How to NOT get screwed over when getting a new job

Ok, some of you might be “Uh... Why is this on a fanfic blog? (and where is a new fic? It's coming.)” Why I am addressing this is because I know that some of you are at that age when you search for a job.

Before I start, some background info: this was my first job. My parents were always supportive of me since one of them is an immigrant who knows how hard it is if you don't have the right papers in the right country. So they agreed on helping me financially until I had graduated. You know, so I have a good chance of getting a decent paying easy job. I am no genius so they also wanted me to focus more on studying than some sort of side thing happening in my life.

Now, I am not going to say here who my employer is since I signed a paper not to share stuff about them on social media. I am not violating my contract by not saying who they are since it can not be traced back to them. (Already messed up enough that I have to say this but ok, moving on.)

The first red flag was actually already present when I signed my contract. (Crazy, right? Bad employers doing a shady job since the beginning.) So I sit there , doe eyed, singing it. The person who was the representative of the company, in my case, more or less flew over the most important things but didn't get into details. My first advice: Nope. This is not good. First red flag.

Go into detail. Ask them specifically how many hours per week can be added with or without your consent. Some companies are a bit more relaxed and allow you to choose whether you want to work longer than you signed up for or not. Now, the guy said something along the lines of “You could”. Yeah, no. I always have the long shifts and from what I can see, everyone does. We are all overworked and are in desperate need of more hands. (I am not going to be advertising them. Don't worry. They even want to cut costs by not hiring any more than the absolutely necessary minimum of workers. And they wonder why peeps go on strikes...)

The second is, he was awfully relaxed in his way of talking to me. Not in an “I'm relaxed because today is a not-so-busy day” but in a “we are friends and this is a big family”. A bit too much like he was an old friend. This had been a bit weird for me since the beginning because, well, the guy literally decides whether I am getting hired or not. Shouldn't he be a bit more, idk, professional? But I noticed sooner than later (to be exact, one week after I started working for them) that the guy was simply trying to butter me up. Not in the typical way of companies roping in workers. No. He had to do this because otherwise there wouldn't be a single reason why you would start working there.

I talked about that point with one of my friends. They have a bit more experience with finding jobs and they explained to me that such “buddy-buddy” strategies are always a red flag for them. If a company is good in what they do they don't have the need for such a thing. They have a more professional way of recruiting and whilst a joke or two might be made they are by far not mostly made out of relaxed chit-chatter.

There might be even more factors that I don't even notice being at play here. But he made me sign a contract that 1. makes me to work even longer than I signed up for on some weeks (like, way too much but I am not allowed to speak about details here) and 2. pays me less than I was promised. Heck, I even had to call the German taxing department or however you call it in English because they even put me in the wrong tax-paying class. Now, if this was a small company then ok, not cool as well but at least you could push all of that on the fact that they are so small and might even be inexperienced that they make mistakes but (and a huge reason why I don't lose a word about who they are) such a huge company? They make at least MILLIONS. This is also why I avoid getting into a fight with them. If they were to throw me in front of a judge then I wouldn't be able to keep up with them. They have so much money that they can literally buy themselves out of a situation.

Hi hi i heard you wanted some headcanons!! As always this is /lh, not meant to be taken that seriously, agree to disagree, yada yada all that good jazz lmao. Most of them are pretty crack-y in nature as well, they're just meant for fun lol. And with that, I'll compile my miles long headcanon list into (mostly) sorted by character for everyone's convenience lmao

- starting off strong with trans EJ! Idk why but do headcanons really need a reason? (I do know why) (i like to make my blorbos suffer 💖) (and also [diverges your neuros] [transes your genders] [homos your sexuals]). Also biromantic asexual king

- more EJ because he's THE blorbo. Boy is british asf and he knows BSL and is learning ASL. Touch averse as well. I feel like EJ would actually be a decent if not great cook.

