Over the years, I've gotten a lot of cis people messaging me about how they should go about dating or courting somebody who's trans, and I always felt like my responses would almost... disappoint them because there isn't this magic secret to dating us.

Cis people, if you want to date us, just date us. We're human beings, we're not wild animals to tame! I promise you can have a healthy relationship with a trans person without needing to feel like the world will end if you mess up.

Trans people who date cis people often want to feel secure in your acceptance of them. You don't have to talk about our transness for hours on end to prove that you accept your loved one. You don't have to put on a display and cabaret about how Much You Accept Us. Just be a person around us, and let us be people, too!

I almost want to disappoint cis people by reminding them of this. Some of the best relationships I've had with cis people have been ones where my transness is acknowledged, sure, but it's acknowledged in the same way that my left-handedness is. It's not a joke to them, it isn't something to be horrified about, but it's also something that they don't objectify me for.

How To Gif: Glass Shatter Effect

By popular demand (ie, 7 people who voted in this poll), here is a tutorial on how to do the glass shatter effect I used to create the first gif in this set.

I use Photoshop CC 2015 (yes I know it's old) for my gifmaking, but you should be able to apply everything to newer versions of Photoshop. For this tutorial I'll be assuming you know the gifmaking basics, but if not, I would recommend this tutorial, which is the process I use to make gifs. Note that this particular process involves saving all of the frames, importing those frames into Photoshop, and then using an action to convert to a smart object.

Before I could start making this gif, I needed three things; the two scenes that I wanted to use, and a video of the glass shattering effect. I already knew the scenes I wanted, so then I took to YouTube to find a video which I can't for the life of me find again (edit: thanks to add1ctedt0you in the replies for linking this video!), but it looked like this:

Something like this is what you want. Ideally the green part would be entirely white, but as long as there are two clearly different colours you can usually work with it.

This looks a lot slower than the gif that I made, but that's not because of the frame rate - which is exactly the same above as in the final gif - it's just because there are extra frames in this slower one that I cut out. In the video I used, the glass shattering happened very slowly. I didn't want that, so I ended up skipping several frames when I loaded the frames into Photoshop before using my gifmaking action. I just did this by manually selecting one frame, skipping the next several before selecting another frame, and repeating this until I had selected 60 frames.

After using my gif action, I had a smart object of the glass shatter effect that looked like this:

That's a much better speed! It still wasn't quite where I needed it to be though. I needed this in black and white, so I slapped a hue/saturation adjustment on the smart object and set the saturation all the way down to -100.

Okay great, I could start putting the gif together now.

First, I made a copy of the glass shatter smart object, because I'll need that later. Then, I pulled in frames from the scene that I wanted to appear in the hole after the glass shatters, and I used those to create a new smart object with my gif action (we'll call it Scene-bg). I pulled Scene-bg into the same window as the glass shatter objects. Then I created a new smart object by combining one of the glass shatter objects with Scene-bg, which I did by selecting both layers right clicking, and selecting "Convert to Smart Object".

I renamed this smart object to Shatter-fg. I opened it by clicking on the little icon next to the layer name in the layers window here:

The most important thing here is that the shatter effect object should be the top layer, and I set the mode to "lighten". This will make sure that the lightest colour of either this layer and the layer behind it is displayed; that means that anywhere that's white in our shatter animation will still show up, but anywhere that's black we'll see what's in the layer(s) behind it.

Then I threw some adjustment layers between them to get the colouring I wanted. I used a curves layer, a hue/saturation layer, and I also added text with an outer glow layer effect. Here's what the layer order looked like and the settings I used for each layer:

After this process, Shatter-fg looked like this:

Okay nice, this is starting to look like something! I saved this and went back to the main file with the other glass shatter object.

