Mini PSA but right when I started supernatural, I came onto Tumblr to look at the fandom. I had never been a part of Tumblr before, just very briefly or vaguely, so there were a lot of things I didn't know or understand references to or just know about in general.

So the first thing I searched was #supernatural, and that was a mistake bc immediately I got a few spoilers. I didn't mind too much, didn't think it was a huge deal (it was, I regret this). And then I looked through the tags on this one post, and the #Dean Winchester tag was colored purple and pink (which I now know means that it's trending). At the time, I thought to myself "Why is it colored like that? Well, the only other things I've seen colored like that are gay tags. Dean Winchester must be bisexual."

And I genuinely thought he was canon bisexual as I watched the first few seasons. Only when I started to look into Destiel did I realize that it wasn't technically canon and a lot of people didn't think that. So. Idk.

Okay im talking about my deltarune theory, forgive me if this already exists i know nothing about other dr theories since I wasn’t majorly in the fandom when I waited for the next chapters to release

DELTARUNE CHAPTERS 3 + 4 SPOILERS

along with mentions of neglect & sh

so about that chapter 4 ending….. back when we only had chapter 1, I thought up a theory about neglect in the lives of most our main lightener characters and how that ties into the dark world

it’s very clear with Susie, she’s obviously not from a great home life and we actually never even SEE her at home, even at the end of chapters. Obviously she’s not a fan of whatever caretakers she has and her disappointment with Toriel at the end of chapter 4 is most likely coming from a source of pain in her home life

Since chapter 4 it’s also pretty clear with Noelle, she clearly loves her parents but she avoids having people over when her moms home, follows her rules to a t, and everything seems incredibly tense after whatever incident with Dess. Maybe she’s not neglected per say but her home is definitely not a source of happiness for her, she’s clearly awkward in her own place

With Kris you kind of have to look deeper. Ik nobody wants to think Toriel is a bad mother and maybe she isn’t but there’s a lot she does that’s a bit iffy, even before the end of chapter 4,,,, Kris’s room is empty, their whole side of the room is bare and they’ve only got a cage in a wagon while Asriel’s is decorated with awards and a whole computer lol. And it’s not like Kris is just a husk of a person before we take over, according to Tenna they DID have interests and maybe they just threw everything out after the divorce of their parents but it doesn’t matter, why didn’t Toriel ask about it ? About their health ? There are references to Kris possibly self harming as well and they keep a knife that Toriel comments on (along with asking if she has to lock the oven again) but seriously if you’re a good mother are you just going to let your mentally ill kid with a history of self harm just keep a knife ?? And they seemed super upset with Toriel and Sans as well, their home is pretty tense now too.

Now Kris and Susie find the darkworld together and it seems to immediately help them with their mental health (more specifically Susie but we’ll say Kris is okay too I guess LOL). Susie really lightens up and even though Kris is controlled by our actions, the small moments in chapter 3 where we don’t control them show more of a personality than in the chapters before

Obviously we know now the dark world is fake in some way, a trick to the mind in darkness, but what if it really was just. A fantasy world created by a bunch of teens to cope with their bad lives at home

Me and my brother were having a conversation about 2 weird gaps in Ben and Gia’s relationship in the show. Here’s the two we pointed out but also points that can make the gaps kind of make sense. Also my wonderful brother whom I had this conversation with @mateothefrance

-“she lives in….Europe” (the way Ben says this kinda seems like he’s unsure, like she’s not real)

- zero mention of a girlfriend in season 2?? (from the relationship shown in season 3 they seem like a serious couple so why wouldn’t she even be referred to?)

There’s only two “gaps” (idk what to call them) but NEITHER OF THEM MAKE SENSE. Like at least half the fandom believed from that one seen in season one that she wasn’t real. But here’s a few things we pointed out that could make this make more sense.

“she lives in…Europe”

-he might’ve been hesitating to tell the truth since the three episodes prior he’s saying they’re being hunted. Maybe he didn’t trust the others? Or thought someone could be listening?

-the voice actor could have easily been given directions to say it like that and was never corrected, or just misinterpreted the scene

-they didn’t want us to believe she was real. Which, makes sense. Adding a new character, especially a love interest, is always better added when it surprises the audience.