- EJ purring like a cat when he's content/happy? I think yes! Also has a tail with one of those tail tuft thingies? Kinda like lions if you know what i mean. And the pointy ears (peak character design yaknow)

- moving on. I feel like Jeff knows how to play an instrument. Probably electric guitar. He also has like a bajillion band t-shirts. Jeff also likes to take long, hot showers but hates to comb his hair lol

- while Brian cooks food so bad/raw it could as well just still be alive, Toby is either a great cook or a disaster in the kitchen with seemingly no indicator for which one it's going to be on any given day. I'm talking managing to burn a pot of water one day and cooking a michelen star worthy meal the next.

- Kagekao is actually fluent in English and speaks and understands it perfectly, he just refuses to speak it. He takes great amusement in watching other people lose their minds over this

- speaking of languages, i feel like Toby would be bilingual if not multilingual. He speaks English and German, maybe even Spanish if we're going the multilingual route

- also. Oh my god. The generational difference between BEN "memelord who quotes vines like there's no tomorrow" Drowned and Slenderman is just. I cant stop laughing thinking about it. Any given conversation between these two is just a gamble on who is going to lose it first

- BRVR is kinds Lost Silver's pet but also not really? Like he just kinda goes wherever but Lost Silver mainly takes care of him

- LJ he/it truther

- Me and a friend came up with this which probably explains why it is cracky as fuck but hear me out. Jeff as a makeup artist. He made Slender look like Beyonce once. No one knows how he did it and how he's not dead (the answer, as my friend said, is "no one can hate Beyonce")

- i feel like Toby, BEN, and Jeff would be like. The chaos trio. God knows what will happen when you put the three of then alone in a room together

- i also feel like Brian sunburns really easily.

- Tim is one of those dads that wants to leave in the middle of the night for road trips / holidays to avoid the traffic jams

Did Lily ever hookup with any of the other companions and what factions did she work with before arriving to Nuka World?

Was she the typical civilian (minuteman type) and got corrupted by the wasteland/enticed by the raiders of Nuka World or was she always a little Neutral Evil?

Never apologize for a long ask!! I love in depth questions like this!! I really loved this ask and was so excited I had to answer this the moment I saw it!! This answer is super long btw! I couldn't JUST answer these questions, I had to give you a full history of my OC.

So I have been thinking of Lilly's story for a long time, along with her character development. She is originally based on my evil Overboss playthrough of Fallout 4 where I completely ignore the main story LOL. I get to Nuka World as soon as possible by leveling up, mostly by doing Good Neighbor and Cabot family/Edward Deegan missions.

So Lilly's story isn't quite set in stone! But my main idea so far is that she is pre-war. Lilly does come from Vault 111 but she isn't the mother of Shaun and isn't the Sole Survivor. That's her brothers problem, who gets out of the vault a few days before she does. He goes one way, using his military training and desire for revenge to survive, becoming the leader of the minutemen(or he joins the Brotherhood. Maybe both?? idk yet) Meanwhile Lilly escapes Vault 111 and goes a completely different direction.

The vault is picked clean, and the body's of her brother and nephew are missing, while her sister in laws corpse has a bullet in her skull. Lilly finds no sign of her brother, and doesn't search too hard either. She leaves the vault, avoiding the neighborhood of Sanctuary and the possible people that lived there, their campfires burning brightly in the night only deterring her away.

Lilly's pre-war life wasn't military like her brothers. She was a "no good hippie" who was between jobs and staying with her brother and his wife until she "got back on her feet," Her brother took her in. In return she would help her PTSD stricken brother and his depressed wife take care of their brand new infant son.

Lilly was seen as no good to most in the pre irradiated world. She had been a part of the large underground punk scene in Boston, becoming a disgrace to her family and a nuisance towards the police. Her life had always been chaos, never knowing quite what she wanted to do as she jumped from job to job trying to keep money in her pocket that was instantly spent on drugs and lipstick.

