Harry dealing with abuse trauma/people finding out about Dursley’s treatment

Ok so I didn’t know exactly how to word this particular genre of Harry Potter fanfiction, but I have been reading some fanfics where either the teachers, Sirius or the golden trio find out that Harry has been abused by the Dursley’s and how Harry deals or heals from that trauma. #cupboardreveal

so therefore below is a list of fanfics that deal with this topic, this is pretty obvious but TW for child abuse, some of these I haven’t read yet so i don’t think any of them feature active abuse, more so past abuse.

It’s honestly not an inappropriate comparison. One of the things I like about working with fundraisers is that they are fundamentally incapable of allowing things to be awkward. The best fundraisers are never at a loss for conversation and never make you feel uncomfortable -- it’s a very bond-suave kind of deal. For a person who is anxious about conversation and frequently awkward, it can be very soothing to know you’ll be in a meeting/sharing a cab/having a meal with a fundraiser. 

That said, it is funny watching them switch it on and off -- some of them are naturally charismatic but for some of them it’s a very specific act, and when they’re done with Being A Fundraiser they turn it off and turn into super hilariously awkward weirdos.

I sometimes wonder if becoming a manager turns you into a jerk or if biding your time to let your inner jerk flourish is a prerequisite for promotion. Take care of yourself and good luck.

I think it’s often a function of the company you work for -- if certain personality traits are valued by the company, certain people float to the top by specific virtue of being assholes. Self-promotion really does get one to the top a lot of the time and it’s generally a symptom of narcissism. One of our current senior managers is a delightful person who just works her ass off, and one of them is an incompetent asshole who is very good at kissing ass and throwing other people under the bus.

Holy shit, they cut you down from a 10 man to a 2 man team and *haven't even listed the positions yet????* Yikes and also I hope you find a better place soon!

Not quite that bad -- our 10 person department is down by four, but the department is split into two teams and unfortunately my team took the hit, so we are down from six to two. So we have six of 10 employees total, which isn’t awful, but my team is missing four of six. And since my team does much of the ACTUAL WORK while the other team mostly theorizes and writes white papers, it’s a struggle.  

It wasn’t a big deal when only one person was out, but we’ve had three leave within four weeks of each other, which is a pretty big deal, especially since one was a manager and one was a senior analyst like me. We’ll hold it together for a while, especially since the manager mostly shoved all her work off onto someone else and is thus not a huge loss, but if one more person leaves we’ll be in genuine trouble.

You did good. I have 120 tabs open right now.

Both of these comments gave me genuine cold sweats. My very specific brand of anxiety would never allow me either of those things. I have 5-10 pinned tabs at any given time but if I end the week with unpinned tabs I have to go through them and close them down or else I would just freak the fuck out. And I can’t deal with unread emails, I have to at least read them.

Alright who's got happy headcanons? Or had a...

Clint reads. A LOT. He could hold his own against most of the non-super-genius level Avengers, and follow along better than most with the geniuses. Most people wouldn’t know, though, because he borrows all his science and history books from the library, or buys cheap copies and donates them to the library when he’s done.

He starts reading as a kid after his dad ruins his hearing. It’s hard to follow the TV shows Barney watches when he only catches every few words, and when he’s absorbed in a book (and blanketed in silence) it’s easy to pretend he’s somewhere far, far from home.

He keeps it up in the circus, grabbing books wherever he can. He exchanges books in every town he goes, or will read whatever book is cheapest (it’s amazing how many science heavy texts he finds in the 25cent bin). 

Despite the fact that he can read/follow almost any academic test, he doesn’t really trust his understanding of it because he was never formally trained in any field.

Also also also I’m dying over the image of Bruce finding Clint reading some really dense book about relativity and getting so excited to have someone to talk to besides Tony. (Tony is great, obviously, but Clint has a really grounded and weird way of viewing abstract concepts that is totally different from how Bruce and Tony approach things).

Summary: It makes perfect sense, of course. The serum gave Steve the perfect body, so why wouldn’t it also give him the perfect mind? (Or: the one where Steve is smarter than Tony, and neither of them deal well.)

Summary: Something went really, really wrong during the super soldier experiment. I did log into dreamwidth earlier - after a password rescue because I couldn’t remember my login - so I *could* get back and post on there, but since it’s been five years I think everyone has given up on me. Possibly any posts I make there are worse than shouting into the void?

...I’m hoping Pillowfort is back up soon, but if not I will probably give dw another go though. If I do it will still be under the Patelyne account, I won’t make a new one.

Hey, I saw a copy of the Wild Unknown tarot deck in my local bookstore, and I thought of you. How are things?

Things are okay? Tiring, but okay. We just came home from New Zealand, after two and a half weeks overseas, and just this morning my brother and his family moved out of this house and got on the road for their cross-state relocation. So for the first time in about six weeks, our house is free of kids. It’s brilliant. An absolute tip, but brilliant. It’s so quiet. So much cleaning to do, but I have the time and the space to do it now. I plan on attacking each room in turn and having lots of uninterrupted baths.

Aside from that, my computer and phone both just died in quick succession, so I have new devices to set up to my desired specs, all while I catch up on months of overdue tv and movie watching and knit something for myself for once.

I’m exhausted, broke, and have about seven hundred things to do before I can breathe (somewhat) easily, but I know I can do it, given enough time. So my attitude and mood is okay I guess? But I’m not starting on the bulk of it until later. Not today. I have a migraine. So, knitting and Once Upon A Time is is.
