The real story behind Shizuku joining the Phantom Troupe

I feel like Shizuku’s recruitment in the Troupe happened completely by accident. Like, she stopped by their hideout to deliver pizzas or something. Then, Pakunoda or a sleepy Phinks let her inside and told her to wait while they go fetch some cash after realizing the Troupe’s communal jar was empty—thanks to Franklin and Machi’s secret late night food orders.

And like, immediately after Phinks walked away, she started wandering around the hideout and somehow ended up in Chrollo’s study. He didn’t notice her at first since he was busy dissecting and poking around at the prisoner Feitan had just accidentally killed (oopsies). Then she prob spotted some fresh blood on a nearby bookshelf and without thinking twice activated Blinky and vacuumed up the shit out of the entire shelf before anyone could stop her.

And like before Chrollo got to fully process the loss of a beloved fraction of his carefully curated collection, she started vacuuming away the 2-3 corpses laying around that they had been arguing over who had to clean up. She didn’t seem the least bothered by it so they were all like wait—WHERE DID THAT GO?

Feitan’s just like??? WHERE THE FUCK’S MY PRISONER??? BRING THEM BACK.

Chrollo was 100% okay with recruiting her ass, bc yes, what she did is unforgivable, but he’s a tactician first and foremost. But he was veeeeery lukewarm (at best) towards her for like weeks. Like she just vacuumed to another dimension one of his favorite book series lmao. He’s taking her existence very personally.

For like the first couple of weeks he’d just darkly glare at her whenever she entered a room, and be so petty with the missions assigning. He’d send her on the most tedious ones (oftent to acquire and retrieve rare books and scrolls to build back his lost shelf…) and would use disturbing threats and rules regarding her nen ability use as some kind of psychological torture.

Bruce: No. He's the kind of person in a group project would do all the work but would leave the presentation to someone else. (what im trying to say is he has good planning but poor communication skills. unfortunately thats a necessary skill for a team leader)

Babs: no. she can be a good mentor and a cool guy in chair, but I cant see her leading a team.

Dick: YES. There are any instances in the comics that prove this. He is the kind of leader who could do both. He could be stern when issuing commands but could also take his team out to dinner after a mission done well. hes like the popular student council member that everyone actually likes.

Cass: no. lmao. (although dc hasnt made her lead a team yet tho. i think)

Jason: NOOOO. Jason shouldn't have been the 'leader' of the outlaws team (the first one). Roy and Kori were were much more experienced in the hero business. There sure are a lot of them, tho most of these star the kitten vigilantes that the batkids might interact with in this au. Looks like Catman aka Thomas Blake has decided to take on his own apprentice, and has picked Tom for the job. Say hello to Catboy, Tom is very confused about all this, Ted (Wildcat) looks pissed lmao. I liked Catman btw, he was pretty great in Secret Six, the very definition of a glow-up. I should re-read Secret Six honestly, I did enjoy it but I was mostly focusing on Black Alice tbh. Also was anyone else shocked that Catman was an actual DC character?? I genuinely thought that the Fairly Odd Parents show make him up to parody Adam West's Batman. There's also another Catman from the 1940s but it seems unrelated to the DC version. The more you know I guess.

Here's a Catwoman vs Catman standoff! The cats with their kitten sidekicks, Tom is so done with this. Down below we see Catgirl playfully (and remorselessly) steal poor Tom's cash. She's a goofball sometimes. It kinda seems she might have a bit of a crush on Tom but he doesn't seem interested, also there might be a bit of an age gap too, now that I think about it? She might be 16-18 to his 21-22 I think? I guess the age gap is lower in this au so it's not relevant anyways.

Decided to expand (head-canon lets be real) on this random obscure character, Kitten. I made up a name for her, Felicity Fauve, I wanted to give her a cat-like name for her but not make it too obvious or on the nose, hope it sounds natural enough. You can see her bothering all the Cat-themed heroes and villains she can find. She's been shown to be a sidekick to Cheetah and Catwoman, hope she finds the role model she's looking for. Her being a sidekick to Catman feels like it could be a gag towards the 1940s version now that I think about it.

Bottom left doodle shows her 'hanging out' with Catwoman and her sidekicks. Catgirl seems very territorial concerning Kitten, Holly seems very concern about it, Selina doesn't care in the least. Not her problem!

More Cats! Here's Catwoman showing the ropes to Tom, who's taking on the name Catlad. This is honestly me being inspired by all the fanart of the batboys taking on fanon Catlad mantle. Mostly its Tim I think, thought it would be fun to put Tom in the role. I think he would prefer this over Catboy no doubt. Ted still wouldn't be happy about all this, don't teach kids to steal Selina!! Btw did you know Ted mentored Selina in fighting? There was a 4 issue mini with her 'working' with Wildcat that revealed that, short but fun read.

