The Curse Of Hope

Danny is in another universe. He had a reason, but he doesn’t remember anymore. He can only stare, horrified and disgusted, at the sickest city spirit he’s ever seen. Shivering and swaying with every step, core exposed, and ectoplasm leaking from wounds that are decades old. A ratty blanket was thrown over their shoulders, barely hiding the spirit’s pale grey skin and protruding black bones.

The spirit didn’t even sense him until he reached out to touch its wispy shoulders. The spirit flinched, clutching at the dozens of trinkets hanging from their neck and tucking in on themselves like they were expecting a blow.

“Oh, shit,” He swore, floating back a few feet, hands in the air, to show he meant no harm. “I’m sorry. I promise, I’m not here to steal from you.” The spirit shivered again and rolled a pearl necklace in between their fingers. A nervous habit. “Uh, I like that pocket watch? It’s very nice.”

That got their attention. They peeked at Danny, and he saw that more tattered cloth was covering their eyes, blending in with the stringy hair that reached the ground. Their blanket fluttered weakly, revealing hundreds of thousands of tiny marks etched into their skin. Scars, really. Scars that wrote out curse after curse onto the spirit’s very being. They burned with evil intent, and even reached inside the spirit’s body and wrapped around their core.

Occasionally, blinding specks of color raced across their body, temporarily erasing the writing, but it always returned quickly. He watched, a little detached, as one particular line rewrote itself across their rough forearm, drawing fresh ectoplasm like someone was writing it with a thin knife.

“Are you…alright?” Danny stuttered. A stupid question.

The spirit cocked its head. He couldn’t see their eyes, but he felt their burning gaze as they pondered the question.

“The pain of others becomes mine own.” They rasped. “The lights of the city dim as rotten wealth clogs mine veins. Magicks long forgotten have eaten mine skins, pulled mine cloak, and darkened mine skies. Helios has refused to grace mine doorstep, and the seasons of the Earth have revoked their kindness.”

Danny held his breath. It felt like he was the one with the exposed core, not the spirit.

The spirit shivered once more. “Tell mine soul, little lamb. How could this Forsaken City know peace, when it was long since ripped from mine hands?”

Shit, he needed Frostbite. And maybe Clockwork. Now.

Danny meets the spirit of Gotham City. The villains and rogues that have plagued the city for decades are literal curses that are taking quite the toll on Gotham, and honestly, Danny isn’t sure how much longer they can hold out. The heroes seem to be doing some help, and are probably the reason Gotham made it this far, but the poor city needs help from the Realms if they want to get better.

Luckily, Danny can provide that help.

But only if he could get Gotham to leave their city behind. Because recovery is going to take a very long time.

The citadel dlc is so good and fun and perfect except for the fact that it’s living out my good friend kaidans worst nightmare in real life. Like. Imagine you’re in love with a guy and you don’t say anything and then he goes and dies. He gets himself sucked into the vacuum of space bc he has to be the hero. And that’s fine bc that’s part of why you love him but it still means he’s fucking dead. And then 2 years later you see him again but it can’t be him bc he died and he’s working with the enemy and clearly this must be some kind of weird show of power by cerberus bc he can’t be back and if he was he would have told me and he wouldn’t be with these people. So when he begs you to come with him you have to say no even though losing him the first time was like losing a limb. Even though you would have followed him anywhere bc this can’t be him it just can’t. And then time passes and you realize it was really him and more time passes you tell him you love him and more time passes and you’re happy together and then you see the real version of what you thought you were seeing on Horizon. You’re seeing the shell of the man that you love and he’s trying to kill you and you don’t know how you could have ever thought your Shepard was like this bc seeing it in real life is a million times worse. And then you have to watch him kill himself.

If Dream was given the BIGGEST. LARGEST. benefit of a doubt of all time, then the truth is:

He isn’t careful with his words or actions.

He CANNOT fathom the consequences of his carelessness.

He can’t be bothered to consider the responsibility of his position before making decisions that inadvertently hurt other people because his fanbase is large, has negative actors, and speak on his behalf. DESPITE whatever he actually intended.

This leads to speculation from those outside of his fan base on his intention, insight to his unconscious motives and exposes his ignorance.

He is impulsive (in his words), prideful, and entitled. It prevents him from understanding the above points.

He is somewhat narrowminded and shortsighted when having to deal with said consequences.

It alludes him why certain topics need to be treated with the seriousness and severity it deserves.

It immensely upsets him that he cannot control his image to the wider public.

For some reason he cannot see that context doesn’t matter as much as the impact does. He focuses SO MUCH on explaining WHY something happened instead of acknowledging YES, it happened. He downplays those consequences in order to emphasize his “rationality”.

Perhaps creators should be taught how to handle an audience before being thrusted into having a sphere of influence.

