So, I've been teasing the Bullville writing stuff for far too long, and the only way I'm gonna get the gumption to start the second chapter might just be to post the first already. when I set up my ao3 more I'll add this there, but, here it is! I'm not asking for critique, as I plan on running more edits before I post it on ao3 but you will at least get the gist

Eden and Indigo at the skatepark (untitled as of rn)

It’s autumn, the dried up leaves coat much of the skatepark in Bullville, but most of them have been swept into the field by wind and what’s left on the concrete is all ripped and crinkled. The clouds tell of a rainy overnight ahead, but the sun is high in the sky right now.

The skatepark is empty except for two backpacks, a dog, his skateboard, a ferret, and their rollerskates. “So what are we still doing here?” questions the ferret, Indigo, to Eden, a twiggy, fluffy malamute.

“The hell you mean dawg? You’re not thinking of ending it are you?” he replies, concerned.

“Nah dude, I’m just talking about Bullville, like, what’s wrong with us? Why’re we still choosing to live here?”

“I don’t think there’s anything wrong with us, people get stuck here, it’s like a curse,” Eden chuckles out, and crosses his arms, “If you were raised here, you’re fucked. If even one of your parents was raised here? You’re completely doomed.”

“Eden, I don’t remember, were your parents raised here?”

“Yeah, they both went to the tech school, so my mom is from Bullville and my dad is from Smithfield.”

“Shit man, well, my parents are both from Massachusetts and moved to Bullville cause it was cheap to buy a house when they got married, it’s a reasonable commute from both their main spots.”

“Yeah no, I didn’t leave this valley for the first 15 years of my life besides to go up to Boston for two Sox games. I don’t even like baseball! My dad just seriously thought it would fix our relationship or something. That’s what my last therapist said at least.” Eden quickly shakes his rolled up long sleeves down his arms and then crosses them tight around his chest. “I only started branching out more because of when I started making friends with people older than me. Most of them really did just want me to have a better childhood even though I was a little too far gone to save.”

“I’m glad some of those people were good for you, and I remember the baseball game stories. He drove you home in the dark while plastered that first time, right? He would’ve the second time too if it wasn’t for your mom secretly following you to the stadium.” Indigo squints a little to see Eden’s eyes going glassy.

“Yeah, and we picked up the other car the next day while my parents were screaming. Y’know, I’m convinced the friend of his he always met there was one of his dealers. Something about him. It was too long ago for me to remember some of the details now though.”

“I can see you getting all stressed thinking about him, let’s circle back, why do you think you’re still here?”

“Well, I know I could probably afford to move elsewhere at this point, or at least save up to in a reasonable amount of time, but I just feel a connection to a lot of the other things here besides my family. The local nature spots, the good cities aren’t that far away, I know a lot of other good people here obviously. What about you?”

“The people and nature for sure… I dunno, I feel like a lot of the folks we still know in town would say similar stuff to you honestly. Like, it’s just convenient really. My friends, my job, my happy places, they’re basically all here. But since you mentioned the city, any ideas of stuff to do in Providence soon?”

“I’m not really sure. I really am trying to save money so I might just hit up a coffee shop and hang out for a few hours… Try to get some writing done or something. Just to get out of the normal cycle.”

“I knew it. You couldn’t swear off the pen! … That’s it, that’s why we’re all still here! Eden, you and I have been in some form of creative writing club together since I was a sixth grader. It’s the author and poet in all of us. I dunno, we just can’t stop writing. Especially about our love/ hate relationship with this place”

“You really think that’s it?”

“Okay, hear me out, what’s better to write about than a shitty hometown in a beautiful often melancholic manner? I mean, sure we could be off living some better life, but we can just write that too.”

“You’ve seen my work, it’s all just whatever, sometimes it’s about my dreams. Like my actual dreams and also my goals and aspirations? Or it’ll be just a really mediocre but piercingly toned heart stab of a poem. Nothing to write home about, it just makes me feel better.”

“I like when you read the ones about your hopes and dreams and stuff!” Indigo pauses to watch as Eden starts fiddling with his skateboard, rolling it back and forth like he’s itching to skip out on whatever endeavors his friend is going to dare suggest he pursue. “I do really think you could do pro skating, I watch YouTube and you’re just as good if not better than some of those skaters. Still, I don’t think that diminishes your worth as a writer either dude. You write some crazy stuff that sticks with me, heavy, I hope you’ll read again in the next meeting now that you’re actually hitting pen to pad for real!”

“I'm glad you and some of the others have been enjoying my work and helping me workshop it. I definitely feel a lot more confident than I did, it's just hard to grasp that I'm good at stuff that's all. And while I know I'm pretty not bad at skateboarding, I'm just not sure if I'm good enough to try and work towards going pro. I feel like I'm late to the game anyhow.”