There's also bonus doodles of Pantha and Artemis Crock. Artemis is very different from the tv show version, like shockingly so. Reading through the JSA comics, I was really taken aback from how she differed, like she was an actual villain here (also Jade isn't related to her, tho I knew that early on reading the tt comics). I still liked her but I think I like the show version more tbh. Also I wanted to put her mother, the Tigress on here but there wasn't enough room here. Maybe another time, I enjoyed her in Young All-Stars btw.

i'd like to say that this year was more of a planning year than a writing year; not to say that i didn't write; but i spent a lot more time on outlining, worldbuilding, and a new skill that i've added to the fold -- conlanging(!!). because of that, i didn't hit all the goals i made last year but tbh that's aight. without further ado tho:

2024 GOAL STATUS

❌ reach 150k words written overall ✔️ finish cage like it’s GOING to happen i will it ❌ finish the first draft of paramour!!!

so i'm only 1 for 3 and tbh i'm not that mad about it. finishing cage back in february was one of the biggest writing highlights of this year because i showed myself i could do it, i CAN finish something of novel length if i really put my mind to it.

(and yeah, i really did go and get it printed out lmao)

and more than just the accomplishment of writing 82k in one piece, it's also helped me really understand and work out what systems and processes i need to have set up prior to writing to make it work. this is why outlining has been such a huge undertaking for me this year, in varying levels of success (lmao). having a fully fleshed out outline with the literal beat by beat playout of how i want the story to go helped me TREMENDOUSLY in pushing through cage. even on chapters that were rough for me, having that outline to fallback on made it so much easier to stick to a every week one chapter system. and its something i plan to implement with my original wips too.

the only issue is, because original work inherently requires more work since there's no framework except what's in your own head... its been a bit slower for me writing wise. BUT next year i will be operating out of a desperate need for whimsey so i think i'm going to make my goals much.... less stressful than i did this year.

2024 WRITING HIGHLIGHTS

FINISHED CAGE! biggest accomplishment in my life right now tbh. seriously if you haven't and you have any interest in overwatch at all go read it and leave me nice comments while you're at it lol. technically i am working on the interlude piece between cage and its eventual sequel, schism, but that's been kinda slow going as i don't have much motivation to do it right now. first chapter of it is also up on ao3 though -> interlude - quiet

created a conlang??? in a very bizarre turn of events i have created a conlang for my wip with the working title HE WHO SMITES THE SUN (under the tag #s: ph). the language itself is called dzonime'si and if you want to see more of that process check out my #ren fights linguistics tag :)

finished the entire "first draft" of my wip betwixt thumb and forefinger--which is actually an idea that i only thought of this year so that's fun. for the uninitiated it is a gothic reimagining of twilight but with a shit ton more body horror and prochoice commentary. the reason first draft is in quotations is because it is technically a 16k word long outline that i am considering draft one. draft 2 is literally me going bullet point by bullet point and expanding the draft into something more akin to prose. i do have the first few paragraphs of draft 3 started, which is where i'm going to attempt actual prose writing for the first time. pretty much, btaf is becoming a very lengthy process but it's my first "test drive" on how this new outlining to written prose for my original projects will go. i've just gotten... distracted by other wips since then.

2025 GOALS

to be honest, i don’t know if i have many hard goals for next year. mostly because of *gestures at the state of the world right now* :))))))) it’s blatantly obvious that when things are tough, it becomes more difficult to do the things that you want to do that bring you joy. amid trying to just survive the day to day, there’s also my desires to get more involved in bothering the FUCK out of my senators, looking into ways i can be more involved locally (without burning myself out) and just generally trying to not let the state of the world get me down.

i think there’s a lot of things i want to do. i want to finish a bunch of outlines for my wips becuase i can’t tell you how REWARDING it’s been to be able to fully just go back and reread btaf’s outline whenever i like (and have the AMAZING multi leave comments on it like that’s actually another huge highlight of this year thank u friend 💛) and get excited about telling this story all over again. it motivates me to keep doing it! i'd also love to finish btaf's draft 2, maybe try and finish interlude - quiet etc. but—long story short. i don’t think i’m going to put myself on for any particular goals. next year is going to be about celebrating wins in any and every capacity. so all i wanna do is give myself wins.

Genuinely. I saw that you tweeted about coralus, and while I'm glad someone finally did I think it's best if you lay low. I don't think most people are aware, but most industry professionals are proship and loli-shocons :/

Hey! First off ty for your concern, I'm genuinely doing fine/ok. I don't really spend a ton of time on social media atp because I have a job that requires most of my attention and I have irl issues that I focus on more than... online drama atp which I think everyone should do imo lol. I kinda just post opinions/art and then leave if that makes sense. Yeah, it sucks also how many industry professionals are. Weirdos but I do think people have a right to know. Honestly I am kinda laying low atp and haven't really received a lotta hatred/harassment cus I kinda just mute notifs for some things I make lmao and just go about my day.