Never being mentioned in season 2

-again, they’re on the run, and they don’t know who they can trust. Ben probably doesn’t want anything to happen to Gia

-my brother keeps telling me that they could just be in one of the first stages of a relationship where you’re all couple-y and cute, and not really telling people either. Personally he has a point, but this is immediately out the window when/if we get a timeline (the only one I can find is that they met in college)

-this one’s just a throw away one because we were having fun- Gia is actually into girls and Ben’s just pretending to be her boyfriend in front of Nonna so she doesn’t get suspicious (AGAIN THIS ONES A JOKE I KNOW ITS NOT ACTUALLY IT WE WERE JUST PLAYING AROUND)

I know a lot of this fandom is in the queer community and puts a lot of that into fics and stuff and I was wondering if you’d ever had the thought of adding some queer themes or character headcanons to the SGUN timeline? This is a super good question! And TY for asking it so respectfully!! Buckle up folks. Also this is just my own little take on the characters and how they fit in my story and me as a writer, I def read ships other people write for the fandom ����

Tbh I’ve waffled back and forth on it because I feel like some of the ships a lot. Ones that I sorta could see in my mind for my fics specially are Steve and Soda, also maybe Ponyboy and Johnny. I have eaten up fics about these pairs tbh 😂

however I waffle personally BECAUSE

1. (Less important) I feel like a really impactful point of the outsiders is like male friendships and that level of vulnerability is so rare and I really like the way that it sorta focuses on boys being able to have those deep emotional and physical connections without it immediately equating to a romantic relationship. Like part of the beauty of Steve and Soda’s friendship to me is that they can be vulnerable with each other and rely on each other for emotional support as friends which was like not a big thing especially in the canon time period. However, they also would work well romantically imo. I need the angst of them being in Oklahoma in the 60’s, so as I said I waffle 😂 also there were thoughts of sprinkling Steve and Soda in the background of SGUN, I also thought about having a little Parry reference there too (Darry out here having Bi energy to me, but that’s a whole other story lol).

2. (Importanter point 😂) I’m a cis straight (as far as I know lol, haven’t really dated anyone ever so 🤷🏼‍♀️) white woman, so I do want to really ensure that I have been respectful of the queer community (and other minorities) when I’m writing. I know there’s a lot of instances where one could argue straight women fetishize mlm relationships etc, so I also think that plays a role in me wanting to be mindful of making sure to not elevate my voice above queer community authors or not representing that community accurately if that makes sense? Idk like also I just don’t ever want to feel like I’m speaking about something I’ve never experienced and it coming off as disingenuous or disrespectful as many people have actual personal experiences with the topics I would be writing about. All this to say partially I’ve just been more neutral to be cautious because in a lot of ways I come from a place of privilege and I take that very seriously and try to constantly be aware the implications of that, both in my personal writing and also as a healthcare provider. Basically, I kinda worried myself into a little corner and was like it’s not my place to write those kinds of ships for this fandom 😂

All of this to say, I am not opposed to writing the aforementioned ships because I do feel like the shifting dynamics would be fun to explore, but I think I’ve just been cautious because I’m a nervous Nelly and want everyone to feel respected ❤️

while difficult obviously, i appreciate the way nora has handled homophobia in this book, in a way that balances having a safe place in the trojans with the homophobia of jeremy's family - i dont feel like i can explain it well, it just seems like she captures the homophobia of the time period well, especially in particular kinds of political circles, without it being miserable to read and a hopeless cesspit of homophobia idk

speaking of """time period""" (quotes because treating books set in the early 2000s as historical fiction feels wrong although at this point is accurate) the offhand reference to the politics surrounding the iraq war did untold levels of psychic damage to me

a lot of this comes from that while not a political family like jeremy's, i was growing up at the same time with a family that would have very much politically aligned with them and so it hits close to home

and i'm begging, jeremy needs to figure out in the third book that he deserves the same kind of future he wants for jean and all his friends - one where he is happy with the life he chooses!!!

