another thing— i don’t care what versions of peter and what deadpool get shipped together. when i’m talking about spider-man i’m usually thinking mcu spidey because civil war/hoco came out when i was a teenager, and although i grew up with tobey and andrew’s spidermen, i got very attached to tom’s spidey and he’s the one who stuck with me. i usually mix canon when i’m discussing spideypool (combining all of the spider men’s movie plots, spider-man and deadpool’s comics, deadpool’s movies, etc.) feel free to imagine whoever or whatever you want!

IN SAYING THAT — i keep having to remind folks that mcu!spider-man/tom holland’s spider-man is officially born in 2001 and therefore 23 as of the time i’m making this post. he’s not a minor so please stop jumping on my ass about this 🙏 in any case, he’s a fictional character, just let people live.

Ship wars and why they don't let us appreciate and enjoy good characters (Akane Kurokawa and Kana Arima). PART 3

Channeling Ai's charisma: ¿Another reason to hate Kana and Akane?

In this post, I'd like to talk about how both Kana and Akane managed to channel a part of the legendary figure known as Ai Hoshino (Akane, by acting like the person who was Ai. Kana, by performing like the idol who was Ai). However, instead of that being a reason to applaud both of them for their incredible abilities as performers in the entertainment industry, it became another reason for anti-fans to hate the characters. The figure of Ai Hoshino as a tool for measuring a person's talent.

At this point, the figure of Ai has practically become the epitome of what a “perfect idol” should be. And even that title has transcended to what a “perfect performer” in general should be. For that reason, the fact that both Kana and Akane came to mirror Ai's talent at one point, is the author's way of telling us how great both of their abilities are as performers. It's not a competition to see who can replace Ai. Of course, it is essential to clarify that, although both characters have suffered criticism from their respective haters, Akane is the character with the most unfair treatment. And this is due to the way in which the antifans have decided to interpret the moment in which she acted as Ai for the reality show.

Toxic AquaxKana shippers have never been able to forgive Akane for her acting having such an impact on Aqua. ¿Why? Because they decided to think that Akane acting as Aqua's mother would cause him to fall in love with her. Instead of seeing it as a showcase of Akane's amazing acting skills (the way she can bring a character to life, especially a character as mysterious and with many secrets as Ai) they interpreted that action as a threat to their ship AquaxKana. Thanks to that, haters have created their own version of the manga, where Akane has copied Ai's personality and acts like her around the clock because she is obsessed with Aqua. A version where they can forget that Akane is an ACTRESS.

“I hate Akane because she only copies Ai.”

Akane didn't copy Ai. She acted like Ai for a job. No one says things like “Andrew Garfield is copying Peter Parker” or “Heath Ledger is copying the Joker”, right? Because it's just wrong to reduce an actor's work to something as basic as “copying”. And all to create illogical reasons that haters and toxic shippers use to say that their ship is the right one. “Kana is better for Aqua because she's like Ai without knowing it, it comes naturally to her, not like Akane who just copies her”. (I wish I was making this up, but I've actually seen comments like this). ¿Why forget all the other good attributes of Kana and say she's good for Aqua only “because she resembles Ai/is like Ai” ¿Why reduce a good character to her resemblance to another? When it came to Akane, her impersonating Aqua's mother was “weird” and “creepy” and “toxic”. ¿Why now, with Kana, the exact same thing suddenly becomes a reason for Aqua to love her? It has already been established that to Aqua, Kana is like a light in the darkness. Kana doesn't need to be Ai. During her first concert, a panel of Kana was shown very similar to Ai's, but not to establish that she would be the next Ai, but to show the great potential that Kana has to be an idol. In a way, Akane and Kana haven't let Ai's spirit die completely, and that's wonderful. It's like a way of saying that Ai will live on forever in the next generations of big stars. (If only haters could see that).

About Me: I write on Discord or through Tumblr messages. I like to stick to Tumblr for plotting. I write in third person, past tense and usually around 200-400 words. Daily replies won't happen because I work full-time during the week. I try to get replies out within 3 days (sometimes sooner). If it's going to take longer than 5 days, I'll let you know. I don't double because I don't have the free time to do more than one thread per person. I like to write NSFW/smut. While I always seek it, it's not a requirement for any of these.

What I'm Looking For: Various fandom roleplays. Canon x canon is my preference but I'm willing to discuss canon x OC. MxM ships are highly preferred. FxF and MxF I'll do but on a more limited basis. I tend to stick to canon or canon divergent plots. No AUs that are way out there. As long as it makes sense within the canon universe, I'll usually be okay with it. When writing threads, I don't expect more than one reply per week from my writing partner. When plotting, I like to hear back within 2-3 days. I'm willing to wait longer. I've seen a lot of like, discourse in the Stranger Things fandom and I don't like it. There's a cool video of Eddie cosplayers just like, having fun at a con goinng around and it's spawned some mouth breathers that claim to like the show spreading a lot of hate because of it. Saying things like "Eddie would hate you guys" and "You're ruining this fandom/Eddie" which just makes me wonder, like are y'all watching the same show?? I feel like you guys have some weird gatekeeper version of Stranger Things I want no part of.

Stranger Things has always been for self proclaimed weirdos like Eddie and pretty much anyone outside of the preconceived societal norms. Eddie's literally called Eddie 'The Freak' Munson, and in all honesty, people who are saying shit like this would probably have been friends with Jason and Angela, not him. He'd be taking in the people you bully and telling you to fuck off, quite honestly. If you're gonna keep spreading this bullshit, take it somewhere else?? Or keep it to yourself, cause haven't you heard if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all? If this is somehow controversial, I don't give a shit. I honestly don't care what y'all think of me because I know I'm right. If you still don't believe me, some trans dude on the internet, take a look at what David Harbour himself said a few years ago about the show.

Hopper himself would punch you assholes in the face, so if you have a problem with Stranger Things fans literally just enjoying themselves, you can take it up with him.
