For powerups, do you have a theory or guess on what the other ones may be?
I mean, no not really, but I can maybe think of some to fit the theme? And the theme is Costume Change to Protect/Assist the wearer in ways the Original Suit Can't. So there's a Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, and Pink. So I'll fill in the grid:
Red - Fire. Obviously. And I mean capable of withstanding walking into a volcano. Maybe comes with oxygen masks, gloves, and helmets
Orange - Earth. Ground? Or Desert! Point is it's to carry the wearer through incredibly harsh terrain and make it a breeze.
Yellow - Electricity. Obviously comes with the ability to withstand electrocution, and probably has a lot of rubbery accents.
Green - Canonically Aqua. Comes with fins and the ability to breathe/speak underwater.
Blue - Canonically Ice. Comes with ice skates and better balance on ice.
Purple - Canonically Space. Comes with helmets and wings/jet-packs and can withhold the force of space.
Pink - Fairy. Bit of an outlier, but with magic being real, who's to say the only magic is Miraculous magic? This would come with shrinking ability and would "transform" the user into a fairy themselves, with wings (but no additional magical powers). Could be interesting for a Special Episode.
Honestly just look at Pokemon types lol. And like, Air (one of the allegedly "original" ideas) works but if you already have Space, it's redundant. Maybe if Purple had been, like, Poison you could have Air. Or make Pink Poison! Obviously since it's not a subject I love, I'm not married to any of these ideas, but this ^^ is essentially the first draft I would've submitted to ZAG to workshop it.

#996.5 - Frigibax inhabit forests and rough, rocky regions, capable of venturing beyond cold mountain ranges thanks to a unique ability that keeps these Ice-type Pokémon cool. Their triangular dorsal fin absorbs heat, which is converted into ice energy, enabling them to cool their surroundings. The hotter the environment, the more energy they can store. When sufficient energy is accumulated, Frigibax can freeze the air around them, forming sharp ice blades on their face and dorsal fin. As they mature, their legs grow stronger, enhancing their attack capabilities.
#997.5 - Capable of stronger physical feats than their previous evolution, Arctibax will attack their opponents with the icy blades on their dorsal fin by preforming an impressive front flip in the air. As they grow and mature, they add more sharp ice to their body, serving both as protection and offensive weaponry. Their axe-like dorsal blade grows with them, becoming a deadly weapon. A fully-grown Baxcalibur can spew cryogenic air from their mouthes that is so cold, it can instantly freeze even liquid-hot lava.

My Baxcalibur naturally takes great care of her dorsal fin and keeps it nice and sharp for battle. The problem is... she tends to do so by grinding it against hard surfaces and that hard surface is usually walls or floors. I've offered to sharpen it myself to help out and she doesn't have a problem with me touching it or anything, the problem is that she tends to get impatient at how long at takes for me to do it and really just wants to do it herself and it's back to scraping up the walls. Do you have any advice to maybe help make my sharpening sessions more enjoyable so she doesn't get antsy?
the main issue here is that you're not providing her with appropriate places to sharpen her blade on herself. that's a natural behavior for baxcalibur, and she's going to do it regardless of whether or not you help her. it's also not really safe for you try and help anyway. because baxcalibur's blade is on its back, you're never going to have a very stable surface or particularly good angle to work at. all it takes is one slip for that situation to turn very bad.
in the wild, baxcalibur sharpen their blade on rocks or ice formations. i'd recommend looking into a rock-based self-polishing post. you can find these at specialty pokemon supply stores geared towards rock or steel types. it'll be expensive, but it'll help prevent the inappropriate sharpening while also keeping you safe.

Pokemon Crossbreeds: Cadenza
(Name by @tlblitz )
Cadenza is the name for Lapras whose fathers were members of the Popplio line. Their name comes from Cadenzas, which are solos played before the endings of operas. They got their name from Lapras and Primarina's singing, and how Lapras are often found alone these days...
Cadenza Lapras gain the traits of Primarina, which includes lighter scales, a more bluish shell that matches the tails of Primarina, pointed scales, split tails, and paw-like fins. Cadenza Lapras sing more beautiful songs than standard Lapras, and it uses its singing to control the bubbles and ice around it. They're not show breeds, but many pokemon-based operas love them.