Lilly doesn't even spare a second glance at the vault or neighborhood as she heads into the wasteland. She is more than prepared to leave her old life behind in the ashes of the old world, so she immediately finds a change of clothes, some chems, and heads towards Boston. She doesn't know why Boston, maybe just morbid curiosity of what the city had turned into. Maybe in search for drugs and answers to why she was still living. Her mindset is that of a depressed addict. Nothing on her mind but that next hit that would bring her that sweet rush of endorphins.

She enters the world with little to no knowledge. She can fight decently with her fists and switchblade, pick locks, run her mouth and hardly shoot a gun. She has a rough time getting to Boston, the weirdly smart German Shepherd she finds at a gas station, and lovingly names Dogmeat, helps her survive her first few weeks in the wasteland.

Soon she finds herself in Boston, and like all drifters, she quickly finds herself in Goodneighbor. She immediately sees the potential in the city and in its mob boss ghoul mayor. Lilly and Hancock quickly become romantically involved. (She is def fucking Maccready in secret too. But RJ is nothing more than some fun to her. She also has a fling with Edward Deegan who she also meets in Goodneighbor when he comes offering a job.)

In my au Hancock is a bit darker and mob boss like, Lilly corrupting him slightly. She helps clean up the city, both metaphorically and physically. She wipes the triggermen out, and takes down Marowski. Long story short they take over his chem empire and become the main chem bosses and suppliers of the commonwealth. They build Goodneigbor into an empire. Her charisma and luck are incredibly high, making it all the easier for her.

John teaches Lilly about the Commonwealth, about proper fighting and weapons. She gains as much knowledge as she can about the new world, settling into the line of leadership and manipulation well. But John wants something real and long term. He loves her, but Lilly doesn't love him in return. He has big ideas for the future, from helping synths to building supply lines to marrying her. Lilly doesn't share the same feelings or ambitions, so she leaves.

She takes her knowledge and weapons of the new world and leaves Goodneighbor without warning and without a trace. She disappears yet again into the wasteland until the best thing to ever happen to her since finding Dogmeat happens. She finds Nuka World and meets Porter Gage. Or maybe he finds her instead?? I don't quite have how they meet picked out yet but I have some ideas!

So yes, Lilly has always been a bit evil! She had a few loose screws in the beginning and the Cryo pod only made it worse. She is corrupted before the bombs, but the wasteland corrupts her further and further. By the time she reaches Nuka World she is already a pretty bad person who is scarred inside and out. Meeting and joining the raiders only corrupt her further. Gage actually helps her get clean and off of chems, but she does get a little crazier. But she couldn't be happier. Porter Gage and Nuka World become her lifeline.

Gage does change her for the better. Lilly finally able to commit to things in her life for once, like her romantic relationship with Gage and job as Overboss.

Fun fact: I actually named Lilly after my evil five pound toy poodle. Lilly is a grumpy old bitch of a dog. She is my whole entire world but she has some screws loose for sure.

So the short answer: Yes! She does hook up with other companions, but only John Hancock and RJ maccready. She also sleeps with Edward Deegan, having a short fling with him. All of these relationships are nothing compared to what she has with Porter Gage, their bond being actual love. Lilly is factionless, choosing to go her own way entirely. She becomes a mob boss before completely ditching that life and disappearing on the irradiated wind before finding Nuka World. Starting over with yet another new life. Lilly is a bit evil from the beginning, but the wasteland does corrupt her further.

.hack//YGO Characters, Classes, and Archetypes (Part I)

(aka the main reasons why I rotate this AU in my brain every damn night)

I have decided to be particularly passionate about this AU because it works so well and Quill (@themadcaptain) and I have been bouncing ideas off of each other on and off about this...... the more we learn about The World and the .hack// franchise, the more I fall deeper into this idea of all these card game nerds playing a high-stakes mmo (instead of the usual high stakes card games)

Below the cut is what we think their mmo classes would be, or what characters they would be based on!

disclaimer: neither of us have played past the original ps2 games or watched past .hack//SIGN, so we have no idea what the newer classes are or how they would synergize with these characters;;; however all of this is subject to change once we eventually play the .hack//G.U. remaster

First of all, Ryou as a Wavemaster is the #1 reason this au even exists. I mean, look at these designs, they were MADE for him:

Just guys and gals with loose fitting clothing, silly hats, and a big staff. It's absolutely right up his alley, particularly what we've seen from small bits in the Monster World Arc and the Duelist Kingdom Arc:

Ryou just likes being a mage and a healer. He demands it, and who am I to tear him from that path?