also let him change his last name since he has rejected wilshire and he wants to let go of knox (i know someone who he could share a last name with too ;) )

after what feels like lots of fandom speculation, i loved that it was just kevin and andrew who came to california for the interview (ok i actually hate that andrew ever has to set foot in california again but narratively i appreciate what it says about his and kevin's relationship that andrew does it), AND the reveal that neil had not told either of them he'd been to see jean - i saw lots of posts/fanfic around neil going back to south carolina and talking to andrew about the grayson stuff and while i understand the interest in exploring that and i dont mean judgment towards that i just love that neil treats that as wholly jean's business and he is not going to be telling his secrets to anyone, including andrew

xavier explaining being trans to jean and jean is just immediately chill about it, in the most predictably jean way possible and its so 🥹🥹

in general rhemann's characterization in this book !! i love him your honor. i also love, again after ages of fandom speculation on it, that the one to go to violence for jean is rhemann, but not by breaking the rules to take a red card, but truly in a moment of physical defense of jean but that even STILL nora establishes that this does not make jean feel safe with rhemann, that he can physically stop zane scares him, even if when jean talks with adi he acknowledges he mentally knows rhemann wouldnt hurt him, he still feels scared (i feel like this mirrors neil/wymack's dynamic but its different, but that would be a whole other discussion)

laila and cat. cat and laila. i feel like we got so many insights into them in this book and yet i need MORE. the laila and jeremey family dynamics at play !! cat and jean as biker buddies !! also them at every possible opportunity being like "no jean really, please leave us in the house alone, we have some things to do. together."

the house... their home... im crying for them. while theres obviously the big things, i feel like the mentions of so many of the smaller sentimental things were like stabs in the heart - their photos from their dates, cat's quilts from her grandmother, jeremy's nan's movie collection, jean's first new postcard from kevin, and of course, barkbark :(

trying to rebuild their cozy space, and jean finding a painting in the store, and THAT being what spurs laila and cat into action, and while it's very much in a way of getting things that are "good enough" for now, rather than beloved pieces, i think its so so huge that their new place is something they are so actively building WITH jean

i 100% do not trust those fugly fbi agents though, im still suspicious of the new place

people are ratioing the shit out of rolin for his comment on the 2x08 reunion scene at atx, which was badly worded, to be fair, but that man is always talking out of his ass lmao

what i don't get is people using it as fodder to STILL, almost a year later, boil the scene down to "louis apologizes to his abuser," when he literally doesn't. the scene is about them acknowledging the harm they BOTH did to claudia. it's about louis embracing another chance at life after living in pain and regret for a century.

it wasn't a perfect scene, but it was an emotional catharsis necessary for both characters, and if u dont like it that's fine, but saying it's a bad season ending just bc you personally don’t like where it went is.....just not it, to me.

“sam and jacob thought the reunion was bad” is a popular argument also, when actually, it seems they just...didn’t have the time or environment to sit with it. they argued with rolin about it, bc they care about the characters. creative differences on a set of creative people.......is allowed.

and the level of contrition rolin is referring to, i think, is what jacob speaks to here. we don’t want louis to grovel. he shouldn’t. and ultimately he doesn’t.

racism and transphobia are rampant in this fandom esp bc the leads of the first two seasons are Black, and it's fucking awful, and ppl perpetuating it should be called in.

but if you hate every single aspect of loustat on the show, or the show in general, i truly don’t understand why ur watching. louis is my fave and that toxic blonde man is inevitably a part of his story and vice versa. i genuinely don’t get it.

I mean, I have no reason too, all my most embarrassing kinks are already pretty clear from the works I already have under my username, so 😂

I hadn't realised the spelling of "groin" as "groyne" was wrong. Google Docs, which is where I write all my works, says that "groyne" is the British spelling for "groin", and will flag "groin" as wrong when set to spell check for British English. As I try my hardest to use British English on my Marauders fics (even if that's hard for me, because I originally learned American English), I was under the impression it was correct 😂 but I've recently started spell checking on MS Word, and it does flag "groyne" as wrong, and it did leave me very confused.

Then, I googled it, and there are some references saying the spelling "groyne" is correct for British English... So idk, maybe some native speaker can clarify that for me? I'm very curious now.

hey all! so that post about po ship names got more support than expected, and i see at least two people would like to know the names i've come up with. so, here are some of my better works!

note that i don't ship really any of these that much, mainly cuz the only ship ive definitively decided so far that yes this is my yaoi is kaijoe, and also because a portion of these are crack-ish ships that i haven't seen anyone ship like at all (although i haven't checked out po ao3 yet so some of these might actually exist and i just have a blind spot). so if that fact degrades the quality of the names for you, sorry i guess

bulldozer, for bull/sandman. coming from bull, and to "doze" is to fall asleep, and also bulldozer is a word. kinda surprised i haven't seen this ship around, to me it feels like at least someone would ship it.

