Something I believe Lily forgets about the main five shows heralded for their representation (Gravity Falls, Legend of Korra, Steven Universe, She-Ra, Owl House) is that they came out right around the time online fan culture was starting to take off, so there was more discussion between shows as they aired. A lot of people first heard about the Korrasami kiss through the internet, and I even first learned about The Owl House thanks to all the buzz surrounding the Grom episode when it first aired. It doesn't mean shows like The Loud House or Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts were ignored for their representation at all.
There's also the fact that a good chunk of the representation in these shows are major characters, like Korra, Pearl, Catra, and Luz, as opposed to minor recurring characters like the ones on the shows Lily talks about.
But instead, Lily blames people who dare to like serialization in their shows for why her superior Canadian cartoons aren't more popular. It's also pretty hypocritical that she chastises people for not respecting older examples of representation when she trashed The Rocky Horror Picture show while ignoring the context it came out in.
She’s trying to make people feel somehow guilty for not knowing about these shows, when she herself didn’t even know about Lloyd in Space until somebody told her — I bet she doesn’t even know King of the Hill actually had a great episode about Dale’s dad coming out to his son that was even nominated for a GLAAD award, all the way back in 2002.
I don’t understand why she has to blame something for the lack of conversation around these shows, instead of just focusing her time and effort into actually helping people learn about these shows.
She could’ve made videos discussing each show and it’s content, but instead she made the single video where she spent a chunk of it ranting about SU and She-Ra for the hundredth time. She can’t even properly praise the shows she does like without bringing the ones she thinks unfairly overshadows them—effectively doing exactly that and overshadowing them in her own damn video.

It's Summer!
here's a collection of sentences because we are near the end!
---
“Uh, no,” Eddie says. “Though, okay… Maybe that, too. But… I was thinking, if it’s not too soon, maybe the four of us should… Find a place that fits all of us?”
Buck is about to get emotional again.
“Really?” He asks.
It feels like something huge honestly. Eddie asking to take the next step. Zero prompting from Buck. No self-doubt or hesitation in his eyes.
“Really,” Eddie says. “I think it would make us all happy.”
“I would really love that,” Buck says. “Like… That’s kind of the next best possible thing that could have happened today.”
Eddie smiles, cheeks a little rosy. “So… It’s been the perfect day, then?”
“Yeah,” Buck confirms. “It really has.”
vii.
On the day they move in late July, there is a huge, blowout fight about who gets which bedroom. One that annoys Eddie so much Buck thinks he might stroke out, honestly. It’s solved, in the end, by the matter of accessibility for Christopher. So Summer doesn’t get her way. She’s cranky and sour the rest of the day about the whole thing. Buck can’t even bring it to be really miffed about it, truth be told. All he sees is a girl who, just over a year ago, was too afraid to ask for a glass of juice or to say when she needed to use the washroom. Now, she’s comfortable enough to cause a row over bedroom locations. It seems like a win, even if it gives everyone a headache on an already stressful day. He takes the win in whatever form it comes. But he also doesn’t argue Christopher getting the sought-after bedroom.
It takes a few days for things to settle into normalcy. Which is fair enough. Eddie and Christopher have lived in the same house for the better part of a decade, and Chris has never been a big fan of change. Summer is hesitant to leave the only house that was ever home, even if she’s excited for a bigger, fuller one with Eddie and Christopher. So there are bound to be some bumps. But Buck is confident they’ll be old history before long.
And he’s right.
Two weeks after they move in, the kids wear them - Eddie - down into buying a pet turtle. With the express condition that Christopher be its primary caregiver.
“I’m serious, Chris,” Eddie warns on their way to the pet store. “I’m not doing the cleaning or feeding or anything else. And neither is Buck, got it? It’s your responsibility.”
“I’ve got it, Dad,” Chris sighs. “It’s my pet, I know.”
But of course, because it’s a reptile of any sort, Summer is obsessed with it.
“He’s so cute,” she squeals into the tank at the store. “I love him!”
“He’s a red eared slider,” the worker explains to her.
“I know!” Summer answers.
“Do you have a name for him?” The worker asks.
“Chris?” Eddie asks. “You had an idea, right?”
“I thought maybe after one of the ninja turtles,” Chris shrugs. “But I can’t tell which one, yet.”
“Which one is red?” Buck asks.
“Raphael,” Chris says.
“That’s a decent turtle name,” Eddie nods.
Summer wrinkles her nose. “I don’t know.”
“Summer,” Buck says patiently. “It’s Christopher’s turtle. He gets to name it, okay?”
“Okay,” she sighs.
“No, wait,” Chris says. “What would you name him, Summer?”
“Kipo!” Summer announces.
Ah. Like the cartoon Chris showed her recently. With the pink, post-apocalyptic girl.
“Alright,” Chris shrugs. “We can call him Kipo.”
“Really?” She beams.
“Yeah,” Chris nods. “But that means every once in a while you have to help me with turtle chores.”
“I will! I promise!”
“Kipo it is then,” Chris says.
And so his turtle is named after a pink cartoon mutant. Not entirely different than what he’d intended, Buck supposes.
▪️▪️▪️
The interaction sticks with Buck.
It’s a simple thing. A little thing. The name of a turtle.
He knocks on Christopher’s door later that evening. He’s alone. Looking into the tank at his new pet with curious, wondering eyes. Seeming somewhat younger, for just a flash, than he has lately.
“Can I come in?” Buck asks.
“Sure,” Chris says.
Buck walks in and sits on Christopher’s bed, a few feet away from him.
“Thanks for picking the name she liked,” Buck says. “You didn’t have to do that, you know?”
“I know,” Chris shrugs. “But I got the better room. And it made her happy. It’s just a turtle name.”

Lily: "Fandom has a problem with taking background/minor white characters with little personality or charisma and latching on to them, and thinking they have a personality when they have zero characterization or screen time, wishing they were the true main characters instead of the actual Non white protagonist!"
Also Lily: "Making hunter black would exaggerate his writing problems! That would be the third time a black character is side lined in the show!
