Hello, veteran Larrie here making my reappearance on tumblr to voice some of my thoughts on babygate (the antis on twitter have been wishing death on larries so I figured here would be a safer-ish? place to post).

For context, I’ve been in the fandom since end of 2012 beginning of 2013 and so I witnessed babygate happening in real time. I remember how genuinely upset H was the day Louis told the interviewer he was “buzzing” and how pictures of B and her bump were all over the internet.

I always thought the timing of babygate was weird— especially considering L never officially got a paternity test (which don’t even get me started on that)— but what was really odd to me was after F was born and L was always out and about during holidays when F was meant to be with him, which to me was the antithesis of who L would be as a father. There is nothing anyone could say to convince me that both he and Jay would’ve fought to make sure that child spent more time with them, especially after Jay got sick.

Now, perhaps this would have made more sense if the child wasn’t posted all over social media whenever he was with the Tomlinson family, but to me it seemed that every time F was there a social media post was made. Not to mention that B’s mom would regularly post F on social media.

Anyway, flash forward to 2024 where I swear my ptsd from 2015-16 is flaring up because somehow the larries are to blame for the new statement that they’re no longer going to show F’s face. First, his face has been shown for 8 years and it’s not like people haven’t been commenting on it (e.g., he’s L’s twin) so that leads to the question of why now?

Second, most of the larries I’ve interacted with and seen online try to never interact with any social media posts made on F because many of us don’t believe that he’s L’s son not to mention that fact that that’s a child and it’s none of our business to be interacting with those posts. In fact, the people I’ve seen obsessing over it by commenting on pictures posted, etc. are antis obsessed with F (which could be a whole other discussion post because that is just crazy to me as well).

Third, it’s mind boggling that antis are so pressed about a child’s face being hidden. Shouldn’t they be happy that F is being protected given the fact that posting minors on the internet can lead to negative consequences for the child?

So, in summary, someone please explain to me how in the world you could blame this new babygate development on larries when many of us try to stay as far away from interacting with those posts as possible.

And why are people wishing death on me for retweeting gifs from the early days of larry when I try very hard to stay in my lane and not interact with antis. I promise you H and L are not seeing my account with less than 500 followers (rip because I can’t get back into my old twitter account). It’s really taking me back to 2015-16 where people were seeking others out to send that kind of hate.

The Archive

Introduction On 14 June 2020, I accidentally deleted my tumblr, wiping out a blog that I had been maintaining since January 2011.  I was distraught due to losing a lot of fond memories – and crushed at the thought of so much of my writing disappearing.  I hadn’t been very disciplined about keeping offline back-ups of my work, so when my blog disappeared, so did a large collection of poems, short stories, vignettes and fanfics.

Over the last few years, I’ve steadily recovered a decent chunk of my writing (about 300 pieces) thanks to my friends reblogging my posts and being diligent with their tagging systems.  I’ve now been able to archive and remaster my poems and prose pieces – though my fanfiction remains in the ether (which, to be honest, I’m okay with). On that note, I would like to express immense gratitude to the people whose blogs I recovered my works from:

I know a lot of these bloggers either are no longer on tumblr or use these accounts (and tumblr wouldn't allow me to tag everyone?); even so, I want to share my thanks. And thank you to everyone else who read, shared or otherwise enjoyed my writing over the years.  I hope that it inspired deep feelings and I hope that it bought you comfort.  I want you to know that I wouldn’t still be pursuing writing if it wasn’t for all the support you sent my way.  I read and savoured your comments and tags and, I promise you, I am grateful for all the love I received. Methodology While it would have been simpler to reblog the old posts, save for those that were trapped under a Read More (and a fair few pieces fell into this category), for this archiving project, I opted to take the opportunity to edit my works (also, I didn’t particularly want to bombard my friends’ notes by reblogging ancient posts).  This gave me a chance to appropriately re-format some works which had, unfortunately, originally looked quite ugly! The editing process was incredibly interesting – I ended up making changes to almost all my posts, so it’s good to know that I’ve definitely grown as a reader and writer over the last decade.  A very small number of the posts were brand new for the blog, but at this stage, I’m happy to count them as part of my archive.  For me, it’s important to compartmentalise and draw a divide between the writing I shared then and the writing that I will, hopefully, go on to pen in the future. I’m still in the process of proofreading: some of my tags have typos and there are certainly some errant dashes, among other issues, here and there.  Nevertheless, I’m satisfied with the state of things for now. Some posts are titled [‘Circa …’].  If I had been savvier about using tumblr mobile in conjunction with the web version, I could have recovered all of the exact dates of my original posts.  However, what’s done is done and I am satisfied with what I was able to accomplish. The Bitch is Back

Admittedly this is a wild title for someone who had absolutely zero presence or following on this website in the past, despite spending unending hours reblogging pictures of old cameras and cigarettes when I was a teenager and early university student. But I'm back.

