Note
Does ANBU have an initiation ritual? For example, in order to be accepted in, you have to steal a pair of underwear from the home of an enemy shinobi?
There definitely should be such a ritual but no, not that I know of.

So Naruto have so many rival dynamic. Those who stand out the most imo is Naruto vs Sasuke (of course), Kakashi vs Gai, Kakashi vs Obito, and Sakura vs Ino (this one is the silliest one but still rivalry nonetheless). What do you think the difference between them and why Naruto vs Sasuke is such a special "rivalry"?
Firstly, Are they (N and S) really Rivals????
Kakashi Vs Gai is the only Rivalry Bond that was written to be very realistic in this series. Gai challenges him to a duel and Kakashi obliges to it. They even have a count. Like 49-50.... Which means they almost had 100 encounters, which is hilarious. And it was all about their skills but nothing personal. Even in real life, Rivalry just works this way.
Naruto Vs Konohamaru... LOL,... Cute little bubbles, both of them. This is another similar dynamics to Kakashi Vs Gai. Where Konohamaru regularly challenges Naruto time to time and they have competition between them.
Kakashi Vs Obito's rivalry was unexplored and abandoned due to circumstances.
Sakura Vs Ino -- It was all for a Boy. I just don't consider them at all.
However, When it comes to Naruto and Sasuke... It really did gave me the vibe of Rivals in Part 1. Until it's not.
Tumblr media
"They were always waiting for their Rivalry Battle!!"
Even we as an audience, were waiting for this contest because Sasuke has never seen the Battle between Naruto & Kiba, Naruto & Neji. And at this point, Naruto learned to do Rasengan as well.
So, it's quite interesting to see what happens to their Rivalry. But it was stopped by Kakashi, Fortunately.
Tumblr media
And then Sasuke taunts Naruto again in VoTE about that Fight, that was interrupted.
Tumblr media
To which Naruto was clearly regretful about it. "That wasn't the fight I wanted... Even Now"
Naruto, a boy who considers Sasuke as his Rival.... Never invited him for any duel unlike Lee, Gaara... But invited by Sasuke for a duel and he was clearly happy about it (well, Naruto didn't know that Sasuke was fuming inside).... Only to later say that, that was not the Fight I ever wanted.
Like what????
Well, if this wasn't the kind of fight he want to have with Sasuke, then what kind of fight he want anyway???
And the truth is...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ignore Sakura and Kakashi's name from here. Because he agreed to go with Jiraiya only after Jiraiya taunted him that he will take Sasuke instead and teach him a better Jutsu than Chidori. And also, Sakura liking him means 'Giving him the same amount of attention as she gives for Sasuke'... Not in a Romantic sense.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
LOL....
Naruto’s entire journey to become Stronger was solely fueled by Sasuke’s Existence.
That's because,
Tumblr media
And this important person to Naruto was VAGUELY MENTIONED IN BOLD TEXT AS TO WHO IT IS.
In Part 1, When Naruto was fighting Gaara because he took Sakura as his hostage,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"I don't know how far I can go or how much I can do, But.... I'm gonna give it everything I've Got!!'
He actually gave his everything and could make 4 Kage Bunshins.
However,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Sasuke acknowledged that he is also his Precious Comrade and he can save Sakura and he was willing to act as a decoy even if it means death....
[[Click on the picture to see the outlined words]]
Tumblr media
“To Protect someone Important.... Naruto becomes even Stronger”
And that someone is Sasuke without a doubt. And he could make 1000 Kage Bunshins just like that as  compared to just 4 Kage Bunshins he made earlier to save Sakura. This is very similar to the War Arc, where Sasuke motivated Naruto and N got all fired up.
Naruto wants to impress Sasuke by proving him that he is an Equal and also he is capable of protecting and saving Sasuke, the Princess... Oops... the Heroine.... Sorry..... His Friend from any Danger. This is not called Rivalry, not in any planet. This is simply called Love.

All of the times Naruto knew she danced and the one time he didn't.
part two.
The second time Naruto noticed Hinata dancing it was purely by accident. Well, that and Kiba. Naruto had been having a pretty average night. Ichiraku's and just walking around the village waving and smiling at the occasional passerby. That all ended when Naruto was practically clotheslined by Kiba who in his excitement hardly stopped as he raced towards the poor blonde, with Akumaru and Lee right at his heels.
“Kiba what the hell?!”
“Naruto, you're just the man we’ve been looking for! Come on we’ve got a mission!” Kiba yelled sounding half drunk as he and Lee both slung an arm around him forcing him to walk with them.
“What really? Kakashi- Sensei sent you to get me?” Naruto asked skeptically. after all, he'd just seen the man walking out of a bookstore not thirty minutes earlier.
“Not a real mission idiot! I mean we need to gather all the guy's stat! The girls have decided to go out for a night of drinking and partying and didn’t invite us!”
“They are celebrating their youthfulness in such an admirable way we too must accept the challenge and join in!  Lee added his eyes sparkling in admiration.
“Hm… Now that you mention it, I was surprised when Sakura turned down hanging out tonight- she did say she was busy.”
“Yeah busy having fun without us! And what’s worse they dragged poor Hinata-chan out with them.” Kiba lamented as he grabbed fistfuls of Naruto’s jacket shaking him in a dramatic fashion. Naruto pushed him off, dusting his jacket down and making sure no one had seen Kiba’s antics. But finally agreed to go along with him and Lee. It had been weeks since the last time any of the rookie nine had spent time together and the desire to be around friends was palpable.
Setting off they gathered the rest of the boys. Shino and Shikamaru could be heard muttering about unfortunate luck, but Naruto could tell they were secretly glad to be out. Choji and Sai were also more than happy to be invited Choji joined in on Kiba and Lee’s rabblerousing and Sai just smiled. Happy to be invited.
"How did you even find out that the girls were going out?" Naruto asked as they made their way to a rowdy bar.
“What kind of ninja would I be if I couldn’t figure out -
“He forced Hinata-chan to tell him, she was very reluctant, why? Because the girls wanted to keep it a secret.
"Aw Shino, why do you have to be so mean? You're my teammate you should have my back. " Kiba whined as the rest of the boys laughed. pulling back the flaps to enter the rowdy club.
“Hey, I know this song!” Kiba suddenly shouted as they made their way towards the bar. Turning his head towards the stage to get a look at the band.
“You do?” Naruto was surprised at Kiba’s admission. While they sounded fine so far, it was hard to imagine Kiba enjoying this type of music, with their very distinct sound. Naruto was also sure he’d never heard of the band's name before, as he read the sign hanging on the bar wall he doubted Kiba knew of them due to popularity.
“Yeah, Hinata loves this band!” Kiba sighed realizing now why the girls chose this bar for the night.
“What? no way!” A chorus of disbelief was shouted out by the rest of the group.
“I’m telling the truth I’ve heard this damn song more times than I could ever want to.”
“This doesn’t sound like anything Hinata-chan would listen to,” Choji muttered as he stroked his chin in thought.
“Ah, Hinata-chan truly is the pinnacle of youth!” Lee nodded sagely as he turned his attention towards the music hoping to gain Hinata’s understanding.
“No way! You’re out of your mind Hinata would never listen to a band like this.” Naruto exclaimed trying hard to imagine Hinata listening to loud blaring music.
“It’s true, why? Because she is up near the front of the stage dancing right now.” Shino answered quietly as he pointed to the massive crowd that had formed. Naruto whipped his head around scanning the crowd and sure enough, there in the front row stood Hinata. He could only watch mesmerized, as Hinata bounced from side to side as she reached her arms out above her head.
Her face was flushed whether from the exertion, the alcohol, or both he couldn’t tell but it left her looking like she was glowing. Her hair was plastered around her face and moving wildly behind her back, accidentally hitting Tenten in the face on occasion. But Tenten unbothered merely laughed, reaching over to grab Hinata’s hand spinning her around and around as Ino cheered them on. Sakura was also moving in sync with the music but had turned towards the bar spotting the boys as she began to make her way through the crowd.
“What are you guys doing here?” Sakura yelled over the noise as she neared.
“Guys night. What about you?” Kiba offered as nonchalantly as possible. Causing the other guys in the group to groan. Kiba for all his merits was a terrible actor especially when already drunk. Sakura eyed him suspiciously no doubt knowing he was the culprit of the sudden appearance of the group but chose instead to ignore it.
“Hinata had mentioned coming to listen so we all decided to come.”
“Hinata chose to come here?” Naruto asked in disbelief as he turned back to watch the petite woman mouthing along to the lyrics. It suddenly occurred to him that he’d never heard Hinata sing before and felt a desperate need to do so now. He felt his body moving on its own before he was stopped rather forcibly by Sakura.
“Oh no you don’t! You’re not gonna ruin this night now.”
“What do you mean ruin? I just wanna go say hi to Hinata-chan!”  Naruto yelled back defensively but Sakura held her ground, poking Naruto in the chest to make a point as she hollered over the music
“Say hi to her tomorrow! Tonight is girl’s night!”
“No fair! Naruto complained as Sakura merely grinned, ordered a set of drinks for the girls, and went back down to the stage area. The rest of the guys shrugged it off, not minding having their own night. But Naruto couldn’t help but find his eyes searching for Hinata all night. This dancing was much different from the one she’d shown him only a few months before and he wondered just where she learned it from.
He realized rather suddenly that he wasn’t the only one who was keeping an eye on her. Noticing creep after creep staring and pointing at the Hyuga he felt a growing annoyance as he watched grown men try to slip behind Hinata and dance with her. Using his shadow clones he ignored the smirks and snickers as he sent his clones to quietly and sneakily get rid of the unwanted add-ons. One of his clones had caught Sakura’s eye but she merely rolled her own at her best friend’s antics before turning back around and enjoying the show.
Hinata never seemed to notice the helping hand, instead of focusing on the band before her. Unfortunately, for Naruto, it seemed that the band’s lead singer had also had his focus solely on Hinata. Because suddenly he was leaning forward on the stage stretching his hand out to Hinata motioning for her to get onto the stage. Hinata gasped and shook her head not expecting to be singled out. However, Ino being the conspirator that she was shoved Hinata forward causing the girl to grab onto the extended hand for support or risk falling. With an easy tug, he had Hinata jumping onto the stage with him. The crowd went wild and Hinata’s cheeks, already flushed from dancing and drinks, turned even redder.
Naruto was about to rescue her when the singer leaned away from the mic whispering in her ear. Naruto felt heat rising from his chest as his eyes narrowed trying to make out what exactly the guy was saying. Whatever it was, he was disappointed to see that it worked because suddenly Hinata was closing her eyes and letting the melody of the song take control.
Her body easily found the rhythm once more and she was off. Dancing all over the stage she even used some of her ninja training to flip and spin in the air from time to time. Naruto could only look on in pure amazement as she moved her hips in ways he’d never seen before. He also could only look on helplessly as his friend moved closer and closer to the lead singer. Moving in sync with the man and even letting him pull her close to him moving their hips together. Naruto wanted to strangle somebody and wondered if for a moment Neji’s ghost had possessed him to save his poor cousin from that man’s evil clutches. Wanting to honor Neji’s memory he went to take a step forward but was once again thwarted. Cursing he spun around glaring accusingly at Shikumaru who simply shrugged not releasing his shadow possession jutsu as he took a slow sip of the alcohol in his hands. Luckily the song was winding down and apparently so was the set. He watched as Hinata shook every band member's hand before jumping down off the stage to get back to her friends. Sakura herded them towards the booth that the boys had been occupying and a chorus of relief at having a space to sit and catch their breath was sung out.
“Hinata-chan you were amazing, such youthfulness is awe-inspiring!” Lee yelled overheads to a beaming Hinata.
“That was impressive Hinata!”  Choji nodded along as he handed the girl a bottle of water, which she gladly took. Hinata was as red as a cherry as she continuously bowed her head in embarrassment and thanks. Naruto watched as Kiba and Shino grabbed hold of her and squeezed her, proudly telling her how awesome she was and how proud they were of her. Hinata hugged them back tightly, thanking them with a giddy laugh in her voice. Sai merely smiled at Hinata before turning to ask Ino why she didn’t dance like that earning an elbow to the stomach. Shikamaru shook his head, a grin spreading at the antics happening around him as he fished for a cigarette out of his carton.
Naruto was about to offer his own support and amazement when suddenly Hinata was being pulled away from him. Annoyed, Naruto turned to whine about the unfair treatment when he stopped. It was the singer from the band standing there with his arm wrapped casually around Hinata's shoulders. He was trying to pull Hinata away from the group as he whispered in her ear. Naruto felt his eyes narrow and his jaw clenching as he watched as  Ino was motioning wildly behind the guy giving Hinata a big thumbs up, mouthing out the words “he’s hot” towards Hinata.
Hinata looked mortified but nodded her head slowly. Naruto couldn’t tell if the nod was towards whatever the creep was saying or if it was in agreement with Ino’s declaration and Naruto couldn’t tell which option he hated more. Still, he sat glaring over the rest of the girls' heads at the man who seemed not to care he had interrupted something. Silently listening to the conversation.
“If you’d like to spend the rest of the evening with us, my band and I are going to go bar hopping.”
“Thank you for your offer, but I think I’ll stay and listen to the rest of the bands with my friends.” Naruto’s ears perked up at Hinata's voice. Not fighting the unabashed grin spreading across his face Naruto chuckled at the startled look on the singer’s face at being turned down. A look of annoyance briefly flashed in the man’s eyes but before he could lash out Hinata continued.
“It was amazing getting to dance on stage with you.  I can see why you love to perform the way you do. I thank you for the kindness you’ve shown me, I will always treasure this experience.” Hinata smiled brightly at the man before shocking everyone and leaning forward to kiss the guy on the cheek.
Naruto felt his smile once again drop as he stared incredulously at the scene before him.  The girls giggled and whistled towards the two causing Hinata to twirl around and give the feeblest of glares. The boys all smirked casting sly glances toward the blonde who seemed to be only focused on the couple in front of him.
The singer blinked once, then twice, before smiling lazily and shrugging. Stepping back away from the group as he called back over his shoulder towards Hinata. “Trust me the pleasure was all mine. If you change your mind, we’ll be in the village all week.”
Naruto watched until the man was completely out of the bar before he turned to look back at Hinata, who was still smiling at the events that had just occurred. Naruto thought about what to say. Telling her she looked great out there seemed obvious. Everyone else had already got to compliment her and he worried he might just sound like he was parroting off of them.
Besides, hadn’t he told her how great she danced recently? What if it sounded to Hinata- chan that he was in disbelief? He didn’t want to insult her.  But he didn’t want to not say anything!  He found himself wanting to talk, a lot. His tongue was practically pressing against his teeth desperate to speak. Before he could think of what he was saying he leaned in close to Hinata speaking loudly to be heard over the next set that had started playing.
“So I guess you really like that band?”  Lame. Naruto wanted to slap himself. Cringing at his own stupidity, how lame and boring could you get? He was hoping Hinata would just nod and ignore his dumb question, focus on all of the other attention she was receiving so he could just sulk back into the booth. But of course, Hinata would never ignore somebody. She was too nice to do that. She blinked once as she processed the words no doubt still feeling the effects of alcohol, then nodded her head vigorously.
“Yes, I actually found out about them on a mission, a girl we were escorting kept talking about the band. As soon as we completed the mission I went to the local music shop and found their cd. I must have listened to it for a month straight! poor Neji-nii was ready to break it I think!” Hinata giggled as she thought back to Neji’s ire at having to hear the cd replaying for the third time during a training session.  The fondness in her voice soothed Naruto’s growing discomfort and he found himself laughing at the thought of Neji having to meditate and focus while pop-punk was blasting out into the courtyard.
Naruto and Hinata moved closer to each other to speak and suddenly all the worry Naruto had felt vanished. They laughed and shared thoughts on music while both promising to listen to each other's favorite songs. As they talked neither noticed the rest of the group leaving quietly, giving them privacy and time alone as they all made their way to another bar wanting to give their two friends a moment but not quite ready to end the evening themselves. It wasn’t until the new set had ended that Naruto and Hinata even realized they were alone.
“Oh no, I hope they aren’t mad at us,” Hinata whispered feeling like she had betrayed girls' night. Naruto was rather grateful for the departure but still, he felt it was only fair to offer Hinata a solution. Quickly using sage mode he found the group.
“They went to the next bar over, I can walk you over there if you want. I think that guy from the band you like is there too if you wanted to take him up on his offer to hang out. But if you don’t we can stay here, or I can walk you home if you are ready to go.
Hinata pondered on his offer for a minute and Naruto felt his heart sink at the thought of her wanting to go find that guy again. However, Hinata slowly shook her head.
“No, I'll just apologize to the girls tomorrow. As much fun as it was dancing on stage, I don’t want to give him the wrong impression. I’m happy to be a fan from afar.” Naruto looked back up at the girl sitting beside him. shock and relief filled him at the knowledge she didn’t want to go see the singer again.
“Well do you want me to walk you home then?” Naruto asked standing up from the booth to allow her to slide out as well. Hinata did so but stopped and cocked her head to the side for a moment, before turning back to Naruto with a small mischievous smile on her face.
“Naruto-kun, if it’s all right with you, I’m not ready to leave yet. You see there’s another band that’s playing tonight that I like as well. Would you like to stay and listen with me?”
Naruto watched as she squeezed her eyes tightly shut and brought her hands clasped closely towards her face in a silly plea. cute! Naruto thought as turned his face to the side to hide the blush that formed as he agreed to her request.
Cheering and feeling emboldened by the events of the night Hinata grasped Naruto’s hand, practically pulling the man towards the dance floor. Naruto didn’t even bother to pretend to fight it, eagerly following Hinata. He couldn’t help but think how nice and warm her hand felt and silently hoped his hand felt that way as well.
Hinata was once again down in front of the stage dancing. But this time the actual Naruto was dancing right along beside her, and he had no intention of letting anyone else steal her away for the night.

