Road To The Kingdom - Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes Film
I remember seeing the trailers for Rise of the Planet of the Apes, shaking my head at yet another remake of a long-ago franchise. In 2011, we were hearing rumors of a new Spider-Man coming to replace Tobey Maguire and now I was looking at Harry, son of the Green Goblin, becoming a scientist and creating a drug to make apes smarter. On the other hand, Andy Serkis was getting a main role, more screen time than Gollum in Lord of the Rings, where I adored him and was eager to see him again. I was going in with some hesitation but decided to just turn my brain off for a summer action movie.
I was surprised with how much I enjoyed Rise. Many fans seem to put this as their least favorite of the reboot trilogy. I can understand why; it doesn't have nearly as much action as Dawn or War and runs at a slower pace. But what it did have was fantastic character building in Caesar, which is needed in this trilogy. I would not be as engaged with these movies if I didn't love Caesar. Seeing him start as a little baby with his human family living a carefree youth, and then grow into a mature ape questioning his place in the world really filled out his character. He could have easily just been a random lab chimp who got smarter but I think the slow-build really fleshes him out. You empathize with him when he protects James Franco's father to the point of biting a neighbor. The human world completely turns on him and Caesar is forced to realize his true nature as an ape.
Andy Serkis is truly allowed to shine in this role. Gollum was fun and had the two different sides to play with but there is such a powerful subtlety to this performance. Though Caesar can sign, it's mostly not translated into subtitles; only in two conversations with Maurice does the audience get a translation. The majority of the film and Caesar's story is carried out entirely through his expressions, gestures, and body language. Look at the tall confident walk he has when directing Rocket to give cookies to the other apes. The heartbreak I felt as Caesar's expression falls when his human family says he can't go home. The wordless fury when Buck the gorilla sacrifices himself on the bridge to bring down the helicopter and save the escaping apes. Even when the story can get bogged down a bit in the constant science explanations, I immediately perk up when the focus switches back to Caesar and can soak in the incredible performance of Andy Serkis.
Rise is much less action filled than its sequel films because it has to cover a lot as set up for the apocalypse to come. That set up is good, but again the science is a lot and can be a bore. However I think the pay off works. The horror of a simple graphic of the Earth, where one line splits and becomes many more, spreading across the planet, was very effective for me. I've heard people who didn't like that the apocalypse that destroys the human race is done in the credits, that it feels more like an afterthought. But for me, I think it was a powerful hook. Halfway through watching the film for the first time, I'd forgotten that this was Rise of the PLANET of the Apes. So I was excited for Caesar and his apes to escape, just happy that they'd gotten their freedom. Then the sick pilot and the spreading sickness animation hit me like a ton of bricks like "Oh shit, I forgot the humans have to die for the ape world to happen!" This probably didn't happen for everyone, especially those familiar with the original movies, but I liked the ending, undercutting the triumph of the apes with the doom of humanity.
Other than Will and his father Charles, the rest of the human cast is mostly forgettable, servicing the story where needed. Tom Felton of Harry Potter fame is a bit fun in his over-the-top hatred of the apes. When he gets to say the iconic "get your stinking paws off me, you damn dirty ape", my movie theater laughed at how forced the line felt, which I'm sure was not the intention. The weirdness of the line was swallowed up by the excitement of Caesar speaking for the first time and leading the apes out of the shelter, but I still remember the laughter of the audience when rewatching this movie.
Overall, I think it's a great start to the series. Not the most exciting of the films, definitely dragged down by a lot of science exposition and unremarkable human characters, but a good intro to the world, setting up the apocalypse and making you root for a bunch of apes over the humans. You probably could jump directly into Dawn and War if you wanted, just knowing that humanity was wiped out by an illness that made apes smarter and Caesar is the leader, but I think getting to know Caesar makes it worth a watch before the more exciting films.
(Note that this is the only movie in this trilogy that does not have a novelization, likely because it was the first film and they didn't know how well the trilogy would do. It's a shame because I would have loved to read the thoughts of Caesar finding his place among both humans and apes.)

Cherry Lollipop | Fushiguro Toji
SYNOPSIS: Neighbors AU - Someone new moves into the neighborhood.
READER: gender neutral
WORDS: 1051
WRITTEN: 04/07/2021
NOTES: Thank you for requesting from my event! This was so fun to write. "Careful of wandering hands. I bite."
THE FIRST DAY
A new person moved into your neighborhood and they so happened to be your new neighbor.
You liked to eavesdrop, so you peered out your window to watch the moving van and the new owners.
You saw a man holding a child so you assumed he was the new neighbor since no one in their right mind would bring a child with them on the job.
He was lifting furniture with one hand while the other held onto the child. As if he noticed your staring, he turned toward you and grinned.
You immediately closed the blinds and breathed heavily to stop the hammering in your chest. It was absolutely embarrassing to be caught watching someone.
You headed to your kitchen after deciding last minute to bake something for your new neighbors.
Because of the child, you decided to make cupcakes with cherry frosting. You never had a child before but you knew most of them enjoyed sweets.