Everything feels quite different, I'm finding myself having to search directory items for functions that I could do with my eyes closed when I was 16; "where are my drafts", "are likes default public or private". Other questions you can't google as easily. Is it uncool to use a free blog theme? How are you viewed in the microcosm culture of the website for using a picture of your real face instead of a character or avatar?

The main drive to get back in to tumblr was to escape from twitter, which I was starting to feel like was making me stupider. There are two accounts I'll miss: my friend Autumn who posts photos of her beautiful sewing and quilting projects (she tufted a chair the other day??? She's so cool.) and that menswear guy who's always dunking on people wearing bad suits.

The other main reason was that I want to write. And I want to write about me. I'm trying to develop some more language and attention-span improving habits; my partner Jethro sat down on the couch with me the other day and told me that he was starting to feel worried about the amount of time I'm spending just aimlessly scrolling before getting up to start my day in the mornings. I agree with him, and it's not even like the habit makes me feel good. It's just void stuffing. We'll start with a migration to a new website where I can write longform. But, you know, wherever you go, there you are.

It's felt like a much busier summer than it actually has been, but pockets of very high activity have left me feeling exhausted frequently. My brother in law Fionn came to stay with us from Toronto for a couple days so we took him out to experience some true Vancouver culture: shooting pool and drinking two pitchers of beer at the Ivanhoe.

We also stuffed him full of good pasta and bread at my favourite Italian place before putting him on the plane back home.

I also completed annual summer maintenance at my theatre. We usually put on movies while we clean lights and this year the request was for 1954 Godzilla. This was a really interesting watch (that I'm not prepared to fully tackle in this post) but suffice to say I did not expect to cry while watching a movie I believed to be primarily about a giant lizard. Or how hard it would be to try and read subtitles while you're trying to clean lights.

The last big summer 2024 adventure is quickly on the horizon, Jethro and I fly to Japan a week from today for my first trip off continent. I'm very excited, and also a little scared. I'm a worrier by nature so it's been a productive exercise in preventing worry by action rather than succumbing to procrastination, but also the letting go of things that just aren't that important. And I'm sure I'll find new things to worry about once I'm there.

ending 2024, rhythms and threads

On the online presence, on preserving the self

I've been scrolling back through my likes (I felt a stupid sort of trepidation once I hit almost 1k) and have been queuing them up and unliking them as I go; one of the reasons why I love tumblr and won't leave it in the digital scrapbook/commonplace book sense is that no matter how old I get, how I drift through the months and from job to job, no matter how much I am bored of my life or invigorated by some small new thing, there's still undercurrents that have been me, been Samantha, since I was a teen and are visible here. I still love cake the most, I still love pink roses, I'm an teaboo Anglophile forever, reading/book collecting/libraries are woven into my very essence, and I still latch onto a few subgroups/cultures every year and read about them and then move on (this year: I discovered there's a lot of British men who blog about the different pubs they visit, love that for them, and me).

This tumblr was created 16 years ago (2008 -- I was 21, and my LJ account is now 19 years old as of last month) and is the visible record of my online presence through my 20s: fandom, connections, events etc. My face is on here, snide confessions, inappropriate battles between other users, that one viral post I made about self-care -- anyway. I'm not leaving anytime soon but what does the internet feel like for almost 40-year-old me?

I feel in-between. There's middle-aged blog owners who've been typing away since Usenet was a thing; there's Gen Z who uhh...I don't know how they blog or if they want longform content of any kind. I feel like I don't fit anywhere digitally anymore.

There's Substack, which for weird reasons I refuse to go near (those reasons are that I am suspicious of anyone on there; it's like a NLOG version of influencing and I could be totally wrong but there's a vibe to it that is too commercialist, me-me-me my personal thoughts are better than the other persons...come on, there are only so many ways to teehee over pop culture or dissect girlhood or whatever).

But I did follow through and do what I've wanted to do for years (decades) and make an actual real grownup blog this year. In March! 10 months ago! There's like three whole entries because I can't figure out how to widen the width of the posts and I want to do that before I start writing "for real." Of course I should ignore that and keep on prattling to no one.

