A side effect of getting into digimon is that it’s like. Really made me appreciate Mechas more and robot designs? Combined as well with reading comics like Atomic Robo and then last week watching bang brave bang Bravern. For years my interactions with mecha media was like, Trying to force myself to enjoy transformers, and unfortunately I just don’t think it’s a media franchise for me and it really stifled my ability to enjoy mecha as a genre because of trying to pigeonhole into that. I suppose this is a very roundabout way to say that if anyone has any mecha recommendations hit an ant up about this. And that I've also started getting into gunpla/mecha model kit building- I've made two so far (: and I have another kit I'd like to make soon. If you wanna see pics send me an ask and ill dm them
#dinu yells into the void#dinu yells in the void#tbh honestly at this point this isnt even a comic book blog no more. this is just like. ants general im doing whatever the fuck i want blog#i should really redo my card to reflect that lol 😭😭#but im lazy as hell#anyways. i think ive always genuinely liked robots#like i really love 853rd hourman whose like an android#i liked watching ghost in the shell#but i dont think i was ever properly hyperfixated on them or wanted to try and draw them like This Year#thanks to digimon#again no hate at all to transformers but trying to force myself to be a transformers guy really fucked with my relationship with mechas#or general robot media#i just cant make myself get invested in the lore for tf ) : im sorry#tf is like my lovely long distance friend that ppl i know are rly into but who i only know in passing and thats fine with me#im trying to rebuild my relationship w mech stuff hence the mecha model kit building. i literally just bought that shit on a whim tbh after#remembering gundam kits exist when going to comic con#but it was honestly really fun to do since ive also been trying to repair my relationship with sculpture crafts#via trying to make my own puppets and more abstract forms of sculpture#idk any of the lore for like gundams or mecha kits#so far my like buying philosophy has been getting the kits under 20 euros that just look really cute to me#maybe one day ill get into gundam for real. im open to any media suggestions!#anyways byeee i gotta get ready for the day

Hello ! I've been following you for some time and I really like how you draw mechas and robots :o I would want to learn how to draw mechas too but i'm kinda struggling (especially making original design), do you have any tips to get started / resources to learn the basics ?
Thank u :)
Shit, I haven't checked Tumblr in a while, sorry about that Well, drawing mecha at the end of the day is not that different from drawing people/creatures in terms of constructing the figure out of basic shapes (cubes, cylinders etc). You just layer different texture on top and are more free to break rules like anatomy and proportion because well, it's a machine. So it comes down to your art fundamentals and how you apply them like any other subject matter tbh In terms of making original designs, best device I have is be curious! Don't feel like you have to be constrained to the established tropes of mecha/robots when making them, some of the best designs take inspiration from outside sources. Household appliances, insects and sealife, other mechanical things like cars, planes or trains, are some of my personal picks And in terms of coming up with something wholly original, a sure fire way I found is to first think of a purpose for the machine and work backwards towards features that add to that purpose. Even works for something ridiculous and silly like say, 'mech can do one extremely powerful attack but blows up afterwards'. You work on that idea enough, add compensation and counterweight so the machine isn't a complete failure, and you get mechs such as Armored Core 5's ACs equipped with one-use Overred weapons that tear their arms off afterwards, and the Silver Bullet Suppressor from Gundam that uses a beam rifle so powerful it has a bunch of replaceable arms because the recoil keeps destroying them. Hope this helps, and good luck with the mech drawings! You already seem to have a good eye for style, so I'm sure you'll do well with it

Armored Core 6 1st Impressions
Hook it into my veins. HOOK IT IN TO MY VE--
I've been on the fence about Armored Core ever since Bloodborne got me into Fromsoftware's catalogue and I started playing mature games with higher difficulties for bigger gammer kids
Normally I don't care for any mecha media that strays into darkness and the horrors of war--yes, I was a bit of a dumb kid--but after some maturing, I gave it another shot. Soon enough I was hooked, but I when I got into AC I never thought I would be playing a new entry soon or enjoying it this much!
Perhaps it was Bloodborne's high difficulty and risk/reward gameplay loop or Devil May Cry 3's cathartic combination of challenge and style, but when I finally got to AC6 it clicked.
I've always liked games with heavy robots that combined fast movement with tense combat since I played Transformers War for Cybertron & Fall of Cybertron way back in the day (my first big T for Teen boy games, too!), so it does make sense.
Even better, one of the big draws for AC6 for me was how much it's landscapes reminded me of High Moon Studios' car-robot shooters--a vast expanse of machinery, constructs far beyond any human scale, and the backdrop of a dying but beautiful world. But AC6 surpasses that in so many ways thanks to both a unique setting with more organic touches, as well as Fromsoft's iconic attention to detail in regards to environments. I think it says something that Fires of Rubicon's titular planet is the first environment in a mission based game where I wanted to just wander around the planet forever.
I'm still getting a hold of the combat. It's much faster but also much less forgiving than even Bloodborne's was. Yet despite that sharp learning curve, the controls are adaptable and easy to memorize, movement starts to come naturally, combat is tight with gratifying SFX to boot, and a breadth of customization options to rival even (oooooh) Elden Ring's variety.
The best part about all that is how more than perhaps Kid Icarus Uprising or DMC3, AC6 is a game where i'm as eager as possible to replay old missions with new unlockables. The missions have straight forward objectives but how quickly and efficiently you can solve them is the challenge, and while this is no Phantom Pain (altho it does have a more palatable, if withdrawn take on "war is hell" but that's my squeamish take), the game rewards for your maximum efficiency in completing those objectives through its credit system. The less damage you take, the less ammo you use, or the more enemies you take out, the better your pay + mission rank. I'm already addicted to it.
Anyways you can thank @iamthekaijuking for giving me the last push I needed to make the impulse buy off ebay
I have nothing else intelligent to say so here's my first build
I based him partly on christmas candies because I liked the colour palettes, plus he's sweet but he didn't last long
#don't expect me to write a follow up to this i never do for these things#but I'm finishing every route and making all kinds of weird builds you bet you're ass#armored core vi#armored core 6#armored core vi fires of rubicon#ramblings of the critter#video games#first impressions#video game first impressions#review#I guess#transformers war for cybertron#transformers fall of cybertron#(tagging these as an indirect way to get people's attention)

Curtain Call
So the fight against Showtime at the top of the tower isn't exactly going well given how powerful she is, but thanks to the war down on the ground the tides are about to turn, because a stray barrage of Missile Megs from Bowser misses Metal Overlord and hits the tower about halfway up instead, doing enough damage to make everything above start to fall. Everybody realizes that their only chance of maybe surviving is to jump out the window, and, well, Kamek and Cubot are the only ones who can fly and they're obviously not strong enough to carry everyone else, so all they can really do is hope for a miracle (or at least for Meme Energy to decide it'd be funnier for them to survive the fall).
And with a roar and a call of "YYYYEEEHHHHHAAAWWW!" a miracle does arrive, as they all land on something mostly solid far higher up than they expected.
"Need a lift, piss-ants?"
"Anti-Shroomy!?" The 4 then looks down at what exactly their savior rode in on, "you tamed Draco Piranha!?"
"Yep! Turns out he's not so bad once you show him who's boss."
It's at that point that Showtime reminds us that she can just ignore gravity, and she starts throwing attacks at them, prompting a chase down towards the ground.
...okay, I'll level with you, I've got a few small scenes figured out for all this but not a coherent story to stitch them together, and at this point I just want this done so bear with me. Eventually the fight reaches the ground, the group is still on the back foot, the chaos of the battle raging around them is messing with both sides, at some point Ice Melony and Mecha Desmond show up while fighting each other and Showtime gets caught in their crossfire and blasted elsewhere on the battlefield and the main group (plus the rest of the converted crew members who've managed to come over to either help or attack depending on which conversion they have).
At this point Metal Overlord seemingly manages to overpower Castle Bowser and tries to merge with him to become even more powerful...but it takes a lot more willpower than Metal has to overwrite Bowser's, so instead we get Heavy Metal Bowser.
