no matter how many times he had been in there, it felt like it was too easy for anyone to find him and end up asking questions that Remus still couldn’t think of a straight answer for. It was already bad enough that the second year Gryffindor boys Remus’ had to share a dorm with her practically Daily Prophet reporters based on how often they needed to ask Remus what he was up to, he didn’t need others on his heels either.
To be fair, it was mostly Sirius Black who was in Remus's case.
When Remus arrived at the dorm, he was mildly surprised to see the three of them in there and playing exploding snaps. Their heads immediately snapping up in unison as they looked to Remus with grins that he sadly recognized all too well after the time they had spent together in the same house.
Remus let the door close behind him and said a firm “No,” before moving towards his bed.
That prompted something from Sirius (Remus was learning slowly that his words always prompted something in response from Sirius Black). “We didn’t even say anything!”
Remus let out a sigh and held back a wince of pain as he sat on his bed. His body was bruised a little more than usual that day. Full moons and transforming were always a pain for Remus and he knew they were never going to get any easier but today was… ugh.
“You don’t have to,” Remus said, not meeting any of their intense gazes. “You three have the same face whenever you have an idea in your head.”
Sirius, Remus sighed, got up from where he had been sitting on the ground and joined the young Gryffindor on his bed, jumping onto it. “And what terrible idea do you think might be in our heads, hm?”
Lupin bit back a smile. “You’re the one who said it was terrible.”
James and Peter snickered from where they sat on the ground, ending their game. James and Peter moved to join Remus and Sirius on the bed.
Merlin, Remus thought as he stifled a yawn. He really wanted that nap.
“You’re too easy to read, Black,” James said grinning at his best friend.
“This isn't even about the prank against Snivellus!” Sirius said quickly, still grinning. “Which, for your information Lupin, when we do get to discussing my plan, it is actually brilliant. You just have to see the vision. Imagine the greasy git with,” Sirius held out his hands dramatically, making them shake like they were sparklers, “pink hair.”
Remus laughed softly under his breath. “I’d prefer not to,” he muttered and rubbed his eyes. “Look, I would love to help you guys plan but I am beat.”
“Ah, ah, ah.” Sirius prodded Remus’s cheek just as the young boy was going to let himself drift off to sleep even if the boys were talking over him (it wouldn’t have been a first). “I promise this isn’t about that prank though. Come on. Up.”
When Remus dropped his hands, he found the three boys looking over at him. Remus looked between the three of them, his eyes landing on Sirius’s light colored eyes last. “What?”
Sirius’s grin only further widened. “We,” Sirius said slowly, “know your secret.”
It took everything in Remus’s body to not react. To not panic. “Black, it’s no secret that I would like to sleep in some more before I have to deal with you yelling in my ear.”
“Not that,” James said with a laugh. “He means…” his eyes flicked between the other two boys on Remus’s bed, “the other thing.”
Panic was settling into Remus’s gut. Before he could get a word out, he was startled by Sirius grabbing onto his shoulders and shaking him with the most maniacal grin Remus had ever seen him wear.
“You’re a werewolf aren’t you?” Sirius blurted out “It’s okay if you can’t say it or something but you should blink once if yes though.”
Remus moved quickly away from the three boys he considered his friends, nearly falling off his bed in the process. He didn’t even need to say anything and knew he had messed up somewhere along the way. How did they figure out he was? There shouldn’t have been a way-
“Woah, Lupin,” Potter called out. Remus didn’t even realize he was swaying until James was standing in front of him, his hands on Remus’s shoulders to steady him. His eyes bore into Remus with concern now. “Deep breaths. We’re not gonna hurt you.”
That almost got a laugh out of Remus. “You’re not gonna hurt me?” Remus breathed in shakily, shaking his head but he didn’t move away from James, not even when Sirius and Peter came over to the two of them, both standing on either side of him. “I should-”
“Be the one saying that to us?” Sirius said. He was still smiling like there wasn’t a care in the world and Remus never knew how he did it. “We already know that.”
“How?” Remus blurted out with a shake of his head. “How did you find out?”