After dancing and singing around in your kitchen while baking, the cupcakes were finally done.
It took a while and the sun had already set, but it wasn't too late to gift the cupcakes to the new neighbors.
When you first moved to the neighborhood, you baked all night and gifted the various sweets to your neighbors the next day.
Your family always taught you to be kind and welcoming to everyone because you never knew what doors they could open for you.
As you grew up, you simply enjoyed giving people sweets because of the smiles on their faces.
You picked up the tray of cupcakes and headed out the door, crossing your lawn to make way to their doorway.
You rang the doorbell and waited patiently. When the door opened, you had to step back and tilt your head back to look at your neighbor.
"I baked cupcakes as a welcome to the neighborhood," you said. "I noticed you had a kid."
"You're the one who was peeping on us," he said with a smirk.
"I—I wasn't peeping," you defended. "I was glancing."
He laughed. "Sure, sure. What flavor are those?"
"Chocolate with cherry frosting."
"Well, my kid does like chocolate. Megumi, this peeping Tom brought you cupcakes," he said as the child wedged himself between his father's legs.
"I'm not a peeping Tom, you old man," you snapped.
You considered yourself a kind person, but you did have a mouth that ran wild at certain times, courtesy of your mother.
He raised an eyebrow. "Name's Toji. I'd prefer that over 'old man.' "
You huffed. "I'm Y/N."
"Old man, can I have a cupcake?" Megumi asked.
"Oi, don't call me that," Toji retorted. "And introduce yourself."
You snickered before extending your hands out. Toji took the tray of cupcakes from you and Megumi's eyes followed them.
"I'm Megumi," he said as he forced his eyes away from the tray of cupcakes.
"Well, it was nice meeting the two of you. I'll see you around, old man," you said as you bowed and walked away.
Toji hummed. "I'm not that old."
Megumi shrugged.
THE SECOND DAY
The next afternoon, you decided to go out to your patio to read a book in the sun.
Your eyes widened a bit when you saw Toji shirtless, working on his garden while Megumi read a book on the steps.
You quickly looked down at your book to distract yourself. You rolled the cherry lollipop around in your mouth, focusing on your romance novel.
"Up to no good?"
You jolted and the book fell out of your hands and onto your lap. Toji was standing outside the railing of your porch, resting his arms on it.
You took the cherry lollipop out of your mouth and licked it to get rid of the saliva.
"Up to reading," you corrected. "What are you up to, old man? Exercising to lengthen your old joints?"
"I'm still young."
"Sure, buddy. Did you need something?"
"Just came to check up on my neighbor like the kind person I am," he said.
"Somehow, I don't believe that."
THE THIRD DAY
You closed the door to your car, then opened the trunk to grab your groceries. A cherry lollipop was in your mouth, rolling around your tongue.
Cherry-flavored candy was your favorite. It helped you focus and if you were angry, you'd bite it instead of taking your anger out of something else.
Grocery bag in your arms, you walked up the steps to your house and stood there, trying to find your house keys in your back pocket.
"Hey, neighbor."
"GAH—" You slipped and would have fallen if Toji hadn't caught you. "God, don't do that!" you exclaimed. "You scared the life out of me, old man. Hey, Megumi."
Megumi hummed.
Your hand moved to wrangle yourself away, accidentally roaming Toji's chest and abdomen. Despite teasing and ridiculing him, you did not regret what you felt.
"Careful of wandering hands. I bite,” he said with a grin.
You turned to glare at him, but then he took the cherry lollipop out of your mouth and placed it into his. Your eyes widened and you smacked him on the chest.
Maybe you smacked him a bit too hard because your hand was stinging from how hard his chest was.
"Get your own!" you exclaimed.
"What did I just say?" he questioned. "I may bite you the next time you touch me. Don't tell me you're into that."
"I'll sew your mouth shut," you retorted.
"Feisty."
You rolled your eyes. "That was my last cherry lollipop too, ya know? You owe me a new bag."
"When most people say that, they're referring to high-end bags."
"Well, I want a bag of cherry lollipops. Think you can do that, old man?" you questioned.
"Careful there," he warned.
You huffed and turned around to put your house key into the slot. "You're not invited to dinner tonight, but Megumi is."
“I wanna go,” said Megumi.
“See? The kid has taste. What do you like? Steak? Have you ever had steak before?”
He shook his head.
“He’s getting steak,” you informed.
“What do I get?” Toji asked.
“I said you weren't invited.”
“That's not very neighborly of you,” he retorted.
“Fine, you can have steak but you're sitting at the kiddie table.”

Home isn't Always a Place
You're pushed forward, a gun on your back. You step down the ramp, the sunlight blinding you for a while. The headquarters were built here, in some sort of field. There as soldiers everywhere, and they're immediately aware of you. Of course they are, you're a threat. With a gun on your hand, seven bullets means seven men on the ground, crying in pain. You hardly miss.
“Sister!” A yell gets your attention, and you turn to its source. Harley comes running, throwing her arms around you. “So good to see you. Where have you been?”