We know that narwhals are swimming in the ocean, causing a commotion, because they are so awesome, but what else do we know about them? This Wet Beast Wednesday, let's go over the unicorn whale, a classic animal that seems like it should be fictional (and should be a Pokemon by now). Narwhals are small (by whale standards) toothed whales that are one of the two living members of the family Monodontidae, the other being the Beluga. Both Monodontids have reduce snouts, giving them squarish heads, a ridge running down the back instead of a dorsal fin, and more flexible necks than most cetaceans. The name Monodontidae means "one-tooth". Despite this, both species actually have multiple teeth, with narwhals having two large teeth, one of which can grow into the famous tusk, and several vestigial teeth that are retained in the jawbone and no not extend into the mouth.
(image: a narwhal from above)
Narwhals are on the small side as far as whales go, growing to between 3.9 to 5.5 m (13 to 18 ft) excluding the tusk and reaching between 800 and 1,600 kg (1,760 to 3,530 lbs). They live in the Arctic and north Atlantic oceans, frequently sharing a neighborhood with their beluga cousins. They migrate seasonally, moving closer to shores during the summer and out to the sea ice in winter. Their winter behavior is notable as narwhals spend a lot of their time under the sea ice, surfacing in cracks to breathe. This is dangerous and many individuals will die of suffocation before they reach their average lifespan of 50 years. Narwhals also can dive up to 1,500 m (almost 5,000 ft) deep during their winter feeding, one of the deepest dives recorded among marine mammals. These dives can last for up to 25 minutes and can happen over 15 times a day. Narwhals feed primarily on cod, halibut, cuttlefish, and squid. Because of their mostly toothless mouths, narwhals are believed to hunt by sucking prey into their mouths and swallowing them whole.
(image: several narwhals at a breathing hole)
Like many other cetaceans, narwhals are highly social. They typically swim in pods of up to 20 individuals outside of the summer. These be mixed sex groups or could be separated nursery pods consisting of juveniles and adult females and all-male pods. During the summer, pods will come together in aggregations of up to over 1,000 narwhals. Communication is important in any social species and narwhals have that covered. Scientists have described multiple types of vocalizations including, clicks, whistles, knocks, trumpeting, and (I swear I didn't make this up) squeaking door sounds. Audio recordings have seen that groups share more sounds internally than with other groups, indicating possible group or individual-specific sounds. Females reach sexual maturity between 5 and 8 years old while males do so at 11 to 13 years old. One calf is born at a time in most cases and nurse for up to 20 months. During this time, they stay within 2 body lengths of their mother and learn their survival skills by observing her. DNA analysis has confirmed an instance of a narwhal-beluga hybrid.
(image: a narwhal pod seen from above)
Now for the part you're all here for: the tusk. The tusk is a modified tooth. Specifically, it is the left canine tooth, which grows out through the upper lip in a distinctive left-handed helical spiral and usually gets to be about 1/3rd the whale's body length. In 1 of 500 males, the right tooth may also grow into a second tusk. Narwhals are sexually dimorphic and the tusk is a male feature. Almost every male with grow a tusk while only 15% of females grow one. There is a single known instance of a female growing two tusks and its skull is currently housed in the Zoologisches Museum in Hamburg, Germany. The function of the tusk has been the subject of debate for quite a while. The leading hypothesis is that is is used for sexual display, like a deer's antlers or peacock's fail feathers. However, the tusk seems to have more uses than just that. The tusk is filled with millions of nerve endings, allowing it to act as a sense organ detecting water quality. Males are known to rub their tucks together or against the backs of other males. This may be a display of dominance, but may also be used to exchange sensory information about the water the other male has swum through. Video footage has revealed that narwhals will sometimes strike fish with the tusk, stunning the fish and making it easier prey. Other proposed functions of the tusk include as a weapon or used to create breathing holes in sea ice. The general consensus seems to be the tusk is primarily used for display and that any additional uses are secondary. The tusk cannot be vital to survival as the tuskless females typically live longer than males.
(Image: multiple narwhal tusks)
(image: a close-up of a narwhal skull showing the tusk)
A shitpost once asked the question "are narwhals nars or whals?". I actually can answer this question. The word narwhal comes from the old norse "nár" meaning corpse (a reference to the mottled grey skin of the whale) and "hval" meaning whale. "Hval" became "whal" as time when on and languages were translated. So Narwhal means corpse whale. Since narwhals aren't actually corpses, they are whals and not nars, at least until they die.
(image: a pod of male narwhals)
Narwhals are threatened by climate change due to the changing sea ice coverage in their territory. Noise from ships is also known to disrupt and disturb them. For a long time, they were classified as Nearly Threatened by the IUCN as the world population was estimated to be below 50,000. In more recent years, new estimates put the population at around 170,000, resulting in a reclassification to Least Concern. Narwhal, with her hair, which she wore in a twisted and tusk-like shape, becoming the tusk. Narhwal tusks are believed to have inspired the design of the unicorn horn in European art. One story of dubious veracity claims that an emperor of Rome was presented with a narwhal tusk imported from northern Europe and he declared that it was a unicorn horns have historically been hunted by the Inuit people and while there are international restrictions on the sale of tusks and other body parts, Inuit people in Canada and Greenland have special permission to hunt them. They are hunted for their meat, blubber, and tusks and vertebrae, which are often carved and sold. The raw skin and blubber is a delicacy called Muktuk. In Inuit mythology, narwhals did not originally have tusks. A woman harpooned a narwhal and was either pulled into the sea or pushed in, where she turned into a narwhal. Her hair, which she wore in a twisted, tusk-like style, became the tusk. Narwhal tusks are believed to have inspired the common image of a unicorn horn. One story of dubious veracity claims that a Roman emperor was shown a narwhal tusk and declared it to be a unicorn horn.