“Well last night was the full moon,” James said, shooting a sideways glance to Sirius who was still grinning.
Sirius seemed a bit disgruntled by this fact. “Peter was the one who figured it out though. Took him too long to connect the dots in my opinion…”
Peter looked offended by this. “Well at least I figured it out. You just thought he was probably dying-”
Remus forced himself out of his head at those words. His heart was pounding in his chest and he was finding it harder and harder to breathe, harder to swallow. He shot a look at Peter then whipped his head to Sirius. “Why did you think I was dying?”
Sirius blinked, looking at Remus. “You’re always gone,” he said so easily, like that made much sense. Remus couldn’t think of a good enough argument though.
“You look like a ghost, Lupin,” James said. His voice had gone surprisingly soft. There was a hint of worry in his gaze that oddly enough was something that was calming Remus down. Though, he couldn’t say why or how. “We’re not upset, you know.”
“I-” Remus stuttered out, taking a step back from the boys. “What about scared?”
“Well…” James shared a look with the other two, one that Remus could read because he had been around them all enough to know exactly where their thoughts were, “we’re still here aren’t we?”
“And obviously we won’t tell anyone.” This was Sirius who had crossed his arms over his chest. “We already swore and everything.”
James and Peter nodded, verifying Sirius’ words.
“You… swore?” Remus asked, eyebrows furrowing.
“Obviously,” Sirius said. He grinned that grin that was so ridiculously contagious most of the time but Remus couldn’t bring himself to return it. His anxiety was slowly settling. It shouldn’t have but these boys - his friends - had that weird effect on him. “If anyone spills it then they’re shunned - and we’ll probably kill them. Pettigrew doesn’t think he can handle a murder though so we’ll stick with shunning for now until we change his mind.”
James slapped his hand on Peter’s shoulder with that grin that mirrored Sirius’. “And you know we’ll change his mind. We know Peter here is as evil as they come even if he won’t admit it yet.”
Peter grumbled something under his breath but Remus noted his lips quirking up anyway.
It took Remus a ten count before he could blurt out, “Why though?”
“Why what?” Sirius sighed.
“Why keep it a secret?” Remus shook his head. It didn’t make sense to him. He couldn’t believe they were still in the same room with him. “You know what werewolves are don’t you?”
Sirius barked a laugh then looked between James and Peter. “He thinks he doesn’t know what werewolves are. Can you believe him?”
“What do you take us for, Lupin?” James asked.
“Honestly?” Peter grinned slowly, getting back into the groove of the conversation.
“Okay,” Remus huffed, “then why?”
“Because we’re your friends,” James said with a roll of his eyes. “We just wanted you to know so you don’t have to keep lying to us about where you run off to every month.”
“Which,” Peter, “we still don’t really know where you go every month...”
“Baby steps, Pettigrew.” Sirius said with a light flick of Peter’s ear, making Peter swat his hand away in retaliation. “Plus, Lupin did say he was beat. You should rest up. Sure you had a long night.”
Remus scoffed, unable to stop a stupidly giddy sort of smile from coming on his lips. “You lot act like I will be able to get any sort of rest after this conversation.”
James’ eyes lit up. “Brilliant, you can help us then. Sirius came up with this brilliant idea yesterday after dinner that we could sneak a hair color changing potion from Zonko’s into Snivellus’ dinner - I was thinking the color red would look good but I think he might enjoy that too much because of his obsession with Evans. Which I must say-”
Remus couldn’t bite back the smile as he watched James walk back to his bed, rambling on and on. Remus glanced over at Sirius who was still standing nearby and gave Remus a smile and a half shrug like he was saying “what can you do?” before moving to return to his own bed.
Remus could only sigh as he sat on the edge of his own bed, his lids still heavy with exhaustion but something else fluttered in him that he knew would not let him rest. Not yet at least.
He couldn’t do anything about that either.
The Giving Season
It was the annual gift exchange for the friend group, but something was up. Janus could tell.
And no, it didn't have to do with his feelings towards the other two in the room, that'd be ridiculous.
What was going down this holiday season?
