How did you start posting du Drow? I would love to post about my own tavs but I feel like I’d be infodumping into the void. Did you start with art and questions came later, or did you just drop a full backstory and continue adding on? (Obsessed with your guy btw, the angst you write is so good)

I mean, aren't we all "info-dumping into the void" until something happens?

It was definitely the art that caught people's attention first, and for some baffling reason many folks were ALSO interested in his backstory and my writing once I started posting small bits about it. I think it has a little bit to do with him falling outside of some commonalities from the time - he was a big buff dude, his formative "bhaalspawn" relationship was Orin rather than Gortash, and I'm at least told that my characterization of Astarion and his relationship with him is a little "unique", though I couldn't tell you why exactly... In all likelihood, that is just something that every artist gets in their own inboxes from the people who resonate with their personal characterizations!

If you want my honest opinion, I think it's a lot of "luck". I know I'm a talented artist and at the very least a competent amateur writer, but MANY people are, too, and not all of them manage to garner an audience - no wonder so many artists (myself included) feel as if they have stumbled into the limelight by complete accident.

That said, i think its always a good idea to be passionate, and I think that really resonates with people - either because they are passionate themselves, or because they wished they could be - I've had a lot of folks (politely) ask me how can I not be embarrassed about posting the art that I make or being so into dissecting the lives and creating narratives for these fictional characters, saying that that's what holds them back from diving into their own creativity... What that says to me is that a lot of people aren't really putting everything that they have to offer out there, or do so with a lot of palpable reluctance/insecurity that, unfortunately, does tend to be very off-putting.

Sorry for the ramble, I feel as if this wasn't super helpful... But I think a point that can be drawn from it is that there isn't really any reason not to share your work and thoughts, as that seems to be the only true commonality among people who do find a following to entertain and share their ideas with!

Okay, this is a really long one, so BUCKLE UP.

In the script, she's described as a tomboy (from what I've heard), but I've also read some hcs that she actually likes presenting fem, but that's just a hc (edit: this is actually canon, the tomboy style is a defence mechanism -> reblog by @specific-dreamer :)). She's very bold and will tell anyone what she thinks. She's more likely to show them, though; in Friday at the drive-in, she pushes Bob off of the tire, in Tulsa '67, she very openly flips off the socs... I don't know if we have any info on her family??? (Edit: we do, @specific-dreamer added on in the reblog :))

Almost all the greaser boys are always doing lifts with her or carrying her or whatnot. She doesn't mind either. She's always having fun. They all respect her, too.

She's friends with Dally. In the scene where they all come together after Ponyboy got jumped, she did a sort or handshake with him, so I feel like they get along fine.

She has this flirty friendship with Soda. People always wonder if they're joking or not (they are). For example, after Soda's verse in Grease Got A Hold (which was all about getting girls), he says: "Ain't that right, Ace?" and she answers with: "You wish." and shakes her ass a bit. I feel like they call each other the worst sappy pet names just to piss the other off.

Anyway, Ace and Darrel. Darrel is the most gentlemanly of the greasers. Everyone's respectful, but him especially. I think that out of everyone, Ace is the only person Darrel allows himself to be a bit more at ease with. During Hoods Turned Heroes, he lifts her up, and he's smiling. He also helps her onto the greasers' car when she could easily do it herself. A few other examples bc I love them to death: during Grease Got A Hold, she yells: "I love you, Superman!" at Darrel, at the end of Hoods Turned Heroes, she jumps on his back... I can't really explain their friendship, but I love them sm.

Two-Bit and Ace!!! In my opinion, they're kind of like Ace and Soda, except their friendship more on the physical side (dancing together, cuddling under the bench at the drive-in...). It's not really flirting. Their love language is just physical touch. (They're besties, your honour.)

We don't have that much info on musical!Steve or Ace in general, so I don't have much to say about them. I'm not saying they aren't great friends. They are. She's leaning on him during GGAH, he throws her to Two-Bit in FATDI...

With Ponyboy, she shares a couple high-fives and a little twirl in Tulsa '67. I don't really have much more. I'm sorry. She doesn't really have any moments with Johnny (I think?).

Finally, romantic interests. Tilly (Ace's actress) has told us that Ace has a big fat crush on Bev/Beverly (a soc girl they added). Bev hates Ace, though. So, yeah... My personal hc is that they were friends as kids, grew up and developed crushes on each other in like middle school, dated secretly for a while, but then Bev broke it off because, as a soc, she can't be dating greasers. So, now she hates Ace and all greasers bc she's petty like that (no bev hate). I would talk about them more, but this post is already way too fucking long, so I'll end it here.

Prologue thoughts!

Of course it was wonderful getting to see Skordo, Gabrielle, and Vanus again since they are some of my favorite characters. It's clear that the voice actors for Skordo, Gabrielle, and Vanus haven't done these voices for awhile because the delivery of all 3 of them was slightly different (no hate to them or the directors because I probably only noticed this because I'm autistic about this game) but it drove me a little nuts until I got used to it by the very end of the quest lol. I prefer the old inflections for Skordo and Gabrielle but I think I really liked Vanus's voice acting here actually. I think it fit him better. It's a better mix of annoying and mature rather than mostly annoying lol. I feel like they were all written a little differently too (most noticeable with Skordo), although that isn't too surprising because I imagine at this point they are being written by different writers. I'll probably hold off on my full opinions on their writing until we get the full story though.

Oh also they finally decided on how Vanus's name is pronounced and now it's consistent (in the base game it was the American van-us or vahn-us depending on the voice actor). At the exchange of Gabrielle's name now having two pronunciations lmao

I loved the new Mages Guild outfits! Wow they looked so good (especially compared to the old ones, which have been some of my least favorite in the game)!! Vanus's new hair cut was cute too! I guess he was feeling nostalgic.