OK to Jynx Review?
While I'm not the biggest Jynx fan, Smoochum is okay. Jynx was always kind of a weird pick for a pre-evo, as it doesn't really feel like Smoochum's presence really enhances the line in any way, but it is nice to at least have one design here that isn't quite so questionable.
Visually, the pink and yellow palette is nice and there's a fair amount of emphasis on the lips, which makes sense as kissing things is Smoochum's entire deal. The hair is cute and has a nice shape to it as well. It's nothing all that memorable, and I'm personally not a huge fan of human-like baby Pokemon like this, but it's harmless.
Also, side note: Smoochum looks 10x cuter in its original GS art. The slightly wider body shape, inquisitive expression, and little buck tooth really make all the difference.
I've gone on record saying that Jynx is my all-time least favorite Pokemon and yeah, sorry, not a fan of this one.
Obviously the biggest problem here is its face, which is undeniably pretty racist and generally just uncomfortable. This is not helped by it being extremely human-like and vaguely sexualized, with the kissing thing and the chest. They did try to fix it a bit by giving it purple skin as opposed to the original pitch black color, which is slightly better—but purple's not that much different and they didn't really do anything to fix the face, so it's kind of a band-aid solution at best.
Speaking of which, I've noticed that most people try to justify Jynx's design with baseless speculation, which is weird because we know exactly why it's Like That. Here's a design from the beta version of Red and Green (the following information is courtesy of Helix Chamber):
This is either beta Jynx or a Pokemon closely related to it. Its name is Buu, which makes it obvious that it's based on the Ultraman monster Woo, which is A) female (note that Jynx is 100% female), B) a yeti-ish creature (hence the parka here and Jynx's inexplicable ice-typing), and C) a creature with a dark face:
There's no evidence to suggest that GameFreak meant any harm here, but that doesn't make either the beta design or Jynx itself less racist. Just kind of an unfortunate design all around.
Also, even putting that aside, there are just some other odd things with Jynx. It's abnormally humanoid, with hair, five fingers, a dress, and even boobs for some reason. I love humanoid 'mons, but this is a bit too much, and it's hard to see Jynx as something that lives out in nature normally. I also wish something in the final design reflected its ice-typing.
Here's a particularly good redesign that fixes most of my issues with Jynx but still feels like it captures the spirit of the original to some degree:
However, and this is going to sound weird: I think Jynx should get a regional.
Here me out: I get that GameFreak probably doesn't want to acknowledge Jynx too much, but a regional would be the perfect opportunity to redesign it— the regional could even be featured in place of regular Jynx going forward in things like the anime. There are some interesting elements to the design that you could play with—give it tentacles or fins and make it a water-type siren, make it normal-type and give it a viking theme, theme it after different kinds of dancing like Oricorio, etc.
Though on the bright side, Jynx's existence did at least give us one very pretty TCG card, so there's that much, at least:

Ash’s abandoned pokemon in the pokebeast au have to be the most protective and the most dangerous
Oh 100% and it’s not just the abandoned ones too.
Lapras is a beast on both the fields and the water, one of the few to actually be able to use ice moves on the field and move about on solid ground that way. Gaining almost like claw features on the end of their fins to be able to swing themselves around.

