other side of the moon - chapter six | formula one imagine
chapter six: fireproof
pairing: fem retired formula one driver reader x ??? fem retired formula one driver reader x platonic!kimi antonelli
testing is finally here and after the car launch, y/n is not looking forward to the mercedes garage
MASTERLIST | TIP JAR | SERIES MASTERLIST
the day and a half after the car launch before max was called into the factory by red bull was a slice of peace y/n had longed for for three years. but also one she couldn’t help think would be the last bit of peace she would be afforded this season.
the pair woke up the morning after the launch, bundled up together and hair sticking up in every direction.
“good morning” y/n said, words smothered by max’s chest. the dutchman grumbled to himself as he wrapped his arms around her even tighter.
“max, your phone won’t stop vibrating - please tell whoever it is to fuck off”
max groaned, flipped over and grabbed his phone. with his eyes shut, max jammed a couple buttons and suddenly the gravely voice of helmut marko rung out.
“max! where are you? the team have just informed me that you left early and are not at the hotel?”
the dutchman finally opened his eyes. he pulled y/n back into his side and pressed a kiss to her forehead.
“helmut, it’s too early for this many questions.”
“i asked you one, very straight forward question, max.”
“i’ll be at the factory tomorrow, don’t worry.”
helmut sighed down the phone, “wherever you are, make sure you’re not late and not spotted doing anything untoward.”
“me? untoward? helmut, i didn’t know you thought so low of me.”
“the only reason i believe you is because you’re on your best behaviour with y/n back, maybe we should add her to our payroll as well.”
y/n couldn’t stop herself before she burst out laughing. she smacked a hand over her mouth but it was too late. helmut hummed.
“i see. good morning miss y/ln. make sure he’s in top condition for tomorrow.”
“will do, helmut.”
max hung up as soon as he could and threw his phone down the bed. he smiles down at y/n, “that’s not exactly how i pictured my first morning in bed with you.”
“so you’ve pictured this?” y/n questions, raising an eyebrow.
“no? yes? maybe? i definitely have but i don’t want to creep you out so what do you want to hear?”
y/n laughs as he buries his head in the pillow, whining in embarrassment.
“maxy…” she sings and pokes his back.
“don’t look at me! i’m a freak!” max yells, muffled in the pillow.
“but you’re a freak for me?”
“isn’t it obvious?”
y/n finally gets max to lessen his grip on the pillow and look back up at her. there’s a dusting of pink on his face and a concerned look in his eye.
“don’t worry, i like it. as long as you’re only a freak for me.”
max ducked his head again, “as happy as i am to hear that, can we refrain from saying it like that? i was proud i managed to wake up without morning wood and you’re really testing that resolve right now.”
y/n’s laugh reverberated around the room. without the needy meows of brando, the pair could stay snuggled in the bed for much longer than usual.
“max?” y/n asked, the dutchman had rearranged them so that he could be the little spoon and had his head resting on her chest, “please don’t be sorry for your feelings. they don’t make me uncomfortable and unlike others you didn’t just assume i reciprocated. i like what we have and i want to see where it could go, but i want to take it slow. i don’t want people butting in and adding their two pence. i just want you - and our furry babies.”
y/n could see the smile breaking out on max’s face before he even lifted his head from her chest.
“i said i just want to exist with you,” max said, “that will never, ever change.”
the dutchman’s eyes flicked down to her lips and the blush returned when he realised he wasn’t too subtle about it. y/n gives him a small nod and max leans in.
“can i?”
“please,” y/n whispered as max’s lips connected with hers. it was a small peck, just a press of lips, but it was enough. both pulled back and smiled, happy to breathe the same air for a while. y/n’s hand wrapped around his nape and pulled him in for another one. this kiss lasted longer, the pair pouring their years of pining into it, communicating something words could not describe.
for a moment y/n wished that she hadn’t returned to formula one. she wished that this would be her life. happy in her coop in west london with her and max’s cats waiting for the dutchman to come home, far away from her past ghosts and the sport that nearly killed her.
“will you still find me attractive in mercedes kit?”
“that’s a stupid question. you’re the most beautiful person in the world. yes, i would prefer if it were my number and my colours, but i’ll live with it if it means seeing you at every race.”
y/n giggled, the dutchman pressed another kiss to her lips because he could.
“i know you’ll be rooting for kimi this season, but i’ll win every race for you. even if the red bull is a shit box, i’ll fight everyone to bring that trophy home to you.”
“my singular monza trophy is a little lonely,” y/n said, “but your wins are yours, not anyone else’s”
y/n pushed back the duvet and started to get out of bed, much to the chagrin of max. despite his attempted puppy-dog eyes, y/n shuffled into her slippers and made her way to the kitchen.
“find something good to watch, i’ll cook up one last cheat meal for you,” y/n’s voice called from the hallway. max stayed led in the bed, a dumb smile on his face. it all felt a bit too good to be true and he hoped those in the paddock who had already caused some trouble would stay out of this.
despite another night of snuggles, max did not want to leave for milton keynes the next morning. y/n had made him a breakfast sandwich for the ride, but it did little to console the young dutchman even though the pair would be apart for just two days before they’d reunite in monaco and fly out to bahrain.
“i don’t wanna go… i want to stay here, you’re so much nicer to look at than christian!”
max was dragging his feet as he made his way to the hire car. he even tried to delay his departure by roping frank into a conversation but y/n had thought of that and rung down to reception in advance.
“it’s like you want me gone!” max cried as he put his bags in the car.
y/n laced her fingers in his, “you know i’ll miss you, but i don’t want to hear helmut’s voice any more than i have to, so you have to go. i’ll see you in monaco.”
max pulled her into one last kiss and reluctantly got into the car. y/n waved him off as he disappeared into the streets of london.
“finally!”
a yell boomed out in the garage, making y/n jump and stick her keys out as a makeshift weapon. frank stood at the entrance of the garage with a huge smile on his face. y/n calmed down when she saw the older man.
“frank! that scared the shit out of me! how long have you been there?”
“long enough.”
frank looked very smug. y/n made her way to the entrance, pointedly ignoring the older man.
“don’t be mad, i won’t tell anyone. i’m just glad you finally realised what was right in front of you.”
did everyone see it before her? it certainly seems that way.
“we’re taking it slow, so i’d appreciate if you kept this under your hat, frank.”
“of course, miss y/ln. would you like me to arrange for another parking spot for your flat?”
y/n tried to keep a stern look but she just couldn’t help it and smiled at the older man.
“that would be lovely, thank you.”
her apartment was quiet without max. she didn’t want to say she missed him just yet, but she had to busy herself with something before she fell down that hole. she needed to pack and get a flight back to monaco so she could spend a little more time with the cats before pre-season testing kicked off the season.
y/n’s phone buzzed with a message.
kimi: y/nnnnnnnn huge favour to ask! george can only give me a lift back to london before we go to bahrain so could i maybe get a lift to brackley???
y/n: if you buy my coffee at each stop you’ve got a deal.
kimi: yes, yes. i know your order - THANK YOU !
she better get to packing.
the italian stood on the side of the road, wrapped up in two coats, a hat and a scarf. ollie stood beside him in just a t-shirt, some shorts and a pair of flip flops, showing off his british aversion to the cold.
y/n pulled up beside the pair and winded down the window. “don’t you know hitchhikers are dangerous?”
kimi smiled and gave ollie a quick hug, popping the boot and shoving his small suitcase in. the italian slipped into the passenger seat and waved at ollie.
“why didn’t i have the idea to ask you to be my mentor?” ollie whined, “esteban is great and he has already given me a ton of lifts but you’re you!”
“snooze you lose” kimi said, poking out his tongue.
“esteban is great ollie, don’t believe all this shit about him being a bad teammate. he’s lovely and will be more than happy to help you out. however, we do need to go because i need to drop off this princess and get a flight to monaco. ciao!”
y/n stood on the gas and flew off down the street. from the corner of her eye, y/n could see kimi studying her. this wasn’t too strange for the italian, he often just stared at her, amazed that she had even agreed.
“i can feel you staring kimi, do you have a question?”
“why are you so happy?”
y/n laughed at the bluntness. the italian sputtered, “i mean i’m happy you’re happy, but i can’t help but be suspicious. i haven’t heard a peep from you since the car launch… and a little birdy told me you left with a certain someone.”
“it’s been two days, kimi!”
“you’re still smiling, you can’t stop and considering you smiled maybe twice in the first couple days i knew you - this means something!”
“fine! you caught me. i did go home with max. i’m not saying anymore than we’re happy and we’re taking it slow. i’m telling you because i believe for a good mentor relationship i should be completely open, as should you. also you’re like a quasi-son to me so there’s also that. do not tell anyone else, i’m serious. not even ollie.”
kimi whined at that, “but i tell ollie everything!”
“well not this. you saw how some of the people, including your teammate are with me and max, i do not want to give them any ammunition, okay?”
kimi hummed to himself, his brain whirring so loudly that even y/n could hear it over the music and the road. “speaking of those who WILL be without ammunition because i WILL keep my mouth zipped shut… how are we actually planning on tackling george this season?”
y/n was making the turn off of the motorway and towards brackley as she chuckled, “aside from physically tackling him at testing? i am joking, by the way. kimi, i don’t want you to worry about george anywhere but the track. he talks a big talk, but he’s very easy to frustrate when he’s not winning. don’t give him the rise he’ll want, okay?”
the tension rose in the car, it had all been fun and games up until this point, cocktails parties and car launches. but now it was getting real. y/n had the voice in the back of her head that worried that her off-track drama with the other drivers could impact kimi’s career.
“please stop worrying, y/n. i know what you’re thinking, but i am capable of handling it myself. i may only be eighteen but i’m not afraid of anyone.”
y/n pulled up outside of the mercedes factory and turned to kimi. she grabbed his hands, “promise me, kimi. promise me that if the drama with me gets too much, you will say something. i know it’s your dream to work with me, but make sure i do not interfere with your career.”
kimi scoffed, “them being afraid of you will never be your fault, you know-”
“it doesn’t matter if my fault or not, if their pettiness fucks with you, i won’t be able to forgive myself…”
just as they spoke, george pulled up beside them in his mercedes. the brit wasn’t alone in his car however. a brunette woman sat in the passenger seat, and much like george, her eyes narrowed at the sight of y/n.
“that’s carmen, george’s girlfriend. she doesn’t usually come to the factory with him?” kimi gasped, “maybe she’s here to stake her claim on george, as if you’d want him anyway…”
y/n laughed as kimi got out of the car. the italian grabbed his stuff from the boot and walked round to the window. y/n rolled it down and the two did their handshake.
“enjoy the prep, bunny, don’t make too much mess. see you in bahrain!”
the moment was cut short by someone clearing their throat. carmen had rolled down her window and was looking at kimi, less than impressed. the italian squeaked a quick goodbye and shuffled towards the entrance.
y/n tried not to make eye contact with carmen as she inputted the airport’s address into her gps. she was baffled by the news that george even had a girlfriend, not that she wanted kimi or the couple to know that. how long had they been together? did she know about y/n and about george’s weird feud with her? too many questions and not enough answers.
george and carmen made their way past y/n’s car and stopped just in front of the entrance, pointedly in y/n’s eye line. the two kissed, messily for people their age, and just to sum up her return so far, george kept eye contact with y/n the entire time, his hand wandering lower and lower on carmen.
2025 was the year of psychological warfare it seemed. y/n could work with that.
she sped out of the car park with new vigour. if psychological warfare was what george was ordering, y/n needed to know everything about everyone. she had stayed away from the drama surrounding formula one in her three years away from the sport, but it was time to go full gossip girl.
it’s crazy how much you can find in an hour in an airline bar about your former colleagues. y/n’s phone started ringing loudly, earning her some dirty looks in the lounge.
“maxy! did you know that george dated nyck’s sister?” y/n said, shovelling the free nuts in her mouth, “and that lando and pierre once liked the same girl in dubai?”
“why oh why are you telling me about this?” max said.
“because that prick wants psychological warfare, so i have to know everything!”
max hummed, not convinced. “am i like missing something?”
“i took kimi to brackley this morning and was treated to a lovely show from george and carmen. the weirdo kept eye contact with me the entire time! so if he wants to play it like that, i gotta know my enemies.”
“as weird as this all is, i’m glad to see you’re so into all of this, miss detective.”
y/n laughed, “i know i’m reading way too much about all of this, but i swear to god if he tries to fuck with kimi or you, i’ll play dirty if i have to. i mean i just don’t understand why he’s being such an asshole now about everything i supposedly did when he has a girlfriend - insecure much?”
max laughed down the line, they really were so much more alike than people would think. hearing her now, max wished she was back in the paddock for qatar and abu dhabi last year just to see what kind of revenge she could’ve thought up.
“anyway, maxy, are you still at the factory?”
“yeah, we’re just on a break, i’m outside getting some air and i didn’t know whether you were on the plane yet or not - you know you could’ve taken air max if you wanted to?”
y/n smiled, “i didn’t need your plane for a trip to monaco, silly! i’ll only be on the flight for a little while anyway and i’m only going because i’m having withdrawal symptoms from my babies!”
“why would you say this, now i want to see them!”
the boarding sign popped up, “ah! i gotta go maxy, i’ll text you when i’m back at yours - what time does the cat sitter go?”
“she will have left like an hour or so before you get back. stay safe, i -”
there was chatter in the background, “i gotta go, bye!”
max hung up quickly. y/n was left to her thoughts again and just how much life can change. this time three years ago she was making notes about the season coming, turns to watch and previous first lap incidents and now she’s compiling gossip on the grid’s personal lives? part of her wanted to be ashamed, but in the same vain, she knew that her adversaries hadn’t spared a moment for introspection.
max’s apartment in monaco was alight with the impatient meows from brando, sassy and jimmy. the cats yowled like they hadn’t been fed in days, although clarissa, the cat sitter, had sent max and y/n nearly hourly updates on them.
“oh my babies! momma missed you so much!” y/n said, abandoning her suitcase at the door and ushering the cats towards the couch. once she was sat, brando bullied his way onto her lap, his spot, and jimmy and sassy snuggled up beside her as closely as possible.
she pulled out her phone and snapped a quick picture of herself and the cats and sent it to max.
max: all my favourites in one place, you’re making listening to christian drone on even harder
y/n: you better keep listening, maxy, don’t want anyone else winning this season do you?
max: i do hate losing…
y/n smiled to herself, there was no lying to now, this place with the cats and max felt like home. the most at home y/n had felt for years.
“right, momma needs to shower and cook, babies!” brando did not look impressed but consoled himself by going back to grooming an equally unimpressed jimmy.
y/n rustled around max’s wardrobe trying to find a smaller towel for her hair. max wasn’t the most organised, especially with a wardrobe where he could just shut the door and forget the mess behind it. she finally got the towel loose, but with the last yank, a small book came flying out of the wardrobe.
the book was a small leather-bound book, clearly loved, bursting at the seams with use. y/n flicked open the book, scanning a couple of the pages. she could recognise the handwriting anywhere, was this max’s diary?
y/n flicked through a couple more of the pages before she landed on a page that boldly stated “fuck lando” in bold capitals. oh? the page was dated for a day in january 2020, just before she started her formula one career.
she knew this was a massive invasion of privacy, but max had never mentioned having a bust up with lando around that time - her curiosity had gotten the better of her.
i don’t know what lando’s problem is? i was on a discord call with him, george and alex this evening and he was in such a mood with me. it was all about y/n as usual with him, he’s being proper weird about her. of course we’ve already started training and discussing racing lines? we’re best friends. it’s almost like he knows i have feelings for her? but i know i haven’t been THAT obvious, at least not as bad as him and george. they think i don’t know, but they must think i’m dumb or blind (or both). he’s going to ruin his friendship with her if he’s not careful. i have loved y/n for as long as i can remember, but i don’t ever intend on making that her problem - why would she ever want to be with me? they assume because they’ve known her so long that they have this weird claim on her. i don’t know - i have a bad feeling about how this might all play out… i’ll just be there for y/n, she’s going to need it…
y/n slapped the book shut, feeling guilty about just how much she had read. max had liked her for that long? even when she was a jittery rookie with hormonal acne and way too much to say. and lando has always had this problem? there was never any chance of them being good teammates was there?
it feels like there’s a surprise around every corner since y/n reopened the pandora’s box that is formula one. how much was there left to reveal? to hurt her? can she handle what other secrets the sport has waiting for her?
but on the other side, if she had stayed in the shadows, y/n would’ve never known about max’s feelings and would never have the opportunity for what she feels right now.
y/n tucked the book back in the wardrobe and tried to wash the guilt off in the shower.
bahrain international circuit
testing was a boring affair for everyone that wasn’t in or working on the car. y/n was on her third coffee of the morning just out of pure boredom. kimi was in the car for the morning session and despite him paying her salary, toto did not seem like he’d make good conversation based on the frown on his face.
y/n saw sky making their way back down the pit lane and ducked back into the drivers’ rooms. because timing and fate loved y/n, george was leaving his just at the same moment.
it took a concerted effort not to roll her eyes as she forced out a quick good morning. george stopped in his tracks.
“good morning to you too?”
y/n gave him a nod and continued to kimi’s room, george grabbed her hand.
“are we going to have a problem the entire season? all of kimi’s career?”
“why would i have a problem, george? is there a reason i should have a problem?”
george huffed, “listen to me. we used to be so close… i wasn’t the one who crashed into you, why are you treating me like this?”
“george i’m not treating you like anything! 19 other drivers didn’t hear from me, you’re not special.”
y/n took a sip of her coffee, trying to school her heart rate, “you may have not crashed into me, but you hardly said much afterwards. you didn’t even come and visit me in the hospital? you didn’t post or say a single thing about me? you barely could bring yourself to say my name, so please spare me the lecture.”
george opened his mouth to respond but stopped, he tried to make eye contact with y/n but she avoided it.
“i didn’t think you wanted to see anyone to do with formula one! and you’re you! you hate dumb shit like instagram dedications and all that stuff…”
“you and your little partner in crime seem to be baffled about how max was the one who slipped through the cracks and stayed in my life. well read between the lines, idiot! his dedication to me is still pinned on his account, my number is on his helmet and he made the effort after the crash! you did nothing and you still expect me to coddle you?”
george tried to interject, “no! i think you’ve said enough already, george. you say all of this shit about how i led you on, but now you’re bringing up old drama when you’ve been in a relationship for years? so what’s the real reason? because so help me god, you fuck with kimi and i burn this whole place down.”
just behind george, y/n saw toto come into view. the austrian’s face told her that he had heard everything.
“well wasn’t that just great, thank you, you two. next time you have a domestic at track, please lower your voice, the entire garage now knows your business.”
“toto, i can assure you i will be nothing less than professional this season. winning with mercedes is my top priority, y/n will learn her place in this garage.”
even toto seemed taken aback by george’s words. y/n turned, her shoulder knocking george’s on the way past, “i think toto is well aware of who he hired and i know my place, just like kimi knows his… don’t crane your neck too much looking up at him on the podium.”
y/n shut the door to kimi’s driver room, and slid down to the floor. it was only the first day of testing and she’s exhausted. just outside the room she can hear george and toto still talking.
“i’m just saying i think it’s insane and honestly a little disrespectful that you hired her to begin with, toto.”
“i hired her because she was a talented driver and is willing to mentor kimi. i was not aware you two had a problem, and the fact that i’ve heard so much about it now without knowing what it actually is makes me think that the problem was in fact YOU. now calm down and get ready for your session.”
okay, maybe not all hope was lost. but y/n knew that this was just the start, the real racing had yet to begin and who knows how far george could take it, especially if the mercedes is competitive and especially if he finds out about her and max.
y/n popped open her laptop to keep track of kimi’s times on track but found herself struggling to keep her eyes open. by the time her impromptu nap had finished, kimi was making his way back into the garage, finishing the morning session. y/n made her way back into the garage to greet him as he made his way out of the car.
the session looked positive for the italian, but the pair were still anxious to see how george would perform, considering both were on the same program for the day. when kimi lifted his helmet, the two made eye contact, the italian’s eyes were so expressive that y/n could already hear the excited chatter.
“oh my god, y/n that was amazing! i know i’ve driven f1 cars before but knowing it’s actually mine for the season? wow!”
“well i’m glad you enjoyed it, let’s get some electrolytes in you before we sit down to analyse everything.”
the pair headed for the mercedes hospitality, with the other morning drivers doing the same throughout the paddock. during y/n’s nap she had missed the only real incident of the day, but a certain spaniard was about to make sure she knew.
“hey! antonelli!”
kimi’s head whipped around to see an angry carlos sainz charging towards him. the spaniard was clearly taking advantage of the lack of media outlets allowed at testing, getting in kimi’s face.
“you might be a rookie, but you’ll stay out of my way, got it? impede me like that again and we’ll see what happens!”
y/n pulled kimi behind her and jabbed her finger at carlos’ chest. “you self-important asshole, he didn’t impede you it’s testing. i know you’re at williams this season, so you’re going to have to invent a storyline for yourself, but trust me, this is not the one you want.”
“stay out of this y/ln, why don’t you stick to hopping into whoever’s winning’s bed, huh?”
y/n let out a sarcastic laugh, not caring about the small crowd forming around them. “your glory days, well whatever you call being stuck in charles’ shadow, playing politics with daddy to get given wins at ferrari only to be cast aside when you got a bit too big for your boots, are over. don’t be the bitter old bitch that makes rookies’ lives hell? oh wait, you’ve always been that way haven’t you?”
“you are a perpetual victim, y/n. that was years ago, get over it.”
“and yet you still act the exact same way. telling, really.”
carlos stayed quiet this time and y/n took that as the chance to guide kimi to hospitality. with their backs turned, “she won’t always be there for you, rookie! she can’t sleep with all of the stewards and she won’t be in the office to bat her eyelashes. so watch your back.”
y/n kept walking despite kimi tugging on her arm, wanting to retaliate. “stop. let him make a fool of himself.”
despite y/n trying to de-escalate the situation, max was less willing to do so. the dutchman had only heard a fraction but that was enough to rear the head of mad max.
“you think you’re so cute with this shit don’t you, sainz,” max said, looming over the spaniard, “you people never change, it’s pathetic.”
“the only thing that’s pathetic here is you, being her lap dog - and we’re meant to be scared of you? all we gotta do is flash an ankle or raise a hand and you’ll be eating out of our palm.”
max’s hands were shaking by his side and it took everything inside of him not to lunge at carlos. y/n’s grip on kimi tightened when jos was brought up, the crowd around them tensing as well.
“i don’t know what she does for you, but you surely can’t still be falling for it all these years later. i remember at toro rosso when you’d wake up the whole camp screaming in your motorhome and you’d call her crying. a four-time world champion and you still go crawling back to her.”
“she’s worth more than you could ever wish to be. i don’t know what propaganda your dad or lando has been feeding you, but you’re a grown man, you’re too old to be falling for it. now leave her and kimi alone. i’d threaten you, but it’s unlikely that williams will be anywhere near me this season.”
max gave one last look to y/n before running back towards the red bull garage. the crowd that had formed chattered amongst themselves and started to disperse. carlos looked enraged but backed off, not without one final glare towards the italian.
“i didn’t know formula one was just this dramatic,” kimi said, “i need to work on my insults!”
y/n laughed, but a voice from behind her stopped her dead in her tracks.
“always the centre of drama, aren’t you y/n? always looking for trouble.”
zak brown.

It was an exceptionally calm hour in Seoul National University Hospital. Most nights were bustling with life, whether it’d be residential patients abusing the call button, relatives refusing to leave after visiting hours were over or an incoming emergency putting the whole hospital in a fit. But not tonight. The clock hanging on the wall opposite of the nurse’s station in the emergency department recently struck midnight. You slumped down by your desk as Haneul, your roommate, best friend and fellow colleague, dragged her legs behind her and nearly toppled over her seat. You finished off the last rounds of checking in on the inpatients on your floor, yet your social batteries were already drained and the nightshift had just started.
Haneul blew a raspberry before her head dropped onto the desk with a soft thud. She groaned and threw herself back on the chair, her arms extended and legs elevated. Her slip-on shoes barely hung onto her feet and she wasn’t faring any better.
“I’m so tired,” she complained and went limp in her seat. “I can’t wait to clock out and return to my boyfriend.”
You let out an amused huff, the pencil twirling in your fingers coming to a stop as you caught it mid air. “You mean your bed?”
“That’s what I said.”
“Ha-ha, really funny Haneul.”
“It’s a bit funny, admit it!”
You rolled your eyes at her, but couldn’t fight off the smile that spread across your face. It was never a dull moment when in Haneul’s company. You were certain that even if death were around the corner, she’d still find a way to make the situation feel light. That was probably why you two had hit it off at university. She was mostly, if not always, in a cheerful mood, while you walked around with a dark cloud over your head. Had it not been for Haneul approaching you solely because your shirt was similar to one of her favorite character’s outfits in a drama, you probably would never have become friends. A decade later and you were tighter than two peas in a pod, and even decided — after your first semester — to move into a flat together which was still your current home.
“Whatever… I can’t complain as it’s at least a quiet night.”
The unspoken rule of never mentioning the obvious flashed before your eyes and you cowered from the blazing look Haneul shot your way. The air was caught in your throats and neither dared to move an inch from your places. You slowly turned your head sideways, waiting for a patient to peek their head out or scream that their pillow needed puffing up. As the empty hallway continued staying silent and the motion sensor lights didn’t turn on, you exhaled in relief.
“You got lucky there,” she said and logged into her computer.
As you parted your mouth to answer, a voice broke through from the radio placed on the wall-mounted brackets. A report concerning a handful of people who were hurt in a fire set loose in an apartment came through and everyone ditched their tasks to get ready for the newcomers. You and Haneul, along with other nurses, ran to the trauma bay and occupied a room each where you, hopefully not, would get a patient each. The sound of multiple sirens grew louder the faster the ambulances sped toward the hospital and didn’t stop until the flashes of red and blue colored the building. Despite being employed for two years and counting, you never got accustomed to the ear piercing noise or blinding lights.
“Nurse Kim, could you prepare the wound care kit? Nurse Hwang, bring the respiratory support system. We don’t know what we’re dealing with so we need to expect the worst!”
The commotion from the triage area reached your room as the patients were being rolled into the hospital and underwent the initial assessment of their conditions. The code red patients would fall into your hands and you, together with your team, would do your utmost to lessen their injuries. You put the other glove on and waited by the door of your room. The sight before you was jarring to say the least. The victims of the fire were all in different conditions. Some crying and wincing from the burnmarks while others lay completely still as if the burned skin wasn’t a painful inconvenience. The wonders of falling unconscious. An elderly nurse with a couple of years beneath her belt pushed a stretcher toward you and you hastily moved out of the way.
Nurse Yeon quickly spewed the little information she knew of the unconscious patient, but you couldn’t focus on her words. Your entire attention was given to the man before you. He looked peaceful despite the soot smudged across his face and several burn marks littering the majority of his body. He was also handsome — very handsome. That, you couldn’t deny. His black strands fell over his closed eyes and brows. Most of his features were sharp and defined, red heart-shaped lips in a slight pout, a long nose with a prominent bridge, high cheekbones and a few beauty marks peeking out from beneath the smeared ash. But you knew that, out of everything, his most alluring feature was his eyes — even when closed. You could see the feline-like shape that reminded you of a panther in the wild and you found yourself wondering what color they were. A tingle erupted along the pads of your fingers, almost begging you to move his hair out of the way.
“...He was found unconscious in the building after being caught in the fire. Red category. He has second-degree burns on twenty percent of his body, severe smoke inhalation and is currently in respiratory distress. We’ve initiated oxygen therapy. BP is low and bolus fluids were administered to stabilize circulation. He is unresponsive, likely due to hypoxia.”
Nurse Yeon brought you back to the present and you ignored the highly unprofessional thought. With the help of Nurse Kim, you connected him to a monitoring machine and proceeded with the remaining steps of the protocol drilled into your spine. You administered high-flow oxygen via a non-rebreather mask to address the smoke inhalation and to prevent breathing issues later on.