“I don't think that really matters, you've got a lot of talent. I love skating with you not only for spending time doing something we like together, but watching you is so fun. I don't even know what the names of half those tricks you do are.”

“If I'm being honest I don't know the names of some of the tricks either. I just do what I think will look cool a lot of the time.”

“I'd say at least try and figure out how you could start showing off your skills. Like do you have those skate clips we've been taking? you could put those online and see if people get into it.”

“Hmm,” Eden sighed, “I don't know if anyone will really care that much, but maybe.”

To add something to HS - the new icon theme.

I agree with probably everything what you wrote, Marte, because I have the same opinions. Fandom can argue what icon and being an icon actually means but for me it feels like Sony is going to the highest way aka they want him to be that legendary icon like Prince, F.Mercury, Bowie, Elton John etc. But as you wrote, imo it´s impossible as long as he doesn´t have anything significant and he´s basically very visibly influenced by those legends I wrote above. There´s something from Freddie, there´s something from Bowie, there´s something from Elton John. He can´t become a legend while being called "the next generation´s Bowie" because there was only one Bowie, he was first and the last one of his kind and nobody can replace him/continue in his legacy. Same with Freddie, 32 years since he passed and nobody replaced/overshadowed him. Bowie´s songs will be still known in another 50 years and so will be Queen´s songs all across the world. Tshirts with Bowie face/logo will never get out of fashion just like Tshirts with Ramones or Nirvana. Can you imagine this with H? He needs to be strictly himself having his own significant looks (which are not strongly influenced/copied from Freddie Mercury), significant way of being a performer, have some iconic songs which will be known in another 20-50 years through all generations (and they won´t get in gp awareness because "it´s about eating p*ssy").

He also on purpose doesn´t say any strong opinion/making political statements or using his influence to talk about urge things like climate change (that will even be hypocritical from him with owning 30 cars and using private jet to fly). Nothing will publicaly come from him because he´s already on the edge of not saying/doing something bad to not get cancelled and he needs to be blank canvas for his fans. Yes, i agree with this. I think Sony is building a icon/legend narrative around him. Like he's a big star, sought after, and untouchable. But he's not. He's not there yet.

I don't think it's enough to be yourself to become an icon. You need to be different, provide something new, exciting and original, and you need to stand out from the rest. Be epic. Being a blank canvas and trying to be everything to everyone isn't going to make him stand out. He's not showing character or personality. There is no social commentary from him either and he seems distanced and unavailable. He's a money making machine who's created to be a huge, but fast burning star.

It's hard to tell who will be come the icons and legends of tomorrow, but i think the way to go isn't using the same old tricks of the past, but being ahead of the times.

All of the above! I am the cool aunt who is even allowed to give her nine year old nephew a forehead kiss on the football pitch. And it wasn't always easy to be a good aunt due to distance, so it was hard to always be around. Some things I would like to add:

12. Keep up to date with their interests! I used to be an expert regarding paw patrol and now I know too much about rappers I don't like and I could make a ranking of my nephews favorite football players and what he likes about them and he always gets really excited when he notices that I remember.

13. Do things with them like activities even if they are out of your comfort zone. Do I enjoy playing football? No. Am I the first person who plays with him when he doesn't have a friend to play with during family celebrations or just visits? Yes, even if it means playing barefoot bc I am actually wearing heels. And some activities are going to be nice like I enjoy coloring with my niece, it's fun, or doing crafts.

14. It might sound really stupid but don't send them away when you talk to someone else and they can be present during the conversation. Like it's not difficult to play a game with your nephew or niece while talking to your sibling. Often kids just want to be there during talks especially if they don't see you often and yes sometimes the topics aren't for childrens ears or maybe you just want to talk to your sibling and that's fine but then it's good to give them time after.

15. Try to be there when there is something special in their life. And believe me I can't make it to every single birthday but I managed to be there when my nephew had his first big football game and when he had his first school play, was there when my niece got enrolled into school and when the both of them performed in summmer circus.

16. Don't shut them out of your life like tell them about your life. Sure it also depends on their age but like my older nephew and niece who are both in elementary school are able to tell ppl about me.

I can't think of more things rn but something very important in general: remember that they are people with personalities like even if they are small, they have a personality and trust me sometimes they will show traits that you aren't fond of bc everyone flawed, they are just little humans with flaws like everyone else. Some of these flaws disappear sometimes and instead there are other flaws you might not really notice, sometimes those traits are here to stay. But it doesn't change anything about how much you love them bc trust me the second they are in this world, they are probably going to be one of the most important ppl in your life. And if you are worried about being a good aunt or uncle that's normal, I thought I would be horrible as an aunt especially when the first one was born and he was very little and I had no clue how to handle a baby but you learn that.