I have a lot of Thoughts wrt terastalization in the pokemon world and people. Mostly headcanons for fun and not anything serious . Gonna put em under a readmore bc its Long and bc theres spoilers for the end of sv in here 👍
Firstly: Tera crystal radiation and Terastalization itself
I headcanon that terastalization is some sort of magic radiation thing . A pokemons tera type is innate but can be changed (albeit rarely, and it takes a lot) and the terastalization process forces that to the front, making the pokemon appear more like its tera type. So like. In the pokemon world, i dont think terastalization looks like that . No big stupid hat. I think the pokemon just takes on some of the physical attributes of another pokemon that has the tera type as their main typing. So, my lapras has her tera type as steel. If i were to terastalize her, shed take on steel type attributes, maybe bisharp for example. Her fins would turn metallic like blades and her horn would get sharper. The shimmering sparkling of a terastalized pokemon is just residual tera energy hanging in the air like radiation particles in photos. However, these minor transformations and type changes take a lot of energy from both the pokemon and the tera orb. Hence only being able to terastalize once per battle and once per charge. Though i will say that i think that pokemon who consistently terastalize- like gym leader aces- will start to have those tera transformations stay in their normal forms
Secondly: Humans are pokemon.
This is hotly debated in the fandom and also within canon?? But. Imo humans are pokemon. The same way were animals. So it means. Every human has an innate tera type. As well. The only reason people dont notice and dont know is because 1: terastalizing like we see it can typically only be done with pokemon in pokeballs 2: even pokemon that terastalize outside of this dont do it for long (the random tera encounters) because again, it takes a lot of energy, and we can assume that wild pokemon have a trigger for terastalization the same way caught pokemon do. And, like other pokemon, humans will experience physical changes upon terastalizing
Thirdly: Area Zero
Using the radiation comparison is great for Area Zero where the air is described as being "weird". And you can see why when you get to the caves at the bottom of the area and see the massive tera crystals growing there. I think that area zero is the one place (with a couple of exceptions that are vaguely dlc spoilers, which i wont get into here) where humans can get close to- and actually- terastalize. With changes becoming more intense the deeper into the area you go . THAT SAID i have . Examples ♥️
1: at the top of area zero, where most of the crystals are still far away, you only feel mild tingling the same way someone would around a normal terastalized pokemon
2: going down towards the bottom is where things get Weird. Your skin would start to feel 'sparkly' And your eye color would change to match your tera type. Not smthn super noticeable but its There
3: in the cave itself your eyes Really change color and base body functions and instincts will shift to align with your tera typing. So, youre a grass tera youll want to be in the sun. If youre an ice tera you get cold to the touch, etc etc
4: at the bottom of the cave is where things get really fucky, and depending on how long youre down there you can start to see physical changes like fur/grass/metal growth, face shifting, etc etc. if youre in a building- like the lab stations or the massive lab itself- theres protection against the changes. But youll definitely start to see them if youre out with the giant crystals completely in the open
And a helpful little image guide ♥️
#vani verbals#i have More thoughts but those are dlc spoiler heavy so i figure this will do for now#idc if u . use these 4 anything but u shld @ me if u do bc i love to look at things ok. smiles#fun fact this is why i asked ppl what ice type id be. teehee