*Shows a picture of Gus and Skara*
Girl, Skara is a MINOR CHARACTER, She was never portrayed to be a main character in the show at ALL, her personality isn't even greatly expanded on because she barely gets any screentime. Why would you want Skara of all characters to be a main character? What about her seems so *interesting* to you, Lily? It wouldn't happen to be because she's a black girl, right? And you definitely love black women, right? So much so it doesn't become fetishist and very uncomfortable for any black woman that you interact with, right?
reminder that when someone asked straight point what would LO think about hunter if he was black, her answer quite literally was "at least that would add a interesting element to him." there was no misrepresenting or misquoting or misunderstanding as she tries to claim. she quite literally said that hunter being black, even if he was written exactly the same as he is, would make him interesting. literally all she cares about Skara is that she's black and possibly an underage sapphic she can imagine with other underage sapphics. just look through her blog right now and you're not going to find even an attempt to think a personality for her. absolutely nothing of what fans do for other background minor characters that they happened to like. all you'll find are comments about how cute she is and how she would have been a better pair for Willow, with not even an attempt to justify why.
meanwhile, as said a million times already, LO actively ignores or berates the development of Luz, the actual afrolatina protagonist, because she much prefers to bash the white boy and the white people she assumes are the only ones who like him. when Luz, a black girl, shows to have actual depth, character development and an emotional arc, suddenly she's not worth talking about or appreciating at all. she keeps ignoring other properties with large BIPOC casts (Kipo, Amphibia) or other diverse cast for simply the fact that they aren't about underage lesbians. does any of this sounds like something coming from a person who cares about appreciating and uplifting POC, fictional or otherwise?

I keep thinking about TBB and how it ended. Or the whole season i should say, the ending was pretty good with a few flaws ( in my opinion ).
And you know, I'm not surprised, as much as i LOVE this show, I'm used to cartoons getting shit. Its been going on for far too long.
Its Disney AND Netflix. And here is a list of shows that were doing good, got told mid season its getting canceled, and a rushed ending.
Amphibia
The Owl House
She Ra and The Princesses Of Power ( 2018 )
Centaurworld*
My Little Pony G4* and G5
Steven Universe*
OK KO lets be heroes.*
Star Trek Prodigy*
Kipo and the age of the wonderbeasts.
The Mandalorian ( i know its not a cartoon but it has the same vibes as TBB ).
And probably many more. It sucks, so bad, for animation. And I'm saying this because i fully believe Disney or whoever was going to cancel TBB if it already isn't. They just didn't want to announce that.
Other notes:
*Centaurworld ; Was meant to be an ADULT cartoon and very much has left overs from that, however Netflix decided it was too MLP-esc so they made it for kids instead which ended up just being a bunch of fart and butt jokes. And then got canceled anyways so everything had to rush and wrap up in season 2. Which SUCKS because it is so beautiful when it can be and has beautiful music.
*MLP G4 is not Netflix nor Disney and while it did get multiple seasons and an ending, it had new writers during, i don't know, s6 or s7. And things slowly went backwards. And the end felt rushed imo. It wasn't a bad one but it didn't feel.. satisfying.
*Steven Universe ; i love Steven Universe, it was canceled because the creator got an Sapphic wedding AND kiss scene on screen, on a kids cartoon. But they compromised by after the finale they would get a spin off and a movie. The finale is good. Whats rushed here to me, was the spin off. And again, this is not Disney or Netflix, but Cartoon Network.
OK KO and Star Trek prodigy are also not Disney or Netflix ( which apparently Netflix is trying to save Star Trek Prodigy ) but also kicked the bucket.
All this to say ; there is a huge problem within the animation area and I'm tired of CEOs or whoever forcing creators and writers to cancel or shorten their stories.
The Bad Batch s3 is no better in my opinion. I loved a lot of scenes of it and I'm grateful for a lot of it and I'm not honestly sure if this is Disney or Jennifer or someone else but it really hurts.
Here is why it bothers me:
I'll just get this one out of the way first. Tech. Tech COULD have been sacrificed. He COULD have died. In a way that was actually meaningful. Omega got captured anyway, she was probably going to whether Tech went home with them or not. His death IS sad and i DO see them trying to honor it, i do. But its bad to me because it really does feel like "gotta kill the autistic person". Its really annoying when shows try to have an autistic character and then mistreat them ( She Ra 2018 as well but Entrapta didn't die but she does get mistreated a lot ). Its annoying and hurtful. Especially with the writers and such teasing his fans so strongly. There was no reason to. Its not a spoiler.
The TALKS in between that we missed. Tech talking to Phee about Crosshair. Crosshair learning about Tech's Death from Omega. Omega talking to Emerie about her brothers. Crosshair coming back with Omega, we don't even see them just silently watching him walk into the ship. Its just nothing. I'm sure i am forgetting some because it happened, SO much during this season.
What happened to Cody. Like its fine if he's being saved for another series but then perhaps say that.
Creators do not have to be extremely secretive about everything. Fans who don't want spoilers don't go looking for it. I'm not implying they need to spoil the ENTIRE plot, but saying Tech is dead-dead is not something to be secretive about, An hour long finale is not something to be secretive about, etc.
The other Clone X's, while they are very very cool and supposed to mirror CF99... they weren't overly needed honestly. It felt so rushed. Like I'm not saying they needed to be someome either, they don't need to. But i wasn't fearful or full of impact when i saw them my genuine reaction was "this is too much now". It was like if they DID decide to put Darth Vader in it at last second. Like i fully believe Omega was supposed to be home with Crosshair for a little longer and help Echo and Rex with the clones. And then these new CX clones were supposed to show up in s4 and be the ones to get her again.
The fans.. would have wanted.. season 4?...... i don't know why its so bad to want that. And honestly atp, i don't get why its so bad to have plot filler. Its BAD for series that got canceled or shortened, but its not bad for a series that you want more of, because then you get more time with them or more lore if you're lucky.
It occured to me there was not one flash back. Not one about the past. The most was Omega talking about how she watched CF99 be made and that it implied shes older ( and is ) than them. Could you imagine the emotional impact on us and for Omega, watching her, watch them grow up. I don't think Rebels or TCW really had flash backs either but they usually did it in other ways.
I'm not like.. a good writer, so maybe writers on here will disagree and thats okay, I'm open to that.
TLDR: I'm tired of Cartoons kicking the bucket too soon for far too long. I feel like The Bad Batch s3 also had this treatment and it isn't fair to the fans.

I cannot believe I have to say this, SO
To that very specific side of Steve legends fandom!