I'm a little disappointed to hear how much I'm being subtweeted, I don't follow these artists or have them blocked/muted cus A) I'm not fond of their opinions or B) I just don't like the content they make and I just curate my online experience etc etc. The fact that it's still going on? And also that they're. Tweeting about this to huge followings is a bit irresponsible imo especially since I'd assume a lot of these guys took everything at face value rather than learning both sides of the story or delving deeper into it (ie the person who made the post being good friends with an AI artist which is very ??? and kinda makes the whole callout fall apart but Idk). Again, I saw through a lot of it at the beginning which is why I'm not. Too bothered by it.

And I have a feeling a lot of these guys are people that already disliked me and have more of a reason to beat down on me (which is. Strange to say the least since my following isn't even that large.) I doubt they've seen my efforts of posting my speedpaints/processes more often to showcase my skills and whatnot because again they took it at face value and left it as that. I don't really care or want them to reach out to me since my view of them and their view of me is already negative and I have no intention of fixing relations with someone I barely know and assumed shit about me. And are willing to subtweet me to a large mass following lol.

However I haven't really been that affected. Despite that whole fiasco being a stain on my name and caused me a LOT of mental anguish especially in the first couple months it was happening, I've actually received a lot of support from friends, fellow artists, and people who enjoy my art. Like people from Artist Alley even came up to me irl in Baltimore to be like 'hey what you're going through is bullshit'. And I think having that support system definitely helped a lot which is why I still tabled in LA and I'll be tabling in Chicago as well ^^ I'm still gonna be working on my art cus I am still passionate about it, I haven't stopped drawing since that whole thing and will continue to make art.

I just have a TON of projects with my animated short film I'm helping direct/produce, webcomic soon to be launched, screenplays that need to be written and submitted to competitions... I'm really busy lol. And honestly I'm focusing on those more than what people have to say about me online. Hopefully that answers it! TLDR tho I'm ok and I'm honestly just working on my film career.

disaster ramble about my headcanons for how the batch got their names & etc*

*this is related to a fic of mine (fluorescent mistakes/mistakesverse), tho having read it is 100% unnecessary to understand the post, and I'll likely use some of these for other fics as well.

the only HCs you (sort of) "need" to know is cody, fox, and wolffe are "triplets", and i say fuck canon and Rex is 3 years (1.5 years) younger than CC batch. bits in italics/blue are less applicable outside of the fic itself, but still make sense without the context or i give the context.

Cody (Kote) - got the name Kote pretty young, changed it to Cody tho around 16-17ish?

And if you've read his arc in fluorescent, you know they failed spectacularly at making him less likely to break the rules. >tbh I think its fitting for (how I write) his character that his name was chosen by his siblings. i think he was and is "salty" about it, but not-so-secretely touched and/or proud about it.

this whole thing was very ramble-y and i'll be surprised if more than 2 people read it, lmao, but i couldn't stop myself. a lot of this is sort of "background" and may not be actually referenced in the fic itself...but who knows.

I just had this weird little idea for like a pre accidental reverse timeline story with Raimon except most of them are already in college (like the first years are still in their last year of highschool) and a new crazy threat appears (am I thinking of apocalypse? Maybe, but any threat will do) so like as the forever stuck captain (the role never stops even when most of the gang's in college and doesn't have much time for soccer anymore, but hey groupchats make friendships last), Tenma has to round em all up again but this time the college students are now equipped with new skills they learned from being in college and their own majors and-

Tenma being like AVENGERS ASSEMBLE, except it's SOCCER PLAYERS ASSEMBLE (summon the soccer players...?) and them just being terrifyingly and chaotically effective... I can see that happening. Very much so.

This actually sort of reminds me of this idea, a sort of AU of Accidental Reverse, in which the whole of Raimon is sent back to the past? The entire team. And they just. take the world by storm. The reason Fifth Sector doesn't go down within a week is because Raimon decides to have some fun first. They,, may sort of,, take over the Japanese economy (Shindou's fault) and the soccer world because they're ''fighting fire with fire''. AKA they COULD stage another revolution through the means of soccer and show everyone what real soccer is, OR they could fight Fifth Sector for their influence and power OR infiltrate them from within and take over the whole thing (in secret, of course. Endou might suspect. Endou will take it to his grave.) because that's more fun.

I haven't decided yet if Tenma would actually be sent back in this one too, because on one hand, we want the whole team together and happy and a force of nature, but on the other it seems very funny to have the entire team doting on baby Tenma because ''he's so small!! He's so sweet!!!! Must protect!!!'' Like Shindou casually drafting a message that will wipe out a massive branch of Fifth Sector on his phone while taking Tenma out for ice cream. Like, yes.

Whoops, I got a bit off track there lmao. Back to the original idea - I can actually see Endou doing something similar? Getting pretty much anyone who's anyone in the soccer world together with just a few messages, for whatever reasons. And since it's been ten years... questionable skills, anyone?