In Your Warmth
A/N: Okay, I made a quick, short fic on this scenario I was imagining a while ago. I couldn’t get it off my mind so I knew I had to write it down. Hope you all like it! (Also a warning: it’s actually very self-indulgent, and I might have inserted myself a bit LOL). This wasn’t beta-read, sorry! Please be nice T_T
Kakashi x FemReader, Canon Universe (After the war, maybe?)
Warnings: none
Fluff, fluff and more fluff, First Kiss, Kissing
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The sun bathed the sky with a warm, brilliant orange tint, and it turned everything it touched inhabiting beneath the heavens with the same hue. It made everything look beautiful, and because of it, it had made the village you had always loved and known more endeared to you. The sun’s warmth made it look like a setting from a movie -- the place being more warm, inviting and cozy than it already was. It casted a warm glow on both of your clothes and skins, causing you both to fit in the movie scene, and if only you weren’t aware that this was reality, you would have thought it actually was.
As you walked side by side, your hand accidentally -- although much to your delight -- brushed against his. The growing warmth in your face doubled the heat you felt caused by the sun. You thought if this had affected him, too. You couldn’t really tell from the cloth covering half of his face, but as you stole a glance, the soft, contented look on his eyes told you it did.
You didn’t know how it started, but you just felt it grow, anyway. The harmless admiration that had turned into unrequited infatuation for quite some time eventually turned into mutual respect. It slowly progressed into fondness and sympathy, which lately blossomed into understanding and affection. It had grown deep. You couldn’t describe it, but you just knew. You knew he did; you both did. It was never spoken between the two of you, but you knew it was there. At times you might have doubted if it was reciprocated, but when he invited you for a walk that late afternoon with just the two of you alone, quickly the doubts had wholly dissipated.
It was a nice day, and he wanted to watch the sunset. Maybe you wanted to take a walk with him, he had asked. He just came home from a mission earlier that afternoon, and even though you initially protested that he rest at home, he smiled and assured you he wanted to unwind with you instead. As you both passed by Izumo and Kotetsu sitting behind the guard post, they acknowledged you both, waving cheerily and giving Kakashi mischievous looks and a playful salute. You couldn’t suppress your giggle as you notice a blush forming on his exposed skin.
He led you to the edge of a forest just outside the village. You noticed there were a few benches installed along the way, but there weren’t anyone else in the place besides you two. It was an unpopular place, he said, and only a few people ever stayed much there. But the view in the late afternoon was beautiful, and he had always spent most of his afternoons here. You wondered that in the long time that you had known each other, he had never shown you this place before.
You both stopped by the bench, and with a smile, he motioned for you to sit down. You took your seat, and he sat beside you, a bit too near for comfort yet still providing a considerable distance between you two. From the corner of your eye, you saw his hand rest on top of the backrest, and you could feel the fabric of his sleeves barely touching the skin on your neck. You weren’t sure if it was an invitation, but you felt the atmosphere change. You didn’t know if it was just the warmth that the setting sun emanated, but everything felt so cozy, and you scooted over next to him, resting your back against his side and your head on his shoulder. You felt his body suddenly turn rigid, but you continued to gaze at the view before you, settling comfortably against his body. Eventually, you turned your head to look at him, and you saw him staring at you as if he didn’t know what to do. You gave him a tender smile, and you felt his body relax, his eyes returning your tender gaze and his arm behind you finally curling around your shoulders.
The sun was now setting lower, and the view before you was sublime. There was now a red tint added to the orange hue of the sky, and the sun blazed majestically on the horizon. You marveled at the scene’s beauty, and you couldn’t help but let out a soft sigh of content.
“It’s beautiful,” you breathed, enamored by the view before you.
“Yeah. It is…” you heard him softly say, and if only you weren’t too engrossed with the scenery, you would have caught him looking at you instead of at the sky.
Pleasant thoughts were suddenly cut short as you felt fabric barely touching your cheek. You froze, and through the fabric, a warm breath caressed your skin. Both of you didn’t move. Time passed for what seemed like an eternity, until finally, you felt the fabric touch your cheek, accompanied by what felt like warm lips hiding behind it.
It lingered for a while on your skin until you felt it pull away from you. You moved your head slowly and turned to look at him, moving to settle more comfortably on his shoulder. There was now only a small distance between your faces, and for a long moment, you were both staring at each other’s eyes rather intensely.
After a while, his eyes searched your face, looking for signs of hesitation. You wished he would just return his gaze at you, and when he did, you held his gaze piercingly, making sure to communicate your feelings of longing and affection. He took this as a sign of affirmation, and as he leaned in closer, he slowly pulled down his mask. You heard yourself softly gasp at the sight, but he didn’t give you more time to take in the view as you felt his warm lips pressed against yours.
He moved his lips delicately… softly, as if he was afraid to break you. His kiss was tender yet firm, with a gentle authority as if to say that you were his, and he was yours. His palm rested in between your jaw and cheek, and he cradled it ever so gently. You reciprocated the kiss just as tenderly and sweetly, and you found your hand trailing towards the back of his neck, softly grabbing the hair just above his nape. He let out a soft, content sigh against your mouth, and you felt his hand tenderly hold your waist, and with your other hand, you did the same to his.
You broke away from the kiss and smiled against his lips. So you were right, he did return the feelings, after all. You knew there was a mutual understanding even before, but you couldn’t help but feel elated at this culmination of your mutual pining. It always felt like he was so hesitant before, and you knew that he wanted you as much as you wanted him. But you never really pushed him nor pressured him into acting. With everything that had happened in his life, you knew he deserved to have time and space to think about everything. And you waited for him patiently, and with that unwavering patience, you were rewarded so greatly.
“Why did I wait this long?” he murmured against your lips, and he moved them again, placing another sweet kiss on your upper lip, slowly moving downwards towards your lower lip. You couldn’t help but giggle, and you pulled away just slightly, staring tenderly at him. You took in the sight of his face -- his perfect nose, his thin yet soft lips, the scar that ran down to his cheek, and the adorable mole on his chin. You cupped his cheek with your hand, your thumb grazing his skin. You had always thought he was good-looking even with the mask, but you never imagined he could be this handsome. You continued to stare at his face, and as he watched you, his lips curved into an amused smile.
The sun had nearly set fully in the horizon. Indeed, he was stupid to have let it drag on, you mused to yourself. And yet you knew that you were more foolish. Deep inside, no matter how long it would take him to confess, you knew you would still wait for him. And if he had asked you again to wait a little bit more, you knew you would. Perhaps, it was a fault; you had always loved him. There was really no one else but him.

I’m big sad this week can I please get some kakairu fic or HC I don’t care I just wanna talk haha but it’s kakashi falling in love with iruka because he’s just so thoughtful to kakashi specifically. Say, kakashi is always late because he’s got to eat and sleep and water his plant and feed the strays behind his complex and he’s (chakra) exhausted the works.
No one ever notices (besides gai ofc but they’ve been friends forever) but then he meets and becomes friends with iruka. And iruka notices. Iruka will take a subpar report from kakashi after hard missions and just give him a Pat on the shoulder and a smile, he will drop by with extra bentos to keep in the fridge and take off without a second thought since he was dropping off bentos (that he bought we know that man can’t cook) at narutos anyway. Gets kakashi a water globe for his plant so he doesn’t have to worry about him on missions.
But the thing that really does it for kakashi the holy shit I might love this man moment is when kakashi is dragging himself home after a super hard mission that went over by weeks and he goes to feed the strays behind the complex and finds iruka feeding them hunched over in this dirty dark alley feeding dogs what looks like his dinner for the night shift and.. is that the new icha icha from the release he missed in his hands?? Iruka got it for him since he was gone and knew how much kakashi likes them and that’s it kakashi is in love now thank you
//here’s to a hopefully more enjoyable, relaxed week coming up :)
AO3
It wasn’t unheard of for a mission to go on longer than it had been planned. Things happened, changes had to be made to the attack plan, sometimes the team. There were a variety of reason’s for a missions to take an extra few hours, or a day or two more.
But a week?
Only the worst missions went overtime by a week.
The one’s where the information was poor, or sometimes even completely wrong. Where the mission lead had to stop and fix up the plan in one or two areas, but had to start completely from scratch.
And just his luck, he had been the mission lead. The poor bastard who had to rethink the mission from scratch when it turned out that they had been lied to by the person who had come to them wanting ‘help’.
What they really wanted, apparently, was a chance to present some unsuspecting leaf shinobi to Some IWA shinobi in waiting.
Luckily for them, Kakashi was quick to realize that things were out of place and even quicker to come up with a new plan. One that only needed him and Gai, and an extra week of waiting time.
It worked in the end. Of course it did.
After waiting for the enemy to finally let their guards down, Kakashi and Gai were able to make their way into the camp they had made for themselves and get the scroll they had been sent for. One they had thought was just used as a trick to get them there, but found out through some careful spying on Kakashi’s part did actually exist.
Now they were home.
Aching and tired, but home.
Seeing Gai off, Kakashi headed straight for the little ally behind the apartments he lived in. Nothing called out to him quite like a nice shower, and a long nap in bed, but he had to check up on the strays before then.
Poor things hadn’t seen him all week, and he’s certain there’s no one else who feeds them. Most of the other jonin simply pick a favorite and take them into their apartment, or leave food out for them on the window ledge.
Kakashi took care of the rest of them.
“Here we go,” hearing a familiar voice, Kakashi stopped just before the entrance into the alleyway, unsure why exactly his heart was beating so fast now. “Eat up. You’ll get to see your favorite tomorrow. He just had a long mission and he needs some rest. But I have no doubt he’ll be here to see you as soon as he can.”
Peering around the side of the wall, Kakashi felt a warmth spreading in his chest when he saw Iruka. Sweet, kind Iruka. Kneeling down and pouring dry food into the bowls Kakashi had set out months ago.
"He does a lot for this village, you know," Iruka continued, and Kakashi couldn't help but linger and listen. "One of Konoha's top Jonin, so he's always going on missions to protect the village, gather information, help people out. There's a lot for him to do."
Leaning his shoulder against the wall, Kakashi smiled to himself.
For a few months now Iruka had been helping him out. Noticing little things about him and providing information or objects to make his life just a little bit easier.
A water bulb for Mr. Ukki so he didn't have to worry about going on missions and killing his only plant.
Bento boxes that he promised he bought from a store when he noticed Kakashi hadn't eaten that day. Not because he couldn't cook for himself, but because sometimes life just got too busy. There was soo much to do that often he'd find himself forgetting to feed himself while he tried to finish mission reports, or plan out training exercises for his students.
Kakashi hadn't thought about it much then. Simply thanking Iruka and moving on with his life.
But now, standing here listening to Iruka gush about him to the strays while he fed them in Kakashi's absence. Kakashi can't help but feel something deep inside of his chest.
Something he can't quite explain. It's warm and fuzzy, and it makes his heart skip a beat whenever Iruka continues talking, but he doesn't have a word for it. It's not something he has ever felt before.
"So be nice to him, hmmm?" Iruka continued, chuckling when one of the dogs barked. "I know he has to be gone a lot, but I'll take care of you when he's out of the village. I promise."
Poking his head around the corner, Kakashi chuckled when the dogs saw him and immidiatly started to bark, forgoing their food to run over to him instead for pets.
"K-kakashi," Iruka stood up, clearly caught off guard by Kakashi's sudden appearance. "I...how long were you standing there?"
"Mmmm, long enough I think," Kneeling down, he started to pet each of the dogs while keeping his eyes on Iruka. "I didn't know you made a habit of looking after Jonin's life responsibilities while they were gone, Iruka-sensei."
"I-" It was sort of cute seeing Iruka all flustered. with wide bright eyes and fingers that wouldn't stop pulling at his uniform sleeve. "I don't usually..."
"Well, I need some rest," Giving the dogs one more head pat he stood up and smiled. A warm, soft smile hidden under his mask. "But, since you've done so much for me I should pay you back."
"Oh, no you don't have to," Iruka waved his hands in front of himself franticly. "I was just- i wanted to make sure-"
"How about dinner?" Kakashi had a calm look on his face, and his voice was as bored sounding as ever. To an untrained eye, he likely looked like he was simply inviting a friend to go out.
Internally, though, he was freaking out.
His heart was hammering in his chest, going so fast that it actually sort of hurt. His stomach was a mess of knots and butterfly's, and his brain was going five hundred miles a minute. Thinking up all the ways Iruka could reject him, and screaming at himself for even making the offer like a love sick idiot.
Love.
That was the word he had been looking for earlier.
Minato-sensei had described the feeling to him years ago. When he was younger and confused about the way Obito acted around Rin, or why Rin was always trying to get close to him.
He was in love, and out of everyone his heart could have chosen, it went with Umino Iruka.
"That sounds nice, actually," Iruka whispered, glancing down at the ground while running a hand awkwardly through his hair. "Umm, where would you like to..."
"I'll make it," he smiled, now determined to make the best first impression. "My apartment, tomorrow evening. And don't worry about the dogs, i'll make sure to feed them before dinner."
He doesn't wait for a response. Disappearing into a whirlwind of dust he make's his escape. Desperate to get back to his apartment and collapse onto his bed and scream into his pillow like a twelve year old whos crush just called them 'cute'.

Chapter Four | I Take A Liking To Lilac All Of A Sudden
Pairing: Lotor x Reader (There you go)
Genre: Angst? I don't knowww
Warnings: Mentions of cancer, mild swearing
Word Count: 1,676
Author’s Note: This is kind of a filler? I can't write long shit in one sitting, so. It's important to reader and lotor's relationship, tho.
Tumblr media
‘Good luck. Come back alive, all of you, alright?’ I asked, my eyes roving over the three people standing before me – Matt, Pidge, and Shiro. ‘It’s, like, one of the simplest things you could do. You give Lotor, you get Mr. Holt. Simple. Very simple and easily doable. Right?’ My gaze dragged over all of them once more as I picked at my nails nervously. As much as I was aware of the fact that this trade wasn’t simple and easily doable, I knew that I would legitimately have a nervous breakdown if I didn’t spew lies through my teeth.
Shiro smiled at me lightly. ‘Of course. I’ll make sure nothing goes wrong. You guys take care too.’
‘If, however, anything happens,’ Allura chided, ‘the other lions will arrive as soon as possible.’
‘Yeah,’ Pidge said with a wry smirk, ‘so try not to pass out.’
‘Okay,’ I nodded my head rapidly, ‘yeah, okay, I – I can do that.’
‘Good. Well, we’ll get going then,’ Shiro announced, and turned around, the others following him.
Hopefully, all would go well.
. . . . .
You know what? Everything actually went relatively well. Yes, my hunch turned out to be correct and Zarkon chose to go through with the ‘I was lying all along! Bwahahaha!’ route and ended up getting himself killed at the hands of his son, but overall, I’d say it was a win-win, seeing that we got Pidge’s father back (thank God, who knows what havoc she’d wreak if we ended up not getting Sam back) and the evil maniacal tyrant who’d been ruling over the universe for ten thousand years died.
The one downside was that now there needed to be a new Emperor, because following Zarkon’s death, not only the Galra empire, but simultaneously the entire universe had gone into a state of chaos too. There was no doubt that underlings and generals would try to take over smaller parts of the empire, and once that happened, Voltron being able to do anything would be a stretch.
And, according to Lotor, a ceremony to crown the new emperor, the Kral Zera, would now be taking place. Once he said that, he really didn’t need to say more – it was obvious what his implications were. A new emperor was to be crowned, and if Voltron was to achieve peace, Lotor would have to go and secure the throne. It was a sensible thought to be had, no problem. The thing was, to reach the Kral Zera, which was taking place in two days, in itself was a decision to be taken with utmost thought. The Paladins just didn’t have enough time to decide.
On the one hand, Shiro and Lotor were adamant that the latter be crowned emperor; the other Paladins, however, were justifiably hesitant. I had been standing there listening to them going back and forth, not saying a word myself, like always.
To be honest, I just wanted to go sleep. For some reason, I’d been feeling overly anxious these past few days. White was still not responding to me, I was having regular dreams about the day I woke up here. It was always that one day, that first conversation I had with Shiro. It was as if my subconsciousness too wanted me to reach out to Shiro because there was clearly something weird going on with him.
My suspicions only solidified when I heard Shiro’s voice boom through the room. My head snapped up. Lance with a look of shock and the slightest bit of fear on his face, Shiro’s visage twisted with uncharacteristic anger.
‘Shiro. I think you should just relax a little.’ The man turned to me, brows pinched.
‘I am relaxed -’
‘No, I really think you aren’t… so, like… take it easy, yeah?’ I asked, jumping my eyebrows, arms still folded in front of me, maintaining a calm yet defensive posture. I could feel the entire room’s gazes on me. After all, I almost never spoke in such discussions, or any discussions, really, and indirectly opposing Shiro, of all people, was way too brave a thing for me to do.
Shiro looked at me with slight disbelief, a glint in his eye challenging me to speak up. ‘You want me to take it easy? Take it easy? The fate of the universe depends on this, taking it easy is really not an option right now. I’ve put my foot down – as the Leader of Voltron, I’ve taken this decision. You aren’t someone befitted to oppose me.’
Ok, wow. Everyone shared the same opinion apparently, as now the silence seemed piercing. Clicking my tongue, I tilted my head. ‘Well, maybe not as a Paladin, which I’m not, or a member of the coalition. But as a friend, Shiro, you’ve been acting strange. Everyone realises this. You realise this. … Maybe, I don’t know… maybe all this reflecting on you’ve been doing, maybe the role of leader is taking a toll on you? I, heh,’ I chuckle, ‘I really am not sure. But you’re not relaxed, and you’re not acting yourself.’
‘Could you please not tell me how to be a Paladin?’
‘While you all waste time squabbling, sinister forces are conspiring to fill the Galra power void. If I don’t return to claim the throne, there’s no telling who will.’
Does being royalty instantly make you a hundred times more dramatic? Sinister forces? Deadass?
I walked out.
. . . . .
Shiro went behind our back.
Yeah.
Acting like a complete bitch, he took Lotor to the Kral Zera, where, for your information, he could’ve been blown up. By Keith.
I wanted to deck Shiro. Instead, I visited White. I had hopes she’d respond to me, since I’d been brave and spoken my mind. I prayed on all the Gods and Deities above that my expectations became reality.
Yeah, they didn’t. She didn’t budge. The whole entire two goddamned hours I sat in front of White, she ignored me. Frustrated, I ended up punching her, resulting in bleeding knuckles. Lotor saw that, by the way. He seemed to always be keeping an eye on White, regardless of me being there or not, which I admit is a little strange, but I wasn’t judging. These aliens seemed to worship the Lions.
Lotor also invited us to the Galra headquarters, and lord oh my lord, was it fancy. Allura had gone off to do research with Lotor (I’d been about to make a joke about what “research” those two were really about to do, if you catch my drift, but then I saw Lance looking at the pair glumly, and thought better of it. I’d lightly punched Lance on the shoulder, and raised my eyebrows so as to say ‘They’re gorgeous aliens who could give Bella Hadid and Harry Styles a run for their money, it can’t be helped.’ He laughed.) I accompanied Hunk, Lance and Pidge in their shenanigans for a while, but ended up wandering around the place.
Space was beautiful. Even through a window, I wanted to just stare at it for as long as I could, enjoying a show more realistic than ever before. It was really similar to all the Marvel movies I’d watched; I felt a weird sense of pride at that realization. I remembered how I’d cried at the end of Infinity War, my friends clinging to me and bawling as well; how loud I’d squealed at an absolutely steamy piece of Kakashi fanart Cory had drawn; how happy I’d been when Sasha, my neighbour and childhood friend, had come out victorious after battling cancer for years.
I hadn’t realized when the tears had started slipping down my cheeks. I wiped at them, but they wouldn’t go. Sniffling and wiping so furiously my skin would get burned when I heard footsteps, I turned to see Lotor approaching me.
‘Hey -’ shit, my voice was so thick. Clearing my throat obnoxiously loud, I greeted him again. ‘Hey, uh… what… how’s yours and Allura’s research going?’
‘The research has been going quite smoothly.’
‘Hmm. Nice.’
Lotor was staring – no, correction - scrutinising me. I could feel it, his intense as hell eyes burning into the side of my face. I wasn’t going to give up, though. I stared at the window with as much concentration as he me.
He was the first to speak up. Ha.
‘You’re not of the Paladins.’
‘Really? I didn’t know, thanks,’ I still wasn’t looking at him.
‘Deepest apologies if I offended you -’
‘You didn’t, it’s okay.’
‘…’
‘…’
‘…If you wish to answer, why do you appear… distant, compared to the other Paladins? You say they are your friends, but there’s such scarce interaction… you seem acquaintances at best.’
‘… They are my friends. I like to think so, because, well… because I don’t have anyone to go back home to.’
‘Oh. My apologies, I didn’t mean to pry.’
‘You didn’t pry, chill. It’s not that my family’s dead or anything, it’s just that… no, well, my family is dead, but… like, they’ve been dead for around three hundred or so years…?’ I turned to Lotor, brows furrowed. He looked less confused than me.
‘Sorry, no, that’s – that’s shit explanation, um… you could say… I… I’ve lived past my time. I’m alive when I’m not supposed to be.’
I didn’t explicitly mention, as you can see, that I was a time traveller, because I wasn’t really one with that fact yet. I’d accepted it, yes, but that didn’t mean I was comfortable with it. It was still a foreign truth, something I didn’t take great joy in talking or thinking about.
When I turned to Lotor, I felt like he’d understood what he needed to already.
It was bizarre. A lilac alien was the last person I would expect to understand me so easily, but it was what it was.