THE 👏 ELITES👏 ARE 👏NOT👏BLOOD👏RELATED 👏
NOR IS SHIPPING TWO ELITES TOGETHER INCEST.
They are written to be a found family! They have that bound because of the time they spent together, both at the academy and training-
It is implied they met through the elite training course and have history together
“But Beef Called Colle and Sharp his family!” AS a term of endearment, because they were about to go into battle? With the possibility of not making it out the other side!
Other medias have done this with their found family tropes, examples like Kipo and the age of the wonder beasts, the party from the DND movie, etc etc etc. it’s a common thing amongst the found family trope
And ik they’re probably gonna come get and say ‘where’s your proof that says they’re just friends?’
Oh I got my proof!
Here’s almost every single screenshot of the characters referring to one another as friends, as well as outside characters referring to them as a a friend group
Not including all the times Colle himself refered to Beef or sharp as his friends!
I’ve even added Goggles too since he’s canonly Colles best friend-!
It’s definitely not EVERYTIME they called one another friend or friends, but it’s enough proof
“But sometimes family call one another friends!” No they don’t. When has that ever happened? Never.
If they where actually related they would refer to one another as ‘brother’
Please, Stop throwing around the word incest when people say they ship characters together like Beef and Colle, or a Colle and Sharp- or sharp and beef, etc etc etc.
You can have your own personal headcanons when it comes to character dynamics. But please for the love of god stop calling it incest, and stop harassing people who do ship two elites together
Especially the younger fans. That’s not cool. You’re just an ass.
TLDR- Shipping two elites together is not incest, they are written to be a found family. Stop making up sh*t to make your headcanons ‘canon’ to shame other people in this fandom
#seriously what are they on#The Elites are a found family#stop making it weird#please for the love of god#you’re watering down the actual meaning of the word#did you even watch the series?#sorry this isn’t normally what I post#this just pissed me off sm#steve legends#favermysaber

Adam Gets World's No.1 Worst Peepaw Shirt (2024)
-------
[Note: Please Click On The Drawing To Make It Bigger In Order To Read The Purple Words Better On Peepaw Adam's Shirt, and the speech bubbles from those who are speaking.
and incase it might still be a bit hard to read what Peepaw-Adam is saying here is what he is saying in the drawing: "What does this shirt say..? I can't read it Upside-Down. it was a Gift from a "Earth Angel Princess" who calls herself "The Eveningstar Princess" Whatever that means. but she is my Alternate Counterpart's Descendant-Granddaughter, who is also a Descendant of both Cain & Seth, as well as King David and King Solomon as well as King Solomon's Son, Rehoboam. man, sucks to be her, how unlucky is she to be the descendant of King Solomon! but at least she can be thankful to be My descendant! well, that OTHER me's own descendant anyway. man, the words on this shirt is VERY long, it must talk about how AWESOME I am."....despite what he might think, it doesn't talk about how Awesome he is. XD lol ]
Credit for Hazbin Hotel goes to Vivienne "Vivziepop" Medrano & SpindleHorse
Credit for Transformers goes to Hasbro & TakaraTomy
Credit for Transformers: Prime Series goes to Jeff Kline, Alex Kurtzman, Duane Capizzi & Roberto Orci
Credit Transformers Animated Series goes to Sam Register & Matt Youngberg
Credit for Steven Universe Series goes to Rebecca Sugar
Credit for Cuphead goes to Studio-MDHR
Credit for Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt goes to Gainax
Credit for Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts goes to Radford Sechrist & Bill Wolkoff
----------
I regret nothing...
and I think Ficto-Peepaw Adam deserves that shirt.
Cuphead is trying not to laugh, and Steven knows how bad it will be if Adam finds out what that shirt says, possibly thanks to Garnet's future vision.
also, I like idea of Knockout being Steven's Cybertronian Guardian and Knockout could of started out as Steven's Guardian when Steven was just a baby, and it being Rose who was the first out of the Crystal Gems and Other Humans besides Greg in Beach City that saw the good in Knockout, and Garnet was the second to see the good in him and Amethyst was the third but it took Pearl a lot longer to fully trust Knockout.
also Kipo in this, is a future version who still has part of her new hair style from the epilogue but this version of Kipo grew her hair longer and might be around her mid-20s and is married to a unknown spouse.
Sari in this drawing is 23 years old but close to becoming 24 years.
or she could already be 24 years old.
and yes, I am the "Eveningstar Princess" and "Earth Angel Princess" who gave that Adam the shirt. XD
I am Cain & Seth's Weird Descendant Granddaughter, Long Live The Divine Feminine Revolution and for it's Healing and Recovery!
we should put a protective barrier around the Earth to stop the Negative and Toxic energy from the Toxic-Masculine energy through, and only allow the positive Masculine energy through.
it might be able to help both Omni-Mom and the Divine Feminine heal even more if all Earth Angels worked together to form a protective barrier so that the Feminine part of the Earth can heal properly...and the whole two certain Masculine sides crossing the line with their fight is not helping in the recovery process.
Lucifer and Samael still ain't the boss of me, no matter which one of them is Cain's Dad...
also even if not everyone has to agree to it but respect my new view of belief...
but I'm still going to believe in both God/Heavenly-Father & Goddess/Earthly-Mother...
and I rather not have some Toxic-Religious jerk from before, make me feel really bad and cry and throw those misused words they threw me before...I'm still gonna hope I don't run into that Toxic-Religious Jerk again...that still might count as religious trauma, which could be second to any past life Toxic-Religious Trauma...
I guess it was a little surprised that fans were right about that Adam from Hazbin Hotel, being THE Adam...which means he is like a Alternate Counterpart of the one that was from here...
which still makes that Adam from Hazbin Hotel, "The First Peepaw"
don't know if Cain will appear in that series or what he would be like.
but no matter the Multiverse, he is still Grunkle-Grandpa, along with Seth being Grunkle-Grandpa...at least the descendants they had married each other many generations later...is that correct...?
they don't need to be marrying too close to the tree...
the descendants of the early generations that were descended from Seth and Cain, would have to have different DNA from another Paternal and Maternal source and they would have to still marry into different bloodlines to different humans in order for the descendants of both Seth and Cain back then, were to marry each other...because it would mean they would be hardly be closely related so there will be no possible problems with the future offspring.
which I'm glad to be a "Purple Blood" rather than a "Blue Blood", yeah being a "Blue Blood" is like another word for Royalty but given that is true, but I'm glad that some of my Ancestors are both Royal and Non-Royals, and I don't want to be called a blue blood, but instead a purple blood. :)
also even if ya can look to the situation with Cain and who his bio-dad is, either it be Samael or Lucifer, and it being like the same situation in a Hazbin Hotel AU's Fanon Timeline....with Adam being the Step-Dad of Cain...
it would still make for a good Jerry Springer comedy, but instead of Jerry, it's some guy named Perry who has to talk to both Eve and the possible fathers of Cain, and even have the Step-Dad Adam there as well...