(not my best work or even colored in but this is what you get. junior for scale)
The good new is that now the Robot converted characters are now under Bowser's control and helping the good guys. The bad news is that Showtime had a front row seat for this.
"Well now, there's an idea." she looks over the battlefield and spies a certain royal Siren fending off a frozen king and his army almost single-handedly, and in an outfit that's almost just her style to boot, "Jackpot."
She flies over, sending out a wave of energy that knocks away everyone besides Old King Winter and Sonata. Sonata levels her trident at the newcomer, "Your energy...you're the source of all this madness, aren't you."
She laughs haughtily, "Clever as always, kiddo. Now, both of you hold still." she raises her arms towards the two and they begin to feel something being torn out of them as painfully as possible.
Streams of colored energy pour out of them and into Showtime, gradually causing all three to glow. eventually it gets so bright that they can't be seen at all, and when it dies down only one titanic figure remains.
"Alright! Goodby Queen Cutie and he-llo Empress Sexy~!"
"Two down, five to go. Now, where's the mushroom girl?" She flies off towards Toadstool Tangle.
Meanwhile, the Ice and Undersea converted people start to undergo some rather horrific transformations, with Creep growing out of them at all angles. 4 unfortunately gets a front-row seat when it happens to 3. This continues with the Mushroom conversions (so really just Draco Piranha and the Tangle itself), then the Muppets and soon after the ghosts, and finally everyone gets to witness the battle between Heavy Metal Bowser and an even more powerful version of Fusion Showtime with features added from the other three trigger characters (I unfortunately did not draw the later Fusion Showtime stages. I might in the future but for now you'll just have to use your imaginations). It's a close match, but eventually even Bowser falls, and Wonder Showtime is born while the Group stands alone once again.
It seems as though all hope is lost, especially since most of them quickly get pinned down by the horribly mutated versions of literally everyone, but 4 gets an idea, "Wait, we still have the seeds, right?"
Mario manages to yeet Luigi away and pulls out a few of their collected Wonder Seeds, "Yeah, but they don't exactly do anything besides sit in your inventory."
"Not on their own, but they're part of a meme, right? And they're a new enough one that they've got way more Meme Energy than most things at that scale. Maybe I can turn them into something we can actually use!"
Meggy looks over from where she's trying to get what might be Saiko and Tari off of Ferb, "Can you even get a meme to that kind of power on your own?"
"..." he looks to a particular section of the battlefield, eyes full of determination, "No, No I can't." he runs in the direction he was looking, tackling the mutated Admiral 3 to the ground and pulling a tentacle that used to be an arm into a death grip.
"SMG4, what are you doing!?"
"My...job!" he's assaulted by the all-too-familiar sensation of the Creep burrowing into his body, his brain, along with the horrible memories that come with it, but he holds firm, "3, if there's anything left in there that can hear me, I need you!"
There's a long few seconds where 4 can't help but think he's just thrown his life away for nothing before the seven Wonder Seeds rise up and start to morph into raw Meme Energy spheres, "work...fast...ba...ka"
The two work in tandem to merge the energy into a single sphere, which then transforms into...
A Wonder Flower. Because what else could it possibly be? This one has the strange grey-with-yellow-accents color scheme of the Special World wonder flowers.
"You've got-erhf-one shot! Make it...count!"
Whoever's left of the group nods in understanding and rushes towards the flower in the hopes of reaching it before one of the mutants, and two hands grab its petals at the same time, one gloved, the other not...and something unexpected happens.

A single figure sits on a rooftop, looking out at the sun setting over a city that no longer exists.
They are alone.
They are together.
A living monument to a bond forged in Ink and Fire.
An experience made flesh.
The moment seems to stretch on forever, as they revel in simply Being...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
But when they open their eyes, not even a second has passed.
"Holy shit."
They look down at the awestruck face (or, well, eyes) of Marcy, discovering that they're now significantly taller than either of them were before.
"I knew something crazy would happen but this..."
They grin, "I know, right? I...we?...Yeah, I feel amazing! Like I could do anything! Like-"
The earth shakes, and they look up to find that Showtime's definitely noticed the commotion, "-Liiike I'm wasting time. Let's-a go!"
They run towards the titanic villain, soon discovering that their fusion was only part of the Wonder Effect as an obstacle course of combined Super Mario and Splatoon elements springs up around them, forming a path up to their target. Obviously Showtime doesn't just sit and wait for them, attacking with everything she's got, but they tackle any challenge that comes their way with a combination of Meggy's athletics and skill and Mario's platforming prowess and Avatar powers, as well as some of the greatest reoccurring memes of both (of particular note is when they weaponize Meggy's poor cooking skills to turn an oven they found into a rocket to help them reach a higher level).
Soon enough, they reach the top of what's left of the Tower, nearly at eye level with Wonder Showtime. She leers down at them.
"And just what are you supposed to be, you little freak?"
"It's-a me, Marggy, and I'm not 'supposed' to be anything. But as long as we're both here, I guess I'll be the one to take you down."
She laughs at this, then gives them a sharklike grin, "Real cute, kids. But it's gonna take a lot more than two midgets in a trenchcoat to beat a goddess."
Marggy shrugs, "I dunno, eight on two seems like pretty good odds to me."
More laughter as she brings up her ice-covered arm, "Okay, okay. Now you die."
A blast of ice the width of an ocean liner barrels towards them, but rather than show any fear they simply activate a certain something they grabbed on their way up here: a Killer Wail Canned Special.
"NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINTENDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
The beam of sound and ink cuts through the ice magic like it's nothing, badly cracking the ice arm and, after she moves it out of the way in pain, continuing on to blast a hole in the eye on her chest. They waste no time after that, continuing along the Wonder Effect's path towards the prone titan.
She can tell what they're doing, but at her size with her injuries doesn't have the speed or strength to get away in time. Instead, she directs every last one of her mutated minions, Creep tentacles, shadow arms, and whatever else she can muster at them, "JUST DIE ALREADY!!!"
Marggy continues to be able to outrun and outfight everything thrown at them, eventually diving into the hole they made and finding themselves in a massive chamber made of creep. And right in front of them is a face they've been hoping to see all day.
She's beat up, covered in Creep, her dress ripped to shreds and crown nowhere to be seen, and just barely conscious, but when she looks up at them her eyes are as bright as ever, and she doesn't look the least bit surprised to see them, "Hey honey. How was your trip?"
The bravado Marggy's been keeping up crumbles away, and they start to tear up, "Mom..." They run towards her, pulling her into a hug as best they can given her bindings.
They stay that way for a short while, then it's back to business, "Okay, Let's finish this." they look around the room, which seems to be slowly becoming active, for some kind of weak point, eventually spotting yet another massive eye directly above Emulator, "That looks about right."
They pull out Mario's Code Bow, which apparently merged with Meggy's Splattershot so become a futuristic Tri-Stringer, and aim it up at the eye. It's at this point that Showtime starts fighting back again, lashing out from the walls with more tendrils, but it's too late, and an inky, binary-covered arrow flies straight and true clean through the eye's pupil, and the entire room becomes enveloped in blinding blue light as Showtime screams in agony.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Back outside, Showtime's outer shell is glowing just as much as the rest of her, and a shockwave of Wonder Power blasts out from her, destroying any Creep it touches and transforming the Mushroom Kingdom and its people back into their original selves. Everyone present begins to celebrate the fact that it's finally, finally over.
In the meantime, the Crew and the airship group all do their best to get their bearings and start heading towards the now rapidly shrinking glow. Which, of course, leads them right back to the old castle grounds.
Before anyone gets there, a small shape falls out of the sky and lands with a comical squeaky toy sound in the grass, standing up to reveal that it's Old Man Hobo back to his usual self "Does anyone know where I li-"
*WHAM*
Suddenly, Bowser crashes shell-first on top of him, clutching Lily to his chest. When the trigger characters had reformed up in the air, he'd made sure to grab onto her so he could break her fall. Giant superpowered turtles can handle falling from the sky, human children usually can't.