He uses the handle Amane in The World - a tribute to his little sister :')

Speaking of light magic users, Yugi as a Twin Blade makes perfect sense. Twin Blades are among the most balanced classes in The World, with decent attack stat growth and magic stats... very much a "jack of all trades" kind of class. While they can't equip the strongest weapons/armor or use higher level magics, twin blades are absolutely pro at fast multi-hit attacks, and can exploit elemental weaknesses in enemies.

Yugi uses the handle Kameshi in The World, though I may change this to something more fitting later; it's written using the kanji 亀嗣 (is this how Japanese works?)

There are quite a few Twin Blade designs - beforehand, I only had knowledge of these two Twin Blade characters:

From Left to Right: Sora from .hack//SIGN; Kite from the .hack//Games

But then I saw Haseo from .hack//ROOTS and the .hack//G.U. games and... well...

I MEAN...

(Also, peep that eye wave design on Haseo's shoulder... it's an extremely plot-relevant wave design... but I'm just saying, that could very easily be mistaken at first glance for the udjat or wedjat eye.....)

And of course Atem would also have the same Twin Blade skin, but their wave designs would be mirrored... if you're familiar with the .hack//Games, he's playing a similar role as Helba, a mysterious hacker who helps out the main protagonists with the Data Bugs in the system, as well as with facing off against the main antagonist.

(In some early concept art below, I gave him a snake mask - most of The World is rooted in Germanic myths, but I wanted to have this AU's version of The World have more Egyptian mythos, so Atem's avatar is known as Apophis.)

(In this early concept art I gave him an avatar similar to Sora's, but I've decided against that after all.)

I've also talked a bit about Kaiba in my last post, and I am absolutely slapping him firmly into the role of Balmung - one of the most famous players in The World and the one who has been combating the Data Bugs alone, refusing to work with the hackers who have been fighting the common enemy. I imagine his avatar looks incredibly similar to Balmung's as well, although I don't think he would be a Blademaster... or maybe he would? I picture him as a Long Arm, mostly because it gives me Dragoon vibes, but idk!

Staying firmly with the Egyptian myth theming, his handle is Set (of the Azure Eyes).

Helba and Balmung have some fun dialogue at the start of the .hack//Games... so I'd imagine things would be a lot snarkier between Apophis and Set...

I'm so sorry, I thought german was your native language — didn't want to passive-aggressively pressure you into picking up DuoLingo, of all things 😅😬 (the update that removed the skill tree made the appbso godawful..)

Sadly, I don't have any great german whump recommendations either - german writing onkine seems rare, I know a bunch of german creators but they all exclusively write and chat in english (which is why I mistook you for one, LOL).

The actual reason why I asked you, is because in my experience, reading unexpectedly whumpy stuff in your native language in a book for example just *completely* overruns you. I tend to feel more strongly when hearing/reading in my native language.

But on the other hand, german is notorious for having absolutely disgusting, unappealing dirty talk/sex words in general ('breast warts' for nipples and 'sheath' for vagina, urgh). So it's a fickle thing, ha ha.

Sorry for teasing and then not delivering! 😅 Maybe someone reading this *does* know good german whump that is meant as such!

it is in fact not my native language, im hungarian :) but yeah theres a BUNCH of german whumpers here who all write in english, and from my experience u guys have a particular talent for it😭 its so good.

i do love well written hungarian literature that has whump, but all the shit online makes me cringe so bad. and i know its in my head mostly (or the fact that im not looking in the right places?) but yeah. what usually gets me is poetry. hungarian poetry is extremely good. im still looking for that one poem of the guy listing off all the things he loves abt his muse and he goes into incredible detail and starts getting unhinged w it and starts going on abt how he loves her organs and her guts and etc etc. its visceral. literally. we have such good poetry and well all poets r depressed so its always a little whumpy /j

...520, as of right now.