chocolate milk, for bull/doc. chocolate for doc, and bulls are male cows and female cows produce milk. this is a ship i'm pretty sure exists, but i haven't seen a name for it yet, so maybe this is already an accepted ship name for it like with the glass cannon situation. who knows

bullrush, for bull/hondo. it's a pretty obvious name, but it sounds really good so it's staying here.

redbull, for sodabull. redbull is a carbonated energy drink, which is basically soda. also bull in the name. i know this is one of the bigger ships in the tumblr po fandom, and i cannot believe no one calls it this. i can't have been the first person to come up with this! but everyone calls the ship sodabull so i just gotta live with it but now i'm breaking my silence!! sodabull should be called redbull. i mean maybe not in tags cuz that could get it mixed up with the energy drink but like you know!

popstar, for soda/macho. pop from soda pop(inski), and star because macho is a hollywood star. i feel the exact way about this one as i do with redbull-- it's a good fucking name but i haven't seen any macho/soda shippers use it and it drives me nuts

russian roulette, for soda/aran. soda's russian, and aran has a theme of luck, thus roulette. i haven't seen this ship much recently but scrolling back a while on the soda tag shows that this ship has existed. and i have not seen it be called russian roulette. what is it with soda ships and not reaching their name potential?

piña colada, for hippo/soda. piña colada is an often-alcoholic drink (soda has references to alcohol, and also his name used to be vodka) with pineapple in it (hippo has a lot of connexions to pineapples). ok, this ship i have not seen anyone ship (yet). this name i really just randomly came up with, but i like it and i think it fits and sounds good

dragon dance, for dragon/heike. this is mainly a reference to the move from pokémon of the same name. i am just about certain this ship exists, but i just! haven't! seen it yet!

pizzapie, for pizza/clown. pizzas are sometimes referred to as pies, or pizza-pies, and clowns are known for throwing pastry pies as physical comedy. ok guys hear me out! uh! uh. ok i got nothing, this ship just entered my mind one night and hasn't left since, like a prophet recieving a vision from a god except the god is dionysus wasted off his ass.

pineapple-shaped disco ball, for disco/hippo. i think the name's pretty obvious. i uh once heard the word cluster "pineapple-shaped disco ball" and immediately thought "lmao that sounds like a ship name for disco kid and king hippo" and promptly put it on my note of ship name ideas. i really like it for them because it's verbose and clunky, it sounds like something their collective braincell and a half would come up with.

“Are you quite sure you’re alright?” He says it like an after-thought and with a slight hint of annoyance that Charles is familiar enough with by now to place somewhere closer to nervousness. 

Charles takes a short unnecessary breath through his nose. Edwin is nervous. He’s worried about something beyond the immediate particulars of the case and he’s nervous to ask if Charles is alright. 

He follows Edwin’s invisible footsteps in the moth-eaten carpet and sits heavily on the top step of the stairs. He remembers the last time Edwin looked like that only vaguely, at the base of a lighthouse where the cold damp ground might have soaked the knees of Charles’ trousers if he’d been tangible enough for it to reach him. Where Charles had shrugged away the only thing that could still reach him like that: a tentative hand on his shoulder. Soft, even though he’d just watched Charles kill in cold blood. Always soft, despite everything. 

“I’m fine, really.” Charles rests his forearms on his knees, addressing the patch of stair between his loafers. “Nothing happened. They just talked about, well, them. Being together. They love each other a lot. It’s…nice.”

In terms of fanfic I think it's 3 total: The Case of David Bowie's Made-up Sexuality, which I AM still working on I promise!! (I actually started to do some research for it and went down a hole about object theory and hauntology?? Yes I am a nerd and yes fanfic is a valid method of practice based research, shush. Also some of the content got maybe a little bit triggering? So it's nice to kind of base it in something more concrete idk) also a couple others based on some AMAZING art/fic in the fandom that I'm so keen to get to interact with creatively ahhh v excited to finish and post those!!

💭 What is a headcanon you have about your own work?

I actually don't really know what's a specific hc for MY work vs my hcs for the media I write fic for, if that makes sense? But just in terms of dbd and how i've been enjoying writing that: Edwin's pov works in a mode based in literary/scientific/classical reference points and I always aim for this really specific intersection of poetry and metaphor with straightforward, empirical fact. It's SUPER fun for me!!