Facing away from the patient to grab a scalpel in order to cut his already torn shirt, you just about turned your head and called out, “Nurse Kim, give him an IV fluid with saline to prevent shock and maintain blood pressure as well as a light dose of morphine to relieve him of pain. Nurse Hwang, hand me the scalpel, please.”
The nurses wasted no time following your orders. While Nurse Kim stabilized the patient’s blood pressure, you drove the sharp end of the scalpel through the center of his shirt to expose the injured area and assess what else you had to work with. As expected, there were blotches of irritated, red skin all over his upper body. It didn’t look too bad but would scar if left untreated. Your main concern was the smoke inhalation, but the high-flow oxygen proved effective, as the pulse oximeter showed that the oxygen saturation in his blood was slowly improving and you could swiftly move on to treat his wounds.
“Nurse Hwang, hand me the antiseptic soluti–”
A horrified gasp cut you off mid sentence and your head flung to the doorway where a nurse — a trainee at that — stood with her wide eyes and mouth hanging open behind her health mask. The interruption crawled beneath your skin like electricity. You glanced down at her nametag.
“Trainee Park?”
The student didn’t budge nor make a noise of acknowledgement and you had half a mind to terminate the established contract between the hospital and nursing school. You understood the weight of students gaining hands-on experience in a hospital setting, but it was beyond the agreement for a student to interrupt a life alternating moment for the patient.
“Trainee Park I won’t ask you a second time, what is it?!”
Antiseptic solution in hand, you faced the student again, though her focus wasn’t on you but on something behind you. A line formed between your brows as you followed her gaze, leading to what she was staring at. Your patient still lay unconscious, his chest rising and falling in rhythmic motion, but you weren’t caught off guard by his regulated breathing. The patches of glaring red skin that previously looked painful to the eye were replaced with a lighter hue as if his body was recovering on its own. It was inhumane and in all your years as both a student and a licensed doctor, you had never seen anything like it. However, everyone in the room knew exactly what it meant.
“Fuck…”

One of the male nurses found the patient’s ID-card in the cardholder neatly tucked in the pocket of his pants while changing him into a hospital gown, but it was the teary look on Haneul after seeing the man’s face that everything clicked in place. Choi San, the little brother of your best friend, was your soulmate.
The realization didn’t hit you while standing in the center of the trauma room or when his injuries healed more quickly beneath the touch of your finger. The fact that you had found your soulmate dawned on you early one morning, as you were making rounds between the remaining victims of the apartment fire and came across his room — the last patient to be checked on. The thought of finding your soulmate hadn’t crossed your mind in years. It was locked away in your old high school classroom, along with your youth, when you used to fret over who your soulmate might be. Would they be a foreigner? A celebrity? A boy or a girl? Rich, kind, or rude? The possibilities seemed endless, and you often spent more time daydreaming about the different outcomes than focusing on your studies. It was a miracle you didn’t fail most of your classes.
It was only when you set a goal that you lost interest in who your soulmate was and dedicated more of your time to studying. Little by little, as assignments piled up, you pushed the thought of your other half to the back of your mind and forgot about it. Of course, there were instances when the topic would come up every now and then — meeting distant relatives for the first time in forever and having them ask about your partner, or going out to dinner with Haneul and watching her get so drunk she forgets her own name, but still manages to make bets. Looks like you’d be treating her to that BBQ after all.
You entered the room and stopped at the end of the patient bed staring at San’s sleeping form. The harmless jealousy seeped into your bones as he lay there oblivious to the turmoil wrecking havoc inside of you and you wondered if, despite his unconscious state, he could feel even a glimpse of your emotions. Because you could feel him throughout your entire shift. The change in breathing, eyes fluttering, the subtle rise and fall of his chest as if he was right there with you.
The joke you once cracked to Haneul when you first started working there, something along the lines of finding your soulmate while tending to their wounds, wasn’t funny anymore and left a bitter aftertaste on your tongue. You sighed and glanced down at the patient chart hanging off the bedside. His vitals were good. More than good considering he was being driven straight from a burning building. Doctor Jung ran some tests on him during the night and they confirmed that San suffered greatly until he arrived at the hospital, until he reached you.
The doors of the room were violently pushed open and the eldest Choi entered as if her brother wasn’t lying there unconscious. Her unexpected arrival stopped your thoughts from spiraling further and your heart from racing into palpitations. It was weird to see her lips pressed into a thin line and eyes void of light, replacing her usual dimpled smile that would brighten your day.
“How is he?” She eventually asked and buried her hands in the pockets of her white coat.
You cleared your throat and mimicked her stance, both of you focused on the resting man. “He’s healthier than a newborn baby.”
Five hours of constantly being on your feet, moving around and not having the chance to take a five minute toilet break put you in a hazy mist. It wasn’t until now that you felt the weight of the situation sink in. Who would’ve thought your best friend’s brother was your soulmate?
“You know,” Haneul started and broke you out of your thoughts. “I’m happy it’s you. Someone I know and trust as much as I trust myself.”
The words were oddly warm and spread a branch of hope through you. While you were too caught up with your work and then your own feelings, you didn’t stop to think what Haneul thought of everything. Her two worlds were colliding and it could either be good or bad.
“Is it weird?”
“Not at all… It’s the best thing I could ask for. That my best friend and brother get along… Just…” Haneul gnawed on the side of her bottom lip and turned to you, “Just don’t hurt him, Jeong. San is a tough cookie, but he has a fragile heart and I really don’t want to ever choose between you. You are both very dear to me.”
“You won’t have to. I’m pretty sure I couldn’t hurt him even if I tried.”
Haneul chuckled despite the tears making their escape down her cheeks. “Is it really like how they say? Are you already… affected by him?”
You breathed out a laugh at that. The countless nights spent talking and making fun of other couples who had already found their happily ever after were sure biting you in the ass, because it was, in fact, exactly how they said it would be. The unexplainable pull drawing you toward him, the yearning to be by his side and feeling him everywhere. Every skip of his heart, harsh intake of air and twitch of his fingers were all transferred to you
“Yeah, it’s exactly how they say it is.”
Haneul eventually left to do her last rounds and finish writing reports until the sun peeked over the horizon, signaling the end of your second night shift that week. San didn’t wake up until a few hours later and despite being hooked to a monitor regulating his state and showing nothing out of the ordinary, you didn’t leave his side for even a second. The dread of another emergency report coming through squeezed your abdomen until you were on the verge of puking. Just the thought of parting from him almost sent you hurling your insides in the guest bathroom. You were lucky to have wonderful colleagues who understood the circumstances and reassured you multiple times not to worry about finishing your reports or doing rounds. Nurse Hwang and Kim even passed by with snacks and water before returning to work.
The clock struck early morning when your chin slid off your knuckles and you were unpleasantly awoken from your slumber. The fear of falling to your death had you jumping out of your seat and taking in your surroundings. The sun gently shone through the windows occupying the entire left side of the room and filled the space with auburn streaks kissing your face. The warm rays seeped through the cherry blossom trees planted along the outskirts of the hospital. You found the view to be exceptionally beautiful during the early mornings when the pink petals detached from the branches, swirling in the air like snowflakes and covering the boring cement pavement..
A laser like heat bored into the side of your head and you scanned the room to find the source, only to get lost in the eyes of your soulmate. A wide smile stretched across his face and you realized the dimple gene ran deep in the Choi family as an identical pair to Haneul’s popped on San’s cheeks. You couldn’t shake away the image of a content and well fed cat at the sight of him.
San immediately shifted the blanket to the side and had one bare foot planted on the floor, ready to leap out of bed and wrap you in his arms. The man just about managed to stand on both legs when you rushed from your seat and gently pushed him back down.
“No, no, please, sit!”
San fell back on the mattress without much of a fight. The moment your hand made contact with his shoulder, an explosion of tingles erupted along your palm, spreading like wildfire through your arm and out to the rest of your limbs, reaching the tips of your toes and fingers. The air caught in your throat and, like magnets forced together, your eyes found his again. Neither of you had to vocalize the question balancing on the tip of your tongues, asking if the other felt that crackling fire. San sensed the twinge of worry squeezing at your heart and hummed in content, he reached out and grabbed one of your hands in his to ease the burden atop your shoulders. He smiled so hard his eyes turned into crescent moons and hadn’t you known better, you’d think he’d start purring like a cat receiving ear scratches.
“I’m fine. I don’t need rest because you are here.”
You ignored the heat pooling beneath your cheeks at his rather flamboyant response and steered the conversation elsewhere. “What were you thinking running into a burning building?”
The words came out effortlessly, as if you had known him since your youth.
“I didn’t do it on purpose…” He began and jutted out his bottom lip. “My feet just moved on their own, call it an instinct. Besides, I couldn’t just leave everyone inside. I’d put shame on the entire fire department!”
“Curse you for being reckless and kind hearted, San.”
“Yet thanks to my recklessness, I landed in the hospital and found you.”
The cheeky reply nearly made you pop a blood vessel. You didn’t understand how he could be so calm after facing death less than eight hours ago. The monitor attached to him shouldn’t have been stable. Based on your past experience with burn victims, San should’ve been startled and shaken up, and in some uncomfortable pain. Instead, he remained unnervingly composed, his eyes fixed on you with an intensity that made you question your own knowledge. His calmness felt unnatural, given the circumstances. The heart rate monitor, which should’ve shown elevated readings due to stress, stayed oddly steady and only spiked up when you spoke, moved or looked at him for too long.
“San… we are soulmates. We would’ve met eventually,” you hissed, trying to mask the look of realization on your face. The soulmate bond explained his calm demeanor. As he said, he was fine now that you were there, while you just wanted to cover him in bubble wrap and not let him out of your sight.
“Yes, but not soon enough.”
You abandoned the conversation for now as it wouldn’t lead anywhere. San was deadset on his decision being correct even though it was a foolish one and you still had a job to do. Ignoring the way he followed your every movement, a polite smile and creased eyes never leaving your form, you adjusted his pillows and checked the IV attached to his forearm.
“Do you need anything else?”
“Hmmm, just you.”
Had you met under different circumstances, perhaps in a grocery store where you'd bump carts together or on a packed bus where he’d give up his seat for you and stand by your side to shield you from the other commuters, his charms would’ve worked. But you didn’t. Instead San decided to search the burning building for others with no gear, just his strong will and hope clinging onto his back, and all his attempts at flirting were futile as you couldn’t get the image of his unconscious body out of your head.
“Too bad,” you settle on saying. “You can’t have me before twelve PM.”
The pout intensified and he even crossed his arms in retaliation. Seeing a man in his late twenties throw a silent tantrum wasn’t something you thought you’d ever find endearing, but there you were, suppressing a laugh and yearning to smooth out the wrinkles on his forehead.
“Do you have to go?” He whispered and looked up at you through his lashes.
“Yes, unless you want me to be fired?”
“Fine! But the second that clock hits twelve, you and I are both getting out of here.”
“You can’t just leave, San, they have to run tests and–”
“I’ve never felt better and I think every doctor in the building can agree with me. What I will be if I don’t get to spend time with you is sick, and sad, and heartbroken and–”
“I get it, I get it!”

San lived up to his promise of spending time with you. In fact, he wasted no time running down the hallway the moment the minute hand switched to twelve, asking everyone dressed in white cloaks where Doctor Jeong was. The question left his mouth for the tenth time that minute just as you rounded the corner, ready to check out. San gave you all of three seconds to bid your colleagues goodbye before whisking you away. His plan of getting to know you consisted of lying tangled up on his sofa with a meaningless movie playing in the background, while his fingers caressed your back and his eyes shifted back to you every other second, as if he couldn’t believe you were real.
You weren’t faring any better. Your head was neatly tucked beneath his chin, and your hand was splayed over his right pectoral, the tips of your fingers gently rubbing soothing motions beneath the curve of his collarbone. Had you known your soulmate would be a kitten with separation anxiety, you’d have stalled on meeting him for a little while longer. Although, deep down, you knew that was a lie. San was everything you needed him to be and more: attentive, gentle, sweet, kind, caring — the list was truly endless.
The days spent cocooned together — San on sick leave to recover from the accident and you having the next two days off from work — made up for the thirty-something years you hadn’t been in each other’s lives. In just forty-eight hours, you created a bond that most lifelong best friends would envy. He shared embarrassing stories from his and Haneul’s childhood days — sweet memories of how his mother dressed him in Haneul’s hand-me-downs, despite her closet mainly consisting of flower dresses and cute skirts. In return, you told him about that one time you accidentally locked your parents out on the balcony and then hurled your breakfast back out from the anxiety and fear of never seeing them again. If only little you could have understood the wonders of spare keys and that your grandmother was already on her way to solve the issue.
The first night was spent staying up late, talking about heartfelt stories and niche interests to the point where you both passed out and didn’t wake up until late afternoon the next day. Who knew your hunk of a fireman liked collecting sweet plushies and was adamant on learning how to crochet?
That wasn’t everything though. A week into your freshly established relationship and San hadn’t missed to stop by your workplace once to give you lunch, coffee, midnight snacks or a quick peck on the cheek. It was easy in the beginning when San didn’t return to work for an entire week. The soulmate bond proved that he wasn’t in need of resting as much as his company thought and he eventually had to return earlier than expected. It was weird to be glued to each other for hours on end to then not be able to see each other because of your hectic schedules that never seemed to align. When you’d return home from a long night shift, he was dressed and ready to leave.
You voiced your worries to Haneul during a lunch break, saying how you were afraid of moving too fast, but now that you barely got to spend time together, it felt like you were moving at a snail’s pace. She mildly reassured you that it craved more than some social distance for your soulmate bond to break and that it would take some time for you to find your footing in the relationship.
However, working multiple shifts a week while running on little to no sleep left you too exhausted to plan an outing whenever an opportunity for the two of you to spend time together appeared. Date-night looked different in the Choi-and-Jeong books. Instead of glamming up and booking a reservation at a fancy restaurant, you decided to stay in and watch a movie that would sooner or later be forgotten as you’d be too enamoured with each other. Haneul walked in on one too many make-out sessions, and thus, you came to the decision to host movie nights strictly at San’s apartment.
Like many times before, you lay atop San, his legs parted, giving you the option to cage his left one between yours. One of his arms was bent and propped behind his head to act as a cushion, while the other was curled around you, his hand pressing against the small of your back in a comforting embrace. Your cheek was mushed against his chest and your hand limply rested on his bicep. A movie played on the big screen and a plethora of snacks were strewn out on the coffee table but left untouched. You joked about how, ever since San entered your life, your sugar cravings had dramatically decreased because he was bringing too much sweetness into it.
“Honey?” San broke the comfortable silence and spoke over the characters on the TV. You hummed in reply and he continued. “I want to ask you something.”
As you shifted to get a better look at him, he pulled you in a tight embrace and you immediately stopped moving. “Don't look at me, just… listen? Please?”
“Okay, Sannie, what is it?”
“How do you feel about… moving in… with me? Or me with you!” You could hear the blush attacking his cheeks and embarrassment clinging onto his voice as it grew higher in the end and the words came out in a rush.
Joy tugged at your lips and you couldn’t stop the light hearted chuckle from slipping out in the room. You broke out of his gentle hold and grabbed his hand in yours, and planted a chaste kiss on it.
“I think I’d love that.”
Without warning, he squeezed your cheeks between his palms and captured your lips in a tender kiss, leaving your insides warm and mushy. Despite having muscles the size of a watermelon and broad shoulders that could carry the entirety of Noah’s ark, San was a real softie. He had the habit of holding you as if you were the most valuable possession on the earth, a feather which could crumble at contact or a cube of sugar that would melt beneath the rain. The shared kisses were brief but left a tingle on your lips that you couldn't get enough of and nearly whined in retaliation as San withdrew to catch his breath.
“I adore you, like really, really much,” he confessed and kissed you again, and again, and again. The peppered kisses were planted all over your face — nose, cheeks, mouth, chin, eyes, forehead. The endearing act of love pulled a string of giggles straight out of your tummy, cursing you with an ache that your grandmother would call remedy for the soul.
One moment he was on you and the next, he turned you over to lay against the couch while he scrambled to his bedroom on the other side of the apartment. You pushed yourself up on your forearms with only your upper body lifted as you curiously watched San runoff as if his rear caught on fire.
“Sannie?”
“Just a second, honey!”
Rough shuffling reached the living room, but it was the loud crash of objects clattering on the ground that you almost headed to see the commotion yourself. San’s reassuring voice telling you everything was okay didn’t help you relax, but you trusted his judgement and remained seated. The eager wait was short lived as San returned with something tightly clutched in his right hand and stopped by the end of the couch, back uncomfortably straight and face pinched into a serious expression. Hadn’t you known him for a little shorter than a month, you’d assume he was about to get down on one knee and ask you to live the rest of your life by his side.
San cleared his throat and extended his arm low enough for you to see his well manicured fingernails. You shuffled over closer to the end of the sofa and sat up on your knees. His fingers unfolded and exposed the trinket laying in the center of his palm. An apartment key. The spare key to his apartment to be precise.
“I know we haven’t known each other for that long, but I’ve never been sure of anything more than this and I really want to take this next step with you.”
“Are you asking me to marry you or move in with you?”
Red dusted his cheeks and he had to look away. Your own lips curved up as his eyes creased into crescent moons, a telltale of his dimpled smile making an appearance. San covered his mouth as if it would make his smile disappear. Testing the waters, he asked, “Would you say yes?”
“I guess you’ll have to find out.”
San was sure he could pass out right then and there. His cheeks hurt from smiling too much, but it was the only pain he would ever welcome with open arms. You climbed onto the couch and jumped into San's arms and he effortlessly caught you, his hands finding their designated place on your hips and thighs while your arms slid around his neck like a koala. Your fronts were pressed against each other, but you continued pulling him toward you, as if the chance of becoming one entity was higher than inventing flying cars. San dipped you down princess-style and stole a long kiss, one that you were more than eager to reciprocate. Your fingers tangled in his black hair, nails soothingly scratching his scalp, and your heart swelled with so much love and happiness it felt like it could explode and fill the living room with colorful confetti.
It was a shame the human needed air every few minutes because all you wanted to do in that moment was feel him everywhere. Breaking apart, you rested your forehead against his, hot breaths fanning across each other’s lower faces, chests rising with fervor as your bodies desperately tried to reclaim the lost oxygen."
“I’d say yes a hundred times over,” you breathed out, “but let’s save that for after we meet the in-laws.”
“My parents have already scheduled a day for when we can go to Namhae,” he eagerly replied to which you hastily leaned back, nearly sending you both tumbling over.
“San! I swear you’re unbelievable.”
“Unbelievably in love with you.”
Lips swollen, eyes welling with joy and hearts beating erratically, the world paused as you looked at each other. The diploma neatly placed on your desk and the knowledge you had collected over the years seemed insignificant when the love you harbored for San could regrow burned forests, mend broken bridges and heal even the most shattered of hearts.

Living with San was nothing out of the ordinary, except that you saw each other more now that you lived under the same roof. Considering your shared apartment with Haneul was bigger than San’s, it only made sense for the Choi siblings to switch places. That way you kept your room and San took Haneul’s. You quickly realized you could’ve just moved into San’s apartment instead as neither ever went to sleep alone. More often than not, San would crawl into your bed, claiming it was cozier than his, but you knew even the ground would be a great sleeping place as long as you were in his arms. That was precisely what you wanted — to be in San’s arms. Instead you were working another night shift, the most hectic one since the fire incident a couple of weeks ago.
A young man, no older than twenty, had been in a motorcycle crash, leaving him with severe pain and swelling in his right leg, which was pushed into an unnatural position. The skin was entirely torn off, exposing blood and muscle tissue. You had a suspicion about how severe the situation was, but it still called for an X-ray examination. As expected, the results confirmed multiple fractures of the femur and tibia, requiring surgery the next day at the latest. Changmin, as his driver’s license indicated, was in immense pain and even struggled with breathing difficulties into the night. This left you and your co-workers with no choice but to monitor him closely throughout the remainder of your shift. To say it was tiring would be an understatement. Your feet were so sore it felt like walking on a rug of medical needles and your back ached, begging you to lie in bed and not get up until the birds returned from Southeast Asia.
The only thing pushing you through the long day was the fact that you knew San was waiting on you at home. It didn’t matter if he was awake or not. Your tense muscles relaxed by the thought of burying your face in his chest and forget the world until your batteries were restored again. It became a routine for the both of you. When one had a more physically draining day at work, the other was ready to pamper them and make them feel completely taken care of.
After a few failed attempts to insert the key into the door, you finally managed to unlock it. A stream of blue light illuminated the otherwise dark apartment and was accompanied by muffled voices coming from the living room. You haphazardly threw your shoes off, not bothering to neatly place them next to one of San’s hundred pairs of sneakers, and instinctively followed the animated sounds that belonged in a cartoon.
The scene you were met with nearly brought you to tears. San was seated in the middle of the sofa, a fuzzy blanket thrown over his head and shoulders, with two mugs of hot cocoa steaming on the table in front of him. The bag slung over your shoulder slipped off and fell to the floor with a gentle thud. Your jacket — a gift from San’s closet — was at least two sizes too big, making you look like a bear ready to hibernate. The colorful scarf you had been wearing since your teenage years reached up to your nose. San whipped his head in your direction and his stoic expression softened into one of understanding at the sight of fresh tears coating your waterline. His lips curled into a small, reassuring smile that spoke more of compassion than words ever could.
He quickly lifted one side of the blanket and beckoned you over with a gentle command. “C’mere honey.”
That was the last straw for your tears to start rolling. You wasted no time shedding your outer layers of clothing and curling into San’s side. A sob that you had been holding in throughout the entire car ride home vibrated against his chest. San ran his hand up and down your back while whispered praises tickled your ear. He planted a kiss on your crown and pulled you over him as he fell back against the couch. You adjusted yourself more comfortably, both legs falling on either side of his hips so as not to fall, and he swiftly maneuvered the blanket to shield you from the chilly atmosphere. The minutes ticked by and you had no perception of how long you stayed in that position, but your sobs eventually subdued to soft sniffling.
“How did you know?” You whispered, a tremble hanging onto your vocal chords, and sat up.
San’s hands travelled to rest on your waist, thumbs rubbing circular motions into your flesh. “I just… felt you.”
“Felt me?”
He hummed, “I still do. Happiness, sadness, fear, anger — everything, right here.” His hand hovered over your heart and you understood. You really did.
There was no scientific explanation for the emotional connection that kept you in tune with each other’s feelings. The unexpected pressure weighing down on your lungs at even the slightest discomfort or worry he experienced, like when he stumbled upon a video of a duckling being separated from its mother. It was uncanny how your heart soared hours before he came home with good news about a promotion, or the unexplainable sense of pride you had been carrying all day — only to discover it was coming from San, who had helped a kitten down from a tree. You’d never forget the day the bitter taste of dandelion greens spread across your tongue, only to find San lying in bed, caving under the weight of his blue emotions. The best part of the connection, though, would be the buckets of love pouring into your bucket as he hugged, kissed and worshipped you. However, there was one emotion you hadn’t received any signs of.
Your fingers found purchase on the hem of his shirt that rode up his stomach and revealed a sliver of the toned skin beneath. “I don’t feel… your anger.”
San flashed you a blinding smile and spurts of daffodils curved around your heart. “That’s because nothing makes me angry, love.”
“Really? Nothing?”
“Nothing.”
A beat passed and you sighed, “I’m always angry.”
“I wouldn’t say you’re angry, just… frustrated.”
“It’s practically the same thing,” you argued and continued fiddling with his shirt. He captured your hands in his and halted your anxious picking.
“It isn’t, not by definition. We feel frustrated when we are unable to progress, while anger is the response to something we perceive as wrong or harmful… You’re not angry, my love, you’re frustrated and probably overworked too.”
Your bottom lip caught between your teeth as you mulled over his words. It made sense, and you didn’t need to voice the comfort it brought you; he felt it. The unruly waves quieted to a steady push-and-pull, letting you breathe as the knot of emotions slowly untangled to nothing.
“You know, I’m supposed to be the older one out of the two of us.”
A hearty laugh filled the previously gloomy room, immediately illuminating the four cold walls, and San caught your waist again as he shifted, the echoes of his laughter filling the space.
“Don’t you worry your pretty little head about that. It'd be my honor to make you feel like a teenage girl again.”
That he did. It was almost embarrassing how his sweet gestures had you leaping face first into your pillows and rapidly firing your feet against the comforter. One would believe you were closer to being fifteen than thirty, and while you had a mild crisis, you were still grateful San brought that youthfulness out of you again.
“Was it a rough day?”
The sentimental moment burst like a fragile soap bubble at the slightest of touches. You took a breath of air and San slid his hand further up your wrists, placing his thumbs in the center of your palms while the remainder of his fingers wrapped around the back of your hand. It was grounding and kept you from re-visiting the gut wrenching thoughts that plagued your mind while tending to the young patient.
“A young guy was rushed to the ER… He got into a motorcycle accident and flew maybe a good ten meters from the crash place, and totally fucked up his leg. It was by sheer luck he didn’t suffer head injuries, let alone injuries to the rest of his body.”
You still saw the image of his bloodied body and torn clothes, a sight that would leave you with nightmares for days.
“He was in really critical condition, San. We couldn’t leave him alone for even one second. I’m talking about twenty four-hour care… He’s going into surgery tomorrow. He’ll survive, but it’s just... He reminded me of you. How you’re literally in danger every time you go to work and– and how easily I could lose– lose– lose–”
The words caught in your throat as your voice grew higher in pitch. San gave your hands another squeeze and pulled you back down onto him. You wasted no time burying your face in his neck and his arms automatically wrapped around you — one finding purchase at the back of your head while the other securely encircled your back.
“I don’t want to lose you, San.”
“You won’t lose me, love.”
“You don’t know that!”
“What I know is that I always do my best to come back to you in one piece. To my home, no?” The hand that had been placed against your head wrapped around the back of your neck and gently massaged it.
Like a flower opening up to catch the first few sun rays of the day, you put your heart out and allowed San a glimpse of what was inside.
“It just scared me,” you said between shuddering breaths. “Anything could happen, San, and I don’t know what I’d do with myself if you–”
“Honey.” His voice wasn’t stern, but it held a certain finality to it. As gentle as a newborn kitten, he carefully eased you back, pulling you away from where your face had been pressed against his neck. With a soft motion, he tilted your head slightly, getting a better look at your face.“Thinking of the what ifs isn’t good for anyone.”
You wanted to reply with an ‘I know’, but you knew better than to lie to him.
He wiped a stray tear off your cheek and you nuzzled against his palm. “Look, I love that you think you need me, but it’s not true. We managed more than fine on our own and just because we’ve found each other doesn’t mean we can’t function alone anymore… I love that you feel comfortable enough to lean on me, darling, but at the end of the day, you’re strong because of who you are and not because I’m here.
“And if, but just if, anything were to happen to me, I need you to know that you aren’t alone. You’d still have Haneul there. My parents. Your parents. Nurse Kim and Nurse Hwang too. That’s eight more people than me.”
Your hand enveloped his cradling your cheek. “I don’t want to think of a life without you in it.”
“Good because you’re stuck with me forever and ever and ever and ever!”
A wet giggle sounded through the living room and San’s rough chuckle blended perfectly with your sweet hiccups. Overwhelmed by the affection filling your humble abode, successfully warming every corner of the apartment, you intertwined your fingers behind San’s neck and determinedly pulled him into a heart-searing kiss. Your mouths molded together in a perfect fit, much like the famous art piece by Auguste Rodin. The sculpture representing a pair of lovers destined to remain together forever, until parted by death.
San breathed life into you with simple gestures that could restore chivalry. His eyes finding yours in a crowded room, silently checking up on you as you were both tugged in opposite directions by your mutual friends. Walking the empty streets after a successful date night, the gentle brush of his fingers skimming over yours before slipping between the gaps and pulling your hand into the pocket of his coat with the excuse of keeping you warm. Slothing his front to your back in the solitude of your home as you’d be too busy for a long cuddle session on the couch. Not to mention the kisses spread throughout the day—morning, noon, and night. He’d see you off with a peck and welcome you with the same sentiment, wishing you a good night or day before taking off.