I know that a lot of you are banking on having little to do with your nephews/neices as children and then becoming their "cool aunt" once they become teenagers, but I think that you will find, upon analysis, that a random middle-aged woman stepping into a whole-ass teenager's life and arbitrarily declaring herself to be a "cool aunt" is, in fact, the least cool thing it's possible to do.

in this version, everything up to medjed is the same wrt palaces and such, but shadow madarame doesn't mention the black mask bc black mask doesn't exist. more on that later.

anyway he does have a palace, it's a void of foggy swamp with ruins scattered around, like futabas endless desert in canon. a charon-like figure drifts around the swamp in a little raft, and surprise! that's shadow akechi.

he's only got the one persona since he has no detective prince mask, and that's loki, though ill probably fuck around a bit personality wise. who knows, maybe his persona actually is charon lmao

luna said it adds a new dimension to the black mask/crow persona and i fully agree: depressed, directionless, passively suicidal akechi's first real full force emotion in YEARS? anger. like how futabas was determination and righteous justice, his is anger and spite at how society managed to convince him to drift through the life he fought so hard to have.

You stop your frenzied run through the back alleys of your patrol route in order to double over in pain, grabbing at your stomach as more cramps overtake you.

You don’t know what happened, only that you somehow got dosed with a powerful aphrodisiac that’s ravaging through your bloodstream. Hey! I get burnout! It sucks! But first off, (and just from my experience) get out of that dark kitchen and take the sandwich with you. Get your fuel and find your way out of that headspace.

You kinda have two options: Allow yourself to feel those feelings and get it all out now OR trick yourself into feeling better. I know this doesn’t follow the ‘talk to your friends and family’ and ‘try meditating’ response, but for some reason, this got me fired up. And if you’re like me and you don’t have those options and or they don’t help as much as they should, here’s what at least gets my feet back on the ground.

When You Need To Feel The Grief:

Allow yourself to rest. Like, really rest. Letting the anxiety eat at you while you do nothing is time you could have spent doing nothing at all anyways. Give yourself some breathing space and don’t be afraid to take a step back. You’ll come back to it and your work will still be there.

Sleeping is also great. (I do too much of it and I like to wrap myself in the thickest, softest blanket I own.) Take a nap or just lay on the couch. Turn on the TV and set the volume low enough, that it makes a good distraction. OR, blast some music in your headphones and cry it out. Sad music does wonders, but sometimes it brings me too low and I lose the energy to come back up. Something that lies in the middle ground, like Billy Idol’s ‘Eyes Without A Face’ is the perfect song to dissociate to and start thinking about things that don’t matter (like how 80s synths are supposed to work). It’s moody, it’s other-worldly, and it’s not that depressing of a song anyway. Curate your “middle ground” playlist. And make it to where you can pick yourself back up again afterwards.

Also remember that you’re doing a lot. Someone who lived during the Dark Ages would probably curl up and perish if they had your workload. Give yourself some grace like you would a friend you really care for. And set a time limit if you really need to finish. “I’m giving myself 20 minutes to fully go into panic mode and then I’ll get back to it.”

And don’t be afraid to cry. Find a safe place or time where you’re with yourself. Make room for those feelings. After you sit and stare at wall, find a show, YouTube video, or some memes. Something that isn’t the same mood as you. It helps to give you a feeling of starting over, with somewhat of a clean slate, after getting all the garbage out.

When You’re Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired:

Music usually gets me outta those feelings faster than just thinking about it. Headphones are your best friend in case you like to turn it up like me, though. Running, jumping, and swinging yourself around also helps me get the rage out, lol. Push ups while leaning on the counter and yelling it out is more fun than it looks.

Or maybe I just need 15 minutes to sit in the sun, lay flat on the concrete, and get drowsy. That helps a ton, actually.

But get outside. Put on your workout playlist and just keeping moving forward. Bike, walking with beat up tennis shoes, scooter, doesn’t matter. You’re putting that energy somewhere that isn’t worrying. You can come back to your work later.

Now, Your Back at Your Desk:

JK, no you’re not. Pick up your laptop or switch out your chair. Being stuck in the same place is literally torture. Change the scenery. Move around the house.

