Ranking mxtx couples by whether or not I think they'd be good parents
(I'm 90% sure I'm forgetting someone)
Yep, next question (S)-
Wangxian: tried and tested good dads. I wish them luck with the whole “trying to get wwx pregnant” thing
They have some shit to work through, but after that I think they'd be fine (A)-
Ling Wen/ Bai Jin: if we're just going off the original publication, I would put them in a much lower tier, but since the revised edition added that thing about them raising orphans together and said orphans turning out alright before unfortunate circumstances, I'm putting them up here. I think they'll be alright once they work through the miscommunication
Xiao Xingchen/ Song Lan: They obviously have a lot of trauma they're working through, but I'd like to think they and A-Qing will be a loving family in the long run
One of them would be a good parent, the other wouldn't be a bad parent (B)-
Jiang Yanli/ Jin Zixuan: there's no canon reason for me putting them this low. Jin Zixuan just gives off a mediocre parent vibe to me (and we all know Jiang Yanli is the best)
Yushipei: Yushi Huang has good mom energy, and Pei Ming has been shown to be a not terrible mentor. I'd want the misogyny fully beaten out of him with a mace before I'd think he should have kids of his own though
Lang Qianqiu/ Little Guy: at the very least, they're making sure Guzi is fed, clothed, washed, vaccinated, and has access to education. Neither of them know what they're doing, but I think Little Guy is good at faking it. I wish them luck in their upcoming custody battle
You know what, surprise me/ I'll hear you out (C)-
Bingqiu: My first instinct is “no, do not bring kids into this,” but then I remembered tharnShen Qingqiu has a surprisingly decent track record? Like, Ning Yingying and Ming Fan both turned out a lot more health than they did in the original novel, and though I wouldn't call him in a good place, Binghe is doing a lot better than Bingge. The wild card for me here is Luo Binghe because I have no idea how he'd be with kids
Quanyin: Yin Yu had a decent track record until he was pushed into snapping. I think rn, he needs a couple centuries of being a babygirl before he's ready to parent again. No idea how Quan Yizhen would do though
Born to “dual income, no kids, rich uncles/aunts” (D)-
Fengqing: Feng Xin is canonically a bad dad. I know he's working on it, but it is what it is. Mu Qing has been shown to be decent with kids, but I think he’d have a melt down if he had to deal with the mess constantly.
Hualian: I mean, Xie Lian has raised three kids at this point and one of them became a god, another became state preceptor and then sorta complicit in a genocide, and one became god AND committed genocide + he babysat a ghost king for months and didn't even realize that's what he was because it was a miracle if he remembered to feed him… so, a mixed bag. Hua Cheng may be schrodinger’s child hater, but I'm intrigued by the idea of him raising kids just because I want to know how his own childhood would influence his parenting abilities. They should probably just stick to babysitting for now though
Mingling: Liu Mingyan is too busy writing gay porn to be dealing with kids, and I just can't imagine Sha Hualing as a mom
Please don't bring a kid into this mess (F)-
Beefleaf: Do I need to explain this one?
Mobeishang: Shang Qinghua should not be put in any position where he has to teach someone about consent (Binghe’s early attempts at flirting being a prime example of why that's a bad idea). I also think Mobei Jun is still working on the whole “why hitting people is not cool” thing.
QiJiu: I think the original timeline is a prime example of how they're just not in a place to be raising kids
Jun Wu/ Mei Nianqing: Xie Lian would like a refund on his adopted father figures. They had one kid and he only made it to age 20 because he was cursed to not die