Hi Al ♥️. I think your latest chapter of Neighbourly has to be my favourite one of all. I know i say this all the time, but I really mean it 😂. I have a few questions I was curious about:
• i need to know. On a scale of 1 to 10, how bad do Kakashi's farts smell? Was Sakura being dramatic or was Kakashi's stink bombs really killing her slowly? 😂😂 Kakashi seems so perfect and put together (mostly) that the idea of him giving out rancid farts makes me want to cackle. Makes me wish he did it in front of the parentals.
• “I love you, too,” she said softly before capturing his lips in another, slower and softer kiss. She could feel more than see how stunned he was, though she wasn’t sure if it was her confession or his that had him paralyzed
>>>> Ooh i'm really curious to know why he was stunned? Was it because he was surprised she said she loved him back, or that it slipped out of his mouth? I'm also curious if Kakashi ever would have said it to her unprompted (without a gesture like that or without her saying it first)? Was he waiting for her to tell him first?
• “Ah, don’t worry about it, son,” her father dismissed. Sakura bit into her lip to keep from grinning. She couldn't see Kakashi’s face from where she was standing, but the way his posture stiffened up was very telling
>>>> I am dying to know what went through Kakashi's thoughts here and why he stiffened up!! I was curious if he felt discomfort or anger at the hint of someone trying to replace his father, despite them not knowing, because that feels like something Kakashi would not be above feeling when it comes to treasuring every last presence of his father in his life. Or did he feel something along the lines of relief and a sense of belonging?
• “I’ll bet Obito and Rin are having sex.”
“Doubtful. Five beers and Obito can’t get it up.”
“Why do you know that?” she giggled.
“You don’t wanna know,” he grumbled. “Now, go to sleep,” he said with an abrupt kiss to her forehead.
>>>>> ok ok ok. Okay. I need to know how Kakashi knew that 😂
I really enjoyed this chapter and I can't wait for the final two ♥️. Thanks Al.
hi kurious!! <3 thank youuu im glad u liked it
On a scale of 1 to 10, how bad do Kakashi's farts smell? Was Sakura being dramatic or was Kakashi's stink bombs really killing her slowly?
It's a 9. Our boy is unwell. He avoids dairy like the plague for A REASON and Sakura is truly horrendous for doing this to him, and now she is paying the price. He's rancid. He's not okay and neither is Sakura.
Why he was stunned?
He cannot believe he just blurted it out like that. He's aware of his feelings, and he's confident that Sakura feels the same, so it's not the confession itself that is shocking, but the way it just bursts out of him. Sakura is a pretty mushy, romantic person, so he had it in his head that the first time they say it will be this grand gesture, but instead, they're bickering and Sakura is pouting and there's a Christmas cartoon on.
What went through Kakashi's thoughts when Kizashi called him "son"?
It shocks him. He doesn't react negatively to it, but he's never really had a father-figure, and he's so used to being the outlier in group settings that it's jarring to be so easily accepted. Kizashi doesn't know anything about Kakashi's history, and Kakashi never once felt pitied, nor did he feel excluded. He's also seeing that inviting warmth and openness that draws him to Sakura in Kizashi, so to have him refer to Kakashi so casually with such an endeared term definitely gives him a sense of belonging.
How did Kakashi know about Obito?
They were roomies in college and Obito is an affectionate drunk. Too many times, he crawled into Kakashi's bed for a cuddle, and too many times, Kakashi woke up to Obito's excitement. It took a while, but eventually Kakashi learned that Obito had a threshold of how much he could drink before his dick stops getting hard in his sleep :'')