The memories you collected during your still-new relationship pushed you forward, giving you hope and belief that you were going to get through this. San’s promise of never leaving — intentionally or unintentionally — comforted you and the dreadful thoughts hadn't returned, and hopefully, they wouldn’t ever. But if they ever did reoccur, you knew San would be there to chase them away.

let me know what you think
wc: 8.8k
trigger warning: suicide
———
in seven days, god created the world. in seven seconds, i shattered mine.
Alessia Russo had always known that her career wouldn’t last forever. No footballers did. But a career ending the way Alessia’s did come unexpected — abrupt, final, and out of her control.
Alessia was living the life of her dreams. Signing for Manchester United after playing for the University of North Carolina, she felt unstoppable. Nothing can slow her down… until.
Eighty minutes into the match against Manchester City, the score is tied at two. Alessia was running down the right side, ball at her feet when…
“Alessia Russo has gone down!” The announcer screamed. “Russo has not moved. The medical team is rushing to her now.”
The stadium was eerily silent, players on the field formed a circle around her and the medical team to give them privacy. Everyone was holding their breath. The stretcher came out and carried Alessia away, still no signs of life.
“I was just told that both teams have decided to forfeit the match. Everyone’s a bit shaken up, understandably so. Thank you all for watching. Prayers and well wishes to Alessia Russo.”
Once Alessia becomes conscious, the first thing she hears is the beeps from the monitors, wires attached all over her. She was confused at first, the last thing she remembered was running down the pitch and now here she was laying in a hospital bed.
“Oh, good. You’re awake.” A nurse walked into the room, checking that everything is still in good order. “I’ll go ahead and call your doctor.”
More waiting.
“It’s nice to see you awake.” The doctor says, sitting on the stool.
“What happened?” her voice was raspy, throat was dry.
“Well, this isn’t easy to hear, but you suffered a cardiac arrest.”
“What?” She was speechless.
“We found out that you have a congenital heart failure. It was surprising to us that it hadn’t been caught before.”
“What-what does this mean? I can still play right?”
The doctor sighed, “I’m sorry Alessia.”
Football is… was her whole life. What was she supposed to do now?
The news of her retirement came as a shock to everyone. No one knew. Not even her teammates, her friends. Alessia just up and left, the social media post was the last thing people — except her family — had heard from her.
You were sitting on a chair placed in the corner of the living room. The room was almost pitch black, all the curtains were shut. You were staring into space like you’ve been doing for the last couple of weeks. You were a void. You shut everyone out.
The phone ringing brings you out of your thoughts. Sighing, you slowly get up from your seat, trudging to where the phone is.
“What?” you grated out.
“Well, hello to you too sunshine.” the voice on the other side replied.
“What d’you want Samuel?”
“Can’t a brother check up on his sister?”
“If that’s all you’re calling for then goodbye.”
You were about to hang up the phone when, “Wait, wait, wait! Don’t hang up yet.”
“What is it?” you put the phone back to your ear.
“I wanna come see you.”
“Goodbye, Samuel.”
You hung up, carelessly throwing the phone somewhere. You needed to get out of the house, so you threw on a jacket and made your way out, walking to a cafe not far from where you live. You sat at a table in the corner observing all the people in the room. The bell of the front door rings, alerting everyone of another customer.
You see a flash of blonde from the corner of your eye, but you were too occupied with staring at your cup of coffee. Eventually getting bored, you scan the room again, seeing some new faces. One particular face intrigues you though. She was alone, like you, staring out the window. You don’t realize that you’re still staring until her eyes lock onto yours.
Her eyebrows furrow, probably wondering why you were looking at her. Curious, she gets up from her seat, cup in hand, and walks towards you. You move your gaze back to your coffee hoping she doesn’t walk up to you.
“Were you looking at me?” she asks, sitting down on the vacant seat across the table from you.
“Huh?” you reply, looking at her.
“I was sitting over there,” she points to where she was sitting. “Were you staring at me? Why were you staring at me?”
You take a sip of your coffee, taking a deep breath. “You intrigue me.”
“I-what? I intrigue you?” She was taken aback, not expecting that to come out of your mouth.
“Yeah, I don’t know. There is just… something about you.”
“Do you recognize me or something?”
“No? Am I supposed to?” you ask, now curious as to why she would think you would recognize her.
“Story for another time.”
You both start talking about anything and everything, the conversation easily flowing.
“Alright, listen. I gotta run, but it was great chatting with you.” You chug the rest of your coffee, smiling at Alessia as you walk away.
“Wait!” she exclaims, a hand grabbing onto your arm. “I’d like to continue our conversation.”
“What’re you saying?”
“I’d like your name and possibly also your number.”
A small smile makes its way to your lips. You pat your pockets, hand going into your right pants pocket pulling a pen out. Taking the napkin on the table, you scribble your number on it, clicking your pen to be put back in your pocket.
“Name’s Y/N. Yours?”
“Alessia.”
“Well Alessia, I’ll be waiting for your call.”
With that, you walk away, leaving Alessia with a giddy smile on her face.
Pulling into a parking spot, you grab all that you have and head to the counter. You don’t see anyone, so you walk around when a person steps out from behind the curtain, signaling you to walk back to the front.
“Welcome to the Travel Inn, can I help you?”
“I need a room.”
“How many hours?”
“A couple weeks.”
Turning the key into the lock, you push the door open, quickly scanning the room. Setting your things down, you sit on the bed, reading over a newspaper you’ve kept for the last couple of months.
Seven Killed In Fatal Car Crash, One in Critical Condition
That night kept replaying in your mind.
The next day, you’re stood at Alessia’s front door, her inviting you over this morning.
“Hey, come in.”
Sitting at the table, she places a fresh cup of coffee in front of you.
“Thank you,” you say, taking a sip. “This is good coffee.”
You both picked up where you left off at the cafe, the conversation easily flowing. Alessia was light and full of life, but you can tell there’s something hidden beneath it all.
“What’s your story?”
“What?”
“Sorry, I don’t mean to be blunt, but the happiest people usually have the saddest story.”
You can see a sad smile appear on her face like she was reminiscing.
“I used to play football.”
“Used to?”
“Yeah and not to brag but I was pretty good.”
You chuckle, “Really?”
“Yeah.”
“What happened?”
“Well, one game, I was on the field and the next thing I was lying in a hospital bed.”
You pause, your mind going back to your memories.
You look around the room. Everything is a bit blurry.
“Wh-where am I?”
“Ms. Y/LN, calm down please.”
You rip the oxygen mask off of your face. “Emily! Where's my Emily?”
“Hey,” a touch on your arm brings you out of your head. “You okay? You spaced out a bit.”
“Yeah, sorry. What happened when you woke up?”
Alessia bites her lip, trying to keep it together.
“I was confused. I mean one moment I was on the pitch, running towards the goal and the next I was waking up in a hospital bed. I didn’t know why I was there, wires attached all over me.” You reach across the table, placing a comforting hand on her own. “They told me that I was lucky to wake up. I asked them if I would be able to play football again and they said ‘One more match could be the last thing you ever do.’ There was only one thing I had to do and so I announced my retirement.”
Your heart aches as you listen, the weight of her words sinking in. You squeeze her hand gently, offering a silent support before speaking.
“I can’t imagine how hard that must’ve been,” you say softly. “Giving something up that’s been your whole world… I’m so sorry.”
Her eyes flicker with a mix of pain and acceptance. “Yeah, but I had to choose life, even if it meant letting go of the dream.”
You nod, understanding the sacrifice. “You’re still that player, though. Everything you achieved—everything you fought for—that doesn’t just disappear.”
A faint smile tugs at her lips. “Thanks… I needed to hear that.”
The air between you shifts, heavier with understanding but lighter with hope.
You get back to the motel, carrying a glass tank, the guy behind the counter following behind you.
“You know you can’t take that in.”
“That’s good to know.” You smile at him, opening your door. “Have a good night,” you say, shutting the door on him.
You step into the warm cascade of water, letting it wash over your skin. The droplets trail down your body, mingling with the weight of your thoughts. The day has been heavy—every day has been heavy—but for a brief moment, the water feels like a release.
“C’mon! Just tell me where else we’re going!” she grabs onto your hand, the one that was resting on her thigh.
You run your hand across your face, clenching your eyes shut.
“I’m not telling you!” you glance at her, smiling at her before you look back toward the road. “It’s Valentine’s Day! Let me surprise you.”
“It better be good then baby.”
You turn the shower off, drying yourself off with a towel. Stumbling out of the shower, you wrap the towel around yourself, taking a seat at the edge of the tub.
“Oh, you have no idea!”
It happened so fast.
You’re driving, the road stretching out ahead of you, the hum of the engine steady beneath your hands. Her laughter is still ringing in your ears—light, warm—filling the car with life. You glance over at her, just for a second, catching the curve of her smile. She’s happy. They all are.
Your heart was full.
And then—
Metal twists. Tires scream. Glass explodes into a thousand stars. The world flips and everything slows as you’re weightless — suspended in the wreckage of a single, irreversible moment.
You hear it before you see it — the crunch of steel, the splintering of lives.
Her laughter is gone, replaced by the sound of cries.
You reach out, but your hand finds nothing.
The car settles. The silence was thick and suffocating.
Standing in front of the mirror, you stare at yourself, hands gripping the edge of the sink. You want to forget it all, but you can’t.
You call her name — desperate and pleading. Your voice cracks, but there's no answer, just shallow breaths fading, then nothing at all.
You see her face, all broken and bloody. Her warmth was stolen away in an instant.
Your chest caves under the weight of it. The guilt floods in, sharper than any shards of glass.
This is your fault.
You scream.
You killed the person you loved.
Tears stream down your face.
The adrenaline wears off. You’re laid next to her, clutching her body in your arms. That’s how the paramedics found you, passed out, your arms around your lover.
You wake up but don’t open your eyes just yet.
For a few seconds, you let yourself in that in-between space — half-asleep, half-aware, floating just outside of reality. The bed is warm, your body heavy with exhaustion from all the tears you shed last night. You wanted to stay in bed, not having the motivation to get up.
Your eyes open.
The ceiling stares back at you, unchanged, but you know the moment is over. The memories from that night haunt your mind. You are about to close your eyes and drift off when your phone rings. Not looking at the screen, you answer.
“Hey, sorry for calling you so early,” you hear through the phone, making you sit up.
“Alessia,” you say breathily. “No, no. You’re fine, what’s up?”
“I just wanted to know if you wanted to, uh, you know, have breakfast with me? And maybe spend the day together? You know have to. You could be busy. Shit, I should’ve asked that first. Are you busy? You probably are…”
You listened as she rambled, the corner of your lips twitching up.
“I’d love to have breakfast with you.” That made Alessia stop her rambling, her side of the call going silent for a moment.
“Really?” she asks, not quite believing you.
“Of course. How could I say no?”
“Okay, cool. Cool. I’ll, uh, see you soon then.”
“You will.”
Hanging up, you go back to staring at the ceiling, trying to find motivation to get out of bed.
You ended up spending the whole day with Alessia, wasting the hours away. You were still wary around her, not wanting to get attached. Despite being so guarded, Alessia was determined to get some information out of you.
You’ve now found yourself walking alongside her, somehow making it to the beach.
“You’re like a locked book,” Alessia said one day as they walked along the pier.
“Maybe I like it that way,” you replied.
Alessia frowned. “What are you so afraid of?”
You stopped walking and turned to face her, her expression unreadable. “It’s not fear, Alessia. It’s reality. Some people aren’t meant to stick around.”
Alessia’s heart clenched at the finality in your voice. She wanted to push further, to break down the walls you had so carefully built, but she could sense that you weren’t ready.
“Are you okay?” Alessia asked, concern threading her voice.
You gave her a small smile, but it didn’t reach your eyes. “I’m fine. Just thinking.”
“About what?”
You hesitated, taking a deep breath, then said, “If you could start over, knowing everything you know now, would you do anything differently?”
Alessia blinked, caught off guard by the question. “I don’t know. I guess I’d try to hold on to the things that matter more. The people who matter.”
You nodded, expression unreadable. “That’s a good answer.” Before Alessia could reply, “Let’s head back,” you say, walking ahead of her.
The walk back to Alessia’s was silent. Stopping in front of her door, you stare at her, Alessia oblivious to the way you are staring at her as she fumbles with her keys. Finally getting the key through the lock and twisting, you move your gaze when you notice hers moving toward you.
“Have a good night Alessia.”
“You don’t want to come in?” Her eyebrows furrowed, looking disappointed.
“Not tonight,” you give you a small smile. “Sleep well.”
Dragging a giant cooler to your room, you were once again being trailed by the man from the front desk.
“Look, I don’t know what kind of shady stuff you got going on, but what are you bringing now?”
Opening the door, you step inside, dropping the cooler on the floor.
“Goodnight Steve.” You shut the door in his face.
“It’s Dave.”
You carry the cooler to the bathroom, opening it up, and you grab a bag, holding it up in front of you. You dump the contents out into the tank you brought in the night before, the water inside sloshing gently before settling. The room is quiet — too quiet — except for the soft hum of the filter. The glow from the tank casts a faint blue light, flickering against the walls, reflecting in your tired eyes.
You stand there for a moment, just watching.
The jellyfish drifts through the water, its translucent body pulsing in slow, rhythmic movements. Weightless. Effortless. It doesn’t fight the current; it simply exists. Something is mesmerizing about it, almost peaceful.
You rest your hand on the glass, fingers resting lightly. Cold. Smooth. Unforgiving.
You take a breath, steady, measured. You’ve planned every step, considered every detail. And yet, standing here, watching this delicate creature move with such quiet grace, a strange feeling tugs at you—something you can’t quite name.
But it doesn’t matter.
You pull your hand away from the glass.
The jellyfish continues to drift, untouched by the weight pressing down on your chest.
It doesn’t know what it’s here for.
But you do.
“The first time I ever saw a box jellyfish, I was twelve. My father took us to the aquarium. I never forgot what he said, that it was the ‘most deadly creature on Earth.’ To me it was just… the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen.”
You called your friend over, wanting to discuss a few things. You’re sat at the desk, filling up some paperwork as he stood watching the tank.
“I talked to your doctor the other day, send over your files in the morning.”
“Is this everything?” you ask, not looking up from the papers. “Any questions?”
“Same one.”
“Same answer then.”
“You know, I was thinking last night, when we were fourteen and we made that pact.” You look over at him briefly. “Remember on the beach, in front of your grandparent’s house, we, uh, we agreed that we would never, never date each other’s girl. And I remember the day you told me that you liked Stacy Miller, that you were gonna ask her out and I said, ‘Woah! Hey, man, you can’t! Her and I already did it.’” You’ve put your pen down, paying all your attention to him. “But we didn’t. I wanted to, but she… liked you more than she liked me and — so I lied to you because I was so jealous and I’m carrying around this- this lie in my heart for the last twenty—”
“Stop it,” you throw a book at him. He stares at you. “Stop it. Stay focused,” you tap on the side of your head forcefully. “Do what you promised me.”
“What, you think I’m…”
“Do what you promised me.”
“You think I’m gonna let you down now.” He stands up, pointing a finger at you, accusingly. “I’ve known you my whole DAMN LIFE! Okay.” He taps on the papers you’re signing, “This, this! This is not something you do every day. Okay. This, this…” he waves his hands towards you, “is not easy for me. I’ll make sure everything goes to plan,” he wipes the tear that fell from his eye, shaking his head in disbelief. “Don’t worry.”
“Thank you.” You can’t bring yourself to look at him as he cries, not wanting to cry yourself. “Thank you.”
You’ve managed to avoid Alessia for three days after that night at the beach. You didn’t do much, spent most of it in your room.
Sat on a chair you placed in front of the tank, you watched them float through the water. They somehow give you peace with how they move, almost innocently, something you’re quite sure you don’t have anymore. The sound of your phone ringing brings you out of your thoughts. Hesitantly rising from your seat, you trudge to where your phone is, answering and holding it up to your ear.
“Hello?”
You hear someone take a deep breath. “Y/N?” The person sighs, “Hi. I’m sorry I called so late.”
“Alessia? Um, did-are you okay?”
“Uh, I was- I was having trouble breathing after going for a walk. And I fainted,” your eyebrows shot up in concern, “an ambulance had to come and take me to the hospital.” She takes a couple of breaths. “I’m so sorry. I don’t know why I called you and I just-I wanted to — Y/N? You still there?”
You lock the door, walking out of the motel. “Yes.”
“Do you ever think about dying, Y/N?”
“Every now and again.” You answer, walking on the sidewalk.
“My face is, um, blue-ish. It’s not exactly a good sign.”
“You should try to rest. Just-why don't you try and get some sleep?”
“I like talking to you.”
“I like talking to you too.”
“Would you tell me a story?” You look around, contemplating whether you should. “Please.”
“Okay, um, alright. Once upon a time, there was a, uh, little girl named—”
“—Lucky me. I just got it on reserve like that, okay.” You hear the rustling of sheets through the phone. “Let me guess, her name is Y/N?”
You chuckle. “No, actually, this little girl’s name is Jane.”
“I like the name Jane. Go on.”
“Jane’s little sister was always pestering Jane to make paper airplanes ‘cause she’s, you know, good at it,” you shrug. “But Jane had much bigger dreams than making paper airplanes.”
“‘Kay. Then what happened?”
“Then one day Jane went out to the backyard, put leaves and taped branches to her arms and started climbing the big ol’ tree. Her little sister said ‘Jane! You can’t fly!’ She said, ‘Yeah? You just watch!’” You couldn’t see, but Alessia had a smile on her face. “Got all the way to the top, and jumped.”
Alessia’s eyebrows furrowed. “How… tall was this tree?”
“Um, it was pretty tall. She broke her arm.”
“Oh-oh, my god! This is a horrible story.”
“Well, no, no. It gets better. Um, from that experience, Jane realized that she wanted to fly. So she dedicated her life to making spaceships.” The sounds of the city can be heard in the background, but you just keep walking and talking.
“I thought you said this was a good story?”
“Oh, well, yeah that is,” you stutter, not expecting to be called out. “Until the-the dragon showed up.”
“Oh, okay. I see. Now it’s getting better. I like dragons, especially dragons in space.” You can hear her voice fading.
“Yeah, these were fire-breathing, space dragons with really bad attitudes.”
“I see.”
“I have an idea. Why don’t you try to fall asleep and when you do, I’ll just hang up.” You suggest.
“M’kay. Y/N?”
“Yes?”
“Thank you for listening. And for talking.”
You don’t say anything for a while. “Try to fall asleep.”
“Goodnight, Y/N.”
“Goodnight, Alessia.” Phone still pressed up to your ear, you walk through the automatic doors. “Alessia?” Not getting a response, you keep walking until you reach the room. “Alessia?” you ask again. Looking through the window, you see her, lying on her side on the hospital bed, asleep.
You hang up the phone and just watch her for a moment. She looks peaceful.
Stepping inside her room, you stand by her bedside, eyes scanning over her face, almost like you were trying to memorize them. You drag a chair to where you stood, sitting in it, never taking your eyes off of her.
The next morning, Alessia’s eyes flutter open. The sunlight peaking through the window blinds shines in her face. Pushing herself to sit up, she looks around the room, a bit startled, she sees a figure by her side, sitting — slouching — on a chair.
“Y/N,” she said softly, hoping to wake you up, but with no luck. She tries again a bit louder, that doing the trick.
You jolt awake, the loud call of your name pulling you out of restless sleep. Your neck protests, stiff from hours spent slumped in the uncomfortable hospital chair, and for a moment, you’re disoriented— caught between your dreams to the blinding fluorescent lights overhead.
You hear your name again, a bit weak but certain.
Your eyes snap to the bed next to you.
She’s awake.
You stand abruptly, moving closer to her bedside.
“You’re awake,” You whisper as if saying it aloud would make it not real.
“Yeah and you drool in your sleep,” you bring your hand up to wipe at the corner of your lips. Seeing a teasing smile on Alessia’s face makes a chuckle come out of you.
“You’re an ass.”
“Hey!” She reaches out to swat at you. “Don’t call the sick names.”
“Oh, I apologize, my queen,” you give her a mock bow.
Shortly after your banter, the door opens, and a doctor walks into the room.
“Good morning!” the doctor was overly cheery in your opinion. “How are you feeling Alessia?”
“I’m as good as I can be.”
“Well, I’ve got some news. As we’ve briefly talked about last night, your heart isn’t getting better,” your jaw tightens. “That being said, UNOS has you at the top of their list.”
Alessia froze, not believing the words coming out of the doctor’s mouth. “What?” she asked in disbelief.
“The first heart available is yours.” She was emotional, understandably so. She hands something to Alessia. “This is a pager. When a heart becomes available, this will go off and you take yourself back here.” The doctor decides to give her some space to process everything, you following her out the door.
“How long does it usually take?” you ask once the door clicks shut. “How long does it take for a heart to become available?”
“It honestly is hard to say because it just depends. We can’t just take a heart from anyone.”
“How long do you think she has until her heart completely shuts down?”
“That’s also hard to say, but I’d give it a couple of weeks.” She sees the look of defeat on your face, placing a hand on your shoulder. “Just have some faith.” You nod, thanking her, and step back into the room.
Alessia was looking into the distance still trying to process the doctor’s words. You place yourself next to the bed, not saying a word, offering some silent support. She gently grabs your hand, startling you from the contact, giving it a light squeeze. You squeeze her hand back, communicating without words. She pulls you closer, resting her forehead to the back of your hand, wanting to feel closer to you.
You walk through the lobby of your motel. The manager trailing you again, asking why you’ve now got a bag full of small fish. You tune him out like always, closing the door on his face.
Popping the top of the tank off, you rip open the bag, pouring the contents in. You sit on your bed, watching the fish swim around. The fish run into the tentacles, dying almost instantly. You don’t flinch, just curious about the fee—
The next morning, you’re picking Alessia up to go home, her having to stay another night for observation. The same doctor from yesterday escorted you both out, pushing the wheelchair Alessia was on. She gets in the passenger seat, you reach in the put her seatbelt on for her.
The drive to Alessia’s house was silent, but not uncomfortable. As you pull in front of her house, she breaks the silence.
“Have you- have you ever been in love?”
You swear your heart stopped. “Alessia, please,” you say, almost pleading.
“You have!” her tone teasing. You didn’t answer. “Yes, you have. C’mon, you can tell me.”
“Um, yes. But it ended.”
“What happened?”
“Stop it.”
“No, tell me.”
“Stop it!” your voice raised. “Get inside. You need to get some rest. Maybe sleep.”
She hastily takes her seatbelt off, practically jumping out of the car.
“Alessia, hold on.”
“Just leave.”
“Alessia!” You get out too, chasing after her.
You’re both standing in front of her door staring at each other.
“Thank you for everything.”
You go back in your car, hands grasping at the wheel, and then you scream. You scream all your anger, all your pent-up feelings.
A few hours later, Alessia was making lunch when she sees movement outside of her kitchen window. There you were, pulling on weeds.
She goes up to you, questioning what you are doing.
“Is this your way of saying sorry?”
“No, I just, uh, saw these were getting overgrown, so decided to take a day off.”
She watches you work for a while longer before stopping you.
“Come on, I want to show you something,” she says, a hint of longing in her voice.
She leads you into the house to a room at the end of the hall. She unlocks the door, one you hadn’t really noticed before. When she pushes it open, you’re met with a room that isn’t like any other in the entire house. It’s not grand or overly decorated — if anything, it feels a bit hidden, almost like a personal secret she doesn’t show just anyone.
Inside, the walls are lined with framed jerseys, newspaper clippings, and photos capturing moments from her time at university. A glass cabinet holds an array of trophies and medals, each carefully placed yet slightly tucked away as if she doesn’t like to make too much of a fuss about them.
You step closer, eyes scanning the awards. There are championship medals and even a few personal accolades from her standout performances. One shelf holds a pair of worn-out boots, laces frayed, their soles bearing the marks of countless games.
“These were from my first goal in uni,” she explains, stepping around you and picking them up with a nostalgic smile. “I couldn’t bring myself to throw them out.”
You watch as she moves through the room, her fingers grazing over the items, each one holding a story she remembers like it was yesterday. There’s a quiet pride in her voice—not boastful, just appreciative of the journey she’s been on.
“You don’t show this room to everyone, do you?” you ask softly.
She chuckles, shaking her head. “Not really. I don’t like to dwell too much on the past, but… sometimes it’s nice to remember where it all started.”
You take another look around, imagining the countless hours of training, the sacrifices, the triumphs. Seeing it all in one place, tucked away in this private corner of her home, makes you appreciate her journey even more.
As you turn back to her, she’s already watching you, a curious look in her blue eyes. “So, what do you think?”
You smile. “I think you are incredible. And I think you should be really proud.”
She exhales, almost as if she needed to hear that. You see a pink hue forming on her cheeks but don’t pay them any mind.
“Look,” she pauses, trying to find the right words. “I don’t really know anything about you or where you came from, but you keep showing up. And I’m glad.”
“Okay.” you nod, looking at her.
Then, with a playful nudge, she says, “Come on, you hungry? I’ve got lunch ready.”
You pause by the door, looking around for a while longer. Thoughts of what more she could’ve achieved if it weren’t for her heart filled your mind. It shouldn’t have ended like this. You walk out, closing the door behind you.
It’s been a week since then. You and Alessia grew a lot closer, but the memories of the accident become more frequent when you sleep. Or at least when you do get to sleep. You knew your time was ticking.
You’re limping to your room, bracing yourself against the wall.
“What the hell happened to you?” The manager asks as you walk past, but you ignore him. “How much longer are you gonna stay in my hotel?”
“Motel,” you correct him.
“How much longer?”
“Actually, I was planning on dying here,” you say, no amusement in her voice.
“Well, you need to pay in advance.” You block him out, shutting your room door.
You wake up to the sound of your phone ringing. You search under the piles of paper scattered on the bed for it. You answer once you find it, holding it up to your ear.
“Hello.”
“Hey, it’s Alessia. Are you- are you sleeping?”
“Yeah, uh, no. I’m, um, how are you?”
“I’m good. Was wondering if you were busy later? Come by to say ‘hi’ say around seven?”
“Busy? Uh—”
“Look, I totally get if you don’t want to hang out with a dying girl,” she gets out.
“No, no. I- I can come at seven.”
“Okay.”
“Okay.”
“Bye,” she whispers, a smile forming on her lips.
At seven on the dot, you’re at her front door. You knock, the door opening shortly after.
“Hey! Come in.” She shuffles away towards the kitchen. “Do you mind if we eat outside?” she asks over.
“Eating?” you ask, not expecting it.
“Yeah, you didn’t eat yet did you?” you can hear in her tone that she was worried you did.
“No, um, um. No.”
“Well, it was a surprise, but you’re on time.” She’s getting a dish out of the oven, placing it on top of the stove. “Um, I haven’t cooked anybody food in a while, so I hope you like it. Don’t lie to me.” She lets out a nervous giggle. She then grabs a present, wrapped neatly with a bow on top, holding it out to you. “This is for you.”
“Dinner’s ready and you’re not,” she walks away, holding the dish, “so hurry up. Chop chop.”
You go into her bedroom, stopping by the wall to look at all the pictures that lined it. Seeing Alessia setting a table outside, you open up the present, seeing a shirt. You quickly get dressed, walking out to the backyard. She’s sitting at the table as you stand in the doorway, gesturing towards the shirt you changed into.
“You look great,” she says, giving you a wide smile.
“Yeah, uh,” you look down at yourself, “it’s pink.”
“It’s salmon,” she says like it’s obvious. She waves her hand for you to come. You walk up to stand next to the table. Taking your time, you take it all in.
“You’re so nice.”
“So are you.” You take a seat, a bit uncomfortable with how intimate it all looks; candles, wine. “Everything is vegetarian. Um, I hope you like eggplant parmesan.”
You fidget in your seat, not really knowing what to do. “I, uh, haven’t treated myself very well in the past few years.”
Alessia nods in acknowledgment. “Start now.” You grab your silverware, “Bon appétit.” You take a bite, pausing at the flavors. “What do you think?”