I wouldn't be surprised if Adam and Eve from Hazbin Hotel are divorced, like for all we know, Eve could of left him like around early 202X.
Adam could act like it never happen and could be in denial that both of his two ex-wives Lilith and Eve left him...
which would serve that Peepaw Adam right, that's what you get for being a selfish, egoistical, toxic-masculine jerk.
I think it could be interesting if it turn out Cain and Charlie were half-siblings, which would mean that Lucifer from that series was with Eve first before he and Lilith fell in love...
like Eve and Lucifer had to have a mutual break-up, because they knew they couldn't truly be together because one of the reasons being Adam...and at some point Lucifer meets Lilith, falls in love again, but for all we know Lucifer could still have feelings for Eve as well.
and yeah, like the shirt that Adam is wearing points out...
Abel should not be around Fluffy-Babies, and if ever tried that "offering" stuff with my first or second cats (my first cat is no longer with us and had passed away a few years ago, and I was lucky to get my second cat when they were still a little kitten.) I would go Feral Earth Angel on him.
and like I said before, if those at the vet did anything wrong with my second cat or like if they weren't taken there on time...
if I had the power to, I would start Omnigeddon...
like in theory it is like Armageddon but FAR and way worse...
lucky it might not be thing...but yeah the thoughts of wanting to start Omnigeddon did come to my mind if anything bad happen to my second cat when they had to go to the vet and they had to have surgery.
also there could be better ways to spiritually offer food even if it is meat to like both the Heavenly-Father & Earthly-Mother...
like having to cook it, and serve it with fruits and vegetables and eating it with friends and family...
and also spiritually sharing it with both the Heavenly-Father and Earthly-Mother...
and yeah, I'm still going to view both Abel and Cain being in the wrong, but Cain only got far worse because of bad parenting and his depression getting far worse and reaching a very dangerous breaking point...
and if anyone needs to be redeem at Charlie's Hotel, it's both Cain and Abel.
oh, and yes Steven is holding a cellphone to talk to Knockout and one could view that Steven is whispering so Adam doesn't hear him.
anyway hope some like this Crossover Fanart.
and once again, when it comes to giving Ficto-Peepaw Adam that shirt, I still regret nothing. XD

A list of things that inspire me:
— The Land of Stories by Chris Colfer. An extremely influential book series to me, as it was what got me into reading and eventually writing. It also sparked my fascination with fairy tales and fantasy.
— The Magic Misfits by Neil Patrick Harris. I’ve only read the first two books, but they mean a lot to me. Another one of those things that i read when i was younger and has since left a large mark on me. Probably sparked some of my love for found family lol. And queer representation.
— Nightmares by Jason Segel and Kirsten Miller. Les me into some love of all things spooky and horrifying.
— Poetry.
— The Girl with The Ghost Machine by Lauren DeStefano. Oh my gods the *angst* in this book. I found it in the library one day and decided to give it a read. It permanently changed me.
— the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen. Understandable due to my fairy tale passion.
— folklore
— Music
— Nature
— You guys 💙
— The Trifecta (Gravity Falls, The Owl House and Amphibia)
— Floriography
— The Miraculous Story of Edward Tulane by Kate Dicamello. Read this in grade two for our class’s novel study, and uh… You know, it’s okay for a seven year old to cry in the middle of reading a book with their class. That was something i did. I’m fine (genuine)
— The Night Gardener by Johnathan Auxier. Read it for a novel study also. I had actually read it before, though (only by a few weeks) and had a lovely interaction with my teacher when i saw it on the wall and went “oh my gosh, The Night Gardener? I read that book! It was great!” And she had a moment of. Shock. Anyway it was fine i just couldn’t make predictions.
— fan fiction
— fan art
— Percy Jackson
— Kipo and The Age of Wonderbeasts
— Avatar the Last Airbender
— a Series of Unfortunate Events
— and certainly more…

My Adventures With Superman Season One Spoiler-Filled Review [Part 1]
My Adventures with Superman is animated superhero series which mixes the romantic comedy, action-adventure, and sci-fi genres. It's the latest adaptation of Superman, a DC Comics character. DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Animation produce the series. Studio Mir was contracted for animation services. Studio Mir, a South Korean animation studio, is known for its work on The Legend of Korra, Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts, Dota: Dragon's Blood, and Harley Quinn season 3. Jake Wyatt, Brendan Clougher, and Josie Campbell developed the series, with Campbell as producer. Wyatt and Clougher are executive producers along with Michael Ouweleen and Sam Register. This piece was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, My Adventures with Superman being reviewed here wouldn't exist.
Reprinted from Pop Culture Maniacs and Wayback Machine. This was the forty-ninth article I wrote for Pop Culture Maniacs. This post was originally published on September 21, 2023.
The first episode begins with a bang. As a little kid, Clark Kent (voiced by Jack Quaid) discovers he has superpowers. In the present, he tries to be "normal." He and his his friend Jimmy Olsen (voiced by Ishmel Sahid) go to The Daily Planet. Along the way, he meets Lois Lane (voiced by Alice Lee) and develops a crush on her. As it turns out, Lois is also applying to be an intern. All three get the job. Their boss, Perry White (voiced by Darrell Brown) shoots down Lois' ideas for stories. Lois ignores this. She meets her "source," a newspaper girl named Flip Johnson (voiced by Azuri Hardy-Jones). The reality is more terrifying: Livewire activates robots which Clark barely defeats. He only survives due to his powers and Lois's quick thinking.
At the end of the episode, Lois declares she wants an exclusive interview with Superman, where she will expose all his secrets, terrifying him. That's only the first episode! In later episodes, Clark tries to find out more about his past. He talks to Jor-El (voiced by Jason Marnocha), who speaks Kryptonese. Despite the fact he is Superman, he works with Lois and Jimmy on an investigation into Superman. He even has a magical transformation sequence. Some said it was inspired by magical transformations in Sailor Moon. Other fans argued it resembled Pretty Cure.