2. What’s your total A03 word count?

Right now it's 916,952 words. If I can get somewhat out of this writing slump, I should be able to crack the 1mil next year.

Drei Fragezeichen/Three Investigators pretty much exclusively (506/520) with the occasional Tatort (Berlin) fic thrown in.

...probably 9mm, although some of the oneshots in the sometimes suffering is just suffering collection probably aren't much better (special mention for Kammerspiel, I guess.). If you go look at these, please mind the tags.

I write a lot of fluffy shit and I do love my happy endings, two fics that specifically come to mind are Vegas Wedding (Peter/Skinny wedding) and weil dieses timing immer irgendwas gegen uns hat (Cotta/Victor, who meet five times over the years but the timing is only right the sixth time and they're so so relieved they finally get to be together).

8. Do you get hate on your fic?

I got one weird comment a long time ago that boiled down to "trans!Cotta is unrealistic and not canon" (okay, chill?) and more recently (i think earlier this year or late last year) someone going "please block me so I don't have to see your fics anymore" (dude, just exclude me from the search???) but apart from that it's been quiet, although there do seem to be some people in the broader fandom that absolutely loathe me (or so I've been told xD).

9. Do you write smut?

...there are a lot of those. Let's all keep our fingers crossed I'll eventually finish the perfect part about it is: it's all that i've got because I'm actually still mad passionate about it.

Dialogue, I like to think.

Long fic, no discussion. I'm decent at oneshots and short-ish multi-chaps, but real actual long fic is a battle.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

Sure! Love it! Currently it's mostly the occasional french phrase for Victor, but there is abandoned Inglourious Basterds fic on my hard drive where the dialogue switched between English, German, and French.

And how is knowing more than one language supposed to be something that makes you not normal or truly amazing? Maybe it's an American cultural thing idk, but in Europe it's common for a big importance to be placed in learning other languages besides our own.

I'm not from the UK, I'm from Portugal so idk exactly how different things might be over there. I also have finished school a long time ago and I have heard they adjusted the curriculum so kids are starting English even earlier than before.

I went to a regular public school. It's mandatory to learn English and French as part of the regular curriculum. I had english classes two times a week from age 10 to 14 and French also two times a week from 12 to 14. Then when I started 10th grade I still had two additional years of English and I chose advanced English as an optional course to have at 12th grade. I wish I had had the option to keep studying French cause I loved it. There was also german as an optional course and I would have choosen that, but there weren't enough people interested so it never went forward.

When I went to university to study Psychology, we were literally sent home with scientific articles all in English, some in French, to read. It was kind of expected you would be decent on it and most scientific articles are written in English. Not much way around it.

Nowadays, as I'm not doing active classes anymore I use duolingo as a way to constantly keep my English and French somewhat fresh. Maybe not enough to speak with someone, but to mostly understand what I read and be able to type around a response. I also started to study german and japanese, simply because I wanted to. And when I feel like I'm decent at them enough to not confuse languages, I'm probably going to choose other ones to learn. Maybe I'll never use it, but it's fun, it's good to keep your brain stimulated and there are way worse hobbies I could pick from

So like to me, saying normalize being normal just because it was said that yk Joe had a good education and maybe even stretches the muscles a bit so he doesn't lose what he learned in school or maybe he has an interest in languages idk, is a bit ???. To me it's just something common and doesn't make anyone super human. We can have hobbies related to education yk

As far as I remember, Joe also mentioned a Spanish teacher so maybe he even speaks a bit of spanish still who knows?

About the degree thing, no one even said that he inherited anything (it kind of sounds really bizarre to say that) but is it really hard for y'all to concede that having a mom as a therapist might have had influence on him for the better or the worse? Don't your parents in general have influence in how you see the world?