And you know that feeling of dread when you try to look back at your tasks?? Bring snacks. Add a framed photo of that weird “Jotchua” puppy meme and write a sticky not that says, “Do It For Him.” Just change your task to something slightly different. Buy a lamp that changes colors or something. Use shortcuts on your keyboard and don’t be afraid of using text-to-speech if the situation calls for it. 1. are you going to buy the new pack (cottage living) when it comes out? no, it looks really nice but i legit never ever buy packs at launch, especially cause this one is a expansion and it will probably go on sale at some point

13. if you have c&d, do you play with pets? i feel like i haven’t played with cats and dogs in forever. honestly i just have no paitence. noelle fae was supposed to get a cat (there’s a food bowl + cat bed in her house) but when summer vacation started, the amount of time i spent playing ts4 decreased a lot. (this doesn’t really make sense, i have a lot more time. honestly it just has to do with my recent obsession with a certain anime/manga and some other personal thing)

i did random nightmares in may though and i had pets frequently. g5 didn’t because sofia scarlett lived in an apartment, but g2/3/4 had cici, and g1 had all the cats. but that was back in march so it’s been a while.

14. what lifespan do you use? i really want to do aging off but then i feel like it drags on. but aging legit stresses me out, sometimes i just want to sit down and do some cas stuff but i only have 2 hours in real time and there’s like 4 days left till one of my sims’ birthdays. 

15. if you own a lot of packs, how many of them have you actually played through? just so everyone is aware this question was made for me

i feel like eps require a specific save made for testing them out, but the only save i’ve ever made for an ep is noelle fae’s get famous save. 

that is literally a lie - i made a save for island living with one of my 100bc kids, maisie acapella. i did actually post it on tumblr BUT then i deleted all the posts BUT i reblogged them on my alt account BUT i privated my alt account so i honestly forgot about it

i have never played through discover university or watched anyone do it on youtube, i’ve read gerbits’ story about it so i think i’m pretty qualified. i’ve always wanted to do one with periwinkle acapella but i never got around to it

i got outdoor retreat literally on monday of this week so i haven’t played through it yet.

city living i did through psc stage 5 and also it was the first pack i bought anyways

16. what do you do as you play sims? (ex. listen to music) i listen to music most of the time, or listen to commentary youtube videos because i am an alpha chad. i also used to talk with my friends on voice call but i don’t do that anymore 🥲

i feel like im forgetting some.. honestly most of the stuff i did before simblr was either 100 baby (i love that challenge) or random saves that lasted for 2 seconds. 

18. do you like the new(ish) hair swatches? nah. 

i do appreciate that most cc hairs have a true (ish) black, thank god! and the fact that the hair update is what inspired me to update and fix a bunch of hairs with different issues is pretty nice. but will i use them? no. 

plus it takes up like 5 gb? depending on how many packs you have.

noelle is blonde and has blue-grey eyes. she wears purple contacts pretty often though (because she wants to 😌)

alari has light brown hair that is kinda curly, and she’s got pretty vibrant blue eyes. 

they’re sisters, alari is 3 years older than noelle. noelle was 19 and alari was 22 when they got spotted

they worked as models when they were young adults. their jobs involved dyeing their hair blue/pink, and they would model like clothes and stuff. anyways, they were pretty successful. like not ultra famous but they had enough money to not work for the rest of their lives. 

their modeling group was made of 4 girls, the others were named paisley autumn and they were green and red, respectively. some things are: 

paisley and alari started dating during this 

autumn was a single mother to a little girl named destiny

noelle dated many people during this but never ended up finding the one <3

when their contract ended after like 6 years, paisley and alari went to go live together and noelle decided to get into acting. so thats when get famous playthrough started!

22. if you use cc, are there any cc creators that you have like ALL of their items? this is such a good question! i hoard hair very heavily (my folder is 11gb) i so i have like 97% from most of the popular hair creators.

characters

obviously u want to get as many bonuses as possible and if u dont have that specific character (machine society toshiro -_-) then its fine it just makes the room harder. like ive completed floor 50 of the first tower of forging with lacerate shunsui and he didnt have all those bonuses but the lacerate was the game saver. u would just need to try harder and focus on gameplay. never use good characters on the locked rooms that is a given. throw old and frenzy characters at those floors and i tend to start switching to actual characters by the 25 floor mark/when the characters start getting a little newer. also! characters can be better at certain things such as having a lot of status effects, heal, or soul traits such as last ditch survival. melee characters clear rooms faster and ranged characters have more survivability. status effects are boss killers and clear rooms. weaken is great against bosses. the whole schbang. last ditch can be useful on low stamina floors, characters with sprinter (2+ and long stride) traits are gods imo in dodging

like if u see something like this and go ‘well i dont have a speed character with a hollow affiliation who also has the main killer. u would just skip the hollow aff and prioritize the killer.