I wonder if Spinel feels potentially threatened by Gibeon and Amethio's bond.. the way he phrased it, that Amethio is special to Gibeon and that because of this, he'd get in their way eventually, made me wonder if somehow, he needs Gibeon to keep going on the way he is right now and that perhaps Amethio could be a source of doubt to Gibeon.
Agate's words about blood ties that could lead to hardship now and then made me curious too. I feel like this could be a hint to Agate's circumstances and that she is not just describing Amethio and Gibeon's situation, but also her own. She's only said elusive things so far (back in HZ056, she talked to Dot about how some things are better left unknown and didn't elaborate further).
I wonder if Agate has some ties to the original Explorers? It also felt quite personal to Spinel too since he talked about the future of the Explorers. I thought this was only a job to him, but maybe this is going a bit deeper than that if he wants to ensure their future? He seemingly wasn't only in it for himself either, since he mentioned Amethio getting in "their" way (plural form, so it seems like he includes Agate and potentially the others too). The Explorers were Lucius's friends, but we still don't exactly know what that implies. Were they human friends, and were there several of them that could be connected to Spinel and Agate?
Also now that we've seen what the Rakurium can do to Pokemon, Gibeon's current situation is worrying. Man is constantly stuck in a room filled with Rakurium alongside Zygarde. Last time Amethio visited him, they were separated by glass and Amethio couldn't step in that room. I wonder if constant exposure to Rakurium messed up Gibeon on some level or had negative effects on him? His Zygarde seemed to be adjusted to it, so maybe they're both past the point of reacting negatively to it and are used to it. Or maybe it doesn't have negative effects on humans.
Either way, now that Amethio has seen firsthand what the Rakurium can do, I wonder if he'll still want to acquire more of it for Gibeon. He looked shocked when he saw how Spinel's Blacky reacted to it. Maybe he'll start having doubts, or at least question himself. There is the implication that Gibeon needs more of the Rakurium to live (maybe?), but it doesn't exactly seem to be a blessing either.

Fortunately, neither of them had to wait long-June and Wilhelm, unable to sleep on account of their son's absence, had been sitting up wide awake in the living room, and were thus able to run to the door when they heard Emily's call. June threw open the door, and Randall, in an effort to stand on his own two feet, moved to collapse against her, mumbling, "Ma...Emily...saved me..."
"What?"
"She didn't...hurt me..." he continued, voice strained as he spoke-even through the haze of pain hanging over him, he wanted to make it as clear as possible that Emily saved his life. "Got mugged...she saved me..."
"Shh, shh, don't speak," she soothed, her expression uncertain as she looked between her badly battered son and the vampire standing on the front porch. She wasn't sure what to say, but for now, she settled for bringing Randall inside, asking Wilhelm to bring her the first aid kit, something he rushed to do, sparing an equally uncertain look towards Emily as he hurried upstairs.
Once he'd had a chance to lie down and recover, letting his mother tend to his wounds, Randall was able to explain the full story of what had transpired that evening-how Emily had coming seemingly out of nowhere to rescue him, opting not to drain his attackers, but instead give them a good scare before rushing him home.
"And she didn't...bite you...?" Wilhelm asked, keeping his voice low as Randall took a deep drink from his water glass, saying, "No, Pa, she didn't." She had every opportunity to do so, but she didn't. He hoped that would be enough to change their minds about her, as he ventured to ask:
"Can you...can you please bring her in?"
At this request, his parents exchanged a nervous look-should they? Would she turn vengeful as soon as she crossed that threshold? The look in their son's eyes said no...
...but that was a painful concept in itself, as it meant that they had been wrong about her all this time...
Swallowing back their worries, June gave her husband a curt little nod, and so, with some hesitance, some lingering uncertainty, Wilhelm slowly opened the front door, letting Emily into their home once more.

[trust your gut cause the way you write Man-Bat is very well done. Writing a character who cannot talk let alone is some kind of feral animal is hard to pull off but you do it so well. Using bat body language and keeping a great balance between where Man-Bat's animalistic nature begins and ends. Also some descriptions read so well, I can clearly picture the scene like it was from BTAS. (The tearing up the book on vampire bats mating was hilarious.) You have good judgement, so keep doing what you're doing!]
[Thank you so much for taking the time to send such a lovely message, friend! Not gonna lie, this was VERY reassuring to read as that's what I was trying to go for? Muses who cannot speak require a different approach from those who can, and trying to convey body language and thoughts, much less from a feral point of view is a completely different take from what I'm normally used to! It's challenging but in a very fun way, trying to keep things as 'realistic' as possible... well, as realistic as it can be when it comes to this science-induced horror so having Man-Bat being more calculating and cautious, being so animalistic in his approach is thrilling to write.
Predators don't just tackle their prey. There's very real risk to them and vampire bats are no exception, needing to be sneaky about the way they feed. Man-Bat is a whole other kind of beast, utilizing his latent human intelligence so trying to keep with that BTAS theme and hearing that it's coming across so well to you warms my heart, truly! Thank you again for making my day! 🍊]