Also Joe himself said that if he wasn't an actor, he would probably want to be a therapist like his mom. Do you want better proof that something in him identifies what his mom does and that he thinks maybe it could have be a viable career for him than that? My mom is a kindergarden teacher, I often think I could see myself doing the same job because like her I also love dealing with small children. When I was younger, I used to go to work with her all the time and loved to help her with them. If I disliked children, I probably wouldn't think like this. So maybe Joe may think he would love to do the same thing as his mom, cause he likes helping people or he knows he's a good listener for example. It doesn't make him have her degree, but it does make him have some important qualities you need as a psychologist. I can tell you most people who want to be psychologists say it's either because they want to help people or because it started as them wanting to understand themselves and seeing other people as interesting to figure out

yeah I mean I speak English and Russian fluently because home languages, I can understand and read Ukrainian but it’s hard for me to speak it, same with Afrikaans although I’m a little more confident speaking it than Ukrainian, I did French at school and I can say basic things and have basic social convos and I can watch movies without subtitles though I miss stuff, I did a semester of Latin at uni for fun (it wasn’t that fun btw but I tried), I did a year of isiXhosa when I was doing my PGCE and I know enough Hebrew to deal with the basic religious stuff and like say basic things to Israelis although when they answer I struggle to understand because fluent Hebrew is so much faster and there’s a LOT of slang and stuff. I’ve tried learning Turkish and want to keep trying but I find it hard. I don’t think saying we know for a fact Joe speaks decent French (again we don’t know that he’s fluent) is saying he’s some genius. I can’t remember him saying he was learning Spanish but I wouldn’t be shocked if he’d tried.

I think anon was just mildly bothered by the idea that Joe might be like… educated… which he is. And has had exposure to various cultures… which he’s had.

As for him and therapy lol honestly therapists’ kids are often very fucked up so I’m not sure it influenced him for the better but it defs influenced him. And I think that is also why I push back at the idea that he had like MDD and the only person trying to help him was Taylor and she got too tired as that one anon said because Joe is close to his family and I’m sure his mother can spot MDD. I think he’s just got a stressy depressy personality that Taylor originally liked and then got over lol. I also thought of something re all that - given he sorta “rescued” her in 2016 I wouldn’t be shocked if he was expressing concerns about her getting this big again which were less to do with not wanting to let her bejeweled and more to do with how he remembered how bad shit was last time. But also like that just meant they weren’t compatible and I think both were making the other miserable.

scout's a total doting sweetheart (sometimes to an annoying point, but you find it sweet) and medic's a deranged sweetheart (sometimes to a scary point, but you find it hot)

cuddles are always fun bc medic likes to big spoon and scout likes being held

so you get to be the meat in a big ol man sandwich at cuddlytimes :)

medic probably prefers handholding, back rubs, etc, other forms of physical affection, over cuddling

-Canon Era:

The Delancey brothers and Race owe each other life-saving favors. (Race: I saved your half-sister one time and now you feel the need to try and save my life. Ya know what? How bout you just don’t beat up Crutchie instead, yeah?)

Race and Jojo were selling buddies once upon a time.

Race has a cop buddy by the name of Marco Hawkes (who is also Italian). Hawkes has decently high rankings at his police precinct so he usually keeps an ear out for Race so he doesn’t end up back in a Refuge like place.

(Going by Livesies canon) Race met Denton after the strike and now they hang out sometimes. Tea and biscuits, sniffing out the latest story, Denton helping Hawkes bail Race and Albert out of jail, etc.

Sort of a pyromaniac, he more likes watching things burn than actually starting fires.

Convinced Finch to use berries in his sling-shot once so when he shot someone the mushed berry would look like blood

the long history of me and languages

1st language: ASL until I could hear properly when it was abandoned for verbal English at age 2? (know the alphabet due to later instruction I sought, and a handful of signs, could maybe have a conversation.) Also, if I go nonverbal, I retain ASL, possibly due to being taught as a baby? idk.