Storyboarder Diana Huh confirmed that Superman's transformation sequence was based on the part of Kaido Minami's transformation into Cure Mermaid in Go! Princess Pretty Cure, "specifically the part in her transformation when her back ribbons and hair were formed." She noted that she watched it on "repeat for inspiration." As for Clark, he grows closer to Lois. In fact, she even gives Superman his name. Clark's adopted mother puts together his superhero costume. All the while, those who call themselves "good guys" torture people.
This focus on identity is not unique to My Adventures with Superman nor is the relationship between Lois and Clark. The latter is key in many Superman series, including Justice League Unlimited. In that series, their romance is even known by other superheroes. They never kiss in that series, from what I remember, but the closeness between them is apparent. Another difference is that Jimmy is a Black man and Lois is a Korean woman. She also calls Clark by the nickname "Smallville."
Clark struggles with his powers. In other depictions he is older and fully aware of his superpowers. In this series, his identity struggle is complicated when Lois calls Superman a liar. It weakens Clark's resolve to tell her the truth about himself. Clark continually tries to cover his tracks that he is Superman, even ripping out a key piece from the tabloids. After she tells him that she hates being lied too, he chickens out, again, in telling her the truth. Their relationship development is better paced than dragging it out across the season. It gives them more time together.
The push-and-pull between Lois wanting to find out about Superman, and Clark's determination to ensure that Lois doesn't realize the truth defines the early part of the first season. Both have identity crises. In fact, in the second episode, he is traumatized by his adopted parents almost being killed when he visits a spaceship which is supposed to show his origins. They face challenges along the way. They fear that The Daily Planet's star reporting team (Steve Lombard, Cat Grant, and Ronnie Troupe) will scoop their story. These characters are voiced by Vincent Tong, Melanie Minichino, and Kenna Ramsey respectfully. Even so, Lois is persistent. She swipes the keycard of the warden (also voiced by Minichino), allowing them to see a prison cell.
At first it seems that the fifth episode might not be the big confrontation between Lois and Clark. He shows Lois his "murder board"/investigation board, and plans to say he likes Lois. She even goes to the extreme and chains herself to him, but he breaks free. This is dashed quickly. Later, she falls off a building to see if he will catch her! While this generated some online discourse about how she was "wrong" and Clark was "right," the truth is simple. Clark was lying to her and her reasoning makes sense. At the same time, Clark understandably held back, as he was afraid.
Social media has a key role in the series. Jimmy has a secret YouTube channel named Flamebird which covers conspiracies in Metropolis and beyond. This comes to a fore in the fifth episode: Jimmy gets a response video for every single video he has posted. Some internet troll attacks him, and it turns out that star reporter Steve is behind it all! This focus also gives Jimmy character depth, as a sort of social media influencer, and makes you sympathize with him when Lois and Clark leave him behind.
There an interesting secondary plot in My Adventures with Superman. Mist/Kyle (voiced by Lucas Grabeel) and Rough House/Albert (voiced by Vincent Tong) break out Mist's sister, Siobhan/Silver Banashee (voiced by Catherine Taber), the leader of Intergang. They accomplish this thanks to weapons Livewire (voiced by Zehra Fazal) and are able to escape. Using these weapons, they rob Metropolitan City Bank. Superman saves them all when one of their machines goes haywire. This is interlinked with the tech plan of Ivo (voiced by Jake Green), the founder of Amazo Tech. He creates a super suit named Parasite and markets it as something which turns people into their own personal Superman. Of course, this doesn't work, since the prototype is unstable.
youtube
Superman takes extreme risks to protect those he cares about and support justice. Often, he saves people across Metropolis. He fights villains like Heat Wave (voiced by Laila Berzins) and supposed "good guys" like Agent Wilson (voiced by Chris Parnell). The latter only stops at the urging of Amanda Waller (voiced by Debra Wilson). The General (voiced by Joel De La Fuente) wants Agent Slade Wilson / Deathstroke (voiced by Chris Parnell) to eliminate Superman once and for all.
While writing this review, I can't avoid comparisons between My Adventures with Superman and previous series, like Justice League and Justice League Unlimited. The latter's end marked the end of the DC Animated Universe (DCAU). Some fans call DCAU the Timmverse, after animator and director Bruce Timm. It comprised eight animated series, four feature films, four short films, and two digital series between 1992 and 2006. While I haven't watched all the series within DCAU, I see some similarities, especially with the two Justice League series, when it comes to Amanda Waller. She's a Black woman who's continually skeptical of superheroes. She even partners with Lex Luther to fund a research center supporting a superhero-hating metahumans.
In this series, Waller gives Task Force X one mission: to take down Superman. This differs from the two Justice League series, where her goal is broader. She intends to ensure that Earth can defend itself if the superheroes go "bad." Waller, in this series, along with the General and Agent Wilson, believe that Superman will bring the end of the world. They remember how someone like him killed many during an event they call "Zero Day." This military slang means a day in which a Basic Combat Training company "picks up Soldiers." I think The General meant it to be equivalent to a D-Day or "Invasion Day." The General is misguided. Superman is not like the marauding Supermen he (and Lois) sees on a record from the League of Lois Lanes.
In another major difference, My Adventures with Superman depicts Cadmus more positively. Lois and Clark go through the forest to save Jimmy. He was kidnapped by Monsieur Mallah. The latter is an intelligent ape, voiced by Andre Sogliuzzo. He is working with Brain (voiced by Jesse Inocalla). Like the two aforementioned Justice League series, Cadmus is a secret government project. In this series, it was begun 20 years before. It is where Mallah and Brain fell in love. However, Task Force X came to eliminate them. The Task Force believed that no one survived the unstable Black hole.
The reality, obviously, is very different. Mallah and Brain are almost trapped. A nearby minefield, drones, and a protective bubble stop anyone from leaving, or reaching, Cadmus. Task Force X wanted to ensure that no one could discover Cadmus. At one point, Lois and Clark are chased by robots. They are only saved when mutants, created by Mallah, attack. Thanks to Clark's actions, the black hole maintains its power and a containment field stabilizes it.