Without further ado, fic under the cut!
The get-together was meant to start 20 minutes ago, which meant everything was going according to plan.
Currently, the only ones present were Logan, Janus, and Remus. Logan had been there at exactly noon, Janus dragging Remus through the door a few minutes later. The gathering was taking place at Patton’s, so he should be here currently, but he had gone out to pick up Roman after he apparently had been having issues with his car. Since Roman had also intended to pick Virgil up and bring him to the festivities, that meant they were also short one emo until Patton made his way back with the other two in tow.
Either way, Janus was getting impatient. That also meant if he was starting to feel impatient, Remus was practically jumping from anticipation already. Logan was probably doing fine, he always plotted extra time in their hangouts for the purposes of one or more of them being late. And he was always less uptight around the holidays.
Janus really enjoyed the season for that reason.
That, and how Remus would share the same facts every year without fail. Like right now.
“Did you guys know that in Belgium, Santa has a cannibal manservant slave that eats the bad children for him instead of just giving them coal?”
“Oh good, Remus is already starting the facts. I can cross that one off my bingo card.” Janus hadn’t actually made a bingo card, but it was certainly an idea for next year.
“Shame. I had his fact about people breaking into noble’s houses while caroling on my own.” Logan’s comment was accompanied by a look sent his way, just a hint of a smile there, one that made his own face attempt to betray him and give a genuine smile back. He was able to work it down to a smirk, and thankfully Logan didn’t seem to notice.
“If you guys are gonna keep teaming up on me, I’m just gonna go outside and strip in the snow.”
“No! I mean,” Logan took his glasses off, wiping them on the edge of his shirt before replacing them on his nose. “We can desist, Remus. There’s no need for our gathering to end up taking place in a police station holding cell.”
“Well, we gotta find something to do. Everyone else is taking so long, and I don’t know why.”
“If I recall, Roman is late because his car tire was punctured.” Janus punctuated his own addition to the conversation with a sip from his eggnog. “Weren’t you just saying to me yesterday that you punctured his wheel before you left for my place? And that’s why you needed to stay the night, to lay low until he calmed down?”
“I bought him a new pair of wheels for Christmas! It’s not like he didn’t need them, the old ones were losing their traction. I just…”
“Forgot he would need the car to get here for you to give him his gift?” The judgment was palpable in Logan’s voice, and Janus would be lying if he said he didn’t get some enjoyment out of it. How did he manage to fall for both the smartest and dumbest members of their group?
Not that either of the party’s present currently knew of his feelings. No, there was no need for that. His little crushes would pass soon enough, and the group dynamic would go back to normal. One couple in their friend group was already enough, and polyamory was complicated. Both Logan and Remus did tend to want to keep things rather simplistic, in their own ways. It was better if they stayed separate.
“Janie, back me up here!” The nasally call of Remus pulled him out of his thoughts, but he was quick to recover.
“I wasn’t listening, and I’m sure you’re wrong anyway.”
Remus huffed, jumping back to curl up on the couch, legs pulled up and arms crossed against his chest. “I get no respect around here.”
“You would be upset if either of us ever claimed to respect you unconditionally.” Logan’s claim seemed to bring Remus right back out of his pretend pouty episode, as he was shooting up from the couch a second later.
“You’re right there, Nerdy Wolverine! Now come on, surely, we don’t have to wait for the others. We can just, start, you know? I’m sure no one’s thaaaaat interested in what we all got each other, I know Roman just cares about Virgil’s reaction to whatever he got him.”
Janus rolled his eyes, all too happy to let Logan take this one. It was always a team effort in managing their friend.
“I… suppose there’s not too much of an issue with that. So long as everyone here acquiesced and we got confirmation from the other’s before opening anything.”
See, now Janus was puzzled. Logan, willingly going against the schedule, agreeing with Remus in one of his ideas? And not just in some theoretical debate the two commonly had over body decomposition and the like. No, this was just going along with one of Remus’ tamer ideas. What was Logan up to?