Next to land is Kermit, who hits the ground with a splat before immediately standing up, "Well. That was traumatic. Goodbye everyone, don't bother inviting me to the next arc." With that, he walks off with that G-Mod "Move doll up and down" walk that most characters use.
Peach, Floyd and Metal Sonic can all just float down, so they do so.
And finally, there's Marggy and Emulator, who use the last of the Wonder Flower's power to gently touch down right on the moat bridge, with her leaning on them once they're on solid ground and gravity takes effect.
After this there'd probably be an actual reunion scene and maybe an epilogue (plus the scene about Showtime's fate that I detailed in this post) but I am done with this arc. Duck is out, peace!

★ As far as requests go! ★ (CLOSED)
I DO take requests sometimes! But if you make a request, please keep these things in mind:
I don't draw human (or human-adjacent) characters for people. Anthro animals are fine! I just suck at drawing people currently lol.
I also don't draw full mecha. Minor robotic features are fine.
I do Not draw NSFW.
Please make sure to have reference images ready to go. The more references the better! Especially ones that aren't heavily shaded, etc.
I don't do like custom designs but I can make small changes to a character if you'd like.
I prefer to work with people's OCs, but I'm willing to draw pre-existing characters as well, depending on the character. (They still have to meet other qualifications listed here)
Please keep it to one or two characters at a time, especially if their designs are on the complex side.
Please don't ask me to draw a proper background lol.
And if you don't want me posting the artwork I make for you on my socials, let me know! Otherwise, I'll assume you're okay with it. (Also, let me know if you'd like to be linked/tagged, etc.)
Please DM me if interested! Found out the hard way that asks disappear forever after you reply to them, which makes the process a little more difficult lol. I typically check in with people with WIPS throughout the process to make sure everyone's happy with the final result. Usually, requests haven't taken me too long to complete, but I do work part-time and don't always have a ton of time on my hands, so please be patient with me as I go. :)
Thanks so much! <3

Hi!! What are some of your fave books you've read recently? I'm really curious pls feel free to ramble
Hello! I got really excited when I saw the notification, so thank you.
I've read "This is how you lose the time war" by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone, and let me tell you, it was a short book also a ride! A ride mostly because not a lot is explained, you are dropped in a scene, in a world you have limited informations about despite it being our world, you have technology, a war between the past and the present/future.
BUT! It's also a love story, some kind of enemies/rivals to lovers between Red and Blue, two women who belong to different timelines, different sides. And it's epistolary in between the scenes, and the ways the letters are made/found are explained and it's genius.
I become bored quite quickly when the romance is too much, but it was subtle and sweet when the feelings realization happened. It was definitely worth the read and I recommend it if you haven't read it.
---
I was in a bit of a reading slump for a few days and because it was becoming frustrating I read a book I already read a few times. It's called, "Quand vient la horde (when the horde comes)" by Aurélie Luong, book that came out last year so there is no translation (something I hope will happen because this book? 10/10)
A little backstory you didn't ask for, I had never heard of the book or the writer, but one day I went into my favorite bookstore and she was there, so curious I asked her to tell me about her book, and the passion in her voice when she did convinced me to buy it. It's also her first book being published, so I hope she goes far and gets more of her work published.
It happens in a medieval Korea with some Russian touch, as they have invaded the country years ago. The main character, Ivan, survives daily. He is poor, lives with his childhood (and only) friend, when, one night, he gets kidnapped by the white horde. The soldiers of the White Whore, a beautiful woman with white hair who has a goal, avenge her little sister and is not afraid to draw blood. Ivan is the bait. He wants to survive, he wants to get back to his friend and for that he has to play the horde's game. He doesn't have a choice. He does what he is told, get money, and plans his escape.
So it's also a enemies to lovers, but with vengeance being the main point of the book.
I think I could talk for hours about this book as I left a big part of my heart inside. The ending is heartbreaking honestly. The book is dark, touches sensitive subjects but it's nicely written.
-----
I have to talk about Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao. It was a book I wanted to read for so long. (and the author is extremely funny, I follow them on social medias and it's always very fun to see them)
The book has as inspiration for the main character Wu Zetian, the first and only female Emperor of China in the late 600s.
The book is science fiction, lgbtqia+, feminist, with pocs, disabled main character, poly and big robots and aliens, another enemies to lovers (trigger warnings to definitely check before reading)
It's hard to explain the book, so let me copy and paste the summary:
The boys of Huaxia dream of pairing up with girls to pilot Chrysalises, giant transforming robots that can battle the mecha aliens that lurk beyond the Great Wall. It doesn't matter that the girls often die from the mental strain.
When 18-year-old Zetian offers herself up as a concubine-pilot, it's to assassinate the ace male pilot responsible for her sister's death. But she gets her vengeance in a way nobody expected—she kills him through the psychic link between pilots and emerges from the cockpit unscathed. She is labeled an Iron Widow, a much-feared and much-silenced kind of female pilot who can sacrifice boys to power up Chrysalises instead.
To tame her unnerving yet invaluable mental strength, she is paired up with Li Shimin, the strongest and most controversial male pilot in Huaxia. But now that Zetian has had a taste of power, she will not cower so easily. She will miss no opportunity to leverage their combined might and infamy to survive attempt after attempt on her life, until she can figure out exactly why the pilot system works in its misogynist way—and stop more girls from being sacrificed.
I'm not that into science fiction, but I was curious. I do have to admit I was lost a few times with some terms used for the robots, and also had a hard time imagining things in my head, but I liked the way her relationship with Shimin changed, and there's also her complete opposite with whom she is friend, a rich man who wants to protect her.
The ending had me on my ass! The second book was supposed to come out in April but it was changed to 2024 and I can't wait.
----
Other than that.. I recently started Caraval by Stephanie Garber. The reason is funny, I saw a book at the bookstore "Once upon a brokenheart" and loved the cover, but then I saw I needed to read the Caraval series first, so here I am. I'm currently on the second book and it's pretty okay. I like the universe of Caraval.
I read "The Invisible Life of Addie Larue" by V.E. Schwab at the beginning of the year and it became one of my favorite pretty fast. It was so nicely written that I can't help but recommend it.
I usually only read horror and thrillers but I haven't been able to find much good ones so I've been trying my hands at other books.
What about you? Tell me everything!
#aura's asks#jnyonghoon ♥#this is so long I'm sorry#please stop by anytime to talk about books it makes me so happy#you made my night

The 12 Pains of Baconmas(I'm sorry for the mess)
So my first online friend after the ones I made on YouTube started to do their own things & I started to be active on old DA was someone that currently goes by Halotherebuddy.(Links to their carrd & BlueSky pages) They're not on DA anymore & some of their other accounts are abandoned or deleted.
I use to draw stuff based on things they were into with characters I had interacting with their's. One of the shows they liked was Monster & Robot about two characters of the same names in a world of monsters & robots were everyone likes bacon. Well they have a holiday called Baconmas that thanks to having not seen stuff in years I dunno if this replaces Christmas or if it's another holiday similar to it.
We thought it'd be funny to make a parody of the "12 Pains of Christmas" by Bob Rivers with Baconmas. Here are the images I made for the thing since I decided to post my old Sonic related ones.
I want to mention that this was back when I made crazy crossover shit. This went from only Monster and Robot characters & OCs to adding Homestuck & semi unrelated OCs.
I was originally going to give random info here & there but I realized the pictures are really confusing so I tried to describe what was going on. I'm going to repeat this but this is old, I don't remember the context of some of these nor some OCs(that belong to Halo) this is due to the fact while I'm in contact with Halo we don't talk on a daily basis & we don't talk about Monster & Robot anymore. I only saw like one or two episodes & Halo knew more than me.