builds

min maxing is the name of the game and my favorite type of build is glass cannon. do stamina stats thats weak shit go all in for attack or sp for the accessories. hollow bait, those sp orbs, all of it and make sure theyre maxed out. if u dont know which characters get which type of accessories always look at the characters highest stat and max it out. for example while nanao is a hybrid character, her attack is bigger (bc i didnt max out her soul tree lmaooo) so i focused in on the attack stat

for links its a lot more variety but think about how useful it would be. nad characters ofc benefit from nad increase links. sad charactefs should consider sad increase links but also cooldown reduction for floors such as boss gauntlets or rooms that ban normal attacks. for melee characters, u could consider dr and last ditch survival links because ur gonna be taking damage and u need to be built like a truck. as a ranged character, full stamina links (low stamina at certain floors) is a pretty good idea if u want to increase ur damage output however dr doesnt hurt if u have it with nad or something. characters with hes and shields also benefit the most out of cdr links

for the same nanao build here are the links

the first bitch adds 25+ nad, tatsuki gives 20+ nad and last ditch, and old man gives 20+ nad (bc i also didnt level him) and -12 dr. while she is ranged and probably doesnt need it the dr and last ditch as much, i also accounted for her being a really old character so she’s slower and also will be more likely to take a hit

gameplay

this is where it gets spicy the basics are divide ur time to 1 min per room. if ur at 1:30 and just finishing room 1 its a lost cause tbh and u gotta be rlly lucky for u to pull it off and u need to look at ur build again and see what went wrong, maybe it was just unlucky rng or maybe it was ur damage output wasnt as great as it could be. now if u shed all ur defense for attack dashing is ur friend. i think theres a few invincibility frames (either that or the hitbox is wonky) in that so say theres an attack, u just dash straight through them and i think older characters ability wind up may have some inv frames too its finicky like idk if its all characters. like i think u can see it in the vid where i kill ichigo for a second where i should have taken damage but i didnt because i just dashed through the attack.

for bosses u want to wait until u see orange health bar half full to use ur special because thats when the boss will use their special and ubwill suffer the consequences especially if ur boss is shuuhei and his fuckinh paralysis i hope u go to superhell motherfucker. depending on ur attack u can get the boss to the other side of the room if u position it right and if u have a good push back move such as vortexes or quincichigo’s first strong attack this allows u tike to get to the other side of the room before they use ur special, ofc u can be unlucky and the character doesnt use their special at this point but f. now if u time it right u could dash out of the special i believe its just too hard and not worth it imo ive only done it successfully a few times u gotta be a pro gamer for that one. ofc its much easier to delete them with a special but only rlly works with sp characters building that tenshi. theres no point as a nad character for a tenshi ur special is just to look pretty that is all (unless u have a status effect) or if u know when the boss is going to use the special its a good idea to weaken/lacerate them, usually by a special, and that makes the special useless. also if u dodge the first special be warned that the boss can use their special again like idk 15+ seconds or something so once the special is finished u go all in

as a melee character u want to dash through the boss to get behind them. they will attack in a string in one direction so use that time to get some damage they cannot change directions while attacking, use this to you advantage. works well for ranged too. strong attack 1 will be in one direction and will be the most common. strong attack 2 has more variety and will often be spread or some other weird shit. strong attack 3 will either be full screen or a charge attack. keep in mind that this is mostly applicable to newer characters so that tessai boss will not have any of these. the boss has this so if u know the abilities well u can expect a lot of strong attack 1 so get out of the way when ur in the direction the boss is facing. strong attacks also stagger just a little so u can use strong attacks as an opening attack to get in and start wacking but dont get greedy and back off when u know the boss is going to attack again.

a ranged character can play it safe u just run around in cicrcles and attack sometimes but for melee characters its a breeze just keep ur distance and avoid the special. ranged characters have a lower dps so ur boss fights gonna be slow in fact ur everything is going to be slow and u need to watch the timer the most. my favorite strategy is running around the room and attacking once in a while but dont get too greedy because the boss will punish u for it. as a ranged character u have the best change at surviving specials so use that to ur advantage. ranged characters tend to have good push back attacks so if u can, get them across the room and run to the other side as fast as u can.

now as a nad character ur style is focused on attacking, so u want to be dodging and attacking dodging and attacking. attacking from behind and shit. u need to play more aggressively and this is why i recced dr links because u are going to be at risk. as a sad character, u want to be running around the room until ur strong attacks get off cooldown and use those theres no real point to normal attacking because u are a noodle and ur attack will not do anything other than possibly open urself up to an attack from the boss. use the shit out of ur strong attacks and this is why i said cdr is a consideration for sad characters.