I'll admit, I'm a but apprehensive about the writing. There wasn't anything bad in the prologue or anything, and it's hard to put my finger on, but I think having characters who haven't been featured in years really highlighted how the general writing style has changed a bit. I think because I like these characters and it's exciting for them to finally go back to the Worm Cult and Molag Bal storyline I feel like my hopes are a lot higher than if this was a disconnected original story. Like, I really want the storyline to be good, so I'm more worried that it won't be. I'll have to save that opinion for when it comes out though.

This is random but the flashy effects on the enemies were kinda blinding. I'm not usually bothered by the effects in this game but WOW that final battle hurt my eyes. I've always agreed with the there feedback that needs to be a way to turn off some of the flashy effects for those with photosensitivity issues, but now I really think it should probably be a bit more of a priority.

Anyway, my theories/predictions!

So there was a note (I think it was in the underground Mages Guild area?) that briefly mentions that the Wormies are in Northern Rivenspire for the Remnant, which I assumed was referring to the Lightless Remnant. Unfortunately I don't think the prologue stuff has been added to UESP yet so I can't find what it exactly said so maybe I misunderstood, but I thought that they were going to address that Verandis returning from Coldharbor in Markarth might've caused an issue with whatever deal he made with Bal over the Lightless Remnant. They didn't really do anything with that nugget of info so maybe it was just supposed to be a reference or maybe they'll go somewhere with it? I mostly just wanted to point it out since I haven't seen anyone else do it.

Among the mortals of the enemies we fight in this one that make up the new Worm Cult, almost all (if not all? I didn't pay that close of attention) of them were Argonians or Khajiit. That's interesting. I mean, given we will be going to an island off the coast of Black Marsh it makes sense there will be a lot of Argonians among their ranks, but the prevalence of Khajiit is interesting too.

From poking around it looks like I'm not the only one who thought of this, but I wonder if this story is building up to Vanus and Mannimarco's final battle at the end? Us killing Mannimarco in the Main Quest already kinda screwed up that part of their timeline since he was originally supposed to die (and become a lich I believe?) in his final battle with Vanus, but maybe they'll end this storyline with that battle and have him come back as a lich for it? If they do go with that, we might be seeing Vanus die.

^ on the note of returning characters dying, there sure are a lot of them in this upcoming story. I bet one of them is gonna die. I don't have a reason to think this it's just a vibe.

Skordo and Gabrielle will be major characters... going up against Molag Bal (maybe)... Meridia looking temple... screaming crying throwing up. Don't tease me ZOS. Where is he!!!

I originally hadn't planned on going to Stage/Fright's closing show. Tried to tell myself that I couldn't afford it, and it's not like they'd do stage door afterwards, and I didn't need to see it again, and trying to make peace with that.

I slowed down on S/F posting over the last few weeks because I was reeling a bit from being Perceived by Reddit/C&B and the accompanying judgement there/across the wider fandom on different platforms. I can be quite naive and forget that other people don't subscribe to the same Let People Enjoy Things philosophy, and also really enjoy the Let's Speculate On People's Motives And Actions So We Can Make Shit Up To Get Angry About game. Started moving the more archival things over to @fuckyeahstagefright as you know.

But in the end, I made it. And I'm so glad I did.

Being in that room, so full of other people who adore Reece and Steve and their body of work and the love letter that is Stage/Fright was so, so special. Spending time before and after the show with a group of people who I would otherwise never have met made things extra magical and emotional.

Thanks to @somuchwatersoclosetohome I was able to sit in the second row (right behind the front row seat I had for my first viewing!) I was sat with @varneysfangs, who was the most delightful seat buddy I could ask for. I loved being able to look over and giggle/gasp/sigh at various points. And in front of us was @spcvarney and her partner - and it was lovely to watch your reactions close up! Honestly there were times when I just wanted to reach out and grab your shoulder and be like "I know!!!"

Rounding off the Delusional Bitches (affectionate) it was a thrill to meet @vagueeyes, @misskite and Arin and to spend a bit more time with @donotbelasagne

And most of all thank you to @silverview - I've said this over and over again, but it was your incredible writing that inspired me to start writing my own IN9 fanfics, which was one of the things that gave me the push to get off my arse and set up @unreesonable, which has led to me connecting with the fandom on Tumblr and so none of this would have happened if it weren't for you!

When I started hyperfixating on Inside No 9/Reece last year, I bought myself a Stage/Fright ticket wondering "will I still even be interested by the time this show starts?" How little I knew.

After the show, after the final stage door, we gathered by the yellow number 9 door opposite the Wyndham's and I started crying. Not because I was sad about the end of the West End run, but because I was there with these people.

I'm a late diagnosed autistic with a high ACE score, of course I'm socially anxious. I've had decades internalising the message that Nothing I Do Is Good Enough and I'm Too Weird/Awkward for people to like or care about, that any joy I try to express is Too Much, that I need to apologise for geeking out or caring about things, that nothing I say has any value. So I tend to lurk, listen, observe and not take part.

The fact that I can be enthusiastic about IN9/Reece stuff, and listen/watch you all be enthusiastic in return, and share in this with everyone supporting and encouraging each other without judgment or scorn, was honestly so overwhelming. That there are people who appreciate and even enjoy my digital dumpster diving and archiving and all the tidbits of info and facts and connections stored in the Wiki of my brain, means so so much to me.