I tried to scrap together context & info from my DA posts for these but they don't help much cause they seem to act like I'd still remember everything or something.(Also some laziness & tiredness was involved)
I'm sorry if this confuses anyone trying to look at this, this is just a post showing off past memories. A lot of the mess comes from younger me not fully being able to handle working on this but wanting to finish it up & the fact younger me thought it'd be funny to add in crossover stuff & my weird amalgamation things which adds to confusion.
These were all originally posted to DA in December of 2012(Apparently posted December 20th & December 21st)
For some context Mecha(the person you see at the top in the first two pics & rigging the lights) is Halo's OC, she's suppose to be married to Gart(Robot's older brother). Snow(the person holding a stick in the first pic) was my OC that for some reason I imagined being Mecha & Gart's adopted kid. The character in the third pic that has no idea where they are is a troll version(apparently named Allien) of Snow that was my one of Homestuck OCs. At some point I stopped using them & they became my OCs Kiku & Sammy.
I used semi gijinka Gart(he's at the top of the third pic) because I think I got tired of drawing him & drew him in human style. I made a comic that made context to it were an explosion while saving Snow led to Snow going blind & Gart having to be put in a new body.(This incident made him care about Snow as he only cared about Mecha in the past)
Page 1:
Mecha giving the day
Snow & some fankids looking for fireworks. According to the description it's a fankid named Izzy & her friends. Going off a later pic Izzy is likely one of Mecha & Gart's kids.
Page 2:
Troll Mecha & Mecha annoyed at rigging the lights for the factory
Still having trouble with lights, Snow is messing with a stick with a pet marf
Page 3:
Humanoid Gart listing the third thing
A drunk cop, Mecha still pissed along with a confused troll
Still looking for the firewood, Alucart(who in the middle pic below I misspelled as Al'cart) climbed a tree
The guy at the bottom of the middle pic's name is Wrent, I think he's meant to be Mecha & Gart's kid. Also I messed up the guy being mentioned's name his name is Alucart not Al'cart.
Allen is another OC that got a mix of things I was interested in at the time & is technically Snow as well. Like Snow & the HS ver he later became Kiku & Sammy. I think he might have been meant to be the "human" version of the troll OC cause there was meant to be a human ver & troll ver.
I got really tired at some point while working on all of this so things got lazy over time.
Page 1:
John(from Homestuck did the bucket prank on Gart & I'm near by
Monster & Alucart dealing with Baconmas cards, Alucart is I think messaging Snow. I dunno why but I kind of liked him & sometimes drew Snow being interested in him.
Mecha is getting even more pissed, the cop is still drunk & Izzy had to get one of her siblings(Wrent) to get Alucart out of a tree. Snow knows this won't end well.
Page 2:
Gart getting hit with a bucket, guessing I did that
For some reason light bulbs at Robot's work(a bulb factory) are exploding
Snow was asked to help & ended up drawing a certain game symbol that Alucart recognizes. Not sure how Snow managed to draw this since he can't see.
Mecha decided to call it a night, drunk cop & I dunno why Jane & Roxy from Homestuck are here
Wrent & Allen mention that the scene for searching for firewood is on standby due to Alucart breaking his leg
Page 3:
I don't know what the context for the character that has a "G" instead of "g" is about, I want to guess another fankid or chibi/kid Gart.
Halo's OC Tiki distressed about seeing her family
Normal Gart dealing with explosions in front of Robot. Robot dealing with Gart's Christmas cards, I dunno who is helping him with them I think she might be Aris but I dunno.
I gave up drawing the bar for the day
Mecha getting Snow prepared to go out into the cold instead of working on the lights
I ran out of space & decided to make a joke about it
Snow, Alucart, Wrent & some others helping with cards along within the middle at the bottom right Alucart losing at rock, paper, sissors.
Also the static is connected to Allen, I was complaining about Firework CS3 in the DA description cause it was hard to work on compared to when I use to use ImageReady CS.
Page 1:
Gart getting tired
Perry dealing with cybernetic charities
Tiki distressed, Robot & Gart(humanoid again) hiding from the exploding bulbs
Snow, Alucart, Izzy & others helping with cards. Drunk cop again
I think Gart showed up to either take Mecha home or see how she was doing & she's pissed. Meanwhile the kids decided to look elsewhere for firewood after Alucart recovered.
Page 2:
Gart wondering why he hears a radio(god teir mode Allen appearing) & then spit taking at Izzy wanting shit
Gijinka Perry & Tiki still scared, also more lights exploding
Alucart helping with cards again & I have no idea who this cop is, the DA description(which isn't helping) says he's a cop which is the only thing I know about him
Mecha is getting pissed again. Izzy, Emma(no idea who that is, haven't interacted with these characters in years) & Alucart are doing rock, paper, sissors & Alucart lost.
Page 3:
Gart having a bad feeling about something(or someone behind him he hasn't noticed yet)
Snow & Alucart trying to find a parking spot to go get firewood, for the decription on DA I apparently forgot he had a broken leg.(Also for anyone confused hot air balloons or at least air ships are common ways to travel in this show)
I apparently made a flashback scene for an excuse for the annoying kid, I also realized Izzy isn't a Gart x Mecha fankid after all.(The kid annoying him is Izzy as a kid)
I got really lazy at this point. Perry, Tiki & more lights.
Robot is helping Monster with the cards, Mecha learns Gart left her blinking lights & Alucart has no idea what aisle to go down. This was also during a time were I didn't fully understand heghts so Snow despite being Alucart's age is shorter than he should be.
I think at this point there was so much the only way to put everything in was by circle panels
Page 1:
Gart running for his life cause Allen scared him
I make a joke about Baconmas traditions, more charity stuff, Alucart got something that should come with batteries but doesn't, Snow got a new hat & more parking issues.
Younger Izzy panicking, Tiki wrapped up at home panicking, drunk needs toilet paper & more exploding lights. Also Gart gets forced to do the rest of the Christmas cards.(Apparently they're not all his they're his family's list & I guess Robot got stuck with one half & Monster helped him)
A past version of my self-insert Sonicsona & a kind of familiar running off to get Knuckles supplies for rigging the lights. For context I use to sometimes go by Izzy cause I thought it was interesting.
Karkat is here for some reason.
Page 2:(Final page)
For some reason Allen was able to disguise himself by going into an older form.(This was oddly inspired by Hana from Ojamajo Doremi, I stopped using this idea at some point)
I don't remember the context(at this point any context I use to know is long gone along with knowing who most of the OCs are), I got lazy again & for some reason John from Homestuck is here.
Monster & Mecha notice the drunk cop, this is the only reason I know he's a cop. Gart dealing with younger Izzy on a sugar rush. Perry got forced to help with donations.
Blaze worried about her in-laws, Eggman & Sonic hiding from exploding lights & Gart gives up on the cards.
Italy(from Hetalia) can't find a parking spot & Japan(also from Hetalia) wishes he hadn't been riding with Italy. Also I know this is out of order.
Anime Kirby with Lololo & Lalala needing help with rigging the lights while Mecha gave up on rigging the lights so is getting for some reason sought after firewood while telling Gart to stop bothering her.
For some reason I added Keroro into this.
Sorry for making everyone that decided to read this train wreck. As fun as it was to draw at the time & as nice as it was to go down memory lane this is a confusing mess without context/inside jokes

do you have any advice on drawing mechs :)? your art is amazing!
Thanks for asking! I will preface this with the same piece of advice that I always give people: you get good at art by practicing. If you’re not consistently drawing and working on improving, you gotta get into the habit of that first. With that out of the way....
In terms of the actual drawing, you gotta be comfortable drawing lots of boxes and cylinders in perspective. That’s crucial for getting stuff like weapons and limbs looking good. The underlying structure of lots of mechanical things like mechs or other vehicles are often pretty basic and it’s the details you add on top that make them interesting. But make no mistake, you have to get the structure down first or else nothing’s going to look good. Here’s some examples from my own drawings where I’ve tried to point out the usage of very basic forms underlying everything else:
Now do you need to get out a ruler and protractor and plot out every single point of every geometrical figure exactly right, Scott Robertson style? Absolutely not (although it doesn’t hurt to be able to and I encourage you to try that as an exercise!) But you should be pretty comfortable drawing basic forms in perspective.