Let Me Love You
Alright so this is what I’ve been working on for the past week! I hope you enjoy
Summary: Shikamaru never planned to fall for Ino’s best friend, and he definitely never planned to do about it. When he insisted on training with her, he just wanted to make her happy, how does he end up asking to kiss her? He’s surprised to find her heart might have room for him afterall. Lemon.
FFN | AO3
Shikamaru laid on his back on the grass, finally enjoying a bit of relaxation after training with Asuma. He sat back and watched the clouds. Something that always brought him comfort, he always grasped what shred of laziness he could spare these days. Oftentimes now, he took this time to think, instead of blankly staring at the clouds. He reminisced about some of the past times in his life, and how he never got to do this much anymore. Sometimes he thought back on training sessions, and what his squad needed to work on, or tried to think of new formations they could make with their jutsu. Really, at least this time, he was thinking about a certain girl, once again. She was slowly invading his thoughts the last couple weeks, despite how troublesome he found most women.
He thought about all the things that have happened to his team, the Rookie 9, and to her. The Third Hokage was assassinated by his own student. Sasuke took off after the chunin exams to pursue Orochimaru. He even left her unconscious on a bench. Naruto was off training with Jiraiya, with the promise to bring back the person she loved. Kakashi had continually taken long term missions, and seemingly abandoned her to deal with the pain alone. She seemed almost in a limbo, even while she was under the instruction of the Godaime.
He thought more and more about the way things have turned out for his classmates. He could never imagine trying to kill Asuma. Or to leave Ino crying for him, let alone on a bench in the middle of the night. Even if he was well aware the bothersome blonde had no romantic feelings for him, he still couldn’t picture breaking someone like Sasuke had done to Sakura Haruno. How he created so much self-doubt in Naruto. He felt bitter towards the ninja who didn’t even witness the pain he inflicted upon people that Shikamaru was now close to. He could never understand how Sasuke thought power and revenge was more important than his own team.
More important than Sakura. When he had left, there was something in her that broke. He knew it had been her heart, you could see it in the way her smiles hardly reached her eyes anymore. In the way she carried herself now, she seemed to try and keep her emotions more hidden, except for when she was angry or truly hurt. He never realized how much he loved her smile, until she stopped smiling.
Somewhere along the way, Ino had managed to get them to hang out one time. She made an off hand comment about Sakura needing to spend more time with smart people, and joked that he should teach her how to play shogi. When Sakura smiled even as she chastised her friend for getting in her business, he couldn’t resist the idea. Besides, it wouldn’t hurt to have another person to play shogi with, being as his Dad was ever busy, and Asuma couldn’t play as often now. Jounin ninja ever since the attack almost always had a directive from the Fifth if they weren’t training an up-coming squad of ninja.
He sighed softly before resting his eyes and clearing his head. He could never quite truly clear it of the colours of rosy pink hair and teal coloured eyes. How it felt the past few weeks to just be in her presence. How smart she was, as he soon found out when they played a game of shoji. He knew she had been top of her class, but there’s a difference in memorizing information, and being able to think out the moves to make in any situation.  They had fallen into a routine of playing a game or two weekly, and it seemed he only fell even further for her as he spent more time with her.
Memories of her flitted through his mind, like the way she chewed her bottom lip when she thought about her next move. Or how she felt in his arms when she would tackle him after he let her win, complaining that it wasn’t a real win if he allowed it. How the smell of her jasmine perfume invaded his senses when she had been so close to him. The musical sound of her laughter. The small smiles that had formed on her face, genuine even if they didn’t reach her eyes.
He sighed and shook his head once again. What a drag, he was supposed to be relaxing and yet he couldn’t relax when he thought about her.
Of course, leave it to him to end up in the troublesome situation of falling for the girl who already had her sights set on someone else. He wouldn’t be so arrogant to think he could sway her feelings, it seemed childish almost to try and change it. No matter how much he knew Sasuke didn’t deserve even an ounce of the friendship or love that Naruto and Sakura held for him so strongly.
He stood up from his spot and sighed before he heard shuffling. He turned his head towards the noise before finding the very being of his thoughts, standing there with her leather gloves on, clearly coming to train. She had this look of determination on her face, but there was a twinge of disappointment in her eyes.
“Oh, hey Shikamaru!” She smiled softly. “It’s okay, I’ll find another training ground! I wouldn’t want to intrude on your cloud watching.” She turned to leave.
She had only just got here, he didn’t want her to leave yet.
He inwardly scrambled for something to say to stop her too-soon departure.“Sakura, do you have a training partner?” He jogged towards her. “You usually have Tsunade with you don’t you?” He inquired.
He realized how lame that might have sounded, or maybe even rubbing salt into the wound of her disappointment since Tsunade was clearly absent today.
Was there even a way to have a strategy for love, and trying to gain it?
Sakura laughed nervously. “She’s got a lot of hokage business today. And, you know Naruto is gone and Kakashi-sensei is on yet another mission…” There was a tinge of sadness in her voice as she explained herself even further.
He knew no ninja cared for pity, and he didn’t want to come off that way. But he also knows training by yourself only gets you so far. And that she hated to be alone. He tried for a casual smile towards her before shrugging his shoulders. He really did try to be there for his friends, and the sadness in her voice made it clear she wasn’t thrilled about the situation. “Well, I’ll train with you today. I’m not busy or anything.”
Sakura's eyes widened. “Oh, no you don’t have to, Shikamaru!” She looked off to the side a bit. “I know you were cloud watching, really, I don’t want to interrupt.”
“Nah, I was just finished. Come on, you only gain so much from training alone. What were you going to work on today?”
Sakura couldn’t help the shy smile that graced her lips then. She looked up at Shikamaru, meeting his chocolate eyes this time. “I was going to work on taijutsu. Tsunade is teaching me how to channel chakra into my attacks to make them stronger. I also need to learn to dodge better…”
Ino had gone to Sakura’s after training to find she was gone. She imagined she may have been training with Tsunade, so she picked up some food and headed back to the training grounds. She was surprised to find Sakura alone, without Tsunade approaching the training ground she had left only 20 minutes ago. And then she smiled as she realized Shikamaru was still there, and was probably cloud watching.
Shika hadn’t said anything but she had noticed how he seemed to glance at Sakura just a little longer these days whenever they ran into her friend as a team. Or how sometimes he seemed concerned about her being left behind by her team, asking why nothing was done about it. Asuma gave a knowing smile when he mentioned it, and told him that he could do something about it if he felt so concerned about it.
This really turned into Ino doing something about it because Shikamaru just huffed at his response, and only Ino noticed the slightest tinge of pink in his face he had that day. Ino started inviting Sakura to train with them occasionally then, before one day insisting they start to hang out. Really, she just wanted to see both of them happy.
She got a little closer so she could hear when they spoke. When Shikamaru suggested he train with her, Ino beamed. There’s no one else she would ever trust to be so kind to Sakura, it was why she had set them up a few weeks back. She was surprised he went out of his way to do it, considering he wasn’t usually one to volunteer himself. All the more proof showing he had some sort of affection for her. She ran off to tell Choji, giggling with delight all the while to find him.
Sakura and Shikamaru had been sparring for about half an hour at this point, just exchanging blows. It wasn’t without the occasional snide comments to each other, as Sakura loved to chat.
Sakura smirked softly before landing a kick to his side. “You know, it’s not really training when you go easy on me, Shikamaru.”
He raised an eyebrow at her before shaking his head. “You’re just as troublesome as Ino. Why do you think I’m going easy on you?” But he smiled even just slightly as he said it. “I’m not, but I’m not trying to actually hurt you either, woman.”
He grabbed hold of her leg when she went to kick him again and pushed it to the side in an attempt to make her lose balance.
“I’m not fragile. Tsunade hits me with chakra punches, I think I can handle your normal ones.” She chided as she caught herself from falling. She lunged at him, going for his side when he grabbed her wrist and twisted, bringing her arm behind her.
She felt how firm his chest was against her arm and back but tried to shake away those invasive little thoughts that crossed her mind.
“Taijutsu isn’t my strong suit, I’m more of a ranged shinobi, as I’m sure you should know already.”
She tensed slightly as she felt his breath brush across her neck as he spoke. She nodded. “Ah, yes that’s right.” She smirked and hooked her foot behind his ankle and pulled, sending him to the ground as she turned and crossed her arms. “Perhaps this is good training for both of us then.”
He landed flat on his back, surprised by her move. He looked up at her and was caught for a moment at the sight of her. She stood, staring down at him with a happy glint in her turquoise eyes he hadn’t seen for at least two years. Her hair reached a little past her shoulders now as it blew around in the slight breeze. Her hips were cocked to one side as she gazed at him with amusement even though her arms were crossed. She had a thin sheen of sweat that glistened across her skin, and it did nothing but add to his attraction. It had caught him off guard, but she looked beautiful in that moment, especially with the clouds behind her as a backdrop.
She watched as Shikamaru seemed to gaze at her for a little bit longer before she felt heat rushing to her face. “H-Hey, what are you looking at?” She snapped.
“You have a pretty smile…” He said without really thinking.
Oh man, this is about to be a drag.
He quickly stood up as his own face became dusted with a light shade of pink. He rubbed the back of his head. “I mean…” He trailed off, not quite sure how to dig himself out of this one.
Sakura only became more flustered. “I...oh?” She bit the inside of her cheek nervously, not sure what to say. “Thank you…” She gave a shy smile.
He returned with his own sheepish smile. “I… uh. I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable. I know that you…” He didn’t know if bringing up Sasuke was a good idea he realized as he trailed off.
Sakura took a step closer and set a reassuring hand on his chest. “You didn’t make me uncomfortable at all, Shika. Thank you…” She looked up at him and she was smiling so brightly, it reached her eyes which were so warm now. “It means a lot to me, actually.”
He watched her for a moment, before wishing he knew how to handle this situation a little better. Really, everyone knew her heart was out to Sasuke, so was there really a point in trying? But her hand was on his chest and she was smiling at him so tenderly, so what did that mean for him?
Since when did he feel strongly enough to want to try?
It had to be her smile, and how he had been the one to make her that happy. He brought a hand up to cup one side of her face as he made eye contact with her. “Sakura, you do know you look beautiful, right?” He said softly.
Her lack of confidence in herself made no sense to him, but he had to try. She was a stunning kunoichi all around in his eyes.
She blushed even deeper now before staring into his dark brown eyes. She wasn’t used to someone being so close. And it was a bit of a shock coming from Shikamaru.
But now some of Ino’s odd behaviour started making sense, like how every time she went out with Team 10, she somehow ended up sitting next to Shikamaru instead of Ino, and the couple times she trained with them, she ended up paired with him. Or when she tried to ask her about dating that one time.
She gazed into his eyes, seeing how warm and inviting they were as he looked at her so tenderly. Somewhere in the back of her mind, she compared it to the coldness that she always found in Sasuke’s gaze, but it seemed so distant now. It made her nervous all the same.
“I...uh.” she stuttered nervously.
She would have been lying if she tried to act like Shikamaru wasn’t attractive. She was flustered at the sudden attention he seemed to be paying attention to her, or was it so sudden? Had he looked at her like that before and she just didn’t notice? It made her feel giddy and nervous to be the object of his piercing gaze. It felt like he could see right through her. She could never tell what he was thinking, but he was clear enough in voicing he liked what he saw. She chewed on the inside of her cheek, not sure what to say, thinking his hands felt nice even if they were a little calloused.
She began thinking of how he has always made her feel like she mattered the last few weeks, how this lazy genius she calls her friend always made time for her. How gentle he seemed to be holding her at this exact moment, and the awe in his gaze when he was on the ground moments ago when he looked up at her.
She gently gripped his shirt with the hand that still rested on his chest as she felt him lean closer, anticipating what she thought, and ever dared hope what was coming next.
He took a step closer and leaned in towards her slightly. “Can I kiss you?” He spoke the question so softly as he slowly moved his hand to thread into her hair.  He didn’t want to make her feel pressured. “You don’t have to say ye-”
And he felt soft lips just barely brush his own. His eyes slid closed as he brought his other hand to her hip, and deepened the kiss just a bit. Her hands moved to wrap around his neck. It was timid and shy, clearly the first for her(not to his surprise), but it was so sweet and gentle.
His face felt like it was on fire as he pulled back a bit. He gazed at her, surprise clear in his chocolate shaded eyes, but also something akin to delight.
She stared back up at Shikamaru, her lips still just barely parted. She could feel his chest against her own, how surprisingly toned he was compared to how lithe he looked. She could smell the layer of sweat that shined off his skin in the sun from their sparring moments ago. She took comfort in how firm yet gentle his grip on her was. It felt nice to be close to someone, she thought to herself, as she smiled up at him.
“Sakura… ” He pulled his hand back from her pink tresses to rest on her cheek. “I don’t mean to be a drag, but I… ” He stumbled for words, how do you even begin this conversation? Is the kiss enough, does he have to voice it?
“I liked it…” She spoke softly, before looking over him once more. “How...long?” Her eyes were full of curiosity, and happiness.
“Awhile…” He sighed. “I’ve always been concerned about you since everything happened, and especially since Naruto left. You were always…” He didn’t know what to say. He didn’t want to insult her, especially because he was well aware she had a killer punch once she was angry. “Alone.”
“I always found myself wanting to comfort you, to be there for you.” He laughed nervously. “Emotions are such a drag, you know? I don’t know how to explain them very well…”
She bit her lip softly. “Shika…” She placed both her hands against the sides of his face.
“And I mean, who am I compared to Sasuke?” He gave a half smile as he stroked her cheekbone with his thumb. “Competitions are immature, especially ones you know you can’t win…”
A flash of guilt went through her aquamarine hues and she looked away.
She knew not everyone cared as deeply for Sasuke as her and Naruto, that most people saw him as a traitor now. Most people didn’t understand. But Shikamaru always understood, even if he didn’t agree with it.
It wasn’t a secret to her and Naruto. She knew that even though the rest of the Rookie 9 respected them enough to keep their opinions to themselves, and even help try to bring him back, that most of them were bitter towards the Uchiha. Who could blame them, when they were the ones that had to witness the pain her and Naruto felt all the time. No one could like someone who hurt people they cared about.
Shikamaru frowned, instantly regretting his words. He gently turned her face back towards him. “Sakura, that’s not how I meant that…” He sighed even deeper. “I just… I know you love him, so why would I tell you how I feel, it wouldn’t change that, and it wouldn’t change us, now would it?”
She stared at Shikamaru in wonder. He was so full understanding, not a hint of the judgement she was used to when in regards to Sasuke. He always was, but at this moment, she had begun fearing he would get angry and turn away. He hadn’t, he had only held on more, giving her more honesty and it made her heart swell more with the little bit of feelings she had started developing for him recently.
Shikamaru was here, and Sasuke wasn’t. He made her feel wanted, and the time she had spent with him lately were becoming some of the happier moments she had now. She wondered that as time went, if she would ever even pine for the vengeful raven anymore, as she slowly fell for the genius.
Shikamaru was looking at her so tenderly, but there was a hint of sadness in those eyes that suddenly reminded her of coffee in the late mornings they shared a couple of times over games of shoji.
“What if I said it could…?” She whispered to more herself than him. But he was a shinobi just like she was, and he had definitely heard it.
“Sakura..?”
“You…” She struggled to find words that didn’t sound awkward or cheesy. “I… don’t feel so alone when I’m with you. I feel happy.”
Shikamaru stared at her for another moment before kissing her again.
Sakura gasped softly into the kiss before returning it eagerly. She rested her hands on the sides of his neck as various things fled through her little pink head. They were fast and fleeting but somehow still focused as she moved her mouth against his, not exactly smoothly as it was now her only second kiss.
Shikamaru, the one who said women are such a drag, was kissing her. He had done everything but outright confess to her.
She felt her heart beating out of her chest as butterflies seemed to fill her stomach.
His body felt hard against hers, or maybe he was just tense.
She wanted this, wanted him.
She liked the way he embraced her, tight enough to express he didn’t want her to go, but gentle enough that she could have pulled away if she had wanted to.
Shikamaru was here and cared about her and her day and her feelings and even her damn training.
Her face burned with a hot blush.
And the most apparent thought, she liked every bit of it.
She hummed as Shikamaru seemed to grow a little more confident as he swiped his tongue along her bottom lip. She timidly parted her lips for him, moving one of her hands to his hair, almost daring to tug the strands out of its hold, curious about what it looked like when it was down. He pulled her closer, her body pressed right up against his, as he swirled his tongue around her own. His grip on her hips tightened before he raised one hand to gently tilt her head and thread his fingers into her hair, giving him better access.
She pulled away with a soft gasp, needing air to breathe from. “Shika…” She panted softly before looking up at him. She caught his eyes and was surprised by the intensity that she found in them. She bit her lip nervously as she tried to maintain his gaze.
She wondered what was going through his head that moment. He was never one she could read well. She was pretty sure that was why he always beat her in shoji, when he wasn’t letting her win. Or maybe it was because she would be trying to focus on not watching the way his eyes scanned the board. Sometimes her mind wandered even further, wondering what his hands felt like when she watched him move pieces.
She could confirm now that they had a firm grip, and were a little calloused and felt rough against the smooth skin of her neck or her cheek. It was a near perfect contrast, even though she knew her hands were just as callous as his from leading the life of a ninja.
“Do...you want to come to my place?” She asked him softly.
His eyes widened a bit at the request.
He wanted to, but he was feeling a need he couldn’t dare expect her to satiate. He didn’t think that a kiss would draw him so far into his own desires. He just wanted to show her he cared, to express something he couldn’t quite get out in words. Just one kiss sparked his need within to be with her that went farther than just her company or his want to comfort her.
“Sakura, I…” He felt his face flush again. “I don’t know if that's the best idea…” He disentangled himself from her slowly and took a step back. “I think I need to go uhm… Cool off.” He rubbed the back of his back, feeling rather embarrassed.
“Oh, uh…” She wasn’t stupid, she was more than well aware what he meant. She felt hot all over from that second kiss even as tender as it still was. She nodded slightly in understanding. “If you change your mind…” She couldn’t help the tinge of hope that laced her voice.
He looked at her a moment before leaning back down and placing a kiss over her forehead. “I’ll see you, Sakura…” He really wasn’t sure what else he could possibly say to her that wasn’t awkward or weird.
He backed off almost reluctantly, wishing he could accept her offer to come to her home. He turned and walked away, but not before giving her a sheepish grin. He started walking towards home, even though he really wanted to turn around and go home with her.
But he feared she was just caught in the moment, and he didn’t want her to regret something, or for it to ruin their friendship. All these contradicting thoughts he had were troublesome and he was beginning to wonder how he let himself fall for her in the first place.
Then he remembered all the things she said, and how happy she had looked as she gazed up at him. That she had liked when he kissed her. Or how she didn’t feel so alone when she was with him.
He took a deep breath as he turned to look behind him even as he swore at himself that it was going to be the mistake that did him in. As his gaze fell back on her form, she had walked the opposite direction towards her apartment. He could see the slight slump in her shoulders, the disappointment in being turned down, even after he made the first move. Her head hung low and it caused a stabbing pain to throb in his chest.
He stopped as the realization dawned on him that he had just hurt her. He had hurt her, right after she had just told him that he made her feel happy. He didn’t want to be the reason she was hurting, he wanted to be the person that made her smile, just as brightly as she was just moments before he stepped away from her.
It couldn’t be the right thing to do if it made her look so upset. He couldn’t bear to be the one causing her to doubt herself, to feel like she did something wrong, or like she wasn’t enough. He couldn’t let her believe she was anything less than wonderful. The ink-haired man sighed as he took the next turn swiftly, heading towards her place. He picked up his pace, easily maneuvering around anyone else on the same path.
He got there first. It didn’t surprise him considering the brisk pace he had developed and the slow one she had had. He waited silently on her porch, leaning against the door frame, watching in the direction he knew she would come from.
He had been so focused on watching for Sakura that he was startled at the sound of Ino's higher pitched tone.
“So just what exactly are you doing here, hm?” She teased.
He huffed at her. “I… kissed Sakura.”
Ino blue orbs widened in surprise before she started fretting over him. “Shika, you did what!” She exclaimed excitedly.
“Don’t get so loud!” He hissed before his shoulders slumped. “Besides, I already fucked it up…” He sighed.
“Clearly you didn’t do something too terrible if you’re sitting on her doorstep.” She raised an eyebrow and clicked her tongue.
“I kissed her, and then she asked me to come over, and I just…” His cheeks tinted red again, before he glanced to see if he could see her down the road yet. “I didn’t want her to regret it…”
Ino’s gaze softened towards. “You mean, you didn’t want her to regret you.” She stepped right in front of Shikamaru, demanding his eye contact. “Look at me, she wouldn’t invite you over unless she had already decided it was what she wanted.” She set her hands on her hips. “And now you’ve probably gone and made her think she missed something or misread the situation.”
“But she didn’t! I just…” He sighed, frustrated with how he didn’t know how to say what he felt. “I didn’t want to hurt her, or hell I didn’t want to be hurt either.”
Ino rolled her eyes but kept her tone light. “So, then why are you here?”
Why did this friend of his always have to have her nose in other people’s business? He huffed, before reminding himself that if she hadn’t been in Sakura’s business he might have never got to spend so much time with her in the first place.
“I looked back after walking away and she just looked…” He felt so ashamed to have hurt her, even when his intentions had been the opposite. “She looked so hurt, and she had been smiling moments before I ruined it. And I can’t bear to be the reason she feels so sad, and I’d be lying if I sat here and tried to act like I didn’t want to come, I just tried to do the right thing…”
Ino caught sight of pink down the road out of the corner of her eye. She smiled. “As long as you’re doing what makes her happy, you’re doing the right thing, Shikamaru…” She gave him a pat on the shoulder before making the hand signs to a transportation jutsu and disappearing.
Ino words lingered in the air for a moment as he thought about them, about how he had just had a similar thought.
He glanced back towards the street and saw her coming. He stood back away from the door frame and watched as she seemed to dread coming home, coming back to being alone. Another pain stabbed in his chest as he saw the actual expression on her face. He had started to come down the steps right as she looked up and saw him on her doorstep. He shot a smile in her direction as she picked up the pace, her own face lighting back up.
She had run straight into his arms, right into his embrace on her steps.
“Shika-” She was cut off as he melded his lips to hers again and she closed her eyes, melting into the kiss just before he pulled away too soon.
“I’m sorry…” He said softly. “I didn’t mean to hurt your feelings…” He cups her face in his hands. “I only said no because I don’t want you to make a mistake and regret… This.”
She stared at him before turning to unlock her door and step inside, and jerked him into her house with one arm. She slammed the door before shoving him against it. “You let me decide whether or not I want something…” She huffed out in slight annoyance. “And damnit, I’ve been wanting you…”
He gasped at her sudden ambition but smirked a bit before hooking his palms on the back of her thighs and hoisting her effortlessly from the ground and holding her against him. He hummed appreciatively as she instantly wrapped her legs around his waist. “Then you have me.”
One of her hands went for the band that held his hair up and slowly pulled it from his locks, tossing it aside. It fell just barely to his shoulders in layers, framing his face. It had only made him look even more handsome, and sexy as that smirk still played across his lips.
She ran her fingers through his hair, loving how thick and soft it felt as the strands slid through her fingers. She looked into his eyes, which always reminded her of something deep and dark, whether it was chocolate or coffee, or at the moment it was the tall woods of their home, safe and secure. There was emotion there that she couldn’t place there. She bit her lip in anticipation. There was some warmth developing in her chest as she looked at him and it only encouraged the nerves firing all over her skin.
He tilted his back into her touch, his breath hitching as her fingers threaded through his hair. He’d never let a girl take his hair down, not even when he was heavily drunk. It felt soothing to feel her fingers against his scalp as she incessantly stroked his hair.
“You have no idea how badly I’ve wanted to do that…” She breathed out as she finally stopped and let her arms rest and loosely wrap around his shoulders.
He licked his lips before moving to kiss her neck softly. “I think your eagerness gave that part away, Sakura…” He mumbled against her neck as he lavished her soft skin with kisses. He heard her breath catch in her throat.
“Shika…” Her legs tightened around his hips as she breathed out another sigh. “You’re going to be…”
“I know…” He whispered before moving back up her neck to peck at her jawline and catch her lips with his once more. He tried to pour every bit of affection he had for her into that kiss as he started walking towards where he knew her bedroom was.
She let out a needy whimper as his lips met hers again and she slanted hers against them. She needed something more, she wanted to feel his hands on her. She wanted to feel needed by him, like she felt the need for him. It almost felt wrong, feeling this lust for the first time.
She gasped when she felt her back fall onto the bed, with him hovering over her from the edge of the mattress, easily settling between her thighs. He looked down at her before he placed a hand over her the side of her face, his thumb stroking her cheekbone. He stared at her lovingly and it was then she suddenly felt the guilt build up in her chest.
She knew she felt something for him, and that it was more than this lust, but she couldn’t call it love. As he stared at her with such a heartfelt expression her heart squeezed and it all felt wrong now. She couldn’t bear the thought of hurting him.
“W-Wait..” She stammered, her words catching in her throat.
He hummed in response before leaning down and placing a kiss on her cheek, trailing down her jawline and nipping lightly at her smooth skin. “You can talk while I kiss you…” He mumbled between kisses, his breath flowing over her skin and making her shiver.
Her back arched and she shut her eyes tight. “I-I can’t do this, not…” She moaned out softly as he bit down on the junction of her neck and shoulder and began to suck softly on her skin there.
“N-Not after you looked at me like that.” She breathed.
“I-It’s wrong…” She whimpered as he pressed her more firmly onto her bed.
“I-I don’t feel the same… Not as…” She gasped as she slowly pulled away from her neck and licked the slight red mark he left. “Not as intensely…”
Shikamaru sat back up, resting his weight on his forearms on either side of her head. He knew that already. But he could see in her eyes as she looked at him, past the guilt, that she did care about him. And if there were any feelings in her heart for him, he wasn’t letting her go now. He never intended to let her go ever, just loving her silently for his life.
“Sakura, I never expected you to feel as strongly as I do now.” He smiled down at her. “Not yet…” He caressed her cheek.
Her heart squeezed once again at his compassion towards. “But this isn’t fair to you…” She started to drag herself away from his body, trying to slip through the gap left by his arms. “I don’t want to hurt you…”
He caught on and quickly pinned his hips against hers before entangling his hand in her hair and kissing her with everything he had. He knew she didn’t want to pull away, that she was just trying to spare his heart, but he needed her to see that he understood, that he accepted it. He was patient, and he would take whatever she would give him. He brought his other hand to grip her hip gently.
She gasped into the kiss before kissing him back, struggling to fight her desire as her morals battled it in her head. She wanted nothing but to be enveloped in his warmth and his touch and his mouth, wherever he decided to wonder with it.
He pulled back and locked his coffee coloured eyes with her aqua ones. “Sakura, please, just let me love you.” He pleaded. “I know you want this too, even if you don’t feel it as deep as I do…”
She swallowed before cupping his face in her hands, tears pricking the corners of her eyes. “You don’t deserve this, Shika…” She stared into his eyes, enthralled by all the love and affection and care and compassion found in them as his eyes pierced through her again. “You deserve someone that would be devoted to you…entirely.” She smiled softly as the tears slipped down her cheeks.
He quickly wiped her eyes before kissing both her cheeks. “Sakura, if Sasuke walked back through the village gates, right now, where would you be after you found out?”
Her eyes widened at his question. He always caught her off guard with his bluntness he had for most topics. She looked at him, asking herself that question over and over again.
All she could think about was how she was right where she wanted to be. She was in the arms of someone who made her feel important, like she mattered. She stared at Shikamaru, his hair flowing down to his shoulders, slightly wavy from being held up all the time. She bit her lip, as she thought about the way his kiss made her heart leap in her chest, how the way he held her made her feel so safe.
She thought about how everything about Sasuke was apathetic and uninviting. How he thought she was annoying, treated her like she was less than him. She thought about how distant he always was, and how he put power and revenge over everything else, even when their team had started to become like family.
She thought about how warm Shikamaru was, and how he always welcomed her in his presence, how right now he was pleading to be at her side, in her bed. How he trained with her as an equal, even when he pulled his punches in fear of hurting her. How he had always been there, and how he accepted her as she was.
She stroked her thumbs across his cheeks as she beamed a smile before leaning up and kissing him, and slowly winding her fingers into his hair again, and blushed as he groaned at her touch. She pulled away before looking into eyes, warm and inviting as always, but nervous too.
“I’d be right here. I’d be with you. Naruto could come bursting through that door right now telling me Sasuke was back, and it would still hurt, but I would stay right here, in your arms.”
His eyes widened, not expecting her to say she would choose him, knowing he had risked his heart being broken, thinking he had been stupid to ask such a question when he was trying to convince her to not push him away.
He couldn’t take it anymore as his smile stretched across his face. “Then that’s more than enough for me.” His voice was heavy with the emotions he felt constricting his heart.
She would choose him.
He crashed his lips down on hers, passion flaming fiercely as he slid his hand back into her hair, and the one gripping her hip slid under her to press their bodies close together. He felt her hands slip under his shoulders and press into his back. He nipped her bottom lip and when she gasped with a moan, he slid his tongue into her mouth and tangled it with hers. She whined with need into his demanding kiss, and he felt the surge of pleasure go straight to his center as he felt his groin tighten.
“Shikamaru, please…” She moaned into the kiss.
She shook his head as he dragged his mouth away from the kiss just to pepper more along her jawline and down her neck. “I will not rush this for you, I’m going to do this right.”
Her eyes gleamed with curiosity and she arched her back into his touch. “Right…?”
The genius hummed against her skin softly before chuckling. “You are not, nor will you ever be just a quick fuck, Sakura.” His voice sounded deep and husky now, filled with need and it ignited her arousal as a deep blush flushed her skin and down her neck.
He inched his fingertips under the red fabric of her shirt, silently making the request to run his hands across her body. She nodded and pushed herself into his touch. He bit his lip and gripped the fabric and pulled it gently over her body, leaning down to kiss the skin of her abdomen as more and more was exposed.. Her breath hitched once more and she instinctively rolled her hips against his, grinding against his own arousal. She let out a loud moan and bit her lip.
“S-Shit, I’m so-”
As soon as her shirt was on the floor his hands landed on her hips and pinned them in place to the bed. His eyes were glazed over and dark as he bit his lip before he moved his hips against hers, rubbing their clothes sexes against each other deliberately. He groaned as her back arched and she moaned his name softly.
He slid his hands up her sides, hooking his fingers on her chest binds, looking for the piece that was tucked. Finding it quickly, he unwrapped them, still grinding his hips into hers as he unravelled the binds until she was exposed, her full breasts heaving with her heavy breathing. He cupped each mound in his hands and squeezed them softly, hardening even more at the moans that fell from her lips as she arched into his touch.
“Sh-Shika… Oh god.” She moaned out needily as her nipples quickly hardened at the attention she received.
“Sakura…” He breathed before leaning down and expertly circling the tip of his tongue around a hardened nipple while he still continued his touches on her other breast.
Her moans were like music to his ears. He knew she was a virgin but he didn’t expect his touch to have this much of an effect on her. He didn’t expect her to be so open to him. She blushed and whimpered and moaned but not once did she try to hide herself from him. The amount of trust she had in him made his heart swell. She looked so beautiful as she panted from his touches.
“You’re beautiful…” He whispered against her skin.
She looked up at him before she slid her hands under his flak jacket, her fingertips gliding across his mesh top, reveling in how toned his body felt, but wanting to feel his bare skin against her own.
She huffed. “This needs to come off…” She sat up quickly, did away with the green vest they all owned, and pulled at the fabric, dragging it up his torso until it went over his head.
He gazed at her as she eased the mesh material off his body. He loved the way she seemed captivated in this moment, so focused on him. Her hands pressed firm across his skin and she slid them down to his hips before she hooked her fingers on the waistband there.
He brought a hand up to her cheek once again, kissing her soft and slow, pushing her more fully onto the bed when she had finished unbuttoning his pants, he kicked them. She shed her skirt and her shorts. She could feel how wet she was everytime she moved her legs and she whined with need.
As he climbed onto the bed, still keeping settled between her legs, his knees sunk into the mattress. He sat up and just roved over her curves, her body nearly fully exposed besides the simple but sexy red panties she wore. He noticed the wet spot near her core and he smirked, stroking his hand up and down her thigh teasingly. He placed his thumb directly over her clothed clit and began rubbing slow and deliberate circles. He used his free hand to pin her hips to the bed, putting some of his weight onto her as she writhed beneath his touch.
“Shikamaru…” She drawled out in a low, heated voice. Her back arched up off the bed once more as her mouth hung open, breathy moans falling from her soft lips every time he rolled his thumb over her clit.
He licked his lips at the sight of seeing her so aroused. “You’re so wet and worked up and I’ve barely touched you…” He mumbled, his voice still deep and husky.
He began rubbing her faster, adding a little more pressure. He watched as her body began growing tense and smirked as her legs trembled around his hips. “Sakura, you look so sexy right now, baby…”
She bit her lip and a blush stained her cheeks once more as she couldn’t help but to buck her hips against his hand. She never even thought something could feel so pleasurable. She couldn’t imagine doing this with anyone else. She could feel that her panties were thoroughly soaked with her own juices and it was slightly embarrassing. Did he think she was easy, or was he just that good with his mouth and his hands? She whimpered when she felt his hand stop completely and just press firmly against her sensitive areas, and she couldn’t help but to grind herself into the palm of his hand, looking for any sort of friction.
He hooked the waistband of those pecky little panties before twirling them around his finger. He’d decided he could buy her new ones if him ripping them off pissed her off enough. With one swift pull, the fabric easily ripped. He tossed the scraps of her last bit of clothing off to the side as she gasped, but her eyes watched him intently, scaling down his body. They left a blazing heat building behind her touch. He watched her, as she hooked her slender fingers around his boxers and tugged them down his thighs to fall to his knees. He quickly kicked them off.
And then he sunk down onto the mattress, into her embrace and warmth. Her whole body was hot to the touch, feeling their bare skin against each other. He breathed a long sigh before catching her lips in another heated kiss, pouring his love into her. Her hands went into his hair and she tugged at the long strands, keeping them out of his face.
He slowly slid his length along her entrance and against her clit, and she shook with the pleasure as she rocked her hips into his.
“Oh, Shika…” She called out between kisses. “That’s so…” He nipped her bottom lip before sucking on it and slowly grinding his hips against hers, slicking himself with her arousal.
“Fuck, you’re dripping…” He groaned before he trailed wet kisses down her neck.
“Shikamaru, please. This teasing is too much…” She whined.
He hummed in agreement before sliding his hands up her arms, pinning them to the bed, intertwining their fingers together. “If you need me to stop at any time…”
She nodded, squeezing his hands. “I know…”
He aligned himself with her entrance, pressing the tip of his length into her slightly before kissing her again, delving his tongue between her lips and swirling around her own. He loved how she moaned at everything he did, how her body pressed up into his, no matter what he did. He began sucking on her tongue and she writhed between him and her sheets, messing them up even worse. Just as her moans began to become high pitched, knowing she’d want the worse done and over with, he pushed into her in one long and quick thrust, sheathing himself to the hilt.
He let out a strangled groan at how tight she was, how much she gripped him as he sank into her heat. “Sakura, fucking hell…” He growled against her lips as his body went taut with tension. He kept still, feeling her pussy pulsating around his length. She had whimpered at first and cried out in surprise but he didn’t see any signs of pain, which was a good sign but left him confused.
She moved her hips up into his and let out a broken moan, which he thought sounded a lot like ‘Shika’. “Hymens break often when you’re physically active,” She said, an annoyed and impatient tone falling from her lips. “Nothing hurts, so don’t you dare hold back.” She snapped as she writhed once more and cried out in pleasure, dissolving whatever demanding aura she tried to have.
He smirked. “My apologies.” And then he rolled over onto his back, pulling her on top of him. He held her hips tight, and lifted her up as he pulled out until just the very tip of his erection was left inside her, before thrusting upwards as he pulled her back down on him.
He threw his head back against her pillows, his raven layers sprawling across the cushions, the smells of her arousal and just her surrounding him as he pressed into her heat, overwhelmed in the sensations. He felt her hands settle firmly on his chest as she moaned out his name.
He gazed up at her, finding the way her hair hung around her face, and stuck to her neck with sweat, absolutely stunning. He watched as her breasts bounced with every movement, licking his lips as he watched them, watched her as she didn’t hold back any of the passion he gave her. He slid his hands up her sides before cupping the mounds once again, tweaking her nipples in sync with each undulation of their hips.
“Ride me, Sakura…” He growled out.
She panted as he felt her distribute more of her weight into her arms, using his chest to support herself before she experimentally rocked her hips back and forth. The friction made him sigh, the pleasure of her taking control running through his body like an electric current. He jerked his hips up into her, moaning out her name low and heated.
She felt herself slicken even more against his member as her name slipped so freely from his lips, sounding so pleasured. She bit her lip before raising her hips and then pressing back down. She gasped as searing hot pleasure raced through her veins, and repeated the motion. She did it again and again, the urgency in her movements building as she started to get closer to the sweet bliss she knew was her first orgasm given to her by someone else. She chased it, bouncing in his lap desperately.
“Fuck, Sakura. You’re going to be the death of me…” He groaned and gripped her hips hard and guided her down onto him roughly. He felt her nails digging into his skin, her death gripping his shoulders. Moan after moan fell from her mouth, whimpers of his name filling the air, urging him on.
He rolled her over onto her back, kissing her hard and needy. Her hands pressed flat against his back, before her fingers curled and he felt her fingers digging into the skin of his shoulder blades. She pressed her body into him, her back arching as she cried out into his mouth, her legs shaking around his hips and her body shuddering. He felt her tighten around his throbbing cock as she lost herself in bliss. He kissed her neck and whispered against her skin.
“You’re so gorgeous, Sakura…” He breathed against her ear as he kept pounding into her through her first orgasm he’d given her.
He felt his back muscles tighten and he sunk deep into her warmth, nearing his own bliss. He peppered kisses across whatever skin he could reach, hugging her close and tight to his chest. He grabbed the back of her knee and raised her leg, finding a better angle.
“Sakura, I love you so much, fuck…” He moaned as he finally found his own release. He pumped into her slow and hard as he came, his seed coming out in multiple spurts as he shuddered.
He collapsed on top of her body, both of them gasping for breath. He felt her gaze on him, but he couldn’t find the energy to turn his head. He gripped her hands tighter as he buried his face into her neck, breathing in her jasmine perfume.
“That was…” She panted as a smile spread across her lips. “Incredible…”
He beamed before rolling himself off of her with effort. “You were amazing…” He sighed contentedly before pulling her into his arms. His eyes felt heavy as she cuddled up to his side, pulling up the blankets to cover them. She kissed his shoulder before sighing blissfully.
He looked down at her before kissing her forehead and gently sitting up. “I should probably go…” He didn’t expect to start instantly acting like a couple, staying in her bed. “I don’t want to-”
She shoved him back down on the bed, restoring his shoulder as her pillow. “I want you to stay…” She snipped at him.
He stared down at her, before a small smile graced his lips. “Okay, Sakura…” He wrapped an arm around her shoulders and held her tight to him.
She looked up at him and pecked his lips. “Thank you, Shikamaru…”
He nodded, kissing her forehead. “I’ll always be here for you, however you need me, Sakura…”
They fell asleep, tangled in each other’s arms.
A couple hours later, Ino came to check on Sakura. She knew her teammate struggled with his emotions, and that Sakura’s temper was hardly patient. She invited herself in, not noticing anything out of the ordinary.
“It’s awful quiet…” She narrowed her eyes, knowing the last time she came here, knowing she was home and it was this quiet, she had been in her room, asleep with her eyes tear-stained.
She sauntered up to her room, worry filling her mind. She pushed the door open, expecting to forcefully drag her friend out of bed. Ready to take her straight to Shikamaru and fix her friends up herself if she had to.
But what she found made her heart swell with love and joy for a couple of the most important people in her life. Shikamaru was lying on his back with his hair down, framing his face, and thoroughly tangled. Sakura was nestled against his side using his chest as her pillow, her pink tresses splayed across his shoulder behind her, his arm wrapped tightly around her. Their clothes were scattered about the floor around the bed. The nosy blonde smirked, as she noted scratch marks on his chest, and lovebites along her neck and shoulders, and how Sakura lips swollen with kisses. They looked so happy and she couldn’t help but smile at the sight of them. She knew they would kill her for it later, but she took a quick picture on her phone, and sent it to Sakura.
It’s about damn time Shikamaru fessed up. Happy for you, Forehead.