“Perfect! I’ll text Robro and let him know.” Remus was typing and practically had the text typed before Logan could even remind him to ask, not tell. Well, this was the chaos Janus had signed up for when he hadn’t fallen for one moron and one genius who was always a little too indulgent.
It didn’t take long for the three of them to get settled around the living area, their usual spots working well. Logan was on the far right of the couch, Remus leaning against that same arm, and Janus in the armchair closest to Logan’s seat. The other half of the couch and the loveseat were left empty, but the space felt filled enough, especially with the presents located next to each person. Plenty more were still in their place beneath the tree, but these were the only important ones right now.
“Well, I propose Remus starts, as I’m surprised he even managed to go this long without blurting out what he got each of us.” Logan’s suggestion was probably smart. The ratman was already bouncing on his heels, his body rocking back and forth as small giggles emerged from his crooked smile. The fact that his mouth was still shut was astounding.
“Oh goody!” Within seconds, Janus had a larger wrapped box in his lap, and a quick glance told him Logan had received a similar package, albeit with different wrapping. Logan’s had little test tubes, although there did seem to be some hand-drawn explosions surrounding the chemistry equipment. Janus’ own paper had snakes all over it, but the one right next to the tag had a hat very similar to Janus’ own drawn atop its head.
He would have to open this carefully to keep from ripping that particular scrap of paper. It definitely wouldn’t be making its way into his secret scrapbook collection that none of the others knew about.
“Open ‘em, open ‘em!” Janus didn’t fight the smile so much this time, if only because his gaze was down towards his gift. And… oh.
“Remus, what is this?” The paper wasn’t fully removed, but he had peeled the edge enough to get a glimpse and he wasn’t sure about what he saw. At least, he shouldn’t be seeing this, if his previous statement was correct.
“I found your hidden scrapbook supplies! I didn’t look through any of the albums you’ve made, but I figured you could always use more stuff. Plus, it didn’t like you had a pair of crafting scissors in there, and those things are crazy sharp and good for stabbing things. I figured you could use a pair.”
“But how did you—”
“Jan, I’ve stayed the night at your house how many times? Me digging through your cabinets had to be something you expected.”
Well, it definitely wasn’t out of character, but still. He was known among all of them as being the best with secrets. For Remus to know…
“I suppose it isn’t the worst thing in the world.” Janus’ words triggered a small stim noise from Remus, the smallest sound before he rounded onto Logan, fully turning around and almost hitting the coffee table in his effort to face the other.
“And Logan? Whatcha think?”
Logan’s gift was smaller from what Janus could see, but that wasn’t much from the way it was carefully cupped in the nerd’s hands.
“Is this a tie pin?”
“Yup! I figured you could use a new one, your old one was starting to rust a little bit.”
“And it’s shaped like a tiny tie.”
“Uh huh! That way you can be a nerd squared. Double ties!”
It was silent for a minute, Janus holding back his own comments as he examined Logan’s face. His own opinion on the quality of the gift was inconsequential until Logan’s reaction could be judged. And he had always been hard to read.
The next noise to fill the space was a small chuckle, the volume of which slowly rose as Logan lifted his head. “It is an adequate gift, Remus. Thank you.”
“Aw, no problem! All I ask for in return is that my own gift is a pet squid.”
“You do not have the space at your and Roman’s townhouse to accommodate such an animal.”
“Life finds a way.”
“No, we are not having another discussion on Jurassic Park, at least not while I’m the only one who has to suffer through it.” Janus took a moment to mourn the fact that his eggnog cup was empty, and that the alcohol content was not nearly as high as he would appreciate.
It was only 12:30 but it was never too early to be drinking if Remus and Logan were discussing their theories again.
“Well then, I suppose it’s your turn to pass out gifts?” Again, Janus was left off-put by Logan’s contribution. He normally insisted (or at least suggested) they go clockwise when moving around the circle for their gift exchange; here he was suggesting the opposite. Still, Janus would avoid voicing his notice of the suspicious behavior until after the gift exchange, hopefully when Remus was being distracted bothering someone else.