In paradise. “Same place as I've been for the last year. Isn't it obvious?” Shrugging your shoulders casually, you try not to look to misplaced. Wait. Why would you look misplaced here?
“Well, now we get to have fun and some family bonding.” As she speaks, a soldier walking by gets her attention. “Hey, you. Can you help me with something?” She says in a flirting tone and walks away.
“Now it's a party.” A rough voice says, and you soon recognize the owner.
“Killer.” You greet him with a smile and a quick hug. “Nice to see you'll be here to have my back. Who else is here?”
“Deadshot is arguing with a soldier. Diablo is seated in some corner whining.” He smiles, gesturing at his left. “Long time no see. How's life?”
“Life's fine. As fine as it could be.” You start walking over where Deadshot is, watching as the soldier rolls his eyes. Floyd is gesticulating a lot, which means he's pissed.
“I won't have it like it was the last time. Now go, be a good puppy and tell this to your boss.” He says, turning his back at the man. “Havoc. Hi.” He says, exchanging a glance with Killercroc. “Ready for another stupid mission?”
“It's not like we have a choice, right? I–”
“Listen up, assholes! Your dirty things are in these boxes. So change and let's get the hell out of here. You have five minutes.” A man shouts, and everyone rolls their eyes.
You make your way to your things, and as you expected, your box is filled with your old clothes. All in shades of lilac, purple and pink. As usual, the soldiers just stand around you, not caring too much, as you change. You never liked that. Harley doesn't seem to care, and many eyes lay on her. But you do care. And you care a lot more now.
“Guys. A little help?”
Floyd and Killer grab some of the dark plastic bags that lie on the the floor, as you take a dark purple sleeveless jumpsuit. You move to stand near a wall, and the guys turn their backs at you, holding the bags high so you're shielded from anyone's eyes. They did the same on the first time, and you're very thankful for that.
“Thanks, guys. I'm done.” You tell them, fixing the jumpsuit on your body. The hard material makes you feel strong, like Havoc again.
“You're welcome.” Killer says.
“To the trucks! Now!” A man barks and you have no choice but to do as he says.
All of you go in the back of one of the trucks, together. Harley seems to be the only one excited about it, since she's trying to flirt with a soldier named Tom. You wonder what Joker would think about that. Oh. He's stuck on a bed for the rest of his life. He won't be saying anything, you bet.
As you move through the town, you can't help but think about what you did before leaving the house. The kiss. You can't believe you actually kissed him. What in hell were you thinking? You're very brave to do such a crazy thing like that. And you should've at least stayed to see his expression. To see if he was mad or not. But even if he didn't like it, you trust him enough to know he won't break his promise. He still keep helping you after you beat him up twice, so it's not a peck in the lips that will make him change his mind.
Being sure of this is a weird feeling. Your head is so much clearer now, you're not as scared as you were. And you're liking who you're becoming. This mission is just a inconvenience. It'll be over and you'll head back to the house, back to the way of getting a real life. A good life, a life you'll actually enjoy having.
You stop suddenly, and you're ordered out of the truck. “There's a small group here. Eyes open. They might have put mines here so... Don't blow up.”
You get two guns, one in your hand as you walk the perimeter. Harley stays close to Tom, but it doesn't bother you. You walk near Killercroc and Floyd, your head too far from this place.
“Hey.” Floyd elbows you. “Are you ok?”
“Yeah, I'm just... Thinking.” Shrugging your shoulders, you need to focus on being casual. “How's you daughter?”
“She's great. Best student of her class and she's in a hella good school. The best of Gotham.” He looks at the sides, making sure nobody is too close. Killercroc is a few steps ahead and he doesn't really care about these stuff anyways. “You will never guess who put her there. And also guaranteed her a good University, any one she chooses.”
“That's freaking amazing, Floyd. Who did all that?” It couldn't be Amanda. She's not that good.
“Batman.” The mention of Bruce makes you blush, your heart aching from his absence. You look down, running a hand through your hair.
“Batman? In like the man you hate with all your strength?”
“How can I hate someone who does that for my kid? No, no. I respect him. Even admire him now, doing this after I tried to kill him half a dozen times.”
“Floyd, he's...” You need to let out out your chest, and having someone to talk about it would be nice. And you know you can trust Floyd, even more now that his hate for Bruce is gone. So the words roll out your tongue in a whisper as you both stop walking. “...Batman is the one helping me... Rehabilitating me.”
“Oh. So the rumors are true. I knew they took you somewhere else, just didn't know where.”
“You two. Walk.” Someone says and you start moving again.
“Yes, he... I'm going well. I...” Floyd looks down at you, raising one eyebrow. “He said it was mostly just me, but he did help. He treated me with kindness, believed me. I don't know how to explain but I'm different.”
“I did notice something was off with you. But I'd never guess.”
“Really? I was trying to keep it cool.” As you speak, three man come from the corner, immediately shooting at you. You duck behind a car, peaking just enough to lay eyes on them and aim. But they're easily put down without you having to shoot.
“All clear!” Harley says, smiling.
“So...” You continue when you start walking downtown again. “I didn't want to come, but he promised me it would be the last time.”