We All Wear Masks Sometimes
Author: Lopithecus Pairing: Hatake Kakashi/Maito Gai | Might Guy Rating: General Audiences Word Count: 1674 Alternate: AO3 Summary: Kakashi comforts Gai after Lee gets injured during the Chunin exams Warnings: N/A Author's Note: This is for day 6 of KakaGai Week 2020 ( @kkgweek ).  I have a feeling a lot of the fics/art that are going to use this prompt are going to be Kakashi focused. So, I decided to do the opposite. This is set just after the preliminary round during the Chunin Exams. Also, it’s not made explicitly clear that Kakashi and Gai are together, but it is implied that they are. Please enjoy! Prompt: Day 6 - Mask
Gai has a habit of pretending to be okay for everyone else's sake even if he's not. He'll smile and laugh, say something with poetic prose, and then throw out a thumbs-up with a hand on his hip. Sure, on good days he actually is like that, Gai's personality having been molded very carefully and lovingly by his father, but Gai's father could only do so much. Kakashi knows this.
Sometimes Kakashi thinks he's the only one to know this about Gai.
On days that are hard, the really bad days that all shinobi get no matter how cheerful and optimistic one can be, Gai amplifies the theatrics to one hundred. No one really notices, no one besides Kakashi, because Gai never lets anyone get close enough to him to show his real personality. Sure, the man is close to his friends, closer still to his students, but he can't act weak around them. He can't let his friends' teasing bother him and he has to be the perfect role model for his students.
With Kakashi, it's different.
Maybe that is what happens when you grow up fighting a war together and lose everyone you love? You tend to latch onto the one that never left. You hold onto them like they are your lifeline and if that line were to ever get cut then you would drown.
Or maybe Kakashi is just being overly dramatic and it has nothing to do with that. Maybe it's just a testament of how long they have been friends that allows the two to be open with each other and no one else. Kakashi has never been great at interpreting attachments and he's the last person to try to make it into a healthy conclusion in his mind.
He's always been a little bit codependent on the people he's cared about.
Gai especially.
Maybe that's why, before he goes to fetch Sasuke from the hospital to begin his training, he sets out trying to find Gai. He checks the training grounds first and finds Tenten and Neji there. Tenten is helping Neji train but Gai is nowhere in sight. Not surprising, considering where Lee is currently and in hindsight, Kakashi probably should have checked there first.
Still, just so he doesn't make a wasted trip to the hospital, he steps out of the bushes and makes his presence known to the Genin. "Yo."
They both turn to him. It's the first time Kakashi has actually interacted with Gai's students in the year that he's had them. It's shocking, really, considering how much Gai loves to challenge him. Although, Gai hadn't interacted with Kakashi's students until the beginning of the Chunin Exams either. It almost makes him want to laugh and he's kind of sorry he missed that introduction. He would have loved to have seen the little brats' faces at meeting Maito Gai.
"Kakashi-sensei!" Tenten greets him eagerly, pink coloring her cheeks, while Neji doesn't acknowledge him at all. He's not surprised they know his name. Maybe the HyĹŤga is mad at him for stopping him from killing that Hinata girl?
"Is Gai at the hospital?" he asks, getting straight to the point. He doesn't have all day. Sasuke is waiting for him.
"Oh, yeah! You just missed him," Tenten tells him, her smile disappearing. "He's visiting Lee but said he'd be back soon if you want to wait."
It's just like Gai to divide up his time between his students despite his overwhelming worry about Lee. Kakashi waves the invitation off. "I'll go see him there. Thanks."
Tenten slumps in disappointment and Neji crosses his arms, turning away. He waves goodbye at them anyway. He doesn't need them complaining to Gai about his behavior and then Gai giving Kakashi a huge speech about treating young Genins with more respect.
He doesn't go into the hospital once he's there. He'll be back to get Sasuke and going into the building one time is one too many in Kakashi's mind. So, he waits outside, flaring his chakra a little to let Gai know he's there. He doesn't expect Gai to come out and greet him right away and about five minutes later, he is exiting the building with a wide smile.
Kakashi can already tell it's fake.
"Kakashi! My dearest Rival, what do I owe this pleasure?" Gai strolls up to him, arms out in a gesture to hug Kakashi. Kakashi lets him, wrapping his own arms around Gai's solid frame. He has a feeling Gai needs this comfort right now.
When they separate, Kakashi gestures with his head. "Take a walk with me."
Gai's smile twitches, threatening to fall but Gai has always been a master at forcing himself to smile through everything. It stays steady on his face. "Very well."
They walk in silence and they eventually make it to outside a hot spring. Kakashi leans down on the railing of a bridge, staring at the water beneath them. It reminds him that Naruto is probably searching for him this very second to train him and a pang of guilt clutches at Kakashi's chest. He does wish he could train both him and Sasuke. They both have very different skill sets, however, and if Sasuke is going to be going up against that sand jutsu, then Kakashi needs to focus on Sasuke at the moment. He'll have to get someone else to train Naruto and, although the thought to ask Gai to do it does cross his mind, Gai has too much on his plate right now. Plus, Naruto is going up against Neji. It might be a bit of a conflict of interest.
So, instead, he settles on someone else. "Is Ebisu available?"
Gai walks up beside him and leans his arms down onto the railing, much like how Kakashi is right now. "I believe so, yes. Why?"
"I was thinking of asking him to train Naruto before the final competitions in the Chunin Exams," he says.
Gai looks out into the water. "I think that would be a great idea. Ebisu is very capable. I can ask him if you want?"
Kakashi shakes his head. "Just have him meet me at the hospital. I have to pick up Sasuke."
Gai perks up at that. "Has Sasuke fully recovered?"
Kakashi picks his words carefully, thinking about Lee. "More or less."
Gai narrows his eyes at him, suspicion playing on his face. "You don't have to be gentle with me."
"And you don't need to pretend with me." Gai stares at him and Kakashi pokes him in the cheek. "Let yourself feel things."
Gai scoffs, goodnaturedly. "Says the man who is the master at suppressed emotions."
"I think we both are pretty good experts at it, wouldn't you say Gai-kun?" Gai scowls at the honorific. It's not very often Kakashi uses it. It's mostly to try and lighten the mood a bit. It doesn't seem to work. "Gai, what I said during the preliminaries about the gates…" He trails off, biting his bottom lip. He sighs and wonders if he sounds a bit hypocritical. He’s never been a fan of the gates for obvious reasons, after all. "I meant what I said afterward. I was out of line."
Gai shakes his head. "No." Kakashi furrows his brows in confusion. "You were right. I should have never taught Lee it. He's too young."
Kakashi frowns and reaches up to place a comforting hand on Gai's back. "You were even younger when your father started teaching you how to open the gates."
Gai huffs and pulls away from Kakashi. "And maybe he was wrong, too."
"Gai…"
"He died because he used the gates and… and I'm not condemning him for it. He used them to protect something precious to him, to protect me, and that is something to be proud of. But maybe… maybe I was too young, too?" Gai bows his head. "Maybe he should have never taught me it… because now Lee has almost died from using the gates."
"Gai," Kakashi pulls him closer so that their sides are pressed together. "That wasn't your doing. It was that kid from the Sand. He is the one who almost killed Lee."
"Lee would have given up sooner if he didn't have the gates."
"No, he wouldn't have." Gai looks up then, surprise written all over his face. "Gai, that child, is exactly like you when you were his age. You wouldn't have given up, would you?" Gai shakes his head. "Exactly. So gates or no gates, there is no doubt in my mind that Lee would have fought with everything he had and would have never given up."
"So, then you're saying it's a character flaw?"
Kakashi chuckles with exasperation, laying his forehead down onto Gai's shoulder. "No, I'm saying it's admirable." He lifts his head to look Gai in the eyes. "Stupid sometimes but admirable."
It gets Gai to laugh, a real laugh, and Kakashi's heart warms at the sound. He pulls him a little closer, carding his fingers into Gai's hair. He ruffles the strands, messing up the bowl cut and Gai tries to pull away in complaint. "Kakashi!"
Kakashi lets him escape and watches as Gai tries to smooth his hair back down with his lips set in a pout the whole time. It's adorable and he's glad he's managed to make Gai feel a little better. He's not very good at it most times but when he succeeds it makes him happy. Especially if it's Gai.
"Gai." Gai stops his ministrations on his hair, looking up at Kakashi. He's much more relaxed now, genuine seeming. "Lee will be okay. He's stubborn like you. Nothing will keep him down."
Gai stares at him for a few seconds, thinking, before a real smile breaks out on his face and he sticks out a thumbs-up in Kakashi's direction. "Most definitely, Rival!"
Kakashi chuckles again and, with an amused shake of his head, he throws an arm around Gai's shoulders, walking back to the hospital with him.
—————————————————————————————————
A/N: Don't worry. I didn't forget about the fact that Gai needs to have Ebisu come to the hospital. I just didn't write it in. What I imagine happening is, once back at the hospital, Gai uses a messenger turtle to instruct Ebisu to get to the hospital. It probably scares the shit out of Ebisu at first, thinking something bad might have happened to Gai until he gets there and Kakashi explains everything to him. He is not amused. XD
Thank you for reading!