It's been a crazy chapter of my life. I pushed my body too hard and I definitely spent too much money. There was always the chance that they'd go on tour but until that was confirmed I had to work on the assumption that this could be my only/last opportunity to see R&S together on stage.

I will see some of you again for Hullowe'en and the Autumn Tour closing night in Edinburgh! (*I still think/hope they'll extend the tour at least to add dates for South West and Wales venues). I've said this before - but if anyone feels like making the trip to Sunderland for any of the shows then I will look after you 🖤

The Apothecary Diaries LN3 Thoughts - Ch12-13

LN 3: Prologue-ch2 - ch3-5 - ch6-8 - ch9-11

Just two chapters this time! They're both really interesting chapters in terms of in terms of world building, fleshing out the history of Li as a country and providing little nugget of info regarding the Royal Family - whether it's about the past rulers, or the current ones.

I genuinely love how much lore dropping LN3 and from this point onward it just keeps giving and giving until the end. For now, let's just see what the next two chapters bring eh?

(Warning: These thoughts may contain spoilers from later light novels all the way up until LN15.)

Chapter 12 - Shrine of Choosing

I feel like a lot of people enjoy this chapter for the JinMao implications, and I do too, but the bigger highlight for me is the answer to the mystery! It's funny because I grew up with a medical background so I usually really dislike medical dramas, but taking modern medical knowledge and throwing it into the context of the past always fascinates me a bit. I'm always like "wow, what a clever way to depict this modern medical thing we now understand!" and this is another great example of that.

Anyway, passages which I highlighted before we get to the real meat of the chapter:

1) I find the history of Li really interesting. It doesn't have any huge relevance to the overall plot, but I like how it builds up the world and adds a bit more depth to the politics that occur.

2) Jinshi and Maomao spying on the class is so cute. I can already picture how they'd animate it <3

3) More imperial family world building - again, we love to see it!

And finally, the meat of the chapter:

Appropriate response from Maomao. It's pretty obvious that the Emperor specifically wanted Jinshi and Maomao to go through the shrine together, but I wonder what his overall line of thought was. Clearly it was meant to be a test, but what was he planning to do afterwards once they succeeded? Was he eventually going to use this moment as a way to convince Jinshi to accept the position as royal heir? Was this just a test to see if Maomao would be an appropriate partner for his sons affections?

I also find it amusing how Maomao is just like "of course Jinshi would be here, he officiates ceremonies" without actually asking why Jinshi does that. Maomao please. The evidence is literally slapping you in the face.

1) I wonder what Jinshi thinks about this. He's clearly taking this very seriously. I genuinely wonder what the Emperor told him about why he's doing this.

2) This specific eunuch is also such an interesting character. I can't remember if he ever comes back in any significant way, but he has such a strong personality. He works for the royal family, but clearly does not necessarily bow down to them and knew exactly what to say to get Maomao going. What a sneaky guy.

Maomao being the genius she is always gets to me, but again, I just really like the answer to this mystery and how it connects back to the royal bloodline. Colour blindness, inherited from the maternal line which is foreign blood, and then too much inter-marrying to retain the gene which made it easier for the royal line to die out. I know I've mentioned before reasons why Consort Lihua wasn't picked as Empress, but this is definitely meant to be the main one - at the end of the day she's just too close to the family line.

(Don't worry Maomao, it's not you the Emperor is having a laugh at.)

Jinshi was probably a heart beat away from having an aneurysm. It's one thing for Maomao to question whether the Emperor is making a joke given he is the Emperor, but it's another thing entirely for Jinshi to take him seriously. Jinshi, please. You know the type of women your "brother" likes and Maomao is definitely not up to par.

It's also just funny that the Emperor is aware of Jinshi's little (humongous) crush. If you think about it, Jinshi probably doesn't actually meet with the Emperor that often and when he does I bet it's mostly to talk about the rear palace - Maomao shouldn't really come up in conversation. This leads me to believe Lady Gyokuyou has been sharing the hot gossip and I find this possibility absolutely hilarious.

And once again we have Maomao taking the path to ignorance. What the eunuch said is so curious though - I guess this is foreshadowing the court's displeasure towards the Emperor choosing Lady Gyokuyou instead of Lady Lihua, but for Jinshi I presume this is just a general warning that people will try to target those around him whom he cares for.

Now for JinMao fans this is a big chapter because there's the big question of is this entire chapter foreshadowing the eventual conclusion to their future - Jinshi becoming Emperor with Maomao at his side.

As someone who is in the camp of Jinshi becoming Emperor is the Bad Ending, reading this chapter again..., instead of seeing this chapter as foreshadowing, I read it more as a nudge to help the Emperor figure out how to effectively navigate the current political climate. The Emperor himself has failed the shrine multiple times on his own so far, while Jinshi is only able to "succeed" with the assistance of a partner who was able to use her intelligence to solve the puzzle - not her bloodline.

As Maomao mentions, part of the reason the royal family is in decline may be due to trying to hard to protect the colour blind gene. Maomao being able to solve the puzzle through just her intelligence breaks this--and I feel like this may be what causes the Emperor to decide to elevate Lady Gyokuyou. Wisdom over bloodline purity. Someone who can bring change rather than sticking to the same old traditions of the past.

Chapter 13 - The Empress Dowager

The pay off to this joke is so funny. It's truly moments like these that make me appreciate The Apothecary Diaries so much. It's something that genuinely has no plot relevance, but is such a fun way to build up the world and Maomao's character.

I also think it's so funny that Maomao is so affronted by the wrong accusation that she personally goes to hunt down Shisui just to prove that it wasn't her. She's so offended.

The oddities around Shisui just keep piling up don't they.