“Uhm... He's making promises?”
“Yes.” You don't get his tone. “He's very kind to me. Unlike anyone else... He even threw me a birthday party.”
“Happy birthday by the way, and sorry it's a little late.” You turn the corner, carefully at first. “How kind?”
“Kind.” What else can you say? That his touch is so soft, so gentle that you couldn't help but fall in love with him? “He... Cares. I think.”
“You fell for him.” Floyd bursts out, and it's not even a question. It's an affirmative. How did he get there so fast?
But you're fast to dissimulate. “What? No.”
“It's called Stockholm Syndrome.”
“It's not like that!” You exclaim. “You know I've been kidnapped before. Twice by the Joker, who kept me hostage for five months... I did spent three of them just to play tricks on his mind and get some of his money but you get what I mean. Batman didn't held me hostage. He spoke to me, helped me get clean of the drugs they used to give me at Belle Reve, he... He won't let the door locked anymore. He wants me to be able to live in society again.”
“I was teasing you. But since you went into great lengths to defend your relationship with him... You did fell for him.”
“Shut up, Floyd.” You mutter, too much on your head. Increasing your pace, you reach Killer, walking beside him.
Your feelings are pretty clear, as much as you don't want to admit it. And hear it like that just makes it even worse. The kiss... All you think is about that kiss you shouldn't have given.
You're thankful when the action starts, because you have something else to focus on. It doesn't resumes in shooting, you eventually get into hand to hand combat. And you can deal with it pretty well. Of course, it's easier because the guys have your back. You guess they somehow noticed you have no pleasure on doing this anymore. Diablo, as usual, doesn't participate much.
When you stop, hours later, you feel your body complaining a little, but you know it'll get worse. But you also know you can deal with that. And you will, because this time you have somewhere nice to return to.
The commotion goes on for a couple of days. It gets messy, and it only gets worse when the granades start falling from the skies. You're all bruised up again, but not as bad as you were in the hell hole. How is it possible that you're in the middle of a war and you're not as much hurt as you were inside a prison?
As you approach the terrorists base, things get worse, and even the soldiers seem to get anxious. So that means they're extra evil to you. One of them denied you a bottle of water, what made Killercroc almost get his head blown out for arguing with the man. That reminds you that you don't have an explosive this time, but the soldiers told you they will put a bullet through your head if you try anything. But they can rest their minds because the only thing you want is to end this soon.
A week later, the soldiers decide to settle for the night, and push you into a half destroyed house. Harley uses all the hot water, so you have to endure the cold. But it feels good to clean up, and you can take a look at your wounds. A few cuts and purple bruises, nothing you can't deal with. The only bad part of the times you stop to rest a little before start moving again, is that your mind involuntary floats back to Bruce. You can't help it, everything comes back. When he left his gala to dance with you, the dreams, the birthday surprise, the kiss... Why can't you take this man out of your head?
You're alone in a room where half of the wall is down. The others are downstairs, but you want to be alone. You can see the stars from here, and you wonder if Bruce is staring at them too. “Hey, freak.” A soldier comes in, throwing a small radio at you, that looks like a very rustic cellphone. “Someone wants to speak to you. You have five minutes.”
Watching as he leaves, you lie back on the floor, approaching the radio from your ear and mouth. You know who it is, and your stomach goes crazy, with a thousand butterflies flying around.
“Hi.” He answers. “How are you?”
His voice is so familiar, like home. “I'm surviving. Enduring. Just want this to be over soon.”
“It will. And you'll be back here.”
“I hope so... We're near their base now. So only a couple of days more and we'll reach it. Take them down.” You close your eyes, hoping that his voice will be enough to make you dream of him tonight. You would give anything to have him here... Or to be back home. You mean, back at his house. “How's everything there?" Stupid question, he's fine, everything is fine.
“It's weird not to have you here.”
A smile comes to your lips. “Is it?” You whisper, taking a deep breath. You're scared you'll lose control, and the words will roll out your tongue. “Our time is almost over but... Thank you, I... It's good to speak to you.”
“Just remember I'm waiting for you.” You hear his heavy breath, as if he's suffering too, tired, exhausted.
Then you hear a little static, and you know he's gone... There's a weight on your chest and you can't help but let a single tear roll down your cheek. You keep the radio near your face, as if you could hold Bruce with a little longer. “I miss you so much.” You say, barely recognizing your weak voice.
“I miss you too.” The sudden answer scares you, your eyes widened.
“I- I thought you hanged up.”
“No, I'm still here. And I miss you very much, sweetheart.”
The pet name makes you lose it, and now you're crying. “Bruce, I–”
“Time's up, Havoc.” The soldier comes back, hand reached out. “Say goodbye to your protector.”
“I gotta go. I... I miss you.” You burst out before another sentence, far more dangerous, leaves your lips. You give the man the radio back, curling up on the floor, bracing yourself.
From tomorrow, you'll fight harder. You need to go back.
• • •
“Their base–” The soldier who announces is shot in the throat, right beside you. You're duck behind the barricades, waiting for the big guns to arrive. You cannot approach with the risk of being blown up, and they're not allowed to spend you just yet.