Kakagai for 82 “I’m not your boss? Well then who is?”💕
AO3 Link
In the twenty-six years that he has been a shinobi there was never any time where Kakashi had thought to himself ‘yes, i would like to sit in an office and do paperwork all day’.
Not one, single moment.
He wasn’t judging those who wanted to be Hokage. In fact he’s pretty sure Obito never knew just how much reading was involved when one accepted the position. Even he had been surprised by the tall piles of paperwork he was greeted with on his first day, and he had heard Tsunade-sama complain about the ‘never ending paperwork’ multiple times.
He had made the mistake of thinking she was exaggerating.
“You’re almost there.” Peering up over the top of the report in his hands, he narrowed his eyes. There was a playful tone in Gai’s voice that didn’t sit well with him. It wasn’t the sound of a man excited for a challenge, or someone who had plans for the rest of his day that he wanted to get started on as soon as possible.
No. This was the voice Gai used when he allowed himself to enjoy someone else’s suffering.
“If you’re going to start teasing me you can leave.” he offered, even though that was the complete opposite of what he wanted to happen. He had invited Gai to spend the morning hanging out in his office because he missed the company. With Tenzo working around the clock to organize their ranks and hand out missions, the only people he saw at work were the council members, Shizune and whoever else he had the misfortune of having a scheduled meeting with.
The only time he saw Gai these days was when he finally got home after a long day of meetings, paperwork, and more human interaction then he had ever wanted in his life.
“If i leave you’ll just stop doing your paperwork and start reading your book instead. Or you’ll escape the watchful eyes of your Anbu guards and make Tenzo angry when they interrupt his work to ask for help finding you.” Both things that he was actually very likely to do. The second option was particularly fun because it kept his Anbu guards on their toes. Sometimes they needed a reminder to keep an eye on him at all times.
Not that it would help them at all. He had his ways of escaping even if they do have eyes on him.
“Gai, are you saying you’re only here to keep an eye on me?” Setting the report down he propped his elbows on the desk and laid his head in his hands. “That’s not very nice. I thought you liked to spend time with me.”
“I do like spending my time with you,” Gai assured him. “I prefer to spend time with you doing challenges, getting food or relaxing by the river.’
Just the thought of getting out of his office for some food has him glaring at the small mound of paperwork left on his desk. Seeing Gai laugh and challenge him to some ridiculous over the top competition, or relaxing by the river and napping in Gai’s arms. All of it sounded so much more interesting and enjoyable than the work he was stuck here doing.
“Tell you what,” Rolling himself forward, Gai stopped directly in front of the desk. “If you finish the paperwork in…” he examined the pile and thought for a moment. Kakashi could only guess that he was doing some math in his head to figure out an appropriate time limit to give him. “Let’s say half an hour?”
Half an hour?
He could have it done in twenty minutes if he really wanted to, but half an hour still required a lot of focus. More than he was really willing to put into doing paperwork. Especially since he actually had five hours left to his day so there really was no rush.
“And what do i get, hmm?” There had to be a worthy reward for him to put in that amount of effort. Otherwise he had no real reason to rush himself.
“What, isn’t being able to spend more time with me rewarding enough?” Kakashi narrowed his eyes. Of course it was. He would do anything to spend more time with Gai every day, but that wasn’t the offer Gai was making and he knew it. If that was the only thing he would get in return, Gai would have just said it up front. “Ok, fine. Well, if you finish all of your paperwork in twenty minutes I’ll buy lunch and dango. If you do it without complaining at all we can go hang by the river for a bit after too.”
That was all very tempting. All his favorite things to do with his turtle. He couldn’t think of anything to add to such a kind offer in return for a little effort.
Except…
“And you’ll let me sleep in tomorrow?” He asked, smiling when Gai groaned. “With added morning cuddles.”
“You know it’s better if you go in earlier, right?” Morning cuddles means late morning training. Gai hates starting his training late, even when he’s supposed to be putting his body under less pressure after nearly dying from opening the eighth gate during the war. “Besides, if you don’t show up on time Tenzo will come looking for you.”
Shaking his head, Kakashi leaned back in his chair.
“I could always tell him I ordered you to let me sleep in,” he offered. “He might complain to me about it, but it would get you out of trouble.”
“Except you seem to have forgotten one thing, smarty pants,” A playful smile pulled at Gai’s lips, and his eyes sparkled in a way that actually terrified Kakashi. “You’re not my boss. You can’t give me orders.”
Lies.
Horrendous, evil, terrible lies.
“I’m not your boss?” throwing a hand over his heart he gasped. This was unheard of. The Hokage, not the boss of a shinobi? Bullshit. “If i’m not your boss who is exactly, hmmm? Who’s keeping you in check?”
“That’s an easy answer,” rolling his wheelchair backwards, Gai turned towards the door and started to make his exit from the room. “Absolutely no one. Which is why I'm going to go bug Tenzo for the next thirty minutes. You better be done when i get back.”
No one?
Was that the perks of being retired? Having no boss to listen to?
If so, he really couldn’t wait to hand this hat and the damn job off to Naruto as quickly as possible. He hadn’t been free of orders and expectations since he was five years old.
It would be a nice change. Maybe he would be able to sleep in late and actually relax for once.
“Paperwork, Kakashi!” Gai’s words cut through his thoughts, pulling back to reality and the pile of paperwork still waiting to be finished. “And then freedom!”
No boss.
He laughed to himself.
Even when he was retired he’d still have a boss. After all, they could be eighty and barely able to function and there is no doubt in his mind that Gai will still be dragging him out of bed for morning training.
He’d just have to get all the cuddles he wanted after.

Welcome one and welcome all to head canons for my favorite tree man from Naruto who got relentlessly screwed in his ending. I don’t approve of it, he deserved to be happy and have his family instead of being stuck with his abuser while everyone moved on with their lives. No one has requested it except my own brain, and my brain won’t let me let this go so let me share how he would be happy, but in an x reader fashion because I mean, this is an x reader blog.
Also, this’ll be changed from that stupid ending because I refuse to accept it. Welcome to the delusional part of my mind where everything is fine.
Basically what I’m saying: YAMATO DESERVED TO BE HAPPY AND HE WILL BE BY MY HAND. SO DECREES OLIVE.
This is basically just word vomit but take it, tAKE IT-
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yamato x Reader hcs
- First and foremost: When everything’s settled down and Kakashi becomes hokage and what not, Yamato essentially becomes Kakashi’s Shizune.
- Trying to keep Kakashi in line, helping out with the paperwork, trying to keep from crying because “Senpai please you cannot be reading those books, you have work to do-”
- But it’s... nice. Sure, it’s a new set of frustrations, but they’re not terrible, and Yamato can honestly say he’s happy. He still gets to see his team on a regular basis, as well as everybody else, he gets to stay close to Kakashi and he’s not being alienated anymore. He can feel like he actually belongs in the village.
- That’s when he meets you, a dear and darling little civilian who recently took ownership over a plant shop after the owners had passed away.
- It was a shop he’d been frequenting for a few years now, seeing that he’s no longer going on missions, he has time on his hands, and he spends that time tending a garden.
- He walks into that shop, expecting to see the smiling face of the old woman, and imagine his surprise when it’s in fact someone his own age, and looking very adorable.
- “Ah, welcome to Buds and Blooms. My names (Y/N), I’ll be taking care of the shop from here on out. Is there anything I can help you with?”
- And our boi freezes for a second before waving awkwardly. “No, I’m all good. Thank you, though.” And off he goes wandering in the store, trying not to scream at himself for being so awkward.
- He gets what he came for, pays and walks out in an attempt to not embarrass himself anymore than he already has.
- But he’s a regular at that shop, so he comes back often, and the two of you talk while you’re registering his things.
- At first it’s just about plants, how Yamato’s garden is coming along, the plants you’re growing yourself. But the more you two meet, you begin talking about other things, he’ll gossip to you about Kakashi, you’ll tell jokes that literally have him snorting in laughter (he’s such a dork someone love him pLEasE-)
- And for the first time ever, there’s a light feeling in his chest, and it stays. It doesn’t fade when he goes to his house, and he’s alone in the dark, and the worst parts of his mind come out to get him. He can stave them off because he can look forward to seeing you.
- Yamato gets a lot more tolerant of Kakashi, which he obviously picks up on, and it’s not long before he figures out his little kohai has a crush. And who would Kakashi be if he didn’t meddle with his loved one’s lives?
- So that’s what he does, suddenly being a responsible hokage, taking on more work for himself, and telling Yamato to take more breaks, which he uses to go see you.
- The happier he notices Yamato is becoming, the more he knows it’s working. Until like a month or so later, he invites Yamato out for drinks and just goes “So, when are you going to ask out the lucky person you’ve been so smitten with?”
- “I-I’m sorry? I don’t know what you’re-”
- “Don’t try to lie to me, Tenzo. It’s obvious, and it’s been obvious for a while, why not just go for it?”
- And he’s silent for a moment, because Kakashi’s right. He should at least try, but then he realizes as happy as he’s become, he’s still broken inside. Years of abuse and war do not get fixed overnight and he figures you deserve someone who won’t wake up in the middle of the night screaming about the horrors of his past or the doubts he still gets that the only love he deserves is conditional.
- Kakashi frowns because he knows the face Yamato’s sporting and he won’t let his friend do that to himself and he interrupts the thought process. “Hey, eyes on me, Tenzo.” Once he has his attention, he continues. “I don’t want you selling yourself short. You’re a good, kind man and I’m sure the one you’re admiring knows it. I can’t order you to do this, but you should consider it. You’ve gone through years of putting yourself last, maybe it’s time you changed that.”
- Yamato remains silent, but he considers the words when he goes home that night. In the morning, he decides to do it.
- So, before he can talk himself out of it, he goes to your shop just as you’re opening it up and asks if you’ll go to the festival happening next week with him.
- You pause and he assumes you’re getting ready to reject him when a smile comes on your face. “Yamato, are you asking me out on a date?” And your grin widens when he nods with this flushed face. “I would love to!”
- and he perks up immediately because he really didn’t think you’d say yes, and he fumbles a little as you set up the details and as he’s walking away, he feels like he’s floating on cloud nine.
- the festival happens, everything goes great and it’s the start of a beautiful relationship.
- You’re going strong, you both enjoy each other’s company, and Yamato has completely fallen head over heels for you. He’ll literally do anything for you, just name it and it’s done.
- Not to say there aren’t rough parts, our boi has suffered a lot, both external and internal problems. He feels guilty because he doesn’t feel like he’s enough and he’s struggling to find his worth with you. But you’re always there to soothe his worries and offer advice when you can.
- The first time he realizes that this is real, this is unconditional love and support and you really won’t leave him if he has nothing to offer at that time, he cries. Full on, he sobs in your arms as you hold him tightly because this is what he’s wanted for the longest time, and he wasn’t sure if he was ever going to get it. He mutters “I love you” over and over again because you have honestly freed him.
- He wants to get married to you. Absolutely, once you’re both getting serious, he wants to marry you and have that commitment and he won’t even stutter through it. I mean, he’ll nervously smile as he goes down on his knee because he’s hoping you’ll say yes, but there’s not a hint of hesitation in his eyes when he asks you.
- “(Y/N), I have loved you for the longest time with my heart and soul. You’ve given me a home, a place to belong, and most of all, love. You are everything I have ever wanted in my life. Quite frankly I’m not sure if I deserve you, but I’ll be damned if I don’t spend the rest of my life trying to be the man you deserve anyways. That is, if you’ll have me.”
- SOMEONE BREAK OUT THE WEDDING BELLS
- It’s a relatively small wedding, really the only ones attending on his side are team seven, and I swear to you, you’ll never see a man look more in love in your life than when he sees you walking down the aisle. To him you look like a literal angel.
- Not a dry eye in the house, especially on Kakashi’s part because he’s so very, genuinely happy that his friend has found love like this and honestly, Yamato’s tearing up too because it feels like this is all some dream and he’ll wake up to reality.
- But it never comes.
- Eventually you’re all settled in, Kakashi relieved Yamato of his assistant duties and he helps you with your shop, seeing as he has a green thumb himself
- If you ever want kids, be prepared to at least adopt one. Not that Yamato wouldn’t want one you both created, but seeing as he’s been an orphan, he wants to save a least one from the same pain he went through.
- Though honestly, you already kinda have a kid in the form of Sai because Yamato is always looking out for that boy no matter what. They came from similar backgrounds after all, he wants to make sure he’s okay and adjusting to civilian life too.
- And he just… wants to grow old with you and share tender smiles and slow dance in the shop after it’s closed for the day.
- He loves you, and someone would have to be blind, deaf and dumb to not see that.