Charles' pov is a lot more straightforward - when I write him I literally am constantly going back and deleting words like "he thinks" and "he feels like." Where Edwin is intentionally a step removed sometimes and might go "he thinks there is something stifled inside of him that might never have fully caught on," even in metaphor, Charles is such a do-er, a man of ACTION, he's not going to waste time going "I think the situation is like xyz" he's barely going to think through it, he's just going to be like *this is the situation* even if it's blatantly wrong. Like, "Edwin is still going strong on his no detective work while Charles is useless campaign. Well, he doesn’t phrase it like that, but Charles can read between the lines well enough." "problematic thought pattern," "cricket metaphor," et cetera

Under the cut bc I rambled so goddamn much

My first impression: "oh...oh wait help her voice is so soft, oh she had a panic attack at her entrance exam? Oh baby 🥺"

My impression now: "that's my GIRL, that's my GIRL, she's got a gun and a magical punching spell and she's gonna kill everyone who hurts her or her friends"

Favorite thing about that character: She's so endlessly caring. She's been put through the absolutely wringer and yes, she's guarded about it. But she's so, so kind. She has downtime and she offers to clean her friend's closet or throw an ice cream party. She uses her jacket that can produce anything (under 10 gold) and 90% of the time uses it to get stuff for her friends. She's three for three on helping redeem wizard antagonists, she's amazing

Least favorite thing: It's more least favorite in that I love her so much, I want her to have nice things? But narratively, it makes sense. She's so guarded and independent because she's had to be. And so that means now she struggles to accept help and open herself up especially to parental affection. And it just breaks my heart, seeing how far she's come but how far she has to go to let herself be loved the way she deserves.

Favorite line/scene: Her and Aelwyn in sophomore year is imprinted on my brain forever. In Fallinel wizard jail, holding the broken shell of her big sister in Kei Lumenura, the confrontation in the nightmare forest. "I do not love our parents and though you have not earned it? I do love you." TEARS. EVERY TIME.

Runner up goes to any scene with her and Jawbone - the iconic "You're not a coward, Adaine, you're just sick, you need medicine!" and the equally iconic "You're easy to love. And anyone who couldn't figure that out is a real bozo."

Third place goes to the ping pong table scenes, both of them. The amount of times I quote "ONE GUY OFFERED ME DIAMONDS AND I RAN AWAY" in dms is so funny

Also obviously "MAGIC IS REAL AND SO IS MY FROG!!!!!!!"

Favorite interaction that character has with another: beyond the above examples with her and Aelwyn, her and Jawbone, and her and Oisin? It's so silly but I'll always have a soft spot for her and Zayn in the opening to sophomore year. "You may absolutely tread upon my sanctum santorum!"

Also ofc any interaction with her and Ayda so I'm SO glad we got that moment in junior year where they were shading each other. Their friendship means the fucking world to me. They made each other spells, I'm forever tender about that

A character that I wish that character would interact with more: After junior year, I have to say Sandra Lynn! Their scene was incredibly sweet!! She's her dad's girlfriend and the closest thing to a mother figure she has, they deserve to have a moment! Also in a similar vein, Tracker! Tracker is not only her adoptive cousin but also her former roommate - she lived with Tracker nearly as long as she's lived with Kristen and about as long as she's lived with Fig, I'm so curious about their dynamic.

Another character from another fandom that reminds me of that character: it's not at all a one to one but my immediate thought was Annette Dominic. Just? Idk something about incredibly studious girls who don't know how to relax and just be kids, who had to grow knowing they were abandoned or neglected by their parents and had to find the love they deserve in a group of school friends? Idk!! I think they'd be friends. Adaine would offer to kill Gilbert

A headcanon about that character: Though it's her legal name, Adaine doesn't really refer to herself as an O'Shaughnessy, mostly out of habit. At her college graduation ceremony, she insists on being announced as Adaine Abernant-O'Shaughnessy. Jawbone cries.

A song that reminds of that character: So I haven't started her playlist and didn't wanna just pull something from mine and Nick's ship playlist for her and Oisin, so I just looked on Spotify and 🥺 Someone gave her Waiting on a Miracle from Encanto and that breaks my heart, so I have to say that one.

An unpopular opinion about that character: I'm ambivalent on the glasses. I like her with or without them. I know most folks seem to think that's just canon but personally I'm way more team "Riz definitely has a tail" than "Adaine definitely has glasses"