“That's it. Shoot to kill, that's an order.” The commandant yells, and the bodies start dropping faster. But not from your gun. You keep aiming for their knees, but another bullet always finds the man you leave collapsed on the floor. “Are you deaf, slut?” He barks at you, leaving his post and pulling you up by the shoulders. “Don't you think you can trick me just because the Bat took you into his wings. Do what you do best and kill those terrorists.”
“I don't kill, sarg.” You tell him, making your way back to your post. But the grabs your arm violently, squeezing right on a wound you got. You groan, trying to pull away.
“You don't kill? Nice try. You will do as I say!” He yells right to your face, and you can feel his disgusting breath. But you won't back down, and you won't take a life just because he told you to.
“I don't kill.” You repeat, standing as tall as you can, head up raised up to look the man in the eye.
His gun makes sudden contact with your face, in the apple on the right cheek. Your head jerks to the side, and you're knocked down, a sharp pain spreading through the skull.
“Hey! Leave her alone!” Killercroc comes running, and you see through the corner of your eyes as he engages in a fight with the man.
You're done here. Crawling away from the fight, you hide yourself behind a building, seated on the floor and resting your back against the wall. They seem to be dealing with that very well, so they don't need you. You're tired of fighting, tired of being in pain.
“Havoc?” Floyd calls, startling you a little. “Are you ok? Your cheek is–”
I'm (Y/N). “Yes, I'm ok. But I'm not going back there.”
“You'll have to tell them you're feeling unwell or else–”
“I don't care, ok? I just need to go back home. I'm sick and tired of this shit.” You burst out.
“Home?” He questions, not seeming too excited to head back to the battlefield.
“Yeah, just... I'm confused, I'm hurt. I'm not thinking straight.”
“I have to head back. Sorry.”
Nodding, you close your eyes, taking in the explosions and shooting. The only thing you want is peace now, silence... Bruce's arms. A heavy, cold rain starts falling, and you're soaking wet in a matter of seconds. Your head spins around, and you lie down, eyes closed tight.
Suddenly, you're pulled into a heavy sleep.
• • •
“Lucky bitch. We should be taking her back to where she belongs.” A rough voice wakes you up, and you sit up, eyes opening slowly. You're in a truck, in the back, on the metal floor. Your hands are tied by huge metal handcuffs, that cover both hands, reaching the middle of your forearm. It's heavy.
“Let's teach her a lesson. Just like old times.” A man say, and you recognize two out of six, both were your guards in Belle Reve.
“Don't leave too many bruises. She'll be with Batman in ten minutes, he'll notice.”
Ten minutes... You're going back. This truck in taking you back. Lowering your head, you smile, breathing deeply.
“She was with the Task Force. He'll think she got them there.”
“Fine then.” You're pulled back, a dark, heavy fabric covering your head. “This is just to remind you of who you are, Havoc.”
“And to give you a nice memory of home.”
The beating starts, and your body easily collapses to the floor again. But you're lifted up, again and again. You should fight. You should do something, but you can't. You're not the superpowerful girl you thought you were. You break too, and you get hurt. And you are hurt, with countless cuts and wounds through your body. When you were high on whatever they gave you, you could keep moving. Now you can't. Being vulnerable, weak, feels awful, but there's just no strength in you. You just need to make it through the last ten minutes that separate you from home.
Home.
When exactly did the house became that?
Or is it Bruce? Is he the one becoming your home? Is it even possible? You hope it is.

Steamy Love (A Tom Hiddleston x Reader) Chapter 30:~Time After Time~ FINALE
Summary: The nights alone have become colder and colder, and not just because of the weather.
Warnings: Angst in the beginning.
Read it on my Wattpad: www.wattpad.com/HiddlesStar
Word count: 2596
Tags: @theoneanna @midnightdragonzero @drakesfiance @kcd15 @ihthr @deviantsendbyreallife @bookgirlunicorn @cherrygeek86 @peachlobotomy666
A/N: This is it. The final chapter. Thank you so much for everyone that has liked, reblogged, or simply read any and every chapter of this fic. It's the first fanfiction I've completed in almost 5 years, but it's the first I've ever made public on Tumblr. It may be a while until I get back into writing completely, as I've decided to ship some of my creative focus towards drawing. I'm not very good at it, but I aspire to improve. Will I show my work at all? Maybe, if there's really a demand for it (though I doubt it lmao). I may post some Oneshots here or there. We'll see.
Until then, thank you for reading.
After you'd return home, Tom would start calling you at least twice a day for the next couple weeks. You didn't have the heart to block his number, but you certainly weren't going to pick up and talk to him. You couldn't believe what had happened at that event. You couldn't believe you allowed it to happen. You were always against public sex, but you couldn't help yourself around him. It's like he had you under a spell that forced you to need him. To desire him.
That's why you needed to stay far away from him. It doesn't matter that he loves you. He hurt you, in ways you can't even explain. In ways you don't want to explain. You just wanted to forget that night. Forget your feelings.