Fic time! Christmas special!
Fandom: Naruto
Timeline: When Naruto’s around 8-9
Christmas
“I wonder what I’ll get this year…”
“I’m sure my mom’s knitting socks for me again”
“I get chocolate every year”
“I bet I’ll get something cool; dad said so since I’m an academy student now!”
Naruto listened to his classmates with a small frown on his face. Who cared about something like Christmas? It was stupid; everyone was home, so no one came out to play! He hated Christmas!
…Maybe it’d be nice if he got some presents, too.
Not that he needed any.                                                                                          XXXXX
“It’s Christmas again already… what would you do if you were here?” Kakashi wondered as he stood in front of a grave “Rin… Obito…”
He sighed, adjusting his headband as he walked away. There was no use in thinking about it. They were gone, and that’s that… but if they weren’t, the three of them would probably be spending the Christmas together. All of them had lost their families after all.
“I should’ve paid more attention back then…”
Flashback
“Why do we need to invite Kakashi too?”
The young chuunin’s attention was caught when he heard his name. Looking down from the tree, he saw his teammates, Obito and Rin, walking down the path.
“Because he’s our teammate” Rin answered “We can’t just leave him alone during Christmas!”
“Can’t he spend it with his family or something…” it was really faint, but Kakashi did hear Obito’s muttering.
“He has no family, Obito” Rin tells the boy, who looks at her in surprise “That’s why it’s up to us to cheer him up during Christmas.”
Kakashi appreciated the thought, he supposed, but it was unnecessary. He didn’t care about Christmas.
…But if he didn’t go, Rin would be stuck alone with that idiot Obito. Rin was a good person and a decent comrade; it wasn’t a fate he’d wish on her.
Decision made, he jumped down, right behind the two.
“You called?” he asked, making Obito jump a foot in the air, while Rin was only mildly startled “Kakashi!”
And that’s how he had ended up spending Christmas with his teammates. And Guy. And Kurenai. And Genma. Asuma snuck in at some point, too. In fact, most of their classmates from the academy were there.
He wouldn’t have been needed after all.
And all this was made worse by all the hyacinths around. He hated those so much.
He was allergic.
Guy and Obito had a blast once they realized it.
They didn’t bother him the whole night though, and once they lost interest, Kakashi had just sat down in a corner, reading his book, hoping that this wouldn’t be repeated next year.
Flashback
“And it wasn’t”
Today, he’d give everything to make things so that it wasn’t the case.
But the past couldn’t be changed.
As he walks down the street, Kakashi doesn’t pay any mind to the children rushing home, no doubt looking forward to Christmas meals and spending time with their families. He’d been like that too once, a long time ago. Very long time ago.
“Well, this is a relatively peaceful era; maybe their innocence lasts longer” he thinks, trying to be optimistic.
“Christmas is stupid!”
…Or not. Looking behind him, he sees a blond child sulking with his hands in his pockets, slowly walking ahead. It takes him a few seconds, but eventually, Kakashi recognizes the boy: Minato-sensei’s orphaned son.
“Guess the kid has no one to celebrate with” he thinks before turning to continue on his way.
“Who needs presents anyway?”
“…” Kakashi almost, almost went and told the kid that he wasn’t fooling anyone. But he didn’t; it wasn’t any of his business. It wasn’t any of his business, so he should just keep walking and forget about it.
“…” too late. If he did nothing, he’d just end up feeling bad, now. Sighing, he began to tail the kid. After figuring out where he lived, the shinobi made up his mind. He’d get the boy a Christmas present. Just something small to lift the child’s spirits, no big deal.
Now he just had to figure out what the child would like.
XXXXX
Itachi watched his sleeping little brother, wishing that things were different. If only he could stay to spend the Christmas with him…
“I’ve already chosen my path” the Uchiha reminds himself, shaking his head “There’s no going back.”
Even so, it didn’t hurt to leave a present on Sasuke’s bedside table. The boy would never know it was him.
XXXXX
Kakashi sighs, thankful that he had finally been able to pick a gift and get it wrapped. Not that he was sure at all if the kid would like it or not, but could you blame him? He was an old soul, as some people called him, and had never really been much of a kid himself, so how would he know what a child would want for Christmas?
Eventually, he’d settled on a stuffed toy, hoping that it would work. Kids liked stuffed animals, right? Or was the boy too old for those?
“Well, sink or swim” Kakashi thought as he snuck in to the sleeping boy’s home “It’s not like I even had to do this in the first place.”
And yet, he really hoped the child would like it.

“What were you doing there?” Obito asks as Itachi sneaks out of the village. The other Uchiha barely looks at him before saying: “Personal business.”
“Went to see your brother, didn’t you?” the older one of the two asks, not waiting for an answer “Were you seen?”
“Of course no- “Itachi starts, but is interrupted by his own sneeze.
Raising an eyebrow under his mask, the man asks: “Did you catch a cold?”
“I don’t think so” Itachi says “Must be the season and all the hyacinths; I’m allergic.”
“Ah” is all Obito says before patting his cloak a few times “That’s pretty common.”
The two leave the village alone, but before leaving, Itachi can’t help but look over his shoulder one last time.
XXXXX
Sasuke stared at the present on the table with a frown on his young face, wondering where it had come from. Had the Hokage snuck in during the night? Creepy, but he couldn’t think of who else it could be from. Not that it’d be any less creepy had it been someone else.
“Tsk, I’m not a little kid anymore; I don’t need presents” the boy thought with a scowl, turning his back to the present and heading for the kitchen. And yet, he came back only a few seconds later “It’d be a waste to not at least see what it was.”
XXXXX
Naruto walked to his kitchen half asleep, rubbing his tired eyes. He could’ve slept longer, but he was hungry. It was time for some morning ramen.
“Huh?” the boy blinked sleepily, thinking that he was seeing things. There, on his kitchen table, sat a box neatly wrapped in red paper, finished with a white ribbon on top. It was a Christmas present. He blinked again, still not sure if it was really there, before smiling widely as he came to the conclusion that it really was there. Excited, he ran over, picking the thing up far more carefully that he ever held anything. He didn’t know what was in it and in case it was something that broke easily, he didn’t want that to happen. Carefully, he sat on the floor, putting the present down between his legs before pulling the ribbon off and starting to peel off the paper. When it was gone, he hesitated for a small moment before taking a hold of the box’s lid, lifting it and peeking inside, where a pillow sized stuffed animal, a dog, lay. Smiling widely, he took it out, no longer as careful as before since he’d realized it wasn’t something that would break easily. It was all white, and really fluffy. What kind of dog it was supposed to be, he didn’t know, but maybe he could ask his classmate Kiba about it? He seemed to know a lot about dogs. Not that it mattered; he liked it anyway.
Hugging the toy to his chest, Naruto got up from the floor, realizing that he was still hungry. It was time to eat.
It would only be later that he’d start to wonder where the present had come from.
XXXXX
Laying on his futon, Kakashi woke up to an itchy nose. He sneezed. He hated sneezing; it messed up his mask. Had he caught a cold? No, it didn’t feel like it; his eyes were a little watery. This felt more like an allergic reaction.
“I’m only allergic to one thing” he thought as he sat up, blinking after he did. Why exactly was his place filled with hyacinths, the only freaking thing in the world that he was allergic to? Sure, hyacinth was a Christmas flower, so getting some during Christmas time wasn’t suspicious at all, but who’d bother to sneak in to his home in the middle of the night to bring them, not to mention so many of them?
“There’s a small chance that Asuma might, but he knows I’m allergic and so wouldn’t take such a health risk. Who would?”
….
That wasn’t much of a question, really.
“Guy better watch out.”

Ink and paper
Summary: Sasuke comes back early to Konoha and feels jealous of Sai’s relationship with Sakura.
Rating: T
Characters: Sasuke Uchiha, Sakura Haruno, Sai
Relationships: Sasuke Uchiha/Sakura Haruno
For the Sasusaku month day 17: Ink and Paper
Coming back to Konoha is easier than he thought it would be.
He’s aware that; Naruto, the hero of Konoha, won’t allow anyone to give him a hard time or insult him in any way; He knows that Kakashi, the new Hokage, will move mountains with the council to give him a pardon and a new place in the village; He doesn’t doubt that Sakura, the village’s darling sweetheart, will vouch for his honestly and his innocence even when everyone knows he doesn’t possess neither of those qualities.
Even if he knows all of this, he’s still awfully surprised when he’s given pardon, when they grant him a home near the no-longer-existing Uchiha district. When Sakura accepts his invites to eat out alone with him and gladly kisses him and holds his hands as if he was deserving of such a loving treatment.
When they give him back his place in team seven.
Team Yamato nowadays or sometimes even team Sakura, now that she’s been granted a Jonin tittle. Every now and then, when they’re very lucky and the days are extremely peaceful or when the Hokage has to go out on a diplomatic mission, the whole team gets to reunite.
A six-men team, who would have thought.
He appreciates his new team.
Naruto is more reliable than ever, he’s grown to be a strong shinobi, a great friend and he’s matured beyond his years.
Sakura has been the one who’s changed the most on the team, she’s gone from being a very intelligent yet untrained Kunoichi to become the strongest woman of her village, a medical ninja whose abilities has surpassed the previous Hokage and a teammate that her comrades could count on.
Yamato is a breath of fresh air after years of a loving but layback Kakashi. Yamato is a man of structure. A bit of a pushover and sometimes really weird and scary, yes. But one of the strongest and wisest captains Sasuke has ever worked under.
Kakashi, to both, Sasuke’s disappointment and utter relief, hasn’t changed one bit. He’s still always late, still a buffoon and a pervert, but more than anything; still the greatest positive influence any adult has ever made on him.
And then, there’s Sai. His replacement.
Sasuke can acknowledge the improvements Sai brings to the team. With two powerhouses as Naruto and himself, one medical ninja who also can work as an offensive shinobi. A strategical long distance fighter completes their team as a lost piece completes a puzzle.
But the boy is still his replacement and Sasuke still gets jealous from time to time. Specially because of his close relationship with Sakura.
Sakura smiles kindly to Sai, allows him to call him horrible insults and they even go on friend’s dates as if such a thing existed when he and Sakura where only friends.
The day he finds Sakura sitting under the tree outside of Sai’s apartment as the Anbu calmly paints the scene with one of those creepy smiles of his adorning his otherwise blank expression, he feels that he needs to do something.
“What are you doing!?” He asks alarmed, his girlfriend looks beautiful under the rays of sunshine leaking through the tree’s branches and he feels a little sick knowing that Sai is painting every colour, every light, every single line a curve.
“I’m painting ugly, traitor,” smiles Sai. Not taking his eyes away from the canvas. “Could you shut up please?”
Sakura doesn’t move, she knows that Sai’s artistic self is easily vexed and she doesn’t want to ruin or interrupt his work “I’ll see you later. Alright Sasuke-kun?” She mumbles under her breath. “Just a few hours.”
Sasuke feels immature when he huffs irritated and leaves in a hurry and feels even more like a child when he turns over his own apartment in search of ink and paper.
His Sharingan grants him photographic memory, he has Sakura engraved in his brain since the very moment he woke up in the Naruto bridge after his nearly-death experience to the sight of her curtain-long pink hair surrounding his face as a broken child, when he woke up to her green eyes shining under her tears.
He tries to draw her pretty face, her short hair parted by her red headband, her petite figure, her long legs covered by long shinobi boots, her slim arms that can cause so much damage.
It doesn’t turn out quite as pretty as he imagines.
The draw is amateur to be kind, Sakura looks like a stick figure with clothes and hair. He even used some green crayons he found around from who-knows-where to colour the green circles he draws as her eyes.
He gets frustrated after a while and tears out the page to start a new one, this time Sakura with her long hair, before the chunin exams. The result is the same, her dress doesn’t have a form, her slim arms look a bit deformed and her hair looks witchy.
He doesn’t stop.
Pages upon pages of childish pictures of his girlfriend cover the floor by the time Sakura herself enters his apartment with the keys she got for herself even before he mustered the courage to ask her out.
“Sasuke-kun!” She calls cheerful, taking off her boots with incredible fluidity “Sasuke-kun! Are you there?” Sasuke doesn’t respond but Sakura can easily feel his chakra inside his home, so she enters the first room looking for him.
The first thing she sees is a piece of paper thrown in the floor, then another, and then some others. Sakura crouches to reach out one of the pages and stifles a laugh with a hand over her mouth when she notices that is a drawing of herself, maybe, is she squints her eyes a little.
Following the trail of cute drawings, she finds her lover in his room, sitting by his bed on the floor and furiously drawing away in an old looking notebook.
“Sasuke-kun?” Asks Sakura, gentle and amused.
“Sakura!” Screams Sasuke in an uncharacteristic display of emotions, looking at her with big, bright eyes and his face red with embarrassment.
Sakura smirks, her eyes drop to the paper on Sasuke’s hands and her expression goes from kind to devious “What are you doing, Sasuke-kun?”
“Nothing!” He exclaims, hiding the paper behind his back.
“Huh…” She smirks, lowering her knees to the floor and kneeling by his side. Sakura reaches behind Sasuke’s back for the drawing he’s surely hiding. Sasuke tries to move away but his girlfriend is smarter and sits forcefully on his torso rendering him hopeless to her feminine wiles.
She snatches the paper and studies the drawing. “It’s cute,” she smiles, reviewing the little stick figure of her breaking the ground with one shakily-drawn heeled boot. “Can I keep it?”
Sasuke should say no, he feels somewhat humiliated by Sakura experiencing any less than a perfect performance from him.
But Sakura’s flirtatious tone of voice, the weight of her warm body on his torso and the sight of her perky little breasts directly in front his face, every single detail makes him weak and forces him to dumbly nod his head in agreement.
“Thank you!” She chirps like a spoiled child and kisses him full on the mouth.
Sasuke doesn’t feel so bad anymore.

I'm thinking of the opposite now where Kakashi babysits young team 7 in a modern au and Gai thinks they're his kids
Tumblr media
It has been a few days since Gai last saw Kakashi out with his kids. He assumed that it was because of other plans that they had, or something unexpected coming up. Whatever it was, he reminded himself over and over again that they would be back.
This was their favorite coffee shop. Kakashi loved stopping in for a cup of coffee and treating his kids to a drink and a snack in return for an hour of peace and quiet. It was one of the most adorable exchanges Gai had ever seen between a father and his kids, and he just wished that he could join.
That Kakashi would one day invite him to sit with them and have a drink. Maybe spend his break with them, or invite him to partake in their quiet hour on one of his days off.
It was a dream of course. There was no way Kakashi would actually make an offer. That would involve Kakashi being single, and given the fact that he had three kids following him around every day, Gai really doubted he was.
Still, when that front door opened and a head of silver hair became visible over the top of the display case he was working behind, Gai couldn’t help but smile.
“You look like you’re working as hard as ever,” Kakashi’s smooth voice called out to him, a playful look in his eyes when Gai stood to face him. “Miss me?”
“How could I not?” He tried to sound playful, but it was the truth. Out of all the people he saw through the day, Kakashi was always the one he looked forward to the most. Not seeing him for four days straight had been a little tough.
“Sorry, I went on a little trip,” As if on cue, Naruto came running up behind Kakashi. A bright smile on his face.
“Kaka,” the little kid tugged on his leg. “Can you get me a muffin?”
Not waiting for Kakashi’s answer, Gai picked up the raspberry muffin that he knew Naruto loved so much, and placed it on a plate. “So, where did you go?” he asked, making his way towards the till while Kakashi followed. Naruto rushing back off towards the table that him and the other two had claimed.
“So,’ stopping in front of Gai, Kakashi smiled. “I didn’t miss your day off, did i?”
His heart hammered in his chest. Mind racing, trying to figure out just what Kakashi was attempting to ask him while he tried to keep his cool. Not wanting to give away the absolute mess that he was because of that one simple question.
“My day off is tomorrow,” he clarified. “why? Are you going to miss me?”
“No, I was just wondering if maybe you wanted to hang out,” Holding out a bill for Gai, Kakashi waited for him to take it before leaning on the counter. “Or did I miss my chance while I was on vacation?”
Miss his chance?
Hang out?
Gai could feel the sweat rolling down his forehead. Kakashi was asking him out. The man he had been staring at for months. The one who came in every day for some coffee and quiet, was asking him out.
And he had no idea how to respond.
“W-what about…” his eyes scanned over to the three kids sitting at their usual table reading the books that they had brought with them. “I mean, would they even…
“Why do their opinions matter?” Kakashi frowned.
“they’re your kids.”
“My-“
For the first time since he had met Kakashi, Gai was graced with a look of complete and utter confusion. A look that he admittedly didn’t think Kakashi was capable of, given how much he seemed to know about everything Gai had ever asked him about.
The man spent most of his time answering random questions from his kids, but somehow Gai’s comment had been the one thing that had left him stumped. It was honestly a little amazing.
“Gai, they’re not-“ He pursed his lips. Clearly a little annoyed with his inability to speak as smoothly as he usually did. “I baby sit them.”
Babysit?
“You-I,” now Gai felt like the idiot. For months he had been watching Kakashi come into the café with three little kids in tow and just assumed that they were his kids. And because of that, he had been afraid to ask Kakashi out.
After all, what time did a single father have to date?
“I pick them up every morning that their parents work and take care of them for the day,” Kakashi continued. “Their parents are already talking about having me tutor them when they’re a bit older for personal reasons.”
Gai didn’t much care for more detail. His brain was still stuck on the fact that Kakashi wasn’t a dad.
That he was single and able to date and with that freedom he had asked Gai out.
And Gai had been stupid enough to think…
“Where do you want to go?” he asked, determined not to screw up this chance any further. “I don’t have a car so I’m a little limited but…”
“How about we just start here?” Kakashi chuckled. “then you can tell me all the things you assumed about me. Judging on what I’ve already heard, this could be quite the story.”
The date hadn’t even started and Gai already felt like crawling into a hole and dying of shame. The only upside of that was that things couldn’t possibly get worst from this point.
Right?