On waning, on growing, onto 2025

What has 2024 been? I feel myself age: my face is longer, my hands are older, cuts take ages to heal. We lost Gordon, my husband's soulmate in cat form, to cancer. I've started doing quarterly staycations -- first the Midwest and then New England. Next, the southwest. It's my way to not hate being where I live.

My goal for this year was to only read books I owned. Since I mostly read by listening to audiobooks (all borrowed through the library) that was a fail. My book goal for next year may be to read through everything in my childhood bookcase, from Mary Poppins to His Dark Materials to Ouran High School Host Club.

One major surprise this year was that I started bullet journaling again. Because I'm an idiot I never put years in the old ones (are years not aesthetic enough??) and I think they were from like...2017? to 2019? Maybe? I fell down a rabbit hole of a studytuber and then all the snark about her and was like, why am I not doing this when I have all the supplies; there are 20-year-olds taking time out of their lives to do this and I can too. It's part of my daily routine now and I crave it and even though I am literally writing down the most banal bits of my day.

What do I want out of the next year? More reading, a new fandom or some sort of pull towards something, to not be tired all the time. A house. A bigger apartment. To finally learn how to knit. To keep going and not become some stretched, grey and surface-level version of myself. I can't create more time.

sixtine bourlange-toussaint is a 27-year-old from a city in the grand-est region of france (schiltigheim? or illkirch-graffenstaden??), and is fluent in french and english, and knows basic german and alsatian. they were raised by their grandparents, as sixtine's mother - a high school student at the time - had died while giving birth, and their father - also a high school student at the time - didn't even know that they existed. her grandparents brought her up as a fairly happy child, and encouraged her love for music even when she was little by giving her piano lessons

she realized she was trans when she was (ironically enough) 16 years old. they didn't come out to their grandparents yet because they were afraid of how they might react. but when she went on hrt at 20, she finally decided to come out to them. her grandmother wasn't the most supportive person, but their grandfather was delighted to have a granddaughter. sixtine chose their own name, but their grandfather wanted to give them a second name as well - colette, after her mother

shortly after she started transitioning, sixtine started making music by herself as sweet sixteen. they made three releases - two singles and an album titled "t'as encore le ventre plus gros que les yeux", featuring 16 songs. eventually, she stopped releasing songs under the name, and went through a phase of creating multiple different artist profiles with different names and putting various songs on them. finally, they decided that they wanted to work with other people, and start a band

starting a band in schiltigheim proved to be very difficult. so, she moved to kehl (in germany! which is right over), where she met clemens eisner and linus krause, who became her roommates and bandmates. they formed interrogation! exclamation?, a band that sang exclusively in german, with linus as the guitarist (and lead singer), clemens as the drummer, and sixtine as the keyboardist. (she was also a vocalist half the time, of course.) they briefly dated linus, but the two did not stay together, as linus slowly revealed himself to be a chaser. she and clemens left together. shortly after this, clemens came out to sixtine as a trans man, admitting that he did not feel safe saying so in front of linus. even to this day, he has not gone on t or gotten any surgeries. he decided that he didn't want them, and he was perfectly fine the way he was

sixtine and clemens ended up in detroit, michigan, where they met kristian martinez garzon. when sixtine was 22 - in 2019 - she, kristian and clemens formed the clearance aisle. kristian came up with the name when xe and everyone else had gone to walmart (to show the europeans a walmart for the first time. i have had this experience also. walmart is. something) and there were all these signs up saying "clearance!!" "clearance!!!" "clearance!!!!"

despite being together for five years, the clearance aisle only released their first song, covet cloth, in 2024. they have a whole album planned that they would likely release later in the year

and now that the life story is over. some silly facts. [:

sixtine's favorite number is 16 (obviously) and it is referenced in a lot of her past work. the last song on her first album (t'as encore le ventre plus gros que les yeux) is quite literally called #16

she absolutely loves strawberries. they are her favorite fruit ever. she would write a whole song about them if she wanted to

the only social media they have is a tumblr they started in 2014 and haven't posted on since 2020. it was a sort of diary for them - they'd make a post every single day to summarize what they did, and then would occasionally reblog pretty pictures they liked. they did this consistently until about 2017, where they mostly stopped, and would only update once a month or so. between the years 2018 and 2019 she didn't post at all, but she returned in 2020 during the lockdown

then again, there's also the band's collective instagram account, but sixtine doesn't really post on it. most of the posts are made by kristian (because of course)

her favorite color is orange. her favorite drink is red bull (the dragonfruit flavor. not the piss original). she has a tattoo of a small piano that her grandfather got her when she was little on her left shoulder. they may or may not have undiagnosed adhd. who knows? psychologists are expensive in america! (i think.)