I am screaming at Maomao just casually giving Jinshi's stuff away. I mean yeah Jinshi probably has 5000 beautiful expensive handkerchief's and doesn't need it back, but like... I love how she isn't even concerned about whether Jinshi would care or not. And I love that she knows him well enough now to know he probably wouldn't even care to ask for it back.

We have mysteries upon mysteries. I do like how as the series has progressed, Natsu-sensei begins balancing both one off cases and grander, larger mysteries that get their pay off a few books later more and more.

Maomao is truly a cat meeting another cat and being like "This isn't me >_>", except it totally is her. She is so lucky she doesn't live in the era of smart phones because she can pretend she doesn't act as unhinged as Shisui when she is in the vicinity of rare medicinal herbs. Maomao, you literally climbed onto Jinshi's desk when he suggested giving you an ox bezoar. You are absolutely just as deranged if not even more.

Lots of juicy details in this short exchange. One is something that is only fun in hindsight as a re-reader - "Why are you hiding?" Why indeed.

The second is Maomao realizing that she has completely stopped treating Jinshi with any of the respect that is typically required. When I first read this line I see it as somewhat self-deprecating humour, she says it but we know she isn't going to follow through on it. When I consider upcoming events in this novel though, I realize Maomao is actually being pretty serious with herself in this moment. She actually does want to maintain the boundary, even if she keeps failing at it.

This is one of those moments where I really grew to love and appreciate the way Natsu-sensei approaches the world of The Apothecary Diaries.

You have her introduce a character, the Empress Dowager, kindhearted, brought about revolutionary changes meant to better the world... and in other stories I feel like the narrative would end here. She would be showered with praise, everything is great, slavery is gone, just like how things are in our modern world, woot woot. But it doesn't end here.

I feel like that question - "What constitutes slavery" and the following "the practice had simply changed its name and adapted to new social standards" is especially hard hitting in the present when I look at what's happening in the USA/Canada, where class inequality just keeps growing and growing and growing. People might not be slaves by the traditional definition, but a lot of people definitely aren't "free" either when they're chained to their shitty jobs to basically stave off homelessness. "Corporate slaves" is a term that exists and it exists for a reason. The problem didn't just fix itself, it just changed and morphed into something else and there are still so many things we could and should be doing to make the world a better place.

Unfortunately, even when kind people like Anshi exist to bring about revolutionary change, if you push too hard sometimes it will create backlash and I have seen that even within my own province.

Moving on:

1) Maomao? Actually being put to work? Say it ain't so!

2) Loooove this detail in characterization for Lady Gyokuyou. But also, we get a name to the Empress Dowager!

3) More interesting world building details regarding the inter-connected web between Suiren and the royal family.

4) A reminder into Maomao's cautious nature.

Aaaaand the chapter ends with this tiny little bomb - WN spoilers but... Anshi really believes in her curses doesn't she.

I genuinely wonder how Anshi got the idea to come to Maomao. Was it a direct suggestion by Suiren or Jinshi, or was it something she thought of on her own just by hearing about Maomao? It's hilarious to remember Maomao from LN1 just wanting to keep her head down, have no one notice her, and now the Empress Dowager is personally coming to ask her for help. This poor girl.

Also, I think it's interesting how this chapter was called "The Empress Dowager" even though she only appears at the end and you don't actually get that much of her character--you mostly just get Maomao's observations of her. And then next chapter, which arguably characterizes Anshi even more is titled after the former Emperor.

Anyway - we shall end here for today because the next chapter is a Big One and this post is already long enough as it is.

My hobbies are writing, reading, art in general, and video games. For my interests, I adore writing, and am going to Uni for creative writing. I'm big into fantasy writing, and my interests reflect that; Final Fantasy XVI and Elden Ring are my favorite games. I also like Minecraft, the Sims 4, and Resident Evil. Other random things: My favorite flower is forget-me-not; my sense of style is anywhere from frat boy to academic to divorced dad; I'm pretty messy (adhd lol); axolotls are my favorite animal.

Kurt Wagner (Nightcrawler) (I felt that Kodi Smit-McPhee's Kurt was a pretty perfect fit, in my opinion.) -

You first meet Kurt during your early days at the X-Mansion, when you’re just starting out as a student.

At first, you’re a little unsure of what to expect; being surrounded by so many different mutants can be a bit overwhelming, but Kurt’s presence is calming and comforting.

He’s often found in the library, reading or sketching, which is how you first start talking.

One day, you find yourself seeking quiet in the same corner of the library, flipping through a book.

Kurt, ever the curious soul, notices you and shyly approaches. "Ah, I see you like to read too," He says with a small smile, his thick accent making his words sound almost musical.

You exchange a few words about the book you’re reading, and that’s how it begins.

Kurt is naturally observant and kind, and while it takes a little while for him to open up fully, he starts to recognize you around the mansion.

Over time, the two of you begin to chat more often - about books, about life, about the world outside the mansion.

His thoughtful nature and dry sense of humor draw you in, and soon enough, you're both fast friends.

Kurt is the type of friend who’s always there to cheer you on.

When you’re working on a difficult project or stuck in a creative slump, he’s right by your side with a comforting word or a silly joke to lighten the mood.