As Tubbo said, being sexist/racist/etc is technically subjective. I do believe Dream isn’t purposefully racist, sexist, homophobic etc. That is my BOD for him. That’s what he believes for himself also. This is NOT, HOWEVER, how his words and actions come off. It can be interpreted as sexist, racist, transphobic, sinophobic etc to the wider audience. Not to mention the manipulative tactics and weaponized incompetence. He doesn’t realize this, which is why he’s so confused and trying so hard to control the perception of himself.

I think the way some portions of the fandom treat arranged marriage is very interesting because I have such a differing view on the topic that makes it impossible for me to find a middle ground with a good deal of people.

I understand that some people see arranged marriages in asoiaf as an equivalent to modern marriages, but, in my opinion, that’s a false equivalence.

Truthfully, I believe there’s a genuine double standard and a severely hypocritical attitude about the topic as well. I know for certain that people wouldn’t care if one or both parties of certain cases of arranged marriages “cheat,” and perhaps they would even cheer the characters on, but when it comes to x or y character this suddenly becomes the most grievous of sins. I realize that this is a bit of a blanket statement to make, so I want to clarify that I know the topic is more nuanced than what I’ve made it seem like. However, I believe that at the core of this stance lies a deeply rooted hypocrisy and double standard.

What am I talking about? Well I’m talking about some portions of the fandoms views on Rhaegar and Lyanna’s potential love story. Tbh this seems like the only thing I ever post about nowadays 🤦‍♀️

Anyways, if you specifically take issue with the “cheating” portion of Rhaelya’s relationship, then do you apply the same standards to all the other “cheaters”? No matter what? No matter who? No matter how that marriage was forced upon x or y character?

As for me, I only consider there to have been cheating in an arranged marriage if the characters were in love. Because at that point, the arranged marriage becomes an actual equivalent to a modern marriage.

Nedcat? If they had other partners then I’d call it cheating.

Doran and Mellario? If they had other partners while still together then I’d consider that to be cheating.

Dany and Hizdahr? That’s like the definition of a political marriage so no Dany is not cheating when she’s with Daario.

Cersei and Robert? Nope. Not cheating. I’m glad they both had other partners.

Rhaegar getting with Lyanna while married to Elia? Since I always attempt to be consistent, I’ll have to say I don’t consider that to be cheating :)

I think there are a few genuine grievances to have, and I do understand if you’re uncomfortable with the likely canon pairing, but these headcanons and fanonland shit takes are getting out of control. Y’all gotta stop acting like your personal interpretations of the text are actual canon. Please. Stop. Get some help. The whole ‘you can’t argue with me because somehow my interpretation is superior’ nonsense and the ‘this is the one true truth’ makes any discussion on the topic stale.

I and many other people (i don’t actually know if other people share this grievance with me but i’d bet a penny that at least one person does) are tired of having to constantly repeat that we do not know what went down before and during the rebellion. We do not know what situations the characters of that time period were in, and we do not know why they chose to do what they did.

Just now when I was scrolling on reddit I was reminded that we don’t even know what Robert’s true thoughts were about the murders of Elia and her children. Like bruh look how little we know. So stop it with the ‘this character did this because of this I just know and you must go along with my bs’

In chapter 56, we see this picture of the interpersonal dynamics of Laios’s party pre-story. 

There’s somebody not shown who’s attracted to the hubby-hunter and hates Laios (probably as a direct result). Somebody she considers a prospect.

There’s also one person who 1. We know was part of Laios’s party pre-story, and 2. Is not shown in this panel. 

Am I crazy? It doesn’t look like it worked out, especially given that he left before she did, but do you think Dandan could have had a thing for her? Do you think that might have been part of the reason Chilchuck disapproved of her behavior so strongly?

urgent question: if you have any tips about recognizing undercover cops and ICE agents please write below. I never thought my very liberal state would come to this but I live in an area with a very high level of immigrants + multiple municipalities are basically de facto sanctuary cities since they have extra protections written into local law

I work at a healthcare facility that sees high numbers of new americans (with varying ‘legal’ statuses). there are reports from individuals within the local spanish speaking whatsapp channels that ICE is stopping people on their way to our healthcare facility. I can’t disclose too much without revealing highly identifying information about who I am and where I work, but higher management is not handling this good enough. everyone in my department (social work) is outraged and will do whatever it takes to protect the people we serve regardless of management. they deny it’s happening because it wasn’t happening when they went outside to look but that doesn’t mean shit- they’re 100% making rounds and patrolling. we are likely going to start taking walks during our limited breaks around the neighborhood to keep lookout. I’d much rather have a patient do telehealth or reschedule, or have them wait in my office an extra 20 minutes instead of possibly getting stopped by undercover agents. with the recent executive orders healthcare facilities aren’t even respected as sensitive locations discouraged from being raided anymore.

so yeah. any tips on spotting any undercover cops/ICE would be swell. funnily enough I have been thinking a lot about that one thing eliot said about undercover law enforcement and shoes. I’ve also been researching that already + rights and what to tell patients + everything else I can think of BUT thought I’d float it out here as well