You look towards her with sincerity, “it’s delicious.”
“I’m glad you like it.”
The conversation started flowing easier after a bit. The awkwardness going away. Soft music fills the air around them. The song changes and Alessia perks up. She gets up towards the speaker, turning the volume up. She starts swaying to the music, getting lost in the melody. You sit back and just watch her. You couldn’t look away, mesmerized by how she moved, how happy she looked.
She then turns to you, a teasing smile on her face, holding her hand out to you.
“Oh, no. I can’t— I don’t dance.”
“Come on. Let loose.” She grabs your hand in hers, pulling you up and you know you didn’t have a choice. She pulls you close, placing one of your hovering hands in hers, the other on her side. The music changes to a slower song. You start swaying, trying not to be stiff. Her head rests against your chest. You hope she couldn’t feel the way your heartbeat starts to speed up — she does but doesn’t say anything. She pulls her head away after a few moments.
The air between you crackles, thick with something unspoken but impossible to ignore. You’re standing too close, your breaths mingling in the charged silence. Their eyes flick to your lips, just for a second, and your pulse stutters.
A tear slips down your cheek before you can stop it. You turn your head slightly, hoping she won’t see, but of course, she does. Her fingers, gentle and unsure, brush against your jaw, tilting your face back toward her.
“Hey,” she murmurs, searching your eyes. Her concern only makes the ache in your chest tighten.
You don’t know why this moment — why she — breaks you open like this. Maybe it’s the way she’s looking at you like you’re something fragile but worth holding. Maybe it’s the way she’s here, close enough to touch, even when everything in you tells you to pull away.
But you don’t pull away. You do the opposite.
With a shaky breath, you reach for her, grabbing the back of her neck. Her lips parted slightly in surprise as you closed the distance, pressing your mouth to hers. It starts slow, tentative, but the second she kisses you back, something in you snaps.
You pour everything into it—every unsaid word, every suppressed feeling, every ache that’s been sitting heavy in your chest. She meets you with the same urgency, her hands threading through your hair, pulling you closer. The heat between you builds, wiping away everything else — the pain, the doubt.
You feel her hands slipping beneath your shirt, fingertips skimming your skin, sending shivers down your spine. You exhale against her lips, a soft, needy sound escaping before you can stop it.
Then you’re moving, tangled together, finding the bed without ever breaking apart. Clothes fall away, but it’s more than just hunger now. It’s desperation, longing, a need to feel — to be seen, to be held, to be hers.
For the first time in a long time, you don’t feel like you’re falling apart. You feel free.
Legs tangled under the sheets, you both hold each other close, the rain can be heard pouring just outside.
“Do you wanna play a game?” she asks, voice soft, not wanting to break the calm atmosphere.
“What game?” your fingers trace the features of her face.
“What if game.”
“The what if game.”
“Mhm.” Her fingers caress your face. “What if… my pager goes off… and it’s a heart and it works and my body doesn’t reject it. And what if I have time.”
You’ve become a bit speechless, but after a few beats, it was your turn.
“What if… we have children? What if we got married?” You can see tears forming in her eyes, threatening to fall. She kisses your shoulder, trying to hold back a sob. The tears finally fall and you hold her close. “I love you,” you mumble. She pulls away from your neck, hand grabbing your face to pull you in. “I love you,” you say it stronger. She kisses you.
She falls asleep in the comfort of your arms. You lay on your side, head propped up on your hand as you watch her, watch how peaceful she looked.
You carefully slip out from under her, making sure to not wake her up. Quietly getting dressed, you look at her once more. Everything you’ve bottled up with her slowly hitting you one by one. Leaning down, you give her forehead a gentle kiss, before slipping out.
You run.
The rain pours down, drenching your clothes, but you don’t care. Your breath is ragged, your footsteps heavy, your body pushing forward as if fueled with determination alone. Your soaked shirt clings to your chest, water splashing with each step.
You push the heavy hospital door open, breathing heavily, steps filled with a purpose.
“Alright,” you reach the nurse’s stations “Is Doctor Briar on- on duty tonight?” you ask, out of breath.
“She’s… doing her rounds,” the nurse looks at you in concern.
“Can you tell her it’s Y/N Y/LN? It’s very important.”
“I’ll, uh, page her.” The nurse picks up the phone, paging the doctor, eyes not straying away from you.
You were close to hysterics, thinking that you didn’t have enough time. You turn around, find a chair, and take a seat, still breathing heavily. Hearing a door open, you turn your head to the right, seeing the doctor walking towards you. Getting up, you meet her halfway.
“Hey.”
“Is it Alessia?” she asks, concern in her voice.
“Uh, no. No. I’m sorry. Is there- sorry.” You try to find the right words. “Do you have any more- any optimism about Ales- Alessia that you did the other day?”
“When- when you’re looking for donors with a rare blood type,” you nod, listening intently. Eyes bloodshot. “the odds go way down.”
“To what? They go down. What’s- give me a percentage.” The doctor’s reluctance to answer makes you raise your voice. “Give me a number.”
“Three, five percent.” You put your hand up, not wanting to hear anything else. “I’m sorry. I- I wish the numbers were higher.”
“Thank you.” you walk past her. “Thank you, thank you,” you’re mumbling, walking out of the hospital.
The rain pours heavily on you, but you don’t think about it. Pulling your phone out from your pocket, you quickly dial a number.
“Hey,” you whisper once the person picks up. “It’s time. I love you,” your voice breaks. You hang up, not giving him a chance to reply.
Stepping into your room, you pause by the door.
You stand in the dim motel bathroom, the weight of your decision pressing against your chest like an iron vice. The letters were written, and your affairs are in order. You have spent almost a year preparing for this moment.
You twist the bathtub knob, water rushing in as you slit open the bag of ice. The ice tumbles into the tub, the chill spreading as you check the time on your watch, carefully placed on the edge. Hurriedly, you jot down a note and set it on the floor beside the tub.
The hotel phone feels cold in your hand, dialing the dreaded number.
“999 emergency.”
You’re breathing hard, the weight of everything heavy on your shoulders.
“I need an ambulance,” you run your hand down your face.
“I have you at 9216 Street.”
“That’s room number two.”
“What’s the emergency?”
“There’s been a suicide,” you sigh.
“Who’s the victim?”
“I am.”
“You are really gonna need to stop looking at that thing,” you let out a laugh, looking over to the person in the passenger seat, driving the both of you to somewhere special.
“Why? Is it gonna crack?” The woman is holding her hand out in front of her, admiring the ring that sits on her finger.
“Oh no. I paid extra for the non-cracking kind.”
“Yeah, I bet you did.”
A notification from your phone pulls your attention from her. Taking it out of your pocket, you read the text, occasionally looking back at the road.
“Honey, why don’t you just turn that off?”
“Yeah, hold on. Sorry, no more. No more work, I’m almost done, almost done.”
“Y/N!”
You don’t expect it, hearing tires screeching, horns blaring, her screaming. You swerve, narrowly missing the car, but there is another one. It hits head-on to your passenger side.
You’re flipping.
Flipping.
Flipping.
Then everything stops.
Bracing yourself against the wall, you step into the water, fully clothed. The water, ice cold, makes your breathing unsteady. Now sitting, you grab the edge of the tub, hands turning white with how hard you’re gripping.
Your mind drifts back to Alessia, how beautiful she looked lying next to you in bed. How warm her hand felt as she rested it on the side of your face.
You grab the bucket filled with the jellyfish that was placed on the foot of the tub, quickly dumping them in the water before you have second thoughts.
Then you feel it.
A searing pain explodes across your body as the tentacles wrap around your arm, your chest. It is fire and ice all at once, electricity surging through your veins. Your muscles seize, your breath catches, but you don’t fight it. You let it take you.
You bite your tongue, holding a scream in. You grab the shower curtain, pulling so hard that you rip it off. The scream you try to hold in can’t be contained.
You’re running.
You don’t know where to, but once you’ve pulled yourself out of the car, you run, climbing up the steep hill you fell into.
You clutch onto the curtain, the pain becoming unbearable, hyperventilating.
You see the aftermath of the crash, freezing in disbelief.
Hugging the side of the tub, you let out another scream.
You’re running, seeing something in the distance. A flash of red.
Red.
The color of her dress.
Fully submerged in the water now, your energy draining.
You stop next to a body, crouching down with your hands out. Legs giving out, you slowly crawl up to her.
Everything feels numb. The pain doesn’t feel painful anymore.
“No. No no no.” Your voice cracks, hands hovering, afraid to touch her. “Baby, wake up.”
Your fingers brush her cheek — still warm. A flicker of hope flares in your chest. You press your palm to her face, stroking the cheek that you’ve kissed a thousand times. “Come on, look at me. Open your eyes.”
But she doesn’t.
A strangled sob tears from your throat as you gather her into your arms, cradling her against yourself, rocking back and forth. Leaning down, you press your forehead against hers, body shaking with grief, mind clinging to denial, as if you hold her tight enough, love her hard enough, that she’ll take a breath, that her eyes would open and everything would be alright.
But she doesn’t.
A sigh of relief escapes you.
Your vision blurs. The walls of the motel bathroom fade. The sound of your own heartbeat roars in your ears then softens, then slows. The pain becomes distant, then almost peaceful.
Then — nothing.
The sound of the heart monitor fills the room. Doctors and nurses surround the bed, doing everything they can.
But they couldn’t.
Beeps wake Alessia from her deep sleep. Her eyes shot open, narrowing on the pager that sat on her bedside table. She’s in disbelief, grabbing the pager making sure she wasn’t dreaming. She looks around, trying to ground herself.
“Y/N?” she sits up, excitement in her voice.
Next thing she knows, she’s laid in a hospital bed being rolled into the operating room.
“Hi. How are you doing?” The doctor greets Alessia, ensuring her that this is real. She doesn’t say anything, still in a state of shock.
Your friend breaks down in his office, not wanting to believe his best friend is gone.
Alessia’s new heart beats strongly in her chest, still unknowing of where it came from.
Your brother sat on a chair in your motel room, finding your newspaper clippings pinned on the wall, all about the accident. He never understood why you shut down, why you distanced yourself.
Now he does.
He held a stack of envelopes, each with a different name, the same names that he found in a list in your notebook.
“About a year after the accident, I got sick. I got, uh, lung cancer. I needed a double lobe transplant. Y/N could only give me one of course.” Your brother, Sam, sat at the table, Alessia sitting across from him. “That must’ve planted the seed cause six months later she, uh, donated the right part of her liver to this woman.” He gives her a picture, you stood next to a woman in a hospital bed, smiling widely. “Her name is Holly.” She brushes her thumb over your face, tears now streaming down her face.
Once Sam had left, she opens an envelope, pulling the paper out.
My Dearest Alessia,
By the time you read this, I will be gone. I wish I could have had more time, more moments, more laughter, more mornings waking up to the sound of your breathing. But time isn’t something I deserve anymore.
I have carried the weight of my past, every mistake, every regret, and every life I have shattered with me. No matter how much I have tried to let go of my past, that night still haunts me. You once told me that love has the power to heal, but Alessia, some wounds run too deep. Some burdens cannot be lifted. Not even by the hands of someone as beautiful as you.
I have spent my days trying to make up for the lives I took, giving away pieces of myself in the hope that it would bring back the ones I lost. And now, I am giving you the last piece I have left. Not because I feel I owe it, but because you deserve life. A full one. A long one. A life without fear, without hesitation, without the pain that has held you captive for too long.
I have seen the way you look at the stars as if you are searching for something, some hope, some sign that things will be okay. I hope that after tonight, you will look up and know that you were loved. That you changed me. That you gave me something I never thought I’d have again. Peace.
Please live, Alessia. Live enough for the both of us. And if you ever feel the darkness creeping in, remember me not in sadness, but in love. In every heartbeat. In every breath.
Forever yours,
Y/N
She clutches the letter to her chest, legs giving out from under her.
Later that night, Alessia lays in the bathtub, feeling numb as the water surrounds her. Slowly, she sinks under the water, stopping for a moment once her ears are under just to hear it.
Lub-dub.
Lub-dub.
Lub-dub.
She places her hand over her heart to feel the beats momentarily before fully sinking under.
Alessia’s hands trembled as she stepped into the small music shop. The warm notes of the piano fill the air. She scanned the room, her breath caught between anticipation and fear.
Then she saw him.
A man sat in the corner, watching the pianist play their songs. His expression was calm, and peaceful, as if everything was right with the world.
Her heart pounded as she stepped closer. He turned to her, sensing her presence.
“Hi,” she managed, her voice barely above a whisper.
Ezra smiled. “Hi.” His head tilted slightly as if reading her silence. “Can I help you with something?”
She opened her mouth to speak but the words failed her. Instead, her gaze locked onto his eyes—warm, deep brown, achingly familiar.
Your eyes.
Her breath hitched. A sharp, unrelenting ache surged through her chest. It was as if he was standing in front of her, looking at her, seeing her.
She tried to hold it together, but the tears came fast, unbidden. A sob escaped her throat before she could stop it. She covered her mouth, shaking, overwhelmed by grief and love crashing into her all at once.
Ezra frowned, concern washing over his face. “Are you okay?”
Alessia forced a nod, wiping her cheeks. “I just—” she swallowed hard. “You have beautiful eyes.”
A small, knowing smile flickered across Ezra’s lips, as if he understood more than she had said. “Thank you.”
Her chest tightened. She could barely breathe, but she could feel you, right there in front of her. And for the first time since you were gone, she wasn’t sure if she wanted to run from the pain or hold onto it forever.
She was back.
The roar of the crowd was deafening as Alessia stood on the edge of the penalty box, her heart pounding — not from fear, not from exhaustion, but from the pure, electrifying thrill of the game. The England shirt clung to her, damp with sweat and the weight of everything she had been through settled in her chest. But it wasn’t heavy. It was powerful.
The ball came to her feet—a perfect pass, spinning toward her as if fate itself had lined it up. For a split second, everything else disappeared. The surgeries, the hospital beds, the whispers about whether she’d ever play again. The months of grueling rehab, the moments of doubt.
None of it mattered now.
With one touch, she controlled the ball, took a deep breath, and struck it cleanly. Time slowed as it soared through the air, past outstretched hands, and into the back of the net.
Goal.
The stadium erupted. Her teammates swarmed her, wrapping her in tight embraces, their voices became a blur against the roaring of thousands. But Alessia barely heard them. She staggered backward, hands trembling, sinking to her knees as the weight of everything came crashing down.
She choked back a sob, looking up at the sky, wishing — hoping — that somewhere, wherever you may be, that you could see her now. Pressing a hand over her heart, she felt it beat strongly.
Thank you.
Her teammates pulled her up, holding her as she sobbed. As the final whistle blew, a new wave of emotion hit her. She closed her eyes, tilting her head up to the sky once more. She swore she could hear your voice.
“I am so proud of you.”

Summary: Your moms found out about your relationship with Kate and are not happy with it. They want to keep you safe, unintentionally hurting you while doing that.
Notes: Sorry for my long absence. Here's a new one shot for you. I think it's the longest work I've ever written so far. Enjoy reading this piece.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You knew you were in trouble. It was obvious. Especially after they broke into the house and you saw a very angry ex-assassin and a very pissed witch in the living room. But, let’s start from the beginning ‘cause what a story it is.
8 hours earlier
“No, there is no way.” your mom said firmly, standing in the kitchen with her hands on her hips. You stood up from your chair and walked closer to her.
“Why? You can’t just do that.” you fighted back. You couldn’t believe this is happening and centrally won’t let it become the truth. You love your moms and you know they always try to do what’s best for you, but this time they were in the wrong.
“I can and I just did. You can’t see Kate anymore.” Nat said with a stern look, tightening her jaw. You turned from her to your other mom. “Mama, won’t you say anything?” you asked, a pleading look on your face.
Wanda, who was standing and listening to the conversation this whole time, walked closer to her wife. “Y/N, sweety, we’re just looking out for you.” she answered gently. You felt absolutely helpless, hurt and angry.
“You can’t make this decision for me. It’s my life and my relationship.” you spoked, hoping that they will change their minds.
“You are our daughter and still a child. It is as we say.” Nat added, not backing up. It’s hard to fight an assassin, even if it is not a physical fight. “Listen, we don’t want to be the bad guys here or make your life miserable. It’s just..” Nat signed. “Kate is an Avenger. This job is very dangerous and being with her can put you in life threatening danger. It’s already risky considering that you are our daughter.“
“I’m not a child anymore, I’m 21 years old. Nothing bad will happen to me. Please, I love her. Y-you can’t do that.” your eyes started to fill up with tears, your voice’s slowly breaking.
“I’m sorry, but that’s final.” Hearing that, you rushed to your room, locking yourself in it. You threw yourself on your bed and started crying.
Everything was good before. Your moms didn’t know about your relationship. You successfully kept it from them for a little over a year, always saying that you were going out with some friends. But of course, they had to walk in on you and Kate making out in the training room when you were visiting the Avengers in the compound, because they had some stuff to take care of. Nat immediately took you to the car. The drive home was silent, but when you got inside, they started saying that you needed to end things with Kate for “your own good”.
You picked up your phone, opened contacts and dialed the phone number. It was three rings after that the person answered. “Hi, Y/N.” said the angelic voice on the other side. It was all it took you to utter a sob, breaking down more from just hearing her. “Y/N? What’s wrong? Does it have something to do with your moms finding out about us?” Kate asked with a concerned tone. You didn’t want to tell her about your fight because it would make it true and you couldn’t let that happen. However, Kate deserves to know. Maybe you can come up with a solution and everything will be great again. At least you hoped so.
“Kate-” you sobbed. “They want me to break up with you.” you cried out. Silence enveloped the room. You didn’t know if it was because she hung up or she was shocked. Pulling the phone from your ear, you looked at the screen; okay, she’s still there. “Kate? Please, say something.”
After a few seconds, you heard her say, you think she’s also crying. “I don’t know what to say.” she cleared her throat and added. “There’s nothing I can do? Maybe they can still change their mind?”
“I don’t think so.” You said. The truth is, if there was anything that would change this, you would already do it. Sad reality hit you. Your moms don’t want you to be with Kate. Then you wondered if it was even important to you. I mean, of course, you want them to approve of your relationship, but they don’t. They just don’t understand that she’s the love of your life. Your whole heart. Your everything. At that moment, you made up your mind. “You know what? I don’t care what they say; I want to be with you. I love you, Kate. ” you said, determined, wiping the tears from your cheeks with the back of your hand. Your moms are not gonna come in between your love life. You won’t let them.
“I love you too and I want to be with you for the rest of my life. Are you sure, though? I mean, they are your moms. I don’t want your relationship with them to be destroyed because of me.” Kate said, her voice slowly quieting. You can’t help but feel your heart grow bigger with love for her if it is still even possible. She cares about you so much, you couldn’t be more sure about your decision.
“Yes, I want to be with you forever, Katie.” you said truthfully. “I can’t imagine my life without you.”
“I can’t imagine my life without you too. What are we gonna do about your moms?” she asked.
“I don’t know, yet.” you said. You didn’t like to lie to your moms, but in this case, you feel like you have to. “Maybe we can meet up today? I can say that I need to go for a walk to clear my mind or something. You can park your car a few streets away.” you said hopefully. “Sure, be there in an hour.” With that, you ended the call.
Kate will be here in an hour, so you intend to spend this time on getting ready. You had to wear something not too fancy for a walk but not too ugly for a hangout with your girlfriend. ‘Girlfriend’, after all this time you’ve been together, you still can’t believe you get to call her that. It makes your heart flutter every time.
After some time of thinking about what to wear and getting mentally ready to lie to your moms, you were ready to leave. Walking down the stairs, you opt to look upset, but without it looking weird. You know it is hard to lie to a witch and an ex-assassin.
You slowly made your way to put on some shoes when someone called from behind. “And where are you going, young lady?” You turned to see Nat with her arms crossed. “I hope it isn’t the girl I clearly said is dangerous for you to hang out with.” She said sternly.
That got your blood boiling. “If you want to know, I’m going for a walk to clear my head, because my mother said I can’t be with the love of my life!” You shouted, tears started to well up again. Nat stood a little shocked at the outburst but quickly recovered. “Quit the tone; you know I do this for your safety. I just want to protect you.” She said the last part a little softer.
“Whatever.” You said and walked out of the house, shutting the door.
You turned left and started going down the street; hopefully Kate is already there. As you walk, you make yourself slightly more presentable, fixing the hair and wiping the tears that once again started to flow because of the encounter with your mom. Turning left, you see Kate’s car parked on the side of the road. Smiling, you increased your speed and got into the car.
“Hi-” Kate didn’t manage to greet you because you immediately pulled her by her shirt into a long, passionate kiss. Your fist, full of the fabric, pulled Kate closer. Her hands flew to grip the back of your neck. Both missed the physical contact. Your lips, made to fit like two pieces, were moving against each other, stealing breath. Your lungs started to feel like they were on fire, but that didn't stop you from giving yourself to Kate in that kiss.
After a few minutes, you pull away from the kiss but still keep close to Kate. Your hand full of her shirt slightly loosens, yet the grip is still there. “Sorry, I just really missed you.” You said, looking down flustered. Finally, your eyes moved up, looking deeply into hers. “Hi.” you added after a moment of silence.
Kate smiled at you. “Hi.” She replied, giggling breathlessly. “I missed you too. So much.”
It’s so stupid how her smile and the little glint in her eyes can make you all giggly and weak in knees. You know you loved her to the moon and back, you can’t give up on your relationship just because your moms tell you to, not when everything in you is screaming that Kate is the endgame, your endgame.
“Hey, hey, hey. What's wrong?” you felt Kate's hands on your face, thumbs wiping your cheeks. You didn't realize that you were crying. Every emotion's built up in you, and right when you saw her, you just had to let it all go. “It's just, I don't want to be away from you. I love you so much and I'm sick of this sneaking out, or my moms telling me that I can’t be with you.” you sniffled, looking into her eyes. “God, you are everything I want. I want to be with you forever. When I think about my future, I see you and me, and I don’t care what our lives will look like as long as we are together; that's everything I want.” You really poured your heart out there. It’s not typical for you to be this vulnerable in front of Kate—actually in front of anyone; you’ve always kept everything to yourself.
Now that you think of it, you think you might have scared Kate. She’s silent, just staring at you, hands still on your face. You think you blew it, that it was too much for her. After all, you’ve been dating for only a little over a year. Thoughts started to flood your mind, creating the worst scenarios and just when you were about to apologize-
“Marry me.” Kate said, her face not showing any emotions. You were speechless; did you hear it right? Kate asked you to marry her? Well, it wasn’t really a question, more like as if she just admitted to herself that she wants to marry you. Nonetheless, there is still a part of you that believes that you heard it wrong. “What?” You breathed out, your eyes searching for reassurance in hers.
“Marry me.” She repeated more confidently this time as if coming back to life. “I’m serious. I know that we haven’t been dating for long, but I also want to be with you forever. I love you and I don’t want to be with anyone else; you are the only one for me. I want everything with you, I want you. This won’t be easy, but that’s great. Easy is boring.” you both giggled at that. “This is reckless and not normal at all, but let’s just be for real. We are reckless and nothing in our lives is normal, I mean, your moms are a witch and an ex-assassin and I am an Avenger. Nothing ever was normal and nothing will be, and frankly, I love it this way.” Kate ended her heartwarming speech with a big smile on her face, tears now also in her eyes. “So, Y/N Romanoff, will you marry me?”
“Yes!” You said matching her smile. “Of course I will marry you.” Pulling the shirt you still had a grip on, you pull Kate into a slow kiss, filled with salty tears. You think you’ve never been so sure about anything in your life. Honestly, that’s all you ever wanted, to marry the love of your life and that is marrying Kate Bishop.
“Good, cause I thought for a second that I went too far.” Kate started to ramble after pulling away. You thought that the best way to stop her from that was to kiss her again. It didn’t last long though, because after a few seconds she pulled back again. She turned so she’s sitting straight, her back to the seat, and started to wave her hands around. “Oh my, I need to buy a ring. God! I’m so unprepared!” You tried to stop her by calling her name, but that didn’t really work.
“Katherine Elizabeth Bishop!” Using her full name did work. She stopped immediately and looked at you. You giggled at her. “You need to stop worrying about that. I want to marry you, not the ring. I don’t need any rings, just you, okay?” Kate looked at you as if looking for clarification, then she cutely tilted her head and pouted and that just made you want to kiss her.
“I know, but I really want to get you a ring. You deserve that, you deserve a big proposal with-with rose petals, a nice dinner and a big diamond ring, not this. A girl who proposes in her car without even a paper ring.” She started having doubts about herself; you could see that. “I love that girl. I don’t need some rich and stuck-up proposal. I couldn’t have imagined it better than this.” You made sure she was looking at you as you said that to her. That was the truth, so you wanted her to believe you.
“Okay.. okay.” Kate clears her throat, then adds. “So, shall we go and get married now?” you both smiled at each other. Reaching for seat belts in order to fasten them, you answered. “Yes, we shall.”
It turned out it wasn’t that easy. You had to have witnesses. After some thinking, you reached out to Aunt Yelena, while Kate called Clint. Although it took some convincing to get the old man to drive here because, as he said, he doesn’t want to ‘deal with angry mothers anymore’, whatever that means, he might have been referring to Laura, but you’re not sure; you also think that he really just didn’t want to move his three letters.
Well, eventually, he agreed. Yelena didn’t need this much convincing; well, she didn’t need to be convinced at all. She said she’d be happy to piss off her sister; she mentioned something about getting back at her for borrowing, without her knowing, one of her vests and then destroying it on a mission, but you could have misheard.
Kate got anxious again, but this time about clothing. Both of you wore casual clothes, not right for a marriage. So that’s how you got dragged by Kate for a little shopping. It took you both a while, but in Kate's eyes it was worth it, because now you and her looked good.
It wasn’t long before you and Kate signed up the marriage license with Clint and Yelena next to you, and you were good to go. You bit your goodbyes with them, then made your way to Kate’s car. While you were both sitting, the car still not turned on, you realized what just happened. ”We just got married.” Kate stated firmly, her face not showing any emotions while looking straight ahead. You turned your head to look at her. ”We just got married.” She repeated, now with a big smile on her face. Also turning her head to you, she started to giggle. Hearing her laughter, you started to giggle yourself, also not believing that this is real.
Kate leaned in and brought her hand to the back of your neck to pull your foreheads together. ”You are my wife.” She said breathlessly. ”I am your wife.” You said in the same tone. Your wife pulled you into a long, passionate kiss. ”Damn, your moms are really gonna kill me now” Kate said after pulling away. This caused you both to burst out laughing. “Well, if this is my last hour, how about we make the best of it and go back to mine, my wife?“ She asked with a smirk on her face, clearly insinuating on doing something really not PG. Your cheeks turned slightly red, but you matched her smirk. “Lead the way, my wife.”
You’re sure that your superhero broke a few laws driving you to her apartment. Both of you are very eager and excited for what awaits you there. So as soon as the door was closed, Kate pushed you into it, trapping you between the wooden surface and her. Hands flying to your hips, squeezing and pushing more against the hardwood. Lips mingling with yours fastily, tongue pushing into your mouth, exploring the inside. Next thing you know, she was tagging at your pants, trying to take them off. Once you’re free from them, Kate’s hands traveled from your hips, over your ass, stopping on it for a second to squeeze, and then went downwards to the back of your thighs. With one swift movement, you were pulled from the door for a second, only to be pushed against it again, but this time with your legs around Kate’s waist.
Her kisses moved from your lips to nip at your neck, for sure, leaving lots of hickeys. You leaned your head back, revealing more skin on your neck. The particular bite on your pulse point made you moan. Your hands flew to her hair in order to pull her closer. With a mind full of thoughts about Kate, you breathlessly conhered some words. “B-bedroom… now.” you gasped when suddenly Kate pulled you both away from the door and started to blindly walk towards the bedroom. While you were stumbling across the living room, you threw your bag on the table, or at least you hoped it landed on the table, not caring about stuff inside. Though you’re pretty sure that your bag opened from the impact.