Kurt would occasionally read to you from one of your favorite books, doing his best to get into character with different voices, even if it’s a bit exaggerated.

so I've heard in the past that some members of the band have hinted at not being 100% straight and richard has given hints at wanting to know what it's like to be a woman, could you please give me some sources to those since I've looked everywhere and can't really find them? thank you, if not, it's totally understandable

Well, the most recent 'hint' was Flake's podcast with topic 'gay/lesbian' where he mentioned that the topic came up one evening when the band were chatting and it turned out they all had their experiences 🥰

Rammstein is imo a band who has always been very 'inclusive' in any sexual preferences, and especially in Till's lyrics you can tell he is very interested in anything out there (not that that makes him 'not straight' (to be honest, i think he is, by some other quotes in interviews 😊) but i wouldn't be surprised if he tried some stuff somewhere in life).

Richard did an 2010 interview in Canada (don't have a link to the original, just this transcript) where he was quoted (about 'Mann gegen Mann')

"Actually, Till showed the lyrics to our Gay community, to our friends, just to make sure, because if you talk about something that you not really are, it's always kind of hard. Sometimes you cross the line, you don't think about it, but it could be offensive. If you do something because it's your experience, it's fine, but if you write something and you're not actually a part of it, I think you should make sure that everything you want to say is right. So he gave the lyrics to some friends, and they were very approving."

Which sort of confirms that they don't see themselves as gay so much. Also in interviews where they were asked 'are you gay', they usually end up with 'no'... interestingly, i don't think i've seen an interview where an interviewer explicitely asked 'are you bisexual' 🌺 (by the way, i would be really surprised if Richard hadn't some experience with a guy when he was younger, i vaguely remember he alluded to such in a really old interview, but i don't have a link).

Richard indeed has expressed ideas about his feminine side several times, in the interbiew above he says for instance

"If you talk to me right now, I'm a big believer in getting myself in balance between the female and the male side. I have a female side too, obviously."

And very striking was in several interviews ca 2021 after he did the cover 'Always on my mind' with Till for the Emigrate album 'The Persistence of Memory' and then made it a duet, stating:

"I mean, obviously, Till has also this very characteristic voice. And then it was pretty fast. He recorded one day. And then I was listening to it, and I felt a little bit that his performance was a little bit too male-oriented. So I felt I need a little female touch to it. So that’s why my personality came in. And I think it’s a good combination"

So he felt a female touch was needed, and added his own voice to Till's track 🥰

This might sound like an odd question but I’m planning on making my own comic at some point and I was wondering if you had any advice? Specifically in making the plot, deciding what each character does and maybe panel/page composition and how to make harmonious colour palettes?

Also one more question but when you were at the beginning of developing Stray Souls did you post little lore/plot snippets and character doodles/info or did you mainly wait until the comic was out?

(Sorry I know this is a lot but I was just wondering sort of what your process is because everything seems so seamless and well-put-together :> )

Ehh first of all the seamless and put-togetherness is an illusion 🫠

A lot of my work is built organically (fancy way of saying I just sorta wing it) and very dependent on what makes me excited at each given point. Generally, I come up with an idea for a character or a plot point and from there start branching out.

Say, I create character A. A needs a story so I create some beats for them, a beginning-middle-end type thing. While thinking of this, characters B, C, etc pop up as placeholders/devices for A's story, and the world gets shaped around it as well. Then suddenly something in the world gets decided that in turn changes A's story a little, and so on. Then I go into B, C, etc and do the same thing (build a story, let it bleed into the world and let the world bleed into it).

There's pros and cons to this sort of thing of course. Most of the time I over-develop characters or world bits that are completely unnecessary and clutter the narrative (especially when it's something like a comic, where things need to be explained visually and economically), and because of this sort of chaotic process I also tend to get entangled in my own concepts and lose track of my main threads. I don't dislike it entirely so it's just a matter of figuring out what works best for your own goals and processes.

Some general advice for comics that I've learned from trial and error: try stripping your story down to its bare bones and see what you absolutely need VS what's there for flavour or added context. Only add flavour once you're sure you can tackle the minimum, both in writing and artwise. Keep your character designs simple if you value your hands lol. It's fun to design complicated details but you WILL get tired of drawing them after a while. Sometimes it's ok to tell and not show 🤷‍♂️ if you're a one-man team sometimes you just gotta bite the bullet. Bear in mind that long stories will take YEARS to complete in comic format. Not an end all be all, but you do need to think about that. Also just go for it once you've got a structure you feel good about. I personally don't like over planning and don't even script things, so I don't think you need to have everything on paper before getting some chapters rolling. Most of what I've learned about comics has been making them, not thinking about making them. Oh, and readers tend to be more lenient than we give them credit for - if you're passionate enough about your world or characters, chances are at least some people will be interested regardless of whether you think art or writing are up to par

As for the other question, I spoiled the shit out of stray souls before launching it and still kinda do it for fun LMAO. Nothing too serious ofc but I've always loved giving people an insight into characters and world outside of the comic since the comic itself is a little peek into the whole thing. It also kinda serves to keep people interested imo

"Are you sure you want to date this guy?" Sabo stepped into your room crossing his arms, "You were getting along with Zoro so well."

"Can you zip me up?" you turned your back to him, "Zoro is great and everything but he's young and doesn't need an old lady like me holding him back. I'm sure now that he knows how old I am he thinks I'm just desperate to have a husband and pop out a couple of brats."

Sabo scoffed tugging your zipper over your still bruised back, "That's why you should get to know each other right? Prove the desperate 30-something stereotype wrong."

"I've been here before remember James? It's fine. It was just a little crush." you turned straightening out your purple cotton dress, "How do I look?"

"Beautiful as always." he sighed.

"You always were my favorite." you winked ruffling his blond waves, "Don't tell the others."

This was your third date with the doctor. You got along surprisingly well and could sit and talk for long periods of time without awkward silences. He had moments where he could be a bit too honest but you found it a little endearing. 

"You look nice." his smooth voice complimented as you reached the bottom stair. 