There was little fanfare to the way Janus took the gifts from his side, passing Logan his while throwing Remus’ down towards him, fairly certain he would catch it. They were both decent in size, but nothing so over-the-top as to arouse suspicion. Just normal gifts for normal friends that mean nothing more in hidden messages.
“Janus, this is very kind. I hadn’t even had time to think about purchasing them myself.” In his hand were the discs for the Ace Attorney trilogy. The two of them had a conversation, months ago now, about the games and the fascinating introspective look into the Japanese court system they provided. When Logan had admitted to never actually playing the games himself, simply watching video essays about them online, Janus had been quick to suggest they could go through them together one day. In all seriousness the comment hadn’t been something he intended to come back to, but as the holiday season rolled around, he found himself compelled. It was a fun experience that incorporated learning new information, all of which was right up Logan’s alley. And if he happened to be allowed to watch and use it as an excuse to spend more time around the other, then that was nobody’s business but his own.
“Oh Jannie, you shouldn’t have!” Remus, coincidentally, had also been given something video game related. His old DDR mat had been torn to all hell—Janus was pretty sure Remus had been stepping on live wires the last time the two had played. So, a new mat.
“I definitely didn’t make it slip-proof either so it would be sturdier and last longer.”
“Oh, Roman’s gonna kill you for this one.” It was true, Roman hated their DDR sessions.
“Not my fault he’s not great at the game. He really needs to stop being a sore loser every time he fails a level we can both full combo with ease.”
“To be fair, you both are able to full combo level 15’s on that game.”
“Oh, I actually got my first full combo on a level 16 the other day!” Remus spoke with such an enthused grin, and Janus allowed himself a smile as well. It had taken nearly 30 minutes of trying the same song over and over before Remus had gotten it, with Janus sitting on the sideline for moral support after the first attempt or two. He had been so happy when he succeeded.
“Well, hopefully this helps you even more, I can’t wait to see your brother’s face when you really start showing him up.” Of course, Janus had nothing but good will towards his other friend, but right now the grin on Remus’ face was just a tad more important. He wasn’t around to hear, anyway.
“Oh, he’s gonna be—”
The rest of Remus’ statement was cut off by a loud thud, attracting all of their attention yet only making Logan jump.
“What in the world was—”
“Ah, it seems it’s my turn to deliver your gifts.” Logan straightened his tie as he readjusted in his seat, and Janus could have sworn he heard him say “although they could’ve just texted” under his breath.
It seemed Janus wouldn’t be waiting to ask about his suspicious behavior, then. “Logan, what are you up to?”
“And what was the thud?” Remus chimed in.
“Please, just indulge me a moment longer.” He was quick to pass Remus and Janus small packages then, identical in their traditional Christmas blue and silver wrapping from what he could tell. “Go ahead, open them.”
Janus cast a glance in Remus’ direction, not entirely surprised to see him shrug and then move to open his gift, spurring himself to do the same. If his theory was right, whatever he and Remus had was the same thing, and he’d rather not have his gift spoiled because he was watching someone else.
He wasn’t as careful with the paper this time, wrapping it a bit recklessly and pulling the box from beneath. It looked like a box one would use to hold a gift card, but pulling off the lid revealed no such thing. Instead, the words “look outside” were neatly written in Logan’s compact handwriting.
There was a moment of eye contact between Janus and Remus before the latter raced to the window the sound had come from earlier. Janus wasn’t too far behind, if more civilized in his refusal to hop over the couch.
The curtains were pulled back quickly, and very prominently, there was a message splayed out on the lawn, pressed into the fallen snow and definitely large enough for them both to read.
‘Will you both go out with me?’
“I… apologize for the untraditional nature of my gift, if one can even call it that, but I thought this would be the best way for me to ask.”
The attention was back on Logan before he even finished talking, Janus’ face for once not hiding any of his expression, his jaw open and eyes wide in surprise. He…?
“Both of us?” Remus normally had a nasally tone when he spoke, but this wasn’t that. No, there was a tremor in his voice, the same one Janus was sure he would have if he tried to speak right now.