After some struggling, your back hit the bed with Kate on top of you. Lips once again connected, Kate started grinding her hips on yours. Suddenly, you felt it—the hardness underneath her pants. “Is-is that-?” You stuttered, then moaned because Kate pressed herself harder on you, so you feel it against your core.
“Mhm, a new one.” Kate smirked at you and again pushed her hips into yours, making you gasp. She leaned down to your neck and started to mark you everywhere she could. When she got to your pulse point, you moaned and gripped the back of her head, burying your fingers into her hair, pulling her closer. You feel hands tagging at your shirt. With your arms up, Kate swiftly takes off your shirt, leaving you in only your panties and bra. However, it doesn’t take long for her to also remove these undergarments. “So pretty.. so delicious, just for me to taste.” Kate’s hands started to wander.
Wanting to see more of Kate, you unbuttoned her shirt, slid it down her arms and then the shirt joined the rest of the clothes on the ground in the bedroom. Your hands immediately flew to her arms to feel her strong muscles. Then, to her abdomen, where she clearly has abs. “One of many perks of being an Avenger; lots of training that makes you have these muscles.” You stare in awe, biting your lip.
Kate leaned down again and nipped at your skin, making her path from your neck to your chest. She took your left nipple in her mouth, sucking on it hard, while her other hand squeezed the right breast. After some time, she switched the breasts and started sucking on the right one. ”Please, Kate… I want you.. now.” you pleaded.
Not wanting to tease you, just this night, Kate pulled away and took off the rest of her clothes, revealing the strap-on. “Purple?” You chuckle a little.
“What? I look good in purple.” Kate grinned and once again got on top of you. The strap was rubbing against your clit, making you shut your eyes and groan softly. “You want my cock, sweetheart?” Kate asked, rubbing her strap even harder.
“Yes! Please, Kate, I want your cock. Please fuck me.” You desperately rumble, your mind full of thoughts of how she can ruin you. This strap is definitely bigger than what you were used to, but you are willing to try this, considering how wet you are for her.
Kate leaned to your ear to whisper. “As you wish, babygirl.” Right after that, she harshly pushed at least a half of the strap in your pussy. Your moans and grunts get louder as she continues to slide in. “Fuck, baby. Always so tight for me.” You shut your eyes tightly as you feel more and more fuller with every second.
Finally, your hips were flush against each other. Your breath is more ragged as you try to get used to the fullness. “Kate… s-so full, fuck, so big” you moaned. After a few more seconds, Kate started to pull out and thrust her hips forward, causing you to let out a loud scream.
Your moans only encouraged Kate to keep going. The thrusts were much harder now; it made your head spin. You wrapped your arms around her back, burying your nails into it. Kate hissed into your ear from the harsh scratches, but it fuelled her to give you more. The room was filled with the sounds of your moans and the slapping of your hips with every thrust. “Kate- shit… I’m going to-” you are cut off by a hoarse groan that bursts out of your throat when Kate hits one particular place.
“It’s okay. Let go for me, baby.” Kate said breathlessly. That was all you needed, and soon your eyes rolled back. You arched your back into her, threw your head back and let out a silent scream. Kate was still thrusting into you as you were falling over the edge.
After you calmed down, she slowly pulled out of you. You groaned at the emptiness as you were trying to catch your breath. Kate was peppering your body with soft kisses. When she got up to your face, you smiled at each other. “That- that was incredible.” you said panting. “Glad you liked it, my love.” she pecked your lips. With a swift move, you turned you both over, so Kate was now on her back with you on top of her. “Let me return the favor.” you grinned and leaned down to kiss her.
*****
You were lying on the bed with your head on Kate’s chest. Your arm around her abdomen, leg between hers. Kate has her arm wrapped around your bare body. The covers were loosely thrown on both of you as you were lying together in your own, quiet bubble.
“You know… I was thinking..” Kate started. You turned your head to look at her and wait for her to continue. “Since we are married now” this made you smile. You still can’t believe that this is real and that Kate is your wife now. “Maybe, if you want… you could move in with me.” your eyes widen at her words. A smile spread across your face. You lifted slightly from the bed to move closer to her and give her a passionate kiss in which you couldn’t stop smiling. The same goes for Kate.
When you pulled out, you looked her in the eyes. “Of course I want to move in with you!” you both had such big smiles on your faces that your cheeks started to ache. “Great! I was scared for a second that you wouldn’t want that. What will you tell your moms, though? Maybe you should-” as Kate continued to rumble, your heart stopped. Shit. Your moms, they don’t know anything, AND you said you were going for a walk, which is now about six hours long. Shit, shit. Your phone has been on silent since you went to get married. They probably called you and texted you a million times.
“Shit, my moms! They have to wonder where I am!” you said cutting her off and quickly got out of bed, panicking. You throw on yourself one of Kate’s hoodies, put on your panties and some Kate’s shorts. At the corner of your eye, you see that Kate also got up and started to get dressed. You left the bedroom and headed towards the living room, where you left your phone in the bag. Just as you walked into the living room space, your heart stopped at the sight.
So, now you know the story behind why an angry witch and a pissed-off ex-assassin broke into the apartment and were standing in the living room. They had their hands on their hips, with scowls on the faces. “Mom, mama-” You were immediately caught off. “Don’t mamas us!” Wanda scoffed. She rarely got angry, she preferred to do things the calm way. However, when she did get angry, oh boy, hide if you can.
They had every right to be angry and you knew it. So you chose to stay silent this time. “Do you want to explain where you’ve been?” Nat asked with her jaw locked tight. “And why, when I called Clint to ask if he knew something about your whereabouts, he said that he doesn’t want to get involved anymore?” this time Wanda spoke. “Or why, when I called Yelena to ask if she knew something, she just laughed and hung up?” Natasha added. It was as if they talked it through, because they were literally changing after one sentence. It was creepy. “You lied to us, went radio silent and met up with the one person we specifically told you not to see!”
The person, as if on cue, came into the living room and stopped dead in tracks. “Mrs. Romanoff and..” Kate cleared her throat “Mrs. Romanoff.” She stood right next to you, her eyes locked on anything but your moms. The thick tension could be cut with a knife. You didn’t know what they would do now, with Kate next to you.
“And here’s the person in the flesh.” stated firmly Natasha, her eyes shooting daggers at Kate. “Mom, please.” you pleaded. You didn’t want this place to turn into a war zone. “Please what? Y/N, we've forbidden you from seeing her and the next thing you did after that was see her! You don-”
“What is that?” Wanda stopped Natasha from further shouting at you as she noticed something. You turned your head where she was looking, and your face turned pale. Wands was looking at the coffee table where you had thrown your bag earlier. The bag opened from the impact and some things fell out of it on the table. One of the things was your and Kate's marriage license. Your heart stuck in your throat as Wanda walked closer to it. She reached for the paper, picked it up and for a moment there was silence. But only for a short moment.
“You got married?!” Wanda shouted, turning to face you and Kate. Now she was really, really angry. Like the kind of angry when she has her eyes narrowed, eyebrows furrowed so that they are almost touching, and the worst, the little tilt in her head. Now you were fucked. “You what?!” this time Natasha shouted.
“I-... we just..” you wanted to say something, but didn't know what. What do you say in a situation like that, though? It was tough, but fortunately Kate noticed that you were struggling and decided to speak for you. She reached her hand to yours and interlaced your fingers together. Kate cleared her throat, mentally preparing herself for anything that could happen after she spoke. “We did. We got married today.” you didn't think that was possible, but silence was never this loud.
“Why would you do that? And without any of us knowing” Wanda spoke angrily as she handed the married license to Nat.
Natasha read the license, still not believing what she just heard. Her eyes stopped at one point. “Bishop? You changed your last name to Bishop?” Natasha asked in disbelief, interrupting Wanda. “Yeah…” you said, unsure, waiting for the explosion from your parents.
However, there is something else on their faces. Hurt? Disappointment? Sadness? You couldn't tell, but you knew you didn't like it. “Mom, mama, please don't look at me like that.” you said sadly, there is a stone in your heart. “I've never wanted to get married without you there, but I also didn’t want to marry anyone but Kate. And you specifically told me that I can't be with her… I just.. I couldn't let that happen. I just want you to be happy for me.” you reasoned, tears once again pricking in your eyes. You felt Kate's hand smoothing your back, which calmed you a little.
“Mrs. Romanoffs, I really love your daughter. You care about her safety as much as I do. I promise to keep her safe and sound.” Kate calmly said, meaning every word.
Wanda and Nat looked at each other, having a silent conversation. Soon, they turned back to face you and Kate. “Oh God..” Nat groaned, letting out a breath. “Y/N, darling, we didn't want you to feel like that; we just…” she didn't really know how to say it, so Wanda took the wheel. “We just love you so much, we want to keep you safe. However, I admit that we did go a little too far. We shouldn't get between you and Kate.” she says. Your eyes lit up a little, a small smile started to spread on your face. “Does that mean..?” you asked, still not sure you understood what they just said. “Yes, you can see Kate.”
Now you have the biggest smile on your face. You jumped up and down and then pulled your mothers in a hug, squeezing in happiness. Your moms laughed a little and hugged you back. “We love you, darling, and we are happy for you.”
“Thank you. I love you both, very much.” you grinned and pulled away from the hug. You go back to stand next to Kate, whose smile is as big as yours, and interlace your fingers.
“However,” Natasha turned to Kate with a stoic expression. “If you hurt her, I will hunt you down.” Kate started to feel a little nervous again, but tried not to show it. “Of course, I-I would never hurt her; I love her.” she rumbled quickly.
Soon, Wanda and Nat left the apartment, saying that today they will leave you and Kate alone, but tomorrow they want you both at home for dinner.
You went back to bed, lying next to each other. Both of you fell asleep in a loving embrace.
(2 weeks ago)
"Y/n, you can't keep acting like a child you're twenty-one," Dick whisper shouted in the corner of the batcave.
"Dick, I'm not going to apologize for helping people-"
"You disobeyed a direct order. You could have been hurt, you can't be that kind of influence to Tim and Damian."
"You don't even live here, Dick, you can't just-"
"You're benched until further notice."
"You can't-"
"Benched," Bruce confirmed stepping over to them.
(1 week ago)
"Hey, Dick, do you have a sec," she asked into the phone then immediately bit firmly into her hand to hold back a sob.
"You're still benched," he said without remorse.
"That's not-you know what never mind." She hung up on him and threw the phone onto her bed heading to her en-suite bathroom to release the itch.
(present)
"Beloved! Beloved, look I-," Damian shouted with glee but cut himself off with a scream when he opened her unlocked bathroom door. He thought she was doing her face masks not...in the bathtub with blood dripping from her arms into pink bubble filled water.
"Damian wait," she called after his retreating form. Shit, shit. She hurried to drain the water and throw on her over sized t-shirt just managing to pull some boxers on when Damian burst back in with Tim, practically dragging him into the space.
"Damian what's the problem-"
"Fix her," he shouted with haste and was about to shove Tim into the room when he noticed y/n standing there looking fine.
"Damian, I'm ok, I promise," she tried to convince him softly. He looked from her to the tub, not even a drop of evidence in sight.
"No, you-I saw the blood. Tim she cut herself I saw it," he told the older boy trying to lunge for her arm but she side stepped him.
"Damian, give us a minute," Tim tried to gently shoo him away. Damian shook his head aggressively and latched himself onto her side, clinging to her like a koala. She combed her fingers through his hair and gently detangled him.
"Dami, Tim and I just need to have a quick chat, he's gonna fix me right up, aren't you, Tim," she asked, sending him a look that clearly gave direction.
"Yeah, kid, I'll take care of her, she'll be right as rain."
"You won't hurt yourself again?" He was giving her puppy eyes, looking his own age for once and it pulled on her heart strings.
"I won't," she agreed patting him on the head and crossing her fingers behind her back with the other hand. Damian gave her one last hug then hurried out of the room. There was an awkward silence as Tim stood blocking the doorway, his jaw ticking and toe nearly tapping.
"You know I have to tell."
"Please don't." She shook her head then grabbed the first aid kit beneath the sink.
"Let me," he said softly, taking it from her and getting out the supplies. When she set her arm on the counter for him to work he sucked in a breath. "Those are deep," he accused.
"I wasn't trying anything. I'm not stupid, just a heavy bleeder." She rolled her eyes where he couldn't see and hissed when he dumped alcohol on her arm.
"They almost need stitches."
"Butterfly stickers are fine," she said digging them out of the kit one handed.
"I at least have to tell Dick-"
"NO," she said so firm he actually stepped back to look at her.
"I have to tell someone, I can't watch you 24/7."
"I don't need babysat," she seethed.
"I can tell Bruce or I can tell Dick first. Either way you aren't doing this alone."
"I cant stop you?"
"Not a chance."
"Dick told me I needed to be a better influence for you. Sorry for fucking that up, but to be fair there's worse things about me. I tried to call him a week ago, I was feeling the um...the 'itch' so to speak but as soon as he picked up he told me I was still benched. I was so pissed that he immediately thought that's what I called for I told him never mind and hung up. You can't tell him that, after Jason you know he-"
"Hates missing phone calls," Tim finished for her. **^
Tim had every intention of telling him, he knew it would hurt but come on, she tried to get help. Of course she didn't ask anyone in the house, but he wasn't about to be offended she didn't ask the child or his newly adult self for help, and he sure as hell got the not wanting to tell Bruce.
"Why not Alfred?"
"Hmm?"
"Why didn't you go to Alfred for help."
"He deals with enough shit from the rest of you, coming in half dead each night."
"That doesn't mean you come second, and sure as hell not last, we love you."
"Yeah, well it doesn't feel like it most of the time." He was finished with her arm and she resisted the urge to yank it away from him. One of Jason's flannel was on a towel hook on the wall and she quickly put it on to hide the bandages.
"I'm gonna go make sure Dami's ok," she said gently moving him out of the way. The second she was gone he hurried back to his room for his phone, that he'd left on the charger and yanked the cord out. He hit speed dial 3, Dick's cell, and held the phone to his ear while he headed out on his balcony to totally not scale down the wall instead of taking the stairs. Dick picked up on the 4th ring with a tired sigh and a 'this better be good' Tim told him to wait a sec while he got way out of hearing range.
"Did Y/n call you last week?"
"Uh, yeah, why?"
"Did you jump her case and not give her a second to speak?"
"You sound a bit pissed timbers, cut to it and tell me what I did. I haven't slept in 37 and a half hours."
"And you call me an idiot," he snorted.
"Tick tock bro," Dick mumbled head already sinking into his pillow.
"She'd been cutting herself and she called you to ask for help, well, she didn't say that word, but she was calling to tell you what she'd been doing to herself," Tim stated with little to no remorse for the heart attack he'd just given his brother.
"She what," Dick shouted throwing off the blankets and grabbing his go bag.
"I assume you'll catch the next train?" The sound of Dick falling and cursing while he hopped into pants could be heard and Tim nodded and hung up. Thankfully because the author said so Dick had switched from his police job to a remote roll in Wayne industries he just stayed in Bludhaven to have his independence and not deal with Bruce more than he had to. Alfred insisted he come for monthly dinners and he did.
Tim went back inside to hunt for Y/n and Damian and found them having mugs of hot chocolate together on the kitchen counter.
"So, you're ok," Damian asked in a small voice using a stir stick to hold his marshmallows under the liquid.
"I told you, Tim fixed me, and he probably ran off to call Dick so he could come make double sure I'm ok. You don't need to worry, I promise I'll always be here to have hot cocoa with," she replied, crossing her heart and holding out her pinkie to him. He hooks his with hers and to her surprise continued to hold on, not moving to actually hold her hand but simply letting their hands rest on the counter pinkies linked. Not wanting to interrupt Tim quietly made his way back out, he still had some calls to make.
Jason picked didn't pick up on the first call, or the second but finally on the third he answered out of breath and with gunshots loud in the foreground.
"The hell dya' want," he all but shouted into the line dodging hits and getting in several of his own.
"Sorry, I'll call back later-"
"No, talk now, I got it under *way too loud thud* control."
"Just uh, get here as quick as you can, nobodies dying so-"
"Make it quick but don't freak, got it." And he hung up. Next was Bruce who surprise surprise didn't answer a call or text, so Tim left a message.
"Get off Selena and come help your kid," he said with more aggression than snark. (this doesn't feel at all like something Tim would say but i'm not familiar enough with his character to fix it)
This time when he went to the kitchen it was just Y/n on the counter Damian had gone who knows where.
"So who all did you tell?"
"Just Dick so far, he's on his way. Jason was in the middle of a fight so he's coming later but I didn't tell him and Bruce didn't pick up-"
"Shocker, dude nabs all these kids then can't be bothered to spend time with them outside of a Halloween costume," she scoffed rolling her eyes.
"You're not wrong but-"
"Oh, don't start Stan." She waved him off hopping down to wash the mugs not willing to leave them for Alfred.
Sugar Rush
Family is More Than Blood Masterlist
Summary: Carol needs advice on how to ask you on a date.
Warning: fluff, some amount of angst, mention of past abuse from the Red Room and Dreykov, Val is a good friend, everyone loves to tease the reader, gay panic
Word Count: 5.3k
Maybe Carol was overthinking it. This wasn’t foreign territory to her. It was easy for her to get a girl into bed with her. Yes, it built her a reputation as a playboy, but no one got hurt. In her eyes, she was entitled to a bit of fun after all the hell she’s been through. But you were different, so Carol needed to be different. Carol found you attractive. She believed anybody was an idiot if they failed to see your physical beauty. However, it was your heart that drew her in.
Her time was between patrolling the stars and helping the Avengers on Earth. Somehow, you were all Yelena talked about when she was at the compound. Since the fall of the Accords, Yelena has painted this picture of you. Her older sister gave herself up to Dreykov, so she and Natasha could be free. Carol was intrigued by you. She wondered how someone who was captured by the darkness so young and for so long was good.
It was easy for you to capture Carol on your web; she knew you had no idea what you were doing. At first, it was the way she caught you staring at her when she got done meeting with Steve. The blush on your cheek was Carol’s new favorite color. Then, it was the way you confronted the Widow after exposing her to the red dust. You opened your arms to her without hesitation. You comforted her and reassured her that it was not her fault.
At the bar, where you thankfully agreed to get a drink, it was your smile as you tried to hide it. The way your eyes lit up when you talked about your sisters. Even when she spoke of her life, you hung on every word she said.
What she told your sisters was true. She wanted to be your friend. If it led to more (which she hopped), then she would be grateful. But it would be on your timeline; she wouldn’t force you to do anything you weren’t comfortable with.
So here she was, on her ship and lost on what to do. You were visiting the compound for a few days, and it linked up to when Carol was coming back to Earth. Your friendship was growing through text messages or short phone calls. Carol wanted to plan something fun to do together. She called Valkyrie for help. Was it wise to call her ex-girlfriend and her first girlfriend since Monica? Unsure, but there weren’t other people she could ask. Besides, she and Val ended things on good terms; they were better off as friends. “Oh captain, my captain,” Val teased when the call connected and her hologram came up. “What do I owe the pleasure?” Carol rolled her eyes.
“Am I interrupting?”
“Oh, you are, but being a king is trying work,” she sighed dramatically. “What do you need? You never call.” She winced and made a mental note to be better at that.
“I need advice.”
“Is this about the Black Widow you fancy?” Val asked.
“I don’t fancy her,” she stood up from her bed and moved around her ship. “Also, who says fancy anymore?” Val laughed. “But yes, it’s about her,” she picked up a toy for Goose and threw it. The flerken ran after it. “I want to plan something but don’t know what to do.” Val hummed.
“Is the endgame to sleep with her?” Carol slapped her hand against her forehead. “What?” Val asked while laughing. “It’s a valid question, and depending on the answer, I could give different options,” Carol sighed, picked up the toy Goose brought back, and threw it again.
“Yes,” she admitted. “But not right away. She’s special, Val, and I don’t want to fuck this up like I normally do. If I do, I will have two very pissed-off Black Widows after me,” Carol paused. “3 if her mother decides to join in on the hunt,” Val laughed so hard, she almost fell out of her chair. The sound made Carol smile. Val was a pain in her ass sometimes, but she was grateful for her.
“Goodness, I forgot how funny you are.” Carol wasn’t sure if that was a compliment, so she kept her comments to herself. “So we want friendship to possible lovers’ date ideas, right?”
“Yes,” Carol sighed, shaking her head. She was starting to regret asking Val.
“And she’s the one who gave herself up for her sisters,” Carol hummed. “Heroic,” Val was silent beside the click of her pen, and she leaned back in her chair. So Carol kept throwing the toy for Goose. “Take her to an arcade.”
“An arcade?” Carol questioned, froze mid-throw, and looked at Val’s hologram. The flerken yelled at her, so she threw it at him. Val was leaning on her desk with her hands crossed.
“Yeah, she’s probably never been to one. You guys can be all cute and competitive; then you can woo her by winning her a prize.”
“I hate you,” Carol deadpanned, but it wasn’t a bad idea.
“No, you don’t, or you wouldn’t have called me,” she had a point. “Let me know how it goes.”
“Thanks, Val,” Carol smiled. “I’ll come visit soon.”
“Bring the new boo thang,” Carol hung up before Val could say anything. Sighing, she sat down in her chair with her hands over her eyes. She felt a little silly, acting like a teenager with a crush. But she was nervous and a little anxious, and these were feelings she wasn’t used to. Goose ran over and jumped on her lap, rubbing his head against her hand to get the captain to pet him. Carol smiled.
“Maybe I should take you with me. She does want to meet you,” the flerken meowed. “Do you promise not to eat any of them?” Immediately, Goose jumped off her lap. “That does not provide me with any confidence.”
⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆
“Hey stranger,” you turned around from your spot in the kitchen to see Carol. While you were in Russia, you missed your sisters. You missed spending time with Wanda, but you missed Carol the most. These feelings were something you were still trying to understand. While apart, your friendship was forged over text messages and phone calls. You worried your friendship wasn’t going to work in person.
“Did you bring him?” You asked. Carol shook her head but chuckled at your frown.
“Stark doesn’t like Goose,” she said and took half of the sandwich you made. You could give two fucks about Stark’s feelings. You wanted to meet the cat or Flerken or whatever. “Goose tried to eat him last time.”
“Good,” you shrugged. “He probably deserved it.” Carol laughed and took a bite. “Is it good?” The captain nodded with a smile. You rolled your eyes and took a bite of your half. She was right. It was good. Another thing about the compound is that your food was never safe.
“Do you have plans for tonight?” Usually, you would spend it with whoever wanted to watch a movie or play video games.
“Nope,” you said. “Do you want to do something?” You watched her smile grow, and you enjoyed it.
This is the first time you’ve done this. You only looked at someone and enjoyed their mannerisms by analyzing every detail for a mission. Slowly, you were unlearning those behaviors while leaving with the Avengers. Wanda liked tea before she went to bed. Steve always had a sketchbook next to him. When Yelena was nervous or anxious, she played with the rings on her fingers.
You liked learning about Carol. When she was reading over a mission report, she was spinning a pen between her fingers. Her eyes would light up when she was asked about Monica or Goose because she loved them both. She was playful, snarky, and wasn’t afraid to tease your sisters or Tony. “Do you want to go somewhere with me?” She asked.
“Do I get to know where we are going?” you countered. Carol shook her head. “It sounds like you are kidnapping me,” the captain smirked.
“Do you think I could kidnap you and get away with it?” You shrugged. It would be a challenge, but it would be fun. Besides, she could not get very far. Carol laughed.
“Do you trust me?” It went against your training to trust anyone, but you wanted to trust her.
“Yes,” you answered.
“Good, wear something casual, and I’ll pick you up at 5,” she winked at you, leaving you alone in the kitchen. You shook your head with a smile and ignored the way her playful gesture filled your stomach with butterflies. Instead of focusing on the upcoming hang-out with Carol, you began to clean the kitchen. It was a simple task that kept your mind busy and present. You were so distracted that you didn’t realize someone else entered the kitchen.
“Why are you cleaning?” You jumped at the sound of Wanda’s voice. “I am going to brag for years that I was able to sneak up on you,” you rolled your eyes at the witch and splashed water at her before drying your hand. “That was uncalled for.”
“Are you hungry? I can make you something quick,” you said, ignoring her question by opening the fridge and pretending to look through it. But you felt her eyes on your back. “Stop that,” you said.
“Then answer my question,” you sighed and closed the fridge. Wanda sat on a chair, and you leaned against the counter. Thankfully, Wanda gave you time to collect your thoughts. It seemed wild that these people cared about you when you hadn’t been in the compound for long. It was a feeling you were getting used to. You’ve been on your own for so many years. Sighing, you twisted the ring your sisters gave you for your birthday.
“Carol asked if I wanted to hang out tonight, and I said yes,” you said slowly.
“You guys hand out all the time,” Wanda said with a slight tilt of her head. That was true. If you weren’t with Wanda or your sisters, you were with Carol.
“Her asking me felt different,” you told her. “I think she asked me on a date.” A smile grew on the witch’s face.
“Finally!” She threw her arms in the air. “I’ve been so tired of listening to her thoughts whenever you guys are in the same room.” You felt your body heat up.
“She thinks about me?” You questioned.
“All the time,” she answered honestly. “Some thoughts aren’t very PG,” you groaned and snapped a towel at her. Wanda laughed and took your weapon of choice. “I will be fine,” she said. “Besides, she is in your mind just as much, if not more.” You flipped Wanda off as she took an orange from the fruit bowl and left.
You tried to keep your thoughts at bay around Wanda. Yelena told you the story of how they met the witch. You trusted her, especially since your sisters did, but your mind was filled with so much bloodshed you caused that you did not want to subject her to that. Of course, she was right. Carol always seemed to be on your mind. Maybe it wasn’t a bad thing after all.
⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆
“An arcade?” you questioned and looked at Carol. You stood at the entrance, amazed by the sounds and lights.
“Yeah, I thought it would be fun and a little competitive.” Carol walked over to the counter and bought two game cards from the high schooler. You were busy looking at the lights flashing and the sounds of the games. “Is this okay?” she asked and handed you a card that looked like an ID.
“I’ve never been to one,” you followed her to where the prizes were. They had candy, stuffed animals, and fidget toys. Above everything else were the more expensive prizes like game consoles and household products. You weren’t sure what a kid would do with an air fryer. “There was one in the mall in Ohio, but I wasn’t allowed to go in.” You were so jealous of the kids that were running around being kids.
“Is this okay?” Her question snapped you of your thoughts. She looked concerned.
“I’m gonna kick your ass in that shooting game I saw.”
⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆
You won the shooting game, but she got more tickets than you. Combined, you had enough for a small teddy bear that she gave to you, and after the arcade, she took you to dinner for food. You had a great time. Not that you feared you wouldn’t, but this felt different. You weren’t afraid to hide your glances at her as you watched her concentrate on the silly games. She was adorable, and the smile on your face hurt your cheeks.
“Hey,” Carol’s gentle voice pulled you out of sleep. “We are back at the compound.” You opened your eyes and blinked away the sleep.
“Shit, sorry, I didn’t mean to fall asleep,” you rubbed your eyes and Carol smiled.
“It’s fine,” she said and turned off the car. You looked cute.” It was reflexes when you punched her arm softly, but you felt your body heat up at the compliment. Her laughter followed you as you exited the car with her teddy bear in hand. Out of the car, you heard the weather—the pounding of the rain against the walls. There was the distinct sound of thunder.
“It’s raining,” you said.
“Yup,” Carol closed the door of the car. “We seemed to have followed the storm.” A smile grew on your face. “Why are you smiling?” You loved the rain. You loved laying in bed and listening to the weather back in Ohio. Sooner rather than later, Yelena would end up in your but that moment of peace you cherished. Without answering, you placed your prize on the car’s roof and walked to the garage door. The hum of the garage opener filled the silence. Then, the smell of petrichor filled your lungs. “What are you doing?”
You glanced over your shoulder with a mile and walked up the driveway. Immediately, the rain soaked your clothes. A gasp left your lips as the temperature of the rain startled you. Soon, your body got used to the cold. “You are going to get sick,” Carol said with a smile and crossed arms.