When you can do that, the next step is being able to actually design a mech from scratch and this is where it gets a bit harder but also where the fun really begins. Probably everyone has a different approach to this- I’m just gonna walk you through how I do it. Usually I have a vague idea for both the visual appearance and the “context” of a mech before I draw it and I develop both of these together because they both influence each other. By “context” I mean, “in what kind of world could this exist?” I think this is an important question to ask with mechs because in reality they probably don’t make much sense. In most applications, a wheeled or tracked vehicle would probably work better. And sometimes you just want to draw a cool robot and that’s it and the context doesn’t matter. But personally, I think I draw more interesting mechs when I think about what they’re built for and the world in which they exist. There’s sort of a “plausability spectrum” for mecha with somewhat realistic designs on one end and bonkers stuff on the other.
On the realistic end you have stuff that’s smaller, more compact. These might be deployed in places with rough terrain where a car won’t cut it. They’re probably not much bigger than a hardsuit and if they are, they’re probably quadrapedal or hexapedal for stability and weight distribution. For inspiration look to Simon Roy, Boston Dynamics, Maschinen Krieger, GitS, and real-world legged vehicles:
Past realism there’s a huge realm of mecha designs that I would call “plausible-in-context.” Mechs that are built more on rule-of-cool than practicality but have in-universe justifications and fit the setting. Star Wars, Lancer, Battletech, Gundam and honestly probably the vast majority of mech designs fit in here.
On the bonkers side you get it all. Stuff that’s definitely there to look cool before anything else or stuff with pretty noticeable fantasy elements. Gurren Lagann, Mony Pich’s stuff, Ghibli mechs, the work of Makoto Kobayashi, and Shining Force fit here.
Think about where your mech exists on the spectrum and come up with a little backstory for it. Is it a robotic pack mule accompanying spec ops teams into the mountains? Is it the emperor’s mechanotitan guard automaton from the ancient times? This the kind of stuff that influences how I draw a mech. Think about what it does, how that would impact how it looks visually, do thumbnails, work out the kinks and pretty soon you’ll find yourself with something you like. I use reference pretty liberally at this stage, either looking at art I like or real-world mechanical details, or weapon designs. Don’t be afraid to use any and all reference! You learn by studying others and the real world.
Once I’ve got the design pretty much figured out that’s when I finally work out the composition/posing of the final drawing and polish it off. Doing it this way takes me a while. I know people who can just draw cool mechs off the top of their head and that’s a totally valid way to do it as well! But this is the process that, right now, works pretty well for me.
Last little note- something I struggled with for a long time was making mechanical joints look good. My advice is to heavily reference other artists and see how they do it. Someone like Ryan Barry might go ham on the details and greebles:
Whereas monypich might cover lots of stuff up in smooth armor plating:
There are many, many different solutions. Use your judgement and don’t feel like you have to figure it out for yourself! It’s okay to take inspiration from others.
Hope this helps and please let me know if you have any other questions! Sorry for letting this sit in my inbox for a while but I wanted to try to write out a good answer.

How do you draw mechs and like,,, keep them consistent?? I am very VERY new at it and I just can't figure out how and what to simplify TwT also ypur dratchet is currently fueling me tyvm
Thank you! Expect more Dratchet in the close future :))
and I know the pain, it took me a while to get comfortable drawing mecha
Here's some stuff I picked up along the way that works for me:
When drawing mechs I tend to look at the silhouette first to see what I'm dealing with. This helps you look at the overall shape instead of worrying over the fine details.
When I start drawing the sketch I want to block out what stands out to me first which usually makes the character more easy to recognize in the end
Another thing that's helpful is to get down the basic shapes of the figure. Mechs have so many details so when drawing them some stuff can get lost in translation and are hard to replicate when drawing them over and over again.
Try to break down the figure into the most basic shapes you can and once you are comfortable with that go and try to put those shapes into 3D forms. Getting the 3D forms is super helpful in the long run because once you know them then you can pose them in any way you want and will be more consistent in the long run!
Added some more under the cut because this is running a little long
Make sure to have a ton of references for the particular mecha you're drawing. Usually there's model and reference sheets online for the character you're looking for I know Milne has a ton!
A great blog to also find them is @robot-reference which I go to for pretty much everything I draw
Also looking at the toys is really handy! You can find reviews online and it can give a really good idea of how the character looks in a 3D space
Another tip from me: Don't be afraid to break out the ruler! Its been my lifeline. Straight confident lines really help with robots trust me
Drawing mecha might be hard right now but don't give up! It will get easier with time.
Mess around! Experiment! See what works and what doesnt :))
#long post#tutorial#kinda#hope this helps! id be willing to clarify some stuff further if you need it :))#mecha#transformers#art help

The ATOM Create a Kaiju Contest 3-D: Entry Roundup
You’ve been patiently waiting for the results of the ATOM Create a Kaiju Contest 3-D, and now... you have to wait a bit longer, but at least you’ve got an entry roundup with lots of sketches and a good bit of feedback for all the entrants! My goal is to get the finalists illustrated in a week or two, and after that, the grand prize winner will be announced. But, for now, the official entry roundup! After the cut:
I should note that while I sketched these in the order they were submitted, my scanner saved the documents with random names, so they’re a bit jumbled. You know, just in case you’re like me and would get confused noticing that it’s almost in chronological order but with some entries jumbled around.
@bugcthulhu’s Obsideban was designed as a counterpart to Rohobaron - the Black King to Rohobaron’s Red King, if you will. Or, well, Black Queen in this case, as Obsideban also takes her personality from the “delinquent girl” archetype in Japanese media. Bug’s designs always ooze personality, and I had a lot of fun translating this big, gnarly retrosaur into my own style.
@toothlessloveshiccup‘s Argonox is the first - but far from the last - monster in this breakdown that brings in a bit of fantasy influence to ATOM’s roster. A golden-fleeced ram with a vicious streak, this sheep is both treasure and dragon at once. And while it wasn’t written in the monster’s profile, given the Yamaneon-rich nature of its wool, Argonox might be able to replicate the healing power of the golden fleece too! A very fun mammalian kaiju and excellent entry.
@highly-radioactive-nerd submitted Gunmetal Jeeves, a robot butler who can gigantomax temporarily create a holographic/hard light version of himself to fight kaiju. That detail was a late revision added to the entry before the contest’s deadline, made after the creator realized that ATOM allows for some truly ludicrous bullshit, which is something everyone should exploit when making entries for this in my opinion. Also, this is a robot butler who can size shift. Revel in its awesome absurdity!
Ultranerd submitted Rajasaurus, a dimetrodon-like synapsid kaiju with electric powers. His origin specifies that the electric powers are a result of the volatile nature of the Yamaneon deposits he mutated under, which is an interesting idea. That’s another theme that cropped up a lot in this contest’s entries, actually - people really wanted to play with what Yamaneon can do.
Case in point, @polygonfighter’s Yamaneolith takes the Monolith Monsters homage at the heart of Yamaneon even more apparent. I like the implication that there is a second mineral-based lifeform at the root of this Yamaneon cluster’s anomalous behavior - a parasite, perhaps? It brings up some interesting possibilities.
@ariccio50 submitted Kukulkuzana, and damn is this a cool spin on the body plan of my martians. I made a few changes here and there (splitting its tail into two is probably the biggest one), but tried to keep true to the original design, because holy hell is it gorgeous. The idea that this is a mountain-dwelling creature is really intriguing to me, as it looks like a sea creature, but at the same time, that flexible and low-slung build WOULD work pretty well in mountains, and it’s just the right mix of plausible weirdness that makes for a fun alien design.