In a heart-felt scene, Mallah and Brain step through the wormhole, wanting to reach a world where they can live freely. The Brain warns them that once the person who is trying to get Superman (The General) sees him as a threat, they will never stop. This is clear from a final scene, in that episode. The General asks Ivo to help him figure out where the technology is, and to help him take down Superman. The Brain nor Mallah is evil. The former is exclusive to the continuity of this series and is an adaptation of a character which first appeared in Volume 1 of the comic book Doom Patrol.
The sixth episode of My Adventures with Superman is one of the strongest not only because of the action-packed sequences or the romance between Lois and Clark, with Clark saving Lois from dying. It shines because Clark tells Lois the truth. He admits to her (and Jimmy) that he didn't want to reveal his true nature due to a fear that Jimmy and Lois would see him as an "alien" and treat him differently. Instead, he wanted to be "normal." Jimmy, who already knew Clark was Superman, reassures him they are friends because of who he is. Lois says they want to be open with him. In the next episode, he declares there will be no more secrets, so he brings them to a spaceship, the same one which brought him to Earth, which surprises Lois and Jimmy.
By the seventh episode, it seems that the romance of Lois and Clark, is moving forward. Both lose their minds over a date, having charts, maps, and other ways to ensure it goes perfectly. These plans never come to pass. A so-called international "peacekeeper," Mxyzptlk (voiced by David Errigo Jr.), asks for Clark's help and declares that Clark is a Superman is in every universe. Meanwhile, the aptly named League of Lois Lanes, peacekeepers tasked with saving the Multiverse, come to save Lois. They declare that Clark is in danger, and Jimmy comes along. In the process, Lois and Jimmy become skeptical of the League. Clark realizes that Mxyzptlk lied to him and only wants chaos. Clark tries to do the right thing and stop Mxyzptlk from stealing.
The episode focuses on what Lois sees on a computer screen: a restricted file about Superman only accessible at League headquarters. Not only is this suspicious, but the centrality of a classified record drew me into the story. I say this is a person who indexes such records for my day job and someone who has written about archives and archivists in popular culture for many years. I liked how Lois even works with Mxyzptlk to get to the League headquarters, despite being wary of him. While there, she accesses a mainframe and gets the restricted record. Of course, her temporary ally-of-sorts is only there for his own benefit. He gets what he wants, allowing him to villainous "again." On the whole, the episode is so absurd, it's a bit funny.
The League sees Superman as evil, shooting him with guns filled with kryptonite. In some ways, the episode ends well. Lois, Jimmy, and Clark work together to take down Mxyzptlk. However, he later escapes prison. He sees Lois looking at the file which has the "truth" about Superman. He soon leaves, declaring it will be "more fun" to watch her figure it out. Lois doesn't consider possible manipulation of the record or that it only shows one "truth."
youtube
The eighth episode goes a different direction. It begins with Ivo collecting former villains and saying they need to fulfill their "debt" to society. Lois and Clark both face villains of sorts. Lois meets a reporter she idolizes, named Vicki Vale (voiced by Andromeda Dunker). She soon sours on Vale. It is revealed that Vale has an anti-Superman bias. Clark becomes obsessed with finding The General, thanks to his new power of super hearing. He ignores the pleas from Lois and Jimmy, going off on his own to face "the evil." In a local park, he takes a beating. He is kidnapped and The General calls him the "end of the world." Due to the splintering of the typical friend squad (Lois, Jimmy, and Clark), the ending sequence is different. It features the cityscape and none of the characters.
In the ninth episode, everything goes off the rails. Lois and Jimmy enlist the help of the Newskid Legion to find Superman. In actuality, he is in custody of The General. Falsely, The General believes that Superman is the enemy. He tortures him with electricity and declares that he won't let any more of "his kind" invade Earth. While Superman tells him what he knows, this isn't the "right answer." There is a powerful scene in this episode in which Clark sees what happened on Zero Day, 22 years before, as The General terms it. Many of Superman's kind come through, attacking people on Earth, until a light shines and the attack ends. Due to this incident, it makes sense he, and Waller, created Task Force X, and used the tech left behind to create new U.S. government weapons.
Superman empathizes. He realizes that not all Supermans are good, and asks why Supermen would do this. His responses takes The General back and makes him realize that he is making the wrong call. He begins to ask if Task Force X is wrong. Arrogantly, Waller shows her commitment to the task force: she claims that it is never wrong. As The General even admits, Superman was too young to be part of Zero Day and implies he is innocent. To make matters worse, Waller deactivates a camera, encouraging the villains to get out of their cells, including Ivo, who wants to "finish off" Superman, in revenge for what happened in the past.
He somehow escapes in a weakened state. He makes his way back to Lois and Jimmy. Thanks to assistance from his two friends, he defeats the Ivo Kaiju monster, which is attacking Metropolis. They call on everyone in town to turn off their power so that Ivo cannot suck in any more electricity. As a result, Superman is victorious. Jimmy lets Lois and Clark have time alone, together. Clark proceeds to carry Lois into the sky and kiss her. The General stands against Waller. She relieves him of his duties. Waller becomes head of Task Force X. The General gets a new mission: to track down and terminate Superman.
The season one finale of My Adventures with Superman goes further than showing Superman as the immigrant, "the adoptee living in a world that says being different is bad." He embraces his differences every day, with his weirdness and strangeness as his strength, as Campbell put it. Everything comes full circle. Clark becomes a full-time reporter with Lois and Jimmy. He dreams about being an evil Superman and learns something about The General: he is Sam Lane, Lois' dad! While Clark is, understandably, nervous about telling Lois this reality, Jimmy pushes him to do the right thing, causing Lois to come to his aid.
This all happens during Thanksgiving. There's family drama between The General and Lois. Clark's adoptive parents are also there. This all falls to the wayside when kryptonite inside the record weakens Clark. Although none of them are entirely sure what kryptonite is, Jimmy rightly realizes that the rock is causing the problem and puts it back. The entire scene echoes part of the She-Ra and the Princesses of Power series finale. Clark risks his life to ensure that the portal can be closed. He puts the kryptonite on the ship core, causing it to explode, and Jor-El saves him. Lois also saves his life, after he ensured that she (and everyone on Earth) wouldn't die. She stands in front of her dad, stopping him from killing Clark.