“I can’t get sick,” it was a half-truth. It was more challenging for you to get sick. “You can come keep me warm,” you smirked. You held your breath as you watched Carol think it over. Maybe you were being too forward. Perhaps all she wanted was to be friends. The captain shook her head. With a smile, she ran up the ramp and into you. You laughed as you wrapped your arms around her neck, and she spun you in a circle. Carol placed you on the ground. Your laughter died down, and you stared at her lips.
You couldn’t remember your first kiss. It was before Ohio, you thought - a short kiss between you and another Window. As you got older, kissing was used as a tool. You would make out with a target and slip a sedative in their drink. Now you wanted to kiss someone and have it mean something. That scared you. Would kissing her change what you already had? You would rather stay friends than ruin it.
“Tag your it,” you said, tagged the Avenger, and ran off. Running seemed like the more straightforward thing to do.
⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆
Carol sighed and stepped out of the bathroom. Her hair was still wet from the shower, but she had time to dry and style it. Her phone rang when she changed into gray pants and a white sports bra. “Hey Val,” she said, placing the phone on speaker. “I find it rude that you aren’t at this party.” Val laughed.
“Maybe Stark shouldn’t plan something so last minute,” Val had a point. “Turn on your camera. Let me see what you are wearing.” Carol rolled her eyes and placed her phone against the lamp to turn on the camera. She was finishing buttoning her white shirt when her friend’s face appeared on the phone. “I like the gray suit,” she wiggled her eyebrows. “Is she going to be there?”
“Not sure,” Carol stood in the bathroom to dry her hair and brushed it out. “She’s returning from a mission. Nat isn’t sure if she’ll be back.”
“But you are still trying to look hot,” Carol shrugged.
“Always good to be prepared,” she returned to the closest to put on her gray vest. It was more than just looking good. She felt confident in this suit. After the almost kiss in the raid, she needed all the confidence she could get.
“What’s wrong?” Val asked. “If you keep frowning like that, you will get more wrinkles.” The captain flipped her friend off. “So what’s the matter?” Carol sighed.
“We almost kissed last week, and we haven’t hung out since then,” she told her. “I don’t want to force her into something she isn’t ready for. I’d rather be friends than lose her.” Val was watching her closely.
“You aren’t forcing her, Carol,” she said. “If she did not like you, she wouldn’t hang out with you. " That was true, but Carol was worried. She is her own person.” You were, and Carol was lucky to see glimpses of the person you were becoming. “Goodness, you have it bad for her.”
“Shut up,” Carol mumbled, but she did not deny it. “I’ll talk to you later.”
“Let me know how it goes!” Carol waved and ended the call. She had it bad for you, and it was so worth it.
⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆
“There she is!” Yelena cheered. Carol watched the blonde run over to you. Something short-circuited in Carol’s brain. It wasn’t her proudest moment; the way her jaw dropped, a bit of her drink fell down her chin.
“Damn, you got it bad, Danvers,” Steve laughed and handed her a napkin. Carol snatched it out of his hand.
“Language, soldier,” but he wasn’t wrong. It was hard not to look at you. She saw the politicians glance your way. The red dress highlighted your figure with a thigh slight and spaghetti straps. She could tell you were wearing little makeup, but you never needed it, in her opinion. Steve chuckled.
“Maybe you should tell her how you feel,” he said. “You never know what could happen”. Carol looked at Steve and then back at you. Natasha and Maria joined the small group around you. You caught her looking, and you waved. She raised her glass to you with a smile. It was embarrassing how often she thought about kissing you or holding you in her arms. But she promised your sisters and herself she would take it slow and not force you.
“Yeah,” she whispered. “Maybe you’re right.”
⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆
God, you hated parties with politicians. The dress wasn’t helping your situation, but when Sonya discovered your slight crush on Carol, she suggested the red dress. It was working. Her eyes were on you as soon as you arrived, but she hadn’t moved toward you. You sat at the table with your back to the wall, nursing a rum and coke. Yelena was with Sam and Wanda. Natasha was talking with some politicians whose names you couldn’t remember. You weren’t worried. She could handle herself around men like this. Men who valued power over personal values. It was hard to find a good politician these days. Maria and Steve were with her.
Honestly, you were so exhausted - mind, body, and soul - which wasn’t helping your mood. The past three days were late nights chasing down Widows, exposing them to the red dust, and then helping them settle. All you wanted to do was crawl into bed and sleep for a week, but luck was not on your side. Tony was having a party with a few politicians. You could have gone back to Russia, but it was packed with Widows, and you would get no rest with Alexei being annoying. So, the compound was the best option. Even though Yelena wanted to see you at the party. “Well, well, well,” a man said, walking over to you. He was drinking an old fashion. “Mind if I join you?”
“It’s all yours, sir. " He smiled and took the empty seat. I don’t believe we’ve been introduced.”
“David Palmer,” he extended his hand for you to shake. Before you could introduce yourself, he cut you off. “I know who you are,” you said, keeping your smile on your face and tapping into your training. To everyone here, you were a businesswoman from Boston. The fewer people who knew you were with the Avengers, the better.
“Who am I, Mr. Palmer?” You asked and sipped on your drink. You saw Carol looking at you over the man’s shoulder.
“You are Dreykov’s spider,” he whispered as if he were telling you a secret. You felt the hairs on the back of your neck stand up, but you kept on smiling. It was only a matter of time before you ran into someone who knew your past. You wished it wasn’t happening here. You circled the liquid in your glass and leaned back in the chair with your right leg crossed over your left. His eyes trailed up and down your body.
“If I am who you think I am,” you said. “What will you do with that information, Mr. Palmer?” He sipped on his drink and looked around the party.
“Do they know?” He questioned. “Do they know everything you did for him?” Natasha and Yelena knew a fraction of what occurred between you and Dreykov. But you wanted to keep that a secret for the others, especially Carol. “I’m guessing they don’t because you are among the heroes here.”
“What do you want, Palmer?” You asked. You were done with being nice. He wanted something. It was the only reason he was here. David placed a hand on your thigh. You fought your instincts not to break every one of his fingers. You hated the way his hand felt on you.
“Just one night with you,” he said. “Or I won’t go to the press. No one will know that the Avengers are harboring a killer.” His hands squeezed the flesh of your thigh. “You can imagine how bad that would look for them.”
They would lose their credibility with the public. Everything would be questioned. As for you, well, you could not care. You had to protect them, but you hated the idea of sleeping around to keep a secret. “Thank you, Mr. Palmer, but I’d have to decline your very generous offer.” You removed his hand and stood up. Before you could walk away, he grabbed your hand and pulled you back, flesh to his chest.
“Do you think you are better than us, slut?” He asked. You’ve dealt with men like this before. Men that weren’t used to hearing no. “You are a nobody without the men that made you. So get on your knees and start serving me.”
Before you reconnected with your sisters, you would have done it. You would have gotten on your knees and pleased him because that was how you were trained. You were different now. Your life was different, and you hated the way this man touched you. You twisted out of his hold and grabbed a pressure point on his wrist. The man crumbled to his knees. The irony. “It’s not nice to grab someone if they don’t want to be touched.” You felt the eyes of everyone at the party. You were causing a scene.
You quickly turned around, put your half-finished drink on the bar, and walked to the stairs to the roof. Even with the Red Room gone, that place was still haunting you.
You liked the way the cold weather felt on her arms. It was like a gentle embrace, a crisp and refreshing touch that awakened your senses. The air’s chill contrasted with your skin’s warmth, creating a delightful shiver. There was a sense of tranquility in the coolness, a quiet calm that settled over everything. Each breath you took felt clearer and purer. “What did he say to you?” Carol asked, walking up behind you.
“Nothing, I haven’t heard before,” you answered, not looking at her. Even when she stood next to you.
“You can tell me if it would make you feel better.” You shook your head.
“I don’t want you to look at me differently,” you admitted. She was quiet as you both stared into the vast darkness.
“I could never,” you glanced at her, and she looked at you. “Do you need a hug?” she asked. You nodded, and she was quick to pull you into a hug. Her warmth was intoxicating. Your body relaxed, and muscles loosened as if you had shredded a heavyweight. Her hug felt safe, a sanctuary where you could feel relaxed and at ease. “I almost punched him,” she broke the beat of silence that passed between you and her.
“Better you than me. He’s a slimy piece of shit,” her chest vibrated as she laughed.
“Oh, I know. I hated how he looked at you,” so did you. It was like you were a piece of meat to him. Then again, it wasn’t a look you were unfamiliar with. You pulled out of the hug to look at her better. “You do look stunning in this dress, by the way,” you smiled and fixed her tie and gray vest that you had messed up from the hug.
“You don’t look half bad yourself, Captain.” You liked the way her cheeks blushed. “I wore this for you, by the way,” you walked away, fingers running across the metal railing. You felt her eyes on your back.
“Wait, wait,” she jogged to catch up. “What did you mean by that?” You shrugged as she gently grabbed your wrist but immediately let go of you. “Sorry, I shouldn’t have grabbed you.” You frowned at her statement. You offered her your hand, and she took it. “Why did you wear this dress for me?” She asked. You concentrated on the way your hand felt against hers. Her hand was rough but warm. It showed years of hard work.
“I wanted you to notice me,” you whispered.
“Notice you?” Carol questioned. “I am always noticing you. I can’t keep my eyes off of you,” a small squeak left the back of your throat. Carol smiled. “Do you want to go on a date?”
“Like a date-date?” You questioned. “Not as friends, but maybe as something more.”
“Do you want to be something more?” The question stumped you. But Carol was patient and played with the ring your sisters gave you on your finger. Did you want more? Did you want to go on dates? To fall asleep in her arms? To wake up to the feeling of her lifts on your skin? The idea terrified you. Before Carol, you ‘dated’ two other people. One was a girl in your class in Ohio. You both were too young to understand what it meant. The second person was a Red Room guard who trusted the man’s loyalty. He failed, so he was killed. There was a brief moment when you thought you were in love with the Winter Solider, but Carol could be different.
She would be someone without the influence of the Red Room, someone who understood a life of fighting, someone who could like you and look based on the scars on your body and the blood on your hands. “Yes,” you finally said. “But I’m not sure if I’ll be good at this,” Carol smiled and hugged you again. Immediately, you slummed into her warmth.
“I’m in the same boat,” she chuckled. “We can learn together.” Her lips briefly touched your forehead. The spot tingled, and it made you smile.
⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆
Your eyes closed as soon as your back hit your bed. Carol walked you to your room, kissed you on the cheek, and wished you a good night. You were frozen to the spot for a split second, and touched your cheek. Finally, you entered your room, showered, changed, and flopped onto the bed. The exhaustion of the past few days was catching up to you. But your eyes were forced open when there was rapid knocking on your door. “Come in,” you called out. The door opened. Suddenly, a body jumped on you, and blonde hair covered your vision. You groaned. “Get your fat ass off of me,” you pushed your sister off, and she fell onto the floor with a grunt.
“First of all, I am not fat,” she stood up. “Second, you are just jealous of this ass.” You rolled your eyes, and she sat next to you. “We wanted to make sure you are okay.” You pushed yourself up to your elbows and saw Natasha. Your sisters were changed and freshly showered.
“Stark threw that jackass out, and Maria is working on getting him removed from office,” it was a start, and you were grateful they were taking it seriously. But you knew it was only a matter of time before another dirty politician took his place.
“I’m okay,” you told your sisters. You watched Natasha close the door and sit down next to you. “What he said to me is stuff I’ll always hear.” You were numb to all of it. You’ve been called a monster, a slut, a killer. Everything from A to Z was thrown at you. It was something you were used to.
“I thought Carol was going to kill him,” Yelena said. “Steve had to stop her.” The mention of Carol made you smile, biting your lip, which Natasha noticed.
“What happened on the roof?” You shrugged, but the smile gave you away. Natasha nudged your shoulder with hers. “Come on, tell us.”
“She asked me on a date,” you said slowly. “And I said yes.”
“You said yes?” Yelena questioned. You nodded. There was silence before Yelena squealed and put her arms around you. She shook you from side to side.
“You and Natasha could go on double dates,” Honestly, that was the last thing you wanted to do. You pushed Yelena to the floor again. “Stop doing that!” You laughed and looked at the redhead. You weren’t sure why you looked for Natasha’s approval.
“I’m so happy for you,” she squished your cheeks. “Look at you dating. I love seeing you all happy,” you pushed her hands away and glared at her. That was payback for your teasing with Maria.
“I hate you,” you deadpanned. Natasha smiled. She stood up and moved to the top of your bed. “What are you doing?” You asked.
“You need sleep,” she answered. “Melina said it had been a long few days.”
“Alright, Mom,” you crawled up to the headboard. “Are you going to tuck me in?” She flicked your forehead. “Fuck off!” You said and rubbed the spot she flicked.
“Move over,” Yelena said, pushing you to the bed’s edge.
“I’m gonna need some room, too,” Natasha added. Yelena pushed closer to you, and Natasha laid down next to her. “You need a bigger bed.”
“I wasn’t expecting sleepovers all the time,” you said, closing your eyes and slowly falling asleep to the steady beat of Yelena’s heart. Then you felt Natasha’s hand on your shoulder. You opened your eyes to see Natasha looking at you.
“I hope you know we don’t think you are any of those things that man called you,” she whispered. “No one here does.” You forced a smile.
“Thank you, Nat,” you whispered. “Now go to sleep,” she chuckled, and you closed your eyes. It did not matter what they thought of you. You knew who you were. You knew you were a killer. The blood on your hands runs deep. No matter how often you tried washing your hands, the blood remained.
Mapi and ingrid x (child) reader- nightmares
"mami, mama" you said peaking out from your hiding place behind the hallway wall as Ingrid and mapi turn from where they were facing the tv to look at you.
"What are you still doing up bebita?" Mapi asked opening her arms for you to run into which you did without hesitation.
"Bad dream" you mumbled into her neck as her and Ingrid sighed, this had been a regular occurrence recently. Eventually you fell asleep in mapis arms as they decided it would just be easier for you to sleep in their bed with them so they would at least get a full night of sleeping though with a few kicks and hits here and there from you in your sleep but they would deal with that if it mean you wouldn't come up to them in the middle of the night bawling your eyes out when they had training the next day. They had made the mistake of taking you back to your room which resulted in you coming back and they decided after not having slept well the past few days they would make it easier on themselves.
When you woke up for training the next day you were still groggy and tired so mama decided they would keep you in your pyjamas which was your mamas jersey and mamis shorts which meant you could sleep sometime at training. Your mami and you usually hung out in the gym while she did her exercises for her knee but today she took you out to the field.
Barca Instagram were filming your mami as it was her first training after returning from injury. She was walking to the pitch with you next to her, your right arm holding her leg with one hand while the thumb of your other hand was in your mouth even though your dummy was clipped to your shirt. You had your blankie tucked under your left arm as you kept as close to her as possible as you were using her for balance.
"Hey bebita" patri and pina cooed at you as you shoved your head into your mamis leg as she groaned feeling your slobbery thumb on her calf as Ingrid laughed slightly
"She's a bit tired aren't you bebita" she said as you nodded against her leg and she ran her fingers through your hair which made your body sag more into her which didn't go unnoticed by the defender "I think it's nap time" she said as she picked you up but you shook your head
"No nap" you said but she nodded and put your dummy in your mouth which you tried to spit out but your mami held it gently in your mouth as you begrudgingly accepted it and she kissed you on the forehead in approval
"Ok no nap but how about you go sit with jana and give her big cuddles because she's still hurt" she said and you nodded as she led you over to where jana was watching on the bench
"Hola my favourite bebita" Jana cooed as you got transferred into her arms as you just sagged into her "is it nap time for little bebitas?" Jana asked which made you shake your head against her chest
"You need cuddles to get better" you murmured with your dummy half in your mouth so Jana only caught half of what you said
"Oh of course im so silly" Jana giggled as you just nodded and started nodding off as Jana threw a thumbs up at mapi and Ingrid who mouthed back a thank you
After a long fight and Jana gently running her finger from in between your eyebrows to your nose a few times you were asleep so Jana gently placed your blank or over your eyes even though you were still gripping onto it, it was big enough to still cover them. You were finally asleep. But not for long as after 30 short minutes you woke up and began screaming and crying which caught the attention of your mani and mama who came running over along with your tía ale, your other favourites pina and Patri and the rest of the team. Mama took you into her arms and began shushing you as you babbled incoherently about what happened in your nightmare though no one could understand so they were still confused on what happened. Ingrid gently pulled your dummy out of your mouth as she gently patted your bum to soothe you
"can you use your big girl words and tell us what happened?" Ingrid asked gently as you nodded and she wiped away your slowing tears
"Big big monster" you started as you used your hands and opened them as wide as you could "and it are you and mami and tía ale and Jana and Bruna and pina and Patri and Cata and Salma and oni and-" you started naming the whole team before you cut yourself off and shoved your face into your mamis neck and sobbing again as your mums and the rest of the team frowned but their hearts also swooned at how sad you were that they got eaten
"It's okay there's no monsters here" mama cooed to you as mami rubbed your back "and look everyone is here and safe" mama said lifting you slightly and showing you everyone that had gathered around
"Where's oni?" You asked after doing a checklist of everyone and not seeing her "and and baby mateo" you said and your mums saw how you were getting stressed
"Onas in recovery do you wanna go see her and im sure Irene could phone mateo for you" mami said glancing at Irene who nodded and pulled her phone out her pocket
"Wanna see oni" you said as you dropped your head onto your mamas shoulder as she and mami walked with you to the recovery room
"Look there's oni" mami said as soon as the three of you walked into the room which caught onas attention
"Hey bebita, have you been crying?" She said walking over to you as you just nodded and reached out your hands to make sure she was real as she accepted you. You touched her face, squeezing her cheeks and poking her nose which made you giggle slightly before determining she was ok as you have her a sloppy kiss before your mami took you this time and you waved bye to Ona as you left.
"Hey I have Lucia on FaceTime with mateo whenever you guys are ready" Irene informed your mums as you walked up to her and she handed the phone to mama
"Mateo?" You whispered before his face popped up on the screen and he waved "your ok?" You asked and he nodded "no monster bites?" You asked as he shook his head and you nodded "ok" you sighed, relieved as mateo was one of your best friends to play with when he came to training
"No monsters" he reiterated as you nodded again before waving bye to him and his other mami.
"You feeling better bebita?" Mami asked and you nodded as she kissed your forehead and mama handed Irene back her phone
"Who do you want cuddles with for the rest of training?" Mama asked as you thought for a minute before deciding you wanted cuddles with Vicky who was your newest best friend and you wanted to show her that you loved having her here
"Vicky" you said as mama nodded and went to ask the young player who a few seconds later came bounding over as you scrambled to get out of your mamis arms and into Vicky's. You instantly relaxed into her and she relaxed knowing you were as she wasn't very well trained in holding babies but you seemed fine so she didn't think she was that bad.
surprise | c.b
colby brock x reader
summary: colby plans a surprise party for y/n while she thinks he’s working
idea from my bestie @wildestwords 🫶🏻
a/n: not my best work but I was in a writing mood so I just wanted to post a cute little fic :) I hope you like!
“Do you have to go?” you whined, reaching across the bed for Colby.
“Unfortunately,” he groaned, kissing your forehead one last time before standing up.
“But it’s my birthdaaaaay,” you tease, laughing at yourself. You knew Colby had to work tonight, and he had a super important video to film tonight.
Thankfully, as you got older, you didn’t care for your birthday much anyway. You were sort of looking forward to ordering take out, hanging out in your sweats and watching movies all day.
“We’ll celebrate tomorrow, I promise,” he grinned, ruffling your hair lovingly before leaving the room to finish getting ready.
You got out of bed yourself, smoothing out your hair in the mirror. One year older. You felt good, grateful to be where you were today.
You saw Colby out the door, smiling as you watched him drive off. Now, it was time to relax.
*
“Okay guys,” Colby said as he walked into the door of the party location. “She didn’t suspect anything, she thinks we’re doing haunted house stuff.”
“Perrrrfect,” Sam smirked, rubbing his hands together in anticipation.
“So we have everyone coming at 7, I’m gonna call y/n a bit after that and act like something went wrong and we need her help,” Colby explained. “Then we’ll surprise her when she walks in.”
“Decoration time?” Sam asked, lifting an eyebrow.
“Decoration time,” Colby confirmed with a nod of his head.
*
You held your chop sticks and your Chinese takeout box, legs crossed on the couch. The throw blanket was wrapped over your shoulders and you ate happily as you watched some romcom you stumbled across on Netflix.
You heard your phone ringing in the other room, and jumped up to go catch it in time. You forgot you left it on the kitchen counter. You frowned slightly when you saw it was Colby. You almost never heard from him when he was working.
“Hey,” you answered, leaning against the counter.
“Hey babe,” you heard Colby breathing heavily. “I don’t want to worry you but I need you to come here.”
“What?” you asked. “Are you okay? What happened?”
“We need help,” he replied. “Can you please come?”
“Of course, Colby,” you said, slightly panicked as you rushed to clean up all your stuff while still on the phone. “Just send me the address, I’m on my way.”
“I love you,” Colby said gently.
“I love you too, baby, I’m coming,” you told him.
He hung up, and you put your take out in the fridge, turned off the tv, and kicked off your slippers. You pulled on a jacket and your shoes and grabbed your car keys as you rushed out the door.
The March air caught your breath as you stepped outside, the bite of the night air unexpected. You rubbed your hands together for warmth once you sat in the car. Only for a second, before pulling out of the driveway.
You followed the GPS, happy when you realized it was only 15 minutes away. This was one time you were especially grateful Sam and Colby picked somewhere nearby. Usually, you were too far away to be of any help.
When you pulled up to the house, you noticed a red light glowing from inside the house. It immediately gave you the creeps, even though you knew it was definitely done on purpose for the video.
You jumped out of the car, not even locking it as you jogged to the door and threw it open. You saw Colby lying on the ground, Sam crouched beside him.
“Colby!” you exclaimed, running over to him and crouching next to Sam. You grabbed his hand in yours. “What happened?”
“I-I fell,” Colby groaned, wincing in pain. “Can you go grab me my sweater?”
“Of course!” you exclaimed, standing up to go grab his sweater.
It was the perfect distraction for Colby to get up off the floor, and signal the others.
“Surprise!!!” you heard from a roomful of voices, making you scream before laughing.
“Oh my god!!!” you screamed, covering your face.
You saw all of your friends, even some from your hometown, all here to celebrate you. You cursed yourself for not dressing better on your special day, but you were too happy to care.
You turned back around, seeing Colby standing there with a massive grin on his beautiful face.
“You did this for me?” you asked, tears forming in your eyes.
“I did,” he nodded. “Did you really think I’d make you celebrate your birthday alone?”
You ran over to him, wrapping your arms around him tightly. You didn’t know how you got so lucky.
“I assume you were the true brains of the operation?” you asked, as you turned to Sam, pulling him into your arms too.
“I’d like to think so,” he shrugged. “The decorations were all mine.”
You smiled as you saw the big balloons, flowers, and a big poster full of pictures of you and all the people you loved.
You went around hugging all your friends, still not believing that they were here.
You walked up to your childhood best friend, smothering her in the tightest hug imaginable. She hugged you back just as tight.
“I can’t believe you’re here,” you said into her shoulder, your smile hurting your cheeks because it was so wide.
“I wouldn’t miss it for the world,” she told you, putting her hands on either side of your face. “You really have a keeper on your hands.”
“I do, don’t I?” you asked, looking back to Colby, who to your surprise, was already looking at you.
“You have to marry him,” she teased you, pushing your shoulder playfully. “Otherwise you’re stupid.”
“That’s the plan,” you winked, wrapping your arm around her shoulders.
“What even is this place?” you laughed as you turned back to Colby. “Is it actually haunted?”
“No,” he laughed. “It’s just someone’s house they had for rent.”
“Only you,” you laughed. “It’s nice though.”
Your best friend left to the kitchen then promptly walked out with a cake in her hands, singing to you. Everyone else joined in and you couldn’t help but blush before blowing out the candles.
You couldn’t think of a wish, because everything you wanted was already right there in front of you.
*•.¸♡Summary: You had never looked so good, why did you have to wear his clothes? Why did you have to be so annoying?
or
Your mission to annoy Kung Lao takes a different turn after you steal his clothes and his bed
*•.¸♡Words: 3.6k
You hadn’t exactly planned to spend your night like this. You sat on the couch in the living room, flipping mindlessly through the pages of a book. After a lovely dinner at Madame Bo’s, but honestly, they were all lovely, just before you could order dessert for the two boys a girl had swept Raiden off his feet, suggesting she’d pay for his dessert if she could spend the rest of the night with him, and, as Kung Lao put it left you both for dead. The walk back to your small home was gruelling, Kung Lao complaining the whole time about he was the one that was meant to be swept off his feet.
You closed the book and tossed it on the small table, huffing as you threw your head back to stare at the ceiling. Once you got home Kung Lao had locked himself in his room, still sulking. You turned your head to stare at his door, spend the night bored on the couch or annoy Kung Lao for your own entertainment. The answer was clear, and you kicked yourself off the couch, walking to his door.
You knocked twice before opening it. Kung Lao sat on the bed, weaving the loose bit of straw back into his hat. “Are you done being a baby?” Your voice was teasing as you leant against the wall.
His hands stopped and he scoffed. “I’m not being a baby,” Kung Lao huffed, staring up at you.
“Sure you aren't,” You rolled your eyes and closed the door behind you as you walked to his set of draws.
“And what are you doing?”
You trifled through the draws for a few moments before pulling one of Kung Lao’s long grey shirts. You turned back to him and shrugged. “My bed’s crap and you know it.”
“So? Go sleep in Raiden’s.”
You laughed silently and turned away, pulling off the shirt you had worn to work earlier that day. Kung Lao’s eyes widened as you so shamelessly stripped in front of him, the bare skin of your back so clearly on display. You shook your head and laughed at Kung Lao’s suggestion, “So Raiden can come back with his lady friend and I give him a heart attack? No thank you.”
You pulled Kung Lao’s shirt over your head and turned back to face him, who still stared so shamelessly. “Move over.”
“You just stole my shirt!” Kung Lao complained, his eyes lifting to meet yours. You placed a hand on your hip and raised an eyebrow.
Kung Lao sighed. He hung his hat on the bed frame and shuffled closer to the edge of the bed, making room for you. You pulled the blanket back and slipped in beside him. You rested your head against his shoulder, your hands moving with the end of the blanket. You nudged Kung Lao’s side, waiting for him to wrap his arm around you, as he had done before when you would disturb his daytime naps.
You nudged him again, this time digging your elbow into his side. “Hey! What was that for?”
“What’s up with you?” Kung Lao hummed in confusion, his eyebrows furrowing. “You’re never this upset, it’s not even upset, you're just acting weird.”
Kung Lao scoffed, trying to hide it with a chuckle. “I’m not being weird.”
“Yes you are.” You prodded his side again, getting an annoyed sound out of Kung Lao. “What’s up with you?”
“Nothing.” Another poke.
“Hey-” Another poke.
“I mean it.” Another poke.
“Seriously, cut it out.”
You moved to poke him again, but he seized your wrists, his hands fitting around them perfectly as he pushed you back against the bed. He climbed on top of you, his thighs pinning your legs against the bed. “I said cut it out,” His voice dropped slightly and your heart hammered against your chest.
You tried to pull your hands from his grip, but his hands only tightened. “Get off me,” You huffed, your head dropping back against the pillows.
“Nope, this suits me quite nicely.” Kung Lao shook his head, a teasing smile taking over his face. You tried to wiggle out of his hold, your hips trying to shuffle back and your legs rubbed against him. One of Kung Lao’s hands shot down to grip your side, pushing you back against the bed and holding you still. “Don’t move like that.” His voice was breathy as his head dropped. You couldn't see his eyes, but by the way his eyebrows pinched you could tell they were screwed shut.
“What’s up with you?”
“Me?” Kung Lao laughed softly. “You just stripped in front of me, climbed into my bed and then grinded against me.” Your eyes winded and a soft breath passed your lips. “Not to mention you're wearing my shirt and it looks too goddamn good on you.”