@akitymh submitted Aramzados, a Venusian monster that’s basically an organic hot rod car. I like the idea of organic machinery being the gimmick for Venusian kaiju, and Aramzado’s does it subtly enough to not feel like that gimmick is the sole thing going for it. I especially love this monster’s stange, apparently mouth-less blade-beaked face.
@virovac submitted Rurzar and Zar Rider, a Beyonder kaiju and mecha (respecitvely) that were both modified and repurposed by humans reverse engineering Beyonder technology to make, like, a motorcycle-saurus essentially. It is a delightfully absurd concept, and a very, very detailed one (13 pages of description). There’s a dark undercurrent beneath the sillyness, though, as this pair show that humanity might still be following the same path as the Beyonders before them.
@dinosaurana brings us Krangor, a humanoid monstrosity of living kelp! The goal here was to create a Jack Kirby-esque monster dude, complete with the gibberish name and all. He’s also made out of kelp, which feels very classic 1950′s monster-y despite me not being able to think of any monsters that were explicitly made of kelp. I love him.
@kiryuthechimera submitted Genkakurah, a psychic retrosaur with some draconic features. Though his substantial powerset is probably the biggest distinguishing feature of this kaiju (given that most ATOM kaiju pretty much have the same standard powers), what really draws me to him is that reptilian pseudo-beard. It’s just a fun detail!
@glarnboudin submits Tiratola, and see, there’s that fantasy influence again! Even more explicitly dragon-y than Kraydi, Tiratola still manages to toe the line between sci-fi and fantasy enough to fit ATOM as is while still cementing its ties to my own slice of fantasy fiction. Man it’s good I’m doing a Midgaheim book next, huh?
@dragonzzilla submitted Scuttlebutt/Argonautilus, a hermit crab kaiju who lives in/with a hollowed out mecha. That’s a twist I can’t recall ever hearing before, and the idea of a kaiju and a mecha having an equal partnership that doesn’t involve one being grafted to the other is really intriguing to me. A very unique concept!
@evolutionsvoid submitted Fleagor, an enormous flea who has no idea what to do with itself now that there’s no creature large enough for it to parasitize. I love that concept - it takes the core idea of the giant bug kaiju archetype (i.e. unsettling the audience by showing how terrifying small, “insignificant” creatures would be if our sizes were reversed) and really turns it on its head. The name also plays on the Universal Monsters, who were a huge part of 1950′s pop culture thanks to their movies being re-released in that era, so all and all this one is very on brand for ATOM!
@skarmorysilver submitted Lilacorn, another entry that plays up that Midgaheim/ATOM connection. Reinterpreting the mythological unicorn as an Cenozoic wooly rhinoceros-inspired monster gives it a very unique look, both in ATOM and in the general world of unicorns, and she has a bad-girl with a heart of gold personality to boot!
dracosaurus-rex submitted Florasaura, a two-headed plant/retrosaur hybrid monster. I love me some plant monsters, I love me some retrosaurs, and I love me some rhyming the word “flora” with other words that contain similar vowell sounds, so this one has me written all over it!
@downtofragglerock submitted Sauroguana, a delightfully odd flying retrosaur. There’s a great deal of charm to the original illustration that this sketch doesn’t quite capture - it’s a deceptively simple design with a lot of personality in it, and with those unique leg-wings it really doesn’t need a whole lot of frills to stand out.
Draxi submitted Brakan, an unimpressive burrowing retrosaur kaiju whose mastery of illusions allows it to convince other kaiju it’s actually a big, super-powerful badass that’s the ultimate fighter in the universe. It’s a delightful parody of the concept of a fan self-insert god-mode character, with a really fun story built into it to boot!
@quinnred submitted O.N.I.A.C., a mysterious cocooned kaiju whose chrysalis has been turned into an organic computer of sorts by the people studying it, and seems to possess a fairly advanced intelligence for a kaiju. It’s a really bizarre and ominous idea, with built in intrigue given how vague its nature is. Is it just a kaijufied butterfly/moth who got stuck mid transformation? A relative of the Mothmanuds? Something else, perhaps equally alien? Good story potential here.
shadyserpent submitted Vespilitor, a bat/retrosaur hybrid made by the nefarious Spooks Organization. A mercurial prankster whose tendency to stir up trouble never crosses the line into maliciousness, he’s the kind of monster who would make a great foil to a lot of ATOM’s cast. I’d especially like to see him in a prank off with Ahuul - it’d be like Bugs Bunny fighting Daffy Duck, but on a kaiju scale.
@multiversefan submitted the Yamaneon King, a nomadic kaiju whose refusal to settle down causes problems as he stirs up trouble at kaiju sanctuaries all over the globe by showing up unannounced and stirring up the locals. He was basically designed to be a monster that the kaiju sanctuary initiative would struggle to deal with, which is a good idea for a post-ATOM Volume 2 story conflict.
Sir K submitted Jadeera, a kirin kaiju that can actually forcibly convert most of its body to Yamaneon to enter a dormant, statue-like state in a loose homage to King Shisa. Though the fantasy elements are far more present than I usually prefer for ATOM kaiju, I think it should be noted they’re pushed that far for a purpose - a theme in Jadeera’s entry, which continues where its creator left off with their submission to the previous ATOM create a kaiju contest (Yokaigon), is that the world of kaiju is more complicated and challenging than many are willing to accept, which is a theme in ATOM itself. Yokaigon’s more supernatural/occult powers are based on the ghost parascience of my setting, which ATOM has delved into a bit (Pathogen being the big example), so it’s not as out of left field as some might think.
@cerothenull brings us our final entry (unless some got lost thanks to tumblr’s shitty tagging system), the flying spider Naeranti. She’s a kaiju spider who uses silk to make complicate hot-air balloons, more or less, and that’s just delightful. ATOM could always use more spider-monsters, and with a really unique gimmick backing up a wonderfully distinct look, Naeranti is sure to stand out among her fellow giant arachnids.
Well, that’s the roundup! In a week (or two, depending on how much my hand cramps) we’ll have the five finalists, and sometime after that, the grand prize winner!

SSSS.Gridman: Final Thoughts
Even though I watched it during its original run in 2018 just three years ago, I felt compelled to rewatch this show thanks to its inclusion in the upcoming Super Robot Wars, where it’s most likely the most exciting new inclusion in the roster for many if not most. I don’t think I ever wrote a full review piece for it during that original run, so I’ll use this opportunity to sort that out. It was one of two mecha series made by Studio Trigger in 2018 (you could argue that it’s not a mecha series really, but that’s splitting hairs, the appeal of this and various super robot shows overlaps heavily,) the other being Darling in the Franxx. It was Franxx that was probably the most highly anticipated of the two, with Gridman, as the soft reboot of an old, not-especially-popular toku Ultra-series knockoff from the 90s, probably rating a fair bit lower on the hype charts. In the end, reality defied at least my expectations if nobody else’s, with Franxx being somewhat of a letdown and SSSS.Gridman turning out to be excellent. On a repeat viewing, my opinion has changed somewhat - this time I enjoyed it even more than the first time around. I truly think that it’s one of, if not the best mecha (or mecha-adjacent if you want to be picky) series to air in recent years.
The plot setup is that one day, highschooler Yuta Hibiki awakes in the house of his classmate Rikka Takarada with a problem - he’s lost all his memories. More concerning still, he’s the only one that can see the giant, silent, unmoving monsters towering over the city, and an armoured figure inside an old computer calling himself Gridman and telling Yuta that there’s something important that he must do. Before he has a chance to reach the sensible conclusion that he’s gone insane, a monster that’s indisputably real attacks. Yuta is sucked into the old computer, and merges with Gridman, allowing him to manifest as a giant defender in the real world to fight back. The next day, however, nobody except for Yuta and his friends remember anything about the giant monster attack, and the city is as good as new - with the only difference being that history seems to have been rewritten so that those who died at the hands of the monster were actually killed in unrelated circumstances years prior. Unbeknownst to Yuta, those killed were specifically singled out by the creator of the monster - the most popular girl in his class, Akane Shinjou. Yuta, his friends, Gridman and a band of peculiar new allies must fight to protect the lives of the innocents living in the city from monster attacks while attempting to figure out just what is going on.