"It's nice to have your hard work acknowledged."

"I'm sure you hardly had to try." he smirked. 

"Ugh," Ace gagged, "can you just go already please?" 

"Shut it." you snapped flicking his nose. 

"So, you haven't said what's on the agenda today." You murmured carefully sliding into the passenger seat of Law's '68 Super Bee. 

"Well, the last two dates were a little too stuffy...you know I'm still learning your preferences," the classic engine roared to life, "I thought today could be a little more low key. I know a great sushi place."

"Still sounds fancy." you noted glancing at him.

"It's a cozy little place, trust me you'll be comfortable there." 

"My comfort is in your hands then." you chuckled. 

It was a short drive to the small restaurant, you were still amazed by how much this town had changed since you moved away.

It was indeed a quaint family run restaurant, Law seemed to know the owners. You took your time to eat and talk, finding conversation topics quite easily. Law sort of put up a stern cold front, but you found him to be interesting, funny and warm. It did worry you a bit that despite his looks and personality you hadn't really swooned over him the way you had with Zoro. The greenette had done absolutely nothing and completely swept you away, Law on the other hand was actually putting in effort and nothing. Well, not nothing, you definitely liked him you just wondered how much of it was genuine. 

"F/N-ya?"

"Hm?" you hummed watching a smattering of stars become visible in the oncoming night sky. 

His phone rang interrupting whatever he'd intended to say. 

"Yes... Yes," he sighed glancing at you, "I'll be there as quickly as I can." 

"Duty calls?" you guessed. 

"Unfortunately, one of my patients may need another emergency surgery. Worse, I don't have time to drop you off." 

"It's fine. I'll just Uber or something." you gave his shoulder a weak pat. 

Once you'd arrive at the hospital, Law kissed your forehead a told you he'd text you later. You took a seat on a bench after slipping into your sweater and opened your Uber app to order a ride. It only took a few seconds to confirm your trip as someone was near by, you didn't even bother reading the driver info and put your phone in your purse waiting for the marked car. Not even five minutes later a black F-150 pulled up with an Uber sticker in the window. 

"Is everything ok?" A familiar voice called as you stood. 

"You're my Uber?" you scoffed at the irony. 

"Helps make ends meet." Zoro reached across the seat opening the door from the inside, "You didn't answer my question."

"Oh, yeah everything is fine. I was just hanging out with a friend who works here." you cringed at yourself for that one. 

Why were you even compelled to not be truthful?

"Well, you look nice for just hanging out in the hospital." he watched you climb into the cab and buckle up a light flush dusting your cheeks at his compliment. 

"I look nice compared to the last time you saw me looking like a beat up trash person." you chuckled trying to deflect. 

"No, you are a nice looking trash person too." 

You blushed harder. Since when was he a flirt? 

"Speaking of beat up, your face healed nicely." 

"Yeah, thanks for the medicine. It really helped." he breathed, "How's your back?"

"Ugh," you groaned, "still bruised and sore but it's getting better."

"Good. If you ever wanna pay Kid back let me know."

"Nah, you heard Pops. It's best to just move on." you frowned as you turned down your driveway. 

The truck came to a stop behind Thatch's car. 

"Wanna come in for a bit... the guys probably wouldn't mind a surprise hang." 

What were you thinking? You're dating someone. 

"I can't, I haven't met my goal for the night." he declined as you opened the door. 

What was he thinking? This was his chance!

"Have a good night then." you smiled.

"You too."

"Why is Zoro bringing you home from your date with Law?" Sabo inquired from the porch where he sat in the rocking chairs with his new girlfriend. 

"Well, hello to you too baby brother," you sneered and turned toward the brunette at his side with a smile, "Hey Al." 

"Hey F/N." she replied smiling sweetly. 

"And if you must know, Law got called in for an emergency and Zoro just happened to be my Uber driver." you reached for the door.

"So he just left you somewhere?" the blonde clicked his tongue. 

"It was an emergency Sabo, he couldn't make a patient wait. I went to the hospital with him and was safe the entire time." you ruffled his hair, "Though it's nice that you still worry. You two don't stay out too late you'll catch a cold."

"You're back early." Ace commented as you entered the house. 

"Yeah yeah," you waved him off and slouched up the stairs. 

As you got undressed and started to braid your hair your phone pinged in your purse.

i feel like ST is the most parasocial fandom I’ve ever been in, especially when it comes to like show/film fandoms as music fandoms are another story. Do you get that sense too? I wonder if it’s mainly because lots of people grew up with the actors? The only other real comparison I can think of would be like Harry Potter, but from what I recall, people weren’t nearly as parasocial with the actors?

Idk, I was young then, so maybe they were. But my understanding is that most of the intensity was directed at the brand itself, not the actors as much? ST just feels different. But maybe it’s largely due to the role of social media? Maybe that’s just how things are now? But I feel like I’ve been in other fandoms in this era and nothing’s quite like the stranger things fandom.

Also irt Millie, I feel like she has the craziest stans which doesn’t help. I’m sure she’s a nice person in real life but her fans see her as the Queen Bee for mean straight girls and it’s odd

Yeah, it was a bit of a shocker when I jumped ship and started actively browsing this fandom. I've been in wild fandoms before, but never this odd and obsessive about the actors. I love celebrities and I love Hollywood but I've never been one to track their every movement and thought and post so it's been an adjustment even, what, two years into this sometimes delightful sometimes frustrating mess? I've always had a strained relationship with social media and wow oh wow does this fandom love itself some social media. I think there's just a lot of emotional investment into every aspect of the fandom and just maybe a bit of a healthy distance is needed at times. With social media and the bulk of the cast being so young, they've all also very online so maybe it appears the lines are flimsier, but they really aren't. Though, I do like the gossip and info and conjecture gained, I'm not gonna pretend I'm above it because I'm not. I just prefer to get it filtered down through reports elsewhere.