Your cheeks burned in realisation. “Oh.”
You tried to slide back but his grip on your side tightened and you were thankful he wasn't looking anymore otherwise he would have seen your teeth sink into your lip to keep quiet. His hand loosened and he took a soft breath. “Just don’t move.”
“Why?”
Kung Lao dipped his head closer to yours, eyes dancing across your face but kept moving back to your lips. “Cause if you move I’m gonna kiss you and I’m not gonna stop.”
“Kiss me then.”
Kung Lao shook his head, his eyes moving from your face and this time you stared at him. The dip of his nose, his soft lips and his tongue that shot out to swipe across his pink lips. His eyes moved back to yours and your gaze fixed on his dark coffee eyes. “I’m not messing around,” He said, his voice dropping again.
You shook your head and your eyes drifted back to his lips. “Neither am I.” His grip loosened enough and you slipped one of your hands from his and traced the line of his cheekbone. You pulled him closer, and you raised your head off the bed, your nose crushing ever so slightly against his. “Kiss me Kung Lao.”
His eyes scanned over your face once more before dipped his head down to yours, connecting your lips and kissing you feverishly. His hand glided up your side, raising goosebumps across your skin as his fingers found your jaw, tipping your head up, his lips pressing harder against yours. Your teeth nipped his bottom lip, pulling a soft gasp from him. You slipped your tongue through his lips and he tried to pull you impossibly closer.
He shifted his hips, his thigh moving between yours to press his knee against you. A whine tore itself from your throat and your head fell back against the bed. You moved your hips against his knee and Kung Lao made a sound of approval as his lips trailed down your jaw and across your throat. His name fell from your lips in a soft moan and his knee worked harder against you.
“You sound so fucking pretty,” his words vibrated against your throat.
You hand tugged at the collar of his shirt and he lifted his head. “Take your clothes off, please.” Kung Lao complied, sitting back on his knees and pulling his shirt off. You pushed yourself up, your nails running across his abs as your lips attached to his throat, biting and sucking dark marks into his soft skin.
He pulled back for a moment to slip out of his pants and while you pulled your shirt over your head. He stood over you, his hands moving to hold your face as he kissed you softly. “You wanna stop, just tell me okay?”
“Don’t want you to stop,” You mumbled against his lips.
“Fucking hell angel.” He knelt by the bed, his large hand wrapping around your thighs and pulled you closer. He pressed small kisses to your thighs, nipping at your skin and leaving marks behind.
His hands trailed up your inner thighs, slipping under your shots and brushing against the soft fabric of your panties. “You don’t have to,” Your words trembled as his hands continued to tease too close to where you needed him.
“I want to, have to.” He pulled back to pull your shorts and underwear off at once. “I’m the best you’re gonna have, gotta prove it.” His hand trailed up your legs again, one hand moving to swipe through your folds. Your wetness clung to his fingers and he hummed, a cocky smile spreading across his cheeks. “Didn’t know I got you so worked up.”
“Don’t be a bitch, Kung Lao.”
He laughed and pressed a kiss to your navel, his lips dragging against your skin as his kisses grew lower. His name fell from your lips and his grip tightened, pulling you suddenly against his mouth. Your head fell back against the bed with a loud moan as his tongue began to lap at your pussy. He pulled your legs onto his shoulders, your hips angling so every time he moved his head his nose pressed against your clit.
Your hips moved to grind against his face but he held you tightly, stopping your squirming. Kung Lao chuckled against your clit, the vibrations running through you. Your hands shot down to his head, weaving your fingers through his hair to pull him closer against you. He finally released your hips to squeeze your thighs that had locked against his face.
His strong tongue pressed against you, slipping over your entrance. The movements made you squirm and tremble as his name lipped from your lips, melding into your pleas and moans. You rolled your hips against his mouth, searching for more as your clit rolled against his tongue.
Kung Lao’s hands dragged up your side, raising goosebumps at the slow touch. The soft whine that left your lips made his stomach tighten and made his cock twitch. He pressed his face further into your wet cunt, taking everything you gave him.
You could feel your end nearing, writhing against Kung Lao’s tongue as pressed harder against you. Then one his hands slid away and his fingers were at your entrance, gathering your slick on his fingers before gently prodding at your hole. A needy whine pours from your lips and Kung Lao chuckles, the vibrations running through you. His fingers slid inside you, your walls clenching around his as his fingers pressed against parts of yourself you could never reach.
“Kung Lao,” Your voice was shallow and shaky as you called for him, trying to hold onto whatever control you had over yourselves. “Please, need more.”
“Not yet.” His reply was quick and muffled, still focused on the way your pussy pulsed around his fingers. “Need you to cum, need you to make a mess.”
His fingers curled inside you and your grip on his hair tightened, your breathing quicking as you tiptoed around the edge. His fingers sped up, becking you closer to the edge but it was the light graze of his teeth against your clit that had you cumming, your cunt clenching on his fingers like a vice.
His hand still, gently grinding his fingers against your clit as he brought his head up, his own breath doubled as he panted softly. Your hands slid from his hair, falling to your sides as you tried to catch your breath, the shocks from your orgasm still burning with hot pleasure. Carefully Kung Lao removed his hand and stood, leaning over you, one hand pressed into the mattress.
“You still with me?” Kung Lao teased, his forehead pressing against yours. You hummed lazily and grabbed his jaw, pulling him into a slow kiss. You only broke away when your hand grabbed his wrist, pulling his hand still coated in your juices towards your mouth. His eyes singled on your mouth as your lips wrapped around his fingers sucking him clean. He cursed, his dick jumping at the sight.
You gently pushed him back and stood on uneasy legs. He looked down at you, towering over you as your fingers traced his skin. You spun the both of you around and pushed him onto the bed. He landed on his back and quickly pushed himself onto his elbows. “What’re you doing baby?” You crawled back onto the bed, your leg swinging over his, your bare pussy landing on his still covered cock. His head dropped back slightly, the thin material doing little to hide how wet you were. “Fuck… you’re so warm.”
Your hips ground hard against his, his cock twitching and his elbows gave out. His head fell back groaning at the feeling but it turned into a soft whine as you slid back, pulling his underwear down. You tossed them aside and crawled back up his body, pulling him into a quick kiss before trailing kissed down his throat.
You reached for his heavy cock, pumping slowly. His breath hitched as your hand worked his long, thick cock, your hand so small against him. You sat straight, lining his cock at your entrance, your walls sucking in the tip so quickly it made Kung Lao let a breath moan. A soft whine of your name passed his lip as his hands came to your hips to pull you down but you slapped his hand softly. “Ah, what was that for?” He tried to sound menacing but his voice was so shaky.
You fared no better. The tip of his dick stretched you so well, pleasure and pain mixing in a seering burn that you couldn't help but love. Your hips lowered ever so slightly, your head rolling back as you gripped his wrist for support. “You’re so big, need to go slow,” Your voice was hushed, trying to hide the whines on the tip of your tongue.
Kung Lao chuckled softly, “You flatter me angel.” One of his hands left your hip to race light circles on your clit, trying to relax you to let him slip deeper. You leaned forward, taking a few more inches as you kissed him again. It barely counted as a kiss, messy and disorganised as you tried to distract yourself from the burn in your thighs. “You’re so fucking tight,” Kung Lao whispered, his lips moving to nip at your jaw. “Your tight, wet pussy stretching around me. Feels so good. I’m not even fully in you yet.”
Your eyes fluttered as his cock slipped deeper, your pelvis finally meeting his. He held your hips tight against his, pushing you back and forth slightly to grind you against his cock. The feeling of his cock pressing against your gummy walls had your eyes rolling back, needy whines escaping you as each roll of your hips. His cock knocked something so deep inside you, a long moan filling the room, “Fuck… can feel you- so good.” He didn’t know if it was the whines in your voice or the praise that spurred him on but his hips bucked up, trying to chase you. Another moaned sentence of how good you felt, how good he was fucking you fell from your lips, almost incoherent but the way your head dropped against his neck and hips stutted- Fuck!
Kung Lao grabbed your hips, rolling you underneath him. He pulled your highs up onto his hips, the angle of his cock shifting to press against your most sensitive spot. You clenched around him as he started to rock his hips deep inside you. “Fuck, so good.” His hand ran up your arm and to your hand to lace his fingers through yours, feeling you grip his hands so slightly.
His grip on your hip tightened as his thrusts sped up, his pelvis hitting your clit as his cock reached so deep inside you. Your free hand held onto his back, your nails nipping his skin as his cock snapped harder against you, drilling into you like he was made for it. His cock dragged along your walls, cum creaming at the base of his dick as he fucked into you, lost in the promise of his own orgasm.
Your walls pulsed around him feeling so full as his cock rammed harder against you. Your nails ran down his back, leaving marks in his skin as you tried to ground yourself but your second orgasm was quickly approaching. “Lao-” Your voice cut short as Kung Lao pulled your hip higher onto his, your knee bending slightly.
“Gonna make me cum if you keep sayin’ my name like that baby,” Kung Lao whined against your neck. You turned your head to attach your lips to his, pulling him closer as you lost yourself in the pleasure, your pussy fluttering around him. He chuckled softly against your lips, his grip on your hand tightening, “You gon’ cum for me angel? Can feel you squeezing me tight.”
“Please,” You squeaked, your voice cracking, “Please.” His hand slipped from your leg to rub harsh and fast circles into your clit, needing to pull another orgasm from you before he would let himself go. You tried to warn him that your high was here but you couldn't form a sentence, babbling nonsense as he drew you closer to the edge.
Kung Lao pressed a final, heavy, hot kiss to your lips, “Cum for me, make a mess baby.” The pressure inside you snapped, your orgasm washing over you like a tidal wave. Your nails dug into his skin and your thighs squeezed his hips, trying to hold him close against you but his thrusts continued, fucking you through the plesure.
He cursed, his grip hard enough that it would leave bruises. The squeeze of your tight walls against his sensitive cock made his head spin and his abs tighten, his own high clawing up his spine. He continued his thrusts but they grew sloppy, his hips instinctively bucking inside you.
He tried to pull away but legs pulled him back in. You could barely form a sentence, your voice drowned in whines and moans, your mind lost to the blinding pleasure pulsing through you, “Pl- please! Need to feel you, need all- all of you!”
His head dropped to your shoulder, moaning softly as the tight feeling in his stomach let go, a pleasure that made his eyes screw shut taking over his body. He stilled against you, grinding his hips into yours to draw out both your orgasms.
Kung Lao stopped his movements but was reluctant to move away from you, wanting to stay as close as possible. He pressed a few sweet kisses to your shoulder before he pushed his head from your shoulder, looking down at you. “You still mad I stole your shirt?” You teased, a soft chuckled playing at your lips.
Kung Lao shook his head, “Keep stealing my shirts and you’ll end up like this every night.”
“That’s not as threatening as you think it is.” Kung Lao laughed, pressing a soft kiss to your lips before he pulled out, the both of you hissing at the feeling. Kung Lao helped you sit before cleaning you off, pressing soft kisses to the marks he left.
Kung Lao tossed you your clothes before pulling on his own pants. You reached for the grey shirt making Kung Lao laugh, “If you wanted round two you could have asked.” Kung Lao leaned over you, his hands pressing to either side of your body.
“Maybe I’m saving it for another time,” You teased, a smug smile pulling at your lips.
A knock at Kung Lao’s door made you both jump and you scrambled to pull on the shirt as Kung Lao called out a soft yes. Raiden opened the door, looking in but he kept a hand over his eyes as he stepped in. “Are you both done? I could hear you the second I walked in the front door.” Your cheeks burned in embarrassment and Kung Lao chuckled softly.
Raiden carefully took his hand away to look at you both, “Have some humility Lao,” Raiden chastised. “Put a shirt on, I brought dessert.” Raiden turned to close the door but stopped and turned back to Kung Lao, “And is this gonna be a proper thing? Because I think I’d much prefer to hear Kung Lao’s pinning then… that.”
Raiden closed the door without another word and you turned to Kung Lao, a small smile on your lips. “What’s he mean?”
Kung Lao sighed and dropped back against the bed, one hand moving to rest behind his head. “I don’t-” He cut himself off, closing his eyes. You laid next to him, resting your head on his shoulder. “I don’t want this to be a one time thing.”
“You know, I never expected to find someone like you,” you confessed, your fingers twirling his hair that had fallen from his bun.
Kung Lao's eyes crinkled with a hint of amusement, but his nervous tone was still present, "And what kind of someone did you expect?"
You chuckled, "Definitely not someone as incredible as you. I mean, you not only have these killer martial arts moves but also a heart that's surprisingly sweet."
Kung Lao's lips curved into a playful grin, "Well, don't let the hat fool you. It's not just for show."
You swung your leg over his hips, resting on his stomach. His hands immediately went to your hips, just resting there like they belonged. “We can go out tomorrow, talk about… this properly, but Raiden does have desert and that sounds pretty good right now.”
Kung Lao smiled and used one hand to push himself up, the other wrapping around you to keep you planted in his lap. His eyes wandered over your face, pausing on your bruised lips. “And if it wasn’t obvious,” You said softly, your lips drawing closer to his, “I really really like you Kung Lao. Ego and all.”
“Well, that's good, you can keep stealing my shirts then.”
Date Day Pt. 1
Pieces of My Heart - Chapter 16 Stray Kids OT8 x reader, Soulmate AU
Masterlist | Next Part
From the moment you woke up, you felt the need to pee. Your efforts of vacating the bed to make it to the bathroom was made a little complicated by the two sets of arms wrapped around you (and in the case of Jisung, the body currently resting half on top of you), but you managed to make your way out of it by rolling Jisung off of you and in the middle of the small cuddle puddle taking place.
Chan was forced to dislodge his grip on you, but Jisung immediately took advantage of the sudden lack of warmth to latch onto the leader with a soft whine. Chan only cracked open an eye to take stock of the situation, and you gave him a quick thumbs up before running out of the room.
After peeing, you came back to find both guys still asleep and cuddled together. You weren’t tired enough to go back to sleep, so you decided to let them be. You grabbed your phone and made your way out into the living room. You scrolled through your phone for a bit, checking messages and emails and sending a quick message to your parents, only to find out they were still awake.
You decided to call them before they went to bed.
“Hi sweetheart,” Your mom said when she answered.
Your dad peeked his head from the corner of the screen. “Hey, about time you called.”
You pouted. “I’ve been busy!”
“Too busy with those soulmates of yours to say hi to your own father?”
“Daaaad.”
Your mom let out a laugh, pushing away your dad so she was the only one on screen. “Ignore him. He’s just missing you.”
“I miss you guys too,” You told her, and she gave you a soft smile in return.
The two of you chatted, getting caught up on anything new that had happened since you left, which wasn’t much but still made you feel like you had never left at all. It was a comfort to know that the distance wasn’t going to change anything.
It was almost half an hour later that you finally hung up, letting the sudden deafening silence of the dorms wash over you with a sigh. You closed your eyes and leaned back onto the couch, and you must have dozed off because you suddenly jolted awake at the feeling of hands on your cheeks.
“You’re going to hurt your neck if you sleep like this,” Changbin warned you, tilting your head forward.
True to his words, you felt an ache in your neck, and you let out a groan. He allowed you to rest your forehead against his chest as he softly rubbed the muscles in your neck and shoulders, and you were tempted to doze back to sleep at his touch, but there was a soft shuffling sound from the hallway, and you pulled away to see who it was.
Hyunjin looked like he was still half asleep, and you were surprised he was even awake before noon. He practically threw himself onto the couch next to you, immediately pulling you away from Changbin to use you as a pillow. Changbin snorted in amusement.
“What are you doing awake so early?” He wondered, moving out of his squat to stretch his legs.
Hyunjin swiped his hand across your arm and watched through half lidded eyes as it left a trail of inky black that began to quickly fade. “I need time to get ready for our date.”
“The museum doesn’t open until 11,” You pointed out, reaching for your phone. “You have … 4 hours until then.”
“Trust me, he might need more,” Changbin teased.
Hyunjin threw one of the couch pillows at him, but when the rapper dodged, he was left with nothing else to retaliate with, so he quickly gave up. Changbin snickered, making his way towards the kitchen.
You ran your fingers through Hyunjin’s hair for the next few minutes, feeling the dancer slowly relax against you, and while you were tempted to allow him to fall back asleep (really, who needed 4 hours to get ready?), you knew that he would have never woken up this early without reason.
You poked his cheek softly. “Hyunnie.”
“Hmm?”
“C’mon. I thought you wanted to get ready.”
“Mmmm.”
“Want me to make you some coffee?”
At the mention of coffee, Hyunjin seemed to perk up, rising up from his half-slumped state to give you a wide eyed but still slightly glazed look. “Coffee?”
“Way ahead of you,” Changbin said.
He walked out of the kitchen with two cups of coffee. One of them he handed over to the now very much awake blond next to you, and the other he carefully handed to you to make sure it didn’t spill. You gave him a smile, and he allowed you to pull him close enough to press a kiss to his lips in thanks.
When you eventually drifted back towards Chan’s bedroom, you found the leader gone and Jisung hugging a pillow, still completely asleep. You sat down next to him and carted your fingers through his hair, swiping the back of your hand down his cheek, and when he still didn’t stir, you poked him. Nothing. It was only when you whispered his name that Jisung began to stir, blinking slowly as he woke up.
“Wha-?”
“It’s time to get up.”
“Noooo,” Jisung whined, rolling over.
You giggled. “No? What do you mean no?”
“It’s too early!”
“Hmm, maybe you just need some incentive,” You teased, wiggling your fingers menacingly towards his sides.
At the threat of being tickled, Jisung flinched back. You only tickled him for a second as he squirmed before you pulled back, and when youu started to laugh at him, Jisung used the opportunity to roll on top of you, fingers now pressed up against your own sides.
You squealed in warning, trying to throw him off, but Jisung was deceptively strong, his weight pressing down on your stomach and preventing you from pushing him off. Instead, you tried to swat his hands away from your body, but he just grabbed your wrists and pinned them to the bed.
“Not so fun when it’s you, huh?”
You let out another yelp as he managed to hold both of your arms down with one hand, and started to tickle. You let out a yell for help in between laughs, but Jisung pressed his lips against yours to silence you. You snorted so hard that it hurt your throat, and he pulled away with a laugh of his own.
“Chan! Chan, help!”
“Chan won’t be able to help you now,” Jisung teased.
You gasped. “Chan?! No honorifics?!”
“I’m not scared of him.”
“Scared of who?”
Chan walked in with messy hair and a confused look on his face. No longer tickling you, you were sure the two of you made quite the sight, Jisung still on top of you and your faces inches apart, but he didn’t seem bothered at the sight. Or maybe he wasn’t worried about interrupting, since all you could feel was amusement, fondness, and glee that he could no doubt identify himself.
Jisung froze at the sight of his Hyung, and you let a smirk slowly grow across your face. “Hey Channie. Want to hear something really funny?”
“Nope!”
Jisung threw himself off you and ran out of the room before you could snitch on him, and you let out another giggle as his once tough bravo disappeared so easily. Chan, still confused, walked over and sat down on the edge of the bed.
“Did you call for me earlier?”
“Ah, don’t worry about it.”
“Hmm.”
He motioned for you to move over, and he laid down next to you with a sigh. You lay on your side, and Chan turned his head so that he could look at you, one brow raising in amusement. “Can I help you?”
“You’re pretty when you wake up,” You murmured, reaching out to flatten part of his hair that was sticking up. “Messy, but cute.”
“You’re cuter,” He corrected, and he turned his face away so you couldn’t see his face, but you had a feeling he was blushing. “You’re going with Hyunjin and Felix to the museum today, right?”
“Yup. We don’t have to leave for a while though, we can have breakfast together.”
“Sure. I’m planning on heading to the studio today.”
“Never a day off in your life, is there?”
Chan rolled over so that you were now facing each other, and he placed his hand against your cheek. “You ever want to spend a day off with me, all you have to do is ask, sweetheart.”
“Charmer,” You drawled, pressing a kiss to his palm. You then pushed his hand away so you could sit up, stretching your arms above your head.
“Guess we should get up.”
“Yeah. You want to take a shower first?”
“Nah, you go first. I’m going to get started on breakfast.”
“Okay.”
Chan watched you with fond eyes as you leaned in close to press a kiss to his lips, and you found yourself lingering a little longer than you should have. What was supposed to be a quick peck ended up turning into a full-blown make-out session, your hands holding you up as you hovered above him, lips moving softly against one another while his own palms burned against your hips, thumbs rubbing circles against your skin. You only managed to force yourself away when his phone began to buzz.
He chased your lips and you let out a laugh. “You should answer that.”
“Hmm, I really should.”
One last kiss, this time for real, and you were out the bedroom door before you could convince yourself to skip breakfast and spend the morning in bed with Chan. Jisung nearly bumped into you as you passed by the bathroom, his hair wet from his freshly finished shower, and you steadied him as you walked past, preventing yourself from getting distracted again.
By the time you managed to scrap something together for breakfast, all 4 of the boys had gotten ready and joined you at the table, although Hyunjin remained in his overly expensive looking pajamas, claiming he didn’t want to ruin the ‘surprise’ of his date outfit.
The effort was nice, but it was a bit ruined when Felix showed up shortly after you all finished, looking like he had just finished a photoshoot. While his outfit was fairly casual, a soft blue sweater vest over a long-sleeved white button down that was tucked into his jeans, he somehow managed to make it look elegant.
If your mouth was left hanging for longer than socially acceptable when you opened the door, he didn’t mention it, although the way he smirked let you know he was more than aware.
“You’re early,” You finally mentioned, accepting his hug after you finished ogling him.
“I had something I wanted to talk to Chan about,” He said, glancing over his shoulder. “Speak of the devil.”
Chan gave Felix a once over as he joined the two of you at the entrance. “I want her back by 10,” He joked, and you rolled your eyes at the two of them.
“Yes, sir,” Felix said, playing along.
“Oh my god, you two.” You held back a laugh. The two Aussies shared a laugh of their own, and you pushed past them to the door. “Okay, that’s my cue to leave.”
“Hey, me and Jinnie will pick you up in an hour,” Felix reminded you.
“I know this is supposed to be a date, but you don’t actually have to pick me up at my front door you know.”
“Aww, does this mean I won’t get my end of the date kiss?” He teased.
“Well, if a kiss is what you’re aiming for, I’m afraid you’ve been beaten by, like, half of the members,” You said, giving Chan a side eye.
Felix gasped in fake shock. “They kissed you without dinner first? How scandalous.”
Now it was Chan’s turn to roll his eyes, and you took the cue to leave the boys to whatever it was they needed to deal with. You gave Felix a quick kiss on the cheek before you left.
“One hour.”
You smiled. “See you then.”
Author's note: I kept this series for a really long time not sure if I want to post it or not, but I decided to do it anyway, so I hope you'll like it.
——————————
Another day came. You woke up in velvet sheets that gently wrapped your naked body. You glanced at the empty space next to you. The sheet was already cold, meaning Minho must have been up long ago. You looked at the clock, standing on the nightstand next to the bed. It was reaching twelve o'clock. How long did you sleep? You didn't even know what time you fell asleep. You spent the whole night pleasing each other. Minho loved to bring you to the edge, only to stop touching you a moment later. He then waited for a single word so that you could achieve the desired orgasm.
You sighed quietly. You decided to finally get out of bed. You threw on Minho's shirt, which was lying on a chair, and headed for the kitchen. You looked around in search of the man, but he was nowhere to be found. On the kitchen counter was a plate full of small avocado and tomato sandwiches and a bowl of fruit. Next to them lay a note with a message from Minho - enjoy your meal kitten, I'm at work, I'll be back in the evening.
You smiled slightly, then sat down and began to eat breakfast. After breakfast, you did the dishes and decided to go take a shower. You spent a round hour in the bathroom. After getting out of the bath, you threw on a bathrobe that hung on the wall and looked at your reflection in the mirror. After an intoxicating night, your entire neck was covered with raspberries, left by a man. You even liked the view. You were looking at yourself in the mirror when suddenly she heard the doorbell ring. Curious, you went to answer the door.
When you opened the door a slender, not very tall woman appeared to your eyes. Her blonde hair was tied in a tight bun and her lips were highlighted with red lipstick. Her body was hidden under a fitted red dress that perfectly emphasized her curves. The woman coughed quietly.
“Who are you?” She asked, looking at you. “And what are you doing in my boyfriend's apartment? Where is Minho?”
“Boyfriend?” You frowned hearing those words. Minho had a girlfriend? So with you he just wanted to have fun...?
“Yes, boyfriend.” The woman replied in a slightly more impatient tone. “May I know what you are doing here?”
“Minho invited me and... I just got up recently... What's your name?” You replied a bit confused.
“I don't recall us being on ‘you,’ you brat.” The woman hissed. “Are you finally going to let me into MY BOYFRIEND'S apartment, or should I call the police?”
“Wh-what? No, no... the police will not be necessary...” You stammered slightly and let the unknown woman inside.
“Go get dressed, you punk.” The woman growled as she entered the living room. “And then explain to me what you are doing at MY Lee Know's apartment.”
“Lee Know?” You asked, but actually yourself. You went to Minho's bedroom, where you dressed in your clothes from the previous day, then returned to the mysterious woman sitting in the living room. “Who are you?”
“I already said... are you deaf or what?” The woman replied in a rather prepossessing tone. “I am Minho's girlfriend. Rather, it is you who should tell me who you are and what you are doing in his apartment?”
“I was invited... I came here yesterday. I didn't know Minho had a girlfriend... if I had known, I wouldn't have agreed to...” You started, and your voice began to crack.
“Tssch, sure, you didn't know.” The woman snorted and rolled her eyes. “It's best if you leave and never come back here again. And fuck off with Minho, bitch. Clear?”
“C-clear.” You replied quietly and headed quickly for the exit. You didn't know what to think about the whole situation. You left the man's apartment without saying a word.
You were upset. You felt lost. Why would Minho offer you this deal when he had a girlfriend? You didn't know what to think about all this. Moreover, you had no one to turn to. After all, you couldn't tell your friends about what happened between you and the lecturer. You also couldn't call Jeno or Jungwoo and tell them what happened moments earlier in the man's apartment.
You wanted to cry. You didn't know what you should do now. You headed back to your apartment. Why don't I call him? You thought, however, you decided it was a stupid idea. No... I don't want to talk to him. I should drop our arrangement. After all, we didn't sign any contract anyway...
Suddenly you were overwhelmed by anger. Minho used you to please himself. He treated you like a common hooker - a whore just waiting to get her way. You turned all purple with anger. You felt like screaming at him. To yell at him for what he had done.
Boiling with anger, you decided to go to the university and end your whole relationship there. You didn't even know what you should call what was between you. Or was it nothing but brief sex? You quickly beat a path to the university and went straight to the office where Minho officiated between classes. You knocked sharply on the door and waited for an answer.
“Come in!” You heard from behind the door and impetuously entered the room. “Oh, Y/N what are you doing here? You missed me so much...”
The man didn't finish his sentence, because your hand with a loud splash was on his cheek. He looked at you in surprise. The impact was strong enough to leave a red mark on his face.
“This is the end of everything that happened between us.” You hissed and headed straight for the exit, but before you could cross the threshold, Minho stopped you, squeezing your shoulder hard. He was angry, very angry. A gentle fear was painted on your face. Maybe you shouldn't have hit him right away?
“You're not going anywhere, bunny.” Said Minho in a low voice, and a gentle shiver went through you. “Sit down!” He commanded, and you obeyed. Minho locked the office door and closed the blinds. He looked at you with an angry gaze. “Tell me baby, what's gotten into you, hm?”
“I'm not going to talk to you! I want to end this!” You hissed, putting your hands on your chest. With your behavior, you resembled a five-year-old child who didn't get any candy.
“Is that so?” Minho raised one eyebrow. “At night you whined something different, what happened?” The man stood impassive watching your body language.
“At night I moaned something else, because you forgot to tell me one important detail, that you have a girlfriend... “You growled in annoyance. “Why do you need me if you're in a relationship, huh? You wanted to have fun with an innocent student and...”