While The General listens and follows the pleas of Lois, he does not stay for Thanksgiving. It is only Lois, Jimmy, Clark, and his adoptive parents. In a funny scene, Jimmy announces that he sold Flamebird to the Daily Planet for $5.6 million and is "super rich now," surprising them all. The series ends with one final scene:, a kryptonian warrior declares they have found a new planet (presumably Earth). One commander tells him that it doesn't matter whether they destroy the ships and close the portals, saying they will kneel ultimately. That sets the stage for a season 2, which Campbell confirmed.
My Adventures with Superman somehow survived corporate fuckery. It had an uncertain future through various corporate mergers, the pandemic, and a thin budget. But, the passion of the writers and crew showed through, as Campbell noted. Such a message can't be more apt, considering the continued twin strikes by writers and actors, regardless of efforts by some to break the strike and fill their fat pockets with wads of cash. Previously, Drew Barrymore withdrew her plan to restart her show after intense criticism. Bill Maher sneered at the strike by writers. Thanks to backlash, he decided to put his show on pause. He has made Islamophobic and anti-Chinese statements, supports NSA surveillance, dislikes critical race theory, and opposed accepting Syrian refugees into the U.S., in the past.
A second season will include more moments between Clark and Lois, shipped by fans as Clois, generating fanart and fanfics. In fact, many of the over 130 stories on AO3 focus on this ship. In the words of Campbell, the second season will "blow people's minds." It will consist of 10 episodes, like Season 1. It is likely that the Kryptonian warriors will attack Earth. Spider-Man, Lux Luthor, and Lana Lang might appear. Hopefully, a second season has more outward LGBTQ+ representation in the main case. In this season, there is only, directly, a lesbian couple helped by Superman (he returns their child) and a gay couple (Mallah and Brain).
Fans who enjoy Clois are undoubtedly looking forward to another season. As for others, they may believe that the second season will reveal the truth behind Clark's birth father or infuse strong sci-fi elements "with heart," and make viewers love Superman all over again. Whether viewers see Lois as adorable, enjoy the fluid animation, humor and character designs; see Superman for gays and girls, or compare Lois with Luz, there are many reasons to enjoy this series, especially for those who like shonen action or shojo romance. Furthermore, it is relatable that Superman has been training, but doesn't have hold of his powers.
youtube
My Adventures with Superman is very animesque, from opening and closing credits which resemble anime series in more ways than one. Clark's voice actor, Jack Quaid, described it as "some anime influence...that is just so fun." Along with the aforementioned magical transformation of Superman, some said there was a reference to Ouran High School Host Club opening sequence ("Kiss Kiss Fall In Love") in the title of the seventh episode: "Kiss Kiss Fall In Portal."
As part of a thread on X/Twitter, producer Josie Campbell confirmed this. She noted other influences on the series from Pokemon's Team Rocket, the anime Gurren Lagann, and many other media. While Sailor Moon likely didn't influence the series, the fact that a Pretty Cure transformation influenced Superman's transformation has caused interesting results. For instance, some social media users called on people to watch series within the ongoing anime franchise.
In a strange coincidence, this series is airing at a time that a character, Sora Harewata-ru, in Soaring Sky! Pretty Cure, transforms into Cure Sky in a manner which resembles Superman's transformation. Cure Mermaid's transformation likely inspired both. The My Adventures with Superman ending sequence is meant to resemble "old anime EDs with the softer palette and slow pan while time passes." In Crunchyroll News, Briana Lawrence wrote an article about the similarities between Usagi Tsukino in Sailor Moon and Clark. Others pointed to Dragon Ball and Kill la Kill references, and anime tropes.
The anime influence isn't the only factor influencing My Adventures with Superman. While fans have pointed out that some of the Crew-Ra, the name for the crew of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, worked on the series, this was more limited in reality. Campbell, a co-producer, was a story writer and staff writer on She-Ra. Writer and co-executive producer of one episode, Brendan Cougar, was a storyboarder on She-Ra. He also storyboarded on Young Justice and on The Legend of Korra. Storyboarders Jasmine Goggins, Karen Guo, Diana Huh, and Jessica Zammit all worked on She-Ra.
More of an influence on this series could be, in some manner, Harley Quinn. 17 crew members of this series worked on that series, including animator Yew Yung, writer's assistant Sari Cooper, production executive Audrey Diehl, and executive in charge of production Jay Bastian. In addition, nine crew members did work on Young Justice, including prop designer Austin Reinkens and storyboarder Chris Palmer. Another eight worked on DC Super Hero Girls. The latter included effects animator Jason Plapp and storyboarder Michael Nanna. Other crew members worked on Dogs in Space, The Casagrandes, Glitch Techs, Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts, and the Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen Part 1 film.
The co-executive producer for My Adventures with Superman, Jake Wyatt, was a background designer for Steven Universe. Art director Jane Bak was a background designer on the same series. Bak did the same on Steven Universe Future and Adventure Time: Distant Lands. Animator Edward Artinian worked on Steven Universe too. Online listings show that some crew members were part of the crew of Pantheon and Final Space. Series composer worked on Nomad for Nowhere. Others contributed their time and labor to series ranging from Chicago Party Aunt to Invincible, Unicorn: Warriors Eternal to High Guardian Spice. The title sequence animator, Yves Bigerel, better known as Balak, is the director and writer of Peepoodo & The Super Fuck Friends.

Kirby Fan Cast With Reasoning (Kirby and Friends Edition)
Kirby: Makiko Ohmoto, she's voiced Kirby since Crystal Shards back in 1999 and Kirby doesn't need to actually speak words so there'd be no need to dub over his lines.
King Dedede: Ted Lewis, he voiced Dedede in the Kirby anime's English dub and is responsible for a multitude of memes. Alternatively, Juno Songs does a great Ted Lewis impression in their Dedede with Lyrics videos
Meta Knight: Eric Stuart, he voiced Meta Knight in the Kirby anime's English dub and now I cannot unhear the Spanish accent he gave Meta Knight. Alternatively, Juno Songs does a great Eric Stuart impression in their Meta Knight with Lyrics videos.
Bandana Waddle Dee: This is the stickler... I'm honestly not sure who I'd want to voice him.
Adeline: Karen Fukuhara, she could probably pull off the right amount of spunk for Adeline (she voices Glimmer in the 2018 She-Ra reboot and the titular character in Kipo and the Age of the Wonderbeasts fyi).