[ 365 Days of SasuHina || Day Three Hundred Sixty-Three: Strange Children ] [ Uchiha Sasuke, HyĹŤga Hinata, Uzumaki Naruto ] [ SasuHina ] [ Verse: A Light Amongst Shadows ] [ AO3 Link ]
“So what’s gonna happen when you have kids?”
“...excuse me?”
Hearing the tinge of temper in his friend’s voice, Naruto backpedals...figuratively, and literally. Hands lift defensively, as if expecting to be struck. “It’s a serious question!”
Giving Naruto a narrow-eyed glance, Sasuke’s brow furrows. “...it’s rather vague. And you’re assuming a lot. Who said anything about us having kids? We’re hardly even seeing each other.”
Blinking blue eyes and clearly trying to judge Sasuke’s mood before he relaxes, Naruto replies, “...well, it’s...y’know. I figured you’re the kinda person who isn’t gonna date just anybody, teme. Given how, uh…” A pause, fishing for the right word. “...selective you are, I thought if you made any kind of move, it...was gonna be with a lotta conviction. Right?”
“Tch…” Sasuke finds himself a bit surprised at Naruto coming to that conclusion. “...you’re not wrong. I’ve put a lot of thought into this...and not just because I’m serious.”
“...whaddaya mean?”
The Uchiha heaves a light sigh. “...you know well enough it’s not exactly safe being close to me. There are still plenty of people angry with me. Including some pretty powerful people.”
“Well, yeah…”
“So I didn’t want to put anyone I care about through unnecessary danger.”
Naruto blinks...and then brightens in understanding. “...you mean…?”
“If Hinata was serious - if she really wanted this to happen - she had to realize just how much her life was going to change. Not just due to danger, either. Her entire reputation is going to be brought down by mine, now. And she’ll never get rid of that stigma unless people change their mind about me. And let’s face it...that’ll be a long time coming.” He stares off ahead, expression a bit stony. “...she had to know what she was getting into. How much she’ll be judged, ridiculed...and likely attacked.”
The blond sighs, rubbing a hand along the rear of his neck. “...guess I, uh...didn’t think about it that far.”
“I can’t afford not to. Everyone close to me is going to be affected one way or another. But her most of all. You’re my teammate, as are Sakura and Kakashi. Sai, to a point...Yamato. But that’s not something you chose. Hinata is willingly putting herself into this mess. And I didn’t take that arrangement lightly. We talked long and hard about it. And I even did my best to convince her not to.”
“What? Why?! During all the time I’ve known you, you’ve never cared about anyone the way you care about her. Why throw that away?”
“Because sometimes it’s kinder to push away what you love than drag them down with you,” Sasuke cuts in, tone a bit curt. “...it’s because I care about her that I had to be sure. If she had any doubts, I had to find them. Because this is serious, Naruto. There are people who want to hurt me. Kill me. And she’ll be the first one they target to do so.”
“Hinata’s not weak -”
“And I know that. She’s not a jōnin for nothing. But the people who’ve cropped up so far...they worry me. They feel dangerous. And while I know she’s capable, I don’t know what we’re up against. And I won’t assume they’re weak. If anything, I’ll assume the worst, so I can do my best to prepare for it.”
Naruto heaves a heavy sigh. “...yeesh…”
“...yeah. But no matter how much I needled her, tried to convince her otherwise...she wouldn’t back down. That’s the only reason I let this continue. We’re adults. She can make her own decisions. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to let anything slide. Yes, I’ve pretty much made up my mind...but we’re still going about this the proper way. She has time to change her mind. Maybe, if she decides to leave, she’ll no longer be a target. We’ll just have to see how things go...but we’re not leaping right into a wedding and kids,” he then finishes sourly, circling back to the blond’s original point.
“All right, all right! I’m just curious about, y’know, bloodline stuff.”
“...in what regard?”
“Well...dōjutsu stuff mainly, I guess. I mean, you’ve both got pretty strong kekkei genkai. Think it’ll react strangely?”
Sasuke perks a brow. “...I have no idea. As far as I know, our lines haven’t ever crossed...or if they did, I never saw the result. You think I’m going to have strange children -?”
“I dunno! Just...kind of a weird thing to think about. Like, could a Sharingan and a Byakugan...combine? Maybe have the tomoe pattern in a white eye, or something?”
“...how do you have time to sit and think of these things?”
“What, you haven’t considered it?”
“No. Because it’s not an immediate concern. And I highly doubt they’d in any way combine into one kekkei genkai. The Sharingan came from the Byakugan. We’d probably just have kids with either one or the other.”
“Ooh! What about one in each eye?”
“...I…” His brow furrows at that. “...it seems unlikely. But...I don’t know. I’m not a geneticist. And it’s not like there’s many other Uchiha I can just walk up to and ask.”
“I know, I know...but man, wouldn’t that be weird! I mean...imagine trying to use both at the same time. I think my brain would explode!”
“There’s a lot of very simple things that could make your brain explode,” Sasuke retorts flatly.
“Oi!”
“...well, for now, I don’t have answers for you,” Sasuke then sighs. “And I might never. It really just...depends.”
“Okay, but...when you do have kids, you gotta show me!”
“I’m sure you’d see them eventually. If they happen.”
The pair then part, Sasuke making his way back toward the Uchiha compound.
...damn that Naruto, now he can’t stop thinking about it!
There’s no way the two eyes would combine. That’s just ridiculous. But the concept of a child having one eye from each honestly bothers him. Would they have to be like him, and Kakashi: keep one eye covered as not to confuse or exhaust their brain? Surely the different inputs from the eyes would be a nightmare to process at the same time.
...would it be cruel to subject a child to an existence like that?
“Sasuke-kun?”
Ah...perfect.
Turning to see Hinata coming down a side street, he simply greets, “Hinata.”
“Are you all right? You had a rather...troubled expression.”
“Just thinking about something stupid Naruto said earlier. It’s nothing.”
Her head tilts, and he inwardly curses her ability to always look so innocent and inviting. “...I hope it didn’t upset you.”
“No, not really. Just something I’d...rather not consider.”
“Do you want to talk about it…?”
No, he doesn’t want to talk about it. Doesn’t want to, in any way, imply that he was thinking about the possibility of children in their future. It’s far too soon for that, hypotheticals or not. “...it’s fine. Don’t worry about it.”
She blinks pale eyes at him, brows wilting a bit. “...well, I won’t pry...but, um...your adamance is rather telling, Sasuke-kun.”
...right. Because if it wasn’t a big deal, he’d briefly summarize and that would be that. But withholding it from her only makes it all the more suspicious. Pinching the bridge of his nose, he sighs curtly. “...Naruto was suggesting rather...concerning outcomes for possible children between an Uchiha and a Hyūga. Regarding their eyes.”
Another blink, looking completely unphased. “...you mean how their kekkei genkai would manifest?”
“...yes.”
“Hm...I really don’t know. I know that having children outside the clan was a very, um...rigorous process for us,” she muses. “Given how prized the Byakugan is, and the seal...any children of outside marriages had to be monitored and sealed if need be. So...if there had ever been a match between our clans before, it would probably be noted. But I’ve never heard of it. So...I really have no idea. What was your worry…?”
“...what if they had one of each? A Byakugan, and a Sharingan? That just seems like it would be disastrous. Can you imagine?”
“Well, I...guess it’s a possibility, but...surely a rare one.” Her brow furrows. “I don’t know w-why the body would take DNA regarding the eyes and just...split it down the middle like that. I mean, heterochromia is very rare. It would likely be about the same odds. Not that I know all that much about genes, but...I wouldn’t worry about it, Sasuke-kun.”
Her answer, slowly mulled over, actually makes him feel a lot better. “...I see.”
As he appears to relax, Hinata smiles. “Well...you know how, um...eccentric some of Naruto-kun’s thoughts can be.”
“Yeah, true.” Letting the subject rest, he then gives her a glance. “...that doesn’t...bother you?”
“Hm?”
“Him...speculating like that?”
Hinata blinks once more, apparently not expecting the question. “...why would it?”
It’s Sasuke’s turn to hesitate, and he only gets all the more flustered as he feels his ears heat up. “It’s just, you know...it implies...things it shouldn’t imply. That’s all. I mean...we’re not that serious yet.”
Taking in his expression, Hinata has to fight to keep a straight face. Never did she think she’d see him like this! “Well, true. I don’t know...I guess I’m just used to talk like that, given how my clan, um...treats discussion of new generations. Besides...it’s a possibility. Not a certainty, I suppose...but I don’t mind it.”
He...isn’t sure what to say to that.
Seeing that he’s clearly a bit in over his head with all this, Hinata finally lets loose a giggle into the cuff of her sleeve. “A-anyway...don’t worry, Sasuke-kun. It will all be fine. I’ll see you tomorrow for our shift, ne?”
“...uh...yeah. Right.” Taking that as her offering him an out from this conversation, he says a quick goodbye and retreats.
She watches him go with a mixture of amusement and exasperation. “...boys,” she then notes quietly to herself, shaking her head and making her way home.
                                                              .oOo.
Some random, mostly-silly my-canon stuff xD Poor Sasuke...why does Naruto have to give him such troubling thoughts? Jeez! And yes, I know that Kishimoto has said that a Hyōchiha babb would have one eye of each, and I TECHNICALLY don't know enough about genes to counter that (and it IS a fantasy world with magic eyeballs), but...tbh I just don't see how that would work very well. SO in this canon we just kinda...ignore that for the most part. Neat concept, but...I just feel like it would be very messy in execution. So we have Tenkai with his Sharingan and Chikyō with her Byakugan, and we leave it at that lol      Buuut yeah! It's very late, so I'm gonna go crawl into bed~ Thanks for reading! -Two more days kjfdgjdhgf-

99. Playing House
Kakashi planted a kiss on Rei’s forehead before watching her depart. It was a cruel irony the way things worked out: he had the next few days off while Rei was being sent on a lengthy mission. Normally he would feel restless and impatient for her return but this time, he was not complaining. With the house all to himself, he had endless opportunity to plan. He had three days before he was going to propose.
Setting the date was one thing but figuring out how exactly to do it was another matter entirely. He couldn’t just spring a proposal on her out of the blue. No, he needed to build around it, lead up to it, segue into it. Once she was gone, he stood there in the living room frozen as if everything would suddenly come to him in a fit of fateful epiphany. It took him all of five minutes to realize that that was not going to happen. Sighing, he rubbed his tired eyes and began scouring for inspiration.
Rei would likely get frustrated with him if she could see the mess he was making of the house but it was fine. He would clean up before she returned. He wasn’t sure what, exactly, he was looking for but soon it didn’t matter. As he flicked through the books on the shelf and toyed with sentimental knick knacks, he felt his mind spiral into that familiar pit of aimless nostalgia. The realization hit him like a ton of bricks: he was going to ask Rei to marry him. Really, truly marry him. This wasn’t just some boundless fantasy floating like a cloud in his head. In three days he was going to drop down onto one knee and ask her to be his wife.
Thinking back, he didn’t think he had ever imagined that one day things would come to this. He remembered the day they first met so clearly, that feeling when he first laid eyes on that fussy little baby in Hana’s arms. He couldn’t identify it then but he was sure he knew of it now. An innate yearning to protect her and care for her. Perhaps it wasn’t fully love then but if not love, then what? He didn’t know any other name for it.
Toshio lumbered forward and nuzzled Kakashi’s hand, vying for attention. Never one to say no to a dog, Kakashi settled onto the living room floor and scratched behind his ear. Drenched in his own nostalgia, Kakashi was suddenly sure he understood what it was that had drawn Rei to this dog so many months ago. He wasn’t sure if she remembered, seeing as he hadn’t until just then, but he quickly recalled a plush dog that Rei clung to as a child. It’s white fur had quickly grown dirty and matted from fervent love and play, the threading of his eyes and nose loosening. For at least two years, that dog was her everything just as Toshio was to her now. A small smile crept upon Kakashi’s lips as he envisioned those sticky summer days.
Sakumo had never been opposed to keeping an eye on Rei when her parents went out of town. He rested a hand atop her head as she hugged that plushie tight against her chest, watching as her mother and father disappeared toward the train station. She had no idea how long they’d be gone, though in that moment of departure it felt like she would never see them again. Kakashi intertwined his fingers with hers and fed her a comforting smile, hoping it would be enough.
No matter how sad or scared the goodbyes may have made her, Kakashi always had a way of washing away her doubts. They’d race around the backyard, splashing in the lake and playing fetch with the ninken and throwing tufts of grass at one another. Kakashi would watch her toss her toy high into the air with uproarious laughter, then grab his hand firmly and insist on playing house. “I’ll be the mommy and you can be the daddy, and Puppy can be our baby!” she’d say. As cavalier as he’d appear on the outside, deep down seeing her grin and jump and tumble through the grass made his heart soar. He wanted to make her happy even if it meant playing games he otherwise would consider kind of pathetic and lame.
Sakumo called them in for dinner just as the sun had started to set and all the tiny gnats began swarming the yard. Rei, sticky and tired, had collapsed into the grass sprawled out like a star. “Come on, we have to go inside” Kakashi told her but Rei merely frowned at him and shook her head.
“I can’t go on!” she sighed dramatically, draping an arm over her eyes. “Carry me, ‘Kashi!”
Kakashi rolled his eyes and shook his head while scooping her up off the ground. A satisfied grin spread across her lips as she wrapped her arms around his shoulders and they started inside. She tried to ignore the nagging feeling in the pit of her stomach that something, however, was amiss.
It didn’t hit her until bedtime: her toy dog was gone. Her eyes widened as she sat bolt upright and scanned the room, her heart beating faster with every second. “’Kashi!” she whisper-shouted across the room. Kakashi was already snugly in bed, lying flat on his back with his eyes plastered shut. Rei could never understand how that was comfortable. When he gave no reply, she threw her pillow at him and whispered again, “Kakashi!”
“Hmm…what?” he asked, not even opening his eyes.
“Puppy’s gone” she replied. There was a slight tremor in her voice that, if Kakashi hadn’t been half asleep, he would’ve immediately noted as concerning.
Because he was half-asleep, however, Kakashi merely patted Bull curled up at his side and murmured “Puppies are right here…”
“Not them, you idiot!” Rei whined. She kicked the blankets off her legs, feeling the sweat bead on her brow as her stomach began to churn. “My puppy! My plushie! He’s gone! I-I can’t sleep without him! Kakashi!”
The anxiety in her voice was almost palpable now. Kakashi snapped awake and searched her frantic face, knowing that the only way out of this was through. He hurdled over the dogs, their ears pricking up as they considered the circumstances, and knelt down in front of Rei. “Whoa, wait, hey, just calm down!” he said. “Everything is going to be okay, we’ll go out and find him.”
“B-but it’s so dark out, what if something happens! What if—”
“Nothing is going to happen” Kakashi assured her. And then he thought up a terrible plan. A terribly wonderful, brilliant plan. He glanced over to his ninja hounds, standing attention, already awaiting instruction from their master.
Without an ounce of hesitation, Pakkun sauntered forward and presented his paw to Rei, a silent invitation to touch his little pink toe pads. She did so, forcing a nervous smile, as the dog said, “We’ll help you find him. You can count on us.” The other dogs nodded in agreement.
Kakashi chuckled as the plan began to take shape in his mind. Not understanding the context, however, Rei shot him a fierce glare. “What’s so funny?” she asked.
Shaking his head, Kakashi turned to his ninja hounds and announced, “We’ll make it into a contest. Whoever finds Puppy first gets a special treat.” If they weren’t determined already, they certainly were now. Bull, in particular, seemed rather motivated, his eyes wide and gleaming at the prospect of good food.
Together, they snuck down the hallway and into the backyard, careful not to wake Sakumo. The dogs bolted through the grass, their noses to the dewy ground. Rei watched from the porch with anticipation, clutching her hands to her chest in her toy’s absence. “What if they can’t find him? What if I never see him again?” Rei asked.
“You will” Kakashi replied. “Don’t you trust my dogs?”
“I-I do! I just—” Rei panicked.
“Then there’s nothing to worry about” Kakashi interrupted. He placed a hand on her shoulder and gazed out upon the yard. The soft breeze through the gras, the way the moon shone upon the surface of the lake—it was all so ethereal. He knew the reason they were out at midnight was in no way pleasant, but this individual moment filled him with so much childish joy. It was so private, something shared just between the two of them, like something out of a storybook. The dog’s tails swayed above the tall grass like periscopes and the air was humid and sweet. He wondered if, despite her panic, Rei felt it, too.
He had no idea what time it was when Pakkun was finally successful. He trotted forward without a word, the plushie hanging limply in his mouth. Rei gasped and reached for it, by now drowsy but forcing herself to stay awake. Pakkun smiled proudly at her as the other ninken made their way back. “I told you we’d find him for you” Pakkun smiled. Rei wrapped her arms around his neck in a tight hug before Kakashi stood and guided her by the shoulders back to bed.
“Thank you, ‘Kashi” she whispered as he tucked her in. The more she thought about it, the clearer it was to her that he really didn’t have to go to all of that trouble. She questioned whether she even deserved such kindness. After all, it was her fault the toy was left behind in the first place. He could’ve just as easily told her it was too bad and that maybe now she’ll keep better track of her things but no. He sent out an entire search party for her. He stayed beside her in her time of need. And now as he ensured her comfort, he looked at her with a certain youthful tenderness that made her heart amp up yet again.
“It’s really no problem” Kakashi replied. Then, as a small smile crept upon his lips, he replied, “After all, it’s the daddy’s job to take care of the mommy, isn’t it?” Rei’s cheeks burned bright red and her heart swelled as she watched him turn and return to his own bed. She fell asleep before she could say anything else on the matter.
Kakashi stayed up especially late that night just to watch her, guarding her from the nightmares she was so prone to face. It was the least he could do. Even if they were abstract, they still fell under his jurisdiction.
It was so strange to think about how much time had passed since then, and of everything that had changed. They were older now and not nearly so naïve. Toshio rested his head in Kakashi’s lap and sighed, closing his heavy eyes. Kakashi leaned back against the couch and watched as the patches of sunlight danced across the living room wall. So much had changed, but one still thing remained and that was how strongly he felt about her. He knew now that that magnetic pull from his youth was, at the very least, the foundation of his love for her. It had been a privilege to see her grow and change over the years, to strengthen into the incredible woman she was now. Kakashi could hardly fight the smile growing on his face the more he thought about her and the commitment he was about to make. He had never been more sure of anything in his life. He wanted this, he was destined for this. She was his past, his present, and most importantly his future. He wanted to live every day like those childhood memories of playing house. To love her and help her and take care of her. To start a family with her. To start his life with her. There was no other way to imagine his future. He closed his eyes and let that wave of refreshing excitement wash over him, let himself really, fully feel it. The start of their forever was only a few days away.