The plot setup is strange, similar to that of the original 90s Toku series, but the show does an incredible job of selling you on it and drawing you in. You want to know more about what’s going on and what will happen next, and the show wastes admirably little of its short 12-episode runtime in delivering on the promise of its narrative. Each new episode manages to deliver both new revelations and fresh excitement in equal proportions - there’s basically nothing from this series that feels like it’s missing, yet also basically nothing that feels unnecessary either. I sometimes despair slightly how many more recent mecha anime have gotten shorter, with 12 or so episodes seeming to be the norm for all except the biggest new releases, but if all of them paced themselves as well as this show then it wouldn’t be an issue at all. I recently watched one very long old show in the shape of Heavy Metal L-gaim, and one shorter recent one in Knight’s and Magic, with the former feeling like it’s treading water for far too long and the latter skipping over too much in an effort to cram too much into a shorter run - Gridman, by contrast, is a superb example of how it should be done. That great pacing is in service of a surprisingly interesting plot, as well - it takes its interesting setup to even more interesting places, and ends up using them to address some interesting themes. To say too much would be to spoil it, which would be a disservice, but broadly it’s about how humans approach reality and the conflicts that issue from that.
That the series succeeds on this front is largely because of a really memorable cast of characters. While Yuta, the hero, isn’t especially memorable, Akane, the antagonist, is very much so - figuring out her deal is arguably the primary driving force behind the narrative. I honestly can’t say I can think of an antagonist in a mecha series that’s quite like her - though it’s revealed that she’s the villain in the first episode, you wouldn’t be likely to guess as much on seeing her for the first time, as she’s outwardly cheerful and seemingly normal - though it soon becomes apparent that this conceals a penchant for doling out incredibly harsh judgement for incredibly petty slights, just one aspect indicating a highly disturbed mindset. The show increasingly centres around her increasingly as it nears its climax, in a way that arguably makes her just as important to the narrative as the protagonists. The supporting cast are pretty excellent too, with standouts including Yuta’s firends Rikka and Utsumi, both of whom contribute to the plot in their own ways, Anti, a monster created by Akane disguised as a young boy who’s utterly obsessed with striking down Gridman and has an incredibly memorable character arc, and others besides.
Plot and characters are just one half of why the show’s so great though - the other half is its striking presentation. Trigger’s notable for animating with a very distinctive flair, whether that’s Kill la Kill or their also-excellent feature film Promare - after all, it’s made up by much of the talent that worked on Gurren Lagann. However, their approach to SSSS.Gridman was different, if no less striking for different reasons. For me, the show’s aesthetic is defined above all else by the contrast between the ordinary and the extraordinary. The show puts a great deal of effort into portraying mundane things - city streets, school halls and the like - and then contrasting that against the bizarre and spectacular. A great example of this are the frequent shots of busy streets full of people minding their own business, completely unaware of the mysterious, ominous monsters towering over everything quietly in the background. This even leaks through into the one scenes are directed - most of the dialogue is written in a way that feels very natural, with people talking to one another much how you’d expect them to in real life, over mundane topics, even as strange and spectacular things are happening around them. It has a double effect of enhancing the air of mystery around the strange aspects of the world, and also making the spectacular events, especially the battles between Gridman and monsters, seem all that more exciting when they come around. The mechanical and monster designs alike are spectacular, and their battles are blockbuster events. The show uses a mix of 2D and 3D animation for these. While 3D generally has probably finally reached a stage where it’s generally good enough to stand in for traditional 2D animation, at least for mechanical fights, few other shows exhibit the level of mastery that Trigger exhibit when using it in this series - largely due to their deft blending it with traditional 2D for certain shots, and fantastic judgement of when to use what manner of animation. Much of the battle animation even pays homage to classic super robot shows of the past. Ultimately, I think this show’s action is close to the top of the pile when it comes to mecha shows in general - but as I said earlier it’s the blend of the ordinary and extraordinary that makes it really stand out, and the same level of care was put into the most mundane scenes. The result is a beautiful and exquisitely detailed series from beginning to end.
Overall, I think SSSS.Gridman stands out, not just within this era, which is arguably a relatively weak one as far as mecha shows are concerned, but even within the grander body of work of mecha shows as a whole - which nobody would have expected from a followup to a hokey old 90s toku show. While their recent feature film Promare was also a spectacular accomplishment from the studio, I think this show’s probably my favourite thing that Trigger’s put out in their lifespan thus far. With one worthy sequel having already aired this year in the form of SSSS.Dynazenon, another still in the pipeline, and the series achieving entry into Super Robot Wars, it’s already starting to accrue the legacy that it arguably deserves as an instant modern classic.

So I know you're not doing a ton of drawing rn but I was wondering if I could ask you a question. You have a ton of awesome OC's on your blog, so I was wondering if you have any advice on how you design them/come up with them? Thanks! (Also your stuff is amazing)
Hiiii!! Firstly, just wanna say thank youuu sooo very much! 😭
I don’t have advice- I’m not the best advice giver?? I can only tell you my process. It’s really me being inspired by multiple things and fusing them together to make one character. And then tried different colors til I come up with something I like!
Digit the Ermine is a good example of this.
Here’s how she started:
Yes, its a non sonic oc!! I’ve been trying to make my own stuff but thats a conversation for another day jdbdjdn Long story short why i made her into a Sonic oc instead: cuz I gave up and making sonic ocs make head go brrr
She’s based on D.va! I’m still trying to design mechas for her.. robots are hard 😔. I didn’t want it to be based on one character alone, so I started looking for other things I like! I went with adding a goofball energy like Junkrat (lets be real. We need more crazy gal characters.. im love them 🥺), made her very techy like Eggman, took some elements from IEWSF!Amy, and gave her some sharp claws and fangs cuz... 👀 worw.. and I also went with an asymmetrical design to spice things up!
As for colors, I tried different combinations.
I didn’t know which to choose so I asked my sis which she liked the most after telling what Digit is like. She went with the green one soo.. i did some last tweaks annnd there she be!
The Digit we all know and love hfbsja

Hi! I wanted to thank everyone who follows me! I really appreciate the support and love I’ve gotten from everyone here.
I’ve opened up a Ko-Fi for those who’d like to support me in growing as an artist. No one is obligated to tip me, its just for anyone who wants to show that, “Hey! I think you’re really amazing and want to show that I support what you do in the best way I can!”
As some of you know I carry 2 jobs outside of doing all the fanart and things I post. Though I’d rather put more effort here since its my passion to do comics. That’s why I made a ko-fi, to hopefully cut out my extra job and focus on just making illustrations and comics for you all you lovelies.
Lately more and more of you amazing people have sent me art requests or things that I’d like to draw, but because of my limited time I can be selective of what I decide to put out. That’s why for anyone who tips I’ll prioritize any requests I decide to pick up from them as a thank you for supporting and believing in me.
If anyone is interested at this time to send me some spare change here’s a link to my ko-fi! https://ko-fi.com/mcmystery You can also find the support button on my tumblr blog!
Thank you all again for your love, I can’t describe how much it means to me <3
- - - - - - - - -
Note: Any requests that are sent in with tips will be looked at and will be picked on interest and my work load. I would love to do all the requests that are sent in but at the time I can only pick based on those guidelines. (I won’t be taking request that deal with: robots/mechas, NSFW content, or gore)

What's some of your most favorite random facts about your SF OCs? Do you think the SF64 bosses have... Love lives? Drama? Favorite foods? I'm here for all of the tea.
[Note 1: I will take the opportunity to say that to answer your questions in a simple way, I will make a separate post talking about the relationships and love lives of my SF 64 headcanons. I have written too much about them and their love lives that I prefer to do it in a future post so as not to extend this too long.Thank you very much for understanding my decision, and also thank you very much for asking and reading my answer!)