2nd language: English (most proficient)

3rd/Where it gets confusing:

Korean: had to try to learn for Tae Kwon Do (failed miserably and maybe speak three words-entirely verbal)

Spanish*: chose this pathway at my school system instead of French

Home languages:

Spanish*

French* (brother mostly bilingual, exposed bc of my friends who took french, did some duolingo)

Italian (very limited)

Arabic (parent, beginner, knows more than they ever told me, has not taught, although I know to not say the last 'a' in Dish Dasha)

Indonesian (I know maybe ten words and some grammar-verbally)

Yiddish (is used rarely, I maybe know three words, used in habit, not to speak, if that makes sense)

Why I put a freaking * above:

I was actually getting towards being decent at Spanish. But the thing is. The rupture that caused my hearing loss was right above the hearing bones, meaning my brain was wired to hear sound improperly. So when my eardrum was repaired, my brain had to basically rewire everything. Due to this, neglect to focus on school, and its similarity to French, I've mostly lost it. Kind of. Do I sometimes perfectly speak short sentences in Spanish, conjugating verbs? Yes. Do I sometimes get thrown into an existential crisis as I try to remember a single word? Yes.

that's good Elsie. Well its currently summer on this side of the world so yeah I'm boiling over here. Lucky you sitting next to the guy you like. Oof French good luck with that. I'd love to do French but here I am speaking Afrikaans. I believe that you'd do well. What my afrikaans teacher says:" practice oral speaking in front of a mirror so you know whether or not you look like a gogga( bug/insect)."

I've did some of those edits. Not a professional or anything. Quite cool. I also keep adding more and more to stuff. I started taking up track and gardening. But now in mostly focused on school. Gotta keep up the good marks.

French isn’t actually that hard of a language, it’s just,,,, the conjugations,,,, the grammar rules—. Growing up, I took a few years of Mandarin but bc I have no home speakers it was HARD. My dad knows some German though, so I bet he’d be able to pick up Afrikaans decent adjacent.

Track and gardening are really good!! My dad and I garden in the early spring-late summer. My gym teacher from HS, wanted me to join track and I never did. Idk why. She held a grudge on me for a while for that.

What languages do you know? I've been learning German for a while and it's fulfilling being able to hold a conversation haha

i know german too :D and great job getting to that level!!

- native swedish - fluent english (mostly learnt by immersion in games n fandom etc) - german from school + got good at it by immersion (reading manga etc) so im theoretically rly good at it but i barely use it anymore so its more like i understand a lot but dont rly speak it, i went to germany a bunch of times - japanese from self-study + school + immersion (im not super advanced but i got around just fine in japan for a year using only japanese so im somewhere like low-intermediate idk) - i understand a lot of norwegian and danish from the swedish similarities + i spent time reading books in norwegian listening to music in danish etc aka immersion again - a little bit of icelandic bc i lived in iceland ~2 years and studied it some in classes + immersion (and its also similar to swe/nor/dan) - i know some esperanto (i can get around in basic convo) bc my abusive ex was into it and pushed me into it, in japan we spent time meeting up with esperantists so i got a lot of immersion again - im currently very slowly learning hebrew bc of gf and bc its my fav lang (alongside dutch)

i also randomly studied for a bit more langs, and i can understand some simple things in romance langs like anything of latin french spanish italian etc. i understand some words of finnish since most my family is from the very north of sweden and finnish is rly present there (we went to the north a lot). i understand a decent amount of dutch bc its similar to other langs i know + its my fav language (alongside hebrew) so i like listening to it. etc... just a lot of bits and pieces. i know linguistics related stuff in general like i was interested in grammar and etymology and all that

the reason this list is so long is bc language was always something i was interested in since childhood lol, i at one point considered becoming a linguistics professor but i suck at school so i couldnt do that. these days i barely study langs anymore and dont do much with it, but i hope to get more or less fluent in hebrew eventually