I needed to invert that other glass shatter object. There's a weird quirk with the version of Photoshop that I use where it doesn't like it when I apply specifically an invert adjustment to a smart object (it appears correctly when editing, but not on export) so I did this by creating a new smart object which included a separate invert layer, but if you have a newer version of Photoshop you can probably just apply the invert adjustment directly. Just note that you'll need to do one of these options; it won't work if you add a separate adjustment layer in the main file, it needs to be applied specifically to the smart object (which we'll now be calling Shatter-bg). It looked like this after I inverted it:

Once that's done, I made sure Shatter-fg was the layer directly above Shatter-bg, and set the mode of Shatter-fg to "darken" and Shatter-bg to "lighten". Since Shatter-fg is set to darken, it will be visible only when it is darker than the layer behind it. By setting Shatter-bg to lighten, I've guaranteed that the layer behind it will always be lighter (ie, white) in the places we want Shatter-fg to be visible, and will be black otherwise. Once I update those settings, this is what the gif looked like:

This is all there is to the glass shatter effect itself. Next I pulled in frames from the second scene to fill in the black areas. This layer needed to go below both glass shatter layers, so that it only shows through where the black. Then I added adjustment layers and some text. I used curves, hue/saturation, and vibrance adjustment layers, and I also added the "archer" text below the glass shatter layers so that it would be hidden to reveal the "prey" text. The other text I added above all of the layers, since I wanted this to be visible all the time. Here is the layer order and all of the settings I used for each of the layers:

I also grouped Shatter-bg and Shatter-fg and shifted them on the timeline so there would be some time to see the background gif before the shatter effect starts.

And that's all! Then it''s just a matter of exporting the finished product:

This is the first gifmaking tutorial I've ever made, so I hope I was able to be reasonably coherent and helpful! seeing as I've dedicated myself to being the world's biggest fabricator enjoyer (joke). i think it will be obvious who i'll take the opportunity to talk about :] with some other headcanons thrown in also.

I think a lot of my Fabricator headcanons count as "unpopular" if only because not many people talk about her in general. The first thing that came to mind for me is that I personally headcanon her as trans for no reason other than I'm trans and my favorite characters get hit with my beam attacks. I also think she's not really mean once you get to know her - She's much more relaxed around friends, it's just that she has. One friend total, maybe two if we're being generous with the definition of friend. And I just generally see her as a different kind of "mean" than other people seem to, if that makes sense? She has fun with it, yeah, but she has reasons and such. even if those reasons can be petty. I don't know if she enjoys drama for drama's sake, she's got a reputation to uphold and all. She uses more subtle verbal attacks, sarcasm and such.

Another unpopular headcanon, but for Agent Phoenix this time: My Phoenix is a lesbian. Got them with my beam attack also. I also tend to see them as less... Chaotic? They're cautious, taking their time to figure out the situation. They do still put things in their mouth though. That's important to me.

okay, okay, okayokayokay-

you are going to have to BEAR WITH ME and just ROLL with whatever I'm about to throw at you because this is my first time REALLY explaining this!!

Her element is in the group of "not a tangible/'real' thing/element" - so it isn't a straightforward thing like fire/water/earth etc - her's is more in the camp of "creation/descruction/life/energy" where its a broad topic (if that makes sense) - its called Chaos and her elemental/ninja colour is pink :3

It WASN'T created by the FSM - BUT was brought into existence by a different person (another one of my OC's - her name's Theia) who was around/alive back with the FSM and is the original master of Chaos. HOWEVER - the "Chaos" that Poppy has is supposed to be a "watered-down" version of that original element - kinda like the whole thing where Lloyd's power is thought to be a "watered-down" version of the FSM's power - the golden power and whatever (Right? i don't think i made that up) - BUT YEAH, it's the same thing but only small parts of it? I guess? + it has a different name (I dunno what the ORIGINAL element would be called - I kinda never thought about it because in my mind the original master was lost to time and wasn't rememebered like the FSM & eventually it just got thought the HE made Chaos as well) - Where did THE ORIGINAL master of Chaos get the element from? WELL!... okay so this is gonna sound strange BUT the element comes from the stars/cosmic energy. The creation of the universe itself (basically the Ninjago version of The Big Bang) caused the element to come into existence (like how The Merge has done) & is why the Element of Chaos is so all-over-the-place, the universe and the stars are chaotic and messy - their energy is always contradicting itself - Theia had a VERY strong connection with the universe/the stars/cosmic energy but Poppy doesn't due to her's being watered-down