(Note 2: I apologize for not answering your question before. Very busy but also writing headcanons, although fun, they are difficult to write too lol)
Let's start it:
OH HELL YEAH I IMAGINE THAT!!!!!
I think many already know me as the artist who spends all her time drawing and writing content about the bosses of Star fox 64, and I also admit that I dedicate myself to thinking a lot more about relationships, daily lives and writing ideas apart from their fights in war or as Andross soldiers (Although I don't want to ignore that part either, because I mainly decided to write about them to show Andross's empire and what the character is like interacting with his army).
But oh! I suppose you mean my characters Pluto, Ophelia and others, right? Honestly I like many headcanons/ideas that I have, but I can tell you only one for each of them (so as not to lengthen the answer so much!)
My SF fan characters / ocs:
Pluto Galaxicos is very interested in makeup. Cosplay and drag. This is not only because he finds it to be an entertaining and cute hobby himself, but it also allows him the ability to dress up and sneak well on secret missions together with Andrew.
Barbara Andorf (Andreas / Andross' twin sister), during her childhood to a certain point of her adulthood, had the same personality as her future son, Andrew. She was the same image of a faithful, childlike fan with her own brother as Andrew is with his uncle. The only difference is that Barbara was not able to die for Andross.
Randall Nook (Aquarosa Mechanic and friend of Caiman and Star wolf) has a difficult relationship with Pigma Dengar. It is not that Pigma is abusive towards him out of evil, but the mechanical pig loves to get Randall into his crazy and stupid things when a meeting or collaboration between them if is possible. Lucky for Randall, Leon or Caiman they are there to save him from the dirty hands of the pig.
Iris Halsey (a Meteo crusher soldier and one of Aaron Galaxicos' lovers) sometimes has the habit of putting her pupils across since she is a chameleon woman. She sometimes only does this to scare or annoy her lieutenant.
Moe Sokolova (Meteo Crusher Chief Mechanic) also has a difficult relationship with Pigma, but unlike Randall with Pigma, the two mechanics despise each other. Many of their matches are to demonstrate their superiority or talent among them, fighting who is the best mechanic. It is also because Pigma despises the pilot of the Meteo crusher and Moe ends up defending him by being her superior.
Ofelia Watson (Meteo crusher Soldier and also lover of Aaron Galaxicos) ... she has a great love for dark movies. Horror movies, gore movies, Class B movies, disturbing-themed documentaries. Ofelia is a great collector of these types of films and is fascinated to talk about this content. A large collection of gothic / dark merchandise can also be seen in her room. For this reason Galaxicos is sometimes scared of her.
Marshall Davis (Ace pilot of the Meteo crusher and right hand of Galaxicos) was once a loving family man to his beloved wife and daughter named Daisy. Even though the years have passed since his wife divorced him, Marshall has not been able to forget about his daughter.
Mikhael Fierro (Bodyguard of Aaron Galaxicos) hides a homo erotic relationship with that of his own lieutenant. The Meteo Crusher pilot takes advantage of the bodyguard's sexuality to commit secret actions or missions at his command or to manipulate him. Fierro, despite not being intimidated by the pilot on public, feels a great panic towards him.
Theorisa Bouvier (wife of Aaron Galaxicos and mother of Pluto) was a woman thief from one of the small planets of the Lylat System. Her reason for being exiled to Venom was by attempting to steal a private property from General Pepper on that planet and an assassination attempt while defending herself against him. She thought, until her death, that her actions were wrong and she hoped she could remedy her punishment.
Nera Relian (Attack Carrier's Chief Doctor) was one of the few daughters in a family of Venom roving cooks. She wanted to study medicine and have a doctorate, but the culture and society of the city where she grew up was so patriarchal and sexist that she could never have studies. When Andross came to Venom, he offered Nera and other women to study medicine and Nera was able to fulfill her dream, working in the army because of her loyalty to her new emperor.
My SF 64 headcanons:
Aaron Galaxicos (Meteo Crusher pilot) has been singing since he was very young. His great inspiration was watching the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs movie. During the Lylat war, the pilot gives small musical shows to bring good cheer and support to the soldiers of the empire (and seduce women * coff coff *)
Caiman Dilia is the first Venomian-Lylatian translator. Before meeting the former Doctor Andreas Andorf and having strange non-Venomian beings hanging around Venom, the young Venomian has dedicated himself to practicing and understanding and translating the Lylatian language to Venomian. This was because Caiman believed that acting in a pacifist way against the Lylatians would be better to understand the arrival of these to Venom. His unique ability served Andross to communicate with the other Venomians in their encounter.
The Commander Cobra Ryota (Area 6 Commander) will look like a reserved man, educated and good-natured, but he has a great appetite, especially for meat. If you remember the cliché of the protagonist of shonen anime eating a lot like Goku or Luffy, then you know what I'm talking about! (Oh, and many times he has a fantasy to eating Pigma).
In his spare time, Fidel Macbeth (Forever Train Engineer) loves to paint the small ceramic or wooden figures of the Macbeth family mascot. Playing the violin is also his biggest hobby and relaxation outside the factory.
Hook Silver (Sarumarine Captain) has a great fatherly personality that is often seen surrounded by civilian Venom children or Andross allied soldiers. It is his rule to never attack minors, pregnant women or commit acts such as human trafficking or abuse. If one of his soldiers (who are considered like a family to his) breaks this rule he is punished with death or exile from his squad.
Osamu Kumo (Shogun Pilot) has frequently talk too much about the Mecha of him, the Warlord (Shogun). It is common to see him clean the robot by himself or give him pampering or kisses as if it were a cherished object, or refer to the Mecha as "my baby".
Granga often plays video games when he has free time or simply when he is bored at work. The video games that he loves to play are mostly RPG, Puzzles, shooter, etc. In case he is playing online and someone decides to bother him, this person will be hacked by the little monkey to get even with that person.
Magno Doenis (Attack Carrier Captain) saw Andross as a great enemy and potential danger to Venom when the scientist ape man arrived on the toxic planet. Years before the arrival of Andross, some exiles from Corneria or the Lylat System came against their will to Venom, terrifying the Venomians for being considered dangerous and unknown beings. For the city of Magno and for himself, these new furry beings were a new plague that came to conquer his homeland. Andross was no exception for the Venomian soldier, but as soon as there was a peace pact and the komodo dragon could meet the scientist monkey, Magno became a great ally of Andross. His new emperor promised a better life for himself and the great Doenis family and the entire Venomian civilization if they succeeded in achieving victory. Magno has a great patriot and soldier spirit that would become one of Andross's greatest allies.
Oh, and because you asked too. My boys' favorite foods!
Galaxicos loves fruit salad. Especially since it is healthy for a man like him. The Meteo crusher pilot is always careful with his physique and health.
Any type of meat is the favorite food of The Commander ... but if I had to choose that is ... Pigma! Ok, lie! The truth is, in my hcs, the Venomians hunt and enjoy the meat of the Dodora, who is a native creature of the planet and that the meat of it helps to strengthen the Venomian warriors.
Granga has a great fascination for sweet food because (according to him) it helps him stay awake. But if I have to mention a specific food as his favorite, it would be the waffle.
Osamu loves to eat fruits or vegetables like Galaxicos. But in his case the salad with vegetables is his favorite.
Fidel also loves to eat dishes with vegetables or fruits. He always accompanies it with a rich orange juice and oatmeal cookies. He is a classic man who loves to eat everyday food but ideal for a high class man like him.
Magno, like The Commander, is a huge fan of the Dodora's meat.
Caiman prefers to eat a sandwich (with meat from Dodora).
Silver loves sushi! Especially accompanying it with beer.
and ... I think that's all I have! As I said, I prefer to answer about the relationships and dramas that my SF 64 bosses guys have in another post, and I hope to publish it soon! Thank you very much for asking and reading this entire post! I appreciate it very much. Please don't be shy to keep asking! :3