Forget him.
Though even after a month of locking yourself into your work, you still received his calls. You kept hearing about the play he was in and how great he was doing, even though the public had finally found out that you were no longer together. You couldn't help but check up on him and his play. While it hurt to hear his name, you were proud of him. You were proud of all he had already accomplished. You wish you could just talk to him and hear him boast about it. You were so excited to talk to him more about it before the big fight. It ate away at your heart that you couldn't hear him ramble about it. Hear the excited tone in his voice. You didn't want to stay mad at him, especially after the last thing he said to you...
Did he mean it? Did he...love you? Really love you? In truth, you were tired of being angry. You just wanted a chance to talk, but everytime he'd call you, you'd freeze up. You wouldn't, or couldn't answer.
That night, you really couldn't get to sleep, and you couldn't put on a happy smile for a stream. All you could really do is lay in bed with your phone beside you, quietly thinking to yourself.
You heard your phone begin to ring, looking at the Caller ID. You recognized the number. It was Tom.
You felt your heart flutter a little. You've been thinking about him all day, and you had wondered if these calls were ever going to stop. Did you even want them to stop?
Before the ringing would stop, you picked up the phone and answered it, holding it up to your ear. You heard nothing. Not even breathing.
"...Hello?..." You whispered, already feeling your emotions flare up. "...Tom?.."
"...You picked up.." You heard him speak, his tone sounding a little shaky. Had he been crying?
"Y-Yeah, I know..." You smirked slightly, sitting up some. "I-I guess I had to, eventually.."
"You...haven't picked up at all...f-for weeks.." Tom whispered. "I-I've just...been calling to hear your voicemail."
That hit you rather harder than you expected it to, already feeling tears well up in your eyes. You didn't want to get emotional again, but it was hard not to. He sounded sad.
"H...How's the play been?.." You asked, giving a shaky smile.
"Good.." You heard a half laugh from Tom. "I-It's been...fun. I...wish you could see it."
You frowned a little, closing your eyes to let some tears slowly fall down your cheeks.
"...Me too.." You admitted, giving a shaky breath. "I...I'm...tired of being angry. I want to talk.."
Tom let out another sigh, taking a minute to find the right words before speaking up again.
"...I was wrong to get angry at you.." Tom spoke, his voice a little shaky again. "I shouldn't of said the things I said, and I should've let you speak for yourself instead of barging out of that house and leaving you with all that paperwork. I regret it. I regret it all. I regret everything I did to you to make you upset, (Y/N).."
You frowned deeply, the hand holding the phone becoming a little shaky. You believed him, but part of you still hurt. He really did break your heart.
You sniffled somewhat, knowing he heard it. "D-Did you mean it?.." You finally managed to ask, your body shivering a little.
"I didn't mean to make you upset.." Tom spoke, though he was a little confused with what you meant.
"I-I mean...at the show.." You let out a shaky breath. "W-When you said you loved me...did you mean it? Or--Or was is just from the heat of the moment?.."
"...I meant it." Tom admitted, giving a slight sad chuckle. "I absolutely mean it. I love you.."
You couldn't help but smile, your heart fluttering up again. You placed a hand on your chest, feeling your heartbeat increase.
"...I love you too, Tom.." You spoke, holding back a slight sob.
You heard Tom give a shaky chuckle. You could practically see his big smile in your head. You missed that smile dearly. You wished you could see it again.
"S-So.." Tom calmed himself, clearing his throat a bit. "Wh-What now? Will you take me back?"
You smiled a little. "D-Do you think this would work? A long distance sort of thing?.." You asked.
"If I could fly you down here to be with me, I would.." Tom admitted. "But this play has me incredibly busy. I hardly have time to walk Bobby in the morning.."
"And I barely have the assets and time to actually start a moving process.." You frowned slightly. "Moving to another country, as much as I want it, would be ridiculously hard on my own."
You and Tom both went quiet for a moment, both of you really thinking about this. Neither of you had the time to help you get to him, but neither of you wanted to be apart for months. Who knows what else may come up during Tom's play? He could end up being gone until Christmas or something. You wanted to see him.
"I'm sure I'll think of something.." Tom finally spoke, smiling a little. "I promise. I'll find a way to you.."
"Don't start throwing money around to get to me.." You chuckled a bit, making him laugh as well. "As much as I miss you, I can wait for as long as you need me to."
"I'm not sure I can.." Tom admitted, letting out a slight sigh. "I'd love to catch
up with you on everything, but it's nearly 3 in the morning and I need to get some sleep.." Ah, you had forgotten about the Timezone differences. He's all the way up in London now, after all.
"I promised to call you before the play. I promise.."
"Okay.." You smiled warmly. "I-I love you, Tom.."
"And I love you, (Y/N). Truly.." He spoke in a warm tone. It made your chest feel all warm.
"Goodnight."
"Goodnight.."
He hung up first after that.
You set your phone down, feeling your heartbeat once more as a few more tears slipped down your cheeks. You forgave him and admitted that you loved him, but would you really be okay having to wait months and months to see him again? You just wanted to be in his arms again and feel his lips on yours. You were scared of how long you'd potentially have to wait.