The whole vibe with it is that it's made to be a sort of yin-yang with itself? in which its made to be both offensive due to being able to create projectiles (whether thats like small concentrated shards of the element) or those like big orbs of energy or her conjuring different actual weapons AND defensive since its made to heal & shield & protect & help others (has healing abilities/can create shields or barriers/can make platforms etc) - the word chaos can be used for good or bad things (chaotic good/bad sort-of thing) which is WHY I wanted to make the element into something that embodies both of these sides - Chaos is a yin-yang, Chaos is a cycle/mixture of creation and destruction, Chaos is unpredictable - you hear something being described as "chaos" or "chaotic" and while people mostly assume that means its going terribly, chaos can be fun and good and EXCITING and sometimes helpful - it depends on the situation - which is why she's able to both harm & heal

Delving a *little* further into her abilities, we have:

Creating projectiles by concentrating the elemental power into different shapes - such as shards (like ice or crystals shaped) or into orbs (like the one Lloyd can conjure in his hand? or kinda like fireballs?)

just straight up shooting a stream of the element at whatever - its kinda like misty? but heavy

Creating weapons - this really falls in the category as shaping the energy into something but I like to differentiate it from just random shapes - she's able to "make" weapons - AND ONLY WEAPONS - for however long she needs - while they physically exist once made and can be seperated from her, only she can hold them/use them, they just fade away/turn to mist if in someone else's hand

HEALING - this affects both her (has an intense/inhuman healing factor) and others (able to heal others wounds but has limitations) - the WHOLE THING with her healing is that it speeds up the healing process, so a wound or ripped tissue/muscle or certain? broken bones can be "fixed" by her but if it was to require surgery? she couldn't do it. Like - if you needed straight up new lungs or a kidney she couldn't heal that because that's full-on surgery and new body parts, which she can't make - DOES THAT MAKE SENSE??? She can't like,,, cure lifelong diseases or anything

Barriers/Shields - either just a small solid wall in front of her or others OR domes? which sit completely over people (this takes a lot of concenration/power) she normally just does small walls to protect what would be the most damaging/worst spot to hit if trying to protect someone/herself - rarely covers the whole person unless needed

Platforms - very self-explanitory, big old things that shoot out a surface (could be walls, floors, ceilings whatever) BUT she HAS to be touching the surface in order to do it - can't just conjure it in mid-air attached to nothing - can be conjured by using either hands OR feet (I'm STRONGLY in the camp that elemental masters can use the elements throughout their WHOLE body, not just from hands - like bending in A:TLA) - these platforms tend to have a very... crystal appearance? they have jagged edges and sides, shards shooting out the sides but where people can stand it's smooth and almost a little slippy - like ice in a way (Tried to show this is the drawing above - dunno if it came across lmao)

Hey quick anatomy question if you have time!! I know galra are mammals so it makes sense that kits are born without teeth or very small teeth so that they can nurse, without causing too much pain to their mothers but do galra lose baby teeth? Or do the teeth they first grow just grow stronger and larger and as their skills grow new teeth grow in the back? What do you think? Question inspired bc a saw one of those pics of toddlers/young kids skulls with the adult teeth growing above the baby teeth that hadn’t fallen out yet!

I remember one of the shows creators saying theyd like to explore the blades of marmora more either through a book or separate series. So most mammals are born toothless (due to their initial food source being their mother's milk) and will go forth to have two sets of teeth in their lifetime, the first being their baby—or deciduous—teeth as they wean, and their second their permanent adult teeth as they mature. The galra are no exception to this!

So yes, galra kitlings are born toothless and remain that way until they're weaned at around 10 imperial decaphobes—that's right, a full decade!—which, if you're in need of a refresher on galra lifespans, is the human equivalent of 2-3 years old. At this age kitlings begin teething, their first set of teeth making a rapid appearance until they have the full set of 20: twelve incisors, four canines, and four carnassials. These deciduous teeth last them far longer than the human equivalent, as galra children don't typically begin to lose them until early adolescence (~40idp) and their permanent replacements might not finish emerging until young adulthood (~70idp).