drabble -- mermaid au part 3
a little mer worldbuilding as they go through shoal cave
this is where i'd link the other parts but apparently, tumblr won't post it in the tags if there's a link! even to their own site! uuuugh
“So, how should I refer to you?”
“Hm? I told you my name was Steven.”
“No, I meant—” Wallace awkwardly broke off. How did one explain that since Steven’s species was so reclusive that nigh on nothing was known about them, including basic things like how to tell their genders apart? It certainly wasn’t a situation he had ever thought he’d be in. Maybe it was best if he just bluntly asked the question on his mind. “I meant, are you a boy or a girl?”
Steven stared at him.
Wallace stared back.
“I… hm. What are you?”
That reply probably should’ve thrown Wallace off, but it was honestly familiar to have someone questioning his gender. He’d made androgyny a large part of his Contest persona and it had certain side effects.
“Ah, a man.”
Steven beamed at him, their smile large and toothy. Their teeth were significantly pointier than any humans, though not to the point where they came off as threatening. “Right! Then I am too!”
Forgive Wallace for not entirely believing that statement. He was beginning to think mer didn’t have any genders at all. Or at least none that were similar to human genders. It wouldn’t be the first time—many Pokemon went without genders after all.
“So, he and him are fine?”
There was no comprehension behind Steven’s eyes. “Is that what you use?”
“They are.” Wallace couldn’t help the amusement in his voice. He’d never so clearly seen someone bullshitting their way through a topic they knew nothing about.
“Then it’s what I use as well!” His—as Wallace might as well oblige in his bullshittery—silvery fin smacked against Darius’s side. “Now, tell me more about the properties of ice…”

-- Hoenn Arc II: Travelling (18/Finale)
The next day, Leon saw himself off at his tired wife waving him good luck while also holding an excited Willow back, cheering her father on as loud as she could.
The first bout would see Leon versus Sidney, a dark-type specialist, and with his team, Leon overcame them despite the difficulty. The second bout would be against Phoebe, a ghost-type specialist, who gave him just as much trouble. Next, Glacia, a ice-type expert who put his pokemon through the ringer and had to have him take a bit to apply salves and let them rest before continuing onto Drake, the dragon-type specialist who Leon took down with far more ease then the previous three.
Able to face Steven, Leon wasted no time in a battle between champions beginning and while the fight was hard and fought well, Steven triumphed after he brought Leon's Urshifu down with his Metagross who had taken just as much of a beating. Despite the sting of defeat, Leon took the defeat for what it was and thanked Steven for the chance of battling him. Steven doing the same, Leon excited the League Hall and headed to find his wife catching up with an old friend of hers.
Being introduced to the lady who happened to be Steven's wife of all people, Ashe gave a cheeky grin at her husband, but it faded when she saw the gloom about him as it were. Thanking her friend for the time, Ashe excused herself with her daughter and went to talk with Leon about the results. Being as it were, things ended on a loss, but after a forehead touch, the relief they could finally go home was about them.
Taking another day to rest, the family were flown by taxi thanks to some strings pulled by Steven to Slateport where they'd be able to teleport back home thanks to Merlin, and bring an end to their journeys in Hoenn.
FIN.

Potential special wall... Cursed Body would help with that, but Stalwart is better for attackers... Maybe something that learns electric and water moves to take advantage of immunity to Lightningrod and Storm Drain? Electric/Water/Ice/Bug allows for no resisted attacks...
Replaces a bug move for a healing or status move on it's set?- would retain no resisted hits...
Some sort've bug related to the dead, maybe tied to alpine graves?

#achi's fakedex#'avalot' from 'avalanche' and 'maggot'#and 'bostbite' from 'botfly' and 'frostbite'#also has a hint of bumblebee in there#i think i like these guys#goes from a straight attacker to a more defensive 'let's setup' pokemon#don't think it'd be great in competitive but in-game...#give it a roost/no retreat/freeze-dry/ominous wind set and watch the little bug go#or maybe you keep it a cute little avalot 294 isn't too bad for a base stage#you wouldn't write your mother but it gets plenty of coverage and with a little tlc...

Doodle: one of those "change a letter, change its type" Pokemon drawing exercises! Psyduck and Golduck have become Isyduck and Colduck!
Isyduck suffers from near-constant brainfreeze, giving it a rather irritable temper. An Isyduck in the middle of a particularly severe episode will lash out at those who attempt to give it aid, leaving them with icy scratchmarks.
Colduck, like its subarctic relatives, is one of the fastest swimmers in its habitat. Thick icy plating on its head and claws allow it to tear through ice floes in its path--it cuts effortlessly through the ice like a hot knife through butter. When on land, it shatters its icy fins for better grip.