I've said the big thing I was involved in before here was Marvel and it was so huge I'm sure there were pockets where parasocial behavior was happening but that wasn't my personal experience. Marvel was a beast barely comparable to ST. Also huge, but very different. But in my last months of Twitter usage there was a fandom in particular that was prevalent on my timeline that I wasn't in but it was unavoidable. I didn't like the show but you really couldn't escape it and wow, very very parasocial and way too involved with the actors and show runners from what I observed. And it seemed to me that fandom in particular skewed older, and much older than me. So it's not behavior strictly limited to younger fans. I think fandom breeds emotional investment and it's a tough balance to regulate excitement and passion and healthy interaction with media. I know I get a bit too emotionally invested with my interests at times, but I recognize that and know when to chill the fuck out and step away for a little while. Many would also benefit.

Hi everyone, Shayy here! It's been quite a while since I posted anything here, but that's because I don't have time. I'm probably more active in tiktok now…. In occasion of my recent birthday I wanted to write some info about me and other things. Some random stuff. So here it goes…

I think I got out of the DuckTales2017 fandom and Ducks. But I still love them with all my heart and keep on reminding myself of some interesting things from them. Quite a long time ago I didn't draw anything from there, because somehow I didn't want to. I've forgotten a bit, but maybe I'll still try to do it again. I still have a bunch of old sketches in an app on my phone and on paper to finish up so maybe someday I'll get around to it.

If anyone ever wondered how I do digital art it's…. on my phone. I just draw with my finger or a phone pen in IbisPaintX and somehow I do well heh….

So for now I'm learning to sketch people and anatomy on paper because it never worked out too well for me. Do you recommend any tutorials on drawing anatomy and faces on the internet? Because it would be helpful to me.

I'm currently in the Murder Drones and The Amazing Digital Circus fandom. Similarly, I'm experimenting with drawing Drones, which I'm also getting a little crappy at.

I try to write fan fiction, but I always stop in the middle of a chapter. I have no motivation lately. Sometimes I get ideas and write something. I'm currently in fanfiction from md with Nhad and have written 3 chapters, which is my record for the longest book. I don't publish it anywhere because to for me it's cringe.

I've also been thinking a lot about my sexual orientation lately, but I don't know much about the subject. It seems to me that I might be bisexual or pan, or maybe even lesbian, because boys don't especially interest me in some way. My parents are homophobes, transphobes and, I'll call it, “queerphobes” so I won't talk to them about any of this. But nwm.

I would love to buy myself a plushie from Glitch store, but my parents have no idea that I like these things, and they would probably not like it.

With the hype surrounding his entrance, this episode absolutely nailed the landing with Mr. Blobby turned flesh horror Mr. Bonzo.

But I've something to admit [ducks and covers from thrown choco leibniz]. I didn't like Mr. Bonzo. At first! I know he was an early fave in the ARG, and while conceptually he's always had a great design (really excellent job toeing the line between something conceivably nostalgic and terrifying in the way so many 90's staples were) I was afraid he was a little too... kitschy to mesh with the monsters I'd come to expect from TMA. But to be fair, the versions in my head have always been a little more muted than some of the takes I've seen online. For example: I love the creativity in the kaleidoscope-coloured Michaels/Helens I've seen, but for me my favourite designs are normal humans stretched to spine-chillingly impossible proportions. Able to sit across from you in a coffee shop then arrest you with terror when you catch them out of the corner of your eye being anything but. Even Monster Pig, arguably the most (affectionately) absurd from the OG cast of monsters, just looked like a rather large farm animal. Till you got close. In the case of Bonzo, I'm so happy to be proven wrong. Couple interesting things in the timeline with this one (relying on quite a hefty bit of supplemental info from the ARG, so feel free to discard if you only want to engage with show canon). I'm not implying correlation, but just in case there was something happening in the world-at-large that multiple players were tapping into, putting concurrent events here to do with as you will.

Sam is tested along with a plethora of other "gifted" kids. Shows and attractions are closed at Bonzoland after a series of incidents. - 12/24/1999 the Magnus Institute is burned down by Starkwall. - 12/31/1999 on the cusp of the millennium, Mr. Bonzo's New Years eve bonanza is cancelled. - 1/03/2000 The OAIR cuts ties with Starkwall - 3/03/2000 Bonzoland closes for good

Now we know Bonzo is affiliated with the OAIR. He's a confirmed external, much to Gwen's future delight. What hasn't been confirmed is if the OAIR ever worked with The Institute. And someone please correct me if that's wrong. I don't have the answer, but we do know (thanks to Helen's use of the word "quango" when she pops up later) that while TMI worked outside the civil service, they at some point received financial support from it. Did the burning of the Institute somehow make what was planned for its grounds unable to pop off, so the OAIR cut off ties with the people responsible for flubbing it? Sheer conjecture at this point, but I'm having fun in the playground. Also, "[HIS TEETH ARE NOT SOFT.]" deserves a shout for most awfully wonderful script addition. And Sam and Alice visit the ruins! Break a seal. Free an Archivist (to the scent of sulphur in the air if the cesspit comments hold any weight). All in a day's work. Little disappointed (for as much as I love them as bonus content) that I feel like the transcripts did the heavy lifting with [ERROR]'s release at the end here. Spoken to a few friends who've agreed they would have had no idea what was going on had they not read along, and that feels slightly wrong to me for an audio medium. It's a trend I've noticed more with Protocol than Archives. The transcripts are almost mandatory reading instead of supplemental if you want to get the whole story. Not upset with it, just... Would hate to alienate folks who weren't raised in the culture of the discord where we pick apart every detail. [shrugs] In more lighthearted news, Alice has a joke on page 16 of the transcript I can't believe they got away with including. Kudos for the chutzpah.