Ribbon: Cassandra Lee Morris, cause I like Cassandra Lee Morris and had to stick her in somewhere.
Gooey: Seth Rogen, I know that a lot of people don't like him but he already voiced one stupid blue blob, lets have him voice a second one.
The Animal Friends: If they don't speak, Dee Bradley Baker. If they do speak... I'll decide later.
Prince Fluff: SungWon Cho (possibly better known as ProZD) doing his Deep Authoritative Voice because I think it would be funny contrast.
Daroach: Xander Mobus, whatever voice is needed for this role, I'm sure he can bring it.
Elline: Lisa Reimold, she voices Framme in FE Engage.
Elfilin: Toxic Pea, a Kirby YouTuber who also runs a currently on hiatus Forgotten Land tips channel as Elfilin where they do a very good voice for the character that is stuck in my mind. If it has to be a professional VA, Anthony Del Rio.

Rules: List 10 of your comfort shows, then tag 10 people
Tagged by @katiekeysburg about a month ago. This took me forever, sorry!
Tagging some mutuals from my notes: @minutia-r @sorry-bonebag @re-bee-key @theendofcake @beccaelizabeth315 @anotherlovr @lotesseflower @morathicain @firlalaith @lena221bee
Interpreting this as shows I watch when I want to feel happy and warm and cared for. I don't often rewatch shows, so some of these are ongoing and others are just ones that made me feel good when I did watch them.
Apologies to all the other feel good shows I've had along the way thst didn'tmake the cut. :-)
What's My Line: A game show from the 50s/60s where the panel guesses people's occupations, and also who the celebrity guest is (they're blindfolded for that one). If you want to watch light banter, low-stakes games (extra points are frequently handed out), and hear about jobs you didn't even know existed, this is perfect. Available on YouTube for free, too!
Taskmaster: Another low-stakes game show, this time with celebrities having to perform absolutely ridiculous tasks. This frequently involves not so much thinking outside of the box as thinking outside of the planet. Also, the two hosts have an amusingly dom/sub thing going on.
Queer Eye: Five gay people come to a person, or sometimes a group of people, to fix up their appearance, home, and personal lives. The results can be quibbled with sometimes, but for the most part, this is like a warm hug.
Ghosts: A young couple move into a house that turns out to be haunted. Since they're now so deep in debt that they can't move, they have to make friends with the ghosts. Exists in two versions, UK and US. The UK fans will swear up and down that theirs is the only good version, but the truth is that both are good, and as a comfort show specifically, the US version may be more effective, since it's softer and cuddlier.
Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts: In the future, humans live underground, mutated animals ("mutes") roam the earth, and everyone is at each other's throat. Until a girl named Kipo accidentally ends up on the surface and decides to make friends with all the animals, which she turns out to be surprisingly good at. Also, there's lots of singing.
Press Gang: Childhood favourite show that still holds up, about a group of teenagers making a newspaper together. Good drama, good humour, and also, the editor is a smart, ruthless girl named Lynda, who has lots of Belligerent Sexual Tension with Spike, one of the reporters and resident rebel, in a classic 80s/90s romantic trope. In case that's your kind of thing. :-)
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power: Girl who was stolen by the Evil Horde as a child discovers that she's actually the destined hero of the Princess Alliance, their enemies. Sweet story, very queer, and with surprisingly nuanced villains. Doesn't quite measure up to Kipo in my book (I know most people disagree), but almost.
Julie and the Phantoms: Musically gifted teenager discovers that the ghosts of a dead rock band "lives" in her garage. From the creator of High School Musical, but so much better. Sadly cancelled after only one season (very unfortunate timing with covid).
And since I've been watching all these Asian QLs lately, naturally I need to add the softest of those:
She Makes My Heart Flutter: Short and sweet about a lesbian bar owner who gets her routine changed when her niece comes to work for her. Only takes a little bit more than an hour to watch, and it's lovely the whole time.
Old Fashion Cupcake: Office romance about a 39-year-old manager whose midlife crisis is interrupted with the help of the 29-year-old working for him, who dares him to try new things and experience life like a young girl would. Lots of tasty food in addition to the romance.

I think one of the things that disturbs me most about Spop fandom is the desire / need some people have to see characters punished? I don’t know if this is a matter of something missing vs. what we got in the show vs. expectations for fiction / the way stories usually go or of this is some kind of more disturbing pent-up projection issue that a lot of people have. I don’t know... it seems like we’re bred on media that has the whole “bad guy characters must be punished! Often with death!” Not even given “chance to rebuild or make amends” because it’s “never enough!” or “wasn’t done the right way! They needed to be hurt more!” and “If there is a redemption arc, they kind of have to be not-really-a-bad-guy to begin with and thus not *actually* be a villain!” Or, sometimes (Kipo, I’m looking at you), a bad guy makes a genuine change in life and does start becoming a good person, but is also killed at the end because he used to be a bad guy and anyone who starts out as a bad guy deserves to die and/or be exiled and lonely / locked up forever / torture in some form / lose everything they love / something to happen to them. It seems to be what we are used to and what we expect, so if something subverts that expectation for a more grace-filled narrative, that fandom will become the worst fandom ever for people arguing with each other over it. It seems like it happens a lot with progressive fandoms / progressive media, too. It’s like we think we’re better than some of the old tropes, more into starting over, not holding to black and white morality, understanding what leads people to do the things that they do as far as mental illnesses and abuse cycles that we may have gone through in real life ourselves, finding new ways of thinking and living, general compassion, but, nope... we get fans of something hung up on “characters must suffer” and they still want to see death / pain to the “bad guys,” or even someone who is overall good but made a few mistakes along the way. (It honestly reminds me of some conservative media. Back in my more crazy-religious days in my cringy, cringy youth, I read a few of the Left Behind books and among their many flaws was this relentless narrative punishment of one character for the grave “sin” of once being an adultery-temptation for the main character). Dude, when Spop discourse reminds me of Left Behind, it’s time to step back. (But maybe the LB stuff was more satisfying to its fans because it was canon). If the narrative doesn’t punish a character “enough” in these fandoms (and who is to say what’s enough? Character X could go to prison for the rest of their life and half of the fandom would be pissed off that they were still ALIVE or went un-tortured, it would seem) some people just get up in arms about it.