Despite that, you were able to get some nice rest. You dreamed of the day you'd get to lay in his arms.
And it would come sooner than you thought.
Another month went by, and you had gotten yourself on to a talk show to talk about your rising fame and upcoming movie. You had never been on one before, so you made sure to doll yourself up a little bit and wear a nice dress. It would be weird going up there on your own, but you had heard and seen from other interviews that the talk show host man was really nice. After fixing yourself up in the mirror, you saw the show start. The talk show host introduced you to the audience before calling you on stage. You smiled brightly as you climbed the stairs and went on stage, seeing all of the people from the audience begin to cheer. All of those people made a permanent bright smile appear on your face. You waved at everyone with a soft chuckle before sitting down on the soft sofa, shaking the show hosts hand as everyone quieted down.
"So nice to have someone new for a change!" The host spoke with a chuckle.
"It feels amazing to be here.." You admitted with a bright smile, crossing your legs.
"So, you've got your first movie coming out, eh? Got yourself quite the co-star, I hear.." They began, leaning forward a bit on their desk. "How was that?"
You chuckled again. People had learned that you and Tom were back together, so you've never stopped hearing about him.
"Yeah. We actually had to live together by that little outdoor set.." You admitted. "I messed up with renting one of the houses, so he let me stay with him."
"And that's how you fell in love, yeah?" The host grinned, being interrupted by the audience clapping for a moment before they'd quiet down. That was so surreal to see.
"I always hear about flings happening between costars on set.." You admitted. "But...my time with him was much more than that. He's treated me better than most, that's for sure."
"You haven't seen him since the beginning of the year, yes?" The host asked. "Has that been hard for you?"
You smiled sadly, placing a hand on your chest some. "It's not impossible, but it's been hard. I'm not upset about it, though. We've both become incredibly busy rather quickly. He's got his play, which I hear is amazing, and I've been streaming practically 7 times a week now that I've had the time again."
"Well, it's good to know you're staying optimistic." The host replied.
"Yeah.." you nodded a bit. "It's been...a little harder these last couple days, though. We call each other multiple days a week."
"Do you have a song you like to listen to?" The host asked, smirking some. "One that reminds you of him?"
You took a moment to really think about that. The question brought you back to the time you and Tom went to the grocery store and Time After Time came on the radio in the car, and when he kissed you in front of everyone in that clothing shop, the same song played. You had downloaded the song on to your phone after that day. You didn't realize how important it was to you until now. Tom even had it on his phone, last time you checked.
"Cyndi Lauper's 'Time After Time', maybe?.." You admitted with a shy chuckle. "It's played a couple times during my days with Tom. I downloaded it after people found out we were together because it was playing in that clothing store when he kissed me."
"Awe, that's sounds perfect.." The host smiled brightly, one of his hands moving under the desk. "You think Tom would give the same answer?" They asked.
"I mean, he's into the older styles of music.." You chuckled, a little confused. "I could call him and ask him later.."
You were too focused on the show host to hear footsteps come upstairs on to the stage, though the surprise was ruined by the sudden erupting screams and applause from the audience.
You turned around just in time for the host to start playing that song over the little speaks around set as you and the man locked eyes.
It was Tom.
You couldn't believe it.
Your eyes immedietly watered as you got up from your seat and ran to Tom, seeing him open out his arms to you. You ran right into his arms, wrapping your arms around his body. You almost didn't believe that this was real. It felt like a dream. How was he here? How did he make time for this?
You pulled back and cupped his face with both hands, already nearly sobbing just from the sight of him.
"Are you actually here!?" You asked with a happy whimper. It warmed your heart to see his big smile. He was emotional, too.
"I managed to find some extra time to get a flight down.." Tom chuckled, though he wasn't able to explain himself fully just yet. Hearing his voice so close to you made you want to just break into happy tears right then and there, so you pulled him into a deep, passionate kiss. You heard the audience go nuts, making you smile in the kiss. Tom pulled you closer to him, keeping the kiss locked until he remembered you were supposed to be doing an interview. He pulled back and gestured to the seats, holding your hand as you both sat down.
You could barely keep your eyes off of Tom for the whole rest of the interview. Afterwards, you'd say goodbye to everyone and leave the building together. You spoke outside once you reached his car.
"I've got another surprise for you.." Tom admitted, giving you a warm smile as he let go of your hand. He moved into his car for a moment and pulled out something before going back to you. He revealed 2 one-way tickets. Tickets to the UK.
"Would you still like to move in with me, my love?.." He asked you, looking into your eyes with his big, blue orbs.
Your eyes widened some and your heart skipped a beat. You placed your hand over your mouth before giving a shaky chuckle. "A-Are you serious?..." You asked, seeing him nod.
"With one phone call to a familiar moving company and a day or two, you can be living with me.." Tom spoke. "All I need is a Y--"
"Yes! Hell yes!" You chuckled happily before wrapping your arms around his neck, pulling him into another close hug. Tom flinched before chuckling, hugging you back for a moment before pulling back to give you another deep kiss, inhaling some to take in how soft your lips were. The joy you felt in your heart couldn't be properly described.