“Yes. I’ve come to develop feelings for both of you, and if I recall properly, you have both expressed that you’re okay with polyamory in the past.”
“That wasn’t your answer, though.” Janus felt the words leave his throat, no accusatory tone behind them. Not really any tone behind them. He was just speaking.
“Not at the time. I didn’t believe polyamory was for me, until I started to develop feelings for both of you. I came to realize that in dating only one of you, it would feel incomplete without the other. When it comes to—ugh—feelings, we all know I’m hardly a master on the subject. But I know what I feel for each of you, and I would like to know if this is something you’d be inclined to explore further.”
“And I thought hiding my feelings was the best answer.”
That came from Remus, somehow. Not himself. Huh.
“Have we all been harboring secret feelings for one another and just not said anything this whole time?”
“Well, I was kinda obvious. I did suggest having sex to both of you multiple times.”
“And we took you very seriously in that offer, Remus, truly.”
“As for myself, I only realized my feelings in their entirety a month or so ago,” Logan said. “Then, I started planning this, so I wasn’t hiding my own, per say.”
“Well then Jannie, what’s your excuse?” Remus was leaning against his shoulder when he asked, face inches away from his own. Just the kind of pressure he needed at that moment.
“Some things are better kept in secret until the time is right.”
“And for you that ‘right time’ would’ve been never. Right, Logan, I think it’s clear enough we both return your feelings and wanna go for polyamory. We can work out all the juicy stuff later.”
“That is acceptable to me. Janus?”
Both sets of eyes were now on him, Remus looking with a mischievous grin and Logan, a soft and hopeful smile.
He nodded.
Remus whooped, and Logan breathed a sigh of relief. “You have no idea how hard it was coordinating with the other three to make this happen.”
“Wait, they were in on it?” He was so glad Remus had backed up before he spoke, because that yell was loud.
“Of course, I needed someone to make the sign while I kept you distracted inside. They’re out there right now waiting for me to text them about your answers. Speaking of which…” Logan was quick to pull his phone out, presumably sending the aforementioned text.
“But how were you planning to get them all here late? It’s Patton’s house, and you couldn’t have known Remus would puncture Roman’s tire.”
“It was for his gift!”
“Yes, well, the original plan was for Roman to just fake having car troubles, requiring Paton to go and pick him up.” As he spoke, Logan adjusted his glasses, the pretty pink that had been coloring his cheeks finally dulling a bit. Shame. “Remus’ pranks just added another level of realism to the whole thing, if annoying Roman in the process. I do find it humorous that he unknowingly contributed to a plan he wasn’t even aware of.”
“I’m right here, you know!”
“Well, we can never be sure what that one will do,” Janus said with a smirk, all too agreeable with continuing the bit.
“You guys are so rude. I deserve cuddles and kisses for this behavior.” The pout on Remus’ face was absolutely adorable.
“I’m afraid we’ll have to hold off on that for now,” Logan said, and Janus noticed he was checking a text on his phone. “It appears our presence is being requested outside as ‘Roman really wants to hit Remus upside the head with a snowball as payback.’”
“Oh, he really thinks he can win a snowball fight? I have a whole harem on my side.”
“Debatable,” Janus chimed in, making his way towards the staircase so he could get to the first floor and into the inevitable snow day they were all about to have.
“The us being a harem thing or you guys being on my side?”
“Both,” answered Logan, and Janus felt he could kiss him right there.
“Hey!”
They made their way outside after only one attempt from Remus to steal Janus’ coat, quickly being enveloped in hugs and congratulations from Patton. Roman and Virgil, it seemed, would be sending their congratulations over later, as they were currently hidden behind a snow wall which Janus was sure had plenty of ammo waiting behind it.
And he never was one to go for the side with a disadvantage now, was he?
Sure, the first acts of his new relationship were now making fun of one of his partners and then abandoning them for the other side in a snowball fight, and he definitely hit Remus right on his mustache with one of them, but honestly, this was who he was. This was the manipulative liar that apparently, both of his crushes had fallen for.
So no, Janus had no problems with his actions. He very much doubted his boyfriends did, either.