hi, everyone!

i thought i'd take a quick second to introduce myself and to also formally open up requests. i'm already working on a few things, but requests really do always help and feel free to submit them at any point--but, we'll get to all of that in a moment!

my name is lavinia, and i am a uni student studying both theatre (dramaturgy specifically) and creative writing! i love to sing, act, write (obviously haha), read (i am a huge fan of classic literature, as well as donna tartt, mona awad, sally rooney, elif bautman, and ottessa moshfegh's works), go to concerts, go to the movies, style/design clothing, paint, collect records/cds, and so much more! this barely scratches the surface really but, if any of you share these interests, always feel free to reach out!

thoughts on The Blog + 2024 year in reflection + next year goals

hi there, long time no talk. if you don't remember why you're following me, it's probably because i wrote a lot of mp100 fanfic like five years ago. i haven't posted much on this blog this year besides reblogging some fundraisers and i want to try and use this more. hope you're doing well!

i think i tend to be pretty precious about what i put on this blog, because in my mind i wanted it to be creative updates and art only, but more and more i realize that i really enjoy reading what artists i follow are up to and thinking about whether it's creative or not. so i want to try and post more casually too. sharing what im up to + occasional reblogs. i hope you enjoy that kind of stuff too.

i made a tag on the blog for stuff ive made called.. #stuff ive made. so it'll still be easy to find my art and writing. ill probably make a pinned post with that info in a little bit.

ok, so other orders of business, how was 2024 for me?

2024 was pretty good for me. it was not quite what i thought it would be-- i had a few different goals at the beginning of the year that i ended up shifting on. i also cannot find my new year's resolutions from last year which is surprising because i pretty much always make them.

however, i made some general accomplishments that im pretty happy with, such as:

switching from misc freelance scrambling and part time work to a 40hr/week job, with way better pay

going to water aerobics twice a week fairly consistently, which is the first time i've consistently exercised maybe ever

taking my health more seriously in general

finishing a rough draft of a comic script (which i then put aside, due to next accomplishment)

finally dipping my toes into game dev which i have always wanted to try but was always too scared to

cutting way back on social media usage and being stricter with how much time i spend on my phone

generally Putting Myself Out There more and making friends in da city

so i'm pretty pleased. however, as i think at the end of every year, i still feel my creative output is not what i wanted it to be. admittedly i did draw more than i have in a while. i worked on several projects and got a few things off the ground. but not much i feel i can share. i feel like i consistently did more, but my output was just very slow. this is partly from working on larger projects and things that are time consuming, but man, i want to prioritize this stuff more.

i also find that i am struggling a bit about what i want to be working on creatively. i have ideas but everything's a bit half formed. i think this year i've unearthed some insecurities about the quality of my work and ideas-- i think previously i just told myself that if i sat down and did stuff i would be a savant, i just hadn't gotten around to it yet. this was definitely just from a fear of failure. ok, so i did sit down and do some stuff and it was kind of just ok-- at least to me. what now?

so, i need more time to work on stuff and i need to develop my Artistic Voice or whatever. point one is a bit easier to find a solution for, even if it's scary- im planning to cut back my work hours in the new years and set aside fridays for personal project time only. this is mostly stressful because everything on earth is only getting more expensive but i think i just need to do this. if i don't i will always wonder what if.

...point two is vaguer. how do you develop an artistic vision and goal? admittedly, i think i put way too much pressure on myself to have consistent creative styles and interests. but at the same time, out of all the things i love, there has to be something im drawn to creatively, right? even if i haven't realized it yet? besides anime fanfic epics?

well, probably just in the doing things will emerge. i'll focus on that for now. this seems like a similar question to high schoolers asking how you get an Art Style, and not realizing that's just something that naturally emerges when you draw a lot. you can certainly point it in certain directions, but it won't settle and be yours unless you do it a lot.

okay, what else. i have some other personal goals i won't share here, but one more i WILL share here is i think in 2025 i really want to engage with less passive media. i love to put on a youtube video essay and play a game on my phone. lots of half attention to things that don't deserve my whole attention. i think that's ok sometimes to relax and unwind, but i feel like i missed out on so many cool stories by doing that. i feel good about this goal because it's less about Reading Twenty Five Books This Year Because That's Good For Me and more about experiencing stories because i want that.

this year i read stone butch blues and i remember thinking at the end of it, why am i not reading things like this all the time? why am i not devoting myself to experiencing beautiful works of art? why am i more likely to put on ten hour let's play of a mediocre PS2 game that no one has ever heard of than to watch a two hour classic movie that will emotionally resonate and maybe change my life?

...well, it's partially because that gets emotionally exhausting. it's ok to chill out some. but i don't want to pacify myself all the time. i need to think about how to make this a Measurable Goal or whatever, but i'm excited about it.

i think that's all i will put here. i hope you have a good new year's and that 2024 wasn't too painful for you. i feel as though most of the internet was cruel and disheartening this year- endless windows into the worst of humanity. things that were painful to read, while also knowing they would be thousand and thousands time worse to experience. even so, i saw a lot of kindness too-- people reaching out to help, and the generosity of my friends and family. i hope you saw some of that too. here's to 2025.