You pulled back from the kiss to wipe all the tears that had run down your cheeks, including some of the makeup makeup had on. "I'm gonna end up crying all day.." you joked with a chuckle.
Tom chuckled as well, smirking some. "I could give you other reasons to have tears in your eyes.."
Oh god, you had a feeling he hadn't gotten over this flirtatious phase he's had with you.
Then again...
You chuckled some. "It's been a couple months hasn't it?" You asked, biting yhe corner of your lower lip.
"Mhmm.." Tom purred somewhat "and I've learned some things.."
"Have you, now?.." You tilted your head some, getting a nod from Tom.
"Indeed I have.." Tom grinned. "And there's a certain...doctor who has been dying to meet you."
You knew who he was talking about. You recently rewatched High-Rise.
"Ooh, I guess I shouldn't keep him waiting, then.." You purred back with a little wink, moving around him to get into the passenger side.
Tom snickered some, getting into the drivers side.
You bet there would be quite a bit of steamy love after packing.

Ooh! Yes! Here are some of my favourites! I'll try to focus on comics that have as much bonding, found family vibes, or well written relationships as I can.
1) No Man's Land
Okay, this is a super long arc (6 volumes, ~100 issues) that takes place in the Pre New 52 continuity (the best). An earthquake struck Gotham, destroying almost everything. And get despite this it really carries a message of hope. The people of Gotham are survivors. A couple notes: This is Cassandra's first appearance!!! She doesn't have a name yet, but you'll know it's Cass! And here she's Batgirl! Also, Bruce is alone for a long part of this, but one of the most important parts of the story is when he realises "wait, I honestly can't do this alone. I need my family." Also be sure to read Road To No Man's Land volumes 1&2 first.
Batfam Members Present: Bruce, Alfred, Dick, Babs, Tim, Jean-Paul, Cass, Steph (briefly)
2) Batman and the Signal
Okay, so this is technically Duke Thomas' three issue solo series, but one of the main themes of the story is Family. And it has a lot between Bruce & Duke. I honestly just suggest checking it out because it's fun! And Duke Thomas is awesome. (It's a Rebirth comic, btw)
Batfam Members Present: Duke, Bruce, & others in the background
3) DCeased
Okay, I'm hesitant to suggest this one. One one hand, it is an absolute MASTERPIECE. Tom Taylor own my heart for ever and ever, his writing is just so dang good. Characterization for everyone is perfect! Especially for Damian, Talia, and Steph. On the other hand though... It's sad in places. And there's a lot of death. But I think it's worth it? Well, you can decide for yourself. Note: I'm referencing DCeased, DCeased: Unkillables, DCeased: Hope at World's End, and DCeased: Dead Planet.
Batfam Members Present: Damian, Jason, Cass, Steph, Alfred, and Talia
4) Batgirl (2009)
Stephen's Batgirl solo! This is so good, really. It doesn't have all the Batfam members, but her interactions with Damian are just so good! And her relationships with Dick and Barbara are great too. (Fyi: I haven't finished reading this. But what I have read is awesome!)
Batfam Members Present: Steph, Damian, Babs, Dick
5) Li'l Gotham
I haven't read this yet, but I have friends who have! And I've seen panels.
Batfam Members Present: Bruce, Damian, Dick, Tim, Jason
6) Batgirl (2000)
Cass' Batgirl run is easily one of the best written comics I have ever come across! I just love it so much. I honestly think it's a must-read. (Note: it follows No Man's Land by a few months. You don't need to read it first, but just be aware of that)
Batfam Members Present: Cass, Bruce, Babs, Steph, Dick, Tim
7) Young Justice (90's)
Okay, so it's not Batfam. But it has Tim! And holy crap is it funny and well written! This is easily one of my "comfort reads", it's just so lighthearted and is filled to the brim with Team-As-Family vibes.
Batfam Members Present: Tim, Dick, Bruce, Steph
8) Red Hood and the Outlaws (Rebirth)
Same for Young Justice, with some more batfam stuff. (Bruce and Jason have some AWESOME panels!) Don't read #25 or later though, that's when everything goes to crap.
Batfam Members Present: Jason, Bruce
9) Robin: Son of Batman
Damian's oh so short solo series. I really can't tell you how much I love it. Really, Gleason is a WIZARD when it comes to writing! Damian is fantastic, as are the new characters he brings in. I garruntee you'll cry at how sweet Goliath's origin is. And his interactions with Maya are BEAUTIFUL.
Batfamily Members Present: Damian, Talia, others for very brief moments (including: Duke, Jason, Tim, & Dick)
So these are just overal somebody favourite comics. If you have any other specifications, like a preferred character or a more specific genre/tone/vibe of comic you want, I'd be happy to help!
Also, if you want elaborations on the list I just gave (like more detailed summaries, where to get the comics, or reading orders), let me know! I'm always willing to take sometime and help people out.
can i pls get some batfam comic recs for my brother