“Not so innocent, in the first place.” He interrupted your argument, entering you in mid-sentence. “And I don't have a girlfriend. I also have no idea what you're talking about, and frankly I don't like it.”
“What do you mean you don't have a girlfriend? Then who was the blonde who threw me out of your apartment and wanted to call the police?”
“I have no clue... Oh...” The man sighed heavily and sat down in the chair behind the desk.”
“Oh? That's all you have to say to me?”
“Yes, oh. Minho repeated. “You must have run into Rheena, my ex. She loves to invade me and beg me to come back to her. Normally I don't let her into my apartment, but thanks to you she'll probably sit there and wait until I don't come back.” Minho rubbed his temples and looked at you. “I'm sorry, okay? I didn't expect Rheena to show up again. I understand your anger sun, you know? I wouldn't want to run into a strange woman after such a successful night, either.”
“Tssch, that's not the point.” You hissed. “I want to end this. It doesn't make the slightest sense. Besides, you are my lecturer! We can't drag this on.”
“We can't, can we? And you want to give up so soon, kitten?” He asked with a slightly mocking smile. “Didn't you enjoy the night?” He asked, getting up from behind his desk and walking over to you. He leaned right over you and rested his hands on the arms of the chair and looked you straight in the eyes. Your faces were separated by millimeters. “Look into my eyes and tell me again that you don't want this.”
“I-I...” You lost yourself in his dark brown gaze. Your voice caught in your throat.
“You what?” Minho didn't take his gaze off you. He kept leaning over you, watching. “We both know very well that this is what you want, don't we?”
“Y-yes.” You replied, blushing slightly. You couldn't refuse him, unfortunately.
“Okay... “Minho moved away from you. He rolled up the sleeves of his shirt. You swallowed your saliva, watching his every move. “You were not a good kitty today.” He spoke up after a moment, and a gentle shiver went through you. “And bad kittens face punishment.” He continued.
“P-punishment? But what do you mean?” You asked, slightly frightened by what Minho was planning to do to you.
“Yes. Punishment.” He said looking at you. “Stand up and pull down your pants, then lean on the desk and push yourself out toward me.” He instructed you firmly and walked over to a drawer, from where he pulled out something, like a whip.
“B-but...” You started in surprise. You didn't expect a lecturer to have this type of toy, especially in his office.
“But what, hm? Didn't I make myself clear?” He waited impatiently. “Disobedience must be punished, don't you think?”
“Yes, but...”
“There is no but! Come on, be a good girl. You'll accept 15 spankings, and then I'll make you feel better than good, as long as you're behaving yourself, understand bunny?”
“Yes,” You replied quietly and followed Minho's instructions. You pulled off your pants and put them back on the chair, then leaned against the desk and lunged toward the man. You closed your eyes waiting for the first stroke, but instead of getting a whipping, you felt Minho's hands moving over your firm buttocks. Minho took his time. He patted you gently with his open palm on your left buttock. A slight moan issued from your lips. At this sound, the man smiled slightly. He knew that you liked it, that you liked spanking.
“Count, so that I can hear.” He said firmly. He took a slight swing and the first whip fell on your bare buttocks. You jumped up slightly, not expecting the impact. Minho was not brutal. Yes, you felt a slight burning sensation, but the man did not want to hurt you.
“One.” You said out loud.
Spank.
“Two...”
Spank.
“Three...”
Spank.
“F-four...”
Spank.
“...Five...” The beatings left red marks on your buttocks. Each successive one seemed to be stronger than the previous. This could have been because your skin was becoming more sensitive. By the seventh hit, delicate tear droplets began to appear in the corners of your eyes, but you bravely endured to the end.
“...Fourteen...”
Spank.
“Fifteen!” You groaned. You felt pain on your buttocks, but at the same time a gentle thrill. This was new to you, as you had never faced anything like this before.
“Good kitty.” Said Minho while gently massaging your bottom. “Brave girl.” He smiled stroking your buttocks. “You can stand up.”
You stood upright in front of him. You didn't know what to expect from the lecturer now. The man put the whip back in its place, in the bottom drawer of the desk. You watched his every move as he pulled out a strange, in your opinion, ball from the same drawer.
“Do you know what it is?” He asked, to which you shook your head negatively. “It's a vibrator, on a remote control. The app for it is already on my phone. I promised that if you are a good kitty and take your punishment well, there will be a reward waiting for you.” He handed you the device in your hand. “Do you want to feel how it works?”
“Yes.” You replied, blushing. Curiosity once again took over you.
“Great!” Minho smiled broadly. “Take off your panties and sit in the chair apart, facing me. I want to see you, whole. Put on the vibrator and leave the rest to me.” He instructed.
Without hesitation, you followed the man's instructions. You sat comfortably in the chair. You ignored the slight burning of your buttocks, which were still mildly red, after the punishment Minho had served you. You complied with the lecturer's instructions. You inserted the vibrator and after a moment you noticed Minho pulling out his phone. Then you feel the ball inside you begin to vibrate. Gentle vibrations spread throughout your body. You leaned your head against the headrest of the chair. A quiet moan began to come out of your mouth. The vibrations increased.
Minho watched your reactions closely. How your body began to wriggle under the dose of pleasurable sensations. He smiled in satisfaction. He increased the vibrations, only to decrease them in moments, to give you a rest. He didn't want you to come too soon. He watched every movement of your body. Your hips themselves, as if on cue, began to move in rhythm with the vibrations that spread throughout your body. Your sweet moans perfectly stimulated his senses. He felt a slight tension in his pants. He knew he wouldn't last long on his own. He pulled his penis out of his pants and gently began to stimulate it with his free hand. He masturbated as he watched you drift away in pleasure.
He let you come. And with your orgasm, came his as well. He quickly turned off the vibrator on the app and put the phone back on the desk. He smiled at the sight of you. You lay back in the chair and normalized your breathing. He longed to have that view in front of his eyes forever.
“Did you enjoy it, kitten?” he asked sensually, embracing the mess he himself had created.
“Yes.” You replied slightly hoarsely. You had not yet recovered from your orgasm. Minho walked up to you. His penis stood again. He pulled the vibrator from inside you and leaned slightly over you.
“Ready for round two?” He asked sensually. When you nodded slightly, he slid into you gently. He waited a moment, then began to move. After not long enough, you both ended up in spasms of pleasure. “Good girls get pleasant rewards.” He exhaled quietly. “Will you be a good girl?”
“Yes... I will.”
𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐎𝐈𝐀 | s. geto
02; 10:36
it was finally friday. your classes were done for the week, your assignments were all completed and the forecast said it'd be raining all weekend? you were frankly excited as fuck.
currently you were cuddled in bed with shoko rewatching howl's moving castle for the 15th time. well- you were rewatching it. shoko dozed off 5 minutes ago after she said she was just going to "close her eyes." you allowed her this time, though, because of how tired she seemed this week.
you'd reached the lake when you became unusually parched. while trying your best not to wake your roommate, you wormed out of your sheets and headed for the kitchen.
you chugged 1,2,3 glasses of water, but you weren't satisfied yet. you spun to look at the miffy clock (thank you, iori) that hung above the sink.
10:36 pm.
you sat in thought for a moment. there was a cafe that sold the most refreshing teas, and the location was only a 5 minute walk from the dorms.
ugh, screw it.
you threw on a hoodie over your pajamas, grabbed your keys, and quietly left, not forgetting to write shoko a note in case she woke up (she probably wouldn't).
the air outside was cool but comfortable, the ground wet from the downpour earlier. you couldn't help but take notice of all the slugs and snails that crept and crawled around the damp sidewalk. it was like they were all on a little walk with you too!
after a calm 5 minute walk, you finally saw the cafe sign on your horizon. excitement definitely took over because before you could even notice, your pace quickened and you were inside in no time.
a familiar warmth enveloped you as soon as you entered, with the speakers whispering smooth jazz. you could literally live here. there was also a lack of customers, only a few couples and people typing away at their laptops in the background. no one to disrupt your peace, though.
——————————————————————————————————
it'd been 15 minutes since you ordered your drink and you were still parched and drink less. you understood that working the night shift isn't easy and many of the workers are college students trying to make a few extra dollars, but wow!
you were genuinely getting impatient. with a huff you shot yourself up from your seat. it was as if the universe was on your side, though. because as soon as you made 2 steps, your order was called and placed on the counter.
oh my gosh, yay!
you butterflied over to the counter to receive your drink, thinking nothing more than going home and finishing your movie. in a swift motion, you grabbed for it. but in an even swifter motion, it was taken from you.
your eyebrows furrowed. you really did not have the patience for this tonight. you turned to the culprit, and your annoyance immediately spiked. because there was geto suguru, sauntering over to the door with your drink in hand.
oh hell no
in an instant, you rushed over to the door, placing your body between him and the doorway. he was a bit too slow to notice you, though, and he crashed into you, spilling half of your drink on the floor.
your eyes actually twitched. your blood boiled. you had to bite your tongue from cussing this man out.
"what the fuck? get out the way dumba- wait, y/n?" perplexity danced across his face, as if he was unaware of the crime he'd just committed.
whatever you said next wasn't you and was your anger and thirst speaking.
" "wait, y/n?" " you mocked him, mimicking his confused expression. "yeah, idiot. it's me. shy, little y/n can buy tea too, y'know. I genuinely didn't know I was supposed to stay at home like the fucking hermit I am on a friday night," at this point, you were making a scene, and geto noticed it, but he was too amused to stop you. "oh, and by the way," you point a vengeful finger at the half full drink in the male's hand. "that drink is mine." your chest rose and fell after speaking so much so quickly.
geto quirked an eyebrow as he laughed shallowly. he handed you the cup and watched as your face fell in horror. etched on the cup, in fact, not your name. but 'sugu' with a heart and a phone number written on it, presumably from one of the baristas. to further confirm your horror, you spun around and saw the exact same drink, sitting alone on the counter.
you actually felt tears brimming in your eyes as the reality of the situation fell like bricks on your shoulders. you just embarrassed yourself. in public. for no reason.
"oh! um, haha! this isn't my name!" fake laughter spilled out of your mouth on repeat.
could this night get any worse?
"you know you have to pay for my drink too now, right?"
you looked up and genuinely wished the world would explode right now. you only came with enough money to buy one drink.
"is that really necessary? I mean, it's just tea, amirighthahahaha.." unfortunately, geto's expression was, well, expressionless. any hint of amusement dissipated from his features in an instant. actually, he looked more annoyed than anything.
"you don't have any money, do you?"
"..."
"no." your response came out as a whisper, barely even audible for geto to hear.
"oh, that's a shame. so, i'll be taking yours then?"
what?
"I beg your pardon?" you understood that you did too much, but wasn't this just a tad bit petty?
"I mean, you did spill my drink, it's cold and raining now, and you have no money to pay me back. isn't it only fair?" you were about to cry at this point. you felt defeated.
you could only nod, any words you'd try to speak would have turned to sobs.
and so, geto walked past you, picked up your drink, and sauntered right out the door, sparing you not a glance in the process. you could hear the downpour outside when he opened and closed the door.
this is great!
you didn't even have an umbrella, and you were definitely not asking geto for a ride home after that performance. so, you bit the bullet and sprinted home, nearly slipping a few times. your eyes were cloudy from your tears mixed with the raindrops. by the time you returned to your dorm, your hair and clothes were soaked, your eyes were puffy and red, and it pained you to even breathe.
maybe you really should've just settled for some water.
Something silly I thought about the spill & skill au is the idea of Sophist and Vern bonding and asking each other about their crushes. Sophist tells Vern embarrassing stuff about Nick from when they were kids and Vern tells Sophist silly anecdotes from their time working together in the cafe. And of course they use that to tease their respective crushes later on.
-🖋️
Ohh yess Pen that's wonderful! (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.) This concept will definitely be included into the Story!! I just have to think of fitting stuff, especially with Nick as a kiddo.
Have this very small thing as thanks ^-^
(tw for a slight burn from hot liquid. No big description but just in case! Just red n slightly swollen)
Eat up, Skill & Spill fans!! /hj
---
Nick picked Vernias up after his work at the King's Roast and walked him to the dance studio Vernias usually jogged to after his shifts.
"By the way, Nick, what happened to Catalina?"
"What?" Nick sipped on his favourite drink as they walked, keeping eye contact while doing so. "Who is that?"
"Oh you know, the stuffed dog plush you'd never leave the house without?"
Nick stopped in his tracks. "How do you even-" Nick groaned, annoyed and out of frustration. "Do I have to watch over Sophist whenever he talks to you?!" Vernias giggled.
"Why? I think it's cute you had your little dog protect you. I especially love the story about Hallowee-" "Vernias, I swear to God: do not finish that sentence." The pink-haired one only giggled some more, while Nick wanted to slam his head into the nearest wall or tree.
"Did Catalina watch little Nick when he was on the toilet~?" "I- VERNIAS."
Some passengers turned their heads towards them. Vernias laughed as he held his stomach.
Later that day in the evening, they hung out in Nick's apartment.
Nick looked through a big carton box that had "Old Stuff" written on its side with a black marker.
The taller man mumbled to himself as he searched the box and Vernias watched him from Nick's bed. He lay comfortably on his stomach between some cushions as he observed Nick, admiring him quietly.
"There she is!" Nick exclaimed, holding up a yellow plush dog that looked like it could tell stories from the war and had more life experience than Vernias.
"Oh my God, I forgot how cute she is! Look at the little Fella!" The older one wiggled the stuffed animal around and Vernias could only smile softly at the sight. Any teasing comment he could say to mock Nick vanished from Vernias' mind as he watched Nick beaming with the stuffed dog in his hands.
"... So that is the legendary Catalina?"
"The one and only!"
----Brent's day off, around lunchtime, at Brent's apartment---
Zelda respawned after Brent took the second stock of her life. Eevee muttered a curse, focused on the screen. Brent moved his leg a little bit, slightly touching Eevee's unconsciously, while trying to win another round of Smash Bros.
"Did it hurt?" Eevee asked softly but sounded almost too nonchalant as he dodged a combo from King K. Rool.
"What?" Brent's shoulders loosened slightly.
"Did it hurt when you burned yourself yesterday? The spilled cappuccino?" It was supposed to sound like a mock, an unexpected tease. The words came out like nothing close to that, at all.
King K. Rool lost his first stock. The question was thrown into the room out of the blue - like Zelda's deadly attack that sent him flying to the left side of the screen.
Vernias liked to talk too much. A chance to embarrass Brent? A chance Vernias loved to have and would always take.
"I'm fine-" "Not what I asked."
Silence. Nothing but the sound of their fingers pressing buttons.
"Goddamn it!" Zelda got knocked out again and Eevee threw his arms into the air while the younger one smirked slightly in triumph.
The screen showed King K. Rool striking his victory pose. Eevee turned to Brent.
"Did you cool it?"
Brent sighed.
"Yes. I'm fin-"
"Can I see?"
Brent sighed again.
Without a word, without trying to deflect or simply refuse Eevee's request, Brent put his controller down next to him on the couch and pulled his sleeve up.
The area where the hot and steaming cappuccino met his skin was visible; red and slightly swollen.
No one said a single word, neither of them made the smallest noise. Eevee took Brent's arm into both of his hands, careful not to touch the slightly burned areas of his skin.
Brent didn't flinch, withdraw his arm or pull away.
Eevee wanted to kiss Brent's arm.
He wanted to help the injury heal faster.
Just like Eevee always desired to make Brent smile instead of having him look so tired.
Not just sleep-deprived-tired. Tired of everything.
Eevee didn't.
The older one only looked at Brent's arm and the slight combustion like it was something interesting to study.
Brent was something interesting to study.
"Have you been too clumsy again or just too sleepy as always?" Eevee teased, but his tone was slightly off.
Brent pulled back gently and covered his arm with his sleeve again.
"Shut up, Eevee."
Game #6-Fever Dream
Game 1 Game 2 Game 3 Game 4 Game 5 Game 6 Game 7 Game 8 Game 9
Alastor's POV! Omg, this was my first time writing in his POV so he might be ooc or something, but I tried. I'm super excited for this one.
After Mimzy left and Alastor ate some loan sharks, I found myself at the bar. Husk and I didn’t talk about what happened earlier and I don’t think either of us wanted to. Angel joined me eventually with an enthusiactic yell of “Let’s drink our tragic hearts out!”
At least that got a laugh out of me. I don’t know how it happened but I started spilling everything to him. All about how my father kept my mother at home all the time like a trophy and how he would intentially start conflicts just to see my mother lose her shit. I told him about how he would be sweet in the intervals so she wouldn’t leave him and about how Alastor was giving me extreme deja vu in those cases.
“How much alchohol did you drink?” Angel asked incredously after I was done. “You never share nothing about yourself.”
I shrugged not exactly sure myself. “You wanna talk?” I asked, knowing damn well everyone here had a shitty time. I swirled the liquid in my cup.
He told me about Valentino and how stupid he was for accepting that sort of deal and how tired he was of all the sex. He told me about how Fat Nuggets, his pig, was the only comfort he had anymore.
“Guess we’re both a little drunk” I answered his previous comment as he finished venting. A ghost of a smile graced my lips.
I think out of all the hotel residents, I definitely liked Angel the most. We bid each other goodbye and I staggered upstairs to my room. I didn’t make it, stopping halfway there and leaning against the wall for support as I fought the nausea.
There was a reason I never drank alcholol. Years of avoiding it just gave me an intolerance for it. I pressed a hand to my head, the edges of my vision blurring.
I shouldn’t have drank so much.
I found myself crumpling to the ground as two red and black shoes entered my vision. “Alastor?”
“My, my, what a mess you’ve made of yourself! And here I thought you had some dignity.” His radio voice rang out, doing nothing to ease my headache. God, was his voice always this disorienting?
It felt like the floor was spinning beneath me. Suddenly, I found myself in Alastor’s arms, my stomach doing flips as he carried me like a sack of potatoes.
“Can you-” I gasped. I’m going to throw up. “Can you be more gentle?” I gritted out, trying not to spill my guts on his pristine suit. He shifts a little so he’s holding my bridal style instead, and suddenly I wished I threw up on him.
I don’t know if it was the alcohol or what, but he looked beautiful. Those half-lidded crimson eyes, and those fluffy ears stole my heart. I bet I was looking up at him like an absolute idiot with my mouth hung open. I might even have been drooling.
His smile on the other hand, infuriated me. Why the fuck is he deriving pleasure and amusement from my ailing state? Why is he holding me? I don’t understand. I can’t think.
He opened a door and I found myself staring at a swamp. Alastor’s room. I remember it from throwing cotton everywhere. I could still see some bits and pieces of white stuck in the trees.
The change in atmostphere had me dizzy.
He sat me down on the bed. Gently. I stared at him. What in the actual fuck was going on here?
“Oh, don’t look at me like that! You should be grateful—who else would bother hauling your sorry self up here?”
His voice came floating to me. My eyes widened as a realized the absence of radio static. I think I might still be crumpled in the hallway, just having a fever dream of some kind, because there’s no way THE radio demon let me hear his real voice.
I found myself drifting off to sleep to the sound of Alastor’s ramblings. I couldn’t understand a thing he said, but his voice was enough to soothe me. Pure, and unfiltered. Even if it was just a dream, I enjoyed it.
Alastor’s POV
When I found the poor soul slumped in the hallway, barely able to stand, I had a decision to make. I could leave her there, let her wallow in her misery… but that would be far too dull.
Why leave her there when I could drag her back with me and have a little fun? She’s pissed me off too many times to count. And yet she’s still alive. She knows things she shouldn’t. I’ll kill her eventually. But where’s the fun in that? A cat always plays with its food first.
There’s nothing more delightful than the sight of suffering. The dried tears on her face only made it sweeter. I grinned down at her as I held her in my arms.
Oh! Look at that! She’s gazing at me so sweetly. It’s almost as if she’s in love. Poor thing.
After placing her down on the bed I couldn’t help the comment. “Oh, don’t look at me like that! You should be grateful—who else would bother hauling your sorry self up here?”
It was only when I saw her widened eyes that I realized I hadn’t imbued my usual radio static.
When she reacted like that I found I didn’t mind. In fact I dropped my radio static for the rest of the night. She fell asleep so easily to the sound.
Humans are such simple creatures. So easy to break, so easy to amuse.
As morning neared, I picked her up once again and headed for her room.
Nothing like making her question reality while I revel in the satisfaction of control.
MC POV
The morning light splintered my sleep. I found myself sitting up in bed with a pounding headache and bits and pieces of memories I wasn’t even sure actually happened. I mean—come on—Alastor carrying me? Letting me hear his real voice? Impossible. Delirium. A fever dream at best.
And yet... I still hear that voice, smooth and unfiltered, curling around my thoughts like a lullaby I was never meant to hear.
And yet… the warmth lingers. My head against his chest, his arm hooked under my knees, the other resting on the small of my back. My skin still tingles at the memory.
NO! Shut up! He’s not yours, will never be yours, and is not meant to be yours.
Instead of dwelling on whatever that was, I head to the mirror to see if I had any remneants of Alastor’s swamp on me. And I found… Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
My clothes were slightly wrinkled and I smelled like alcohol, but there wasn’t anything that would point to Alastor.
I glared at my reflection. I’m not that unstable, right? There’s no way I would fall so damn hard for some toxic motherfucker to the point I dream-
Fall. When did love become part of this? When did I start believing in something so stupid again?
I let out a frustrated groan and stormed my way to the shower. I pause in front of the sink. A sound. Soft, distant. Laughter.
My breath catches. No, no. That’s—That’s not real. Can’t be real. I was shaking my head now. There is no fucking way that was real. No fucking way he’s watching. Because if he is- if that was- then I’m already losing
Stop thinking. Stop thinking. Stop. Thinking.
I hit my forehead with a closed fist, willing the thoughts to shut up. I hop into the shower, get done with it quickly and before I know it my feet are taking me downstairs to where I know Alastor will be.
After all, he always drinks coffee in the morning. To think it started with that.
I'm hyper now. Who's going to take responsibility for me bouncing off the walls. Huh Alastor? This is all your fault.
hey I reread some neighbor könig because it's so so so good and I finally had an idea!! no worries if it's not your jam or if you have other writing to do or you're not feeling the writing spirit or literally anything else, I'll be just fine!! anyways anyways the idea is that reader comes home late one night wasted and könig takes care of her. and perhaps if you're so inclined she keeps asking him for saucy stuff and I mean he's not a creeper so of course he's not gonna do that stuff while she's drunk!! but he sure does want to. again again I love anything you write and I will drink any scraps of könig/any others up!! may the gods of writer's spirit bless you🙏🙏🙏
Yes! Gentleman König is an hc no one can take from me! This turned out a little softer than I intended, but I hope you enjoy it anyway!
(Rated Mature 18+ for some suggestive conversation and drinking)
König’s body jolted, the sound of his phone waking him from the pleasant haze of dreams, and slapped a heavy hand around his nightstand.
“This better be good,” he growled into the phone, not having even bothered to check who called.
“Kö” hiccup, nig?”
He shot up, already jumping out of bed and rushing around the room to pull on a pair of shorts and a shirt. “What’s wrong? Where are you?”
He had run into you earlier in the night, dressed so prettily and smiling as you told him you were going out with friends. He knew he should have followed you. But he took one look at you in that revealing dress and all common sense left his brain.
His stomach sank, nervous adrenaline rushing through his veins, as you sobbed out a weak, “help.”
He quickly stuffed his feet in his shoes as hastily threw his hood on as he spoke to you and rushed out of his flat. “Where are you?” He could get the details later, find out who he had to kill later, after he made sure you were-
He froze, only for half a second, as he found you slumped on the floor outside of your door. He hung up and slid his phone in his pocket as he rushed over to you with a shout of your name.
You looked up at him, eyes big and wet with unshed tears and slurred out his name. “König!”
The stench of alcohol washed over him like a wave as he knelt down next to you. “What happened? Are you ok?” He asked as he held your shoulders and dragged his eyes down your body to make sure you weren’t hurt.
“My key stopped working!” You cried out, throwing your hand behind you at the door and hitting it a little too hard. “Ow!”
He winced and took your hand in his, gently rubbing where you hurt yourself.
“I swear I paid my bills!” You cried again and threw your head back, he was quick enough to cradle your head before it hit the door.
“Ok, darling. Let’s get you up.”
You groaned and flopped your head to the side, leaning even more on the door. So he picked you up and set you on your feet, a little blush warming his face when you giggled out a surprised “so strong!” and then leaned against him, nuzzling your face against his chest.
With one hand planted in the middle of your back so you didn’t fall over, he checked the key hanging from the door. Sure enough it was stuck. It gave a bit of resistance but he managed to pull it out and chuckled when he saw it.
“This is your mailbox key.”
“Huh?”
He unlocked the door with the proper key and gave you a gentle nudge, trying to get you to walk inside. You groaned again and slumped even further against him.
“König,” you mumbled into his shirt, “can you carry me? Like a princess?”
“Alright. Come on, princess.” He picked you up with an amused huff, being careful not to hit your feet on the doorjamb as he walked through.
You wrapped your arms around his shoulders and giggled when he picked you up. You attempted to repeat the cognate, and drunkenly failed (far too many ‘s’), but he nodded and closed the door with his foot.
“That’s,” you mumbled as he gently set you down on the couch. “I’m. I’m your princess, right, König?”
The alcohol once again had you miserably mispronouncing the word. It still had him chuckling and blushing beneath his mask, though. He nodded as he kneeled down in front of you. “Yes. You are my princess.”
Gently he took one of your ankles in hand, another smile tugging at his lips as you started to laugh again, he was unsure if you were laughing at his words or because his gentle touch had tickled you. His own ankles protested as he looked at the strappy heels you were wearing. Sexy, certainly, but it’s no wonder you ended up on the floor. He removed your shoes and set them to the side of the couch. “Stay here, you need to drink some water.”
You were half laying down when he came back with a glass of water. He set the glass down and maneuvered you so you were sitting up again.
“Drink.” He held the glass up to your lips, glad that you didn’t try to find him. “How did this happen?” He asked once you swallowed a few sips.
You shrugged. “Got ditched.”
He stiffened next to you, a growl stuck in his throat as he bit his tongue to stop himself from saying anything bad about your so called friends.
You sighed and dropped your head back on the couch. “My friend met a guy. I hope he actually eats pussy, for her.”
König’s head snapped to you, “what?”
You let out a lethargic laugh and turned your head, still leaning against the back of the couch, and raised your hands in frustration. “They’re so hard to find! Adrian is the only guy I’ve ever met that actually likes doing it!” You whined and slapped your hands over your face. “Why did I break up with him?”
He coughed, tried to sputter out something that honestly neither of you understood, and you mistook it for a laugh.
“It’s not funny! I’m never gonna find a guy to eat me out again.”
You finally dropped your hands from your face and looked at him. “Oh! Shit! I’m sorry!” It was only now that you realized how uncomfortable your comments had made him. His knee was bouncing up and down nervously and his hands had an iron grip on his shorts. “I didn’t mean to- It’s okay if you don’t like to eat pussy, König!”
“What!”
“You don’t have to do it! I’m sure you-”
“But I want to!”
You paused your ramble and narrowed your eyes at him, he was refusing to look at you. “You want to…”
He nodded and still refused to look at you as he answered, “yes.”
You gasped and straightened up, one of your hands landing on his thigh. “König-”
He cut off your next question by gently slapping a hand over your mouth, his eyes finally meeting yours again. “Don’t ask me that. Please, ask me when you’re sober.”
You stared into his eyes, wide and dilated, and slowly raised a hand to tap his hand over your mouth. Slowly he dropped his hand and once again looked away from you.
“I was gonna ask,” he stiffened where he sat, “if you could stay and cuddle with me.”
“What?”
This time, you were the one shyly looking away from him. “I like when we cuddle. You make me feel safe.”
“Oh.” König’s heart thumped in his chest. You were completely wasted, and still everything you said only made him like you even more. He nodded and stood up. You giggled as he gently scooped you up in his arms again and carried you to your room.
“Yes. I will keep you safe, princess.”
